Starting point is 00:00:00 So we just wanted to give you a breaking news update. Some new details have emerged with the Jessica Lurvey and Matthew Schofield case. You might remember us covering their case back on November 5th. Yeah, it involved two people who were in a relationship who had their bodies found in separate transfer stations, one in New Hampshire and one here in Lewiston, Maine. And the couple themselves were from New Hampshire. So it definitely seemed very suspicious despite law enforcement from both states claiming that it wasn't suspicious at all. So these are the details that we currently have.
Starting point is 00:00:35 So the New Hampshire Attorney General's office feel as if the couple went into the trash bin, intoxicated on drugs and sought shelter during a rainstorm. Later, the bin was loaded into a compacting waste removal vehicle, and that's where everything went awry. The official statement is that Jessica was crushed by the trash compactor while intoxicated on fentanyl. This is according to Mitchell Weinberg, deputy medical examiner, and ultimately ruled the death as accidental. However, Matthew's body, which wasn't found in New Hampshire, was found here in Lewiston, Maine. The main office of the chief medical examiner said the cause of the death is undetermined, believing his death to either be acute intoxication by more than one drug or crush a medical examiner. injuries. I'm not sure how the medical examiner's office in different states would come to
Starting point is 00:01:30 different conclusions here, but this is unfortunately what it is. And it's very sad as well, because from what we understand, the family wasn't notified about this. This went to the press first. Yeah, now Jessica's sister made a post stating how, I love how official and state police can tell media things they haven't even told families yet or even mentioned about way to serve and protect and bring justice what a joke and i have to feel for the family this came out just a couple of hours ago and they didn't even bother to tell the family the family should be the first people you tell and they should be given time before the media is informed in most cases they should be given time to grieve so we covered a case a little while ago with a jane doe and the family was given months to
Starting point is 00:02:20 grieve in process before the press had the information. And I believe that was Walker County, Jane Doe, and they hadn't seen their daughter in decades, and they were given that long to grieve. In something like this with Jessica and Matthew, it's so recent, and there were so many rumors about foul play and things of that nature that when the cause of deaths are finally released, you would think you would give the family some time here before telling the public. The whole situation just also rips the lid off a whole bunch of other questions, though, as well. So why were they in the bin? Were they reported homeless? So from what we read last time and what
Starting point is 00:03:04 people have told us that knew them, nobody thought that they were homeless. I don't think they were. Based on their social media, they appear to have a home. And while it's not impossible that a couple together would go into a dumpster to use, that is something more commonly done. by people who are homeless. And if the New Hampshire Medical Examiner is correct that they did fentanyl in the dumpster and passed out and the dumpster was picked up, I'm just having a hard time understanding why something like this would be done outside of your home. Again, not out of the realm of possibility, but it doesn't seem likely when you have a place where you live, especially since they were living together from my understanding.
Starting point is 00:03:49 I mean, there's a lot of other different places you can go during a rainstorm. And my biggest question is, how on earth would the New Hampshire Attorney General's office even know this? I think this is a big assumption, unless there's other parties involved that have information that haven't come forward that they're not naming. Yeah, I'm having a hard time understanding how they would know that they were collected in a dumpster. That's a pretty big assumption without any sort of surveillance. If they have surveillance that shows them getting to a dumpster, then I could completely understand why they would come to that conclusion. But barring that and barring witness testimony,
Starting point is 00:04:29 I just don't understand how they can safely come to that conclusion. One thing that I'm not familiar with is I don't work in waste management or a transfer station or anything like that. When the dumpsters are collected, if they are checked first by the attendees in the ground, garbage truck before putting it into the truck. My guess is no, based on seeing the trash trucks come at our old apartment complex, they just pick it up that no one even gets out of the truck. There's these little hooks that pick the dumpster up and dump it into the back of the truck and then the
Starting point is 00:05:04 compactor closes. So my guess is that this is legitimate and this is what really happens, no one would have known until they went to sorting, but it still doesn't explain how Jessica was found in sorting and how Matthew ended up in Maine. Again, this is not a industry that I work in or am familiar with, so I look to you guys, listeners, anyone that has experience with this to try to fill us in, but you would think they would both be discovered in sorting. If this happened accidentally,
Starting point is 00:05:32 and they were unfortunately collected through a dumpster that they fell asleep in, how would they not be discovered during sorting? And I just still don't understand how he gets to Maine. We've had other people comment that did work in waste management stating that it isn't uncommon for waste transfer to ship their garbage to other states, especially if it's under the umbrella of the same company. In this case, Cassella waste management owns all of it. So I don't find that too suspicious. It just seems odd. I don't know why it works like that. It just seems odd because there's a lot of different metropolitan areas between Belmont and Lewiston, Maine. There are. The sending a trash to another state isn't really something that sets off a red flag to me as much as the statement that they are confident that they got into a dumpster while using and fell asleep. I think that's the biggest stretch and I'd really like to see some justification on this. And it really upsets me in a way that the police, in my own personal feeling, are being so rash and quick to just justify this as a freak accident.
Starting point is 00:06:43 And I feel a lot of their justification for that is because these folks are addicts. And I feel a lot of times that folks who are addicted to substances don't get the proper respect that they reserve or the thoroughness of investigation. Or the proper resources. Now, we don't know the thoroughness of the police investigation, but we should comment on what the trend usually is with people who have addiction problems. And even in our own comment section, there were people who were dismissive of Jessica and Matthew, and it just isn't fair. People deserve justice. And when you're paying your tax dollars to support law enforcement, you would hope that you would get just as much resources and just as much thoroughness as anyone else would in a case like this where answers aren't as clear. I mean, just think if this is your brother or sister or child.
Starting point is 00:07:38 Exactly. But at the end of the day, as far as the Attorney General's office is concerned, this case is shut, and this is what it is. Let me know what you guys think about this in the comment section below. And I do feel if the family does feel that foul play was involved or friends or loved ones, there are resources for you out there to push your cases. And I should say that we have had contact with the family trying to get any sort of statement or more information on who, Matthew and Jessica were they don't really want to talk with us. And that's their right. I respect that.
Starting point is 00:08:15 But just know that if we've said anything that is inaccurate, we are more than happy to do an addendum, either in the show notes or a pin post on YouTube. Because at the end of the day, we want to be accurate about this. And we're here for you. That's our main goal with this show. Yes, 100%. But until Monday, we love you. We love you.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Bye bye.
