This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On The Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle grahammed.

Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing.

welcome to the J-Boy Show on the volume,
presented by Fandul, and hosted by Jake Crane.
This is Roman Harper.
This is Dave Hes, Jr.
This is David Pollock, and you're watching the J-Boy Show.
And you're watching the J-Boy Show.
So thanks for watching the J-Boy Show.
Tuesday of week one, baby, we're back at it.
Not only are we back at it.
Let me first off say, I appreciate you guys joining us again as we're marching toward.
Really, you got football tomorrow on Wednesday with you, A.B. Jackson State, Thursday, got just a great lineup.
You look at Saturday.
It is just, it's beautiful.
You have the whole table set for what is going to be a football junkie weekend.
So we're excited you can join us here in the volume, the J-Boy Show, presented by Fandul,
getting after it again.
And before I get into my monologue
and tell you how there's no way in hell
that Miami's going to beat Alabama,
let me first off say, welcome back, David Cohn.
Had their first child, Elton Cohn,
so we can already play, excuse me, Adam Elton.
Adam Elton Cone, so, you know,
he'll be able to play the piano at least.
We know that. But, man, congratulations.
I know you and Darby are happy.
I really appreciate it.
She pulled off a miracle this weekend, man.
That's all I can say.
And what did I say was going to happen?
You called it.
He was going to hear the football game,
across the street Friday night her water broke at 923 okay she labored for 18 hours all right gave birth to
adam elton at 9 pounds 3 ounces oh 3 49 p.m. Saturday and the whole the whole time she said well you make
sure you turn on the brasskin Illinois so I don't miss the open man you got a winner and even my son came out
wondering what Scott frost brass guard doing schematically well well I hope he didn't take a lot of it in
because I don't think they knew after Illinois lined up if you were
that quote but no really exciting yeah we'll get a little bit more to that at the end of the show
because i've got some questions for you but i want to start my monologue today and i want everybody
to look at me when i say this okay Miami is not going to beat Alabama you've seen people talk
about dear Eric king and i'm going to tell you why but let me just first off say that so
Miami fans you know you had that one guy put out the disc track which was awful uh please please
please don't do that again.
That's not going to save you.
But when you look at what Alabama does, first off, in season openers,
regardless of what they're replacing, they're the most prepared team.
And Nick Saban says the perfect things outside, latterly, you know,
we have to have some guys step up.
There's a lot of different factors, but make no mistake.
Alabama is going into this game as the better team with better personnel,
with better coaching,
probably a better bus,
probably slept on better pillows,
probably ate better meals,
just everything.
Alabama goes in and breaks people
week one.
And Miami, you'll remember this.
They basically picked up DeAndre Francois
threw him out the club
within the first three possessions
of number one, I think,
verse number three FSU.
I mean, that looked like
IMG versus Bishop Sycamore.
it's what that game
look like. But here is why
Alabama, in my opinion,
we're going to get to our picks later
because that line keeps going up.
It's going up and up and up and up.
Here is why
Miami has no chance.
I guess everybody always has a chance.
I mean, but this isn't a
dumb and dumber, you know,
you pretty much got a one in a million
situation going on here. And here's why.
Miami last year,
okay, and the ACC,
I've talked about.
I don't think the ACC is very strong,
had one really huge test.
They scored 17 points.
Game wasn't close against Clemson.
Deerrick King gets hurt in the Cheez-It Bowl
against Oklahoma State is having to come back.
All right.
While you can be almost as good,
you're never going to be the same
and you really don't know
until you go out there and see if you can trust it live.
but dear King congratulations your reward for coming back
is you get to face what could arguably be the best defense in the country.
So let's start with Alabama's offense against Miami's defense first.
Getting Bryce Young hot, getting them ready,
I don't think they're going to overload them.
You look at Miami's defensive line.
You lost Jayden Phillips.
You lost Quincy Roche, Roche, however you pronounce it, off the edge.
on the defensive end spot.
So in the run game, on the edge is huge.
People will talk about the interior,
but if you can control the edge,
you control the game.
So you take away two quality pass rushers.
I mean, the numbers last year,
I mean, Miami's defensive line wasn't horrible at all.
I mean, they finished with a decent amount of sacks.
But if you cannot get pressure on Bryce Young,
he is going to gain more confidence
and more confidence as the game goes.
You won't be able to stop the run.
There's questions at linebacker still.
I don't care what anybody says.
And if Bama can turn around in a, you know, Bill O'Brien's going to be calling the plays,
there's going to be some similar things to Alabama's offense,
but there's going to be some different things and different styles.
You can have the exact same offense and call the plays differently, sequentially.
Alabama is going to come out and establish the run.
That's what they're going to do.
They're going to come out and they're going to punch you straight in the face and they're going to see how you react.
Okay?
It's like throwing the first punch in the fight.
That's what it is.
They're going to see.
They're going to throw it.
And if you cannot stop it or at least slow it down, and you can tell me how good you are at corner, you can tell me that that Bolden's back.
But at that front seven cannot hold up against Alabama, which they won't, it's game set match early.
because if you control the line of scrimmage, you control the pace.
If you control the pace, you control the game.
That's what Alabama's going to do.
And what you're going to see and just remember I said this,
because we're going to simulcast this live,
and we're going to follow the bouncing balls like we're talking about right now.
Alabama will come out and run the ball early.
They'll establish the run, which is going to open the play action game,
which is huge for Bama.
And it's huge in multiple areas.
But then Miami is going to have to start taking risks.
What is a risk on defense?
A lot of it is blitzing.
So you're going to play zero.
That's when Metchy's going to eat you.
That's when Lattu's going to eat you.
You know, Billingsley, I know he's in the doghouse right now,
but they've got creatures just walking around that facility
that are ready to win one-on-one matchups.
I don't care if Devante Smith is gone.
I don't care if Waddle is gone.
They have better players than you do.
That's just the facts.
Then you start blitzing and you have your one-on-one shots.
But once you start bringing the pressure, that screen game starts to eat at you.
The slip, oh no, we got to bring six.
Oh, no, we may have to mess around and bring seven.
That slip gets you.
The now gets you.
The jailbreak gets you, which means the kitchen is wide open.
This to me is not going to be a close football game.
And Nick Sabin is known for.
coming out in that first game and throwing the punch and finding out what you're made of.
So, you know, I'm going to kick it to you guys in a second, but when I look at this,
this will not be a game.
This will be like when you're playing, you're the father and you're playing your 12-year-old
son in basketball.
And, you know, he may get a shot in.
You know, you may take a step back and let him shoot one that hits the backboard on
accident and goes in.
but you're playing to 12 and you win 11 to 1 most of the time.
That's what it's going to be in any area they want it.
Now you look at Alabama's defense compared to Miami's offense.
Brevin Jordan, gone.
That was a nice matchup for you.
But this Bama defense is scary and they're physical.
We had Jordan battle on the other day and they are ready for war on that side
because they only gave up 19 points again.
game last year, which is phenomenal.
I don't care what anybody says. So good.
It's so good.
But people were still chirping
about Bama's defense. Oh,
Bama's defense will never be the same.
Now, will you have runs like they
had in the past? The game's kind of evolving
a little bit. I don't think so. But
this defense right here
is on a mission.
Watch that first drive against Miami.
Deerrick King
is a really talented
player. And experienced.
and experience.
