The Misery Machine - The Case Horrifying of Alivia Naomi Hobbs-Jordan
Episode Date: September 24, 2026This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Decatur, Georgia, to discuss the case of 7-year-old Alivia Hobbs-Jordan, who tragically died after being deliberately abandoned by her biological mother, Alondra Ho...bbs. In June 2023, DeKalb County police responded to a 911 call from an anonymous neighbor reporting a foul odor and a deceased child inside a vacant unit at the Hidden Valley Apartments. Upon investigating, officers discovered Alivia's mummified remains strapped into a stroller hidden inside a bedroom closet. Investigators determined that Alivia, who had autism and cerebral palsy, had been buckled into the stroller and shut in the closet months earlier, between February and June 2023. Her mother had completely moved out of the apartment, leaving Alivia behind with no intention of returning. To cover up the crime, the mother told family members and neighbors that Alivia was staying with her father's side of the family. Autopsy reports indicated that Alivia died from severe starvation and dehydration. Alondra Hobbs was arrested in late June 2023. During police interrogations, she admitted to abandoning the child, claiming that her life had become "too much." Presiding Judge LaTisha Dear Jackson sentenced Hobbs to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Additional details from court records noted that Alivia had never received proper medical treatment for her medical conditions, and Alondra had continued to collect the child's government disability checks after abandoning her.👩⚕️🩺Taking care of your health just got easier, thanks to my sponsor Zocdoc — start here at:https://zocdoc.com/miserymachineSupport Our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/themiserymachineJoin Our Facebook Group: https://t.co/DeSZIIMgXs?amp=1PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/themiserymachineOfficial Merch Store: https://miserymachine-shop.fourthwall.com/Instagram: miserymachinepodcastTwitter: misery_podcast#documentary #themiserymachine #truecrime 🚨 EDUCATIONAL, DOCUMENTARY, SCIENTIFIC, OR ARTISTIC CONTENT DISCLAIMER 🚨CONTENT WARNING: THIS VIDEO IS ABOUT A SENSITIVE TOPIC INVOLVING LOSS OF LIFE. ...operated with Malcolm moving to Albany, Georgia, and going no contact.
Now, according to her mother, Olivia was autistic,
and her medical record showed that she had seizures related to cerebral palsy.
According to those who knew Olivia,
she was a very happy and precious little girl with a huge smile that would light up
room. She loved to eat and was not picky about her food. She loved her toys too and she was never
without one in her hand. Her favorite saying was, hey y'all. In 2023, 27-year-old Alondra
lived in an apartment at the Hidden Valley Apartments, formerly known as Spring Valley, on Misty Waters
Drive, which is a complex just off of Candler Road in unincorporated Decatur, Georgia. According to an
investigation by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, it was one of 272 apartment complexes in
Metro Atlanta that were persistently dangerous. Alondra was arrested in August of 2019 for one count
of simple assault and another in May of 2020 for one count of battery with family violence.
A 2019 warrant accused her of holding a kitchen knife and threatening to stab a man. In her 2020
warrant, she was accused of throwing a toolbox at her spouse. She got 12 months of probation,
in that case and had to take anger management in parenting classes.
One neighbor at Hidden Valley later told reporters that she had seen Olivia two or three times total.
That same neighbor said it seemed odd to her when, earlier in 2023,
Alondra started talking about removing herself from this earth.
When people asked Alondra why she wanted to do this,
the neighbor said that she would never answer, but added,
but she never let you in her apartment, never.
The neighbor told reporters that Alondra would tell them,
the daddy side of the family has her.
Matrice Robinson, who was described in some reports as Olivia's aunt,
and in others as Alondra's aunt, said that we had no clue.
The baby was supposed to be with the dad's mom in Albany.
That's what she kept telling us,
but she was here staying with my sister.
She was staying in the back with a guy.
Whenever they asked about visiting the children,
Alondra would come up with an excuse or switch topics.

around for the following ad. It not only supports the channel, but it also supports charities
in our area. You know what's literally on everybody's to-do list that never gets done, making
a doctor's appointment? And it's not because we don't care about our health. It's because the process
is so aggravating. You have to call during business hours, get put on hold, play phone tag,
and then when you get through, you find out the next appointments in three months. So you just give up.
