I'm Gina Livy and welcome to the Livy Method podcast.
This is where you'll have access to all of the live streams from my 91 day weight loss program.
With a combination of daily lives, guest expert interviews and member stories,
there is something new almost every day.
Miss the morning live? Want to re-listen to one of our amazing guest experts?
Well, this is the place.
This podcast is hosted on Acast, but it's available
on all podcast platforms, including the one you're listening to right now, Spotify, Apple,
and Amazon Music. Day 73 of the program. I woke up today thinking about you all,
how far you've come, all the hard work that you're putting into the program and the process.
I had an amazing conversation with one of our members, Kim, yesterday for Spill the Tea,
down 111 pounds. I can't even tell you what that means. I'm sure to her, but also what that means
to me, that she has chosen the Libby Method and that all of you have chosen the Libby method. And yeah, that she's chose that all of you have chosen the
Libby method for your method for healthy, sustainable weight loss. It is no joke. It is so
multi layered. There's a lot to it. And that's only because I just want so bad for you to lose
your weight finally and forever. I know so many of you have been
trying for so long and it's not for lack of spending the money, the time and the energy or
doing the things that you haven't been successful because you've been successful many times. I'm
sure where you've lost that weight and then you gained it all back. And of course you feel like
you failed, but you didn't. Those diets failed you. And I don't want to be the diet that fails you. If you have an opportunity to listen or watch this Build a T, I highly suggest you do. But each and
every one of you, if you're listening right now, you are perfect and you are amazing. You are going
to reach your goal because you're already well on your way there, no matter how you feel. And even
if you want to make change, you need to see yourself as perfect.
You are showing up perfectly.
You are perfect.
You are exactly where you are and need to be.
And I know it's so easy in hindsight to reflect back, well, I could have done this.
I could have done that.
But there's probably a really good reason why you didn't do this or didn't do that. Probably whatever you had going on in your life or the fact that you're working
through some really hard things. And sometimes it takes us a minute to be like, we like, I think
people sometimes when they're showing up and they're not doing the things and they're struggling
for lack of a more defined word, it's they look at like you're not doing the things when sometimes
I really think you just need a minute to process what's happening, happening, happening mentally
and working through the stuff from that perspective, right? It's not always it's not what
you eat and when and all the supplements and all of that. Sometimes you just need a minute with
where you're at mentally, because some of you
are working some real deep stuff where you need that time. You need that time. And so that's why
whatever's happening is happening perfectly. I mean, of course, there's ways to maximize and
whatnot, but you know, that's about setting yourself up for success. But if you're looking
back and where we are now, three weeks left of the program, and
you know, looking back at it with anything other than being proud, which you really should
be, it's easier said than done.
It's easier said than done.
And this program is no joke.
The fact that you are still here now, let me get to my point.
The fact that you are still here now, you are going to be a success story.
You're absolutely going to be a success story at the end. All you got to do is just keep showing up. All you got to do is just
keep showing up. All right. I got some comments and questions. Ashley, good morning, everyone.
Coming off of a nasty four days of a stomach bug and ready to be back, baby. I was so sick. I lost
nine pounds in two days. I am sure it will level out once I start eating food again. But I'm just thankful
I can eat food again. So here's the thing with that. I'm sure some of that might have been
water weight, whatever. So sickness is like its own tweak. When you are this far into the program,
you've addressed your body's needs like detox and detox. So we are not making the body detox.
This is why I'm not a fan of detox cleanses and teas or anything like that. We are piggybacking the body's natural detox response. Metabolically, you're still releasing fat the same way,es when you are sick. Also detoxes when you,
you know, have something like food poisoning, right? And your body's detoxing all the time.
Your body never stops detoxing. So when you are sick, it's kind of like it's your own tweak. It's
such a bummer when you can't follow the program. But so when you're when you're sick, you'll either be like super hungry and craving carbs and sugar or you are, you know, not hungry
at all. And usually when you're craving carbs and sugar, your body just needs water, just you need
to drink a lot more water because it's detoxing and it wants to keep that going. Or you're not
going to be hungry at all. And this is where a lot of people are like, well, if I'm not hungry,
my body's going to feel the
need to store fat if i don't eat not not that's only when you are fully functioning and you are
starving and depriving does your body think oh my gosh there's a problem here so when you are sick
a lot of times your body will tell you it's not hungry because digestion takes so much energy
that it really just wants to focus on healing you and detoxing you. And so this is where your body will pull from your natural energy reserves or your excess
energy reserves, which is your fat reserves.
So this kind of is an opportunity for your body to release and utilize some of that fat
without that need to store it all back because you have been addressing the body's needs.
You have been addressing the body's needs. You have been addressing the
body's needs. So this is why use it to your advantage. I mean, if it was any other shitty
diet, like I would obviously, it'd sound like a horse's ass for saying that, but it's because of
what you've been doing leading up to being sick. So I wouldn't be surprised if you maintained a lot
of that weight that you did lose, because that was just like a double detox. It's like when you
have your menstrual cycle, it's like a double detox. Okay, I want to get in here. I see a comment from
Joanna Hunt, one of our valued and cherished members, who has been in the hospital forever.
She had a back surgery. She had a back surgery. And I just want to find her comment here.
There you are, Joanna.
Good morning.
Hoping I get to go home from the hospital tomorrow.
45 days and I hope tomorrow is the day.
I have learned and used the Libby Method,
personalizing the plan and drinking water while here,
even if I couldn't follow all the weeks.
It's life-changing no matter what.
Thanks for the love, crew. Oh-changing no matter what. Thanks for
the love crew. Oh my goodness. Fingers crossed for you. It's not been an easy journey for you.
It's not been an easy, you are so inspiring, Joanna, honestly. Um, the, just like the wherewithal
and the patience and the perseverance that you have had over the last 45 days. Honestly, you are, have been an inspiration
to so many. I'm following you over on Instagram and your story. Just want to send you love.
Man, my goodness. I hope you do get to go home. I hope you do get to go home.
Joanne is talking about personalizing the plan, which we are going to introduce next
week. So we are not done yet. We have two weeks left, two weeks left.
