Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
Starting point is 00:00:19 help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On The Look Back at it podcast. From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
Starting point is 00:00:38 84 was big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year.
Starting point is 00:00:55 I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
Starting point is 00:01:21 This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Hurd. Now let's get this party. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. His name is Jordan Palmer. Okay, I'll tell you what I didn't like.
Starting point is 00:02:06 I'm going to throw it right out there because I'm America's honesty broker, Jordan. I cannot tell a lie. I'm like Abe Lincoln. Okay. I hated Will Levis the bathroom muscle shots. I hated them. I'm like, bro, there's never been a great quarterback who looks like a bodybuilder. You got to get more self-awareness.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Get that stuff off your IG. What is your take on my reaction? That that is not what I want to see. I want to see film room. I want to see self-awareness. That drove me crazy. Well, I think that was a popular take. And I've spent a lot of time with Will.
Starting point is 00:02:45 And, you know, there's a shift right now with young quarterbacks because in, you know, early 2000s or late 2000s, I guess, when social media was becoming a thing, even Tom Brady was like late to Instagram. you know, late to social media. But what we're getting is quarterbacks that have now grown up in that world. And so people my age and up don't understand a lot of the things. But the reality is, is, you know, I think you're spot on when you say that no,
Starting point is 00:03:13 no Hall of Famers ever been built like that. But we also, they didn't grow up training the way that quarterbacks today train. And so I think if you've got it, you've flaunt it. There's a time and a place for that stuff. And this is the most over-scrutonized phase of anybody's career. if they're going to be a high pick heading into the draft, especially because it's April and there's nothing else to talk about right now. But what I can vouch for is he got those muscles through work ethic.
Starting point is 00:03:39 And I do like work ethic and I do like confidence. And he's got those two things in spades. Okay, so you know all these quarterbacks, the top four guys. I was talking to somebody in the NFL and the comp for C.J. Stroud is Jared Goff, which I think 10 years ago is different than today. is I like a little wiggle. I like a little movement. I think C.J. Stroud is fine. I don't see a lot of wow. I mean, even Jared Goff, who I think is Matt Ryan with a more a beautiful arm. And Jared Goff wins a lot. But Sean McVeigh moved off him. So is the criticism about C.J. Stroud. I know he's accurate. Good kid. Size is good. But I don't see a lot of wow.
Starting point is 00:04:21 And most great quarterbacks in this league, Josh Allen, Joe Burrell, Mahalves, Herbert, Trevor Lawrence. there is a quality or three where you go, whoa, that's like five guys in the world, Lamar Jackson's feet. Is that a fair criticism of C.J. Stroud? He's good. I don't see the juice or the wow. Well, I think wow isn't nice to have, but it's not a necessity. It's kind of like arm strength, like having a rocket arm or a top five arm. It's nice to have, but it's certainly not needed. And the greatest player to ever play, so I'm Brady didn't have that arm. And we wouldn't categorize him as a wow guy either. And then you and
Starting point is 00:04:57 are both big fans of his. I think what you're getting in C.J. Stroud is consistency, and the consistency in the most important category, which is accuracy. And I know sometimes this happened with Mack Jones when he came out. This happened with every quarterback who plays at Ohio State when they come out. They go, we're throwing the guys that are wide open. Yeah, but where's he hitting him? Right.
Starting point is 00:05:16 If he's in him in the throat every time, then that means something to me. If the guys are catching on their ankles or slowing down or jumping, when they're wide open, that's different. And so C.J. Strow is one of the most consistently accurate pastors that I've evaluated going through this process, been around him since he was a kid. And I think they're going to get a consistently accurate quarterback, and they're going to get a consistently accurate guy every day. So you've worked with Mahomes and Burrow and Allen and Trevor Lawrence. So Jalen Hertz is a second round pick. And I said yesterday, my entire life, patience was a good thing. So with a great O line, a pro ball running back, excellent receivers and tight ends, an offensive coach, and a brilliant.
Starting point is 00:05:54 offensive coordinator. He had 22 touchdown passes. I like him a lot. But they ask him to run 11 times a game, which outside Lamar Jackson is the most in NFL history for a quarterback. Josh Allen runs half that, and I think he runs too much, and he's 6-6-250. I want to see a little bit more of Jalen Hertz before he resets the quarterback market financially.
