Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Gina Livy, and welcome to the Livy Method podcast. This is where you'll have access to all of the live streams for my 91-day weight loss program. With a combination of daily lives, guest expert interviews, and member stories, there is something new almost every day. Miss the morning live? Want to re-listen to one of our amazing guest experts? Well, this is the place. This podcast is hosted on ACAST, but it's available on all podcast platforms, including the one you're listening to right now, Spotify, Apple, and Amazon Music.
Starting point is 00:00:33 We are a day 85 of the program. It is the last Monday of the fall program. This is the final week. Okay, so you guys are probably tired of me saying this, but honestly, take a minute and be really proud of the fact that you are still here. How many times have you started something and not followed through? I mean, all of us, so many times throughout our lives, and especially when it comes to dieting, it's hard.
Starting point is 00:01:00 if you have given up on past diets before, there's probably a good reason for that. Most of them are crap at the end of the day, but it's not just showing up. Like, think about it. You've got to eat, so you might as well eat good, healthy choices, but it's complicated because we use food for so many things, to celebrate, to show love, to bond, to help us survive, but also to cope and when we are stressed. And there's so many triggers out there that we associate to, food to cope. So it's just, it's a big, massive thing that you've done, still being here, because not just day by day, week by week, but month by month. I hope that you take time to celebrate yourself at some point. If that's on our Celebrate Inspire post, amazing. If you do
Starting point is 00:01:47 post before and after, fear not. We're not going to take that and use it in our marketing or anything like that. And if we think we would like to, we will absolutely reach out. So that's a safe place for you to post that in the app also a really safe place for you to not just collect your data but also post your your photos we take privacy real serious in fact we have to um so all your information is protected so if you post before and after or even taking photos in your app we aren't going to touch those we don't even have access to them at the end of the day so take a minute and be really proud of the fact that you're still here even if you're not done A lot of people like, well, I'll wait until I reach my goal. It's so important to celebrate along the way.
Starting point is 00:02:29 You got any questions today. Load them up. I want to get through as many as possible. A lot of questions about, you know, what happens when you start the next program. So this is your first program. You want to follow through right to the very last day. In simplest terms, you want to continue to personalize the plan throughout the break. There's a rhyme and a reason to that, kind of testing what you know. You need that time to kind of step back. and see where you are at. Also, if you do find yourself falling back into old habits, well, good, because that will highlight the things that you need to work on in January. So the same, it's the same program. There is a lot, a lot of science behind the tweaks each week and the Libby method itself. So you want to do each program with fresh eyes, meaning that you're taking this
Starting point is 00:03:16 new body, right, not just physically, but mentally through the process again. So you're going to go through downsizing again. You're going to go through splitting up the meals and snacks again. And you might be like, well, I don't want to do that again. Well, it's good for you. So do it anyway. So the first time we started your program, your body probably functioned. Your metabolism was a little lower. Maybe you're out of tune, not as self-aware. Maybe you're coming off pretty restrictive diets, right? You give your body what it needs. You give your body all this nutrient-rich foods. It's able to repair, rebuild, make change, drop that. But also mentally the ways that you are changing the things that you're working through. So it's a lot. So it's, you're
Starting point is 00:03:52 It's the same program, but you change group over group. It's really interesting. I went away, as you guys know, I was in Barcelona for a work thing, and I signed up for this entrepreneur's workshop and where you get together with people for like three concentrated days. And it's not networking and talking business. It's talking about how you feel. In your work, yes.
Starting point is 00:04:19 in your family life, yes, but also your personal life. And this is where you start with like the thing, the issue that you're having and then why it's important to you. And this is where like even with our why, this is resonating because it's not just asking like what why. It's going deeper. Okay, well, why do I want to get healthy? Okay, what's my goal here? What's my why that's motivating me to reach my goals? I talked about this the other day. My why is to be healthy. Okay, Well, why is that important? Well, because I want to wake up in the morning and I want to have good energy and I want to be productive and I want to, you know, enjoy my life and why is that important? Well, you know, my kids are getting older. I'm having, you know, have grandchildren. I want to
Starting point is 00:05:05 be able to play with them. I'm retiring. I want to be able to travel and live my life. So really going deep. Anyway, so I was working through this one work issue with them. And it's pretty intense. So you have someone sort of asking you questions and then there's other people listening. and then, you know, you turn your back, and then they talk about you, well, I wonder if she realizes this, and I heard this, and I heard that. Anyway, afterwards, I went up to them, and I'm like, I don't feel resolved. And they're like, well, this practice isn't for you to resolve anything. It's for you to think about the things that you need to work on and for the things that need to come up, come up for you to work through your issue. And here's where I'm going with this.
Starting point is 00:05:43 And I said, well, what happens if three months later, when I go to this next, or next session, I have the same issue. And they're like, yeah, well, you might have the same issue. I said, well, do I bring it up in the same way? And they're like, well, but after you bring up an issue, you're already changed. Your thought process around it, the actions that you take on it, right? Like it's, once you highlight and have that aha moment or ah, you've already, you're already changed.
Starting point is 00:06:10 So you're already a different person. And they're like, you're going to come back. You might have the same issue, but you're going to think about it differently. you will have act on it differently, and there'll be different people who will be hearing it. And so the program is the same in that sense, where the foundation is the same, but you will have changed. And so the tweaks each week again are about just bringing up the thought. Think about other diets that you've done, right? Where you just counted and weighed and measured and tried to burn calories and burn fat and exercised here and took these supplements there. And it's so chaotic.
