It said the Jets need to go on the offensive today. Aaron Rogers should tell the Packers that if he's not traded before the start of training camp, he'll be showing up like Brett Farve did. He's just going to show up.

and that and they'll just stay there until he's traded that he fully expects to be in camp and it would force them to make a move. Well, it sounds great. The problem, of course, is Aaron wants the summers off and it's probably not going to be the worst thing in the world if he gets guaranteed money and doesn't have to go to camp.

Again, he's not Burrow. He's not ascending. He's not Mahalms. He's not Josh Allen. He's not Trevor Lawrence. He's an old fat rich guy. I mean, he's got money. He wants summers off.

He's doing speaking engagements. He's playing golf. So the urgency play, I don't, you know, Aaron moved about five years ago into the R-E-L-A-X kind of mindset, which is his right. But he's no longer an ascending young guy hungry for the big contract. And so, although I think this is a really good idea if the jet said, Aaron, go on the offensive, he wants to have the summers off. He's got no urgency.

at all. I always say this. Indifference is the killer. What are you going to do with somebody that's indifferent? You're a sales manager. You're trying to motivate a salesperson. Okay, I'll pay you more if you do this, this, this, but their husband or wife makes a lot of money and they're like, okay, I make enough money. There's nothing you can do with indifference. And Aaron at this point, offseason, I was going to hang out with friends in golf. You're right. There's nothing you can do with it. So great idea. I don't think it would work. Jeff Howes, an NFL insider for the athletic, covered the Patriots for years. So I theorize that if you do something poorly as a business, sometimes you just have to go buy it.

And the Patriots do special teams well, defense well, culture, toughness. They don't do offensive skill well. Last 10 receivers they've drafted, nobody's a star. You could argue nobody's a two. Go buy dynamic. Lamar Jackson reportedly is over the Ravens. They went and got Cam. Lamar's better than Cam.

It's not close at this point. Would they consider it in your opinion? No, I don't think they're going to, and I was pretty much told as much. Now, with the caveat that three years ago, I was also told they were not going to go get Cam Newton, and then Cam Newton slashed his price by a considerable percentage. Difference in the stage of their career that Cam Newton was in in 2020,

and Lamar Jackson is in now. I don't anticipate Lamar to slash his price to the point where the Patriots would all of a sudden get in on this thing. So I see what you're saying about, all right, if you can't draft something well or if you need something, absolutely go by it. But that hasn't been the case of receiver either. I mean, they've whiffed on basically every receiver they've tried to take since 2009 with Julian Edelman. But even he was about a four-year project. So this is going on a decade plus. You look at 2019 when they got McKeel Harry, they took him over Devo Samuel, A.J. Brown.

D.K. Metcalf, there was a chance last offseason when they could have gone out and bought A.J. Brown, and they didn't do it. So there have been opportunities to go after those high-priced guys, whether it's in free agency or a trade, and they haven't done that yet. And I don't anticipate they're going to change their philosophy with Lamar Jackson. Pro football talks says put pressure. Jets. Aaron, put pressure on the Packers. What do you think? What are your sources tell you, Jeff? Jeff, how joining us? What's holding it up? everybody from the team side is so scared to basically piss off somebody else involved in these negotiations that you're just not hearing a lot of details so you see Aaron Rogers come out and finally tell his side of it on the McAfee show and I thought that was enough to put pressure on everybody to kind of come together I would be shocked if this thing isn't done by draft time and I don't know what offers on the table I don't know what the Packers are looking for what it's going to take for these two sides to kind of

figure this thing out. For the time being, I mean, really, until the offseason workout program starts in the third-ish week of April, there's not a whole lot of urgency for, I mean, each side, the Jets and the Packers can wait for the other ones to blink to kind of get this thing done. It's going to get done. Aaron Rogers has basically put all his cards on the table. It has to get done. It's just, I have no idea where the middle ground is because nobody wants to talk. Yeah. Hey, so 11 different people, the owner is why, if the GM, the coach, going to see C.J. Stroud's Pro Day for the Panthers. Now, I would theorize, Jeff, what they're doing is they're letting it known. We're bringing the organization, put a little pressure on C.J.

