I'm Gina Livi and welcome to the Livi Method Podcast.
This is where you'll have access to all of the live streams from my 91 Day Weight Loss
program.
With a combination of daily lives, guest expert interviews, and member stories, there is something
new almost every day.
Miss the Morning Live?
Want to relisten to one of our amazing guest experts?
Well, this is the place.
This podcast is hosted on a cast,
but it's available on all podcast platforms,
including the one you're listening to right now, Spotify, the final week of the program.
Congratulations.
You made it this far.
This week is definitely still game on for anyone looking to lose.
You're still showing up.
You're personalizing the plan,
you're maximizing, you're gonna carry that
through bridging the gap in between groups.
And then you're gonna restart with our April program
right from day one, hit the ground running.
Today we wanna take talk maintenance
for anyone who's ready.
And if that's you, woo hoo!
Congratulations.
Joining me as always is Kim,
who is the manager of our weight loss program.
And Odette, we are introducing you two,
if you're not familiar with her.
She runs our maintenance program.
So the perfect guest for today.
Hi ladies.
Hello.
Hi.
Happy week 12.
Happy week 12.
How are you feeling?
Good, I'm super excited. This time the program is always so fun. Happy week 12. How are you feeling? Good. I'm super excited.
This time of the program is always so fun, just reading everything the members are sharing
all the things they've accomplished.
And you know, there's so many people in the group that aren't at their goal yet, but still
have so many things to celebrate.
And we're seeing a good number of people who have reached their goal and or are getting
close and are starting to think about next steps.
And so, yeah, this is just perfectly aligned with Odepp being here today with us.
I always like this time of year or this time of the program because, you know, we have members that are in the weight loss group.
And then, you know, we're talking about, you know, this part of their phase ending.
And then their next phase,
the next stage for them is just starting.
So it feels like there's a bit of a,
I don't wanna say we're ramping down on weight loss,
but we're ending this program,
but then we're just starting with the maintenance program,
and people are moving on to that next stage,
which is really exciting.
Yeah, so if you're unfamiliar with the maintenance program,
it is also 91 days and runs on the same timeline
as our weight loss program. So the maintenance program is also in their
final week. Same in terms of what to eat and when and the same tweaks, but the
intention is completely different. The conversation is completely different.
Odette and I have gone through and spoken with Ruth, the research that
she's done on the maintenance program and out of that created the sort of pillars of success when it comes
to people being successful at maintaining their weight.
How would you describe it Odette as different than,
like what can people expect in the maintenance program
versus the weight loss program?
Yeah, we do always say it's the same but different.
So when they come into the maintenance program,
into the maintenance and mindfulness group,
this is where the program is run. A lot of it is going to look familiar. So they're going to
see the food plan come out. They're going to see a lot of the posts that are looking familiar. But
when you really get into it, and you get into the intention and the messaging behind the information
we're putting out, we're going a little bit deeper. It's almost like a leveling up.
So it's not about how much water do I need to drink.
It's how much water does my body really need
at this point and where I am?
Am I in tune to that?
When we talk about things like supplements,
we're not introducing basic supplements.
We're asking you to level up,
really get in tune to personalizing how this part of your
journey is going to be for you.
You know, it's not just first steps.
It's really taking everything to the next level.
It's a, it's, you're taking the tools and the skills that you've learned here in the
weight loss group and you're applying them to help you reprogram your thinking, to help you move past this place of being a dieter to
being a person that is able to maintain. And how the group is run is similar. Our program specialists
are in there, posts come out every day. You can ask your questions. You can just comment.
We encourage our members to engage with each other, talk about your experience here. Because for a lot of members, this place of maintaining
or just this conversation of maintaining
and sustaining weight has never been had before.
They're not really sure what it means.
And just to feel comfortable
that this is an open conversation,
you can talk about your struggles,
you can talk about your wins.
We're gonna talk about your struggles. You can talk about your wins. You can, we're gonna talk about fear
and how, you know, when those doubts come up
or those limiting beliefs come up,
because we know these things do come up.
