Starting point is 00:01:16 Well, yeah, you definitely are. Well, welcome to Midweek Motivation here in the, where am I? I don't even know where I am in the maintenance and mindfulness group. So if you've been listening to Gina this week or to myself, you know that here in Ontario, we've been having an ice storm. It's been going for three days.
Starting point is 00:01:37 We had a bit of a break and it started back up today where I am in Southern Ontario. And about 13 minutes ago, my area has lost power. So I'm sitting in front of a big beautiful window. I have some light. I have a connection that hopefully sticks because I did want to talk to all of our members today on our last midweek for a few weeks. And for those that are not watching and are listening, Gina is not here, but Kim is here, weight loss group manager. Thank you Kim for joining me today. Oh no problem. Yes this storm of yours definitely threw some loopholes in first with Gina kind of getting stuck in travel en route to where she's
Starting point is 00:02:16 heading in your direction and not being able to make it. Yes in my direction. Here in BC we've got great connections so yeah I'm not confident I can carry this without you. So please hang in there. Well, if everything goes black, just our members just need to know we are safe. We just are getting, having some connection issues. So like I said, going out with a bang because it is week 12 of the maintenance program. And just like it is week 12 of the weight loss program
Starting point is 00:02:43 for if we have any weight loss members listening. And this week we've been talking next steps. We've been talking about where members, you know, need to go in the next few weeks or what they need to be thinking about and, you know, going through this this maintenance program, this 91 days, I think for a lot of our members was a new experience, but was also, you know, an eye-opening one, hopefully one that helped them make a decision about where they're going to go next, how they're feeling, work through some issues and associations. So what's the talk been like in the weight loss group? I'm curious about members that are ready for maintenance. Like what are they saying? What are they asking? What are they curious to know
Starting point is 00:03:24 about this group? I think the big thing is that, you know, there's a lot of excitement about members that are ready for maintenance? Like, what are they saying? What are they asking? What are they curious to know about this group? I think the big thing is that, you know, there's a lot of excitement about people feeling like they are ready to take that next step. I would say the big question and I should apologize as well my tech difficulty is that my dog who just had surgery is whining in the background and I can't get her to be quiet. The Okay, That's understandable.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Right? Yeah. So just excuse the background noise. But I think the big question that they have is like, what's different? What am I in for with this? What can I expect and what do I need to do differently from what I've been doing in the weight loss? And yeah, I think the big topic on that
Starting point is 00:04:06 is just the intention of where people are. When you are ready to transition into maintenance, it's not just that you physically lost your weight and hit your goal. You have to transition that mindset to from I am losing weight, I'm looking to lose, I'm still working towards my goal, to I am at my goal. What's next?
Starting point is 00:04:29 Yeah, and you know, this is new territory for everybody. You know, we say all the time that there's not another maintenance program out there. There's not another weight loss plan that talks about next steps and where to go next and where you can feel supported and normalizing that it's not about being at that low, it's low all the time and normalizing that there are going
Starting point is 00:04:52 to be bumps in the road and a bump in the road doesn't necessarily mean that you are slipping back or that you have to slip back. So I think if there's anything that we want those new members coming in to know, I know we've had some new members join the group already and having a poke around. You know, wanting those new members to know that you're here to feel supported. It's not, we're not throwing these baby birds out of the nest to learn to fly on their own. So I hope any new members that are listening and joining us, you know, when we do Start Up Again on the 21st Are feeling excited, nervous, we can understand, fearful a little bit, we can understand, but also excited. I hope there's that feeling of excitement.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Yeah, so just talking about the next couple of weeks. So, no, no, go ahead. Go ahead, I know we're probably a little bit late here with our connections. I have worries about the members heading into maintenance from the weight loss group, because I know how amazing the community is here in the maintenance group.
Starting point is 00:05:47 I know the really important work that the members in the maintenance community are doing in order to get themselves to the place where they're ready to move on to that. I'm ready to live my life and look good and feel good. And that's the work that's being put in here. You can hear all the conversations that you guys are having. It's really such a warm and welcoming community that while there are some people that
Starting point is 00:06:08 have some fears and are a little bit worried I'm not worried even a little bit about them. Good I'm not worried either because I know we have a great space for them here. So just talking about the next couple weeks and just to let everybody know what's happening. So we are here in the maintenance and mindfulness group having a bit of a spring slowdown. So week 12 is coming to an end. We are taking the next couple of weeks to reset and recharge. However, the group remains open. So the group is open.
Starting point is 00:06:41 The team is working. We will be checking in, even though it's a little bit less, we will be checking in so members have a place to come. There just won't be any new lives. We won't be doing midweek motivation. We won't be doing our mindset Mondays over the next couple of weeks, but posts will still be coming up.
