Everyone's talking about self-care, but really, what the hell is it? And how do we self-care ourselves? I don't even know. Julie Clark is joining me. She's back. Hello, Julie. Hi.
Starting point is 00:01:29 Hi, Gina. So nice to be back with you and talking about self-care. Well, and you're the perfect guest. Not only are you the founder of Province Apothecary, I've used your amazing skincare line and all of that. You're also a mom. You've been on your own wellness journey. You work full time. Where should we even start with this conversation? I know you're going to, we're going to talk skin because everyone wants to talk skincare with, you know, the skincare guru and all of that.
Starting point is 00:01:56 You are like a certified skin therapist and we're going to definitely get into that a little bit later on, but let's start with the basics of like self-care. What do you think self-care is? Like you're, this is your industry. What, how would you define self-care? Is it just baths? And I don't know. I would even simplify it further and just say self-care is whatever fills your cup. So, um, you know, let's just, I feel like, you know, in our modern worlds, there's so many expectations on, on self-care that it becomes so overwhelming and we actually feel bad and guilty that we're not taking more care of ourselves. I'm stressed out. My self-care is stressing me out because people like, you need to do more self-care. You need to
Starting point is 00:02:40 fuck. Well, who's going to do my work and who's going to do this and who's going to do that? And now self-care is now stressing me out. Should I have a bath? Should I not? Should I do this? Should I not? Like, yeah. Okay. I love it. It's very individual. Are we looking for a feeling? What's the end result of our self-care? Like what's the purpose of it? So for me, it is to feel maybe a little bit more grounded, more connected to my body, you know, rested if that's. So I think it's kind of maybe the first question is, what are you missing in your life or in your day or in this hour, if you can get that specific and think about it that way. So, you know, is it, I'm missing, I'm missing a little bit of time for myself. Okay, why don't I go brush my teeth and brush my hair? Right? Like, can it be that simple?
Starting point is 00:03:33 Yeah, for real. Because like, some days I'm pushing it, especially with my hair. I'm like, Gina, find some time, girlfriend. You're gorgeous, Gina. I love your hair. Anyways, okay. Yeah. Yeah. So I think for me, it's, you know, being an entrepreneur working, you know, a lot as you do as well. And being a mom, um, I get, you know, we all, we all know this, that we put ourself last. So it's like, let's, let's put, put that out as like, we, this is a reality for most people, whether or not you're a mom or not dog mom, like, you know, all the humans, we all put ourselves last really. So, um, yeah, I think if you have a moment, can you think about what you need? I love that you said this because right now we're having this conversation in our
Starting point is 00:04:22 maintenance group. So we, we hear this a lot. Why people are in the pursuit of a goal pursuit of trying to lose weight. They prioritize, they do all the things. And then they meant they reached their goal. They're like, okay, enough time spent on me. Now I have to go back on focusing on this, focusing on that. And now they're at the bottom of the list again. And then they're like, well, I don't, I maybe I'm maintaining my weight, which is great, but I don't feel as good as I felt when I was doing all of those things. And I think a big part of that was prioritizing yourself, being mindful, taking care of yourself. And in the weight loss group, we have this thing called maximizing, which is where you're also focusing on your stress and your sleep and, you know, maybe doing self care in a more proactive way,
Starting point is 00:05:03 right? Because you're trying to get that scale to move. I think it's so important when people are no longer pursuing that goal that they recognize self-care fits into you taking care of yourself. And I guess whatever that means to, for me, like, for example, like my sanity right now, I'm like, I don't know if I'm coming or going today. I know I'm stressed out. I've, I've, I've been at that max stress and then things have accumulated and I'm back there again. And it's like, how do I get a handle on that? Cause just one hot bath, one hot bath isn't going to do it for me. Like, I feel like I could just go to bed and lie there all day, but I have
Starting point is 00:05:40 a feeling when I wake up tomorrow, I don't know, it's going to help me. So, so figuring out what it is, but how do we also fit it in once we figure it out? How do we, how do you, how do you find time for it? You're busy lady. Sure. Okay. So, um, okay. First of all, I'm like, Gina, you have taught all of us, like I've done the program, I'm doing the program, like self-care practices that, you know, yes, if we're not, you know, working on our weight, we still have an amazing foundation you've given us. So thank you. And tapping into that. So I would think about it as like a month, a week, a day, like what do you have capacity for? For me, max stress, my favorite thing ever is acupuncture, meditation, you know, like little things. But again,
