Starting point is 00:00:00 TMS is brought to you daily by and large by the support of patrons at patreon.com slash TMS, like Wolf, Martian diplomat, Jeffrey, and Lobert. Coming up on TMS, I don't like a crotch full of bees. I'ma put down my headphones and go clean up my printer's throw up. Did you lump all the Frankensteins together? Mr. X is a dick. Pushing the Android button. A mound of plastic goo.
Starting point is 00:00:24 Why is the peanut butter in the refrigerator? I don't know! King Kong is such a ding-dong. It would be nicer if the price went down. Pay to torture yourself. You know, I think I'll just wait for fresh fries, thank you. Come on, Barbie, let's go, nuke. Flipping for the fold with Tom.
Starting point is 00:00:40 Playing Tetris during recommendals and more on this episode of the morning stream. What's this for? There's a saying that squadmates who've never touched each other will get into an accident. Kids are calling it by the more popular slang term but hash. I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. This is the morning stream. Good morning, everyone.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Welcome to TMS. It's Wednesday, July 26, 2023. I'm Scott Johnson with Brian. Hi, Brian. Hello. Hey, man. We're going to do a little morning show here on a Wednesday. On a Wednesday, a packed, a jam-packed Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:01:33 We couldn't do anything with Wednesday. There were no adjustments that we could make because Wednesday is, Wednesday just felt, felt, you know, untouchable. I agree. I also feel a little more free today because I finished beat Resident Evil 4 remake yesterday. Oh, nice. On stream with John, and we finally finished about a six-part run of that. And I have a new, well, okay, you know what, I'm going to share this with you. I have a list of.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Resident Evil games from scariest to least scariest, okay? So this will help educate anyone out there as like, I want to play that game, tell me Scott, which is the, which is the scariest, which is the least. Here's how it goes. Scariest, at number one, without any question, seven, all right? Resident Evil 7 still just freaking, my gosh, that game was just ready to kill me. Still to this day, just the stuff in it just haunts me, things I saw on there.
Starting point is 00:02:25 It was horrible. After that one, I would say, uh two the remake for two uh and that mr x isn't that and he's a dick and it's really scary and i hate it uh so that's number two number three uh we go with uh village the newest one eight that one's scary that would look really scary so i'm that that interests me hearing you say that it's got a little less uh how do i put this there are moments in it there there's this baby basement thing that just about wrecked me so there are definitely scary things in it but also kind of goes back to what some of the more adventurey aspects of the earlier
Starting point is 00:03:04 games so that's why that one's a little lower on the list then I would say after four I would go um oh gosh my brain just went dead uh oh then I would go four the one I just played lots more action way less scary but there are moments there's some stuff and then I would say three and then original two then one yeah yeah and one is scary at the time. Like when I played one, it's scary at the time. Yeah. That initial like you're coming up the stairs, that first zombie you see who slowly turns
Starting point is 00:03:37 his head, like as he's munching on Barry or who I'm not Barry, obviously. We're hanging out with Barry and Jill. You and Barry are friends. I hope that Chris is blood. Yeah, that one. That was scary at the time.
Starting point is 00:03:53 But yeah, things really escalated and went up from there. Yeah. And it could be redone in a way that was you know, they could really get us again, but you look at it now and it's just kind of cheeseball. But at the time, you know, that first time those dogs jumped out of the glass or whatever. Oh, yeah, and all this, yeah, right. That'll put some fear in you, you know. So anyway, yeah, done. I don't know what their plans are for the future, but I have officially played every Resident Evil mainline game from top to bottom
Starting point is 00:04:21 in some form or another, most of which on stream. There you go. All right, I'm done. What next? You're going to do that alien, uh, that alien game you remember the one with Ripley's daughter oh alien isolation isolation yeah I might so Carter and I started that we never finished it so we may pick that up again the other one was
Starting point is 00:04:42 the new amnesia game was gifted me by oh Jim Jensen we talked about him yesterday oh yeah he gifted me that so he must want to see me suffer because those are supposed to be really scary so we'll see I don't know I only do these if you got this isn't me asking for more of them But if someone gives me codes, I'll stream them. If they don't give me codes, I'm not buying them, ever.
Starting point is 00:05:03 Yeah, yeah. Why would I do that? Why do I put myself through that? I'm not going to pay to torture myself, but if someone else does, I'll deal with it. Anyway, that was a lot of fun. Hey, look at this here. I got a sound clip taken right from our Discord, community Discord over at Frogpans.com slash Discord. And it was Claire, you know, Claire Gack?
Starting point is 00:05:25 Have you heard of her? I've heard of her. I don't know if she's in. the chat today or not. It's okay if she hasn't seen her. I know everybody that just see a lot of lowercase letters so nope. No that's true. There's no all caps in there. She's not here. So I'm going to play audio she sent either accidentally or on purpose. But Discord now let you identify what she's saying. Yeah and Discord let you leave little voice memos now. So you can just speak into it and leave a little file. And this is what she said and we'll try to suss it out.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Here you go. What the fuck is really? What do you think that was? Oh, well, it definitely begins with a what and ends with a Scott, I think. Let's try it. How long was this, was this when she was at TMS, Vegas, and her voice had completely left her? No, this was like two days ago, is all. Okay. And let's trade, let's, okay, so now you think you've got what and Scott. Let's hear it again.
Starting point is 00:06:14 What is your face? I don't know. I don't know what that is. I don't either. It scares the crap out of me. Get a real phone, Claire. maybe barbarian on something oh that brought me back immediately dude that character i'll say that to not spoil anything yeah is is the embodiment just that character forget about everything else it's very inventive cool
Starting point is 00:06:45 movie but that one character is the embodiment of resident evil seven like seven okay okay and that lady yeah yeah see that's what i'm saying And there's even a whole boss in there where there's a lady with her crotch full of bees. She has a giant bees nest in her crotch. Really? Oh, seven is something, man. Oh, geez. And they wanted me to play that in VRF?
Starting point is 00:07:06 Everybody. I'm not ever doing that. Is the woman the one with the crotch, bees in her crotch? The woman that, like, was the, basically the image you saw all over in people talking about Resident Evil. No, that was, I think you're thinking a lady demiskew, the big hat lady. Exactly. That's who I'm thinking of. Yes. Yeah. And she's from eight. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Best part of her, though, is somebody made a mod for Village where when you'd see her, she'd look normal. Yeah. And she always scared me no matter when I was in the room with her. But when I'd see her, she's very tall and kind of imposing. And you'd see her and she'd look normal. She's wearing that big, sideways kind of southern bell hat. Yes. And the mod made it so you would look away and do other stuff.
Starting point is 00:07:50 And every time you looked at her, her hat would get larger. so in theory you can keep going there's video this somewhere but every time you look back at her bigger bigger bigger and eventually her hat is larger than the entire map you're on it's pretty great that's fantastic okay i need to find that video it's really really funny i never did it but somebody somebody else did it that's great uh somebody somebody said that clara is saying what the f is wrong with you scott okay let's try it again okay i can hear it Oh, I can hear it, yeah. I can hear it.
Starting point is 00:08:26 I know, oh, I know what it was. I changed the name of their Catter-Day. You get together meet up. Cat-Pooligans, yeah, though. I called it Cat-Turd Day. Oh, okay. And then put an ugly cat image in it, like a gross, hairless cat. Oh, yeah, I saw that screeching, screeching cat.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Yeah. I saw that as I was walking into the acro cats show. Perfect. That's exactly when I saw that I'm like, oh, well, this doesn't feel appropriate. No, not at all. Yeah, but I did that. It was mostly for Monica. I just like teasing her, but I guess Claire had an issue with it.
Starting point is 00:09:01 So now we know. What the fuck is really? You stop. Even her phone doesn't like to hear her yell. No, no. All right. Fair enough. It's weird my iPhone never sounds like that.
Starting point is 00:09:15 She's fun to have phone arguments with. Oh, she is. It's a good time. It's just like pushing those virtual buttons, pushing those lack of buttons. on my smartphone. That's right. I got a quick thing about jury duty. We got to follow up on a text that I think is worth reading before we move on here.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Sounds good. I don't remember if we got a name. We did not. It just is anonymous. It says, hi, left, and right twix. We're both twixes. I like that. I like that one a lot.
Starting point is 00:09:43 Yeah, it's pretty solid. Anyway, it says, I was thinking about Scott's weird jury duty instructions and thought he might have been selected for a grand jury. oh gosh okay typically those come up sort of randomly as needed so they probably wouldn't be in any or say any sorry they wouldn't be able to say specifically when to meet that's how it works here anyway you're pretty much just on a big list when they call uh or sorry when list they call when the grand jury needs to meet just a thought i don't know how grand juries work i don't understand anything about that process i could probably look it up but maybe and if it's a grand jury that's like a big gnarly uh yeah you don't want to get out of that business oh gosh it's like uh where they're
Starting point is 00:10:25 they're trying to throw a politician into jail or something right exactly right isn't that usually what you get with a grand jury it's not like a you know criminal trial or something yeah no that's uh i don't know what to expect we'll see i don't either uh i do while you get brian on the phone i do need to go uh stop my printer because it's bad oh no go check it go check it go get it i'm gonna add done away while you go do that all right let's get done away while you go do that all right let's get done away in here brian's printer 3d printer if you miss the pre-show is uh spitting out spaghetti last night it looks like it's probably doing it again needs an adjustment needs a fix of some kind and uh by gum he'll do it he'll find a way he'll push a screw he'll hit a hammer with the nail
Starting point is 00:11:07 or the other way around i guess is how that works i'm not very handy as you can tell and uh and bobbed your uncle all right we're calling done away and he's not answering That's utterly fantastic when you've got no one on the air but me. Yes, that's right. The Solo Scot Show, coming at you live, 24-7. Here we go. He's blinking. Oh, a glitch.
