This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away,
such as the biology of tauntons and wampas on the ice planet hot,
or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule.

Art Radio app, welcome in. Happy Friday to you. It's Masters Weekend. You'll get the scores updated from
Ryan Music here, about 10 minutes. But through 16, amateur, it's amateur hour in a good way,
though. Sam Bennett, four under through 16, four under through 16. Eight on the tournament,
right? So on track for back-to-back 68's.
any and bad. Only Brooks Keppko, who fired out a 67 in the second round after a 65 in the first round,
is better. Some other golfers playing really well. K.H. Lee is five under for the day. Russell
Henley, four under for the day. So you can score today. And then, of course, we'll get down to
not just the big names, but also the biggest name, Tiger Woods. Is he waiting? Is he there?
Good. Jason Sobel joins us. Of course, he writes for the action networks for the action network.
joins us here in the herd.
Doug Gottliebilling in for Colin.
Let's get to Sam Bennett.
Every amateur is different.
When Tiger was an amateur, this would have been expected.
Sam Bennett, is he that decorated a guy that we can expect him to actually play at this level over the weekend?
Yeah, good afternoon, Doug.
No, I had to answer the question.
I don't think anybody saw this coming from Sam Bennett.
Look, he's a great story.
A kid that has never taken a lesson in his life, the reigning U.S. Amateur Champion,
who was actually down in the final match last year,
and really had some great shots down the stretch to win the title.
But, no, I don't think anybody saw this coming for an amateur to be up there with really a slew of huge names.
I mean, from Brooks Kepka to John Rom, Victor Hovlin, Jason Day,
there really isn't another lesser name on that leaderboard right now.
But there's Sam Bennett right in the middle of all of them, which is really impressive right now.
Not as impressive as Brooks Kepka.
And here's what I said, like, look, of all the live golfers, right, they're kind of wearing the black cap.
The guy who probably embraces that the most is Brooks Kepka.
He just, you know, he doesn't mind and care.
He just does what he does.
Is that fair?
Yeah, I would have said Patrick Reed prior to the week starting.
I really thought Patrick Reed was a guy who did that as well.
But, yes, there's a 1A and a 1B.
It's certainly Brooks Kepka being the other guy.
with that mind and the weather upcoming this weekend which looks like a lot of rain which makes it obviously longer and that seems to fit Brooks
you know playing from ahead is one thing but playing from ahead when the golf course is getting longer and plays your strength seems like
I mean I don't want to it's never a layup but it does feel like his tournament clearly to win it certainly does Doug I know some of your listeners maybe aren't
diehard golf fans maybe only kind of tune into the majors and
They see Brooks Kepka's name at the top of the leaderboard at a major championship.
They go, yeah, that makes sense.
Brooks Lilley's up there.
I can tell you that hasn't happened recently.
I just sat through a fascinating Brooks Kepka press conference after the round where he admitted that last year after a miscutt.
He tried to punch a hole through the back windshield of his courtesy car.
There was a lot of frustration.
There was a lot of doubt over his future.
He had a bad knee injury that was lingering for a while.
He left for Livgolf not long afterwards.
And, you know, a lot of that he admits is due to all of that doubt and due to not knowing just where his career was headed.
And yet a year later, here we are back again.
The same Brooks that we saw through 2017 to 19 win four major championships.
And he says he feels really, really similar to the way he felt bad, not only with his body and the shape he's in right now, but his game and his game looked terrific today.
All right.
What about Tiger?
You know, he's right at the cut line, right at the cut line after a 74 yesterday.
I know he was kind of shuffling around a little bit, and the hills, you know, it's not just the greens being undulated,
but the entire golf course is a really hard walk.
What's the like that he makes the cut?
Look, you know, he's got a chance at it.
I think that Tiger, more than anybody, is hoping the rain stays away this afternoon.
especially the lightning stays away.
If we do get thunderstorms, if they do delay play,
it means they probably won't finish today.
They come back tomorrow.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a high in the upper 40s, low 50s
with winds close to 30 miles an hour.
That is not Tiger Woods kind of weather right now on his rebuilt body.
And so I can't imagine he's looking forward to that,
if that is indeed a possibility.
As far as Tiger himself, he looks older.
He looks a little weaker out there on the golf course.
he's hobbled a little bit more.
He's been telling us this for a while now.
He can't go out there and play on a regular basis anymore.
So he's going to give it a go for the major championships whenever he can.
But I read a different Tiger on Tuesday morning in the interview room for 25 years.
This is a guy who even when he wasn't playing his best, even when he wasn't feeling his best,
would show up in a major and say, I'm here to win.