Starting point is 00:06:33 time, time is hard. So is it once a month, I go for acupuncture to regulate my nervous system. Once a week, I go to bed early on a a Monday and, you know, and then I have more time to do a meditation before bed. So can you look at things in a broader sense rather than, you know, today, this is what I have like time for, right? You don't have time for much every day. This is so true. Okay. So I love also what came to mind is maybe making a list of like, cause you hear this, you see the memes, like going to the grocery store is not you time. It's not like, unless you really love, like, I don't know, you love going through some health food store and looking at products and whatever,
Starting point is 00:07:18 but like doing the things you need to do are not necessarily you, you time or self-care time. So I guess sitting down, would you suggest people like keep a journal and write down the things that would, I guess, while they're writing them would make you feel more relaxed? Is self care just about being relaxed and calm? Maybe that is for me. Yeah, I think for you. So it's, it's like tapping in. It's so hard to figure out what we need. I, I, I struggle with this as well. Um, so it's like, can you take literally after, after you watch this video or listen to this podcast, like, um, or listen to us take five seconds and just like sit in your body and
Starting point is 00:08:00 literally ask yourself what you need. And it could just be a nap. It could be so simple or it could be, can I go outside for five minutes and enjoy the sun? So it's kind of tapping in. We're constantly asking everyone else what they need and helping them. So I love your idea of journaling. If you're organized, that's a great way to do it. Essentially, for me, it is, I look at it weekly and like, how much time I have, how much am I working? Where can I carve out? And I talked to my husband, I'm like, I need to do these things for myself. And you like, help me make this happen. Isn't it crazy that we have to schedule it in,
Starting point is 00:08:42 but we really do. You have to take active participation in you taking care of yourself. And so that might mean sitting down with like a notepad and being like, okay, here's where I have time. This is what I would, I want to do is how I want to spend that time. That's for me, for me alone. That's going to make me feel like this, or, you know, this is the, going to be the benefit for me. I mean, self-care can also
Starting point is 00:09:05 be things like booking a doctor's appointment, like what you said, like getting a massage or you know, go to see a chiro, whatever that might be. Self-care could be time with friends, you know, where you're, you know, having a glass of wine and you're laughing with friends, you know, self-care, maybe self-care is spending more time with your kids at the park or doing something fun with them. Cause all you feel like you're doing is yelling at them the whole time i don't know so yeah first figure out what what's well what self-care would be to you i guess the feeling like if you're looking for something to bring you joy make you less stressed or whatever that would be and then you know schedule it yeah schedule the time in because it's it's not so crazy about the schedule or self-care time in.
Starting point is 00:09:46 But I find it's our modern life. And for me, I love I'm a calendar person. I know not everyone is, but I find it helpful to book it off and have it in the calendar because then I'm more accountable. Right. And especially like a great one is meeting friends, going for a walk, having a drink. It doesn't matter. And then again, accountability, they'll make you show up as well. Yeah. I'm like, yeah, it's, it is what it is. And I, at the end of the day, I'm like, I want to prioritize getting, getting some time for me. So I'm, I'm okay with scheduling. I like one of our members is like mine is yoga my daughters know not to call me at those times yeah because sometimes it's like you we have to justify do you find yourself justifying your self-care time not anymore um I think because it's I'm I
Starting point is 00:10:41 realize how I'm a better I show up as a better person, right? Like my, my, my child, my husband, they all know. So, you know, my newest self care thing, which I never thought I would actually get to is meditation. I'm meditating morning and night now, just to help keep me grounded and my nervous system regulated. And I never thought I would have time to do this. And I'm honestly shocked that I've been doing this for three weeks and making the time, you know, and I'm like, bye, like you're eating breakfast. I'm going to go meditate. You guys are fine without me. Yeah, well, I've been I'm back into I got back on working out in the morning. And whenever I do it,
Starting point is 00:11:22 I think it's less about working out and more about my time. But yesterday, um, I wasn't feeling so hot. I got a migraine. It's been a busy weekend and my husband was going to take the kids out for a driving lesson and then we're going to go for lunch first. And they're all like, Oh, are you going to come? And I was just like, yeah, I'll come. Like I didn't, I didn't want to go.
