Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
Starting point is 00:00:45 This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. Help an Acapella band with their Between Songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Joey Dardano, and on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives,
Starting point is 00:01:08 helping people in need with thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to me. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hippocrite Wednesdays on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:34 What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was funny. You just understood. That's how personal it got.
Starting point is 00:01:50 Wow. Then after that game seven, Marquis' keep coming to him. He's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome in.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Watch Driving their Guide to episode 386. Our week 9, the Midway Point Gambling Show. This episode is brought to you by our friends at Boost Mobile. On the gambling show, we don't do a straight to voicemail. What if we did, that would also be brought to you by our friends at Boost Mobile. Hard couple of weeks for the gambling show to Monza. Couple losing teasers. Couple two and three weeks.
Starting point is 00:02:34 You're at 500. I'm two games below 500. Not great. Not disastrous. Keep plugging along. Just need to get hot at the right time, as they say. Last week, though, we... Here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:02:54 A half-point win. counts as much as a 30 point cover and getting, you know, being blown out by 30 is the same as, you know, getting absolutely screwed on a backdoor cover. But last week, the losses were grizzly. So we had Atlanta laying seven and a half against Miami, they got blown out.
Starting point is 00:03:20 We had the biggest strike in theory, good fortune imaginable where we got Chicago plus six and a half at Baltimore under the assumption Lamar was playing. Lamar wasn't playing the line dropped to one and a half. They lost outright by 14. Tampa minus three and a half against New Orleans was an easy winner. Green Bay minus three at Pittsburgh was an easy winner. And then we had Dallas plus three and a half at Denver and they got annihilated as well. So our three losses were ugly, but two and three is what it ends up being.
Starting point is 00:04:00 And this week, I will say, I like the slate. Some weeks, there's like three games I really like, and then I'm, you know, kind of having to pull teeth to find the last two. This week was the opposite. There were seven games or eight games I liked, and I had to manicure it down to just, five. So we'll get to those in a second. And today's show is brought to you by our presenting sponsor, Hard Rock Bet. As I was just talking about, there are plenty of great games in week nine, including, of course, the biggest game that the bills play all year, every year, Chiefs bills in the regular season. You can find odds to bet on any of these streaks right now in the
Starting point is 00:04:44 Hard Rock Bet app. Juju has caught two or more balls in six straight games, his over under, is one and a half with plus money on the over, plus. 105. I like that one. In four or five games since the tackle to turn the tide, Mahal just thrown three or more touchdowns. You can get over two and a half fast TDs at plus 160. If you still haven't tried your first bet on Hard Rock bet, there's still time for you to get $150 in bonus bets if you win. Just place a $5 bet, and if it hits, you get not only your winnings, but also an extra $150 in bonus bets. New promos every day. So if you're listening to this later, just open the app and check out what you've got any day of the week.

What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:06:16 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember.
Starting point is 00:06:31 I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing. a bit for the podcast for people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential
Starting point is 00:06:56 title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman helped make you funny.
Starting point is 00:07:18 This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and headwriter, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Keith Giamanka seemed like a mild-mannered suburban dad,
Starting point is 00:07:43 but secretly, he became someone else, a master of disguise who went on a crime spree. At the time, did it seem like a crazy idea? It seemed very crazy. But I felt so desperate that I felt it was the quickest, easiest way out. Did you allow yourself to think about how it could go wrong and what that might look like? No. I didn't want to manifest that. I was trying to manifest success. Every family has its secrets. But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living.
Starting point is 00:08:19 a double life. That is not the look of an innocent man. This is going to change my life and my family dynamic forever because everything that had existed prior in my reality is now untrue. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When you listen to podcasts about AI and tech and the future of humanity, the hosts always act like they know what they're talking about.
Starting point is 00:08:53 out and they are experts at everything. Here, the Nick Dick and Poll show, we're not afraid to make mistakes. What Coogler did that I think was so unique. He's the writer-director. Who do you think he is? I don't know. You mean it to like the president?
