The volume.
You know this, sir.
You know this, sir.
You don't.
Super Bowl.
Championship.
That should always be the expectation.
All right, man, that you go on here.
Welcome back to the Richard Sherman podcast.
I got a great guest for you guys, Kobe Bryant,
named after the late grade.
Kobe Bryant.
How are you?
I'm doing good, man.
It's track season for me and the kids,
so the kids perform well at the last meet, so I'm all doing.
That's what that matter for sure.
Mm-hmm.
So how are you feeling now?
You know, I've met you before your first season,
and now you didn't got your first season under your belt.
You've caught your rhythm.
at the end of last year, how you feel about the league and about everything?
I'm feeling great, you know, obviously, you know, the conversation that we had, you know,
and us working together as well, too.
But like you said, you know, that first year is always ups and downs, you know,
it's part of growth.
And then just how we finished this season, you know, I was pretty happy about it.
But obviously, there's always work to be done.
And then, you know, this off-season, I got a chance to spend time with a family.
You know, it's a way longer off-season than college.
And it's got a chance to just, you know,
kick my feet up a little bit and just relax.
Yeah, yeah.
The off season is definitely a lot different in college.
You're not getting killed.
And then when you're getting the OTAs, you're not panicked because you're not a rookie
no more.
You're not sitting there like, man, if I keep beating this rep, they cut me.
Right.
No, this is right.
Oh, your first year, boy.
So tell me about when things started to click for you because it looked like things
started to click, especially down the stretch.
You know, obviously you start to force fumbles throughout the year.
You had one game with like two or three of them things.
Yeah.
Like you said, it's just picking up, man.
you know, just getting my groove, you know, like at the beginning of the season, you know,
I was still trying to adjust, you know, going from the inside, you know, I used to always play
outside. So I was just still trying to get a hang of that. And then, you know, just having
conversations, like I say, with you shed, you know, Quandre, Jamal, all the older guys, you know,
just telling me just to play my game and have fun, you know, that was the biggest thing for me.
And then, you know, once that started happening, I feel like, you know, the plays were being made.
So what's your expectations for yourself going to this year?
Yeah, just be more confident.
you know, and then play, you know, me and a coach Scott actually used a term like the
crutch, you know, last year they understood it was my first year playing, playing nickel,
you know, so this time I'm able to do a lot bit more, you know, play a little bit more freely.
And like I said, just have more fun, man, that's the biggest thing.
Always, you know, make plays in the ball, you know.
Yeah, that's what it's about.
That's what it's about.
When you play fun, you play free, you show the best version of yourself every time.
Sure.
Who do you think you've been trying to model your game after, you know, I mean, coming out of college,
that you were freaking everything.
You won the Thorpe coming into the league.
You know, you've played outside corner predominantly in college,
and then they moved your inside.
So who have you been watching to kind of help you make that adjustment?
Honestly, you know, I might be a little biased because we grew up together.
But Marsha Lattermore, you know, I try to, you know, out of my game after him.
Obviously, Jaylon Ramsey as well, you know, some of guys, you know, even like even you, you know,
you're a lot taller to me too, but it's all good.
But, you know, it's just, you know, you guys set the bar for us.
And, you know, I always watch film and, you know, just try to allies myself after that and, you know, make the plays that you got made as well to.
Well, you had a great rookie year.
You know, Salt had a really good rookie year, made a Pro Bowl.
RIC had a really good year, you know, right there and made a Pro Bowl.
What do you think, you know, you've played with both of them?
What do you think makes them special?
I feel like they're both unique in their own ways, you know, obviously.
he reed, you know, tall, fast.
You know, he's definitely probably one of the fastest I've seen for sure.
And just with him having that short period of time of playing corner, he's still learning,
you know, as much as me as well, which is scary.
You know, that's for me.
And he's just a goofy guy, too, man.
You know, I have fun of playing with him.
And then the same thing versus Amad, you know, I don't call him soft anything.
I love it.
It's always going to be a mob for me.
But he's always been special.
And I remember when he first stepped on campus, you know,
I knew right away what type of guy who was going to be.
And we clicked right away, man, that's my little brother.
So I'm happy, you know, an honor to play with both of them.
You know, they definitely made me better players.
And it's been fun to play with both with those guys.
So throughout the season, you matched up with a lot of different receivers.
Who you think, you know, was the most fun matchup for you?
And who do you think, who are you looking forward to going up against the most?
Definitely last year, I would say Devonte Adams.
You know, obviously, I remember asking a question about him to you.
and, you know, you told him he different for short, which I understand, you know, it was fun.
You understand it now?
Yeah, it was fun, you know, going up against him and, and like I said, this year, I'm looking forward to going against, like, Cooper Cup.
