We're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Well, it works for the NFL network. Serious XM host covering the NFL for 20-plus years since 2003. Tom Pelliserra, friend of the show, is joining us now live. There's a lot of talk about Ty Simpson. And, you know, we had talked about this today, Tom, that I do think he's a lower first-round guy, better than Kenny Pickett.
Starting point is 00:03:26 I don't think he's his talented as Malik Willis, but I like him more than most. I don't think he's Fernando Mendoza, but Dan Orlowski throws it out there. it's silly season. But I do think he has good tape. And I think, and I said this about Jackson Dart, Tom. When you have Lane Kiffin for three years into Brian Dayball, that's a good handoff. That's a lot of smart coaching. Ole Miss plays in the SEC. You've seen real defenses. Same thing. I mean, Kalen DeBoard, Nick Saban. I mean, is Ty Simpson despite those few starts when you, when you talk to guys in the league? Is he a guy like Jackson Dart? You know, somebody, it takes one team to fall in love with you. the Giants did.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Could he be like a mid-round first-round pick? I think he's different, Colin, than Jackson Dart, in that with Jackson-Dart, you're trying to project what you're seeing in that Ole Miss offense, which does have some pro-concepts to what he's going to be asked to do in the NFL. If you want to like, if you want to buy in to Ty Simpson, and some coaches in front office people certainly do, you're looking at the fact that there's a lot of things on tape.
Starting point is 00:04:29 You recognize he is under center. he's turning his back to the line of scrimmage on play action more than virtually anybody in the country, which is something that anybody from the McVeigh-Shannahan type of system, you want to see him do. Obviously, the second half of the season didn't go as well. He had a pretty severe case of gastritis. He dropped under 200 pounds. We all saw him getting knocked around in the bowl game.
Starting point is 00:04:50 Listen, I'm not making excuses for the guy, but the protection wasn't great. There were quite a few dropped balls. In the end, the production wasn't good enough. It's a gamble. There's a lot of coaches and executives in the end. NFL that really believe if you don't have 20 starts it's too much of a risk coming out of college Ty Simpson is below that. Fernando Menjosa is more of a projection in terms of the offense he's coming from but you've also seen him do it for a long time in big situations including the national championship.
Starting point is 00:05:17 There's no doubt in my mind Fernando Mendoza is going to be the number one pick to the Raiders. As Ty Simpson go in the top half of the first round, I wouldn't rule that out. At the end of the day, there's such a drop-up to that next tier of quarterbacks. Listen, it's still early in the the process here, but hard for me to believe that Ty Simpson is not ending up going in round one. So I'm going to throw this at you. So, you know, Mike McCarthy can say whatever he wants. You know, Aaron's not giving him an answer. He's done that dance before. And Will Howard kind of projects as a backup. You look at Pittsburgh. And I can see Mike McCarthy brought some of his Packer staff over. You know, he left Dallas. He didn't want the silliness. So I look at the Aaron thing.
Starting point is 00:06:01 and I think, Mike's dealt with Aaron. He's dealt with Jerry Jones. He wants stability. And I could see Tom, Mike McCarthy's saying, hey, I don't want to get. We're too good of a roster. I don't want to get into a bidding war next year for quarterbacks and have to give up three ones. We may be able to give up a two and get our future quarterback. And again, we don't know what Aaron's doing.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Pittsburgh to me, I mean, the backup's a backup. Your star is older. You need a quarterback. why not? I mean, McCarthy's an offensive guy. He made Cooper Rush viable. Doesn't Pittsburgh make some sense? You have to wonder if the Kenny Pickett draft pick that you brought up scars them organizationally at least a little bit. Because Kenny Pickett was in the same draft as Malik Willis and Desmond Ritter, among others. Nobody thought Kenny Pickett was like a really bona fide clear QB1, but he was good enough. He obviously had been literally in the building connected to them playing at Pitt.
