Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Starting point is 00:02:12 Gambling problem. Call 1800 gambler. The volume. Welcome, welcome back to the Richard Sherman podcast. Mitchell. Parity. Parity is king again, Rich. I want to start.
Starting point is 00:02:31 obviously, I feel like it was we always have been. Your listener base is Seattle lovers, and they're surprising us week after week. Richard, they win again. How does this keep happening? Well, I mean, it's not by accident, Mitchell. They're running the ball well. Kenneth Walker, the third, is executing this offense.
Starting point is 00:02:51 Both of those rookie tackles, that offensive line in general was playing well. Gino, through a pick six, everybody thought the sky is falling. This is the Gino moment. This is where it all comes to fruition. It all ends the dream. All this. It's the old Gino. No, it's not.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Gino came to the sideline calm, cool, and collected, said, no, we got this. That's on me. Won't happen again. Led three 75 plus yard drives, all for touchdowns. It was beautiful. I certainly did not see this coming. I mean, we talked about at the beginning of the year. We figured, you know, maybe they could sniff 500.
Starting point is 00:03:28 but this has got a team that's looking like they could walk away with the division right now. If you're throwing some money on this at the beginning of the season, you could become a very wealthy man. But Seattle, six and three with a one and a half game lead now in the NFC West, the other team in this division that blew the game, blew their chance to try to keep up is the L.A. ramps. They've become disappointing week after week. Their defense keeps trying to hold them in games, but their offense sure looks like a shell of itself.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Richard, your boy, Tom Brady, got the big dub. How in the world does that happen? Well, it's touchdown Tom. He's going to get it done, and thankfully they turned things around. They got Seattle and Munich, Germany next week, so that'll be a great game. That's going to be interesting. I'm going to probably be up at 6 o'clock watching that one.
Starting point is 00:04:18 But it's sad for the Rams. Their offensive line is atrocious. They got walked through. Vita Baye had two sacks. Those guys were walking through their offensive line. even without Shat, it looked like the same kind of pressure on Matt Stafford. He only threw for 165. Most of his targets were the Cooper Cup, who had, I think, 127.
Starting point is 00:04:35 But it's like, that's not enough. If you take away two of Cooper Cup's longest passes, I think he threw 32 passes for 35 yards. And, I mean, that's not getting it done. People praised them for what he did last year. They're like, oh, Matt Stafford just needed a good team. He just needed a good organization and he thrived. Well, he's still on the same team, same organization. He is not thriving anymore.
Starting point is 00:04:55 This defense is getting stops. Those playmakers are making plays, and it's not getting the job done. And people are, they're like, oh, Sean McVeigh, Sean McVeis says there needs to be changes. There needs to be fixes. He's got to start with the offensive side of the ball, obviously. I don't know if it's the play calling. I don't know if it's, I mean, what you're going to do? You can't cheer up the offense line.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Nobody wanted to trade with the Rams. They wanted to give two first round picks for Brian Burns. They wanted to give up another pick. They wanted to give up picks for Christian McCaffrey. Nobody wanted to do business with the Rams this year. I wonder why. I don't, you know, hey, you won a Super Bowl, nobody wants to do business with you. Tough luck.
Starting point is 00:05:27 You've got to find another way to show up that offensive line because they are not going anywhere and they're not going anywhere fast if this offensive line keeps being as bad as they are. We talked about it at the beginning of the season on previous podcasts. I think the person I feel probably most sorry for over the last couple years of his career is Alan Robinson. Well, I know you've got a ton of respect for, but this guy just can't seem to catch a break. I mean, he's with Chicago. He's begging for the ball. He can't get it.
Starting point is 00:05:53 He figures he's going to go to warm weather in L.A. He's got golden boy Matthew Stafford slinging him to the rock. And not so much. I mean, this offense has the pieces. They just don't have the O line. And for those fans that are casual sports fans, casual football fans, this is what happens when you have a very, very subpar O line. Doesn't matter what offensive line, what offensive weapons you may have,
Starting point is 00:06:17 your offense is going to be atrocious. Yeah, but at the same time, we watched the, one of the worst offensive lines in Super Bowl history. And Joe Burroughs get sacked 12 times a game in the playoffs and still walked him to the Super Bowl. So this is a little bit on Matt Stafford. Matt Stafford has to find ways to get balls to other players. And he's not doing that.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Heepie's a good player. They got the back. Cam Acres came back. Alan Robinson, I mean, seemed to be productive when they were getting them to ball. But again, most of his targets go to Cooper Cup. And Cooper Cup is really productive. But that's not winning in ball games. He's throwing for 165.
