Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Help an Acapella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I told myself can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection.
Starting point is 00:01:12 This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown if you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole. This podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to Deeply Well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IH Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano.
Starting point is 00:01:38 It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Mark keep coming to him.
Starting point is 00:01:54 He's like, you know, I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, and on my new podcast, How Hard Can It Be? I call on my Gen X squad from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS. Unfiltered conversations from night sweats to futas to scheduling sex.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Wait, what sex? Is it just me or does every woman my age want to look at Pinterest instead of having sex sometimes? They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. Let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Deanna Maria Riva on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRadio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeartRadio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR.
Starting point is 00:02:58 You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Fifteen years with the Giants, two-time Super Bowl champ. Phil Sims does some college stuff for the Believe Network as well. Our guy, Phil Sims. Okay, I saw this story. Derek Gunn is a longtime reporter in Philadelphia, and he was on the Seth Joyner Show. And I was told during the summer by an executive in the NFL who I trust top to bottom. He said, Jalen Hertz is kind of beats to his own drummer.
Starting point is 00:03:35 It's not Russell Wilson Seahawks, but he's his own guy. He's not raw, raw, go out beers after the game of the fellas. He's not that guy. And there was a story Derek Gunn reports this week is that he, you know, he kind of runs the offense. He feels like running, and sometimes he frustrates coaches. And so between what I heard and that, he was just saying is, you know, there's some discomfort with Hertz. So here's my question to you. Do you have to be Brady chugging beers with the rookies?
Starting point is 00:04:04 Do you have to be Mahomes where everybody loves them? Or Peyton Manning would go out to dinner with teammates to pick up the bill. Do you have to be popular to be a successful long-term quarterback? No, of course you don't. But it does help if you are popular and you do certain things and blend in with the football team. You know, and I know Jalen Hertz has taken a lot of heat for being successful right now in the NFL. You know, too, yes, is he a conservative player without question? Doesn't like to throw it over the middle, doesn't want to throw into tight coverage
Starting point is 00:04:37 and make those type of throws, but also he's very careful. And listen, when you've got a defense like the Philadelphia Eagles, it's not the worst thing that your offense is being very careful not to turn the football over. It's a winning formula for many teams. I kind of played that way. I didn't mean to play that way, but it worked out that way. when you got a good defense, why are you out there trying to show everybody you can score 30 and 40 points? And, you know, I think we saw something from Jaylen Hertz last year.
Starting point is 00:05:08 This same thing was going on. And then what happens? It goes to the Super Bowl. And all of a sudden, he becomes, man, he becomes Tom Brady and the Super Bowl wins the MVP. So you had a year back in the 80s. You won a Super Bowl and threw 22 picks. I have always defended interception quarterbacks. I defend Elway.
Starting point is 00:05:26 I defend Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning. Aaron Rogers was one of the first quarterbacks in my life that you got all the upside and no picks. That thing used to, I mean,
Starting point is 00:05:36 the bottom line is throw the ball down the damn field. I don't like dink and dunk guys. So, Donald has, Donald has nine games, three plus picks.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Andrew Luck had nine games, three or plus picks. It doesn't, he may never, he's not as good as luck. He may never win a Super Bowl. But I like the fact that,
Starting point is 00:05:56 Sam throws a horrible pick and it doesn't bother him at all. Where are you on interceptions, quarterbacks, bouncing off mistakes? Because Donald had a stinker, but Andrew Luck had 10 stinkers. Yeah, it's a lot there. You know, I'll say this right off the stuff. You know, I never had the Giants in those years when we were really went a lot. Games, they never said, you know, Phil, you've got to be a little more careful. You know, Parcells was not that kind of guy.
Starting point is 00:06:22 He would not get too angry. I mean, sometimes you get angry because I throw an interception and go, well, that might be the dumbest play I've ever made in my career. But otherwise, what you said is true. Man, throw it down the field. We want big plays, big plays win games. And then if I started checking it down too much, he goes, he would yell at me, go, oh, what are you worried, Sims, about your completion percentage?
Starting point is 00:06:45 And, you know, just go, hey, I'm just trying to move us down the field and score. Right, right. So, yeah, and Sam Darnold, I would just say this. We know what happened the last two games last year with him. And then he's playing the game. He's playing against the Rams and all that. Sometimes as a quarterback, you're only your first and you try to do this, is I'm not going to make that mistake today.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Play it careful. If the game is close, you're playing a really good team. That's all right. When the time comes, there's going to be a big play in the game where it's going to be easy for you to make. And when you do that, it changes the narrative everywhere. But I got to tell you, some of those interceptions that Sam Darnold threw last week, wow, that's all I can say. Wow. You know, you've got to pull it back sometimes. You just can't swing for the damn fences every time the ball's pitched to you.