Starting point is 00:07:00 seen a ton of tape. You want to talk about the guy who started games. He started over 50 games in college. But there's a reason those guys go in the middle of the first round. And the hit rate on anybody as a quarterback who's not going in the top 10 to 12 picks is substantially lower here. I would also say this. There's nobody in the league coaching-wise that I would trust more in terms of quarterback evaluation and development than Mike McCarthy. It's a big reason that he's in Pittsburgh right now. You look at through the course of time, he's had I think, top 10 offense is like 13 of his 18 seasons. He developed Aaron Rogers. He led the second act of Brett Farr of in 2007 when he was the MVP runner up immediately when he took over with Dak.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Dak played his best football as well. I do think there's something to Will Howard in a, hey, he's on the roster and we liked him coming out. And I know for a fact, Mike liked him coming out as well. Let's at least see what he's got here. But I don't think calling anybody sitting back and what if Aaron is now, if Aaron doesn't come back, bang, 17 games of Will Howard. It's not. like that. They obviously have not made a move for any of the other quarterbacks who have been traded for or have signed elsewhere. It's a pretty short list at this point of Kirk Cousins and Jimmy Garoppolo that are still out there on the street that maybe can be a short-term starter. There's a lot of different moving parts here. I wouldn't rule out anything, including drafting
Starting point is 00:08:17 Ty Simpson. Having said that, do I foresee that being the direction that they go? I would lean no, not to Pittsburgh, but it's going to depend in part on how exactly this first round falls and what Mike and Omar and Andy Wiedel and their scouts ultimately come to the conclusion that Ty Simpson can be in the NFL. So two weeks ago, A.J. Brown to the Ram rumors. And then the Pooka story breaks. And you're like, they probably got a heads up two weeks out. I said this that they're buttoned up. McVeigh don't tolerate it. McVeater won't tolerate egos. Like it's, you know, everything's on Matt Stafford, timeline. Let's get Matt grownups. And the Puka stuff, this is about the third. time he stepped in it.
Starting point is 00:08:59 Lawyers are going to protect him, but I don't buy what they're saying. You know, first of all, he'll have a market. It's, you know, what did you just make it? But when you saw that story, what was the first thing you thought? My first take was, oh, McVeigh's got no time for this. He's got, he's too buttoned up. What was your first thought? Well, I would say this.
Starting point is 00:09:22 You have a situation where Puka, over the last, however many months, put himself at minimum into some disadvantageous situations without getting into the legal situation. Obviously, you saw the statement from Pooka's attorney saying that they were demands of multimillion dollars and that temporary restraining order was requested. It was denied. They'll have their side. This will play out in terms of, you know, a potential civil process here with Pooka Nakua. I don't think that that has any, I am very confident, has nothing to do with A.J. Brown. This is a situation that is played out recently here with Puka. With A.J. Brown, this is still about Matthew Stafford.
Starting point is 00:10:03 You're right on that, call it, in terms of you're trying to figure out how do we push this thing across the finish line right now. You already traded a first round pick for Trent McDuffie. I can see the Rams still trading the first round pick for somebody. Probably not what they were offering for A.J. Brown, but it would have to be something significant for the Eagles to consider doing it. I don't get at the sense at this point that anything is imminent or even in the United States. the works with the Rams. Remember, if the Eagles were to trade A.J. Brown, this hasn't changed. If they trade them prior to June 1st, there's a massive acceleration that takes place because how the Eagles use void years and dead money. That would all hit the cap in 2026. After June 1st,
Starting point is 00:10:42 it becomes a lot easier to swallow that pill. So if something's going to happen with A.J. Brown, in all likelihood, it doesn't mean they can't do it. It just would be a lot harsher to do it now versus two, three months down the road. But when it comes to Puka, he's still, one of the best players in the entire NFL. He is still somebody who's going to be in line for a big contract extension at some point. I don't get the sense that the Rams are really in much of a rush to do something with Puka. But again, I wouldn't directly connect that to any of the stuff that they've had to deal with with Puka off the field.
