The Livy Method Podcast - Day 24: Why 17 Supplements Won't Fix Burnout (Do the Basics Instead)

Episode Date: October 7, 2026

Gina and Dr. Trejo talk about what happens when your stress outpaces your capacity to recover, and why that hits harder in perimenopause and menopause. They get into loneliness, social media overload,... the "doctor says it's not your cortisol" frustration, and why doing less often works better than adding more. You'll hear which supplements have research behind them, which popular ones don't, and a simple breathing reset you can start today. This conversation is educational, not medical advice. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting any supplement, especially if you take medication.Where to Find Dr. OlincaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr.olinca/Email to connect about her upcoming Hormones Masterclass starting in November: info@drolinca.comWe've had some great previous conversations with Dr. Olinca.Sleep, Stress and Hormones with Dr. OlincaWatch: https://youtu.be/LylPLL3mpSUListen: https://open.acast.com/public/streams/65fc46bb20f30d0016e6c7a7/episodes/697b7d1d65c54ec91944ef59.mp3Hormones and Weight Loss Parts 1 & 2:Part 1: Watch: https://youtu.be/a8PYX8hKWgEListen: https://open.acast.com/public/streams/65fc46bb20f30d0016e6c7a7/episodes/6994876b8b7fe5457d3c6245.mp3Part 2: Watch: https://youtu.be/SWZJwqZg_vQListen: https://open.acast.com/public/streams/65fc46bb20f30d0016e6c7a7/episodes/6997355c4a6b6137bf8ca8b0.mp3This podcast aligns with Day 24 of our Fall Program, members can find video in our Livy Method app or Livy Method Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/livymethodThere is still time to join the Fall Program and there are two ways to join you can purchase the Fall Session for $99, or become a member for $20/month for year-round support, access to every session, Livy AI, member perks and more. Starting point is 00:00:00 New season, new name, bigger conversations. Welcome to Live Lighter with Gina, because lightness isn't something you find. It's something you create in your body, your mind, your home, and in your life. Real conversations, no bullshit. So let's lighten things up for you. If you're looking to lose weight and you want to keep it off, you have got to check out the Living Method. Our next live session starts September 14th.
Starting point is 00:00:32 Better than ever. easy to follow. We have the most incredible community, and it works. Head over to living method.com to sign out today. Dr. Link in the house. Hi. Good morning, everyone. You know, why am I like this?
Starting point is 00:00:59 I always love our conversations. Full transparency, a link and I behind the scene. She was like, what are we talking about today? I'm like, I don't know. There's so many things. Like honestly, because I was like, do we, we dive in the whole hormone conversation. Obviously, people want to talk about menopause. We just talked to Dr. B and Elena yesterday about really understanding how when you're not getting that sleep, it's affecting your brain and the choices, layer on stress, anything you got going on in your life, divorce, grief, whatever.
Starting point is 00:01:29 It's so much. As you know, we are week three of people showing up trying to make change, lose weight in a healthy, sustainable way. some members are new, some of us are returning. I want to ask you, what do you think the hardest thing for women is right now? Like, what are they coming to you for asking about what do they want to know? What are they struggling with? I know that's super loaded. We've got four hours ago. Yeah. Honestly, I think that all of us feel overwhelmed. I think that we all feel so dysregulated. I think that I, you know, that I have a very interesting relationship. relationship with social media, which you love and you hate all at once, everybody.
Starting point is 00:02:12 But I do think that seeing, being bombarded by all of these messages of like what you need to look like, like what your house needs to look like for Thanksgiving, like the type of exercise you need to do, but also the protein. And then the fiber in like how to be a childwife. And like then the yoga and like all of the things like you just honestly, it's it's so disregulating because I think that we already have so much on our plate as it is without all of that noise. Yeah. You pile that on top and then it doesn't matter what you do or how much you do. You constantly feel like you're failing because you're getting the message that you're failing because you're not doing enough. Yeah. Like we're failing at sleep, right? We're failing at menopause.
Starting point is 00:02:59 We're failing at keeping my house organized. I'm failing at everything. In fact, that's one of the reasons why so this program is built on when I first started running it on my own when it was a small group of like you know less than 500 people would ask questions and that I would write all these posts to answer people's questions then people wanted to know the science when I say created this giant ass fucking book you want to lose wait here you go buy this book here's the bible yeah and then we used to have like these hours long conversations but like that was back pandemic days when we maybe we didn't have capacity but we had time and even i'm feeling it because i'm like we don't need a university course we don't actually even need more information
Starting point is 00:03:43 we need like practical we need to be feel we need to feel seen understood we need hope give us hope like the last thing we need to do is you know take on more stuff and i think this is like it's not because we haven't spent enough money or or or or tried hard or put enough time in. And I think just it's more of that that's not helping. I'm so glad I asked because even my team the other day, like I forgot to do my post for Sunday. I woke up Sunday morning and I'm like, wait, I didn't do my work. And I talked to the team about it.
