All right, And we are officially live. I'll name this podcast later. Episode number 36. I'm your host, Joe Budden. I'm here with, I was about to say the lovely,
Starting point is 00:00:34 but that would have been horrible. You said it last week, asshole. Yeah, but I was in a better mood last week. I'm here with Madi the body. She's here. Say hi. Michael Roars is here. I guess it's a thing now. We're like a fleece little situation going on. It's cold in here. She's here. Say hi. Hey. Michael Roars is here. I guess it's a thing now. Like a fleece little situation going on.
Starting point is 00:00:47 It's cold in here. It's usually 100 degrees. Today, it's 30 degrees in here. Everywhere that I've been today has been freezing as far as the temperature goes. I don't think people got the memo that the season has changed, which I'm a very big fan of. But we'll talk about that later. I have Beyonce here. And her lace front.
Starting point is 00:01:06 Fresh lace on the forehead. You gotta say hi to the mic. She didn't need to say it. That's Danielle. We have Danielle. Danielle is a part... Don't do that again. No, no. It's over for squad. Danielle is a part of Marissa's squad.
Starting point is 00:01:21 And you've been on this podcast before while I was absent. No, that was Samira. Samira was on here. She's been on the artwork before, though. But you've never actually been on the podcast. Well, Deontay does have a new lace front, and it's making her forehead extremely relevant. But pretty girls have big foreheads.
Starting point is 00:01:40 They do. Girls with good pussy do have good foreheads, so shout out to you. Yes, they do. What are you clapping about? I don't know. I have a Yeah, girls with good pussy do have good foreheads. So shout out to you. Yes, they do. Damn. What are you clapping about? I don't know. I have a big forehead.
Starting point is 00:01:49 And good vagine. We'll talk about that in a second. I don't know. That's the thing. We're getting beside the point. Debatable. You don't know. And we have a guest here. Internet.
Starting point is 00:01:57 We have a special guest. Internet. Don't make a drum roll. It's a letter. Drum roll, please. I'm sorry. My drum roll is horrible. We don't have any sound effects.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Combat Jack is here. Yo, what's up, guys? What's up, Joe? What's up, people? Thanks for having me on here. I can't tell you people how ecstatic I am that Combat Jack is here. How ecstatic are you, man? You're one of the people that I just like.
Starting point is 00:02:24 I appreciate that, man. That's rare. Yeah, you don't like a lot of people that I just like. I appreciate that, man. That's rare. Yeah, you don't like a lot of people. Joe hates everyone. I don't like very many people, but from when I first met Combat Jack when I did his podcast, I'm a fan of intellectual men in particular.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Okay, thank you, man. And you were just very warm. You were very personable, and that experience always stuck with me, and I followed you, man. And you were just very warm. You were very personable. And that experience always stuck with me. And I followed you from then. So this is great for me. That was one of the rare mushy moments that I will have on this podcast. We know you don't like intellectual women.
Starting point is 00:02:56 We did numbers, too. That episode did good numbers, man. Did it? It did great numbers. Well, all your episodes do. No, no, but that was a good one, man. Oh, okay. I remember specifically. Was it a full circle moment for you, no, but that was a good one, man. Oh, okay, good, good. I remember specifically.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Was it a full circle moment for you then? Because we asked about love and hip hop, and it got on that wave, and it did well. I didn't know very much about Combat Jack when I first did his podcast, and it was one of the more, it was one of those days, it was a press day. It was at the end of the press day, I had I just come off Answering the same questions All day long And I got to Combat's podcast
Starting point is 00:03:30 And it was an amazing Interview It was one of those Interviews where I was fully engaged Even though I was probably Exhausted and ready
Starting point is 00:03:38 To go home So I did appreciate that I appreciate that too man And I'm glad It did numbers I am I'm glad it did numbers too man Thank you
Starting point is 00:03:44 And now he's using your album as a coaster Fuck man, so snitching Listen, we have a no snitching policy in here, Except for when they snitch. Except for when we snitch. We always snitch on each other. No, that's normally you. No. Now, I will warn you, Combat, that your podcast is a bit more cultured than this one.
Starting point is 00:04:18 That's all right. I've listened to this podcast. Oh, great. So you know that we're very... We're fucking ridiculous. You guys are savages. Well, Joe and I have really intellectual Degenerates Conversations of substance outside of this podcast
Starting point is 00:04:31 For some reason when we get in here We act like fucking idiots Well because when we try to talk about substance Marissa can't keep up Marissa are you stunted? Are you stunted? Is that what they're saying? No, no Okay Well can you tell us a little bit about yourself Woman of substance. Are you stunted? Is that what they're saying? No. No. I'm no.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Okay. Well, can you tell us a little bit about yourself for some people that may not have listened, the five people that haven't listened to a podcast? Who in the podcast world does not know who Combat Jack is? Yeah, because people that listen to podcasts, they listen to all the podcasts. They're podcasters. I'm black. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:59 I do a podcast. All right. I like music. Done. I'm on this show. That's it. Is that good enough? That's all we need. Nah. Nah. We'm on this show. That's it. Is that good enough? That's all we need.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Nah. Nah, we're going to dig deeper than that. Let's dig then, man. Now, what is your background? My background in terms of Haitian American. Oh, that's good to know. I'm Haitian American, first generation American. You practice law?
Starting point is 00:05:21 I'm an attorney. Are you still practicing? Well, I mean, I'm always going to be an attorney. I don't practice anymore, but I'm an attorney. Are you still practicing? Well, I mean, I'm always going to be an attorney. I don't practice anymore, but I'm an attorney. That makes sense. I'm an author. Damn. You used to work at The Source?
Starting point is 00:05:33 I used to work at The Source briefly. How briefly? I was trying to make it to 12 months. But wait, is that when The Source was The Source, or is that when Benzino happened? Post-Benzino. It was post-Benzino. Okay, okay, okay. It was 2011.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Oh. And it was... Jesus, I'm old. Yeah. Is that when you guys were in that room? No, no. We were down in Wall Street. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Oh, by the bowl, right? That's this big office. The last time I went to the source, it was a room. And then we went to a smaller office, and then when I bounced, I heard they ended up in the room. Yeah, someone in the west side. I was pre-room so you are well traveled
Starting point is 00:06:08 yeah I am so what made you want to just do a podcast um I became a blogger I went from being like talk about falling off I went from being an attorney to a blogger a blogger is a prestigious career and I guess so
Starting point is 00:06:23 like the poorest former journalist excuse me everyone I make a living career. And I guess so. It's like the poorest form of journalism. Excuse me, everyone. No, actually. I make a living off of it. I enjoy it. Now, what kind of blogs do you write? I do flexes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Okay, so you do content aggregation. Yeah. So I'm talking about the renaissance of the blog, the hip hop blog era, which was like around 05, 06. I was doing a lot of long form. I was doing a lot of long form because this is when I just left my practice. And I was just, you know, it was being really therapeutic in terms of just expressing my experiences with Lior and Diddy and Dame Dash. And at a certain point after two years, I ran out of shit to write. Well, you had your own site, right?
Starting point is 00:07:00 Yeah, I had my own site, The Daily Mathematics. But you were also contributing to other sites. Yes. Complex, Source, XXL. I actually was hired by XXL for a short stint. And then I ran out of shit to write. And then I got approached by this cat, A-King, from the now defunct PNC online radio show. And he was like, yo, you, Dallas, why don't you guys do a show? So we were doing an online radio show called The Combat Jack Show.
Starting point is 00:07:23 And then we converted that into a podcast and the rest is history. Oh, that's great. And then you started the Loudspeakers Network, right? The Loudspeakers is the umbrella network. We have the Reed, Brilliant Idiots, Fan Bros, Ice-T's Final Level, Tax Stone, Tax, you know,
Starting point is 00:07:39 Ice-T is over there too? Ice-T just came over there. Ice-T is my neighbor. Really? Yeah. So I've been in your neighborhood? Oh, always. Yeah. I see him everywhere I go. That's a nice neighborhood, man. It's all right.
Starting point is 00:07:51 It's a nice view. Are you on the same side as T? Yeah, I'm on the same side. My house is not as nice as his. He just built a beautiful, immaculate place. It's not a pretty decent place. Now, do you game? Do you video game?
Starting point is 00:08:02 No, never. Because T is a big gamer. Oh, he is not. No, he is a big gamer. No, i'm talking about joe i've never really you walk into t's house and he's got like replica like gears of war machine guns and like he's really into it oh yeah what's his podcast about um about everything okay current events the lifestyle interviews yeah it's a lifestyle he's asked me to do that podcast on numerous occasions. It's fun, man.
Starting point is 00:08:25 That would be cool. It's fun. Well, I love Ice. We should have him here, too. We should do like a cross pod. We did speak about that. Cross pod-anization. I just didn't know that.
Starting point is 00:08:37 The Loudspeaker Network has all of the podcasts. Yeah, you guys have everything but us. No, no. Fuck that. We're independent. We don't need to make a label. You have lip service, too, right? We have lip service. No, no, you got to know. No, no, fuck that. Fuck that. We're independent. We don't need the major label. You have lip service too, right? We have lip service.
Starting point is 00:08:46 No, we like E1 over here. We're independent. But wait, we keep all our advertising. All right, Death Jam. We got E1 over here. Wait, how did they? You guys kind of monopolize this. I was just going to say it's a monopoly.
Starting point is 00:08:58 We're not monopolizing. We just have a lot of momentum. How do you decide who gets a shot um so so it comes down to you know of course who the personality is um what their history is for ice tea it was like it was a legendary acquisition he had a he had a podcast and we spoke about maybe him joining forces and maybe us being able to help, you know, in his momentum and in his movement. And he saw it and he, he jumped on it.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Um, you know, uh, Charlemagne is, is, you know, the brilliant idiots. my partner,
Starting point is 00:09:34 Chris Morrow has a relationship with, with, with Charlemagne. And I guess Charlemagne felt that, you know, to be at his most uninhibited self, he needed a podcast. And I think he loves it and he's done great for the, for, for his most uninhibited self, he needed a podcast. And I think he loves it,
Starting point is 00:09:45 and he's done great for the network. Both Kid Fury, who's on The Read. Yeah, great things about that one. It's our biggest show. I heard a lot about Kid Fury's podcast as well. Lipstick Alley, they talk about that shit. No, that kid is a superstar. That kid is a freaking superstar.
Starting point is 00:10:04 He's retweeting on my timeline every day. He retweets on your timeline? Yeah, I don't follow him, but he's on my timeline. Everyone else follows him. But both Charlamagne and Kid Fury were like, yo, fuck with this kid, tax them. So that's how we saw tax. It's a myriad of things.
Starting point is 00:10:24 What's your numbers on social media? How smart are you? Or how ratchet are you? Or what are you bringing to the table? You know what I'm saying? What are you bringing to the table? Because we wanted to have a network that spoke all voices. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:10:38 So I guess on one end, I'm like the highbrow, like Charlie Rose of this shit. Brilliant idiots Are fucking idiots You know And then But they're brilliant But they're brilliant And then the phenomena That's taxed on
Starting point is 00:10:51 You know And tax season Is that He's bringing podcasts To the hood Hood Like I'm talking about Niggas that don't know
Starting point is 00:10:59 What the fuck A podcast is Trust me I've heard the Fucking hood Is motherfuckers Like I don't know What a podcast is
Starting point is 00:11:03 But I fuck with tax shit people. And that's amazing. Like, my shit is considered too highbrow for some of his audience. But, you know, tax is a brilliant dude. And he, you know, is a sense of camaraderie. And we're just trying to make history. We don't know exactly what the fuck we're doing because the shit is still brand new. Neither do we.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Nobody does. Wait, Brent, how long has this network been running? The network has been running for about two years. Yeah. Really? Yeah, it's really still brand new, man. Oh, man, they got Peter the fuck out of here, man. They didn't kill him.
Starting point is 00:11:35 I mean, they're still doing okay, too. Peter's doing all right. Who are you talking about? No, no, no. I'm talking about the idea. Oh, of a network. Of a network. Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha.
Starting point is 00:11:44 Yeah, but geez, two years. Well, you know. That's amazing. There's always strength in numbers. And, you know, now that Peter and I are the best of friends again. Well, you guys are on a much better page. We're on a much better page. And you guys did a panel together at AJC.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Yeah, we did a panel. Yes, it was a podcast panel. Oh, wow, look at y'all. And they said you were invited and then you weren't able to make it because you had left already. And then I was offended because no one asked me to do it. Well, I listened to um i listened to you on when you were on taxes podcast when that whole you and pete shit was going on and i won't delve too much into that for the people that don't know um yeah yeah that's over and done
Starting point is 00:12:18 and use your googles if you want to go back. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's over. But when it was happening, I agreed with everything you said. Really? Yeah, I understood everything you were saying, and it led me to have quite a few conversations with Peter. And listening to your show, I did appreciate at least the public conversations that you guys had. Yeah, and we've had many private conversations because with me, a lot of people are unable to see with eyes that aren't their own.
Starting point is 00:12:47 Right. So sometimes we don't know how we come off. Right. And, you know, I talked to Peter all the time. I just told him the other day, I said, I like you much better on ESPN than I like you on Hot. Because is he more in his element? I haven't seen him on ESPN. No, he's more out of his element.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Really? That's not true. He's more particular about what he says. No, he's more out of his element. Really? That's not true. So he's a bit particular about what he says. On ESPN, he is with Michael Kay and Don McGrecker, two very established people in sports radio.
Starting point is 00:13:12 Right. And he's added to the show to add some spunk and some flavor, but Peter is very knowledgeable when it comes to sports. Absolutely, yeah. Now, not as knowledgeable
Starting point is 00:13:21 as those guys, of course. That's what I was suggesting. But who is as knowledgeable as Michael K No I'm sorry I was suggesting that he may be more Knowledgeable in hip hop than he is in sports Yeah but In that arena So in 97 he's a bit higher
Starting point is 00:13:37 In class and may come off A bit more smug when he's talking about hip hop Rather than he would talking about Sports among people He's smug when he talks hip about hip-hop, rather than he would talking about sports among people. Being the new guy, yeah. No, he's smug when he talks hip-hop. He's smug. Yeah, he's not come off smug.
Starting point is 00:13:50 He's smug. But I do like him on ESPN much better. I got to check it out, man. Yeah, well, I listen to sports radio. I don't listen to... Yeah, that's like Joe Shipp. I don't listen to FM radio. Right, me neither. Period, because it's just not...
Starting point is 00:14:02 It's just not... I'm old, man. Yeah. I'm old. I mean, but then it's not just an age thing because my kids never listen to FM radio. I do. 197 all day. Holla.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Well, you were there. No, no, seriously. My 17, my 18-year-old, they don't listen to the radio. Well, they probably didn't grow up on radio being the surrounding force when it comes to music. No, the only time they were forced to listen to radio was when I was driving them to school. And then when I made the transition from terrestrial to satellite, they were listening to Stern a lot.
