The Livy Method Podcast - You Didn't Fall Off. You Took a Break.

Episode Date: August 31, 2026

If the weight crept back on this summer, nothing is broken, your routine changed, and your body followed.Gina unpacks why weight regain after 40 has less to do with willpower than with the things that... quietly shifted: longer days, later dinners, less water, less sleep and old habits that never fully left. She gets into set point range and why your weight was always meant to move within a 5–10 pound window, why "A-type" people crush weight loss and then struggle in maintenance, and what food noise actually is, including what GLP-1 medications do to it and what they still can't do for you. This podcast aligns with Aug 31st of our Summer Club, members can find video in our Livy Method app or Summer Club Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/livymethodspring20 Hosted on Acast. Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm going to be honest with you, this podcast is unapologetically a hot mess because that is what midlife feels like sometimes. Why, though? And how do we make it better? Do we all just need facelifts and g-lp-ones? I mean, let's talk about it. No bullshit, no wellness wankery here because we're trying to make real change and change is hard. But we're in this together. Welcome to the Living Method podcast.
Starting point is 00:00:25 If you're looking to lose weight and you want to keep it off, you have got to check out the Living Method. Next live session starts September 14th. Better than ever. Easy to follow. We have the most incredible community, and it works. Head over to living method.com to sign out today. Good morning. Happy Monday.
Starting point is 00:00:54 How's everyone doing? I was just in the comment section. I'm just trying to get myself sorted and situated. There's something about a rainy day. I don't know. I love the rain. But then, you know, I don't like to drive in the rain. I just, I find my brain goes a little wonky in the rain.
Starting point is 00:01:11 How are we? How's the summer been? Are we feeling, are we kind of feeling this shift yet over to fall? Are we still in full-blown summer mode? How are we doing? Let me know where you're at. I'm just going to get my iPad set up here. I've got all these little ceramics for one of my kids' birthday.
Starting point is 00:01:32 We went and painted ceramics. We just got them back yesterday. all over the table here. I also have a dining room full of my new book. So someone was asking me today, when does it chip? Well, I got a story for you. So hang on. First of all, you got to enter to win our giveaway. So we're giving away a couple of these books, a couple of prize packs for you. But my new book came in. It's absolutely beautiful. I'm so happy with it. So basically, I took everything that I've learned, you know, about making change in life. And this has a lot of the lifestyle stuff that we talk about in the program. I mean, we really focus on the foods,
Starting point is 00:02:12 what to eat and when and stress and sleep and all those things. But I put in a lot of our tips from the program into this book, but also shared some personal stories and whatnot and did it with my friend Lynn and Norma. So we set out, if you know the story, Indigo reached out. We had Greta who's incredible. She's coming on next week. By the way, Greta's going to be back. Greta Podliski is going to be back and joining us. And so we had her on with her fabulous book, every salad ever. And they were like, hey, do you want to do a book?
Starting point is 00:02:43 And I'm like, I have books. And I was like, yeah, if I do a book, I want to do a recipe for lifestyle book. There's no recipes in this. Well, I'm going to leave that to granted, but it's like a recipe for lifestyle. Anyway, the book is absolutely beautiful. I have a ton of them in my house, all boxed up.
Starting point is 00:03:03 But let me tell you what happened. So it's just absolutely gorgeous. So there's like little tips in it and some stories that I'm sharing. My friend Lynn, the treehouse lady that I've shared over the years, did the design part of it. You designing your house to be like more of a wellness partner. And it's all really like great tips. Nothing fru-frue and over the top. It's not like go spend $10,000 on a new account.
