from previous relationships. But this was never a stable home to begin with. Even before Emmanuel's
birth, his father had a documented history involving suspected CA and neglect. Court records show that
in 2018, Jake and his then-wife Vanessa were charged with child cruelty involving their 10-week-old
daughter, whom we will refer to as baby C. The baby suffered multiple serious injuries,
including a skull fracture, brain hemorrhage, and broken ribs. Jake claimed he dropped the baby
while washing her in the sink butt. The medical findings told a very different story.
Baby C was immediately taken to the hospital where, although the doctors managed to save her,
the damage she endured was catastrophic and permanent.
There were clear signs of long-term neglect and nutritional negligence.
According to the medical report, her injuries included an acute fracture of the posterior
left rib, healing fractures of the lateral sixth, seventh, and tenth through 12th ribs,
healing fractures of the sixth and ninth through 12th ribs, a partial fracture of the skull,
a brain hemorrhage, significant prevertebral softness.
tissue swelling of the neck and a healing tibia fracture in the right leg. According to court documents,
a doctor who treated the baby reported her condition could have been fatal if medical attention
was not sought. Babacy suffered from cerebral palsy, a group of lifelong neurological disorders
caused by abnormal brain development or traumatic injury to the brain. It affects a person's
movement, balance, and posture, and often comes with additional challenges such as difficult
with learning, vision, or hearing.
For Bay B.C., these disabilities were the direct result of the violence inflicted upon her in the first weeks of her life.
Riverside County District Attorney Michael Hestron later spoke publicly about the case, stating,
we believed it was a prison case and that Jake Harrow should have gone to prison.
But unfortunately, he never did.
It's definitely a major flaw in our legal system that the man responsible for ruining a child's entire life,
was allowed to walk free with no major consequences.
Jake's legal proceedings weren't delayed,
and he wasn't convicted until June of 2023.
Even then, the outcome was shockingly lenient.
At first, Jake tried to blame the incident on his partner, Vanessa.
But when that didn't work, he accepted a plea deal with prosecutors
and admitted guilt to one count of willful child neglect involving BBC.
What could have been a strong felony case was reduced to a single, comparatively mild child.
According to D.A. Hestrin, the prosecution urged the judge to give Jake a prison sentence,
but the judge believed that, and I quote, Mr. Harrow deserved an extra break.
Instead of sending him to prison, the judge suspended his six-year sentence and ordered him
to complete six months in a work release program, followed by four years of probation.
Jake was also required to attend a CA treatment program.
The prosecution was far from satisfied with this outcome.
The A. Hestron expressed that decision was absolutely outrageous.
But Jake later tried to gaslight the entire incident insisting that he was the real victim.
He claimed, I pled guilty because I didn't have the money to go to trial.
The judge said nobody would believe my side of the story.
Somehow, they magically convinced me to take this damn plea deal.
I was sick of court.
The judge knows I didn't do it.
They just railroaded me.
I was the fall guy.
In July of 2024, while Jake was still on probation, he was arrested again, this time on suspicion of a legal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He walked out a month later in August of 2024 after posting a $10,000 bail, but the decision to let him walk freely would have devastating consequences.
Within months, Jake would find himself at the center of yet another tragedy, this time involving his own seven-month-old son Emmanuel with his new.
wife, Rebecca. On Thursday, August 14th, 2025, Rebecca reported that she had driven with her husband
and four of their children and stepchildren from their home in Cabazon to the athletic field on
7th Street, where her stepson was supposed to compete in a summer football scrimmage in Yucaypa.
Before the match began, she drove a few blocks at the Big Five sporting goods store to buy her
stepson a mouthguard. After making the purchase, Rebecca returned to the vehicle in part in the shared
parking lot of the now shuttered big lots in Big Five retail stores.
She said she needed to change Emmanuel's diaper, so she placed him on the backseat of the
passenger side of the vehicle.
According to Rebecca, this is when a man allegedly approached her, greeted her with
Ola, and then knocked her unconscious.
When she regained consciousness, she claimed that the man had taken Baby Emanuel and
disappeared.
Rebecca later recalled, I fell on the floor, and I said, as I got up, I couldn't find my son.