Starting point is 00:14:32 The only time I've ever seen my kids listen to the radio, live radio, was Beats 1 when they dropped the Future Drake mixtape. That's the only time they listened to quote-unquote live radio. On their own. Of their own vol only time they listen to quote unquote live radio. On their own. Of their own volition.
Starting point is 00:14:46 You listen to Stern a lot? Every morning. That's damn near like a podcast. I feel like that's the closest thing. Well his interviews. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:54 His interviews. I wasn't into Stern with all the crazy white boy hijinks from like the 80s and the 90s. Oh with like Jackie the Joke Man
Starting point is 00:15:02 and shit like that. Jackie the Joke Man or even Artie who's become a good friend of mine. But his interviews are, I mean, if you listen to Howard Stern
Starting point is 00:15:11 on a daily basis, that's a daily course in how to interview people. It's crazy. Yeah, I listened to one a couple, like at a party. We put it on for an hour. We just sat there
Starting point is 00:15:18 and fucking listened to a Rich Cronin interview from 2009. And he's mastered, I think, you know, in terms of what's out there on the landscape right now And he's mastered, I think, you know, in terms of what's out there on the landscape right now, he's mastered the art
Starting point is 00:15:28 of interviewing celebrities and people that you don't give a fuck. Right, and make it interesting. You care about nobody. Exactly. That's probably why
Starting point is 00:15:36 Howard Stern is Howard Stern. He is the legend in radio that he is. Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep. He is the GOAT. Now, I was reading something today and I'm already mad. You're making my podcast too mature already. I know. he is the goat now I was reading something today and
Starting point is 00:15:46 I'm already mad you're making my podcast too mature already I know we've been too nice and cool you want me to pull out my dick there we go there we go there's a story that broke now this story didn't break today
Starting point is 00:16:03 it rebroke today I guess with about that cat There's a story that broke. Now, this story didn't break today. It rebroke today, I guess. About that cat. Which cat? That pulled out his dick. Hey, I walked right into that one. You did. Combat has all of the fucking 80s. I was just about to say the really shit my pops used to say.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Yeah, I love it. I love it. I love it I love it I love it No I'm talking about And I feel bad for this kid Drum Right So
Starting point is 00:16:30 Cha-cha So Drake Put out the hot The hotline The video Bling video Which I guess you should do that For a song that's shooting up the charts
Starting point is 00:16:40 So I do understand that His goal is to get a number one And so it's perfect timing I love that video Because it's like Him dancing is Saying to whomever You're getting bodied by a corny nigga
Starting point is 00:16:51 For real He looks like my dad When my dad's cooking And he knows it's gonna be Like some good shit He's like ooh He's really continuing to prove That he can do whatever he wants
Starting point is 00:16:59 And it will be accepted by this audience And it's amazing But it was calculated He was gonna be memes and gifs all day What'd you think about it, Joe? Alright, it's two. But it was calculated. He was going to be memes and gifs all day. What did you think about it, Joe? All right. It's twofold for me. I enjoyed Portia Jenkins,
Starting point is 00:17:11 one of the dancers. She looked immaculate. One of the full-bodied? Yeah. Yes. Yeah, very curvaceous. Yes. How do you know her?
Starting point is 00:17:18 Very attractive. I don't know her. Okay. I don't know her. The timeline told him who she was. No, I follow her on Instagram. That's the only reason I was able to...
Starting point is 00:17:23 Drake is committed To the plushest women Yeah Drake Drake We can talk about all that later But I like the video
Starting point is 00:17:33 I like the dancing I do think that it was calculated He did no means Would come I like the evolution I remember when Drake videos were really bad Really trash Best I ever had was
Starting point is 00:17:43 Yeah That was like That was always his Achilles heel. That was like the knock on him. So to see him in better videos, to see him dressed better. Was he dressed better though? Because he still had some.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Dressed better at J's. The sweater thing. Like, I mean, I'm not Canadian. I'm not fucking Drake. I'm not fucking on top of the world. But dude, like the... Drake can do whatever he wants. You gotta remember how Drake used to dress, though.
Starting point is 00:18:09 Like a young Cosby. So now it's like less... It's like the same sweaters, but less colors. But yeah, so about the cha-cha thing. He... The thing that was funny about that is when Drake performed it at his friend's wedding before dropping the song,
Starting point is 00:18:25 and it was like a sample video that went around like Drake has a new song he's about to drop, everyone labeled it as a Cha-Cha remix. They thought that's what that was. They thought he did a verse on drum single. Well, that's what I thought it was too. And so then it came out and it wasn't necessarily associated with the song. But if you go to a club, they blend it with the song or whatever. But it doesn't sound.
Starting point is 00:18:44 I mean mean the sounds aren't too similar they're not too far apart that's the same beat yeah and so it's the same beat tinkered with now i saw something on my timeline today from and i clicked on his page and he has like a hundred thousand followers so i guess he's in the know somewhere somewhere dram dram no no not drum some guy said that drake actually asked dram to do a verse on his song okay and dram turned it down so i don't know how true that was. Like I said, I clicked on this guy's page.
Starting point is 00:19:06 He seems like he's in the know. He has a good following. So now Drom is, his feelings are there. He's salty. Well, Drom tweeted, he tweeted, I feel like,
Starting point is 00:19:14 yeah, I feel like he stole my song. Stole my song. But you know what? If that were to happen, why is he just not suing? Yeah, because if you,
Starting point is 00:19:22 if you, like, lifted the song, then you get that you get that money but hey lawyer tell us what happened in this situation we never fact check on the show now we can fact check i mean i listened to the songs and i could see the similarities and musically musically but drum has to prove let Let's look at the Blurred Lines case. Well, the Blurred Lines case I think was a little different
Starting point is 00:19:50 because if you play Cha-Cha and if you play Hotline Bling, see, I got to listen to Cha-Cha again to see if it automatically reminds me of Hotline Bling. But when you listen to Blurred Lines, you hear the Marvin Gaye song. You hear that song. I don't know if it's note for note or whatever, but it sounds identical. Daniel, you got it on your phone? No, I have it, and it's right here, because I went and immediately checked.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Never mind, Dan. And when I heard it, all right, I don't know if I'm doing this correctly. What are we playing first, Cha-Cha? Cha-Cha. Okay. We're going to play Cha-Cha, then we're going to go into Hotline. Austin, this is Hooked Up. Damn, you guys are so tech savvy right here.
Starting point is 00:20:38 No, we just found a court on the table. Usually I have my laptop. This is the first episode I've heard. I know, what the fuck, Roars? I was in a rush because Joe did the Larry Wilmore show. What is that? The nightly show on Comedy Central.
Starting point is 00:20:48 How was that? Really good. Congratulations, man. Thank you. That was a really good experience. Larry was real cool. I was going to invite myself in the group chat
Starting point is 00:20:54 and then I just didn't feel like I figured you'd say no. Mess with this because that thing is taking too long. But I fact checked which I never do and I went to go check
Starting point is 00:21:02 on this Cha Cha song that I'm not 100% familiar with. Oh, yeah. I could see Drake doing his little... Just listen to the beef. Sounds like a sample, man. If it were to be sampled. It sounds like a typical kind of like...
Starting point is 00:21:28 Bachata song. Cha-cha, merengue type, Latino type of song. Eventually those chords are going to change. Yeah, because this is a video, that's why. But we can turn that off. Does it sound... That's enough in court. That's enough.
Starting point is 00:21:51 To what? To sue. Now, not drum. Not drum. Whoever created this beat. Right. Because the Drake song is a different song altogether. And it has a different producer.
Starting point is 00:22:03 This beat... Is that producer that did drum shit... Did drum produce that? Because he's a producer as well. And it has a different producer. This beat. Is that producer that did Drom shit? Well, did Drom produce that? Because he's a producer as well. I don't know. He might have. Okay.
Starting point is 00:22:10 I'll Google it. We got to go to the facts. But whoever did the beat. We don't like to do that on this show. Yeah, that's because we got to go to the facts because you got to understand also,
Starting point is 00:22:17 you know, ideas are contagious. Very. Ideas are contagious. So it's a matter of whether this idea was floating around at the same time or Drake's camp her cha-cha was like yo let's get that alright I have to play devil's advocate
Starting point is 00:22:33 we have Drom now he's from Toronto too right no Drom is from Virginia we had the two kids from Houston Sauce Twins? Yes. Sauce Twins.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Oh, because he did the dance in the video is what they're saying. They were accusing Drake of stealing a bunch of shit. Right. Produced by Gabe Niles is the guy that made Cha-Cha. What's up, Gabe? Hey, Gabe. I think Drake is in a space where none of this really matters. I don't think.
Starting point is 00:23:02 Yeah, it doesn't matter. And I think he's at a space where if he did or if someone along the trail lifted it you can pay him yeah that's what i'm saying it's like so many keep it moving so what kind of numbers we talking do i mean it depends like at this point you know initially some shit like that might be like 2500 5000 when it gets to this point it might be 50 25 0000 50 If it goes to court Shit could end up 5, 10
Starting point is 00:23:28 15, 20 million You know what I mean? Well where I feel bad for drama In this situation is People like Migos Makonnen Fetty All got the Drake treatment
Starting point is 00:23:37 Which was Let me take your record Put a verse on it Make it bigger In this instance Just give me that record Yeah That's all it was it wasn't like drake
Starting point is 00:23:47 put a verse on cha-cha he made a whole new song and then 1985 produced hotline bling but but that but that's but that's my argument that's a whole new song hotline bling is a whole new song it's not him rhyming over cha-cha yeah maybe it's sampling credit at that point i don't know if you can really say it is a new song i just inspired by yeah maybe it's sampling credit at that point i don't know if you can really say it is a new song i just inspired by yeah but that's what the problem with what you call it was the other one pharrell said he didn't sample it at all he was inspired by marvin you know it's funny i spoke to everyone about the whole blurred lines thing and he was like pharrell's problem might be that his the way his mind works He's already got the song locked in his mind
Starting point is 00:24:27 So he's creating it Not thinking He's recreating it But he's so brilliant that he's recreating it Yeah, I could see it Yeah And he was like, yo, if that's the case It's fucked up
Starting point is 00:24:38 How this shit rolled out Because he didn't actually jack it But he created the same fucking song And they got them from mad money, B. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I hear a lot of that. And what's the guy's name? Jaday?
Starting point is 00:24:51 Jadana? Jadana. Well, they actually credited Iggy and paid those people for- Yeah, I know. I read that. I read that. They wasn't playing no- And they was like, we didn't even sample it, but we're not playing those games.
Starting point is 00:25:00 We're not going to court. You're not Marvin Gaye and me. No blurred lines. We'll pay you. But you know, if you have money, one thing I noticed is if you have money, like back in the day when I was doing deals, and I remember specifically one time one of my songwriters wrote Carl Thomas' I Wish I Never Met. Classic.
Starting point is 00:25:18 I think we've heard of it. Yeah, Sunshine. No, no, Carl Thomas. And so we got a call one day from Def Jet and it was for Jay-Z's I Just Wanna and they were like that piece
Starting point is 00:25:31 they were like yo we're ready to pay for that shit we could argue it's parody we could argue that we're not really sampling that this is just they paid a check and they were like fuck all the bullshit. I mean, that's such a, I can't afford that record.
Starting point is 00:25:48 It's different in terms of where you are leverage wise, what you have in your pocket and just how savvy you are with the business. Like it may be a lawsuit. It may not be a lawsuit. Here, take this check. Why even risk it? So how much, how much was that? I mean, I know back then.
Starting point is 00:26:01 I mean, it was, it was nominal because it was like, yo, word, y'all are paying us for that? Fuck it, we'll take it. I mean, it was nominal because it was like, yo, word? Y'all are paying us for that? Fuck it, we'll take it. Like, really, it was like, oh, we'll take it. Whatever you want. Okay. Because it was such a surprise that they approached us. I was about to say, but that's like real nigga shit. You have these people out here that, you know, they will go to, they stop at nothing to extort
Starting point is 00:26:22 and just make a come up off of the most tedious of details like that I wish I never met her arguing parody shit. I would take that check too. It was a decent surprise, man. You brought up Pusha. Where do you stand on
Starting point is 00:26:39 Pusha and Drake? If they would ever go at it. Which I do believe will happen one day. Pusha and Drake If they would ever If they would ever go at it Which I do believe Will happen one day One day someone's gonna Pusha and Drake Yeah what do you stand on that? Kendrick and Drake
Starting point is 00:26:52 Oh yeah those There's been some subliminals there too though There's been some subliminals We gotta get Is it sub What's the Define subliminal for me I'm talking about you
Starting point is 00:27:03 But I'm not But if you're paying attention You know I'm talking about you. But if you're paying attention, you know I'm talking about you, but cats that might not know that I'm talking about you won't know I'm talking about you. Like Kendrick's referenced the Ghostwriter shit a couple times. It was definitely about Drake, and Drake knew it. Those are subliminals,
Starting point is 00:27:17 but when you come out and say, yo, yo, fuck you, Drake. Like Kendrick's control verse. Right. Was Kendrick's control verse. Right. Was not so subliminal. But then again, that was kind of masked in the sense of I'm just casually calling you out as my peer and not necessarily. Yeah, I didn't think it was a diss either.
Starting point is 00:27:35 But yeah, give me. I don't think we'll see Kendrick and Drake. Take over and ether were not subliminals. At all. At all. Oh, the good old days in hip hop. Right? At all. We'll never get that again. We don't get those days anymore. You know, 50 was not.liminals. At all. At all. Oh, the good old days in hip hop. Right? At all.
Starting point is 00:27:45 We'll never get that again. We don't get those days anymore. We get one and no. There's no subliminal in 50 Cent's body. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Poor jaw. Now, push it.
Starting point is 00:27:57 Why do you say poor jaw? 50 killed that man's career 10 years ago. But he's still around. I mean, he made it out. Got a reality show coming out. He made it out, but he's still around I mean he made it out he's got a reality show coming out he made it out but he soiled his
Starting point is 00:28:07 fucking name his legacy too like he was so hit for hit for hit and now it's like you say but you know what though I think
Starting point is 00:28:14 and I'm not I'm not necessarily arguing against you but the quality of music that Ja made during his reign yo that made our
Starting point is 00:28:23 high school life you can't deny that shit. And when you get nostalgic and when you hear those songs, it's like, oh shit. It takes you back to that moment before. That was like the epitome of like
Starting point is 00:28:35 ninth, tenth grade on the school bus singing those fucking songs. Him and J-Lo and Asante. Oh my God. We thought we were J-Lo. If Put It On Me comes on right now, just get up and start dancing. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Of course. Yeah, that's true. But now, Jai had joints after that, after that whole, he had a song in 07 called Body or something like that. I fucking like that song.
