You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. One of the best guys out there, Will Blackman, Wines-Somalié, husband, father, Bon Vivant. He just makes things happen. 12 years in the league. So you were a fourth round pick by the Packers out of Boston College. Why you say it's so aggressive?

What's wrong with fourth-round picks? Nothing. But Brock Purdy is seventh round, and people are dumping on him. And I'm always like Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 35,000 yards in the seventh round. Tony Romo, Kurt Warner, undrafted. Do you have a soft spot? I mean, you knew when you went to the Packers.

Right. You instantly knew, I'm better than that dude. I'm better than that dude. I watched Brock Purdy and George Kittle was a fifth round pick. Joanne Jennings for them with a seven round pick. Right. Elijah Mitchell, running back. He was a six-round pick.

I think we get caught up sometimes. There's about 15 guys will in the first round every year, like bosses, chase you. Right. Those dudes look different. After that, I think it's a lot of attitude. It's a lot of coachability. That's my take. Brock Purdy's coachable. Right. After the first round, this is where your front office gets, they have to work.

This is where they earn their money. Right. When you watch Brock Purdy, you see an NFL starter? I see one right now. I mean, I see, here's the thing. I give a lot of credit to Kyle Shanehan because I feel like he does an incredible job of preparing his team. Preparing his team for like adverse situations. So this team, all year.

year has dealt with injuries left and right. They're on the third quarterback. That's what I'm saying, especially at that position. And they haven't moved. So the team knows like, hey, if somebody goes down, then our playmakers, they really need to step up. And I feel like the leaders of that team, like, they understand that. So I give, I, yes, Purdy's playing, he's playing good football right now, but I give

a lot of credit to Shanahan just for having him prepared. That's a big deal. Because that's a, especially the a position. It's under-coached and underdeveloped in this league. So you played for four different teams. Did you absolutely believe there were staffs that were just better at prep that you always felt buttoned up game time? I did. Yep. I did. Was Green Bay one of them? Green Bay? Green Bay was one of them. But Green Bay, too, we had a lot of, we had a lot of veterans on those teams in the early 2000s. Adults. Adults. Yeah. So a lot of preparation came from from them. Also, when I was in New York, Same thing. We had a lot of adults on that. Like the leadership was so good where, yes, the coaching, like they put out the game plan, but also the players took a lot of ownership. And then you start to feel like the accountability like, man, I need to step up my preparation. So I don't mess up what they got going on. Like I don't like I need to make sure I'm in the right spot because I don't want to mess up what Charles Woodson is doing. You know, he's playing so well. Right. And then in retrospect, when I can earn the trust of everyone else, then it's just going to be.

to elevate my play. So it goes back to like, hey, if everyone's doing their job, if everyone's playing well, if everyone's doing awesome, then we're going to have great success. And that's everyone. Even if you're a gunner running down on punt, like, yes, let me tackle that guy to get good field positions because it's going to help our team. So, you know, I got into this discussion yesterday about Aaron Rogers. So he had a comment on YouTube where he said the reason he took psychedelics is because he had a fear of death because of why two. He was a teenager, like 16, during Y2K. And we thought the world was going to come to an end.

And he said, he was like, I'm never going to get some of my great things I want to get done accomplished. And he freaked out. He thought Y2K was going to end the world. I remember it. I didn't think that he did. So that's fine. Some people freaked out about it. I wasn't one of those people, but he was.

Pardon to look is 1999. Yeah. So he said he likes the psychedelics because instead of just dying, which he has a fear of, it's sort of a passage to a new place. And I said, whether that's true or not, I said, most great quarterbacks, and you're an accountant, too. So if I look at your brain type, you're a structural guy. To be a wine sommelier is intelligent, it's structural, it's memorization, it's compartmentalization. I wore my pins for you today, by the way. Okay.

But you're a Boston college. Okay. Let me get to my point. Shut up, Will. All right, go ahead. So your brain type, I know what it is. It's more accountant. And most quarterbacks are accountant.

