Starting point is 00:00:00 Mad Twitter dudes fell off. Hi! Hey, you guys! Yeah, goddammit. Rory used to follow ZD. I think I still do. Oh my god. I haven't unfollowed or followed someone in a really long time. Why?
Starting point is 00:00:17 I'm just not... I'm not into Twitter like that anymore. Really? I don't mean that in a bad way. Just... I don't know. What's your social media choice? Or are you just in general falling back from social media?
Starting point is 00:00:28 Probably IG. Okay. Visual person, no. There's more titties over there. I noticed Rory deleted all of his posts. Ooh. Cleared house. Is that album?
Starting point is 00:00:39 We got three posts up. Is someone in album mode? Is this scary hours? Rory, don't talk to me like that. Don't talk to me about album mode. Should I grow my hair out? Yeah, probably. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:48 That's when you know it's serious. You ain't peep that, Joe? The cleanse? I thought about doing that. What kind of pod are we having today? Sometimes you got to plan. Whatever pod. Whatever you feeling, man.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Just come in. Yeah, you could delete all your... And listen, it's chill, mellow Joe today. I'm not playing with you. Except, no, same-sies. I'm not arguing. No, I'm not. I'm exhausted.
Starting point is 00:01:09 I'm not, yeah. You can't get riled up. Those are, yeah. You can't get... I know when Joe just... He ain't going to get too riled up. He ain't get riled up at the picnic. He not trying to sweat up the fresh.
Starting point is 00:01:17 I already know. He going to keep it real calm and cool and mellow today. I'm chilling. You know what I'm saying? Good sweater, good pants. I'm just calm. Great for pants. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:24 I'm just calm today. That's all. Good golf pants. I see you. It's just a mellow vibe on a Friday. I'm saying? Good sweater, good pants. Grandpa pants. Yeah. Good golf pants. I see you. It's just a mellow vibe on a Friday. That's all. It's Easter? But now went no parks. Lent is here. Lent. Those are Lent pants. Yeah. There's no Lent on them, but they're Lent pants. They're too expensive
Starting point is 00:01:38 for Lent. You can wear those when you're transitioning into a different phase. Pretty affordable pants. You can go get them. Did you get a fashion for that? Probably on a clearance rack. They're on sale. Yeah, I'm chilling today. But now,
Starting point is 00:01:51 the picture deletion off Instagram can be attributed to one of two things. No, many things. Not just two things. There's many things. Is it many things? Absolutely. I thought it was only two.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Which two? It's just album mode. Album mode or breakup? That's it. The other two that ring out in my mind. Well, what else is there? What else is there? I think there's more reasons, though.
Starting point is 00:02:15 You could be... You just didn't like your old pics? Yeah. Your old swag? You got a new camera. Posting a lot of bullshit. You're like, that ain't really me no more. I don't really...
Starting point is 00:02:23 I'm not into those things anymore. I'm not my past. Yeah. Shit like that. Wait, these are the three pics left on his page? Oh, no, these are new ones. He is dying inside. These are new ones.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Fam, when you take the, hey, I'm by the pool table pic, smiling. That was a genuine smile. Not a pool stick in his hand. You just made a good shot? I just don't understand why this podcast has been about me. It's the Rory Button Podcast. Rory Harvey. Rory Harvey.
Starting point is 00:02:54 The more I don't want to talk about myself, the more people want to talk. Yeah, that's what happens. That's how it goes. All right, fine. I'll play a little tune. Is your hoodie a metaphor for life because it's a racetrack? Rory. No, it's not. Stop deflecting. Did'll play a little tune. Is your hoodie a metaphor for life because it's a racetrack? Rory. No, it's not.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Stop deflecting. Did you buy a flight club? Did I buy a flight club? Yeah. Do you have just like all the Jordans? Not all. Do you have a whole separate room for all your clothing? I need one now.
Starting point is 00:03:20 The sneakers. All right. I'm starting this point. I'm not doing this. That's not what we're doing. We're not coming on. Yall i need a whole separate room for the lays now you need a labor room closet too small can't even walk in king of new york christopher walk-in any door in new york in. Oh, that sounded kind of hard over here. Yeah, let me do the ass. Uh, I'm just so far from home, October's on, please leave me alone, what goes on, screaming
Starting point is 00:03:55 in the phone, see my house is not a home, fuck is going on, where did we go wrong, where do we belong, caught up in the- What year was that? Nigga always go to this When it's 2010? It was 09 09 Damn

Starting point is 00:04:15 I think he does No His tone is not His tone changed Oh tone police is back No but I'm saying When you go back and listen to artists Like their
Starting point is 00:04:23 Like First work Or first records, you can hear. Even in Ross. Oh, yeah. Ross for sure. Kanye too. Yeah. You can hear it.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Okay. Okay. Down in Cheney's zone, still nothing's set in stone Women borrow sweaters that I spray with my cologne And tell me don't forget them and I promise that I won't Feeling so distant from everyone I've known To make everybody happy, I think I would need a clone Places we get flown, parties that we thrown What do you say? This boy is good.
Starting point is 00:05:00 He's a good rapper. It's only been three years, look at how I've grown I'm just in my zone Still never got to the bottom of Drake and Rory's beef. You created it. You should let us know. No, no. I had a beef and handled mine.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Yours still exists. No. Joe magnified it. He put all eyes on to the beef. Rory ain't writing out a verse when Drake was sending him shots at him. Rory ain't writing out a bar. He ain't going to the studio. Ashley ran and hid
Starting point is 00:05:25 And never got seen At another pool party again I saw Drake in Detroit And it worked great Did you notice that Rory started working On his album Right after the Drake beef
Starting point is 00:05:34 I see people in person To squash beefs You do it on the internet True True that Both of y'all True that Both of y'all
Starting point is 00:05:42 True that for both of y'all I agree Whatever y'all saying Yeah M for both of y'all. I agree, whatever y'all saying. Yeah, Melo Joe's here. I can't fucking believe it. No, I like you. I like you. I think I'm liking you.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Melo Joe, I just complimented him. He said, no, you got beef with him. Life is so insane. No, you was copping please because you had beef. No, I just seen him in Detroit and everything was awesome. Got my fame because every picture taken is a fan that you can gain. They love it when you smile, unaware that it's a strain
Starting point is 00:06:06 It's a curse you gotta live with when you born to entertain Women need attention, if not women will complain Develop hatred for men and say that you're the one that makes them Somebody text the video to Joe and be dancing to it Mic check, one, two, one, two, mic check, one, two, one, two High vibrations, high high frequencies only a real mellow vibe today hope everybody's feeling good feeling great I like it I like it we here to do one thing and one thing only man's what we do best some of
Starting point is 00:06:34 y'all already know six years in man why do I feel so like everybody passing through the studio was in characters if he acting out a movie role that's cuz they were in character Drake they knew he acting out a movie role I'm talking bullshit as if it wasn't you to know And how I was bitchin' with you to go So they stick around, kickin' out feedback And I entertain it as if I need that I had a talk with my uncle and he agreed that My privacy about the only thing I need back
Starting point is 00:07:00 I'm talking about the damn Pilates clothes With Stefano Pilato suits on your neck I'm talking about the damn Pilates clothes That's when everybody started talking to their uncles. Drake started that. They need privacy. Niggas ain't talk to their uncles before that line. I think Keeley said that first. I don't know what you're talking about. You offended as an uncle? Yeah. None of your nieces and nephews want to talk?
Starting point is 00:07:22 Yeah. I heard. Tell us when you stood out, Mo. Tell us when you stood out. Right. Tell us when you stood out. Right now? Oh, I was a young lad. When you had that realization? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:57 Nah, you stood out when you was cheesing the deaf in the Kardashian toast picture that was floating around the internet. You were the first person that I noticed. I would have stood out if I was stone-faced I'm just telling you You stood out, man It was a birthday celebration I'm just not the social type And campus life is crazy Why don't you get into college? There it is, right? I'm just not the social type and campus life is crazy Drake marketed to college It's Parks. It's Parks. It's Parks.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Drake marketed to college. J. Cole marketed to college. Kendrick marketed to college. I like it. I've been beefing with the college people for weeks. Pump It Up marketed to college. That was a college jam. I only made that for colleges.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Well, Drake rapping about college was just a natural continuation after his high school fame. Degrassi, right? Very true. Jay Dillamay beats for college. Tribe was... Come on. You don't get more college than that. While we're on the subject, I do want to ask you guys, do you think it's easier to get on now or... For sure.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Microphone check, one, two, what is this? We've been potting for seven years and don't know what a stream is worth. We come on here and talk all this shit and don't have a fucking clue. Still didn't update the people? We're getting close. I think we're getting close. We're getting close.
Starting point is 00:09:39 They keep moving the post a little bit. There's a lot of little tricks and loops that we keep going. We're going to figure it out. I don't know what episode this is. Yo, you be fucking... Are you sure? 419, man. Are you sure?
Starting point is 00:09:54 I'm not sure he's ever been wrong. Welcome to the world. Welcome to... Well, who checks when he's wrong? The people. Every time we... The public. Yo.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Oh, yo, yo, wrong. Yo, Saban can't spell for shit. Check this out. Spelling is hard. Spelling is really difficult. Yeah, who knew that snub needed to be articulated for him? What do you call the snug nose?
Starting point is 00:10:18 The snug nose. Long Island. The snug nose. So much warmer places. He had a little snuggie nose nah he needed the jacket Joe was so mad about that
Starting point is 00:10:28 Joe hit the chat he said Vaughn what is wrong with you Joe was pissed at 7.45 in the morning I'm glad you get a kick out of every time
Starting point is 00:10:38 I'm pissed it's just funny because at times Joe be mad at 7.30 in the morning it's like Joe it's alright man if he ain't know how to spell Joe, it's all right, man.
Starting point is 00:10:46 If he ain't know how to spell snub, it's okay. But he didn't ask. The snuggle nose. That's true. The snug nose. You had a jacket on in the video. Took my most violent bar and made it huggy. I bet that's your most violent bar. We all can.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Can you lie more? We all can hang out with Supreme Son. Be a real rapper and lie. Yo, what's wrong with you? I'm here. What's wrong with you? I want to chill. I like it though.
Starting point is 00:11:14 I want to chill. I like mellow Joe. I like mellow Joe. Did I introduce this shit? No, no. We were getting there. 419, man. We here.

Starting point is 00:11:46 Yeah, I don't know how to respond to compliments. Mine was a shot. Don't worry about it. Oh. I was balancing it out. He gives you the compliments. What was your shot? What did you say?
Starting point is 00:11:54 I said, is that a Polo Association? USS Polo Assassin? Nah, my man, nah. That's Polo. Don't do that. Okay. That's not Polo Association. You didn't come in here with a Polo Association shirt on. I know you didn't do that. That's Ralph. Yeah, that's Polo. Don't do that. Okay. That's not Polo Association. You didn't come in here with a Polo Association shirt on.
Starting point is 00:12:05 I know you didn't do that. That's Ralph. Yeah, that's Ralph. That better be Ralph. Let me see. That better be a horse and not a mule. Check his tag. Let me see the tag.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Check the tag. Yeah, that better be a horse and not a mule. That looks very Macy's Nordstrom. Is that a mule? Let me see. No, that's a horse. That's a horse. That's a horse.
Starting point is 00:12:24 That's a horse. That's real. That's real. It's a mule? Let me see. No, that's a horse. A mule? That's a horse. That's a horse. That's real. It's official. Whole room burst into laughter. Fucking Alex tapping Corey. They never touched each other. They never even met. Now you snuggling up.
Starting point is 00:12:37 Snug nose. Maybe you're snuggling up. So welcome to the episode. Maul is here. Rory is here. Parks is here. Jules is here. Parks is here. Jules is here. Corey is here.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Alex the Great is here. And Savon is here. How's everybody doing, man? Good, man. Good. Maul, as HR, did Erickson get his PTO days approved? How did that go? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:58 That's a good question. We settled that. We handled that. He had prior engagements that we spoke about. Everything's good. We got you. I'm just so that we spoke about. Everything's good. We got you. I'm just so not used to the freedom that we have. Wow, that's the beauty of it, though, no?
Starting point is 00:13:11 And before I get into that, shout out to the app that tolerates us, empowers us, sponsors us. Fucks with us heavies. Fucks with us. All that good shit. Best app in the world, Cash App. Y'all know the vibe.
Starting point is 00:13:25 Shout out to them. I like them. Yeah, I'm not used to this freedom, right? I think a couple days ago I was talking to y'all about just wanting to travel. Wanting to travel, do a pod somewhere. And the more I try to wrap my head around it, like... It's nice, right? I'm not used to nice things.
Starting point is 00:13:44 You know what's crazy though? I feel like we don't Like Use that enough We literally can do whatever we want And I feel like we don't do whatever we want Well a little more goes into it But I think now
Starting point is 00:13:58 Right It's a little costly Different life shit People gotta You know it's a bunch of It's a lot of hands on deck here So everybody gotta kinda be on the same page but we really could
Starting point is 00:14:06 just not drop a pod and go to Greece no absolutely well Greece is closed but I know what you're saying we can do somewhere yeah
Starting point is 00:14:14 even Long Island yeah well we're never gonna just go to Long Island but I get what he's saying never that maybe the Hamptons
Starting point is 00:14:23 I was gonna say that might be a good idea That might be a good idea That might be a good idea For the Slice area Mike we could drop a pod On Wednesday Maybe Thursday morning Depending on how we're feeling
Starting point is 00:14:33 You know what Y'all hold it down Yeah yeah yeah This will get you Through the weekend But I'm so conditioned More I mean You're still in artist mode
Starting point is 00:14:40 I'm conditioned to Like consistency Like if you're not doing it 2,000 pods born a day Like what happens then I just I never want to risk Shit like that
Starting point is 00:14:52 But I mean Consistency Build the pod though That's why Right You talking about That type of freedom Now imagine
Starting point is 00:14:58 The people that like Own like Fortune 500 companies Right Who can literally They have the jet waiting for 500 companies right who can literally they have the jet waiting for them every day they can literally get up and just go anywhere in the world to me that's like that type of lifestyle is scary but that's like i can wake up i can fly to jamaica and get beef patties and come back if i want to today that's people that live like that yeah but
Starting point is 00:15:20 that's kind of the catch-22 of the people that can afford to do that it's because they work so much and they're so consumed with work and work is their life that's true of the catch-22 of the people that can afford to do that. It's because they work so much and they're so consumed with work. And work is their life. That's true. And they love that shit. Right. Not just in a, like, they love that shit and have to constantly be working. I do love work.
Starting point is 00:15:32 I will say that. I really do love work. And it wasn't until maybe a few years ago that I even became whole with the thought of vacation and what vacation means and what it's meant to do. Like when you work hard and you're busting your ass and America is stressing you out, you might need to go sit down for a week and regroup and re-energize. And that was just a few years ago that I got with that concept. September of last year when I went to Aruba was the first vacation I'd ever been on in my 30 years of living. I can't remember the last vacation where I didn't still take my laptop and get some shit done
Starting point is 00:16:09 was yeah i mean we treated some palooza dates as vacations but i didn't consider those a vacation because men don't even really know how to just vacation totally without women i was about to say i still have never been on a vacation, like a real vacation. I've gone to nice places, but it wasn't like, I'm going to go for a week and just lay on the beach and drink pina coladas. Leave the phone at home. Yeah, I've never done that. Never. And you got to be careful if you are inviting women on your vacation or just other people on your vacation, period. inviting women on your vacation or just other people on your vacation period like i've gone on trips where it really was because i wanted rest and i wanted to get back right yeah don't
Starting point is 00:16:51 have a day full of activities planned for me why do the women want to do i'm not doing that i never understand that you go zip line alone i don't need to go downtown yeah wake up early on vacation is insane yeah waking up early on vacation is just weird. I want to wake up at night time on the beach. I would never ever want to set an alarm on vacation. Why would you do that? Bugging out on vacation. You come saying, hey, want to go to this downtown
Starting point is 00:17:16 and bring gifts back for everyone? No. I'm not thinking about anybody on vacation. It's my vacation. You don't want to bring back a seashell for your mom? Seashell. No. We can do that at the airport. I'm not thinking about anybody on vacation. It's my vacation. You don't want to bring back a seashell for your mom? Seashell. No. She don't even like shells.
Starting point is 00:17:30 Yeah, we did all that. We went to the little downtown, bought the seashell purses, all this type of shit. That shit's still sitting in the dresser in my house. My mom didn't care nothing about a seashell. Just stop at the Duty Free at the airport. Yeah, my mom tricked me one time when we went to Hawaii but it was a wedding and I had to do
Starting point is 00:17:47 the entire wedding itinerary with a bunch of people I didn't know. I was like, this is not vacation. It's just a lot of palm trees around here. Yeah, it's just nice weather.