Starting point is 00:06:44 And this is all about systems and routine, right, and helping you become more self-aware and in tune with your body, again, to trust when to eat, what, to eat and how much to eat at the end of it. So the tweaks each week are designed to bring up the thoughts and feels to help you, you know, go deeper, level up more, all of that. So you're building on everything that you've learned along the way. So that's the easiest way to do it. Some people like to come back and pick and choose what they think, what works, what weeks worked for them, right? So, for example, if you didn't lose weight in the beginning of this program, don't be surprised if you lose weight in the beginning of your next program. Every program is a little different. Some people are like, well, downsides, it didn't work for me. So I'm going to kind of skip it and do this instead. You have to be very careful of following a program that works and then just kind of doing your own thing. So it's really important that you follow the program as designed each time because there's a rhyme and a reason to that. Um, hi, Melanie, working through all the shit. Thanks to you and the team, Gina, I'll probably be here for life or in maintenance at some point. Non-scale victories are so important to me as I do my best with food due to issues and old narratives. I'll be back in January. Can we talk about this for a second? Because my, so I used to say, you know, I'm not selling lifetime memberships here. I used to say this, right? I'm not selling life. You shouldn't need a lifetime membership for weight loss. But you might want a lifetime of community, right, of lifetime of healthy habits.
Starting point is 00:08:18 You know, so you do as many programs as you need in order to reach your goals. At the end of the day, this is so much more than a diet. And even I have come to realize it. So, you know, the diet industry has been through a real transition. And I never tried to not be a diet. But this program was originally designed as a lifestyle program. early on i realized well if i just managed my stress and got better sleep and move my body and gave my body what it needed and you know drink enough water to be hydrated that the side effect of that
Starting point is 00:08:47 was fat loss i tried to sell it as a lifestyle program and no one wanted to buy it they're just like i don't want a lifestyle what this was like 35 years ago i just want to lose weight and so i i didn't try to not be a diet right because you know nume came out and all these people came out and they're getting slammed. You're just another diet. So I'm just like, I don't care what you call me. I used to actually be opposed to people calling it a lifestyle because I don't want you following a plan for the rest of your life. And that's why big picture is this is the tools and the skills to be able to trust when to eat, what to eat, how much to eat. So the end, so lose your weight, maintain your weight, that's a whole other thing, and live your life. And so you might use
Starting point is 00:09:33 the same principles that you're learning here with living your life, living the living way, for lack of a better term for that. Or you wake up, look, good, feel good, go about your day, just trusting you know when to eat and then what to eat and then also how much to eat. And then also you enjoy all the yummy bites of bits of life. You want to go travel, eat all the things, do that when you come back, help your body get back to feeling it's best. You want to indulge in the holidays. Great. Indulge in the holidays. Make your choices that make you feel good. Your weight is up. You feel like, well, help your body get back to. feeling good right that's what that's all about rather than punishing yourself berating yourself
Starting point is 00:10:07 starving yourself and getting back into that vicious cycle you know and so so there's a lot to unpack this is why people think losing weight in a healthy way is impossible because there's a lot there's a lot to it people always say well it didn't take me you know took me years to get where i am so it's you know it's not going to be a quick fix to undo all of that and you're right and you're right but this is like a this is like learning to live a this is like where you are at now yes you've got here but your body the thing is your body is on your side and it wants you to be as healthy as possible it's just a matter of doing the things to help it do that you know and you've got to you've got to eat anyway you might as well eat healthy choices you've got to get better sleep if you don't
Starting point is 00:10:48 it affects your lifespan we know how important sleep is right you got you got to get sleep um so when your body repairs and rebuilds regenerates detoxes and also cleanses your brain at night for a lack of a more scientific term, you got to manage your stress. You're going to have a heart attack and get stressed out, honestly, right? You've got to move your body because our bodies are meant to move. And that's going to make us healthier, it's going to make us happier, right? And live longer, healthier, happier lives. You got to have a good relationship with yourself, what's going on in your mind, right?
Starting point is 00:11:19 That's where joy. You can't just be berated and stressing and struggling every day. And if you do stress and struggle, you want to figure out why so you can address that shit. You want to grow and you want to evolve. So these are all the things we're doing in the program, all the things that we're doing in the program. I am still here, even though the number on the scale does not reflect the number. The session, I have dealt with complications from cataract surgery and a torn knee meniscus,
Starting point is 00:11:41 which has really restricted my level of exercise. The knee injury happened during my gentle yoga class for seniors, which really shocked me. Yoga is no joke, even gentle yoga. I'm telling you, people think it's so easy. It's actually not. And as we get older, like the slightest movement, right? I swear sometimes sleeping just hurts my back. The knee injury happened during my gentle yoga class for seniors, which really shocked me,
Starting point is 00:12:05 so I've had to accept the fact that at 73 we must adjust our level of exercise. Yes. Married to a former phys ed teacher, I've attended exercise classes since I was 23, so accepting this adjustment has been challenging. Thanks goodness for this program is it feels like there's always something, someone listening. Well, there is always something and there's always someone listening. I used to be like the aerobics queen, like on stage. I used to do that aerobic stuff where you're on stage.
Starting point is 00:12:32 Man, I was so fit. I was one of the first people to teach step classes in Canada, one of the first people to teach spin classes in Canada, trained by Stott Pilates, when Pilates wasn't even a thing. Like, this goes way back. I had the pleasure of working at this really fun club in Toronto called Body Alive. we were all the who's who of whoville went.