The way you do wine sommelier, your Boston. college. You're a thinker. You got your podcast. You are a, you're an accountant. You could have been a quarterback. You think like a quarterback. Wide receivers are mostly, you know, they're artists. They're creators. Right. Like basketball guys in the NBA. A lot of guys are, Magic Johnson was a creator. Aaron to me is the rare artist playing quarterback. I mean, Brady's boring. Russell Wilson's boring. Andrew Luck's boring. Peyton Manning. And I think sometimes I, Aaron almost has a wide receiver or an artist's interpretation of life and mind, but we jam him into the quarterback position, and he drives me nuts sometimes. Greg Kosell once said he's a jazz musician playing

quarterback. I like that analogy better. Instead of artist account, he's a jazz music. You played with him. Yeah, yeah. Did you think he, well, did you note it because you played with Eli and Farb? Did you think with Aaron, he's just a different cat? Did you spot it early? I did not spot it early. No, I didn't. I mean, he, because he was, when he was young, he was one of the, just one of the, one of the, one of the guys. One of the dudes. Yeah, one of the boys. And he's, I posted a picture the other day of him when he used to photo bomb our captain photos. Like, he used to hold a cup behind his ear and just hide behind everybody, because that was him. He was silly. He was goofy. And, um, yeah, no, I didn't, I didn't see that early at all.

You like watching him? Do you like him? I, I, I think he's incredible. I love, that's my guy. So I always support him. But yeah, you can see that in certain places. players, we're like, he's a little different, you know, he's a little, like Charles Woodson was kind of like that. Was he? Because he was, when he first came to Green Bay, he was, he was to himself a lot. He, he would make a game plan, like within the game plan. He would study film at, like, odd hours of the night. Sometimes he never practiced, and you're like, well, how does this do you, like, still performing? It was crazy, you know? He had his own, like, workout schedule. He didn't work up with the team sometimes. But he was, like,

a great teammate and a great leader. Isn't that great? I never heard that story. That's what I mean. He was a different dude. Now, it changed a little bit when Dom Capers came because that whole defense was designed for him. It's kind of what Rod Woodson was to the Steelers in the 90s. That defense was for Charles Woodson at that time.

So you can spot it in some guys a little early, but him, no. You've had McCarthy, you had McVeigh. You've had Tom Coughlin. You've really run the gamut, dude. I'm telling you, man. Listen, I would have want to tell people this okay like i know like what guys who were journeymen and who didn't and

you weren't starters who didn't have a lot of a lot of stats you know because right now on social media as you say something someone will post your stats like oh you weren't good it's it's the journeyman with the best stories we are we are the apostles we tell the story of the messiah because we see we saw what was going on so all those experiences have been great yeah like that's those are three completely different kind of coaches Mike McCarthy's interesting. He took all the crap when Green Bay went sideways. And now today, he's got Dallas the last couple of years rolling.

What did you like about Mike McCarthy? A lot of people in Dallas don't trust him in big spots. I don't know if I do it with the clock, big spot. What did you like about him, though? You had Cofflin. You had McVeigh. Are there things, because I look at McVeigh and I just think sharp and detailed and Cofflin.

McVeigh was another one. Like, I will come back to facility and watch film, like, 10 o'clock. Just, you know. At night? Yeah, I will come back and watch between 9 and 10, and he's still there. He is, like, he's so obsessed. That's why when the reports of him, like, he might shut it down soon, I think that's why. I think he just wants to be home because he is, like, all football.

He is all football. So that was, that's his obsession. That's his thing. But McCarthy, what I did like about him is that I think when he, his first year as a head coach in Green Bay, we had a lot of veterans. So I think him learning to understand, like understand Farr, understand Charles, understand Nick Barnett. Yeah, how to understand those things. Because there was a lot of, a lot of headbutting in the beginning with him and those guys.

It was. So I think eventually he learned just how to understand his players in terms of, like he didn't come in, he wasn't, he didn't impose his ego on us. It wasn't like, this is my way or the highway. way. It wasn't like that. Because first of all, I'll tell you that, that's the first way to lose a locker room when you come in with your ego. I can play for any kind of coach. And you mentioned the whole list of coaches that I played for. But at the end of the day, if your interest, your best interest is in for us to do well and succeed, then you're going to be okay. You know, Mike McGrathie's

a winning coach for a reason, you know, because he understands that part. Sure, we can question certain situational things. But that's the hardest part of football is situations. Right. Because everyone is fast. Everyone is strong. Everyone is talented. Everyone is a mutant. That's why you are in the NFL. But the ones that win the most understands the situations. That's why I call Bill Belichick the situational master because he wins like, okay, before the half, after the half, two minutes, four minutes, he gets those things. Yeah. You know. Okay, both New York teams, you played for the Giants. Daniel Jones' biggest game of his career against Washington. He plays poorly this weekend. Let's say, you run the Giants.

Do you make the decision in the moment, we're drafting a quarterback? He stinks this weekend. I think. Biggest game of his career. It's a big one. It is a big one, but I just don't think I would have been convinced just all season. I think he had to play really exceptional for me to believe that. Okay.