But he's going to be like the Jeep in Jurassic Park with the T-Rex chasing it after.
And fun fact, that T-Rex was actually running from Will Anderson.
Not a lot of people know that.
He wasn't chasing the Jeep.
He was falling the Jeep out running from Will Anderson.
But all jokes aside, watch how physical the first possession that Miami has is.
And I'm not saying they're not going to score.
Like I said, you can close your eyes and hit a few.
but consistently, if I'm Miami, I just want to get out of the game alive.
Honestly.
Yeah, I mean, look, Alabama is notorious for this, right?
You talked about the Florida State game here, Mercedes-Benz, okay?
Francois didn't make it out of the first half, and that program hasn't been the same sense.
No, they ruined them.
They broke them.
They opened with Michigan in Jerry's World in 2012 with DeNard Robinson.
That was a 41-14 game.
Ruin them.
I don't.
I mean, you can go down the list of them.
opening games.
I mean, this is what happens.
If you play against Bama, you better come out and play good early.
Because if they go up 14-0-0-10-0-0-or-need, something like that, and start squeezing
you, you're done.
If you start playing catch-up against Bama, you already lost.
Well, it's literally like being, in Texas A&M, I thought, was kind of in the same mold
a little bit last year and where, and again, I wasn't huge on Kell and Mon.
But like Blaine said, it's like just an an anaconda grabs you.
And once it grabs you, you're done.
Yeah.
Like you're done.
Because they don't get complacent.
No, no, they don't.
And they're just going to keep doing what they do.
And it's like, oh, no, the right guard went out.
Like, you know, maybe we have a shot now.
Then they just bring in, like, Jonathan Ogden's nephew, who's, you know, was a nine-star coming out of high school.
You never see Bama make the big mistake.
No.
Right?
A blown coverage.
Someone misses a tackle.
There's three people already next to him to make the tackle.
They never make the big.
mistake. Yeah, well, here's
the thing. They're the team
with pretty much the best players and they're
the best coached. When you
make
that those two things, if those
two things are true, that is how
you just start destroying people
because that's the name of the game.
And we've already talked about they draft and not recruit,
but look in these matchups,
I mean, I'm sitting here looking.
I don't see an area
or a position group where I'm like, man,
you know, I guess you could say
Deerrick King and Bryce Young just because we haven't seen Bryce a lot,
but I think Bryce is going to play fine because they're not going to ask him to do too much
because they're not going to have to.
Because again, it's a lot easier to punch someone in the face when you're bigger than they are
and you have them pinned against the ground and they can't move.
That's what it is.
Bama just pins you against the ground.
They're like, all right, get Rick in here.
Let's that Rick, though, punch.
He said, these guys said something about his sister last week.
Bama's not the guy when you're about to get in a fight to be like, I'm going to beat your ass.
They're not going to say that.
They're just going to punch you in the face.
Yeah, they just show up.
They just show up and hit you in the face.
They just absolutely show up and start pounding you.
So what is it?
Is the chat saying anything?
Yeah, you know, we've got to go on both ways a little bit right here.
We got a lot of people.
Let me see here.
Let me see.
All Auburn all day.
So it's the same as a master of opening games against mid-tier teams,
and he's proven that.
He is.
And I don't know how you call Miami.
Look, you win eight and three last year.
Cool.
Congrats.
And LCC, congrats.
Yeah, you should.
But if you look and you have D. Eric King coming off an injury and I just, you know, Rambo and you can give me all these guys.
But I'm taking Bama's guys all day.
And I don't think it's going to be close.
It is, watch the line of scrimmage.
It's funny.
Last year, Miami came out against UAB and their offensive line looked great against a really good UAB defense.
But then they looked really average.
and this Bama D line
with the mon stars they have up there
watch the line of scrimmage
and again we're going to be sitting right in here
simulcasting the game on this huge
jumbotron telling you what's going to happen
but I'm telling you right now
what is about to happen
I feel as good I know we do the feel good about
feel best about I feel unbelievably good
that Alabama is just going to
Poonpaw slam Miami all over the field that's what's going to happen
and it's right down the street
The sounds you would hear from those O-line and D-Line meeting,
meeting each other on the field would scare you.
No, it's inside drill at Bama.
Oh, God, it should be a scary movie.
It's a blood sport.
Oh, man.
It should be the Conjuring 5 inside Drill at Bama.
Picture of saving.
Yeah, just popping out of a closet, like holding a doll or something.
See, we kind of got on the other side here, too.
Positive that Ole Miss says, this is the scariest opener Alabama's facing years.
I don't think they'll lose, but subtract who they lost,
and Ad Bill O'Brien could be a nervy star.
Stephen. You're my boy, Stephen. Stephen Willis does a really good job at Ole Miss, but Stevie, I couldn't disagree with you more. I mean, again, what scares you more about this Miami team against this Bama team than that Florida State team against that Bama team? I just don't, I don't see it. I don't see a matchup where it looks good for him.
He says, the same guy says he thinks Bama is going to win by 14.
Okay, so he's going against the spread on that.
What's it up to 19 and a half now?
It's up to 19 and a half.
It's at 19.5 now, but when we announced it on the show, you can go back, it's archived.
You can go look at it 16.5.
You got them at 16 and a half.
Yeah, so it was 17 and a half, and I bought a point, and I could not feel better about it.
But, you know, I'm not going to put it because it's not fun because everybody else can't do it.
So we're going to go off the line where it is.
You know, we like to, we also like to live dangerously.
When Austin Powers hit, like decided to stay on six in blackjack because he likes to live dangerously.
We like to live dangerously here.
But speaking about living dangerously, we got Stuart Mandel, editor-in-chief of the athletic coming up here in a second.
I want to talk.
They just came out with their college football playoff and bowl projections.
And I want to talk about that also with the alliance.
We're going to talk about that, how that affects the expansion of the playoff.
And if we do expand, how does that affect the bowl game?
because it's we've gotten that question a lot but I just want to go ahead go ahead I'll let you know when
Stewart is in yep let me know let me know when he's in there like swimwear but just going back to this
Miami thing come give me one reason why you think Miami wins the game just devil's advocate me here well
I've been going over this for the last week and I think that like you said Deerick king is very experienced I
think what fifth year six year something like that he got an extra year and obviously Rhett lashly is a great
play caller so love red have red in the show great signal caller and a great play caller
That's usually a recipe to at least score points.
I just don't know how they're within three touchdowns of this game.
I just don't get it.
So if the line's 19, I'm...
Yeah.
You tell me, man.
I mean, it's hard.
It'd be hard for me not to take Bama, even at 19 and a half.
Honestly, I mean, it'd be hard, and we're going to get to the picks.
But again, again, guys, where's the game one, Blaine?
Where's it one?
It's one up front.
It is.
And Deeric King can be, you know, the...
The Houdini of Houdini's.
I mean, you could put on the sorting hat and send him wherever you want.
It's not going to save him.
You can't run your way away from Alabama.
They're going to box you in.
And if you make one guy miss, here comes the other guy off the edge that's knocking the ball out.
And I'm telling you right now, coming off that knee injury.
And I'm so glad he's close to healthy.
And I know there's great reports from the scrimmages.
This isn't a scrimmage.
And they are out for blood.
