I know how you're feeling. Hang in there. Losing weight, but gaining so much more. When it comes to weight loss, there's nothing like having very real conversations with very real people on their very real journeys. Joining me today is Lynette Brossard. She's 63. She's a retired elementary and special education teacher. She currently lives in Saskatchewan. She is down 56.5 pounds in her journey, but I want to talk to her about the fact that she's been dieting for 50 years, that she won a weight loss competition and trophy at the age of 12, that she's lost and regained 50 to 70 pounds several times in the last 50 years. Do we not know that story? More than that, bigger than that, she has a slew of health issues that she has been
Starting point is 00:01:34 working with and working through. And of course, you know, she's been successful at addressing each and every one. Talk about a story of inspiration are we ready to meet lena hello hi hi that was exciting. I loved your intro. A change is possible. Nothing is impossible. I mean, I adore you. We're friends already. Well, you know what? You just, if you can't keep on the negative because I could have been in this little box forever, right? I've got to have to be let out. Okay. So where do we start with you? Where do you want to start? So let's, let's talk about your weight loss, 56.5 pounds. But before you even came to us, you were down 23 pounds on your own in the winter program, you lost 24 and the spring summer today date 9.5. So where does your story start? Where do you want to start? Oh boy. Well, it's, it's been ever, um, progressing, I guess, like right from six years
Starting point is 00:02:58 old, I told the story of how I had tummy issues, food sensitivities. You know, the talk today, oh my gosh, that was me all over with those. Yeah, inflammation at a really young age. And so by the time I was 11, I, you know, was already having exploded tummy issues, essentially. So my mom and I joined TOPS group. And that's where, you you know I learned some skills to learn to control those sensitivities a little bit but not enough it was kind of like the talk today so it kept exploding I mean after the fact that I did get lucky I guess and worked hard to get that little trophy at 12 years old but through through high school, through university, all the bad habits, and just re visiting every skill that I learned, and having to do it all
Starting point is 00:03:54 over and over and over again. And then those silly bad things, you know, all over the years, so many fad diets. And, you know, some were really healthy. Some, I did do some very healthy lifestyle changes, but I couldn't sustain them because I didn't have the tweaks of the week to keep the metabolism going and all that. The coaching, you know, everything that you have here to keep you going and sustain and to really delve in to all those emotional eating patterns and the mental pieces that's that's where it got real for me and in my previous marriage and all the damage that was done there the comment that you know that was told that that was the probably the thing that really damaged my whole self-esteem and mental part you know I was told I couldn't buy a dress unless I lost 50 pounds
Starting point is 00:04:55 it was for a Christmas party his staff Christmas party and I wasn't allowed to buy a dress unless I lost 50 pounds I still can't believe. And that has eaten at me all these years. I never did lose it because it was just too stressful. I couldn't, you know, I, I was already in, in, um, a mess emotionally. And, uh, so I never did get the dress. And so here I am today, lost the 50 pounds. I can go buy my own fricking dress now. Fucking right. You did fucking right. You did because you're like an expert dieter. So it's not because you didn't work hard, didn't know what to do. You did those diets. You were successful at losing that weight. Okay. So that's a lot, right? So in a weight loss competition, you know, at the age of 12, you did that. And then it's just been diets
Starting point is 00:05:47 ever since ever, I would like not feeling good enough. Like, what were the thoughts? Like, what were the thoughts? Yeah, I think over the years, it was it was, I'm never going to be doing it. Because that was the kind of the last, well, there were, I could write a book. But one of the last well there were I could write a book and I probably will um but one of the things was you'll never be anybody or anything out of that because I failed again and so I've you know failure failure every time I didn't do the diet or every time I gamed it back it was like oh here she goes again nobody can and so this time I think like stress over the years, there's so many pieces to this big puzzle. But part of it is job stress. I was a learning assistance teacher the last 10 years before I was forced to retire, took early retirement, because I just I wouldn't have
Starting point is 00:06:39 been here. I was that sick. My husband helped me get out of my bed, out of my chair, couldn't drive. Like I was really sick. So, you know, all those stresses and every time I couldn't do something, it just, even though I've worked very hard on all of this emotional, mental piece, you know, I'm into EFT and tapping. And that really, really helped me through a lot of that, as well as my essential oils, all the emotional pieces. But something with this, with your program and eating,