Starting point is 00:28:54 No one else did, but I like that song. I don't know if I recall that song. And his publishing, and you know, I mean, he's making bread. I'm just saying like his name
Starting point is 00:28:59 and how his name was, he's left out of a lot of conversations now because of what 50 did. But I think it's starting to come back. Yeah. You know, 50 is an asterisk to his name was he left out of a lot of conversations now because of what 50 did but i think it's starting to come back yeah you know 50 is an asterisk to his name yeah but i mean and then if you look beyond jaw you know irv is now a legend like irv gadi is a legend i'd agree that is true yeah all right but you ducked my uh you ducked my pusher Drake question. You almost successfully took. You almost did that. Because, you know, when I talk about shit like this, it comes back to me.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Yeah, we know all about that. Shout out to me and Nikki. I know a little bit about that, too. All I can say is I'd love to see that. You know, I'd love to see a good battle. That would be some lyrical shit. With pusher and Drake. Because, you know, I'd love to see a good battle. That would be some lyrical shit. With Pusher and Drake. Because Drake has momentum.
Starting point is 00:29:48 I think Drake has the advantage. But I think to his benefit, we've come to sleep on Pusher. And that puts Pusher in a good vein. Don't put me in the we. Okay, but no, I'm saying collectively. We're all waiting for P Pusha to drop his shit, and I love Pusha, but I would hate to see Pusha really turned up.
Starting point is 00:30:12 And unlike Meek, Pusha thinks before he speaks, and he is probably equally as calculated as Drake. We haven't been able to see that. Well, unlike Meek, Pusha can rap. That's number one. Can't Meek rap, though? Wasn't Meek the celebrated battle rapper? Not by this podcast.
Starting point is 00:30:28 Well, no. You know what it is, Jack? We hear that going around, that Meek was this battle rapper. Punch lines. We haven't seen that. We haven't seen that on this arena. We saw the footage of him with the dirty braids rapping to a camera, and that is why everybody calls him a battle rapper.
Starting point is 00:30:50 I don't think we've ever seen him battle the way battle rappers are battling. And we do know also that battle rappers may not necessarily make the best records. Yeah, and we know that as well. So that's one. Two, Meek can rap. Yes. So let me clarify this for the listeners. When I say I'm talking about a much higher level of rapping, Meek can rap.
Starting point is 00:31:10 You know they're not going to take that sound bite. Pusha is different. Pusha is an MC. Yeah, he's one of the gentlemen that, he's somewhere waiting for someone to say something for him. Yeah, he's one of those. You don't really want to mess with people. And that's what I'm,
Starting point is 00:31:27 that's what I mean. Like people are sleeping on his skills. Yeah. To his benefit. To his benefit. It'll be that much more of a conversation. Who doesn't know that Pusha is an amazing MC? The casual fan that we've discussed multiple times.
Starting point is 00:31:40 But it's been a while since Pusha has really been in a conversation. And as the industry goes right now, as listeners go, that's eons. Whatever you've done for me lately. Yeah, exactly. So he's not in a conversation. So people are not expecting him to drop some hot shit until he does. With a casual fan, we just saw Drake kill Meek. So now in the casual fan's head is Drake can battle.
Starting point is 00:32:03 Right. Well, Drake can battle. Yeah. And Drake is very smart. head is Drake can battle. Or Drake can battle. Drake is very smart. Drake is calculating his thoughts. There's so many levels. I think he's calculating to know not to push. As Meek would say, there's levels to this.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Should have took his own advice. Now that Tadal concert, the title concert. Tadal. Tadal. That concert concert Tadal I definitely did Tadal That concert is happening Right now
Starting point is 00:32:28 Right as we speak But last night to the listeners Well yeah last night Oh you guys drop the next day Yeah Oh that's awesome Yeah we drop in the morning That's a
Starting point is 00:32:36 Yeah I mean How does it normally go No cause I usually take a week Before I drop my song Oh no Now we don't play those games Around here B You know what I was telling
Starting point is 00:32:44 We feed the people. I was telling Rory, because I'm actually scheduled to be on Tax's podcast. Yes. Really? Next week. And he records on Monday and drops Wednesday. Yes. Now, we complain here about recording Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:33:00 We used to record Tuesday afternoon and dropping Wednesday because it seemed like something would always happen on Tuesday night that you needed to touch on. And we just always missed it. So I'm amazed. Not so much as your podcast because y'all have a lot of substance on your shit. But like tax Monday to Wednesday, I would be petrified of that gap. I mean, one thing is we do have a good team. I'm not saying y'all don't have a good team, but we have a good team. This is the team.
Starting point is 00:33:26 The gang's all here. I got a shout out on one of our producers, Jonathan Mena, who works both on the Combat Jack show and Tax Season. And he's up all night. If you give him something, if there's a deadline, he's making that deadline. We need a producer like that. Editing that shit, shaving shit off, adding shit. He really adds texture to the shows, man.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Yeah, I'm doing Texas podcast, and that's supposed to be my podcast enemy. Really? Yeah, fake for fake. People are trying to pitch out against each other, or? Because both of y'all. Well, we both drop on Wednesdays. I think that's probably it. Yeah, that's it.
Starting point is 00:34:04 Outside of our jokes Do you guys joke with each other? Oh yeah we joke on and off Yeah yeah yeah 100% That's all this is And like what is a podcast beef? Like there's no such thing
Starting point is 00:34:18 To me there's no such thing as a podcast beef There can be podcast beef Explain it to me I mean that's if you legitimately don't fuck with the person. Define beef first. Okay, so when I wasn't fucking with Rosenberg, right? I never viewed that. It was personal to me.
Starting point is 00:34:35 I never viewed that as a podcast beef. No, it was personal. But then, and I spoke about it when we were at the panel down at A3C. the panel down at A3C. So me being kind of like a snob in terms of what I do and then me feeling a type of way about Rosenberg at the time, whenever somebody would say, oh, I
Starting point is 00:34:54 fuck with the Combat Jack show and Juan Epstein or vice versa, I'd go my show is not their show! You know what I'm saying? Like, no! And it took me to grow, me to let go of that shit and then us to resolve that shit
Starting point is 00:35:08 to realize that we were two different sides of the coin in a sense because of their level of appreciation for the talent that they bring on and ours,
Starting point is 00:35:19 but it's just two different shows. It is. Yeah. You know, but I just used to hate. My ego used to be like, no, that's not me. It's like, you know, i just used to hate my ego used to be like no that's not me
Starting point is 00:35:25 it's like you know i felt like if somebody was comparing and i'm not calling this them and that but it's like if somebody's comparing your music to soldier boy right you're writing that would be insulting shout out to soldier but you Boy. But you know what I'm saying? You're not shitting on Soulja Boy. You'd be like, and you know, what I realized and what I've come to appreciate about Juan Epstein is that, you know,
Starting point is 00:35:54 they're the fan boys, kind of like sophomoric, like, like we're just happy to be in a room with you guys. You know what I mean? So when they would, you know, and I'd be like,
Starting point is 00:36:02 like, you know, I'd be the bourgeois, like, don't compare me to those guys. Yeah, I get it. Yeah. I get it. That makes sense.
Starting point is 00:36:10 So that added to the podcast beef. And fans will make it that way, too. Because fans will look like, oh, well, if they're beefing, then I got to choose sides and create the beef. Always add fuel to the fire. And then you kind of get amped off of what they're saying, too, on social media. So you're just even more so. I never viewed mine and Tax's situation to be anything like that because I guess it's similar to what you were saying. But I don't think people would pitch y'all against each other.
Starting point is 00:36:36 It's us being crazy. Yeah, it's us being crazy in what we do. And it's enjoyable for me, as I'm sure it's enjoyable for him. But I always viewed it as they're two different podcasts. Yes. Like, that serve two different purposes with two different audiences and two different. So I never, I was a little tight that he decided to drop on Wednesdays. Yeah. I mean, a lot of people did, though.
Starting point is 00:36:57 Well, a lot of people did after we. Was it after you guys started? Well after. Okay. Not well after. We're about 10 episodes ahead of tax. 10 weeks is well I can definitely tell you though
Starting point is 00:37:06 That just in terms of How we program Our schedules It wasn't something intentional More like We can't drop All of our shows On Tuesdays
Starting point is 00:37:15 Is Rob Markman On your guys Yes Rob Markman On Red Light Special Oh wait a minute Wait a minute Wait a minute I'm cool being independent
Starting point is 00:37:22 Wait a minute We getting this Independent bread, bruh I don't need to join Empire What the fuck is going on over here? Nah, we don't need to report to the man Nah, because Combat over here is extorting all of them Taking all their ad money He's the ditty on this fucking podcast shit
Starting point is 00:37:36 I see the ditty We get to the bottom of this shit I see the ditty All of this shit, yo But wait, because I'm But what is the And I have now personalized this podcast.
Starting point is 00:37:47 What incentive does, why is everybody over there? But we started with Pete. We kind of went to him. Marissa, Marissa, Marissa. I'm not talking about us. Oh, all right. Stop personalizing.
Starting point is 00:37:57 You just personalized it. I think, you know, in terms of the, Like what do y'all provide? The business of the podcast. So my partner, Chris Morrow, really understands the business of podcasting. He understands, you know, the relationship with his advertisers,
Starting point is 00:38:16 you know, the mainstream podcast advertisers as well as the independent advertisers. We provide the studio. We provide production. Some of these shows, we provide the studio. We provide production. Some of these shows, we provide the concept. We come up with the concept and help them develop the concept. And we're very fair with the splits. We're very, very fair with
Starting point is 00:38:36 the splits. Same thing Puff said to the Larks. I don't know. Hope there's no refrigerators in there. No refrigerators. And I'll tell you this, man. For the most part man our shit is not like fuck you sign this it's like yo
Starting point is 00:38:48 if you rock with us you rock with us if you feel like we recently we had not beef but we had kind of like some turmoil
Starting point is 00:38:56 with one of our shows and they were like we don't like this we don't like that and we were like alright cool man you know be out like we're good
Starting point is 00:39:01 we're good we're good at Empire we're good at Empire we're good at Empire go try it on your own little no no and they're not and mind you
Starting point is 00:39:09 they're not little like they came with their own machine but it was like if you're not happy we don't want to keep you here like if this was an idea
Starting point is 00:39:16 that worked in concept if it's not working in reality then we're good there's no slander there's nothing like that shake hands and be gone tell me where you stand and this is totally baby. Tell me where you stand, and this is totally left field.
Starting point is 00:39:27 Tell me where you stand on Derek Fisher and Matt Barnes. Let me tell you what happened. Okay, so wait a minute. So Matt Barnes is lying on his dick, right? Number one. And then Derek was digging out his wife. Ex-wife. Ex-wife.
Starting point is 00:39:44 And then my man drove miles to confront him with them hands. Yeah. Were hands placed? Yeah. I'm trying to inform the people that don't know. Who came up on that? They say that Matt Barnes came out on top of that. Okay. So
Starting point is 00:39:59 what's the question like? Where do you stand? Do you agree with that behavior from Matt Barnes? If you have an ex-wife. What, a line on his dick? Or defending his ex-wife's honor? Well, I'm trying to keep in spirit. You guys started me.
Starting point is 00:40:18 You know what I'm saying? No, it's fine. You can randomly. I don't know if there's honor if she's having consensual sex with this person. So you're not defending her honor. She chose this. I guess that's what I'm asking here. Man, Joe, you know there's no rules in this shit.
Starting point is 00:40:33 There's no rules in this love shit. You can't go beat up everybody. All is fair in love and war. There's no rules in this love shit. Damn. Oh. I wasn't saying anyone's wife was a hoe. I'm saying especially if she was a hoe. There's no rules to love shit. Damn. Oh. I wasn't saying anyone's wife was a hoe. I'm saying especially if she was a hoe.
Starting point is 00:40:47 There's no rules to this shit. Like if there's feelings, you don't know what the undercurrent is. You don't know what that situation is. It's his ex-wife and who knows
Starting point is 00:40:55 what his relationship is with Derek. Well, apparently, it said that they were friends and well, they were teammates. I don't know the degree of their friendship.
Starting point is 00:41:04 You know, that's kind of, yo, like we were like you you know her you knew there's some great area and it was a rumor going around that derrick fisher had done that to a few other people as far as that's violation girlfriends and exes i mean he's he's the coach of my team right i mean that's all i care about is he's a coach? I thought he was a player. Derek Fisher is a coach who used to be a player. Got it. Don't you do our sports segment?
Starting point is 00:41:28 Aren't you supposed to know these things? Listen, there's no rules to this shit. There's no, we all know there's no rules to this shit. I mean,
Starting point is 00:41:37 what do you think? Should he have fallen back? Like, there's no rules to this shit. I'm not going to beat, well, I can't say that because at one point
Starting point is 00:41:44 I did go try to beat up somebody who was fucking with my ex. See? Of course you did. And when you look back, you're like, maybe I shouldn't have done that. But when you were in that moment, you were right. When you were in that moment, you were right, right? There's no rules to this love shit. Was there something said that really sparked you to go do that on her behalf or his behalf?
Starting point is 00:42:01 You know how women, they often bring up shit that men totally don't understand. They're like, you wouldn't understand because that's woman shit. Yeah. At the time that this was going on, I felt like it was some undercurrent of man. Flagrancy? Yeah, there were some man laws being violated. You didn't handle your business, Sean? Yeah, and I needed to go correct it.
Starting point is 00:42:25 If you're going to take this L, at least take some personal pride with you. It wasn't about the girl. It was about the guy's motive with the girl. The girl was a pawn for him. And that happens. That happens a lot. Oh, yeah. That happens a lot in relationships.
Starting point is 00:42:38 I mean, some guys I can empathize. Some guys are like, yo, you might be able to have that, but you're always going to remember this. Ass whooping. True. This is the price you're going to pay for that relationship. This is the cost of admission to that relationship. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:56 Well, I could see it. I mean, I can never really get mad at the gentleman if he's being quiet about it and respectful about it. But if you were dirty macking behind, and my name was brought up to get this pussy, yeah, you might need to be held accountable for that. Yeah, man. Do you have a dirty mack? Nah.
Starting point is 00:43:13 There's an epidemic going on. I never dirty macked. This generation of kids. Which I don't understand because at least grown women know or should know that if a man is bringing up another man to fuck you, you probably shouldn't have his dick anywhere near you. Well, the thing about men that dirty mack this way,
Starting point is 00:43:32 I don't know why they don't know that it always gets back. Always. Like clockwork. It always comes back. I'm not sure why. I've never been that. Because she's fucking you. I've never been that type of gentleman to try to get pussy or come up on somebody else's merit.
Starting point is 00:43:47 Yeah, that's crazy. That's just a bit off to you. Use your own fucking qualities. But there's a lot of things that go on in this generation. I mean, I'm going on 19 years married next month. Jesus. How? Damn, sorry.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Wait, no, no. How did you do that? See, because you got 19 years. What year are we in? 2015? See, that was when it was safe to be married. It was safe to get married. Yeah, 96.
Starting point is 00:44:11 I don't know. Damn. I was nine. You're still nine. Yep. It seems a little more difficult to get married today in this generation for some reason. I mean, I don't know what it is with the attention span and fucking social media and Instagram and Twitter and Snapchat. I don't understand what that shit is.