Don't think that Bama does not know that you're still a little.
wounded. Oh yeah, I can smell it. Well, I'll tell you what, we got Stuart Mandel here, so bring him in
whenever you like to say. Let's bring Stuart Mandel in here, editor-in-chief of the athletic, excited to talk
with him. Stuart, what's up, man? How you doing? Doing good, excited to have you on. We're in a big
week. Thursday. We kick off with some big games Saturday. It's finally here, brother, and I know you're
excited as I am. Yeah, it's so great to have back after last season these.
marquee non-conference games.
We were deprived of them last year.
So I've spent months just staring at that schedule and seeing Georgia Clemson and Alabama, Miami,
and next week is Ohio State, Oregon.
And it just made you realize how cool these early season intersectional games are.
Among the many things that we didn't have in 2020, that was one of them.
True.
It's like Christmas morning.
I mean, last Friday night when I was going to sleep, I woke up the next morning,
and even though the games weren't as good as this,
I almost felt like he was back in the day just running down there with the onesie,
you know, seeing what Santa are, you know, maybe your parents put under the tree.
I don't know, a lot of rumors going out about whether, you know, the Santa Claus situation.
But Cohn has a new baby, so I'm not going to start that on here.
But, Stuart, I want to get in, you guys just put out your projections, your bowl projections,
and I was looking at them.
You got Oklahoma versus Bama and Clemson versus Ohio State in the college football
playoff this year.
We're still at four.
So you got one SEC team in there.
Bama and Georgia, what was kind of your thinking, and we'll let you plug where that is,
what was kind of your thinking in taking Bama over Georgia there?
Because again, I can't blame you for betting on Sabin.
I know, it's tough.
Yeah, basically, if you put Alabama in the playoff, there's a 50-50 chance you're going to be right,
which you can't say about much else in terms of pre-season college football predictions.
Georgia, yeah, Georgia's less of a sure thing.
I do think that Kirby Smart's got a great team this season,
and G.T. Daniels, finally a quarterback that you really feel like he can count on.
Just a little bit, you know, it's just a little bit of a case of track record, obviously.
And it's obviously not ideal for Georgia that George Pickens towards ACL in the spring.
And, you know, they've already had a couple more injuries that are going to affect this Clemson game.
Not that that losing the Clemson game would necessarily eliminate them.
So we'll see.
I mean, Alabama, I think, is going to be really good on defense.
We assume Bryce Young will step in there and be fine.
We don't know for sure.
I don't think this Alabama team will be as untouchable as last year as was.
I would not be surprised at all if they lose an SEC game somewhere along the way.
I'm just not ready to pick against them in Atlanta.
Yeah, and again, I'm not going to fault you for that.
Again, it's like betting on Bigfoot.
I mean, in a fight, you're probably going to win.
But looking at Oklahoma, because this is fascinating to me,
to it because Oklahoma when I look at them, I love the addition to the SEC.
I think they're going to make a great addition, even though I think it's going to take
some time with them in Texas.
Can they just avoid losing it?
It's like they always drop one to Kansas State or Iowa State or you turn around for one second
and you look back and they're like, wait a minute.
You know, how did you do you feel like this team with Alex Grinch is the D.C.
who you can give me Spencer Radler all you want.
That defense to me is the one that's got to save you in those games because the offensive
is not always going to be there.
Yeah, you hit the nail on the head.
The thing that makes me so optimistic for Oklahoma this year
to not just win the Big 12,
but actually win a playoff game possibly,
is that defense.
It's not going to be an elite defense, I wouldn't think,
but they were a top 25 defense last season,
which is a big, big improvement for where they were
in the end of the Mike Stoops era there.
So, you know, you've got a quarterback
who's being projected as the number one,
pick. They've got two really good running backs, though they have some depth issues now behind that.
If they drop a game somewhere along the way in the Big 12, but they're 12 and 1, I would assume
they'll be there. I actually think the Big 12, as I did my research for my conference predictions,
I said, you know what, for everybody, you know, dumping on the Big 12 right now because of what's
happening in realignment, on the field in 2021, I think they could be the toughest conference outside
the SEC. There's a gap there, obviously. But I think that you've got, first of all, two
legit playoff type teams in Oklahoma and Iowa State. And then I think they go six, maybe even
seven deep of teams that I could see being in the top 25. And I can't say that even about
the Big Ten, to be honest. True. I mean, you look again, and this is kind of one of those years where
a lot of teams have a lot coming back as well. You've heard the Iowa State love in the Big 12,
Iowa State getting a ton of love. We'll see how that goes. Should be a great matchup when they
play, but going to the second matchup, Clemson and Ohio State, using the little deductive
reasoning skills that I have, Stuart, I'm guessing since you have Clemson and Bammon there,
do you think Clemson beats Georgia week one? Are we too early to make that prognostication?
I do think Clemson beats Georgia week one. It was more of a coin flip game to me until the
injuries started to affect Georgia a little bit. But it's not really that I have anything
against Georgia. I just, the closer it gets, the more I'm just really high on Clumps.
and they're my national champion pick.
We've seen, we haven't seen a lot of their quarterback,
but we've seen enough to know he's going to be really special.
And I can't, you know,
you can't emphasize enough how important it was to get Justin Ross back,
who missed all the last season,
and it wasn't necessarily clear he was going to be able to play again.
That's an All-American receiver that suddenly is back in the picture.
You've heard a lot of good things about their freshman running back Will Schipley.
He was a five-star recruit.
I don't know that he'll be.
their primary guy right away
but certainly helps with that.
And then so much back experience
on defense and we'll see if
that Ohio State game, that performance
was an aberration or a sign of
some
cracks in Brent Venable's defense, I don't think it will be.
Well, you look at that game, I mean, Georgia
loses a George, excuse me, Georgia loses a
George, Clemson Gaines-A-Ross.
It's like a plot to a friend's episode
when you look at it now. But, Stuart,
I do want to ask
you again we're here with Stuart Mandel Blaine. Let's get a couple questions from the chat
ready before we have to let Stewart go. But the alliance, you know I couldn't bring you in here
without asking about the alliance facing the Klingons and the SEC and Thanos for interstellar
domination in some Marvel movie 12 years from now. But when you look at what's going on,
do you think this is going to push the expansion of the playoff back? And if so,
that just seems self- it's self-harm to me for the conferences.
outside the SEC, but maybe I'm crazy.
I mean, I think
yes, I think it's probably
going to pump the brakes on playoff expansion.
Not to say that it couldn't happen
before 2026, but
there was a, when
I was covering the meetings in the
spring, I really came away from it
feeling like that September
28th meeting that's coming up, they were going to
rubber stamp it. And that's just not going to happen.
A part of it is there's just
been such a shakeup in
the leadership where Jim Phillips just became
the ACC commissioner earlier this year.
George Cleophoff has been there for a couple months at the PAC 12,
and even Kevin Warren is still relatively new.
So the sense I get from that group of alliance conferences
is they don't want to speed rush this thing to get it done earlier
and that they feel like from a business perspective,
and this is particularly true with Warren and Cleofkov,
who come from non-college backgrounds,
that you would be leaving a lot of money on the table
to just automatically extend it with the SPN rather than bringing it to market.
But I think you make a good point.
For the PAC 12 in particular, can they really afford to wait five years for this playoff to expand?
If their teams keep missing the four-team playoff, they're already losing all the best quarterbacks on the West Coast.