Starting point is 00:07:37 And that's kind of what Sam Darnold. He did it. I was really surprised, but I was also really surprised about the type of interceptions they were. So I used to believe that you got to give a quarterback three years. But now they have private coaching. seven-on-seven summer drills. Kids throw 10,000 passes by the time they're 14. So my take is not three years. It is Thanksgiving of year two. GM coach coordinator, go upstairs, raise their hands. Do we draft again or not?
Starting point is 00:08:06 Do we extend eventually? So I have shortened the time lineup. So, I mean, Josh Rosen got 13 starts. Johnny Mansell got seven or eight. What do you do with J.J. McCarthy? This is a good tool belt, Phil. Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison. Kevin O'Connell, great left tackle.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Like, this is not, you know, this is not a bad franchise. This is not what Caleb got last year in Chicago. How long do you give J.J. McCarthy before you go upstairs, just sit in a room and raise your hand and say, guys, we got to go in another direction. Well, you know, he's going to get the rest of the year. I watched that game this past weekend. I thought, man, if they had like a quality veteran backup, I think they would have brought him in there. You know, J.J. McCarthy, you know, look, there are some things he does well. He moves around well.
Starting point is 00:08:52 He's got a strong arm, but he's got one pitch. And that one pitch is, I'm going to throw the damn thing as hard as I can. And it doesn't matter if you're 10 yards, or 20 or 40 yards. I mean, he's a, I think deep down the field, you see it. He's a pretty good thrower. But the NFL, the game is really played from, let's just say the line of scrimmage, the 15 yards down the field. And you've got to be a machine hitting those plays.
Starting point is 00:09:15 And I haven't seen that from J.J. McCarthy. And a lot of it, there's many things. I think there are technique problems. I see people talking about it all the time. Well, tell me what it really is, and they can't do that. But it's the, you've got to hit all those routine throws. And that's one of the biggest things I think hurts him and hurts the football team right now. And I'll give credit to the receivers.
Starting point is 00:09:39 They're very good. They're successful. And they're kind of biting their tongue. And they're not getting on the quarterback yet. But, man, he's got to pick up the way he plays. He's got to become more accurate throwing the football. Okay, I want to ask you two questions because you do college football stuff, and I'll get to Mendoza in a second. I want to start with Sodor Sanders.
Starting point is 00:09:56 I thought he was a, at worst, mid to late second round guy. The people I trusted in the NFL said, yeah, I mean, he's mid-second. They liked him as much as Jackson Dart some more. And he drops to the fifth. I then heard about him basically blowing the Giants interview, bad, the legendary. stuff all over his draft room, the speeding tickets, obviously some maturity issues there that I didn't know about. He starts this weekend.
Starting point is 00:10:28 When you were doing your college stuff the last few years, were you a Shadoor fan or did he run backwards too much? There were signs he could be impatient. Where were you on him coming out of college? Well, you know, listen, the fact that I don't look at their stats and say, oh, he ran around too much. Those are things you can really correct in very short time. I did like him in college. Look, he looks to me, he plays really big on the field. Does he take too many sacks and try to extend plays? Absolutely. He did it last week when he came in the game. He did it. He did it in
Starting point is 00:11:04 college. But there's many things here. I think he'll play, of course. I think everybody thinks he'll play really well against the Raiders. The Raiders, the defense, not that good. Kevin's DeFance, when I watched him over the years, go back to when Joe Flackle took the team to the playoffs and all that, they had one of the best, if not the best, deep throwing offense in the NFL. So many good designs as Stefanski's really good at. And you know what?
Starting point is 00:11:32 That fits Shadour. He's another guy. He's good throwing the ball deep down the field. He's a good short thrower, but it's the in-betweens that you worry about. And I would be shocked. And I said this to somebody working with you. I just said, I believe when they start the game this weekend,
Starting point is 00:11:49 he'll be about eight for 10 out of the first 10 throws. Because they're going to give him screens, make sure it's easy, get him involved in the game. And then as time goes on, they'll open it up and give him and do what he's probably best at. And that's getting a little more protection and throwing the football deep down the field. I don't know if I answered you question. That's what I think. Yeah, no.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Fernando Mendoza played at Cal. The kid is supposed to be an unbelievable student. And at Indiana and Cal, he's not playing with five-star Bam Ohio State guys. That's not what he's playing with. I like that, by the way. I like college guys who come out of Cal, NC State. Yourself, smaller schools, you know, it's not Georgia talent. It's like middling talent that you've got to throw open. I think he separated himself in that Penn State drives.