Starting point is 00:03:27 You know what I'm saying? But if you want to do that, go do that. And then my friend Norman did the travel section. So the book was beautiful. We got it delivered and then we noticed that the acknowledgments page on page 285 has was put on page 255. Long story short, they've had to reprint the whole book. So it's going to take a little longer than September 8th to come out. A couple extra weeks, but it's on its way. Let me log in so I can shout with you guys and see where you're at and what is going. There we are. There we are. All right. Hello. Good morning. Good morning. Can't believe it's the end of August, Ruth. Not ready for summer to be over. On another note, I'm down two pounds. The scale finally moved. Love this. All right. So where are we with that? Like, how are you guys feeling? You're moving hardcore. You're just trying to get caught up from the summer. What's your plan? So our fall group, our fall session is going to start on September 14th. So we do have a new fall support group for that. We'll get. give you the link, everything that you need to know about that. So all you need to do is continue to show up. If you're part of our membership, if you are not part of our membership and you haven't purchased our fall program, make sure you do that. You can go over to our website. But we're
Starting point is 00:04:50 going to be focused pretty hardcore. We're going to be focusing hardcore on getting and keeping that scale moving. But we're going to make it so easy for you to follow and stay motivated. So we've got a ton of food stuff coming, some exercises that we're going to be adding to the mix. So you know one of the things that occurred to me is we just keep adding more and more and more information so when i first started these these groups when i was on my own and someone asked question and i would create a post that would you know talk about or address whatever question that was because it was just me right so 10 people asked me how much water to drink i would create a post for that and so this is where so many posts got created and then of course you know i had a team of people
Starting point is 00:05:34 who are in the group answering questions and whatnot. And we've streamlined the information and we've organized the information, but it's the same amount of information. And now we have our incredible apps. We have our team of people in the group answer questions, plus our apps. We're really going to streamline the information. Everyone also asked for the group to be a little bit more community-based.
Starting point is 00:05:56 So really want to hear from you. What are the types of things that you want to talk about and also create an opportunity for not only people to connect, But have conversations and share experiences. Yeah, I'm looking forward to that. Starting back, tracking on the app today took a bit and ready to reboot, right? So there's no right way or wrong way. If you think about diets, like if you think I've been giving this a lot of thought,
Starting point is 00:06:20 like that. So if you think about other diets that you've done, you are just eating less, counting, weighing, measuring, trying to exercise a bit more. I don't know if you were as mindful, you know, when it came to paying attention. attention to your stress, trying to get better sleep. Obviously, we know that those have a big impact on your weight. The conversation in the past with your weight journey probably not focused so much on hormones, which as we know is a huge part of the conversation, right? And so this is where this kind of puts it all together. And with the app, what I love about that is we know that when people
Starting point is 00:06:59 put pen to paper or they actively journal like using your app, you are a bit of a little. You are more likely to show up and continue to follow through on your goals. But you're allowed to take breaks. That's the thing. There were times in your life where you were focused on losing weight that, you know, was like life aligned and it was easier for you to do that. And then there was times where you took breaks, right? And this is no different. And so many senses, I love the 91 day structure and that like we're setting aside 91 days and here's a start date and here's an end date and let's go and we're all doing it together. But, you know, your journey, ends when you reach your goal. And then a new one begins when it comes to starting to maintain
Starting point is 00:07:40 that way. So it's so normal to take, take breaks. I'm a massive fan of the step back. I'm a massive fan of the step back. I remember in my earlier years in TV, I had a conversation. So I had taken time off on TV, took a time off away from TV, and I had a meeting with Moses Nymer. And we were talking about this. He had run like city TV back in the day. This is like nostalgic for me with my TV appearance on Friday. And we talked about this and he's like, well, what's the difference between like you just quit something or you just took a break for something, right? When you quit something, you move on and do something else. When you take a break for something, sometimes that's the best thing that you can do because you can't see the forest from the trees. You're so close to
Starting point is 00:08:29 it. You want it so bad. You're just, it's all like, eh. So taking that. step back and having the opportunity to like come back stronger and with a different perspective, right? That's why I love the breaks in between programs as much as I love the summer club. Don't get me wrong. And of course, our journey still continues in between groups. Sometimes it's a it's great to take a step back and be like, okay, how like where am I at? What do I need? How am I? What are the things I'm going to change? What are the things I need to do to keep going, right? I think taking a step back is one of the most powerful things that you can do. Did anyone try hypnosis for help during the living method? Thanks, Rose. So we, I actually had