Let's see how he performs at Pro Day with a little pressure. There's a, the betting market has C.J. Stroud number one, you know, when it comes to the betting market, they are usually pretty good on this. What are you hearing? What is your takeaway? Well, I still think the top three guys, and maybe Anthony Richardson are still in place. I mean, everybody loves Bryce Young, but everybody's kind of scared of the size and what's his career longevity going to be. C.J. Stroud gives you everything that you want. He's smooth. He's a great pocket passer. He's got tremendous upside physically all put together. Will Levis, I think, is still possibly in play. I mean, I know that there is some angst over his performance last year compared to a year before, but you look at the amount of people that he lost around him in terms of skill position, in terms of losing offensive coordinator William Cohen for a year when he went back. to the Rams. You saw his play kind of tail off, but I'm telling you that the people in the NFL

still love Will Levis. So I think those three guys are still in play. Anthony Richardson's more of a wild card. But this next week is going to be big because you got all these guys pro days on display. Yep. So there's, listen, I was told a month ago from a really good source that the Rams, McVeigh is like, okay, I'll come back, but we're spending money on offense. And so Bobby Wagner gone, Floyd, gone, Jalen, gone. They want draft capital, and they're going to spend money on offense. He's tired of watching his, you know, peers, Kyle Shanahan, Zach Taylor have all these weapons. And Andy Reid, he's like, hey, I need weapons. If I'm going to lose, I'm going to go down with offense. There's been some reports out there that they'd like to

redo the Stafford deal, and there's a little friction on that that they can't rebuild certain things. They got dead cap money unless they can rework the Stafford deal. What is your takeaway on McVeigh, the Rams, Stafford. You know, they got a lot of picks, no first pick, but I think they have 10 or 11 overall. Where are they with Stafford McVeigh right now, in your opinion? Well, this, I don't think McVeigh would have come back to this situation if he wasn't in the understanding frame of mind that this is going to be a multi-year rebuild, because everything crashed down a whole lot faster last year than anybody ever could have anticipated

to doing. Stafford has the elbow issues that are going to linger. I would assume for the rest of his career, at least that's to my understanding. Now, it's not something that I don't think he can play through or anything along those lines. But you look at the moves that they've made. They're shedding cap. They're shedding salary. They're trying to get some of that capital back in the draft to rebuild this thing organically

because the model that they had, when you go all in the way that the ramps did and you get the Super Bowl, it was worth it. But when it all of a sudden crumbles, I mean, it crashes a whole lot faster than you can be able to rebuild. it back. So this is going to be a long commitment. And I don't, I mean, McVeigh is a smart guy. And he knows how to stay present. He knows what he wants in terms of his plan. When

he was thinking about his future after last season, going into this off-season and taking his time, he wasn't looking at this saying, oh, you know what? All of a sudden, I have a magic wand, and this thing is going to get turned around real quickly. I mean, you have to be practical looking at this roster in the way that they went after it for a few

years. And understand that you have to rebuild the offensive line. You have to take away these high-priced guys and replenish them with younger, better, or not necessarily better, but younger players who are cheaper and can develop in your system, I would be stunned if all of a sudden they got back into a playoff caliber team. And I think that they have to be practical about that. By the way, D'Andre Hopkins is one of those guys out there for the taking. He's one of the great catch radius guys. You know, he's just very productive, top five guy to me. You're inkling on where he leans or where he goes.

it's it's a hard market to read because a lot of people i mean everybody likes the player of course i mean you'd be foolish not to just how outstanding he is on sundays every week after week after week but i can't get a feel for the market you know everybody i'm asking hey what's what are you hearing on the price point it's like oh well it's still a little too high and that high point that everybody with these teams is speaking of is the salary the trade you got to wonder you know what are you getting off the field? Is he going to fit with your locker room? So there's a lot here. There are people who like the player, like I was saying, but I can't get a feel for how many teams really want to go all in for him. And I think that that's why there were the early calls,

and you're not seeing anything come to fruition right now. I would see the Browns as a team that still clearly needs a receiver. And I think that they're probably interested to an extent, but this is going to be a slow playing market, at least from what I've heard over the last few days. Yeah, I don't think New England's a bad spot. Again, they called, I don't, yeah, I don't think, they called early. I don't think anything is close. And I think something substantial would have to change for them to pull the trigger on that kind of deal. Insider of the Athletic, subscribe.