I checked all around my truck, and I ran into Big Five, and I asked the lady if she saw a baby or someone with a baby.
She said no.
Rebecca described the alleged sound as a...

Heavy-set man who approached her moments before she lost consciousness.
She claimed the man grabbed a manual and fled the scene in a white Toyota forerunner.
Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department promptly responded to the parking
lot and began treating it as a crime scene.
A sheriff's helicopter was deployed to search the surrounding area, but no suspect vehicle
or potential leads were located.
Deputies taped off the area around Rebecca's truck, and investigators began interviewing
anyone who might have witnessed the incident.
No one reported seeing a struggle, a fleeing suspect, or a vehicle speeding away.
deputies and K-9 units from both San Bernardino and Riverside counties arrived at 747 p.m. on August 14th,
but despite an extensive ground and aerial search, no trace of Emanuel was found.
Perhaps that's because the alleged kidnapping or assault never happened.
Moreover, an Amber Alert was never issued for Emanuel.
According to the Sheriff's Department, the case did not meet the criteria as there was no confirmed suspect,
no verified vehicle description, and no evidence of a stranger abduction.
Regardless, the case gained widespread media attention.
Rebecca and Jake appeared on news stations, handed out missing posters on the street, and pled with the public for help.
Rebecca appeared in the news with a bruised right eye, which she claimed she got from the man.
She told the reporter, with a gasping voice, I'm begging you, if you know anything, please, I'm begging you to bring him back.
Local newspapers also published a physical description of Emmanuel.
He weighed about 21 pounds, was 24 inches tall, had brown air,
brown eyes and crossed eyes. They reported that he was last seen wearing a black Nike onesie.
It's just a baby. Just to give her some back, please. A desperate plea from the parents of seven
month old Emmanuel now missing for more than 24 hours. He was wearing a black onesie with a Nike
swish on him. That's what Rebecca Harrow says her baby was last wearing when she says someone
snatched him out of her pickup in his parking lot in front of Big Five off Yucypa Boulevard.
in Yucaypa. I was going to get the diaper and somebody said,
Ola, and I don't, I didn't see nothing since. Harrow says the bruise below her
eyes from someone punching her out as she began to change her son in the back seat of her
pickup. I woke up right here on the floor and I didn't see him manual. She says she looked
around her vehicle and then ran into the store searching for her son and called 911.
The assault happened so fast. Harrow says she wasn't able to give investigators a description of who hit her.
Everybody came the dogs.
Hello, Cuthers.
The couple living Cabazon, but say they were in Yucaypa because their older son had football practice at a nearby park.
And Harrow says she drove to Big Five Thursday night to buy him a mouth guard.
Mary Housen is Emanuel's grandmother.
They're not going to hurt that maybe those, that couple were just home buddies.
She says investigators have questioned the couple twice.
She can't handle it anymore.
You know, she's been without her baby since yesterday.
since yesterday afternoon. If you have my grandson, please give it to his mom. She's going crazy.
Please have mercy on her. Some people believe the story. However, there were those who found Rebecca's
interview insincere. It appeared as if she were gasping for breath and trying to force tears
that weren't actually there. For a mother who had supposedly just lost her infant,
many viewers described her behavior as crocodile tears. Still, the community left no stone unturned in
trying to locate Emanuel as quickly as possible.
Yuvaldi Foundation for Kids, which provides assistance to find missing and endangered youth
nationwide, announced on August 17th a $5,000 reward for information about Emmanuel's
disappearance.
But just days later, investigators would turn to the conclusion that Rebecca's claims were
actually fabricated.
There was no security footage in the area where Emmanuel disappeared.
The white vehicle she described was never seen in the area, and no witnesses reported in
countering the supposed Ola man.
Less than a week after Emmanuel was reported missing,
investigators began pressing Rebecca about the inconsistencies in her statements.
When confronted, she became defensive and eventually refused to cooperate any further.
At that point, authorities felt they had enough grounds to seriously suspect that both Rebecca
and Jake were involved in Emmanuel's disappearance.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department also reported that multiple interviews were conducted
and that during those interviews, Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial
statement and declined to continue with the interview.
According to the police statement, the investigators could not rule out foul play in the
disappearance of Baby Emanuel.