You know, I know he's obviously top tier elite receiver, and he plays in a slot, too, you know, so I'm all up for competition, you know, going against the best for sure.
Yeah, yeah, it's a, Cooper is definitely a challenge, especially in that shot.
Super crafty, great as something is inside, outside.
slide releases.
You know, he's going to be a tough study.
You got to find the tricks of the trade.
But, yeah, I knew Devante was going to have your hands full with him.
I hope it's good.
You guys covered him well, but he still made the crazy catches.
He made a couple against Mike Jack.
Yeah, that's all you can do is play defense, man.
Next play.
Right.
That's all you can do.
Right.
But you guys got Bobby back.
Jamal's coming back.
Obviously, Kwanre's back, Reeks back.
got some additions on the D-line.
You guys got to feel good about that.
What have you, what has been your first impression of Bobby?
Because he was gone during your rookie year, but he's back now.
Man, I love Bobby.
You know, I was able to just to tap it up with him a little bit last year.
You know, we played in Rams twice.
You know, he showed love to me, which was, you know, a blessing, honestly.
You know, he didn't even have to do that, but he went out of his way to do that.
And he's just a leader, man.
You know, he has fun.
He jokes around a lot, too, man, you know, which caught me off guard.
I thought he was such a serious guy.
But him and Quasrege, bro, play around with me.
you know, a little bit too much.
You know, I had to tell the choir, they're like,
you gotta stop playing with you.
Those two my guys, man, they're definitely, you know,
big brothers to me as well.
They set the bar high for sure and great leaders.
And, you know, I'm excited to play with both of those guys.
Oh, don't worry.
When them lights cut on, you're going to see a different side of Bobby, you know.
I know.
You ain't playing with nobody.
I know it.
So tell me your first impressions of Pete, you know,
because I know everybody got their opinions going in,
you know, you hear all these stories,
but you spent a year with him
and you see how quirky is.
Yeah, for sure.
Hey, I love Coach Pete, man.
He's energetic.
You know, he's an older guy, obviously,
but he still has the same energy.
You know, I remember meeting with Coach Pete
at the combine last year.
I was actually nervous.
I'm usually never nervous for, like, interviews,
but I'm like, it's Pete.
Coach Pete is a legend.
And I just remember they put up all,
like, me getting beat on, like, my film.
And I'm just like, oh, man.
So I had to explain this.
And then, like, once I explained it,
he literally changed the subject
right away and just got to ask me like questions about life, baseball,
but just to show that he, you know, he's a great guy, man.
You know, he's, and he's a defensive bad guy as well, too.
So, you know, that made it a hundred times better.
And, you know, he's always there, you know, every time I need him.
And he's just been in my corner ever since, for sure.
What do you think he said, you know, was there anything he said to you throughout the season
while you're gaining your confidence?
You know, he's totally about the psychological aspect of the game that he said to you
that really kind of helped you, you know, get the wheels started?
Yeah, I actually remember, you know, after the first game we played the Broncos,
when I got beat, I gave up a touchdown, like, the second playoff event.
And he never lost confidence in me.
And then, you know, that next game I had to start because, you know,
J.C. had went down.
So I'm like, all right, I got to, you know, step the game up.
And he just swimmers in the side, you know, before that game.
And, like, you know, it's the reason why we picked you, you know, you're a great player.
He even talked about, like, my dad, he's like, you know, you have a great dad,
you know, always in your corner.
Like, we believe in, you know, you're a great player, make plays, you know, to do what you
do. And from that point on, like, you know, I just play my game and have fun.
And just to know that the head coach is behind you, it gives that much more confidence
in your play for sure. Yeah, you don't feel like you're out there worried about getting cut
every play. You're like, man, you don't snatch me up to this. You're like, he believe in me,
so I ain't worried about nothing but playing my game. That's a good move by him.

So what's the expectations for the team?
Obviously, Gino came, you know, everybody did.
know what they
to expect.
He coming off
a Pro Bowl year.
You got DK.
You got the rookies.
What is your
impression of the two rookies
that came in,
Smith and Jigba and Witherspoon?
Yeah, I actually like,
you know,
he just comes in,
you know, keeps his mouth closed
and just,
you know,
he's winning to work
and learn as well, too.
And actually I'm pretty close
with J.S.
Man, you know,
we actually go out of the E.
We chop it up
and always talk junk to him
because he went through Ohio State.
Right.
And I told him,
you know,
he would have did what he did
against us in Cincinnati,
man with me and I'm a lot.
Come on now, talk about it.
You know, you know, I got to.
But just those guys, man, they're great guys, man.
