I'm Gina Livy, and welcome to the Livy Method podcast.
This is where you'll have access to all of the live streams for my 91-day weight loss program.
With a combination of daily lives, guest expert interviews, and member stories, there is something new almost every day.
Miss the morning live?
Want to re-listen to one of our amazing guest experts?
Well, this is the place.
This podcast is hosted on ACAST, but it's available on all podcast platforms, including the one you're listening to right now,
Spotify, Apple, and Amazon music.
It's your maintenance midweek motivation.
Some of my favorite conversations are taking place here.
Wake up, look good, feel good, no matter what life throws out you.
You've got this.
They changed that intro, or is that the first time I'm seeing that?
Or do I normally not pay attention?
What's going on?
It's not the first time you've seen it.
but it is new.
So it's the first time since we've started here in the fall.
But it's lovely.
Yeah.
Let's get some good energy, some good facts to it.
That's exactly where we are.
I was just looking, I'm just reading the comments as they're coming in.
And there's like this energy in there.
I mean, there's only a few, but already there's this energy halfway to the weekend, happy
hump day.
So excited to be here.
And I think that's where this whole conversation is today.
I think, you know, we were.
talking, well, hello, first of all, hello.
Yes. Hi.
Hi, everyone.
Everyone joining us live too.
Hello.
Um, you know, I feel like this is kind of the energy this week.
It's this, it's this celebratory energy.
It's this exciting energy.
And I know on Monday we had this conversation, you know, it was a bit more real talk.
It was a bit heavier.
But that didn't downplay.
And I hope members feel that too, it didn't downplay this place that we're in right now,
this maintenance phase.
And, you know, we say the real work begins here and maintenance is its whole other beast.
And it is, but that doesn't downplay how amazing it is to be here and what you've accomplished
and what you're still accomplishing and what you're still learning.
So that's where I really want people to be today and coming into this weekend.
Yeah, I'm with you on that because it's, we like, there's a, there's a, there's a heaviness to the conversation.
Because it is like it's a continuation of your journey and it can be this whole other thing.
And sometimes I think you've got to go a little deeper mentally because you've got the routine and you're in tune physically and all of that.
But let's not forget it is a fucking celebration because you made it here and that's really huge.
I just want to say hi to Dave.
He's like, what are people?
Guess who's back from a few weeks of Downing Cascails in the UK.
Hello.
We have Lisa Castillo who's here.
She doesn't get to make a lot of the lives.
Hello.
Cynthia, Lisa, hi, everyone.
So, yeah, we want to get into the conversations,
but also they don't have to be super heavy all the time either.
Yeah, no, I agree.
And I think that it's just this fine mix, right?
Like, you're going to go through these seasons
and we're going to, you're going to have to give yourself real talk sometimes.
And then sometimes you don't have to.
Sometimes you can just enjoy where you are and take it in.
And, you know, I think from where we even were on Monday with these,
these heavier conversations and we were talking about struggling and our own personal challenges
and what we were going through and a lot of our members resonated with that. And now here
we are two days later and the whole energy has changed. Everything has changed. So I think it's a
great reminder of ebbs and flows. And if you're feeling down or low, it doesn't have to stay
there. And when you're feeling high, it doesn't necessarily mean you're always going to be there either.
But it's just this ebb and this flow and it's where we are. So just really want to get into, set that
reminder for everybody. Ebbs and flow seems to be like the theme these days. Like you're supposed to
ebb and flow forward and back. That's how it's supposed to be. You're not supposed to not go back or
get knocked back. That's just that's just how it is. Dave is talking about how it only took him two
days to get his butt back on track. No weight gain after a full holiday experience. I mean,
that's what it's all about. I'm going to put on some lipstick. I feel like I'm pale. It's like
and yeah, I don't, I'm just looking at myself trying to be like, okay, let's get
some color in your face, honey. There you go. There's Sue. I personally like the depth of
conversations and always a sense of humor too. Well, yeah, we're going to, yeah, I'm here for all
of it. Let's get it. I know you wanted to get right into this today. So let's talk about Michelle and
where she's at. I lost 12 pounds and 12 weeks in your spring program. That's amazing. I got to 162.
