Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to The Clifford show on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:04 And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok. On the Look Back at it podcast. For 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 is big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard Podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRadio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeartRadio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FS on.
Starting point is 00:01:58 You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. All right, hour three flying by live in Los Angeles. It's the herd. Wherever you may be, however you may be listening. Thanks for Megadus. Part of your day. Frank Reich, Carolina Panthers, already fired. I think it's a big mistake by Carolina.
Starting point is 00:02:21 You can go back to 2018 when David Tepper, the owner, bought that franchise. They have run through coaches every year. I think it's a mistake. You're not going to get top candidates unless you massively overpay, which he's a billionaire. Maybe it's all a rounding error. But I think the lack of continuity is a problem. It was viewed as a very good offensive staff. We don't know.
Starting point is 00:02:40 David Tepper could have forced him to draft Bryce Young. For all we know, Frank Wright wanted to draft C.J. Strout, who knows. I was told that Frank like Bryce Young, I think it's very hard to judge him. Only a handful of games in. They have no offensive talent. It's the weakest offensive talent in the league skill-wise. I don't even think there's anybody close. Chuba Hubbard's fine.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Mingo's like a three. They just don't have enough good dudes. And so I think that's, I think it's a mistake. When you start firing, that's why I keep defending Robert Sala. The Jets have a history of running through coaches. You get much weaker candidates. Who's going to move their wife, their kids, pull them out of schools? Nobody wants, even if it's seven figures, coaches make a lot of money.
Starting point is 00:03:23 The top candidates are like, no thanks. I don't want to be humiliated. I don't want a meddling boss. I don't like what Carolina is doing. Even if it's the right move and I don't think it is, the general manager. Get some players. They don't have any players.
Starting point is 00:03:36 How much of it do you think is the owner seeing a defensive coach in Domeko Ryan's having a quarterback who's dominating, drafted second overall? And meanwhile, I got Frank Reich, my offensive guy. We got Bryce Young, we traded up. We can't do a damn thing. Our offense is stuck in the mud. How much does that matter do you think for Tepper?
Starting point is 00:03:52 Well, I think if you're comparing yourself to other people, that's bad personally. And it's, I think in business sometimes you have to monitor other businesses. But if you're making decisions based on what's happening in Houston, then you don't know what you're doing. You've got to have your own belief system and your own vision. You can't, I think this is a bad move. This is not the answer to me, but, you know, whatever. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1 and the IHeart Radio app.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Clivert Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football,
Starting point is 00:05:03 or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.
Starting point is 00:05:22 One week I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast, it's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So if you've ever supported me or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be. Starting point is 00:05:55 Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jek. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down,
Starting point is 00:06:15 and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple, podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Played for 11 years in the NFL's, Bengals, Seahawks, Ravens Raiders, the former Oregon Stater, they're looking for a football coach. T.J. Hushman Zata joins us. Okay, so we got a bunch of stuff to talk about. Let's start with what's happening with Sean Payton and Russell Wilson. And, I mean, if you go look at Russell Wilson's passer ratings, they're all great except last year where he was like Desmond Ritter. So, you know, the reality is Hackett was over skis.
Starting point is 00:07:24 It happens. Half the quarterbacks in the first round bust. Coaches bust. Is this a Sean Payton story or a Russell Wilson story? It's a little bit of both, but a lot of Sean Peyton more than Russell Wilson. I mean, the player has to go out there and play. So you give me the best game plan in the world. If I don't execute it, is it really the best game plan?
Starting point is 00:07:42 Right. And so, but Sean Payton has proven year after year after year that he's a great coach because look at the Saints now. You know? So when he was at the Saints, they're very, very good. Well, Chargers, by the way, he wanted the Chargers job. They didn't hire him. They're circling the drain.
Starting point is 00:08:02 Banging themselves. Banging a head on the wall right now, regretting that. Because Sean Payton is a fantastic coach. Last year, everybody was, oh, Russell Wilson. I don't know if Russell Wilson is watched. Russell Wilson can't play anymore. Russell Wilson looks good now. They're winning games.