Starting point is 00:12:41 I watched that drive and I thought on the road, big pass rush, Penn State's got elite defensive players, and right in the teeth of it. He just threw Sunday throw, Sunday throw, Sunday throw. I see potentially a really high-end college kid. What do you see? I see a really high-end college kid big time. I mean, if you're phrased about the pros, I think he'll be a very successful quarterback in the pros. I mean, he's tall. I did their game against Iowa,
Starting point is 00:13:14 probably the worst game of the year for him, but I didn't come away with it going, oh my gosh, he played bad. In fact, I came away and I said, all the talents you want to see in the NFL, he showed you on that field. He just makes great throws. He's got a very compact motion,
Starting point is 00:13:28 spins the ball, can really drive it, and he's tough as hell. And the other thing that really I like, I like these college quarterbacks that are playing somewhat of a pro offense. And I look at the, I look at Indiana and, man, they do the same damn thing every week. And they might put a little dressing to it sometimes.
Starting point is 00:13:47 But I like everything about him. I think some people worry, oh, is it going to work? Is he mobile enough? Hey, man, when you're a quarterback like him who's been taught so well and has the talent that he's going to learn very quickly, hey, the NFL's different. And I think he'll be somewhat of an instant success. Kind of like Jackson Dart. Jackson Dart.
Starting point is 00:14:08 I mean, he played Lane Kiffin. It's got so many pro looks to it and all the experience, all those years and all those throws, it translates to the NFL very quickly. It's not like Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams was always in charge. And now he's playing better. Why? Because Ben Johnson is stepping on him.
Starting point is 00:14:28 Yeah. And the offense fits him. And, of course, he's learning and everything. So I do like Mendoza a lot, Colin, to answer your question. What you just said is exactly what a top offensive coach told me this week off air. He told me, he said, Indiana runs so many, he'll be an easy quarterback to evaluate. They run so much pro stuff that it's very obvious. You'll know very, he goes, this coach said, I watched him a couple times on TV.
Starting point is 00:14:58 You can see they're running pro stuff. He'll be an easy evaluation. Even Mahomes out of the Big 12, nobody knew if some of that stuff was going to work, or like Josh Allen at Wyoming. You're like, that's bad competition. I've been told now that he'll be an easy comp. That's a lot of Sunday stuff, and you just echoed it. So you're seeing the same thing my guy was.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Yeah, these college quarterbacks, when I'm bored, I try to go through all these guys and just watch him real quick and just seeing him in person and talking to him. I mean, he's everything you want at the professional level and being your quarterback, the guy, you know. So, you know, it's hard on these. young quarterbacks, like I've said before and probably said to you already.
Starting point is 00:15:41 We judge them too hard, too fast. And, you know, so we're seeing some of these guys in the second year. Caleb Williams, he's the greatest example of all. You know, he's coached differently, different offense and fits him. And, you know, he's got pride.
Starting point is 00:15:56 And he's, so he shows that in the way he's playing. And it's, I'm excited just watching him, seeing Ben Johnson with him and how they're doing it. And I know they're being tough on him. and he's taking it the right way and it shows on the field. As always, Phil, it's great seeing you.
Starting point is 00:16:12 Is that it? Well, you know, it's 12 minutes. That's all that's on my show. That's a big hit. It is, okay. Hey, you know, there's a couple guys, one. One, earlier, Bo Nix, he's a man, okay?
Starting point is 00:16:27 I mean, he's a man. And he does not even flinch when he's playing the game. There he is against Kansas City. He's looking for the kill shot. and of course he's coached by the guy that's right with him and Davis Webb's there helping the quarterbacks I mean that's just one of these these young quarterback I hear a lot of talk that all bone next this and that yeah he might not be at the top of his game yet but he's he's finding a way
Starting point is 00:16:51 to get there and I really I love watching him play too by the way he is also aggressive he's an aggressive throw over the football absolutely he's not checked down Charlie let's put it that way and he did it against Kansas City. So you saw that. He's willing to do the right thing and take a chance and not worried about if he's going to be the goat or the hero, which is pretty cool. Good seeing you.