Those guys are, you know, the starting quarterbacks at Alabama and Clemson now and Ohio State are from the West Coast, Oklahoma from Arizona.
if they elect to push this back,
they better really cross their fingers
that Oregon is going to emerge
as the next national power,
or USC is going to get it going again
because they need to start making the 14th playoff.
Yeah, I just look at it and, you know,
I can understand a little bit about the schematics of it,
but from a macro level, it just doesn't make sense to me.
But Stuart Mandel here, we got some questions from the chat for two
before we got a lot.
We've got one in a week one.
What are who do you think?
is going to be the difference for Clemson to get that win over Georgia week one.
Stuart, you're served.
You're served.
Yeah.
I mean, if you look at Georgia last year and frankly the last few years, they win most of their games.
When they lose, it's been against a Joe Burrow, Mack Jones and Kyle Trask last year, just those elite quarterbacks.
And I do feel like DJ is going to be one of those guys.
Doesn't mean that they can't frazzle him and cause him to make some mistakes.
I do think he probably has a higher ceiling, frankly, than J.T. Daniels does, even though J.T. Daniels himself is pretty good.
Blaine, I'm going to go, I'm going to counter that with why I think Georgia wins the game. There, I said it, haven't given the spread yet, but I think Georgia wins it.
I am still not sold on Clemson's offensive line. I'm not. DJ, because again, we're comparing, and if we compare J.T. and D.J., it's amazing. We're just, you know, using these nicknames, but everybody says J.T. has a lot to prove.
still after throwing 119 passes last year and I get it.
DJ to me still has a lot to prove.
I mean, going against a Notre Dame defense that I thought was good.
I went and put him elite.
I'm interested to see how he does against this Georgia pass rush, how he does with a guy like
Nekobi Dean in the middle.
But the matchup that I am the most excited to see in this, speaking of Nekobi
Dean is the battles between the Mike linebackers.
Nekobi Dean and Skalski.
Not that they're going to go head up or we'd have a crazy alien-type situation going on in the game.
But whichever one of those guys controls the game better from in the middle, we can talk about the quarterbacks.
I'm looking at the quarterbacks of the defense.
Do we got any more in the chat, Blaine?
Mostly comments, that's about it.
Nice.
Well, Stewart, before I let you go, I do have one more question for you.
When we do go to an expanded playoff eventually, if it's 2026, 27, whenever,
how does this affect the other bowl games?
Are they just going to basically grandfather in the other bowl games, kind of the way they did in the four now?
Do you have any idea on that?
Because to me, that's a very interesting question.
And I know they're already going to have an answer for that question before they do it.
Yeah, the format that was proposed in the spring had bowl games hosting the quarterfinals,
which caused a lot of – I know my colleague Andy Staples hated that,
and a lot of other sports writers were up in arms.
But I don't get the sense that the actual conferences or have any –
problem with it. So I do think that will go forward and theoretically or you would think that
that would mean that the six current New Year's six bowls would be part of that. Where I think it's
going to, but I think the effect after that, I mean those six, if it's those six are going to be
in frankly better position than they are now, right? Right now two out of every three years,
they're seen as a consolation prize. But beyond that, everything from the citrus bowl,
outback bow, Alamo Bowl, whatever you want to name it, I mean, they're going to be the
NIT. There's just no way to sugarcoat that. I just don't see, you know, I don't see a Florida,
right, caring at all about those games when they consider themselves a program that should
make the playoff most years. And I think that the fact that the, that these mostly traditionalist
powers that be are ready to make such a radical.
move, in part is just a recognition that that's where we are, right? Last year you had,
I know it was unusual circumstances, but you had teams opt out of the bowl season entirely.
You know, first it was players, now as whole teams and just a recognition of those games,
which were, in some cases have been around decades and decades just aren't seen as all that
important by today's teams and players. No, I agree. And that explanation makes a ton of sense
to me. I was wondering which way it's going to go in again.
We never really know at the end of the day, but at least
there's a guiding light. Speaking about a guiding light,
Stuart, you have been a guiding light. Really
appreciate you. Everybody can find
Stewart. He's the editor-in-chief of the athletic.
Got some great stuff. Where can they find the bowl
projections? I know you guys put all of them today.
Bowl projections, yeah, just, well, first of all,
my Twitter feed, S.L. Mandel.
But if you go to the athletic, and by the way, we have a
50% off sale at the athletic right now,
so take advantage of that. And you'll
find ball projections right at the top of the college
football page.
Awesome.
Stuart,
I appreciate it, buddy.
Let's do this again.
All right.
Thanks for having me.
All right.
Great stuff there.
Great.
Like Stuart a lot.
Oh, Stuart's the best.
Hey, I made that poll earlier.
All right.
So this is what we got.
Who has the best chance to beat Alabama?
Miami got 4%.
How they got 4%.
Ret may be watching.
Ret may be in the chat.
A&M got 37%.
LSU got 29% and other got 31%.
Really?
That's kind of thought.
Yeah, it's pretty evened out.
I like that.
I like that.
Look, I'm just telling you right now, Miami has no shot.
But some big news today as we transition, you know, if you haven't heard Cam Newton was released by the Patriots, something that a lot of things went into this.
You know, you can talk about the vaccine stuff.
You can talk about Cam's kind of off the field stuff, the injuries, production on the field, and this, that, and the other.
And I truly believe when I look at it that Cam Newton's probably done.
done. Probably done. Not that he's not going to be picked up by another team, which I don't think
he'll be picked up until game start and stuff like that. But as far as being a big time guy in
the NFL and a guy that you can pencil in as the starter at a lot of places, I just think the course
is run. And I hate to say that. And I don't want to hinge and hang on the fact that I think he
has done, I think we need to remember how great he was in college. And we're going to put up
our top five SEC players since 2000. And number one on that list for me is Cam Newton. He is the
most dominant college football player I have ever seen. And if you look right there,
Cam Newton, number one, Tim Tebow, number two.
Joe Burrow, number three.
And look, there's going to have to be a decent amount of quarterbacks in here, guys.
That's just how it is.
Darren McFadden, number four.
Still to me, if I had to take one since 2000 at running back, I'm taking McFadden.
You can have Henrik.
You can have Derek Henry.
He was that different.
He was that different.
And then I got to throw a defensive guy on here, the Honey Badger, Tyrone Matthew.
I mean, that's
But you're going to get a big argument
because again, this is college, okay?
This isn't even where they were drafted.
Cam number one or all.
And an MVP.
Yeah, that's true.
That's true.
But this is about what they did in college.
A lot of people will say Tim Tebow,
why got some numbers here for you?
Because a lot depends on what you have around you
to me when making this list.
list.
Tim Tebow, off the team that won it in 2009, you can correct me if I'm wrong, that draft,
after they won it, they had nine players drafted.
Off that team since I think, 08 through what, 11, some like that, they had 19 players
drafted.
To put that in perspective, from the 2010 Auburn National Championship team, they had
four.
That's one, including Cam Newton, so you really had three.
And if you watch that Auburn team, it was Cam Newton and Nick Fairley and a bunch of supporting actors.
Not that they were bad players, but you take Cam Newton and leave Nick Fairley on that Auburn team, they may be eight and five.
At best.
at best. I'm just telling you.
And Tim Tebow was an amazing college player.