Good morning, Jennifer. First live in months. Hello,
teaching grade eight, end of year, just about did me in and definitely derailed me. It's tough
out there, right? Those pandemic kids, it's a lot that's going on. My goodness, you got to juggle so
much. You got to feel so much. You got to do so much. Love our teachers. But starting to come out
of the haze on day three of summer vacay, finally feeling, where did that go?
Where did it go? My comments. I'm using the stupid comments. Let me see if I can find it over here.
Where were we here? I have two different methods and Facebook's gone and changed a few things on
me. So it's hard for me to read my comments these days. That's ridiculous. All right, where are we?
Sorry, you guys are loving my singing that I'm doing. Just trying to find where I am.
Riveting conversation. I know. I want to get back and read that comment. All right, well,
I'll keep looking for it. There's
Carol. I did it, Gina. I reached my goal. Now just to maintain it through the summer,
all that I've learned will help me maintain it through the summer. Okay. So we're going to
outline next steps for you in the next couple of weeks. So we're going to introduce personalizing
the plan, which will be part of that. We know that some of you are ready to move on. If you
are ready to move on, If you are ready to move
on, definitely get into that maintenance group. It is highly worth it. You want to work through
those stages of maintenance. There's a whole team there to support you. We have posts every day.
It's a great place to be. So if you want information on that, head to our website.
But we're going to tell you everything that you need to know about maintenance. So you don't have
to join the maintenance group in order to know what you need to know about maintenance. We're
going to roll it out for you in the last couple of weeks of the program. Some of you still looking
to reach your goals. So we're going to make sure that you know everything that you need to know
about reaching your goals for those of you who are still looking to lose. So don't stress about
that. Ideally, what you want to do is continue to show up throughout the next couple of weeks. And just kind of when we have
those conversations, we will be there to have those conversations with you. So just a heads up
on that. We will be there. We got you. We got you. But congratulations, Carol. I'm reaching your goal.
My goodness. Thinking about Brenda. Yes. If you guys missed it, our other, um, we have so many amazing and cherished members, but Brenda Huxley had her brain tumor removed yesterday and we hear that all went well,
all went well, uh, with her. So we are sending her lots of love, sending her lots of love.
The next couple of days, obviously really super important, but, um, there's a comment, but, uh,
so far so good. So far so good. Okay. Back to you, Jennifer. Okay. I'm here. I am. Good morning.
First live in months, teaching grade eight, the end of the year. Yes. Finally feeling like I can
focus on me again. Stress is a real issue for me. Rude teenage boys. Oh my God, I bet. I have one. And my son is lovely. But sometimes I'm like,
are you? What the? Who? What? And when it's your job, so hard to work around, I get you. It gets
a lot, man. It's a lot dealing with kids. We love them, but man, my goodness. So glad though,
that I've learned so much here to even feel my body coming down from edge, drinking water, eating all my meals and laying a sunbeam to get back on track.
So glad this program is always here to pick me up again.
So you know what is so important about this?
I hope you have an amazing summer and get that down to equal and opposite reaction,
right?
You need that decompressing.
You need that downtime.
It's like me.
So in the summertime, I got to take some time
off because I just love what I do. I go like zero to a hundred when we're in the groups and it brings
me so much joy. I honestly, I'm so grateful I get to do what I do, but I put a lot of passion and a
lot of care and a lot of love into the program and our members. I actually really do care about you reaching your goals.
And so when people are having a hard time, sometimes I don't sleep at night. I wake and I'll
be like, okay, what's going on with this person? What is it? What can I share? This is why sometimes
when you post your 20 questions and if I'm having the conversation with you and there's some back
and forth and you get all those questions, I don't just like respond right away. Sometimes like I take time and I'll be
like, okay, I'll get back to you on this because I want to kind of sit with it and feel with it.
So that's a lot when you actually care about the people that you are working for and working with
and helping out. So you need that downtime. But more than that, I have learned. So that was my
old way of handling it. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go crash and just like take that downtime.
But it's so important to make sure that you're building that in along the way.
So I would just, I would, I would just, my ask for you would be when you have a minute
and when you have the time is go back and reflect on the year.
And is there ways that you can build in more you time along
the way? Are there ways that you can kind of help manage that stress along the way and looking back?
Because when you're in it, you're not really, you're just kind of survival mode, trying to
get through it, get it done, all of that. But is there ways that you can find more time for yourself
during the year? Right? Kind of like when we indulge and then we go back and we reflect,
what if I would have done this? What if I would have made that choice? How would I feel? And kind
of, kind of like set yourself up for success next year. Cause probably it's going to be the same
thing over again. And it's great. We always start like my first program of September, my makeup's
done, my hair's done, look good. I'm whatever. By the time I roll around three programs later, I'm like, yo, what's up? I'm here. How's it going? No makeup, just showing up, you know? Um, but I have learned
a lot. And the only reason I'm sharing this is because I've learned a lot about this this year
is really, um, capacity. I've learned compassion is my new thing. And it's not just me time. It's really being compassionate and taking the time that I actually need.
So, Joanna, Joanna, good morning.
Not sure why I can never get on the morning lives until it's been about five minutes on
the app or Facebook.
Oh, well, I will just continue to be a little late to the party.
So I have talked about this so many times, but you probably missed it.
All you have to do to go and find them starting live
is to be in the photo section of the Facebook support group. If you are looking on your feed
or you're waiting for a notification, you're not going to find it. If you are using the app,
a real person has to find the app, find it playing and then go put it in the app. It's
the only way to do it. It does give you the luxury of linking directly, but it's not automatic process.
So that's why it will always have a delay. Plus Facebook has a delay. Now, where did I post this
information? It's in the welcome guide that I swear nobody reads because I know you guys just
want to get to doing your stuff and getting in the group. But there is a whole welcome guide that
talks about how to navigate the Facebook page itself and to find the live. So just go straight into the photo
section. And that's how I find it. So when I go live, there's a delay. I will start through
Facebook and then I have to go into my iPad and then go into the photo section and then I'll see
it playing there. So that's the quickest way to find out. But listen, even if you're late to the party, you are still
at the party. You're still in the party. Hi, Pollyann. Good morning. These last days of the
program are bittersweet. Six programs completed and off to maintenance. I will miss the daily
live. So you're going to love
maintenance. You're going to love maintenance. You want to move on. You've reached your goal.
