So this is probably a Dallas first half kind of bet against Washington. Sam Howell making his first start. interested. I'm interested. Jeff Howe, athletic, covers the NFL, former Patriot beat writer for several years, long time. He wrote if these walls could talk to New England Patriots. The Patriots are fascinating.

Mack Jones is yelling at people. Belichick doesn't have any offensive sensibility. Before the season, this sounded like a hot take. But before the season, I said, when they named Patricia OC, I said, this is not going to work. And Belichick's going to get heat. and they're not going to make the playoffs.

Now they may. What if they don't make the playoffs? You covered them for a decade. Do you see a scenario that Kraft is now leaking stuff to media in New England? It's obvious. Could there be fissures in an ugly ending with Belichick? I think, so Robert, let's back it up to March at the owners' meetings. Robert Kraft spoke to a group of reporters.

I was there, and before a question was even asked, his opening statement was that I'm a Patriots, fan first and foremost, and I am, I forget the word he used, but frustrated, upset, angry, whatever it was, that they have not won a playoff game in three years. That was the first thing he said, unprompted. Now you're going into a situation where you have to be Buffalo more than the likely to get into the playoffs. And what's that going to do? That's going to set you up with a road game potentially back in Buffalo. There's a very real chance they're going four years without a playoff win. So if he was not happy about that back in March, how's he going to feel

after watching his offense basically nosedive without that succession plan, without after Josh McDaniels. So Robert Kraft has to go to Bill Belichick and say, what's the plan? And who are you bringing in an offensive coordinator? And if Belichick agrees with him, if he says, okay, you know what, I'm all in on Bill O'Brien, let's make sure this happens, then I think they move forward and they figure this thing out. The thing that I think would be most fascinating is if Belichick says, hey, we're sticking

with Patricia. I saw growth. That's my guy. I'm not making a move. Then what does Robert Kraft do? Yeah. You know, yesterday, Jason and I played this game where we try to guess where people will land. And I have said, I don't think it's a long shot.

If Green Bay lost this weekend, I don't think they will, or got snuffed in the first round of the playoffs, not competitive. I could see them saying, you know what, we moved up to get, we moved up to get Jordan Love. He's actually pretty decent now. we could get a couple of firsts. Aaron this week talked about, I may retire, I may play. How real do you think the frustration is? Jeff, let's just say, they lay an egg Sunday.

Well, I can do that with Jordan Love, not make the playoffs, right? And because you're not paying Love, the dead cap hit isn't as punitive because you're not paying Jordan anything. And the roster's fairly complete. There aren't major holes or major units to rebuild. do you think there's, let's say they lay an egg Sunday. Is Aaron back for sure? I think, I feel better about him returning now than probably a month ago.

Just listening to the way he talks and how he's enjoying, it seems like he's enjoying the process of becoming or tapping into leadership skills that he might not have been utilizing earlier in the season. That tells me he's probably seeing more, you know, seeing things out of Watson and Dobbs and maybe there is more hope for the future. But, I mean, the big picture here is if Aaron Rogers is open to the idea of playing somewhere else and the Packers truly believe that Jordan Love is a starting quarterback in this league, they owe it to themselves to see if they can get a couple first round picks for Rogers. Because the going rate has justifiably meant that that's what he's worked. So I got to ask you about the Denver situation.

Sean Payton and Harbaugh feel like guys that could solve it for different reasons. Sean's a brilliant offensive mind. Harbaugh works everywhere, physicality. They both have to fix the offensive line. I doubt seriously, they're stuck with Russell for three or four years. I mean, $55 million, I think it starts next year or the year after. They don't have any draft capital up top draft this year. In a month, they'll probably have a coach, my guess. You want to get it weeks before the draft, a month or two before the draft.

What is your guess on the Broncos going forward? I would be surprised if it's Sean Peyton just because, you know, I spoke to him a couple months ago, and he said, you know, it's more than likely that he's going to end up coaching again at some point. Now, he's not in a rush to do it, but what would make him, what would make an enticing situation for him is that he's completely on the same page with everybody in the leadership department, GM ownership, so on and so forth. And something really stuck out to me when the Broncos had their media availability. who's the CEO and ownership had their media availability after firing Nathaniel Hackett. The CEO said the new head coach is going to answer to me and not to George Payton. And that formula just doesn't work.