Starting point is 00:08:20 They got their left tackle back and a new coach. The coach is the biggest reason why. Russell Wilson understands what he wants. Nathaniel Hacken, no disrespect, but he hasn't had success as an offensive coordinator. Yeah, when Aaron Rogers is the quarterback, and I'd probably be a great offensive coordinator with Aaron Rogers is my quarterback. But when you look, when he was in Jacksonville, Nathaniel Hackett, his offenses weren't very good. when he went to Denver Russell Wilson looked like he was done
Starting point is 00:08:51 Done Nobody with the New York Jets can play quarterback Is it really all the quarterbacks or is it back it? And so Sean Payton has done a hell of a job with Russell Wilson His confidence is back
Starting point is 00:09:05 Because Russell Wilson is always going to say the right things but I'm sure after last year he took a hit in his confidence His self-belief And so to have Sean Payton come back and restore that or come in there and restore that, that's good for them. So in Los Angeles, the Chargers are not a big brand, but on Monday Sports Talk Radio in the city, they're always the discussion because with Sean McVeigh, manufacturing wins
Starting point is 00:09:29 with a rebuild roster, they now have more wins than the Chargers who have an elite receiver, quarterback, left tackle, center, pass rushers. What do you do? Do you think players, you know, players will always say it's not the coach's fault. But when the losses start adding up, do you think guys in that room have turned after last night? They're frustrated. It's frustration when you have the talent that they have. You can see it.
Starting point is 00:09:54 It's frustrating. Like Kenan Allen Fummers, you're like, best player. Austin Nekler Fummers. It's like the defense finally plays a really good game. And the offense is giving a ball. They have four turnovers. A team that didn't turn a ball over much going into this game and they turn it. over four times.
Starting point is 00:10:14 And you're playing Jalen Guyton and Erickson at receiver. I know these guys, but the majority of people don't know these guys. Who are these guys? You draft Quentin Johnson in the first round. Can't play right now. And you benched them. Like, you benched. And so
Starting point is 00:10:30 they're missing on guys, guys at positions that they really need. And so Herbert is having to do so much. Like, when you go to the last drive, that covers zero. You see it's coming. You know it's coming. Change the protection. Slide everybody to the left so at least you can pick it up because
Starting point is 00:10:50 it really wasn't zero. They dropped a guy back. So it could have been picked up. It's just so many things going on that the defense finally plays well. The offense doesn't. Would you fire him? Give Kellynmore six games, five games? At this point, you probably have to go in a different direction because the message isn't being received. It's almost like I'd like to see in some of these situations. with defensive coaches, and I think this is one of them. Let's see what Kellanmore can do. You're out of the playoff picture.
Starting point is 00:11:18 I mean, it feels like you're on the outside looking in now. It's tough for the Chargers. Their schedule isn't easy down the stretch. And these next three games, they're winnable. They're winnable. It's just when you continue to lose close games year after year, game after game, that's a problem. They're losing close games.
Starting point is 00:11:40 yesterday could have been a one possession game. And it's the story of the Charger season the last couple of years. We play it close. The game is close, but we're going to find a way to lose. Yeah. So you start looking, and they're not a big, big story, Carolina. They fire their coach. Since 2018, I don't know what the number is.
Starting point is 00:12:01 They've had six or seven coaches, if you count interim. So you were with Cincinnati, and for years, even though they were dysfunctional, you had one coach, Marvin Lewis. And so I had said that for years. You had Andy Dalton and Marvin Lewis for a long time. And you don't have to love it, but there is something to be said about continuity. And so if you ever been in between the Bengals, Seahawks, Ravens, Raiders, Carolina now feels like the Raiders did about six years ago.
Starting point is 00:12:30 You're like, I'm not even sure do they count as an NFL franchise. What do you think the players inside of Carolina feel today? So they just fired rule. they fire Reich. Have you ever been in a locker room that you as a player, you can't concentrate. It's such a circus. You're wondering what's going on. What I will say is this. The owner wants to win so bad that he's making terrible decisions. Like he wants to win so bad and he thinks he's doing his team and organization. He's doing the right thing and he isn't. the Carolina Panthers aren't a good team.
