Welcome back to the recently proclaimed power hour, hour three. We're bringing it. We were talking, Jay Mack and I were talking during the break is the Cowboys are in a weird spot. So because they have such a cap hit next year for Zeke, they can't pay Tony Pollard who's going to fetch $8, $9 million on the market. So they have to draft a running back. Now you can find those.

Dalton Schultz. I think he's an undrafted, unrestricted free agent. Well, they probably can't afford him because the DAC and Zique numbers are so large. I think they still own Tyron Smith, the left tackle some money. So they get into a situation where really valuable players, Dalton Schultz, and Tony Pollard. Those are good players. They got to let it. I think they'll have to let him go.

After C.D. Lamb, those are your two best offensive players. Absolutely. And Dax. No disrespect to Zique or Michael Gallup, but Pollard is explosive. And Schultz was so key to them in the red zone. So Dack is not going to carry an average offense. So Dack needs those guys plus more weapons. What are the chances you get somebody in the drive?

unless it's a second round pick as good as Tony Pollard. He may be eventually, but Tony's good player. Dalton Schultz to very good tight end. Again, you're not going to bring in a rookie because your first pick's probably going to be a corner because the draft at the bottom of the first round, right? So Dallas needs a second corner. They've got issues. You're not going to beat Philadelphia.

This is why you need that rookie quarterback deal. I mean, Jalen Hertz is on a low contract. Brock Purdy's on a low contract. They're going to lose really valuable DAC pieces. like it's so they and they have they have to hit on second third fourth round skill players not just make the roster they got a hit on them it just hit me three of the final four teams have quarterbacks on their first year deals or their first contract that's why that's why the niners eagles rosters are loaded that's why that's why bengals have a great roster what's going to happen

with t higgins going forward i know a lot of bengals fans are nervous about losing him really good number two receivers somebody's going to pay him mark slareth three super bowl champion chips. You know, I said this that I did think Mike McCarthy at halftime, he knew he wasn't going to have Pollard. He didn't trust his field goal kicker. And frankly, the Niners have a better roster. I didn't put this on McCarthy.

I didn't like the last play, but that's not the game. That's just a, you know, that's a flag football play to try to score. I think some of this, a big chunk of it is, they're paying a lot. the DAC. I'm paying for a Ferrari and I'm getting a Civic. I just, I didn't see a massive gap between Purdy and Dak, did you? No, I think if you go back and look at it, Colin, you could probably pick out five or six just exceptional plays that Brock Purdy made. Give me one exceptional play that Dak made during the course of that game. Give me one standout play where you're like, oh my gosh, like he didn't have the boot out to the left and find Kittle across the middle and

deliver it to Kittle and he makes it a spectacular catch. I can't think of one spectacular play that DAC made. And then when you have a defense that you can rotate eight different guys on your defensive line, they're all first round picks, essentially. And then you can take your middle linebacker and run down the seam or run down the middle of the football field with the best receiver on your roster and go strive for stride with him. I mean, you've got to be able to make plays when you're the quarterback.

When you've got that exceptional of defense out there, you've got to be the difference maker and DAC just wasn't the difference maker. The Philadelphia, San Francisco, feels like a 1988, which you played many of these. Just a physical, great line play. When you got into one of these where you knew with Washington or Denver, all right, guys, there's pro bowlers everywhere. What was the week of practice like?

Well, I think it's always intense, you know, especially come playoff time. you understand what you're getting into, right? You understand the way I look at football in general. Playoff football to me is the way just I look at football in general. Show me the team that dominates the line of scrimmage on both sides. I'll show you the team that's going to win the majority of every game. And so with these two teams, I mean, you've got one of the most stout defenses in all the National Football League when you're talking about the San Francisco 49ers.

Like I said, they'll rotate eight different defensive linemen. And heck, I mean, when you start talking about Armstead, first rounder, Ken Law, first rounder, Boza first rounder. I mean, they're littered with those guys up and down the line of scrimmage and lineback, which you can flat out run. And then you're talking about the Philadelphia Eagles, and this is what sets

them apart. They are both big and strong and fast and athletic. Usually you're either big and strong or you're fast and athletic. So they can literally thunder punch you in the teeth and drive it right down your gullet, or they can capture the edge with their pin and

pull game and get to the sideline, and running out the sideline. Then they've got the quarterback run and all the RPO stuff that comes off of it. So they just have this unique skill set about them, so physical up front, so big, so strong, but so gifted athletically up front that they're a really tough football team to contend with. Mahomes has a high ankle sprain. Don't know if you ever had one. You had a lot of knee injuries.