This is a space where we can talk about them
so that we don't feel like we've,
we are defeated or we failed and we're spiraling,
you know, back into this gold cycle of dieting
and gaining it back and dieting and gaining it back.
Yeah.
Well, we know that the maintenance program is there for you to solidify your weight physically,
but also solidify that mindset.
And I've been saying it a lot in the last couple of weeks.
What you're learning while you're losing weight is going to help you maintain your weight
and what you learn and you work through when you do while you are actively working on maintaining and sustaining your weight
is going to help you be able to move on to that third live your life with the tools and
the skills that you need to be able to easily continue to sustain and maintain your weight.
Maybe we can get into here's someone hi ladies I'm so scared to move on to maintenance.
I was just going to say Kim maybe we should talk about sort of where people at and how they're feeling about maintenance scared as one of them
Totally valid right? How many times have you lost your weight and gained it all back before and I can tell you with the living
Method and you probably know you've gone about it a different way in a healthy way
And you have a fighting chance of being able to sustain and maintain your weight
But there is a lot of
work when it comes to maintaining your weight when we
oh, that night when we started this maintenance program a few
years ago, one, I didn't even think we needed it to boy was I
wrong. And three, we have learned so much over the last
couple years through all the different conversations, the
thoughts and the fields that people have while they
are maintaining. So scared is one of them. What are some of the other feelings that people
or the issues that people are having with maintenance?
Yeah, I think fear is one of them. Definitely. Just that whole past diet experience of finishing.
I think, you know, just really highlighting the difference. Like we're not giving you
a hard stop and throwing you out of the nest.
That's why the main program is there
as you're sort of to kind of transition you
into that next stage of your weight loss journey.
I think the other one is, and a big one that we see is
it's not so much fear, but I think the term
that keeps popping in my head is FOMO.
It's not sort of necessarily a fear maybe as much as a,
but this is my routine, but this is what I do.
And I think a lot of that comes from past experience
where you had to keep doing the same thing
if you wanted to keep the weight off.
And that's where that kind of same but different comes in
with the maintenance program in that you're transitioning into a program that is it's still there to support you.
But you're really more independent. You have to do a lot more of like, how does this affect me? You have to dig into the things.
And I think it sounds scary to think about I'm going off on my own, but when you're in the weight loss group and you are looking to lose weight, your number one focus and what. And that frees up your time to think about
how you really feel as you're going through
all of the steps and the tweaks
and going through that program.
So it is different once you've reached your goal.
My advice to members would be,
don't worry about maintenance
until you're ready for maintenance.
Because it's going to feel different
when you've reached your goal and you're ready for it
than it does when you're like 10 pounds away from your goal
and you're thinking, oh, but what about when this is done?
What do I do when this is over?
That future tripping isn't going to serve you
because you're gonna be in a different place
once you get there.
Yeah, so a couple of things.
The weight loss program is for losing weight.
The maintenance program is for when you are done
trying to see the scale move.
You might still end up losing a few pounds, but you don't want to get caught in no, no man's own not really understanding where you're at. So if you are watching or listening and you're wondering what to do if you still have weight to lose, sign up for the weight loss program and do another round of weight loss program. There's no downside to that. The maintenance program is really focused on maintenance people who are done done losing, although we do talk about back on track, people's weight does fluctuate, people can gain weight back
if they haven't been putting time into maintenance or for a variety of reasons. So we talk about that.
We talk about people who've been in maintenance for a while and then decide that they want to go
back for more. So not to say that that conversation isn't there, but it's not the place to go to try to lose weight.
And I do want to say there is all of the guidance
and structure.
So there are weekly tweaks.
The same as that you do in the weight loss program,
but it's all about the intention.
And each week has a different focus and maintenance
than it does.
It's an entirely different meaning and experience
and maintenance than it is in the weight loss program. What do you got to say, Odette?