Starting point is 00:07:15 what I need to eat. And now, like I've always done the mirror work, so many different maximizing strategies. But looking at myself in the mirror now, I can feel that failure disappearing. Like it's like, it's gone. It's like, and these last few days, I have to say I put on three pounds. I didn't put on three pounds, scaled it up three pounds. Oh, I almost do it.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Essentially because of the stress again is that, are you gonna fail in it no you're not you're not but the stress of it is a big factor and the inflammation with all those illnesses that you see on my list yeah largely had to do with inflammation but it's the failure piece that kept coming back each time. So that's, that's where I'm now able to delve in this last week was amazing for me. Downsizing always is because of being able to deal with each piece of, you know, whatever food it is, and I'm downsizing on, or if it's not feeling right, and I'm looking in the mirror and really feeling into that person, what is it that you feel? And how are you now? And what are we going to do to make you feel better and feeling in tune with her,
Starting point is 00:08:41 with that body? With, with you feeling in tune with yourself, because this is, this is really big, right? So you've been on a diet basically since the age of 12, you've lost and regained 50 to 70 pounds several times. You have a list of diagnosis prior to joining the program, diabetes, hypertension, fibromyalgia, IBS, parasites, chronic pain disorder, sleep apnea, asthma, asthma, allergies, eczema, and recurring pneumonia and bronchial infections. You had to stop working, driving and couldn't get out of bed or a chair without support from your husband. And in just a few months, you're now able to dance, exercise, go for long walks, swim, play guitar, et cetera. You have either
Starting point is 00:09:32 decreased or you're off the medications you are taking to manage your health issues. I mean, and not only that, but you started your first program in the middle of a six week vacation in Nicaragua. So I mean, this is a testament to you're an expert dieter. You're an expert dieter. And so then why you have all of these things against you? And how though, you know, you talk about the living method, but what is it about the living method? Because I think there's a lot of hope to be found in this conversation, especially after the conversations that we have with Dr. Paul today. A lot of people are dealing with health issues or recognizing this is going to be so much more than what they thought to lose their weight finally and forever.
Starting point is 00:10:18 So what, what, good Lord. Yeah, I know someone wrote, oh my good Lord. Yeah. So what's the mindset needed to to take all of this on? I think one of the biggest things I was so sick and tired of being put in that box that living in that box where my weight impacted who I was my health, and all those diagnosis and that I couldn't do something I was just sick and tired, really, of my health, my body, people telling me I can't do something.
Starting point is 00:10:51 So I luckily am stubborn enough to be able to say, I am, I wish I had your mouth sometimes, Gina. I have a hard time saying the F word. But I would, I am eff Evan doing this because this is me. This is my life and I want to live. In fact, I didn't share this in the story, but I'm going to tell you now. Well, before we went to Nicaragua, that's where we were in our holiday before when we started the Libby program,
Starting point is 00:11:20 I did up my will and my sister's in this program too, but we hadn't done up the will and I did my health directive my health directive you know what I said so if my heart goes or if I'm laying on the street something happens don't don't do anything let me go wow because I was that sick that mentality that that's how much I was in that box I'm sorry if I get a little choked up but that's that's where I was and I just said I am sick of fighting so I want to I want to live so my doctor said you got to go on these statins, your your your cholesterol was so high. And he said, you're fourth generation of possibly having the genetics of heart disease. And I said, give me three months, give me three months, I'm going to show you and he said, Don't show me and I said,
Starting point is 00:12:19 well, I'm not showing you I want to show me I want to do this I want to get a handle because I had done so many things like you said I'm an expert dieter and so I did it so I went we were there December 18th and I had already lost a little bit before that but over Christmas I didn't I didn't cheat I had fish and salad they were thinking I was like crazy because my husband has 15 siblings, 13 living ones. And I've got like 65 nieces and nephews. They're all eating and dancing and having a great time. And here's Lynette eating fish and salad. But I was so hyper-focused that I wanted to be able to get the sugars out of my world
Starting point is 00:13:04 before I joined Joy on January 8th with you. So I did. I did it. And I had lost that 23 pounds before I started with you. So the sugars, that was always my biggest thing. Carbs, sugars, fats, you know. And so I had sort of taken care of that. So then when I got my blood work taken down in Nicaragua