Starting point is 00:06:58 Members will still be checking in. And this is a great time for our new members actually to have a look around, get comfortable, and you know get their bearings of how the group looks, where it works, how it works, how it's organized. We have this maintenance guide that really lays out all of the need to know. Why do we have a maintenance program? How is the maintenance program built? What do I need to know going forward? So I think that maintenance guide is really there
Starting point is 00:07:29 as the starting point and a place where they can check in in the next two weeks and feel comfortable about next steps in that respect. I know that when you have your, like you have the new spring group coming up, April 21st as well. And there's a welcome guide there. So our members might be familiar with that. And you have the new spring group coming up April 21st as well. There's a welcome guide there.
Starting point is 00:07:46 So our members might be familiar with that. They come in. They can have a poke around, see how the group works. And then that same intention can be brought into the maintenance group where they can come in, have a poke around, start some conversations, and get a real feel and get comfortable for where they're going to be on April 21st when we start up again. Yeah and I think so I just go ahead just going to say I think for some of the members that are you know used to going or
Starting point is 00:08:17 they're going through the program maybe don't feel like they've solidified their weight at all. This is a great opportunity for you to kind of breathe and take a step back and refocus and reset. Like what do I want to get out of the next session? If you feel like you still need to do more work on solidifying, if you're somebody who's coming back into it, or even if you are a new member who's leaving the weight loss group and just getting in, really taking the time over the next couple weeks to sort of refocus and think about what your goals are as you solidify. Like how do you want to feel when you come out of the next 91 days? Because as we know around here with maintenance, it's not
Starting point is 00:08:56 about the scale really anymore. It's really about that feeling. And so getting to, you know, picking some goals that maybe you want to reach by the end of the 91 day, setting some intentions that you can reflect on throughout your journey. This is a great opportunity when you have a little bit more bandwidth, because there's not as much happening for you to kind of take stock of where you're at
Starting point is 00:09:16 and where you want to go. I love that you said there, like, how do you want to feel at the end of the next session? And I just want to make a point that if you've been through the maintenance program once, and you feel like you're not ready, it's totally fine to do another round. Because yes, it's about how you want to feel at the end, and you want to feel confident that you want to feel secure, and like you trust
Starting point is 00:09:39 yourself. But I think it's also about how do you want to think at the end of this, you know, with you still are having that negative self-talk come in, and maybe that's where you need work. Or maybe you're still thinking about those fearful emotions or that self-doubt is starting to creep up. If those are feelings that we're still having, how can we change our thought process? Maybe that could be part of the goal going through it again. How do you want to think at the end of this? Who do you want to think like? Do you want to be able to think like this person that is maintaining? Or do you, you know,
Starting point is 00:10:12 we don't want to be stuck here where we're thinking like, I've got these these fears, I've got self doubt, I've got these beliefs that are holding me back. So how do you want to think at the end of it all? You know, you want to, that's, you know, could be a goal. And we talked so much about being in tune to your body. And it really is also being in tune to your mind, that self talk, your emotions, those feelings, all of that, that comes up. So how do you want to feel at the end? And how do you want to think at the end? So any member that feels like they've been through this round once, just like the way lots group, sometimes it takes more than one time to feel comfortable, to feel confident, and it's totally fine to do another round of the program. The other thing I wanted to say is that we have some members that are
Starting point is 00:10:56 are ready to move on. They're ready to get going, and this is where the next two weeks here in the group can also be that reflection point. It can be a place where they are just thinking, you know, how do I want this to look for me come the next round? I'm not ready to do another round of the maintenance program, but I'm ready to get out there. I'm ready to maybe test things out. I'm ready to be more flexible, have a bit more freedom with choices. And I think this is where those next two weeks can be really beneficial. And this is where also the maintenance
Starting point is 00:11:28 and mindfulness group is still your community. You know, of course we're running the program, but it's also a place for those members who are beyond the program to be able to come back, connect, if you're feeling like you're struggling, if you're feeling like you're challenging, or if you just want to share a win. I mean, we're all about sharing the wins as well. So this is
Starting point is 00:11:48 where the group is still for you. You don't have to think that you've done the 91 day maintenance program and you are on your way. So that's how the group can still work for you. Let's take a minute out to hear from our podcast sponsor today. I mean, listen, we're always talking about how important it is to take care of your skin. Your skin is your body's largest organ. We also talk about the importance of creating routines, especially a nighttime routine that can help us sleep. But this one here is for the new moms because Aveeno has a product for newborn babies. Skin is