Starting point is 00:06:16 What do you make of that take? I like him, but I want to see him now. What if he doesn't have a brilliant offensive coordinator? What if one of his receivers goes down? To reshift the market, you have to be able to carry people. Thoughts on Jalen Hertz. We lost him. Oh, we're reconnecting.
Starting point is 00:06:34 I didn't know. I was just talking to myself there, apparently. Which, for the record, is my professional job to talk to myself. When I gave this take yesterday, did you think it was nuts that you should wait until Thanksgiving? Like, I believe Thanksgiving, is a keynote. The weather gets worse. You're going to lose some teammates to injuries. So as a quarterback, everybody's healthy in September. The weather's better. Let's get to Thanksgiving.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Now, big TV games. Weather's choppy. You're missing two offensive linemen and a tight end. That's real quarterback play. September, Ryan Fitzpatrick's had great September. Let me see you when the weather turns and you don't have a compliment, a full compliment of people. I want to see Jalen Hertz December 1st. They're missed Lane Johnson's out. And by the way, AJ Brown's banged up for two weeks. Rashad Penny, as usual, not available. Let me see you now.
Starting point is 00:07:34 That's my takeaway. By the Hertz was injured in December, right? Then he missed that Dallas game and Minsch came in. Last two years, he's been banged up at the end of the year. We talk a lot about Lamar's injuries and not Jalen Hertz's as often. Well, that's because Lamar's missing more. I mean, Jalen Hertz has missed a couple of games. He's been around for like nine minutes.
Starting point is 00:07:52 I know. I'm saying is Lamar runs more than anybody in history, and now back-to-back years, he has missed a ton of time. Jalen Hertz is the only guy that runs comparably, and again, Jalen's smaller. Josh Allen runs, but not as much, and he's just gigantic. He's like Big Ben. It's just, he doesn't take the, he doesn't, he's going to last longer. Now, I do think Josh Allen's career like Big Ben's, it'll go off a cliff if he keeps running this much and getting hit this much. So here's the big problem.
Starting point is 00:08:18 It sounds like everybody needs a mobile quarterback who, is capable of escaping the pocket and running when you need it. Some athleticism. But you don't want your quarterback getting hit and running too much. What's the perfect happy medium, Colin? Because it sounds like you're, you know, Lamar's too much. Jalen is into-tort too much. No, the perfect is actually Mahomes, which about twice a game he peels off a run, and that's about it.
Starting point is 00:08:42 They don't do many design runs for him. He has escapability and the ability about twice a game to peel off a big run. He did that in the Super Bowl. Mahomes does it perfectly for me. Aaron Rogers in his prime was perfect. He'd peel off for a 12-yard run and a 9-yard run, big third downs twice a game, just to keep you honest. That's perfect.
Starting point is 00:09:03 So we go back to Jordan Palmer. My Jalen Hertz thing is 22 touchdowns with every, it's like Dak Early, everything built to succeed, and he's been banged up back-to-back years. His legs, the Eagles lean into him, are an essential part. Shouldn't I want one more year before I break the bank and he resets the market? Well, it depends always on in terms of signing somebody at this point in their career, what they want, right? Are they willing to hold out? Or they want the money now?
Starting point is 00:09:29 But I think you look at it like any investment, right? So, you know, you've done well financially. I'm sure you're invested in all sorts of stuff. And so when somebody comes to you with an opportunity, they're going to talk about the past. They're going to go trailing 12 months revenue. They're going to show you the growth, everything that's been happening. But you're going to invest in what they're going to do next, right? I mean, I don't care how good last year was.
Starting point is 00:09:49 I want to know what next year is going to look like. And the same reason that the Eagles, if Jalen's adamant about it, should pay him now, is the same reason that Baltimore is not paying Lamar. And that's that they see, in Philly, they see the trajectory. 77 prostrating the first year, 87 the next year, 101 last year. Everything about Jalen hurts his game. And I actually think his superpower is not anything physical, mental, or emotional, any of those things. He's great in a lot of categories.