I can now maintain easily between 162 and 165, but have not changed sizes and some of my clothes are still
tight. Can I aim to lose another two pounds on maintenance for a lower set point? How do I do it? I feel no
need to go back to the weight loss program. Absolutely. Like, you can't just pick a number and be like,
that's where I'm going to be. Your body will decide maybe it wants to settle on an even lower number.
So it's not unusual for people to do the maintenance program and end up losing weight. However,
we all know how hard it can be to lose a couple pounds. So it's all about intention. You can still
work on your maintenance mindset, while also be intentional on moving the dial on the scale.
And I guess that's the beauty for members who are not looking to lose is that they kind of get
to the motions physically. But each time they work through the tweaks, it helps them,
you know, just get even more in tune to their body's needs. And then they can focus more mentally.
If you are getting on the scale every day in a maintenance mindset and expecting it to lose,
that might be a little misaligned.
So there's no reason you have to go back to the weight loss program,
except when it does come to what you are eating and when maximizing or in this case,
optimizing,
you want to still make sure you're getting the sleep and moving your body.
And for you,
maybe you're still doing those things because you'd like to lose a few pounds,
as opposed to someone else who's now doing those things
because they're just trying to elevate their health and wellness and build on what they've done.
So I don't think you need to go back to the weight loss program.
If it was 5 pounds, 10 pounds, 20 pounds,
because sometimes people are like, I'm good here,
but now I decided I want to go back for 10 more, 20 more.
I would go and switch over to the weight loss program
and be like, I think I need my focus over there.
You could lose that just by normally following the maintenance program too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I think just looking at this comment too that Michelle,
when she wrote this,
And she's saying, like, can I, can I aim to lose another two pounds here in maintenance?
But also part of this question is she's saying, my body hasn't changed.
So where is this, like, where's the connection between two more pounds and your body changing?
Where is that coming from?
Like, let's think of the intention there.
Is it two more pounds you want to lose because you want, excuse me, to see your set point go down?
Or do you want your body to change?
I feel like this is really a two-part question here.
And, you know, what is the focus of this?
So yes, you don't have to go back to maintenance to lower your set point if that's what you want to go.
But I'm also hearing her say, but my body hasn't changed and my clothes are still tight.
So what is she like, yeah, so where like what is the intention here and how we break down these two parts?
Well, what decided that you were done?
Did you decide you were done because you hit a number rather than how you felt?
Like did you make a decision to go into maintenance, but you still want to lose weight?
But maybe you thought, oh, I spent enough time losing weight or I reached my goal weight so that I'm done.
Right, because we've learned that your goal weight is never about a number once you get there.
It could also be, too, that what you want to feel is more toned.
Like, there's a way of shaping your body and having your clothes fit better.
That's not about losing fat, right?
And that could be it.
If you are feeling, for example, like, it could also be a situation.
I don't know how old Michelle is that you could have lost weight felt fantastic.
And now you're starting to go through perimenopause.
and then you're noticing your weight's the same, but maybe you're, you just feel a little bloated and you're, you know, it's more of a hormonal situation that's causing you to feel uncomfortable in your clothes. So what do you want? What do you want? Do you want to lose more weight? Do you, is it just the way your clothes fit? So maybe working out or doing some, you know, activities going to help there. Did you realize maybe you sign up for maintenance because maybe everyone told you, oh, you look good. You should be done now. So you're like, okay, I must be done now. And you're like, but, but, whoa, whoa, whoa, I'm not, I'm not done now.