Starting point is 00:17:55 That's all. We could have done this in New York. If I don't know nobody at your wedding, I'm not going. Facts. I better know
Starting point is 00:18:02 some of the friends. Yeah. Did we talk about that? Was that on Patreon or here? On Patreon did we talk about that was that on Patreon or here on Patreon we talked about should you
Starting point is 00:18:07 and now Rory always does it he gets the people mad they don't want to hear about Patreon I was saying I didn't want us to repeat ourselves
Starting point is 00:18:13 but no we were talking about if you have a destination wedding should you pay or should somebody else pay a little different from if I don't know anybody in your ceremony
Starting point is 00:18:22 I'm staying home yeah yeah and you end up at the stranger's table yeah it's like yeah I kind't know anybody in your ceremony, I'm staying home. Yeah. Yeah, and you end up at the stranger's table. Yeah. It's like, yeah, I kind of know someone here. How could you go to a wedding and not know somebody? No, no.
Starting point is 00:18:32 It happens. No, somebody's in the... Well, it does happen, but I mean somebody in the audience. You could go to a wedding as a date for a significant other, a friend or whatever, and... No, but if you're going to a wedding,
Starting point is 00:18:42 that's a single person. I'm saying if you know somebody that's getting married and you go, and of course you know one of the people getting married and maybe all the people you know from that relationship happen to be
Starting point is 00:18:51 in the wedding. So now you're in the audience along with everybody else and you don't know none of them. I'm not going. Oh, okay. I see what you're
Starting point is 00:19:00 saying. I'm not going. Any of those weird small talk. How do you know the bride? Yeah, yeah. I'm fine.
Starting point is 00:19:04 Got you. I'm fine with that. All right, gentlemen. Where do you know the bride? Yeah. Yeah. I'm fine. Got you. I'm fine with that. All right, gentlemen. What do you want to start? Music? Let's do it. Politics? Sports?
Starting point is 00:19:11 You pick it, huh? We can save the politics for later. The do it all. We're the do it all pod. Music. Ball, is COVID real? I'm just joking. I don't.
Starting point is 00:19:18 Come on, man. You can't. Music's true, right? Look, look, look. We mellow. Those days over. Those days over, man. We mellow over here, Parks.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Those days over. I over here parks those days over stoked the fires you know all right so new music new music bryson tiller anniversary deluxe album dropped uh four brand new songs five brand new songs my bad including uh still yours featuring big sean uh this is timeless interviewed uh interviewed timeless interlude part two and this is where Joe starts listening. Losing focus amazing. Seven o'clock amazing. Light clock work cute. I like Still Yours too though. I like it too but
Starting point is 00:19:54 I don't want to interrupt. I'll take it. Of course not to knock the Big Sean. I love Big Sean and I'm going to wear his merch more. I'm letting me be a nuggie. But yeah that seven o'clock joint. Awesome, man. I'm happy.
Starting point is 00:20:07 I'm happy. I'm happy anytime Bryson puts out music that I really enjoy. He seems like he's active again. He seems like he's gearing up to it. I'm not going to say that. Really? Why? Because active.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Well, what does active mean to you? This is his definition of being active. He just put this out in October, right? This is active for him. That's what I'm saying. The first version this out in October, right? This is active for him. That's what I'm saying. The first version came out in October, this album, right? Something like that, I think.
Starting point is 00:20:31 September, October. I mean, it's February, deluxe. So, I mean, he's more active than he's been. Yeah. So that's a good sign to me. He's more active than he's been. Yeah, it was October. And hopefully he continues to be active.
Starting point is 00:20:44 We would love to hear more music. Of course. Awesome. What did you guys think? I loved it. And I think he needed some time just because he went and did that thing that artists always make this mistake. They go and get happy. They make a mistake by getting happy?
Starting point is 00:20:57 He went and he got happy and was like, you know what? I think my mental health is more important than music that I hated at one point. But I think he's figuring out how to do both. I think too, I'm going to just blame a lot just because we can and it makes sense. Last year was different for everybody. And who knows? Bryson may have had a bunch of plans for last year, as I'm sure everybody did at one point. And the world changed.
Starting point is 00:21:22 as I'm sure everybody did at one point. And, you know, the world changed. But I'm just happy that he seems like he's just being more into his craft and into the art again. Because he is talented, and we talk about it a lot. We just feel like he doesn't put enough of his shit out. This is one of the few examples with a deluxe album where I'm actually kind of excited to go back and listen to the album because I feel like it wasn't for me
Starting point is 00:21:45 at that time so I want to revisit it and this gives me a reason to it was dope it was a real good album I like it
Starting point is 00:21:52 I'm not mad at the deluxe if it's like maybe people didn't really hear this album like they should have here's some more to stoke some interest did you listen to
Starting point is 00:22:00 all 83 records of the Gibbs and Madlib deluxe no wait Gibbs and which one of the Gibbs and Madlib Deluxe? No. Wait, Gibbs and... Which one? Of the first one. I don't know if I remember that one. Can you pull up
Starting point is 00:22:11 the actual title screen, man? It's Pinata. There you go, Pinata. Yeah, they put out 83 records off it, Deluxe, some loosies in there, instrumentals, remixes, but yeah, it's 83 songs now.
Starting point is 00:22:21 When did they do that? Today. Oh, really? Yeah. Oh, shit. That's too much shit. It's a lot of instrumentals. It's a lot of remixes to the other shit.
Starting point is 00:22:30 I get it, man. Streaming era. Let's put Mad Records here and up the streaming numbers. Madlib's beat tapes used to be 100 songs. This is a Madlib thing. I understand it. But has that worked for many artists? I get it with an instrumental album or something like this
Starting point is 00:22:47 where it's mostly one-minute instrumentals or stuff like that. I'm not tripping off it. I'm not sure that I'll go through everything a million times or anything like that, but I get it. Because people do, especially lo-fi beats, is a big genre that people put on in the background. I didn't even really know that. And you were saying, does this work for artists
Starting point is 00:23:02 as in putting a bunch of records in the streaming area? Yeah, to kind of... Yeah, to some degree. I mean, the more time a user is on an album, it ups the algorithms. It gets the shit front-facing, if you will. It does. The more time you spend on something, the more an app will make your shit priority.
Starting point is 00:23:23 The only person I think I've noticed that that may have worked for was Chris Brown. It definitely worked for Chris Brown. I don't know if it worked for anybody else. Not in the degree it did for Chris just because Chris is a fucking superstar. But yeah, it's a way to get around that algorithm shit. Okay. Got it.
Starting point is 00:23:39 I'm not listening to this. 83 Tracks? Of course you're not. I still didn't listen to all of the dream when he put out the sex tapes three shit oh yeah that was just a whole bunch of it was some joints on there don't get it twisted but it was just like too when you're just looking at all of that the track listings and the music that shit just gives me anxiety i'm not gonna make it but that's what bothers me that artists are looking at that model where a bunch of records will help them in streaming. And it goes against the music.
Starting point is 00:24:10 Now you're just going to put out some shit you probably wouldn't put out. Let me add this to the album, even though I would have just kept this in the tuck. Right. Like I said, with this, I get it. Because Madlib, literally, he used to put out three or four instrumental tapes every couple months. And there would be a million beats on them. I'm saying for the Dream Project. Because I felt like, more, there were some joints on there. I'm saying for the Dream Project because I felt like
Starting point is 00:24:25 more there was some joints on there and if you cut it even more fuck half a third we back on a Dream Classic conversation.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Here's a stupid question for you guys or a very generic question. What is you guys favorite song right now? Favorite song right now? That's a good question. That's a great question.
Starting point is 00:24:43 I don't feel like I've been listening to a lot of music in the last month. Favorite song right now? That's a good question. That's a great question. I don't feel like I've been listening to a lot of music in the last month. Favorite song right now? Okay. There hasn't been much. All right. Well, the last favorite song that you had.
Starting point is 00:24:54 Loop on that one. See, that's interesting to me. That question, that's such a simple, generic question. I thought it might be pretty difficult. That's a difficult question. I came on here a few weeks ago and talked about my favorite song at the moment, which is that Tempest record that I played here and went crazy over. And boy, am I glad that music, for me at least,
Starting point is 00:25:18 is starting to cut through. Currency album dropped. Yep. Currency album dropped. Yes, sir. He works hard man he puts out a lot of music collection agency
Starting point is 00:25:27 sounds good man I like it I didn't get a chance to listen to it yet sounds real good yeah that'll be that'll be on my list this weekend
Starting point is 00:25:36 I'll listen to it yeah I saw Jermaine Dupri put out a tweet saying what that he was really excited I don't was he talking about
Starting point is 00:25:44 currency or another yes okay yeah he was really excited i don't was he talking about currency or another artist okay he was really excited that an artist that he admires named a song after him because most most times that happens after an artist dies so he was he was really happy about that he said he's geeking out i thought that was dope because i do think people as we say get their flowers while they're here that's a uh that's a real flattering thing for artists to do. Especially when, like you said, the artist is still alive and they can hear that.
Starting point is 00:26:11 I didn't see this tweet from Jermaine Dupri, but that's dope that he liked the fact that Currency did that. Yeah, that's love. Yeah, I like it. Any other music come out? I'll be honest I'm
Starting point is 00:26:26 I was exhausted this morning I didn't necessarily look I look for y'all because y'all find artists that I didn't even know drop shit it wasn't a lot I think the only things I copped was Currency
Starting point is 00:26:36 I bought Currency I bought Bryson I brought the new Tank record the remake of the maxwell song um dj mugs and roam streets put out a album i'll play it for the old heads here we go oh my god see i'm trying to go shut up let me shut up who the picked this snare to stay here they had to put something over the actual song it works better when the beat drops yeah it sounds better when the beat drops
Starting point is 00:27:25 could have just left the actual this woman's work and then just. Yeah. That snare with no drums on the big. Oh, no, no, no, no. You don't like that? I'm trying to get in my sexy vibe. It's the 80s snare. Here they come with the. No, we're in 2021. Yo, the 80s snare is tricky.
Starting point is 00:27:43 The 80s snare is tricky. Hey, last podcast, Rory came in here. He played a song for me in Parks. He said he was iffy about these drums. I love the drums. I loved them. But it was that snare that could get weird if it's done wrong. That snare shouldn't have been right there in that Tank record.
Starting point is 00:28:01 So that record came out. And that's all the music that i know about came out um lucy's uh freddie lucy uh jd lucy uh pop spoke lucy joyce rice and gibbs put out something oh yeah it was a gibbs friday okay gibbs gave us 125 songs this friday niggas be hype over that Grammy nom, right? Over that what? That Grammy nom. What happened to the Grammys?
Starting point is 00:28:31 They were like, yo, we pushing them. That's a good question. We'll get back at y'all later. The Grammys is, yeah. They coming? Yeah, it's happening. If I'm Royce Gibbs and them, I'm pissed. Nah, keep that shit.
Starting point is 00:28:44 Shit. Yeah, nah. You rush Shit. Yeah, nah. Give me my shit. Yeah, we want that shit to happen. Hold on a second. Keep it where it was at. Stop pushing this shit. I saw this announcement.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak announced. And Bootsy Collins. Oh, yeah, and Bootsy Collins announced new album as Silk Sonic. Bootsy Collins is on one song. You know, just a guest appearance. Oh, okay. My bad. Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak
Starting point is 00:29:05 announce a group and a project do we know when this project is coming? March 5th? right around the corner first single is March 5th with the rest of the record arriving on an as yet unannounced date
Starting point is 00:29:20 yeah this might be the greatest album of all time I'm not going to hold you to this this was great news announced date. Yeah, this might be the greatest album of all time. Yeah. I'm not going to hold you to this. This was great news to see pop up on the Instagram. I would have never expected something that makes
Starting point is 00:29:33 so much sense. Right. From the music business. Right. They said they were touring together, which I don't remember, but I, you know.
Starting point is 00:29:42 Oh my, that's going to be the greatest tour ever. No, they said they were touring together Oh It says in 2017 I'm sure Pac was opening up for them Or whatever
Starting point is 00:29:47 God damn it So that's how I guess the album probably came about Yeah the up tempo shit That the two of these guys together Are gonna do This is This is funny
Starting point is 00:29:55 A little different During the Super Bowl Which I do every year We compare past Super Bowl performances I thought about Bruno Mars When The Weeknd was performing Oh I thought you didn't watch Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:30:06 Just half time. I had to watch that, Brady. And I thought, I was like, what's up with Bruno Mars? I was like, haven't heard from him. So when I saw this,
Starting point is 00:30:14 I was like, okay. There it is. There it is right there. Lay low, do some incredible shit that might change the whole sound of music
Starting point is 00:30:22 for the next two. This kind of feels like it might be the nars barkley thing i can see it so i'm gonna ask y'all something that i've just learned not to ever ask in the music business but here i go setting myself up again where's all my money there you go no this can't be whack right no impossible right impossible it's too much it's too much musical geniuses musical minds i know better than this trap i know better than this i know what you're saying don't don't go into it wanting it to sound away in your head that you just don't do that these two care about music too much because i'm going into it expecting I can hear it in my head already It's too late Here we go
Starting point is 00:31:07 They gave us the leather cover I can hear it You know what I'm saying Let's not try to gauge What we think it will sound like I think it will sound Pac-ish I feel like Pac-ish
Starting point is 00:31:21 Anderson If they redid Hail Mary I'm listening I feel like... Packish. Oh, Packish. Tupac? Anderson. Anderson, Pac. I would... If they redid Hail Mary, I'm listening. Oh, man. Throw some up-tempo drums on Hail Mary. Bruno's last shit was 24K, right? Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Which is a classic. Whatever. 24K or Magic, right? Whatever. Forget it. Whatever it's called. Classic. Classic.
Starting point is 00:31:41 And that was like super 80s out. I can't see him going that route again. So I would see him picking up the, what's the band? Free Nationals. Free Nationals and Anderson and kind of go in that lane. Yeah, as industry plantish as this would appear to be just because they're two very big stars, well, Bruno being a superstar yeah still if this
Starting point is 00:32:06 feels music ish to me well what's industry plantage about two stars putting two stars together is kind of industry planished no i think these two really fuck with each other no i'm saying i think in this degree this feels like a music decision yeah not not a fame decision right let's let's align our our fan bases together and we'll be cool Atlantic Records has an Instagram I thought you'd run it I don't yeah he uses that sparkly emoji a lot
Starting point is 00:32:30 definitely Joe dropped the sparkly emoji I've never used that oh okay Silk Sonic is a great name for a band yeah Silk Sonic
Starting point is 00:32:38 and for Dick and the stripper now coming to the stage yeah Silk Sonic Joe walked through the crowd holding his pineapple just like excuse excuse me, excuse me. Buttass. Are you saying that's my stripper name?
Starting point is 00:32:50 No, I'm saying when you hear Silk Sonic is coming to the stage, no, you're not Silk Sonic. You might be Silk Sonic. Remember the first time we seen me in Starlets? You was with me? Was it Starlets? I don't think it was Starlets. It was the other joint in Queens. No, it was Starlets.
Starting point is 00:33:02 Was it? It had to be Starlets, yeah. Well, maybe it was the other joint, but remember the first time we seen him? What did you guys think? Oh, it was Starlets. Was it? It had to be Starlets, yeah. Well, maybe it was the other joint, but remember the first time we seen her? What did you guys think? Oh, my God. Seeing who? Great personality.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Work of art. Her personality. It's amazing. Her personality was a work of art. It really shines on that stage. It was glowing. Yeah, on that stage. Oh, God, she's a star.
Starting point is 00:33:18 She had the intangibles. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You can't write it down. I look at her, I say, Ooh, baby. Gotta get you home with me tonight. This is when I was broke. I threw 200 up there.
Starting point is 00:33:36 Like, that was going to entice her. That was a good night. You throw that 200? She could never say no to this. That was a good night. She told the the bartenders, yeah, you can pick that up if you want. Hey, I threw that 200.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Talk about something. You. You now. But it was like, all right. Wait. You going to be right there? You going to be there now? I'll come right around.
Starting point is 00:34:01 Joe was right there now. Joe ain't moved. I'm here. I didn't. Left 200 said, there now Hey Joe ain't moved I'm here I didn't Left 200 said There's more where this came from Oh my god I got another 100
Starting point is 00:34:10 In reserve I got another 50 If you want to come back Why don't you stick around Afterward And I'll leave with you Alright I will wait Three hours
Starting point is 00:34:18 Yeah I will I will wait till 7am Out here I'm gonna take a nap In the car if I have to Shout out to Mia man I've been trying to find her On car if I have to. Shout out to Mia, man. I've been trying to find her on Instagram.
Starting point is 00:34:26 I didn't see her. Yeah, shout out to Mia. Listeners will find her. I like Mia. No, they won't. They find everybody. They be trying. All right, what's going on?
Starting point is 00:34:34 Why is this up here? We never talked about this. I didn't like that King James is trying to steal my sauce. Come on, man. I mean, you're inspired, right? Yo, how do you think Rory's going to feel
Starting point is 00:34:46 after his album drops? Can I ask y'all that? That's a good question. Relieved. I feel like so sonic. I feel relieved. Yeah? How close to you are you?
