I'm going to be honest with you, this podcast is unapologetically a hot mess because that is what midlife feels like sometimes.
Why, though?
And how do we make it better?
Do we all just need facelifts and g-lp-1s?
I mean, let's talk about it.
No bullshit, no wellness wangery here because we're trying to make real change and change is hard.
But we're in this together.
Welcome to the Living Method podcast.
Before we get into our conversation today and no doubt it's going to be great, I want to remind you that we have the most.
amazing weight loss program and maintenance program on the market. And our next live session for the fall
is on sale right now. But if you don't want to wait until the fall, you can sign up today by joining
our membership. For more information, go to liby method.com. Lady, good morning. We had some technical
issues. That's why we're a little bit late. Of course, right? Well, we always seem to have technical
issues, so it wouldn't be the same if we did it. We do. But normally it's because like,
I'm away somewhere.
Yeah, this is like, you know, well, you're a mom.
You got three kids.
I got four.
You kind of learn to just go with the flow, right?
Like, you don't get frazzled by a little bit of technical issues.
That's it.
You just keep trekking and that's it.
We're here.
I didn't dress up for you because I did my workout.
So at 7.30 in the mornings, I want to do like a 20 minute movement thing.
Right?
Let's just come hang out.
You do your thing.
I do my thing.
Or you want to follow me along.
Technical issues, of course.
like I got off to a late start.
And then all of a sudden, I don't know how about 20 minutes turned into 40.
And then all of a sudden it was the 40 minute workout.
I don't know what's going.
Nothing went as planned.
But I'm here.
The best thing.
There's nothing bad about that.
So Tanya Delsamino, everyone who is our new members who may not be familiar with Tanya,
we like to call her resident fashionista at every size because Tanya is also one of our members.
She's a liby loser.
just lost weight was successful in program and then got pregnant with her third child who just
turned 11 months the other day. I know. I can't even, I can't even believe it, to be honest.
Time is just flying. So it's crazy. So we had Tonya back. Was it last program?
Yes. We talked about that. What that was like for you having lost the weight, gaining weight back.
And then, you know, now obviously who you are 11 months in. How are you making out on your journey?
member to member how you doing?
It's up and down but I think it you know I go back to it is when I originally started for
those of you who don't know I was very very overweight kind of just in the fog of motherhood
and I think I just completely lost my way and this program was kind of my hill Mary in a sense
it was like I'm going to try this and then if it doesn't work I don't know what even what this
is what this program is who the heck Gina is like it
I really was so oblivious coming into it.
And I'm like, I don't know.
At the time it was like 75 bucks.
I'm like, I'm just going to try.
Who cares, right?
And it changed my entire life.
It changed my entire perspective.
I think I just with motherhood and trying to eat right,
it was so hard to lose the weight.
And I got totally confused,
but I lost the weight.
I found myself.
And then it just gave me that confidence to,
you know,
go at it one more time for a third round of motherhood.
And I think that I haven't looked back since.
I mean, I felt so confidence in my pregnancy after the fact.
I felt so good.
I was drinking water and I was energized.
And even though I had the sleepless nights and I had, you know,
little bumps and hurdles along the way with this baby,
I feel like I always just had my head in the game, which for me is so special.
And I said it when we spoke when I was pregnant.
I said like this program is just in my back pocket.
So I just have the tools.
I know what to do.
I'm not afraid.
And am I at my best weight right now?
My smallest, absolutely not by far.
But I feel so good anyways.
Like I just feel confident.
And I think that's what the program gave me.
I know how to get into it.
I know how to go back when things get off the rocker.
But it's just given me so much.
It's given me so much to work with that I don't fear weight loss like I did.
And I know I'm,
I'm never going to starve myself again to achieve my goals.
So I think it's just so important.
I'm so appreciative for that.
Well, it feels good to feel good.
And you look like you feel good.
Yeah, the team was like, oh, yeah, Tanya's been with us since 2020.
I was like, what?
Long time.
That's crazy.
Let's talk about that because one that I love that you're going to talk fashion.