Starting point is 00:12:52 It was the place to go. I was so fit. I even did some bodybuilding training for a while. And then, you know, throughout my life, I taught classes, did personal training. Ask me if I could teach a class right now today, what that would look like. Man, I don't even think I'd make it through. There's an incredible studio called Function Studio here in Newmarket, where I live. And I actually know the owner because I worked with her sister at this club called Body Alive.
Starting point is 00:13:20 their classes are insane. You want to go to the best, hands down, the best fitness classes on the planet or at this club in New Market, I'm telling you. I think about going there all the time. I also know that I would die in like five minutes. But that, that, that, you know, this fit person was like this personality. It became who I was and that's not who I am anymore. Right. And that's tough. I was just upstairs doing a workout on my walking pad and, you know, like kind of doing some squats on the ball. I felt really uncoordinated. I used to be able to wrap my legs around my head, like legit. Take my leg and, I mean, I can kind of go there, wrap it around my head.
Starting point is 00:13:59 I used to be able to do the splits. Can't do that anymore. Now, can I still work on my cardiovascular health? Yes. Can I add muscle? Yes. Can I do some stretches and improve my flexibility? Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:14:12 But I get you on. I just want to say I feel you on this. I feel you on this. This happens a lot when I used to train. trained men who in their older years when I was a personal trainer and I would train some older men who would come in and they were football stars or athletes when they were younger. They were like, well, I was a big athlete and I was a football star and I'd be like, okay, but you're not now, but you're not now.
Starting point is 00:14:35 And so it becomes part of our identity and also just getting older. One of the things I brought up at this work thing that I was at, my personal thing was that I'm getting older and unhealthy isn't the word, because I wouldn't call myself unhealthy, but I guess comparing, and what was I doing there, I was comparing to when I was probably 20, 30, even 40. So yeah, I'm not as healthy as I was. Mentally, I am like a million times healthier. Physically, I'm definitely not as healthy as I was then. So it's hard getting older. I, you know what's a great podcast to listen to? The one I did with Dr. Shefali. She was really great because I talked to her and you might have seen a clip that we have on, um, social media where I say to her, you know, everyone's talking about this menopause as a decline and whatever and let's talk about that. She's like, it is. It's a decline. And I was like, what? She's like, it is. What's wrong with that? We're getting older. We're not the same. We're changing. And she talked about how like when your 20s were, like this era of whatever the 30s your era of whatever and your 40s it's the era of and the 50s what
Starting point is 00:15:52 is this era for me this is the era of like probably so cliche but not giving fucks like really trying to get to a place where making choices that make me happy and and trusting my gut and you know bringing in people around me that I enjoy spending time with and not bothering with people that I don't spend time with and you know um feeling more calm and confident in my soul, also continuing to evolve. I just want to work through so much of my shit. I don't want to be like stressing and struggling anymore, you know? And so what is the what's your era of the 60s? What's the gift in the 20s, the gift in the 30s, the gift in the 40s, the gift in the 50s, right? What is that? The gift in the 60s and the 70s. So it was a really
Starting point is 00:16:35 great podcast. I highly suggest you. Take time for that. Take time for that. And thank you for sharing. Thank you for sharing that. I missed all of you. I was recovering from a another broken foot. I did the program behind the scenes this round, but it wasn't as fun. One more round for me in January and then going to maintenance. Hope you're doing great. Oh, you know, I do want to take a minute and such a good point, Victoria. First of all, I hope you speedy recovery, but there are so many people behind the scenes who feel part of the community because of the people asking the questions. I know I say this every time, but it's worth repeating. Those of you, every time you share, right? Every time you share like Elizabeth just
Starting point is 00:17:13 shared. You know, every time you ask a question. You know, there are so many thousands of people listening behind the scenes or reading the comments that feel like they're being a herd that feel like they are part of something because you took the time to share or make a comment. You know, that's, we need to normalize this. I think I didn't really lock in this fall until 30 days in. That's okay. And that's, this is where we really need to normalize the life part. And no one, see, this is the thing that no one talks about when it comes to. let's just say dieting for lack of a better word making change in your life reaching any goal
Starting point is 00:17:49 there are seasons like fall winter spring and then there are seasons in your life and there are things going on your life that this was like capacity so i always tell the story about how during the pandemic i was doing this group in january and we were like going along and it was great and it was just like everything was coming together i had done a few groups I had a better understanding what I was doing, like, it was pretty amazing. And then the pandemic happened, and then all of a sudden, people were at home. And people were saying, like, I'm at home. I have more time than ever, and I can't get my shit together.