Starting point is 00:34:56 I might just call it trash, but I'll still be relieved. How close to done are you? Percentage-wise, if you had to. 95. Okay. Yeah. 97. So is's done it's there you're just waiting for some gloss yeah not worried at all about how the album delivery process can fuck with your psyche and your mental not worried at all about uh how maybe your mental could be affected after
Starting point is 00:35:22 the album drops by let's say either criticism or fan reaction, label pressure, just not worried about anything? Just only focused on the creative stuff? No, I kept that in mind. Are you worried about being discouraged for the next one? Oh, I've been discouraged for the past year. I hate it. Why? Because I hate everything.
Starting point is 00:35:43 And then I live with something I love, and then I hate it. I hate everything Why? Because I hate everything And then I live with something I love And then I hate it That's why Like Just
Starting point is 00:35:47 I was talking to Latrice the other day Maul Our mutual friend Latrice Shout out to Latrice His family Yeah Just take
Starting point is 00:35:55 Y'all just gotta take the album Just take it away from me The first Just take it from me Because I'll work on this For another three years The first album is very tricky Like that
Starting point is 00:36:03 Yeah And things that are amazing have been sitting in my SoundCloud for four months. I'm over them, but I shouldn't think that way. You started trying to retool some shit that was already good. Yeah, but to your point, that's why I tried. My strategy was, let me finish
Starting point is 00:36:17 the entire project. Let me shoot, because I'm shooting a little podcast series around it as well. Let me shoot everything. Let me finish everything before the first single even goes out out just so I could just hit press play. Because if I start focusing on what people say, I may want to start changing things. Like, nah, fuck that. Fuck this. Just let me turn everything in.
Starting point is 00:36:37 And then all we hit is upload. Let's do the first single, second single. Let's put out the podcast shit. Let's do it. I can't change nothing. Yeah, I don't know how intentional it is on your part i just i but i'm i don't know i feel like it would be nice for people to hear more from you on your experience putting out your debut i mean you only get one yeah like i'm watching you you're flying all around back and forth studio sessions this artist
Starting point is 00:37:03 that artist you're reaching out to people. You're doing a lot. It's been exhausting. I'm kind of over it. Enjoy it. Yeah. I can better answer these questions once things start coming out. We'll revisit this once. No, you'll be rebellious
Starting point is 00:37:22 by then. In what capacity? You won't be happy about anything in life by then and you won't want to answer any questions No, you'll be rebellious by then. In what capacity? You won't be happy about anything in life by then, and you won't want to answer any questions. Or you'll be thrilled if everyone loves you. Hold on, wait. That's where I'm at now. It can only go down from here. Right.
Starting point is 00:37:36 But Rory's got good music on his shit. He does. He does, yeah. We shot some content, and he played the project. He got some joints in there. We shot some content and he played the project. He got some joints in there. Yeah, I had this idea of, which is coming soon,
Starting point is 00:37:51 regardless whether I like it or not. I had this idea of doing like a podcast series around each record. And instead of doing the typical doc shit, we're in the studio creating it. I was like, all right, a way to ease fans in that know me from podcast to music is let's take bars and certain writing topics from each song
Starting point is 00:38:09 and make that the podcast topic. So we're not even really talking about the music. We're just talking about the subject matter of that song. And we had some
Starting point is 00:38:16 funny conversations, some deep conversations, some crazy conversations, talked to a bunch of great people, sat with Maul, Parks, and DZA, which was a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:38:24 It was cool. I'm excited, just equally as excited to put the visual portion of the other podcast shit out. Shout out to DZA too. Yeah, DZA's great.
Starting point is 00:38:33 For sure. Did LeBron A&R your project? Because if not, then it's probably trash. Rory A&R, executive produced, produced, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:41 My love for music is more insane than LeBron's. I don't care if he puts it in capital letters on Twitter I can tell you're really depressed during this process
Starting point is 00:38:48 I can tell your love is there you got a really big team and y'all need some really big rings maybe he could do the deluxe though that's his bag
Starting point is 00:38:57 yo I never even a deluxe yeah wow never even thought about that how many slaps you think you got on you? I don't think there's a skip.
Starting point is 00:39:10 Didn't answer the slap question. A skip and a slap is two different. You know what? Let's move on, man. I played y'all a little slap the other day. It slapped? I've heard a few slaps. I mean, I don't know which one you're talking about.
Starting point is 00:39:24 Yeah. Well, anyways, coming soon. I'm that guy. Looking forward to it. Bitch. All right, so LeBron. LeBron is A&R-ing something, right? Something.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Or he's not. Or he did. My love for music is insane. He's thinking out loud. Look at Devon Terrell begging. Shout out to Devon Terrell. That's my guy. He's dope.
Starting point is 00:39:42 My love for music is insane. I think I'm going to do an album. Oh, no, I won't. Oh, no, I won't. Oh, no. I won't be rapping. I like him, too. No, I like him, too. Who?
Starting point is 00:39:52 He performed at a live podcast, right? Yeah. That's my guy. That's my man. But that's begging. He's shooting a shot. Which is begging. But you can't shoot your shot with the Kim Kardashian meme.
Starting point is 00:40:06 Devont, fam. Oh, I didn't't even see that i was stuck on the ask first of all tell lebron you got a 16 is come on man come on that's in fucking saying i mean two chains did it it was nasty when he did it i know we love two chains i love him too but that was nasty too it was nastier wait did 2 Chainz tell LeBron to end the 16 that's not true I'm joking no he just
Starting point is 00:40:29 he asked him to it was nasty when 2 Chainz took off 2 of his chains at Stapleson and gave them to LeBron that was disgusting I didn't see that
Starting point is 00:40:36 he was trying to market to the basketball fans what happened you have a podcast it's popular we talked about this it's the 31st best podcast in the world yes I'm asking you he took off two of his chains we talked about this it's the 31st best podcast in the world
Starting point is 00:40:46 yes I'm asking you he took off two of his chains and gave them to LeBron like right after the game oh it was chaining day no it wasn't chaining it was a regular day it was a game
Starting point is 00:40:55 I don't know but you're not allowed to be mad at this why your squad invented chaining people but you're not chaining
Starting point is 00:41:04 LeBron it wasn't like here we are it wasn't it wasn't a emblem or a logo Your squad invented chaining people. But you're not chaining. Yeah, we have done. It wasn't like it was. Here we are. It wasn't an emblem or a logo. It was just two diamond chains. And you've never chained us. Yeah. What's up with that?
Starting point is 00:41:14 I've never chained you. You've never came on this pod and chained the three of us. Yeah, you're right. Damn. I'm going to change that. But why do you think he did that to Bronny? He didn't do it to Bronny. He did it to LeBron. Oh, big Bron. Why do you think he did that to Bronny? He didn't do it to Bronny. He did it to LeBron.
Starting point is 00:41:26 Oh, big Bron. Why do you think he did that to Bron? That's why it's nasty. He was A&R-ing this project. Don't do that. Yeah, let me try to.
Starting point is 00:41:35 That's nasty, bro. Let me try to remember what happened. Let me try to harken back. The game was over. I can tell you what happened. No, no, no. LeBron had just
Starting point is 00:41:40 achieved a milestone. I don't think it was even a milestone. He just won. It was a milestone. The Lakers won. That's a milestone. Okay. They won it was even a milestone. It was a milestone. The Lakers won. That's a milestone. They won the game.
Starting point is 00:41:48 Two chains. I was happy they won. He couldn't swap jerseys. I was happy they won. He swapped chains. Yeah, but you don't do that while he's still... First of all, LeBron couldn't even put it on. He had to hold it in his hand.
Starting point is 00:41:59 It just was... Look, that's nasty. He passed that shit off like that was a dope show. He did that shit expeditiously. Yeah, like, come on, man. Why don't you speed out the seat? Yeah, that was nasty. Stop, 2 Chainz is going to shoot me, man.
Starting point is 00:42:13 I love 2 Chainz. I love 2 Chainz. I guarantee you 2 Chainz looks back at that and was like, yeah, I maybe should have did that. Well, he had enough chains on to give him 2 Chainz. His name was 2 Chainz. If your name is 2 Chainz, you can give somebody one. Do you think LeBron wore that chain anywhere? No.
Starting point is 00:42:28 You think he just got it in his house chilling? Like in a frame? Like a gift? He probably got that on the- Rappers do be nasty for athletes, but that's okay. Right? No, but that's LeBron. Rappers and athletes do it to each other.
Starting point is 00:42:40 It's nasty equally. But it's LeBron. This is the biggest athlete argument in the world. No, relax. Rest in peace, Kobe. I remember about a two-year stretch when he was trying
Starting point is 00:42:49 to get verses for niggas. No, verses? I'm not talking about rap. Jewelry? I remember he was... Giving LeBron jewelry is crazy. This is LeBron.
Starting point is 00:42:58 I can't speak on that. I don't wear jewelry. I don't know the sentiment there. I'd have to ask Chase. No, I'm just saying this is LeBron. LeBron probably has that same exact jewelry. Yo, Joe. Come on, man. I got you. ask Chainz. No, I'm just saying, this is LeBron. LeBron probably has that same exact chain. Yo, Joe,
Starting point is 00:43:06 come on, man. I got you. Oh, man, look at that. I'll take this, bro. This shit'll tell you your heartbeat, too. Rory, I wouldn't ever tell you. Yeah, that chain is not going to tell two chains LeBron's pulse. That's yours now. I'm going to switch the band on the Michael Kors. That's yours, bro. You got the Michael
Starting point is 00:43:21 Sport Kors. He told you live, you know what I'm saying? Live. Those Velcros ain't cheap, Yo if I knew Rory wore this watch I would have been knocked him out You can't knock a nigga out Bitch You know what you can't What's with your wrist
Starting point is 00:43:35 Like that you wearing I'll knock you the fuck out Come here Come on take a dance Tell me you wouldn't have knocked him It's an Apple watch man It's an Apple watch He wants to know his steps.
Starting point is 00:43:45 Listen, I... I like how my shit tells me when to stand. I'm telling you. Wait, does it not work? It only works on your wrist? It maybe just died. I don't know. That's the most useless thing I've ever had on my wrist.
Starting point is 00:43:54 And I used to wear rubber bands on my wrist all the time. But why are you wearing with the blue and lime green colorway? Well, you can't see that. That's on the inside. Only the inner wrist can see that. Yeah, you got to look from a certain point of view to see that. That shit is ass. I ain't even going home.
Starting point is 00:44:11 See why he went through it. Yikes. No home training on receiving bad gifts. You're supposed to just pretend like you like it and then throw it away later. Get a sexy one. Oh, that was a gift. No, I'm saying I gifted this to you. Oh, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:44:22 No, this was a gift. No, no, no. This was a gift. No, please. No, thank you. No, thank you. Thank you. Please, no, no, no. No, this was a gift. No, no, no. This was a gift. No, please. No, thank you. No, thank you. Thank you. Please, please.
Starting point is 00:44:27 That's for you. That's old Joe swag. New Joe would never. All right, so I don't have anything to say about LeBron A&R, and I'm happy for him. Kudos. Yeah, he should put it out. No, he could probably put it together with his relationship. Oh, shit, he is.
Starting point is 00:44:42 Put the album out that's just like Rory's. That's what I was saying. He was stealing my sauce. I forgot about that. That's how we got on that topic. Yeah. Wow. But I actually produced them.
Starting point is 00:44:52 See? Wow. Already throwing shots. Are you producer shaming? And I think mine's going to be better. If you call a bunch of famous people, it doesn't mean it's going to be good. That's true.
Starting point is 00:45:00 It helps. It helps. It sets you off in the right direction, for sure. I can afford all the people that are really good. Listen, I'm not mad. The way R off in the right direction, for sure. I can afford all the people that are really good. Listen, I'm not mad. The way Rory talking to LeBron, man.
Starting point is 00:45:08 I hope him and Cal Deon came up with it. You hope they got another one? Hey, the way that he talking to the king. Yeah. Hope Cal really went in there and did his thing. Hope you and the oranges made a couple slaps. Kyle, I hope you can out Chris Brown,
Starting point is 00:45:26 Chris Brown. Yeah, that's a fact. Because when Chris get to singing for LeBron. Yeah, my head a little different. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:45:33 yeah. My head a little different on that Metro Boomin beat than on the Rory drums. You know Rory ain't got no Metro Boomin on his shit. Nah. Metro thud.
Starting point is 00:45:42 I was talking. I like the shot. I liked it. I was talking. I like the shot. I liked it. I was talking to Just yesterday. And I never bring up my friends when I'm talking to people, but I don't know why in this moment I felt like it was appropriate. You know, Just is cool with Rory Moss. I'm like, you know, man, did Rory hit you about his album?
Starting point is 00:45:59 Because you got to get something on there. Oh, I appreciate that. And Just was like, Justin, what me like me no i said no i meant like somebody from your label like one of your acts and he said yeah man rory reached out to me but i told him like my artists don't move for nothing but the money and i was like i get that i guess no uh what makes sense to that justice shot on my podcast when we went out to LA. But no, I've hit Justice more for like EO stuff and other stuff. I didn't have anything.
Starting point is 00:46:32 I want to wait on those type of things. I'm not running to my friends like, yo, get Summer on this just to get Summer on this. Nothing felt right yet for it. But yeah, no, Justice came. Justice listened to the whole album on camera, told me what was trash, told me what was good. It was a great conversation we had. You should probably find something
Starting point is 00:46:51 that feels right for someone, though. I don't understand what you guys say. I didn't come up with nothing yet for Mike Jack. No, because... It's Michael Jackson, man. Just let him go. Yeah, just let him go.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Give him something to go in there and do what he want to do. No, I get the joke you're saying, though, but with a lot of artists, when they're that far in the world, you only get one shot, one opportunity to seize everything you want. But once they hear your name and they don't like the first one, they're probably not going to listen the second time. So if I don't even like it,
Starting point is 00:47:19 I'm not just going to send something to an artist because I know them. That's where me and Jhené went wrong. Just sent her everything? I sent her 20 trash beefs. See? You started flooding the inbox. That's where the truth of the matter. That's where the real crux of the beef was born.
Starting point is 00:47:37 Oh, man. I was sending her mad bullshit. I'm like, yo, if you just do your little croon thing in this spot. Croon thing in this spot oh yeah croon thing in this spot hey no email
Starting point is 00:47:49 got sent back to me just that scene yeah delivered a lot of delivers yeah
Starting point is 00:47:55 hit you back with I live with this yeah it didn't do anything to me
Starting point is 00:48:01 on the first play or the second play yeah I'll go back to it That's when I managed it She just takes a really long time
Starting point is 00:48:08 To write Oh my god She takes a really long time To write Except for like Fire the intermediate She put out five projects She's written five
Starting point is 00:48:16 She's got another one coming I'm kidding of course What'd you do when Justice called your shit trash? Oh you didn't call The whole thing trash at all. It was one song that I liked a lot. He was like, no, this shouldn't be on here at all. Which I appreciate, because I really appreciate Justice's ear.
Starting point is 00:48:36 Of course. Yeah, it was the same day. That was the exact day that a gentleman approached me about Maul and his podcasting with certain women. Same night. I don't know if I ever heard that song. approached me about Maul and his his podcasting with certain women same night hmm so I don't know if I ever heard that so I love when I get to lean back
Starting point is 00:48:50 no no no we told it ain't got nothing to do with you nah it's all love with my shit right here nah tell it to your audience no we
Starting point is 00:48:57 I told that story I was I went from one studio to another and tell your man stop talking about my girl. Oh, that.
Starting point is 00:49:05 Yeah. That's what I'm saying. It's all love. Thought you had something new, man. You know, it's all love. All right. Twitter announces paid super follows to let you charge for tweets. Twitter announced a pair of big upcoming features today.
Starting point is 00:49:19 Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Whatever. The payment feature called super follows will allow twitter users to charge followers and give them access to extra content that could be bonus tweets access to a community group subscription to a newsletter or a badge indicating your support it's twitter tree on in a mock in a mock-up screenshot twitter showed an example where a user charges 4.99 per month to receive a series of perks twitter sees it as a twitter sees it as a way to let creators and publishers get paid directly by their fans i do want to read a little bit of that next paragraph go back uh direct payment tools have
Starting point is 00:50:00 become increasingly important for creators all Alright. Patreon has been hugely successful on other platforms including Facebook, YouTube, and even GitHub. Not familiar with that one. Have all launched direct creator payment features. They're probably a billion dollar company.
Starting point is 00:50:19 We just don't even know. Gentlemen, this is a very interesting thing that's happening. It is. Maybe a lot to unpack here how do you guys feel about this you're absolutely right uh more and more people are starting to get with this type of subscription program um so uh people can be able to charge the fans uh i don't need to repeat it again, but we've seen articles. I think I read one from Spotify that says something was coming.
Starting point is 00:50:49 Might have been some rumblings of some other people coming to market with the same type of idea. Yeah, everybody. Isn't Clubhouse putting a direct tip thing, potentially? I'm not mad at it, because it's essentially the same thing
Starting point is 00:51:04 that we're doing like hey you can look at this stuff for free if you want or if you want to throw down we'll give you some more shit
Starting point is 00:51:10 I'm not mad at it it's not forcing people to pay for tweets but if you want to pay for tweets you can get some other shit it's just an option I find it interesting
Starting point is 00:51:18 with what we know about advertisers and how they benefit off social media of just literally selling our data to advertising companies everyone is going subscription based which takes away the advertising well so i am this is the conversation that i've alluded to is it because they put zuckerberg times in the last month is the apple verse facebook fight it's fucking huge because it's data versus subscription slash ownership.