Starting point is 00:11:14 For one thing, the Rams have been burned in the past multiple times by doing early contract extensions and they didn't work out. It happened with Todd Gurley. It happened with Jared Gough, where they had to eat cash and cap and transfer. guys as negative assets like they did in the Stafford Tray where they shipped golf off to Detroit. Also, Puka, he is under contract only for one more year, but you've got multiple franchise tags on top of it. They've got time. A big deal obviously got done. It's a little apples to oranges with Jackson Smith and Jigba because he was a first rounder. Puka was not. It's March 25th.
Starting point is 00:11:46 We're not in contract extension territory. It's pretty rare to do them this early in the offseason. This is probably more so something we're going to be talking about in June and July, potentially getting done with Puka. And we'll see how some of these other things at a league level and a legal level play out between now and then. Finally, the Vikings went and got Kyler Murray and, you know, well documented commitment issues. But some of that is a lot of good people leave Arizona and can flourish. It's a wonky organization. The bidwell is not a strong ownership group.
Starting point is 00:12:18 They're not. And I've had friends who have played and been executives. And there's a lot of nonsense. And I look at the Kyler Murray thing, and I know he's small, but Kevin O'Connell knows quarterbacks. You know, we saw the Darnold turnaround. What it tells me is if Kevin doesn't necessarily believe for 17 games in J.J. McCarthy, that's not great for J.J. McCarthy.
Starting point is 00:12:46 I tend to be a believer in that actually, Kyler isn't getting paid. He's actually going to be a little bit of a steal. Maybe not a Sam Darnold hit. Is your view and the view around the league that we could get a little bit of a darn old feel here where it's like, yeah, it was the organization. It wasn't Kyler and they go 11 and 6. Is there any vibe around the league on that? There's some of that. I mean, we can, not even in hindsight, but in present sight, you could look at a quarterback and Kyler Murray, who you felt the need to insert a homework clause into the contract and say, if you're feeling like you have to do that, maybe don't give them a contract that you are still paying him guaranteed money on.
Starting point is 00:13:26 this year while he's playing for the Vikings for the minimum salary. That's a side story. I would say this. It's different with Kyler coming in because we haven't seen Kyler in this type of a system. Yes, you had some elements of it with Drew Petzing there over the last several years, but the way that Kevin O'Connell wants to run his offense, we don't know what that fit is going to be. What we know is this guy was the number one overall pick back in 2019. He is one of the rare elusive guys in the NFL when he's fully healthy.
Starting point is 00:13:54 he does still have speed. He can still make people miss. He's always had a big arm. Let's take a shot on a guy who's only 28 years old. And maybe, as you said, they strike gold on this. And then, all right, let's try to extend him and make him the quarterback of the future. Now, Kyler got a no-tag con clause in that contract. That was the only thing that was there for his agent, Eric Burkart to negotiate,
Starting point is 00:14:15 because that means if this goes the way that Kyler wants it to, he plays well in 2026. And they can't tag them. They can't stop them. He becomes the number one free agent. in 2027, but we can't overlook this. This is a competitive situation where they're hoping it's also going to elevate J.J. McCarthy. And I know that people might hear me say that and go, well, that's what the team line is going to be. No, I fully anticipate from a rep standpoint, from a competition
Starting point is 00:14:39 standpoint, they are going to put those two guys head to head through the entire off season and see who comes out on top. It's not as if J.J. McCarthy has fallen flat on his face every time he's taking the field. I was at the game in Detroit last year where he'd been off for six weeks because of a high ankle sprain. He didn't have to throw the ball a ton in that game, but there is no way you could walk out of that building and not say, JJ McCarthy can be an NFL quarterback, but he had the hand, the fracture that he was dealing with for a chunk of the season, ended up ending this season. He had the high ankle sprain. He had the concussion the year before that. It was a meniscus surgery. He played a lot of football
Starting point is 00:15:13 in college. He had a high degree of success in college. But in terms of who JJ is in the NFL, I'd kind of put him in the same bucket a little bit as an Anthony Richardson or a Trey Land. where we have no idea. We know the guys got talent, but when you're talking about only having a small number, I think he started seven games last season, it's hard to say, all right, we're going to let him go in unopposed and be the guy again.