Starting point is 00:18:24 What's wrong with me? What's wrong with me? What's wrong with me? And that's where I first understood the concept of capacity, even though people had all the time in the world. Like, I have always wanted to clean my basement and organize it. during the pandemic i had all the time in the world do you think that i cleaned and organized my basement i did not and so although i had all this time i did not have the capacity because we were like
Starting point is 00:18:52 terrified and concerned and you know confused and you know it was like just a really wild time for lack of a better word um and i got to learn this word capacity sometimes you have all the intention in the world and you want to so badly, but you just don't have the capacity, either physically or mentally. And that's okay. That's okay. And that's why you got to keep going. And the thing is, here's what I want. Anyone who felt like they didn't capitalize on, I was going to say for a lack of better word, but I've already used that term like three times. So I've got to stop saying that. For anyone listening, you feel like they didn't make the most of or capitalize the time that they have. Look how quickly that time went. Look how fast that time went by. It went by so
Starting point is 00:19:37 fast. So these holidays are going to go by so fast. And then the next three months are going to buy so fast. That's where I highly suggest. There are going to be two books that I suggest that you get. The one is James Clear, Atomic Habits. I don't know if I have it here. Let's see. Usually I have it around my desk. Nope. It must be somewhere else. James Clear Atomic Habits. It's really will get you excited about understanding the small little things you do add up and make a big difference. the next book is not even out yet. It's not even out yet. Dr. Jason Fung, and you might know him because he wrote the book, The Obesity Code, and yes, he's about fasting, but that's okay. We're on the same page. He's written this book about the why you eat, the science behind hunger, which all of you are going to be like, oh my goodness, it's going to be so validating for this program and how he believes wholeheartedly. He knows that it's not just eat less, exercise, more calories and versus calories. And those are two really great books. especially James Clear, that atomic habits, just understanding those small things.
Starting point is 00:20:35 And, you know, I look back at pictures I took in April before my first program. I see a huge difference, very happy for this program, as I had struggled to find something that worked and helped me lose weight. The program is so much more. It really is so much more, right? Yes, it's the diet. That's the underlying. Your buying is weight loss, and the program is really effective for that.
Starting point is 00:20:54 But it's also effective for learning about yourself, going to trust yourself, being in tune with yourself, trusting your gut. self-awareness, giving you the tools to live your best life truly. I mean, again, if you woke up today, you're already living your best life, but so many of us have a vision for what we want our lives to be, not just how we look, but how we feel, how we want to show up in life. And the reason why we have that vision is because it's absolutely possible for us. It's possible for us. But what's the middle part? What's the connect the dots? How do we get there? How do we get there, you know. Oh, for anyone listening interested, I have four tickets to Gina's event on Thursday at
Starting point is 00:21:33 Revolution Her at Maple View in Burlington. Unfortunately, my group isn't able to go. So DM me if anyone would like to take those off my hands. So find Andrea because that event is sold out. So we are doing another Revolution Her. So Revolution Her is a store that carries all women entrepreneur products, which is really cool. They have a couple in some big malls. And we partner with them to do some community pop-ups. So if you missed it, also reach out. There might still be tickets through the store as well. And so this, is it Thursday? This Thursday, we're going to be hanging out. We're going to do a little panel, little chat. If you want to come hang out with us, meet other members of the community, maybe do a little shop and I don't know. But we are going to do
Starting point is 00:22:10 more of these. We're going to do more of our walks. We're going to do more community pop-ups. We're going to do some fun stuff coming up. Really understanding how important community is. So we got some fun stuff planned for you. Let's talk about the app for a second, because some of you have purchased the January live session. Some of you have purchased the new subscription model. So we have a new app that we've been working on, which is really cool. It
Starting point is 00:22:36 still doesn't have all the bells and whistles. For example, we want to add a chat feature. We're working on that. That's going to be next gen for spring. But we've taken a lot of the feedback from people using the app. We've made some great changes and updates to. We had to just from a like a build
Starting point is 00:22:52 perspective with it because there's so many cool things that we want to do. So we're going to have a the new app. So you do not have to download a new app. It's going to be the exact same app. And what you will need to do is update the app, update the app store. We will let you know when. So we are going to send out emails. We'll let you know on social media. So we'll let you know when you can update that. All of your information will transfer over. And the way it's designed, you will not have to unlock the winter program. So it just automatically have access to that. Now, if you know anyone who's new, they don't have the new app yet. So the same thing. We're going to send out all the
Starting point is 00:23:32 information for anyone who's new and let them know when they are able to download and update that app as well. So that's how that's going to work. There will be a couple days where there'll be a little bit of an interruption as we transfer all the information from one app over to the other. But that's going to be around the like the 24th, 25th, 26th over the holidays where we'll let you know about that. And what else do you want to know? You'll be able to continue to use the app in general tracking mode until the next program. So in between groups. So that is, if that right now is like if someone just bought the January program, they're not doing the subscription or even if you did the subscription, you can use it in what we call general tracking. So there's no AI in it. It's got
Starting point is 00:24:19 limited access to the information, but you still have all the information in the Facebook support group. And then moving forward, obviously people who did the subscription, you will have full access to your app, the AI, all of that, in between programs, in between programs. So that's how that's going to work. Let me see what else I can think about. I lost about 10 pounds this round. Was less than I hoped for, but I'm celebrating that I'm 10 pounds down from what I was. The plan works and is wonderful. Thank you for saying. I'm back for round 10 in January. My goal for December is maintain, not gain. definitely make sure you join our conversation tomorrow with Dr. Linka and Dr. Beverly, David, and Dr. Dina, we're going to talk about navigating the gap in between programs.