Starting point is 00:11:32 That's weird. All right. Well, we'll keep trying to call him while Brian's out there cleaning up his spaghetti. Let's guess as to what he's printing. I think he's 3D printing some kind of Marvel deal, you know? Because he's a fan of the marvels and the what-nots. You can't say it that way because there is something called the Marvels. Oh, here he comes.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Let's get an update. Update from Brian Ibid. How's the project? How's it going? Here's what it just printed. Oh, it's perfect. Look at that. This is a mound of goo, a mound of plastic goo.
Starting point is 00:12:05 To what happened? Is something just not right? Yeah, it did not stick to the plate, but it didn't decide not to do. Well, it stuck to the plate long enough to do this little, you know, this nice smooth part right here. And then it promptly pulled. off the stuff from the plate and then just started pumping out resin and moving around the plate
Starting point is 00:12:24 I guess polishing it for me. Polishing the plate for you. Yeah. What's the ultimate shape we should? I was going to try to guess but I can't tell from that blob. What is this supposed to be? Oh, I don't think I have one here with me. I'm doing a, there's an Omni, Omine
Starting point is 00:12:40 Display. Let's see if I can find the website. Omni Display. I like the sound of that. Omni display. This is a really cool. Let's see if Omnidplay. Omnidplay.com is the right site. It's a Kickstarter right back that allows you to make modular
Starting point is 00:13:00 wall hanging display cases. Oh, Omnidplay.com. Is that it? No, it's not. Oh, that's more fine. Oh, this is just like, hey, you're doing a booth at a con? Exactly. Trade show? How about this? Well, this will be fun. We have a place here called Modern Display, and I'm, I used to hate those guys. Oh, wait, did I just hear Dunaway? Oh, we have a Dunaway.
Starting point is 00:13:23 Oh, hi, Dunaway. Are you there? Oh, hi, Scott and Brian. Oh, don't go anywhere. There's this. Gone. Brian Dunaway joins us all the way from South Carolina to play a little game of this today. Hi, Brian.
Starting point is 00:13:37 How are you? Oh, I got it's going on my wife, so I'm just a hurry. Are you aware of you? Hi, Scott, Brian. Are you at home? What happened? No, I'm at home. Y'all used to don't call me until 1130.
Starting point is 00:13:49 I'm, like, pulling in the drive, and it's like, beat, beep, beep, I'm like, what is it to hurry for? Yeah, well, we were a few minutes early. You are correct. Well, I'm sorry to make you rush like that. Are you doing okay otherwise? I didn't rush. I was like, well, they'll just have to.
Starting point is 00:14:03 You have to wait for your sorry ass. I'm just kidding. I did have groceries than the front porch. I was like, shit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You sure did. Do you bring those in? Do you need a second?
Starting point is 00:14:13 No, no, I did it. I actually actually, I should grab them to. threw them all in refrigerated. It's like cold, I don't know. It's going to, all goes to refrigerators. Everything's getting, everything's getting refrigerated. Right. Why is the, why is the peanut butter in fridge?
Starting point is 00:14:24 I don't know. I know. It's a great question. I was getting here. Well, good news is we have a contestant as well, and I'm very excited about this one. Our third caller, which is the one I was going to choose today, is Sarah, aka Shogio beat. Hello?
Starting point is 00:14:37 Yay. Oh, hi. Hi. Hi. You mean, is this TikTok star Shojo? Holy cow, right? My gosh. Oh, and only.
Starting point is 00:14:45 what do we what do we owe this honor of the great one of the highfalutin TikTok stars out there I don't get how we're this cool I finally got off my ass and got to my PC to get on Discord all right well it's good to have you here
Starting point is 00:15:01 if you're not following her over there you should be I love watching the Warcraft stuff every time it makes me laugh she's the best Warcraft TikToker on TikTok I say that with no irony or pretension she really is anyway well it's
Starting point is 00:15:15 good to have you here. Oh, man, this feels like old time. Like, she's been around this community since. It feels like we're raiding. Are we rating? Yeah. I know. It's a right night. Jeez. Someone yelled banana hammock and let's go. All right. Brian, the way, you explain the rules, so Sarah knows what she's in for and what she might win and all that. All right. Well, for those of you first joining us, it's time to play the tadpool a feud. I've surveyed the tadpull on some nerdy topics, and Scott and Brian are going to have to predict the answers that they gave us. It's Scott and Brian's job to see how many of those answers. answers, they can guess.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Now, Shojo, your job is more important than ever because you're going to be working with either Scott or Brian. And if your team wins, you get a prize package. That includes Project Chemistry and Pill Baby. Pill baby. Pill baby. Sounds awesome. Yeah. It sounds like content for your TikTok channels, what this sounds like.
Starting point is 00:16:07 That's right. Why did it add another column to the right? Did I do that? Did you do that? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Did I do this?
Starting point is 00:16:14 I don't know. Oh, is it this? Hold on. Does it go away now? No, I don't know what it did. I have no idea. I can delete it, but it's really weird because I typed in Shojo and it added a whole extra column. There we go. Yeah. I fixed it. Weird.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Good, Joe. All right. All right. All right, let's get to your question. Let's see how you guys do. We ask 385 tadpullers, the following question. Only one person decided to skip and said, pass. Oh, actually, take it back.
Starting point is 00:16:43 Another person, I'll tell you what they said afterwards, but it's kind of funny. Hands on buzzers, name a famous black and white movie. Oh, come on. We're going to go with Nospheratu. Nosephiratu. Nosephiratu. Show me Nospheratu. Really?
Starting point is 00:17:06 Wow. That was number, like, 12 or 13 or something. Number 12 was Nospheratu. and one person said, Nusferatu, hi, it's Monica. Oh, of course she did. Gosh, dang it. All right. Well done away, you can steal it.
Starting point is 00:17:21 Brian, you get full crack at the board. I read the whole question, so I don't need to finish the question. I actually read it again. I just make sure I get it right. Sure. Name a famous black and white movie. Casablanca. You know what I show.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Oh, show me Casablanca. Damn it. Number one ends around the board. Yes. And it's you and Dunaway together. Oh, yeah. They're tear it up. I'm going to tear it up.
Starting point is 00:17:49 Show Joe style. So do you have one off top of your head? I do. I can give you my answer. Oh, get yours out there. That's my favorite black and white movie, but I chose 12 Angry Men. Oh, that's the good one. That's the more modern one.
Starting point is 00:18:02 True, true. Well, sort of. 50s. Well, it's more modern than Casablanca. Yeah, that's true. Yeah. All right. Show me 12 Angry Men.
Starting point is 00:18:10 oh come on it's funny because that's the one i put in there too and i was one of seven people who put that in number 14 on the list was 12 angry men fantastic movie back to scott so tell us old man scott when you were growing up how many black and white movies uh not many unfortunately but i'm going to go with one where i think since this is the tadpool i think they might throw me a bone so i'm going to say mad max fury road black uh black and chrome edition oh that's a good one i like that black and chrome that's really black and white it's black and chrome well it's black and white they just call it chrome yeah but you guys y'all should see it if you haven't it's a really cool version of the movie but uh yeah you have to get this DVD or the blu-ray yeah yeah anyway all right
Starting point is 00:18:55 show me mad mex fury road black and chrome edition yeah you know you know your you know your tad pull really well but they're you know pretty good okay god that also makes me think they may have done some recent things. So I'm going to say, a recent ish. I'm going to say Schindler's list. Oh, darn it. Duh.
Starting point is 00:19:18 Shindler's list. Although it does have one color in it, but spoilers, it's important thing. All right, show me. Shindler's list. Number two answer on the board. All right.
Starting point is 00:19:30 A little hockey. Um, uh, oh gosh. Now we're into a weird. zone um let's let's go with the lighthouse that's recent weird zone i feel like they're going recent the reason i'm doing this so sure all right even though castle blanc was number one all right sure good uh show me the lighthouse damn it only this surprised me only one person said the lighthouse and i was thinking it's easily going to be like you know five or ten people saying
Starting point is 00:20:04 right right right right that's surprise me okay yeah i'll take Take it. What do you guys got? You got more? What you got? What you got? Well, so, yeah, I'm kicking myself in the ass for Colleen on a topic I don't know much about. But clerks, like, that's another one.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Yeah. Yeah. This is true. This is true. This is true. Yeah, two and three were not, but the first one was, yeah. Yeah, when you pay for your movie all with credit card, you can't afford color. Isn't it funny how you forget about color or something? When you just forget about it? Probably do, yeah. crap. Like Shino's list, you're like, every time I'm like, okay, let's watch. Oh, it's right. It's black and white. All right. All right.
Starting point is 00:20:46 Show me. I'm not even supposed to be here today. Yeah. Number eight. Well, good boy. That's Joe. Look at that tied up. Look at that. Yeah, yeah. Good job. All right. I think about the, well, there's one that I'm thinking of this more modern. And I love it, but I don't know if anybody would say it. But show, did you have another one? No.
Starting point is 00:21:06 No. That's it. I'm done. Barbie. I think we should go with classics like, you know, everybody used to watch this. There's a couple of movies that watched every year. They were black and white. One of them is, it's a wonderful life. Oh, yeah, that's good.