We are going to get into that because at every size because you were online and you
were showing fashion and clothes, you know, when you had, you know, living in a larger
your body. So I want to talk about that. And then, you know, obviously the stress of having to look
for a new wardrobe. Plus, you're changing who you are and what's your reason and your wife
for dressing and all of that. But we are rolling into summer and now with our new membership,
actually our program is still $75 if you pick it up on sale. And even less, like $60 if you buy it
with the membership. So it's trying to jack up those prices again. I don't know. But now we have,
so when you did the program, I remember there was a time throughout the summer where you lost
wait in the summer. And now we actually have the membership, which supports you throughout
the summer. You can still use the app, access to the group, all of that. Talk about that in the
summertime, because, you know, people are nervous, right? Especially if they're new, they're unsure.
We just started personalizing the plan like yesterday. And maybe some words of advice or wisdom
or just hope. Sometimes with, for me personally, taking that little break from the group,
just in between groups, worked really well from me.
me, I mean, that was my only choice back then.
Yeah, yeah.
Like summer in general just gives you life.
And I feel like you have a little bit more energy.
You're a little bit more social.
You feel better getting that sunshine, that you're getting out more.
Winter, really, for me, is really difficult.
So I felt that just like going out and and meeting with friends, that was just one step in the right direction at all.
Sorry.
Oh, my goodness.
When you're home with children, sometimes you just forget how to.
speak but oh wait it gets better in menopause it gets better in menopause you get like that brain fog but
just going to the barbecues and i feel like in the summer there's so many really nice light
options to choose from too like you have all these great summer salads barbecue and and you're not
really going towards the heavier foods anyways plus you're more active you know you're just reminding
yourself just drink that water and i feel like naturally with the environment
it's just really helping you lose the weight.
And I think that at the point that I,
I think it was like around eight pounds after my first program that I was able to lose
in the month of August.
And I feel like it was just all due to like be more active and getting out and moving a little bit more.
And just not thinking so much about it.
And it came off and my body kind of changed shape and solidified in the process.
So I mean, it wasn't scary for me at all.
I felt really confidence even just after my first program.
So I love this.
This is such a like a great take because I'm, you know, I'm always catering to people who are having a hard time struggling.
And so many people are just not, right? And I'm like catering today. I wrote a post about the feels that we can have at the end of the program.
This is such a, this is such a great take on like, hey, someone's a great time. You're more active. You're more out and about.
It is truly a great time to focus on fat loss. You mentioned confidence. And there's a comment here from Renee. Tanya, you show much confidence in your videos. You look great. I mean, you always.
seem to exude confidence. But it's hard. And especially when it comes to dressing. So let's talk
about that because you know the journey addressing a larger body versus maybe the sizes that you're
wearing now. Where do you want, like where do you want to start that conversation?
So it's it's it has a lot of layers to it. And I feel like if we go all the way back to my beginning
stages of where you first caught my attention. You know, I was in the store. I was trying on clothes
and I was in a larger body and, you know, I was showing up, showing confidence and feeling good. But
there was a lot of backstory to that. It wasn't as easy to get dressed and it took me to really
like think what's going to look good on me, you know, being open to trying different things and not
getting, you know, so stuck in my head when one thing didn't look good.
It might take a little bit longer when you're not in the body that you're comfortable with
yet. But I think that getting out of your head and saying, okay, let's just really take this on
as a project. You know, what is my body right now and what is going to look good? Because I do
feel like you don't necessarily have to lose another 10 pounds to look great right now. It's
really about how you're styling things. You can almost look slimmer when style. You can almost look slimmer
when styled right, then you would maybe losing that 10 pounds if that makes sense to you.
It does. Yes, it does. Choosing the right cuts. And I feel like even in the process of losing weight,
some people are like, oh yeah, I love off the shoulder tops, for example, and wide leg pants.
But maybe you think I'll just size down and wear the same items again. I'll just size down.
Easy peasy, right? Not really. Your body proportions change. And that top.
and those wide leg jeans might not necessarily look good on you in your new body and your new size
because, you know, everything kind of shifts and you really want to be open to trying things again
because what you thought looked good before probably did, but now you're a little bit different.
So just in terms of body shape and size, items don't necessarily continually look good as you lose weight.
Do you have to understand that? We're not just sizing down.
Well, I think that my style has changed.