Starting point is 00:13:25 got all the tests taken it showed it was skyrocketing and so I said I told the cardiologist there that I am going to do this and I'll come back and I'll get retested you're going to see so when I came back to Canada that's what I did I got retested and all those results were down that much already. It's just a matter of, I'm thinking about you and I'm thinking about all of our members. We have a lot of expert dieters who are watching and listening to us right now. I mean, I think by the time people find a program like mine, most people are expert dieters and it really is just finding the right program. And the, with the living method being this systematic program and process that really allows you to like really dig deeper,
Starting point is 00:14:13 bring that sense of awareness, connect with yourself, um, prioritize yourself, you know, it permission to, to prioritize yourself. I know that was a big thing that you dealt with too. So how do you, okay, so back it up. How'd you find out about the Libby method? Like why the Libby method? Yeah, my, my cousin and her daughter, my, it was her daughter that actually wrote me. I used to live in Costa Rica and she, she, that's where I met my husband and and she came to see me there and that's where she's living right now so she knew I was coming down and she said why don't you do it with me we can start I don't know if you're going to be in Costa Rica or Nicaragua but wherever we can do it together and then her mom jumped on and my sister they they talked to her just so I'd have
Starting point is 00:15:02 my own little support team and then there's a couple other friends in two that are really close friends now so it was just I thought okay you know I don't know if I really need this because I feel like I'm doing pretty well before with that you know the 23 and but I said what have I got to lose 75 bucks it's crazy I can't believe it and the fact that they were doing, and I trusted them and they trusted you because they'd already done your first program. So that was enough when you trust somebody and you hear, and that's why I love your word of mouth system,
Starting point is 00:15:38 because that's what really is convincing to people when, when you have that trust and faith. Yeah. Listen, Nicole, do we love this woman or what? My heart is bursting. I know. Can't you like sense the hope? This is where there's so many people who feel like, Oh my gosh, I have so much to overcome. I'm just feeling hopeless. I'm tired of doing all the diets. Here's Bob Lynette. Listening to you is hitting my heart and mind your strength and the words you choose to express challenges resonate with me. I want out of the box and appreciate you sharing your fight. Okay. Let's break it down into the how then. Okay. Because
Starting point is 00:16:18 how, how did you overcome putting yourself first instead of always caring for others? I think basically it came to a point when, when all my numbers were going up, I had the diagnosis of diabetes in 2020, everything kind of came to a head in COVID. I lost my dad during COVID. I had all these traumatic things happening and I, I had done enough of my own retreats with emotional support. And in that, I talked about everybody, you know,
Starting point is 00:16:54 you've got to be able to put yourself first. And I thought, oh, yeah, you're a good one to talk, aren't you? You just can do coaching for everybody else, but you sure don't seem to do it yourself. So it's time, right? So it was just, I'm doing this, and nobody's going to stop me. And everybody got supportive, like it was so exciting, because they saw for the first time, I think in my life that that I am putting me first, and I've set up some boundaries. I've, you know, set a lot of no's. I haven't gone to a lot of functions.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Sometimes some people don't understand. I thought, whatever, you know, I've got to do this. This is for me. And now, by the way, I'm changing my health directive. It's like I can live to 100 because I'm going to be living to 100. Well, you just said most recently for the first time in 15 years, you were able to rake the lawn, throw down 10 bags of soil and reseed grass on winter kill strip. I don't know what that is. Plus a zero pain, plus zero pain the next day. So, so obviously this is a lot of like concentrated effort and really seeing the results. What's your thought process with the, with the plan? Are you just doing all the things?
Starting point is 00:18:06 Are you working out? What are you doing? Yep, working out. Well, luckily and not luckily, my mom had a heart attack at the beginning of December. And so I've been her companion for rehab, cardio rehab. And so that was like, I don't know if you believe in little winks from above, but I should. And those little winks are all over the place. And one of them was that I got to go in the education program for a week with all these heart patients. Because and it's like it was super
Starting point is 00:18:41 hyper focused with my cholesterol and the whole thing that, you know, potential issues of heart too. So they took me on. They've been doing private counseling with diabetes. I've really been lucky. I've taken a live well course here in Saskatchewan. We're lucky we have that. So all of these things for all these chronic health situations have been at the forefront. And then everything from there, I have a physiotherapist that's involved with my exercise program, acupuncturist for, you know, relieving the nervous system.
Starting point is 00:19:16 And that goes with my tapping. So my nervous system, like it's good. It's calm. I don't even get restless leg syndrome anymore. Like with my fibromyalgia, I always had that kind of running, zappy pain. Foggy brain. Like, do I look foggy? I haven't got a foggy morning.