You know, when you're a general manager, and this sounds Ben, when you're a GM, you take over a team, these aren't your players. So everyone is auditioning. everyone you may look at okay like say quine you're like all right this dude's different you know but even even i thought he was moved he was movable i was like sanfran is a good spot for him they obviously went and got mcalfrey but i thought sanfran will be a good situation so everyone is auditioning you're not you're not tied to this person you know and and you know there's going to be some quarterbacks on the market there's going to be some guys in the draft so i think unless you're in a situation where you really can get anyone else yet you're not in a bad spot but you surely have to

you evaluate everything. All right. Jets. Biggest Jets game in several years. Zach Wilson starting against the Lions team at home that's beatable. He stinks. He unravels. Same question. Do you make a decision?

We got a good draft pick. We're getting a quarterback. Yeah, no, Zach, I give him another year. I give Zach another year. Yeah, I do give him another year. Just because you did go up and get him super early, he did have his struggles. You do have a really good defense. Yes.

You do have a really good defense. So you can be viable with him next. year. Yeah, and you have a really, and it's a really young team. So you're going to have a lot of these pieces here, you know, and you get your running back back next year, too, you know. Oh, Breeze Hall. Yeah.

Breeze Hall was outstanding this year. So there's a lot of things that can happen in terms of, you know, even adding more depth to the offensive line. And for Zach Wilson, I think this is, this is finally a chance for him to go through some adversity. Like, this was needed for him, for him to get sat down, like, put in time out. was needed. Every, every, every QB has to deal with some kind of adversity, like, like everyone, you know? Yeah. And, and I think this is his. Okay, I'm going to go have a fish soup.

I knew you were coming with some stuff, man. Hey, you don't get wine, Somaliers on your show much. You ain't out there hanging out, wasting your time. You want fish soup. Because I love fish soup. Do you really? That's gross. What do you mean gross? Like, like, look, like to hang out. I grew up on the dog. Will you have fish soup on your own, though? I would never make. I go to a restaurant and order stuff. I can't make. I grew up on the coast of Washington State next to a can of me. I don't think fish soup is gross, but okay, we talked earlier. You were like, hey, if you live closer, like, we would hang out more. I don't want you ordering fish soup if we're hanging out. That's kind of like... You're trying to control what I order? Maybe we wouldn't hang out. I'd get tired of you.

You just like rude this. Yeah, it was kind of like, why would you bring fish soup to the restaurant? Like, I'll probably have one like good cologne and the restaurant's probably cool and like, a good dish comes by and it's like, oh, here's your fish soups. Okay, if I get New York strip, medium rare, horseradish asparagus, what wine should I have? Let's get the horse radish off the strip. Okay. You are really controlling. Huh?

I thought Ann told me what to order. Ann's like, you're not ordering that. You're not ordering that. Okay. New York strip, medium rare, asparagus, what's the wine? No horseradish. No horse radish. How about just experience?

I can't say, because I'm trying to talk about to last. Asparagus. Yes. Strip, medium rare, you said. New York Strip. You know what? I'm trying to give a plug to somebody's wines here. No, just don't do that.

There's a reason I moved. It's very difficult. All right, let's start with the Will's former team, Green Bay Packers. Haven't had a great season. Aaron Rogers, sorry, five and eight outside the playoffs right now. They face the Rams Monday night. McVeigh says L.A. isn't making the mistake of overlooking the down packers. I don't care what the record says.

This is a really good football team. I mean, they're always a formidable outfit. They've got, you know, great personnel on all three levels. I think they've done a great job. You know, when you look at it offensively, they're running the football really efficiently. You've obviously seen the rookie receiver Watson has really come to life from the Dallas game on. Aaron Rogers is still Aaron Rogers. No, I think off a buy, I think Green Bay is going to play okay.

I would say this. The thing about Green Bay this year, I can't get over. I love so many players on this defense, and it's been so average all year. Below average. This was a playoff game two years ago. Remember at Lambo? And the Packers won, didn't they? Yeah, Packers won.

And now it's like a Monday night football. Are you going caroling with the family and friends, or are you watching Baker-Mafield versus? No, hell no. watching this game. It's one of my favorite of the weekend. Oh, I think it's great. Baker Mayfield's made the Rams interesting. Hey, Baker Mayfield lives in L.A. He is welcome on that couch

anytime he wants. I'll give him a half hour. I think he's interesting. I thought he was boring in Carolina. Now I think he's interesting again, and I'm rooting for him. I want to see him get a bridge quarterback job. You tell me, Davis Mills or Baker Mayfield in Houston, what would you want? He's way more interesting.