Starting point is 00:13:08 They don't have the weapons. When you trade DJ Moore and you draft a quarterback number one, who's he going to throw the ball to? Well, I said this. We always knock the Chicago Bears who play tonight. But what they did, they said we have Justin Fields. We don't know if he's it, but we're going to give him a fair shot. What do they do?
Starting point is 00:13:25 They went and got DJ Moore. Claypool. Claypool, a second tight end. They also, a lot of draft capital on the O line. So their takeaway, and they gave up Roquan Smith. Well, they knew Roquan Smith was great. He is great. It's probably the second best linebacker in football.
Starting point is 00:13:39 But their takeaway was, we got to make sure that if Justin Fields doesn't work, we give him a shot. And that's why I've been harder on Justin Fields. Dude, you've got some players now. Why I defend Bryce Young is mingoes a three. Maybe a, they don't have anybody. Chuba Hubbard, Chuba Hubbard's a nice back. And not special. You know what it is, too, Colin?
Starting point is 00:14:03 Domeico Ryan's and C.J. Stroud. So that's what J.MAC said. D'Amico Ryan and C.J. Stroud have put pressure on the Frank Wright and the Carolina Panthers to he's doing this. Bryce was a consensus. Everybody would have drafted Bryce number one, including the Texans. Everybody would have drafted Bryce number one. Yeah. And to see what D'Mico Rines and C.J. Stroud have done with the Houston Texans, it's like, wait.
Starting point is 00:14:32 and you'll say, oh, he has weapons. Really? Really? When did Nico Collins become a weapon before CJ Stroud? When did Noah Brown become a weapon before CJ Stroud? Tankdale is a rookie that you could have drafted, and you didn't. And so, yeah, they're good weapons now, but CJ has made them better weapons. And so if you're the Panthers, if you're a coach, you're not going to the Carolina Panthers. not a coach that has options?
Starting point is 00:15:03 That's right. Why would I go there to possibly be fired in a year and uproot my family? You're just not going to do it. So they'll get a coach that has no options. Okay, so I want to shift to college football because you've always been great on this. So, Pac-12 championship,
Starting point is 00:15:18 here's my take. Michigan, Oregon, and Georgia are the best teams in the country. In that order? No, I think Oregon's the best team. Okay, I'm with you with Oregon. I think Oregon is the best. So do I.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Yeah. And I'm not saying this is the West Coast guy. I've watched them live twice. Listen, that game they lost in Seattle, they outplayed the Huskies. I don't know who was winning that game. At that point, Georgia wasn't as good as Georgia's gotten better. Maybe
Starting point is 00:15:42 Michigan went to that game, but that I was there. You couldn't hear yourself think. It was a zoo, and Oregon came down to a field goal. I mean, they out played them for portions in that game. And so I think Oregon, Michigan, and Georgia are the three best teams. Who would you put
Starting point is 00:15:58 for? So I take out Florida State because they're on a backup quarterback. I think Ohio State's the fourth best team, but I think the best win is Texas at Bama, so Texas gets in. I don't think Alabama's that great. And again, if Texas beats Oklahoma State, I
Starting point is 00:16:14 think you have to put them in, don't you? I would go with Ohio State. I would because Texas has had a lot of close calls this year. Ohio State lost a close game against a very good Michigan team in Ann Arbor.
Starting point is 00:16:30 me personally, I believe Ohio State and Texas played, Ohio State would win. No, I feel the same way. I think Ohio State's the fourth best team in the country. Absolutely. And I feel they would, I really do believe that they would handle Florida State, Bama, and Texas, and you would watch that game, and there would be no question. Yeah, Florida State with them losing, if the quarterback hadn't gotten hurt, Florida State would be in there.
Starting point is 00:16:53 But with the quarterback hurt. So let me ask you this. So here's my other theory, that getting the number one seed in a 14-plus, playoff is huge. We go to the 12-team playoff next year. Nobody wants to play Georgia, Oregon first. You want to be the number one seed and get Florida State or Alabama.