Starting point is 00:19:36 And that is my godsend. That was one of the biggest things why I had to quit my work. I couldn't physically make a decision. I couldn't think about the answer. I couldn't, like, I don't know if you've ever been that in that space. But those of our members who have know what I'm talking about. I don't have that anymore. It's wonderful. So your glucose for diabetes down to 5.8, no metformin anymore. Blood pressure down to the average of 117 over 74 off meds. Cholesterol decreased from 7.58 to 5.34. So far, you don't need statins. That's the biggest you
Starting point is 00:20:13 win so far. CPAP, pressurized air decreased from 13 down to 10. Chronic pain managed by supplements, anti-inflammatory foods, essential oils, good sleep, no meds, eczema and skin allergies and sensitivities improve substantially with the Libby method. Right? So here's the thing is that one of the big takeaways that I've learned with this program is how everything is connected. Everything is connected, your microbiome and your hormones and your like every your stress and your sleep and your mood and your movements and all that is all connected. What's your secret sauce to being able to make a difference with all of these things? You know, I really looked inward.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Because I'm a special ed retired teacher, I worked really specifically with the parasympathetic system. And the movement that I do, like this morning, I was getting nervous. And because this is the first time I've ever disclosed any of this ever. Like my family didn't even know this story. So it was a big deal for me. And so I went out this morning for a walk along the river with my mom and did movement, you know, that really affects the parasympathetic system and being able to calm and ground. And then from there, I think it's just a matter of really doing that mirror work. I really believe in that because you look into those eyes and really see, you know, how are you feeling? What is it that you need today? And what areas do
Starting point is 00:21:47 we need to work on for today or this week? I used a lot of vision boards, I had a vision board as big as my wall in my living room. Like most people have this big, well, mine was my whole wall. And part of that was my tiny house. I don't know if you saw that we have a tiny home and that I used your analogy to for that. It just felt the first day of our tiny home construction was the first day I started the Libby program. Amazing. All these synchronicities. And so each part of what I needed to focus on, essentially came down to everything that you've got in your food plan. Like it was like, Oh, this isn't so much different than what I'm eating. It's just the times, the amounts and all your tweaks. And then I think, you know, for me,
Starting point is 00:22:38 I took it a step further. I kind of went into the talk this morning about food sensitivities, because I have quite a few with, with the things that are going on with me. And with heart, you know, the cholesterol, so I don't eat a lot of red meat. So that was taking care of those numbers that the diabetic part was, you know, how you suggest having the protein with your your fruit so that it doesn't spike. Well, I kind of limit the fruits and what kinds of fruits and because I've worked a lot of my foods and my diets and I know you know what effects affected me already that just was like after
Starting point is 00:23:30 eating I when was it I think probably only about three weeks I think by the beginning of February in the winter program I noticed substantially already and I think largely because I was off the sugar and the carbs and having all the fresh fruit and vegetables like you had wanted us to do. I was already like having probably 50% less pain already. Wow. Yeah. So everything just kind of worked in with each of those areas of my medical needs. And then from there, each time you did a tweak, it was like super challenging being down there because the cooking and all the things that I had to do to prepare. But I was determined. I just said, you know, we need to go to town today.
Starting point is 00:24:21 We need somebody to take me because this is what Gina wants me to get. And I'm getting it. And I was just really super focused. I love it. I love it. What's your favorite thing about the program? Oh, gosh, so many things. I love that.
Starting point is 00:24:40 Oh, yeah. There's so many things. that oh yeah there's one thing honestly I have never belonged that word belong I guess stands up but it's like uncover me is what kind of my theme is you know uncover all of me and I love the invitation to uncover all of me through your membership, through the community, through all the tweaks and the speakers. Today, he was helping uncover all of us, being able to delve right into who is that person inside and who do you want that person to look like in the future? Do you always want to be known as the fat girl in the club, like you spoke about in one of your lives?
Starting point is 00:25:29 Or, you know, what are you going to do about this? How do you want to be for your future? How are you going to create her? And so I love the invitation every day to look at a new person with new set of eyes, look at her in the mirror and, and ask that question. And I love the invitation to be able to address that with all your all your guides every day that you, you come on and you Yeah, I just I love your guests. I love you. I'm so grateful. And you know, honestly, I feel like I've won the golden buzzer. I mean, this is why our community is amazing.
Starting point is 00:26:17 Cause it's not an easy thing to do weight loss, just the weight loss part of it. It's not easy. I love what you said about uncovering because sometimes I tell people like you want to visualize who you want to be and how you want to feel. But what if you don't even know that? What if you'd like, you just like so hopeless or not feeling worthy that you can't even imagine you, you being anyone else. And so I love this invitation to uncover who you are. I talked to someone today, Wendy. She's a member who'd want to give away to spend time with me. And she was really interesting. She works in museums and a curator. And she was talking about being curious, being curious about yourself and who you are and what you need and
Starting point is 00:27:02 what's available to you. And that being curious and uncovering, like that's just like a whole vibe today. I love that. You know, there's a piece too, Gina, like when I was in Nicaragua and I was on that program, I would take a walk. I either had two choices. I'd do the beach walk or a country walk.