That's it.
That's the only reason I show up these things.
I'm trying to win a trophy.
And this week, he talked about gratitude.
He talked about gratefulness.
He talked about how much Augusta National has meant to him over the years
and how proud he is to be able to come back here every year and compete alongside the world's best.
Look, there is nothing wrong with any of that.
I loved what he had to say, but it's definitely a different narrative from what he said over the last quarter century.
This is interesting.
You know, Robert Lucetis joined us yesterday.
He wrote the Tiger biography, and he's like, look, Tiger's not, he's not going to go out there in fire 80s, right?
And you said he's talking about gratitude and all these things.
I mean, nobody's going to tell Tiger.
When will he tell himself?
I shouldn't do this because it's going to hurt my legacy.
It's a great question.
I don't think it will hurt his legacy,
but I don't know that Tiger wants to become that ceremonial golfer.
He just referenced.
He said it in the past.
He said, you know, look, I want to go out there and win golf tournaments.
I think that's going to be tougher and tougher for him to deal with as he moves forward.
as he starts to handle the reality that maybe he doesn't have a chance of winning one of these anymore,
but does he want to see the guys?
Does he want to go out there and compete?
Does he want to feel just the energy of the competition still?
It's really hard to let go, and I know other golfers have said it in the past.
Look, Jack Nicholas didn't want to become a ceremonial golfer.
Arnold Palmer didn't want to become a ceremonial golfer.
If you'd ask them, at the age that Tiger is right now, they would have said,
no, I'll never do that when I get older.
They all do it, though.
it wouldn't be a surprise to see Tigerwood that the age of 60, if he still can,
coming out here to Augusta National and seeing it up, knowing that he's only ceremonial,
knowing that he can't have even a chance of making the cut, let alone winning,
but still wanting to come out here and do it just because he can.
We're a year into live golf thing, and they put Phil Mickelson with a couple of gibronies, right?
That, like, nobody...
And he's actually, Phil's actually playing really well, as he only does.
We talked about Brooks.
One year later, first masters since the LiveGolf Exodus,
and of course the PGA has kind of evolved in reaction to it.
What's the overall feel of all of this on the tour?
So personally, I've felt for a while now, Doug,
that as the PGA tour is competition,
live golf feels more like entertainment.
And there's nothing wrong with that.
As I say to people all the time, look,
if you like live better than the PGA tour, if you feel like that's more your lane, enjoy it.
The shotgun starts, hey, look, if you want to go to a golf tournament and the entire thing is over in four,
four and a half hours, I can see the upside in that as a fan.
If you like the fact, they play music and they're wearing shorts and there's more of a low-key attitude,
I can understand liking that, that's fine.
But I do think even though they're playing golf, both leagues, they're completely different products.
All of that said, I think what we've learned.
this week is that if you're writing off the live players saying they don't play quote
unquote real golf or they can't compete with the guys who are on the pGA tour what i think we're
finding right now is that uh that's completely not the case that if anything maybe these live players
who aren't playing 72 whole events on a weekly basis maybe they get up so to speak a little bit
more for these major championships when they do indeed qualify and we're seeing a bunch of them
either on the leaderboard or just off the leaderboard right now and play some good golf or maybe
they're just really good golfers, and it doesn't really matter.
They're going to be really good golfers because really good golfers are really good golfers.
Jason, you're the best, man.
I appreciate you, join us.
Look forward to seeing your work as the weekend rolls on.
Thanks, Doug.
Appreciate it.
My guy Jason Sobel, join us from the Action Network covering golf.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day
but just so y'all know
I mean at this point
Mark this is the second episode
where we've discussed crack
so I'm starting to see
there's a through line
We also have AIDS
on the table right now
so
Thank you finishing that sentence
I don't think
there's a more important year
for black people
Really?
Yeah for me
It's one of the most important
years for black people
in American history

Man, I can't wait for this best for last.
I'm excited about it.
In the meantime, let's get to Ryan Music with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Oh, Doug.
What was that?
Listen, when you're as hot as Sam Bennett, it'll take your breath away.
Never had a golf lesson.
That's incredible.
Yeah, he's heading to, he's through 17, heading to the 18th,
through almost two complete rounds, one boge at Augusta.
Unbelievable this kid.
All right, we'll turn our attention to the NBA.
The Mavericks are circling the drain, if you will.
Technically, they still have their playoff hopes alive.
The season is not technically over,
but it just about feels it now.
They did announce the following players will not play tonight against the bowls,
is basically a must win to keep these hopes alive.