I mean, my style is I find a pair, I find a nice shirt and I bought the same shirt in like three different colors. I'm the worst. I'm not like a big thing. Nothing is wrong with that though, Gina. That's something you love and you look good in and it makes it easy. There's absolutely nothing and you wear a lot of neutral. So for that, like you're always look like you're refreshed, even if you're wearing the same thing over and over because you're choosing things that are basic and neutral. So it plays into your wardrobe very easily. Well, but I didn't always used to do that, right? And so you're right. You're right. You wear a lot of print and a lot of color. I did. And so.
I love reinventing myself because I love learning and evolving and growing. And I think with these
programs, you're changing so much, not just physically, but who you are mentally. And a lot of people
maybe were hiding behind their weight. Maybe they weren't like maybe they were dressing in a way that,
you know, maybe it was all black or maybe it was all color or whatever that was. Like were you
dressing for the, for who you were or for what you were trying to hide or show the world. So when you
talk about layers. Like whenever I say, oh, Tanya's here to talk about dressing your ever-changing body.
I'm like, oh, it's so not the conversation. It's so much deeper than that. And did you experience
that? I know you did. But 100% because there's there's this middle ground. I'm on a weight loss
journey. You know, the journey has a lot of layers as we know, right? Psychological, what we're
eating, how we're moving, you know, what we're how we're thinking, you know, do we wait to the finish line?
to get a new outfit.
Do we wait to reinvent our closet at the end of the journey?
No, because as the journey is progressing, you're changing and ever evolving.
So if you as a person are growing and changing your body, your mind, your energy,
don't you think that your style should evolve with you?
And that's not to say, oh, every five pounds, I have to go on a shopping spree.
No, but it's buying pieces with intention, things that are going to be versatile to you that
are going to work along your journey that are going to carry you through.
So you're going to have two people at this point in the program.
You're going to have the people that are still on the journey.
Yeah.
And then you're going to have the ones that are completed their journey that said, okay,
I'm great.
I'm solidifying my way.
I'm going forward.
But now how do you want to present yourself to the world?
So we're looking at two different things.
If you're at the end, then let's say, okay, who am I?
Who am I? Where am I? How do I want to be perceived? Now this is a time where you can solidify your weight,
you know, put some intention into a full wardrobe and spend a little bit more money on classic
timeless pieces and go from there. If you're on the journey and you're on the road, I would say,
let's find some pieces that are flexible that can carry you through that even 10 pounds and
five pounds is not going to sway you from having to go buy another five items every week or so.
So we're looking for pieces that can just be flexible, that have stretch, have elastic,
have a little bit of flow to them, that you can change your body, but it's still going to work
with where you are.
Well, what I love about fashion right now is kind of anything goes.
Like, you do you.
But then you have someone like Trudy, he shares, like, all I wear is yoga pants.
Listen, I had my yoga pant era too, right?
all I wear is yoga pants because I have no sense of style for myself.
And that might be like you might not know like you are becoming, right?
Like, you might not know where you land on who you are.
And this is one of the things that we find in maintenance is that people just,
they're learning to get to know themselves all over again and learning to trust too,
especially when it comes to buying a new roadrobe because you lost weight.
Did you, I know you have access to clothes,
but did you experience that fear of like, what if I gained?
the weight back, though. Well, when I originally lost the weight, I was wearing some big mama jeans,
like, and I was just pulling my belt tighter and tighter. And my team at work was like,
Tanya, do you see yourself? Do you see these jeans? It looks like you're wearing a diaper. Like,
they were just like they thought it was comical. And I refused to change my clothes because I'm like,
I love that they were loose because in a way, I was like, look at me.
I have loose jeans.
And in another way, I was scared.
I had fear.
And the fear associated with, well, I'm going to go buy new jeans.
And then I'm just going to gain the weight back.
And these jeans are going to go sit in my closet.
Like, it's so funny how our mind works.
And then there's the fact that you don't even realize you lost the weight.
That's the other crazy thing.
Yes.
It's people stand in front of me at the store sometimes.
And they're like, I'm so big.
And I have so much more weight to lose.
and I'm like, I would trade you in a second for how fantastic you look, right?