Starting point is 00:51:46 Apple is trying to make it so apps like Facebook and probably Spotify and all these companies that allow you to work for free or use for free can't do it anymore. And do you think there's anything to do with them putting Zuckerberg on the stand, Mad Times, putting Jack there, trying to change? It has everything to do with the fact
Starting point is 00:52:04 that these companies are doing shit with our data without our permission and profiting immensely off it and then buying everybody else out and allowing zero competition. Yeah. I'm just curious if this is the way everything is going to start going and then what happens to
Starting point is 00:52:19 advertising? It's a good question. And it's the question of, are you okay with people taking your data and selling it and profiting off it? Or would you rather
Starting point is 00:52:28 just pay people? Because this is probably advertising. Where does the advertising exist in Twitter now as it relates to the users? It's there, but it's not.
Starting point is 00:52:38 And, and they can profit or tweet sometimes, you know, Jack denied it. And I wouldn't, I use a third party app I use tweetlogix
Starting point is 00:52:47 but what we've known is that these social media apps and companies sell our data and that's how they profit off of it I think this may be more of a experiment to see how easy they could just go to subscription base for Twitter period
Starting point is 00:53:02 because I think they're running into that where they're going to start putting laws and really delegating how these companies are taking our data and what they're doing with it. That's become a major thing. So I think this easing into everything we do is going to be subscription-based may happen. Not anytime soon,
Starting point is 00:53:21 but I think eventually we may get there. I think that the answer, again, is always my thing, lies somewhere in the middle. There probably should be some data collection-free, teary stuff that happens in the world, and there should probably be some subscription stuff that happens in the world, and it's okay for both to exist. Same way in politics where there should be the left and there should be the right. There should be opposing viewpoints coming together and coming up with something that works for everybody.
Starting point is 00:53:46 But how do y'all feel this will affect the landscape? And I'm asking y'all because we're involved now. We both would actually. If y'all are seeing, we did. And the NBA. Kyrie's right. But if you've been just seeing some of the feedback, even since we started our Patreon, it's like you start a paywall and then immediately
Starting point is 00:54:08 there's war. Yeah. People are so conditioned to everything being free. Yeah. Well, people are going to have to condition themselves in other ways now, and I understand that being problematic for some. But, so, in a hypothetical world, we have
Starting point is 00:54:23 Twitter with Twitter subscription based patreon uh spotify uh let's say there's a world where apple is doing this apple music is you pay 10 bucks a month and apple tv and apple fitness and apple News. Thank you. And let's pretend there's a world where Apple is doing this. This, not that. Oh, you're saying the availability to have free and also a subscription. Yeah, who knows?
Starting point is 00:54:54 I mean, if we're seeing all of these companies do that, I have to assume that that's the new wave. Yeah. I'm not certain. I don't know if I've seen anything like that from Amazon, but I wouldn't be surprised if that follows there. But how does that look? How does that look, especially from a consumer experience, I'm asking?
Starting point is 00:55:12 I think they just leverage all their good content by teasing it to the free shit and just try to make people buy the shit. Of course. I don't think they focus on it and make the free experience a good one. And I do think that this is all a huge long-term plan by media companies and everyone, essentially. When Napster came through and crushed the building, so everything for free,
Starting point is 00:55:35 now we've got to condition people gradually back into paying for shit. Same thing with cable news and stuff like that. People don't watch TV or subscribe to TV at the same rate, so they did a whole bunch of online shit shit and that's all based on ads and, uh, data. And now they're going to condition you back into paying for the fucking CNN and conditioning people to not look at commercials.
Starting point is 00:55:56 Someone that keeps talking about YouTube premium all the time. I'm conditioned that way. Now I hate the ads. So I pay to not do that. Yeah. Well, yeah, YouTube has the free and correct yeah
Starting point is 00:56:07 it's all about because like they said wait hold up real quick more rory i'm but i'm not talking about free and subscription for platform i'm talking about free or probably not free but free and subscription for creator on these okay okay okay see what you're saying that's what i'm saying go ahead gotcha gotcha gotcha no i saying like, you know, back to what they were talking about doing like now with homes and in your home, you might only
Starting point is 00:56:31 see certain commercials because now they have data from your Wi-Fi, things you're downloading, things you're looking at. So they're only going to market certain commercials to you in different homes.
Starting point is 00:56:42 So like we won't all see the same commercials anymore. We don't even on our phones right now on our algorithms. Hell no. The same ads don't pop up. Talk about some shit.
Starting point is 00:56:49 It'll pop up on your Instagram. I was about to say it. Say Accenture right now. It'll be on your IG in a minute. I remember at first when we started first hearing about these things we was like,
Starting point is 00:56:56 what are they trying to do? And now it's a normal thing. Like we know what's happening. Like you just said, say something and you know it's going to pop up on your phone. No question. Two, three years ago
Starting point is 00:57:04 that scared us to thought of that. Like what? It's conditioning. They're something and you know it's gonna pop up on your phone no question two three years ago that scared us the thought of that like what they're definitely listening now it's nothing it's like we laugh when we see it now
Starting point is 00:57:10 like look see it's right here but what does it do we understand what the platforms are gearing up for we think but what does it do
Starting point is 00:57:17 for the actual content creators to their strategizing right like I would imagine like for me as as a rapper, I hated to even promote albums. I hated to promote anything.
Starting point is 00:57:31 But why? Art. Back to the old art thing. Art, you should look at if you want it, you get it. The whole integrity thing. I shouldn't have to sell it to you. I'm not forcing anybody to, you know. I just never felt comfortable doing that so
Starting point is 00:57:45 here we are in this subscription land right am i am i as a content creator am i putting my shit everywhere that this service is available and ultimately asking every one of my fans everywhere to pay for anything i do i could see content creators having a problem with that no i mean it could get sticky, which is why I think the middle ground is the best because right now it's a great time for creators because you can put stuff out and get a fan base and get a following and build it essentially for free.
Starting point is 00:58:15 I mean, maybe not to the creator. You got to pay for studio time, whatever it may be. But if everything's behind a paywall, it's difficult to get traction again. Now you're back to the old way. The music business used to work, kind of. Well, this kind of goes back to that conversation you and I were having where I was saying with certain artists that are coming up,
Starting point is 00:58:32 yeah, the only option for you to promote your music is for it to be free. Yeah. Because you're trying to get new subscribers, new listeners, and someone that doesn't know. No, I'm not paying $10 for an album that I don't know is going to be great. What do you charge for a podcast, Rory? An episode or a month? An episode.
Starting point is 00:58:51 Hmm. Everything kind of has been monthly basis. I know that would break down into episodes. It'll break down anyway. Yeah. All right, so do a month. A buck. I think.
Starting point is 00:59:00 A dollar? A buck. I think $10 a month would maybe make sense if you're doing two... It's about a dollar. Yeah, it's about a buck. A dollar 25, somewhere around there, more.
Starting point is 00:59:09 Yeah, around the same. Audio, right? Sure. Audio, yes. Audio. Yeah, absolutely. Or maybe visual, a little more.
Starting point is 00:59:16 Yeah, maybe, I don't know, you know. Audio, yes. That would make it tough for lesser known podcasters. Exactly. It would. And same with musicians or anyone creating anything.
Starting point is 00:59:27 Yeah. To get your shit out there. You can eventually do it when you have that core fan base or a huge fan base that's like, all right, well, I'll just go where y'all are going. This goes back to the easier now. To do that is the free shit. Easier now versus then conversation.
Starting point is 00:59:39 Because as someone who was selling music out of the trunk of my car, for lack of a better term, prior to the internet being a major thing i would sell way less shit and get way less coverage and way less press but i made way more money so but even like the people like remember when you used to walk in tom square yo you like hip-hop you like hip-hop yo buy my cd yeah well that was still that was still happening when kendrick was putting out free music and I was like,
Starting point is 01:00:06 these guys, they're going to die and I don't mean die physically but their music is going to die because people are still trying to sell music right now and I can get one of the greatest new rappers for free.
Starting point is 01:00:16 Yeah, but maybe they caught 20 licks that day and had a decent little day. Yeah, but did it get, for the larger picture, did it get to more people if it was just free if i just passed out my cd just pass it yo i like hip-hop i'll take your cd i will listen to it if you just keep passing that out passing that out passing that out you'll
Starting point is 01:00:36 probably end up getting more listeners than charging someone 10 bucks off good faith maybe very difficult maybe yes and maybe no i also argue, and there's probably some statistics to prove this, that when you get people to actually purchase your product, whether it's a whatever, album, ticket sale, whatever, I feel like those fans tend to be a little bit more
Starting point is 01:00:57 invested. Sure. You may have a better chance to get real fans. And I think you do that by giving it out for free and then targeting the fans that you know are going to come back because they're buying merch. See, in this fight, not fight, this conversation they're having right now is where the content creators are going to be split.
Starting point is 01:01:16 Because in Parks' scenario, yeah, hey, a lot less audience, but I'm paid a lot more. So I don't care about y'all. I care about the people that are here. There are 100 people paying a premium, and that's where I'm making my living. I care about those 100 people. Rory, I think, is still on brand building. Sure.
Starting point is 01:01:38 And ironically- I have to give this out for free. And that's the boat probably a lot of podcasters find themselves in. Sure. And ironically, Parks and I are talking about, Parks and I are trying to get to the same consumer. We're talking about the strategy.
Starting point is 01:01:50 We're looking for the same consumer. I want the consumer that's going to come back and purchase things and move with me. I think to find more of those people, you have to start in a free world. But that's why it's interesting
Starting point is 01:02:02 what Shooter's doing. When I was talking about it, he's selling his album from his own, in a free world. But that's why it's interesting what Shooter's doing. When I was talking about it, like, he's selling his album from his own, you know, like, you DM him,
Starting point is 01:02:11 cash app him, $40 for the album. But what he's doing now, recently, is like, people are actually paying more than what he's asking.
Starting point is 01:02:19 Some people cash app him $80. Some people cash app him $100. Same thing. Like, yo, I just love what you're doing. with me and Giftshit. Right. People were dropping $50 for the album that was $10. People were dropping $30. Some people cashed out them $100. Same thing. I was like, I would band camp with me and give shit. Right.
Starting point is 01:02:25 People were dropping $50 for the album that was $10. People were dropping $30. People were dropping $15, $12. Right. You know what I mean? Which is great. It's awesome. And thank you guys,
Starting point is 01:02:32 whoever purchased and supported. And again, I think that the answer is somewhere in between. I bought it. Thanks, Rosh. Yeah, no problem. I think the answer is somewhere in between. You kind of got to do both.
Starting point is 01:02:42 Yeah. You got to have some shit out there where a casual onlooker may just click it and listen and they paid their 1099. So you're going to get your point. Oh, six cents. So when,
Starting point is 01:02:52 so when, so when subscription land happens everywhere, which we're assuming will be the case, I think it's going to take some time, but I think we do two podcasts a week. Your strategy is what? Let's flush this to take some time. And we do two podcasts a week. Your strategy is what? Let's flush this out in real time. You give one out for free every week and you charge a dollar for the other one in hopes to gain maybe 7% of your actual audience and get them to pay?
Starting point is 01:03:22 Are you saying us or just a new podcast? I'm asking y saying how would y'all do it i'm asking i like i like the way we do it i like the way we do it as far as like dropping a minute two minute clips online about certain topics true and then like you know that's it so yeah that's we throw that out i'm not asking about clips i'm asking you what you do with the two pods a week no i mean well are you talking about us or a hypothetical? Us in a hypothetical. I don't think we can not charge and give out a full podcast for free. See?
Starting point is 01:03:54 These are the decisions that concert creators are going to have to sit and live with for a little bit. I think free has to exist no matter how big you are, period. We can use us as an example. at least low paid like dsp you know you're getting your yeah like it has something right even if it's a dollar what i would like so i was going to talk about patreon or the idea of it like yeah to piss all right to piss people off just right there no matter what
Starting point is 01:04:20 we still need to focus on our larger fan base that is going to continue to come back every week for free we need to focus on them that actually needs to be the focus regardless just so we can try to start to win the casual consumer over to then go pay for the patreon stuff i'm talking from us just our actual pockets yeah we knew that we'd have that small part of our fan base that would go right to Patreon and pay the $5, $10, $25. If we just cut that off, we're only going to focus on them. We can start to win people over with our free episodes. You know what?
Starting point is 01:04:56 They've been kind of rocking this month. I think I'm going to go pay that $10. But I think that's where advertising wins. You put a lot of faith in the customer, boy. Well, when your product is good, that's what you're supposed to do. You still put a lot of faith in the customer, boy. Well, when your product is good. You still put a lot of faith in the customer. I think it's advertising. I think that's what your brand wants to be a part of this.
Starting point is 01:05:13 You want to put your logo on our show. You want to put some product on the table, on the walls. Okay, this is what it'll cost you. So now our fans still essentially get the show for free. But we're still making money elsewhere because... That exists. We're not talking about that. But that's what I'm saying. I think that's why it's hard for people to kind of get away from doing business with advertising.
Starting point is 01:05:36 Because a lot of people are still giving the product essentially for free. The fans may not be paying, but companies are paying for the file product. See, listen, man. It's a lot to unpack here. We don't have to do this here. No, this is a great conversation. I locked a whole different door, which is advertising. Most podcasters are not even privy to that stuff.
Starting point is 01:05:53 But here we are. Yes. At one point, we weren't privy to that. That's true. So you got to keep showing up. When you're consistent, people know they can always find you and always find good product. Eventually, people will want to pay for it. But I want to draw a hard line between advertisements and subscriptions.
Starting point is 01:06:12 They're not the same. Oh, no, absolutely not. Nobody else will tell you that. Absolutely not. They're not the same at all. If you're fortunate enough to get some ad money and funnel that the way that I am, awesome. You rock. You well on your way.
Starting point is 01:06:26 This subscription money is just new space for all of us because it's not something they allowed us. It's not tech they allowed us to get with until now. But that's that crossroad, that fork in the road that I keep talking about where companies will have to make a decision in being able to let creators participate in ways that they haven't before this is a step toward toward that what i would like to see from at least on the music side
Starting point is 01:06:52 um say say rory spends ten dollars a month at apple music or spotify or title whoever the fuck but he only listens to emotional oranges and they your streams you might listen to each album from each of them one time a month or one time a day rather you're probably earning them a dollar yeah where the fuck is the other eight dollars going i brought this point up and in twitter kill me when i said drake is probably the reason so many people subscribe to Apple Music or to Spotify. He shouldn't have the same split as the unknown artist. Twitter killed me for asking if anybody got equity in OnlyFans. They were like, all right, Joe, shut up.
Starting point is 01:07:40 Enough now. And I'm like, see, that's the problem. Some people are not ready to even have those type of conversations yeah so you can't even be mad at that like you just gotta understand people are not even thinking about that the reason why I love Apple Music or any of these DSPs really is because I can literally pull up any song I want for sure and to me 1099 whatever it is a month it's worth it yeah like I can pull up songs from the 80s the 70s and and 90s. 40s, wherever.
Starting point is 01:08:06 I don't have to run around with a big CD book and play the music in my crib. You can plug it in. So it's all about the convenience. Absolutely. It's all about being able to, like Shazam. We talk about it. You don't know a song, press a button. Go right to Apple.
Starting point is 01:08:22 It gives me the name of the song. Add to my library. It's all about the name of the song add to my library it's all about the convenience and just being able to just have everything right here i would just like to see those dsps uh like the the world is frowning upon socialism yet uh artists have to live by socialism through the dsps we all have to split up that uh, the 1099 for everybody. Right. As opposed to if I only listen to 38 Spesh, he should be getting my 999 minus whatever Apple splits up.
Starting point is 01:08:50 Right, yeah, yeah, yeah. I see what you're saying. But the thing with that, and we joked again at the beginning of the pod of what a stream is worth, why they don't do that is because once they start busting it down that way, we'll start to realize what everything is worth.
Starting point is 01:09:03 So they have to keep it at.00001 per stream just so no one can really find out exactly what they're worth to the app and what their fan base is bringing. I give you 1099 so I could go listen to 38 Special. I don't listen to nobody else. His shit is not worth.00001 to you when I play that song. That's why we won't really answer that question because they'd have to reveal what it is. his shit is not worth.00001 to you when I play that song. Correct. Right. That's why we won't really answer that question. Because they'd have to reveal what it is when they split it that way.
Starting point is 01:09:34 Yeah, they don't want to ever confirm that, folks. No. And just quickly, because we've been on this for a little while. It's a good cover, though. I do want to know what this does with young people. Wait, wait, not to cut you off. It's kind of like- Yo, cover Royal. No, no, no. I just thought about something. I don't want to hear that shit he said. I just thought about something. Not to cut you off. It's kind of like- Yo, cover Royal. No, no, no.
Starting point is 01:09:46 I just thought about something. I don't want to hear that shit he said. I just thought about something. You do it every episode. It's kind of like when you walk into Target. Love that store. Like, I might be going in there just for body wash. The Target.