The Uvalde Foundation for Kids also raised concerns over the couple's sudden silence.
Daniel Chapin, founder and director of the Yuvalde Foundation for Kids, reported,
something is not right in this whole picture.
We hope law enforcement will continue to pursue.
the case so that this precious child may be found and placed in a safe environment.
At the same time that Emmanuel's parents were refusing to cooperate with investigators,
complete strangers like those at the Ovalde Foundation were desperately trying to find him.
On August 19th, the Foundation shared another public call urging the community and the parents
to join the search for the missing boy. It read, join the search and you will be protected.
You can change the trajectory of this case and if there is nothing to hide,
come forward and the foundation and community will support you as never imagined.
There was also an interview with Jake in which he talked about baby Emmanuel in the past tense,
which led the authorities to believe that the primary suspect behind Emmanuel's disappearance
was none other than his father, Jake Harrow.
On Friday, August 22nd, Jake and Rebecca were taken into custody on suspicion of murder at their home in Cabazon,
roughly 90 miles east of Los Angeles.
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department announced their arrest on an ex post, portions of which read,
During the investigation thus far, numerous interviews have been conducted, search warrants have been served,
digital and electronic evidence has been collected and closely analyzed.
Based on the evidence, investigators determined a kidnapping in Yucaypa did not occur.
It is believed that Emmanuel is deceased, and the search to recover his remains is ongoing.
The couple was booked into the Riverside County Jail without bail on suspicion of murder,
and for filing a false police report. Jake later claimed that he wanted to help authorities
find his son but was told not to talk with the police. It was a vague and unconvincing explanation.
If a father genuinely had information that could lead to his missing son, nothing would stop him from sharing it, unless he was the one involved.
Two days later, deputies were alerted to a field in Moreno Valley. They brought Jake with them as they searched the area.
It's unclear whether Jake was attempting to strike an informal deal.
with investigators, perhaps hoping for a lighter sentence in exchange for leading them to
Emmanuel's remains, or maybe investigators got cell phone records of some remote locations that Jake
visited, which led them to the field. Video footage from the scene, Jake could be seen standing
almost motionless in an orange jail jumpsuit, offering no assistance whatsoever as officers
searched the area around him. Despite this, roughly 40 to 50 deputies combed the westbound
shoulder of the 60 freeway near Gilman Springs Road in Moreno Valley for hours,
by cadaver dogs.
Tragically, the search yielded nothing.
Sometime later, there were some reports suggesting that Emmanuel may have died as early as August 5th,
a full nine days before Rebecca claimed her baby had been kidnapped.
Without a body and an autopsy report, that can never be confirmed.
According to other unconfirmed reports,
Jake also confessed during what's known as a Perkins operation,
a law enforcement tactic in which investigators place an undercover officer or informant
inside a jail cell to elicit unguarded statements from a suspect.
Allegedly, Jake admitted he had accidentally rolled over a manual while sleeping,
suffocating him to death.
Panicked and overwhelmed, he hid the body in a trash bin and later buried it somewhere
so he could visit the grave, but he would never reveal the location to anybody.
District Attorney Michael Hestran later addressed this version of events during a press conference
where he discussed the case in detail and responded to a series of questions from reporters.
I'll start here on the frontway. Yes, ma'am.
Hi, Stephanie with Zunan. My question is, first of all, do you have any idea of where Baby Emanuel is at this point?
You know, yes, we have a pretty strong indication of where the remains of Baby Emanuel are.
So that's that investigation is ongoing at this time.
Yes, go ahead.
Now, Johnson Court TV, what was the information that led to the initial search off the 60 in Marino Valley?
Sheriff, you want to take that?
I'm not going to go into great detail about that,
but there is some level of cooperation with the suspects involved in this,
and we're trying to locate that, and our job is to follow every lead.
Before the rest of the room here, we have to understand what you're dealing with
is an experienced child of a user that is aware of a previous case,
that is aware of evidentiary things that we are certainly concerned with.
So we're going to take every step to not only work with any,
suspect or witness involved in this because at the end of the day we have to bring a case
to Mike and they have to charge it and we have to make sure that every single thing no matter
what is told to us or what we discover in terms of evidence is the right thing and that
we followed up extensively.