So let me push back on this here a little bit, or at least ask you to expand on a few things.
So two things specifically.
One, you know, Cam and Joe Burrow had one perfect season.
I mean, those seasons were perfect than they had.
Is it better to have one perfect season, or is it better to have multiple near-perfect?
seasons because when I think from a quarterback perspective, some of the things that Tua, Tunga Vailoa did, are just phenomenal.
Yeah, Tua was a great player.
Amazing, you know.
And so, you know, so that's what I want to know is one perfect season, which I think they both had better than multiple near perfect seasons.
And two, do you think what Mack Jones did at Alabama after Tua took some of his shine away?
Okay, to start with your first one, to me, I am looking at who was the most dominant.
And the requirement is one full year.
Now you say, what's better?
One perfect year and I'm out or a near perfect year.
Let me ask you this.
Pull any pitcher in the world.
Would you rather throw one perfect game in the major leagues or just have a bunch of really good games?
Which one is more memorable?
I think it's a valid question.
I mean, the same thing with bands.
It is.
It is.
It is.
It is.
It is. better to be like a one-hit wonder and that one-hit,
by every single person who's ever lived,
or you have a dozen albums that are all kind of awesome.
I don't know.
I mean, I'm just...
Well, again, when you're looking at it to me,
if we're saying the most dominating
and your minimum requirement is one year,
and again, Tebow was great for three years.
McFadden was great for three years.
You don't remember who was behind Tebow in Florida.
Yeah, I mean, that quarterback room was unbelievably loaded.
But what Cam, when we say you were the team, in football, it is so hard for one guy to dominate as much as he did.
He was automatic on third and short.
Jaw dropping.
Jaw dropping.
And there's really nothing that you could do outside of hoping the bus broke down to stop him either on the way or during the game.
And it's hard to sit here in comparison.
stats because one year you can say okay well Tebow leads the SEC in all-time
touchdowns well what if if Cam Newton here's a question for you come back at it
if Cam Newton was at Auburn for three years how many national championships you
think they went five no I'm just I mean like the things I saw him do that was my first
season after I got done playing and I'm not someone who's easily shocked and it was jaw
dropping you know and I do agree that it is more those
that perfect season versus near perfect season competition, it is a lot more memorable.
You know what people are going to remember what Joe Burrow did for a long, long time.
And what Cam did.
I mean, when you do that kind of stuff, it just, it does mean something to a lot of people.
Well, too, Joe Burrow had, and Joe was fantastic, but Joe Burrow had studs all around him.
And had multiple seasons there when he didn't perform like he did that one.
True.
Well, he was a trans.
and went through all that, but you had
Jamar Chase.
You had Clyde.
Jeff, George.
I mean.
I think that was Devin.
You had Justin Jefferson.
You, man, you had, you were loaded.
They were, and again, that defense wasn't super elite,
but that offense is all over the league right now.
I think if you put Tim Tebow on the Cam Newton's team,
Tim Tebow wouldn't win a national championship in Auburn.
No.
Tim Tebow never beat Auburn.
Yeah.
Tim Tebow lost a Cody.
Burns.
The receiver.
The receiver.
And the 2008 Michigan team.
Oh, there's the Michigan.
Here we go.
Touch the poster.
Actually, not to get ahead of ourselves, but I actually got DP here in the...
Oh, Pollock's already in.
Oh, I don't know when you want to...
Here, let's...
Oh, bring DP on right here.
Bring DP on there.
Let me get DP in here.
Yeah.
Get some questions ready in the chat.
I want to hear what Paul.
One last look here at this.
Yep.
Put in your memory blank.
get quilted in there.
All right, let's bring D.P.
David Pollack, what's up?
What up, Jay Boy?
Hey, man, I got that in the intro, man.
It's killer. It's my favorite part of the intro.
Look, I'm going to get, we're going to talk some Georgia Clemson, some LSU, UCLA,
but I mean, if you had to pick DP, the most dominant SEC player, and I know I'm putting you
on the spot here real quick, but since 2000, is it Cam Newton to you?
It ain't close, bro.
It ain't close.
I mean, he's just, he's just, by the way, if you just go meet him one time and spend some time near him,
what you fail to realize is he's almost 6'6 and 245 pounds and was running by people, around people, through people.
Freak show.
Yeah, just unbelievable.
And I know there's a lot of names you could throw in that list.
And recently, Joe Burroughs right up there.
Tebow, I think if you have all those weapons around you, I think it changes.
his level of dominance with Percy Harvard and those guys.
But Cam took a squad that nobody thought could do what they did
and ran the table and said,
everybody sit down and shut up,
including Alabama,
who was loaded at every position.
So Cam,
ironically,
obviously,
maybe this is why it came up,
but getting cut today.
But he was the most physical dominant force I've ever seen.
Yeah,
he's unbelievable.
So we got that David Pollock stamped,
write that one down.
That one's David Pollock Stamp.
DP, number one, I appreciate you joining us.
It's funny right now.
ESPN's setting up for SEC Nation right to the right of us here at the College Football Hall of Fame.
But got to talk about this Georgia Clemson game, man.
Because to me, it is one of the best opening games that I have seen in a minute.
And there's some really good ones starting here in week one.
What's just your feeling off the top when you look at this game, where we sit today on Tuesday?
I think this game is going to be a lot more throwback to games.
were used to in the past.
This is a throwback series, by the way.
This is a series that used to play back in the 80s
that used to mean something to a lot of people.
The offensive explosion we've seen over the years,
it's going to be hard, man,
because you've got two younger quarterbacks
that are less experienced going against grown freaking men up front.
I mean, you're talking about putting your hands on people.
Like, go look at Jordan Davis.
I mean, he was at the golf tournament this year, Jay Boy.
He was, I literally, I am a big person, 6, 3, 6, 4, 250 pounds.
He shows up, and I felt like I was a little child.
Like, he literally is 6, 7, 6, 8, 340, depending on what homeboy have for breakfast.
That's true.
I mean, just a grown-up with Washington and Trayvion Walker and those guys up front.
And by the way, I say that about Georgia.
And then you go turn on the tape and you watch Brian Brussie and Miles Murphy.
And Xavier Thomas, who's never quite lived up to the billing, but has a ton of potential.
You're talking about some guys up front that can make your life heck.
So I think, I just think about defensive line versus offensive line.
Which one's the biggest mismatch?
You know, losing, I think Clemson losing Carmen is a big deal from a year ago.
I think losing Trevor Lawrence's feet.
This is what I'm most interested to see.
To me, DJ O'Iunga Laleigh is Josh Allen.
That's his come.
Okay.
He looks like him.
he moves, he kind of moves like him.
He's got a hose like him.
He's got one of the best arms in all of college.
When he throws a post, by the way, 80% of guys who throw posts in college football,
it winds up on the other side of the goal post.
This dude just spins it on a line.
I mean, just splits your safeties and makes it look so, so easy.
So his, but his running ability, I don't think it's like Deshaun.
It's like Trevor.
God, we just keep this list and name after name at the quarterback spot for
Clemson is ridiculous, but just not as fast. So when they do run all that counter game and they get
in the red area and they use the quarterback to run the football, I don't think he's going to be as
dynamic. So I don't think the offense in turn will be as dynamic as we've seen. So I think
great defense, great defensive lines, can either offensive line give their QB time to make big
plays and give to all the playmakers that both sides have? Without a doubt, I mean,
Clemson is basically an SEC team. They really are the way they've recruited. They're built like
an SEC team. They really are.