Starting point is 00:21:20 What do you think about that? That's a good one. That's a good one. All right. Let's do that then. I'll be shocked. Merry Christmas, Bedford, Fall Savings alone. Merry Christmas, you old movie theater.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Oh, wait, I have another one. Okay. All right. Show me. It's a wonderful life. oh come on oh come on there we go there is oh jeez it took a while
Starting point is 00:21:43 I know for that angel to get his wings it did you said you had another one yeah so a movie that we were forced to watch like in English class the first Lord of the Flies that was black and white right
Starting point is 00:21:59 it was it was you want to go okay yeah yeah absolutely yeah we watched that crap too yeah okay that crap Look for a remake coming soon Starring Timothy Chalame Show me Lord of the Flies Oh, come on
Starting point is 00:22:15 You know people I didn't go to school? Come on A bunch of homeschooled kids Nobody said that as a matter of fact Really? Lord of the Fly Did not make it on the list Yeah, that's a bunch of crap
Starting point is 00:22:26 All right, I'm gonna go Oh, this, I'm torn between something Sort of modern and something old But I'll say I'll say Citizen Kane Oh, that's a good one. That's one of the ones I had in my list. It was Citizen Kane.
Starting point is 00:22:42 The best of the Mortal Kombat series. Show me Citizen Kane. I knew it, you bastard. That's good about that. All right, I'll try this one. This may be stupid. Ed Wood. I love Ed Wood.
Starting point is 00:23:00 That's actually a good one. I don't know how many people remember 1994s. I even remember the year. Ed Wood. well done show me ed wood oh boom people may remember it but they nobody said it
Starting point is 00:23:14 not even not even one mention of ed wood again kind of a surprise it's a mistake the movie rocks the wood no all right
Starting point is 00:23:24 so is Joe you got you got any more I'm trying to think okay let's go back to watch your movies we already said nosferatu what about like
Starting point is 00:23:34 Frankenstein. Oh, well, young Frankenstein. Right. Yeah, yeah, young Frankenstein. Everybody loves that one, black and white as well. Did you lump all the Frankenstines together? Yeah, I'm like, I don't know how I'm either wear, but I'm sure there's a budget. That would be ironic, wouldn't it? That's a very good point.
Starting point is 00:23:54 Did you piece them all together into one? I did not, I did not sew them all together into one answer. All right, fine. Because they're different movies. All right, fine, Mary Shelley. What do you think, Jo? Young Frankenstein. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Let's roll the dice. We're going with the young man, Frankenstein. All right. Show me Young Frankenstein. Oh, look at you. Yeah. No, you're on you. Classic. You guys are ahead by a few ports.
Starting point is 00:24:20 Perks. Parks. For Young Frankenstein. There's a classic that I love, and I've recently went back and watched because I've been watching trailers from hell, and they've been talking about psycho two and three and I said well I need to go back because I don't I always forget there's a there's like two three and four of psycho always forget about that but the original classic psycho black and white classic what do you think show Joe sure sure the next one we're more in black and white just that first one is I'm all ideas whatever I'm getting I'm getting sure and in which case do you want me to there's two this is our last strike so it's over anyway. What does it matter? Well, I guess Scott can steal it.
Starting point is 00:25:07 I could still steal it and then run the board, which probably is not likely, by the way. I'm not doing great. Right. Yeah. I think we should go psycho. Psychic, feel safer. Okay. All right. Yeah. Save psycho. Show me feel safe with Psycho. Nice. Safe it is. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Now, they did put Mad Max Fury Road on here, and my favorite more recent black and white film is going to be Logan. that of Logan, I love that. How'd I forget this? The decolorized Logan. Yes.
Starting point is 00:25:39 Did they do? Oh, I forgot. I never saw that version. You didn't. Oh, it's so good. Yeah, I meant to. I remember being excited about it and then never saw it. I wonder if that's real, or can you, is that only Blu-Rae?
Starting point is 00:25:50 Like, if he can go to Disney and watch the, uh, oh, it would it be even beyond, yeah, they did it did they did they? Good point. Yeah, they had the age checker on that one, but the, I think it's probably. I think I had the 4K version of that. look it up. I'll look it up while you guys are doing this. All right. What do you think? Do you want to go that route? Or you want to pick an old? Okay. Let's go. Logan. Black and white, please.
Starting point is 00:26:10 All right. Show me Logan. Oh, you nerd. Logan was on the list. It was number. Where is it? Maybe it wasn't on the list. That surprises me. I'm also surprised by this. You know, every movie for a long time. time when I was growing up was black and white according to this by the way
Starting point is 00:26:36 Logan has all had black and white TV that's all we had HBO and black and white TV really going to spring for cable not a color TV all right yeah sure why not Logan is only in its normal form on Disney Plus by the way ah bummer yeah I'll send you my copy find it somewhere else um okay so
Starting point is 00:26:52 two answers left you need both of them to win one of them won't do it okay and then it's exactly so so show Joe is one Show Joe's one. Excellent. We did it.
Starting point is 00:27:03 Yep. Okay. Let's do King Kong. Oh, let's go. King Kong. The original 39 or whatever year it was. So not the 70s one? No.
Starting point is 00:27:16 No. Not that one. I like that one. All right. Show me King Kong. Oh, come on. He's such a ding-dong. Nice job again.
Starting point is 00:27:27 I think you're 100% right on the year. Would you say 39? Thirty-nine, I think. What was it, I was earlier? Crap. I knew it was 30s. But, yeah, well done. I got it within the decade.
Starting point is 00:27:38 King Kong was, let's see, number, that one was on the list, and it was tied for 35th place with only one person voting. Perfect. All right, let's start the angry emails and look at number nine. Sin City. It's going to be Sin City. Oh, this doesn't count. I didn't say it. Oh, that was such a small darn soft.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Yeah. That's a to. Damn, gum it. Oh, just you wait. Well, I suppose you also included the Oz the great and powerful. They do the whole gimmick, too, right? Yeah, they do. Well, it didn't make him the top ten, but actually nobody said.
Starting point is 00:28:17 It's color the whole movie, except for the tiny bit at the beginning. It's lame. I love it. I thought about it. I thought about it for a second. I was like, nah, they wouldn't say that. Yeah, they did. Yeah, they did.
Starting point is 00:28:26 She's like in Kansas for a good half hour. Yeah, I guess it's a chunk. Of course, she drops a house on a witch, you know what I'm saying? It's like five minutes at the end. Show me number 10. Oh, that's the same problem. That thing is full of weird color stuff. Get out of here.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Right. Yellows and stuff like that. Yeah. But, you know, people, it's a tip. You go with what the answer. Yeah. It is true. That said, I did have to take one answer out of the top 10 because I feel like those two you
Starting point is 00:29:00 might have been able to guess. You might have been able to go Sin City. You might have been able to go Wizard of Oz. I had to take Gone with the Wind out. I thought about that for a second. Because you saw it in black and white when I first saw it, I think. Yeah. But that was nice for. Well, it was probably on a crappy TV because that's the first color movie to win in Oscar. It's color. It's very much color. It was like known for that. It was a huge deal for that at the time. Exactly. Let's go down the rest of this list because I want, especially genie to chime in every time I mention a movie
Starting point is 00:29:34 that is not black and white and there are a lot of them on here. Metropolis which is funny because Scott, you used that at the beginning of the show for the pre-show That is black and white. Yeah, that's black and white. Yeah, yeah. Seven samurai, the Maltese Falcon, Miracle on
Starting point is 00:29:50 3D 4th Street, Steamboat Willie, the birds, to kill a mockingbird. So far so good. Arsnick and Old Lace, bringing up baby, creature from the Black Lagoon, some like it hot, the apartment, the artist, the kid, a trip to the moon, bridge on the river Kwai, color, high noon, on the waterfront, Pleasantville, kind of was your same little thing. Same problem, but yeah, sure. Rear window, pretty much color, very, very much color, if I remember correctly.
Starting point is 00:30:19 The Great Dictator and 310 to Yuma, presumably the original. Oh, guarantee you. Then we get into Black Panther, somebody thinking they're very cheeky about that one. um how'd you write the question love i said your favorite black and white name a famous black and white movie uh Dracula good duck soup flash Gordon Frankenstein the original frankestine godzilla king of the monsters uh Harvey house on haunted hill somebody just said I'm 31 I'm hilarious and I argue uh Roma uh the artist
Starting point is 00:30:56 um maybe Schindler's list is right just barely before your time but still yeah sure um once again Logan all these modern films no no but did anybody mention do you want to do raging bold did you say that one nobody did a raging bold that's surprising yeah I love that one strikingly black and white yeah I love that one and also the man who wasn't there is a great
Starting point is 00:31:16 Cohen brothers movie oh the uh right yep I forgot that was it in black and white too was there a um was pennies from heaven the Steve Martin thing was that black and white or was it just a tribute like it was just an homage to uh I don't know. Penny's from heaven. That was not the 78 one. It was the, or was it?
Starting point is 00:31:34 That might have been 78. Or was it? It was like a buzzy, Berkeley. Oh, this is the wrong movie. Oh, but crap. I can't find it. It might have been, but yeah, I'm surprised some of it. I'm raging bull, I thought for sure it'd be on there.
Starting point is 00:31:48 I'm shocked. Raging Bull is a surprise. I'm surprised that somebody said Roma and nobody said raging bull. That actually, that actually is really funny. I just love the fact that 10 of you said gone with the wind. And no Gilligan's Island movie, right? Okay. The movies were all color, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:03 They were color after season one. Season one was the only black and white. Real quick, the, the one, the recent one, the Belfast one. That could have been on there. Oh, Belfast. Another good choice, yes. Right. Why the heck not?
Starting point is 00:32:16 Well, there you go. This is the important takeaway, though. Forget about all that. What matters most. Congratulations. Is this? You're a winner. That's right.