right so i think you got to get some clarity on that big picture you could still lose weight while
doing the maintenance program absolutely absolutely yeah so i'm glad we got into that because i know
that she was really wanting us to talk about it and i think yeah like i said that two-part question
think about what you want exactly and what what is the reason that that brought you the maintenance group
i uh i hear lisa lisa obviously lisa you know hugely successful doing our program lisa and
she's now in maintenance not losing take some time to get used to yeah and that's why we we focus on
your maintenance mindset because you know what to do physically go through the motions and it's now like
what does maintenance look like and feel like to you right you've gone from being a from constantly trying
to lose to now you're just who are you now right like solidifying those new routines and habits but
also really that that mindset we say in weight loss you're rewiring how your body's come to
function physically and your brain mentally what do we say in maintenance you are reprogramming
reprogramming that mindset your thoughts your beliefs because your body will you're because you've started
rewire wheat you know what I'm trying to say that word that I can't I do uh-huh like your cruciferous
vegetables I can say cruciferous just fine but I can't say rewiring um
Yeah, so you're reprogramming those thoughts, that mindset, you're limiting beliefs, you know, getting to know who you are because your body will will continue to rewire on its own, right?
That physical change will start to, we'll continue to happen.
But now you need to start reprogramming, rethinking, you know, changing up that thought process.
Yeah, I love on the episode that Rob's like, not gaining is also something to get used to.
Yeah.
And you're trusting that, right?
Trusting that as well.
And it's almost like, sorry, I say, wait, like not gaining.
It's, you know, if you've had that pattern, it's like you're waiting for that shoe to drop.
You're waiting for that to come back.
So you don't allow yourself to be in the moment of, of, yeah, I'm here.
I did this because you're, you're just waiting for that to happen again, for that cycle to come back, for that shoe to drop.
Yeah, it's almost like you need to reframe your thinking.
And you're not trying to control or moderate yourself.
And if you are still weighing, Debbie piped in, it was like, especially if we get on the scale,
I'm still weighing every day.
if you are, why are you and what does that mean? And it's okay to use this scale. It's like,
maybe you don't quite trust it. And then you're using this scale as long as you are like not going
into, oh, the scale is up a little bit today. Um, you know, what did I do wrong or, oh, I did this or
I did that. Just understanding, oh, yeah, well, I had a crappy sleep last night. I worked out.
I whatever. Like trying to understand what's going on and how you feel. You know, that's that
what maintenance now looks like and feels like to you. I want to move on to this comment from
Ellen, who says, my weight is going up for the first time in six months, not doing anything
different. And then you added, the takeaway is maybe you need to do something different.
That is really, that's, that's, that's interesting. My weight is going up for the first time in six
months, not doing anything different. Okay. So you can be doing the same things, but it's your
environment, your situation, the things around you that are changing, right? You could also have an
underlying health issue of some sort that's causing your weight to go on.
You could also, like, and perimenopause being one of those, right?
Like even me, 30 years, maintain my weight just fine.
All of a sudden I go through perimenopause plus stress, plus this, plus that I wasn't
changing anything that I was doing.
That was the problem is that I wasn't changing anything that I was doing.
So there was a lot going on around me and even within me.
And I was just like, oh, I know what I need to do.
I, you know, I'm already doing everything.
I'm doing, but the reality was I needed to change the things that I was doing.
And so what is not what's wrong with me, huh, what's going on with me?
Physically, do I feel any different?
Mentally, is it situational?
Is it environmental?
You know, is it medical?
You could be, you know, for example, taking thyroid medication, feeling fantastic,
lost your weight, maintaining, and now your metabolism is higher.
Maybe there isn't a need for that.
dose of thyroid medication so you need to adjust your dose right a dust a dust a done
we're a pair today aren't we with our words what what what what what what say you about this
yeah i think you know a point that i wanted to make too is that you know the only constant is
change like you have you have to change you have to adapt and i think if we're trying to hold on
so tightly to what worked in the moment or what worked for our weight loss journey
and that part of the that part of it all you're really trying to hold on top because this is this is
what worked for me and i can't think outside of the box i can only stay doing these exact things
you can mute those messages you can mute actually knowing what your body actually what your body needs
and and when you stop listening when your approaches i can't veer off from what i did i can't make
change i can't shift then you're holding on too tightly to to you know what you think work
and not trusting yourself and now you don't have to trust yourself right away but not even allowing
it to come to the surface a little bit you're like you know what I need to make a change here
I need to be able to lean into that instead of just moving on to what you always did yeah this is
like a business thing too like what I did business wise to get to where I'm at today is not what
I need to do to get to where I want to go tomorrow and so the things that you did to get here
you probably need to do things differently to get there, right?