Okay, who's next?
I'll go to you first and then, go ahead.
G.G. Ross, you at with Fox 11 News.
Do you believe you know how baby Emmanuel died or was killed and is there anything you can share?
The filing in this case reflects our belief that Baby Manuel was a victim of child abuse over time,
and that eventually because of that he succumbed to those injuries.
That's what we believe.
I looked at Sandro, do you believe that he has been responding the way he is in video that does have the eye, I guess,
lazy eye for a lot in better words?
Do you believe that he was shaken before and asked the reason?
You know, I'm not going to, I can't speculate.
I'll say, I'll repeat what I already said.
We believe that Emmanuel was severely abused over a period of time,
and that that's what will, that's the reason for the filing,
the way it was, is that he was abused over a period of time.
Both parents would have been aware of that.
It's worth hearing some reports of a confession made in jail regarding, is there any validity to some of those rumors?
And what have you heard from the fact that in jail?
I can tell you that there's, that's not true.
It's, there's no, there's no confession made in jail.
Journalist Brian Enton, however, continued to stand by the circulating rumors.
For time, but it's also interesting, Ashley, that at that press conference, the DA was specifically asked,
did you get a confession out of Jake Caro?
And he said no.
And he almost seemed mad about it
that they were asked about it.
And he said no, which would conflict you would think
with my reporting.
And I just want to tell you,
I've double, triple, quadruple checked.
I stand by my reporting.
I think we're down to semantics here.
And you know, in the legal world,
a confession, you know, there's a very, very strict definition of that.
And I don't know what the DA's definition of confession.
is when it comes to what he would want it to be in a court of law. But I stand by in my reporting
when it comes to the Perkins operation and what resulted from that operation, Ashley.
Despite the grisly discoveries and the mounting evidence contradicting their claims,
both parents remained unnervingly committed to their story. During a jailhouse interview
from the Robert Presley Detention Center, Rebecca insisted that she should be out searching
for her baby. She said in the interview, I will not give up on
my baby. She continued to cling to her original story, even though detectives had long deemed it
completely fabricated. When asked about her husband, Jake, and whether he might have played a role in
Emmanuel's disappearance, Rebecca immediately defended him saying, he's a good dad. He'd never
hurt a baby. Jake, who is now being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility, also chose to
stand by his wife. He insisted, Rebecca is innocent. The media is killing her. She is a beautiful,
beautiful woman. She loves her children. He addressed the tidal wave of criticism aimed at the horrors across social
media. God is with us. The allegations are horrendous, so of course people are going to be riled up.
Jake believed that his previous child negligence case had unfairly tainted public perception
and was now influencing the investigation into Emmanuel's disappearance. When the interviewer pressed
him on what he would say to Emmanuel if he were to ever be found, Jake replied, I love you,
Some reporters also visited the couple's home where the entire property had been taped off by law enforcement.
Their two-year-old daughter had already been taking into the care of child protective services.
When reporters spoke with nearby residents, most said they didn't know the horrors at all.
One woman claimed she had seen Rebecca, but only once in the past four years.
The couple's initial court hearing took place on August 26, 2025, where they were each charged with murder and filing a false police report.
Jake and Rebecca were in the courtroom for less than five minutes total.
Their bail was set to $1 million each.
On September 4th, 2025, they reappeared in court and entered not guilty pleas.
But by October 16th, something changed, at least for Jake.
In the courtroom, he broke down and pled guilty to second-degree murder,
child assault causing death, filing a false report.
...use, great-file injury, resulting in the death of set child.
Harrow entered his pleas directly to the court without an inquiry.
involvement from the Riverside County District Attorney's Office, meaning the DA was not involved in any plea deal with Harrow.
The DA's office releasing a statement that reads in part, because there is still active criminal proceedings involving Rebecca Harrow, the District Attorney's Office will make no additional comments regarding the case or the guilty plea of Jake Harrow.
Jake's sentencing took place on October 16, 2025, where Rebecca's mother, Mary, was also present in the courtroom.
She delivered a heartbreaking and emotional statement about the loss and the devastation that had fallen upon their family.
She repeatedly demanded that Jake look her directly in the eyes as she spoke.