There's a reason why that is used seldomly in the NFL. So what is Sean Payton getting himself into if, let's say, he gets into this Denver process? He's going to look at George Payton and then he's going to look at ownership. And all these sides are going to be kind of looking at each other like that, you know, Spider-Man meme, wondering who's in charge here, and that's not sustainable for long-term success. At some point, it's going to get political. You're going to have people trying to angle for their jobs. So I just, I don't think that makes a lot of sense for Peyton.

I wonder what it means for Harbaugh. If he wants to come to the NFL, he's going to want a lot of control. He might be turned off by that situation too. I mean, they're setting themselves up for a really interesting offseason. They may not find the guy because if the CEO truly wants a lot of power with the head coach, That's going to turn some people off. You know, you covered Brady for a decade. He's going to have options.

Niners, closer to his aging parents, Raiders, Josh McDaniels, and terrific weapons. What's your gut feeling today? Raiders. I really think it's going to be the Raiders, because if he decides to leave Tampa, you've got to look at everything that's going on around. Now, has he declined to an extent? Yes. But injuries on the offensive line, no running game,

and the coaching has really dropped off without Bruce Ariens. So if you're frustrated with the coaching and you don't believe in the plan to turn this thing around next year, what's that, what are you going to gravitate toward? You're going to gravitate toward the coaching that you're familiar with, and that's Josh McDaniels. So the Raiders, really, we know this, they've telegraphed that they're moving on from Derrickard this off season. You don't bench them if you're not going to do that. So they have to start with Tom Brady. If it's not going to be Brady, you go to Garoppolo.

But I think you start with Tom Brady. And then, you know, if you're the Niners, yeah, that's an attractive landing spot for both parties. But I think when you're looking at Trey Lance and Brock Purdy and being able to make it work with, you know, Garoppolo is the second stringer. Purdy is a third stringer. Shanahan might not be as inclined to go after Brady at 25 million years. Yeah, no, I think it's a great point. They want to keep those linebackers.

They want to keep, you know, they got to rebuild the right side of their old line. They may need some money. Finally, I am often mocked for. my fascination with Derek Carr. I said it again last week. Six coaches, utter chaos. He muscled him into the playoffs last year. It's not been good this year, but I think there'll be a market. I could be totally wrong. Where do you think he lands? I'd be absolutely stunned if there's not a market for him. He is not a bad quarterback. He's just a guy who has not had a great season. Now, again, look at the circumstances. It's not all on Derek Carr. The offensive line hasn't been

good. It's tough to adjust to that McDaniels system. The entire NFC self should want Derek Carr. So maybe not the Panthers. The Panthers need to draft a guy. But I really think if Brady goes to the Raiders, the Bucks make the most sense, because that's a roster that is at least a playoff contending type of roster. They're probably not going to go after the Super Bowl next year without Tom Brady. But if you bring in Derek Carr, then you give Mike Evans and Chris Godwin a chance to continue making plays. You help that young tight end group develop just a little bit more. And then you've got a defense that if they play to their potential should be a top 10 units.

So that's a team that needs to go after a veteran, assuming they don't go after Garoppolo, which I think probably goes to Lafleur and the Jets with a more familiar system. So I like Derrick R. Carr going to Tampa Bay in the NFC South Swee. But yeah, there's worse places to land. Their last four or five drafts have been very solid. They know what they're doing in terms of personnel. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. This Brock Purdy situation is fun in San Francisco. Everybody's enjoying it. Mr. Irrelevant. Undefeated as the 49er starter this season could be in position to make a deep playoff run. Also, Jimmy Garoppolo may come back for the conference championship if they get that far.

Purdy has gotten a lot of praise for his performance so far. Steve Young even compared him to one of the league's best quarterbacks. It's something about how he is present on the field and can handle all the inputs and all the data and still put out his accuracy and his mind is clean and clear. Patrick Mahomes reminded, like, when he first took the field, we were Monday night in Denver. And I was just taken aback.

Here's a guy playing. You're like, wait, why is his heartbeat at 42? Because his heartbeat should have at least 100, 110. And that's what I saw in Patrick that was shocking to me as a rookie. And I think the same kind of thing with Brock. Steve Young always with effusive praise for the 49ers. I didn't know he could read minds literally. He's saying Purdy's mind is clean and clear.

Isn't that what Barry Bond's used back in the day? Steve Young just cracks me up. I just love watching the Niners. I'm not supposed to root. I am a, the fans are a jury, I'm a judge, I'm supposed to be impartial. I love watching the Niners. I love their physicality. I love all their players.