Starting point is 00:04:21 I'm like, what's going on? They're like we feel like we love our jobs, but we feel like there's, and it's just life so overwhelmed and a lot. going on. Where do we even start? I think like, where do we, okay, where do we even start? Because I know everyone listening is probably feeling the same. Where do we start with this? Do we start with how it's impacting us physically to try to motivate us to understand the small things we do? Like, what's the conversation here? I don't know. Yeah. I mean, if somebody comes into my practice, it feels very overwhelmed, honestly, because they feel like they need to do all the things, all at once.
Starting point is 00:04:58 Legitimately, I start with the same. simplest things. I start, which is going to sound like such a like, and welcome to the sleep week. But I often, like, nine times out of ten, I start with sleep, right? Because if you're dysregulated, the first thing that's going to regulate you is not going to be more exercise. It's not going to be more snacks or more Instagram post. It's going to be you allowing yourself to rest. And I think that the problem is, is that most of us do engage in behaviors that either cut out time of our sleep or actually give us really crappy quality sleep.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Because I think that, you know, not that every time that we have this conversation, we have people in rightly so being like, I don't have time to sleep eight hours a night. I doubt that you make choices to make sure that the time that you actually do spend sleeping is great sleep. and it actually helps regulate you, right? Which is actually the conversation that you were having with the girls yesterday. Yeah, I want to actually talk about, I think this is the first time we've really, you've, dysregulation.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Like, what is that? Because the other day I was Googling burnout, right? Like, am I depressed? No, I'm, I'm, no, it's, am I burnt out? Well, I'm, I'm, I'm loving everything that I'm doing. I think it's this dysregulation. What is dysregulation? How would we recognize it in ourselves?
Starting point is 00:06:34 You know, I would go back to the very basic concept of we are all mammals. And like any mammal out there, our stress response in our nervous system was meant for short-term stress, right? You see a zebra in the wild and this zebra sees a lion and she's like, oh, God. and she either run or gets eaten. There's only those two choices. Hopefully she runs and she makes it to safety. She goes back to like chilling with her girlfriend's eating grass, right? Not for the rest of her life.
Starting point is 00:07:05 She's not like constantly monitoring for that same lion. And so I think what happens is that with us because stress comes not just in like one massive lion that's about to eat you, but there's like so many things coming at you and your nervous system was not meant for that. the load of stress that you have versus the capacity for you to deal with that stress is out of whack, it's out of balance, right? Your stress is here and your capacity is only here.
Starting point is 00:07:33 And then the problem is that you keep on adding more and more and more because that is life in 2026. But then there is nothing that's going into this pool to actually bring this back up, right? Because you don't have time to sleep. You don't have time to move. You don't have time for social connection. you don't have time for anything creative because there's so many things that are being added on and on and on. And so what we say is like your allothatic load or that stress load surpasses your capacity to cope with it. And it just depletes you, right?
Starting point is 00:08:04 Because your nervous system is constantly just being bombarded by things and it's trying to respond to these acute stressors. And your body doesn't have the capacity to do that because it was never meant to do that in the first place. Yeah. Yeah, it's, it's, it's our body, the stress is fine. It's our inability to come down, relax, recover from the stress because the minute something stressful happens, chances are, like, we're out. Let's say I almost get in a car accident. Oh my God, or you see one. That was crazy. Then I come home and then I'm like, got to make dinner. Maybe I'm going on my phone, they're stress. I'm doing emails and text work. I'm like still like, I haven't.
Starting point is 00:08:47 and actually take in a minute to like, and if I do, I'm flaking on the couch with a glass of wine that's going to fuck up my sleep. So we did, we did a post. Oh my God. We're doing a post in the group today because, I mean, when I first started doing these large groups like, what, six years ago, you know, I never had a client who, it was really interesting. I've been thinking about this a lot. And I never had a client who needed to stop drinking in order to lose weight. But I think the world is different now compared to where it was six years ago. And I think about that, why is it different? Because it's not like, it's not the alcohol. It's if it's affecting your sleep, affecting your hormones, you know, obviously causing you to crave more carbs and sugar the next day,
Starting point is 00:09:34 you're less sensitive to insulin. It's not the alcohol per se. It's the effects of really not getting that sleep that really messes you up. But why do you think it's different now? Why do you, because we were in menopause before, I had women do the program and they could lose weight without cutting out alcohol. But now it just seems like, now it just seems like, yeah, what's going on there? How can you know what I think before and it's done now? Yeah, honestly, if I think back to, for example, like 15 years ago, 20 years ago, actually when I started practicing, I really do think that women have gotten always the shorter not to stick in society, like always, because we are just like never enough, right? Like we're not skinny up, not pretty enough. We're like, we constantly are
Starting point is 00:10:21 like searching to like do more and more and more and more. Like I don't, I don't know, sorry about the men in the group, you guys. But like I just, I don't, I don't see the same pressure at least for heterosexual men, I will say. And I think honestly, I, that's actually probably why I have such a like love-hate relationship with a lot of like the social media messaging that happens. I think honestly, I do think that part of that has come from all of the messaging that we're getting. Also what doom scrolling does to our brain and that need for dopamine as well. Right. In this cycle, like if you think about, for example, how you were as a teenager and the pressures
Starting point is 00:11:02 that you had as a teenager versus your kids now because of social media, they're completely different, right? also life is moving very different at a very different pace. Things are so much more expensive. Like everybody's demanding way more from you, whether it's your work, whether it's especially right now with like the race with AI where it's like, you know, you have to become more efficient because otherwise you're going to be replaced by AI and robots.