Starting point is 00:09:11 someone on who does this, who does, who does, so hypnosis is kind of like training your brain. I actually think there's something to it. Hypnosis is kind of training your brain to more specifically focus on things that are more in line with your goals. And so we had someone's who is, I don't know if you call them a hypnotist, but who does hypnosis with not only just quitting smoking, but addictive behavior. Weight loss is, was also obviously something that we talked to with her. So I'm trying to think of her name, Ronnie, Ronnie. I think her name's Ronnie. So if you go into the Living Method podcast and you search up hypnosis, I'm sure it will come up, I'm sure it'll come up. But it's really interesting because hypnosis is retraining,
Starting point is 00:10:03 retraining and rewiring your brain. So if you look at it as being less hokey and more like a practice to help you rewire your brain. That's what your brain is always like rewiring and reconnecting, right? That's that neuroplasticity. Your brain is meant to change. And a lot of times the reason why we get stuck is because we just keep recreating and going back into old conversations, for example. So if you ever had that conversation or you regret or you're like kind of like, you're kind of going through your mind of what happened and recreating that with trauma. This happens with trauma a lot. Your body, your brain doesn't know time that way. And so it feels in the moment that that exact same thing is happening. And so that keeps you stuck. That's why it feels like
Starting point is 00:10:56 like just happened, especially when it comes to trauma. So that's how it keeps you stuck. And so you've got to rewire that rewire your brain and try to prevent going back into that old pattern. And this is what food noise is. So this is why I think hypnosis is cool because food noise is the way your brain has been wired to thoughts around food. Right. And so that's why, you know, people taking JLP1, they find that really helpful because that overabundance of JLP1. which is a hormone that lets your body know that when you're full, when you've had enough,
Starting point is 00:11:31 that kicks in for about 30 seconds to 90 seconds that people are injecting. So it sticks around in the body a lot longer, overrides your, because you're not hungry, right? And so then you're not being triggered by food. And those thoughts aren't being, those patterns of thoughts aren't being triggered, which is really cool. So hypnosis, I believe it or not, I think, I listen, anything that's going to help you change behavior, learn more about yourself.
Starting point is 00:11:58 I'm on board with. So you might want to go check that out. Go check that out. Hi, MJ. How are you? Looking good. I showered. That always makes a big difference, right?
Starting point is 00:12:08 This summer's break has been full of sunshine, ice cream, and beer, as it should be. As it should be. I love it. I'm looking forward to fall mode. I made soup yesterday and also made some oats. I love the fall. Yeah, I think the fall is, I mean, your body is wired. to change with seasons. And this is where you do what how do you how do you adapt to where you are
Starting point is 00:12:31 at? So your body is wired to adapt with season. So the change in temperature for example, you'll start looking for those, you know, it's kind of more comforty types of foods. Whereas spring, so you know the wintertime when spring stays get longer, you know, the sun is shining, temperature is rising, we start to look for those fresh foods. Like we want the we want the fruits and the salads and the veggies and all of those. And now we are feeling the fall, just like how the geese, you know, fly south for the winter.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Same thing. The fish swim upstream in the spring. Same thing. So our bodies are really wired to that. And so this is where we want to transition now. So when it's not as hot, we want to go less fruits. And then we need our carbohydrates, though.
Starting point is 00:13:20 So this is where you can start bumping up your other carbohydrates, vegetables, you know, things like potatoes, uh, rice, kinoa, those types of things. So that's where you want to decrease the, start to decrease the fruits when it's not as hot and increase those heavier carbs. Although it is like stone fruit season. So it's like peach and nectar rain season. So it's still, we don't want to miss that. We don't want to miss that. We still want to get there. Hi, Sandy took a break this summer, but it was nice to check in every morning when I felt I needed it. Tried to maintain my weight, but up a little bit, ready for the fall to continue with
Starting point is 00:13:53 the weight loss wondering will you have copies of your book at the IPM would love a sign copy oh no i don't think i'm going to make it with my reprint so i've had to reprint the book because the printer made a mistake and printed the wrong i'll show you all print it i was just showing in case you missed it um so if you go to the my copy of the book at first listen at first i thought you know what when i heard about it because it's beautiful otherwise when i heard about it I was like, oh, it's okay. Like, it's fine. It's progress over perfection, right? Progress over perfection. Um, you know, it's fine. I'll make it work. And then I was like, you know what? No. No, I want, I want the book to be perfect. I worked really hard on it. It's absolutely gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:14:39 I don't want to make things work. There's a time in your life when you make things work. And then there's just certain things I don't want to make work anymore. It's either going to work or it's not going to work. And I was like, this ain't working for me. Of course, the printer company would have saved themselves a lot of money, and they would have been really happy with that. But I was like, no, I want this book to be perfect. And so if you missed it, they put in page 285. So if you're going to Matt, I was, I was, I might have like cried a little bit.