It's time to go. Listen, I know for so many reasons, people love to stick around and be
part of the conversation. I'm actually working on a third group as well. It's because there's
lose your weight, maintain your weight. And then what are we going to do? How are we all going to
connect once we're all done?
So I'm working on a third group where we can stay part of the community, where we can talk about what we're going to do now, now that we're no longer looking to lose our weight.
I totally get this.
There is such a great vibe over in the maintenance group.
We have amazing conversations.
I do go live over in the maintenance group as well.
We have some great conversations. We do fun give over in the maintenance group as well. We have some great
conversations. We do fun giveaways. We have great guests. It's not the daily lives, but whether
you're going on to maintenance or in the summertime. So I think a big part of your success,
all of you, is the routine. We know this. The routine of getting up in the morning,
having that lemon water, making your breakfast, popping into the group, watching up in the morning, having that lemon water, you know, making your breakfast,
you know, popping into the group, watching the check-in, watching the lives. It's that you have
set yourself up for success. You've created this new routine for yourself. So a lot of people do
miss it. They miss it when they go. There is a check-in video. Odette has a check-in video over
in the maintenance group, but people do miss the routine.
And so the summer is a great opportunity to continue a new routine.
So you don't just want to like replace that time.
Sorry, I'm just, Brenda Huxley is kind of, she's, Brenda Huxley in the house.
Replace that time with something else.
So go for a walk.
You can download and listen to old podcasts, right?
We have our Living Method podcast.
We also have our Weigh In podcast,
but we're going to continue to work on throughout the summer.
So there's that.
So you want to take, you don't just want to stop your routine.
You want to switch out the things that you,
if you no longer have a check-in video to watch or no longer have a live to listen to, this is maybe where you go
for a walk and you download or do something else, right? It's a good opportunity to switch that out,
switch out those lives. Oh my God, these comments are coming so fast. I can't keep up. Where is
Brenda? I got to go back down and find Brenda. Brenda Huxley, Brenda Huxley. Where are you, Brenda?
There we go. Um, sorry, you guys, I gotta get used to this new, this cannot continue.
This cannot continue. This new format that is going on. This is Facebook. Tony was
trying to fix it for me this morning. Brenda Huxley, good morning all. It's bothering me for
a sec. Pretty from step down at the hospital. Everything went well. Hopefully be back with
you soon. Thanks for all the love and support. Not sure what that means, but you just had brain surgery yesterday.
I can't believe you're here, Brenda.
My goodness.
I'm so glad that you're joining us today.
I'm sending you so much love.
Oh, my goodness.
Oh, my goodness. Man, you are badass, Brenda.
You are so badass, Brenda.
Brenda's joining us live this morning.
I know. Badass Brenda, right? Badass Brenda. Brenda's joining us live this morning. I know.
Badass Brenda, right?
Badass Brenda.
My goodness.
Hi, Helen.
Each program, I set 10-pound goal, have only reached one in the first program.
Six pounds away from this one, not stressing.
16 away from Folly and Forever.
Helen, I adore you. I adore your
commitment. I adore your passion. I adore your perseverance. I adore you. I do want to point out
because I think it's so important how six programs of prioritizing yourself, eating those nutrient
rich foods, addressing your body's needs, like that is just honestly, that is so huge to be
able to do that and not have that scale be doing what you want that scale to do. I no doubt you've
seen the non-scale victories. I know you've listened to all the conversations. I know you
are on your way to figuring out what's going on. I just want to say that I see you and I appreciate
you and I have so much mad
respect for you. Honestly, so much mad respect for you. So much bad respect for you. Okay. So
let's talk about tomorrow. Dr. Tam is going to join us. So Dr. Tam is my chiropractor. I,
when I was a couple of years ago, well, let's take it back. So yeah, a few years ago, my son
was really sick and in the
hospital and he lost a ton of weight. And when he got out of the hospital, he was like all,
cause he's kind of tall. It was all hunched over cause he'd be lying in a hospital bed for like a
month and he was just like a mess. And so I took him to go see Dr. Tam and Dr. Tam treated him,
you know, while he was just after he got out of the hospital and, you
know, on his way to recovery. And we were talking about how his body was changing. And then I was
in the hospital a few years back and I lost a ton of weight and my body, same thing, all broken down
and whatever. And this got me really thinking as through my conversations with Dr. Tam, okay,
I recognize that I was sick and my
son was sick, but still the kind of impact that losing weight has on your body. And I started
talking to him about people losing weight and people losing like a lot of weight and how there
is this concept that if you lose a lot of weight, it's just so much easier on your joints and it's
so healthy for you. And it is, it is. But when we talk about the body
adjusting and to solidifying to your new weight, it's so much more than that. It is so healthy in
a lot of ways, but a lot of people, once they've lost the weight, actually feel like they feel
their back, they feel their neck, they feel their knees. They actually sometimes like feel it more.
And when they perceive to be a negative feeling or like, you know, they actually sometimes like feel it more. And when they perceive to be
a negative feeling or like, you know, they're dealing with the strains and issues. And that's
because your body really is changing the way you walk, the way you sit, the way you move through
life. And so we're going to talk to him about that. Now you think he's a chiropractor, he's
going to be talking about cracking your back, not so much. He also has spent a lot of time helping a lot of people trying to get healthy.
And when I am stressing, he knows when I go see him and I've had a stressful week, he's
like, okay, obviously what's going on.
I can feel it because we hold that in our body.
So whether we're stressed at work or we're dealing with something emotional, there is
a lot going on in our bodies.
And from someone who is constantly seeing people and putting their hands on people and talking with people and
dealing with people, he's learned a lot. And I always adore my conversations with Dr. Tam.
So he's going to be back joining me tomorrow. We're also not done. Our conversations, Dr.
Sean Rice is going to be here in the next couple of weeks. He's a plastic surgeon.
And we're going to talk to him about skin care. We're going to talk to him. What can we do about those little crepey lines, our loose skin? We have a very frank conversation with him. We talked to
him about liposuction. We talked to him about those fat melting machines. We're going to talk
to him about a variety of different things. We're so lucky to have him. Plus he's just a really awesome guy. So we're going to talk about him. We have a great panel.