And then what? You just have to start all over from the beginning again. Does this sound familiar to you?
That's why I started using Zoc Doc, the sponsor of this week's episode, and honestly, I wish I had found them sooner.
You just go to their site, search for doctors in your area who take your insurance, read through real patient reviews, and actually see their available appointment slots.
Then you can book instantly right there and then.
No phone calls, no hold music, and most appointments happen within 24 to 72 hours.
And believe it or not, you can even get same-day visits.
Oh, and it's completely free to use.
Seriously, your health genuinely shouldn't be something you can.
keep postponing. I had a friend tell me just yesterday that they were having trouble finding a
PCP. And a few weeks ago, another one telling me they wanted to find a psychologist, but the process
is just too overwhelming. Health care is something too many people are putting off in this country,
and this is working to help bridge that gap. That's why I believe so much in Zoc Doc. Let today be the
day you decide to make health care a priority again. Just click the link in the description. It takes two
minutes, and it gets that appointment off your plate for good. Head to Zocdoc.com slash misery

Around 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 25th, 2023, a neighbor at Hidden Valley, who asked not to be named,
was heading back from a friend's place. He said the front door of one of the apartments was wide open.
He said the open door fell off to him, and when he walked closer, he picked up a foul smell.
He said the lights were off when he stepped inside the white,
bedroom apartment and clearly nobody was home. None of the furniture was gone and stuff was still
sitting out on the counter like someone had left in a hurry. When he got to the bedroom, the closet
door was open with something hanging out of it. It was Olivia's arm. The man said the condition of
Olivia's body made it look like she had been there for a long time. He said, she looked like a real mummy.
you could tell it was a young girl by what she had on and by her hair.
He said he called 911 twice and that the dispatchers didn't believe him
and that one of them even hung up on him.
Eventually, he said he had to wave down a security guard at the complex to reach emergency services.
According to the police incident report,
an 8 to 10-year-olds was dead in the closet.
The report says the caller gave no other details
and was calling from a disconnected cell phone.
officers responded to apartment 27 at about 9.17 p.m.
A neighbor told the officers that it had been a couple of months since he last saw the tenants who had moved out.
Inside of the apartments, they found Olivia's mummified body strapped into a stroller in the bedroom closet.
A purse was placed on top of her body with debris scattered all around.
One officer noted that she looked to be about two to four years old and that there was what appeared
to be a full head of hair and decayed flesh that was in the form of an arm and leg.
Another officer found a piece of mail inside the apartment that had a laundra's name on it.
Catherine Costella was the unit's next door neighbor.
According to Catherine, a woman used to live in the unit but she never saw a child there.
She said, the child never went out of the apartment, didn't go to school.
Other neighbors said the unit wasn't empty and that squatters had been sleeping there.
It makes you wonder whether or not the squatters knew that Olivia was there or if they cared.
In a police interview, Alondra said she had left Olivia alone in the apartment confined to a stroller in the closet.
She told the police that Olivia was alive when she left her.

The reason she abandoned her is that her life was too much.
Going to Elandra, she did what she did because she suffered from depression and bipolar disorder
and didn't have proper parental guidance growing up.
She also claimed that she left her daughter alone and got a ride from an unnamed man.
When asked why she didn't go back to the apartment,
she claimed that she would have to perform a sex act in exchange for a ride home.
When asked why she didn't give her baby up for adoption,
she said, these are her words,
that she didn't want to give her baby to the white people.
It should be noted that Alondra's sister,
works for DFCS, and she couldn't be bothered to reach out to her for help either.
Records from the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office list Olivia's immediate cause of death
as inonition and dehydration. The literal meaning of inonition is severe physical depletion
due to starvation or malnutrition. Essentially, Olivia was starved to death. Her manner of
death was listed as a homicide. According to Dr. Gerald Goet,
the medical examiner who performed Olivia's post-mortem exam.
He said it would have taken several days for her to pass,
and he felt that this is one of the most tortured ways a person could die.
In fact, he mentioned being haunted by Olivia's case,
calling it one of the worst that he's ever handled in his entire career.
It should be also noted that at autopsy,
a plastic bag was found in her stomach cavity.