You know, he's fighting like mad to get on the field. It's not a concussion. It's not shoulder. It's not ribs. It's ankle. so he's going to fight like mad. Your guess on, you know, if you've had one or not, how effective he can be? Yeah, I've had plenty of them, Colin, and they are an absolute nightmare to contend with.

You know, the difference between a guy like me and a guy like Mahomes is I can shoot mine up. And the problem with shooting it up is you actually shoot it up in between the two bones in your leg above your ankle. and ultimately what happens is all that all that medicine drains down to your foot your whole foot goes numb and so i played through a whole playoff series a divisional round an a fc or an nfc championship a super bowl and a pro bowl having my leg shot up to deal with my high ankle spring um and the thing that's interesting about them is oftentimes it doesn't look like anything meaning you don't get a lot of swelling because it's between the two bones so you don't get a lot of a lot of that you can walk, you can do a lot of things.

But when you're whole, this is your foot, like my hand is my foot and this is my big toe here, like I can walk and do everything and be fine. If I push a little pressure on my big toe and it creates a rotational force, like I just can clip it barely on the ground. Literally, I made them go reexamberate my leg because I thought my leg was broken. Like, that's how painful it is. And it's the high ankle, it's not really the ankle, it's between the two bones in the top of your leg, how it was explained to me, and you basically rip all that tissue between those two bones and ultimately any rotational force, I'm telling you, it will feel like your leg is broken.

It is exceptionally painful, and the fact that he fought through that game last week was, you know, a testament to not only his toughness, but the way he leads his football team. So he'll be, there is no question, he'll be significantly limited. Okay, Sean Payton, second interview with the Broncos. Do you think he's a good fit? What are you hearing on the ground there in the Mile High City? Well, the way I looked at it, Colin, and this is just my opinion, I looked at it from the standpoint of the parameters that Sean Peyton gave.

I've got to have great ownership, and I've got to have a quarterback. And the only team currently available that fits those two parameters are the Denver Broncos. That's it. Nobody else fits those two parameters. Ownership has deep pockets. they're not going to meddle, they're going to let a football guy run the entire organization on the football side of things.

They're in it. They're making money. They're doing their thing. And you've got a quarterback in Russell Wilson that is salvageable that can be fixed and actually played well in the last game of the season once he went back to doing Seattle-type things. And Sean said this on the broadcast on Fox during the course of the season. I would take what he did in Seattle and I would put that in there. The other thing they need, they need a guy that's in charge that can basically,

say, this is the way we're going to do things, and it's still some fear within an organization. And Sean Payton has all those things. So my thought process, unless the Dallas Cowboys job opens up, my thought process, and I don't think it will. But my thought process is you're either coaching in Denver or you're going back to do television to see what comes open next year. Yeah. No, I think you're right on the money there. Mark Schlerth, Fox Sports. Great seeing you. it's good to see you man always good to see you buddy all right great games yeah all right but burrow mahomes game of quarterbacks niners eagles game of rosters kind of feels like that way what would you estimate mahomes is for this game 70% max i mean you saw him limping on

handoffs and and he can't plant well right and that was and that was and that was and that was in the moment when you've got a lot of adrenaline, which they say tends to, you can fight through it. What did he feel like the next morning? What does he feel like today? Yeah, Sanchez was saying earlier, he probably won't even practice until Wednesday, right, just to just keep the foot elevated. What do they say? Rice, rest, elevate, ice it, and then wrap it up. I think that's what you're supposed to do. Very silly stuff. I don't know if that ended up. You haven't had an ankle injury lately, have you? It's the only injuries I've ever had were ankle injuries, but they

weren't serious. Nothing significant. I didn't jump high enough or run fast enough to severely injure anything. I play tennis tournaments, soccer tournaments, basketball leagues. It happens. Oh, I had, I broke a rib skiing. That was no good. Yeah, I remember that. That was bad. That was bad. It took me a year to overcome it. I was an old guy.