Starting point is 00:15:09 I might have cried a little bit. But at the end of the day, it's so beautiful. I was like, you know, I'm really proud of this book. So, so yeah, there we go. here's page 255 and then damn the acknowledgment page is right there at the end of the book but the book's not done um so they've had to do a bit of a reprint i'm i'm talking to the printer every day uh it's going to probably be a couple week delay so um if i do have copies for i what was the goal to actually have copies to bring with me the international plowing match if you're wondering so i'm going to be there
Starting point is 00:15:45 um i'm going to be i'm going to i'm going to i'm going to be there it's in wiretoyerton is it in wireton No, is it? Walkerton. Walkerton? Walkerton. I'm going to be at the international plowing match. I am a small town girl. I love going to the small fairs and watching plowing match. And of course, bigger than that is farmers. And, you know, that's where we get our food from. And farmers are so important. So I'm going to be going and I've got two shows that I'm doing on the 19th. The 19th, September 19th. So if you want to come and take the beautiful drive up and there's so much that they have going on. It's like a huge, massive event, like hundreds of thousands of people go to this event. So if you're going to be, or you want to go up for the weekend, there are tickets available.
Starting point is 00:16:32 But I'm going to do my best to have books there and at the menopause show, but I don't know. Yeah. I don't know. So keep you posted. Hi, Michelle. Found the program in January. Really worked and changed a great deal. 22 pounds down, night eating gone, et cetera. Last couple weeks losing my grip on that why really thought old way is gone you know wait for the poll program you know here's why because like a lot of time spent spending spent living that way in your life right so food food issues are issues and associations tied around food it is habits and the way we live traumas um our relationship with food like there's we use food for so many things right we use food to um show love hi I baked you some muffins to bond over, socialize, right, to celebrate, to self-sooth.
Starting point is 00:17:26 So there's a lot that goes in there. So a lot of times what happened when you do the program, you get the routine. The routine is really key. It's kind of like the program works really well for A type people. People like to follow quote unquote rules, although there's no rules. There's guidelines, but there's certain things you need to do to achieve goals, right? And so you do this, your body should respond like that. and if you are doing this and it's not responding, you want to figure out why.
Starting point is 00:17:50 And so sometimes it's easy to be like, okay, you tick off the things and you do all the things and then you're like, you're successful, but like eight type people, right? It will crush the weight loss program, but then they really get challenged in the maintenance program where now they have to learn to trust themselves, when to eat, what, teen, how much. So there's a few reasons, right? Change and routine. So the summer can be, so let's talk about why people gain weight back. So people get a way back for a couple of reasons.
Starting point is 00:18:16 They don't give their body time to adjust to their new weight. And then they go back into old habits. So your body needs to adjust your blood flow, hormones, body temperature, all of that. Sides of your heart needs to adjust to your new weight. So you've got to give it time. That's why after you've done losing weight, you absolutely want to put time into maintenance. But going back into old habits, really. Situational change.
Starting point is 00:18:37 So this could be though, right? In the spring, maybe you're a teacher. In the spring, you had a certain routine. and now you're like summer, free rain, I got more flexibility, but then that kind of threw you off a little bit. Or even if you still are working throughout the summer, you know, going here, going there, road trips, whatever, kind of threw you off a little bit. And how does it throw you off? Because we tend to dip back into old habits, nighttime eating, not drinking enough water during the day, which can make you kind of extra hungry in the evening. Or perhaps it could be something like, you know, that's a benefit, like you're being more active, right? you're being more active, but then also if you're not drinking enough water to offset that in the summertime,
Starting point is 00:19:18 you're sweating, you're not drinking enough water, that can lead you being hungrier, plus you are maybe hungrier because maybe you started working out. Right. So something has changed probably that has thrown you off a little bit. And so that's why it's about finding kind of like being able to adapt to that. Also, the days were longer. So people got used to their certain like eating schedule. And then all of a sudden when you, you know, it used to get dark out at like five. o'clock, six o'clock, seven o'clock, now you're talking a couple extra hours. Maybe you are, you know, you're swimming. Maybe you're gardening.