So it's all about having, you have to build trust with yourself, I think, for sure.
And I think staying in the clothes that you had previously, like we're not dressing for our
previous selves.
We got to dress for the person we are right now, not the one at the end of the finish line,
not the one that we pass by.
We're really addressing for who we are today for a few reasons.
We're going to give ourselves a lot more confidence.
when you gain that confidence, you're going to step out of your door, a totally different person.
When you have that confidence, you are now going to have more success going forward.
Because when you are feeling good, when you are looking good, when you begin to trust yourself,
you're going to continue on your journey with that confidence.
So you're probably going to be more successful in the end.
So I think that really focusing on who you are today and where you are in your journey,
you might still lose 20 pounds, but it doesn't matter.
If you really want to be successful, I do think how your dressing is going to help you get there.
It also helps you just love yourself right now today with who you are.
This is interesting because we're taught like dress for the job that you want, right?
Like fake it till you make it.
Just for the job that you want.
But if you're not there yet, there could be a lot of insecurity, feeling uncomfortable, not trusting, you know, feeling like an imposter.
Like you still haven't even embraced the changes that you've made.
So I love this concept of dressing where you're at.
And listen, I also know being broke ass in my life that finances, you know,
it can be difficult to get a whole new wardrobe.
You can take your clothes to a tailor if you have clothes you love, get them taken in.
I want to do like, I want to do like, I don't know, like a community swap with clothes.
But I also want to come and do it an in-person event in your store.
We are.
We are.
Yeah.
We are doing it.
In the fall, I promise you, we will do it to kind of get the full energy.
of the experience.
Yeah, where we can actually see the clothes and get dressed and people can try things on
and we can talk about all of that.
You know, I've been putting that off for a while and I'll tell you true transparency.
I know we talked about this because you don't necessarily carry all like triple X L and all of
that.
And that's a conversation, right?
I remember there was one woman who actually got quite upset with me and she's like,
well, you know, Tanya doesn't represent larger, larger women.
And I'm like, she does and she was.
And it's hard because the plus size stores also don't cater to people who don't wear plus size anymore.
And so it's a really complicated conversation.
What do people do with the feels of that?
Let's say I'm always shopping in the plus size and now they don't have anything for me.
And now I got to walk into a store where they don't.
Or if you walk into a store where they don't have your size anymore or, you know, like, that's a lot of feels.
I just make sure.
Like we go back to it. So, you know, online shopping. A lot of people have turned to online shopping. Shopping in the malls is not the same as it used to be. When I was a kid, I remember everybody's day off. They were shopping, browsing the malls. I remember going with my family as a kid just to browse, window shop, going to those stores, trying things on. The whole culture of shopping has really changed, especially with social media and those big companies selling everything that can come to your doorstep in a minute.
But that being said, I feel like nothing is wrong with online shopping.
I just feel like you have to be at a place where you really understand what you're wearing,
what looks good on you, where you're at with that, understand your style.
Because that's how you're doing less returns, right?
But just get a coffee, grab a girlfriend, grab your mom, grab your sister, grab your hubby,
whoever is your shopping, bestie.
Go out to a mall, spend a day.
Shopping is free.
Trying things on is free.
there's absolutely no obligation. And one thing that I will tell you based on my experience is
almost every day, I've been to retail since I was 17. So we're like 20 plus years. And I would say
that people come in and say, I've never shopped here before. And they're intimidated right at the
beginning. And they get frazzled right away. Maybe nothing's for me. I'm too old or I don't even
know where to begin. And I feel like when someone comes in like that, it can be really scary. But
when they're willing to open up and talk about, you know, their lifestyle, what they like,
what they don't like and give us a little bit of information about themselves, I feel like it's
exciting because it gives us a chance to test the waters with them. So I go with a little bit of,
I want to share this method because this is something I teach my team when we're helping our clients.
A same similar different method, there I go again. Same similar different. So what I mean by that is when
you go in, you know what you like. Gina likes wide leg jeans. Gina likes a tailored suit. Gina likes
these things. So find something that's similar to what you like because that's safe.