Starting point is 00:11:42 Like I wanted to go, I wanted to spend time with them, but I just was like, oh, I would just like kill for just to stay in bed. And my one kid was like, you don't have to come. Like, why don't you just stay in bed? Like, and I'm like, well, you guys probably don't even want me to go anyway. Cause I'm like tired and grouchy, but that guilt is real because like, I'm also like, well, I want to spend time. It's going to be fun with them. It's time with my family. But at the same time, I was like, well, I want to spend time. It's going to be fun with them. It's time with my family. But at the same time, I was like, oh, what do I really want to do right now? I really just want to stay here and then chill out. So here's another comment.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Sometimes self-care is unscheduled time and enjoying doing nothing at all. Oh, that's yeah. Here we are trying to schedule and find out what our self-care is. Nothing. I love this. We glamorize being super busy, but it doesn't work for everyone all the time. Oh,
Starting point is 00:12:31 that's a, that's important. Self-care can be doing nothing. Yeah. A hundred percent. And I feel like the thing that I saw in that comment was not feeling guilty about it. Yeah. You know,
Starting point is 00:12:44 having those emotions. Yeah. A hundred percent. And yeah, having a free calendar and just being like, I don't plan anything Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday nights, or, you know, like, and just having time for you and your family and yourself. You must have a lot of these conversations and you must have a lot of conversations with people who just are constantly just trying, cause you're with them spending time on themselves. So they're either, they're probably feeling guilty or talking about how hard it is to find the time. Have you, have you noticed an uptick on this? Is this like a, has it always been like this or you just feel like it's gotten worse in the last few years? Like I've been doing this for 12 years and it's it's it's always been like this we of course you know
Starting point is 00:13:29 I wish I had a different answer Gina but I feel like it's until you have either a breakthrough or a breakdown or a you know like there's a reason why you have to prioritize yourself. You just don't. And then you, you know, get become exhausted or burnout. Or for me, what I'm seeing a lot and myself is inflammation. So I have eczema. Eczema for me is my balance in my body. If it's coming out, I'm not taking care of myself. So I have to prioritize myself. So I slow down and I start taking better care of myself. For clients, it might be acne, rosacea. So I see, you know, I see a lot of inflammation. And I always tell people it's, it's your, it's your body telling you you're out of balance and that you need to start taking care of yourself again.
Starting point is 00:14:21 Yeah. Would you say you either have a breakthrough or a breakdown? Oh my gosh. That's a big one. I also, you know, cause we talk a lot about skincare in the program and digestion, how your digestive system is tied to your skin. Well, your skin is your body's largest organ and obviously very reflective, especially of stress. And you know, when things are out of balance, especially that microbiome um do you have here's another one great conversation i have backed away from anything on social media related to self-care as that was stress enough yeah i hear you i have to face what i need and what everyone else is doing as it caused stress to think i need to do all of that i
Starting point is 00:15:00 yeah i got you i was stressing about trying to not stress. Okay, so you have any tips for us? What do you what do you got for us? You got? What can we do about it? What can we do about it? I'm like, okay, so let's I'm all for being off social media and feeling less pressure to do all the things and be that perfect person. Also, no one's perfect. You know, it's all it's, it's all don't worry about it, what you see there. Yeah, and I think it's just, let's make it really simple. And let's just really, like take a breath, like just breathing five seconds can be enough of a self-care for you during the day. So for me, yeah, it's just finding those, those things. And if you have goals for yourself,
Starting point is 00:15:51 where you want to once a month, have dinner with your friends, you know, make that happen. But if making too many plans stresses you out, then yes, do less in that and, and say that's your self-care. Yeah, that's such a good point i mean as social media stresses you stresses you out get off social media that's self-care shutting it down right and if you if you think okay i gotta get out more but then you get out more and it's stressing you out then maybe that's not the thing that you need to do for self-care maybe people in your feeling you need to get out more but really you need time alone with a good book, right? Like that's what you need. You don't need to be out there doing whatever. So it really is about finding what really works for you on an individual basis.