Starting point is 00:32:24 We've given Chojo her comeuppance here. She's won. She deserves it. She'll win again, I'm sure. I can just feel it. Shojo, tell us how you feel about your big win. I feel fantastic. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:32:38 Let's roll butt holes. Still my favorite thing that ever happened. Was it in TMS Vegas? Oh, yeah. And she yells, let's roll buttholes. And Tom visibly was shaken. He was like, I don't know what to do with this. It was so good.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Anyway, hey, Dunaway, guess what? Later today, 330 Mountain Time, you and I are talking about gex on play retro yeah what do you think of that that that 3d oh title if you're only 31 you might not know about gex on 3d oh but you might know it on playstation yeah he made it there or dreamcast or uh not dream cast it made it to the n64 it made it to uh the Sega Saturn yeah the Sega Saturn that's right it was uh it was a weird little thing and it existed and we're going to talk about it it was it you know it was the 90s and it was rude and I learned something very important We might analyze this tonight that the European versions of Gex 2 and 3, which has a title, we're not going to mention here, use a different voice actor other than Dana Gould.
Starting point is 00:33:37 So they were doing the quips. That's right. They were not American centric. And it's all about to get a big old remake slash remaster weirdly. So we're going to talk about it with all the snark and the, there's all kinds of, ooh. Some of it's rough. Yeah. Some of it's like, ooh, when was this?
Starting point is 00:33:55 How long ago was this? Okay, maybe not say that anymore. Anyway, we'll find out more tonight when we talk all about it. 330 Mountain time. Go to frogpants.tv, if you want to watch that live at 330 Mountain, or if you want the podcast after, it goes up immediately when we're done. And you can get it right away wherever you get your podcast. Brian Donoway, have a great rest of your day.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Oh, you kiss my bat. All right. He's gone. They're gone. He's gone. Now this. Good morning. Good morning, everybody.
Starting point is 00:34:24 In the news this morning, good morning. We've got to do a little news, and it's brought to us by. Red Fraggle 3 on YouTube. Watch her throw pots and pull handles. Yeah, she can make some stuff out of clay, man. Get in there. It's so cool. It's awesome.
Starting point is 00:34:38 I think she'll be probably doing it tomorrow after TMS. Yeah. Support your favorite tadpuller content creators. There's a bunch of here. That's right. Right. Red Fraggle 3 is definitely one of those. So hop over there and show your support.
Starting point is 00:34:53 All right. they're going to talk about South Carolina. Oh, funny, we just had Dunaway here, so. Yeah, no kidding. On to South Carolina. South Carolina Burger King manager was arrested, accused of serving customers' fries from the trash can. Oh, geez. Oh, that's no good.
Starting point is 00:35:10 And I, you know what? I like their fries as compared to some of the others. But I don't like this story at all. No, no, I do not. Let's see, the restaurant's assistant manager, 39-year-old Jamie Christine Major, was accused of taking stale fries from the trash? How do you know they were stale? Maybe it's just been, you know.
Starting point is 00:35:28 Well, probably why they were thrown in the trash. Oh, they're stale throwing them, like they're four hours old, throw them in the trash. Yeah, they probably have a limit. Adding them to a container where freshly cooked fries were dumped and then putting the fries on top according to the state. Not the old comedy troupe that was on the MTV. No.
Starting point is 00:35:46 This is definitely not a comedy story. Comedy of airs, I guess. On Monday, Major was arrested. in charge with tampering with food, which is a felony charge. You don't mess with people's food, it turns out. Burger King spokesman told Newsweek, quote, these allegations do not align with the brand's commitment to quality, food, and service in creating an exceptional guest experience. They put guest in a capital G.
Starting point is 00:36:14 That's how highly they think of us. We're a capital G guest. That's right. Only us, God, and other, I guess, proper nouns get the, get the G or get the capital treatment. That's right, exactly. The franchisee of this restaurant is cooperating with local authorities and will take appropriate action based on the findings. As this remains an ongoing investigation, we are unable to share additional details at this time, unquote, says the fast food giant.
Starting point is 00:36:39 The charges carry a sentence about to 20 years in prison. Good Lord. Their bond, Major's bond, was set at a major 20 grand. That is major. Yeah. So freaking lazy. Just like make up a new batch. Oh, I'm sorry, we're just putting fresh fries down.
Starting point is 00:36:55 You'll, uh, we'll have them out to. I'll bring them out to your table personally in five minutes. I don't care how busy you are. I as a customer, I would way more want that than I want old fries in the garbage can. No doubt. I'd like no fries if the only option is trash fries. Yeah, even if you say to me, like, you, are you okay waiting? There's nothing else in the trash can.
Starting point is 00:37:16 We just threw them in the, in the, you know, in a fresh bag. Like, no. Maybe it's because there's so many Karen's now. You just feel pressured. like, you know, have it done quicker because you don't want to hear somebody complain. Maybe it's that bad in the retail or this service world. Maybe. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:37:32 I'm trying to have some empathy for this, but it's hard to. I know. There's no, like, obviously there's no excuse, but there's not even anything that's like a passable, like, oh, I could maybe see that. But no. No, that's a hard one. All right. Let's get to, there's more fallout from the Oppenheimer Barbie. fight. Oh my gosh. More
Starting point is 00:37:55 more fallout. I like that. Oh, I didn't even, I didn't mean to. A theater has mistakenly played Oppenheimer with Barbie subtitles. Oops. That's interesting. All right. That is kind of interesting. Barbie and Oppenheimer, the two most anticipated anticipated, anticipated
Starting point is 00:38:13 movies, which recently released globally on Friday, have inspired a frenzy for the diametrically opposed films. The faceoff between Hollywood summer blockbusters has been dubbed by the media as Barbenheimer. I don't know if the media dubbed it that. I think some idiot on Twitter may have, but whatever. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:38:28 Dubbed by social media as Barbenheimer. There you have it. It would be more accurate. And has set the box office ringing. Is that a thing you say? Set the box office ringing. I mean, I guess I guess the old cash register sound, Neen, ding, ding, ding.
Starting point is 00:38:43 Yeah, they also spelled theater kind of European-ish, so maybe this is just. This is from India. Is it India? Okay. At least the, what were this happy? happened is India. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:38:55 Yeah, I don't know his reporting out. This could be good. I don't know NDTV. Probably not
Starting point is 00:38:58 North Dakota television. No, I don't think it is. I don't think that's going to be the where that is. Let's see. A Twitter user
Starting point is 00:39:09 who goes by the name Sapoon claimed that the movie theater in India playing Oppenheimer with Barbie Sud titles. He wrote, Friend of my cousin
Starting point is 00:39:17 posted an Insta that the cinema played Oppenheimer with Barbie subtitles is what he said. That's fantastic. The picture of the wrong subtitle shared by him went viral, triggering amused reactions and comments, reacting to the hilarious crossover. One user said, quote, not an Indian movie theater making Barbenheimer a reality.
Starting point is 00:39:38 I don't know. That's a bad sentence. Yeah, yeah, I don't understand that sentence at all. I don't get it. All right, here's another one. Another commented, a friend of mine went to see Oppenheimer. And the cinema at the first accidentally played the first five minutes of Barbie. Watching Barbie isn't a choice.
Starting point is 00:39:51 It's a must. The world tells you to watch Barbie, unquote. Boy, you know what I love is articles that quote social media posts. Yes, oh, because they're so coherent. Gosh, dang. Maybe vet some of these before you just copy and paste. Yeah, no kidding. Some of these are just rough.
Starting point is 00:40:09 I love that there's, like, the scene where the bomb is about to go off the subtitles say, come on, Barbie, let's go party. Is there? I don't remember that. I know that's in the Aqua thing. But in the scene when they're, sorry, the credits is where I hear it. There's a little bit of that riff in the credits when they're showing the dolls. Yeah, you get the song there, but that's not, oh, and maybe, and maybe because it's three hours long, that's what you get.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Oppenheimer's thing goes out, like the bomb goes off at three hours in the film. I don't know, I guess Oppenheimer's probably double the size of this movie. Yeah. Something like that. Yeah. All right. Final story. Lakewood, California.
Starting point is 00:40:50 There's a Lakewood police search for a man who stole $4,881 worth of women's bras and panties. Let me correct you, by the way. This is Lakewood, Colorado, my friend. Oh, Colorado connection. This is here. Yeah, this is here. Oh, I read that wrong. All right, Brian, this is great, even better.
Starting point is 00:41:07 This dude stole. They say he's bald a goatee. That's weird. I'm sure those coming. And wears Hawaiian shirts. Yeah, and Hawaiian shirts. It seems like an easy guy to track down. I don't know why they can't find it.
Starting point is 00:41:17 Anyway, that much money worth bras and panties. Police in Lakewood are searching for this suspect, and they are wanted for almost five grand worth of this stuff. But he's been doing it over the last two years, so it's been a slow theft. He has committed at least 26 thefts from various laundry rooms. On each floor of the Lakewood Towers and Belmar apartments between August 2021 and May of this year,
Starting point is 00:41:38 the suspect steals primarily women's bras and underwear. The total value stolen is around five grand, as we've said, three times. The most recent scene, Sorry, he was most recently seen in the building in June and is not a known resident. He is described as a possibly Middle Eastern or Hispanic male with short black hair, a black goatee, dark eyes, average height, and muscular build. Brian, you're good. Your coverage. Definitely, definitely safe.
Starting point is 00:42:00 On all counts. No muscular build, no black goatee, no short black hair. Yep, you're good on all three. Not of Middle Eastern or Hispanic descent. So I'm safe. I can now show my face again at the Belmar apartments. I know exactly where those are. Do you know where that is, really?
Starting point is 00:42:16 Totally do, yeah. Are they known for lots of underwear and bras and stuff? They are now. This is their instant claim to fame. Yeah, you know, stealing $5,000 worth of bras and panties at a rost dress for less, creepy. Stealing them from washing machines, you know, at the apartment complex. That is just, that is over the top. Way over the top, I agree.