No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Speaking of quarterbacks, not 100%. Jalen Hertz, was he? I don't know. After the show, brother, he looked good. Look good against the Giants. Didn't have to do much against his garbage defense that the Giants put on the field.

They kind of quit. Yeah. They kind of quit. They're just outclassed. I mean, come on. even said. But do you thought it was... This was like the fifth road game in six weeks.

They looked exhausted. But you didn't think it was going to be this. Did you? I think I used the word blood bath. Is that what you said? Yeah. Well, okay, then you deserve... You had a good weekend.

I did have a very good weekend. Yes. We're planning a spring break trip thanks to the winning from the weekend, yes. Nothing like yours that you're going on. It's terrible. I like the fact that you do it right. You don't pay your cable bill. When you win, you go to Hawaii.

I don't pay my cable bill. Well, you don't want to bet and pay... You don't want it to be a monthly thing that you expect the money. When you win big, you go spend it. You got to cash out. I don't spend it. I mean, I'm a saver. Come on. I know. We're Capricorns. We save money. I know. Is that true? I'm not that big of a spender.

I'm same way. I'm like Mr. Saver. Yeah, we're very conservative financially. Yeah, I am. We lean fiscally Republican. Oh, no, I went into politics. All right, anyways, Nick Siriani. Here's what he said about Jalen Hertz and then Michael Jordan comparisons. I know this is high praise, but to have him out there is like having, I shouldn't even go there, but he's having Michael Jordan out there. He's your leader.

He's your leader. He's your guy. He's your, like, hopefully that's the biggest respect I can pay to him compared to his ability to being on the field to a Michael Jordan type. Like this guy leads, he brings this calmness to the entire team. He plays great football.

He's tough as they come. Yeah, I mean, To me, there ain't nobody has played any better football than him this year. Isn't it funny? Nick Foles, everybody doubted. Jalen Hurts, everybody doubts. It's almost the Philadelphia way, which is we don't always get the glossy star. We get the overachiever, chip on the shoulder team. I mean, that Nick Foles team is so classic Philadelphia.

It's the Rocky story. And like Jalen Hurts, to a large degree, had the transfer from Alabama. Yeah, remember what Tua took his job? He is Philadelphia, tough, doubted, second round. Overachiever. Cool demeanor. He's very laid back. I'm a Jalen Hertz guy.

Are you ready for this? I just looked up his contract as a second round pick. Do you want to guess what Jalen Hertz's base salary is this year? 1.1 million. Oh, nearly nailed it. $1.082 million. Easy to add, A.J. Brown, when your quarterback's making one million. Now, it jumps to 4 mil next year.

That's still peanuts. Well, and also, the free agents they added are all great. Major value. You know, a lot of teams, I mean, New England, through a fortune at free agents. Who hit Judon? Matthew Judon. Like nobody hit.

Howie Roseman spent money and hit a couple of home runs. AJ Brown totally changes how you have to attack this offense. I do wonder, Colin, hurts nine carries 34 yards against the Giants. Didn't have to do much. If he's called upon to do more against the Niners, is he going to be reluctant to run this San Francisco team? I think you had those linebackers and teams that play them in the next week are just so beat up as the punishing hits?

The safety of hunger. Fred Warner. No, I mean, you run against the Niners, you will pay a price. Even their offensive players are physical. So that's the thing with Jalen Hertz is if he's, I don't think he's 100%.

If you're running against them, just know there'll be debits. Speaking of, let's go to the Niners. They have a date with the Eagles in Philly on Sunday. Super Bowl birth on the line. Philly has been the top team in the NFC all season. and their fans are known for being rowdy. So George Kittle said after yesterday's win,

he's already excited to go to Philadelphia. This is exactly where you want to be, right? I mean, at the start of the year, back in OTAs, all you're doing is preparing for the Super Bowl. And to be one step away from that, it's awesome. To go into Philly, which is fantastic, you know, atmosphere. It's going to be wonderful. I know how much the fans love their opposing team and all the fans.

So it's going to be really fun. and it's going to be cold and violent, and it's going to be a blast. Violent. So you remember what happened when Kirk Cousins went to a night game in Philly this year? Oh, crumbled. And then the Vikings' NFC championship game a few years back. I mean, when it gets rolling in Philly, it's a tough place to play. This is big boy football.