We have a fun panel. So we're going to bring together Dr. Dina, Dr. Kara and Dr. Alinka.
And we're going to do a fun little panel in the next couple of weeks. We got a lot still going on.
I know some of you have some questions. I hear, I see them in the comments here
about the end of the program. So what's going to happen at the end of the program is
we're going to make sure you are super clear on next steps. We're not done yet, but I will talk
about this today because I see some of you out. If you're looking for flexible workouts,
Peloton's got you covered. Summer runs or playoff season meditations whatever your vibe peloton has thousands of
classes built to push you we know how life goes new father new routines new locations what matters
is that you have something there to adapt with you whether you need a challenge or rest and peloton
has everything you need whenever you need it find your push find. Find your power. Peloton. Visit Peloton at onepeloton.ca.
We're going to make sure you're super clear on next steps. I don't like talking about maintenance
until we're there. I don't like talking about the end of the program until we're there, but I know
some of you are. I just want to, you are going away. You want to make sure you know what's going
on. So you will retain access to the Facebook support group. So even
though on the last day, I stopped going live, we stopped posting, we stopped answering questions,
you will have access to the Facebook support group. So you will still be able to watch any
of the videos, read any of the posts. So you'll still have access to that. That is really helpful
for those of you who are working behind in the program. Now, we obviously won't be there to help answer your questions, but you
will have access to the app as well. The Livi AI stops working after, I think, the first week,
the week that we're done the program. That obviously comes with the program and it ends
when the program ends, but you will have the search feature in the app that if you ask a question in the app,
it will pull up all the information that you need, which is also really effective.
So the app will keep taking you through your 91-day journey.
So for those of you who are joining us, you're on day 73 and you finish on the final day.
When you wake up the next day, your app will turn into a general
tracker. Those of you who are working behind will be able to finish out the 91 days of your program.
So the app turns into a general tracker once you are done the 91 days. So this is where you can
still track your foods, your fluids, your movements, all of that. It just doesn't guide
you through the program and the process. So that's the difference with it. So you'll still have access to the app. And then for those of you who signed
up for our fall program, when you register for the fall program in the app, right, your countdown
will start and then you can just do general tracking throughout the summer. And then when
the program starts, the new program in the app will start.
We are, in the past, we've done a Bridging the Gap group.
We are considering doing a Bridging the Gap group.
We're just trying to figure out if we have team, who we have on our team to manage.
I'm also thinking of doing a bit of a summer session.
Now it will not be going live every day.
Will not be me checking in.
I will, I'm thinking of going live.
Like normally I do take some downtime in the summer, but I'm thinking of doing something a little different. Um, so I
might still be going live on our, we're, I'm working on that. We have a meeting today about
it. So I'll have more information about if we're going to be offering anything for the summertime.
So I will let you know, um, regardless though, we'll make sure that you guys are set up for success throughout the summer. Some of you also have questions about the
hormone program that Dr. Link and I are working on. I'm so excited. So it's going to be an add-on.
You will need to purchase it, obviously. So it's going to run alongside of the fall program.
I'm going to have Dr. Link on and we'll talk about it more throughout the summer, but we're going to do hormones 101, focus on perimenopause,
menopause, postmenopause as well. So just kind of, it's digging deeper into and going down the
rabbit hole of conversations that we can't have in the weight loss program because literally we
could talk about it all day, every day. So I'm trying to figure out
what we're doing there and how's that's going to work, but just to be fully transparent, that's
where I'm at. We will make sure that we let you know, we'll send out, we're going to send out
emails. We're going to make sure that you guys are super confident on next steps that, um, if we,
uh, when we get this hormone, um, program up and running, uh, we'll let you guys know when you can
register and whatnot. Will there be about a
thousand people doing 30 squats during a segment? So Dr. Tim has this thing. If you ask him, what
is the most important movement that you can do? He says squats. He says you should be able,
your goal should be able to do 30 squats a day, 30 squats a day. Use those big muscles in your
legs. Obviously some people are
restricted in their movements. No doubt he's going to mention that, but we have this little thing
with Dr. Tam where we like to do our squats along with him, which is super fun, which is super fun.
All right. I see some more questions. Someone was asking about the maintenance group. So the
maintenance group runs year long. So how the maintenance group works right now is that you purchase the maintenance group.
It's $75 and you get in there.
There's a whole maintenance guide and there is a team of people there to help you through
your maintenance journey.
And then we have like daily posts, but daily posts that aren't like, it's not guiding you
through the program and the process necessarily.
You pay the price once and you get in there for as long as you need it. So you don't have to keep
signing up and signing up and signing up, signing up. So you pay $75 and once you're in, you're in.
That's how it works right now. Now, Odette and I are working on a maintenance program. So right
now, in order to solidify your weight, people are doing another round of the program. And so there's four stages to the Libby method. There's lose your weight, there's maintain
your, there's solidify your weight, right? Putting time into helping your body adjust to your new
weight, which you want to put in at least 12 weeks. Then there's maintaining your weight. This
is sort of where you're getting used to what maintenance looks like and feels like to you,
kind of testing the waters, you know, indulging here or there, utilizing back on track, transitioning into just moving on with your life, waking up,
looking good, feeling good, being mindful, being in tune to the choices that you're making.
Now, so you lose your weight, as many programs as you need. You put at least one program or 12
weeks of time into solidifying your weight. And then the maintenance, testing the waters can be
a few weeks for some people or a year for someone else. And then the maintenance, testing the waters can be a few weeks for some people or
a year for someone else. And then obviously moving on is with the rest of your life.
So we have a lot of people who are redoing the program in order to solidify their weight. They're
no longer looking to move the dial on the scale, but they're still working through issues and
associations and trying to get healthy and level up. Odette and I have been working on a maintenance
program proper
where you will have done the weight loss program
and then you will do the maintenance program,
which you will use the app and it will guide you through
just like the weight loss program,
but it's all geared towards maintenance.
And so we don't have that done yet,
but you don't have to wait.
So if you purchase, anyone who's purchased the maintenance group,
once we have that maintenance program up and running, which we're looking to do in the fall, we will give you access to that.
So you won't have to purchase it again.
We'll give you access to that.
So that's how that's going to work.
That's how that is going to work.
There's Helen back.