Starting point is 00:19:50 Maybe you're just staying out later, right? So, and then, of course, sleep. So all of that can change with our sleep routine. So this is where you want to really, I would suggest for the fall, your body loves routine. You're able to lose that weight. Any weight that you put on quickly will come off quickly. So it probably really nailed that routine. Now you want to really go internally into that trust place and really get really.
Starting point is 00:20:12 really in tune with your body and understanding where you're at and what you need. That's trusting when to eat. Am I actually hungry versus have I been triggered? Like, am I actually hungry at night? Could be that, you know, normally you eat dinner at five, but you went and played pickleball and, you know, did some gardening. And now, you know, you're still up at nine o'clock in which you're like, I'm hungry, you know, so you could actually be hungry. Or is it that you are, you know, is it something else? Like, oh, I didn't drink a lot of water. take. If I act, do I need to eat or do I just need to drink some water? Oh, I probably just need to drink some water. Right. And of course, when you're following the program, you could be extra hungry because your weight's about to drop. That's also a sign, right? So, or am I just, am I had a stressful day? Or maybe you're dealing with something that happened throughout the summer, right? So, so kind of what is it? So I would actually take some time and think about that a little bit. Like, was I just falling back into old habits, which is also totally cool. There was nothing wrong with It was summer.
Starting point is 00:21:13 Therefore, I had some extra drinks. I went out late and met friends for dinner. Like, it was just that, you know, summer tends to do that. And there's nothing wrong with that either, right? If in the moment you made that conscious choice, there's nothing wrong with that. Be like, yeah, no regrets. You know, I maybe, you know, I feel like I put on a few more pounds. Now's the time for me to, like, you know, help my body get back to feeling its best.
Starting point is 00:21:40 Right? So take a few minutes. take a few minutes so that that is the question right why though oh I know so that that's part of the journey that's part of the journeys like why do I why did that happen why do I do that that's part of the journey understanding how to lose weight also understanding why you gain weight why you gain weight or don't feel your best right like me if I you know am having a few drinks here and there look back into the chippies I'm just I'm not feeling great then I start to feel it and then I'm like okay Gina that's enough now now do I regret it
Starting point is 00:22:11 in the moment? Absolutely. Will I probably continue to do that? Absolutely. This is where I'm out. This is maintenance for me, right? Sometimes I'm making choices that don't make me feel so great, then I got to rein it in and get back to making choices that make me feel good again. While you are losing weight, it's no different. But a bit lax tree, that's okay. That's summer, right? That's all right. Hi, Nazine. After a few years in the Livy Method, I've been doing some reflecting on my journey. When I look at things from the bigger picture, wow, things have changed. I'm not the same. I'm not the same person when it comes to my health and self-care habits. Love it. It's also time, right? It takes time for us to make these changes in our lives, you know, because it's not just eat
Starting point is 00:22:58 less. It's just not starve yourself and lose weight. It's not just the lose weight part. You want to be able to do it in a way that actually makes you healthier, especially as you get older, and also in a way you can actually maintain and sustain. That's the, that's the big piece. That's big. So you're going to notice we're going to talk a lot more, especially about weight loss medications. So many people are taking weight loss medications and that's great. I love that that's available. The living method, I always have to say always work without weight loss medications. But if you are taking weight loss medications, it's not any easier, right? Because you still have to work through those issues and associations. You have to create habits,
Starting point is 00:23:35 you know, and work through old habits and create new ones, right? So that bigger picture, that's, that's, that's the work, you know. I work out consistently, drink more water. and I'm so much more mindful of what I eat that comes naturally. I also understand what it means just eating dissatisfaction. The bottom line for me is I'm so much more aware and I feel so much more in control of what happens to me. Perfect, not close,
Starting point is 00:23:59 but real and so much more than I was before. Yeah, so I don't like the words control and moderation. You're not trying to control yourself. You're not trying to moderate what you eat. You want to eat in tune to your body's needs. But like Nesdinja said, there's a lot you there's a lot of control in that you feel in control of the choices that you are making right and that's just that self-awareness that's like that next level of self-awareness really at the end of the day