I love their personality. I love Bosa. I love Kittle. I just love that team. Can I admit something about being jealous? You're not supposed to be jealous, right? Well, I'm jealous of the Packers who have had back-to-back franchise quarterbacks for like 30 years. Yeah.

Right? I'm jealous of the 49ers. They've had Jim Harbaugh and now Kyle Scho. and now Kyle Shanahan, two of the most exciting fun coaches in the league. And their teams look good and they're fun. Well, we don't know if Salah could be very good. There was like a three-week stretch of fun there when we were six and three. Let's be positive.

You're watching Shanahan. He's on his third-string quarterback and they're dominating teams. Well, his roster's pretty good. You know, Salah's got a rebuild. That old line's still not right. Correct. Let's give him a little credit. You like how it comes back to the Jets, doesn't it?

That was your fault, though. All right. Moving on, Doug Peterson. How about that story in Jacksonville? I love it. Three and 14 Jags team from last year. Got them in position to win the AFC South Saturday night. Trevor Lawrence thinks Peterson should be in the coach of the year conversation.

Thanks to that big jump in Jacksonville. I think coach 100% should be in the conversation and could win the award. I mean, you look at what he's done here and just the energy, not only the X's and O's football stuff, but just the energy. the culture that we've created here, that really, obviously, he's had a huge part in bringing here. I mean, that's, you know, it's tough to do, especially in the first year and a bunch of new people.

And, I mean, I just can't say enough about the job he's done and how much I, you know, love playing for him and appreciate him. So 100% I think he should be in that conversation. Trevor Lawrence is, I've met him one time and talked to him. Complete presence. Yeah. I mean, he is a 23, 24-year-old guy. It feels like he's 40 years old.

I felt the same way when I met Russell Wilson the first time. Trevor Lawrence is exactly what you want. You get the size, you get the arm, you get the intelligence, you get the mobility, you get the ability. He's played in big games in college and against big teams. I just love the kid. When I met him, he's so impressed. First of all, his voice is very deep. He's such an impressive kid.

He's like magnetic, right? He walks in a room. You want to hang around him. You know what he is? Really mature. Yeah. Like, I don't know anything about his parents. You can just tell.

He knows everybody's looking at him, but he's got his wife. He's just got it all buttoned up. Now that he said nice things about him, he's crazy thinking Peterson should be a coach of the year candidate. Colin, I had to look this up. What media outlet asked me for my thoughts on gambling markets for this stuff? Coach of the year, do you want to know the last time a coach did not win double digits and was coach of the year? You got to win games to be coach of the year. Well, who was?

1990. Who? Every coach, Jimmy Johnson. Every coach since then. Wow. Ten or more games. This season has an extra game. Peterson will not win.

Double-ditsonson. Jimmy Johnson, they gave Jimmy Johnson that award. 1990. Bottom line, you got to win games. I don't think that helped your point. What do you mean? No chance. That was in 1990.

The last time they did it, it was egregious, and they gave it to this bum name Jimmy Johnson. Well, Jimmy Johnson did some great things, but it was in 1990. One of the five best coaches in my life. Yeah, but I'm talking about what year. 1990 when he was coach of the year. This is a big award for the guy who wins the most. That's like saying Messi scored a couple goals. Oh, geez.

Jimmy Johnson. Nick Siriani, number one seed? He won a couple games at Oklahoma State. I think he helped my argument. Doug Peterson, coach of the year. If they beat the Titans, I don't think they will. I think the Titans are my favorite play of the weekend. Oh, okay.

I think we'll be doing that shortly. And the final story, this is a big one, Colin. Third story of the day. Oh, God. It's somebody's birthday. Yeah, big guy. Happy birthday. Was this 39?

It's the final week of the regular season. This segment, the gambling analyst for Fox Sports and FS1 is Jason McIntyre. He makes predictions, former newspaper guy that kicked that career to the curb and upgraded. He makes big, bold predictions on the headlines after the games. Are you ready? Yes, sir. All right. You're starting with my favorite pick of the week.

Tomorrow's headlines today. Titans, Jazz. The Yaggs the battle for the yucky AFC South title. It's tough to envision Josh Dobbs being a starting playoff quarterback, but the headline will be Henry the 8th. Titans execute plan to perfection. I'm with you, Colin. This is a Titans team. I took him at plus seven, took him at plus six and a half.