Starting point is 00:27:19 And I often did the country walk because I found it so stimulating with the senses and with the animals. But it made me think they have lots of kind of wild horses there. And it made me think of when they shed their coats of fur and you see the beautiful horse that's underneath that fur. That's kind of, I was thinking, oh, I wonder what I feel like when I've uncovered everything there is to uncover I know that I'm the same person but I'm not I've already changed I've changed tremendously and so I'm ready to like shed that fur and and the new me is ready go I yeah and that's not just the fur or the fat. That is like the layers of stress and living and, you know, all of that that's just been put on you and built on you.
Starting point is 00:28:13 And you're just building all of that up. It's just really like, oh, my goodness, uncovering it. I love that. I love that. We need a Libby retreat here. Yeah, someone, they're trying to get me to go to Costa Rica. So Costa Rica, I do have a bit of a Costa Rica story. Um, Costa Rica, Costa Rica. So when, just after my marriage fell apart, so my ex-husband got sick, we had to like,
Starting point is 00:28:38 just everything had fallen apart. So I caught my car repossessed. I had to close down my business and our marriage fell apart due to the distress. And I was sort of about as what am I going to do now with my life? And I was like, I'm going to go and I'm going to go surfing. I'm going to join a surf retreat in Costa Rica. And I found some people in Toronto who surf the greats, they're called. They had this little, little tiny surf community and they were going to take people on these trips. And it wasn't a really, I don't know how I found it. It wasn't an official trip. They're like, well, I said, like, I want to go, I'll pay you. And they're like, no, no, no. We're just going to go to see where we're going to take people. And I said, well, I'll be your guinea pig. Take me and I can test it out. Anyway, I went and I was doing things I never thought
Starting point is 00:29:26 that I could do. I'm surfing waves. I didn't have any business surfing, ATVing through Montezuma, you know, like risking my life with the crocodiles. Like it was like craziness. It is, it was life changing for me. It was truly life changing for me so much so that I went back. It's really how I got to find, it really helped me unravel a lot of layers. Um, and so I have a, I have a place close to my heart, definitely in Costa Rica. Um, so I would love to do a retreat there. You guys, that's what I'm trying to say. It was a, it was a game changer. I did one last year and the year before, a retreat. Yeah. I'm actually the founder of Country Day School in Costa Rica on the beach of Guanacaste.
Starting point is 00:30:11 That's me. That's an invitation. That's an invitation, is it not? I think so. We can totally do a retreat. Yeah, we should. How do you find the balls to go do this stuff? Like, where do you feel like this, like, how can I be more like you? I just I, you know, what it was, is I needed to
Starting point is 00:30:32 have a voice. And I was not gonna have anybody tell me that I can't do something that I want to do. And don't let anybody do that. And, you know, yes, that voice in the back has been there. But all along, ever since that, that marriage ended, I was a changed person back then already, trying anything that I wanted to do. I went, I lived there by myself, the founder of the school manifested my husband. And he's Yeah, he's part of my story. And then we moved back to Canada because my friends and family are here, but we're going to end up moving back eventually. And right now we're building our tiny home in Nicaragua. So it's part of the ride. But part of it is being healthy enough to be able to do the things I couldn't travel,
Starting point is 00:31:24 I couldn't go anywhere. I haven't gone anywhere for eight years. And then finally, this last year, I was well enough to get down there. And then when I started with you, now sky's the limit. I want to be able to do the things that I did before, swim in the ocean, do the surfing, do the zip lines, everything that I did there before. I want to be able to do, and I will. I believe it. I believe it. I was gonna ask you what the future held for you. I think you just kind of answered it there. I adore you. I can't believe our time is up. You are a whole vibe. I found this conversation to be so inspiring.
Starting point is 00:32:09 I can't even, this is an amazing honor that you shared with us. I think that nothing in the world beats hope and feeling hopeful. I think there's nothing worse than feeling hopeless. And for so many reasons, especially tied into diet and their weight and things that people have been through, they feel like it's just going to be so hard to make change. And you, I think, have just given everyone a reason to feel hopeful. And I have a feeling everyone who listens to this conversation today is going to be walking away inspired. I know that I am.