But we're so like, this is what worked.
So I got to keep doing this.
And then you're just doing the same thing over and over and over and over again because
it got you here, but that's not what I, those are not the things I need to focus on and do to
get into where I want to go.
And I use that business thing because it's, it's where I'm at right now.
And sometimes also it's about going back to the basics.
So it's weird.
It's like, what are the new things I need to do?
but then what are the what are the basics that I need to double down on right that the the true
what got me here like is the um my intention and my why and my mission and my purpose um but the how
how I do those is change so that's different so you got to you got to figure that out it's like
aging it's like aging you're meant to get older you're not going to be the same as you were in
your 20s but that doesn't mean that you're not having a great era in your 40s 50s 60 70s 80s
whatever is like where am I at now what's going on where do I need and so you can't hold on you got
you got to you got to ask yourself those questions what do you need to do that's different yeah
I think that's the whole the whole point and the whole takeaway of this is supporting the new you is
supporting that changing you and being open to that and listening to those messages you know we had
that post go out today even about seasonal the seasonal shift you know if we're really holding on
to you know what we did all summer because you know that's it worked for us in the summer but
now it's fall i mean it doesn't it's still pretty nice out but the leaves are changing your mind
is picking up those signals that the season is changing your body could be changing too and its
needs could be changing so like leaning into that change i think is you know letting go of what work
even six weeks ago to what's what you need now is can be a shift or even like if you've noticed
your weight gone up then last little bit could be that you're fighting
biting a cold or flu or virus or like you're still stuck on salads when what you need is
soups and stews and and chilies and the days are shorter now whereas before that they were
longer and maybe it was easier to drink your water and now you got to switch over to like
drinking tea right like it's it's it's not holding on to the things that you did that got you
here it's understanding what you need to do now that you are here yes yes to all of that
Let's talk about non-scale victories and celebrations
because that's a conversation that we're talking about.
I know he started the conversation with this
just because you're in maintenance doesn't overshadow the things that you have done.
But what do you want to talk about non-scale victories?
I mean, at this point, we've racked up so many.
Yes.
What, like, where are we going with the, how do we keep that being something that is motivating us?
Like, we've got the ultimate scale victory.
We've racked up all these non-scale victories.
like what what's the conversation now yeah i want to ask people joining us live too like what did
non-scale victories mean anything to you anymore or do they matter more now they're in their
maintenance what do you think or are they different now like you know when we talked about sometimes
in in way loss when we talk about non-scale victories we we can still talk about a physical change
that's not the only change we talk about but you know you talk about is your body changing you know
do you have you know are you noticing your clothes fitting differently
that sort of those physical changes where now in maintenance maybe your body's not changing so if that was
how you were identifying your non-scale victories was still in that physical change maybe now is a time
to look at more of those intuitive or energetic changes you know like I'm feeling more energy when
I wake up I'm noticing that I'm kinder to myself I'm noticing that I didn't freak out over something
I would have freaked out about before I think it's not just that those non-scale victories are not
happening quite as much. But maybe your idea around what those non-scale victories are,
maybe that also needs a bit of an adjustment, a bit of a, you know, a bit of a shift. And I think when
we look at these non-scale victories, you can't go back to the scale. And Waylos, you, you were still
going to the scale once in a while to see that number drop. Now it becomes even more important because
that's not what you're looking for. And I think, you know, if you were driven by those drops when they
were happening the non-scale victories got you through in between but now there's not there isn't
that in-between anymore you're not looking for that drop so those non-scale victories even become more
important and I feel like we just don't talk about them quite as much and how and how they might
need to shift yeah well Dave's like I don't I don't think I focus on non-scale victories as much
I think they all seem to be within the comments I get from other people now right yeah or
Lisa's like I love it when the non-scale victories become the new normal right
And like, let's just talk about that for a second because you don't have to go looking for new non-scale victories.
Like, you don't, right?
Like, if you are motivated, you're feeling fantastic and you are here, you don't have to go looking constantly for, you know, new non-scale victories.
They can just, like the ones that are becoming your new norm, like that's amazing.
