So the announcement came recently that McElmore has been officially kicked off the tour that he was on with Ed Sharon. This is not a super surprise given what's happened in the last few days. First, he is criticized by some people for standing on stage screaming Free Palestine, showing images of what's happening in Gaza and the West Bank. And there was some pushback from Israelis, from Zionists, et cetera, from pro-Israel voices, etc. Pink was the next stage when she started when she started reposting. calls for the tour for fans to be refunded and for him to be kicked off the tour.

Are you saying this is all Pink's fault? It is not. Pink had that kind of power. And Pink kind of shrunk for a minute and then she made a statement standing up for herself and being vocal about why she didn't rock with McElmore.

But it felt like a bigger thing happening. And that bigger thing came out the next day, or next couple days when McElmore is officially kicked off the tour. Maclemore says he was kicked off the tour because Robert Kraft. Now we got to read what McElmore said.

No, he went crazy. We do have to read. But it was not just Robert Kraft. He was, there was a group of stadiums that we're going to disallow him. But he said Robert Kraft was the ringle. Maclemore says, and there's a few slides. I'm not sure how to start this, so I'm going to speak from the heart and share the truth. Ed Sharon and his team have made the decision to remove me from the loop tour.

But before I get into it, I want to say something that should be obvious. In this moment, I think it matters. I am not a victim. Ed Sharon is. not a victim. Pink is not a victim. We have careers, money, opportunities, safety, and audiences around the world. Whatever consequences any of us face for what we say, we get to go home to our families. The victims are the Palestinian people. The men, women, and children who have been killed, starved, displaced, and forced to live through unimaginable violence. More than 20,000 children

have been killed in Gaza alone. People are being killed today and people will be killed tomorrow. I want to make sure that as I tell this story, we don't lose sight of that. Ed is my friend. I've known him for 13 years. We've shared late nights, studio sessions, and stages. He has this infectious magic about him that I've grown to love. I consider him a brother. And because of that, we've had some difficult conversations this past week.

The type of talks rooted in love and respect for one another that still end in a place of fundamental disagreement. Nothing I'm writing here is out of spite or because I want to tear down his character, but as I told Ed multiple times on the phone, our friendship can't change my responsibility to tell the truth about what happened. Last Monday, in the middle of all the media attention surrounding Pink and what I said it met life, Ed told me that Robert Kraft called him.

We were scheduled to play Gillette Stadium later this month, which is owned by the Kraft Group. Ed told me that Kraft said I would not be allowed to perform in his stadium. Ed also told me that Kraft had rallied some of his other stadium owners and collectively they gave him an ultimatum. If Macklemore stays on the tour, you will not be allowed to play in our venues.

Ed was in a fucked up position. He knew it. His typical apolitical stance was being challenged in a way it never had been before. He told me that the words free Palestine and the image of the Palestinian flag were hurtful to a lot of people he spoke with. I told him that if those words were more offensive

than tens of thousands of Palestinian children being killed by Israel, then there was a fundamental disconnect between where those people stood and where I stood. But he couldn't get past his public facing I don't take sides. And I get why people don't.

Taking the side can cost you money, brand deals, sponsorships, festivals, private shows, relationships, and access. I've lost all of those things, but there's no neutral position between the oppressor and the oppressed. When one side has the bombs and bottomless financial

and military support from America, refusing to take a side doesn't leave you in the middle. What I said it meant life, I've been saying on stages around the world for almost three years. So why is it an issue now? Because I'm sharing a stage

with one of the biggest artists in the world and some of the biggest stadiums in America. At a certain level of exposure, free Palestine becomes too much of a risk. If I kept doing the shows, saying free Palestine with Ed implicitly supporting it, the crowd getting loud and showing undeniable support for Palestinian liberation,

what artists might speak out next. The stage becomes resistance. Maybe that's why this time it became so important to silence me. And one of the most effective ways to enforce that silence has been to weaponize the accusation of anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism is real, and that is exactly why the word matters too much to be used as a shield against criticism of the Israeli state.