Starting point is 00:25:02 Even after you lose your weight and you go into maintenance, right, Christmas comes around, holidays, memorial days, anniversary days, you really need to understand how to navigate those. So no matter how you're feeling about the Christmas holiday, I mean, listen to Stacey that we talked about last week, she lost weight over the holidays, right? you absolutely can still lose weight over the holidays, but just maintaining your weight is a huge feat, not gaining weight over the holidays. But it's not enough time really to gain weight and you'd really have to do a number on yourself. But the thoughts and the fields that pop up about this
Starting point is 00:25:34 break, you want to go there. What's my fear? What am I nervous about? How am I feeling? Right. And let's just say everything just goes to shit. You eat all the things. That's okay. It's not enough time to gain real weight. And we'll be back at it in January. You know how to get back on track, you will have learned how you don't want to feel or how you don't want to navigate. Pay attention to how you're feeling throughout the holidays and what's going on mentally. Pay attention to how some of your family members speak to you, right, over the holidays. You know, it's an opportunity to gain great insight. I am in the same, I'm back 1,000% in January. I hit major health challenges, was hospitalized twice, was sick all the
Starting point is 00:26:19 time. I felt so down. I made all these changes. And yes, my health improved. However, I felt so down when I was sick all the time. It's so, right? Right? Now I know what it was. So now I'm getting some confidence back. I'm learning now again what foods I can tolerate. This is life. This is life. We feel just when we feel like we got our shit together, it likes to knock us down, set us back, smack us in the face, punches in the throat. right oh my god i'm laughing not at you obviously that's horrible um but this is life and this is what it's all about it's about just continuing to put one foot in front of the other and no one is going to come save you and do the work and help you i mean people might come and help you but
Starting point is 00:27:01 you know it's really up to you it's really up to you and before you know it this moment will pass and then you'll be back to like okay this is my season of this again you know i'm still happy that you're back and hopefully you're on the, you're moving forward. You're moving forward. Hi, Carol. How are you? I saw your, I just saw you on your Instagram, um, just the other day. You're doing your sale for Black Friday, I think. Hello, dear community. I somehow showed up in the midst of chaos in my life. On top of the grief of the last two years, I am still here. I reduced nine pounds. I think that's quite a feat. It sure is. Signed it for January already, of course. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what
Starting point is 00:27:44 you do. Sometimes I think it's just my herbs in our community that get me through this very challenging time. Yeah, it's it's whatever your ritual. Carol deals in herbs and tinctures and whatnot. And it's your ritual and your routine. I know some of you are going to really miss the routine. So here's what I suggest. Try to keep the routine as much as possible. And maybe you used to sit down and watch this live while having a coffee. Maybe you can download and listen to a podcast and go for a walk. Or maybe there's a book you wanted to read. So take this time and read a book.
Starting point is 00:28:20 Try to keep bits of the routine. And that'll be, that'll really help you throughout the holidays. Try to still start with your apple cider vinegar, your love and water in the morning. I mean, really those aren't magical things, but they can help with digestion. And they also really help with our routine. So try to keep some of those same things in routine. I am proud to still be here with all of you. This program was lifelifting.
Starting point is 00:28:42 Oh, I love that. Life lifting, and I got distracted from my self-care while caring for others. That happens, right, Patty? I held on, did the parts of the program that I could, and now I'm back at it. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Lane. She says, I hope you didn't hurt your back doing that move right now. The leg over my head, you probably did.
Starting point is 00:29:08 I won't be able to get up from under, off my chair. Okay, let me scroll down a little bit more. I injured my knee doing yoga about three years ago at 64 months of physio, and I was a yoga teacher, right? Oh my goodness. Yes. Yes, if you would have seen me, I have one of those like half balance ball things and I'm on it today and I'm doing, I'm doing my squats and I'm trying to do my curls and, ugh, hating every second of it, hating every second. Sometimes you have to hit bottom high, Kelly, Sweeney. Well, you know, you've been through the ringer.
Starting point is 00:29:40 You've got so much going on this last little bit. Sometimes you have to hit the bottom to want to go back up again. And, you know, this is, it's sort of like, here's the thing. This is what I think. Well, actually, my concept of the universe has changed. So it seems like I clear some shit away and then more shit just lands in my lap. The universe is like, oh, good for you. You work through that.
Starting point is 00:30:07 Here's some more. And I really believe we are here to have fun, for sure. also to learn and grow and evolve and experience and where you hear even emotions right you you will never know true joy unless you really understand grief and you know for those of you who have experienced grief in your life one of the things that it did for me was really highlight moments of joy like you go looking for the joy or you see the joy in contrast with the grief that you've experienced so we are you're here you're here to experience all of it. And I think what we don't want to experience over and over again is this
Starting point is 00:30:47 stress and this struggle and what is going on in our mind around food and our bodies. Like, that's the last thing that we want to be spending our time on. And, you know, so you clear one thing. The universe gives you messages. It helps you be like, hey, okay, let's work through this. Hello. Let's work through this. You work through it. You have your aha moment about it. And, you know, you clear that and then the universe is like, here, here's more. And I used to look at the universe is challenging me because I know what I want. So let's say you want to reach your weight loss goals, but you also have attached a lot to that. When I lose my weight, I'm going to get in a relationship. I'm going to move. I'm going to quit my job. I'm going to travel. It's
Starting point is 00:31:38 going to be this. It's going to be that. So a lot of people are, a lot of you are not just trying to lose weight here. What happens when you lose that weight, you got a lot riding on that. And so think about the universe is like, okay, well, it wants you to get there. So what do you have to work through, work on and do in order to get there? Like to truly get to that place where you want to be, for example, I say calm around food, physically and mentally, be able to be walked down the chip aisle and not be like, oh my God, should I get chips? Should I not get chips? Be able to sit in front of a bowl. chips and eat just one chip, although they are designed to be addicted. So that's a whole other Obesogenic society thing. But anyway, so I'll save that for another day. And so, you know,