Starting point is 00:17:14 All right. Good seeing you. Good seeing you. Thanks for having me on. Jay Mack, keep working on those arms, man. They're looking good. Anytime J. Mack gets a chance to do the, you know, the gun show. These are an all-natural.
Starting point is 00:17:30 I'm not doing steroids. Yeah, I mean, your shirts are always a little tighter than mine, but that's okay. Medium is my favorite size. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Hey, we're Kavino and Rich. Fox Sports Radio every day, 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern. But here's the thing. We never have enough time to get to everything we want to get to. And that's why we have a brand new podcast called Overpromised.
Starting point is 00:18:02 see we're having so much fun in our two-hour show. We never get to everything. Honestly, because this guy is over-promising things we never have time for. Yeah, you blubber lips. Blame in me. Well, you know what? It's called over-promise. You should be good at it because you've been over-promising women for years.
Starting point is 00:18:16 Well, it's a Kavino-and-rich after-show, and we want you to be a part of it. We're going to be talking sports, of course. But we're also going to talk life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing about something or we didn't have enough time, it will continue on our after-show called Over-Promised. Well, if you don't get enough, Kavino-N-R-Rer-Rew. Rich, make sure you check out Overpromise, and also uncensored, by the way. So maybe we'll go at it even a little harder.
Starting point is 00:18:37 It's going to be the best after show podcast of all time. There you go. Overpromising. And remember, you could see it on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen to Overpromised with Kavino and Rich on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news.
Starting point is 00:18:55 What's the news, huge news? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast. Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend.
Starting point is 00:19:09 But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes.
Starting point is 00:19:30 I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about. Talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, for people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:19:47 or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman, help make you funnier. This week, my guest,
Starting point is 00:20:04 S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:20:20 or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay.
Starting point is 00:20:40 Genshin win. I mean, she went down at three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court-side seat to the French Open.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do. So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast. How Hard Can It Be with De Anamoreva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate mid-bed.
Starting point is 00:21:30 life's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive. Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy?
Starting point is 00:21:54 That one's kind of hard, no. Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears or tears of laughter, and dive into it unfiltered and unbothered and ask, How Hard Can It Be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva
Starting point is 00:22:12 as part of My Cultura Podcast Network available on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. and finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 00:22:33 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
Starting point is 00:22:52 He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's first, friends stop by like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Starting point is 00:23:09 Like, after you go through a training camp with that, I said, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Jay Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.
Starting point is 00:23:30 It's tough to get you to laugh sometimes, but I like what I feel it out and then I can tell. Oh, he's in for some good one-liners today. Colin, we got to start here in the final hour with Brian Daibol. Obviously, it was fired by the Giants. But they played tough against the Packers, and James Winston's getting some praise from around the league that, hey, he wasn't terrible.
Starting point is 00:23:50 Here's Dan Campbell talking about what he saw. I think there was some fresh energy last week when you watched them against Green Bay. You know, I think sometimes it's just that newness, you know, and you don't know how long that that could possibly last or the rebound on it. But I think just the change itself, something a little bit different, a little new can spark you. Interesting take. Now, here's the latest. Is Jackson Dart, if he clears concussion protocol today, he's going to get the start.
Starting point is 00:24:19 They're still waiting. I haven't seen anything. Yeah, this game is interesting. Detroit plays on Thanksgiving. Look ahead spot for them. Dart may play. Everybody loves Detroit. They're great at home.
Starting point is 00:24:31 It's a weird spot. Stay away Detroit for me. I think they'll win. But if Dart plays, it's a different offense. No question. One of the other things is the Lions Off of a Loss with Gough and Campbell have won 13 straight and covered all of them.
Starting point is 00:24:46 They bounced back really well from defeat, going home against a bad team. One thing is the Giants have dialed up the Blitz a lot more. They were going after Jordan Love. I mean, good luck. luck blitzing Jared Goff and leaving those fast receivers, Jamo, Amon Ra on an island. Leporta's the guy to watch. Do you notice the offense was really bad against Philly without Leporta?
Starting point is 00:25:07 Yes. Huge loss. We'll see if they get him back. One of us may have bet the lions earlier this week and maybe regretting it if Jackson Darts starts, but we shall see. All right, let's move on to Tampa Bay, Colin. Huge game for the slailing bucks on Sunday night football. How about this news?