Starting point is 00:06:49 165 yards is what you expect from a young quarterback who's developing. You're not expecting. that from a veteran, a veteran who's been in the league 14 years, who you expect, hey, you just want us to Super Bowl. You just helped get us to a Super Bowl. And right now, he's second in the league in interceptions, only has, I think, eight touchdown passes. That's not getting the job done. No, it is not. Richard, let's switch it out east. I don't know what is in the water out east, whether you're in the AFC East or the NFC East. Both of these divisions are just walking away with what seems to be the best divisions in football.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Every single team in the AFC East is now above 500. And we saw a really good competitive game in New York against with the Jets at home against the Buffalo Bills. And I think this is a wake-up call for the league that the Jets are a team that could make some noise come the end of this season. Richard, I know you love sauce. Talk to me about sauce.
Starting point is 00:07:45 I don't got to say nothing. Sauce is putting it on tape in the Big Apple. They said he was, you know, is he going to be ready for the big lights in the big city and all this? You know, he's the second quarterback taken. He looks like he should have been the first quarterback taken. People were saying, oh, he might be a reach at four. He's not looking like a reach at four. He's looking like he's changed the entire dynamic of this team of the city of this defense, along with Kwan Alexander, along with G.J.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Reid. Jordan Whitehead made a heck of a play last week. C.J. Mosley was all over the field. You got to give a Lamarcus Joyner. That's secondary. I mean, they're making a case to be one of the best secondaries in the league just from a playman. perspective. Every week you see a different guy getting an interception or multiple guys getting interceptions. They're turning the ball over at a high rate. Ulbri. The defense coordinator is doing a
Starting point is 00:08:28 great job. Quentin Williams said rush forward. They're rushing for. And Quentin Williams is getting home and looking like an all-pro candidate this year. Zach William Wilson is doing just enough, just enough for the city. They're running the ball well. And it's getting a job done, man. That's all you can ask. And people keep saying, oh, he was playing backup quarterbacks, up quarterbacks, back up quarterbacks. Then when he plays MVP candidate that quarterback against a very elite defense, like they're well-rounded team. They beat them and they control Josh Allen. He doesn't throw a touchdown pass. Those two interceptions. Like, this was not a fluky win. This was a very, this was a statement win and I'm happy for him. Yeah, I mean, Richard, and a not-so-crazy
Starting point is 00:09:10 hot take, I think a lot of GMs would probably pencil and sauce Gardner is a number one overall pick if they could redo this past draft. Richard, I think the most concerning thing, and a not so and concerning takeaway. And again, we addressed this in the past, but again, this is one of the most insane stats, I think, from the Buffalo Bills. The bills are two and seven in one score games since 2021. I mean, this is a team that has been dominant,
Starting point is 00:09:34 that has blown teams away, but in the close games, they just can't seem to figure it out. And you know better than anyone, when it comes to playing tight games in the playoffs, they've got to be able to figure out how to win. Is this a big concern for you? I think it should be a big concern for them.
Starting point is 00:09:50 You know, we'll see. Playoff football can change at any time. You know, people can get hot in the playoffs, but they better fix that because if it's because the quarterback's getting tight or the receivers are dropping passes or a coordinator is getting tight about his plate calling, then they're never going to make it to where they want to be. Because in the playoffs, it's going to be a tight game. It's going to be tight.
Starting point is 00:10:06 It's going to have to execute at the end. You're going to have a two-minute drill to win the game or to get a field goal. And if you can't execute that, you're going home. And last year, they executed it for, you know, with all due respect. They executed it. They just didn't get another possession in overtime. So we'll see. We got probably one of the most outrageous storylines over midway through this point in the season is something that we saw coming.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Aaron Rogers struggles again. The Green Bay Packers have now lost five in a row. The Packers scored nine points, Rich, against the worst defense in the NFL. My hometown, Detroit Lions, took it to Aaron Rogers. It's about time, baby. We all know the answer, but how does this happen? How is this remedied? Is there any hope for the Packers?