I probably want Mike White above both those guys. That's not a joke either. No, Baker now with the Rams, what if he wins in Green Bay? Whoa, whoa, whoa. Baker's going to give himself the bag. He's not going to get the franchise bag, but he's going to get a nice two-year, $18 million a year contract. Touchdown spread, I believe, on this one. I know. I like Green Bay, but a 30-20 Green Bay.

But I want to see how Baker plays. All right. On to a good quarterback. Tom Brady, unfamiliar territory with the Bucks this season. They're still hanging on to the top spot in the woeful NFC South. Even though they're just six and seven, Brady is staying optimistic about the team's chances going forward. It's not over in week 13. That's why you play all 17 weeks. So that's what we're doing. And we'll see where we're measured at the end of the year. But there's no lack of, I guess, maybe it's one of the strengths.

There's no lack of quit. There's no lack of fight. Guys are practicing their ass off. We're trying to work hard to make the right improvements. And it's, you know, every day you're challenging this sport. No one's feeling sorry for us. No one's outside of the locker room can do much about it. come together and we got to do it ourselves. I'll tell you what, you know, we tend to do this. I'm guilty of this too, is that you get to the end of the year and you think the season's over. I mean, Tennessee is a good football team. This game against the Chargers got to win it.

The Raiders, Derek Carr's playing for his job. I mean, there's a lot of stuff on the line this weekend. Baker Mayfield literally could get, could change economically his life if he goes to Green Bay and lights it up. Back-to-back weekends, there'll be a GM in the line. league. There'll be two, three that'll go, we're going to make Baker the guy. Slow down with Baker. If there's a bet to make this week where you just absolutely nothing in your eyes, the numbers say take them. It has to be Tampa Bay, right? Against Joe Burrow. No. Nobody's taking Tampa Bay, right? There's a reason. They've looked like,

you know what? I think this may be coming up in headlines. All right. about 15 minutes. All right. Final story of the day, James Hardin, Colin, in the NBA, he's had a trying last couple seasons, traded twice, battled through multiple injuries, took last year's playoff loss hard, but he's hoping he can find his groove in Philly. Recently, Hardin sat down with Fox Sports NBA writer, Yaron Weitzman, to discuss the recent trails in his career and what he still wants to accomplish.

Here's James Harden. The whole two years was a low point. I've never really had to deal with something like that. My body, mentally, physically. a lot going on. I mean, basketball is everything to me. I don't expect people to feel sorry for me. I'd rather just not talk about it and keep to myself than just keep pushing. I'm one of the people that change the game of basketball. Honestly, the only thing I'm missing is a championship. This is kind of revealing stuff from James Harden, who I don't think anybody thinks synonymously

with James Harden that, like, he's changed the game of basketball. I think James Harden, I think, you know, playoff failures. In the offseason, he's in the strip club. He reminds me a lot of a 70s and 80s NBA player where didn't play a ton of defense, really fun, flashy, creative, could score, get a bucket, like a really fun watch. But James Harden in 15 years disappears into the ether and we don't talk about him. Because he just didn't win. We talk about Kobe and Michael and Bird and Magic. I watch so many guys in the 70s and 80s.

I love their games, but they just weren't winners. And so the downside to being James Hardin where you got all the points, we don't really, I mean, Carl Malone is never a talking point. The mailman? Because he never delivered in the NBA. Well, again, and again, he was a unique player, very interesting game, one of the great ever at his position, never talked about. I'm not knocking it, but that's the downs.

Barclays made himself relevant without a title because he's so engaging on TV. But, I mean, Dan Marino is maybe the most physically gifted quarterback of my entire life. We bring up Elway, Montana, Brady, the downside to not winning a title, and you can make all the money and get all the points. Carmelo's never going to be a topic. LeBron's going to be a topic for the next 20 years I'm on the air. Let me ask you on Hardin. I don't want to kick Kyrie Irving while he's down, and Kyrie Irving, you know, is falling in line. But this is another guy who wanted to hitch his wagon to, to.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving and Brooklyn. It went sideways instantly. Colin, three years ago, I think on this network, we were talking about James Hardin, one of the best offensive players the NBA's ever seen. Now he's like an afterthought in Philadelphia. Yeah. Because he went to Brooklyn with Kyrie Irving.

Well, by the way, they butted heads big time. And when you see Steve Nash out here, LA, you can hear the good stories about that. He closed a lot of clubs. And there's a price to pay for that. He's aged very quickly. Kobe didn't. Kobe, I can remember having a friend who had,

who knew Kobe very well. Kobe was going to bed early, eating his salmon, his spinach, working out, getting sleep. Kobe considered Kobe was a CEO who just happened to play basketball. He treated his body and his game like it was accompanied.