And I think you bring up a great point,
DP. And my question
to you is, because I've been thinking about this, man,
and you're going to love this one, you're going to dig this one.
Schematically, if you were the
D.C. for either team,
looking at it, knowing, going
in, you feel like you have an advantage up front
at least, you know, from a week one
standpoint. Are you playing more
base and letting those four guys
get after it? You know, if you
want a two-gap, seeing if that works,
are you putting some pressure on
some of these young quarterbacks because the coach of me wants to play base.
I want to fill you out.
I want to play a game of show me yours.
I'll show you mine.
But you have that other part where, you know, bringing, you know, bringing that short
side corner blitz, you know, doing some things to put some pressure on these young guys
early in such a big game may yield you a turnover.
How would you play that?
You can't do anything.
You can't do anything in the whole game, right?
True.
But if I'm going against DJ and his ability to throw the football, I got to take away the quick stuff.
I got to take away the screens.
Last year, this is why I'm so interested to watch Clemson's offense.
Their best offense with DJ was throwing the ball at Travis E.N. in the flat.
And I think Will Shipley's going to be a great playmaker.
He'll be a freshman that everybody will know about at the end of the season, but probably not week one.
You know, he's probably not going to be in that mold where you want him to be.
and he's not going to be that big of a playmaker.
So I think is like I'm taking away the perimeter stuff.
I'm taking away the screen game.
I'm taking away all of that stuff as best I can.
And I'm going to two gap up front.
I'm going to eat him up with my two gap,
all my big bodies I got up front if I'm Georgia.
I'm going to keep DJ in the pocket, by the way.
Because if you watch him a year ago,
he was by far not to run, but more comfortable.
His mechanics were better.
He was more fluid outside the,
pocket. And young quarterbacks usually are. It kind of settles them down. It cuts the field
in half. I'm doubling Justin Ross a lot, by the way. For sure.
That freak is aoid. Remember what he did to Bama a couple years ago in the championship game.
So I'm definitely taking away all that stuff. Now, with Georgia, I think Clemson can be who they are.
They can be, they can be aggressive. They can play man coverage. This Georgia team is not what it's,
what it was projected to be. And it's going to take time to get there. And I say that because
Darnel Washington's not playing.
George Pickens is gone
You know, Kierce Jackson's been banged up
Like this is literally a group that
Eric Gilbert, by the way, will never suit up for George
He'll never suit up in a Georgia. I said it.
I got burned up on Twitter.
I said it, but everybody freaked out.
I don't think it's going to happen.
I don't think he'll ever suit up in a college uniform, period.
I just don't see it happening.
So you look at the strength and all these weapons
that we were like, bro, how are you going to cover
Pickens and Washington and Gilbert?
Now you've kind of shrunk that down.
But, you know, the cat and mouse came because I'm just telling you, you watch Venables.
They want to be in the perfect defense every single play.
And they're going to look to the sideline.
And when you make an adjustment, they're going to try to make an adjustment.
I'm going no huddle.
I'm going sugar huddle.
I love what Ohio State did.
They lined up exactly neutral.
And then they put their tight end right behind the quarterback, signaled their play.
Motion the tight end, ran the play.
Like that's the kind of stuff.
I'm not letting them get in their great stuff,
and I'm not allowing them to get in the perfect defense.
I'm going to make them communicate.
I'm going to take shots against Clemson.
They're going to be super, super aggressive.
Ariens Smith is a name to know for Georgia.
This dude doesn't have speed.
This dude's got stupid speed.
He didn't get to play last year because of his knee injury,
and he sat up.
Just go turn on the Cincinnati tape.
When he comes in the game,
he runs by a Cincinnati.
Cincinnati corners like it was me and you dude it was yeah there's seven yards and JT has him
wide open and he under throws him I mean Aaron Smith literally sitting there waiting on the
ball for four seconds like a like a fair catch on a punt I mean he's a weapon he ran a 10 he ran a 10
1 at NCAA turn at the NCAA tournament this past year a 10 1 that's X-Men fast so that's like
professor Xavier wheels himself in there to talk to him after a position meeting fast yes but
but you talk about you know waddle and rugs and having a guy that you can
can do something like that with and run those overroutes, run the goes, get him the football
quickly and let them, you know, make damage. So listen, I think they're different plans.
But, man, I want to see how JT is. I want to see if he is an upper echelon quarterback or if he's
really good. And we might find that week one out after Clemson.
For sure. And I want to move on because that's going to be a hell of a game, man. And I know
me and you'll be talking about in the future. But another one, and UCLA played this past week
against Hawaii and looked great, even though Hawaii, to me, basically showed up and Todd Graham just yelled at everybody on the sideline for a while.
They looked so bad.
And again, you know, got to give props to UCLA.
I'm not going to sit up here and say it was all Hawaii.
But this LSU UCLA game, DP, to me, is delicious.
And everybody's thinking all these points are going to be scored.
I'm looking at this, and I think it's going to be a little bit of a slug fest early.
How are you kind of seeing this just off the cuff?
You know, watching the Hawaii game, I watched the whole thing last night and I was kind of like, is Hawaii that bad? Is UCLA really good? I'm trying to find the fine line between it. But here's one thing I do know. Dorian Thompson Robinson, he didn't show me enough to make me feel overesthetic or overconfident about UCLA. I think he's a really, really good athlete. He's number one. He's smooth. When he runs the third.
He's really dynamic.
But if you're talking about, you know, just dropping back, reading the defense with poise and delivering the ball downfield accurate.
I mean, his 44-yard touchdown in the third quarter, it was a go route that he under threw.
And the guy actually came underneath the DB and caught it.
So you know that's really bad placement for deep ball purposes.
Yeah.
But they got, I tell you what, Charbonnet, though, Zach Charbonnet from Michigan who transferred over.
Good Lord.
He ran physical.
Britton Brown ran physical.
I think they're good.
I think they're good up front and the QB run game can keep a minute.
But here's the thing, dude.
What about LSU, J, boy?
Like, what do I expect them to be?
Like, I trust Max Johnson.
I think Max Johnson is a stud.
I think he's made of the right stuff.
But LSU, like, I could see them.
If I close my eyes and I go, and you told me right now, you go,
LSU is a top 10 team at the end of the season.
I'd be like, okay, I believe you.
I can see it.
If I close my eyes and you said LSU's,
Not in the top 25.
I'd be like, okay, I believe you.
I just, I don't know, I don't know which way they'll go.
You know, Rick's and Stingley should be the best two corner,
one two punch, a corner in the country.
But last year, it's still in my brain.
It's still stuck in there about how bad they were defensively
with so much really good talent.
You change coordinators on both sides of the ball.
They better be the right guys or else that O is going to be in some heat probably.
No, that's true.
and I agree with you.
I mean, I look at LSU.
They're one of the top three unknowns in college football.
You talk about the highest ceiling and the lowest floor combined at once to me,
and I will firmly believe this.
I think Orjohn is an unbelievable motivator.
I think they're pissed off from last year,
but early in that game, early in that game,
because the thing I got from LSU last year wasn't just missing assignments,
you know, going the wrong way, doing things like that.