Kyrie Irving, Josh Green,
Tim Hardaway Jr., Moxie Klieba, and Christian Wood.
Who is going to play? It's actually a better question.
Luke Adonchich and Javelle McGee?
Probable.
I love that they're going to win with that group.
Right?
Right?
This Maverick thing is fascinating.
I mean...
Well, I'll just say what I thought.
When I thought the deal was made, my...
My thought was, hey, they weren't going anywhere with their roster,
and they wouldn't go anywhere with Kyrie,
but they'd be more interesting,
and maybe short-term, his impact would be they're better
because you have two of the great players in the league.
The problem is you need an entire team,
and they just don't have one.
They don't have the depth of talent.
I mean, I don't know, did you see that game?
I'm going to say it was, I think it was the Hawks game.
I want to look at the box.
I mean, I just, this is where, like,
if you look at box scores.
Okay, it wasn't the Hawks game.
It was the game before the Hawks that they lost?
Were they both combined?
It wasn't just them.
It was also, it was also Tim Hardaway.
Like they played three statistically, almost perfect.
Here it is.
So they played the Miami Heat.
This is like three games ago.
Okay.
Tim Hardaway was 11 of 15,
six of 10 from three, has 31 points, and seven assists and six rebounds.
Kyrie Irving is 10 of 17
incredibly efficient, right?
He had eight assists, only one turnover,
a plus four, 23 points.
Luca Donchick was 17 of 25.
17 to 25.
8 assists, 10 rebounds,
scored 42 points.
They lost by 7.
They lost by 7.
Because you actually have to have a team
to play basketball.
And you have to play defense to play basketball.
Yeah, they just don't have any, like, balance
to their roster. I mean, I think you look at a team like the Phoenix Suns, they seem to be a bit top-heavy now.
But you have Kevin Durant, who's incredibly versatile, and you have, you know, Chris Paul and what he's able to do, even at his age.
I mean, they have Bionbo off the bench to help them defend the rim. Correct. They have some pieces there.
And the question for them is going to be depth as well. And, you know, in the first playoff series, you stay healthy, you're fine.
Second, third, now it's sudden you start to wear down. And that's where they kind of strengthen numbers.
comes in and I think
the Warriors will be interesting
if when Andrew Wiggins comes back
you move one of the starters to the bench
and you help that bench because the guys developed
you know that's where I like the clippers
I just don't like them without Paul George
what's next?
And as we stay in the NBA
another unfortunate update
about Zion Williamson
it appears that he has all been ruled out
for the remainder of the season
the Pelicans are a play in tournament team
but the playoffs too
So David Griffin, their GM, said that it does not look like he will be in position to play five on five prior to the play in.
It's really hard.
We may never get to that point either.
It's not a situation where all these things are going to align.
He feels where he feels the way that he needs to feel and we're not going to let him get into that next phase.
So it doesn't even look likely that he will be available if they make it through the play in.
This is a great lesson for people who they don't.
understand the draft evaluation process.
They just don't.
And, I mean, I came on
Colin's show and I told him, I said, like, look, if
he gets in shape, he can be
one of the great players in the NBA. But
there's nothing to tell you that he's going to be in shape.
And then since he's been in the NBA, every year
has, you can say, well, it's his build
that says, like, this is a hamstring injury.
Like, everything just keeps breaking down
because he's carrying too much weight. And he's
carried weight for such a long period of time.
I know, it's unfortunate. I mean, I think at the time,
So for everyone who knows, I produced Colin show now.
Prior to working with Colin, I was Doug's producer.
And at the time of this draft, I was your full-time producer.
And you had said, like, for even a variety of reasons, but, like, John Morant might be the better pick.
Now, obviously, in different parts of the season, he appeared to have his own personal...
No one I knew thought John Moran had any sort of off-the-court issues.
None.
But at the time...
And none were Zion either.
Zion was just about his...
his body.
But that's what you had said going into it was like, look, you have the choice between
these two players and John Morant, we don't see any issues and there's no questions about
his help.
Like, yeah, Zion Williamson has all these intangibles.
He's got the big smile.
He's almost like a Paul Bunyan, like the myth, the man, the legend type of thing.
But if he's not healthy, then what does it actually mean?
And it's actually kind of crazy in a way that the Pelicans have been able to say as
relevant as they have in this Western conference.
All because of Anthony Davis trade.
Yeah.
All because of Anthony Davis trade.
Yes, I mean, we told you.
And everybody, my point is, everybody makes deception.
Oh, well, he'll just lose weight.
He's in the NBA.
Best trainers are eat right.
And he'll be a great player.
Like, nope.