I spoke to an old friend on the street yesterday.
He said he didn't recognize me, but didn't know why.
My response was 40 pounds will do it, right? Right? I know. It's plus your
body changing, plus your body is changing. Hi, Susan. Looking forward to Dr. Tam. 68 years old,
from ages 12 to 60, was 5'8", eight years of spinal stenosis, herniated disc, yes, an L4, L5,
disintegrated disc, C4, 5, and 6. Now at the
doctor's office, I stand under 5'3". I'm in the 5'2 range. Oh my God, I no longer can look at friends
who are at the same height as me. Yeah, in the eye. Well, think about this too. I mean, obviously,
you've been through a lot, but this is where, you know, our posture is really important. The way we
walk is really important. And when you go and you lose a lot of weight, it changes all of that.
And it's just one aspect and element of weight loss that nobody really talks
about. I was reading about BMI and how it is an accurate way, how it isn't an accurate way to
measure, but a quick way for practitioners to use. I talked about having a slightly higher BMI,
low end of overweight for senior 65 and older, stating that it is healthier for several reasons.
That made a lot of sense. It is a work in progress for women in their 60s and above to understand
that we can look and feel great even if our scale numbers are finally and forever seem strange.
Setting a goal weight can be confusing. I only have about four pounds to go before I met the
goal I set in September. Also, that apron belly sucks, but I just need to accept it.
So there's a lot to unpack here, Karen. Let's talk about this. So BMI is like, so when we were at the Canadian obesity summit,
even the brightest minds in obesity research just think it's garbage. They do not agree with BMI at
all, at all. Where you're, where you store your belly fat is really important if you're really
starting at your midsection, cause that can indicate visceral fat, right? So that is something to be mindful of. That hip to waist ratio is
really way more important than BMI. So BMI, I believe, was developed for men going into the war,
I think that is the story. And so it really isn't relevant. So I wouldn't really take much
stock in it. It's also this concept that you can
be like, you can be like, you know, you can be super fit and strong and have a high BMI.
It doesn't mean that you, and you can also be really have a low BMI and be really skinny.
Doesn't mean that one person is necessarily healthy than the other. It's sort of that debate.
It's really about, it's not even the fat that you're carrying. It's where you're carrying fats, uh, because there's this whole thing that you
can't, if you carry excess fat, you can't be healthy because every extra pound of fat is
healthy, is unhealthy for you, which is hard on the body. Um, but that doesn't necessarily
dictate your state of healthiness, you know? Um, goal weight is confusing though. This is where I
want to talk to you about, because this is a big conversation that we
have in the maintenance group because people like what happened is they will reach their
goal that they set and then they will go into maintenance.
And after they've been in maintenance for a while, they'll be like, Hey, you know what?
I think I want to go for more weight.
I think I want to lose more weight, which you are only you are living in your body and
you know, so once people had time to be at
that weight, they come to this realization that maybe they want to lose more. So this happens a
lot. People will go into the maintenance, they'll maintain their weight, and they'll be like, you
know what? I'm going to do another program. I'm going to go for more weight. Nothing wrong with
that. Nothing wrong with that. We have also conversations like, how do you know when you've
reached your goal? Because a lot of people just go by a goal, a number, which is just a number, right?
I think in the conversations that I've had with people, it's really about how someone
feels.
Your goal weight is a feeling.
It is not a number on the scale.
And so there's nothing wrong with going for more if you want to go for more.
And on the other side of that, we have a lot of people who will not like be 20 pounds away from their goal and realize they feel great. So maybe their
goal was 140, they hit 160. And they're like, I feel amazing. I feel great. I love the way I look.
I love the way I feel. I'm good. A lot of people will chase a number because they've always just
chased a number. That's the number they've always chased without actually feeling how they feel or taking a minute with it and assessing
like, okay, like how do I actually feel rather than it just being like trying to hit a number,
hit a number, hit a number, right? So the goal weight is it's an interesting conversation. It's
very individual, sort of how do you know when you reached your goal? How do you know when you're
done losing weight, right? Would it work to have, would it work to have the maintenance group connected to
the app? I'm in the group, but I haven't really been good about checking posts or listening to
the lives. So when we have the maintenance group in the app, when maintenance program in the app,
when that's ready, you will only be able to do one or the other. So it will be one of those
things that when you are done the weight loss program, then you would do the maintenance program. Now, the way it works
right now is that if you are in the weight loss group and doing the weight loss program through
the app, you can also join the maintenance group. So if you want to pop over to the maintenance
group on Facebook, you can listen to some of the conversations and have an idea of what's going on. We have a lot of people who have
done that. They've purchased the maintenance group, even though they're not ready for maintenance,
but they still, they listen to the conversations. They understand the conversation that we're
having. It's kind of like a heads up. This is how I describe it. So if you're doing the weight loss
program, you're on the road to Disneyland, right?
You're driving, you're on the road. And being part of the maintenance group and knowing what's going
on in there and listening to some of those conversations is like having a map to the park.
So it's like if you're driving to Disneyland, you have a map of the park and you're planning
out what you're going to do, where you're going to go when you get there. And that's kind of like
when you have access to the maintenance group, it's kind of like having the map to the park. You are listening on conversations.
It's kind of like, it's kind of like if you're working behind in the group and you're listening
to the current lives and you hear what people are talking about. So there absolutely can be
a benefit. So if you have purchased the maintenance program and you're sitting on it, you can
absolutely join the group and just kind of,
you know, go in and out, see what's going on over there.
Hi, Ruth. Good morning. I have a question about feelings of this isn't going to last if
it hasn't been hard. Yeah, I hear you. I have feelings that I will wake up with the weight
will be back. Don't find this hard to do. I preface that I will wake up with the weight will be back.
Don't find this hard to do. I preface that I'm 68 years old and I've struggled with weight loss
since I don't know how old. My earliest diet was when I was 13 years old and taken to a doctor.
I would like to know if others have the same thought. I can tell you that they can. I can
tell you that they can. And everyone, please find, if that's you, find Ruth's comment here and share your experience.
So think about this, right? You've been dieting since you were 13 years old, and no doubt you have been successful.
And you have lost that weight, but you have gained it back many times.
And so the first thing that is so important for you to understand is it wasn't you.