Starting point is 00:25:25 Baker Mayfield and Emika Abuka were among six bucks who missed practice on Wednesday due to an illness going around the facility. Todd Bowles said the illness is hitting the team so hard they made Wednesday's practice a walkthrough. I don't know what's going on with Tampa. They have to play a couple good teams here of late and they're struggling. Breaking news, the Rams are a really good team. I don't know. Remember I teased this. Stafford against the Bulls, his head.
Starting point is 00:25:55 historically and how he handles the Blitz? You know, I'm going to save it for one more day. But I'm just telling you guys right now, if Todd Bulls stays to his principles and Blitz is Stafford, you know, Rams are going to hang a 40 burger with ease. Yeah, Rams are really healthy right now. And one of the things that is so, they are, the Rams do not beat themselves.
Starting point is 00:26:17 No. They just don't. I mean, they don't, they're not turning it over. They don't have any penalties. They are, they're playing, I think they're playing even better than the Super Bowl year, because the Super Bowl year, they got off to a rough start with Stafford, if you remember.
Starting point is 00:26:33 He was new learning the system. And Matt could be, you know, as he's learning the system, he was a little reckless at times that year. This is, to me, the last five or six weeks is as well, including the Super Bowl year, as Stafford and McVeigh have ever been together. They are so in unison right now, everything is working.
Starting point is 00:26:55 They don't get penalized. They're healthy. They can go 13 personnel. They can go three tight ends. Take Puka off the field. They've got Devonte. They are really, this is as good as Stafford and McVeigh. This is about as good as I've ever seen them play together.
Starting point is 00:27:12 Yeah. And, you know, from today's Tampa practice, no Jamel Dean, their top cornerback, no Hassan Reddick, arguably their best edge rusher. So things are lining up. I'm guessing that Rams will. touch a touchdown here. Is that something that would interest you? Yes. Rams at Sofi?
Starting point is 00:27:28 Interesting. Final story, Colin. Let's go to your boy, Bo Nix. Oh, man, he's got the magic touch. Denver's on an eight-game winning streak, heading into their by with a nine and two mark, well ahead of the lowly chiefs in the AFC West. Now, Drake May and the Patriots also are riding an eight-game win streak.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Their first since Tom Brady had one. This is the first time the league has had two quarterbacks on an eight-year-old. eight-game win streak since 1984. Wow. Do you want to guess who those quarterbacks were in 84? They're pretty big. Elway Marino. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:02 So I don't want to put Bo Nix and Drake May in that category. Now, they're two young quarterbacks. Remember, Marino and Elway were very young. Do you see like a holy cow, these guys could be superstars down the road from Knicks and May? Well, I think Drake May is, like Marino and Elway, is the traits. He's just big with a big arm, and he moves. Yeah, Drake May's got better traits than Beau. He's just a bigger, stronger guy.
Starting point is 00:28:32 So it's not only accurate. I mean, his completion percentage, and I mean, the Patriots O'Line's solid. It's not exceptional. They don't have receivers that are getting massive space and separation. He's completing 71% of his throws. And he's not a dink and dunk guy. He throws the ball down the field. That's an insane number.
Starting point is 00:28:50 It boggles the mind to see these hot take artists say, oh, the Patriots, they're fools gold with Drake May. If you look at the gambling odds, they're favored to be the number one seed. Drake May, I mean, I don't think I'm ready to do this. He's like top three for MVP, Colin. If you look at the odds, and they know a little bit about the odds. Like, if Drake May's the number one seed, there's a world where he's the MVP of the league. Now, I don't know if Alan misses out on that, but that's how good May's been.
Starting point is 00:29:19 Well, think about quarterbacks who in their second year won the MVP, like Lamar, Mahomes. I mean, you're in an elevated class. Josh Allen didn't even win it in his second year. So if Drake May, I mean, it almost guarantees greatness is that that early MVP is pretty much a sign you're on a different plane. Yeah. Jay Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
Starting point is 00:29:43 The Heard Line News. Weather forecast earlier in the show, Phil Sims, Greg. co-sell, all sorts of good stuff. I thought it was interesting Greg CoSell talking about Philadelphia's past offense. How it was kind of simple. He said it's fairly remedial. It's not terribly complex. But, you know, I don't know why or what.