Starting point is 00:11:27 I think that there's just so much more pressure on us to be more to perform better. Like you're constantly in this chase with, you know, you're competing with the Joneses. Because everything is also seen. That's how I feel at least. I'm like, that's how I see it in like my practice. I just think that life is moving at such a faster pace than it ever has before. Well, listen to Patty. Because families need a double income to survive because kids are in more than one competitive
Starting point is 00:11:56 sports. Parents are working full time, coming home and running so our nervous system doesn't have time to relax because when we get home, we have to do all the housework, etc. And it goes on and on and on. If you can tell us how to break that cycle, that would be amazing. Now, and this can be everyone's own individual version of that. Right. So we're all feeling it.
Starting point is 00:12:17 And regardless of why you are feeling it, we are feeling it. What, where do we start? So, you know, we know it's important to move our bodies. We know it's important to try to get better sleep. What would you suggest on your end? Like supplements, journaling, like what? How do we climb out of this? How do we climb out of it?
Starting point is 00:12:37 Yeah, so listen, I think that loneliness is an epidemic in our society. I think that the more, like what Patty was saying, you know, before we used to live in communities, we had like this village, right? Like you were able to stay home with your kids and now you can't. You're constantly just working and doing it, working and doing and working. And I think most of us have become very isolated. And we have so much research that says that isolation and loneliness is that the core, of so much chronic disease and yes.
Starting point is 00:13:11 No, I know. I'm just, I'm thinking of all the things like, loneliness doesn't mean being on your own. Like I want to make that very clear. You can live in a house full of people and still feel lonely. You can have girlfriends where you go out and maybe you drink and you party, but I'm not bothering my girlfriend with my issues because she's got her own issues, right?
Starting point is 00:13:32 Like my friend is dealing with something that I, I like, life because in comparison to her, she's got so much going on. But if I'm not talking to anybody about it, I'm just keeping it all in. Like, this is kind of the world. Everyone's got their problems. I find we're not as sherry. Friendships get harder as we get older. If we're not going out to drink and party, I mean, maybe we're going to go play pickleball and we're active when we're doing something great, but there's that connectiveness that we're missing. Yeah. It's. Yeah. It's And I think that that's something that we don't talk about, honestly, because we talk about journaling and breathing and sleep and movement and all the things.
Starting point is 00:14:16 But I do think that so many of us, the one thing that we lack is connection. Connection to our cell. Yeah. Connection to other people around us, right? Connection to our feelings because we suppress them because we're not supposed to feel them because we're not supposed to accomplish them. Or we feel guilty when we do. We feel guilty. Or we're guestlit because you're not.
Starting point is 00:14:37 supposed to be feeling like that. I wish Dr. B was here because she would have an acronym for all the things we need to do you guys to acknowledge all those feelings and motions and like deal with them. But I do, I do think for me, at least in my practice, that's like one of the very first things that I start talking about instead of just being like, breathe and meditate and do other things. It's like, okay, can we just start with this? Right? Because you and I have had this conversation, and this has probably shifted. I've noticed for you, probably in the last like year, maybe two, where you've been like, I feel like I need to do less because I think that you've been in this constant hustle all the time where you probably noticed that you became somewhat dysregulated. Now you're like at this point where you're like, am I burnt there?
Starting point is 00:15:21 Like where am I? Yes. And you even said like, I just like, how do I do less? Like how do I just like take things off my plate? And unfortunately for a lot of us, like it doesn't feel like an option, right? Like it doesn't feel like an option because you have two part time jobs. because the kids need to get fed, because you're an Uber driver for like 17 activities, right? So I totally get that.