Starting point is 00:44:31 It's an Instagramification fucking society. So if you fuck something up, I'm not going to fix it. I'm going to just go get something better. And what's the attention span? Because what I've learned is that shit is a lot of patience. Yep. It's a lot of patience. And also, we were really fortunate because,
Starting point is 00:44:45 you know, both of us are from Brooklyn and her pops, it was a stand-up guy. So like, even when we had friction, he was like, y'all need to fix this shit.
Starting point is 00:44:56 Oh yeah, that's not happening today. You know what I mean? Like, no, it's not happening. Even then, that was rare though.
Starting point is 00:45:01 Because most pops are going to take their daughter's side. He was like, y'all got to fix this. Y'all got to fix this. And I think family is a circumstance, extended family, how they were raised. You know what I'm saying? How they understand the importance of a family and kids.
Starting point is 00:45:18 So it really is a village, man. It's more than just the two individuals. Well, most of the women in this generation were not raised with that right around them most a lot some were not raised period not raised period yeah this shit right here scares me it's a bit different it scares me man yo this shit is a mess but you look like you having fun though man i'm not i'm not i'm so you make it look like you're having fun yeah i gotta come well i'm not coming to'm so not. But you make it look like you're having fun. I got to come. Well, I'm not coming to your pool party. You and your wife could come. A female wife could come.
Starting point is 00:45:47 You and your wife could come. I was just watching a video from the 2012 one, man. Good times. Couples came and had a great time at the pool party. And couples were made at that pool party. Yeah. So you make it look so fun, man. Even your pain and anguish.
Starting point is 00:46:02 And I know it's even the same. It's real pain and it looks. He turns it into fun music. You're so sincere, man. Even your pain and anguish. And I know it's even the pain and anguish looks fun. It looks, because you're so sincere. He turns it into fun music. You're so sincere, dude. I wouldn't say fun. You know what I'm saying? Regardless if you're wrong or you're right, you're so sincere.
Starting point is 00:46:16 And that shit, from afar, it's admirable. Because a lot of these people are fuckboys in how they try to present themselves as something they're not. Yeah, no, I'm bad at that. Yeah. I'm bad. I can never present myself as something I'm not. No, you can't. These guys take me flawed and screwed up. And yeah. But I just want to get married.
Starting point is 00:46:38 Are you ready to get married though? No, he's not. Because that's a whole other thing. I would like to think that i am marriage for men is the hardest thing because as a man i realize that we are the more selfish of the species okay and every day that goes by you got to strip layer of that shit off and try to get selfless. And that shit is, it doesn't come natural. It's an effort.
Starting point is 00:47:12 That shit is an effort. Yeah, but I... Damn, we got deep. I don't have much to say because I'm super selfish. I'd like to think that I'm pretty selfless when I'm invested. Right. I'm just not invested when I'm invested. Right.
Starting point is 00:47:25 I'm just not invested very often because I haven't met anybody to be invested with. And then what happens when they push those buttons? Oh, they got to go. They got to go. If I'm not invested. No, I'm saying if you're invested and they start pushing them, because that's when the truth, because women. Push buttons. Push buttons. We like to see what the buttons do.
Starting point is 00:47:48 We'll test it out. To this day, 19 years later, she will push those buttons. And I'll be like, yo, I'm about to push you out the motherfucking window. I had a woman try to explain to me recently that it would be nice if a man behaved not psycho or crazy, but teetering the line, and that would let her know that he cares. I think that's what women want to see. We want that nice color shirt. I don't understand the logic in that.
Starting point is 00:48:18 I mean, it's how— The psychology is off. I think it's the animal kingdom still. Right. It's like letting us know you want us. How hard are you ready to go for this? Are you ready to fight for this shit? We love that shit. They love that shit.
Starting point is 00:48:30 And I don't know if I'm going to give women that much credit, but that's your most vulnerable state is when you're that angry and the way you react is typically who you are in that instance. Dude, I've had to fight in the club. Ew. You know what I'm saying? Ew. That's nasty. But it was, but that,
Starting point is 00:48:46 once I got through that level, it was like, okay, we're good now? Like, we're good? Like, you know what I'm saying? You seen it. I showed you how. You see what you have to fucking do?
Starting point is 00:48:56 You know how much we love that? Like, yo, girl, he got so fucking mad. He was in a club fighting for my honor. That's bait. Okay, so when I, this was-
Starting point is 00:49:03 Everybody's bait for you. Shut up. Fuck shut up i think it was like 99 and and i'm in the club swinging on somebody and like the whole legal community is like yo reg went off and she came home because they escorted me out and i had you know i just jumped in the castle and she came home you shouldn't have done that. But the quality of our relationship shifted. How so? Because she was like, you can go there. So maybe I feel safer around you.
Starting point is 00:49:32 So you cared to go there. Maybe I feel safe around you. You know what I'm saying? Like even, like my wife is bad. Like she's a bad chick. So when she's walking with me, she feels safe and comfortable. If cats are harassing her i'll lose my shit you know i'm saying well i always say i've said for many many many years now that i do believe that
Starting point is 00:49:52 women need to know that it can happen yes and i think you have that and that you take in you but i mean i guess it would be uh solely on the woman to not take advantage of that like i've I've had chicks in past relationships where a chick is like, yo, I might fuck your boy. And I'm like, I'm good. Well, see, that's when you go from safe to scared. Because now that man can really hurt you. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I'm not vested. And they want that security that you will go all out for them.
Starting point is 00:50:23 Yep. That psychology is really i mean but i completely understand i used to be that way with my mother my mom used to let me run the streets all hours of the night like mom do you care like what if i get fucking killed at four o'clock in the morning like we want to know even though i didn't want a curfew i didn't want to have to be home at 10 o'clock and then at night like danielle had fucking curfews all the time. That's why you used to sleep in your house. Yeah, but I didn't like that. I felt that it seemed like she didn't give a shit
Starting point is 00:50:49 what I was doing on the street. So it's the same thing with a man like... Streets of Fords. Right. Shout out to Fords. It's the same thing with a man. I want to know that you're concerned that I'm, you know,
Starting point is 00:51:03 going to be with you. Do you think there's another way to go about that rather than push his buttons? I'm not saying swing on every man. No, no, no. I'm not saying I want to push his buttons every day and I don't want him to swing on every man that looks my way.
Starting point is 00:51:14 Sometimes that's the most direct way. It is, but I don't think it's the safest. Show me some passion and that you're really invested. I guess my issue with that, and I said this to the young lady I was speaking with, is that for me, reciprocity is important so to me I know I don't want to see a crazy
Starting point is 00:51:31 button I don't want to see you act nuts I want a peace of mind I want serenity I want tranquility I don't want disruption we all want that as well what the fuck are you we don't want a fucking turned up 24 7 we are fighting to the death No, I agree that we all want that as well. That sounds really good. Wait, no, no, no, no, no. What the fuck are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:51:45 We don't want a fucking turned up 24-7. We are fighting to the death either. We just want to know or see once in a blue that there is a level that you will fight for me should that situation arise. Should something happen, I know that you are going to go that distance for me and I feel secure with you.
Starting point is 00:52:04 Let me ask y'all a question. What do you think about the shit that Victor Cruz's fiance did? I don't like it. You don't like it? I don't like it. I don't like it one bit, and again, I don't understand the psychology behind it. Right. Now, I'm sure that there was a method to her madness.
Starting point is 00:52:18 She added all these women in the group chat, sent this long soliloquy that basically said, hey, we're all fucking the same nigga, so let's get along. And fall back, bitches. Right. That's what it really was. I know y'all exist. We've had this conversation on here about that.
Starting point is 00:52:32 Okay, but let's be very clear. It was an ego. It was an ego. When bitches want other bitches to fall back, do they ever fall back? Of course not. No, they never fucking fall back. Now you just made it a competition for these bitches. Unless they get stepped to, though.
Starting point is 00:52:44 Unless they get stepped to, right? By the man? By the woman. No, by the woman. Oh. Now she just made it a competition. Unless they get stepped to, though. Unless they get stepped to, right? By the man? By the woman. No, by the woman. Oh. No, because now it's a competition. That wasn't stepped to. You sent me a text.
Starting point is 00:52:52 It was a warning shot. That was a passive-aggressive way. Oh, please. It wasn't a warning shot. Hell no. She's not going to really step to them. And now to those girls that probably already really knew. It doesn't matter what he was telling them.
Starting point is 00:53:03 Of course they know he's married. Yeah, they have two eyeballs. They see they use the internet. So now to them it's a competition. Like, now let me show this bitch. I still can one-up her. You think that contacting me got you something? Now watch this.
Starting point is 00:53:15 I'm going to still fuck your man tomorrow. You know what's really weird with women's ego? It only pertains to other women. Because a woman will run back to an ain't shit man at any moment no matter what he does to her but the moment another woman
Starting point is 00:53:29 mentions that he ain't shit she'll pop off it's on yeah which is the weirdest fucking thing ever why is that ego not consistent
Starting point is 00:53:37 I think that's like with everything though like you could talk shit about a family member all day the second someone else talks shit about you not even in that case I think that's actually
Starting point is 00:53:44 kind of dope. Because it kind of, I've been in situations where me and my wife are not good. And then somebody will disrespect me and she's
Starting point is 00:53:54 ready to go. Ready to go. Because that's ride or die. Which I think is within family too. Isn't that what ride or die? Yeah, that's true. That is true.
Starting point is 00:54:01 But where Victor Cruz's wife, and I wasn't there, should be posting her energy should be within her marriage with Victor Cruz. Not getting her ego back by saying, hey, bitches, I know about you. But I think sometimes women have to step out and be like, listen, I'm crazy. I'm crazy. I don't give fucks. I'm not a fan. I'm not a fan i'm not a
Starting point is 00:54:26 fan of women or people period right um getting messy on social media right right that's a whole that was in her text box pause it was uh it wasn't on social media right that's the fucking social media that's how we found out yeah but the other girls posted it that's a that's a flagrant pause man what did what did he just pause? Text box. Oh, come on. Rory. That wasn't a total pause. Let me get that text box, girl.
Starting point is 00:54:49 Why are we pausing text box? Oh, come on. Grow up, Rory. Anyway. Because he has a teal shirt on. I have a teal shirt on. It is teal. It's a lovely color.
Starting point is 00:54:58 It's like sky blue. I want that text box. I saw that whole Victor Cruz ordeal on the internet. Right. But that was the other girl. What do you think is going to happen when you text 200 bitches or however many women it was and you think one of them is not going to clown you and put it online? As he said before, though, like you're in the moment. This is right.
Starting point is 00:55:24 This is right. I'm not thinking. In hindsight, it ain't right.'re in the moment This is right This is right I'm not thinking I don't mean it's right In hindsight It ain't right But in the moment Shit In the moment it's right
Starting point is 00:55:30 This feels good In the moment it's right But let me ask you this This may sound real Fucking chauvinistic of me But Not you Joe
Starting point is 00:55:36 Not Joe Not on this show Not tampons on the list I did not write tampons On the list Oh we're still gonna get To a couple steps here Maybe someone had a reason
Starting point is 00:55:43 To put tampons on the list Listen Damn Now you guys made me forget Where I was going Hashtag button Wednesdays I did not write to your partner on that list. Oh, we're still going to get to a couple of steps here. Maybe someone had a reason to put Tim on the list. Listen, damn, now you guys made me forget where I was going just that fast. Hashtag button Wednesdays. Oh, now do you think that Victor Cruz's fiance knew about this infidelity the entire time? What's that I'll say? Maybe they have an open relationship. I don't know, but women do have that intuition also. If you deal with an athlete and a rapper, do you think that actor, anybody in that field?
Starting point is 00:56:11 You're kind of signing up for that shit. Yeah, that's what I feel like. I'm not saying you got to accept it, but you are signing up for it. But as we talked about with that too, though, there might be levels to that shit. Like, don't ever let me find out about it or it's fucking on. And maybe he fucked up so bad that it was like, it's fucking on. She didn't find out about it. She went on his fucking phone. We don't know how she found out about it or it's fucking on and maybe he fucked up so bad that it was like, it's fucking on. She didn't find out about it. She went on his fucking phone.
Starting point is 00:56:27 We don't know how she found out. Well, I'm just going to make shit up on his show. How about that? Okay. I want to bring up something you just brought up because I had a debate today.
Starting point is 00:56:34 Yeah. Women's intuition. Right. Does it exist? Yes. Thank you, Dan. Not mother's intuition. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:56:41 I'm saying women. No, no, no. I've seen, like I've, shit, I'm putting my shit all out. No, no, this is a good topic. Okay, so. I'm saying women. No, no, no. I've seen, like, I've, shit, I'm putting my shit all out. No, no, this is a good topic. Okay, so. I'm glad you brought it up because I had a debate today about it.
Starting point is 00:56:50 I met somebody once, like, just, like, one day, and I was like, oh, she's really cute. And then, like, two days later, she was at a party with me and my wife and, like, maybe 300 other people. And we're chilling. And then that girl walks by, and my wife is like maybe 300 other people and we're chilling. And then that girl walks by and my wife is like, who's, who is she? I was like, I,
Starting point is 00:57:09 I, I just met her. I don't know her, but you know what I'm saying? She, she picked up on that shit. There was like at least a hundred women in the room. She's like,
Starting point is 00:57:16 who's that? Now, does your wife not normally behave this way? She's not a sucker. You know what I'm saying? She, she's not, she's not riding me.
Starting point is 00:57:24 You know what I'm saying? She's not riding me. You know what I'm saying? She's not like, every day, she's not going through the phone, but she does, as she calls, I'll do a spot check, motherfucker.
Starting point is 00:57:31 I will do a spot check every now and then. Spot check is important, I guess. Yeah, but it just, and like I said, I wasn't scheming or anything,
Starting point is 00:57:39 but I was attracted to this woman, and she was like, there were mad, bad chicks In the room And she's like Who's that? Now wait a minute I don't know if that's intuition
Starting point is 00:57:48 As much as You guys have been together For 19 years Yes I'm dealing with women For example That I've been with For two years
Starting point is 00:57:55 Right And to me Intuition Even if I have a feeling Right Like hey Maybe You gotta trust your feelings bro
Starting point is 00:58:01 Maybe my significant other Is cheating Trust your feelings I hear that. But my immediate reaction is not going to say, let me go accuse her. It's going to say, hey, let me try to find some evidence and some logic and then approach her the correct way about it. Oh, that's logical. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:16 But you know. So women's intuition to me is they have any feeling that just pops up in their head and they react on it. That's not intuition. So in these instances where this person was reacting. pops up in their head, and they react on it. That's not intuition. That's fucking... So in these instances where this person was reacting... This isn't a specific... Was acting on intuition, were they accurate? I've had times where they were.