Starting point is 00:12:25 the first line of defense and baby skin is about 30% thinner than our mature skin making it even more important to take action to help strengthen skin moisture barrier. So using the power of oats as the hero ingredient, Aveeno baby harnesses the power of oat to help achieve skin hydration. So if you're looking to learn more about how you can maintain and strengthen your baby's skin care, head over to the website avino.ca. That's A-V-E-E-N-O.CA. The other thing I wanted to do is I wanted to just go through,
Starting point is 00:13:02 you know, we've come to the end of the program almost. I wanted to talk about a few celebrations that our members have had and, you know, we talked I don't know if it was last week or earlier this week, Jean and I were talking about that sparkle, that feeling of when you hit your weight loss goal and you see that number and you're on such a high and you feel so great and you feel so amazing that that can sometimes start to dim a little bit that sparkle that glimmer can sometimes dim a
Starting point is 00:13:31 little bit. You know because you've hit this big milestone you're trying to figure out what's my end game where do I want to be next time how am I going to get there and so we just wanted to point out we had asked some in the group this week about what surprised people about their journey so far and we did it on on Tuesday which was oh yesterday April Fool's Day and we're asking people you know how they feel now and what may have surprised them so I just want to go over some member comments they got. So the first one was from Susan. So Susan said the amazing ability now after a few years in maintenance to accurately predict almost to the ounce what my weight will be before I even step on the scale. So this
Starting point is 00:14:17 goes so far beyond, I'm just gonna grab my glasses, this goes so far beyond you know looking for that lowest low and what maintenance can really what maintenance can really bring for you. There we go. I'm not usually reading off my phone. I usually have a nice big screen ahead of me. Yeah, this is such I thought this is like an example of where you can end up with your mindset after you go through maintenance, you know, the program and you feel solidified is just that confidence in yourself. And I thought this comment was a really great example of that. I agree. And so the next one we have Sylvia. So Sylvia was in the group and she was saying, so she now have her pain was eliminated in her hip once she started caring for her body.
Starting point is 00:15:07 So I love how this feeling, how this victory again away from the scale, caring for your body through movement, caring through your body, through feeding it and keeping it hydrated. Yeah, we were all in this weight loss journey together. That was really our goal. And now that we're in maintenance and we're not looking for that lowest low, these are the glimmers. These are the sparkles that we're seeing. We had one from Shannon too. If we can put Shannon's comment up. So what surprised me the most is letting go of trying to do everything perfect or it's
Starting point is 00:15:40 a failure. Very big win for me. That's such a great one. Like that whole, we see a lot of it in the weight loss group with people wanting to, you know, claiming they're type A and they went through the program and had to do everything exactly perfectly through the program and transitioning. And I think that's where some of the fear comes from
Starting point is 00:16:01 when people transition into maintenance and not having that sort of the fear comes from when people transition into maintenance and not having that sort of the food plan and that to kind of you know Gina telling you what you need to do every day for 91 days that scary part of it can be like how do I know if I'm doing it perfectly if somebody's not telling me and you know you're new you know you're doing it perfectly for you when you feel that way like like that. It may not be perfect, but it can be your perfect and exactly what you need to be able to maintain and feel your best. Yeah, I think that's such an important point that it's your perfect, right? It's what's
Starting point is 00:16:38 working for you. And I think that this, we want to get out of that mindset of perfection. Like, we know there's going to be bumps in the road. We know that there's going to be times where we're not able to stick to our routine and we're not able to really do all those healthy habits all the time. We know that. And I think having that mindset that that is okay, that we have the ability to check ourselves before we wreck ourselves and get back on track when we need to, it's going to keep you from spiraling back down to old habits or just feeling like you've been
Starting point is 00:17:11 defeated and what's the point moving forward. I think that is such an amazing place to be when we have that mindset where, you know, there's hope there. It's not a lost cause. It's, you know, one bump in the road or one imperfection, whatever that might be perceived to be, is, is, it doesn't make the whole journey a lost cause. And I love that our members are seeing that now that they're not, you know, feeling like they failed because there's, you know, a small bump in the road. Okay, then we had one from Lori. So for me, it's a sense of overall calmness when you are eating better and sleeping better. Your body is so much happier. That, I mean, that's it.
Starting point is 00:17:53 That's the goal, isn't it? Just you know that, I mean, that's so much happier just feeling that way. It's that that overall calmness around everything. So that's definitely like these are for anyone who is new in the group that is wondering like what's my you know to point and what I said at the beginning think about your goals over the group like it's now that it's not about weight loss these are some of the amazing things that come from you continuing to take care from your of your body and feeling this will reinforce you wanting to make healthy choices for yourself.