Starting point is 01:09:57 Like, bottle water. Your mall is so bougie, by the way. Where he goes for his body wash? Target? Why not? That's a reasonable place to go. That's some bougie shit. Yeah, it's better as well.
Starting point is 01:10:06 But I'm just saying. Find you a C-Town. That's crazy getting your body washed. Yo, I don't know if you've been in the C-Towns now. They got the ill body wash. They redid them. They look like the Mac Cafe. All love.
Starting point is 01:10:19 I'm still going to Target. But that's like when you go to Target for body wash and shit like that. I'm just thinking about DSPs, right? Yeah. I might be going here for whatever artist I love. Mm-hmm. But then I'll bump into,
Starting point is 01:10:32 which we had this conversation before, like if a major artist drops on the day you're putting your project out, would you be upset? And I'm like, I don't know if as an artist I would be upset
Starting point is 01:10:40 because everyone is running to this app because this major artist dropped. Sure. And that means now people are here. Somebody might stumble upon my shit by accident. Like I go to Target, like I said, body wash.
Starting point is 01:10:53 I'm just walking. I might see some other shit. Like, oh, I didn't know I needed that until I saw it. Can I jump in on that point? Because every time we bring it up in this pod, it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. Yes, I agree that if a bigger artist drops,
Starting point is 01:11:06 it may help a lesser known artist in sales. But that lesser known artist is going to have a rough rest of the week. I don't care how your sales went. You could have beat every projection. But when you get on one of your socials and say, whatever you think the best song is, yo, y heard uh take a flight right now no we heard all beyonce shit it's uh because word of mouth talking about take a flight right now right now like it's just it could do something for an artist's morale is all i'm saying now you gotta hope your project got longevity help hope we can talk about
Starting point is 01:11:43 my shit next week well Well, let's also talk about the fact that the lesser known artists that end up on that, it's not a guarantee that you end up on that big page. You could be the dopest
Starting point is 01:11:51 artist with the following, but if you're not paying the label or someone to get your shit on that fucking front page. Well, that's my mall issue now when we trying to find
Starting point is 01:11:59 fucking new music on Fridays, I can't find it. Like y'all just told me I have to search the artists. They show me everything. They show me shit I could buy for 69 cent, jams from the 60s. They show me everything except for new artists, new music, what's out.
Starting point is 01:12:15 Unless they are supported by a major label or just came out of pocket. And I still believe in word of mouth via social media. Me too. That still makes artists. I get shit from Alex on Twitter sometimes. And that doesn't really happen when a Beyonce drops. There'll be no word of mouth that you shit that week. Word of mouth is a real thing, and it's a real form of promotion.
Starting point is 01:12:38 Unfortunately, in this microwave ever, word of mouth doesn't last as long as it used to. No, of course not. But word of mouth mixed with label marketing, all that other shit, word of mouth is still a very important part of that. You just need all the other elements. Before, you just needed word of mouth. You need a dance. You need a meme.
Starting point is 01:12:58 You need a challenge. You need a label backing. You need label backing. Why does it happen? What's my challenge? Look at the radio trying to come back you need radio what's my challenge playlist is the new radio you need a playlist why doesn't apple music give us the new music that drops on on fridays now why don't they give us
Starting point is 01:13:18 based on what we listen to our you would think why don't they do that because they're getting a check from the labels Is the answer though Playlisting for a majority sake Is all label Hey That has to change bro Yeah Playlisting is the new payola
Starting point is 01:13:32 90% of the artists They're the new DJs Look at my library You got it You can see what I download What I play Give me that shit All that shit that's on
Starting point is 01:13:38 New music now I'm like I don't know who I'm not listening to that Yeah same Can you hear the vagina drying up? It's definitely happening Supposed to binge ride be dry listening and uh before we get off this while while it's dry it's okay well wow we gotta talk to the nerds someday another thing lady while it's dry can i make a quick point before we try to get it it's dry ready we're not getting
Starting point is 01:14:02 we would say social media apps are usually driven and keep going because of the younger audience. If everything becomes subscription-based, that's going to be difficult for the young audience. Because if I'm a parent, you're only going to get two subscriptions that I'm paying for, buddy. I'm sorry. It's not true. No, it's different now with parents. Listen, all college kids are rich. All kids are rich, too.
Starting point is 01:14:24 My bad. No, no, no. Not that all kids are rich. All kids are rich, too. My bad. No, no, no. Not that all kids are rich. None of us said that, by the way. They've changed the conditioning with the kid. Like, back, here we go again. I'm scarred for life. PlayStation.
Starting point is 01:14:34 Yeah. They buy them in the game. They have other forms of payment where they don't have to bother their parents for the credit card. I laughed at Trey. They're like, Paul, let me get your credit card. I want to buy a game. How many years ago? No, that's never going to happen.
Starting point is 01:14:45 Now, they have just other, there's other shit out there, is what I'm saying. I put my niece on my Apple account when I was not doing well financially and she went crazy. It's a mistake. It's a mistake.
Starting point is 01:14:58 Absolutely. All right, I guess I'm just saying with, all right, if I, Twitter, I was 18 when Twitter came out. I was broke. I don't know if i could have afforded a five dollar monthly shit for twitter and then also for instagram and then also for netflix and then also for every last thing on my computer if we all go subscription based i can see that being difficult even if they try to do a little video game shit with other ways
Starting point is 01:15:24 to pay and this and that everybody think it's going to be difficult to keep something going it is everybody's not going to get everything and everybody don't deserve everything TikTok now is free but it's striving because of young people
Starting point is 01:15:34 this is a luxury business now absolutely this is a premium business I think it's always been that way in some way to some degree I mean cell phones and computers
Starting point is 01:15:43 and iPads are not cheap the users make those apps though. Instagram, we make the content. Twitter, we make the content. TikTok, these kids make the content.
Starting point is 01:15:52 Sure, and get nothing from it. So if you cut all the people that are creating the content that make the app move, is it going to work? Hmm. Does TikTok exist
Starting point is 01:16:01 if the kids can't do it? No. No. No. Not. No. Not at all. So yeah, the subscription shit, I'm trying to figure out how that's going to work for kids. That's why I just think there's a middle ground.
Starting point is 01:16:11 Because if I'm a parent, no. There should be both tiers. You're not subscribing to every last social media app. Pick two you like. Here's 10 bucks. Sure. And that's great for the two that they pick, the creators on that side of the 10 bucks.
Starting point is 01:16:20 Subscription is only going to work for 10% to 15% of people. Yeah. It's not meant to work for everybody yeah it doesn't need to yeah it doesn't need if i have a million followers and only six percent of the people come in and give me 10 bucks a month i'm doing pretty well doing great i'm losing i lose 10 000 uh followers on twitter every day i don't care instagram followers don't budge they're doing whatever they want to consumer-facing shit. Well, that's true. But that's how these companies became billion and billion and billion,
Starting point is 01:16:52 10 times over companies. And congratulations to them. And congratulations to each and every one of them. Sure. I get it. Well, Joe, you were recently quoted in People Magazine saying that you created creating. Was I? Yes.
Starting point is 01:17:09 I don't even remember telling that to them. I mean, it's true. I laugh at the fans. I recognize some of the little jokes he does. Scream it. I was joking. This didn't exist. Joe did not say I created creating.
Starting point is 01:17:21 It's not real, buddy. But you actually, this is your chance to say it. And saying that to People Magazine is hilarious. No, the people know who created creating. It's not real, buddy. But you actually, this is your chance to say it. And saying that to People Magazine is hilarious. No, the people know who created creating. Come on, man. Who y'all think? And equity. It's me.
Starting point is 01:17:32 And equity. Yo, I really asked that question. I said, yo, and anybody get equity? And OnlyFans, they said, oh, if I hear another peep about equity, I'm like, yo, that word just came out. Right. We just started. Yo, we got to put it away already. It was so important. All right word just came out. We just started.
Starting point is 01:17:46 Yo, we got to put it away already. It was so important. We still saying cap. Y'all got it, man. I won't say nothing else. You got to come up with a cooler word. I'm going to hope that Cardi B has equity in the OnlyFans or the white girl Bella Hawthorne. Corey is correct.
Starting point is 01:18:03 Corey don't know shit. Cardi got it. You don't think so? Corey don't know shit Corey got it you don't think so I don't think so and that's an issue for me I'm shutting up cause people tired of it anyway
Starting point is 01:18:12 Savon gave us the Miami Pink today hey see what you was trying trying to relive a little maybe a little memory South Beach South South Beach
Starting point is 01:18:21 South Beach South South Beach um what's up Savon if we go record a podcast in Atlanta South, South Beach. South Beach. South, South Beach. What's up? Say, Vaughn, if we go record a podcast in Atlanta, you're not coming. Just telling you that now because you get real excited on some of those excursions. Atlanta's a nice city. You're going to set up a phone and face the computers that get the time stamps on FaceTime.
Starting point is 01:18:46 Man, if we see Savon. Touch the city. If we see Savon in the background of a Ruggs picture, we all got to run over there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's help out. We got to help. We got to play what you're doing. You know Ruggs?
Starting point is 01:18:56 And depending on traffic, it might be too late. That's true. Traffic in Atlanta is crazy. Hey, go and get out of here. Which is funny I've seen a few of the younger teeny boppers I won't say any names but niggas that can't fight
Starting point is 01:19:15 I've seen niggas that can't fight having a blast with like some young girls that didn't know they couldn't fight at a rugs restaurant I was like I wonder if rs knows this guy is there. Like, this guy shouldn't be allowed in there. We should pray that no violence happens at Ruggs restaurant. No, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 01:19:35 Or fighting. I'm not praying for violence, but I mean, normally when I see niggas in Ruggs restaurant, they all niggas that's pretty official now to use their hands, except for this one night. This one night? I was like, yo, and that's fucked up. hands except for this one night. This one night. I was like, yo,
Starting point is 01:19:46 and that's fucked up when like, and that's why I'm not going to Atlanta. Like, you're out having a blast with some ladies, open carry state,
Starting point is 01:19:53 you ain't got your gun on you, now you just got to look stupid in front of some girls. Yeah. Just got to take that out. I just imagine that was the night this young man
Starting point is 01:19:59 was about to have. I pictured him trying to leave with these chicks and just having a difficult time. It happened. I have so much fun in my imagination. So these chicks and just having a difficult time. It happened. I have so much fun in my imagination.
Starting point is 01:20:08 So anyway, Savant, yeah, you're not going. If you didn't know how to act in Denver, I'm not really trusting it. Atlanta during All-Star weekend. It's for your own protection. I spoke to your mom. Yeah. I spoke to her myself.
Starting point is 01:20:19 He gave her his word. He said he'd protect her. And you know what she said to me? You know what she said. Take care of my boy. Yeah. Exactly. So how I'm going to tell her, yo, your son was a fucking idiot.
Starting point is 01:20:29 We were at the hotel. He snuck out. Your stupid ass fucking kid. Left with that protocol. Stabbed his ass up in the alleyway. They got him good. They got him good. Let me tell you, Ma, they got him good.
Starting point is 01:20:46 You might not recognize your boy. Hey, they got him good. Oh, my God. All right, what else is going on
Starting point is 01:20:53 in the world of hip hop that is super important and needs to be unpacked for the people? Savon would have lost his mind in Compound. Oh, we don't even talk about that.
Starting point is 01:21:03 We'd have had to sit down and have a talk with him live my fucking mind it almost died in that place live nation ceo says u.s music festivals could reopen by mid-summer live nation has taken a timeline provided by the british government as an all clear for the summer festival season selling some 170 000 tickets this week to three major uk summer festivals that were put on sale this week to three major UK summer festivals that were put on sale this week. And according to comments made around the company's
Starting point is 01:21:30 grim 2020 earnings report on Thursday, it is optimistic that North America can be on a similar pace. Gentlemen, react. Let's go! Thirsty. Yeah, fuck it. I'm tired of this house.
Starting point is 01:21:46 Just shout out to the Democratic Party. I don't know, man. I don't know if I believe that festivals will be back by summertime. I had dinner with our William and Morris agent of this podcast and he was like, man, I don't see this shit coming back. 2022, maybe. Wow. So, agent of this podcast and he was like man I don't see this shit coming back 2022 maybe Wow yeah so this seems this seems a little ambitious and like I said I don't it would be illegal but we're in a whole new world I think this will be a
Starting point is 01:22:16 way to entice people to get the vaccine for you to either travel go to concerts do anything at all you have to show some certificate that said you got both shots think it's all gonna to be intertwined. But why do you think this is maybe optimistic outside of what Josh said? Just- Schools are back open, right? Just the amount of-
Starting point is 01:22:35 Yeah. The amount of precautions they're doing- For all middle schools. Yeah. The amount of precautions they're just doing on simple things like indoor dining. I can't see this fast tracking to the summertime where we're now going to be at concerts together but the vaccine is being
Starting point is 01:22:50 distributed both my parents took it it does seem to be uh i forget which one i think it was the pfizer one they said uh reduces transmission based off the statistics they've had and they do i think uk released because they're vaccinating at a much faster rate than us and they have very promising results. And that's all I'm saying, Rory. The vaccine is being distributed. People are taking it. Schools are being reopened. They're increasing the percentage
Starting point is 01:23:16 of the occupancy in restaurants. And we're in February. Let's say March now. Even the older people and at-risk people with diseases are having some trouble getting the vaccine. They are. I never believed this government to care about old people. Well, they've said it kind of out loud.
Starting point is 01:23:35 That they care? No, that they didn't. Exactly. Coachella never canceled, right? They did, yeah. Emotional Oranges was on the bill. When did they cancel uh they didn't cancel for this year no i'm saying last last year but that but that's but they tried
Starting point is 01:23:51 to push it to october because they're talking about when i thought that was this summer they said uh yeah and they didn't cancel oh no it says now off the table. But they also, Joe, they also just kept pushing Coachella. At one point, they confirmed it for being October of 2020. They're just going to keep- They're playing it by year. I get it. I'm not mad at them for it. I'm planning on winning this year.
Starting point is 01:24:14 I'm playing that shit by year. Yeah. All right. April 2021 is off the table. Give me more. Give me more. Give me more. I'm not subscribed.
Starting point is 01:24:21 Sorry. Look at that. Loser. Look at how that comes right back the best screaming we're not even subscribed to this newsletter if they think i'm subscribing to fucking newsletters they got me yeah i read just that right there and i'm i'm done yeah sorry look how they faded they faded so they try to in october 2021 coachella is a possibility, but it's still not a sure thing. The decision depends on how the coronavirus pandemic progresses through the rest of the year
Starting point is 01:24:50 and whether or not Golden Voice, along with local and federal officials, feels that the event can be safely staged in April. I don't know, y'all. I think by April, I mean, we're starting to see people let back in the sporting events. by April, I mean, we're starting to see people let back in the sporting events. April might be optimistic,
Starting point is 01:25:08 but I don't know. I'm planning a wedding for August, and I'm fairly optimistic that we'll be able to actually have it. Yeah, I don't know if August is off the table.
Starting point is 01:25:15 How many people were you thinking? 200-ish, so it's not obviously a festival. There's still a lot of people. There's a lot of people. 200 is a lot of people.
Starting point is 01:25:21 They can do Coachella. God damn. I did not think he was about to say that. You got money, buddy. Have you started playing this wedding yet? Yeah. And y'all agreed on 200-ish?
Starting point is 01:25:31 How much a plate? Shit. Huh? Upstate. Much cheaper. Yeah. Still. I was just going to say, you can have a wedding.
Starting point is 01:25:43 If you go to Atlanta, you can have a wedding. If you go to Atlanta, you can have a wedding. If you go to Miami, you can have a wedding. You can have a wedding right now. People are getting married. Sure. But I'm not going to put my family in. That's why this whole shit to me is just crazy. In Wuhan, they was having a pool party last year.
Starting point is 01:25:55 Well, they locked everybody inside the fucking houses. But there wasn't no vaccine yet. I know, but they locked everybody inside the house, so it stopped the spread. They didn't do that here. We don't need to get into this area. Would you let Maul, Joe, and I record the podcast during your wedding?
Starting point is 01:26:07 Absolutely. I would encourage it, in fact. In the front row? I would encourage it. And the background would be y'all? I would encourage it. Oh, yeah, we can commentate it like a game.
Starting point is 01:26:13 Yeah. Look at this guy. He's really doing it. His life is over. Don't do it. Reconsider. Read some litter. Six years.
Starting point is 01:26:23 The one time he wants to bring up a pod idea. It's on his wedding day. He had that in his tuck. He was waiting. I wouldn't do that to Parks, man. You ever went to a wedding and cried? I cried.
Starting point is 01:26:36 I didn't even know the couple. I was like, oh, love is so beautiful. Yeah, you cried at the one on Love and Hip Hop. Yeah. Who was that that got married? You did cry. You're not talking about Love and Hip Hop. Which one? I'm going to fuck you up. No, that on Love & Hip Hop. Yo. Who's that that got married? You did cry. You're not talking about Love & Hip Hop. That's wild.