And let's be real, Purdy has started not great against Seattle and Dallas. And those were at home. I think they trailed Seattle at halftime maybe, and it was tied maybe against Dallas. And you say you like the Niners? It's early in the week. I can't fire all my bullets early. I've got to hold some stuff back. But I'll just give you this.

Philadelphia has not faced many top 10 defenses this year. 49ers are number one. Eagles against top 10 defenses, two and three. Now, Gardner Manchu did start one of those, but Philly lost to Washington. I mean, it's early. It's early. I'm getting too excited. I know.

I can't wait. Final story, Andy Reid, one is 20, postseason game on Saturday when the Chiefs beat the Jags. Off a bye, unbeatable. Oh, yeah. Only the third coach in NFL history to reach 20 playoff wins now tied with Tom Landry for second most all time. Trailing only Belichick, who has 31.

Reed became the first NFL coach to win 10 postseason games with two franchises. Oh, boy. You know, I've said this for years. Well, I've said this for two years. And when I said it initially, like many things I, you know, I'm on three hours a day. we talk a lot. But I said, the NFL has pivoted to offense. And since they have, Belichick shrinks, Andy Reid elevates. Had the NFL addressed the head injuries and safety concerns 15 years ago, and Andy would have been in an offensive league 15 years ago with Belichick, history would be different.

The league now caters to the brilliant offensive people. And I said this last, year. If Andy coaches, and I don't think he's going to for five more years and wins two or three more Super Bowls and Belichick continues to struggle as a defensive coach. The history is not going to be Belichick Andy. It's going to be one, how a movie ends is how we view it. Andy reads, last five years to seven years are going to be filled potentially with Super Bowls. Belichick's last 5 to 7 are sad. The game moved past him. He also lost this decent quarterback.

Well, no, I'm saying, but okay, Andy Reid, his first 15, 20 years coached in this league at Philadelphia, you couldn't go over the middle as a receiver. Okay. Let me ask you a question specific to Bengals Chiefs. I started to dig into the three meetings where the Bengals went three and O against the Chiefs. Andy Reid came out like gangbusters in the first half every time. the defensive coordinator, Lou Amaruno, adjusted defensively and shut down the Kansas City Chiefs

in the second half of all those three games. I mean, is there more pressure on Andy Reid in this game to deliver? Listen, I think, and Mahomes is at 70% tops. I think this, if, if, and also now you have another week, can some of those offensive linemen for CINCY come back, even though the backups were excellent. Cincinnati is, you go ask a Chiefs fan, they wanted to face Buffalo. They did not want to face Cincinnati, because of their precision and run-pass balance,

is a tough matchup for Kansas City. Buffalo's got no run game. You just put Clark and Chris Jones against that lousy old line. You can force Josh Allen into mistakes. Burrow doesn't make them. this offense is really class and it meshes their passing game works for their running game this is going to be this is a tough match doesn't mean Kansas City won't win but this is a tough matchup for Kansas City Cincinnati does what Kansas City can't necessarily stop Buffalo

Chris Jones and Frank Clark with that bad O line are going to give it should be interesting I do have to ask, Zach Taylor, remember, the first two years in the league, I think he was something like six and twenty-old. It was awful. He went into last season as one of the odds on coach to be first fired. Remember that? He's now going to back-to-back AFC title games. How much of his is Zach Taylor versus Burrow versus the D.C.? Well, fair question.

I don't know that there's an answer to that. But I guess here's what I would say. He inherited a cheap organization with a bad roster, and he didn't win. And then the organization got him a star quarterback, and they had a couple of good, they started spending money on free agency a couple years ago on defense. So once he, it was a fair fight, which, you know, the Steelers aren't cheap, the Ravens aren't cheap, the Browns just spent. So I think the minute Zach Taylor, it was a fair fight, his team spent money. He got a legit quarterback. He wins the division.

So I think he's a good coach. I mean, Cincinnati didn't spend a lot of money. Bad Ross. Who's going to win with that? Maybe Andy Reid can. Andy Dalton got to the playoffs a bunch and lost every year. Marvin Lewis was like 0 and 7. And those Bingle teams had players.