A higher smart guy. they've got a bunch of B players. They went and got a B running back and a B corner and a B safety and all this stuff. And it is interesting when you see a highly productive player at a critical position like DeAndre Hopkins. Tomorrow he would make the Patriots with Mack Jones a better team tomorrow. You can't get value out of everything. Like there's certain things in life. I'm not seeking value.

Right. Like I want there's, you know, I'm not going to buy certain things at the grocery store. I know I'm going to overpay for this and this because I like it and I need it and I want it. The Patriots sometimes feel suffocated by getting value. You kind of get what you pay for in this league. You kind of get, I mean, like you got to pay for a good left tackle. Everybody this week is, oh, the Texans overpaid. They're going to have Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud.

They need a great left tackle. You're not going to get value for great edge rushers. You just got to go pay for them. You get value at running back. Kansas City gets a guy in the seventh round. Or you get a corner in the fifth round like the Seahawks. You'll get great value for three years. You're not going to get great value.

You've got to pay Max Crosby. You're not going to get value for a left tackle. You've got to pay Trent Williams. I think sometimes the Patriots, they're just paralyzed by getting value. That's why they don't have a great edge rusher, a great left tackle, a great wide receiver. You got to pay for it. And they can't draft offense. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd.

This is the herd line news. I get value on paper towels. I go cheap on paper towels. Okay, so let me ask you, you're the Patriots. They have a first, a second, a third from Carolina. so it's picked 76, not terrible. Three-fourths. What would you give up for D'Andre Hopkins?

Two-fourths. Arizona said, give me the second. Probably not, but I'd consider a third. There's nobody in the third round as good as D'Andre Hopkins. Now, he's expensive. But again, you're Belichick, you're 70. You have a lot of elements, but you don't have a dynamic one. Juju Smith-Schuster is a two on Kansas City.

If everybody's healthy, he's a three. Are we sure Hopkins is still a one? he's the best two in the league if he's not a one. I don't know. It's like when you can't do something well as a company, go buy it. You see this all the time. We have a gigantic company and they don't do something well, so they just go buy it. That's what Facebook bought Instagram or, hey, we don't do this well.

We don't want to commit to building this. Edelman took us four years. We want to compete now. Let's just go buy this because we've missed on multiple draft picks at that position. Let's just go buy it. Sometimes you have to overpay for. nice stuff. You're not going to get a discount, it feels like to me, on airfare. If you want to go somewhere, you're going to have to overspend. But are you going to get a great, you can save money

on your hotel room? You can save money on meals and coupons. You want to pay for a nice airline and a good seat. You got to pay for it. All right, let's get started with CJ Gardner Johnson, signing with the Lions and Free Agency. Now, when he was in Philly, he wanted a long-term deal. Apparently, they had an offer on the table. He didn't like it. And the Eagles pulled it. So now he's signs a deal with Detroit. Gardner then posted a tweet attacking Philly fans, then deleted it. He continued to stir the pot at his introductory press conference, Colin. Like this, like it. This team is talent. This team, we could win a division, possibly win a division. Everybody should feel that way. But when I look at a team coming from where I came from,

all the teams I played on, want multiple divisions, been to play out games, been to the Super Bowl, This team has what it takes to be a divisional. You know what I'm saying? Get there. Win the division. Get to the playoffs. They're not as talented as Philly, but they do have talent. They've drafted very well.

And they went to fix their corners. I think they're top five roster in the NFC. Yeah. For sure. Yeah. Not Philly, not San Francisco, but argue with anybody else. Can Goff get it done? And if not, does the defense now have enough?