Starting point is 01:26:47 I'm going to fuck you up. No, that was Love & Hip Hop. This is going to make it even better. Oh, Kimbella. He's cried a couple times. Was it Eric and Safaree? Kimbella and them? It was Eric and Safaree.
Starting point is 01:26:55 You cried at Eric and Safaree's wedding. No, you're talking about Jewel and Kimbella. Was it? Eric and Safaree didn't get married on Love & Hip Hop. They didn't? No. Wait, Eric and Safaree didn't get married on Love love and hip-hop uh they didn't no wait eric and safari didn't get married in love hip-hop i don't know maybe it was a special but not on love and hip-hop no because
Starting point is 01:27:11 i saw them get married i'm like where else would i see maybe i wasn't there how about that i wasn't oh you wasn't at that okay i wasn't there but you were crying at a wedding kimbella and uh jules's wedding and you cried i was blowing my nose his wedding. And you cried? I was blowing my nose. So you blow your nose and water comes out. With tears in your eyes?
Starting point is 01:27:27 Actually, I did cry there. You did? They showed it too, right? Yeah. This fucking idiot. I wouldn't know you cried if I didn't ship it. I'm never doing another episode
Starting point is 01:27:33 of that. You know that? In case y'all are tuning in Monday at 8 p.m. to see if I'm there. I was like, this nigga's crying at Joel's wedding.
Starting point is 01:27:38 Joel's never gay this nigga first. I did cry. I keep crying. I let a little, I thought the camera, I thought the camera didn't, you thought they couldn't see you Joe? Joe thought he was hiding
Starting point is 01:27:50 From the camera in the front row Yeah Joe You had to rap on Beamer Benson Bentley beat Not by choice like It was a remake What you and Royce gave I think I remember that
Starting point is 01:28:01 Jersey Philly Detroit Whatever the fuck that thing was. Sounds like a bop. That's funny. But shit, nah. Well, no, it looked like
Starting point is 01:28:11 a beautiful ceremony. So I understand that you would cry at love. Parks, why didn't you cry at De La Soul Splits? I might have. Let me ask you that, buddy. I might have.
Starting point is 01:28:21 You thought that was cool? What Tommy Boy did? No, I didn't, actually. I think it's still fucked up. Exactly. Joel C have. You thought that was cool? What Tommy Boy did? No, I didn't, actually. I think it's still fucked up. Exactly. Joe will cry, boy. Tommy Boy. Joe will cry.
Starting point is 01:28:31 He's cried on like four different shows. More than that, probably. Definitely more than that, actually. Well, Love & Hip Hop is one. Multiple times on Love & Hip Hop. I've cried mad times on Love & Hip Hop. Consequence punched me in the face all time. No, you didn't cry then.
Starting point is 01:28:44 You didn't cry then. No, no, I love that. Tighten him up. I love that. Tighten him right up. And tone him up. And tone him. They did.
Starting point is 01:28:54 But the funny part about that, I said, yo, you're not going to leave this building without somebody talking to you. And he said, did I dare what you would, motherfucker? I'm out of here. I'm walking. Shit happens. Listen, love and hip hop, we pride on.
Starting point is 01:29:13 Shout out to Conn's. We love Conn's. We love Conn's. Friend of the show. Friend of the show. Love Conn's. And we hope he's doing well. How's he doing?
Starting point is 01:29:18 I'm not sure. Yeah, we haven't gotten an update. Was he in any of the Kanye pictures when they were in Wyoming? We need an update on Conn's health. Please. We need a Conn's sequence health update. I hope he's well. Yeah, they haven't gotten an update. Was he in any of the Kanye pictures when they were in Wyoming? We need an update on Con's health. Please. We need a consequence health update. I hope he's well.

Starting point is 01:29:38 I cried on the therapist with Duke. Yeah, yeah. I cried on some more shit. I cried on Everyday Struggle when De La Soul. Yeah. You all right? Yeah, I'm good. When De La Soul.
Starting point is 01:29:52 State of the Culture. Splits was wrong. Oh, State of the Culture. Oh, I cried on Everyday Struggle, too. Did you? Yes. About what? Erykah Badu.
Starting point is 01:30:02 So that's five shows that I've cried on. Happy birthday, Erykah Badu, too. She's 52 that I've cried on. Happy birthday, Erykah Badu, too. She's 52. I was crying when she was brilliant in that episode. But I've never denied being a crier. No, there's nothing wrong with it. I cried watching the movie Armageddon. I love crying.

I cried on the first season of A Million Little Things. You cried watching it. I cried on the first season of A Million Little Things. You cried watching My Girl. When she was like, he can't wear his glasses. I don't know what that is. You know what My Girl is.
Starting point is 01:30:31 When Macaulay Culkin, when he died in the Beast. Beast-o. You cried during that. I probably got choked up. And she was like, where's his glasses? Hey, how about enough of all the things Joe cried watching? How about you guys? I told y'all when I cried.
Starting point is 01:30:44 When they jumped Raphael and Ninja Turall when I cried. When they jumped Raphael and Ninja Turtles, I cried. I didn't like that shit, man. I wasn't feeling that shit. My girl made me watch some real sad movie on Valentine's Day.
Starting point is 01:30:59 I'm a crier. I like crying. I like to cry. Really? It's not like a crazy cry. You cry to the bottom of the bottle? You look like one of those guys. No, no, no. I'm not one of those. I'm a quiet crier. I like crying. I like to cry. Really? It's therapeutic. Not a crazy cry. You cry to the bottom of the bottle? You look like one of those guys.
Starting point is 01:31:07 No, no, no. I'm not one of those. I'm a quiet crier. It's more of an internal thing. Oh, you cry like Cuba Gooden in Boys in the Hood? You go in the room and start swinging? I start swinging, yeah. I want to use-
Starting point is 01:31:16 I cried when Lex was born. Yeah, we were all crying. Okay. That makes sense. Birth. That's totally it. We understand that. Yeah.

Starting point is 01:34:31 Way to the streets. I don't promote them, though. They're all concealed and licensed. No, of course. All right, never mind. Not alleged. Way to the streets find out that Joe Budden's depending on Safari to keep him safe in Atlanta. Look, fuck out of here.
Starting point is 01:34:49 All right, Safari, but you're doing well friend of the show we love you we care about you you're all right over there i'm great man i appreciate you good looking how's that beautiful baby she's right here say hi say something say hello yeah no that's the game that's game. Starting point is 01:35:13 Yo, the pandemic. Travel has been crazy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That shit been crazy lately. I would have been a Turk 17 times. Flew right over Atlanta. Nah, I'm coming that way, man, for sure. All right, what's up with you, man?
Starting point is 01:35:24 I hear you sneaking around airports. What's going on with you? You know the vibes. Fucking bitches getting money. That's all Joe do. That's all Joe do. You know what I mean? Showing everybody how these swords work.
Starting point is 01:35:33 Yeah. Yeah. That's what I'm talking about. That's it. Whenever you allowed to do some of them things, hit my jack. Hit my jack. When you allowed to play play, huh? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:44 He ain't want to talk about that. Wait, stop. I can't play with him. I'm friends with your wife. When you allowed to play play Huh Yeah I can't play when I'm friends with your wife Yeah I'm not playing with you Thank you for calling we love you we'll talk to you soon You called me Let's get that clear He trying to clear that up
Starting point is 01:36:00 You called me man Bye nigga Alright You called me You call me, man. It was a fun and great. Bye, nigga. All right. You call me. You call me, man. Yeah. You hear me? Yo, thanks for calling.
Starting point is 01:36:16 I don't never picture him winning the beef in the relationship. Like, I never see him winning an argument. Yeah, no. Yeah, Erica might be. She too. Yeah. Safari's more his his personality is more laid back like oh what what does he have but to run to the internet and say oh she wilded he ain't winning that one yeah no in the crib and every time he do it she just tweet scorpio stings. Like something. She just tweets something crazy. That's like, all right, Safar, you lost that one.
Starting point is 01:36:48 Scorpion about to go crazy out here. Erica, we love you, by the way. Prayers to everyone involved. Word gets a lot of prayers off. You got to pray for people. Only out loud. Only
Starting point is 01:37:03 out loud on air and on mic I have internal prayer I pray every time I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is pray before you go to the toilet
Starting point is 01:37:10 not before bed no I'm more of a morning prayer guy nigga scared to live life when you wake up when you wake up you don't want to live I wake up shook
Starting point is 01:37:20 yo god I'm gonna need your help today they wildin' out there no let's think about this. They wilding out there. Where does it go? You don't thank your higher power for waking up? It's different.
Starting point is 01:37:32 How you do it? That's the first thing you do when you wake up? Mm-hmm. No, I give it a little tug, make sure it still works. He is shook, shook. It's a different kind of prayer. Yeah. Give it a little tug, use the bathroom.
Starting point is 01:37:41 Oh, shit, God. I didn't even know I was getting another day but please keep me safe oh you're like thank you do you do it before or after you let off the morning farts well those are probably my sleep oh okay i'm already you don't fart during prayer i've farted in a prayer before what are you thankful for in the morning waking up yeah start there that's a start all right what's next depends on what your date's got i. All right, what's next? Depends on what your day's got. I meant like the list. What's the list of? I'd be giving it to God before bed. Like the list is, ew.
Starting point is 01:38:13 Thank you for the health of my family, friends, and loved ones. Health is the first. Family, friends, and loved ones. I'd be giving it to them. That's a go-to. Yeah, you got to do it. See, I'd be serving them all up. Oh, my kids, my related, give me the guidance, direction.
Starting point is 01:38:24 And I'd just serve them up. But in the morning? I'm not giving God that in the morning. God, good looking. Yo, we up. Yeah, we in. We awake. World ain't ready.
Starting point is 01:38:35 I don't like Joe's Miss America pageant prayers. Damn. I be being thankful for my health and my family's health because I know directly from my friends and their friends and their family, thank you for the health. I don't know what's going on with my friends' and and my family's health because I know directly from my friends and their friends and their family, thank you for the health. I don't know what's going on with my friends of friends' family's health. No, but you pray that they have good health.
Starting point is 01:38:52 You pray that they have good health. We were saying the thankfulness of rip. I don't know that. Let's pray they stay that way if otherwise. But no, I'm not going to say, I just, yo, please world peace God. I'm not going to say, I just, yo, please world peace, God. See, I don't pray for blacks.
Starting point is 01:39:10 They never do. The whites have never prayed for us. We made Jesus white. What you want from me? Yeah, word. Yeah, word. And he's not. And they didn't even make him white.
Starting point is 01:39:21 They made him like, they made him like some type of You tatted him on you. And you wear him. This is a monster killing himself, if you're asking. I know there's a Jesus somewhere. Oh, okay. Yeah. They tried to melanate the white Jesus, too.
Starting point is 01:39:33 Like, make him like Kim K. White. Yeah, they did. They just gave him a tan? Fuck yeah, they did. They gave him Miami Jesus. Turks Jesus. Turks Jesus. Yo, the whites just be creating. They just make shit up. Did they start the word? Did they start the creating? No. Turk's Jesus. Yo, the whites just be creating.
Starting point is 01:39:46 They just make shit up. They started creating? No. Yeah, no. Joe did that. Oh, they stole that. Yeah, they stole that from one of my ancestors. Yeah, no, Joe did that.
Starting point is 01:39:54 Hopefully, more will have to go through that. Right. Had to be one of my ancestors somewhere that came up with creating. Yeah. All right. What else is important? Nothing is important today. All right.
Starting point is 01:40:02 What else is important? Nothing is important today. I laughed at the fact that they filmed Coming to America 2 at Rick Ross' house. That was the funniest shit. Oh, shit. That's great. Shout out to Rick Ross. Wait, is it supposed to be Jamaica Estates?
Starting point is 01:40:18 No. Because there's no house in Jamaica Estates. I think it might be Zamunda. It might be Zamunda. It might be Zamunda. Okay. Yeah, I don't know the premise. I wasn't sure if they were still in Queens or not. It's Zamunda, right?
Starting point is 01:40:25 Yeah, I told y'all this while they was filming, or maybe after the Ross pull-up, that movies were filming there, Coming to America being one of them. I do want to watch and see what they made that look like. That's a flex. What they made his house look like, 300 acres or however much land he has.
Starting point is 01:40:40 That's awesome. I need a Ross intro today to give me the Zamunda house bar. That needs to exist. It would be funny if they had Ross in the movie as one of the janitors of the house. That's hard.
Starting point is 01:40:55 Him mopping or some shit. It's my house. Speaking of shit, we were watching and talking about the hip-hop undercover shit oh man you watched it joe did you get a chance i know we talked yesterday uh off mic about it ran home watched all three episodes it's only three right four it's four now oh well i watched all four episodes wait four now we mean uh well four is up there now however many were available
Starting point is 01:41:22 last night four is available available I watched them all And it was cool It was cool I really enjoyed it man I really enjoyed it Until I figured out That these docs are just podcasts And that's why I said
Starting point is 01:41:36 This does something to Some of the podcasts And the YouTube channels That I watch Where people interview These type of People from my culture I feel like it kind of of cuts their legs from under them a little bit. No, but I've seen all the main focal points of this show now doing podcasts to promote
Starting point is 01:41:57 the show. I've seen Deb doing pods. That was real good to hear some of her story. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Real good. It was good to hear from everybody. Let me yeah yeah sure um real good it was good to hear from everybody let me let me start there yeah everybody involved it was shot great i love when there's a dock and they make people sit in the big warehouse that's empty with some depth yeah and they show
Starting point is 01:42:16 them yeah yeah yeah i like that i'm on the hook i'm listening yeah i'm listening to what things sound better in warehouses i don't know why Haitian Jack was really entertaining yeah I like that I like that bully story that he told yeah that was great that was awesome but
Starting point is 01:42:31 that was the only story where I felt like dudes was really giving it up other than that I knew Big U wasn't about to sit on there giving nothing up for real
Starting point is 01:42:40 same with Trick Trick Trick Trick was up there telling them the most innocent of stories. That's the man with the cops. I wouldn't say that because he gets into the suicide mental health self-harming.
Starting point is 01:42:52 I'm just talking about the crime shit. I wouldn't expect any of these gentlemen to get on here and tell them themselves. In some real shit, yeah. But no, I thought that was a really interesting part to hear from Trick Trick on that type of shit not only to talk about suicide then explain depression and everyone else
Starting point is 01:43:10 try to question him on it and it's like fans now this shit work trick trick is hella entertaining man yeah he is queen's flip is entertaining i was happy to see royce in here um it was just good is it good to hear that side of you know because we've talked about how the streets control the music business quite a bit on this podcast so it's it's good that it's getting a um proper documentary style from the people who actually are from that cloth and they you know if you watch the credits they're all executive producers on it which is great because that sounds to me like they're making some money off it
Starting point is 01:43:47 yeah I never knew why Bimmy got fired from Def Jam so that was good to know too I forgot I missed that story Dub C he was working with Dub C and something happened and then Kev called and was like
Starting point is 01:44:03 work from home now. Pre-pandemic. But wait, he got fired from Def Jam. He was A&R over there. That's back to that era where Def Jam just housed all these amazing,
Starting point is 01:44:15 amazing people. Right? And he got fired from Def Jam but then started working with LL. That's how the fuck LL ended up on that Focus remix, fucking with Bimmy, Webb, and Nitty.
Starting point is 01:44:26 But anyway. You got a Farmer's remix. There's an LL Cool J Focus remix? I didn't know that, by the way. I didn't know that. It's out? Yes. Really?
Starting point is 01:44:37 I don't ever remember that. YouTube it. Oh, shit. I never heard that. Yeah. Was it good? Judging by your tone. I the all right let me let me provide contact i'm surprised you don't hang your hat on def jam def jam missed the record focus they missed it completely yeah and when they would when they were trying to get the steam back on it
Starting point is 01:44:59 when the public was over it uh then they tried to throw Hail Mary. The Hail Mary was LL, but I could only get LL if I also used his new artist, which was a young lady. So the Focus remix is Joe Budden, LL Cool J, and a young lady who was his act at the time, and Def Jam serviced it,
Starting point is 01:45:22 but the fans was like, fam, what is this like this we have this record we did this record y'all missed it it's too late Queen Duchess I've heard Queen Duchess Queen Duchess
Starting point is 01:45:37 I've never heard this remix but that is how the Focus remix came about it was those Queens Bimmy, Elle, Webb. Come on, Joe. This is the...
Starting point is 01:45:50 Favors. A lot of this goes. The Farmers remix. A lot of it goes. Favors. Yeah, basically. Oh, shit. I learned something new about you today, Joe.