Starting point is 00:24:28 um enjoyed my summer including indulgences with friends and family still managed to lose almost eight pounds my body is prime to lose looking for the fall session yeah you did I love this I love this I this good for you that's that you absolutely can you absolutely can enjoy the summer and still focus on your weight loss goals hi Kathy this summer I've taken the opportunity to add flexibility into my routine love it I have still lost weight however slower than I did following the plan exactly right this has really helped me to tune in to how I feel and catch when I need to implement back on track and it's been a great it's been a great some this I you know I love hearing this. And because this is a win-win situation. If you're like, Gina, oh, I gained a ton of weight back,
Starting point is 00:25:22 but I enjoyed my summer. That's a win, right? Because you now learned how to gain weight back. So now you know how not to gain weight back. Right. And this is what this is like, this is that it's an ebb and flow. You're not going to lose your weight, stay at one goal, stay at one weight range. And that's it. Your weight is going to fluctuate in your life. You are going to have moments where you kind of are making choices that kind of make your weight go up, but you will also know how to make your weight go right back down. Or you will know when your weight is starting to go back up and you're like, nope, let me get back on track. That's what this is. That's what this is, right? It's never like you get there and then like you just stay there. So I lost over 100 pounds 30
Starting point is 00:26:06 something, 30 years ago, right? There's been times in my life where I'm on the lower end, like your set point is a range, right? It's that like 10 pounds. There's a low range. There's a high range. And so right now you're looking to see your lowest low, right? But then when you're maintaining your weight, it's a range. It's like a 10 pound. It's really a 3 to 7 pounds, but give or take, 10 pound range, right? And so there's times where I was easier on easy, easily, easier on my lower end, right? Just live in life. I wasn't thinking about it, wasn't trying to stay there. I was like, maybe whatever I had going on in my job. I was happy and I had time to work out, work life balance, whatever that was on the lower end. And then there are times on the higher end.
Starting point is 00:26:53 There are also times where I was very happy on the higher end too. I remember when I first started dating Tony and my husband, I was happy. But I was also drinking and eating and whatever and life was amazing. And so like I gained weight back because I was happy and really didn't give a like maybe I wasn't spending as much time at the gym because I was, you know, so that's not to say that your weight goes up in bad times and down in good times. That's not necessarily, sometimes it's quite opposite. But depending on what's going on, so you could be going along fine. I was going along fine. Hormones, menopause, weight went way, way, way, way up, right? Then combined stress with that way up, way up. So then I had to be like, okay, what's going on? And then I had to work to get that weight back
Starting point is 00:27:38 down. The thing is here, you're not just losing by eating less, right? You are, you are losing in a way where you're understanding, you're working through issues and associations, your relationship with food, understanding about yourself. So this is what we mean by it's so important to acquire those tools and skills to understand. Also, rewire how your body's come to function physically and rewire your brain. So your weight is going to constantly fluctuate for the rest of your life, but it's about being very clear about how to balance that out. And that's what, that's, that's why summer is a win-win situation, you know. I can't seem to motivate myself or I don't know where to start with the gym situation. Working out from home doesn't work for me anymore.
Starting point is 00:28:23 So I'm going to do my, I'm going to do my, I'm going to start out my series. I'm going to do a whole beginner workout series. 7.30 throughout the program, I think Monday through Thursday, maybe Monday, Wednesday, Friday, but I think Monday through Thursday. And it's going to be super beginner and super basic and just moving our bodies, right, for 20 minutes at 7.30. And that's creating that routine at home. And so here's where I'm going at home. If you can work out at home, I find that motivates me to go to the gym. But do you want to go to the gym?
Starting point is 00:28:57 Is that your thing? Are you making it a non-negotiable to go to the gym? right so when you want to make sure you're joining the right gym maybe you don't have a lot of options understand what you're going to do at the gym i if you can get yourself a personal trainer if you're a little lost at the gym it can be a great idea to get a personal trainer to kind of show you the ropes um to do a basic program for you if you have the money and the finances to invest in that if not there's all sorts of great youtube videos out there as well um but classes can be really great and i find a lot of times people won't
Starting point is 00:29:31 go to a class and I taught aerobics 30 years. A lot of times people will be like, oh, I want to do your class but I'm not ready yet. I'm like, you're always ready. You're always ready to do one of my classes because you can stand at the back and do the movements that feel good to you and just like take breaks whenever you need. So a lot of times people won't do a class because, oh, that class is not for me or I can't do all of those moves or I don't know that I'm ready yet when a good instructor will welcome you and is just happy to have a body in the room. Trust me, I'm just happy to have you there. And so you want to be like, how am I going to utilize?