Starting point is 00:17:13 And I'm going to make this argument that Michigan going 6 and 0 without hardball is not a weakness. I don't think less of Michigan. I think more of Michigan. I don't think Texas goes 11 and 1 without Sark. Bama doesn't have one loss only without
Starting point is 00:17:28 Sabin. I don't think Washington. Washington's undefeated without Kalin-Dabor. If you can win six times, you can go to Penn State and beat Ohio State without Harbaugh. That is a great team. That's such a, what Harbaugh, the culture that he's established at Michigan, to do that, no other team in the country can do that. Nick Sabin is not with Alabama. They're not beating Auburn.
Starting point is 00:17:51 They're not winning these games. And Harbaugh is an offensive guy. And for them to do what they've done, His coaches, you got to give him a ton of credit, but you got to give Harbaugh a ton of credit for the culture that he's built. But, yeah, I think Oregon is the best team. Oregon is going to punish Washington this Friday in the Pac-12 championship. They just have, Bo Nix looks really good.
Starting point is 00:18:17 Look like he couldn't play in Auburn, but he looks like he's going to be a first-rounder at Oregon. Troy Franklin in Rome, Dunezay, both of those receivers, one for Oregon, the other from Washington, will be battling to see what going to be the second receiver. drafted to me in this draft both of those guys can really really play Trey Franklin doesn't get the recognition that a lot of this dude can play he can really play in high school this dude he six two and a half can run got good sudden
Starting point is 00:18:46 his really good quickness kick and play do you know anybody that played under Harbaugh you know anybody in your career no but I played under John and I I like playing under John so much I'm just just like, your brother got to be cool. I used to talk to him about this. And I don't know Jim, but I played under John. And I follow football. Like, I love football.
Starting point is 00:19:11 I don't just, I love football. And so he's been a great coach everywhere. He was at Stanford. You couldn't win at Stanford. They were 0.12. They went winless, which is, I think they went winless one year, which is virtually impossible as a Power 5 team. They were solid with Tyrone Williamham.
Starting point is 00:19:30 and then they fell off. Harbaugh comes in, and he's sending all these tight ends and all these offensive linemen to the National Football League. They beat Pete Carroll as a 40-point dog in the Coliseum. He's a good coach.
Starting point is 00:19:42 That's just everywhere he goes, you give him some time, get his guys in there and get the team constructed the way he wants, they win. I mean, you look at the 49ers. As soon as he left, they fell off. They're back now,
Starting point is 00:19:54 but they fell off, and they were terrible when he got the 90s. People forget what a mess Michigan was. The stadium was a, third empty. Michigan Stadium has been full my whole life. He's a good coach. He's a good coach. All right.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Justin Fields tonight. If he loses, this is a showcase standalone game. If Justin Fields loses tonight, do we, you know, I know they always say quarterback, it's not a, you know, it's not about the quarterback. What's that line they always use about the analytic people say that winning is not a, yeah,
Starting point is 00:20:26 winning is not a quarterback stat. And to that I say, if Dave, Davis Mills was starting for the Texans today with the same players and C.J. Stroud, they would be like two and whatever. Don't tell me quarterback. They open up the playbook. You play with a lead with a good quarterback. They make throws the backup can't.
Starting point is 00:20:44 A coach can coach differently with a good quarterback. So at the end of the day, Chicago has good enough weapons now and a good enough old line. They need to win games. Let's say they go out tonight and they lose again. Do you think in that room, GM, coach, they are just, saying we got to get Caleb it really depends on can he continue to progress can he continue to get better look at a guy like Jordan Love last few games he's gotten better every game he's showing progress he's showing you that oh I might be getting this because remember
Starting point is 00:21:19 this TJ you may be able to get three to four first round picks you'll get at least two probably three first round picks with Caleb Williams you go Caleb Williams you go Caleb may be the best quarterback to come into the league in the last 10, 15 years. At least that's what people believe. If that's the case, you can really fortify your team if you trade those picks. Now, you don't have to win this game, but Justin Fields cannot be the reason that you don't win. Like, if he's the reason you lose, it's a problem. You have to draft Caleb Williams.