Those diets were never designed for sustainable
weight loss. The counting, the weighing, the measuring, that's something outside of yourself,
that's not going to help you. The forcing your body to burn fat, starving and depriving it,
restricting it, so you're forcing it to utilize fat reserves just reinforces the need for your
body to store fat. Your body is
so smart, it catches on to that. And then it creates a super high set point so that even if
you lose that weight, it just goes right back every single time. And so the Libby method is
about addressing that set point. It's about giving the body what it needs so it no longer feels that
need to store fat after years and years of dieting. Plus with the Libby method, you are working through issues and associations.
We approach weight loss from a variety of different ways.
So you really are changing.
The Libby method is about rewiring how your body has come and learned to function and
also rewiring your brain and how it has learned and come to function.
And so you've gone and lost your weight in a way that is going to make it a lot easier
for you to maintain at the end.
There are three reasons why people gain weight back.
One, they don't put time into maintenance.
This is why you have got to put time into solidifying your weight.
So follow through on the maintenance program when we have it, when you're ready for it,
or get into the maintenance group and really understand what you need to do with maintenance.
The second is situational change. So this is not adapting to what's happening in your life. You got a new job, you're, you, you move, you are dealing with more
stress. Like there's something happening in your life. You just can't fall back into old habits.
You have to help your body manage that stress. You have to adapt your routine. You have to,
you have to, you have
to, you have to be mindful, which brings me to the third, which is being mindful. You have learned a
lot and you have created a lifestyle that is going to sustain your new weight. And so you just can't
go back to the way you're living before. You can't go back into old habits. You probably will fall
back into old habits. You'll recognize that and you'll get back on track. Um, and so this is sort
of like taking everything that you've learned and implementing it moving forward. And it's not
hard. It's not a lot of work. But those are three main reasons. So we're actually going to do a post
to tell you not what to gain, how not to gain your weight back. But you know, more than that,
that that feeling and being afraid is real. And so that is where that third stage of maintenance.
So there's lose your weight, there's solidify your weight, and then the maintenance testing
the waters.
It's also learning to trust.
It's learning to trust what maintenance looks like and feels like to you.
So there is a trust piece that a lot of people really struggle with because you've been here
before.
You've done this before, but you haven't done this program before. So now you're a little nervous. And so we have had people do the Libby
Method and they've gained weight back and always because they didn't put time into solidifying
or situational, something happened in their lives, you know, and they weren't mindful.
And this is where they come back because they recognize that. And I love that.
So there is still work to be done once you are done losing your weight. And so
that's really important. This is why I'm saying you want to get into that maintenance group,
even just to have the support and the team there. Like maintenance is really where some people will
have to put in the work. I also do want to say at 68 years old, once we've had our members go
through our maintenance program, our older members, you
ask them if they feel confident.
Here's a stat for you because Ruth and her team at the University of Ottawa are studying
the living method.
98% of members who go through our maintenance group are confident that they will be able
to maintain and sustain their weight 98%.
And so when Ruth interviews our members, our members who are older are like, Oh, yeah,
I'm 100% confident I'm going to keep this weight off. Because you've been through so much,
you know what works, you now can look back and know what didn't work, right? And it's because you are now 68 years old and you have been through the program that you're
going to be like, yeah, I know better now. I know better. I know better. Because that's the problem
with diets. They didn't tell us. We just put our faith in them. They sucked. We followed. We did
them. And now you know the truth behind weight loss and being able to maintain
and sustain your weight. I do want to speak to you finding it easy. So if you're following along
in our groups, I talk a lot about struggling. We talk a lot about, you know, I address a lot of
people who are having a hard time. I tend to fixate and focus on people who are having a harder time.
But I can tell you, I mean, 93% of people who do the program lose
weight and lose weight. Most people do. There are some people who struggle, obviously, and I tend to
fixate because I want to help every single person. But most people at the end of the program will say
that was so easy. That was so easy. Now, it's easy to say that in hindsight, not recognizing the days that
you're showing up and maybe struggling a little bit more for lack of definition. Um, but most
people do. So don't be afraid of the fact that you found it really easy. Um, if I tend to talk
about how it's so hard for some people, because the reality is, is that most people do find it
really easy. Most people just follow, do what I say. They just do the things that they need to do. They work through the stuff that they need to work through
because, you know, especially when it comes to the program, our amazing community is made up of such
a small percent of people. Everyone is part of it, but a small percent of people who are actually
vocal, who are sharing like you, asking a question, commenting and all of that. And we're so grateful. I'm so
grateful because if you guys didn't show up every day, I don't have no one to talk to.
I don't really just be up here rambling to myself. And I really feel like we are having
conversations. So, you know, that's sort of, but that's a small percent, small percentage. So the
small percentage of the people are actually sharing their difficulties with the journey
when the majority of people who are actually find the living method to be quite easy to follow. So don't, we got you.
Here's what I have to say. Here's what I suggest you make sure you do when you are ready to go
into maintenance, go into the maintenance group or do the program. If we have that available to
you, we have a whole team of people there who are going to help answer questions that you have
and make sure you have the support that you need after you are done losing your weight.
Like losing your weight is one thing we want to go into maintaining and sustaining our
weight. That that's where we want to go. That is where we want to go. I'm in the maintenance group.
Hi, Elizabeth, as well as in this one and registered for the fall. I don't know how to
access maintenance group chats. I don't know when they are, when can they find that information? So
go into the maintenance group and the team over there will help advise you of everything that you need to know. So there is a welcome guide in the
maintenance group. You probably just need to go into the guides and find it. There's a whole
maintenance section over there. And then, so every Monday Odette does a poster. So we don't have the
check-ins like Odette does do check-ins. There's a poster that tells you what's going on each week.
So you can pop into the group on Monday and then find that. Like I go live Mondays at 12. We have a weigh-in Wednesday conversation at four. So go
into the maintenance group and they'll tell you, they'll get you set up and they'll, we have a
whole team of amazing people over there. So they'll help you. When I was eight, my doctor told me that
I was a pretty girl, but if I lost 20 pounds, I'd be beautiful. I spent the next 55 years trying to lose and maintain my weight. I have never had success until now. 35 pounds down and 45 to go. Hi, Melody.