Starting point is 00:10:57 When you lose the amount of production and chemistry that Aaron Rogers and Devante Adams were beating a dead horse, but you're going to lose a lot of what they had. People were like, oh, it wasn't just Devante. It wasn't just Aaron. I mean, it was a lot of Devonte and Aaron. They can run a two-man game all the way to the NFC championship, and they did it for three or four years.
Starting point is 00:11:18 And Aaron got two MVP's. I think he got three since Devante's been there. And without Devante Adams, and these guys they have there, they are not a threat. There's not anybody on that defense that's threatened. I mean, on that offense that's threatening you. Christian Watson can't seem to stay on the field. There was all these grumbling complaints about,
Starting point is 00:11:38 oh, he's being too hard on him. Cool. Aaron can't be hard on me throwing three interceptions. Now the finger gets pointed at you. You finger gets pointed at, hey, Aaron Rogers, what are you doing? Some of those decisions. What are you doing? Now that's when the locker room starts falling apart.
Starting point is 00:11:51 When you got young guys that can question the proven veteran on the team, then things start falling apart because you have no stability. You have nobody to look to where you're like, hey, this guy is going to write the ship. Because if A. Rod ain't right in the ship, ship's not getting righted. And then you start thinking about who's on the hot seat and who they're getting rid of. And right now, he doesn't have a whole lot of help, but he can't make those decisions. He compounded it. Like, they scored nine points against the Detroit lines.
Starting point is 00:12:16 The defense did their job. They held him down, but you can only do so much. This loss falls on him. And I'm sure he accepts that. You know, I'm sure he accepts that. But he still, no matter what, this is going to be a long season because the trade deadline happened has passed. They went after Chase Claypool.
Starting point is 00:12:31 They weren't able to get him. They didn't get him any help. So it's not like reinforcements are coming anytime soon. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced. games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me. Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about
Starting point is 00:13:43 life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast. It's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So if you've ever supported me or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:14:05 And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because. of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
Starting point is 00:14:48 So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Starting point is 00:15:04 Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It's not, and you talked about him accepting it. It's almost like he's accepted the personnel he has around him, and you can see it with his body language, Rich. I mean, he is, he's frustrated out there. I mean, he had every right to be in this game, two red zone interceptions. You know, theoretically, they should have walked away with the win, but the lions,
Starting point is 00:15:30 the lions held tight, and it doesn't get any easier for the Packers. They host the Cowboys. This team could be staring at three and seven next week, Rich. And that's something certainly Aaron Rogers not used to. But sticking in the NFC North, you talked about them. And all of a sudden, the Bears went from unwatchable. They're probably one of the more fun teams to watch in this league. They're using Justin Fields the right way.
Starting point is 00:15:56 The guy pops off for 178 yards rushing. And this team almost knocks off the Miami Dolphins and a thriller. Rich, I mean, could we see a second half comeback with the Bears? If there is a team to push from the depths of this league to the playoff contention, if they're utilizing their personnel the right way? I think it's too little too late. I don't think they'll be able to come out. But they're going to be fun to watch.
Starting point is 00:16:23 It should be optimism there for Bears fans, for sure. And what's frustrating is it took this long. We talked about it when we had their game. People were like, you guys were just ragging on just the fields. I was like, I wasn't ragging on just the fields. I was ragging on Eberflus, like, and how he's using him. They're like, well, he's a very accurate pocket passer. That's all sound.
Starting point is 00:16:43 That's all good and well if you have great receivers and a great offensive line. You do not have either. You have Mooney who can get open and be dynamic. Pettis can get open and be dynamic at times, but you don't have the consistent number one that you need to allow your quarterback, drop back, hit his back foot, and then consistently work. So what you have to do is use his skill set, put pressure on the defense, put them on a compromise situation.
Starting point is 00:17:06 And that's what they're doing. They're keeping the defense on their heels. They're moving them out of the pocket. He's able to get easy reads, pitch and catch. And when he's able to drop back in rhythm, he's not getting blitzed. He's not because they're afraid to because you blitz and he boots or you blitz and he runs it. And you got less people in the back end to defend him. And he can run right through your defense as he proved on that 61-yard touchdown.