Starting point is 00:10:19 It's his commitment to improving. he couldn't throw it well enough to keep Tuot-Tagawa on the sideline at Alabama. And then he got better. And then we all crushed him in the draft, right? We didn't think everyone was surprised when he went second round. What are they doing when he can't throw? He's gotten so much better. He is just so open to addressing whatever his issues and limitations are that that's what
Starting point is 00:10:40 they're investing in is he's such a sure thing for the future. And Baltimore, there's a lot going on right now with Lamar, but it's the lack of availability in Lamar and the work out is he going to be here what's next year look like and so for the same reasons they're not in Baltimore I think they will in Philly because they know what they're getting they're getting a guy where whatever he's not good at right now he will be good at next year and lastly Colin think about Jalen who has he learned football from Nick Saban Lincoln Riley and he's been with Shane Steichen who's now a head coach for two years this guy has been exposed to good football So I loved Sam Darnold out of college.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Obviously, it has not developed the way I thought. But there's rumors now the Niners are ready to move Tray Lance. Brock Purdy's got a surgery when he's going to be ready. So they brought in Sam Darnold. And I thought to myself, you know, they scheme guys open. They're not going to ask him to add lib a lot. That's when Sam can get in trouble when he starts ad libbing, holds the ball too long. Donald with the Niners.
Starting point is 00:11:45 You've worked with him. And you know those Niners guys as well as anybody. What was your take on that move? Yeah, your comment section is going to get lit up on what I'm about to say. I think he's got as good a chance to win a Super Bowl this year as any quarterback in the NFL. And let me explain that. Here's why he's going to walk into that huddle and he's going to see Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Debo Samuel, Brandon Ayyuk, and a really good offensive line.
Starting point is 00:12:11 and pretty good backups coming in too when they get an 11 personnel and if they want to go 21 personnel with a fullback, he's going to bring in juice. Juice sec or whatever. So that huddle, he's looking around. There's some horses in that huddle. Then when he's not on the field,
Starting point is 00:12:27 that's arguably the best defense in the league. And I haven't said a word about Kyle Shanahan in play calling yet. And then you look at the NFC. Who does he have to beat once they get to the playoffs? Jalen Hertz. Got to be Jalen Hertz. And then who? Derek Carr?
Starting point is 00:12:41 as opposed to the AFC you go, well, what about Mahomes? What about Burrow? What about Josh Allen? What about Justin Herbert?
Starting point is 00:12:49 What about Aaron Rogers? What about? Well, that's the what about right there. I just said six of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. And they all got to play each other. And they all got to beat each other up and outscore each other and all that stuff. And so I look at the NFC and the disparity between the NFC of competitiveness and the AFC's competitiveness.
Starting point is 00:13:07 And I look at the situation. And then lastly, look at the conference that he gets to play in. He gets to play the Arizona Cardinals twice. They're a dumpster fire right now. He gets to play the Rams that are coming off of the biggest drop off after a Super Bowl that we've ever seen. And then he gets to play Seattle that I would argue is rebuilding as well. And so from situational standpoint, I think it's maybe the best situation to be in if you're a quarterback in the NFL right now.
Starting point is 00:13:30 And then it's specific to Sam. You know, he's had five tough years. He's been sitting back there holding on the ball too long waiting for Labion Bell to get open and Robbie Anderson. And that's just not going to be the case this year. Yeah. No, it's built for him. I mean, it is built for him. You know I would love to see it.
Starting point is 00:13:47 Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days I'd put on 10 pounds, I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:14:22 A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a gas, galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of tontons and wampas on the ice planet hot, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule of two.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Listen to stuff to blow your mind on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Finally, I would take Bryce Young number one because I think he's polished, refined, and ready to play. I don't love his size, but I've come to terms with, in the NFL, not everybody has to be a 401K. if he could stabilize the franchise, I'd take him. Your thoughts on Bryce Young. Young is going to just show up and play right away,
Starting point is 00:16:15 play at a high level. He did it at high school. I know it sounds like high school football, but he transferred into modern day following J.T. Daniels and one of the most prolific offenses that high school football has ever seen, and he just broke every record. And he went to Alabama.