Starting point is 00:42:44 It says if anyone sees him call 911 So Brian, you're on alert Check that out Okay, I'll keep an eye out Keep an eye out for them That'll do it for today's stories We're going to take a break when we come back Tom Merritt will be here
Starting point is 00:42:57 We're going to do a little news On the tech front To see what's going on I think today is a big Samsung event Yeah, Samsung unveiled their new foldable Oh, nice And it's gorgeous It must have leaked
Starting point is 00:43:10 Because I don't think they've talked yet Or have they Maybe they have a video on YouTube that was, when I was on YouTube this morning at 8 a.m. As I was working on my 3D printer, I put it on the screen next to me. It had been six hours old, six hours release. It might just be a teaser, but they show the phone. They show what it looks like.
Starting point is 00:43:31 Ooh, that's a sexy little foldable there. I like that. Yes, it is. I like that full-color screen. Ooh, I like this format. I do, too. It's a good size. Android, though.
Starting point is 00:43:44 that's fine anyway with you we'll talk to Tom see what's up in that world and more and then recommendals after that we got a full lineup
Starting point is 00:43:52 today so check that all out after this song break and Brian has brought a song to play what do you have yes a brand new

They're going to have a great time. No kidding. They're going to have a great time. Yeah, the nerve of these things. All right. Here we go. This is the title track from the brand new EP from Deathbells.

Starting point is 00:49:07 Got it. Discover the ultimate cloud gaming machine, a new kind of Chromebook. Marty, you'll scare the fish. We're missing the big football game. Relax.
Starting point is 00:49:20 My VHS home video recorder is taping it right now. Terrific. Stop whining and listen. I hate you. and where you've returned tell me who that was again please sure from their brand new EP called take my spirit now that is death bells with the title track very fancy yeah you know I can't hear any commercial reference the big game oh no the big game are you

I forgot about that one. That was a great one. Yeah. Yeah, that way they don't have to spend, you know, pay money for saying the word NFL or the acro. Exactly. Or, yeah, any other sports league. Yeah, sports league.
Starting point is 00:50:23 All right, you guys, sit down and relax because now this time is this. This is Tommy's room. And he's thinking about his room. Can you guess what he's thinking? I'll bet we can. Well, because he'll tell us. He doesn't make us guess. It's Tom Merritt, everybody. He comes on the show on Wednesdays and talks about the latest and greatest in tech news as he prepares for the daily tech news show, which happens every day. Tom, welcome back. Well, thanks for having me back, both y'all.
Starting point is 00:50:47 Oh, it's good to have you here, man. Always nice to see you. Samsung having a day, right? A lot going on there. Yeah, first Samsung Galaxy unpacked event from Seoul. Oh. So from the homeland of Samsung in South Korea. Now, don't get confused.
Starting point is 00:51:08 The Samsung Lions baseball team does play in Daegu, not in Seoul, but Samsung's headquarters is in Seoul. Okay. Thank you, clarifying. That might have been why I saw the video so early this morning that it took place in Seoul and so that had leaked already here. Yeah. Yeah, it took place at 4 a.m. Pacific 5 a.m. Mountain. So, yeah. A little early, a little late there, you know.
Starting point is 00:51:32 Yeah. The big announcement, these were not. surprising announcements. A lot of the details, as usual, with these sorts of things that leaked ahead of time. And everything is pretty incremental. The Galaxy Z flip is probably, it's not the biggest one. The Galaxy Z fold would be the biggest announcement, but I'm going to talk about the flip first because I think it's the more significant one. That's the smaller foldable that Samsung makes so that you can put it in a pocket pretty easily. It folds over like a flip phone. And Motorola made a big splash earlier this year with the razor. The razor has got a big
Starting point is 00:52:12 3.6 inch screen on the cover. So when it's folded up, you still have a nice big square that you could look at apps. And you only on the flip four had like a 1.9 inch screen. Well, the flip five has a 3.4 inch screen. It's slightly smaller than the razors only because they didn't extend the screen up around the camera, but usable space is about the same on both of these. So now you've got two phones that are like little squares when they're folded, and you can do some stuff. There's some limitations on the apps when they're in that. Not all apps are going to work great on that smaller screen, but you can do a lot on there as full keyboard and all of that. And then if you want, unfold it into a normal candy bar style phone. And the price stayed the same, $999 shipping August 11th.
Starting point is 00:52:56 So this, everybody's, the conventional wisdom seems to be, oh, they're targeting Gen Z. It's the kids, the young kids like the flip phones these days, which I guess might be true. But I feel like a lot of people would like this phone just because it's easy to carry around. Yeah, and that bigger screen when it's in fold mode is definitely an advantage. And I have to say, just looking at it, and Brian and I were talking about it before, it's kind of really rad looking. I like that design or I like that form factor more than the larger folds. I don't, those kind of just seem, I don't know why they,
Starting point is 00:53:26 They seem brittle to me. They seem like they're all going to break. And I know they're not. They got totally agree with you. I have a pixel fold. And every time, I'm getting better, but every time I open it, I kind of cringe. Yeah. Like, like, is this the time it's going to, you know, so, so yeah, I get you.
Starting point is 00:53:43 Yeah, it's a weird thing. But I think this other form factor is great. It might be pulling all my nostalgia strings, because this looks like an old GBA SP, like the old GameBASP. Yes. Yeah. And I love that thing so much. So I think that's part of what's getting me here.
Starting point is 00:53:58 It's nice that the price didn't go up. All those things are good signs. I mean, it'd be nicer if it went down, I guess. But yeah, no, it's good that it didn't go up. So people were wondering if it would go up because, you know, you're adding a bigger screen and all that, but they kept the price the same, at least. And that keeps it competitive with the razor as well.
Starting point is 00:54:14 Was it an English presentation? Do they do closed captioning or something? What was it like doing this in Seoul? Hey, young oh, hell. we don't have any uh yeah they spoke in english oh they they spoke it both it was it was a nor it was the usual presentation okay we was mostly english all right that's interesting i i know i know your next question scott uh sugar from bt s was there but he did not perform good so glad you answer that because that was going to be my question as well stray kids the entire group was there uh jong yung
Starting point is 00:54:46 from twice was there Juan Young from Ive was there I think yeah so Who's the guy that suddenly got a new You were talking about him somewhere on Twitter I think You've mentioned it He's got a new single out Oh yeah Junkuk
Starting point is 00:55:00 Junkuk has the number one song on Billboard That's the guy Yeah with Lato Featuring Lato I don't know anyone Who knows more about K-pop than you Yeah And I don't know why that
Starting point is 00:55:11 I guess what I'm saying is let's go 10 years back And say in our little friend group you know, we're all making a podcast and doing our thing. And if somebody said to me, hey, who do you think's going to be the real expert on this upcoming K-pop revolution? You would not say Tom... Your sister.
Starting point is 00:55:26 Yeah, I wouldn't have said Tom Merritt in any context. So I love that you're there. I love that that's this chair you're on. Sit there and be proud, you know? I thank you. Yes, I will sit right here. Unforgiven. I'm a villain.
Starting point is 00:55:41 Anyway, back to the Korean phone. Yes, please. It's my own fault for bringing this up. I know. The Galaxy Z Fold was the other big announcement. That's their big foldable. Lots of competition on the larger foldables right now. So it was surprising to me that they didn't really change much. 7.6 inch internal display, 6.2 inch front display. I mean, it's an upgraded processor. You almost have to do that. It's got the Snapdragon Gen 2 in there. The flex hinge, so it now lays flat the way the pixel fold does. So it doesn't have that little gap when it's
Starting point is 00:56:16 folded, which is good, but that's kind of table stakes now, too. So I'm very curious how this is going to do. I mean, it's Samsung, so it's going to do fine, but you've got the honor, you've got the pixel, you've got the razor, you got the oppo. Apparently, One Plus is coming with theirs, which will probably be less expensive. That's what One Plus does. So it did not seem like Samsung upped the stakes. They just sort of kept, they did the minimum with this one. It seems like they put more of the energy into the flip. Do you think, I don't know how to say this or how to ask this, is there, do we, do we know of any data that says, oh, yes, phone consumers are looking, they want to go fold.
Starting point is 00:56:58 We want foldable phones. It always felt like a bit of a gimmick that was being sold without the demand. Yeah, yeah. No, the sales numbers for these are low. Well, first of all, the entire smartphone market is slowing down right now. So that's, that's something you have to consider is people just aren't buying. phones in large amounts. The percentage of the phones that they are buying are not foldables. But I guess on the other side of it, you're still selling tens of millions of them.
Starting point is 00:57:25 So it is a growth market that I think all of these companies are saying, once we get the price down, that foldable will become normal. I was a little more skeptical about it, too, until I got one. And now that I have one, I still think it's way too expensive for most people. I would not recommend it for most people. But if you can get a deal on it, which is what I did, I got a deal through Google Fi where I'm getting credit on my Google Fi account kind of pays it off.
Starting point is 00:57:56 You know, it ends up costing me a few hundred dollars instead of the thousand. But I get it now. Like it's nice to just have a regular style candy bar phone and then when I want it, just have a tablet. It's something that, when it becomes regular, people will enjoy.
Starting point is 00:58:17 But it's, I don't know that it's the kind of thing that you should pay extra for yet. It's just not that much better about it. And you do have a little bit of a crease. Like everybody else that gets one, I'm like, you know what? You kind of forget it's there. But it would be nicer and probably convince more people to try it if you get rid of that crease someday. Yeah, that crease going away would be a huge thing. And if, you know, if the entirety of the market, all the Android developers, all, if iOS
Starting point is 00:58:43 or if Apple got into it, like if foldables became... That's always it, right? Once Apple does it, then, yeah. Then everybody's in, right? So if they end up doing one, I mean, I'd be very curious about their take on it. But parts of this feel like touch screen laptops. They were all the rage for a hot second. Everybody had to have a laptop that ran regular windows, but it was touch.