Starting point is 00:58:37 I've had times where they weren't. Okay, so it's... But I mean, that's just picking up on body language and behavior. I wouldn't say that's intuition. I believe that women's intuition exists. Yes. I don't believe that the majority of women know how to use it. That's what I think.
Starting point is 00:58:55 Right. That instance that you just spoke of, I do believe that that was intuitive. I couldn't explain that shit. I was like, yo. Well, yeah, it's one of those types of like yo Did I move a certain way You know what I'm saying What was the tell I've been in that circumstance before
Starting point is 00:59:12 Exactly with a woman That intuition exists How the fuck would she know How would she know that I just jerked off in front of this girl yesterday And she had no idea Disgusting. Shut the fuck up, Marissa.
Starting point is 00:59:26 It's not disgusting. It is. Listen, so we're off base here. We done with women? Well, no. We never done with women. We never done with women. I got to applaud my guy Michael Roars, man.
Starting point is 00:59:37 What did he do? Let me tell you. I got to applaud him. I had a gig in Long Island Friday night. You didn't tell me to come. You didn't tell me to come. I didn't want you to come. So we went out there. How often do you gig, man?
Starting point is 00:59:51 Do I gig? He's about to tour. Twice a week? Yeah. Twice a week. I start a tour in November. Nice. My New York date is November 9th.
Starting point is 01:00:02 How many cities? I was about to say. On the tour, we're doing 1920-something, somewhere around there. I'm sorry, man. Who's on the tour? Me. Just you? And me.
Starting point is 01:00:13 Anybody opening up? Yeah, we got some openers. Surf is opening on some dates. I got my guy Trevor Rich opening on some dates. And then local talent, depending on the city that we're in. Nice, nice. And Squarespace just did the tour website so I will put that
Starting point is 01:00:27 in the bio of this where they can click and buy tickets. We have a whole Squarespace did a whole just for the tour website. And you know who's going to be doing
Starting point is 01:00:34 Joey's beard? No, we're going to get to that. We're going to get to that. Marissa, let Rory control the sponsor segways please. Getbevel.com
Starting point is 01:00:43 Use promo code C-O-M-B-A-T. Yo, it's funny. I seamlessly integrated it last week. When we were talking about podcast beef, I was going to interject. We were having a very good conversation, so I didn't. I was like, you know what's the one thing between all this beef that we all get along with? Bevel. Tristan is being real slick right now.
Starting point is 01:01:04 Yo, they sent me I got my second case actually Today It's a fucking it's like an iPhone It's eye shade This shit is ill It's my dad's birthday he should get one But why did you get two of these
Starting point is 01:01:19 Come on man you're asking questions I gotta restock on my razors I gotta call Tristan And get some of these products. Is that the owner guy, Tristan? Yeah, Tristan Walker. Tristan Walker. He knows this guy in that loudspeaker network. He knows Tristan.
Starting point is 01:01:31 Yeah, right? All right, we'll get back to, we'll do the plug correctly in a minute. Or incorrectly. So in Long Island, it was me. Sorry. We went to dinner, me and some of my closest friends. Oh, yeah. I was fucking offended.
Starting point is 01:01:48 I saw that photo. Can I get through a story? I don't think so. Marissa Mendez. Thank you very much. It was all men. It was all men. I'm one of the guys.
Starting point is 01:01:57 You got a pussy. I do. So I hear. Hopefully. It works very well, too. Listen, couples therapy. I don't know. I can't be sure
Starting point is 01:02:05 you never know nowadays couples therapy 10 p.m. Wednesday that was a good episode yo my friends get a real kick out of me being on this show yo that face B
Starting point is 01:02:15 that fucking gif no but people were like I read some article they were like like Joe Buttons is so in tune and he's like the most forward-thinking rapper.
Starting point is 01:02:25 Where'd you read that? All I heard was this fucking liar. I read it somewhere. Yeah, no, I read that too. Oh, nice. Well, I'm glad. And I was like, you're like the advocate right now.
Starting point is 01:02:35 I was pretty accepting of transgender. Get the fuck out of here. Well, for me, it's very normal. I mean, I'm not... Well, Kaylin saved you. What about tampons? With the tampon. Yeah, come on with the tampon joke. It's not a joke. It happened. Yeah, I know, I know, it's very normal. I mean, I'm not. Well, Kaylin saved you. With the tampon. Yeah, come on with the tampon joke. It's not a joke.
Starting point is 01:02:48 It happened. Yeah, I know, I know, I know. That's Kaylin. Yeah, but for me, like, I'm not homophobic. I'm not transphobic. Before you knew you wanted to tap that. Well, you were just a little taken aback at the news. I got to clear that up, too.
Starting point is 01:03:01 Because I did see an interview that the young lady, Carmen, did where she was speaking about the same thing, saying how I'm an advocate, spokesperson for the transgender and accepting it all and she said, yeah,
Starting point is 01:03:12 and he wanted to tap it. Nup, nup, nup, nup, nup, nup, nup, nup. Let's slow it down. In that particular scene when I said, A, I wanted to tap you, I was referring to
Starting point is 01:03:22 wanting to tap Kalen to say, hey, are you hearing this? Not, I wanted to tap you. I was referring to wanting to tap Kalen to say, hey, are you hearing this? Not I wanted to tap. But some people did. I thought that's what you... No, I took that as I wanted to tap you. Do you realize what's going on? That's what I thought you meant.
Starting point is 01:03:37 Gee, thanks, Combat Jack. Hey, man, you know, you're forward thinking, dude. I'm not that forward thinking, Combat Jack. So up until now, you thought Joe wanted to fuck a tranny. That's what I'm saying. Hey, that's insane. No, no, no.
Starting point is 01:03:51 Look, he did not know either way. He didn't know. I thought he was attracted to her physique. Well, let me be clear. That nigga's fine. She. She. Well, she is fine.
Starting point is 01:04:03 Thank you. But let's be Let's be perfectly clear We said that last week If you don't know That this woman Used to be a man I don't know many men
Starting point is 01:04:13 That are gonna look and say That's an unattractive woman Cause that's not An unattractive woman Now She's an attractive woman Yeah that's what I'm saying Bottom line
Starting point is 01:04:20 Yeah yeah Now I'm not Inserting myself there And that's not what I was saying. There. I don't know how this conversation even got here. You're not getting inserted.
Starting point is 01:04:28 You just wanted to tap. You didn't want to. Yeah, yeah, exactly. No, Rory, I didn't want to tap. I've been trying to tell a Long Island Rory story for about 20 minutes here. I did not want to see what that mouth did. Now, this is when a pause should be happening.
Starting point is 01:04:44 Hey, Bevel. So, anyway, Long Island, you're hanging out with all these guys. There we go. Now this is when a pause should be happening Hey Beville So anyway Long Island You're hanging out with all these guys There we go Thank you for bringing it back here I had a Long Island iced tea before I got here You know what Let's just talk about your Long Island iced tea
Starting point is 01:04:53 It was at Iguana's Next time it was great So good Good for you So you're in this club And it's just men And you're performing No this was at dinner
Starting point is 01:04:59 Hey yo See he goes to dinner with all men This was dinner Wouldn't even invite vagina All men show Because Friday I was available Because Friday See, he goes to dinner with all men. This was dinner. Wouldn't even invite vagina. All men show. Because Friday. I was available. Because Friday was a release date for me, me and my closest male friends went to dinner
Starting point is 01:05:15 because as men, that's not something that we typically do. Women do that often where you get together, you go to dinner, you go have drinks. Men, we don't. We don't travel and take trips together. For whatever the reason be, we just don't do it. Boys club. So we got together and we to dinner. You go have drinks. Men, we don't. We don't travel and take trips together. For whatever the reason be, we just don't do it. Like boys club. So we got together and we had dinner. And then after that, we all went to my gig.
Starting point is 01:05:34 And it wasn't really the bestest of places and locations and DJs. Well, nothing wrong with Long Island. The venue was kind of- But the venue was a little suspect. The DJ was a little suspect. But we tried to- I was with all of my people the venue was a little suspect uh the dj was a little suspect but we tried i was with all of my people and it was a joyous occasion so we tried to have a great time now michael roars here all of a sudden i see three attractive young women walk right over to our table okay and they were with michael roars they were with Rory I mean Roars honestly has a bad bitch most of the time
Starting point is 01:06:07 Well these three were not with me They were friends of mine that I brought for my friends Except the time he brought that stripper person to the club She was very attractive and she was not a stripper She was a stripper Alright well she wasn't but go on Stripper-ish Stripper Jace
Starting point is 01:06:20 But these three women were very attractive Friends Air quotes friends And they were shapely attractive But these three women were very attractive Friends They were friends Friends, air quotes, friends And they were shapely, attractive, young women And then as the night progressed Some more friends of Rory's came Damn, Rory Damn, Rory
Starting point is 01:06:37 So I looked at Rory and I said Yo, man I think I'm gonna pass the torch down to you, bro I'm gonna pass it down I don't know if I want that torch Rory, you got the juice I think I'm going to pass the torch down to you, bro. I'm going to pass it down. I don't know if I want that torch. You got the juice now? I don't have the juice. I think you got the juice.
Starting point is 01:06:50 I don't have the juice. He's not allowed to say it. And I ain't talking about Tupac. Marty, don't. Marty, Marty. I'm a Nicki Minaj fan. No, no. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 01:06:59 Do you use gas station herbal supplements? Yo, those things are dangerous, man. I mean, no kidding. I didn't think those shits worked, but I mean... But I will tell you there is one thing that I do use. What's that, Rory? What won't I get?
Starting point is 01:07:16 I wanted to talk more about gas station supplements. I got a really bad migraine from fucking with one of those one time. Taking gas station... What the fuck is a gas station supplement? The shit that Lamar Odom OD'd on. I mean, I'm assuming like herbal
Starting point is 01:07:31 supplements. No, listen. Don't eat gas station sushi and don't fucking take gas station. See what he's doing to you. You came in here to sabotage us. Dressed as a friend.
Starting point is 01:07:46 What made you get all those bad bitches, Roars? Well, I'm currently using a new product called Bevel. Get out. Joe, do you know anything about this? Well, I just so happen to love Bevel. It's amazing. I love Bevel too. No.
Starting point is 01:08:00 We all love Bevel. And this, oh shit. Come on, Rory. with your bum ass phone. The one and only something for coarse curly hair. Bevel. The superior shaving system for people with coarse and curly hair. There we go. That's how it's supposed to go.
Starting point is 01:08:16 I was close. Clinically proven to reduce and prevent razor bumps, discoloration, and irritation. And there's a reason that nine out of 10 Bevel customers come back month after month. What happened to the 10th customer? What'd you say? What happened
Starting point is 01:08:29 to the 10th customer? Shut up, Maddie. Up to 80% of black men and women and Marissa struggle with razor bumps. What? How do you make
Starting point is 01:08:37 razor bumps? And up to 30% of all men and women encounter razor bumps as well. Multi-blade razors only cause more irritation to razor bumps
Starting point is 01:08:44 while hair removal creams are messy and can leave burns. This bevel razor uses a single blade which cuts hair above the skin, not beneath, so you can avoid painful and grown hairs. I know if you're like me, you hate painful and grown hairs. Now, say someone wants to buy this product and maybe wants a discount code. Well, it's funny that you mentioned that, Rory. All they would have to do is go to getbevel.com. Let me spell it out for you, ladies and gents. G-E-T-B-E-V-E-L.com and put in the promo code Joe.
Starting point is 01:09:19 Not combat. It's all the same. It's all the same shit. No, no. Promo code J-O-'s all the same shit. Nah, nah. Promo code J-O-E. Yeah, shout out to Bevel. I'm wondering why I didn't get my second package like Rory got. What are you saying?
Starting point is 01:09:33 Because I promote it on Twitter too. So? You do do a lot of promo on Twitter. That's smart. You do. Hey, Bevel, my dad wants one. You got to call Tristan. Yeah, tell Tristan to call me.
Starting point is 01:09:44 We don't even have Tristan's number. We got to go to the last network, man. No, I think Rory's is like friends with Tristan, right? I'm not friends with Tristan. Yeah, tell Tristan to call me. We don't even have Tristan's number. We got to go to the last one. No, I think Roards is like friends with Tristan. I'm not friends with Tristan. Are you? I've never met him. Well, you talked to him, right? No, I spoke to one of his representatives via email.
Starting point is 01:09:54 Damn, you ain't shit. Jack, who is your, do you have a football team? Yes. Who is your football team? I like the Giants. Oh, so you must have been heartbroken at that game. Yes. Monday, right?
Starting point is 01:10:04 The Giants don't typically do well on Monday night football. No, they don't. They don't really against the Eagles that much. They always have good games with the Eagles. They started out strong. Shout out to Michael Kors. That shit went downhill. Yeah, but the Eagles suck.
Starting point is 01:10:18 They certainly suck. They probably do. The Eagles suck. I mean, the Giants were riddled with injuries. Yes. Like all up and down the team. But I still felt like they should have won for some reason. Did Odell play?
Starting point is 01:10:29 I mean, they had the momentum in the beginning of the game. And then once that ball got intercepted, it was like. Odell played, but he was injured also. Yep, he's not playing at full capacity. Yeah, at all. I don't know what's going on with Victor Cruz. Reuben Randall was hurt as well. Flowers is still playing hurt.
Starting point is 01:10:47 Yep, yep, yep. Prince, I don't even think Prince played. No. He didn't. He didn't play. Yeah. I should have picked the fucking Eagles in that game. But anyway.
Starting point is 01:10:57 I mean, would you pick the Eagles? Well, what I do, I'm in a weekly pool, right? FanDuel? FanDuel! Well, no, not FanDuel. Oh, shit. Edit that out. No, I? FanDuel? FanDuel! Well, no, not FanDuel. Oh, shit. Edit that out. No, I play FanDuel too.
Starting point is 01:11:09 FanDuel is great. Me and my friends do a weekly pool where we kind of bet against the point spread. And I think the point spread was four in that game, if I'm not mistaken.
Starting point is 01:11:20 The Eagles were getting four. Yeah. That would make more sense. And I took the Giants. And it was horrible. But anyway, speaking of FanDuel, Devontae Freeman, his price is going up weekly. Yeah, I was thinking that.
Starting point is 01:11:33 I was definitely thinking that. He's been going crazy. I won a couple of dollars this weekend. I won't disclose my team because I don't need people to know my, you know what I mean, how I get down out there in these FanDuel streets.
Starting point is 01:11:48 But you should definitely check it out. If you want to play against me in fantasy football this week, you can join my league on FanDuel. It's really easy. You just head to
Starting point is 01:11:58 FanDuel.com slash button, B-U-D-D-E-N. You pick your player, stay under the salary cap, and sit back on Sunday and watch your team rack up points. That's Fandu.com, button to join my league.
Starting point is 01:12:09 Fandu is the leader in one-week fantasy football with more winners and more payouts than any other site. They're paying out over $75 million a week this football season. So, yeah. Don't they also add $200? Oh, yeah, they do add $200. Thank you, Combat. Yo, Combat is...