Starting point is 00:09:08 You think Canada has a president? You think China has a president? Does La Crosette. God, I love that thing. I use it all the time. I wrap it in a blanket and sing to it at night. It's like the old Polish saying, Not my monkeys, not my circus.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Yep. It was a good one. It is an actual Polish saying. It is an actual Polish saying. Better version of Play Stupid Games, win stupid prizes. Yes. Which, by the way, wasn't Taylor Swift, who said that for the first time. I actually thought it was.
Starting point is 00:09:38 I got that wrong. Listen to the Nick Dick and Paul show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, DeManzay, four teams on a buy. Browns, Jets, Eagles, Bucks. We do not have a Monday night double header. We do not have a London game, and there's only four teams on a buy, which does mean we should have a very meaty Sunday slate of games. Let's get right to it. First, stay away. Denver at Houston.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Houston's one and a half point favorites. So here's the deal. I've been fading Denver a lot this year. I have been wrong so far. And I like it. I like Houston in this game. Wow. Because I think that this is, my handicap on this game is twofold.
Starting point is 00:10:31 One is, I do think the Broncos are going to really struggle with that Houston defense. But the big, but the, the Texans should struggle with the Broncos defense. The real handicap on it is, I think the general public is going to be all over Denver. and I think that line is almost daring you to take the Texans. But I've been wrong enough on the Broncos that I'm either, I was either this week going to bet on them or stay away and I'm staying away. Next. Carolina at Green Bay, Green Bay is 13.5 point favorites.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Just a huge number. Yeah. Carolina on the road with the quarterback. situation I obviously don't love, but 13 and a half. If I was going to play a side in this Demonsie, I would swallow those 13 and a half points. But no, I would take free bay. But I am, I'm just going to, that's also a game
Starting point is 00:11:38 that I don't really want to be, have an investment in because there's too many other good games and that game should be a blowout. So I'm staying away from it. Next. Yeah, we got Chicago at Cincinnati. Cincinnati's two and a half point dogs. My lean here is Chicago. And the fact that Flacco's hurt and what is the, is he officially out?
Starting point is 00:12:04 I don't think he's officially out. He's 50, 50 for the game. Not knowing whether or not Flacco's playing or not, and when we do this, to me, makes this to stay away. I think if we knew Flacco were playing, my lean wouldn't be with the Bears. the Bengals. With Jake Browning, I would, you know, lay the two and a half with Chicago on the road, but we're just going to stay away from it. Next. Atlanta at New England, New England's five-point favorites. My lean here is Atlanta, flatly because I just don't think New England can stay this hot.
Starting point is 00:12:45 And Atlanta does have the best running back in the NFL other than Jonathan Taylor this year. and Atlanta, prior to the Dolphins game, it had a really good pass defense. But their quarterback situation is up in the air. They have been such a mess that I don't feel, and the Patriots have been blowing people out last couple of weeks. I don't feel comfortable playing a side in this game. I'm shocked here.
Starting point is 00:13:12 I just, I just feel like the Patriots are, and this might be bad handicapping. I just just, feel like they're due for a bad game. And with Atlanta being a weird team, maybe this is one of those games that they also dominate in or end up winning and surprising people. Or Vijon looks great. Like Atlanta's been so weird. So I'm just staying away. Next.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Chargers at Tennessee, Tennessee's eight and a half point dogs. My lean here was the Chargers. Because the Titans have just been so brutal. But eight and a half, at six and a half, I would play the. chargers in a snap. At seven, I'd play them. Seven and a half, I'd think about it. Eight and a half is too much. It just feels like that's, they are giving you extra points to try to incentivize you to
Starting point is 00:14:03 bet Tennessee. But betting Tennessee is just, I've determined, it's not a, just a Brian Callahan issue. That team is just off. Yeah. And so we're staying away. Next. New Orleans at the Rams, Rams 14 point favorites. That's a big old number.