Starting point is 00:15:44 But I do think that finding similarly to how we talk about exercise snacks through this program, right? You talk about this with Andrew a lot. We've talked about it before, about adding in some movement. I do think that adding in snacks for whether it is something that that's like replenishing your soul in connecting you back to yourself, whether that is something creative, whether that is maybe breathing, whether that is calling a girlfriend, whether that is like just something that actually is grounding. And grounding is that act of literally you feel here all the time and you just come back and you ground yourself. One of the easiest things that I always recommend because it was taught to me actually when my husband was in Boston,
Starting point is 00:16:31 I took a course with a doctor, her name is Dr. Diti New Yorker. She wrote an amazing book that's called The Five Resets. And one of the things that she taught us was like if you actually eat in a state of those regulation or high stress, it's the equivalent as if you ate about 100 calories more than you actually did. Yeah. And so one of the things that I start with if you don't know where to start is I do one minute of deep breathing before every, any time that I put anything in my mouth, I do one minute of deep breathing. And that on its own brings me out of fight or flight or out of the conversation I just have with a patient back into myself and back into I'll be resting and digesting right now. You know, in that I know that it doesn't seem like a lot, but for me it's been like monumental, honestly.
Starting point is 00:17:23 It's the, it doesn't seem like a lot so it's not worth doing, right? Everyone is like, go hard, go home, all or nothing. And this is what we're, so we just introduced the four sets of mindful eating questions, right? And the point is, is that to practice things that, so it becomes automatic to you so that you do create a practice of before you dive into your food because it's lunchtime, actually ask yourself, am I actually hungry? Before you scroll on your phone, doing a million things before you know you've eaten all your food and way too much. That is what, this is exactly the practice that we're putting into play here is like just take a minute. And because we don't think it's a lot, is it really worth? We were in that meeting the other day with my team.
Starting point is 00:18:07 And we're all just like, are we all feeling the same way? Like, what's going on? This is not just like, what is it? And there was one person in our group, Odette, who runs our maintenance program. And she just looks like a ray of sunshine. She is just like, and her dad was perfect too. She was like, and her dad passed away. Her sister passed away this year.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Her mom is in the hospital currently. And I said, Odette, what the fuck are you doing? And she's like, you know, I just got to a place where I recognized I needed to like take time, see things from a different perspective. And, you know, same thing, like journal, breathing, whatever. And I was like, holy shit. Like, okay. You know. And she's the one who should be the worst of us is showing up like this beacon of light.
Starting point is 00:18:55 And she's like, I'm not doing a lot. I'm just doing the things that I can do. And I recognize I have to do these things. I want to ask you, what's going to happen if we're. don't do these things. Are we going to have heart attacks? We're going to break hips. Like let's, I'm trying to like, we know we need to do it. But what before we get into what we can do? Because I'm going to ask you, what are the supplements? What are the things? What is the actionable steps? What's going to happen if we continue on this journey? Okay. So let's talk about dysregulation
Starting point is 00:19:22 in general. Usually the synthesis of this regulation are going to be you're not sleeping enough or if you're sleeping. It's actually very restless. It's not deep enough. Right. We know that that that. And, is going to have an impact in your risk for cardiovascular disease, is going to have increased your risk for dementia, is going to increase your risk for diabetes and metabolic dysfunction, right? Just that on its own. If we're talking about chronic stress as well, we actually know that chronic stress legitimately shrinks your brain, right?
Starting point is 00:19:56 It's that that really high cortisol will actually legitimately shrink specific parts of your brain. And like, I don't know about you, but I need all the brains as I can get because, like, I probably killed a lot in the 90s. And so, so that, that is, like, one of them. Chronic stress also, right, because of the impact that it has on your hormones. And, like, think about your stress response, right? When you feel stressed out, your blood pressure goes up, your heart rate goes up. It's really hard on your system. My brain doesn't work. My brain stops functioning. I can't even speak. the other day I was like, I was like,
Starting point is 00:20:35 and I just gave up. I was like, eh. That's just like a snippet of what happens, right? Because it actually does have that impact on your cardiovascular system. Again, in like, because of the impact of like,
Starting point is 00:20:51 for example, cortisol on blood sugar, right, on muscle mass. We know that, honestly, people that live in that chronic dysregulation for a really,
Starting point is 00:20:59 really, really long period of time. And the easiest, the easiest, picture that you can put in your brain, and if you're going to chat you pitie this, is going to be Cushin's disease. Not that you're going to get Cushing's disease if you're like super stressed there, but what usually happens has to you gain a lot of weight abdominally, you eat away all of
Starting point is 00:21:15 your muscle mass, your cholesterol goes up, your heart rate goes up, your blood pressure goes up, you end up with diabetes. And so it's all of those things that happen. Obviously, genetics and so many other things play a role into it, but that's actually what it increases your risk up, right? and then down the line, if you have that and you don't have muscle mass, yeah, you're probably going to break a hip and die. I mean, that's the reality of cortisol, high cortisol is cushings, right? Like, and you need to go to the doctor.
Starting point is 00:21:41 You need to be in the hospital. Like, that's like serious, serious. Yeah, that's a tumor. Yeah. Yeah, that is some serious. And I think this is where what we're getting out there is like, it's that extremes. But there is like how it affects you in between that. that needs to be taken seriously.