Starting point is 00:30:07 I mean, to some degree, I will say this. He throws a pretty good deep ball and both Devante and AJ. There are very few teams that have two guys that are good deep ball targets. You know, like Pooka to me is like mid-18 yards. under, that's that's Puka strength. There's not a lot of teams. T. Higgins and Jemar Chase, Addison and Justin Jefferson can both have some separation.
Starting point is 00:30:30 But I thought that was interesting by Greg Kossel. We'll talk about that next to Herd. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, huge news? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast?
Starting point is 00:30:49 Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Starting point is 00:31:07 Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas,
Starting point is 00:31:27 and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Starting point is 00:31:46 Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman, Help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and headwriter, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:32:07 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the René. Stubbs Tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jenchen, I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me.
Starting point is 00:32:36 And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface, because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court-side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Starting point is 00:33:05 Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin. Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
Starting point is 00:33:27 because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing.
Starting point is 00:33:44 That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, got the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one
Starting point is 00:34:08 hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do. So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast. How Hard Can It Be with Deanna Maria Riva? where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS.
Starting point is 00:34:24 All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive. Wait, what sex? Dating at 45, how can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy? That one's kind of hard, you know?
Starting point is 00:34:47 Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of my Cultura podcast network available on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. Yeah, Greg Hosell earlier today talking about Philadelphia, the social. story that, you know, he's kind of irritating the head coaches in Philadelphia. And Philadelphia is
Starting point is 00:35:30 one of the things I like, and I like this about Nick Foles in Philadelphia, he kind of doesn't have the personality to get people riled up. He kind of suppresses all the noise. And I think that's one of the things I've always loved about DAC. He doesn't, he doesn't ignite fires. He puts them out. You get a lot of Jerry and the Dallas media and the Cowboys and comps and big rivalry games and Dack just sort of cools the noise, slows down the fury in Dallas. I think Jalen Hertz is great at that. But there are reports from Derek Gunn is a long-time
Starting point is 00:36:09 reporter in Philadelphia that he can kind of drive the staff a little crazy because he's kind of doing his own thing in games in which you know, they want him to make certain throws, and he does it at practice. Game time, he does his own thing. And here's, I ask CoSell, I mean, what do you see on film about Philly's pass offense? When you watch their offense and their past game in particular, the one thing you definitely see is that it's rather elementary and remedial in their concepts. And that's just what the tape shows. They don't do a lot.
Starting point is 00:36:42 You know, we talk about other quarterbacks and other coaches. You watch a Ben Johnson offense. You know me well enough to know I don't rip coaches. This is not a knock on Jalen Hertz. I don't know what goes on in their meetings. I don't know what goes on in their locker room. But I can tell you that the tape shows that their offensive pass concepts are just, they're rather basic and simplistic for the NFL.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Another quarterback story, and I do think Shadour Sanders is interesting. His dad's prime time. But usually when a quarterback comes in in a late game, situation or it's a late drive you would see tom brady do this a lot he would tell the crowd quiet down quiet down we need to hear uh that that's something you i've seen i can think in my head i can think of patent manding doing that like guys bring it down you know the crowd you got to be in our side here bring it down apparently um should doer came in this week and did the opposite it was like let's make some noise and joel beth
Starting point is 00:37:46 Antonio, one of his offensive linemen's like, time out, we can't hear. Don't do that. Here's his interior offensive lineman. I was like, hey, make sure you quiet the crowd down. And then I watched a replay, he was hyping him up. And I was like, well, we can't really hear here. But, you know, it was his moment to play. But I think as the game got on, you know, there was a couple moments where he was getting really, you know, excited.
Starting point is 00:38:11 And those moments are important. But, like, there's a fine line of, like, great energy and like, hey, let's get the next play call in. You know, and so I think he'll understand that as he goes. But, you know, when you're in that moment, he's kind of just playing off feelings. And those were kind of the moments that he was playing with. Yeah, and I think that's a very reasonable criticism. He hasn't had a ton of awareness.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Two speeding tickets, legendary draft room, going in headsets on to the New York Giants interview. Like, he's telling the crowd, bring it on, bring it on. And his teammates are like, no, no, don't do that. We want to quiet. Shadur's kind of into Shadur. He's kind of his own guy. And whatever. I don't want to pick on the kid.