Starting point is 00:15:36 I haven't talked to JJ. I would imagine JJ wasn't thrilled about Kyler coming in, but the Vikings are in a spot where they're like, let's get a couple of guys with a chip on their shoulder to go fight it out. And as for the Carson Wentry signing, that doesn't bear on this really in any regard. I expect Carson Wentz is going to be
Starting point is 00:15:53 the clear QB3 going into the off season here. He doesn't need a ton of reps. He's played a ton of football. You know exactly what he is. He's there, Colin, because the two years that Kevin O'Connell had his quarterback, stay healthy throughout the entire season. They went something like 27 and 9.
Starting point is 00:16:10 The other two years, he started Jaron Hall and Max Brosmer and traded for Josh Dobbs. That's what you were left with at the quarterback position. They want to have optionality. There's a scenario here where Kyler wins the job, and JJ's the two. There's a scenario that JJ wins this job. He's the one. And then you've got to figure out, do we keep Kyler as the two? Does Kyle want to go someplace else? I don't think if JJ gets beat out, it even makes sense to try to go someplace else because no young quarterback should
Starting point is 00:16:36 want to get traded right before the season, no reps, no familiarity, no rhythm and timing and tempo and just get thrown out there in another spot. That's how you end a guy's career. J.J. McCarthy's career, to a degree in the early stages, the Minnesota version is on the line over these next several months. those two guys are going to be duking it out. It's going to be one of the fun competitions also. All right. Tom Pellasaro, good stuff. NFL Network.
Starting point is 00:16:58 Tom, we appreciate you stopping by. Always gone. Yeah, I think it's got like a 75% Sam Darnold feel to me. I think Darnold's better. And a lot of it's just he's bigger, stronger, has a better arm. J-Mack is not a Kyler-Murie fan. It's well-documented. You know.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Be sure to catch live editions of the herd. Weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Hi, this is Jay. I'm the producer of the Pauli and Tony Fusco show. Usually in these promos, they ask you to listen to the show. I'm here to ask you, please don't listen to this show. The host are two absolute morons who have the dumbest takes on sports imaginable. Don't listen to this show so it can get canceled.
Starting point is 00:17:41 Whoa, whoa, what the hell are you doing in our studio? Get him, Paulie. Ignore that fool. Listen to the Paul and Tony Fuscoe show on the IHart Radio app or wherever you get your podcast. He's still moving. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name?
Starting point is 00:18:00 Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend.
Starting point is 00:18:13 But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And, well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this.
Starting point is 00:18:36 We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's
Starting point is 00:19:33 telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody
Starting point is 00:19:49 gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context and ask the questions everybody wants answered. SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis.
Starting point is 00:20:21 And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jenchian win. I mean, she went down at three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Listen, Lena Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, Good luck. Consider this your court-side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. J-Mac with a news. No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the Herdline News. For the record, I was a Kyler-Marie defender. Then the homework clause and stuff came out. Remember I had a source in Arizona told me some other. stuff that wasn't great on him and I backed off.
Starting point is 00:21:53 You are the Kyler Murray guy. I like how we have your guys and my guys. Yeah, Darnold's my guy. Kyler Murray's underrated. You like Purdy. Who else do you like? Oh, Jalen Hertz. You love Jalen Hurts. Yeah. Jalen Hurts season, baby.