Starting point is 00:17:27 He's a great athlete. But it's frustrating that it took to them watching the Baltimore Ravens on the high week for them to realize, hey, we have a really athletic quarterback who can be really dynamic if we just gave in the ball and got out the weight, literally broke the rushing record for a quarterback. Like, like, it has been up since my kid. Right. And it had four touchdowns in the game. Like, what are you doing?
Starting point is 00:17:48 It reminds me, honestly, your second year with the 49ers when Lamar Jackson became the hot ticket item in town and the Ravens finally figured out how to use him properly, their offense was unstoppable. I mean, now the Chicago Bears offense, I don't want to call him unstoppable, but certainly utilizing Justin Fields the right way can make them a tough team to deal with. And it's a shame it took them over midway point through the season to figure out how to use Justin Fields. But we saw another interesting game.
Starting point is 00:18:16 And again, I questioned you about the Minnesota Vikings being their top five of the power ranks in it. Kirkgo. Kirkow, they almost lost to the commanders. I don't know if the commanders are a decent team or a garbage team. We're waiting to see how that all that's out. but Kirkgo wins at his own team. I mean, they're now seven and one. You got to give the guys credit.
Starting point is 00:18:39 I don't know how much there is a talk about with this game, but the Vikings keep winning. Beautiful or not, they're winning. Mitchell, it doesn't have to be pretty. It doesn't have to be great long as you win it. And the championship season, it all looks good at the end. I'm sure we can go back on the Rams season last year and find some very ugly losses and some very ugly wins
Starting point is 00:18:59 where you're like, real, it doesn't matter. You're holding a trophy at the end. and Kirkgo and company are putting themselves in position to be a very high seed in the playoffs and give themselves a chance. You know, you want, you get a buy in the first round. You know, they find a way to get a buy in the first round. You get one win and you're an NFC championship, you know, and that's what you want. That's the position you want to put yourself in.
Starting point is 00:19:23 And it looks like they're having fun. You see these videos of Kirk Cousins with Chainson dancing, like they're biving. They're enjoying themselves. Kevin O'Connell is doing a great job. in that kind of environment for those guys to thrive in, Justin Jefferson, having another phenomenal season. Zendary Smith, Zadariah Smith is having another great year. You know, that defense is looking phenomenal. They're just a veteran team that's, that knows what they're doing and utilizes their playmakers and puts teams in a tough position, week in and week out. And whether
Starting point is 00:19:52 it's a tight ball game, a loose ball game, they won by one, they won by two, they won by a half a point. It does not matter. Seven and one. A win is a win. Richard, they have a star on this team. Justin Jefferson. This is his 19th career 100 plus yard game tied for the most through three seasons with Odell Beckham and Randy Moss. You know, they picked up T.J. Hawkinson, who had nine targets, nine receptions. They got some talent on the offensive side of the ball and their defense is clicking. Who knows?
Starting point is 00:20:23 Who knows with this Vikings? It makes sense why they're in your top five. If good Kirkgo, if good Kirkgo shows up in the playoffs, it's going to be tough on somebody. If good Kirkgo shows up in the playoffs, and assaulting. Very dangerous. Yeah, they just better hope they're not playing the 49ers because the 49ers seem to have their number, at least when you were playing with them.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Richard, we're past the midway point of the season officially. It's time to talk about some midseason awards. I want to start with who you think at this point is your most surprising team of the year in a positive tone. Well, I've got to be Kirkgo in the vice. Vikings followed closely by Salah and the Jets in Seattle. You know, it's a bunch of teams. But the Vikings are 7 and 1 right now.
Starting point is 00:21:11 And they're on the roll halfway at the midway point. They're 7 and 1. So nobody, I don't think in this league would have thought Minnesota Vikings would be 7 and 1 and in control of the NFC North and 4.5 games up on Green Bay. And the Aaron Rogers invitational that was the NFC North. It's cool to see, though. It's cool, especially with Kevin O'Connell being. the first year head coach. You know, you always have question marks there, but he's answering going to be doing the skull chant deep into January. Richard, on the opposite side of this fence,
Starting point is 00:21:42 the most disappointing team of the year. That's a tosser. I mean, it could be Green Bay, it could be Tampa Bay. It could be the Raiders. You know, I mean, the AFC, the AFC West in general is disappointing because the AFC West is supposed to be with the AFC East has been, or the NFC East has been, you know, it's supposed to be a juggernaut and a bunch of a bunch of wins in that conference. And you're looking up and you're not having it. I think the Raiders have two wins. So it's, it's a, there are plenty of teams.