Starting point is 01:12:25 Here we go. Go to Fanduel.com slash button to join my private week two league. It's $5 to join in first place wins $200 cash. The top 40 teams all can win cash. So, yeah, go ahead and do that, man. Eli. Oh, Eli's another one. He let me down.
Starting point is 01:12:42 Me too. I was so sad. He let me down. It's a value. You can get Eli For a good price Price out there In those fan dual streets
Starting point is 01:12:48 Yeah yeah yeah Marissa shut the fuck up You shut the fuck up What Elmadi and Deontay Are drunk as shit By the way Drinking water

Damn. Oh, wait, you know what else I wanted to do? What? Congratulate you. We have not really said, you know, all of Lost is now officially in stores.
Starting point is 01:13:12 We haven't done a podcast. Congratulations. We've been in stores. Congratulations. And that's pretty big. I love the artwork, man. Who did this, man? Who did this artwork? Well, I actually reached out to an artist Who did the Wale Ambition cover
Starting point is 01:13:25 And the 9th Wonder Album cover She goes by the name Of P.S. I'm Dope And she hand drew That entire thing I've seen her We spent countless hours
Starting point is 01:13:33 Getting that shit together Went through a thousand Different prints Shout out to her She did a wonderful Wonderful wonderful job This is a precious cover man Yeah man
Starting point is 01:13:41 We set out to It really is art We set out to make it An actual piece of art And I think we Achieved that Yeah shout out to his art we set out to make it an actual piece of art and and i think we we achieved that yeah shout out to her man she's dope um if you didn't see the the where do we go clip that's online you can check that out as well where um that's actually her doing the mural on the side of that trend that trend backdrop so so joe man how does this podcasting fit into the rest of your career?
Starting point is 01:14:05 Like, is this has this become like an integral part of your career right now? Are you wed to this thing? I am. I am. Which is funny. It didn't it didn't start that way. I just I knew I wanted a platform to be able to speak about various things. Right.
Starting point is 01:14:22 Because you need a platform. Yeah. You need a platform. you need a platform yeah i was very naive i was very naive to to audiences right uh of podcasts i really didn't fully understand what a podcast was what it meant uh but once i got engulfed i love it man and and the thing about you is your fans your followers are really devoted to you. Yeah. Very much. And I don't think there's a better mechanism that allows you to tap into them as intimately as the podcast does, man.
Starting point is 01:14:54 Yeah. So I think this is, like I said, when I heard you were doing the podcasting, I was like, this? Because podcasting isn't for everyone, but for you, I was like, yo, that shit is dope. It's difficult to get someone to listen to you for an entire hour. It takes some talent. I still can't believe people listen to our shit. Because to me, it's like we're just talking, but I mean, it's resonating, man. And people need content that really speaks to them.
Starting point is 01:15:18 What I think you do really well at interviewing is you let the person speak. That's not what my audience, my audience is like, stop fucking interrupting. Well, no, because you're giving conversational points, not interview questions more or less.
Starting point is 01:15:32 But I see a lot of interview people, especially in radio and online, that just want to hear themselves fucking talk to a rapper and nothing gets done
Starting point is 01:15:41 out of it. It's literally just listening to them hear themselves talk. Yeah, that would be horrible. I wouldn't want to hear that at all. What do you think of it. It's literally just listening to them hear themselves talk. Yeah, that would be horrible. I wouldn't want to hear that at all. What do you think of Rap Radar's podcast? It's good.
Starting point is 01:15:51 Oh, yeah, he hates them. No, no, no. That was the most casual it's good I've ever heard. No, no, no. I think, you know, I mean, Elliot has been really working to find a vehicle to really perpetuate his brand. So I think this is... Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack. No, no, let me talk.
Starting point is 01:16:11 That's a lawyer talk, Matthew. Everyone takes their tap dancing shoes off at the door. I think it's good. My only concern overall is... So you guys joke about us being corporate but CBS is really corporate so that's really my concern what that corporate you know
Starting point is 01:16:32 presence in this really fragile and small ecosystem is going to do that's valid that's a valid concern but I mean I don't know how involved CBS is I know I went up there to do their podcast but I didn't even really ask about is I know I went up there To do their podcast But I didn't
Starting point is 01:16:46 I didn't even really ask about it I just told them I like the way that you And all your fucking guests look When y'all take the goofy picture By the CBS It looks really powerful I like what you're doing out there
Starting point is 01:16:54 We could take a cool fucking picture In front of that gumball machine Nah Probably not The gumball machine Yeah fill it up With some gumballs Well we don't have guests
Starting point is 01:17:02 They The Rap Radar They have a guest Like every fucking week. Combat Jack kicked it off. We about to be lit every week from now on. No, no. We aren't punk ass.
Starting point is 01:17:11 Yeah, we don't need it. Let me tell you, don't get dependent on guests. We never have. We've never had. Don't do that because I'm telling you from experience, we used to not have guests and we had a following and then the shit blew up when we had guests. And it's like, sometimes you don when we had guests and it's like,
Starting point is 01:17:26 sometimes you don't get guests and it's like, that shit is nerve wracking on top of having to deliver a show. No, we don't. We've, how many guests
Starting point is 01:17:35 have we had on the show? we've literally never really had guests. We've had a couple of like, girls that have like, a good internet following but it's never really been an interview.
Starting point is 01:17:40 It's been like, your friends. The few times we have guests, our fans hate them. They say, just go back to 3-0. We had like, Steph and Yesules. Oh people like Steph. Yesjules was mixed. We had uh You called Royce the 5'9". I don't know if that really counts. It wasn't I guess. We called Ty Dolla Sign I like Ty Dolla Sign. Me too. Do you really like him? I'm excited about his album. Don't get her started. Fuck you Daniel.
Starting point is 01:18:02 She follows him all over the country. Yeah seriously. No, I literally am like his biggest fan. Nah he's She follows him all over the country Yeah seriously No I literally I'm like his biggest fan No he's dope man He's dope He's very underrated About a year and a half Somebody's rating him
Starting point is 01:18:11 Somebody's giving him props Calm down Stanley About a year and a half ago His label was like Can you do us a favor And have him on the show And I was like alright And he came on
Starting point is 01:18:21 I really didn't know about Paranoid and the whole nine And I think we had him on for like 15, 20 minutes and then after that his shit took off took off and it's just like
Starting point is 01:18:30 I love at least encountering somebody when they're starting this shit and then seeing the whole progression of their career so I'm really impressed with that kid man he's a great song maker
Starting point is 01:18:39 yup and he plays all these instruments he's a dope mighty mighty and he comes from a family A family His father was in Lakeside
Starting point is 01:18:47 Yep I'm excited for his project November 13th Free TC in stores I want to hear that Brandy James Fonseroy In Tide Island That's the first record
Starting point is 01:18:55 On the track list His song with E-40 He just put out Was kind of good too It's kind of like I mean it's not that But it's like another radio hit And where are all his birthmarks?
Starting point is 01:19:04 Tell us about it since you're just going to give us random Ty Dolla Sign facts oh yeah his family has a house out in Lakewood by his dick I said his father
Starting point is 01:19:12 was a musician in Lakeside alright and his brother Joe what are you listening to right now man
Starting point is 01:19:19 Ty Dolla Sign you ever heard Bofa yeah what Ball of Lust in stores now. You ever heard of Bofa? Yeah. What time? I'm curious you to finish that joke. Are you Bofa-deez? That's where I was going.
Starting point is 01:19:37 Some motherfucker caught me out there about eight months ago with the Bofa. Yeah. And I was like, never again. What am I listening to? Yeah. Someone got me with tip. I've been listening to a lot of like alternative style music.
Starting point is 01:19:50 Like, they're reeling me in with this Calvin Harris, Diplo. Diplo. I've been in that, in that zone. It's a good space to be in, man.
Starting point is 01:20:01 Yeah, and I'm, I'm getting familiar with a lot of the artists that make those records because there's so many records that you're familiar with because you're out in the club, but you have no idea who makes these songs. So I've been doing a lot of that recently.
Starting point is 01:20:13 Normally, I'm a R&B, rock and roll guy. I'll sprinkle some hip hop in here and there. Where is rock and roll right now in 2015? Oh, no, not current rock and roll. Old? Like who? Yeah, old old. Like who? ACDC.
Starting point is 01:20:24 ACDC. So you like loud. Some Metallica. Okay. Creed. Bon Jo no. Not current rock and roll. Old? Like who? Yeah, old old. Like who? ACDC. ACDC. So you like loud. Some Metallica. Okay. Creed. Bon Jovi. Okay. I like Creed.
Starting point is 01:20:29 Creed? I like Creed. I mean, I don't know if you're making a joke. Couples therapy every Wednesday, Tempe. I don't know if you're making a couples therapy joke. I love Creed. I do like Creed. I really do, too.
Starting point is 01:20:36 Oh, okay. But couples therapy every Wednesday. Amazing voice that leads to, yeah. Meatloaf? Oh, man. Anyways. I like Meatloaf. I'm more Led Zeppelin
Starting point is 01:20:45 Pink Floyd Pink Floyd is my favorite Pink Floyd is amazing Band of all time Rightfully so Yeah Pink Floyd's amazing We know some Beatles
Starting point is 01:20:54 All the old shit Yeah all the old shit I don't know where Current rock and roll is today Does it exist? I don't really think it does I mean I think rock and roll is I mean does it?
Starting point is 01:21:02 Really? I think it's kind of an absorbent Would a Maroon 5 be Considered rock and roll now? No no no does it really? I think it's kind of an absorbent to pop. Would a Maroon 5 be considered rock and roll? No, no, no. I'm trying to pinpoint what it would be considered. There's nothing rock star about them as much as pop star. Does Kid Rock do it?
Starting point is 01:21:12 Like, is he? No. Rockabilly. Yeah. Hip hop trader kind of like. Yeah, I don't know if there's really rock and roll. Is Kid Rock active currently? Yeah, he just did Along the Machine with Gun Kelly.
Starting point is 01:21:23 Yeah. Yeah, that's not rock and roll. Hey, I don't know. I don't think that's rock and roll. Dan, you raised a good question. Now I'm going to go see if I can find some rock and roll artists. I think rock is officially, I mean, from what I understand, it's officially dead. That's great.
Starting point is 01:21:35 I never fucking thought of that. Yeah. Wow. Rock and roll can't be dead. I mean, it's a little dead of days. It's become a niche genre in a sense. Somebody out there Is doing that shit
Starting point is 01:21:46 Somebody I mean like a lot of genres It fused in the pop We don't I mean you used to know You knew when Metallica We could have called out
Starting point is 01:21:53 Like someone Was dropping some shit Even if you didn't listen to Metallica Was Korn rock Korn was Heavy metal Nirvana Okay
Starting point is 01:21:59 Nirvana was Probably the last biggest Amazing shit I'm gonna do some research on that That's interesting That you say that Because rock and roll Was always that genre
Starting point is 01:22:09 That just could never die Because all of their legendary acts You know They could always just tour But it got subsumed Which they can still do But it got I think you know
Starting point is 01:22:18 It got subsumed You gotta breathe new Under the weight of hip hop But that's scary Is that what's gonna happen To hip hop though Because Of course Because that's what You know rock and roll Was what's gonna happen to hip-hop though? Of course.
Starting point is 01:22:25 Because that's what, you know, rock and roll was what our parents used to get in trouble for by their parents. That was the shit they don't want them listening to. Of course it's gonna happen to hip-hop. Of course. You already see hip-hop morphing and changing. With the melodic.
Starting point is 01:22:36 And so my kids at 18 and 19 don't understand pre-Kanye shit. They don't understand the clapay no well they under they respect jay they respect nas but they don't understand all that gun clap shit they don't understand that biggie kicking the door or tupac they don't understand that shit because that's not their reality right now i was getting clapped like that yeah amongst their peers you know i mean so it's like they they're into the fucking Travis Scott and all that other shit.
Starting point is 01:23:06 The melodic shit. The melodic shit. Yeah, but you know what, Alana, and I love Travis Scott's album as well. And she opened up that window. Yeah, that's fire. You know, it is dope.
Starting point is 01:23:16 Lit. But it's not hip hop to me. I mean, it's not. It's where it's at. But it is hip hop. Explain it to me. I mean, that's like saying Afrika Bambaataa's Soul Sonic Force wasn't hip hop. Explain it to me. I mean, that's like saying Afrika Bambaataa's
Starting point is 01:23:26 Soul Sonic Force wasn't hip hop. How's that? That's a false equivalent. Explain it to me. It was melodic. They were singing. They weren't spitting rhymes. It was all melodic.
Starting point is 01:23:38 And this shit was electro as shit. It was electro. It was the most non-hip hop hip hop record of all time. That shit is Kraftwerk. That shit is Electronica. That's EDM, pre-EDM. Okay, I think this is,
Starting point is 01:23:59 I think, I agree. What year did that record come out? That record came, I want to say, 82. During the formative years. And even then, it was like, that shit is not rap, but that shit is rap. But you're leading to my point. Yes. In the formative years, I think you would be able to make that record.
Starting point is 01:24:19 I don't think we really had an identity in hip-hop and rap. But every generation brings in their identity But every generation brings in their identity. Every generation brings in their identity. Like, that first wave was motherfuckers from the 70s with fucking warrior jackets. Yes. And then that shit morphed into motherfuckers trying to look like Parliament.
Starting point is 01:24:38 And then it morphed into Run DMC. And then it morphed into everything. N.W.A. N.W.A. Like, in 82, you wouldn't say NWA was hip hop because that shit was so counterculture in terms of like the annihilation of your fellow man. And like you couldn't predict that we would go that far.
Starting point is 01:24:59 You understand what I'm saying? Or native tongues. Okay. You know what I mean? So as the, like, you know, Soulja Boy, I used to be the old man saying Soulja Boy is not hip hop until I saw my kids dancing to that shit. And I was like, oh, that's hip hop for them.
Starting point is 01:25:17 And that really shifted my change, my stance in terms of how I accepted new hip hop. It's not rap. But they, I mean, it is rap. No, it's not. It is rap. That's a good thing. No, you can say it's not rap, but it's hip-hop.
Starting point is 01:25:33 Yeah, and I think, all right, I misspoke earlier. Right. Okay, so it's hip-hop, but it's not rap. It's not rap music, but it is hip-hop. And hip-hop, you can have that fusion of genres and sounds. And you don't have to, like, it's just different. It's different. So now, what happens when, like you said, it's evolving?
Starting point is 01:25:56 That is what everyone is doing currently. Evolving, devolving, whatever. Yeah, whatever word you want to use. But what happens when the majority, when that's all it is? So maybe rap music dies. Then it goes to something else. I mean, everything. So then there would be no rap music.
Starting point is 01:26:12 Everything dies. No. Everything changes. And then it gets a rebirth. Everything dies. Everything changes, dude. Jesus, that's depressing, Jack. I know.