Starting point is 00:22:09 All right, let's go to the NBA, Colin. I don't think this guy is either of our guys. Cape Cunningham. I'm sure you saw the news. He's got a collapse lung. He's going to miss the rest of the regular season. He will now land on like 61 games. games played. Code for he ain't eligible for all NBA. This is a guy who was third in the MVP voting, MVP odds, as recently as three weeks ago. The league is ticked off. The Players Association put out a statement saying the rule must be abolished or reformed to create an exemption for significant
Starting point is 00:22:39 injuries. So guys who are ineligible to be all NBA this season, even if the numbers say it, LeBron, Curry, Embed, and guys who are close is Yokic. You can't miss 18. team games. Yokic is, if he has to miss two games with an ingrown toenail or something, a baseball player sneeze and their backs out, they got to miss a couple games. Yokic ineligible. I do think, Colin, there is something, this rule is a little goofy, while at the same time, I will agree. More players are playing. They implemented the rule because of load management, and it just so happens. Kate Cunningham had a real injury. Yeah. But rules are rules. Now, you can, again,
Starting point is 00:23:16 next year you can modify it but i mean they put they didn't it didn't just make it up and and the play they did it because the players were taking too many days off so the players and their agents and their reps can complain about it you started it the league didn't want to do this this was not something that adam silver just cooked up at a barbecue with friends he did this because of the load management nonsense so players and their agents and their reps and the n b a p a it's on you. This had to be implemented to stop all the tanking and the avoiding playing. Okay. So when people put down hard and fast rules, you know, you're as a father, you put down hard rules in the house. And then you have to create some wiggle room for unique situations and
Starting point is 00:24:02 circumstances. Don't you think that kind of sort of applies here? Again, a guy like Cade who was an MVP top three guy. It was Yokic, SGA, and Cade like three weeks ago. And now he's going to get shut out of first team all NB and everything? You don't think there's a little something wrong with that? And again, it's almost like this. You want to talk about kids and rules. Yeah. If my son had broken curfew eight times and the new rule is 9 p.m. in bed.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Oh, that's harsh. We're going to have no wiggle room because you created the referendum. But you say you, Cade Cunningham didn't do anything. It's by at large. No, but he's a player in the NBA, and because a lot of star players of his talent, you know, listen, there's always unintended consequences for rules. Somebody always gets punished. I mean, a lot of rich people are philanthropic, a lot of rich people are selfish, but rich people
Starting point is 00:25:05 get taxed more. You know, so you're saying like, well, I'm philanthropic anyway. Why are you taxing me more? you know, because too many, maybe rich people don't, aren't philanthropic or skirt the system. So the point is there's winners and losers on all this stuff in all these leagues. And, you know, like I think one of the things the NFL PA fought for was less practice time. I think it's absolutely absolutely hurt offensive line play in the NFL, the one unit you need cohesion more than anything. and there's fewer practices with pads,
Starting point is 00:25:42 and therefore I think offensive line play starts really slowly. You get a lot of quarterbacks dinged up early. I think offensive line play in September, October can be awful. And I think a lot of that's the, you know, let's get rid of some practice time in the hitting. There's always unintended consequences. Yeah, I don't know. It's just, it's a little disappointing. But I get it.
Starting point is 00:26:02 You know, players seem to be taking fewer nights off. Hell, Austin Reeves, LeBron, and Luca played on a back-to-back line. last week. Remember the game against Rockets and then they had to go to Miami? Oh my gosh. Everybody thought they were going to sit out. Playing basketball on back-to-back nights. Stop it. How heroic. Oh, my God. Austin Reeves, back-to-back played basketball. You go to the YMCA six nights a week and you're an old guy.
Starting point is 00:26:26 I don't have a lot of, I mean, sorry. Oh, my God. These guys, these Lakers played back-to-back games. You know, you're making $40 million a year. I think you can play basketball for 48 minutes. They were wheels down in Miami at 4 a.m. And played that night, Colin. Have a heart, my friend. All right. First of all, when you're in Miami, you're wheels down at 4 a.m. all the time. Oh, he's got to lie for everything.