Then find something similar in the sense that maybe you love black. So let's go to something
navy. Let's just go off a little bit. It's still dark, but it's a little bit different. So this is
your similar. And then we want to go something different. Pull something off the rack that you've
never tried before, something that scares you, something that you don't think works for you.
And go into that fitting room, start with your sames, get into your similars, and then go into
your different. And you might be surprised what actually transpires is you might actually find
items that you didn't think would work for you. Those items might actually work fantastic.
And it will give you a sense of confidence and newness that you didn't think you had before.
So shopping is really psychological. It could be really scary. But it's,
It could actually be really fun.
And I think that we have to like take it back to the old school ways and like get back
in those fitting room and just have fun.
Well, and retrain your brain as you're talking.
I can feel the trauma.
Like I don't like shopping.
Like I, I, I don't like going to the industry.
I think this came from my mom who would always hate when the sales lady said, you know,
can I help you?
Because it was, you know, based on commission or whatever.
And, you know, they try to pressure you into buying.
I don't know what it is.
Maybe it's Julia Roberts and pretty women.
I don't know.
But I have this people ask me and I'm like,
and so I experienced this firsthand with Tanya in her store
where I went to go look for a dress and I wore a hat and I was hiding and on the phone
with my friend.
And one of her people in her store came by and they're like,
hi, are you, Gina?
And I was like, oh, hi.
And they're like, how can I help you?
I'm like, I'm looking for a dress.
And so I did.
I was like, this is what I like this.
And then she brought me over things that were, and I was like, I don't know.
And then I put those clothes on and I was like, whoa, look at, I am Carrie Bradshaw.
Like, look at me.
I like, and this is rewiring your brain and your experience around shopping because so many of us,
let's face it, we're here to lose weight.
Do not really associate shopping with like, oh, so fun.
It's like, let me try to find something that I can wear.
And so I love this idea of kind of like rewiring your brain around.
This I envision like coming to your story, hanging out, you're showing us different pieces,
women trying things on, stepping under their comfort zone, talking about how we feel like
we got to get out of our houses more.
That is a typical Saturday.
I mean, I go home exhausted and it's not from running up and down and folding tops and jeans.
It is literally because my brain is going a mile a minute.
And one thing that drives me is if you come in with a problem, my job is to fix it.
My job is to find a solution because someone who's coming in so low energy, zero confidence,
leaving, laughing, joking, and then coming back, let's double down on it when they come back
and said, I got a million compliments.
I felt so good.
I danced all night.
Like, do you feel that energy?
Like, I just start.
like it just comes on you and and it's so incredible like just last week so it was my birthday it was a
big birthday I threw myself apart. Well happy 40th by the way. Thank you. Oh my God. I can't believe I'm 40.
But I'm 40 with the best energy. Like let's just talk about being way better at 40 than at 35.
Yeah. So I said to myself what how do I want to perceive myself at this party? How do I want people to see me?
What is the energy? Like I'm the main character at my party.
right so you know we got to think about this am i just going to show up in anything no so a lot of the
back work was how do i want to feel this was a conversation i was having with myself all week
do i want to be sexy am i going to be like drinking and dancing and i want to bring that sexy self
pre-kids you know um do i want to feel beautiful do i want to feel elegant playful like what is it so
you know, that's the first step to even before I touched any item on the rack, the first step was like really understanding who I wanted to be in that moment at that party because it can set the tone for everything. And the same goes for drinks with your girls, your new job interview, you know, adventures out with the kids, date night with your hubby, even if you've been married 50 years. It doesn't matter. What do you want to?
to bring to the table and as much as eating your high protein breakfast and getting in your 20 minute
workout and getting outside and breathing the fresh air like this is part of it too and it's a part
that people totally take for granted it's sometimes i just okay when i lose weight i'm going to go
spend on my money and buy a new wardrobe and that's it but it's not that it's not that at all
it's so much more which is why i love this conversation and listen this is not about
selling Tanya store. She's busy enough as it is. But I go into a store like Eritzia and no disrespect or anything,
but like, or Zara. Sorry, I love Eritzia. They're great. But Zara, right? Like there's, there's a lineup of 50 people
deep. No one's helping me. It's chaotic. It's such a, it's not like, the experience is just every time.