Starting point is 00:30:08 What's my plan? The other thing that I would do is like set yourself up for success for the gym. Like when am I going to go? And I wouldn't say for an hour. Like I'm going to go to the gym and mark it off in your calendar. This is the time that I'm going to the gym. You're going to go whether you feel like it or not because it's not the workout. It's going to the gym.
Starting point is 00:30:29 That's the thing. I don't care if you go and you just walk around and you leave after 10 minutes. You're going to feel like a rock star because you went to the gym. So the first thing isn't the workout. That's the mistake that people make when it comes to going to the gym. It's not the workout that you do. It's getting there. It's creating the habit of going there. Right. And so that's why maybe you go to the gym and the first thing you do, you just go on the treadmill for 20 minutes and then you get out of there. right and then you're getting into the habit of going to the gym you feel great and then you can build on that routine then you can add some weights then you can go to a class because i find that when people the lot of the reason why they don't go to the gym is the pressure that they're putting on themselves i don't feel like doing the workout today i don't have an hour to do the workout today when in reality it's really just creating the get up and go once you're in their routine and get up and go you're more likely to continue that because you're going to feel you're going to feel you're feel really great. You're going to feel really great, right? So, so sometimes motivation, it's like you're, you're not, you're not always going to be motivated, you know, but what you, what I find doesn't help is when you're putting that extra pressure on yourself. So I'm right there
Starting point is 00:31:41 with you. So Tony and I have committed to getting really healthy this year. We didn't get to play a lot of golf. We finally went out, made it out for golf yesterday and on Saturday. Of course, we're so sore. So we went and played pickleball. right so I'm adding pickleball so you guys saw that so what can I do to be I really want to I cannot have another year go by where I'm constantly thinking about um getting in more shape what I want my trip to Europe my mom came and mom is 73 years old kicked our assets my mom kicked our assets she was like way up ahead walking she could go for days honestly she was in everybody on the trip she was probably in the best shape. And so I just don't want to go another year. Same thing with Tony. We have some,
Starting point is 00:32:29 he has some unhealthy habits. We both do. And we were going to make it a non-negotiable. We're going to go to the gym. And I'm excited about it. So what, so here's my thing for you. I'm excited about it. I want this. I know there's going to be days where I'm not going to feel like it, but I'm excited at that thought of the feeling of being in shape. I remember what that felt like. I felt amazing. So kind of like focus on the end result, right? What do you? close your eyes like what do you think going to the gym is going to do for you how are you going to feel and if you can get excited about that find that excitement that might help when it comes to motivated is like signed up for the gym i want to lose weight i want to be healthy i don't really need
Starting point is 00:33:11 any feeling for that i'm motivated to get in shape and and and be healthy so i'm going to sign up so i was motivated to sign up for the gem but then motivated to continue to go not the same motivation, right? It's not the same motive. It's not like the same, I don't know why I'm doing this, but it's not the same motivation for me. So then that's where you have to make it like, so what is my motivation? My motivation is I want to feel how I know I can feel, right? And then what are my blockers? Too much stress, committing to too long, you know, just kind of like working it out in your mind a little bit. Me too. Time to get back on track, right? If you go to go to the gym with a friend, yes, do anything with a friend. Me for walks, go to the gym. Yeah, game changer. There's so many
Starting point is 00:34:02 different types of gyms. You've got to find one that suit you. I prefer small groups and trainers that are watching. There's some really great gyms out there, right? Some are built around incredible classes. Some are built around more personal training. Some are more wide open. Also the time of gym. Time you go to the gym, right? So you might be a person who likes the gym at 3 o'clock in the afternoon when it's not really busy. So giving some thought, I think maybe we've oversimplified, just go to the gym when there's actually a lot of thought to getting in shape and not only signing up for the gym, but continuing to go to the gym. Andrew Blakey has a good, Andrew Blakey has a great, Andrew Blakey, we've had him on. He has a great, it's an at-home program, so not in the gym, but he's got a great program
Starting point is 00:34:50 as well. Enterblake is a good saying to help with motivation. Commit to doing five minutes of whatever movement workout you want to do and you will find that starting is 95% and you will likely continue. Yeah. And ensure that and ensure you don't go more than 48 hours without moving. So I always had the 10 minute rule, right? 10 minutes. Move your body for 10 minutes. They used to say this to my clients. 10 minutes. Go for a walk for 10 minutes. Do something for 10 minutes. Nine times out of 10, you will want to do more. You will just want to do more. It's just getting started. Like, when have you ever gone for a walk and been like, oh, that was such a bad idea? That's never, right? What if you ever got in the gym or done a workout where you're like, that was such a bad idea?