Starting point is 00:26:48 All right, let's move on to the NFL, Colin. This is, you know, their quarterback controversies. There aren't a ton of them in the league the last couple years, but one seems to be brewing in Atlanta. Tua Tongavaloa will battle Michael Pennix for the starting job. And Tua said, hey, man, I'm ready to compete after playing like crap last year. my play wasn't up to the standard of the way I've been playing football the past, what, three years since the new contract. So just got to play better football.
Starting point is 00:27:20 That's what that really means. There's no other way to sugarcoat that or go around that. You just don't go from being a competitor to, let me just relax a little bit. I just don't think that's how it works. You're either competitor or you're not. And so I embrace the competition. I like that unicorn raft in the background. He looks like he's chilling in Miami.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Maybe he's in Caribbean Island like you. You know what? I am strangely interested in because basically, Penix is a bigger, stronger, too. I think it's a really smart signing. I mean, I think they have very similar games. Left handers, accurate throwers, throw a pretty football.
Starting point is 00:28:04 I think Pennix is bigger, stronger. better power arm, but I am really interested to see how this plays out. This is a fun one. I know, you know, some people are like, oh, Atlanta Falcons, who cares? So remember, when Pennix was coming out, I begged the Dolphins to draft Pennix, because Tua had those concussion issues. Well, now, Pennix gets an offensive coach. He did not have one before.
Starting point is 00:28:26 Stefanski's an offensive guy. Tua's had an offensive coach. My belief is Pennix wins the job and has a monster year. But then again, you know me. I like the Falcons. I like the bet on them. Yeah. You love Pennix at Washington. Yeah, I mean, the concerns about him are he's a little stationary and he had injuries.
Starting point is 00:28:43 And those are both totally fair. By the way, that's the knock on, too, a small stationary and had some injuries. So they're very, I mean, that's, to me, Panix's comp was Tua. He's a bigger Tua. So I think it's a smart move by Atlanta. And now they have Stafansky. So I don't know why this interests me so much, but this is a really interesting quarterback. I think Panix wins it too.
Starting point is 00:29:06 It's a great battle. We'll wrap up, Colin, because the staff loves to throw you some flowers because, you know, they want to keep the big guy happy. So one of your teams for next year is the New York Giants. You love them. You're all in. You're betting their win total. You probably have them to go to the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:29:22 Well, the odds are out now for Coach of the Year, and wouldn't you know it, but your guy, John Harbaugh, plus 500. The leader. Jesse Minter somehow is second. That is insane at plus 800. Robert Sama. His third. Oh, like, Kellan Moore, Joe Brady, and Mike McCarcy.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Listen, I don't hate this bet. Obviously, you don't want to tie up big money for, what, seven months by betting this now. But Harbaugh, for sure, is going to have the Giants much better next year. Yeah, that Sala would be a decent bet. Callan Moore, is interesting. He was solid last year. He was. Better than I thought.
Starting point is 00:29:59 I kept banging on the same. Well, it was the colorback that the guy from Louisville, who's like 48 years old, Yeah. Is actually played pretty well. He was solid. I mean, the Saints think they have a franchise guy. Let's get more than half a season.
Starting point is 00:30:13 I'm trying to think who I would think coach of the year. It ain't going to be Joe Brady. We know that. McCarthy's interesting. The problem with McCarthy is with Tomlin, you always won double-digit games. And McCarthy's not winning 15. So the truth is, what if they just, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:29 they win 10 games? Well, if they win 10 games with Will Howard, that's probably going to win the award. That probably does. I think your intention. Do you think Aaron's playing? No. He's enjoying another darkness retreat.
Starting point is 00:30:43 He's going to ask you and I to go on an aahuasca trip with him. I'm not going to do that. I might take him up on it. I don't like hard drugs. Why not? That's a joke, obviously. Don't need anybody coming after me online for that one. Hard drugs.