Starting point is 00:59:05 Yeah, I forget. I have a Chromebook that's touchscreen. I forget that it's touchscreen sometimes. Yeah, same. I also do. Yeah, I have one as well. And then I thought, well, will Apple ever follow suit? Because it kind of felt like they were falling behind in that.
Starting point is 00:59:17 I'm like, why aren't you making a touch screen? And they never did. But I don't know that the demand was ever really that high anyway. I don't really want to touch my screen. I mean, I guess I maybe I would. I don't know. But I think you're right. Once you get it, it's like smartphones on my laptop screen without me having to also touch it.
Starting point is 00:59:32 It's like smartphones in 07. You don't know you want it until you play. It's like VR. You don't know you like it until you put it on your head and try it. Yeah. And I do think this is the kind of thing that, won't convince someone to buy a foldable, it's not that good. But if it comes, and, you know, if you're comparing and it's like, well, it's only 50 bucks extra to get the foldable,
Starting point is 00:59:51 probably worth it at that point, right? Because it is, it is nice to have that flexibility. They're getting thinner and thinner. The crease is getting better. If I had to guess, Apple will finally do this when you can do one without a crease. Or where the crease is almost invisible. That'll be their big thing of like, you know, we thought foldables, but who wants that crease. Well, what if we got rid of the crease? The eye fold or whatever they're. Yeah, that's not bad. The eye fold. They should hire Tom for naming. Instead of, you know, Vision Pro, freaking hate that. That's where you get LASIC done. That's not a device. Anyway. And if you get LASIC done, then you won't have to get the little insert. That's right. You can just have it free and clear. Maybe Apple should provide LASIC at the Apple store. Oh, my gosh. Maybe you have to go there for the fitting of the dang thing anyway. So, yeah. Maybe the Vision Pro can do the laser work while it's on your head. How about that? Wow.
Starting point is 01:00:45 That would be something. Yeah, I've really... The Vision Pro MD will actually do your LASIC for you. We've cracked open that egg. All right. Well, Tom Merritt, as usual, today, Daily Tech News show. You'll talk more about this. In fact, today's kind of a big roundup for all things, Samsung.
Starting point is 01:01:00 What's the plan over there? Yeah, we'll be talking about the Galaxy watches and the Galaxy tabs as well. Huen Thuadeau from Android Faithel is going to be joining us. first time having her on DTNS since we kind of co-launched Android Faithful with Ron and Huan. So it's going to be really fun to have her on. And she is full-on Android developer. So you're going to get the Android perspective on this. Someone who loves one UI misses the Samsung one UI since she switched to the pixel fold.
Starting point is 01:01:34 So it'll be very interesting to see. Is there enough here to lure her back to Samsung? Well, you'll only find out if you tune in today at 2 p. Mountain Time. So check that out. Anything else going on in Tom's world that we should know about? You know what? Right now, I'm most excited about Know a Little More. It's coming back on September 6th. So you've got a little time to get in there and get subscribed and check out the back catalog. It's evergreen. All of those episodes are still good because each one just explains a different tech topic. But I just previewed the first episode of this coming
Starting point is 01:02:06 season to a friend of mine. And this is a friend who is very honest with me. me, she was blown away. Oh. And I couldn't be happier. I'm like, ah, I passed the test. So you'll want to be there for the next season of Know A Little More at Knowlittlemore.com. All right. Go check it out, everybody.
Starting point is 01:02:23 Tom Merritt, Ace Detect on that thing and we call X now, I guess. X Detect. No, I haven't, too. X Detect. That's real weird, anyway. Follow him there and everywhere else you can find Ace Detect. We'll see you soon. All right. Let's see if this kills the call.
Starting point is 01:02:39 Nope. All right. Hey, all right. It's always random. I don't know how to pick when it doesn't. You never know. Yeah. Nope.
Starting point is 01:02:46 I have no idea. All right. Nicole and Randy are incoming for some recommendals today. And we're going to go for it. It's going to be great. Here comes the thing. Here it is right here. Well, what do you recommend?
Starting point is 01:03:01 Hey, everybody. We recommend movies and TV. And we do it from the common streaming services so that you people out there can maybe write it down and go watch it yourself. And Brian also puts it up on. QuickTMS.L.I. Which is a very convenient resource. Yeah, I would recommend using that. With us, as always, on a Wednesday, is Nicole Spag. Hi, Nicole. Hello. Remind me to tell you my Tom and K-pop story. Oh, I will, I can't wait to hear it. Also, Randy Jordan, aka Randy Deluxe, is here. Hello. Good morning, morning stream. Remind me to tell you my Brian
Starting point is 01:03:32 Ebbett and nude beach story. Oh, all right. I can't wait for this. I thought we decided we were never going to mention that again, Randy. Photos speak louder than words. Still fishing sand out of places that sand doesn't belong. Gross. Well, good. Hey, well, let's get to it. We're going to do some recommendals before we get to.
Starting point is 01:03:49 I want to hear that Nicole's story before we go today. So we'll definitely do that. Let's dive straight into our wrecks. And we're going to start with Brian. He's got a clip. Brian, what are we doing here? Yeah, this clip will give it away. This will give it away.
Starting point is 01:04:02 I'm not going to try and even hide the fact that this clip tells you what movie I watch. It's something to do with red hot chili by the way. Now. Give it away. Give it away. Give it away. Give it away now. Exactly. But it is a, it's a movie, or I'm sorry, it's a clip that sets up the movie very well, brand new movie. Just about what, four months ago landed on the streaming services. All right, here we go. It all began with a guy named Alexei Leonidovich Pajitnov four years ago. By day, he worked as a programmer for the government at the Soviet Computer Science Center.
Starting point is 01:04:38 But by night, he invented games for fun. His computer, a stone-age Soviet piece of crap called an Electronica 60 didn't even have a graphics card. His falling blocks were parentheses pushed together. Alexi and a couple of buddies from work made the game IBM compatible which meant color graphics, 8-bit music, and floppy disks that people copied and shared for free.
Starting point is 01:05:20 It spread like wildfire. But this is the Soviet Union, remember? Nothing gets out easily. Ah, I bet this is that Tetris movie. Lucky guess, Scott. The music. Absolutely is, yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:40 And I'm hoping that that doesn't get flagged that music clip because it felt like it was an original chippy tune kind of version of it, but we'll see. You were hearing Taryn Edgerton there. He plays a guy named Hank Rogers who works for Bulletproof Software and stumbles at the CES show. I guess that's redundant, CES. he stumbles upon a dude who is showing off Tetris and finds out that they've got rights for everywhere in the world for the game except for Japan where Hank Rogers actually happens to be and he's working on consoles and desktops out there
Starting point is 01:06:26 and wants to see if he can get Tetris licensing rights just for Japan which technically gets it out on NES and things like that. This begins a massive tale of spy and intrigue and sneaking around in Russia where you have to, if you're there for business, you have to declare that you're there for business and you won't be able to go anywhere if you're there for business. So you have to go in as a tourist and then kind of sneakily go and hit up. the business as you want. There's battles between Sega and Nintendo and Atari, and Nintendo shows this weird little
Starting point is 01:07:11 upcoming handheld device that they think might be a good fit for Tetris. I wonder what that could possibly be. You also have, there's not a lot of people in here that you'll just recognize right off the top, you know, right away, except for folks. like Toby Jones, who plays Robert Stein, who is a competing licensing agent for, oh, who does he work for? He works for Microsoft, I think, or he's working with Microsoft. Yeah, that's another person that they're battling with.
Starting point is 01:07:49 Sure. A lot of other people are like, oh, yeah, I think I kind of recognize that guy, but then you've got a bunch of like Russian-looking actors. Oh, yeah, you've got Ben Miles, who was. in coupling, the British show coupling. Oh, I like him. He's cool. Yeah, the crown. He's in a crown for a while.
Starting point is 01:08:08 Anyway, this movie, yes, it takes factual things, takes situations that did indeed happen and maybe polishes them up a little bit, but it's still, you know, I went back
Starting point is 01:08:24 immediately after watching the movie and said, all right, how much of this was actual fact? You know, how much this really happened. And aside from a car chase that is done brilliantly, by the way, I won't even give away the cool thing that they do with the car chase.
Starting point is 01:08:40 Did they drop bricks on cars? I'm not going to tell you what they do with the car chase. I know what happens. There's one long, everyone's waiting for the long car. Limousine to fit it. Yeah. The bus. That's the bus. Yeah. Exactly. No, they don't drop blocks on the car.
Starting point is 01:08:58 I'll just tell you that right now. But aside from that car chase, everything else in this film actually happened, which blows my mind. And yeah, again, like you said, it's polished up to be a little bit more drama-friendly. But the fact that a lot of this stuff is real, even the nucleus of all of these things they show is real. Blows my mind. This is on Apple TV Plus, and it's excellent. Just came out the end of March. And so it's only been out for a couple months. And I'd forgotten about it. I remember seeing the title card for it and saying,
Starting point is 01:09:33 oh, I need to watch that. And then something else shiny got in my face. And I completely forgot to go back until my friend Chris Brown says, have you watched Tetris yet? You need to watch Tetris. And I go with everything that Chris Brown tells me about. I remember when we were teenagers, the story was already kind of this thing of legend, right?
Starting point is 01:09:49 Like it was crazy the origins of what all that was. And nobody was getting paid and Russia part of it and all that. but we never knew any real detail, I feel like. So this is a, this sounds really interesting. It's a good way to get all that, all that history on it and just know that, um, uh, about 10% of what you're seeing is a little, maybe not embellished, but just, uh, painted with a nice shiny coat of, uh, of, of, of, of sensational. Nice.