Starting point is 00:16:34 I love it. A hundred percent. And I'm like, I don't think this is trendy anymore, but let's make it come back. Slow living, like slow lifestyle, like that busyness really disconnects us from ourselves. And we see it in cortisol and stress coming out in the body and digestion and skin and all the things. So I know for myself, 2024 has been about like slowing down and getting into just a slower pace of life that feels manageable, where I can have a bit more time, you know, again, reading a book, just lying in bed talking to my husband, like, it doesn't have to be anything. I don't have to check it off a list, or it doesn't have to be cool. It sounds wonderful. It sounds like, all right, I'm into it. Oh my gosh. Um, let's start talking about some skins because, because, um, uh, a skincare routine, nighttime routine,
Starting point is 00:17:35 there are some things that we can do there because we have to take care of ourselves. And at the same time, this can be really beneficial for us. And so I know you have all these amazing skincare products. Before we get into the routine of itself, I actually want to ask about skincare products, because you see so many, this ingredient, that ingredient, you know, there's you're speaking of social media, you're bombarded by so many different products. And what I love about yours is they are just so back to basic, a lot of science behind them, you know, a lot of research behind them as well. Um, just like, I don't want to say no frails because I'm not under, undervaluing your products, like really high quality, um, super effective, but simple, simple, which I think is good when it comes to
Starting point is 00:18:24 our skincare. So you want to just share a little bit about, cause I think, you know, especially I'm a big for women in business and all of that. And then just a bit about your, your skincare line that you have in the business that you run a little bit. Yeah. And I, I love what you said, Gina. And I, it's like for me, plant medicine is the Holy grail. Like I want to be using like whole plant ingredients like calendula, sea buckthorn, rosehip, like powerful ingredients that are directly from the earth. They haven't been manipulated besides like being cold pressed. We get full amounts of vitamins and nutrients. Essentially, they're nutrient dense products.
Starting point is 00:19:06 I'm taking your word, that. I love it. So but really simple, and also ingredients that our skin can naturally handle and absorb easily. So yes, again, it's like back to basics is a great way to talk about it. This is what I was really fascinated in, like, what were we doing before, you know, all the kind of manmade synthetic stuff became more popular? Like, how are we taking care of our skin naturally? So that idea. So yeah, our product province bath carry is really it's a very oil forward product line where there's lots of plant oils. We have oil cleansing, which I love to say like is what Cleopatra would have done. So it's really simple. It keeps the microbiome intact. You know, I've seen clients for 12 years and I've been using the products. Like it's amazing how just kind of using natural ingredients. And there's tons of brands as well now that are in the same vein of the, of province Pothcary can really support the skin. So my philosophy is supporting the skin, not causing damage, irritation, inflammation, because that, you know, increases aging of the skin, just like stress in our body
Starting point is 00:20:21 will increase aging of our body. Um, so how do we just naturally take care of it? And in our modern life, the biggest thing I tell everyone is, you know, you got us on water, Gina. Thank you. Everyone is for the skin. It does. It really does. Yeah. It's amazing. Um, and moisturizing. So we live, if you live currently a modern lifestyle, you are generally dehydrated topically. So adding a moisturizer to your routine is really important, I think, because most people air conditioning, like we all need to really just help our body like hold the moisture. Because our daily life, our stressful, busy lives just dehydrate us, deplete us. So it's about replenishing, replenishing. Yeah, and I love the nutrient rich thing when you think about this, because we talk about our your skin is your body's largest
Starting point is 00:21:22 organ, and it gets nutrient deficient, I guess, as well. You know, you don't need to slap a whole bunch of chemicals on it. And I think people, when it comes to skin, they think they think they're either it's just sunscreen, which of course is so important. Yeah. But beyond that, it's like, what can I put on for wrinkles? Which if you take care of your skin, you're also taking care of your, your, your being proactive when it comes to your skin aging and wrinkles as well. Um, I love that. What a great way to think. And I just want to say too, it's, you offer a very luxurious skincare line. It's like, it's, it's, it seems very luxury. I've seen, and I've seen where you're selling it,