Starting point is 00:22:14 I mean, you talk about Tom and Aaron, you're expecting those, the guys have success and they're not having it. The Rams, they just won a Super Bowl, you know? I mean, you got to be the disappointed in them. Now this one, I feel like it's pretty obvious, but in your eyes, at least, but coach of the year thus far, Rich. that it's not obvious. If it was obvious, I'd give it.
Starting point is 00:22:34 But because I want to give it to Sala, I want to give it to Pete, his old quality control. Pete's old quality control. Sala and Pete up there. But Kevin O'Connell, 7 and 1, you know, you got to put him in the discussion. You got to put dayball in it. They're 6 and 2. Johns are still 6 and 2 and still competitive in the NFC East. So there's a lot of great candidates for Coach of the Year.
Starting point is 00:22:55 I selfishly want to give it to Pete or Sala, but Kevin O'Connell is definitely in it. Defensive rookie of the year. Do we even have to bring this up? I mean, unless you want me to do my sauce rhymes. It's sauce. But it's more of a discussion than it has been. He's in a big city, but Tarik Woolen is still leading the league in interceptions. Well, he's second in league in interceptions now.
Starting point is 00:23:16 CJ Gardner Johnson got one other night. So he's second in league in interceptions, but still having a really great season. Are we staying in Seattle for the offensive rookie of the year? Well, I'm probably going to keep it to Kenneth Walker the third. It would have been Breeze Hall running away with it, had he just stayed healthy, but he did not. There's an argument for Charles Cross, you know, the left tackle. It's not a stat business that has a tackle position before a rookie to come in and play
Starting point is 00:23:44 left tackle in his national football league and do as well as he done. Something to be said. There's funny with Kenneth Walker the third, and I know I love him. I've loved him since last year when he was playing with the Spartans, Rich. But like, this is a guy that's going to become a household name, specifically because he's going a win over the hearts of fantasy football owners, right? I mean, anyone that scooped him up up a waiver wire or drafted him late in their drafts is going to immediately know who Kenneth Walker the third is. This guy is a stud. Kenneth Walker, keep doing what you're doing, buddy.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Defensive player of the year, Rich. I want to still go with Balsa. Bolsa is still my pick. He was my preseason pick. I'm still going with him. But Matthew Judon is having a great year, who I just spoke up, C.J. Gardner Johnson on that Eagles team between him and Slate. They're going to have a, they're going to have a hard fought debate about, about who's going to be in that race. And they're probably going to steal votes from each other. So neither of them will probably get it. But if CJ Gardner Johnson keeps playing the way he is, he's going to be in it, slay is going to be in it. Yeah, those are those are my picks right now, but I still got Bosa. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Starting point is 00:24:55 Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast, Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking.
Starting point is 00:26:30 What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
Starting point is 00:26:56 I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

I might as well couple it together. Offensive player of the year slash MVP of this league. Who you got hosting that award? Well, those two different rewards.
Starting point is 00:28:39 So it's going to be interesting. It's going to be a dogfight at the end. I think Josh Allen is still the front runner for that. I think it's going to be hard not to put him in a discussion for offensive player of the year and player the year, I mean, and MVP. What does Jalen Hertz have to do to enter that conversation in your eyes, Rich? He's going to have to do a lot more. He's going to have to throw for more touchdowns, run for more touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:29:03 He's doing a great job with his team and winning ball games. But you got Tyreek out there in Miami, purely dominant. He has more receiving yards than teams. Tua is throwing his hat in the ring. I mean, ever since he's come back from the concussions, he's been freaking lighting it up. I think he's got 596 yards over the last. two games past the sticks on the seats. And you talk about what he's doing for that offense and that team,
Starting point is 00:29:30 he's definitely going to be in discussion. So I guess office player to year, probably Tariq, MVP, Josh Allen. Second half projections. Where do you see this all netting out in terms of the teams at the end? I want just simply put, who do you see the final four teams standing? Who's playing in the AFC, NFC championship games? Who's going to the Super Bowl and who's taking her home? I mean, an NFC championship game, I can see an Eagles, Niners.