It's down to six. Colin, this is a scary matchup for Jacksonville. Their favorite, big number. They've been a favorite three times this season. Lost. Lost to Houston. Lost to the Giants. Lost to the Broncos.

They are used to being an underdog, and this is a tall order because Tennessee rested their guys against Dallas two weeks ago. So it's not just Derek Henry that's coming back. It's Simmons and Autry on the defensive line. Traylon Burks is trending toward playing in the secondary hooker and Fulton look like they're going to go.

Colin is a rested team. Vrable as an underdog. Like a lot of narratives line up here. I like Trevor Lawrence. I'd love to see them in the playoffs, but I'm very dubious of their chances in this one. Yep. You and me both, my favorite pick of the week.

Tomorrow's headlines today. Giants and Eagles, what say you? Yeah, it sounds like Dayball is going to rest his guys, pick up another loss, and that leads to an Eagles victory in the headline. Will me? You cannot be serious. Nick causes racket in Philly. How about that?

Little McEnroe play there. I like it. I think Siriani should be your coach of the year. I mean, goodness gracious, what a season he's had with Philly. Nobody had them being the number one seed. Not many people had them winning the division. I think with Jalen Hertz returning, even though there's no Lane Johnson this week, they have to get that number one seed to get the buy week so Lane Johnson hopefully can return.

It's a team that's banged up. They're not trending well right now, but I do think they steamroll a Giants team here that sits Sequin Barclay. I don't know if we're going to see Tibadoe out there. Sounds like Daniel Jones, they may not start him, may play him just a series or two. I think the Giants rest their guys, they get destroyed here. Eagles are favored by 14, Colin. That's a huge number. It is.

Tomorrow's headlines today. I think my second favorite pick, it's Ram C. New Hawks, NFC, West battle. We do have a lot of alignment this week. Two Capricorns, right? The headline will be, Osta la vista, Pee, Baker terminates. Carroll's playoff.

Look at Baker Mayfield, the Terminator. Colin, listen, the familiarity is there. McVeigh nearly beat the Seattle team a couple weeks ago. He's beaten Pete eight out of 12 meetings. With John Wolford. A Wolf of Wall Street was a quarterback, and they nearly took down Seattle. This is a Cam Acres spot right here.

I think Sean McVeigh is really in his bag. in this game. He would love nothing more than the takedowner division rival, eliminate them from the playoffs. I would expect a trick play or two from the Rams here. I know Seattle fans are going to not want to hear this, but there's a tough spot for

People have filmed. The weather gets worse. They face more division battles. I will say you were on this early. They drafted two tackles who have been pretty good. Yes. You got Metcalf and Lockett. You got Kenneth Walker. You put a quarterback in there next year. Pretty interesting. Bryce Young? And Denver pick at three. Well, also, Seattle's got two first, two seconds, two fourths. So they can, if they, they don't even have to draft as well as last year. They need to, I think the interior O line. Correct.

Need another edge rusher, probably another corner. They may move off Jamal Adams here pretty quick. He's very rarely. They would love to do that. Yeah. All right. Tomorrow's headlines today. Can't wait to watch this.

Lions Packers at Lambo. A game of the weekend has to be with no disrespect to Titans Jags. But the headline will be. It's alive. It's alive. Packers' playoff push rises from the dead. You got Frankenstein as Aaron Rogers. And they've won four in a row.

They were pretty much left for dead back in November. They were, they have like a five or six game losing straight? Yeah, it was terrible. And I had to look this up, Colin. This is some crazy stuff. When they lost to Detroit, by the way, the first game in his career, Rogers had thrown two red zone picks. Their leading rusher in that game was Aaron Rogers with 40 yards.

Their leading receiver. I don't even know who this is. Josiah Dugaria had five catches. they were beat up in that game. Watson was not 100%. The offensive line was makeshift. They're healthy now. All their receivers look like there are go. I think this is a tough spot for Detroit. You do play all the narratives. Detroit, Dome team. I just don't. 17 degrees. It's a big spot for the lions. Yeah. A lot of pressure. Listen, Dan Campbell's done a magnificent job. The offensive coordinator, we've mentioned him all season. Ben Johnson has been terrific. I just think it's a tough call here. Packers at home. That place is going to be very lubricated on Sunday. I like the Packers to kind of roll here and cover easily. You know what's interesting about I was thinking about this?