Remember, they did beat Aaron Rogers twice last year? No, they're golf's fine. He's now a top three or four quarterback in the NFC. That's an off-season haul right there. Well, it's not a haul. What do you mean? The secondary was shredded last year, towards, I think 31st in the league in many categories.

A bunch of very good B players. I like all of them. I like Cameron Sutton. I like Gardner Johnson. I like David Montgomery. These are very good players. By the way, in free agency, I like what the Texans and Lions have done.

They've paid for B&B plus players. Well, you could also argue they've got a lot of money to spend. And the Texas is just spending like drunken sailors. Yeah, but they bought, they didn't go out and spend foolishly. They paid for a left tackle because there's none on the market that are on discount. There's something in your life you pay a lot of money for. I don't know what it is, but there's something in your life. I'm a bit of a penny pincher.

So I'm not spending a lot. There's something you spend money on. Probably workout club or vacations. No. You don't spend for vacation. We do spend for that. I got a couple coming up. All right.

And you didn't go cheap on those. No. You don't go cheap. Keep on vacations or left tackles. You got to pay for stuff. Good stuff comes at a premium, especially when it's a crucial position. That's fair.

Next up, now you will love this story. So, Juju Smith-Schuster signed that three-year deal with the Patriots. You have kind of been ragging on the deal. A bit of an overpay. Kansas City had it. So Juju Smith-Schuster has played for Mike Tommon and Andy Reid. Here is Juju explaining why he wanted to join the Patriots, and I'll give you the backstory after.

To be honest, it was Billichick, man. The guy, you know, just the one in the need and, you know, the position that I can feel there, you know, really, really brought my, caught my attention. And I felt that like that was the most thing, you know, like feeling once in a place where, you know, I played against, you know, a head coach where, you know, I have a lot of respect for. And I just think that that goes a long way. So, Juju, the first time he faced the Patriots, just torched them when he was in Pittsburgh.

Monster game. So then they came back and Belichick schemed up to kind of contain him and the Steelers still won the game. Apparently after that game and a bunch of blogs have written about this, Belichick went up to Juju and said something on the field along the lines of like you're the best, one of the best 22-year-old receivers I've ever seen. So Juju, despite the loss,

was all giddy after the game and like telling Antonio Brown and everybody, hey, Bill Belichick said nice stuff about me. I almost wonder, Belichick, You just said it. When you can't find something, you go out and overpay for it. Belichick, you had the list earlier of how poorly they've drafted receivers. Remember, Belichick faced Cam Newton, I think twice.

Cam was great against Belichick. He couldn't affect because Belichick off script, Sabin and Belichick struggle with off-script quarterbacks. Mahomes has had great success. And what do you do? He went out and got Cam. So, I mean, there's something to be said if you can't, you know, Nick Sabin thought Johnny Mansell was going to be unbelievable because he faced him twice in college and they

was really good against him. So, you know, I understand that. If you face something and it's very successful, you go buy it. So you get, you add juju, if you're able to go out and get, find a deal for DeAndre Hopkins. Mac Jones has new offensive coordinator, DeAndre Hopkins, Juju, Schuster, Hunter Henry back. That's not a bad, not a bad group of weapons there for New England and Mac Jones. Yeah. The key is if Aaron Rogers becomes a jet, I got Tua and that coach, Aaron Rogers, Josh Allen, and Mack Jones without weapons. That's a fourth place finish. I don't care how good your defense is.

What was the final score of the Super Bowl? It was like 36, 34? You need offense, basically. Nobody could stop anybody. It's like the days of Nick Saban acknowledged that years ago, even in college, I can't stop the best offenses. We've got to pivot and be an offensive program. Nick Sabin did.

