Hi, we're the Misery Machine. I'm Yergy. And I'm Drewby, and we have some breaking news.
A group of three judges on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday to reinstate an execution date for Lisa Montgomery.
She's currently the only woman on federal death row. Yes, she's now scheduled for January 12th, which is just a week or so before Joe Biden is scheduled to be inaugurated.
And he's about to do away with the federal death penalty.
So before we get into it, please hit like and subscribe so we can keep.
bring you videos like this.
So her execution was originally set for December 8th.
However, her attorneys came down with COVID-19, so it had to be rescheduled.
Montgomery's attorney said she disagrees with the decision, and she's going to appeal to President Trump to commute her death sentence to life without the possibility of parole.
So the Trump administration has overseen 10 federal executions, which is more in a single year than we've seen in decades.
And Montgomery would be the first woman executed since 1953.
So only three women have been executed on the federal level.
So there was Mary Surrett in 1865.
She was hung for conspiracy to assassinate Abraham Lincoln.
Then there was Bobby Brown-Heddy.
She was executed in 1953 for kidnapping and murder charges.
So probably the most famous was Ethel Rosenberg.
And that happened in the same year.
And she was executed due to espionage.
So what happened for Montgomery to warrant a death sentence?
So in 2004, Montgomery, who was age 36 at the time, was convicted of strangling Bobby Joe Stinnett,
who was a pregnant 23-year-old woman.
Montgomery had strangled Stinnett from behind and removed her unborn child from her with a kitchen knife.
The child was kidnapped, but thankfully survived as she was eight months in utero at the time.
She was recovered by authorities and now lives with her first.
father. So there's a lot of speculation as the motives for the crime that Montgomery committed.
Some folks speculate a miscarriage that she hid from her family. However, it is said that she
underwent tubal litigation in 1990 and that she had been lying to a lot of people about whether
or not she was pregnant from time to time. So we're going to keep opinions out of this one.
We're going to do a full episode on this eventually and we want to do more thorough research
before stating our opinions on these things. But some people don't feel that Montgomery is
responsible for her actions. And this is due to the extensive trauma and abuse she suffered from
her stepfather growing up, as well as two ex-husbands. Experts have also stated that Lisa Montgomery
suffers from PTSD, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder. So does Lisa Montgomery
deserve the death penalty, or should her sentence be commuted to life in prison? Let us know
what you think in the comment section. And be sure to hit like and subscribe so we can