Starting point is 00:32:20 the universe is challenging you so you can learn the things you need to learn, work through the things that you need to work through to get you to where you want to go. So I recently watched this, I watched this guest speaker talk about how the universe is friendly. And I used to think it's a bitch just constantly trying to challenge me. And the universe is actually friendly it's giving you messages it's helping you out it's giving you a nudge forward you know and this is sort of like think about the things that you want in your life and where you want to be and then think about really truly being there not just physically but mentally what are some of the things you're going to have to do or work through or work on right in order to really truly get you there
Starting point is 00:33:00 sometimes things just don't make sense but you know ever have that thing where something bad happens and there are some things like obviously grief that is just like I'm not sure how useful grease like you know there everything is for a rhyme and a reason when it comes to that at the end of the day I think it's whatever that might be but you ever have something bad happened to you what you think is bad in the moment and then you reflect back and you're like geez if that hadn't ever happened like oh my god thank god that horrible thing happened to me right I you know years ago I had this friendship situation my best friend of 20 years and we had this misunderstanding and a simple conversation would have a simple, I laughed at a simple
Starting point is 00:33:42 conversation would have fixed it. And I think looking back now, she was dealing with some stuff in her life. So she just did an all stop completely cut me out of her life. It was horrible. And all the friends that we had attached to that friendship as well. It was awful, especially because like a simple conversation would have fixed it. But for some reason, I didn't, I didn't push to have that simple conversation. And she blocked me, so I couldn't even have it. I thought, oh my God, this is my best friend for 20 years. What is going on? This is crazy. I didn't murder anybody. Didn't cheat on her husband. What is happening? And it doesn't matter why, but that is the best, that was the best thing to ever happen to me. It was such a massive turning point in my life
Starting point is 00:34:28 where, one, I realized, you know, wasn't the best friendship. And two, that friendship was keeping me stuck in who she thought I was. And that friendship really limited me extending myself and reaching out to and connecting with other women. And when that friendship ended, it allowed me to have these opportunities to meet new people. And when I did, I was like, whoa, this is incredible. I don't think I ever would have started my Facebook, this particular friend when I, when I did the Facebook thing. She was like, Facebook is stupid. No one's on Facebook. What are you doing? and I'm like, I'm on Facebook. My family's on Facebook. There's a lot of Facebook is convenient. And so I wonder about the things that I would not have done if that person was still in my life.
Starting point is 00:35:12 Incredibly hurtful. And that's just one example. This could be a situation about getting fired at work. For example, you got fired at work. You got let go. But then that led you to have the job of your dreams, right? So I'm a big believer in that. I'm a big massive believer in that. I can't get motivated to do indoor workouts. I miss golf and my golf peeps. okay so can you find so motivation is that we talk about motivation it's hard right so can you find can okay what happens if next golf season you come back and you like work on core strength and you do like you do like this training you work on your flexibility you work on your core strength you build muscle you work on your balance like if golf is your motivator what would happen if you did some
Starting point is 00:36:02 training over the off season and how much would that improve your golf game, right? Like, could you imagine that? Like, so that could be a really big motivator. Like, I'm going to work out so that I am strong and I feel amazing and I'm truly like playing my best golf game. Maybe that might be your motivator, right? Or maybe it's that maybe it's just, you know, maybe you find that there's a lot of golf trainers out there and you find some golf YouTube videos and you know so then you're working your purpose
Starting point is 00:36:36 is that you are doing these workouts not just for working out but to help you with your golf game maybe maybe good morning from Vancouver first off thank you for all you do can you please help in capital letters okay let me see my weight in the last week is 121 19 117 118 and today 119 after the weekend of wine some holiday food but not crazy amounts. This is confusing. It's actually not confusing at all. And the reason why I'll say that is if you go back and you look at that scale post, there is a graph that looks exactly like this. Sometimes we forget, like, you know, because that was like a long time ago. But if you go into the scale, let me see if I can find it. Let me see if I go into my app and I search up, go into the
Starting point is 00:37:28 guides and I use a little search feature and I'll do the scale. So I put in the scale and there is a bunch of posts that come up. So I'm going to go through the post, look through the post, the scale, or let's revisit. So there's a scale. So what weight loss actually looks like. So you were like 122, 120, 119, 117, 118, and then today 119. So this one is 161, 161, 161, 161, 159. Right?
Starting point is 00:37:55 And so actually, totally normal. So when you've gone on other diets, you might have weighed once in a while. Well, it doesn't tell you the normal ups and downs and what's happening in your body. So there's a couple things going on. Your weight can be down and simultaneously up at the same time. So you started at 122. Right? So that's your weight up. Then your weight probably dropped 120, probably 119, 117. This is probably where you maybe drop the ball on water or, you know, because you usually. what happens is your body retains water because it's still looking to drop or you know this is a normal up after you see your lowest low it could have been that you had some salty food it could have been that you had a crappy sleep it could have been that you had a stressful day it could have been that you worked out the day before so your muscles are sore and so your body's you know retaining water and then today 119 so your weight is one your lowest low is always because because you're eating and drinking water, your lowest low is always your new low. So that's 117.8 is your new low. And today it is just up, probably because sometimes people's weight goes up and stays there for a bit as it adjust to your new low. But before it settles down on your lowest low. So really, this is why it's so important to try to not just read the information, but really understand it.