Let's give out some grades. Let's do it. How about the chiefs? Would you give the chiefs in the division? round. I would give them an A, first of all, off a buy. They looked very good early. They looked prepared. Now, they also went heavy into Travis Kelsey, so they obviously saw something on film. You talk about this all the time. Jags don't cover tight ends, apparently very well. Mahalms, 5 and O in the divisional round. But when I watched their game plan, I thought I saw something.

They went heavy Kelsey, hurry up, caught the Jags a little off guard. We're not just great in the offensive. Were you impressed with the defense? I think they got a pretty consistent pass rush. All right. What would you give the Jags for their grade against the Chiefs? I thought it was a B. I still think they're in a rebuild. I think their offensive line needs help.

They won a playoff game after having a lousy record the last two years. And I got 4,000 yards passing. Again, relative to their roster, I thought it was a pretty darn good effort. All right. Easy one. How would you grade the Eagles in the division around? Well, A plus, first of all, they had a plan and they executed it perfectly. I mean, they had 270 rushing yards.

Four different players had a sack. Jalen Hertz, 15 and 1. Some of it's the Giants, but in terms of, it was very obvious, very early, what they planned to do, and they executed it, A plus plus. And then the Giants obviously... F. I thought they quit.

They were tired. That team looked for team. Well, by the way, Daniel Jones is 1 in 10 in his career in the prime time. More interceptions than touchdown passes. That's who he is. By the way, if he was on the market, He'd have no takers.

So congrats giants having what nobody else wants. Also, by the way, against playoff teams. Daniel Jones is 7 and 19, and the few wins have mostly been narrow. Yeah. Let's go to the Cincinnati Bengals. They go to Buffalo and get the dub. I thought it was the best game plan of the weekend, A++. I thought it was everything.

Precise passing. All three touchdown drives were over 70 yards. outrushed Buffalo 172 to 63. Burroughs sacked only once. I mean, it was really a master class in coaching. Dominance. I mean, and it was the way they did it to have that kind of rushing performance with three backup offensive linemen.

Does that say more about the Bengals or the Bills? But we can't just bang on bad. We have to give good credit. Yeah. That was a really impressive. Short, precise, passing. Not a lot of deep stuff. They didn't want to throw the ball up.

Hail Mary's in the snow. Short, precise, catch it, move. I was really impressed. Let's go to the Bills. D. Oh, that's generous. First of all, first series, three and out, never adjusted. Josh Allen led the NFL in picks and giveaways this season, including the playoffs.

Here's another number that's a little scary if you're a Bills fan. Josh Allen had the most games eight. with a completion percentage under 60% this season, including the playoffs. Okay. If you're not at 60, 61%, you're generally, you're going to struggle in this league. Because there's guys doing 68%, almost the entire league that complies at 66 and up. So half the games, the regression for Josh Allen, that's on this coaching staff. I'm going to go look up how many he had last year with Brian Daible.

I'm going to guess it's not many. One, maybe. All right, 49ers. B-plus. You know, the last couple of weeks, I think they come out, and some of it's Brock Purdy. They're 10-1 at home. You know, Chief's last team to beat them.

But I didn't think against Seattle early. They were great. Little tentative. I will say in both games, excellent halftime adjustments. But I thought in both games it was a little rocky early. And then Jerry Jones' Cowboys. How do you grade them out? Again, I'm in the minority.

I'd give them a B-minus. I didn't think they were terrible. I thought Dak struggled. I thought they played a very good first half. You know, DAC had 17 picks this year. He led the NFL. I thought it was a DAC issue. Everybody's going to point, it's so silly.

Everybody's going to point to the last play where Zeeke gets trucked. That's a flag football play. By the way, the Patriots don't do those well. That's a lot of nonsense. The bottom line is for most of the game, at halftime, they had no Tony Pollard, a field goal kicker that didn't trust, and Dak was struggling. and they made it a very competitive game.

Yeah. That interception by Dak late in the half, so they don't get seven or three, and then the Niners quickly come down and get three. That felt like kind of a backbreaker. You come up empty. Maybe you're right. Dak was quite bad.

I mean, if you're playing the blame game, is he the thing? Tell me, did you see the, if I'm paying for a Ferrari, and you put it next to a Civic, and I can't tell the difference, you overpaid for the Ferrari. Where's the gap?