Right? Yeah. I mean, this is why it's so much more, right? And first of all, same goes with you.
You have done, we just are at this really, at this time in the diet industry where people are ready for the
Libby Method, which really, so you have to imagine. So I have done a lot of, people were not ready for
my program. First of all, I busted it out as a lifestyle program and people were not like 25
years ago. It's the same program, same program I've been doing with clients I'm offering now to
everyone en masse.
And no one wanted to buy it because it was a lifestyle program. I said, it's a lifestyle program. And this was like, lifestyle was not a word. Like if you go back 30 years,
people were not talking about lifestyle. I remember I was working in TV and I worked
with Moses Neimer. So some of you are my age and around Toronto, you know, Moses Neimer, City TV. And I remember I pitched him the show,
and I said, I want to do a lifestyle show. And he's like, a what? I said, I want to do a lifestyle
show. I like exercise and wellness and whatever. And he's like, what is lifestyle? Like, what even
is lifestyle? Now, of course, they have like the, you know, one network, they have all these
lifestyle channels. But back then, lifestyle wasn't a thing. And I was a little ahead of my time. Toot toot. And, you know, I was talking
about like water. So I used to have a conversation, obviously telling people to drink, you know,
three, three, three and a half liters of water. Oh my God. People are like, you're killing people.
People are going to die. You can't drink that much water. And of course now, many years later,
the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, like we all know you need 2.7 to three and a half liters of water. Like now I don't have that conversation with
anybody anymore because it's just out there. So a lot of these conversations, insulin, you just
talk a lot about insulin. And I stopped talking about it because people kept challenging me on
it. And now everyone's talking about it. And so the people were just not ready for the Libby
Method. They were just like not ready.
Even self-love.
So there was a moment like my first couple groups, I never talked about self-love.
Like I'm a Reiki master.
I'm totally into energy.
I'm into like keeping your energy directed at yourself.
I'm a big believer, mind-body connection, all of that.
Big believer in prioritizing yourself and self-love.
I never talked about it in my first few groups because people were not ready for it. They just needed to know that they were going to be able to lose
weight. They just want to talk about food and that's it. So even the living method and the
conversations that we're having with our guests have been a real evolution, a real evolution.
So it's not just like me and what I want to talk about, my guests talk about. It's been what's
been happening all around, all around, all around. My brain is not working today. I don't know what's the heat, what's going on.
Not my best day, but thanks for sticking around with me all along.
And so now you're able to kind of piece together what you're seeing out there and hearing out
there and, you know, sort of what's happening with the program and the process, you know,
it's a lot different than any of the diets that you have done.
And so I just, the reason why I wanted to really express that is really just reinforce the fact
that if you have done other diets
and not been successful at maintaining your weight,
it's just the way that they were designed.
Those diets were never designed
for you to maintain and sustain your weight.
This is why Weight Watchers has a lifetime membership.
They sit around and they talk about member retention.
How can we get people to stick
around and stick with us? Well, they know you're going to gain your weight back, which is why
they've never had a maintenance program before. Why doesn't anyone have a maintenance program?
Now they have a GLP-1 maintenance program, but never had a weight loss maintenance program. Like,
come on. You know what I'm saying? So I know that for so many reasons, you guys are unsure about
that, but this is why you have to recognize that you've lost your weight in a different way.
All the work that you've done, which is why it's so important to take time along the way
and really reflect on that.
And then also get into that maintenance group.
Okay.
I think I'm going to, I'm 67 and I've dieted forever, but now realize how great Gina is.
And I've never felt so great and energetic.
Yeah.
Well, the work that
you've done, right? It's all you. You put the work into that. And this is where you're getting
that realization. This way, it's so important, everyone, to reflect, right? We are not done yet,
but really reflect on your journey and what you have done. It's so much more than just counting,
weighing, measuring, starving, depriving. Like those diets, diets may seem that they were so much harder, but in all the
wrong ways, in all the wrong ways, you know, harder, but all the wrong ways. I am still
struggling to get the scale moving. Um, I'm still struggling to get the scale moving. Have you had
people that only lost a bit in the first group? Okay. Can I be honest? Can I be honest? We talk about this all the time. So often we talk about this. Um, we talk about how it's so normal for reasons why
your weight might be slower to move. Um, Kim, for example, are the Kim who, um, my manager of the
group, she, you know, she had a hard time with her first couple of programs. It's so normal that we
talk about it a lot. And so we also talk about four
reasons why your weight might be slower to move. So this is where you've got to, you have access
to the Facebook support group, make sure you reach out. So have you posted your 20 questions,
right? Have you posted your 20 questions? Um, like actually gone through them? Not like, yes,
no, yes, no, yes, no. Like reached out and asked
for help because we have a team of amazing people here who will like go to the ends of the earth to
help you figure this out. But you've got to like give us the information. You've got to also watch
that four main reasons why your weight might be slower to move, right? Hormones, inflammation,
gut issues, food sensitivities. Like it is so normal for people to have not lost the program.
So that's the 93% of people do lose weight doing the program, but there are people who don't lose.
And we also want to normalize that as well. But we also want to figure out what's going on there.
So please, please, please, please reach out. Let us know. Let us know what's going on
and maybe we can help. Here's Linda. That's hard to go through the 20 questions. Same thing. I lose
in small amounts, even my first group. So yeah, so this is really normal. This is really normal.
There's a couple of things we need to normalize. We need to normalize. It's normal for some people
to not lose anything at all in their first program, but we've seen this so often and then
they come back and they reach their goals. We've seen someone lose a lot of weight in their first
program, not lose any weight in their second program, but that's so normal because of life,
where their body's at, solidifying their weight. We need to normalize fluctuations on the scale.
That's a big one. We need to normalize and recognize what's going on in our life while
we're trying to lose our weight. Man, there's so many things that we need to normalize around here, you know, when it comes to weight loss. So don't worry, Linda,
we got you. Just reach out, give us some more information. We're happy to help you with that.
All right, I do got to get going. I found the first three rounds easy. I was committed and
really wanted change. Programs four, five, and six, I was here, but not really here. Program
seven and eight, I've been coasting, listening, but not always doing.