Yeah, just to see your point that each week does have a tweak and we often have members
saying, why am I doing downsizing still in maintenance? Spoiler alert, you're still doing
downsizing in the maintenance program. Why am I doing feeding the metabolism? And when
we look at these tweaks and we're going through these tweaks, we're going a bit deeper in terms of, you know, what does downsizing bring up for you?
You know, is it making you recognize that you have been less mindful and those portions have been creeping back in again?
Is it helping you recognize when habits are starting to come back again?
And, you know, are you starting to notice that maybe your mindfulness has started to slip a little bit?
So it's not just about that physical feeling of, you know, of knowing what slightly unsatisfied means,
so I know what satisfied means.
It's all about the awareness and creating a deeper intuition with yourself and noticing what that brings up.
You know, it's easy to go through the motions and just follow the food plan and, you know, think,
oh, I know what I'm doing here, I'm just gonna do it.
But we're gonna have you ask yourself those questions.
How am I feeling here?
What is coming up for me here?
Have I noticed this coming up?
So that's why when we talk about the tweaks,
yes, they're the same.
It's a familiar place.
So you have the capacity to think about other things,
but the intention and the messaging behind the tweaks is different.
Yeah, you can lose your weight and still not be confident in when to eat, what to eat,
and how much to eat. You can have reached your goal and still not trust yourself. You can have
reached your goal and still fall back into old habits because you have to spend more time
solidifying all those new habits. And so here's what you can't do. You can't do the Libby method
and then gain weight back and being like, the Libby method didn't work. I gained my weight back
because you need to understand how not to gain your weight back. And you need to understand if
you do gain your weight, why you gained your weight back, right? It's it's like if I offered a cleaning service, and came into your home and help you
clean your house, and it was spotless and organized, then when I leave, you have to walk in the door,
put your shoes away. Not just leave them at the door, you have to put your laundry in the basket,
then do your laundry, not let it pile up in your laundry room, you have to do your dishes, you have to put your laundry in the basket, then do your laundry, not let it pile up in your laundry room.
You have to do your dishes.
You have to put things back the way that they were.
There's a certain,
you have to do the things that you need to do
to maintain that.
And essentially it's very similar
with the weight loss program.
You've gone and made all this change.
You have to maintain and sustain that change.
So you can't be falling back into old,
you do fall back into old habits. This is why you get right back on track. But you have to be aware. And so there's three reasons why people gain weight back not putting time into solidifying their weight, you'll do that just by doing another round of the program or signing up for the maintenance program. So for example, if you've done three programs, you lost 30 pounds in your first program, by the time you're done your second program, you've solidified that 30 pounds.
Whatever you lose in that second program, you're solidifying that third program.
You lose weight in your third program.
You reach your goal weight.
Now you want to go into maintenance and do a round of maintenance to solidify not just
your weight, but then your mindset, which is your beliefs and your issues and associations
and habits.
And you wanna do that until you are ready to be like,
I don't need to ask the four questions.
I know exactly when to eat, what to eat, how much to eat.
I am competent, I am in tune, I am self-aware,
and you are just ready to just go live your life, right?
So, yeah, so this is why you've gotta go
through a three weeks, few weeks in downsizing, even if you did
three programs. So six weeks in downsizing is nothing in terms
of trying to get in tune to your portions, trying to understand
what hunger is versus satisfied versus, you know, full or
whatnot, right? So there's still so much to learn.
Still. Yeah, and I think people want to rush through this
process, because they've been trying for so
long and they're at that point where like, I just want to enjoy my life.
I want to be at that place where I can wake up and feel good and look good.
So they want to rush the process.
They want to rush to get there.
And I think that's, I mean, that's the case with any goal.
You want to be there.
It's there's, that's not strange to want to rush through it.
Unfortunately, it just is going to take the time it takes
for you to get there.
And part of the process and what you learn along the way
and how much work you put into that process
is going to have a huge difference in the outcome
and actually how quickly.
So if you're all in to that solidifying of your weight,
that's going to make you more successful in maintaining your weight than if you're all in to that solidifying of your weight, that's going to make you more successful
in maintaining your weight than if you're just kind of like,
I just want to have this done and just want to be over.