Starting point is 00:22:01 For sure. And I think that that's the hardest part about honestly being sometimes the medicine is that in conventional medicine or allopathic medicine, we just look at absolutes, right? If you don't have cushions disease, then obviously cortisol is not having an impact on your body. And it's like, no, no. Like our body is not just black or white.
Starting point is 00:22:22 There's so a lot of gray in between, right? And there's a lot of things that we can do in between. And I think that that's actually why so many of us just feel like gaslit by this system because you're like, but I'm not sleeping and I'm not doing all these things. And I am gaining belly fat. And like my blood pressure keeps on going up and it's like not responding to things. And your doctor's like, yeah, it can't be your cortisol, man, because you don't have coaching. So like can't be that. And so it's slowly that we're having this conversation. Oh yeah, I can. Oh, yeah. It can. Well, and also this is like the menopause.
Starting point is 00:22:53 This is what happening in menopause. It's like, well, menopause doesn't cause weight gain. And I'm like, oh, for fuck sakes. I like, I know. going through menopause doesn't directly on its own cause weight gain, but lack of sleep, high stress, not eating enough, losing your muscle mass because you haven't been as active, because you are overloaded with everything else. Okay, it's not a direct result science people, but absolutely what we are dealing with in menopause is directly feeding into that weight gain in our midsection. We're not getting that anti-inflammatory properties from estrogen anymore. more like this is where we get these blanket statements that make us feel like such failures.
Starting point is 00:23:34 Okay. What do we fucking do? The only, the only thing that I was going to say about that, too, is that in perimenopause and menopause, we do see a physiological increase in cortisol, even if your stress doesn't increase. And cholesterol. Because you're losing testosterone. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:48 Yeah. And so your, your cortisol will increase because you're starting to lose a lot of those testosterone or like the male hormones at the beginning. and then your cholesterol will start like increasing because your liver becomes less efficient at clearing it, but also because all of these hormones are made from cholesterol. So the moment that your body starts like sensing this change, right, it's like, oh, God, what can I do? And it starts producing more cholesterol. So there's so many changes that happen to us.
Starting point is 00:24:16 And like, all we have is like, go take more men. And it's like, you all know. Let's take it back and like do this. Okay. But what do we do? Yes. Well, this is where the hormone, understanding hormones is such an important conversation. And there's no way we can have this in this timeframe. And Dr. Elinka is going to be back with us.
Starting point is 00:24:34 But we've had some really incredible conversations about hormones and like all the hormones in your body and how they are involved in your weight journey. So I'm going to link those past conversations. Get them up in the app for you. So and I know you also, Dr. Linker runs an incredible hormone master class, which you should really have a basic. understanding of how your body works. You can't talk about how your body works without talking about hormones and understanding how they all work together. We're going to say, we're going to let you know where you can find her. But first, what can we do? Everyone's talking about magnesium.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Do we do supplements? Let's talk supplements. Like, would there be like three that you'd be like, okay, you need to take? Magnetium, for sure. What kind? What kind? I like this site. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:22 So, listen, if you have constipation, and like muscle tension, I think that citrate is amazing because it's like it's cheap. It's really easy to absorb and it's going to be really great for bowels, right? Okay. Can I just stop? Yes. Can I stop you there because we don't pay enough attention to fiber or our bowels? Like a lot of people, I mean, this is a right, we need six hours because I know.
Starting point is 00:25:48 I take the citrate and I take the bisglycinates. I take both. But we need to be like people are always like, oh, well, it makes me go to the bathroom. You need to be emptying your bowels. Like there is, we should talk about battle health because my goodness, we're messed up there. Anyway, I digress. Too many things to talk about. I know.
Starting point is 00:26:08 We'll do that next time, you guys. When I come back in a couple of ways, maybe we'll talk about that. Okay. So that's side trade. If you have very sensitive bowels and like if your primary thing is more like anxiety, you feel wired before bed, I think that bisglystinate and L-3onate are better. So this glycinate has a little molecule that's called glycine, and amino acid that helps you calm your brain.
Starting point is 00:26:32 So it's actually really nice for sleep. L-3onate is actually the magnesium that crosses to the blood, like through the blood-brain barrier. And it actually has been shown to, yes, improve sleep duration and quality, but also decrease your risk of Alzheimer's. And like work with almost like those, those beta amyloid plaques.
Starting point is 00:26:51 And so if that is the concern for you or you're starting to see cognitive decline or there's like a lot of family history of that in your family, I think that magnesium L 3 and 8 as Magm is probably your best bet. So that's magnesium. Well, vitamin D is amazing. So I'm just going to plug that because vitamin D is amazing for everything. So we're just going to be that. Honestly, if we're talking about herbs and we're talking, I'm going to give you an herb and then I'm going to give you a like a different supplement. So herbs, I think that the two that I use the most in my practice that I love is going to be Ashwaganda. So I know that Dr. Paul talked about this all the time. The two herbs that have the most research for helping with that cortisol response are going to be Ashwaganda and Rodeola. Rodeola is an herb that we don't talk about enough in our program. We talk a lot about Ashwaganda. But Rodeola is what we call the fastest acting adaptogen because if you're in
Starting point is 00:27:48 not like wired state where you feel here. Rodeola within one to two weeks will just bring you right down. Okay. So adaptogens help with stress. With stress. Yes. Okay. And do we go to the store and buy them or what do we need to keep in mind?