Starting point is 01:26:20 Everything dies. Jesus. All right, well, you got to think. Everything dies. Jesus. All right. Well, you got to think. Everything dies. You got to think like early to mid 2000s, it was the snap era. You still had your little brothers and your slum village, but it was snap music that was on the radio. That was the popular billboard stuff.
Starting point is 01:26:37 Yeah. D4L. It then went back to having people like a J. Cole or a Kendrick or I'm even going to put Drake in there. Lyrical rappers being the forefront. It left and came back. It could very well do that again. But then again, you got to remember, like you got to understand, I remember when there was no rap.
Starting point is 01:26:54 So rap for us was James Brown. Damn you old sons. Yeah, I am old. Parliament Funkadelic. I'm disco. And that shit was hot. You can tell me that shit was butter. And in hip hop, it was just a natural progression. You know what I'm disco And that shit was hot You can tell me That shit was butter And then hip hop
Starting point is 01:27:06 It was just a natural Progression You know what I'm saying One day there was no hip hop And the next day Everything was hip hop Hip hop Hip hop
Starting point is 01:27:15 I don't know man I'm not willing to say That Travis Scott Is a rap album I really like the album But he's rapping on there too though I mean he does rap on Yeah
Starting point is 01:27:23 He's rapping on there I mean he's got Him and Not really on the antidote I've got Trey Song though. But he's rapping on there too though. I mean, he does rap on, yeah. He's rapping on there. I mean, he's got, he's him and Kanye. Not really on the antidote, but I've got Trey Songz albums where he's rapping. Him and Kanye are throwing bars back and forth. I got Chris Brown's album
Starting point is 01:27:32 where he's rapping on there. It's funny that I'm back here to have that conversation. You mean Briss Brown. What? Yeah, Briss Brown. Briss Brown. Now he's blood now.
Starting point is 01:27:39 This is getting right. I was going to reply to you on Twitter because you, I think, retweeted me by accident. I I had said I'm watching Dave Chappelle block party damn I really miss hip hop and I think it was you that replied said but it's still alive and I then thought about it and I was like
Starting point is 01:27:54 alright I misspoke because I don't think hip hop is dead but that was around the time when I was 13, 14 and I was really coming into myself and the music that I loved so I just gravitate. It's an era. And my nostalgia's like,
Starting point is 01:28:07 holy shit, I remember Mosquali, early Kanye. That's what I loved. Right. So I misspoke when I said that. I was like, nah,
Starting point is 01:28:17 because I don't think hip hop is dead. And as the old man in the room, I got to be vigilant against that because I see a lot of my peers from my generation. Ah, this shit is whack. Everyone's going to feel that way, though. Not everyone. I went through a phase like that.
Starting point is 01:28:34 Years, years, years ago. I want to say around that Who Killed Hip Hop 06, 07, 08, where I was the old angry guy and everything changing around me. The Nas album. I'm not there today. Today, I changing around me. The Nas album. I'm not there today. Today I can appreciate things for what they are. I enjoy Fetty Womp. I enjoy the Travis Scott album. All these things that maybe would have never flew in the 90s
Starting point is 01:28:57 and the era that I fell in love with this shit during. But today I can appreciate it. So my father-in-lawlaw who's passed away, he passed away about six years ago, was an accomplished songwriter. He had hits in the 50s and the 60s. He won a Grammy for writing and
Starting point is 01:29:16 producing with Luther Vandross, Love Power. He comes from an older era, but whenever I would drive with him in the 90s, he would keep his radio locked to Hot 97. This is the guy that used to mend when you and your wife would fight? Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:33 And I would be like, I think I remember one Christmas I gave him a Nat King Cole album, and he was like, what the fuck are you doing? I lived that era. You're trying to get me old and he wasn't trying to be young he was just his mind was stimulated by how music was changing and he stayed like we would have conversations about ether and takeover and you know i'm saying and this is he's probably in the 60s 70s at the time but he was like constantly, and he kind of taught me like, yo, don't ever think you're too good for new shit. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:11 I mean, don't jump in it. Don't, you know, dress like these young cats, but don't ever think your era was better than the era. I mean, and there are pros and cons. There's arguments about that shit, but don't ever think that today's music, whenever today is, is completely trash. Because that's when the aging process really kicks in.
Starting point is 01:30:31 Because you're not really living to move forward. You're living to live in the past. Where do you stand on Takeover, either, by the way? So, to me, Jay-Z is GOAT. But he got Ethanhan he did and that's why that's still a term to this day okay i mean and there's so many different levels like takeover was the nail in the coffin for nas because it was all factual it was like he bod bodied. Nas was in the fucking coffin. We were like, yo, son died. And son fucking came out of the grave. I think that's why people choose either.
Starting point is 01:31:12 Yeah. It was unexpected. Unexpected. And it was mom, safter. And it was sloppy, too. It was like takeover was fucking perfection. It was like darts. Like fucking precision aimed darts. Like, fucking precision-aimed darts.
Starting point is 01:31:26 Takeover was amazing. How far between were the two? About three, four, five months. Because I remember where I was when I first heard Ether. I don't remember Takeover. Ether. I don't remember where I was when I first heard Takeover. Ether was like a drunk man sloppily bussing a master's ass.
Starting point is 01:31:42 You know what I mean? It was just sloppy and just raw and it was just like, oh, he's connecting. Woke up the sleeping giant. And it changed. It really affected Jay-Z for the rest of his career.
Starting point is 01:31:54 Yeah. And we got one of the better Nas albums. So we can thank Jay for that. Thanks, Jay. And I enjoyed the Jay-Nas collabs. Black Republican. I like success a lot
Starting point is 01:32:05 Black Republican I'm like That was exciting Oh no I remember When it came out It was like Got hip hop
Starting point is 01:32:12 That was the first record Everyone went to It might have been Better in my head Than it actually was But it was an event Oh yeah It took three minutes
Starting point is 01:32:18 For them to start rapping The fanfare of it For some of you Younger listeners There was a point in time Where J-Naz Being on the same record was just a hip-hop dream. I was at that concert, B. Oh, yeah?
Starting point is 01:32:31 Yeah, that shit was crazy. Electric, I'm sure. That shit was crazy. I would have been confused. Yeah, today, oh, man, let me not get on my fucking old man shit again. Back in the day, man. Just to close this topic, what is scarier? This past generation of hip hop
Starting point is 01:32:49 where it was the drug dealer, mafioso, carry guns, bottles, jewelry, or this generation where you are now encouraged to become the addict? What is more terrifying and more detrimental,
Starting point is 01:33:04 do you think, to a society? Because both, both i think reflected the actual time i i don't think you can say i mean it's all youth music and and and there's always that underside to youth music and whatever generation like rock and roll was lsd and and heroin you know what i mean so it's just a wave i mean you know we talked about coke like like in the 80s cocaine was hot you understand what i'm saying like cocaine was hot so i don't think you can say what i mean i think for the most part shit is so much more sterile and safer now than it's ever been. No? You don't know what your molly be cut with sometimes.
Starting point is 01:33:48 That's true, but motherfuckers were getting shot everywhere. Compared to back in the day. You were encouraged to carry those things. Yeah, lawsuits and stop situations like that. We were designing clothes with stash pockets for your heater.
Starting point is 01:34:04 My problem today is that every time somebody drops dead from an alleged overdose, they never tell us exactly what this person died from. So now the mixtures of certain drugs is detrimental and fatal. So, I mean, PEMP-C, we still don't know what happened. Right, right, right. C, we still don't know what happened. Right, right, right. AM, we still don't know what happened. Like, Yams, we still don't know what happened. So, I mean, there's people out there and we encourage them. But then our generation, Jam Master Jay, you still don't know what happened.
Starting point is 01:34:38 Right. Biggie, you still don't know what happened. Tupac, I mean, it was a whole different, but it was. Yeah, we're coming up on Jam Master Jay, too. Yeah. But my thing with that is if you were encouraged by a rap record which I don't really think
Starting point is 01:34:49 people are you're obviously a product of your environment if you're going outside and hearing someone talking about shooting people and selling drugs you can walk out
Starting point is 01:34:56 to your block and realize I'm not built for this you could walk to a party today and easily pop three fucking mollies no problem
Starting point is 01:35:04 and drink some lean I think people went to their block and realized they were not cut out for that. More than people that did. But I think anyone can go out and do these drugs and do all these things that Future is saying in Dirty Sprite 2. But not necessarily. Some people realize
Starting point is 01:35:18 they're scared of that shit too. Not everyone can live a Mobb Deep Infamous album. It depends how the kids were raised though. Because I wouldn't touch a drug with a 10 foot pole. And once again, we're talking about how these kids are rooted.
Starting point is 01:35:31 Is it family? Because if these kids are rooted, then anything is an influence to them. Right. But that's always been the case. I know that you bring up that infamous album. That made me want to go
Starting point is 01:35:43 stand on the corner and sell drugs. And I attempted to do that And that is when I realized That dealing drugs wasn't for me Stab your brain with your nose bone So I'm saying now Oh my god
Starting point is 01:35:55 You went out and realized I can't live that infamous album You know how easy it is to go out And live a future album And how bad that can end up for you Yeah and you can get wiped out And be like I'm not fucking with that shit ever again. I mean, life is trial and error.
Starting point is 01:36:07 Where do you rank that infamous album? Top 30 album of all time? It's my favorite album of all time. I know a few people it's in their top five. Man, you know. I had this conversation with Crooked Eye. It had to be top 30, top 30. It was a seminal album.
Starting point is 01:36:20 And I rate albums not necessarily on how great they are, but how many times I played them. And I could albums Not necessarily on how great they are But how many times I played them And I could not stop playing When that shit dropped I could not stop playing that shit man I have this talk with Crook and I Who's in my group all the time About the Infamous album
Starting point is 01:36:37 And he always says That we wasn't fucking with that on the west coast Like that wasn't The way it hit y'all It didn't hit us So I personally We wasn't fucking with that on the West Coast. Really? That wasn't the way it hit y'all. Right. It didn't hit us. So I personally, him, can't put it as a top 20 album. And I'm like, what the fuck?
Starting point is 01:36:51 What a great example. Did he have an example? Crazy how much regional differences play a part. Did he have an example of an East Coast album that did hit them like that? He may have, but I don't want to misquote him. I don't want to misquote him because I can't remember right now. Well, The Infamous is my favorite hip hop album of all time. Really?
Starting point is 01:37:05 Ever. Do y'all rank N.W.A. in yours? I can still listen to that shit every day. Would want to misquote him Because I can't remember Well The Infamous is my favorite Hip hop album of all time Really? Ever Do y'all rank N.W.A. in yours? Would you rank N.W.A. Like straight out of Compton in yours? I can't I wasn't born I think Niggas for Life is far superior
Starting point is 01:37:14 Than straight out of Compton I know a few people That believe that too I mean no Sonically Like they had to step up Did it have such a huge impact Over here as it was over there?
Starting point is 01:37:24 Yes Yeah I mean West Coast had I mean once the ascension Of you know Chronic and N.W.A. And Snoop Like we were following them
Starting point is 01:37:34 For a while Until Big kind of shifted The trend Yeah them nons came Big followed Yeah Man I wish I was around For that shit man
Starting point is 01:37:43 But that was a great Then you'd be old like me right now I don't know and you wouldn't be doing Zanny's on the weekend I don't do Zanny's getting that dick
Starting point is 01:37:53 I get that but I don't do Zanny's on the weekend she would have got it back then too I couldn't say Straight Outta Compton is a top five album
Starting point is 01:38:01 no I mean it was a it was a ground breaking album but it's just crazy the regional differences Straight Outta Compton is a top five album for me. No. I mean, it was a groundbreaking album, but... It's just crazy the regional differences. Straight Outta Compton is not better than America's Most Wanted to me. No, not at all. Not at all.
Starting point is 01:38:12 I mean, we can do this all day. It just shifted. It was like, oh, shit. They're talking about Gats and they're cool and they have Jerry Curls. Yeah, they changed. Yeah, yeah. It was impactful and changed, you know, like Thomas said. And it changed the language because I... G gats, no one ever said gats.
Starting point is 01:38:27 Yeah. Really? Damn, man. No one ever said gats in New York. No one. We didn't know what the fuck a gat was. We don't get that anymore. So we had to sit and study their language and then we started like chronic?
Starting point is 01:38:40 What the fuck is chronic? That's crazy. You're smoking weed, you're smoking herb. Yeah. Damn. we don't get that anymore we know all of that shit already because we have the internet we have like we'll never get that experience of what is this like fleek now for y'all right yeah what else you got isn't like future still like like isn't he chain no he's not showing us nothing we didn't know though like we've heard of lean he's glor glorifying it more, making it more cool.
Starting point is 01:39:06 Purple activists. But we're not Googling it. We're not trying to figure out what this is. We know what you're talking about. You're just, yeah, we couldn't have Googled it then either. You know who changed shit? Migos changed a lot of shit. Like, what the fuck was a bando?
Starting point is 01:39:20 That's true. You know what I'm saying? I did ask what a bando was. I was like, yo, one day I was like, let me use my Googles and see what a bando that's true you know i'm saying we were i did i did ask what a bando i was like yo one day i was like let me use my googles and see what a bando oh that's what a bando is gave us googles yeah yes so i mean it still happens it does and and i think i think it's a smaller scale though but that is because we're less because because we're so we get so much information now i have to ask you just because of ke Keith Murray and Fredro's story. You had him on the show.
Starting point is 01:39:48 Yes. What were your thoughts of that battle? He killed, Keith Murray bodied himself. Bodied himself. Fredro came prepared and Keith bodied himself. I mean, he admits it himself. Oh, does he? Yeah, he's like, yeah, I took my medication and it threw me off.
Starting point is 01:40:08 Yeah, it was interesting for me to see Keith Murray on the BET Cypher. Right. Seemed just fine. He seemed perfectly fine. Lyrical beast. He seemed like the Keith Murray that I've always known. But then again, maybe he underestimated the whole. Pedro.
Starting point is 01:40:23 Pedro or just was very comfortable in his lyrical prowess. Because, you know, no one thought Fredro could possibly win. Because Fredro was never known to be a lyricist like on a level of a Keith Murray. Yeah, no. Two completely different ballparks. But he won. He won, yeah. I'd like to see them try that with Keith in his right mind. Yeah. Yeah, no, two completely different ballparks. Yeah. But he won. He won, yeah. I'd like to see them try that with Keith in his right mind.
Starting point is 01:40:49 Yeah, or Redman or... No, no, no, no. Redman would clean everybody up. Certain people you just leave alone. But I'm saying, but that's the crew, though. It's Eric Sermon, Redman, and Keith. I'm aware, but niggas know to leave Redman alone. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:01 Do they? In 2015, do they still know to leave Redman alone? See, I'm always confused when people ask these questions. Anyone knowledgeable knows. Anyone knowledgeable. There's a lot of people that, you know.
Starting point is 01:41:12 But then, but before this happened, you would probably say everyone knows to leave Keith Murray alone. Right? Yes? No.