Starting point is 00:21:56 You're playing against Josh Dobbs, who's done very well. but Josh Dobbs is a backup. He's a backup quarterback. Nobody has believed in him. And Kevin O'Connell that's coaching. Like, Josh, he's done a great job with him. You cannot be the reason, Justin Fields, if you want the Chicago Bears to forego
Starting point is 00:22:17 who many believe is a generational quarterback in Caleb Williams. You cannot be the reason you lose this game. You cannot. Good seeing you, buddy. The same. Appreciate it. The Mercedes-Benz Holiday Love Celebrations here,

Starting point is 00:26:21 All right, let's not waste any time. We got a lot of stuff to talk about. with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Boy, just, I'm going to put it out there. This NFL offseason coming up, it's going to be crazy. If some of the stuff we were just talking about with TJ could come to fruition, man, NFL is just getting super exciting.
Starting point is 00:26:44 All right, let's go to college football, Colin. The Washington Huskies, man, they had a tough one in the Apple Cup. Tide game with less than two minutes to go. Gutsy call to go for it on fourth and one, and then they get the game. game-winning 42-yarder to get the W finish 12-0. They faced Oregon in the Pac-12 title game on Friday. I think this is appointment viewing Friday night, right? This is like a, you're not like going out or hanging out with the family.
Starting point is 00:27:08 This is like, I got to watch this. Yeah, and I think it's going to be, Oregon's a really good team. And I think I don't take too much from this game. I mean, Auburn, Alabama, Washington, Washington State. You get into these rivalry college games. The underdogs almost always the side. I was telling a friend this year day. Michigan, Ohio State is one of the few rivalry games where I feel the best team always wins.
Starting point is 00:27:31 A lot of times, and I thought, like, the Michigan Ohio State game went pretty much as I thought. Second half, Michigan got the cover, too. Michigan would get, you know, I picked Michigan to win. I thought they'd cover. I thought they were the side. But a lot of these games, like Washington, Washington State, Washington's looking ahead to Oregon. Washington State's not very good. Auburn, Alabama, same deal, right?
Starting point is 00:27:51 Yeah, so Alabama, Auburn. no good. So I think Alabama will lose to Georgia, but when you watch them play, you'll be like they should be in that game. That Alabama that played Saturday would get smoked by Georgia. Now let me ask Oregon Washington, okay? T.J. just said Oregon's going to destroy
Starting point is 00:28:08 them. You're saying Oregon's going to destroy them. Anybody you look online, Oregon's aside. Seven and a half steamed up to nine and a half. Colin, we've talked about this for years now. When the whole world is on one side, do you need to take a pause and be like, yeah, if it gets to 10, take Washington, because Washington,
Starting point is 00:28:24 is exceptionally well coached, has a good enough offensive line to give Pennix time. And the other thing is that Washington's receivers are so good they could backdoor cover easily. Now, I think it feels very 34-24-Oregon to me. That's what it feels like. But if you give me an NFL first-round quarterback, first-round receivers, a great offensive coach in 2023, to me it's a stay-away game in terms of betting it like Washington is, I mean, when's the last regular season game Washington lost? It's been a while. I mean, it's, now, they've been in close ones, but they've won all of them. I do.
Starting point is 00:29:03 You were at the Oregon-Washington initial game. I just looked at the box score. Oregon had 540 yards of offense. Oregon, they rushed for 200 yards. Oh, yeah. 10 for 16 on third down. So they kind of dominated the box score. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:29:16 When I left that game, I was with Huskies. Every Husky fan was like, I don't want to play this. them again. I think they're better than us. This is not like Ohio State fan. Husky fans are like, listen, we won, we wouldn't win neutral, we wouldn't win an Opsom. Like everybody knew, all my Husky buddies are all like, I don't want to play that team again. Oregon is totally for real. Very rarely does the national champion in college football have no losses. It happens, but losing on the last second in Seattle for Oregon is not a criticism. I don't know who would won that game outside of maybe Michigan.
Starting point is 00:29:51 Is there a coaching edge? Because I did look at this. Oregon, I remember this. Their coach bungled two trips inside the 10 and they got zero points. I think, I've watched Oregon twice live. I think there, people have to get over this fourth down call stuff. You can't, you, that's like saying you take Warren Buffett
Starting point is 00:30:07 and he, you know, Warren Buffett, by the way, brilliant value investor. He was from, he invested in newspapers 15 years ago. And I can remember being on the air at the other place and saying, that's a bad investment. I was doing a rant on brilliant people do dumb things.