Starting point is 00:39:24 The same thing, like I feel the same way with like understanding that your body doesn't want you to eat. at night because your sleep is so important. And if you eat something at night, this is really going to mess with your sleep. Right? Like sometimes it's just like understanding the science behind that. So, so, so, so this can be a pattern for you. And your patterns can change. So some people, I saw someone the other day where who is this, here's a comment here. Kim sent it to me this morning about someone was frustrated with the scale or maybe I saw it in the comments and then all of a sudden they got on the scale today and they're down four pounds. Well, they didn't lose the four pounds overnight. But all week long, when they were getting on the scale, their weight could have
Starting point is 00:40:03 been up due to working out, stress, sleep, whatever, but also down at the same time. So after their body calmed down from a workout, for example, or you got a good night's sleep, the body was able to, you were able to see that lowest low, right? So this is why, this is probably your pattern. So you'll see an up and then you'll see it down and then this is why after you see that first drop you want to assume your weight is still dropping for like three three four days afterwards no matter what's going on the scale because a lot of people will see that drop and they'll be like the next day it'll be back up and they're like oh I gave my weight back well chances are your body's just retaining water in order to continue to release that fat through that natural metabolic process so so yeah
Starting point is 00:40:50 um so it's your new weight is when 17 right so this can go back to that the concept of if you if the scale is up you've gained weight which it's it's just so not even real life it's not real life every time the scale goes up does not mean especially if you're like if i used to help people gain weight man it is so hard to actually gain weight and i know you're like what are you talking about gina your weight can fluctuate a lot for a variety of reasons especially when you eat like junk foods because they're very inflammatory, um, so that can have your weight, what seems like up a lot, but it's not really. So, so this is probably a good, this is like a pattern for you.
Starting point is 00:41:35 So this will probably happen again and again and again, right? Where you'll have an up and then it'll come down, down, down, and then it'll go back up. It might stay there for a bit and then settle down. As soon as you see that new load, that is your new load. This is why it's so important a way every day. Otherwise, like if you would have just got on the scale, you know, um, once a week, for example, example, then you'd be like, oh, I've only, you know, let's say you were at 122 and then today you're at 119. Now, if you were seeing crazy, crazy, crazy numbers, and this seems pretty normal to me, check things like your battery in the scale. And sometimes, like, sometimes people like, I lost five pounds and ten pounds and like, whatever what's going on, sometimes it's your
Starting point is 00:42:19 scale. So yeah, totally normal, totally normal. Totally normal. So this is, you could, so what you could do like what like this is where for example when you were 117 did you go to the gym that day right that could have your weight up the next day when you're 117 did you have a crappy sleep stay up late that could have your weight up so so what you want to do is the goal is every day you wake up you look better and feel better than the day day before and if not you can look back and say why when you get on the scale like you almost want to get to a point where you can guess the number on the scale and how based on how you feel and the choices that you made less thing. So this is sort of where if you were at 117, then the scale popped up to 118, you want to
Starting point is 00:43:01 look back and say, okay, did I do anything yesterday that would cause my scale to be out? Workout, not drinking of water, crappy sleep, all of those things. And if you can, you're like, oh, that's probably my weight is up. And if you can't, then chances are your weight is up because your body is still in the process of releasing that fat. You probably need to drink more water. So that's where you want to get with that. So that's like getting investigative about it. So that looks Totally normal. Totally normal and expected. The universe has your back. The universe has your back was a book that I read right after my car got repossessed. My husband got sick and almost died. My marriage had fallen apart. I read that book and then years later I actually got to interview and be on stage with Gabby Bernstein, which was crazy. That was such a huge book for me. The universe has your back. And the secret. I'm like a secret girl. I watch the secret over and over and over and over and over and really hard times and be like, okay, there's a way out of this, there's a way out of this, there's a way out of that. That was a huge book for me. That was a huge book for me. Yeah, just because we miss someone
Starting point is 00:44:06 doesn't mean we want them back in our lives. Ooh, there's truth in that. There is truth in that, right? I completely messed up this program. I stopped showing up. That's okay. That's okay. You didn't. You're still here. You didn't mess anything up. I always say, as long as you keep showing up, mess it up. You didn't mess anything up. There's so much in this for you to unpack and learn. I stopped showing up. Why? So you want to start with that. Why? What was going on? What was going on in your life? Were you at capacity? Life you had a lot going on. Maybe something had to give and it was you. Right? Something had to give it was you. Sometimes we cannot do all the things and something has to give and sometimes that has to be you. Because there are just moments in our
Starting point is 00:44:50 life where we don't have the time for ourselves. We can't. We can do the small things that will make a difference, right? However, bits of the program stock. I drank my lemon water every day. See, that's what I'm saying. The small things. Perfect. I move my body. That is huge. I drank my water, huge. I didn't have the courage to step on the scale. I hate my reflection in the mirror, just venting so I can move forward. Thank you for providing the space to do so. You know, yes, please. Yes, please. I used to say that this was a safe positive space for people to work on their journeys. I don't say positive anymore because it's not about it being positive. It's a safe space for you to show up and share how you feel and work through your stuff.
Starting point is 00:45:29 I use my quotas on the S word today. Okay. So you, I want you to break down. So before you roll into the January program or by the end of the weeks, take some time. First of all, be proud of the fact that you are still here. This is worthy of you sharing that you did those things, not an easy thing. A couple of things I want you to unpack. Like what?