Starting point is 00:16:29 He got to sit behind Mack Jones. Everyone thought Bryce was going to start because Max's been there five years. And he came in, and he won a Heisman. Right. And so I just don't see anything about the NFL game being a challenge for him. The biggest question, and it's not a new take, is, you know, how available is he going to be over the next, you know, eight, ten years with the size and all that.
Starting point is 00:16:49 But the reason that I have so much confidence in Bryce is whatever challenges the league presents to him and his size, he's just a guy who's always overcompensated somewhere else. And it's ended up not being a non-factor. He's a small quarterback in the SEC, too. And that just didn't matter. Yeah, there's a Chris Paul. there's a Chris Paul feel to him. He elevates people. He can hit the mid-range jumper. Bryce doesn't have a huge arm.
Starting point is 00:17:15 But it's just leadership, toughness, awareness. The S2 test now they talk about cognitive ability to 40-yard dash for the brain. You can just watch Mahomes play and you can see how quickly he sees stuff. I watch Bryce Young play. And from the time I see it to the time the ball's there is boom, boom. And I just think, I mean, that is a huge part of this league, is recognition and delivery. The difference between one and a half seconds and two can be an interception. I just think, I don't remember a college quarterback that saw the field as good as he did.
Starting point is 00:17:52 I guess that's my take. Yeah, and stepping into it, I remember I was talking to Steve Sarkisian. He was at Alabama, and Bryce had just decommitted from USC to commit to Alabama. And I was talking to Sark. Sark was my older brother Carson's quarterback coach at USC. So I go way back with Sark. And he goes, we don't know what we have in Mac Jones because he hadn't played yet, right? And this is the only high school kid in the country that I've ever recruited who I think could step right in as a true freshman and handle being the quarterback at Alabama.
Starting point is 00:18:22 Kind of like I've heard you talk about when you have a star on your helmet, it's different than when you don't, right? Or being a Laker. Well, in college, playing at Bama is like that. You don't get that at OU. You get that at Bama. And he was, you know, the confidence in a Steve Sarkesian to have to play this true freshman if you have to. I just think it's going to be the same thing in the league. And I'm big fans on all these guys sitting.
Starting point is 00:18:45 And except for that guy and this guy and that guy. And this year, I don't think Bryce needs to sit. He can just just play him. Jordan Palmer. Say hi to your brother for me as always. Jordan Palmer, buddy, good to see you. The Summit tour. Five more camps around the country.
Starting point is 00:18:59 Middle and high school quarterbacks. Check it out. Also quarterback summit. the founder. Good seeing you, man. Thanks for having me, Colin. Yeah. His brother got, oh, everybody's like, well, I can't believe he said Burrow and Mahomes. Does that, you know, I'm interested.
Starting point is 00:19:14 How many times have Burrow and Mahomes play? Because Mahomes is considered the best quarterback in the league Burrell, the second best. Playoffs or just regular season. I think they've played like two or three times. No. They've definitely played twice in the playoffs. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:26 So at least two regular seasons rates. Okay, so let's say four times. I think you'd be surprised. I think it's three one Burrow, head to head. But again, It's a team effort to win a football. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying the idea that somebody's like, you know, Burrow, if you said 10 years, who do I want?
Starting point is 00:19:41 Burrow and Mahomes have played multiple times together, and Burrow has accounted for himself very well. Here's the beauty of this quarterback stuff. A year ago at this time, Josh Allen was undeniably the number two quarterback in the league. He was, I think, the betting favorite to win MVP this coming year. The bills were the Super Bowl favorite. and now one season later, Alan's been passed by far by Joe Burrow. Because Burrough's a more accurate, better situational decision maker with good arm strength, not Josh's, not Josh's size.
Starting point is 00:20:15 But Burrow, if you ask Mahomes, who's hardest to play against, I think he'd say Burrow. And you know the other guy I think he'd say, Herbert. Herbert's gone toe to toe more than once with Mahomes and not back down a bit. And now Herbert finally gets a legit OC. Like, not legit. I mean, like a creative OC. Like, of our five big takes next year, Denver's going to double their win total. I think we both agree on that.