Starting point is 00:29:56 I still think the Niners are going to be there. You know, I think they're going to get, like they always do, get healthy at the right time. Guys are going to be firing on all cylinders. Howe's going to be calling his best stuff, and it's going to be a fun game to watch. The AFC side, you would hope a repeat of the Chiefs bills, but I'm not sure that's going to happen. You know, I think it's going to get chaotic like it did last year, where you have a dark horse team like the Bengals did. last year and they sneak through and win those clutch ball games and make huge plays right when they need to.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Hmm. But who do I want to put there? Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs. Mitch, Todd. Turn around team. A turnaround team, I think, is going to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I think they're going to write the ship. You know, I think Tom's going to find a way.
Starting point is 00:30:53 to get it done. I think team that's going to fall off will likely be maybe the Giants. You know, they don't have a super tough schedule, but, you know, the way they've been winning games wasn't as sustainable. And I think people are going to have answers to the run game of Saquan and Daniel Jones. And, you know, Wink is a tough, tough one. He's made their defense really dynamic, but I think offensively they're going to find themselves a lot more limited. The Seattle or center base is going to be wondering. What is the ceiling for this team? I mean, can they be this year's Cincinnati Bengals
Starting point is 00:31:30 or do you just not see that with this team? I can't put it past it, you know what I mean? Because their defense is actually playing really well. Their defense has turned it around. You look at Big Al Woods is playing well. Jordan Brooks is playing well. The corners, these young corners are gaining more confidence by the game. They took two turnovers from Kobe Bryant.
Starting point is 00:31:48 They took a force fumble and an interception away from him. I mean, I'd be pissed. He's already leading the league in forced fumbles. Tarik was leading the league in interceptions for a while. Now he's second. You still got Quan Dre Diggs back there making a big-time impact. In Wosu, in Wosu is, you know, four sacks over the last two games. My boy, Big Bruce is back.
Starting point is 00:32:10 Bruce Irvin, creating, I mean, he had a sack last week. But his veteran impact, his veteran leadership, it's calming demeanor. You got to appreciate all that. And offensively, Gino, Gino. His leadership is shining through, you know, not just his play, but his leadership and his calming resolve. And you look up and guys like Noah Fent are, you know, I mean, Shelby Harris had a sack in that game, a big time sack. These guys that came over that were supposed to be just throw-ins in the Denver Broncos trade are making huge impacts for this team. And they're having fun. I mean,
Starting point is 00:32:41 Noel Fann had a 51-yard catch where a lot of it was yak-yardage. Shelby Harris had a big sack and he had a big play in the game before. So you look at this team and you're saying, hey, these guys are playing selfless. They're having fun. They're buying into the culture. I mean, it's guys, though, really. They're winning in commanding fashion too, Rich. I mean, that's a separator from them, like in a team like the Giants, right? I mean, the Giants were just squeaking by, squeaking by, and finally they got bit when they went to Seattle. But it's like, here's a team, the last couple games, they've won. I mean, the Arizona game again, they controlled it. They look like the better team by far through every quarter of that game. And this is a team.
Starting point is 00:33:23 We're going to see what they do this upcoming week in Germany. Obviously a big test for them going against TB12. So the challenges continue. Let's prove it again. Six and three, but you got to prove it again. That gets to the next point. I know Seattle fans are going to wonder, when the heck are we going to see him in the top five of Richard Sherman's power ranks? Rich, what is your top five power ranks After week nine. Medjo, it gets shuffled at the top for the first time in a long time. It gets shuffled. But at the top top, it's still the same.
Starting point is 00:33:56 It's the Eagles. Then it'll go the chiefs. Because Buffalo taking that L to Sala and the boys. The fighting Sala. Fighting Sala. And then, surprisingly, the Minnesota Vikings. The Minnesota Vikings, then the Buffalo Bills. I cannot get put Seattle there.
Starting point is 00:34:19 I want to put them there. I cannot yet put them there. I think they are a really good team. I think they're going to that. They're probably six in my rankings, but unfortunately, I have to put the Dallas Cowboys there with the way they're running the ball.