Final story, Lakers, down to the final 10 games of the regular season. LeBron out again. That's 12 straight games. It's got that right foot tendon injury. They're 11th in the West. Boy, the thunder have just surged past the Lakers. Now, they got young guys. Lakers are optimistic LeBron can return for the end of the season. But yesterday, Chris Haynes, a reporter from Yahoo, explained why that might be pushing it. Obviously, the goal is for LeBron to return at some point before the season concludes. but what I'm hearing it, that still might be a push. The Lakers had to do everything that they could to try to win as many games as possible

to give LeBron James as much time to recover as possible. So that means that even when he does come back, it might not be fully healthy, but you're just trying to buy him some time. Can LeBron come back the final two games of the regular season? I think definitely that's a possibility, but it's still premature as a right. now. What another disappointing Lakers season. Nine of the last 10. Totally disappointing. It's a pickum. Sons without Aiton without Durant. It'll be D. Book against D. Angela Rossol.

The games where? Here it's at crypto.com. All right. I take the Lakers. I can't hate that pick. I don't even know who the Sun's backup center is. The team without KD. and Aiton. Not great. Now who you got in Warriors' Maps? What's the line? And now it's come down. It was Warriors earlier were slight favorites. It's now a pickup. Warriors. Whose plan?

Is Luca playing? Sounds like no Luca, but Kyrie is going to try to give it a go. We don't know for sure. Again, this is a thing. It's like Paul George hurt last night. What's up with Kyrie's foot? Lucas thigh. LeBron.

I'll take the Warriors. The Warriors didn't play last night, but they did. They did not. They got to win two nights ago in Houston. All right. So they've had a good rest. I'll take the Warriors tonight close. There you go.

And in fact, he's a better playoff player than a regular season player. His shooting percentage, like Steph Curry, goes down

slightly in the playoffs because everybody's equally rested. You play the same team six, seven times, and you have better coaching and better defense. Thank you. All right. case dismissed. So we're going to play, we're in the tournaments right now. We taught there's eight great tournaments we believe that America is involved with. The Olympics, the World Cup, March Madness, the NFL playoffs, NBA playoffs, baseball playoffs. There's eight great tournaments. So we thought we would have a bracket, the elite eight tournaments. Ready to go? Okay, let's go. So the first NFL against the Olympics. Now, I used to be a much bigger fan of the Olympics 20 years ago when it was the

only time as a sports fan that sports was on for three straight weeks every single night. But now all sports is on constantly so it doesn't feel is special and I just don't care about a lot of Olympic sports. I like skiing. I can watch the downhill. Most they don't care about. So NFL playoffs wins there. No doubt.

Yes, correct. College football playoff and NBA playoffs, college football playoffs very repetitive. It's the same three. I got Bama, Ohio State, Michigan, or Georgia, or Clems. It's too repetitive for me. Now, I think that's going to change going forward. I think USC is going to start figuring out a way to get in those. But I would take NBA playoffs because I get more personalities, more teams, more unpredictability.

More teams. I mean, college football playoff is three games. We need way more than that. They got to expanded. Well, now it is being expanded to 12 teams in 2024. So now the Masters and March Madness, that's not even close. First of all, betting. I don't bet golf.

So from that standpoint, and also the Masters, they've been great years of the Masters, like Tiger Woods winning the Masters. Yeah, it's slam dunk. Come on. No break. Baseball playoffs in the FIFA World Cup. Now, I'm going to go, I like the World Cup.

Of course. The World Cup is also the world's best international soccer stars. The baseball playoffs. World Cup, especially once you get out of the group stage, is sudden death. That's also a bonus to me. The only thing, my only gripe is, like, what's the number one seed here? Is it NFL playoffs? Because I would make World Cup, which is only every four years.

This was an unseated tournament. Yeah, it's tough. World Cup has to be the number one seat. It's the best tournament, bar none in sports. It's only every four years. Right. And nothing against the baseball playoffs, but we do know that, like, eight teams or AAA teams, We kind of know who's going in.

There's not a lot of upsets. I can tell you right now, kind of who's going to be in the baseball playoffs to a large degree. Okay, now it's NFL against the NBA, and I just, I like football. I like pro football, more than pro basketball, although I will say the other advantage for the NFL playoffs is it's sudden death. One big game, winner take all is always going to beat a long series. Even in the greatest finals, remember the Warriors played the cat, And it was game seven, LeBron with a block, and Kyrie with the shot.