Starting point is 00:30:58 Yeah, I'm not. Soft drugs are cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah. A J-Mac with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The herd lie news. We'll say, well, ayahuasca is not a hard drug.
Starting point is 00:31:10 You take it and throw up. That doesn't feel like a red stripe with some fish tacos to me. I don't know. It's like when people talk about, you know, you ever watch these commercials, and they got all these like pharmaceuticals on commercials, and when they get to the seventh qualifier, you know, like, oh, you may have convulsions. I think I'm just going to put a band-aid on that sort. and not take a pill.
Starting point is 00:31:34 It's kind of my rule. If you're if you're hurling things out of your body from any end, I'm not taking the pill. That's kind of my thing. In Chicago. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers. And guess what?
Starting point is 00:31:55 We have some big news. What's the news, huge news? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed. First people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts.
Starting point is 00:32:08 We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes.
Starting point is 00:32:30 I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast. people could call in and say, hey Jonas, and then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest. SNL's Mikey Day and headwriter Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:33:16 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs. And on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on clay. Jen should win. I mean, she went down at three.
Starting point is 00:34:34 to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lena Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:34:56 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Saturday night, it's baseball night on Fox. Catch reigning MVP Aaron Judge as he leads the Yankees against the Giants or Bobby Witt Jr. And the Royals take on Ronald Acuna Jr. and the Braves. Baseball night in America returns Saturday at 7 Eastern on Fox.
Starting point is 00:35:51 Check local listings for the game in your area. According to Adam Schefter, Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson, I would not wish this on any quarterback is holding a private, work out Friday with the New York Jets. Field Yates also were a reporter there. The Jets on the second and the 16th pick. I mean, that would just ruin Ty Simpson. I mean, listen, there's two teams in this league that are just going to be not only awful but unwatchable, Jets in Arizona.
Starting point is 00:36:23 Then there's a couple of teams that may not be great, but Cleveland's going to be fun to watch because Shooter Sanders. And Miami's not going to be very good. But, yeah, I just, I feel terrible. I mean, Aaron Glenn does not know what he's doing. Can you imagine being a defensive coach and the Jets did not have a single interception? Like, you do not know what you're doing. I always say, I judge a coach on his side of the ball.
Starting point is 00:36:50 That's why I defend guys like Lincoln Riley. His offense is number one in the country. USC's offense is unbelievable. He knows offense. Now, is he a culture creator? Oh, I don't know. We'll see. but here is the
Starting point is 00:37:03 here's the draft order Mendoza goes one Arvel Reese the Jets will take a big swing even though Arville Reese doesn't really have a position yet the Jets are low self-esteem
Starting point is 00:37:19 you know they'll take a big swing and you know like most people with low self-esteem their confidence is way higher than their reality so they'll we'll figure him out we know what we're doing. Arizona should take an offensive lineman, the Miami guy that can go right tackle or interior. Titans, they could go a lot of different ways. Give a young quarterback, a star running back. Jeremiah Love, I'd be okay. Carnel Tate, give him a star receiver. Titans
Starting point is 00:37:49 always feel like they're one or two wide receivers shy. Robert Salah likes defense. Maybe go Bailey, the edge rusher who, you know, he's a plug-in-play guy. I don't think he has a great ceiling. Giants, they may go running back. I would go get the right tackle from Utah. Cleveland needs a receiver. Carnell Tate makes a ton of sense. Commanders need defense. You know, sunny styles.
Starting point is 00:38:14 You know, Saints need a lot. I mean, nobody's talking about this. What about Miami? I mean, Miami now got that defensive coat. But I mean, Jeff Halfley was in Green Bay and they had two really good quarterbacks. So they got, well, they have Malik Willis. I could see Miami trading. Now, Miami's got too many draft picks.