Starting point is 00:22:03 you're selling it everywhere. Um, but I, love that. It's something that you can feel really good about doing, you know, rather than just putting on your, being stressed out about your skincare routine. Cause you want your wrinkles. Like, do you know what I mean? Like in a skincare can be really stressful. What am I putting on? What am I doing? Cause it's all like, am I, my wrinkles going away rather than looking at like, am I giving my skin the love and care that it needs? Right. I love that. In case nobody's told you weight loss goes beyond the old, just eat less and move more
Starting point is 00:22:34 narrative. And that's where Felix comes in. Felix is redefining weight loss for Canadians with a smarter, more personalized approach to help you crush your health goals is here. Losing weight is about more than diet and exercise. It can also be about our genetics, hormones, metabolism. Felix connects you with online licensed healthcare practitioners who understand that everybody is different and can pair your healthy lifestyle with the right support to reach your goals. Start your visit today at felix.ca. That's F-E-L-I-X dot C-A. Okay. So finding the right products for your skin. I know you mentioned oil, kind of oily,
Starting point is 00:23:17 and people are like, oh, I have oil skin. But the whole oil on oil thing, it's not a bad thing. Oil is so great for your skin. I remember this from work. In fact, you know what Julie and I did a whole, um, it's on YouTube and if you're watching or you're listening, Julie and I, she took me through her whole skincare line. I'm sure you have some new products since then. And we did some fun stuff. So if you're interested in hearing more about our actual skincare products, um, we did like a whole, like, I think it was like a half hour, hour long talk on it. So it's, it's over on YouTube. So you can find it over there. Um, I know you wanted to show us some stuff today. You wanted to talk about some things that we can do as well. What do you got for us? Yeah. So I'm like
Starting point is 00:23:54 the secret to wrinkles. Okay. Tell me. Okay. We should have led with this. I know. Right. Um, so one thing, so I'm like, I know Gina in our last segment, we talked about massage and massage might seem like basic, basic, simple, but most of us don't know how to massage our face. So massage is great when you're applying your products. In the last segment, we went over it. I think we linked to a massage you could do. I can send you the link for the massage.
Starting point is 00:24:25 So it's all about flow. You need blood flow and lymph flow through the skin for it to look radiant, alive. You need to get the flow going. So with wrinkles, when you have, you know, I have 11s. We, a lot of us have 11s. I like that. Look at that. Like it's a, that's the old Star Trek reference. It's all about, this is just stagnation. So this is showing tension in our muscles that it's stagnant and stuck. So it's all about how do we increase the flow? So today I wanted to just tell you about fascia release. So it's super simple. You don't need any product. All you need is your hands. And it's, it's like the, it's one of the original kind of ways of taking care of your muscles. So a lot of times if you
Starting point is 00:25:18 have sore muscles or issues, you'll get it done on your body, but for your face, it's super simple. So for instance, all we're doing is dry skin, dry hands, and we're just trying to release the stagnation that's being held in our muscles that are showing up as wrinkles. So for me, like 11s here, you can have crow's feet, literally anywhere, but I'll just show you a few places. So if you have 11s here, just literally anchoring down your skin, and then you just take your other hand and you just pull gently. And eventually you can add a little bit more force. But this is just helping stretch, release that tension that's being held there.
Starting point is 00:25:58 You can do the other side. Kind of like smoothing out. Like if you were to like smooth out those two lines above your nose between your eyes okay yeah and then just pinch down Gina so just pinch like in between and then pull apart um as you're pinching and you'll see like I do this a lot after driving I just find myself you know focused and frowning and concentrating when I'm driving. So when I stop my car, a lot of times we'll just take 30 seconds or 10 seconds, like it doesn't have to be very long, and just kind of release all the tension I can feel that I have built up in this
Starting point is 00:26:38 area. So this is like one of my favorite ways. And it doesn't matter if you've had Botox or not, like you can do this to those lines at any time, just to help release this area completely and, and bring blood flow. That makes sense. Because from what I know, like from those 11s of lines is from frowning and thinking and whatever, and you're trained that way. They literally like they pull that way and that's where they get trained. And that's why you get muscles around there. Like, sorry, wrinkles and all the places that you get wrinkles because the way your muscles are formed. So if they're tense and always like that, then you can just relax. That seems so easy. It's so easy. And yeah, like now you can do your forehead and literally it's just kind of targeting like, where do you hold tension? Our face tells a lot about us and how we hold tension. For me,