Hadn't happen.
Hadn't happen.
And then they gave him a contract extension in the off-season.
Because it's like you have to.
But do you have to?
I was going to say, do you think teams are going to start reconsidering that?
This whole, like, you got to do the extension?
I would.
Like, if you're the Mavericks, for example.
Why do you have to resign Kyrie?
because you traded for him,
why can't you just say like, you know,
it's just a bad trade?
Right.
You know, if we could do it again,
we wouldn't do it.
It was we gave up too much in return.
The NBA seems to be very much stuck in these ways.
The NFL feels like they're willing to move off things a little quicker,
but the NBA feels very much hamstrung by this.
Like, oh, you draft a guy and he makes an all-star team,
and now we've got to give him the rookie max extension,
and like, now you're kind of stuck.
I know, but we're just listening to Joe Banner,
and Joe Banner's saying how they should do more of that, right?
I don't see it.
I think the NFL does it the right way.
I actually do too.
Personally.
But I mean, he did it for 20 years and we don't.
Yeah.
I mean, by the way, Zion Williamson played 61 games one year,
24 in his first year, 29 this year, and didn't play going back to last year.
Yeah.
Just brutal.
He's played 114 games in four seasons in the NBA.
Brutal.
Now, average 26 points a game.
Yeah.
I mean.
And that was.
That was part of what was going to be so fascinating about Zion is he did it so efficiently
in such a different way than what we see, but we never got to see it really in, like, big games.
And to see if, like, could he actually play in the postseason?
Well, he'll play in the post season.
As small ball five, he'd be incredible.
You know, I know what you're talking about.
Can he help him win?
I mean, the whole thing will really hit if he can ever get healthy.
Yeah.
And then at some point you go like, man, we're four years in.
And he's a can't get right.
Yeah.
because you can't get ready.
Tough.
All right.
And we'll finish up with this.
We'll turn our attention to the NFL.
We continue to wait on what I think is the inevitable trade of Aaron Rogers to the Jets.
But hasn't quite happened as we have the standoff between the Green Bay front office and the New York Jets front office carries on.
But it looks like Aaron Rogers, after he made his proclamation about intending to play for the Jets this upcoming season, is moving forward with that.
As on social media, Alan Lazard, his form.
former teammate in Green Bay, now with the New York Jets, posted pictures of them working out together this offseason, which comes in maybe somewhat of response to Jordan Love and some social media posts, him getting some work in with Christian Watson and Romeo Dobbs.
But yeah, apparently Alan Lazard and Aaron Rogers moving forward with getting some reps and preparing for that, I guess, training camp.
It's the weirdest thing ever.
had you just done that last year
maybe you would have had a better year last year
just working with your guys
it is quite odd how it's like
I want to do me and do my time
and now that he's not even officially a part of the team
he likes
Aaron Rogers
likes to do the things that he wants to do
the way in which he wants to do it
when he wants to do it
correct under no other circumstances
correct
Correct.
And that's right, music with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

I get to like this point of stubble and I'm good.
A little more gets itchy.
I'm just not yet.
You've gone Goatee before.
Gone goatee before.
Even on a spoof I've done the mustache thing before.
Not from November.
But not full beard.
National Beer Day.
National Beer Day.
So here's what I compiled.
The list of the five best ways to enjoy nature's goodness.
Number five.
Gilling, right?
You're sitting out there.
Now remember, grilling is not barbecuing.
Barbecuing is barbecuing.
Grilling is cooking on a grill.
You can barbecue on a grill, but just because you're using a grill does not mean you're
barbecuing.
All right, that may be a different best for last second.
But for this segment, when you're out there this weekend, if it's hot, if it's cold, it doesn't really matter.
What does matter is that you have something cold and fizzy and refreshing right next to you.
It just makes you feel like a guy, right?
You're just like, yep, I'm grilling some carcass and some sort of meat or something or other.
I hope and make sure I don't cook it too much through, but I don't want it to, you bite in and feel like it's still mooing somewhere in the middle, depending upon who's eating it.
You know, salt is the spice, and you can never go short on that spice.
But what's most important is you have a cold beer, right?
Beer, grilling, just kind of works.
Number four.
Now, obviously, you can do this while you're grilling, but you don't have to.
When you're watching a sport.
I mean, obviously, you'd say football, but, like, watching baseball works.
Watching golf works.
Golf does feel like a bit of a cocktail sport, more than a beer sport.
But watching most sports.
I mean, remember when we were kids,
Mel Allen and baseball and Valentine, right?
Valentine was a beer.
So beer goes with watching sports.
I don't think anybody would argue that.