I want to rush through this so that I can get to that point.
So I think putting the work in is definitely worth the,
the outcome will be worth it.
Let's take a minute out to hear
from our podcast sponsor today.
I mean, listen, we're always talking about how important it is to take care of your skin.
Your skin is your body's largest organ.
We also talk about the importance of creating routines, especially a nighttime routine that
can help us sleep.
But this one here is for the new moms because Aveeno has a product for newborn babies.
Skin is the first line of defense and baby skin is about
30 percent thinner than our mature skin, making it even more important to take action to help
strengthen skin moisture barrier. So using the power of oats as the hero ingredient, Avino Baby
harnesses the power of oat to help achieve skin hydration. So if you're looking to learn more about
how you can maintain and strengthen your baby's
skincare, head over to the website, avino.ca.
That's A-V-E-E-N-O.ca.
Yeah.
So it's three reasons people gain back.
They don't put time into too solidifying.
So during the maintenance program, it takes care of that.
A situational change, right?
Not adapting to situational change.
Things happen in your life.
You fall back into old habits without recognizing,
check yourself before you break yourself
and not being mindful.
You don't gain 20 pounds back and not noticed.
So it's continued to be mindful.
Odette, what do you, I see you, what do you wanna say?
Yeah, so I think the situational change is a big one.
When you take this time now in maintenance,
you're experiencing a lot of these firsts, like your first
holiday season, your first stressful situation, your first, I mean, I don't want to say, you know, God forbid something happens
that you have to navigate all of these things that would have you spiraling back into or slipping back into old coping mechanisms, old habits, you know, with the support of the maintenance program. And then even just the
support of the maintenance and mindfulness group after this is where we're going to help you work
through these situations because you can think, oh, I lost my way to home. Now I'm going back to
work. No big deal. But what happens when something really triggers you? And you know, this word trigger is used quite often, you know, around us, excuse me, but what happens when
something is thrown at you and you just think I only have my old coping mechanisms? You know,
we're going to teach you that and help you learn what new coping mechanisms can be for you, how you
can move through these situations. It's so much more than just what to eat and when,
it's about how do you really solidify your mindset,
but also solidify this new lifestyle.
How do you recognize and accept the person that you are now?
You are not this diet or you are this person who is here
to learn how to maintain your weight with the tools,
with the skills that you have,
but really putting it into practice.
Yeah, there's a there's a lot to be triggered by. And it is that
full year cycle, like you're it takes your body temperature like
a full year to adjust to different seasons having lost
the weight, your body's still adjusting physically, and then
it's so easy. You know, celebratory days, you know,
whatever kind of significant days that pop up in your life
and events that happen.
And if you've never experienced something before, it's so easy to fall back into those old patterns and habits for sure.
Yeah, we're seeing even this week just with the ice storms that you guys are experiencing.
I was out east as a couple people have come in the group and said, like, I like I crumbled.
My routine crumbled because I had no power, my routine crumbled,
because I realized, like, I couldn't get out on the road,
and I didn't have my groceries, I wasn't prepared. But what
they got out of it was learning what they can do moving forward
to make sure that they're not caught off guard when something
happens. So you know, you see it, if things can come up, it
doesn't need to be a major trauma to create situational
change, or an opportunity to
challenge yourself and see where you're at. Yeah. And that's what the two weeks in between
the break is. It's an opportunity to challenge yourself and see where you're at. And if you're
freaking out because the two weeks in between the break, definitely get your... Why haven't you
signed up yet? I know there's so many people who haven't signed up yet for the April program, and yet here you are
doing the program, you're worried about what's gonna happen
in between the break, and you haven't even signed up
for the program yet, right?
Like this is, that gives you an opportunity.
Whatever you end up doing during the break
is a great insight into what you need to focus on,
what you need to do, your, I don't wanna say areas
of weakness, but areas you might wanna pay
particular attention to, because these are, it areas you might want to pay particular attention to,
because these are, it's a great way of these things coming up
and you being able to work through them
within the boundaries of the program itself
in a safe space to work through those.