I wanted Jake to face me, to look at me, because I told him that I would be here for his sentences before he was arrested.

On social media, everywhere.
And that is not my doing or my children.
This has been horrible for us.
Mary continued by expressing how the entire system had failed her family.
She said she wished the judge who had once given Jake a big break was present in that courtroom,
along with the social services workers who had been involved in their case.
She shared her frustration that someone would still try to give Jake another chance
after he never gave his own children a single chance.
District Attorney Hestron also shared a similar opinion.
as he said in the earlier press conference about the 10-week-old baby case,
if that judge had done his job, as he should have done,
Emmanuel would be alive today.
Jake was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison by Judge Gary Polk at the Riverside Hall of Justice,
who's convicted of one count of murder, one count of assault on a child under eight causing death,
and one count of filing a false police report.
Court also determined that CA resulting in death was the principal offense.
For the false police report alone, Jake received an additional 180 days.
Moreover, the legal system moved to correct its earlier failures from Jake's 2018 CA case.
For destroying the life of a 10-week-old infant, the court imposed an additional six-year term,
along with eight more months for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
All sentences were ordered to run consecutively.
A $10,000 restitution fine was also imposed, though Jake was credited with
551 days of time served.
D. A. Hestrin commented on the sentencing by saying,
The lies told in this case only deepen the tragedy of Emmanuel's death.
While today's sentence represents a measure of accountability for Jake Harrow,
our office will continue to seek justice as the case against his co-defendant moves forward.
His wife Rebecca has continued to plead not guilty to the murder and disappearance of her son.
Her legal proceedings remain ongoing and her next court hearing is scheduled for January 21st,
And, tragically, as of the most recent updates, maybe Emmanuel's remains have still not been found.
And while the lead suspect is already behind bars, the lives Jake has damage can never be restored.
His daughter with his former wife, Vanessa, is still alive, but she's not doing very good.
She's now seven years old and, according to District Attorney Hestron, she is permanently bedridden.
She has permanent damage, cerebral palsy.
that is a result of long-term child abuse. Outside the couple's now abandoned home in Cabazon,
countless strangers have gathered to seek justice for Emmanuel. The house's outer walls have been
transformed into a memorial, covered in stuffed animals, toys, and handwritten notes.
The community organized a candlelit vigil in honor of the missing child. And in a heartbreaking twist,
it became painfully clear that the people who should have protected Emmanuel at all costs
were the ones who ultimately destroyed him,
while complete strangers were the ones who stood up for him in the end.
Yeah, Pat, many people who've been watching this story unfold
tell me they just had a gut feeling from the beginning
that something very bad may have happened to this baby
and that maybe his parents had something to do with it.
And so there are so many people who are really invested in Immanuel's story.
That's why dozens came out here tonight
to hold a candlelight vigil for this little boy
on the same day and in the same place at his home in Cabazon,
where earlier today that little boy's parents were arrested for murder.
I don't know what people get in their head just to hurt the baby. Like I don't, it's just so sad.
Tears from strangers for a baby they never even knew. Tonight community members organized a candlelight
vigil at the home of seven-month-old Emmanuel Harrow, who investigators now say was murdered by his own
parents. I had two miscarriages. When I had those, it broke my heart. So to see that somebody was able to
hurt this little boy, it's not okay. In honor of Baby Emmanuel, the Evalde Foundation also made a
permanent change to its mission. The organization officially renamed its no child lost initiative to
Emmanuel's hope. Daniel Chapin, founder and director of the Evaldi Foundation for Kids, said,
While we are heartbroken by the outcome of Emmanuel's case, we're more determined than ever to honor his memory by strengthening our commitment to finding every lost child.
The initiative now named Emmanuel's Hope will provide a beacon of light for families in their darkest hour, ensuring that no stone is left unturned, that every family has the resources they need to bring their child home.
I wish that Emmanuel's story was an anomaly, but sadly it's not.
We've shared the stories of dozens upon dozens of children who have died at the hands of their caregivers, and much like Emanuel, many of those children's remains were never recovered.
They've never been laid to rest with dignity, offered a final resting place for their loved ones or anything.
When we cover a case like this, the names of many children who have never been recovered come rushing back.
But one that stands out to me is the case of Jesse Shockley.