Remember that? Yes. There were five blowouts in that final. There were five bad games. And that was like, oh, what if I, there were five awful, I mean, just blowouts. Okay, so I'm going to go. Now, the tournament or FIFA, now this is, I get amateur or professional. So I would take the World Cup.

Yeah. Would you too? I would. I love the NCAA tournament. I would go. More than anybody I've ever met. I mean, you know some guys who love the tournament. But not like, no, nobody in my profession loves the tournament more than you.

So I'll tell you a story. When I worked at a magazine and a newspaper back in the day, I would fake sick early in the week before the tournament started. So that Wednesday, I'd be like, yo, I don't think I'd come in tomorrow. And I would pretend to be sick so Thursday and Friday I could watch the tournament from home, just sitting around, eating unhealthy food. I think I was single at the time, so drinking and watching the tournament all day gambling. It was just epic. I love doing that so much. Okay, now it's the NFL playoffs against the World Cup.

And I would say, due to the scarcity, I would take the NFL playoffs. What? Scarcity? Well, I don't get the World Cup every year. I don't want to sit around and wait every four years for something. Can they bump it up to every two? It's a tough one. Tell me where I'm wrong. I just, I think the World Cup is probably.

World Cup's my favorite. I mean, everything stops for me for four years. Now, for a month, everything stops every year for the NFL playoffs. Let me ask you this. I said this years ago when I was at ESPN, and people just couldn't believe it. If you get five sporting events, just like not multiple games, you get a game and you get five. And I said I would take a great NFL playoff game, number one. I would take a great NBA finals game number two.

I would take a great World Cup game number three. And people just could not. They were like, and I love college football, but at the time, we weren't getting a lot of great. I think college football would probably be four. But when I said it, people were, they could not believe that I like soccer. And oh, that's because ESPN televised everybody has soccer now. A great World Cup game. How about this year's final?

Argentina, France was arguably the greatest soccer game of all time. It was unbelievable. You could not. It was, I have no tie to either. I literally, my shoulders hurt. For two and a half hours, you were tense. So let me just tell you something about the NFL playoffs. My wife's birthday is smack dab in the middle of the NFL playoffs.

And she wants to let, oh, let's do stuff. Let's go skiing. And maybe I'm a bad husband, but I say, I can't do it. I got the NFL playoffs. My son's birthday, smack dab of the NCAA tournament. We need to, we push his celebration up before the tournament starts because I'm sorry son I love you but I can't spend

like six hours at your birthday in the middle of an NCAA tournament Saturday. Am I a bad guy for this? No, I've made there are certain times. I don't watch sports usually on Friday and gets Friday always. I don't care what time of the year it is. So I've missed some Friday games.

Plus I don't have to talk about a Friday game on Monday usually. So Friday is always and day. Yeah, I mean I've said up before. Love your life like your sports. I absolutely there are times I have to put my job ahead of it's very rare but like it's, by the way, my wife knows Sundays in the fall. I sit down with a notepad. Yeah. I turn on three TVs, fubel on my phone and I write notes for it's it, you know, by the end of the day I'm exhausted.

There are usually you'll get a good window. But occasionally on Sunday you'll get like a bad one o'clock window and you're like, boy, I have committed to eight hours of this. That's why you get that's factor in the fantasy and the gambling and it makes it all worthwhile. All right. Paul George suffered a right knee sprain, re-evaluate him in two to three weeks. That means when the playoffs start... So he's done for the regular season. They'll make the playoffs probably, but they'll... Re-evaluate it doesn't mean he's back.

God, the West is. The West right now is about who's not playing. Katie, LeBron, Luca, now Paul George. Kyrie's hurt. Kate, yeah, Kyrie's hurt. John Moran's not back yet. John, John Morant, and no ID in the West. It's the herd. Another podcast from some SNL