Starting point is 00:18:27 So every one of these things that these members are sharing is motivation for them to keep taking care of themselves because you want to keep feeling fantastic. You want to be feeling calm. You don't want to get to a place where you're starting to feel concerned or worried or you start to like obsess a little bit over where you are, what you're eating, where the scale is. You don't want to get to that point. So, you know, do make the best choices you can to be consistent with taking care of yourself
Starting point is 00:18:54 so that you can continue this like feeling of calmness and feeling good and your body being happy. I really, you know, this is one of the ultimate goal and to have this feeling that you know, this is one of the ultimate goal and to have this feeling that you know that you are doing exactly what you need to do. You know, you're eating better, you're sleeping better, your body is happier. And when, you know, your body is happier, but your mindset is happier too. And that's where that calmness can come from.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Knowing that you are doing these things day in and day out that make a difference. You are that person now that is who you are. I think that just brings that sense of calmness. I think, you know, new members coming into the program. This is where this this this perhaps this feeling of fear or self doubt or or apprehension might be because they they don't believe that yet, right? They're not at this place where Lori is yet, where these few members are. And we just wanted to give them a glimpse into what it can be at the end.
Starting point is 00:19:55 Like, yes, it's work. Of course we say it's work and the mental part is not done and there's so much to go through. But at the end, you put the work in, at the end, this is the place where you're going to come out on the other side. And of course we couldn't forget to highlight Amanda because Amanda, I mean, she really told us, you know, what we all wanted to know. So Amanda said, when I drink alcohol and drink lots of water with it,
Starting point is 00:20:18 I can still get a buzz. Well, there you go, Amanda. I mean, if that, if that's the end game, if people want to know that's a goal right there, water will, yeah, if water's not going to kill their buzz and still you know be good for your body then there you go. If that's what you learned I'm here for it too. I'm here for that. No, and we appreciate that Amanda did this research for us but I think that we'll probably do a little bit of research into this ourselves specifically the next time we see each other at the end of the next program. Right. That's right. I can't believe that's what we think of how fast these few months were. You know, think of how quickly the next three months are going to be as well. And hopefully it'll be in some sunshine and no more power outages and no more ice storms. We're waiting for that sun to come. So then I just wanted to, there's two other comments that I highlighted
Starting point is 00:21:12 from the group this week and really it's about the end goal and where we want our members to be. We love our members, we talk about our community and how we want them to be here with us and to take part in it. And so this member, this comment came from Laura this week, she said, I'm living my life, but I'm checking, but like checking back in. And that's exactly why the group is set up the way that it is so that, you know, if you are out there living your life, and you don't need us for support, and you don't need to be
Starting point is 00:21:43 checking in, but once in a while, you just want to come and say hi to the community. You know, you just want to see what are we talking about? What's going on? You know, that's really the end game. That's where we want you to be that you know, you have this group here, you have the support system here if you need it. But if you don't need it, that's OK. Go ahead and live your life. And then another comment from Susan.
Starting point is 00:22:03 So I have been living the live your way for a couple of years now, but I still faithfully pop into the maintenance group and comment now and then. I'm very excited for the third group to materialize. Well, so are we we are excited to have to see what comes from this third group. But until then, we have the maintenance and mindfulness group for all of our members to be checking back in when they need saying hello, staying connected.
Starting point is 00:22:28 We made a point on Monday about saying, you know, this is a community of like-minded people. This is a community of people that know each other. They get each other. We've been on, although our every journey has been unique, we've all been on a journey together, you know, in a familiar way. So we just wanted to highlight that for some of our members, you know, and for new members coming in, if they're not sure what this place is all about
Starting point is 00:22:51 and what's gonna happen in here, you know, this is where you can get to go. So I'm gonna just keep this short and sweet because I could lose my data as well at any moment. So I just wanted to say thank you, Kim, of course, for joining us here. To our members in maintenance, just thank you for the last 12, 13 weeks, really. This is not a goodbye,
Starting point is 00:23:13 it's just a slowdown for a couple weeks. And we'll be back on April 21st, ready to get going. But like I said, we'll be checking in from time to time. There'll be posts for you to engage on. New members, ask questions, ask all the questions so you feel confident getting going on April 21st, especially if it's your first time here in the maintenance group.
Starting point is 00:23:32 We're seeing those new members joining all the time. So it's an exciting place to be. Exciting place, exciting time, for sure. Yeah, for sure. Well, thanks for so much for having me. And I hope everyone just enjoys and sort of steps back. And it just takes a couple moments to be proud of how far they've come
Starting point is 00:23:49 since they started this journey. And maybe kind of reflect on that over the next couple of weeks while we have this little bit of a slowdown. Yes, yes, that is my hope too. All right, I'm gonna go test Amanda's theory. I could use it after a day like today. So I'm gonna go give it a try.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Thank you for everybody that joined us today, short and sweet. Thank you for being patient with our technical difficulties in the beginning. Mother Nature has not been in our side the last few days, but I feel like she's getting in a better mood. I feel like we're all gonna be in a better mood in a couple of weeks.
Starting point is 00:24:20 Okay, so thanks Kim. Thanks everybody for watching. We'll see you soon. Thanks, Kim. Thanks, everybody for watching. We'll see you soon. Thanks. Bye.