Starting point is 00:28:05 Yeah. Thank you so much for asking. Okay. So I, so listen, with herbs, you have to be really careful because they do get processed by some families of enzymes that other medications get processed by, right? So with these medications, you have to be really careful if you're taking sedatives, if you're taking anticoagulants specifically, because it will increase your risk of bleeding. And so before you buy anything, talk to your pharmacist and talk to your doctor because, like,
Starting point is 00:28:32 we don't want to get sued. But they are really great herbs to talk to your team about. Rodeola is going to work faster than Ashwaganda. And if in Ashwaganda, we're looking at that I just needed to help me with stress. you want to be looking for a type of asheraganda because types and extracts matter with herbs. Yeah. Ashwaganda should be censoril. Just like sen sorrel.
Starting point is 00:28:58 If you're fighting a little bit more with like libido and you feel a little bit more tired but wired, you want to be looking for an extract that's called KSM-66. Okay. So we're going to add some notes to this conversation because everyone's like, what's the, what's the thing? I know, we're going to have some notes. I'm answering honestly, you know? No, this is a, this, as all of our conversations are not prescriptive, this is awareness, this is giving you hope that there are some things you can add in and do.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Some may or may not be right for you, but we're not gatekeeping it. We're not holding back. No, we're not getting, you know, but this is nuanced. And the reason why I'm saying specific extracts, yeah, is because I think that sometimes people go and get the, like, I'm not going to name brands, but like, I, I, I, I, uh, really crappy quality brand that's like not what's supposed to work and it's never going to work for you and so if we're talking about like specific herbs i'm going to tell you these are like the two if you're feeling very dysregulated and you're like listen i've tried those i don't like them
Starting point is 00:30:01 or like we already have these and they're not working we're going to and i know dr paul talks about this but alphanine is great and so is saffron so those two honestly i've started using so much more in my practice. So saffron has so much research right now happening for like that anxiety, like dysregulation and perimenopause, menopause. That's really great. And it's like, it's a really great herb because it tends to be really safe. And L-thianine is like meditation in a capsule. It is so good because it actually helps your brain produce more of the calming brain waves. Right. So that's kind of like like that, you know, those are things that sometimes we talk about in the program, sometimes we don't that I think that you should consider talking
Starting point is 00:30:47 to your health practitioner about. Yeah. Because we don't keep here. Yeah, no, we don't. And it's just like, we don't want to have restrictive, like we, here's where I function from. We're smart. We can figure this out. Never take something because I tell you or Dr. Alinket tells you, right? So, so, so you like, oh, that sound, or chat, CBT, that sounds interesting. Go talk to, go book appointment with an afteropathic doctor. Talk to your own family doctor. Talk to your own family doctor. talk to your pharmacist. Go to a reputable health food store where there are people who are knowledgeable there, right? Ask them, is this, I'm taking medications.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Does this interact? If they're like, I don't know, don't get it, wait and talk to someone. So there is a lot of crap out there. And this is where we do want to have. What do you think is the biggest crap right now? Oh. Like, what do you hear people talking about that's just crap? Like, just like, I know.
Starting point is 00:31:39 I mean, can I, can I pass brand? Like, I don't know. There's, okay. So listen. Go for it. Okay, great. So listen, Array, which is like a brand. Actually, like one of my friends worked on like the first supplement and was great.
Starting point is 00:31:53 And then, yeah, it was long story. But so I'd beef with them. But they have this thing that's supposed to be like a natural GLP1. I can't remember what it's. It's like MLB-782 or like whatever. Please don't get that. There's no research. It's not going to work.
Starting point is 00:32:11 There isn't a natural. a GLP1. No. Acremencia and all of these things that you're going to see online, they're amazing. It's not going to work like a GLP1. It's just not. It's just never. No.
Starting point is 00:32:22 And so I do, I have so many people coming in being like, do you, like, I don't want to do a GLP one. Should I do these 17 supplements are going to be eight times more expensive and probably have 25 more side of advice on a GLP one. It's like, queen no. So I do think that right now, the whole like, take this instead of a GLP one is like the biggest load of crap. And honestly, I start getting really nervous with like peptides. I was just going to say they called it M something, whatever, because they're trying to do a peptide
Starting point is 00:32:51 thing with you, right? Like, yeah, same. People ask me, are you doing them? I'm like, uh, no. I mean, like, GLP1, that's a peptide, right? Like the triseptide or red at true tide or whatever that got going on. But like some research is better than no research in people making shit in their basements. Like, come on. Or actually, you know what? I've heard also like pharmacists selling these things at the back of like nail salons. And I'm like, that sounds like a Netflix special like what you need to happen.