Starting point is 00:30:24 It's okay. Nobody's perfect except trolls on the internet. And I'm like, you cannot invest in newspapers between Craigslist and the urgency of radio and TV and digital and all the streaming stuff that starts. So a coach makes a bad fourth down call. You can be a great coach. McVeigh, by the way, I think is brilliant. He's done some clock management stuff sometimes this year.
Starting point is 00:30:46 I'm like, Sean tends to get a little cute. So everybody's a genius on the sidelines. There are no perfect. Andy Reed's reputation for years in Philadelphia was. He was terrible at clock management. He didn't have Mahomes. Funny nobody talks about it. I want to make a case for Washington.
Starting point is 00:31:03 We'll see. Next up, let's talk about the Rams. Awesome, awesome performance for them. I like the Rams. That was a good win for me. Stafford four touchdowns. But the real story, Colin, was the return of Kyron Williams, who was exceptional.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Over 200 yards of offense. end of the third quarter, he had more yards from scrimmage than the Cardinals' entire team did. Fifth round pick at a Notre Dame. His kid was awesome. Now, this kind of changes the trajectory of the Rams, right? Cooper Cup got back, although he wasn't 100%. But Kyron gave them a new dimension. They have now swept Seattle?
Starting point is 00:31:36 They have swept the Cardinals. They're in the playoff mix. I was wrong about the Rams this year. And they got a break because they play Cleveland next and they're like number two or three quarterback. So I think the Rams is the side this week. Just be careful about the number. five. It was four last night. I got it
Starting point is 00:31:51 four. I like the Rams. Cleveland, their home road splits are vastly different. That defense is great at home on the road. Leaky. Let me ask you this. Is Miles Garrett going to play? We'll see. He left the stadium on a sling. Miles Garrett. But I want to tell you, if you watch the Rams and you're
Starting point is 00:32:07 obviously in Los Angeles, we watch them more. The story of the Rams this year is what McVeigh has done to this offensive line. I've been banging on the Bill's, the Seahawks, the Steelers for year, O-line, defensive coach. I always give Sean McVeigh or Andy Reid credit for rebuilding an O-line coach. The difference between offensive and defensive coaches,
Starting point is 00:32:32 I think you can pinpoint their relationships A with quarterbacks and their ability to get the most or rebuild an O-line. This Rams O-Line in camp, in preseason, and in September was a mess. Sean McVeigh has made that a reasonable. formidable O-line, and they have moved pieces every week. That is coaching. That old line yesterday, you're like, wow. By the way, we didn't talk much about Kyler Murray, who after last six
Starting point is 00:33:01 before him's like, oh yeah, Kyler, he's back. Franchise guy, for sure. Jury's still out on my side. I think we disagree greatly here. Arizona gets the second pick. They've got a decision to make, Colin. Like it's hard. Do we trade the pick?
Starting point is 00:33:17 Do we take Marvin Harrison? I don't think you could trade from two to three. Three. Maybe. We'll see. Are you sure? I would draft Marvin Harrison. I think he is a franchise changing player. So I... As a receiver.
Starting point is 00:33:30 I have... Oh, by the way. Calvin Johnson. Won a lot of playoff games for... Oh, boy. Oh, boy. I'm just saying if you're Kyler Murray, you're never as an... Ask yourself this.
Starting point is 00:33:42 If you're a general manager, which I've always told you, if I didn't do this, I'd never get a job. But my favorite job would be NFL GM. If you can draft a player as a GM in the NFL, and there's a debate that he's the greatest prospect ever at that position, you draft him. I don't care if it's Lawrence Taylor or if it's Joe Thomas. When you're drafting a guy and there's a discussion about he may be the best prospect ever, you draft it. It's like Caleb Williams is not the greatest prospect of John Elway. You draft it.
Starting point is 00:34:18 Andrew Luck. People were saying, best prospect in 10 years. If you can draft Marvin Harrison, you take him. You're never going to get a receiver like that. Okay. You want to be a GM?