Starting point is 00:14:23 And now it's Tyler Shuck's first start. It's the Rams rested. And I think Shuck is really going to struggle with that Rams defense. But 14 points for me is too many to lay. When we have seen the Rams, you know, they played the Rams. Go ahead, DeMontz. No, it was a weird one that they played. I think a couple weeks back.
Starting point is 00:14:52 It was just like, why is this team? Well, it was the Ravens game, I think you're thinking of. I think it was the Ravens game. Yeah, it was the Ravens game. It was Cooper, Rush, or Huntley, or whomever. And they just let them stick around. Yeah, they just kept doing me. And aside from the Jags game, a couple weeks ago,
Starting point is 00:15:14 the Rams haven't been blowing people out. Listen, the cults are excellent, but they beat them by seven, and blowing people out's wrong. Let me take that back. Because the Rams do have multiple exactly 14-point victories. But a 14-point victory here just get you a push. And so I'm just staying away. I'm not betting Tyler Shuck in his first start.
Starting point is 00:15:36 I'm just staying away. Next. Jags at Raiders, 2.5 point dogs. These last two stayaways were games I initially had on the card and then took them off. I like the Raiders plus the points here. absolute desperate spot off a buy and see what they were able to get done off the buy for the Raiders. But I'm not getting three.
Starting point is 00:16:05 And they have looked so bad that off a buy should be a good thing. But it also might have been, you know, let's pack it up, fellas. And so I need to see them play a game. and you like the jag side of it. I can see it in your eyes. Oh, yeah. I mean, I don't think. I think the Raiders probably think that they're cooked.
Starting point is 00:16:28 They don't look good. I don't know. I just don't know how the impact the buy is going to have on them, but I'm staying away. And last one. Arizona at Dallas with Dallas being two and a half point favorites. I initially had Dallas on there. I just feel like Dallas is offense at home Monday night football.
Starting point is 00:16:50 should roll. And then I paused. And I said, man, I just watched Bo Nix carve up this Dallas defense. What are the Cardinals going to do? I think Kyler's playing. Here's the thing. I don't really care if it's Kyle.
Starting point is 00:17:09 I don't know if there's a big difference right now between Kyler and Brissette. Kyler is 8-0 in his life in Texas Stadium, dominated there in high school, one there in college, is undefeated there as a pro. That's his favorite place to play. And that Dallas defense's been so bad that I took him off the card at the last moment
Starting point is 00:17:34 for a different game. So those are the stayaways. Here are my five picks this week. First pick is Detroit minus eight and a half going up against Minnesota. Golf evidently is 8-0 against the spread against the Vikings in his lion's career. The lions are on extended rest.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Minnesota right now might be a total mess. I think the Lions defense, which against bad quarterbacks really can get after you, could give J.J. McCarthy hell. And we don't know if J.J. McCarthy, how hurt was he or how much were they hiding him? And what we do know about the Lions, the Lions love pouring it on.
Starting point is 00:18:16 The Lions love pouring it on. of annihilating teams. And so I don't mind laying the eight and a half points. I love the Lions in this spot. One of my, maybe my favorite play of the week. It's the first one, Detroit minus eight and a half. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Never been so sure about minus eight to half spread. I'm very confident in that one. Pittsburgh plus three versus Indy. So I'm very, you saying you're very confident in that one. Oh, you're getting off of them? No, no, no, not at all. I'm just curious if that means it's going to be the Detroit Money Line is going to be a leg of your teaser. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:59 No, that's good. Because you like eight point teasers, and if you like a minus eight and a half, like that to me is pretty good for your eight point teaser, a pretty good teaser. Pretty good. All right, Pittsburgh plus three against Indy. Tomlin at home getting at least a field goal. all these numbers. We went against them last week. Green Bay, we said we didn't care, and we were right.