LeBron's the same way. Brady's the same way. James was just talented and creative, but as they say about some baseball pitchers, they closed the bar. They were just up late. You know, you go on the road on baseball,

gamer, you can stay in that hotel bar all night long. And those guys don't last very long. So it's basically Brady, Kobe, McIntyre, Cowherd, guys who really know get to bed early. Well, I mean, stop boozing it up, work out early in the morning. I'm playing hoops tomorrow, 7.30 a.m. Oh, come on. That's no fun. I'm going to get some buckets tomorrow. Sleep in, go get a big omelet, have a life.

I'm on the Chargers. Colin, one of my favorite stats last week when we talked about Chargers, Keenan Allen and Mike Williams combined had played 46 snaps together all season. That's it. So some of these season-long metrics for the Chargers are way off because of the injuries on the offensive line, the wide receivers. Herbert had the ribs. They're getting healthy now.

The defense should be getting at least three of those starters back that were missing last week, and Tennessee is a mass unit. Go look at the secondary. Fulton, their best quarterback, still not practicing. Autry and Simmons, we don't know if they're going to go. This is just a beat-up Tennessee team. They look tired. I think the Chargers and Brendan Staley deliver.

One of the more interesting matchups could be low-scoring. Belichick faces Josh McDaniel tomorrow's headlines today. What you got on Patriots and Raiders? Belichick has dominated the Raiders. On six straight, five by double digits, obviously not against McDaniels. The headline will be sold out. Vegas taken over by Red and Blue Man Group. I know you like the Raiders here.

They're getting back a couple guys possibly. But I just look at this Raiders team and defensively, 31st in the league in defense, Colin. Like, Matt Jones is not good. I mean, I know you're liking him. You talked yourself into Mac Jones this week. I don't like him. I think he has a really successful day against his Raiders defense. and you want to look at special teams.

Bill Belichick, beat the Jets with a great special teams play. I mean, everything here lines up for Patriots. I don't like them. I don't want to see them in the playoffs. I just don't like the vibe around the Raiders. I know you like this one tomorrow's headlines today. Joey B. Joe Cool, Browns and the Bucks. This is probably the toughest game.

This is going to take a lot of intestinal fortitude if you want to bet this game. The headline will be Tom Terrific takes Joe Coolellan. cool to school. Yes, I know. I've picked against a Bengals like seven times a season. I think I'm like one and six. It has not gone well. The buck has to stop here, right? If you are betting the Bengals, Colin, you're buying the top of the market, right? Remember, they were playing the Browns recently. They were three and a half point favorites against the Browns at home. And now the road favorites against Tom Brady. This is a Cincinnati team, by the way, check out the injury report. You wanted to mention injuries. It looks like they're going to be out three starters

defensively. Still no word on Hendrickson. Tristan Worf's trending toward playing back at left tackle for Brady. They will need him. I think Tom stops the bleeding here, and it's finally a happy holiday for Mr. Brady in Tampa. Tomorrow's headlines today. I'm not sure how watchable it'll be Browns and the Ravens are sputtering. Yeah, Deshaun Watson's been awful since he's been about one touchdown. It's going to be low-scoring and ugly.

Ravens, aren't you excited for the backup quarterback? No, nobody is. The headline will be squawkward. Ravens get no action without Jackson. Now, we didn't talk about this. I've been saving this, Colin. Lamar Jackson just watched Kyler Murray go down. Season over.

Luckily, Kyler Murray got paid in the offseason, so he's rehabbing all year. You think Lamar Jackson's itching to get back out there without a contract? Seeing Kyler Murray just go down? I think you've got to let that marinate. Ravens are rushing Tyler Huntley back off the concussion. I think it's a little risky. Listen, I know the Browns have not looked good with Deshawn Watson. I'm laying it here.

Nick Chubb has historically done well against the Ravens. Ravens had not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 21 games. I think that streak ends here. Give me the Browns, and I'm taking Deshaun Watson to open up the offense and make some things happen. He was better in a second outing than his first. Tomorrow's headlines today. Oh, dear. Save the best for last, right? So Zach Wilson News obviously kind of changes the handicap here. The headline. It will be Fortress of Solitude. Lions end zone left lonely. Give me the Jets, Colin, even though Zach Wilson is starting.

Two meetings. had the two worst games of his career against Sala when he was in San Francisco. They really are able to bottle him up. I think the Jets defense win this game.