So, yeah.
All right, what do we want to add Odette,
before we go today?
I just want members, you know,
they are ready for maintenance and we are hearing that they members, you know, they are ready for maintenance
and we are hearing that they're, you know, they're fearful.
We use that term festering in their fear a lot
in the maintenance group.
We know that fear can hold you back.
So we are gonna help you work through that fear.
Self-doubt is another big one,
really not believing in yourself.
So not being fear,
so being fearful that you're going to fail, this is not
going to work, but also just not believing that you even have the ability to get there. So these
are, you know, we're going to talk about that. And I want people to know that, you know, they've gone
through this weight loss program, you have learned so much already. And when you come to maintenance,
it's not like you have to learn all of these new things. It's just taking what you have learned
and applying it in a different way.
And it's, you know, you look at,
we hear some members saying like,
let's look at the weight loss program as a course,
you know, and taking what you've learned.
And now, you know, the maintenance program
is really the application of it.
Let's take what we've learned and really solidify it,
solidify it physically, solidify it mentally.
Let's look at that, let's look at who we are now
and how we're gonna get there.
So I think, you know, and we have a lot of fun in the group.
I feel like, you know, it's not all just fear and self-doubt
and I don't trust myself and oh my gosh,
this place has got a gray cloud over it.
No, we have a lot of fun and we have real conversations.
The members over there, they know us, they know each other.
So we're really open to having any conversation we need to have, you know, whatever it might be.
And it's Kim used this reference earlier, you know, we're not throwing you out of the nest here.
We're not saying, okay, you've lost your weight, see you later, figure it out.
It's you've got this safe place to come and land, work through any issues that come up.
There's no rush there.
So yeah, I'm really excited for people to come in
and come in with those fresh eyes and with an open mind,
you know, come in with an open mind.
Yeah, I love that.
Open mind, especially for sure.
And expect it to be a different experience.
I think sometimes people are afraid to leave as well,
and they like the comfort of the the the groups and so just to
let everyone know I am working on that third space a place where even if you're in weight loss or
you're maintaining or you're done a place where we can talk about other things like living your life
you know whether it's cooking stuff fitness stuff lifestyle stuff I've realized that our community
is so special and people don't
want to leave that because it's this great space. It's an amazing community. It's very
rare and it's really special. And we've invested a lot of our time in it. And so we are looking
for a place that no matter where you are in your journey, you can hang out with our community
and feel safe
and you know, have some really elevated
and forward moving conversations.
So that is coming.
So sometimes people are fearful,
they don't wanna move on
because like they're comfortable where they're at.
So just to say there is something coming
if you're worried about kind of just stepping outside,
you'll be able to stay connected to our community.
I wanna say though, if you're worried, don't be worried about going into the
maintenance program because it is amazing there. It's actually, it's actually so fun.
Odette has done an amazing job of building a place where there is lots of fun. She does the best polls.
Want to weigh in on the hot topics? Odette is the one. She will get you engaged.
But just I love seeing how the community engagement is different
because you're really all experts in your own journey.
And you really see that shared in the maintenance group.
It's a lot. It's a lot of shared experiences and a lot of support that way.
It's different when you come to the weight loss group.
You're really looking to, you know, our team and our expertise and weight loss and, you know, the program. When you go into maintenance, it's, Odette has done an amazing job, I think, of curating this like space where you can really have your own experience and connect with others and all of those experiences aren't going to be the same. But they all have a place and every time someone shares it really encourages somebody else to be in there. So I have to say it
is a really good fun place. So don't, don't be scared. Oh, that's quite kind. Yeah. Most of the time
I like this comment from Pam. I thought I would miss the normal groups, but when I really look
forward to, but I, but I am really looking forward to maintenance. Some familiar faces will be there
and we need to leave room here for the new members too. Eventually, I hope everyone gets to the maintenance group and we'll all be there together. I mean, that is the goal, right? It's this place
you want to get, you wanted to lose your weight, you wanted to reach your goal, you want to get
to maintenance, you want to go into maintenance, you want to feel confident about living your life without having to ever focus on weight loss again.