Starting point is 00:19:26 We're going back with them this week. Off a loss, Tomlin, 61 and 47 against the spread. They're 25 and 15 against the spread as an underdog off an outright loss, and 12 and 4 against the spread as a home dog off a straight up loss. Tomlin, 22, 8, and 3 as a home dog against the spread. Now, the Steelers defense against that offense does worry you a bit, but Rogers has been good. Again, I'm getting three points. I don't feel spectacular about this from having watched that Steelers defense over the course of season and watched the Colts offense.
Starting point is 00:20:06 But there is just all of Tomlin's history says, if you're giving him at least three points at home, he doesn't lose. he covers. That was the case last week, and he didn't, and we sniffed it out. I don't think it's going to happen back to back. I like Pittsburgh plus three. Next. San Francisco minus two and a half going up because the Giants. Listen, this is just a play that the Giants season ended with the blown game to Denver.
Starting point is 00:20:39 And last week, they got bullied by the Eagles, and they lost another. key player in Scataboo due to injuries. So no scataboo, no neighbors. Weird noise this week surrounding their D-line with Carl Banks calling out Dexter Lawrence, with Tibodeau potentially being on the trade block. I think the Giants are floundering a bit. I don't really think it matters which Niners quarterback plays all lay the two and a half with the Giants going east coast to west coast, all lay the two and a half with
Starting point is 00:21:15 San Francisco. Next. Who would have thought you got the Chiefs minus one and a half at Buffalo? Listen, I just think the Chiefs are the best team in the league and I'm laying less than a field goal. This is the sharp side is going to say, I would imagine, getting points with the bills at home. You have to do it. I don't care about that. And a lot of Mahomes is against the spread, grizzly against the spread numbers the last few years have to do with the Chiefs being big favorites. They are not big favorites here.
Starting point is 00:21:48 They're tiny favorites. I think the Chiefs win by at least a field goal. I'll lay the point in a half. And last one, this is the one I added when I took out Cowboys. Yeah, Seattle minus three at Washington. Yeah. Listen, I don't love the West Coast to East. However, Washington is banged up.
Starting point is 00:22:09 The defense has been bad. I do think Jayden's going to play. but I think Seattle is one of the more underrated teams in the league right now, and Seattle's one of the only teams that going West Coast to East actually helps them, as far as covering 17, 8, and 2 over the last basically half decade when they're playing on the East Coast. I think Seattle's really good. I think Washington is bad and injured.
Starting point is 00:22:40 I'll take Seattle minus three. So we are going to Monza with four favorites. we are going with Detroit laying 8 and a half against Minnesota, San Francisco laying 2 and a half against the Giants, Kansas City laying 1 and 1 half at Buffalo, Seattle laying 3 at Washington, and the one dog is Pittsburgh plus 3 at home against the 7 and 1 Indianapolis Colts.
Starting point is 00:23:05 All right, before we get to the teaser, you're thinking about upgrading to the all-new iPhone 17 Pro, designed to be the most powerful iPhone ever, but you're also thinking about the traffic, on your way to the store or transferring all your data and what a hassle it will be. Starting point is 00:25:00 Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Keith Giamanka seemed like a mild mannered. suburban dad, but secretly, he became someone else, a master of disguise who went on a crime spree. At the time, did it seem like a crazy idea? When you listen to podcasts about AI and tech and the future of humanity, the hosts always act like they know what they're talking about and they are experts at everything. Here, the Nick Dick and Poll Show, we're not afraid to make mistakes. What Kugler did that I think was so unique. He's the writer-director.
Starting point is 00:26:35 Who do you think he is? I don't know. You mean the president? You think Canada has a president. You think China has a president. Does law a crusette. God, I love that thing. I use it all the time.
Starting point is 00:26:49 I wrap it in a blanket and sing to it at night. It's like the old Polish saying, not my monkeys, not my circus. Yep. It's a good one. I like that saying. It is an actual Polish saying. It is an actual Polish saying.