Starting point is 00:20:41 Denver's going to go from, you know, five to ten wins. And Herbert's going to have a monster year with Kellanmore. Is that a fair? Herbert's going to have a monster year every year. But yeah, yeah, I would agree with both of us. All right. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. A bit of a revenge game in the NBA tonight. DeMarre D'Arozen with the Bulls. They're going to Toronto to take on DeRosen's former team, The Raptors. He spent his first nine seasons there before getting traded away in that Kauai Leonard deal. DeRosen talked yesterday about facing Toronto in that playoff environment. I say a joke about it here and there.
Starting point is 00:21:18 Just how crazy it's going to be. That atmosphere will feel like it's an Eastern Conference finals game in a play-in game. Driving to the arena, walking to the arena, you're definitely. going to feel it. Well, listen, last night's playing games. Playoff basketball does not even resemble regular season basketball. When LeBron's running down the floor, putting his body at rest for a loose
Starting point is 00:21:39 ball, he ain't doing that in December. No, no. But it's interesting, both dogs covered last night on the road. So what are the lines tonight? Well, it's funny. You should ask. I just looked at this, and it looks like Toronto's taking some money here. It's gone up from four and a half to six. So Chicago gets six?
Starting point is 00:21:55 Yeah. I'm taking the bulls. Here's the problem. It's a... Toronto went fully healthy and they appear to be, their length is going to give DeRosen problems. If I'm taking anything, I'll take the Bulls first half. I bet them first half. Okay. I don't think so. What's the other game?
Starting point is 00:22:11 The other game is OKC and New Orleans. That's sitting at five and a half. Oh, I'm taking OKC. So basically, you like both dogs again. I like the dogs. I said, take Minnesota and Atlanta. I'll take both dogs tonight. OKC is, I got to tell you something. Didn't we think there were going to be an 18 win team?
Starting point is 00:22:29 They were awesome in the regular season. You just said how different the game is than the playoffs. New Orleans knows what that's about. Remember first round last year? They pushed Phoenix real hard. Kind of like the Pels here. OKC's fun to watch. Lou Dort.
Starting point is 00:22:42 I heard first Lou Dort reference in the history of FS1. Lou Dort? Yeah. Shannon Sharp mentioned him earlier today. He's a big tough guy. He is. Not much of an offensive guy, I think. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Anyways. All right, moving on. One more thing on the NBA. Next up is Nicole Yokic. could win his fourth MVP. I'm sorry, his third MVP in a straight. Larry Bird was the last guy to do that. Yokic led the Nuggets to the best record in the West.
Starting point is 00:23:09 They haven't fared well in the playoffs, although he's been to a conference final, something in Bede cannot say. Here's former NBA Center. Demarcus cousins on why he thinks Jokic does not deserve to be the MVP. I'm not okay with it being three MVPs in the world because it then becomes a conversation.
Starting point is 00:23:27 of is this the best basketball player to ever touch a basketball? And I think we can all agree on that and say it's not. Not saying he can't be, not saying he doesn't deserve more down the road, but at this stage in his career, I'm not okay with saying that. He hasn't won anything. He hasn't been to a final. That's a fair take. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:23:54 No, I think. Tell me, what is the MVP award? Just what is the award? Most valuable player, though we really think of its best player having the best year. Having the best season. Having the best season. So he's trying to say, like, if you win third straight, is he one of the greatest players ever? No one's saying that.
Starting point is 00:24:10 Well, no. But if you win a third straight MVP, the only people who have done that are like the greatest players ever. Larry Berg, yes, yes. Yeah. So what you're doing, you're putting him in a category, and this is a subjective category, that if it's subjective, that you have to consider everything, I look at Yokic as an efficiency king. You're not giving you 38 a night.
Starting point is 00:24:29 What he's given you is 22, 12 rebate, a lot of assists. He's really an incredibly efficient player, but he's bad defensively, and there's limitations to his game, so I don't think he's the best. I'm not bothered by it, and I wish Embed would have showed up and played in Denver. That bothered me. I don't care about awards at all, but I think this one rankles people that love the NBA, because the sense is, if you give a guy three straight MVPs, you're putting him in a class of Larry Bird and he's not Larry Bird.