Starting point is 01:45:56 That's cool. And, well, I won't tell any of Bimmy's actual story, but I think a lot of the murder ink and just ties with everyone combined when that happened with Preem and everybody. Like, they just didn't want
Starting point is 01:46:10 nobody in that building. Universal. When that case happened. Yeah, okay. So, that's part of it too. Hmm. No, I think I might have
Starting point is 01:46:19 fired Bimmy before that. Oh, okay. Shout out to all these gentlemen, man. That was some legendary shit that I watched. Yeah. Really, really, really enjoy this doc and shout out to Bimmy,
Starting point is 01:46:30 Deb. Yeah. It's just, it's really good. I like it. What do y'all think about, and then we can get off this, but I,
Starting point is 01:46:37 back to that bully story that Haitian Jack told just about when the bully, when he shot the bully and then the bully was like, all right, you well on, you on shot the bully and then the bully was like, all right, you well on you on your way now. And he didn't say he didn't understand what it meant. But when you shoot somebody in the power behind it, it's the first one. Now you on that side,
Starting point is 01:46:55 you, you on that side. Now, you know what it is and you in the game. What do y'all think about that? That's crazy. This, I don't want to,
Starting point is 01:47:01 that's a brutal honesty right there though. Yeah. That's how it happens. Like once you know you can do it a horrible cycle of survival is what I think it is
Starting point is 01:47:09 yeah to put it yeah a horrible cycle of survival I like the story when he told when they
Starting point is 01:47:18 they stole his pop's car yeah don't worry that car be back tomorrow that car ain't here in the morning I'm shooting
Starting point is 01:47:24 every car thief. Car was there. I'm going to start shooting car thieves. Yeah, well, you know, car's right there. I loved his father's reaction. I think Jack is the leader of the thieves. That was a great story. That was a great story.
Starting point is 01:47:41 Yeah. No, that shit was great. And when he saw the bully, he told him, listen, we good. But I bought these. Yeah. Just in case. They all got your name on it, buddy. Yeah, it was a wild story.
Starting point is 01:47:57 That's hilarious. And where was Jack? Jack was, that wasn't Haiti. He was in DR. He started in Haiti. He was deported to. He was there for six months. Then he went to DR. started in Haiti he was there for six months then he went to DR beautiful in DR
Starting point is 01:48:08 I think I even heard that Jack was there at some point but dope dope if you haven't seen it this is on Hulu or FX
Starting point is 01:48:15 Hulu, FX YouTube TV anything FX is on Hulu I love that yeah I love that listen man I probably use Hulu
Starting point is 01:48:23 more than anything else at this point in my viewing. Well, that and HBO. HBO is killing for me. But the fact that you can get Hulu and Disney Plus and whatever that is, you get for like $7.99. That's why I get my Showtime through. And it's kind of nice that it's all in one place.
Starting point is 01:48:40 Awesome. That's awesome shit. Did you guys have a chance to watch the Patrice O'Neill doc on Comedy Central? No, fuck. That's what I meant to watch. It's really, really good, man. Just because outside of Patrice being a legend, he came from a legendary era,
Starting point is 01:48:55 I feel like, of the comedy seller. Like his graduating class. So all of them are together to tell that story. That just makes the doc that much better i can't wait to watch that's comedy central right comedy central yeah you know patrice o'neill is one of the funniest human beings i've ever seen he's one of my favorite favorite comics ever that's super he's like some biggie shit super small uh available catalog really but but they
Starting point is 01:49:19 but they get into what you know i think most people were that were fans of him even knew when he was alive. Patrice never wanted to play the game. And he would tell you that straight up. And they get into that whole thing of how Patrice could have been, you know, on a Kevin Hart level to some degree. But any time that he would get a shot and he got a thousand of them, he would say, yo, I'm not doing this shit. Fuck y'all. Don't tell me how to do my fucking comedy.
Starting point is 01:49:43 You're hiring me because you think I'm funny. Stop trying to tell me how to do my fucking comedy you're hiring me because you think i'm funny stop trying to tell me how to be funny stop it so he he he shot himself in the foot constantly and admittedly and said i'm not gonna do this shit like i can't respect it continue to be this way you did it his way yeah and he lived it on his terms man rest in peace someone when they announced that that someone put a put a YouTube clip underneath the tweet of him breaking down how much white people love Radiohead's creep. It was like a radio show. That shit was fucking hilarious. There was a topic going around on Twitter over the weekend or last weekend.
Starting point is 01:50:21 Twitter over the weekend or last weekend and they were asking which deceased celebrities do you think would be causing the most ruckus on Twitter if they were alive today and I think that birthed the Richard Pryor hashtag that came about
Starting point is 01:50:37 where everybody was like Richard Pryor would go crazy but while everybody was saying that I was like why is nobody saying Patrice O'Neal Patrice O'Neal wouldn't be allowed on no twitter yeah no his account one no no let's not say that because the way i think kevin samuels now is gaining a lot of traction on social media patrice was doing that shit on opie and anthony 10 years before kevin samuels the same shit yeah yeah nothing is new under the sun yeah so
Starting point is 01:51:06 i i think now patrice in the era where he had to rely on networks when he was alive and how we don't have to rely on networks now i really think patrice and most comedians make it like in their 40s and 50s comedy is like a it takes takes a while for most, not the superstars. But I think Patrice would have finally got his real just due and was able to do what he wanted to do.
Starting point is 01:51:32 When you could partner with someone like Netflix who's like, yo, just do whatever the fuck you want to do. Let's be very clear, this would not be the perfect era
Starting point is 01:51:39 for Patrice O'Neal. No, no, no. I think it's cut specifically for him. They cancel people for everything exactly but you can't cancel someone that does not care they will shut his twitter account down okay he would not be on social media i couldn't see him even sitting there tweeting shit i think
Starting point is 01:51:55 the content he would create the same way you can't cancel dave chappelle yeah is the same way i think you can't cancel patrice his fan base does not care he does not care he will leave right away if he doesn't like the situation. He'll leave the money on the table. He don't give a fuck. You can't cancel that type of person. And we would have needed that type of shit
Starting point is 01:52:12 in the sensitive ass Tom. For the most part, most comedians that have gotten canceled and most have been unsuccessful, most of the time they're doing some real fucking nasty shit.
Starting point is 01:52:20 Oh yeah. Legitimately nasty shit. If you're just funny and saying inappropriate shit, that's still a go for the most part. For the most part. But Patrice O'Neal's content was.
Starting point is 01:52:29 Hilarious. Absolutely. But he definitely would be the one. Where people be like, yo, he says some outlandish shit and he's insensitive towards this type of people. They were saying it about him back then. That shit. So like now. That out in the room shit is fucking legendary.
Starting point is 01:52:46 That's one of my favorite stand-up specials ever. I'll put that show right now. I'm going to cut this podcast off. Speaking of Twitter, someone tweeted this today, a Patrice O'Neal quote. My girl has over 7,000 tweets. Thank God for Twitter
Starting point is 01:52:55 because that's over 7,000 things she would have had to said to me. And shout out to Patrice's fiance Vaughn I did the static show with Vaughn and Wise P I had no idea that that was Patrice's
Starting point is 01:53:11 fiance the entire time super funny girl super cool girl we stayed in touch via Instagram I'm watching the doc and she comes up and it says comedian
Starting point is 01:53:18 and I'm thinking just a comedian because there's been a bunch of comedians I see fiance you staying in touch with a lot of people through Instagram
Starting point is 01:53:24 that's social media by touch I mean like you know every now and then there's been a bunch of comedians. I see Fiance. You stand in touch with a lot of people through Instagram. That's social media. By touch, I mean like, you know, every now and then, whatever. But I had no idea. That was so weird to me.
Starting point is 01:53:33 A little tongue emoji. I've never sent Vaughn a tongue emoji in my entire life. With Jogo, a little tongue emoji. I say, hey,
Starting point is 01:53:39 let me know when your show is. How about seven? I've never sent seven a tongue emoji, no. Just asking. Think about it. You trying to be next to seven? I don never sent seven a tongue-a-mole. Do you know? Just asking. Think about it. You trying to be next to seven?
Starting point is 01:53:47 I don't know if I'm a wild. I'm trying to be eight. Go ahead, Joe. Give it to him. I'm trying to seven. He talked over it. He talked over it. He tried to be next to seven.
Starting point is 01:53:54 Like, what? He had a ball for you. He tried to save it. I'm saving it. I'll bring it back later. Don't worry about it. He tried to be next to seven. He got to talk over my shit.
Starting point is 01:54:02 You got a punchline coming, buddy. Anyway, you were saying. Oh, you could do something with the eight, too. This is mad shit to do here. Yeah, yeah, yeah. If this manifests, I'm coming back to the game. I got to come back to the game with my SoundCloud freestyle. Nothing is manifesting.
Starting point is 01:54:21 Oh, okay. Just checking. Yo, before we get to Snowfall, right? It's lit. Sunday nights at 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. on HBO. Yo, all y'all got to cut a check, man. Enough of this talking about you niggas for free. Allen versus Pharoah.
Starting point is 01:54:40 Woody Allen. The Woody Allen doc on HBO Sunday nights. I want to say it's a four-part series all not available only one available right now this was great i'm gonna binge that when it's i watched this and this was great i immediately stepped right back to my mom's called moms up yo man why was everybody creepy back then? Like, what was your generation doing? And again, I knew Woody Allen was creepy because I'm familiar with the case. But just how creepy? No, I didn't know.
Starting point is 01:55:13 Y'all just told me Karl Malone was creepy. Yeah. Yeah. Well, he's nasty. Yeah, facts. Karl Malone, Doc, will probably be coming soon. Nasty, nasty guy. Hey, if the Joe Paterno statue had to come down,
Starting point is 01:55:28 O'Connell didn't get a statue. All right. But this, Doc, Woody married this woman who had mad kids, spent the entire relationship letting her know I wanted shit to do with these kids, then somehow conned his way into picking the kids to adopt. The woman that he married was famous also.
Starting point is 01:55:49 Yeah, she was an actress. My mom's favorite actress. She was in a lot of his movies, I believe. Don't mind me, Parks. We're doing worst take over here, me and Mo. What do you got? The Lakers are expected to pursue DeMar DeRozan, and Mo was upset about it because Mo hates anything Lakers are expected to pursue DeMar DeRozan and Moe was upset about it
Starting point is 01:56:06 because Moe hates anything the Lakers do to improve. No, no, no. That's not it. What are they giving up? I don't know. See, that's the part of it that I hate.
Starting point is 01:56:14 You give up Kuzma in there? Kuzma for DeMar? Absolutely. That's all. No, not that's all. Oh, yeah. That's what I'm saying. It's going to cost more than that.
Starting point is 01:56:22 I'm saying you throw him in there. For sure. DeMar's boy, you throw him in there too? For sure. Morris boy, you throw him in there too? For sure. Oh, can you call your all-star buddy? Two draft picks? Let's see.
Starting point is 01:56:32 First and second round. First protected. They're low picks. Yeah, y'all want to chip. Low picks. First protected, second round pick. No, I need two second round picks for DeRozan. Sorry.
Starting point is 01:56:43 I can see them doing it. If y'all have DeRozan. Sorry. I can see them doing it. If y'all have DeRozan on the team that exists right now, do y'all beat Brooklyn? No. Corey laughed at me before the NBA season started when I said, what are you going to do when Harden ends up on the Nets? He laughed at me, but I don't pay Corey any mind
Starting point is 01:57:05 ever since he was trying to fuck our neighbor across the street and said he wasn't. More of that? Pull me right in. You remember that? He was there, right? That was me and Corey that lived together. Corey kept trying to act like he was going to get juice.
Starting point is 01:57:20 Yeah, yeah, yeah. We had told him, hey, no way he's drinking that much juice. That's a lot of juice. Third, yeah, yeah. Me and Joe, ain't no way he's drinking that much juice. That's a lot of That's the third jug this week. Why was the neighbor at our
Starting point is 01:57:32 house at 7 a.m. like, what the fuck is you doing? Get a grip. They just had to get some free Acai Pops. Joe was like,
Starting point is 01:57:40 look, no more juice. It ain't that much juice. How did she look? Beautiful. Yeah. Beautiful. Beautiful, beautiful. What's. And he ate that much juice. How did she look? Beautiful. Yeah. Beautiful.
Starting point is 01:57:47 Beautiful, beautiful. What's the problem? We're not mad. Just got to make jokes. No, I was mad at one point. You was mad? You was hating or you was mad? Both.
Starting point is 01:57:55 Okay. Not hating. I respect it. Not hating. I always want Corey to fucking prosper. But sometimes you think you get energy and you realize that she's just nice. Yeah. Friendly neighbor. She's outgoing. Yeah. Friendly neighbor.
Starting point is 01:58:06 She's outgoing. Friendly neighbor. Loves the neighborhood. When I thought I was getting energy is when I put two and two together and I was like, oh, wait a minute. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:58:15 It's just nice. It's nice to me. That's all. Still find her Instagram. Shout out to Nick. Um, all right. What are we doing?
Starting point is 01:58:22 What are we doing? What are we doing? What are we doing? Snowfall. Oh, I thought I was going to call Julius Randall. Let's get to snow. Let's get to snowfall All right, what are we doing? What are we doing? What are we doing? What are we doing? Snowfall. Oh, I thought I'm always going to call Julius Randall. Let's get to Snowfall first. Spoiler alert.
Starting point is 01:58:31 We're telling. We're snitching now. So if you haven't seen it, be sure to fast forward through this part. But one thing for sure, two things for certain. When that dude, Scully, gets a hold of Franklin. He told him what was going to happen. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:58:47 He said, if you trying to fuck me, I'm going to send every nigga I got at you. Gave him the big guns too. Word. Gave him the big, big boys.
Starting point is 01:58:56 He said, I'm going to stone his ass. And he still didn't care. Homeboy fucked that shit up. This is going to be a great season, it looks like. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:59:01 I'm happy for Scully, DeAndre Barnes. I'm happy for him scully is deandre bonds i'm happy for him he um he did some jail time and he was away for a few years and seems like he's you know back full acting swing and he's doing a great job i think he's gonna be the breakout star this this uh this season that's i hate to be on some takashi ship that's my man right there the cop oh yeah he's a good actor that's my man the cop the guy the. Oh, yeah. He's a good actor. That's my man. The cop. The guy. The white guy. Yeah, he's a good actor.
Starting point is 01:59:27 You seen what he did. We ain't got to say it. I don't want to spoil it. No, this season right here is like. Yo, stop talking. Please get your man. Yeah, yeah. That'll quiet things down.
Starting point is 01:59:40 I learned that. I didn't know. Was that South Central? Did that happen? That was South Central, I think. Yeah. Anyway. Bro, you saw South Central? Did that happen? That was South Central, I think. Yeah. Anyway. Bro, you saw South Central?
Starting point is 01:59:47 Of course I have. Okay. Just checking. Yeah, this season of Snowfall looks like it's going to be, it's off to one of those type of stars. Like, oh, shit, they setting the bar already. This might be as good as Power. Stop it.
Starting point is 02:00:00 Don't do it. This is a lot better than Power. Just a little trolly troll. I know. I get it. No, I don't know if you're trolling. You came right to me. Yo, I think Power is lot better than Power. Just a little trolly troll. I get it. No, I don't know if you're trolling. You came right to me. Yo, I think Power is better than The Wire. Just a little trolly troll.
Starting point is 02:00:11 But Power, I mean, when we first started watching Power, the first two seasons, first three seasons, I ain't going to lie. Yeah. I was hyped the first two seasons, Roy. I love the first three seasons. And you have not let it go that I was hyped in the first two seasons. No, I was hyped too. I was hyped. But I ain't like at that. I wasn't mad at that. I wasn't mad at that. I wasn't mad at that. I wasn't mad at that. I wasn't mad at that. I wasn't mad at that. I wasn't mad at that. I wasn't mad at that. I wasn't mad at that. I love the first three seasons. And you have not let it go that I was hyped in the first two seasons. No, I was hyped too. I was hyped.
Starting point is 02:00:28 But I ain't like just coming by like, yo, this shit better than The Wire. But my statement was if this continues at this rate, I could see a world where. Yeah. But it didn't.
Starting point is 02:00:39 It did not. Nowhere near. Nowhere. It was bad fast. Downhill fast. Just everyone forgive The Wire for season two and just take it for what it is. And the more time that passes, I have a greater appreciation for season two. I don't know why people ever really knocked season two like that.
Starting point is 02:00:54 I can tell you why. In retrospect with other seasons, I understand why it had to happen. It was too David Simon-esque. You should have stuck with what was working. But now you see how it's a set up for it. I know. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It came together, though.
Starting point is 02:01:09 It was a whole reason for it. After season one, though. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Coming off too high. Yeah, I get it. Definitely get it. They're going to kill Franklin. Well, no, they're not.
Starting point is 02:01:17 Because it's a real story. Loosely based. He's alive. Yeah, he's alive. She was D'Angelo's mother-in-law. I'm excited that we have something. loosely based he's alive yeah he's alive but yeah she was D'Angelo's mother in the wire I'm excited that we
Starting point is 02:01:27 have something oh maybe she'll be there as friends at the Apollo no no let's see what you no D'Angelo
Starting point is 02:01:35 D'Angelo in the wire how do we know D'Angelo from the wire not D'Angelo not D'Angelo from Virginia that's an amazing artist
Starting point is 02:01:43 no are y'all gonna be there as friends no Not D'Angelo from Virginia that's an amazing artist. No. Are y'all going to be there as friends? No. We were not invited. Are you guys going to be watching? And screaming, why is my Instagram up? I know niggas that was invited that's not going. I know friends.