Starting point is 00:27:02 Better version of Play Stupid Games, win stupid prizes. Yes. Which, by the way, wasn't Taylor Swift, who said that for the first time. I actually thought it was. I got that wrong. Listen to the Nick Dick and Paul show
Starting point is 00:27:13 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. guests. All right, DeMonse, let's get to your picks of the weekend. Well, first last week,
Starting point is 00:27:27 Dallas got you like they got me. Yeah. Chicago plus 14.5 by the skin of your teeth, buddy. Exactly. That half point that I got is the morning. Yep, easy winner. And then Dallas screwed you
Starting point is 00:27:43 as Bo Nix carved them up. Let's see. What do you have this week? All right. So the record is in jeopardy. So we're doing whatever it takes by any means necessary is what we're calling this. We got a three-team eight-point teaser at plus 100. I am throwing Detroit in there by any means necessary.
Starting point is 00:28:00 Like we said, they're basically a pick-um at 0.5. I'm going to throwing the charges in there as a pick-um as well. They're at minus 0.5 against the Titans. And then Kansas City up to plus 6 and a half against the bills. Yeah, I know those are both just basically. money line bets, but I mean, the charges are going to beat the Titans and the Lions are going to be the Vikings. And the Chiefs don't get blown out. Yeah, oddly of that, the Chiefs are the most nerve-wracking one.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Yeah. I also, though, like that you're telling me there, you think the Chiefs might blow out the bills. Because you could have gotten the bill. Yeah, got more on the bill. Yeah. But I, so I'm going to give that an A. because Detroit and the Chargers should just be in already. And then it's can the Chiefs keep it within a touchdown or a win?
Starting point is 00:28:53 And now really what maybe we should rename the Friday gambling show. We give you mediocre picks for a half hour and then I give you a can't lose player touchdown prop. So last week, Kelsey hit, just like you said, at plus 120. Outside of you calling CD land, like you called CD land one week, he went out early. so we really don't get hurt in the game yeah he got hurt so he got sent out um do you have anything for us this week for any time touchdown score so i like because we're basically undefeated on this and dating back to last year we crushed part of that is that i don't do them every week yeah but i'm gonna play the hot hand but not in the way you would expect chiefs bills i am going to go
Starting point is 00:29:52 Josh Allen touchdown Josh Allen anytime touchdown for the Chiefsbills game That is He'll probably have to have the cape on that day So nine times out of ten
Starting point is 00:30:07 Or like you know They get it down to the one They like the push push So yeah I'm going to go Josh Allen Anytime touchdown That's plus 100 Yeah even money
Starting point is 00:30:19 Exactly dead even money All right the offer So we striked out two weeks in a row with Bejohn, not hitting on the offers. So last week that didn't hit. And speaking of striking out, we're going to pivot over to baseball.
Starting point is 00:30:30 We're avoiding football in Toronto to win the World Series 4 to 3 at plus 240. Game 6 on Friday. Do you want that when we got some other ones here? Well, here's the thing. I'm going to turn it down just because of this. I think on general principle, I think you're going to, I just don't want to give the audience bad gambling advice.
Starting point is 00:30:58 And I think you're going to get better return on your money. If you just, if you believe Toronto is going to win four to three, I think you can get better than plus 240 on betting the Dodgers for their game tomorrow and then putting the entirety of that bet on. the blue jays on saturday so the i think that the cumulative return on that would be better than plus 240 and it's the exact same bet so it uh i just think that that is yeah so when you are at this point in a series i i just don't think that in order to like so Like you probably wanted a bet that a week ago.
Starting point is 00:31:54 Correct. Absolutely. Where you, it's not, there's only one, where there were multiple ways for Toronto to win. Right. You know, you couldn't just simply make the exact bet you're making it in a slightly different way. And again, I don't think the return will be hugely different. I think it'd be like plus probably 255. But still, it's a better return.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Dodgers right now are minus $1.45 tonight. And then again, if you were to do that, you'd put your in, whatever you were going to bet on Toronto, say you're going to bet $100 on Toronto plus $2.40. You would put that $100 on the Dodgers minus $1.45. And then tonight, and then you would put that entire stake on Toronto Moneyline tomorrow. That's the way to make that bet.