Starting point is 00:33:19 So I don't know. But you know, there's some wild things going out in the world right now. But I do. Yeah. I like to look at it as listen, we have to make money. We have businesses for a reason, right? Like I, you know, people work for me. We got to pay the bills.
Starting point is 00:33:35 We got to make money. It costs money to provide service. services, right? At the same time, though, if you can look at this industry as people are capitalizing a lot right now on weight loss medications and menopause, like it's just a money-making machine. So if you can view everything from that lens, what are they trying to sell me right now? And this is the same thing with like protein bars and shakes and all these, all of these things. This is why supplements, you never hear us talking about crazy wackadoo shit. It's always like, give me the basics that can actually And give me the things that has that has research, right?
Starting point is 00:34:10 Like we always, Dr. Paul and I, whenever we recommend something, it's like, if somebody comes in and questions, you have like, oh, these are like the 17 meta-nals that are RCTs that are done on it, right? And I can tell you like who it's for and why it's not. And so I think that that's, you know, unfortunately for all of us, honestly, the thing is that the magic comes from the basics. The magic comes from showing up every day that you're here. it doesn't matter what phase of life you're in. It doesn't matter if you're in your 20s, if you just had a baby in your perimenopause,
Starting point is 00:34:43 in your postmenopause, the basics matter from the moment you're born until the last day on earth. And so I think that often, I think also, the, a lot taking so much can I feel, for me, can feel so overwhelming. And this is the business that I'm in. And so this is where sometimes stripping everything down to the basics when it comes to your supplements, when it comes to like your food, when it comes to your sleep hygiene,
Starting point is 00:35:11 when it comes to all of these things actually allows your body to take some of that load off and regulate you, right? Because that's actually what regulates you. When we're talking about that this regulation and that burnout, when you look at the research, it's like, girl, you just go back to basics. You just allow your body to create the balance that it was like meant for, right? And you taking 17 or supplements is not going to fix that. Do sometimes it's doing less. And I just want to say that supplements are there to supplement to fill in the blanks until you are able to get what you need, right?
Starting point is 00:35:49 Like maybe you were sick or stressed or, you know, whatever, deficient. That's where they're there to kind of like or haven't been eating healthy. That's where they're there to fill in the gap to get you back to that baseline with a little bit of help. Because if you just rely on foods, it might take you forever if your digestion is shit and your cortisol is high. But it's the, you know, when you go at it being like, this is going to help me, but this is not what's going to be the magic. And you refocus on like, you know, these are, I always use this analogy of like, you know how to swim, but sometimes the current is so strong that you need floaties. Because otherwise, you just spend so much of your energy trying not
Starting point is 00:36:31 to drown. And that's what the flow. So they're. So they're. for. And then if you can, like, once the current, you know, feels less strong and once you are like, hey, I'm ready to do this without these, you can take them off. You know how to swim. Yeah. It's just that sometimes there's a really strong current and sometimes it's a fucking tsunami. Yeah. With a tornado and with a hurricane. And sharks. I don't know what it feels like to be in very menopause. But it does. And again, back to how we this conversation. It shouldn't feel like this job. Like everyone's doing this maxing stuff, right? Like they make so complicated with the whole like, it just used to be like count calories.
Starting point is 00:37:12 Now we're macros and then we're maxing and even protein. People are like, I'm trying to get more protein in, but I'm overeating everything and how do I do it? And it's all just sometimes you just need to do less. Sometimes you just need to do less. Just focus on the basics. Okay. Gosh, I really want to get out this conversation about hormones and weight loss. And I think next week, we're going to be downsizing next week and focused on that. So same routine, just making a slight tweak. So maybe we'll talk about the hormones next week. If you want to search in the app, you can pull that up. I highly suggest such a great conversation. We'll also link some conversations we've had with Dr. Alinketrejo, like absolutely fucking brilliant. But you are going to do your hormone master class,
Starting point is 00:37:55 and it's going to be in November. So if people want, which I highly suggest, invest in yourself and learn about how your fucking body work. So it'll just, it'll make you go like, oh, okay. I mean, similar to what we're doing here, except, you know, just kind of beefing up the knowledge base a little bit. You can email her. Info at doctorolinka.com. So that's info at Dr. Olinka, olinca.com. If you want to follow her on Instagram where she posts absolutely nothing, but when she does, it's brilliant. it. Listen,
Starting point is 00:38:32 all of our guests are like this. You want to know why? Because you are too busy actually helping people. You ain't got time for social media. I love that about. I love that about a million followers doesn't make you a better doctor. A million followers doesn't make you a better doctor. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:38:51 You know, I also feel like my, my own relationship with social media. has like changed legitimately. I think I follow like you and my mom in like my three friends. Like I obviously like with my burner account, you know. And so part of me also just feels like it creates so much dissonance for me to make you scroll through like 18 different posts every single day. Because honestly, I want you to focus.