Starting point is 01:10:18 All right. That's usually how these things work. So that's, yeah, exactly. You go in, you go in kind of expecting these things. Um, the guy who plays, uh, of, Alexei Pajtanov is great, by the way. He and his wife, the actress who plays his wife. They're both really, really good.
Starting point is 01:10:35 Like, it's still around, right? He's still with us, that dude, I think? Alexi Pagetanov, he is, I believe, and I will tell you that they do that thing that we all love in the credits where they show the actual people that the movie is based on. I love seeing what they say, here's the real person and here's this. real event because they actually show some of the things that happened in the film in real with real video
Starting point is 01:11:04 but yeah, Padgetanov is still with us. Nice. Well, there you have it. He's 68 years old. Apple TV Plus is where you'll get this. Yes. Yes. It's called. It's just called Tetris. Is that the name? It's called Tetris. All right. There you go. Do we have a current
Starting point is 01:11:19 good version of Tetris to play? Oh, yeah. Yes. Tetris. What is it? Oh, the name just escaped my brain. Is it the one from the switch that... No, no, no, it's the one... Dr. Mario.
Starting point is 01:11:32 No, that is not Tetris. I'm looking for the word current. Also, neither of those are Tetris games. But so the game you want to play, the best, what does it, would you call it? Tetris Effect. That's it. So it first launched as a VR-only title, then came to just everything and it's non-V-R-No. That's right.
Starting point is 01:11:51 That's what I remember being. Okay, yeah, that was on the play. Well, that's where I played. it was the PlayStation VR, PSVR. It's an incredible version of Tetris. And they added multiplayer. It's so good. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 01:12:03 Oh, no, I guess it was on the quest. The Oculus, that one was the Oculus Quest. I think it may have started PS2 or PS1 VR. Really? Okay. Oh, yeah, certainly did. Yeah. And then came out later on other stuff.
Starting point is 01:12:13 But the version, you just play it on anything now, computer, Xbox, whatever. And it is the most zen-like, chill, wonderful game. That's what I want. Like, over the lifetime of my iPhones, and it's 15 years now, right? There have been a couple of versions of Tetris that came along and people said, you've got to play Tetris on your iPhone. And I've always really disliked the experience.
Starting point is 01:12:35 No, the control is terrible. You need a joystick. Yeah, you need a proper way to play that stuff, man. Cool. On the switch, so that's what I'm going to be looking at. Yeah, that is on the switch, right, that game? Oh, very nice. Yep, is switchy.
Starting point is 01:12:47 100% worth it. Everybody's on the, a lot of people, Dr. Mario. How is that not like a Tetris like game? It's a puzzle game, but it's not Tetris, but it's not Tetris. Yeah. Yeah, it's nothing like Tetris, though. There's no blocks. You're just, your little pills.
Starting point is 01:13:01 Randy didn't ask, what's the best version of Tetris to play? He didn't say, what's the most Tetris light game that's not Tetris. Dr. Mario is good, but it's more like mean bean machine. It's like a weird little matchup the beans thing. I liked it more than Tetris. Oh, look at you. Look at you laying down the godland. Oh, man.
Starting point is 01:13:23 I think I did too, and it's because Tetris paved the way. Like, when you talk about games that I've loved, like Hexick or even Candy Crush, like Tetris really put us all in the right space to love those games. Sure, sure. Yeah. Just stuff dropping out of the sky and then you're trying to match shit up. We owe Tetris a big thanks for all those games. Yes.
Starting point is 01:13:45 Thank you for letting us drop shit out of the sky. That's right. I'm checking right now to see if I have Tetris already on the Switch. I'm hoping I do because I don't want to buy it again, but this would be the place I'd like to play. It's also really good on a big screen. If you can get it on like PS5 version or Xbox Series X version is really cool on a big screen. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:05 Really chill. I just Googled it because, you know, I have a Xbox Series X and I very often I'm surprised at what's on that thing. And Tetris Effect has been there for years. Yeah, it's on Game Pass. Yeah. That's cool. Been there since I think it launched on GamePath. I know.
Starting point is 01:14:20 You know what? It launched actually when it launched in. the 2D screens, meaning not VR only. It was one of those, what do you call it? The Epic Game Store exclusive things. And that annoyed me because I was like six months where they were the only ones that could get it. And it pissed me off. And I'm like, I'm not getting on VR. I want to buy it somewhere else and they finally let go. Those bastards. All right, let's move on to Nicole. Let's do yours. I've got a clip here. And it's not going to make any sense because I may, well, So you sent your thing.
Starting point is 01:14:53 Oh, this isn't what I thought it was. I am so glad you sent this link. Because this isn't what you said. You said Beast. If you go up to her thing, she said Beast on Netflix. So I looked up Beast, which is an Indian film with no English. Oh, no, no, no, no. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:12 She said, she said, C-beasts. Did you say the C-beasts? I'll do C-beasts. She just had it with plural, but that's it. Oh, well, sorry, yeah. I thought you made. I thought you misspelled C. It's my bad.
Starting point is 01:15:24 There's a Netflix movie called Beasts, and it's an Indian movie with no English, and I thought, what the fuck? Then there was also the movie last year that was just called Beast that was about the giant lion that was killing people. Oh, right.
Starting point is 01:15:38 The Idraselba thing. I saw that. Yeah, it's Idriselba, yeah. Yeah, I like that movie, actually. It's pretty good. I'm sorry, we got Tetris playing over here. All right, we will play a bit of this then. I think I have it all cued correctly.
Starting point is 01:15:52 I do. Okay. So here you go. Anything you want to say before I hit play? Mateo picked this out. We're doing family movie nights now. And I remember when this came out. And apparently it was one of the most streamed movies on Netflix, which for me, I was like, how did I not see this? And it's really great. All right. Good. Here we go. Let's check it out. shores and no ship was safe on the sea. But those days are over. Today, valiant warriors battle the beasts far beyond the horizon. You're Jacob Holland, a weapon against nature's darkest design.
Starting point is 01:16:46 And I'm joining your crew. Oh no, you ain't. Hey, put me down, let me go! No, let me go. We'll be off to kill a monster. Oh. You stowed away? I, yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:10 Tell me more about the Sea Beast. This looks awesome. I don't even remember hearing about this. It's like came in with. Yeah, it was 2022 when it came out. It is, um, So I like to watch animated movies and not know who the voice actors are. Oh, really?
Starting point is 01:17:27 Until after the fact. And then I go, oh, my God, that was Carl Urban as the main character. And then you kind of hear it. Sure. The story, yeah, I didn't hear it until I looked at it, looked the movie up. So it is a animated movie on Netflix about, so I will say this. you get a lot of how to train a dragon vibes. Oh, really?
Starting point is 01:17:55 From this movie. I mean, you have to, right? Like, we're in that era. Like, that's just how these movies all end up looking and sounding. And I found myself kind of anticipating the sea beasts, because they're these great sea monsters that are in the ocean. And it's from a time where you can't go anywhere and not have a sea. these attack your ship and so this this lore and legend that you heard in the trailer is passed down
Starting point is 01:18:27 through generation and generation about the sea beast and how there's these warriors that go out and they fight the sea beast and so you follow this little girl who's an orphan and she stows herself away on one of the most um one of the ships that kills the most sea beast basically And they're looking for one in particular, and it's a red C.Bs and just they call them red. So, you know, there's not a lot of creativity in the story, but I still enjoyed it watching it with the family. And I've been really interested to watch my kids react to understanding how stories flow. telling them about there has to be someone in peril, right? In Disney, the mother usually gets killed.
Starting point is 01:19:24 There's that thing that happens in a story to propel the person forward to over, you know, to triumph from whatever obstacle that they're trying to get through. This is the guy, this is the director who did, he directed Moana, he directed Big Hero 6. He wrote both of those movies. Oh, wow. He also wrote Moulon. He wrote Emperor's New Groove. What else?
Starting point is 01:19:52 Yeah, it has a really, I mean, it has a great cast. It has great voice acting. It was a really fun story. It looks like, what is it, seven out of ten on IMDB, 95% of Rotten Tomatoes. So I just was surprised that we missed this, and I was really happy that Mateo had suggested it. Especially with that lineage.
Starting point is 01:20:15 Especially with the lineage of this direction. and writer, I'm just shocked. I haven't heard of this. Like, this is, this is a big, this is a big animation guy. Right. And, and for it to be, I read somewhere that was one of the most streamed movies on Netflix. I'm like, how have I not streamed this movie? Yeah, I bet this one in my list for what seems like months. Yeah. Well, at least you knew about it.
Starting point is 01:20:37 I'm realizing I'm the opposite of Nicole. Yeah. Like, how you get me to the table is you tell me it's got the voice of Jared Harris. Oh my God. I know, right. me it's it the music was composed by mark mancina oh my god i'm i'm absolutely there yeah i got to watch this i really like i mean jared harris can freaking read a phone book to me i'd be happy so i'm all in on that um yeah it looks good uh oh yeah there's the the the the poster has the giant red
Starting point is 01:21:04 face beast and i think there's youtube videos that kind of like say the similarities between um this movie and how to train your dragon because the CB's looks just like toothless. Oh, really? Definitely getting that vibe from it, for sure. Just red and not black. But it's still a wonderful, it's a wonderful movie to watch is like two hours long. So it was definitely a nice one to watch with the kids.
Starting point is 01:21:31 It looks great. Oh, by the way, I'm in the chat room as Mark. I'm working on some videos. You're Mark in there? Awesome. That's not, Mark. That's me. That's great.
Starting point is 01:21:44 don't say anything Mark wouldn't say, I guess. I don't know. Can I quickly tell you my... Oh, yeah, yeah. Go for it. Let's hear it. All right. So are you guys aware that there's now a new season of Beavis and Butthead?