Starting point is 00:35:35 Now, maybe there was a time, right? Like, last week I wasn't feeling so hot. And I went out and I went out golfing with Tony. He's like, come on, go and I didn't feel it. And then I ended up getting a migraine. and that wasn't great. Did I regret the golf? No, because up until that point, I had a great time, but I wasn't feeling so hot. So I probably could have skipped at that time, but if I would have skipped it, I probably would have lied there with a regret thinking, oh my God, what's wrong with me? Why didn't I go? So 10 minutes, 10 minutes, 10 minutes, it's a great role. My commitment to myself is also getting back in a shape. I need to find something that I can do taking into consideration my physical limitations. I used to be so fit, then I had a bad fall that changed everything.
Starting point is 00:36:17 I miss being able to do what I miss being able to, but I'm excited about finding something that just keeps me motivated and grooving. Yes. So my workout series that I'm going to do is keeping in mind limitations with mobility. It is going to be so basic. It's really going to be mobility, get your body moving class. So it's going to be super, super basic. If you want to join me, I'm going to do it in the morning.
Starting point is 00:36:43 7.30 am. And then of course, if you're following the program, we're going to keep them stored in the guides. So then you can do them at any time. There are just going to be about basic movement. We are going to do some strength training. We're going to do flexibility. But I find there's so much out there for people who are already in decent shape or are fully capable and able to do all the moves. And not much for people who have mobility issues. So it's going to be super, super beginner. It's going to be great for anybody. Anybody can, of course, join. in and follow along, but I'm going to make sure I keep it super basic. And it will build. So we're going to start super simple. And of course, we're going to build on the things that we are doing.
Starting point is 00:37:23 All right. Good morning. So our community. Hi, Paulette. Hello. Hello. Hello. All right, you guys. That was fun. Oh, gosh. It's so good to be back. So we got some great guests this week. You might have noticed we're adding some more guests to the conversation. Just kind of expanding that conversation and our knowledge base. We've got some great guest joining us tomorrow. We're going to talk about Capri is going to join us. She's a TV and radio host, but she's also a massive foodie. She has a show in the U.S. and also a show here in Canada and has a big love of studying the culture behind food. So that's not something we really talk a lot about here in the program.
Starting point is 00:37:57 And food can be a big part of your culture, right? So how can you honor your culture and the foods that you enjoy and love the same time, make the changes that you need to make and create a new relationship with foods? That's going to be a really interesting conversation. I'm looking forward to that. So if you want to join me then, otherwise I'll be checking in all week. So I'll see you then. If you want to grab a copy of my book, LiveLiter, it's on sale 30% off.
Starting point is 00:38:23 So Indigo, not that I want to sell my book, but of course it's beautiful. And I want you to have it. And I also want you to save money on it. We do have a Living Method membership code, but ours is only 20%. And the book is on sale for 30% off this week. So if you go to Indigo, check that out. You haven't signed it for a fall program yet. What are you waiting for?
Starting point is 00:38:43 Get signed up. Please, sure, we're going to start letting people know that we are doing a fall. We just have not been, we've been enjoying the summer and not really promoting it much. But we are doing our fall program. It's going to start on September 14th. So we're going to be sharing more information about that. Have a fantastic day, everyone. Go out, move your body.
Starting point is 00:39:00 See, even if you do a little stretch. Hopefully that motivated you. I know it motivated me. Have a great day, everyone. I'll see you later. Bye.