Starting point is 00:34:32 The sale pitch is, I will not pay a quarterback. I will recycle the quarterback on the rookie deal all the time and I will consistently win getting out, Kyler, and getting a new quarterback. Give me all the quarterbacks
Starting point is 00:34:43 that have won that way. Super Bowls. Nobody's done. Nobody's tried that, Colin. Nobody's tried to just recycle the quarterback on the rookie deal. Keep an eye on San Francisco. Let's see what Shanahan does. Moved off. Purdy. We'll see what we got. My theory on quarterbacks is you get Elway, Payton, Brady, Breeze, Mahomes. You go get a great
Starting point is 00:35:01 quarterback. And you eventually have to pay him, but you win trophy. But they have, Kyler. He's great, right? All right, tonight's Monday night game. I think it's got some spice. Bears, Vikings. Both teams coming off tough late losses. Vikings are three-point favorites at home. It was three and a half. You can't find those anymore. No, if it's three, I would take the Vikings. Minutes three. Three and a half, I take the Bears. I just saw 10 minutes ago.
Starting point is 00:35:24 It's Justin Jefferson unlikely to play. They said, we'll hold him out. He's got the buy next week. Not great for my fantasy team, but nobody cares. I don't know. I kind of like the Bears here, plus three on the Money Line. Favorites this week are 12 and 3 against the spread. I mean, that's like a historic run.
Starting point is 00:35:43 Give me the Bears tonight, Justin Fields, on the money line. Okay, so you're going to take the Bears. to win. I'll take the plus three and the money line. Wow. So I'll take the Vikings minus three. I think it's a push. I think that's the right number. I think it's like 24-21. So all the steak dinners you owe me now, can I like just parlay them into one gigantic meal? Okay, let's do that. We'll have it on like a yacht or you can really know. I'm not going to do a yacht. We can have it at a steakhouse where normal people eat. All right, J. Mack with a news. Well, I'll tell you, Philadelphia was something last night. is that just it's just so much fun to watch so remember the game of the year
Starting point is 00:36:28 Philadelphia San Francisco now that's in Philadelphia right next week on Fox I am what time is that that's got to be the late window game for 25 yeah oh my God you know what I don't do this a lot I don't like to watch games with people I may have to hang out and watch it with people here I thought Colin was looking at me with you with people How about with Brett? So disrespectful. I'll talk to my people, try to get a hold of Bradley Cooper. Maybe we could hang out together.
Starting point is 00:36:57 I think San Francisco is actually the side. You think? Well, I think when the number this morning, they were getting points. So the Niners getting points. That's long. All the wise guys jumped on that. I think this is all the great Christmas presents you were going to buy the wife. Just put it all on San Francisco.
Starting point is 00:37:13 No, I'm not going to put it all on San Francisco. They're winning. Is that your big bet? Put it in the big bet ledger, San Francisco. At two, I don't know what to mess around. Three, this cannot continue for Philadelphia. And if they do, maybe I'll just end up broken a pauper on the side of the road or on the holidays. I think you've got to say that.
Starting point is 00:37:33 My favorite bet of the weekend is Kansas City minus six to six and a half at Green Bay. Everybody now is buying Green Bay stock. Kansas City got their second half offense percolating. They now have to win. They still have a chance to be a number one seed. Kansas City found their little groove. Mahomes on the road, Lambo, people are
Starting point is 00:37:57 old, people now are like, oh, Jordan, love. The Chief's defense is not the Lions and Chargers defense. The Chief's defense is real. Jordan Love against that Kansas City defense, there's turnovers there. I like that. Yeah, Kansas City's my side.
Starting point is 00:38:15 I know it's six and a half road team. This, this, everybody, you know how it happens. Television game, stand-alone game, Packers, win. Unbelievable. That defense for Detroit is right now currently a mess.
Starting point is 00:38:29 It's a big number to lay on the road for Mahomes, though. I know. He's not a great favorite. I'm taking Mahomes. Covered against the Raiders. All right, we're done. Three hours. Be safe. Have fun. See you tomorrow. It's the hurt. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends. Me and hilarious