Number three.
Hot summer day near any sort of body of water.
Right.
Ocean guy doesn't like lake guy.
Lake guy doesn't like ocean guy.
Does it really matter?
Is it hot?
Are other people who are attractive, scantly clad?
And do you have a cold beer?
Who's going to argue with that?
Great way to experience a cold one.
Number two.
I never loved beer, right?
I had my first sip of a beer, probably like 13 years old and thought it was gross.
In high school, used to fake it.
Dudes would get like old English and you like take a sip, spit it out,
walk around a party, slowly emptying it out, pretend like you were holding a beer.
Never liked it.
Serious, I mean, but who likes, nobody sits there and goes,
And you know I can really use on a hot day, old English.
But after my junior year at Oklahoma State, I stayed for a summer session,
and I had a job doing demo, demo for a guy who's rehabbing houses.
Here's the thing about demo in Oklahoma.
It's cool because you just take a hammer and you just crack the crap out of everything.
The downside is air conditioning isn't on when you're doing demo, right?
See you're hot, you're sweaty, you're wearing jeans, boots, right?
You're having kind of fun.
And I had never experienced it.
Five o'clock, they would go out.
get a case and you walk outside oh my god how do i why i love beer now i i it's like the last
enough space good call there's sam there there there's only one thing greater than having a beer
after a long day of manual labor number one you know what the greatest way to experience beer is a lot
of you heard dads are going to experience this in the next couple of months if you're a kid you're
waiting for this experience.
You come home from college your first year,
and you go into the fridge, and the old man's watching the master's or watching NBA
hoop on TV.
Now, if you're really an involved gentleman, you say, hey, dad, you want one.
Because even though you're probably 19, 18, 19 years old, right?
And you're not really of age, and I'm not sitting here telling you to drink before
you're of age, but like, we're all realistic here.
You get home from college, and the first active.
of a college man is, I'm going to grab a beer and drink him with my dad, and I'm not going to ask,
is it okay? Because I'm a college man now. It's expected. Have not gotten to that point.
My little guy is only 14, but when he's 19, it's the expectation. That's reasonable.
Right? Having your first beer with your kid, or when you're the kid, having the beer with your dad,
and you didn't actually have to ask if it was okay
was the good stuff
that's the best for last
music your first time having a beer was where
it was with my older brother
at one of his friend's house
and I believe it was a party
and it was out of a keg
and I was probably about same age as you
like 13 14 years old
and yeah definitely it was not like good by any
I was actually not only 13 when I tried beer
but I was 13 when my brother
brother's best friend in high school has got Tommy Hetzel.
Shout out to Tommy.
Tom.
Tommy got in a fight actually with Aaron Boone, manager.
Oh, wow.
My brother got to fight with Aaron Boone, but Tommy came in.
He was like the enforcer.
So Tommy was actually suspended for the next game for protecting my brother
was the high school team's best player, right?
Villa Park was Aaron Boone's high school.
Those guys were the rich weenies, right?
My brother went to El Medina High School.
And Tommy protected him.
So I was the ball boy.
They called me Gopher.
And I was either 12 or 13 years old.
and it was a rainy night, and Tommy's like, I'll take you to the game because I didn't have to go to the JV game, whatever.
I had something else going on.
And he didn't either because he was suspended.
And I went to his house and he's like, you want to be a man today?
I was like, yes!
Take this shot.
I was like, oh my God, that was the worst thing I've ever drank in my life.
Thank you, Mr. Hetzel.
Do you want to be a man?
You want to be a man today?
That's something out of a TV show.
I can't believe people actually use those kind of work.
It worked.
You want me a man today.
I was like looking no chest hair, no body hair.
Yes.
Yes.
Sure.
What do I have to do?
Drink that.
Okay.
Okay.
All right.
We didn't solve many of the world's problems.
We're still waiting to see if a little dude can be, once again, the number one
overall pick in the draft.
Now that works out.
Lamar is still a product of the Ravens, even though it feels like that thing's over.
And the NBA playoffs are upon us, and wouldn't you know,
that Kevin Durant, who is going to sit, I think, tonight, right? So when he has played for the
sons, they haven't lost a game, including last night. Makes for what should be good fodder
for the C-man when he returns, right? He'll get you ready for the NFL draft and the NBA playoffs.
As for me, check out the all-ball podcast, which you can download or the Doug Gottlieb show,
which follows the show on Fox Sports. I'm Doug Gottlieb. This is Fox Sports Radio.
Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite, unhumor me with Robert
Smigel and Friends, me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make
you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an
a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some
retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert
Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