We started the year at Fox. We thought, you know, our bosses were like we were a little concerned about the NFC. How lucky are we? We're going to get Aaron Rogers potentially, the Cowboys, the Niners, Philadelphia is an unbelievable sports town, and Brady in the playoffs. Not bad. No, I mean, we were sitting here as a network. We're like, the NFC's got, we also get the New York Giants.

So we get the Northeast Brady, Aaron. Aaron Rogers, the Cowboys, and as you said about an hour ago, you may have said it off the air during a commercial. NFC is wide open. Super wide open. The Eagles lose first round. Would you be shocked? I don't know if I would be. Listen, I'm on record.

I think the Giants may upset the Vikings in their first round. I think they are. And that Cowboys' Bucks game feels like a coin toss. I'm worried about Dallas in that one. All right. Tomorrow's headlines today. Vikings and Bears. Now, you know the Vikings are going to bounce back, right?

Well, Justin Fields is not playing in this one. Okay, all right. The headline will be. Skoles out. Cousins shoves bears into locker. Look at Kurt Cousins with a letter jacket there. Colin, I got two words for you. Nathan Peterman.

Oh, boy. He hasn't started since 2018. He started two games that year. 67 pass attempts, five interceptions, two pick sixes. I don't know if you remember. It was really bad for Nathan Peterman. and now he's got to go behind him. One of the worst offensive lines in the league.

The defense is beat up and terrible to begin with. It looked like they quit after halftime against the Lions last week. This is a one, two, three, Cancun huddle to start the game, and I think the Vikings put it on them. Take out some revenge on just, like, they have it look good down the stretch, right? They got crushed by the cowboys. They got slaughtered by the Packers. I think the Vikings kind of open a can here.

It's like 259 or something kind of big from Minnesota. The rule in the NFL is if you're a team with a competition, competent quarterback and you get housed. The next week, you're good. This is it? So you have to have a decent quarterback. You have to be a capable offense. So Minnesota's got play.

Their defense, I will say this about the Vikings, though. I agree with you. I think the Giants are going to beat the Vikings if they play. That Viking run defense is awful. They're best defensive players, I think Patrick Peterson this season. Hasn't been very good. He's, you know, former Cardinals quarterback. All right.

Now we go to college football. Georgia T.C. Tomorrow's headlines today. I know what I feel. You go first. Yeah. Oh, boy. TCU is a great story, Colin.

Amazing run. Incredible win over Michigan. Great story. The headline will be Peach Gobbler, Georgia Feast on Frog Legs. Listen, TCU, it has been a great run. But listen, I don't want to be diminished their win over Michigan. Do you know how lucky they got last week? Two pick sixes for touchdowns.

Yeah. Michigan turnover on downs at the three-yard line. and then a fumble on the doorstep. Okay, that's like historic stuff. Michigan kind of handed the game to TCU. Who was good last week? But this is going to be Georgia bouncing back. Think about this.

Georgia got shredded by maybe the number one pick in C.J. Stroud, who was incredible. Also, Harrison. Morgan Harrison, the best receiver in college football. He's incredible. By the way, did you see what happened when he went out? In the fourth quarter, it was like, you know, different stories. So I think they're in some trouble here, TCU.

this is a friend, a teammate, a buddy, they go out to dinner with, they know their families, three feet from you, you saw players crying. And now Buffalo has gotten this unbelievably positive news. Kind of galvanizing. I think so too. They face New England. And I almost put that in.

I think Buffalo, this is such a great news for the Hamlin family, for the bills. And a tip of the cap again, you know, in the media, I've said this for years, we're a little bit like the IRS. We're not built to be loved.

We're built to inspect an audit. That's what we do. And I think sometimes we sacrifice our ethics when we try to be liked. I do think we sometimes can be a little snarky and cynical. And, you know, the media started to pick apart the NFL because they didn't cancel the game. on time. Folks, crisis is hard. I've said this to friends in the media. If you wrote all your

columns live, would you make more mistakes? Why is it harder to act on Broadway than a film? It's live. Why is broadcasting for me harder than podcasting? It's live. The NFL's a live business. How many shows in our sports space do three hours of TV? Well, not just, I'm just saying the point is is that it's hard. An NFL game has thousands of people at the league and the team level, at the network level, trying to pull it off. NFL made the right decision. They revived a young man, saved his life, first responders tip of the cap.

What was a jarring moment and deeply disturbing appears to have a positive ending. And I like that heading into a weekend of great NFL action in college football on Monday. for Jason and Ryan.