Starting point is 00:27:31 it's like lines on here on my forehead. Because again, we're expressing all the time. So even just kind of releasing the tension these muscles are holding. Super, super simple. I just love it because it's like the busiest person has time to literally do this. You can do this while you're emailing or after a meeting. And it's literally just find those places where you have tension in your face and release them. And I can also share a link with more like fascia release that people can do but it's super simple and it's the simplest self-care act that i love to tell clients about and they'll see results well and you would know because you deal with people's faces ongoing all the time and have been for years what about when
Starting point is 00:28:18 i saw you like doing that like the the um like the smoothing out what about those rollers or those what are they called like the roller things or those gua smoothing out, what about those rollers or those, what are they called? Like the roller things or those gua sha things or whatever you fan of those? Yeah. Yes. So for me, I'm like, Oh, there you go. Yeah. I have the thing. I don't have a gua sha stone. Gua sha is amazing. If you have, if you have a gua sha stone, amazing. So you're again, a lot of the times you're doing fascia release with your gua sha stone and you don't even realize it um so that's kind of the one one way of using it um for me i love i know we talked about this last time probably is i love a studded jade roller so this is what we sell at province pop carry and this is what i use in the treatment room so something something that really bringing texture. So this is like a phone roller for your
Starting point is 00:29:05 face is how I think about it. So amazing. You know, I love dry brushing. A lot of people dry brush their bodies. Great, easy way of stimulating lymph. So I'll do, I love dry brushing my face, especially for dark circles, puffiness, all of that. Um, so it's, I love tools. I love massage. I love tools. I love anything that kind of brings you results quickly and you can do it less. It also makes you feel like you're doing something to have the right tool to do anything is I
Starting point is 00:29:44 think makes whatever that you are doing easy. So dry brushing for your face. Can we just talk about that a little bit? Yeah, obviously dry brushing for your skin. So you're getting off old dead skin cells because your skin's constantly regenerate. Some people talk a lot about weight loss for sure, especially when you're in maintenance, because your body is changing and adjusting and your skin is regenerating around all that weight that you've lost. So dry brushing off old cells, but also your lymphatic system. Yeah. Just get so the so dry brushing, ideally, if you have capacity, but in the morning when your lymph has slowed down overnight, well, because you've been sleeping. So when you're waking up, so lymph doesn't have
Starting point is 00:30:26 a pump the way that our blood has a pump. So blood is being pumped through our body by our heart. Lymph is being pumped naturally when we walk and move, but otherwise it has no real way of getting around. And that's why then they say, do you like a, one of those bouncy, you know, those trampolini things, rebounders and stuff like that. That's's what that's good for your lymphatic system okay exactly because you want to move it and so puffiness around your eyes specifically in the mornings is all lymph so that's why for me that's why i dry brush a lot but yeah for your body and that's why you're always moving up with a dry brush. So from your ankles, your feet upwards to your lymph nodes.
Starting point is 00:31:10 So big lymph nodes are like under your armpits, in your groin. So yeah, so for the dry brush for your face. So this is a great tool. So the difference is, this is really soft. So if you have a makeup brush, you could try it with a makeup brush. You know, problems with Pothgary, we have multiple dry brushes. But the difference is this is very soft. The facial dry brush is soft and okay for your face.
Starting point is 00:31:36 And then the body dry brush is quite rough and never put it on your face. Okay. And the idea with the dry brush is... Definitely don't do that. So, um, yeah, the, the idea with the dry brush, we have a video, I explain everything. I, you know, every tool comes with a video and an explanation. Um, but essentially, you know, you can do this while you're making coffee or talking, you know, like just doesn't matter when you do this in the morning. Um, even when you get to work, if that's when you have time, but you're really stimulating and draining your lymph all the way down your neck is what you're trying to do.
Starting point is 00:32:14 I love it. What's more important, your daytime routine, like your morning routine or your nighttime routine then? So if you wear makeup and sunscreen, I would say it's more important to make sure you're cleansing every night, um, so that you're not going to sleep with those products on would be my priority for your skin so that at nighttime, your skin has time to breathe, regenerate all of those things. Um, if you're not wearing makeup ever and just, you know, products, then you're probably okay to like skip a cleanse here and there. So, yeah, I would just say like if you're if you have makeup and sunscreen, please, please, please take it off. Your skin will be so much happier. So outside of skin sunscreen, because I know that's important.