Starting point is 02:01:59 Like, yo, come perform. Niggas that really fucking? Nah, nah. I'm busy. I'm going to chill home that night. Yeah, nah. I'm going to watch them. I'm going to chill home that night. Yeah, nah. I'm going to watch them. I'm going to watch two parts.
Starting point is 02:02:08 Yeah. These guys can make their jokes. It's misleading messaging. Yeah. Yeah, you're going to watch. I'm going to watch two. How long? How long?
Starting point is 02:02:18 I'm not going to say it. Let's sit here glued and do nothing else. I know you're not going to say that. You want to see who the friends are? You're not watching the whole thing. How do you know that? What if it's fire? If it's fire, of course.
Starting point is 02:02:27 But right this second, you're not going into this saying, I'm watching the whole thing. No, you're not. Yes, I am. I don't believe that. D'Angelo with friends? I'm watching that. Yeah. Well, who are his friends?
Starting point is 02:02:38 He don't know. I'll have to find out. He don't know. You wouldn't go to a pool party if I'd be like, yo, you know. Just some friends. I heard it's a pool party. Who's going to be there? They're friends. Me and friends. Yeah, but. You. Just some friends. Heard it's a pool party. Who's going to be there? They're friends.
Starting point is 02:02:45 Me and friends. Yeah, but. You would need some names. Nuh-uh. It's a little different. Why? I'm going to compliment my guy today. Okay.
Starting point is 02:02:53 Fine. Joe is the D'Angelo of pool parties. If Joe says, come to the pool party, I'm going to the pool party. I don't need much information. I know his resume when it comes to pool parties. Okay. And friends. If someone that I don't know
Starting point is 02:03:05 said come to the pool party, I'm going to ask, well, who's going? Okay. D'Angelo has friends that I think I want to see. Absolutely. I'm going to definitely watch.
Starting point is 02:03:15 I'm not going to say I'm going to sit there glued for the entire three hours or whatever. I might do some other shit while I'm watching it. Start painting. Background music, you know?
Starting point is 02:03:22 Yeah. But I'm going to tune in. Why wouldn't i no i'm gonna check it out just because we haven't seen d'angelo in in five or so yeah that alone is enough i'll be tuned in yeah that's not enough for me to see d'angelo perform no that i haven't seen him in a long time that part is not enough for me yo i'm gonna check him out because it's been a while since I checked them out. No.
Starting point is 02:03:48 Like, D'Angelo is still D'Angelo to me. So if I'm checking it out, that's why I'm checking it out because D'Angelo is D'Angelo, and that's what I expect to see. That's like when there weren't very many D'Angelo sightings, and then we got word in New York City that he was performing at, like, Bowmore. Nobody knew, like, on the low type shit. It was like, wow. Nah, we headed to bull more than to watch that we want to see that today though friends he's got some pretty cool friends he's got some crazy
Starting point is 02:04:14 the cap says by the way he's got a lot of friends just the soul querians would get me there to watch yeah but that's not a versus and peace deal i'm sorry that so can somebody explain to me see i see what joe is saying yeah like what is it is well i don't know but it's we a versus rest in peace Dylan I'm sorry so can somebody explain to me how this is a versus yeah like what is it well I don't know but it's we'll see is he gonna have
Starting point is 02:04:30 a jam session if so that's what it kind of appears to be no yeah I get it but it's like we don't
Starting point is 02:04:36 and what versus is and what we've come to know it as it's kind of like what is this is he gonna be battling maybe versus is evolving before our very eyes. And if I'm a friend, I got to know what song I'm versusing against.
Starting point is 02:04:50 Yeah. Yeah, you don't want no surprises? Yeah. Yeah, I'll be curious if the friends are. If I'm Q-Tip, I need to know what I'm going against with Nothing Even Matters. Let me know my versus. I'm not walking into a left hook. Somebody going to tell me what's going on here.
Starting point is 02:05:08 I just want one answer. Your call has been forwarded. Your call has been forwarded, buddy. We know what you want. I'm calling back, man. Don't forward my shit. Yo. Larry Jackson, this is Joe Budden calling live from the Joe Budden Podcast.
Starting point is 02:05:28 How are you doing? Wow. Am I on air? How does this work? You're on air. Don't say anything incriminating. I'm talking about D'Angelo versus- Can I curse?
Starting point is 02:05:39 Yeah, you can curse. Yeah, no, you can curse. Please, please, please. Friend of the show, please curse. So I can say fuck and whoa whoa larry no none of the audience knows that you curse we don't know anybody from apple curses larry listen to me real quick because we're doing a piece and we're talking about yeah yeah yeah yeah angelo versus featuring friends and life in the historic Apollo Theater
Starting point is 02:06:05 Larry, Larry, Larry, Larry what is this? what is this? Larry, this is coming out tomorrow by the way so yeah, this will be this is coming out tomorrow oh, this is coming out tomorrow?
Starting point is 02:06:18 yes a few hours before the actual D'Angelo thing wow, okay what is this as in terms of... What part are you looking at? How is he going to versus his friends? How is this a versus, Larry? I mean, you know, the guy
Starting point is 02:06:34 is... He's a unicorn, I got to say. By the way, the fact that... How about this? Let's dwell on this for a second. The fact that... And I have so much love from the fact that i got d'angelo to come out of wherever he was at for this is even you know he he could he could do it by himself you know what i'm saying he's such a uh a unicorn and such
Starting point is 02:06:57 a snow leopard and such a legend you know that uh you know he's not he's not he's not a normal kind of cat. I see what's going on. We gave you a spontaneous call that you weren't prepared for, and now you're just doing a publicist press release. I just don't want to ruin the surprise about who's going to be there. I don't want to ruin the surprise. Well, just tell us the format, not who's going to be there. Yeah, we don't care about that.
Starting point is 02:07:20 Is he versus-ing anyone? Yeah, I just want to know how it's going to work. Like, should I call Mario or somebody to stand in? Does somebody? Music, soul chat, what do you want me to do? This friend shit ain't really making me cut on my Apple TV yet, whatever time you're saying. Give the people something, Larry.
Starting point is 02:07:40 Oh, wow. We're going to play with the format the format and it's gonna be something that you wouldn't even expect in terms of how he would be going up against somebody i'll tell you that all right i'll tell you that i and and and i and i think i think i think i think you'll be pleasantly surprised is this just are they just gonna do a bunch of duets and that's gonna be the verses hey i do the song with you so we're going to sing together and we're versusing on the same song that we're on. Larry's my guy. Clearly he's being evasive
Starting point is 02:08:10 on some facts. I'm assuming it's for a reason. I'm assuming he's media trained. So I'm going to leave this alone. I'm going to take the vibe. I'm going to take the hint. Don't press him, Rory. No, I'm going to ask. Let's just check. Did Maxwell want the smoke or not?
Starting point is 02:08:25 Why can't I come back on Joe Button's podcast for a different kind of interview? You know what I mean? You should come kick it with us, though. The very first time you guys called me, speak about something that's with this kind of pressure, man. This is hard, man. Larry, you can come on this podcast anytime
Starting point is 02:08:41 you like one. I'm done pressuring you about this we will we will tune in to see him versus himself now he won't he won't be he won't be versus himself i can tell you that so there's going to be a mystery person there that you guys couldn't say for some reason yeah yeah most definitely it's going to be it's going to be interesting kind of play on the format that's all i say. But it'll be well worth the watch for sure. Without question.
Starting point is 02:09:07 Well, if it ain't, we're going to call you the very next pod to talk about why it wasn't. You know what? And I would be happy to take that call and explain myself.
Starting point is 02:09:17 Awesome. We love D'Angelo, so we're looking forward to it. We love D'Angelo. We love you. Good luck with the event tomorrow. We'll be tuned in, Larry. Starting point is 02:09:53 A Harry Potter type The fact that we even got him Is like the battle itself Though I do I do believe him in that sense Yeah no doubt Getting D'Angelo Is extremely difficult
Starting point is 02:10:04 Forever so it's like And shout outs to Larry man I like Larry a lot Of course Of course I do believe him in that sense. Yeah, no doubt. Getting D'Angelo is extremely difficult. And shout outs to Larry, man. I like Larry a lot. Of course. Of course. Starting point is 02:10:19 No doubt. He's promising me an opponent. No. Did I read that wrong? No. He's promising me an opponent. So I'll watch because I wrong? No. He's promising me an opponent so I'll watch because I don't give a fuck
Starting point is 02:10:27 about D'Angelo's friends. Can I be truthful? How I interpreted that and I'll do my before shit. Larry, love you on shit. I interpreted that as Larry going,
Starting point is 02:10:37 fam, we don't even know what the fuck D'Angelo about to do. That might be part of it. That might be part of it. I don't have a fucking clue. Well, you don't know what you're going to do. We got D'Angelo.
Starting point is 02:10:45 It's going to be great. We're going to produce it well. Whatever D'Angelo wants to do in that fucking stage is what he's going to do. We got lights and cameras and things. We'll do what we're good at. Yeah. If D'Angelo wants to do what he wants. But D'Angelo's still from that cloth of the secrecy world of music.
Starting point is 02:10:59 We're not telling you shit until we show up on stage and you'll see what it is. He better find somebody to battle. I know that. Hey, you better call up Angie Stone. You better call somebody, god damn it. You said it's going to be interesting. Angie might be there. If she ain't You better Horace Brown

Starting point is 02:13:01 room couch took that bullet out his arm, got everybody gathered and armed appropriately, told them, yo, go find Franklin, man. Yeah. And that's it. And then it went off. And I was like, oh, fuck, now I got to stay awake till Wednesday again. Stay awake till Wednesday. Yeah, I was hype. I was hype.
Starting point is 02:13:17 I was hype. I watched this late because it didn't hit Hulu till 3 a.m. That was past my bedtime. I watched it live on television, which I don't do anymore, and I stayed up to watch it. I did that with your honor. I was that loser. That shit didn't hit the Hulu streets until 3 a.m., so I was up until 5 watching this shit. I'm terrified of anyone that can take a bullet out of themselves.
Starting point is 02:13:36 Just a little whiskey to cover it. What was that, Trade the Truth that did that? Mm-hmm. I was terrified. No, you was probably scared of him before he did that. Absolutely. But that did look a little, that wasn't a little tiny bullet either. So you don't feel them vibes?
Starting point is 02:13:48 Yeah, when you casually take a bullet out of you. Trey, true fat ass arm. Trey, Joe said that. I think your arms are great. Trey Miller's arm was fat when he was taking that bullet out. Yeah, let me sit up. What did you say, Rory? We love Trey the Truth.
Starting point is 02:14:06 And actually, shout out Trey the Truth all that he's been doing in Houston and in Texas with all the electricity. Nah, he's been doing some great things. Yo, Rory is great.
Starting point is 02:14:15 Yo, he gave him any hip hop form of appreciation. Yo, shout out, love, big up. He's a unicorn. Big big up he's a unicorn big up

Starting point is 02:14:52 with all the power going out people not having food like jokes aside Trey the Truth every time there's something going wrong in Texas he makes sure to be the one
Starting point is 02:15:00 to fix it before the government does did he drop a project with my son too that I don't know I don't know pull I don't know. Pull it up. Pull it up.
Starting point is 02:15:07 Huh? Thought niggas wasn't getting the activist mixtape? Trey the Truth has great albums. Yeah, he does. Yo, how many more compliments can you give?
Starting point is 02:15:18 Yeah, you think you got a compliment? Pick it up. They did do it. Yo, and he's dressed. He dresses great, right? They did do it. And he dresses great, right? They did do it. No, he knows it.
Starting point is 02:15:27 Yeah. He dresses great. Yeah. He smells wonderful. Let me find a Trader Truth song for sleepers. Trader Truth, my song, I Gotta Win. Yeah. See, I knew that.
Starting point is 02:15:41 Look at me knowing hip hop. You're so in the loop. The loop. You're a snow leopard. Look at me knowing hip hop. You're so in the loop. The loop. You're a snow leopard. All right. What else we got? Franklin's going to die. We all for that.
Starting point is 02:15:53 We've reviewed every other show that we watch. I don't have anything else that's super important. I don't. No need for me to sit here and pretend. Let me just make sure. Hip hop uncovered. Kobe has the logo, I thought was an interesting conversation. How do y'all feel about that?
Starting point is 02:16:09 I love it. Give it to me. Where do I sign? Please. Do it. I didn't like the design that they came up with, but I think Kobe should be it. Sure. Same.
Starting point is 02:16:17 Same. The Atlanta, the WNBA Atlanta team is no longer owned by that former racist senator. That's good. Yes. That's a great answer. Get all the racist side of sports teams, ownerships, and life in general, please. Kelly Loeffler is no longer a WNBA team owner. The woman, WNBA announced Friday that it and the NBA Board of Governors have unanimously approved the sale of the Atlanta Dream to Larry Gottesdiner, chairman of real estate firm Northland.
Starting point is 02:16:50 He's also a former player that's on that group as well. Other team investors include former Dream star Renee Montgomery and Northland president and COO Susan Abare. Shout out to Renee, friend of the show, man. Congratulations. Congratulations to them. Renee's the one that dissed me, right? She dissed you before? Maybe not Renee.
Starting point is 02:17:14 One of them dissed me before. Oh, told you to pull up and play? Yeah. I don't think that was Renee. Whoever it was said that my five wouldn't pull up and wash them. No. You wouldn't pull up and wash them. No. You wouldn't roll with me?
Starting point is 02:17:28 No. Corey, would you roll with me? No. Those are real athletes, bro. So why we can't call dudes that we know that are real athletes and go play the girls? Oh, like NBA players? No. That ain't, no.
Starting point is 02:17:41 Why? I thought you meant like us. Like Parks, me, Rory. We're getting washed. No, no, no, no, no, no. Yeah, I wasn't aware of getting eyes. No, no, no, no, no. Why? I thought you meant like us. Like Parks, me, Rory. We're getting lost. No, no, no, no, no, no. Yeah, I wasn't aware of getting high. No, no, no, no, no. That's not good.
Starting point is 02:17:49 Rory does have a, he cuts a lot. He moves well in space. He cuts a lot? Hey, tell us somebody that cut a lot. The way he cuts is not good. He moves without the ball. I move without the ball. That's a very important thing.
Starting point is 02:18:01 He's an intelligent player. Yeah, he said good. Yeah, that's true. And if I'm not hungover, I'm that annoying defender. Where it's like, fam, we're just, we're chilling. We're playing basketball. Like, leave me alone for a second. I get it.
Starting point is 02:18:12 Also, while we're on TV, WandaVision was a big to-do. I don't watch that shit, so I have no feedback for you. I do want to watch it, though. I'm not into it. I'm into Vision. I don't know what's going on with Wanda and what they're doing. But I do like Vision. And I haven't gotten around to this, so I have no feedback for you.
Starting point is 02:18:31 Shout out to everybody who is enjoying it, though. And that's it for me. I'm cool. I'm out of here. What y'all got? Y'all got a weekend plan? Something fun? Julius, man, I'm real happy about the Knicks.
Starting point is 02:18:42 It finally has hit me that the Knicks are not tanking. No, they're playing, playing. Yeah, they're playing. I think they're going to make the playoffs. I think so, too. Looks that way. I'm late on that. I'm late on that.
Starting point is 02:18:53 But I'm really happy for them. I am. And I think that's the right way to do it. If you're good enough to actually make the playoffs, you should make the playoffs. Yeah. And you do know that means that'll show players that maybe we should go to the team. Well, yeah, yeah, playoffs. Yeah. And you do know that that'll show players that maybe we should go to the team.
Starting point is 02:19:07 Well, yeah, yeah, yeah. It doesn't always have to be draft picks. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, all right, there's some hope over there. Write out the Nets playbook. This is a show
Starting point is 02:19:15 that you got some talent, a show that you can win some games, and hopefully you can attract some free agents, which we've been unable to do. So we're really happy for them. Yeah, I think they're going
Starting point is 02:19:23 to finish top five in the East. I think I said that last week. You did, and I disagreed with them. Yeah, I think they're going to finish top five in the East. I think I said that last week. You did. And I disagreed with you. I think they're going to finish top five. Again, man, that D-Rose pickup was, they flew under, people didn't really talk about it, but that was major.
Starting point is 02:19:37 I just don't think the Knicks had any idea that they would be this good. Yeah. Yeah. Like, who knew that quickly would turn out like that who knew that julius was about to come in and have uh one of the best years of his career yes you knew that because you were holding hands with him through the walkway and hands you were the only person that knew that but wow wow it really came together uh tibideau turned out the the coaching staff turned out really happy
Starting point is 02:20:02 for them man really really really really happy for them and it's good to just have the Knicks back in that conversation, playoff talk. The Knicks need to be here. And listen, now, if they're going to let us get a fifth seed, we might win a round. I told somebody that, too. If they're going to let us get a fifth seed, we might can win a round. That's all I'm saying. I can see if the Pacers finish sixth and the Knicks and the Pacers match up
Starting point is 02:20:22 first round, I can see the Knicks winning. Yeah, come on. Give me Bernard Sabonis. Come on through. Shout out to Sabonis. He just replaced Kevin Durant in the All-Star game.