Starting point is 00:25:00 Well, for his regular season accomplishments, not in the class of Larry Bird all time, but for regular season accomplishments. And I will note, you say he's not a great defensive player. I don't think he's a great defensive player. Defensive box plus minus, one of these advanced stats. I know scoff, roll your eyes, I know. Yokic is number one in the NBA. Number two is Alex Caruso.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Number three is Janus. Alex Caruso is the second best defender. the league. Again, some of these, some of these are stats that I don't even really totally understand them. Value over replacement player. Oh, God. That's like exit velocity in baseball. Okay. Offensive win shares, Yokets 1. Winchairs, Yokets 1. Winchairs per 48. Again, I'm not, I'm not doubting any of these. Like, I'm not, but I'll tell you right now, the best player in baseball is Otani. I don't care what the analytics say. He's literally an ace pitcher and a home run hitter. So, and I, Mickey Betts is great.
Starting point is 00:25:53 He's not Otani. Is Bucky Betts starting tomorrow on the mound for the Dodgers? So it's like, maybe Otani is the best efficiency player. But efficiency, there's certain things. The bottom line is an MVP, if Yokic is down late in a game by eight and there's a minute left, I think M.B could make shots and get you back. I think Yonis could block shots, get you back. I think over the course of a regular season, Yokic provides.
Starting point is 00:26:23 so much of everything that statistically, analytically, but in the playoffs, it's kind of situational. I need a basket now, period, and B's better. I need to stop now, Janice is better. I need a cat shoot now, KD's better. I need you to drive and dig. All these awards are regular season awards. Right, regular season.
Starting point is 00:26:47 Maybe we should call it the regular season NBA MVP. So nobody makes any foolish. Well, you don't need this. Well, everybody knows. That's like saying vodka, the drink. Not really, because they handed out in the middle of the playoffs, vodka, the drink that gets you drunk, if you drink too much. We know that about vodka.
Starting point is 00:27:03 We know the MVP's the regular season award. But people think it's the best player in the NBA. I don't, that's not what the award is, though, right? Well, it's best player having the best season. I mean, Carl Malone won one over MJ one year. It's kind of like having the best season. And part of that is playing a lot. And as my kid played some video games, and there's guys who are called try hard.
Starting point is 00:27:26 That guy tries so hard. He's also called a sweat. Oh, he's so sweaty in this game. He's trying his butt off. You know, let's be real. LeBron is taking nights off. KD's sitting out an extra week. Yokic is trying hard and playing hard every night.
Starting point is 00:27:39 Yeah, the best argument for Yokic is in a load management era, he doesn't buy that. Right. And are you rewarding him? And this is a just reason. Are you rewarding him because he's pushing back. By the way, he doesn't fit the All-Star game at all. He looked totally out of place. I think he had two points in the All-Star.
Starting point is 00:27:56 He didn't even want to be part of it. He's embarrassed. It would be like asking Jerry West to do trick shots and a game of horse. The logo is above that. You know, LeBron's above trick shots. He's not Pete Marevich, right? So I think Yokic is a lot of people like the idea that in this era of load management, he's like, no, I'm going to play every night.
Starting point is 00:28:15 And there is value. That should absolutely be part of the argument. He's like, I'm not going to, I don't care about the All-Star game. and I'm playing every night. That goes a long way with voters. You know who people stop talking about as like a really, really awesome player in the league? Kauai Lennard. He doesn't play all the time.
Starting point is 00:28:30 He's just taking games off left and right. So I think it's fair to downgrade Kauai and upgrade Yokic. Yeah. That's good. I don't think he's the best player in the league. And I think analytically, though, he fills the – Game 7, who do you want as your starting center, Embed or Yokic? Embeded.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Okay. He had eight turnovers in game 7 at home against the Hawks at a loss. I've said enough. Final story, Colin. Now, this is a bit of a surprise. According to Kim Jones, I'm not sure where she works. I think it's one of these New York outlets. Giants running back Sequin Barclay will not sign his franchise tag.
Starting point is 00:29:05 What? This makes Barclayne ineligible to participate in their off-season program. Remember, the Giants placed the tag on Sequin after giving Daniel Jones a contract this off-season. You got to move him. Move Sequin? Yeah, why not? What is Daniel Jones without Sequine? Well, you go draft Bejohn or?