This is why I shop online. I want to, a Karen here said, I went to Tanya store in the spring.
The sales lady were so helpful. They brought me some different options I hadn't considered.
And wow. These items look smack.
crashing on me. Every time I wear these tops or pants or dress, I receive several compliments.
This feels absolutely amazing and made the money spent worth it. I am so thankful and we'll be
returning in the fall. Tanya's store, um, value village or, you know, like consignment store,
trading clothes with friends. It doesn't matter where the clothes are coming from. It's your
intention behind the clothes. And I love this. How do you want to feel? And you're right. No one fucking
talks about this part of weight loss.
And this can cause someone to want to gain way back, to fall back into what's comfortable,
what they know, what they are used to.
And it can be absolutely terrifying when it should be joyful and fun and exciting to
dress this body that you work so hard for.
Oh my gosh.
I always love this conversation.
You know what I mean?
What did you say?
I said, see what I mean?
This is why this isn't about just changing your ever, dressing your ever changing body.
Like, yeah, okay, before we go, though, give us some tips for how to, like, if we've lost some weight, considerable amount of weight, if we lost, you know, we're still in our journey. What are some, like, top three tips when it comes to. I would just say you have to buy with intention, dress with intention. I think that's going to make a big difference. You see those beautiful ladies that always look good. Maybe it's that coworker down the hall that is always dressed well. It's not that she's out shopping every day. That's not the reason.
The reason is because she's shopping with intention.
She's using versatility in her back pocket.
She's saying, I love this top.
How can I wear this three different ways at least?
Is this something I'm going to fit into my current wardrobe?
Is it something I might like last season?
And the most important thing is does this look good on me?
Not on the mannequin, not on the influencer, not on Jane down the street.
Does it look good on me?
Do I feel good?
If you start with that, you're going to have a much easier time spending less and finding
items that are a lot more versatile.
And also what I would say is I say this all the time, dressing is supposed to be fun.
You mentioned it at the beginning.
It's not so much about what you're wearing.
It's how you're wearing it.
And right now, trends are playful.
And it's not so much in like wearing big prints and being.
loud. It's understated playfulness. So just a little example. It's summer. You can have fun.
I wanted to show you. I wasn't sure if I was going to wear this or not. So I have a little denim
vest and a white pair of jeans. And let's say I was going out with my girlfriends and I took this
cute little scarf and I put it on my head and now like I have a whole different summer vibe.
So I just took this tiny accessory from Amazon that just didn't cost a thing. And I put it on my head
and I created a whole different energy to my outfit.
Maybe I want to be a little bit playful
and tie it around my neck,
you know, things like that.
Maybe I'm not into scarves on my body,
but maybe I have a little purse
and I want to bring some playfulness on my bag.
Like, how fun.
Like, can you already see the energy flowing
from just a little thing that probably cost me $15?
So things like that.
Just be playful in your accessories.
Have a little fun where you feel comfortable.
and don't put pressure on yourself.
Don't wait.
Start today because once you taste the energy of feeling good,
it is so hard not to want more.
It is like a drug.
Once you get it, you want it and you want more of it and you crave it.
So you will begin to find those successes and it will get easier.
It might start with a little bit of research, some Googling and some social media
influence or following. You could follow me. I try to put things together every day as well.
But once you get in the groove of it, you'll really find yourself in a way that could be really
unexpected. Well, and I love the little gift to yourself too because so many people, listen,
like food is not cheap, right? I was just saying like people are contemplated. Should I get the
membership? Should I not? I had a lobster roll in PEI. Well, I had like six of them. But it was like
$24 for a lobster roll and some fries, right? Like that's what you get the whole membership is literally
the cost of a lobster roll. And so many people will indulge or celebrate themselves by way of food.
Right. Oh, I lost weight. So let me have this, you know, I don't let me have a piece of cake. Let me have a
brownie. Let me. And I love this idea of this simple scarf that can change your whole look, change your
whole feel. If you don't want to wear it on your head, don't want to wear around your neck, put it on
your purse. Like I love that you showed us such a simple thing and the energy that you can bring. I think
we really overthink it.
We really overthink it.
Yeah, I wish I had someone to offer
ideas on how to dress, not frumpy.