A little girl weighed only five pounds and was considered
fully mummified. All of her internal organs were gone. We do not mean that her internal organs were
forcibly removed by someone, but that they were gone through her extreme state of decomposition.
According to the medical examiner, that level of mummification would have taken months to occur
and insects were present in and around her body. She arrived at the facility still sitting
in the stroller that she was found in. A piece of clothing was found stuffed deep.
inside of her mouth, which was difficult for them to remove, pointing through the likelihood that
Olivia was starving so badly. She tried to eat whatever she could in an attempt to survive.
Her hair analysis showed that she was exposed to nicotine, Benadryl, doxylamine, and you might know
this is Unisom, which is an over-the-counter sleep aid, and Olivia was also shown to be exposed to meth
and fentanyl. On Thursday, June 29th, 23,
DeKalb County police arrested Alondra at a day's inn and charged her with felony murder and second degree cruelty to children.
Alondra was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for a condition that was not made public.
Her first court appearance was set for Monday, July 3rd, and it was delayed.
She was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday evening and booked into the Decab County Jail, where she was held without bond.
On Wednesday, July 5th, Elondra went before Magistrate Court Judge Williams by video for her first,
court appearance. Judge Williams asked about reading the two warrants against her. Public defender,
Ryan Bozarth, said, we do waive the reading. Judge Williams couldn't set bond and sent her case up to
a superior court. On December 2nd, 2024, Alondra's husband filed for divorce. And we should be clear,
the husband in question is not Olivia's father, but it is unclear whether or not he's the father
of Alondra's other two children. He allegedly had no knowledge of what was being done to Olivia,
and it already moved out of the apartment long before the events of today's story.
His name hasn't really come up in police reports.
He has had no charges brought against him.
So let's be very clear here.
And that's why we're not naming him.
His name only came up once in news sources that we found.
However, this didn't stop Alondra from trying to blame him for her daughter's murder.
And blame him she did many, many times during her interrogation.
But no evidence of this was ever found.
10 days later, on Thursday, December 12th, Alondra was due in court in DeKalb County for a plea hearing
but was moved to December 19th. Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025, Alondra, now 29 years old,
went from DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Letitia Deere Jackson and entered a non-negotiated
guilty plea. She pled guilty to malice murder, two counts of felony murder, and two counts of
first-degree cruelty to children. Her defense attorney told the court she does not want a trial,
she wants to take responsibility.
In her reports, her attorney asked for a sentence of life with the possibility of parole.
The DA's office told the court the evidence suggested Alondra had shown very little remorse.
According to the prosecution, when she was asked if she wanted a funeral for Olivia,
she said that she did not care because no one had ever helped her raise Olivia.
Prosecutor told the judge that Alondra said she did what she did to Olivia or she was going to
remove herself from the earth.
Prosecutor said Alondra kept cashing her daughter's $900 monthly disability checks after
abandoning her.
According to the prosecutor, Alondra also started dating immediately, and after she was cheated on,
she told investigators that being cheated on was the worst day of her life.
During this hearing, Judge Jackson said, this is a very tragic case.
There are always options.
There's very rare cases where a murder case does not involve a weapon, a physical
weapon and sometimes hands are a physical weapon and it's difficult how do you process that although judge
jackson acknowledged that she felt alondra had shown remorse she ultimately sentenced elandra to life in prison
without the possibility of parole in a statement de cap county district attorney sherry boston said
olivia jordan did not deserve the slow painful and lonely death she suffered at the hands of her mother
I want parents to know that abandoning a child is never the right choice and help is available for those who are struggling.
The Georgia Department of Corrections records also list a 20-year sentence on each of the two counts of cruelty to children.
Alondra went into state prison custody on May 7, 2025.
The department lists her most recent prison as Pulaski State Prison.
In July of 2023, Alondra's family said they didn't know what was happening.
Her mother, Tammy Blasengen, told reporters,
I would have never thought my daughter would do something like this.
Tammy said she and Alondra hadn't talked,
and she didn't want to since Alondra could have reached out for help.
With family now planning a funeral nobody expected,
Tammy said, justice should be served.
I've never seen a casket that little.
According to Alondra's Aunt Latrice,
she deserved to live a little longer than she did.