Starting point is 00:29:21 Robinson. You go get a running back. Oh, that's good. No, I mean, you can't. Pay a running back for four more years? The good GMs in this league are not giving you. You're not, you can't sign him to a long-term deal. He's a running back that's been hurt, second contract. There's got to be a middle ground between long-term deal and franchise tag, no?
Starting point is 00:29:39 I don't know. Brian. Brian, Abel has to be ticked off. He now had to pay Daniel Jones, we know it's not a good quarterback. And now, according to this report, Seekwan Barkle is like, I'm not signing a franchise tag. By the way, you players agree to it? and then you don't want to do it. Sorry, collectively bargain.
Starting point is 00:29:55 That's the rules. I mean, the NFL players bargain and collectively argue their player union reps, their attorneys, and now nobody wants the players franchise tech. That's like the owner's saying, you know, I'm just not going to pay it for that one final year. I'm just not into it. I'm sure he saw, didn't Christian McCaffrey get a pretty robust deal in Carolina and then they just shipped him out of town to San Fran?
Starting point is 00:30:18 I think he got a four-year deal, did he not? Like, Sequin, what's he getting? Franchise tag and then one-year deals for the next three years, and then he's done? Is that where we're headed with running backs? Like, he's got a right to be a little ticked off. I'm telling you, Daniel Jones will have a right. Workers have a right to be ticked off. He does.
Starting point is 00:30:33 But if you bargain for something collectively and I offer it to you, this idea I'm going to sit out, that I move you. I'd be like, you have a right to, we'll just trade you. We like their head coach, their defensive coordinator. You can get a third, fourth round. Craider next year. Go ahead and clip it off, Giants fans. They're going down next year. Would not be surprised that they would last in the division.
Starting point is 00:30:51 Oh, boy. Let's see it. See it. What have they done in free agency? Let's sign a linebacker. The Jets are the best team in New York City. We know that. I don't know if they're passing the bills in New York State, but I just talked about the jets.
Starting point is 00:31:04 Ding! You were very pro-New York last year. I'm ahead of the curve. That's what I do, man. You're right. You're right. Good calling out there. J-Mack with the news.
Starting point is 00:31:16 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lod. I'm very excited to get a free steak on J-MAC Friday and a glass of wine. Very excited. Is it free steak or just I'm invited to a steak party? I don't really know what it is, but don't you owe me a steak from some bet we made like a month ago? Doubt it.
Starting point is 00:31:34 I'll help you out, you know? You help me out. You guys, you and him do not get the greatness of Kevin Durant.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Does anybody else find it remarkable? The winning his player in the NBA this year is Kevin Durant. He is, I think in his last 27 games, is he like 25 and 2? He has not lost since November. He's the winningest player in the league. Does everybody not understand he was going to walk into Phoenix? And immediately they were going to crush. But I just, I thought we were in lockstep here.
Starting point is 00:34:54 They're going to smash the clippers. But then we have questions about them going forward, right? No, they're going to end up in the finals. I don't have any. The only team that matches up with them really matches up with them is Golden State. Oh, really? Denver doesn't match up with them well? Aaron Gordon is a plus defender on the wing for Kevin Durant.
Starting point is 00:35:09 KCP, who they got from the Lakers is an elite guard defender. Fine. Above average guard defender for Devin Booker? I think there's a great matchup for Denver. Who's making the shots? For Denver? Who you trust. Jamal Murray? I trust him with my kids.
Starting point is 00:35:23 He was babysitting my kids. Jamal Murray is so clutch. Michael Porter Jr. If he's healthy, you are so dismissive of the team that's led the Western Conference for I think four straight months. I'm not dismissive. You just sneered at them.
Starting point is 00:35:36 But there are regular season teams. You know, they play in that high altitude, and they've got a quirky center. And they play hard because they don't have any playoff success. So they play their arse off every night. Coach is amazing. Very good coach. People like him.
Starting point is 00:35:52 Just playoff basketball is a man's league. You saw that last night. I did. All the game. Ant Edwards disappeared. Disappeared. Sam. See you tomorrow.