I tell you come from great families.
You know, we're all pretty close as well, too.
And, you know, we're opening arms.
You obviously got to work, but, you know, it's just a family at the end of the day.
You know, we all need to be on the same page, offense, defense, special team.
You know, we got one goal at the end of the year, you know, that's obviously we all know what it is.
But just taking that one step at the time, you know, just like last year,
A lot of people doubted it with the record, but, you know, we obviously don't care.
You know how it is.
You know, we all got each other, you know, that's all we need, honestly.
So that's the biggest thing for us, man.
Yeah, it's going to be a great year for you.
It's going to be a great year for the team.
I can't wait.
So this all season, you talked about it being longer than college.
What did you do this off season that made it so fun?
Yeah, I got a chance to kick it with, you know, my best friends a little bit, too.
You know, hang out a little bit.
You know, not too much, but, you know, spend some time with that.
You know, see my family, you know, for me, a very fan.
You know, my family is a big part of my success, you know, obviously with God first.
But just having my family in my corner and then, you know, spending a couple months with them,
you know, my mom always, my mom and dad always joking around.
I think, when am I going back to Seattle?
Because, you know, I'm still at their career right now.
But, you know, it's my love, man.
And just seeing my big brother, you know, I have two beautiful nieces, a guy son.
So, you know, just being around all the love is the best thing, honestly.
Yeah, yeah, it's a lot of fun.
You've been back to Cincinnati since?
Yeah, I'm actually here right now.
That's why I'm in this small room right now.
It looks like I'm on punishment or something right now.
How is that felt coming back?
You big man on campus, you're only in league.
Yeah, it's love here, man.
You know, I had to see, you know, the academic people.
They love me up here, you know, training staff, just everyone.
You know, it's a new coaching staff, but, you know, they even show them love as well, too.
And just to have, like you said, that love and, you know,
people notice of who I am on campus.
Definitely is a blessing, man.
that's what you work for.
Right, right.
That's exactly what you work for and, you know, you earn it.
So we talked about your name.
Did you ever get a chance to meet Kobe while, you know, while he was here?
Nope.
Never, never did.
You know, that was always going to be a dream come true for me.
You know, I'm usually never big with, like, photos or autographs or anything,
but he would have been the first one.
I would have had to do autograph and picture, you know,
I would have just told him, you know, I'm actually named after you.
That would have been a better feeling.
He would have done it.
Kobe was great, too, man.
I remember the first time I met it.
I met him at Nike, at a Nike shoot.
Yeah.
And he acted like he knew me and my brother for 10 years.
You know, we were just chopping it up.
And I'm like, this is just calling me.
My brother looking at each other just talk.
Like, just call me.
It's all love.
It's all love.
Yeah, it was great to see.
Then I invited him out to the softball game in Seattle.
He came out with his family.
It was super kind to everybody sitting there signing autographs for hours and hours to the point
where I was like security, like stop them.
You know what I mean?
Stop people from coming because he's not going to stop.
You know.
And he's like, yeah, I'm not tripping.
I'll sign, take pictures.
That's why I'm here.
And, yeah, it was such a, it was such a cool feeling because, you know, they always say don't meet the, you know, your heroes and stuff.
Right.
Right.
And he was everything you could ever ask for.
That's the best, bro.
That's the best, man.
Sure.
He was, it was cool.
So, so, Kobe got to be your goat.
You named after him.
He has to be a goat.
Definitely.
Definitely.
It's definitely him.
You know, LeBron, obviously.
I'm a big LeBron fan.
I was just talking with the guys earlier.
I wish he would have made it further.
You know, obviously going to go to the finals.
I'm always in his corner no matter what.
And I'm definitely, obviously, a Kobe fan.
Yeah, yeah, I'm a Lakers fan.
So, you know, I'm a Kobe for that,
but I got to be a LeBron fan right now.
No question, no mystery.
Yeah.
So I'm happy for you, man.
You got on any vacations yet, or you just been in the States?
No, I've just been in the States, man.
I actually haven't took any vacations, man.
I should have took a few other countries, man.
But I wait to have overseas, you know.
grind time now you know what it is.
Yeah, yeah, it's that time now. It's too late.
It's too late.
It's too late.
Yeah, yeah. Looking for next February sometime.
Late in the late February, early March.
Yeah, you'll be right there.
You know it.
For sure.
If you got any questions for me, you know, I'm always happy to answer.
Always. Yes, sir.
But I appreciate you joining me.
Appreciate you taking time out your day, out your workout coming on.
For sure.
Appreciate you. Appreciate you. I'll see you next time.
I'm going to hit you during the season and see if we can't get you back on.
You know it always.
All right, brother.