That's the goal, but I think for some people they've been chasing that for so long,
and now that it's so close, that can bring up a lot of feels.
How do you register for the group, someone's asked?
So you just go to, you know, I like that. It's been therapeutic for me, knowing that others are
going through the same thing. Yeah, I love the conversations that we have in maintenance. They are next level and
they're conversations nobody is having. Nobody is having. When you get in there, you're like, no wonder we weren't able
to maintain and sustain our weight because you know, there's, there's, there's work there. All you have to do is go to
our website, GinaLivy.com and on our shop page or programs page, you will see
the weight loss program, the maintenance program and our menopause add-on, which is like a self-guided
course. Right now, we're just finishing up the last week of a six-week cohort. We'll probably do
that again in the spring, but that's when you'll be able to find that. We did post today in the
group the link as well. There is a post today with, there's a
couple posts, the Let's Talk Maintenance post and a maintenance sign up link. So if you just head
to the discussion page or the links in the Q copy today, you'll find the links there as well for
those that are looking to join in. Yeah. And then, and it's, and then once you're there, same as
with the weight loss group, you're going to have your code, your seven digit code. You just request to join.
The team is there.
They'll let you in and then you're there.
You're there with us ready to go.
I love it.
Anything else before we go, ladies?
No, just a little note to those two little notes.
One of them, please fill out the survey.
I know Gina, you said that earlier, but don't forget to fill out the end of program survey.
The feedback that you guys give us is really instrumental in us being able to take this program to the
next level for the next round. So make sure you share how you feel, how you're doing,
all of that. And for the members that are still looking to lose and have a little ways
to go before you join Odette and the maintenance group, we still have, what do we have now? Thursday, Friday,
four days left in the program. I don't know how many days are left. You can finish this strong.
A couple of people are feeling like they're taking their foot off the gas or winding down.
Don't do that. Don't do that. We still have time to get that scale moving into lose weight. And you really want to roll into next Monday, which is the first day of you kind of navigating
that break between groups on your own.
You want to go in there feeling super motivated, strong and confident.
And the best way to do that is to really make the most of these final four days in the program,
ask all the questions you need from the team and set yourself up for success.
Yeah.
People are like, I don't know if the scale is just not moving this week, but then they're also
not, they're just not doing anything. Like, this is still game on, do all the things. You can,
lots of questions about, can you purchase the maintenance program now and save it for later?
Absolutely, you can. If you, if you're ready for maintenance, you can, the next maintenance program
starts April 21st, but you can pop in and get into the group maintenance you can the next maintenance program starts April 21st
But you can pop in and get into the group at any time. It's all online
So we don't have an app for it yet
We are working on that as it stands right now the maintenance group and program is done in the maintenance support group
would someone say here I
Saw something I was oh, yes
I was saying I need a Gina in a bottle for the next two weeks. So you
know, listening to the podcast, you know, rewatching some of the
guest experts segments, continuing with your own routine
is really important. Whatever your routine was in the morning,
keep going with that routine. It's not like a two week break.
It's just a two week opportunity to, you know, well, I guess have a bit of a
break. I don't know how you say it, but continue with your
routine. So I'm saying I would also love to see sometimes
subscriptions to the podcast or support when you are ready to
live the Libby way on your own. Yeah, we're working on all that
for you. Fill out that survey. Let us know what you think. Fill
out the survey.
Make sure you ask all the questions that you need before we are done on Sunday.
Make sure you're feeling confident on next steps.
Congratulations for still being here.
Congratulations to everyone who's ready for maintenance.
You're gonna love the maintenance program,
the conversations that we have over there.
As always, thank you, Kim,
and thank you, Adette, for joining us today.
Until next time, y'all, have a great rest of your day.
Thanks. Have a great day.
Thanks. Bye.