They kind of gave up in games if you watched them.
and, you know, that is fixable.
You have an offseason, but if it goes bad early, and I said this early in the week,
if UCLA marches down there and scores and then gets a stop and they're up 10 to nothing,
which LSU are we going to see?
Are we going to see them circle the wagons and say, not this year, boys, let's get it going?
Are we going to start to see that head go down a little bit, that lip go down a little bit
that we saw last year in a, oh, here we go again type deal,
because all the stuff outside that has gone on at LSU,
from an off-the-field standpoint.
It's amazing how that can bring a group together,
but if it doesn't go good early,
that's what I'm looking for, DP.
I really think that's a big deal.
And you've been in that locker room.
At momentum is a real thing.
And if you can win the locker room,
you're going to win a lot of games.
Well, and you want something good to happen early, too,
to help Indiana last year.
If Penn State, if the Michael Pennix Jr.
play doesn't happen, do they end up the same team?
Maybe, maybe not.
But, you know, they gave them a reason to believe.
So you're always looking for that.
But I think Max Johnson mentally, I think he's, you know, his dad's Brad Johnson, obviously
Super winning quarterback.
But he's from right in this area.
And he's just, I think he's made of the right stuff.
I think he's tough.
He's got enough athleticism.
I think LSU's offense will be good because of it.
And you just can't be that talented defensively and be that undiscipline.
It's not going to happen again.
There's no way.
So I'm going to bet on the bounce back versus the out of the top 25 like they were a year ago.
I agree.
I got to finish second in the West.
Blaine.
Tell me one question from the chat.
We're going to get together.
I've got a question here from Pat Gunther.
He said, what are D.P.'s key to UGA beating Clemson on Saturday?
D.P.
I'll let you handle that one, just a few off the top.
Well, I think that they've got to find a way to run the football.
And that sounds cliche.
It sounds stupid.
It's true.
You've got to find a way to manufacture it.
And I think Milton will be a breakout guy for this Georgia offense.
Listen, I know Cook and Samir White, and there's plenty of options, but Milton is, I think, I
think he's special. I think he's different, but they got to find a way to have some balance in that
offense and not let JT drop back to pass with those freaks trying to rush the passers. So
offensively, running the football first. And listen, I think that if I look at Munkin, Munkin was really
good a year ago. You can't judge him strictly on the numbers. He was playing with J-Boy
at quarterback for part of the season. Don't recommend it. There was a lot of ups and down. So I think
that he did a really good job. And then defensively, you know, what can you do to stop Justin Ross,
stop the perimeter stuff, stop the quick stuff. But you better man up. I think you're down a bunch
of guys physically, you better own the line of scrimmage. You better own it up front on both sides
or else Clemson's going to make it a long day. For sure. David, you're always money, man.
Appreciate it. Can't wait to watch you this weekend, my friend. Tell everybody where they can find you
on social media as well before we let you out of here. David Pollock 47 on Twitter. That's all you
I ain't real good at it either.
No, it's that easy. No, man, I appreciate it, my friend.
Let's do this again very soon. Good luck this week and on all the stuff. Can't wait to watch you.
See, brother. Congratulations on all the success, man.
Hey, coming from you, that means a lot, man. Real recognized real. We're going to get DP back in here a lot, man. I'm going to bother him to come on the show a lot, man. Stay safe out there.
Peace.
All right. That was our guy right there. I love Pollock, man.
How can you not? What's not to love?
How can you not like Paul? Even if you don't agree, like, how can you not like, first of all, the, the,
The guy was a beast on the field.
Oh, absolutely.
Dog.
I could put him in the top 10, top 15 SEC players since 2000 and not be wrong.
For sure not.
I mean, he's what, three-time All-American?
I believe so, yeah.
Dude was a stud, but unreal.
Appreciate Paul, get in here now.
Now for all you betters out there.
That's right.
We got a little something for you.
We keep getting blown up on social, especially after last week outside of Blaine,
who let everybody down with his New Mexico.
state pick, but that's neither here nor there.
Two touchdowns and a field goal got
called back. Two of them. That's 20
points. Can you put the camera on Cone?
I cover. Put it on Blaine. Put the camera on
Blaine. I just want everybody in
America to watch you make excuses for being
wrong. That's fine. Long season. We'll see.
We will. A lot of barking early. We'll see.
We'll see. We'll see. Hey,
while we got the camera on me,
let me go ahead and hit this poll, I'll put up.
Hit it. All right. Who's the best SEC player since
2000? It was super close, guys.
super close we have other coming at a 14%
Joe Burrow coming in at 17%
Tim Tebow
coming in at 8% Cam Newton coming in at 65%
Yeah I was that to say listen everybody's in agreement here
Let's not beat around the bush
All right let's let's not beat around the bush
The dude was unreal all right so
We're getting into our SEC win totals over and unders here
Okay so make sure you got a fan duel
however you get down
and these are church
coming from me now
we've got some
some ones on the exterior
I'm going to start
feel best about
LSU over eight wins
I have not felt better
about a team
win total
than I do about this
LSU
over eight wins
when you look at the schedule
Blaine pull up the schedule
real quick
while we got it up
let's put it up
oh you got it right here
hit me with it
just roll through it
I'm going to give you
LA
state central
Michigan, Mississippi State.
I should have looked at this closer with my big.
That's four.
Auburn.
That's five.
At Kentucky.
Florida, at Ole Miss, then at Alabama Week 10.
Okay.
Arkansas, Louisiana Monroe, and ending with Texas A&M.
That's at least nine.
It's at least nine.
It's at least nine.
And again, I'm telling you, LSU and we talked about it, at the end of the day,
I think LSU finishes second in the West.
And I know my A&M,
fans and buddies
hate when I say this, but I think they
tie with A&M after
beating them the last regular
game of the season. It's very
possible. I think L.C. walks UCLA.
I think that I'm starting
I'm starting to feel that
way too, man. I just, if you go back
and Pollock was even talking about, the
QB is such a big deal because you
underthrow that ball against LSU,
Eli Ricks
makes a pick and turns it into
six. So do you think that
LSU is even in a better position.
I know if you're coach,
oh, you would rather have two great
quarterbacks than just one.
But do you think it's almost better
that they went ahead and were forced
to take a pick in the middle of camp
and they're going with Max Johnson?
Okay.
And we talked about this a little bit.
To me,
naming the starter early is good.
Like what Jimbo did for Haynes King is good.
Let's not have any confusion going in.
You're the guy.
You're going to get most of the first team reps.
Calado get the second team reps.
but the way you call plays, it affects it.
I don't care what they come out and say.
When your backup goes down and your other backup transferred
and now you're stuck with a young guy,
even though I love Nussmeyer's ceiling,
that changes the way you call plays,
especially in the red zone with the quarterback,
because that is where you really get weird
with the quarterback run game in the red zone
because you're trying to make up for a shrinking field.
It's always a numbers game,
but now it's a numbers and tight space game.
And like I said, football is like life.
It's a game of momentum and angles.
So I would much rather have a backup
and then name him the starter
and have to deal with a little bit of drama
from the backup or whatever
than have him go down,
because this is a good question,
then have him go down
and then not, you know, not have an idea.
All right, let's get to feel good about.
Feel good about Florida under nine wins.
Okay, and I know that this war between me and the Florida fans have gone on.