Starting point is 00:39:22 If you're focusing on this and focusing on the basics, like honestly, follow Gina. and then every so often I'll just repost what she posts. But if not, I think that this is, I would rather you spend the time listening to these conversations than actually doom scrolling for 45 minutes before bed. And I don't want to feed into that. That's actually part of the reason. Well, you know, Sophia works in social media and creates a lot of our really great informational content.
Starting point is 00:39:48 And we just had a meeting yesterday. And she's like, I just, I don't know. Like, I should post. I'm like, don't post because you feel like you should. If we don't have anything valuable to stay, don't add it to the conversation. Like I literally, I didn't post anything for four days because I just didn't feel like it. My post would have been, I fucking feel depressed and overwhelmed and I feel like garbage. That's it.
Starting point is 00:40:09 Like the post was going to be, I just want to feel like garbage without also saying, but I love my job and I love my life. My family's so great. And I love my kids. Like, I just, fuck. That would have been the post. Fuck. And honestly, both of it can be true. and you don't want to be like ungrateful,
Starting point is 00:40:26 but like also you don't want to like add in toxic positivity and also you want to be real. And it's like all of these things. See, I mean, my nervous system right now getting dysregulated, just thinking about social media. So the truth is that's actually why legitimately I follow my mother, my sister, my three friends, and Gina Libby. I still am going to post.
Starting point is 00:40:48 I just, I want it to be meaningful in it. And then here's my purpose with what we do here is what is what is really, the conversation above all the surface stuff that you can get everywhere else. And it's so nuanced. And I love Denise here. I just did a bit of research on rodeola. Need to do the research. Absolutely. I searched the word dopamine and what AI said. And I immediately thought of the medication I take for restless legs. Definitely a negative contradiction. This is why I function from we are smart and we are capable and none of you are going to take something just because I said so or Dr. Link said so. You're going to go and you're going to investigate if this. And that's a crucial.
Starting point is 00:41:23 cross the board, everything you should be doing with everything. For sure. And you know, I've said it to you before too, but like, I'm a doctor, but I'm not your doctor. Yeah. And so I have, like, I have knowledge, but like, that's not knowledge about like you and you specifically. That's actually why you need to work on, like, with your team, right? And we just like have these conversations so that we raise awareness and then you know that there's these things that could be great for you or it could be great for your cousin because you can't take them. I'm just like so happy to be here and be part of this.
Starting point is 00:41:53 Well, that's why I love it about you. You and I could totally make a menopause supplement and be billionaire. It's a retired tomorrow, right? Like, do you know how many times I've been like, should I just started the like MLBX-257 and like said that it with like a GLP-1? I have morals and values. And honestly, I get so much of my parents being like, why? Why did you make an honest person out of me? I don't even sell supplements in my office. I just don't. I'm like, why? Why do I have integrity? I want to be rich. Same. Same. I'm the same. Fuck. I got, I like sleeping at night and I carry somebody. Yeah. I'm, yes, I'm the same. Fuck. Sometimes I think, why can't I just sell out? It would just be so much easier. I don't say it would be. We would be in a yacht right now. Just being like, let's not go radiola. That's in our supplements. Listen, I might do supplements one day, but it's because they would be really quality and a great price. Like, that's what it would be, which I probably not. make any money off of it anyway. Knowing you, honestly. I will tell you guys, it's so funny because the last conversation that we had, legitimately, Gina was like, do you guys want discount code?
Starting point is 00:43:04 Like, for everybody, you know? And we were like, Gina, like, stop, like giving your program out for free. And she's like, well, yeah, $10, me, 20, no, 50. Like, it was, like, half of the time we're, like, arguing with this woman to be, like, stop giving shit away for free. So she, if there's one thing that I know about you is that, like, you're so passionate of what you do and like yes but we all want to make money like you're i know like that's over here my kids remind me because they're not cheap those little buggers um you know in education and all that um i adore
Starting point is 00:43:35 you and so dr link is going to be back again we're still so early you may think oh my god i've been at this for weeks now but we're going to build on the conversation and again this is awareness and we don't want to get gate keep we want to have these free flowing conversations and just talk about like we should talk about peptides because you know people are like what are the things people are interested. What really do we want to say about them? What really do people know? Dr. Linko-Treyho, thank you. I highly suggest you reach out to her and sign up for her hormone masterclass. Like, honestly, definitely check out that. You want to get a little taste. Check out the videos that we're going to link. My team is like probably furiously trying to find those videos right now. Info at Dr.ulika.com or like I said, follow her at,
Starting point is 00:44:17 just follow her at Instagram because she's cool. Dr. dot alinka. That's it. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. me thanks everyone joining us live watching after the fact we appreciate you okay bye thank you thank you thank you