Starting point is 00:45:55 Stop showing up. So what does that mean? So it sounds to me you did great. You drank, you moved your body that's huge. You did your lemon water. You know, there's probably a lot more that you did in there than you're owning up to that to be proactive. I'm sure you ate some leafy greens and made some good choices at some point or at least you were, you were mindful in thinking about it. That is huge.
Starting point is 00:46:17 Maybe you, maybe you know, here's what I would do. Maybe listen to some of the guest experts, especially Dr. Beverly David, that will be a good one on body image and whatnot showing up. So how would you like to show up next program and be real about it? If you, okay, let's go back to if you had the same season of life, if everything that was happening to you happened to you, what would you do differently next time? Not like, oh, next time I'm going to do this and I'm going to do that and I'm going to do all these amazing things. Going back, if you had a chance to go back, what are some of the small things that you could have done. Now in hindsight, right, those are the things I would focus on
Starting point is 00:46:56 and work on. The courage to step on the scale, that is such a tough one. It's not stepping on the scale, the courage to recognize where you are at and you've already done that today. You don't need the scale to tell you where you're at and how the last three months of your life have gone. You don't need the scale to tell you how you are feeling. The scale is not a measure of success. You don't need to get on it. The scale is collecting data and to be used as a tool along with how you are feeling and choices you're making and what's going on. It's not a measure of I haven't been following and now I need to see the scale to see my reality.
Starting point is 00:47:32 You are living in your body. You do not need to get on the scale. So don't even bother with that. Don't even bother with that. I hate my reflection in the mirror, just venting so I can move on. So you can vent all you want about hating your reflection in the mirror. It's not going to change that. Get a journal and start.
Starting point is 00:47:48 training your brain to see the things that you do love. You love your eyes. You love your nose. Love your lips. Maybe you got good teeth. You like your hair. Find something. Collarbone, shoulder, elbow, fingers, hands. Find something. Find something. And write it out because this is the work that all the eating and weight loss in the world isn't going to help you with. You can lose your weight and still look in the mirror and feel like the exact same person without doing that deeper work right that deal don't wait until you are at the weight that you want to be at to love yourself right this is like a lesson in self-love and that this is so the minute you start berating and the minute the the the language comes and all of that you got to turn that around I don't know what
Starting point is 00:48:36 you've been through the last three months but I'm I would imagine you had your share of stuff maybe it's where you're at in life maybe it's something going on with your children or your family or your work or just feel how you feel about getting older Who knows what it is, but all of it is valid. All of it is valid. And so that's the work, right? That's the work for that. First of all, the first step, what you did today was really huge. Please don't make it about the scale. Don't even bother with that because that's not it. You don't need to do that. This is you. This is you showing up. This right here, this moment, is you showing up. And this is why this is so much more than just weight lost at the end of the day. So I appreciate you. Reach out. Let us know. Okay. still have a week here. Make a plan for, you know, there's a lot of time between the end of this
Starting point is 00:49:24 program and the start of the January program. And I'm not talking about capitalize on losing weight. Yes, obviously some of you're going to want to lose weight over the whole day. It's great. Just get yourself in the right frame of mind. What can you do? What are some of the things you can do to support yourself. I'm going to say set yourself up for success, but better support yourself on the next program. I start with that. All right. I went way over time. Will there be a new journal for January? Yes. We have a new journal for January and we're going to have a new book. We're going to have a new book out, a new updated book for January. We have a new journal that should be up sometime soon. We'll let you know. And we have a new app. Plus we've streamlined the program. We're trying to make it as easy as possible for people to follow. We've learned a lot. Please, please, please, please, please. Take time to fill out that survey. If it's your first program, your 21st program, I want to hear your thoughts, what you liked, what you loved, what you love, what you didn't. I especially want to know what you didn't like, even if it's about me. I read those. I'm not perfect. And I'm, you know, I'm not saying that I'm not going to grow and evolve either. So, you know,
Starting point is 00:50:28 I'm also not going to change to try to be everyone's cup of tea. But, you know, I've changed a lot. You can't tell now, but there was a time when I used to talk really fast. And then I was like, it's just how I talk. I'm passionate. Fuck off. And now I'm like, maybe I could just be more in the moment and slow down. So please take time to fill out that. survey is it a little bit timely and lengthy um we're going to do a fun giveaway with that um survey so at the end you can still fill it out anonymously and still put your name in there please share the program tell everyone you know friends family it's a great program please help us share the word we appreciate you um where do you find the survey we're going to email it out but it's also in the facebook
Starting point is 00:51:08 support group it should also be linked in the app too so if you're using the app it should link um from the app into the group where you can fill that out I think. Let me see. Complete my app. Confirm. Congratulations. Oh, I haven't. I got to skip. I think anyways. I didn't do my day yesterday. Now I've got to upload my photo. Okay. I'll go through that. It'll link to the app. If it doesn't, we'll do that. Now you can find it in the group. If you can take time. Does it? Yeah, thanks to the app. Thanks, everyone. We got a great week ahead. The Bod Squad, we call them Dr. Beverly, Dr. Olinka, and Dr. Dina. hence the Bod Squad are going to be joining us tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:51:52 That's going to be a fun conversation. Sandra Elia is going to join us on Wednesday, talk about how to navigate the holidays. And then I'm going to be joined on Thursday for our last live of the week. Kim is going to join me. And Odette, who is the manager of the maintenance program. So it's going to be a great week. I hope you can join us.
Starting point is 00:52:08 And also going to be back tonight. Do you want to join me then? Have an excellent day, everyone. And I will see you later. Bye.