I need the fire and follow through again. I feel so well now. I'm out all the time. I have very little pain. Life is good. The fire needs stoking to get me going. Okay. I was going to go, but I
got it. I'm just going to stick around for this. Let me readjust. Okay. I love this. So first of
all, you don't need fire. You don't need fucking fire. You don't need fire.
You don't need fucking, if you've been here for nine groups, you don't need fucking fire.
You don't need fire. You are the fire. You are the fire. Okay. It's really easy to do when you're
motivated, right? When you're motivated, when you got a lot of weight to lose, but listen to what
you just said. I feel so well now. I'm out all the time, I have very little pain, life is good, right? Great. So that's not like you're happy,
and you're content, just like a happy, content body isn't motivated to release fat.
Neither are you, you feel amazing. That's great. I think what you need here is you need to change
your why. Because you feel great. You feel amazing.
Probably your why that you started with was to get you where you are now, and you've reached that.
There's also that middle part, right? Like the seven, eight, and nine have been coasting.
So at some point, you're just like, all right, I'm doing this. This is great. There's no downside
to that. There's no downside to that. You're coasting. You're coasting. You're not coasting.
You're doing the living method. Even if you're just half-assing it, you're doing so much prioritizing yourself showing up being mindful doing all the
things you know what I mean? Even if you're not doing all the things, even just doing some of
the things is still doing a lot of things. So what I think you need to do is that you don't
need to find the fire, you need to find a new why. Who is the Suzanne you are now? Stop, take a
minute. Who are you now? Where do you want to go?
Who do you want to be? What do you want in your life? Is there more? Because also there's nothing
wrong with being really happy with where you are at. Maybe you're done. Maybe you're like,
I'm happy here. I feel amazing. This is great. But if you are not and you say to yourself,
okay, how would I feel? Say this with me right now if you're still listening, because I don't
know. I'm going on forever and ever and ever. I was only going on for a half hour today, but here I am.
Hot mess that I am.
How would you feel if you stopped now and you just lived your life with where you're
at, right?
And you might be like, oh, I feel content.
I could do that.
And how would you feel if you went for more?
Oh, yeah.
Well, I'm kind of like, I'm okay, but I kind of like to go for more.
If you want to go for more, you have to be like, okay, why do I want more? What is that going to
look like? What is it going to feel like? Right? Because what you can't do, and this is might be
where you are at. You might just be in that nowhere zone. You're in between. You want to
lose, but you're happy. You want to lose, but you're happy, right? So this is
where you have to decide, do I want to lose more? And why do I want to lose more? What's that going
to look like? What's that going to feel like? That's where you're motivated because if you're
sitting around just kind of looking for that spark or that thing or whatever, it's not going to come.
You're just going to be a no man's zone forever. That's why I'm saying you are the fire. It is
within you to decide what you want to do. Are you happy and content where you are?
Now, the other part of this is, are you happy and content where you are right now?
Because you might just be happy where you're at right now. You might just be like, you know what,
like I put a year into losing my weight. I just want to, I don't want to think about that right
now. I just want to be where I am right now. And you know, maybe, you know, I want to, I do want
to lose more, but not right now. And then this is where putting that time into maintenance,
even if you decide to just maintain and sustain your weight, that is really huge.
And then maybe in the fall, maybe in the winter, maybe next summer, you might be like, yeah, okay,
it's time to go for more now. I want to go for more. So these are the conversations, feel it out,
ask yourself, right? How would I feel if I didn't lose any more weight? Feel okay. How would I feel if I lost more
weight? I'll feel okay. Am I motivated to like, do I want to spend time trying to lose more weight
right now? No, I don't. Or maybe, yeah, actually I do. Right. Or maybe yes, I do want to lose more
weight. Just like, or be like, okay,
am I, would I be okay just to work on maintaining my weight? Yeah. Or do I feel like I need to,
you know, continue to chase the scale and move it down? Oh, I don't. Right. Or maybe you do.
So if you do and you really want it and it's a matter of kind of refocusing, you know, what is
that? Why? What does that look like? What does does that feel like what is your motivator and it could be also there's also another way into this is really like so people
in maintenance for example they're they're maintaining their weight just fine but they
run into the situation where they don't feel as good as they felt when they were losing weight
because they're not managing their stress and moving their body and doing the things because
they're no longer chasing the scale so this is where if they change their motivation, so if they're no longer looking to lose weight,
why are they managing their stress? Why are they moving their bodies? Why are they being mindful
about what they're eating? And so they do that because they want to feel their best. They want
to live their best lives so that your motivation might not be, you know, like weight loss. It might be that weight
loss is no longer motivating you. It might be that it's not about, it's not about weight loss at all
for you anymore. And so that's hard to find that fire if it's not about weight loss anymore.
And so then what is it about? Now you can still lose weight without a goal of weight loss.
So now you want to be, I want to be the healthiest person that I can be. So I want to make sure I'm
eating healthy, nutrient rich foods. I want to be in tune to my body's needs. I want to do all
the things that you're doing. So you can still do the program and max out and maximize all the
things that you're doing, but not have it be about weight loss and have it be about you being your best, healthiest, strongest self. So it's that, it's that motivator. It's that motivator. Anyway,
let me know how you make it with that. Let me know how you make it with that. Okay. Now I got to go.
Now I got to go. Listen, uh, thanks for joining me today. It was not my best day. I feel a little,
I feel great. My thing, I think it's just the heat. I don't know what's going on.
We're not done. We are not done. We are not done. I'll say that again. We are not done. We are not done. We are not done. Even when we're done, we're not done. Even when we're done, we are not done.
Please do not stress about next steps. We got to, we're going to do posts. We're going to send out
emails. You will not have to ask because we are going to let you know what you need to do. Really
focus on these next few weeks.
You want to finish strong.
You want to finish stronger than the day that you started.
I love that.
I think that's an amazing goal.
And it's not about how much weight you're losing on the scale.
It's about showing up and doing all the things.
We still have a lot to talk about.
We still have a lot to work through.
So I'll be here all week and next week and the week after that.
Have an amazing rest of your day, everyone.
Bye.
If you want to join Kim and myself today, we're going to talk the tweak this week.
We're also going to talk about the tweak next week.
So if you want to join us for that, I'll see you then.
Okay, bye.