Starting point is 01:41:22 To a lower degree. Right. To a lower degree, to a lower degree but yes yeah you would think that yeah we think that yeah but we know that keith you know sometimes you catch a little on his yeah he said red man i mean spit high i've all i've heard in my lifetime one time that red man has got cleaned up and and that was when Cannabis was cleaning everyone up on Beast from the East, when Cannabis had that 70 bars at the end.
Starting point is 01:41:50 And still, Redman's verse was amazing, but Red is one of them niggas that, you know, Red is Em's favorite rapper ever. He's one of those guys. So his pen is just unmatched. It was good to see that he could still go that way when I watched the awards. Which New Cats do you appreciate their pen game? New, new, new, new Cats.
Starting point is 01:42:13 New, new, new, new, new, new, new. Yeah. New as in like freshman new? Like this generation. Oh, okay. Cole Kendrick. Cole Kendrick. in like freshman new like this generation like oh like kent kent like cole cole kendrick cole kendrick when drake is rapping uh i fuck with him um i like sean's pen uh big sean i like wale's pen is crazy right yeah i like i like uh wale big Sean um as far as just their pen pen Yeah, who else is who else is there for sure, but we haven't seen push in a while
Starting point is 01:42:50 But pushes pushes and again, oh see I don't I don't put push in this new class. Okay of yeah He's because he was around these keys clips. He's trying to Grind and I don't put him with this new car. Um Who else is new out here? Kanye. I don't put him there. He's too old for this group. I'd say post-O.C.
Starting point is 01:43:11 I don't put him there. Logic. Logic. Logic. Logic is great. Logic is another good one. Logic is great. Logic is another good one.
Starting point is 01:43:21 Who, I mean. MGK. I don't think people think of Penn when they think of MGK. He's an amazing lyricist. I did not say that he wasn't. Great energy and great music. I think people more so look to MGK for his energy. I don't think
Starting point is 01:43:36 you automatically go right to, wow, what a Penn. And I haven't really sat to absorb his energy. But I will say, am I going to a Logic show or MGK show? I'm going to an MGK show because I know it's going to be crazy. Yes. Well, nothing to take away
Starting point is 01:43:48 from Logic's performance, but he's definitely more of a lyrical pen rapper than MGK is. You know who keeps surprising me with their consistency, man, and he shouldn't? It's Wiz, man.
Starting point is 01:43:59 Yo, Wiz was fucking wrong. You gotta give Wiz a consistency card. Did you hear, you've heard the King of Everything? Yeah. Shit is dope Like he always pulls
Starting point is 01:44:06 A dope record Out of nowhere Yeah and I think That's what he's to be Applauded for I was just saying this Recently that Wiz will always have one
Starting point is 01:44:16 Always Always Never fails He's a good He's a good hit maker And you don't even remember Until you go to the show And he's just dope
Starting point is 01:44:23 And you're singing To every fucking song You're like oh shit that's my song too This nigga been doing a lot since Black and Yellow Dude for real Since before Or Cushion Orange Juice You know who's the king of going to a show
Starting point is 01:44:39 And you go holy fuck Fab You don't realize how many hits Fab has had. Not for me. I'm very real. It's just very a reminder when you go to his show how many hits and how long this guy has been in this rap game. I had that moment with Fat Joe. Fat Joe has.
Starting point is 01:44:55 Like in 07, 08. Damn. If Fat Joe was to just, if you just go down his whole list, which I was able to see him do live. It was like, God damn it. This guy, he's doing everything but Flo-Jo up this motherfucker. That's how I felt about Wayne. I mean, Wayne. Yeah, but that's a gimmick. That's not a sneaky discography at all.
Starting point is 01:45:16 But that is one of those. See, I'm from that generation where when I was kind of hating rap, I never got to appreciate Wayne. Really? I never got to appreciate Wayne. And? I never got to appreciate Wayne. And then when people started making comparisons to like Wayne and Jay, I was like, I'm turning out. Now I'm really done.
Starting point is 01:45:31 Definitely not even trying. I actually am paying attention to Wayne now, post all of this. But see, I think now you're getting the worst, not the worst, but not the best form of Wayne. No, I'm not getting the best form, but I'm listening to him right now because I kind of like he's not on top of his game like he used to be. He's not. But I kind of like his energy now that he's gotten so disrespected. Because he's hungry now. By Young Thug and the whole.
Starting point is 01:45:57 And I always kind of want to root for the underdogs. So this remake that he has right now of Busta, it's interesting. Did you listen to the Free Wheezy album? No, I didn't listen to the whole thing. That was a good project. I mean, I listen loosely, but yeah. At 25, I credit Wayne for me being so open-minded with hip-hop now. Because when I was 13, 14, I was a super backpack head.
Starting point is 01:46:22 And Wayne came around, and he was the energy that you could not ignore and the more and more you heard you were like all right this guy is kind of fucking dope I don't want to like it but he's pulling you in dope right and then that drew me more and more towards mainstream rappers that I do love to this day and I credit him for having an open mind now what era Wayne was that like this was this was um Carter Carter to Carter to where you from fireman and shit like that okay yes was quarter to era which quarter to was his best album right in my opinion right but I mean call it three was great so I think Carter to was his best out of two was harder to is Wayne's by sound I mean you got some people Carter three had good hits but Carter to was cohesively
Starting point is 01:46:59 like yeah I think I think majority of Wayne fans would agree with that mm-hmm hey Austin where we at like two hours way over 108 what is it wait an hour and eight minutes or 108 minutes
Starting point is 01:47:12 oh I was about to say an hour I was like what something seems a little off there what did we miss Austin anything else we need to touch on here
Starting point is 01:47:20 do we have any last words for Jack I know something y'all need to touch on hey this dirt oh my god yo grow up man do a serious podcast touch on here? Do we have any last words for Jack? I know some y'all need to touch on. This dirt! Grow up, man. Do a serious podcast for a change.
Starting point is 01:47:30 You'd be mature for a change. That's kind of paused, though, B. Who are you talking to in that scene? You and Beyonce. Why did you get that lace front? I like it. I think her hair looks good. It doesn't. It does. The front. No, I like that. I'm not a fan of lace front i don't
Starting point is 01:47:45 know why women do that explain it to me well what else what other options it looks more natural no no it doesn't lace fronts don't look natural it doesn't look i mean granted it's not a fucking irvington lace front but it's not like are y'all her hair looks nice on on weaves uh what's an irvington what the fuck is. That's a hood part of Jersey where the midges look crazy. Is that when they crudely paste that fucking lace front right on the middle
Starting point is 01:48:09 of your forehead? No, I'm naive. Excuse my ignorance. Why do women do lace fronts? You're looking at me like I get a lace front. I don't know. I don't get it.
Starting point is 01:48:15 I've never gotten it. And I thought maybe it was because I was white. Speak into the mic. I'm new to weave. You got to get closer to the mic. Okay, I'm new to weave, but I just thought
Starting point is 01:48:23 it was more natural and I just want everything underneath. No. You're beautiful beautiful but that's not her last one like when her hair would grow then like it would be like flatness and then puff because that's where the weave would start so that looked nuts also women do that um for their edges i think i don't know how this works because i'm i don't know because you're white i know i'm black and i go my just my my hair girl does it for me and we just know to lace fronts just in general yeah six irregular but wait what other options are there can't you just put like a sew in the back
Starting point is 01:48:52 what is it why do you know these things yo why are we why do we need a weave podcast i wear clipping i'm gonna start a weave podcast i telling you, this guy's the Puff Daddy of podcasts, man. And I'm taking all they publishing. Weave show. Unbeweavable. Oh, wait. So, real quick, since we still have you, for different podcasts on the loudspeaker networks, are the splits different, or is it the same split?
Starting point is 01:49:19 It's all, you know, one thing. To all you podcasters out there who don't want to be on a fucking podcast label. As an artist, there's no identical contracts. Mani, shut the fuck up. There's no identical contracts. That guy's good. The CEO is a lawyer too. But I'm saying some people...
Starting point is 01:49:44 But how do you determine which podcast is more valuable? How much we put in. How much they put in. How crazy they hit the ground running. I mean. Well, when is this contract determined? After their first episode? Because that's a lot of tangible things that happen after.
Starting point is 01:50:02 Going into it. You know what I'm saying? And then, you know, I mean, contracts are a living thing. But the most important thing you got to figure out is who has the leverage. Like, who really needs who more? I mean, sometimes we might be
Starting point is 01:50:15 more dependent on our biggest acts. So they have the most leverage. Okay. And we want to keep them happy. And then we have acts that are leaning on us and it's like you gotta hold this until you get to a certain level
Starting point is 01:50:29 well who are some of the biggest acts the biggest by far Kid Fury the read is like we're getting calls from people that are on the other side of the podcast field like This American Life
Starting point is 01:50:44 and NPR. And they're like, those motherfuckers are the shit. They're a phenomena, black, white, whatever. They're a phenomena in the game. So they're like the biggest act on the network. Next up is Brilliant Idiots. I mean, Charlemagne is an undeniable star. Love him or hate him, he's a star.
Starting point is 01:51:06 Andrew Schultz. And then they both come in with Andrew and his comedic background. Power 105, MTV. So that's a built-in audience. And Charlamagne is just getting bigger and bigger and bigger. And then there's me. And then there's the rest of the shows. But there's Tax Stone.
Starting point is 01:51:25 No, no, Tax Stone is not to be mentioned but i'm no but but but but but tax is still for the short time he's been in the game like it's it's not where your fans follow you it's when you discover new fans and he is you know he like, you ever play video games? And you're going through a town and the map opens up? That's what Tax is doing. He's opening up the map each and every episode.
Starting point is 01:51:55 Does his contract split say that? Tax is very happy. Okay, okay, okay. Thanks, Pop. What I do gotta say about Tax that's phenomenal is nine months ago, he wasn't doing this shit. Nine months ago, he was doing hood shit with his friends. Well, you know, he's still doing hood shit with his friends. But I'm watching the progression about, like, he's like, yo, how much hood shit with my friend shit can I do now?
Starting point is 01:52:26 Because now it might take away this new shit I'm doing with my new friends. Yeah, new obligation. You know, so watching him go, like, come on, you've been in the game a long time, but you remember when you first came in the game when you was raw. Yeah. It was like how fast you had to grow up or not how fast you had to grow up. And watching him grow very fast, even though there's a lot more that he had to grow up or not how fast you had to grow up. And watching him grow very fast, even though there's a lot more that he has to grow,
Starting point is 01:52:48 but watching him grow in these past nine months has been phenomenal. He gets it. When you talk, he's still going to do good shit. No, he's a smart brother. But when you talk to him,
Starting point is 01:52:56 it's like, yo, Tax, you got to change this. He's like, I got it. No, nah, nah, y'all don't understand. I got it. Okay. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:53:04 All right. Well, Tax, I'll see you on Monday. I'll see you on Monday. We'll talk about contracts up there. Yes, yes, yes. You want to come in and watch Hoju? Wait, so you guys are totally independent now? Yeah. Yep.
Starting point is 01:53:17 What happened? No, I mean, we've always been independent. Okay. No, we, you know, initially, initially, I think Pete had the idea that he wanted to start a network yes I think in his career
Starting point is 01:53:31 he got very busy yeah I don't think he had the time to actually go about seeing that out and for me it's like I'm a one man band
Starting point is 01:53:42 yes like I don't really need Pete so it's like once I started doing a few, it's like I'm a one-man band. Like, I don't really need Pete. So it's like once I started doing a few podcasts, it was like, all right, we off to the races. We kind of got it now. So if you ain't bringing something a little more than that bullshit you was talking about before.
Starting point is 01:53:57 But he's still a cool dude, though. I fuck with Pete. No, I fuck with Pete, too, which is kind of crazy. That's crazy. I like that, though. Marissa, you want to touch on this Shit you're showing me Why is it
Starting point is 01:54:08 Drake No we never wanted to I didn't read too into it Sorry y'all But the title show Hitboy brought out Quentin Miller For 10
Starting point is 01:54:15 To rap 10 bands Why is that a big deal Because that's Shitting on Drake That's Quentin Shitting on Drake And Hitboy Shitting on Drake
Starting point is 01:54:21 Why is this happening Why is Hitboy Shitting on Drake Or is it like... Well, Drake is with Apple. Right. So anything with this title show. And then Quentin is rapping 10 bands though?
Starting point is 01:54:32 Everything in hip-hop is so beef right now. I mean, it's always been. Does that shit get tired? He's doing a show at time. That's beef. Doesn't he look like Raven? Hmm. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:54:42 Why would Hit-Boy and Drake be beefing? I don't know. I can't even think of a reason. And why is. I don't know. Why would Hit-Boy and Drake be beefing? I don't know. I can't even think of a reason. And why is... I don't like this... I don't like all this stuff that Quentin is doing as of late. Yeah, that's weird, right? Quentin is...
Starting point is 01:54:53 He's biting the hand that fed him. Yeah, what has he been doing? He's been doing a lot of... A little sublims. A lot of sass and shade. So somebody's fueling him. I mean, I don't know that somebody is doing it. He's got to look out for himself.
Starting point is 01:55:06 Huh? He's got to look out for himself huh he's gotta look out for himself at this point if Drake Drake hasn't said a word about this kid outside of big him up isn't he getting points on writing credits
Starting point is 01:55:14 I would imagine so yeah but that what yeah oh you ain't getting paid alright so move
Starting point is 01:55:22 start your own career I don't like it I don't like it you gonna fucking live off his album for the rest of your life? Maybe I'm just old fashioned. I just don't like when coworkers, people who work together at some point. Friends become frenemies become frenemies. Yeah, I don't like it.
Starting point is 01:55:36 If we were business partners, if we were friends, if me and Imani never speak another day, I have nothing negative to say about him. Publicly. In public. I just don't. Why is he on this Tadal show? I don't need Tadal. That's my enunciation.
Starting point is 01:55:54 Why is he on this fucking Tadal show? I don't get it. So now you got Drake. Wayne is on this show. Nicky's on this show. Hitboy is bringing out this kid. Is his loyalty to Drake? He wrote a few records for him Why is he supposed to be loyal to him?
Starting point is 01:56:09 Because No no no no Why should he be Why should he shut up And not start his career? There's a difference Between starting your career And then going out
Starting point is 01:56:15 To perform your reference track You can minimalize it That way If you want Maybe Drake was like Yo take this record and run Drake gave his brother An opportunity
Starting point is 01:56:23 Drake did not say that And you know that Maybe And when we first And the very first time We ever heard from Quentin Miller That's the Quentin Miller we heard want maybe drake was like yo take this brother and opportunity and you know that maybe and when we first and the very first time we ever heard from quentin miller that's the quentin miller we heard and great gave me an opportunity when no one else would yeah so where's that quentin miller using his moment the few minutes that he has that people care about his name to his advantage i'm not saying that's black or that's right, but that's what it is.