So to your point, maybe it's a different way of looking at them for Sue here.
Non-scale victories for me is the intuitive portion sizing and not eating everything on the plate.
Yeah, like recognizing, oh, shit, I am starting to trust when to eat, what to eat, and how much to eat.
I like this comment here.
I like this comment here.
What is it?
Growing old is happening.
Growing up is optional.
Yeah, I'm all about that.
I'm all about that too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There's not a lot of maturity happening in my house most days.
Well, and then there's Joe.
She's like, non-scale victories keep me on track.
So, you know, there we go.
We just proved it's really individual.
What do they mean for you?
Does it mean that your non-scale victories are just part of who you are?
You know, maybe you get excited about looking for new ones.
Maybe it's just like, yeah, just, you know, or maybe it helps to keep you on track.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And the other thing I wanted to say, too, was, you know, we have this giveaway going on and we're asking people, what does healthy mean to you?
And on Monday, we said, you know, it could help you develop your new why.
If you think about what does healthy mean to me?
what do you see yourself down the road but maybe it doesn't have to be you know this is what i see
for myself later this is where i am feeling healthy right now this is what it means to me right now
it doesn't have to be about developing your life think about right now and a few like i was reading
i mean i think our members should go in there and read them because i think it's such an it's it's motivating
in itself and some of them that i was reading were like i'm not letting my body be the reason i can't do
something that's what healthy means to me
or I feel super comfortable traveling now.
You know, traveling could be, you know, feeling comfortable in the seat.
That's your physical feeling.
But feeling comfortable knowing that you can go and enjoy your holiday and it's not, you know,
you don't have these thoughts in your head about, you know, I can't eat this.
I can't do that.
I can't, you know, just feeling comfortable traveling where you never did before.
And I also love that healthy to me means loving the way my body looks.
like it can be that simple when you have never loved the way that your body looked or you've never felt comfortable it's not about it being perfect it's not about it looking like anybody else's body but it's about this body that you have created through this journey whatever it looks like and just I love what my body looks like now and it doesn't it you know and that's those are by my own standards by nobody else's standards and I think that can even be that's what healthy looks like to me it's that it's that it's that that that connection.
and that love that I have for, you know, my physical body.
And maybe love isn't your word.
Maybe it's gratitude, right?
Like it doesn't have to be like, oh, I don't know if I love my body where it's at.
That's okay.
You can love yourself, though.
You can love yourself, though, and want to make changes with your body that those can be true at
the same time.
Or maybe it's the gratitude that you have.
I was wanting to read Judy's comment here, but it goes along with another comment.
You were going to bring it up.
Judy is saying, I love that.
I have to remind myself that I've come so far and sometimes I have to go back in my journal
and look at where I was a year ago to appreciate how much I changed.
There are just so many non-scale victories over time I've been doing this.
You had this comment, member comment from Norma, where she said,
journaling is a work in progress for me, progress over perfection, right?
I often totally forget after a successful day, but on days when I have a challenge with
mindset and actions, I write down a bunch.
usually the next day. I mean, this is sort of maybe this is where if you are Judy a year later
and you're looking back, you're realizing, wow, I really struggled with this, this, that,
and this. And look where I am at now. Like I wouldn't go judging what you are feeling the need to
put out. But there is something to be said that the things that you focus on, you keep doing. And
there's like journaling the hard stuff because you want to work through it. And then there's also
journaling the great stuff because you want to do more of it too, right? When you are proud of the
things you're doing, you're more likely to continue that behavior. So is my journaling serving me,
right? Am I seeing both sides of the coin here? Or am I just reinforcing a narrative that I keep
fucking up. I keep fucking up. When in reality, you're just not seeing the things that you are doing
the 10 things that you were doing really well that day too, right? So what did you want to say about that
before we go today. Yeah, I just wanted to say that, you know, we can fall into this pattern of,
okay, I didn't have a great day. Let's reflect on that. Things didn't go the way I wanted.
Let's reflect on that. And that can be your narrative. That can be what you are focusing on.