When criticizing Israel, opposing Zionism, or saying free Palestine, gets conflated, with hatred of Jewish people, it doesn't protect Jewish people. It protects Israel from accountability. I hope this isn't the end of my relationship with it. Naga, you're done. 13 years of friendship doesn't

disappear because of one painful disagreement. I hope we both continue listening, studying what is happening in Palestine, and wrestling with what neutrality means in a moment like this. My door will always be open to continue that conversation. He spoke that. You said it off.

He spoke that. No notes. No notes at all. The only thing I would say is he's being too gracious to Ed Shearer. I think that's intentional. It's his friend. It's a great strategy. It's just cooking my grits out I'm hearing because he doesn't deserve that level of consideration. But I get why he does it. It actually even to teach me. I disagree. Makes him look. Not even if that's his friend? Yeah, not even if it's his friend. Why? No, I disagree. Well, let him say your position. My position is we can be friends. but our friendship can't exist with the stakes this high. If we can disagree and still be friends, but not saying that can't ever happen. But I don't want to ever leave the impression that this is the same thing as you and I disagreeing

over who to vote for or who's going to Super Bowl or whether the ozone layer is really going away. Like, I mean, people are dying in real time. And Ed Sharon had an opportunity to take a stand. His last tour made $875 million. He's worth $400 million. He's not desperate. He's not vulnerable. I'm not counting nobody's pockets, but I think it's reasonable to say that he could afford to take a stand, and he didn't.

He folded and allowed his friend to get thrown under the bus. That is fucked up. I would also add that I think that you were underestimating the artist's power in this particular instance, because you could say, yeah, they could cancel his show. the Kraft group will lose millions and millions and millions of dollars from losing that show. Like, it's not just like, oh, well, fuck it. We'll just get something else in there that day. Like, no, that stadium is losing millions and millions of dollars and all these other stadiums that are banding with him.

He could easily make a stance and put pressure on them and did not. I totally disagree. Please tell me. You go ahead. You go for a session. Two things. Oh, you're in trouble. Robert Kraft and the other stadium owners for them to lose two or three million dollars in a

night. It's not $2 or $3 million. Give me a number. I'm not positive, but maybe, yeah. 10. They don't have insurance? They don't have insurance? Maybe. No, 10. And so as you are really my friend, you are now telling me to take my career, take the food off of my kids' table, and I might not be willing to do that. It's no different than certain topics we might bring out a, here, Joel say take that out. I understand why Joe's saying and take it out because it's the Joe button podcast. So if any backlash falls, it falls on Joe. It don't fall on us. It falls on Joe. So certain topics, Joe will be like, nope, nope, nope, we're not doing that. And I understand why.

So for Ed Shearron's point, yo, you're my man. Your stance is your stance. But I still got a tour. I still got other people that might have given me deposits that could sue me if I don't make these tour dates. Whatever the case may be, I don't know how the inner workings of that go. But I wouldn't ask my friend to jeopardize putting food on the table for him and his family at the way he sees fit because he don't necessarily want to take a stand with me. I'm not mad at either party. Like, I think what McLemore did is courageous. And I think that it's dope. And he deserves his praise.

But I wouldn't call Ed sharing a bitch for not necessarily standing up for that. I wouldn't use that word. I'm a coward. If you, my friend, we had this conversation before. before you even hit the stage to do any of that. If we're going on tour together, because we know the stakes. You know the stakes, I know the stakes.

so we got to think about that. Second, the stakes of their living or dying or feeding their kids are not, I'm talking about in the United States at these stadiums does not hinge on what McElmore did. It hinges on the decision of Robert Kraft and those owners to make the stadium

inaccessible to them. on how empathetic we should be. Both things could be equally true. You can't say, yo, I understand that you got a family to feed over here, but over there these things are happening, so you should not be able to feed your family. perspective is my decision at this point directly affects them. Yes. People that I know. People that I see, like I, this if I say, you know what, I'm Rockwood-McClemore, and the rest of this tour is canceled, the guy that I saw building, like, that decision directly

for them. I don't think that it has to be that black and white, though, because the rest of the tour wasn't canceled. There was however many six stadiums that had a problem, which maybe if there was economic pressure, placed on by the fans and by the artist who's bringing these 70,000 people into the building,