Starting point is 00:38:48 They're not trading down. They've got, I think they have four threes. So they've got Malik Willis. Yeah. In fact, if we had to make a bet right now, if somebody that moved up, I think it's the Miami Dolphins at 11. And hear me out. So the dolphins have two firsts, a second, four thirds.
Starting point is 00:39:11 Do you think it's worth, if you're the Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns are sitting there at six and need a wide receiver, you let go of Jalen Waddle, the dolphins, Jeff Hathley's like, I don't need four thirds. Would you trade a third and a fourth to go get Carnell Tate at number six? the clear number one in this draft. Because again, the dolphins have so, they have 11 picks, and you say, well, they need to rebuild. Well, they got the quarterback right. So what you want to do, I mean, do you want to just spend all those picks on a bunch of young kids around Malik Willis? Or do you want to go out and be like, I can see the dolphins getting the right tackle funnel from Utah or Carnell Tate? let's get a legitimate
Starting point is 00:39:59 tackle or a legitimate star receiver that can grow with Malik Willis. That I could see. The danger of having 11 draft picks is you get really young. Well, Malik Willis is really young. And Malik Willis only has six starts. You want to roll him out there with a bunch of kids?
Starting point is 00:40:18 I mean, you let go at Jalen Waddle. You got to give him something. Remember when Bryce Young came in and they got rid of DJ Moore at Carolina and he had nobody to throw to. And they went out and drafts. at Team Act, and now he's become a number one, and Legate the year before. But that really stunted
Starting point is 00:40:33 the growth, to me, of Bryce Young for a year. He had nobody to throw to. It's the worst receiving room in the league. Well, now, Tyreek Hill's gone. Jalen Waddle's gone. You've got to give him something. Yeah. You can find receivers everywhere in the draft. Come, let me go back to you bashing the Jets. I do kind
Starting point is 00:40:49 of love it, because I feel like it's personal. You're taking jabs at me. You want to just kind of wind me up. No, I'm being honest. Well, here's the thing. I just saw, according to Courtney Cronin, who covers the Bears for the other place. She said there's one GM at Alabama's Pro Day to watch Ty Simpson. And that's Chicago Bears GM, Ryan Poles. Now that's according to a reporter on site.
Starting point is 00:41:12 One GM, what does that tell you? GM has more clout than the coaches. So if one GM is watching Ty Simpson throw at Alabama's Pro Day, that tells me there is no interest in this guy. None. Now, maybe there's other GMs that she didn't see. but one guy, and why Chicago's GM there? What's he doing there?
Starting point is 00:41:30 Maybe he's looking at offensive linemen or some other position. Yeah, he's looking at, he's probably looking at some of it. He's not looking at Ty Simpson. What does that tell you? One GM there, bro? Come on. Well, you know what it tells you? That's a really good question. It tells you it's a smokescreen. So, Ty, there's probably a couple teams that think Ty Simpson,
Starting point is 00:41:49 because we know seven teams need a quarterback. So what it tells you is the teams that, remember, fewer teams are going to combine now fewer teams are going to the combine pro day is like combine light you're throwing to your own guys it's weak so what it tells you i'm let's say i'm a gm and i like ty simpson i'm pittsburgh well do i really want to go to the pro day erin's going to hear about it will howard's like what's what's going on no i can Pittsburgh i got all the tape i want i went to the combine he threw it the combine my take is i'm a gm and i want this guy at 12 or 13, I'm not letting anybody know I like him.
Starting point is 00:42:31 I don't want somebody jumping me and getting him. So I don't think, I think this says people like Ty Simpson. There's a couple of teams that really like this is too obvious. I think it says there's two teams that like him, but they're not going to go near the pro day because they don't want anybody to jump ahead of them in the draft. See how smart I am, J. Maconoh is playing chess over here. See, I'm on. Hey, guys, it's us.
Starting point is 00:42:58 The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. Nice. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