Like you said, but when you are reaffirming and reminding yourself and writing down those things
that did go well, it's going to help you do them more often. Or even if you don't necessarily do them
more often, it's going to help you see them.
It's going to help you notice them.
It's going to be that glimmer like, yeah, these things went really well today.
This is, I had an amazing day.
So don't just think that journaling and reflecting has to be when things don't go well.
It can be absolutely when things are going your way.
Waking up and starting your day, thinking about the things that, you know, you're grateful
for.
Like before I get out of bed, I take a minute and just like calm down and harmonize myself rather
than grabbing on my phone, jumping out of bed, whatever.
I'm being like, Caleb, what do I got going on?
on today. What's the tone, my intention for the day? I envision things going really well,
not in great detail. And then feeling how I want to feel at the end of the day, days that I don't do
that. I am a hot mess. It's something to be said about what's the mindset, like journaling can help
you be in the mindset that you want to start your day with or the mindset that you want to go to
bed with. Right. So that's why it's great to note the struggles to like be aware, self-aware,
but it can't just be all about the struggling.
You've got to be able to see the other side.
We got to go.
But what do you want to next week?
We are focusing on motivation, mindfulness, love that.
What's that mean now that we're in maintenance?
So mindfulness is really getting out of your head and back into your belly.
You know, when we're going through the motions every day, we can just be in our head and
we can lose that connection with our bellies.
What's our belly actually saying?
what does it actually need so really getting back into our bellies and then motivation it's really
about um you're you know taking action even when you don't want to that's really what it is you know
motivation can come and go but how do you work through that how do you find it and how you can't
really count on it as being your as being there for you every single day so we're going to get
into that well that's me in a nutshell i just finished eating some fruit some berries some god awful sour
berries but I had a lot of grapes and then I went upstairs and I immediately was in my head
fucking stressed about something and opened my fridge and then I was like sitting down and I was
like what am I what am I doing? And I'm like yeah I'm not I'm not even hungry. I'm not even
hungry today totally um totally in my head and not in my belly and I don't want to fucking do
anything. Excuse me F bombs today but that's where I'm at. I don't want to do anything today
but I made my list and I'm just like going through and checking it off and then I'm starting
to feel better about even if it's just to get through my list so I can just go to bed early
tonight. It's making me feel better. It's making me feel better as I'm ticking the things up.
So one small change at a time. That's right, Kelly. Okay. Thanks everyone. What a fun conversation
today. Thanks for bringing the energy and the vibes. Like talk about just like this, it's a whole vibe.
I filled my cup today. Thank you so much. Everyone who asked questions participated.
or anyone listening after the fact, Odette, final words before we jet.
And actually jet, because Odette and I are going away together next week.
We're going to be in St. Lucia next week.
Don't be jealous.
Be jealous.
Don't be jealous of us.
It's work.
It's work-related.
We're still going to be going live.
But before we jet on the jet, what do you got to say?
I think just, you know, members that are here live or listening after the fact,
just take this energy with you this weekend.
You know, if it's rainy where you,
you are like where I am today it's gray it's rainy it might not it might not be the precursor to the
weekend you think you want to have or the rest of the week that you think you want to have just know
it'll change like I said the beginning change the change is the only constant it'll change so take this
energy forward finish the week strong engage with each other like you said I love that the members are
engaging with each other right because that's that's where you're going to get some of your energy
from too yeah yeah thanks Kim I appreciate you um she's like you be you
Gina, F-bom away.
Yeah, that's a whole conversation for another day.
Yes.
I realized I'm in a different place mentally.
I know Odette was in on a meeting I was having with her yesterday.
And we're talking about the kind of energy that I used to bring in the beginning when my
mindset was just helping people.
And through it, becoming big business, it's become trying to do this and trying to do that.
And I'm back to like, you know what?
I don't give a fuck anymore.
Let's just show up and just be here altogether, right?
And just work through all the stuff we've got to work through and have the conversations
we need to have.
a shit ton of fucking fun along the way.
So here of it.
I'm here for it.
Thanks, everyone.
Have a great.
Fantastic day.
And we'll see you next time.
Thanks,
so dad.
Yeah.
Bye.