Starting point is 00:34:33 Again, if Tony Pollard's the lead back. Tony Pollard, our boy. So, Richard, before we sign off, Frank Reich has been fired by the Indianapolis Colts. Talk about a disappointed team this year. I mean, this is a team you expected to compete for the division. Matt Ryan's on board, you know, maybe a dark horse candidate in the FACC to make some noise and talk an utter disappointment.
Starting point is 00:34:55 Surprisingly, they bench Matt Ryan for Sam Ellinger. And today they fire Frank Reich in favor of Jeff's Saturday. First off, impressions of this move. And then I want you to talk about, you know, here's a guy with zero coaching experience. Obviously, people love him. He's a media personality. He had a hell of a career. you know, centering Peyton Manning.
Starting point is 00:35:17 But what does Jeff Saturday have to do to win over this locker room? And is there any hope in Indy? Mitchell, there was no hope after they benched Matt Ryan. Because you thought Sam Allen. When you thought Sam Ellinger was the answer for a national football team in the national football, you thought, oh, Matt Ryan's not getting it done. Sam Ellinger, he's going to really, if Matt Ryan's not getting it done, your team's not getting it done.
Starting point is 00:35:40 Just go ahead and wrap it up. It's not him. Like he can make his mistakes, he can turn the ball over it, but it's probably because that highly paid offensive line is a bus. They're playing like bums right now. Like they're not playing well. The guys that you expect it to play well are not playing well. You're paying them a lot of money, and they're getting beat.
Starting point is 00:35:58 And they're beat up and they're injured. And so you're putting a lot of blame on Matt Ryan, and it wasn't his fault. Now they're just firing people. You fire Frank Wright. You bring in Saturday. Now it's starting to all look like a joke. It's starting to all look like a joke. And Jim Ursa is running it like a,
Starting point is 00:36:13 I mean, like a mom and pops. Well, the most amazing thing to me is the trajectory of Jeff Saturday, right? And I can see, you know, having this Hall of Fame career going to the media and then transitioning to head coaching. I mean, Rich, this is something I can see you doing. You know, I could see Mitchell. Pete Carroll going down in five years, calling it a career, maybe a couple of years. And then them saying, hey, Rich, can we, can we have you as the head coach as our interim?
Starting point is 00:36:43 I'm not, I'd come in and have a blast. Hey, you need me for three weeks? I got you. We're about to have a three fun weeks. Hey, get ready for the top to come off the defense because we are running trick plays. I'm talking about we're going to do it all. He's just run a freaking triple option left and right, man. We're going to run goal balls, a hook and ladder.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Hey, if your teammates near you pitch it, catch a curl, go ahead and pitch it. Get going. Get going. Backyard, quarterback. Like, offense line. Let's get it. Let's see how dynamic. We can make this offense in the next couple of weeks.
Starting point is 00:37:16 But this is a crazy move. It's some president, and I'm sure the league is going to have something to say about it because, you know, the Rooney rule that they don't really care about, but you're supposed to respect. Yeah. Well, Richard, this concludes week nine. We're going to see you on Thursday night football. We got a thriller, guys, an absolute thriller in Carolina. The Panthers are taking on and hosting the Atlanta Falcons.
Starting point is 00:37:40 You all need to tune in and watch my guy, Richard. fire up the troops, Richard. I'm trying to create as much enthusiasm for probably one of the worst Thursday night games, but give us any reason we've got to tune in. Well, hopefully PJ Walker plays. If he doesn't play, we're going to have the Sam Darnold Classic. I'm trying to find optimism.
Starting point is 00:38:00 I mean, maybe the Atlanta Falcons run for 360 or something, break a record. I mean, that could be something to watch. Mariotta's going to be exciting. Their defense in Carolina can make some plays. It's, it's, uh, tune in 7 p.m. Eastern for TNF tonight. It's going to be, it's going to be a football game. It will be a football game.
Starting point is 00:38:22 Well, guys, this concludes us for, uh, for week nine. We appreciate you joining us and always, Richard. I'll let you sign us off. Appreciate you guys joining us. Hit the sub button if you're new. Join us next week with another guest and another fun segment. See you then. The volume.