And Blaine, call it the schedule and do it so that I'm going to tell you what's going to happen.
All right.
Hit me with it.
Game one.
We have Florida Atlantic at home.
When?
Game two, South Florida on the road.
When?
Game three, good luck, Bama at home.
Loss.
Game four, we got Tennessee at home.
Win.
Game five, the showdown at Kentucky.
That's an L.
Game six, Vanderbilt at home.
That's a win.
All right, game seven, LSU on the road.
Loss.
Game eight, Georgia at home.
That's an L.
Game nine, Salkland on the road.
Win.
Then we got Sanford at home.
When?
You're on the road at Missouri.
I'll give them a win on that.
One of the Missouri and Kentucky games, so I'll give them a win on one of those.
Then you got Florida.
stayed at home. Okay. Let's say you win that one. That's eight. It's winter, winter,
chicken dinner. It's winner, winter, winter chicken dinner. I feel really good. I could put Florida
if I wanted to in the feel best if I really wanted to. Those are two good ones. Those are
two good ones. And take a shot. Surprise Kentucky over seven wins. Take them. I don't see them winning
less than seven. And you'll get the, oh, the Kentucky hype. Oh, here we go again.
We going through it. New Sheriff in town.
Do you share from town.
Yeah, go through it real quick.
All right.
We got Laman Row at home.
Dub.
All right, you got Missouri at home.
Dub.
You got Chattanooga at home.
Choo-choo, dub.
Then you got South Carolina on the road.
Love you, Shane, but that's a dub.
Then you got the Gators at home.
We'll give, we'll, I'm giving them a win on that.
Okay.
Then you got LSU at home.
That's a loss.
You got Georgia on the road.
That's a loss.
Mississippi State on the road.
When?
The Valls at home.
When?
Vandy on the road.
When?
New Mexico State.
at home. There you go right there. That's nine. Then you got Kentucky Louisville at Louisville.
And you know what? At that point it doesn't matter. You were over seven wins long time ago.
Take a shot. Put some money on that.
Yeah. Put some money on that. I think those are three good ones. All right, Blaine.
What, which one are you diving? I am rolling with the rebels.
Here we go. Over seven and a half.
Barstool, Mincy is going to love that one. I believe in Kiffin. I believe they steal a game.
They're not supposed to, you know, just win eight games. I can see Ole Miss winning eight games.
I don't think that's out of the bad thing.
I'm not going to run through their schedule, but just trust me.
All right, I'm already seeing Fade Blaine's in the chat.
That's fine.
Yeah, that's fine.
Blaine's going to have more fades than a barbershop for this year's over with.
Trust me.
Ole Miss is going to win more than seven-and-half games.
All right.
Cone?
All right, so I got, you know, I took Alabama here over 11 and a half,
and I agreed with you a week ago, okay,
that I didn't think Alabama was going to win every regular season game,
which they would have to do for this, okay?
But I'm looking at the schedule.
I think they're a lock at 10, okay?
obviously Texas A&M and LSU give problems.
I don't think they lose both of those games.
Okay.
If they had LSU on the road, I think that would be more problematic,
but they have them in Tuscaloosa,
and I saw what it took for LSU to beat Alabama in 19 at home.
I was there.
It took a near perfect season from Joe Burrow in the gang, okay,
and Tua got hurt.
Okay, that's what it took that year.
And then, yeah, they go on the road to Texas A&M.
I think they could lose that game,
but let's just get to Nick Saven for a minute, okay?
because, you know, we talk about these coaches who are on the hot seat,
we talk about this coach is coaching for their job.
No one coaches for their job better than Nick Saban.
And he's the one coach who doesn't have to do it.
Every single week, it's like he coaches for his job.
Remember, you know, a couple years ago,
everybody wanted to be the first that was going to call Tom Brady's demise.
Remember we saw this for several years.
He's 40 now.
He doesn't have his not the same quarterback, this, this and that.
All he did was leave the program that he had won championships with for,
20 years and won at Tampa Bay.
Same thing with Nick Saban.
Everybody wants to be the one who says, well, this will be the first coach he loses
to.
We've done a couple segments on it, the first assistant coach that he loses to.
I'm just looking at it.
I'm like, I just don't know.
Who's going to do it?
I don't think you're crazy for picking him to go undefeated.
What I got of all that is you think Bill Belichick's a system coach.
No.
No, look.
What's wrong with that?
No, listen.
Would you have that many Super Bowls?
What can you even say against the guy that's like, yeah, that's true.
Must be a good system.
Remember, we did the system quarterback.
What's wrong with that?
Yeah.
You win.
Yeah, so it's why people call quarterback's game managers when every quarterback should be game manager.
I mean, 23 and 0 here against assistance, right, which we know.
Here's my question to you.
How high does this number have to go?
Okay, we talk about DiMaggio's hit street.
We talk about games played with Ripkin and Breckport.
How high does this number have to go before we're saying that it's the most impressive stat in sport?
I think it's already up there.
I don't think anybody's ever going to replicate that.
I don't think somebody's done that before.
And I don't think the way the sport's going that you're going to have that again.
It's an unbelievable number.
Now, you know, most records were made to be broken, but you're talking about the upper.
You're talking about Ripkin, Damage.
I mean, that's some upper echelon, you know, open the cupboard, open another cupboard.
I'm asking the question.
And look, he could still go this season.
He could still go to the SEC championship, lose against Kirby, which you've been saying.
Okay.
and not win the national title this year.
And this pick could still hold true
because I'm just saying for it not to,
someone would have to do something
no one's ever done before.
And I'm just saying we all love to bet against dynasties.
We love the underdog story.
I'm just saying I'm not going with it.
No, look, I don't think you're crazy.
And at the end of the day,
betting on Sabin is probably a smart bet.
Speaking about a smart bet,
it's a smart bet to check us out live every day
from 3 to 4 Eastern here
from the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
I appreciate you guys.
Do you want to give a shout?
Blaine, what's up?
Okay, I just, I had to get a comment from you on this.
Okay.
What's your comment on the whole Bishop Sycamore?
Thing we got going.
I got to know.
I want to know your take on it.
We're going to have a wacky sports segment because we got a couple,
including what's going on in South Carolina.
But look, at the end of the day, I feel bad for the kids.
And, you know, making them play two games in three days is ridiculous.
And talking about, it was like they were playing against their dads out there against
I am.
They basically were.
And there's a lot.
a blame to be to be put around but it's like I said I tweet out earlier who did it better
Bishop Sycamore or Danny Ocean they both pulled off unbelievable I don't know that's unbelievable
I'm just wondering what at what point the coach from Bishop Sycamore had to sprinkle lemon
juice on the back of the the Declaration of Independence to find out blow dryer yeah it's exactly right
when they had to figure out to get that game at ESPN but no we appreciate you guys make sure you
subscribed the volume YouTube channel the chat seemed like the chat was really good today
Blaine not going to get to a ton of questions day because Pollock was so good at it to keep him on.
Yeah, guys, you know, and I'm not getting greedy here when I'm saying this, but if you do throw a little
donation behind that question, bro, your question will automatically be asked.
Super chat.
It just makes everything a lot easier, you know what I'm saying?
So it's up to you, but y'all guys are awesome.
Keep it going, stay hot, man.
It's the only beginning.

It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