Starting point is 00:33:03 What is your like can't live without product oh I'm like it's oil it's oil you know this Gina it's an oil serum so I love like right here I have my oil it's a frankincense oil um which I love so I add it to my moisturizer morning and night and it just hydrates, gives me the glow, replenishes hydration. So I love adding like a plant oil face serum to my moisturizer, to my sunscreen, um, and applying those onto my face morning and night. So that's, that's my go-to. Do you find that we have some sort of inversion to oils? Like I, you know, cause I think maybe my generation i was like i was raised that you just dry the shit out of your face like that
Starting point is 00:33:50 especially if you got pimples you were like looking for stuff like that that was just gonna like dry your skin out and like you were like don't use oils and like if you use oils you're blocking your pores you're making everything worse is that just me or like our generation or do you find that people you have to kind of do a bit of education. So I highly suggest you watch that video that Julie and I did. It's over on YouTube. It's just even like, it's just great knowledge about skin and skincare in general. But do you find people have like, they're concerned about oils on their skin? yeah 100 so and i think you know the misinformation has come from petroleum-based oils being so popular um and really they weren't you
Starting point is 00:34:33 know like natural oils calendula apricot avocado hemp like these are the oils i'm talking about i'm not talking you know uh coconut oil do not put coconut oil on your face, please. Or canola like, um, they won't have legs maybe, but not your face. Yeah. Yeah. And no petroleum based oils because those will clog your pores. Um, yeah, it's a lot of information. And even like, even, you know, 2024, I'm still almost one in two to three clients come in and they're washing their face with soap, which is like, even if it's a targeted cleanser for your face, and it foams, I'm like, do not use it because it will throw your microbiome off, it will dry out your skin, it will bring premature aging signs of it, it will bring wrinkles. So just kind of putting aside your cleanser, if it has any foaming agent,
Starting point is 00:35:27 even if it's gentle, do not put it on your face. It's great for your body, but do not use it. So milk cleanser, cream cleanser, oil cleanser is like where you would go. But yeah, I'm still like, it's just everything, you know, there's a lot of marketing around a lot of things that it becomes really confusing. Here's a number. I love your serum I received at the Auric conference. Yeah. So Julie's team was there and had a bunch of products and she did some of the swag bag stuff. And yeah, it was like the Hyaluronic.
Starting point is 00:36:01 Which one was it? It was like the B. Oh, it might have been the the rejuvenated hydrating face rejuvenated yes that's exactly what i guess yeah yeah yeah i use that oh yeah okay so first of all um exciting news you're going to do a giveaway um yeah so people all they have to do is tell us your favorite way to show yourself self-care, um, and show yourself love. That's it. So if you're in the group, you can enter to win that. Um, but more than that, you're also offering a discount to anyone listening right now. Gina 25 is the code

So get it while it's hot. Get it while it's hot. And they would go to provinceapothecary.com. Provinceapothecary.com. You also have an Instagram page, provinceapothecary as well. And then Supernatural Facials. That's where my facial business is.
Starting point is 00:37:11 So full-time, I have a wonderful business partner running Province Apothecary. And I get to see clients and do facials every day, which is where my passion and kind of my purpose is, is I love working one-on-one with people, helping them. So yeah, I do facials in Thornberry, Meaford and Owen Sound. I love that. That's probably where you got same with me. I was like one-on-one helping people figure out what they need in order to lose weight. You probably put so much hands-on experience of actually helping people make a difference in their skin. So I love that. Final words, what do you want people to know? Was it self-care, skin care?
Starting point is 00:37:50 What's your final takeaway for people today listening? I'm really excited to see what people put in to share what their self-care is. Because honestly, before the segment, I asked all my friends what their, their, their self care was, because I was interested, because I'm like, I know what I do, but I'm very face focused, like, I really prioritize taking care of my skin. And I know not everyone has time to do that, or, or makes that a priority. So I think it's just like, let's inspire each other. And, and I love just kind of learning. And even friends of mine were talking about how they think about it in a monthly, weekly, daily basis.
Starting point is 00:38:33 And I was like, I never thought about that. This is a great way to look at it. It's manageable. It's sustainable. So, yeah, I'm like, let's be each other's cheerleaders. Let's help each other. You know, hold accountability if we need it. Let's embrace slow life and let's inspire each other. Slow life.
Starting point is 00:38:53 I love that. And I absolutely adore you. And there were so many aha moments in this conversation for me as well. I think I should know what to do. Finding out what works for me personally is a whole other thing. I know I got some great takeaways. I hope everyone who is either watching or listening did as well. I know you did.