Starting point is 00:38:54 But I think one of the reasonable criticisms of him, he runs backward too much, you can't argue that, lacks some self-awareness. And, you know, it's not the end of the world, but it's not great. And self-awareness becomes very important in this league. And by the way,
Starting point is 00:39:14 this is what Greg Coasell and Phil Sims said about Sam Darnold. Like, when you have a defense as good as Seattle, you don't need to take as many risks. I mean, the coaching staff, I think they run, their run rates like top four or five in the league. So there's a lot of things that go in a quarterback. What's your defense like? Where's our field position? What's the momentum in the game? Like, there's all sorts of things.
Starting point is 00:39:38 When you're a corner, you're on an island, your responsibility is stay on my guy. or you have quarters in the NFL in his own. This is my quarter. Quarterback, there are so many things to think about. Time in the game, clock, what's the score, what down is it? You know, do we have current momentum? I mean, sometimes you'll see this where somebody on defense gets banged up and a coach like a Sean Payton will literally call a play to pick on the new corner.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Matt LeFleur will see, you know, a corner get banged up for the Bears. They'll call a play to go after the new guy on the field at corner for the Chicago Bears. So being a quarterback is really concentrating on the right stuff, not the crowd, not getting the crowd fired at irrelevant. That's not your thing. If anything, suppress crowd noise. Don't elevate it. So it's a little thing.
Starting point is 00:40:35 It's not the end of the world. And I think he plays pretty well against the Raiders, who look like a beaten franchise. guys, nothing's going, there's nothing about the Raiders I like. It is, you know, it's interesting. Their first pick was Ashton Genty, who I think's good. He's really hard to judge because the Raiders O line is so bad. And also the Raiders trail in a lot of their games in the second half.
Starting point is 00:41:00 Well, what aren't you going to do? Run the ball. So Ashton Jenny has a bad O line and his team trails a lot. Well, it's hard for me to judge a rookie running back based on those two factors. I'm, you know, it's, and I don't think, I don't think he's Zeke or Seekwan Barclay as a talent, but I do think he's good, but there are certain young players. I don't know what to make of the Raiders right now, and I don't know what to make of Ashton Gentie.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Once they put their arms around Gino Smith, to me, the season has an absolute ceiling, and it's been the worst of times for it. For the record, J-Mack, I like Cleveland in this spot. I don't think the Raiders will move the ball much. I like Cleveland here in a low-scoring game. What say you? Well, I had also liked Cleveland, but the line keeps going up. It was three. Now, three and a half. I'm seeing some fours. The Browns have some offensive line injury issues. Let me get them for you right now. It seems like their interior offensive line could be missing a guy or two. Not great. Obviously, with Crosby on the opposite side of the ball.
Starting point is 00:42:01 I just, I can't. I don't think I can back the Raiders in any way, shape, or form. I would say Browns are passed. I'm with you. It was yesterday I noted this. So I love mock drafts. And I went and looked, it's really interesting. This is why I believe the Niners have so much leverage with Mack Jones. Now that Purdy's back is that you go look at the mock draft. Jay Mack,
Starting point is 00:42:23 you can make an argument. Five teams in the first nine picks are going to draft quarterbacks or could. They'll need them, but I don't know that there's quarterbacks there. By the way, speaking of quarterbacks, the Rams, I think, have the Falcons pick next year. They do. And the Falcons keep losing and now Kurt Cousins is starting, Drake London's out? Are the Rams going to maybe go to the Super Bowl and get like a top seven pick?
Starting point is 00:42:46 That would be insane. That's what I've said about. The Rams could draft a quarterback, but I will tell you what an executive in the league texted me yesterday. He said it's a thick quarterback class. He goes, there'll be two in the first, three in the second, two in the third. He said it's thick. He goes, a lot of times you get like three really good prospects. They're out of the first 14 picks.
Starting point is 00:43:10 They're all gone. And there's maybe one second round quarterback, and then you don't have one to the fifth. This GM said it's a thick class. He said there's a couple first, a couple second. I would say this, a lot of high to middle seconds. Well, it could go from thick to thin if like Dante Moore doesn't come out. I don't think he's coming out because I think Oregon has the ability to pay him five million bucks. I don't think Dante Moore's coming out
Starting point is 00:43:38 I think he's going to be excellent my guess is he comes back for one more year he's only 20 he could use it yep hey guys it's us the Jonas Brothers I'm Joe I'm Kevin and I'm Nick and guess what
Starting point is 00:43:53 we created our own podcast called hey Jonas we invented a podcast well we didn't invent it we just contributed to it we get to ask other people to do podcasts we get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions
Starting point is 00:44:06 Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