Starting point is 01:21:59 Yes. It's fantastic, by the way. It is absolutely wonderful. Mark and I started watching it. And I don't necessarily... The cartoon part of the show, whatever. It's really them making fun of YouTube videos that I absolutely... Absolutely adorn.
Starting point is 01:22:15 Oh, yeah. So that's what they replaced. They used to make fun of music videos back in the TV. They still made fun of music videos, but they brought in. So they had a girl that was doing ASMR. Yeah. I laughed so damn hard. It was really good.
Starting point is 01:22:29 I'm so hard. Yeah. If you guys are even remote fans of the old Beavis and Butthead in any way, you got to, oh, they're so good. They're so cool. Yeah. But there came up a part of Beavis and Buthead where a K-pop video came on and Beavis
Starting point is 01:22:47 knew all the boy's names and he's like dancing and that's what I was talking to Mark about I go you know who else is a fan that I didn't expect to be Tom yeah he just had a whole conversation about Tom and K-pop Tom and Beavs yeah together
Starting point is 01:23:03 at last so Tom invokes me remembering about Beavis and Butthead and I did want to recommend it to you all because just the YouTube parts alone are funny. Yeah, they're really funny. Even the music videos they do are still them watching them on YouTube,
Starting point is 01:23:20 which is just they so easily went there. They just eased right into it and them making fun of like viral videos. Like I would not be surprised. You know that gang gang girl? Oh, you're driving like a cowboy, that lady, whatever, her whole thing. I don't know if you guys have seen it, that TikTok lady. I guarantee the next season of those Beavis and Butthead things, they will riff on that. And I can't wait.
Starting point is 01:23:41 Oh, my God. Can't wait. It was awesome. The current thing on TikTok live, I don't know if you've saying this, but the current thing that a lot of people are doing is pretending to be an NPC. Yeah, that's that way. And they wear a mask and they tap on the screen. Gang, gang, gang, gang. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:57 And that, it's terrible. Like, it's the, we've hit rock bottom as far as entertainment goes. It's bad. But I just can't wait for people to start making videos about that, like for shows to pick up on it. and show it to us through their lives. No, it deserves to be kind of mocked. It's terrible. I mean, great, whatever.
Starting point is 01:24:19 They're making like $4,000 a day. So good on them, but I can't stand it. It's horrible. If you want to watch the new season of Beavis and Butthead, it's on Paramount Plus. Yeah. And even if it's just to watch them making silly comments about the YouTube and music videos, it's wonderful. Yeah, it's really good stuff. The ASMR one is my all-time favorite.
Starting point is 01:24:41 Yeah. that was a early one too so you'll catch it right away uh all right let's get to uh what do i have next oh i put me next let's do this i'm going to do this one this is a horror movie from 2015 that i'd never heard of a little indie okay it wasn't a major studio or anything but it left me a little shaken and that's a good horror movie for me so here it is i'll play the clip we've warned you not to go into the cities in the cities they are everywhere they're playing is almost complete. If we do not stop them, they will enslave and butcher every good person left on earth. You must prepare for the war. You want to protect your friend, but helping
Starting point is 01:25:26 him will be impossible. He is good. He is still human. But he will not believe you. Leave the city tonight. We still do not know how they infect a host. Never look at their Oh, weird. Oh, God. I love that. The driver. Kevin Driver is great. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:48 Kyler Ren there. I will finish what I started. This is a movie from 2015 called They Look Like People. And I read it on a list. It's not even that well reviewed on IMDB, but I read a list of horror movies that this list thought were overlooked, right? I was kind of in like, well, where are these things and what are they? And it turns out this one was streaming on Tubeby. So I thought, well, I'll go check it out.
Starting point is 01:26:12 Why not? It is an unconventional horror movie, which I always find interesting to try to do something different. And there's this character in this movie called Wyatt, who is visiting his old friend Christian, who lives in New York now. And they grew up together. They're like early 90s kids growing up, and they're kind of reunited. And he crashes at this Christian's apartment. And Christian's got his own little side story. with this girl he's trying to date at work named Mara.
Starting point is 01:26:44 She's played by someone named Margaret Ying Drake. You don't know any of these people, by the way. McLeod Andrews, Evan McDusole, McDowell, McDowchel, whatever his name is. These are not people you know. McDusial. Dushal, sure. The director, Perry Blackshear, again, probably never heard of that guy. But the movie's really well made and is a really slow burn.
Starting point is 01:27:08 And I think the reason it gets lower scores is because by the end, Wyatt, who is the one hearing this voice through his phone, who is being told through secret messages that the world's being taken over by shape-shifting aliens, basically, or creatures. And he's the only one that can do anything about it. You never know whether that's in his head or if he's really hearing it. And the movie never quite tells you for sure. And I think that pisses some people off.
Starting point is 01:27:37 I enjoyed the journey of kind of not knowing. It's not a spoiler to say, well, I guess kind of as a spoiler, you may not get a resolution that you're looking for maybe or a traditional resolution in this movie. But that's why I admire it. It's not afraid to kind of leave me hanging and not in a sequel kind of way. Like they're never going to make a sequel to this.
Starting point is 01:27:58 It was just like kind of an interesting way to present your story and your characters and then leave it at the end and have me kind of go, I'm not really sure where all these people are going to end up, but I kind of liked it that way. Like Blair Witch Project? A little, but not. It's not found footage. It's more like that ending, that ending where you're not quite sure what's going to happen to the characters.
Starting point is 01:28:21 Yeah, like that kind of, except it's even more nebulous. Like you probably will get the feeling at the end. Well, I don't know. Some people will get the feeling at the end that everyone's okay. Other people will get the feeling like, nope, whatever happens after this is going to be bad news for everybody on the screen. And I think it's the juxtaposition of those two extremes that I liked about it. For some reason, you're reminding me of the end of Inception, and I'm just, I'm curious if
Starting point is 01:28:48 you thought this movie kind of earned that. It does, but obviously in a different way. And tonally, it's very different. It's much smaller film. There's like three people in it. It's not a, you know, it's not a big epic thing, like what Nolan created with that. But that feeling at the end of is that. that top tipping over? Did I see it Twitch, you know, when it went to credits to what really
Starting point is 01:29:10 happened there? There is a kind of a feeling of that here. So yeah, I think that's a fair comparison. Very different scope, but definitely a feeling of that. And I don't know, I found it really unsettling and weird. And that's what I want out of a good horror movie, especially one that doesn't take all the traditional paths that most horror movies take to, to thrill you or scare you or whatever. This just was really unsettling and strange. And it's not bloody or gory at all. There's a little bit of blood, but it's not in the way you think. It's kind of, I don't know, it's not the same as goreblood.
Starting point is 01:29:43 It's just kind of plays with your head and plays with the character's heads. And that sometimes is the scariest stuff of all. So I'm going to recommend it. I like, yeah, you may not like it, Nicole. I don't know if I would recommend it to you. Or a lot of the people, anyone that I know who, if you did, okay, let me think of in a comparison. If you didn't like, they're very different movies.
Starting point is 01:30:03 but if you didn't like midsummer or if you didn't like hereditary this is kind of in that vein of let's rip your brain in half and they make you make sense of it kind of brain I read both on Wikipedia
Starting point is 01:30:16 I'll read this one if that's your you know what I love it funny that's a great way to exactly I love that if you have a thing with horror movies you don't like them freaking read the synopsis
Starting point is 01:30:27 that's fine I used to like them I can't do them anymore yeah So I just, I'm so curious about how the story goes. So I just read it on Wikipedia. I'm like, okay. Nothing wrong with that. That works.
Starting point is 01:30:41 Yeah, this character, Mara in particular, they really left a question mark over her in the movie. Almost to the point that in film sack, I would call it a check in the bucket. But it works here. I don't even know how to explain it. I don't want to over explain it because some people are going to really like this. So go check it out. It's on Tubey. It's free with ads.
Starting point is 01:31:00 Although if you watch it with a blockery, you'll never see an ad. So that's kind of cool. That's how I did it. And it's called They Look Like People from 2015. And it's unrated, which means- It sounds like Adam Driver. Yeah. And I think it would have gone straight to like streaming or something because it's
Starting point is 01:31:17 unrated. So I assume that means it never made it to theaters. But the acting's really good. It's not like it's not capable. It's not like a cheap college film at all. It's like a well-made kind of weird thing that I was really impressed with. So anyway, not going to be everybody's cup of tea, but maybe it will be yours. So go check it out.
Starting point is 01:31:36 This is mine. Now let's go to Randy. Randy, what do you got there for your clip here? Any set up here? I just want to congratulate us all because we have just had the biggest week for new entertainment that I ever can remember. I have never experienced a week where new entertainment was this good, this prominent, and this much beloved. And it's just awesome. And so, like, I was thinking, I have to recommend something that's from this week.
Starting point is 01:32:06 That's, you know, so I'm going with the big Saturday experience that we all had. The fact is, 2022 had a lot of awesome new shows. And I think we recommended every single one that I can think of, like, 2020, like, remember severance and peacemaker and rings of power and the bear and Andor and so on. Like, it's just what a year. And this one might have somehow flown under your radar if you, if you didn't see it when it started in 2022. But, uh, it's happened. Second season is happening in 2023 and we, we need everyone to watch it now. All right.
Starting point is 01:32:45 Please. Here's your clip. Una needs your help. Starfleet command found out that she's Illyrian. It was only a matter of time before she was outed. Starfleet will never let an allerian serve not openly, but that is not my problem, Mr. Pike. Now, I really do have a busy day. Nira, I don't know what happened between you two, but she's your friend.
Starting point is 01:33:06 Una Gin Riley is not my friend, and neither are you. Please leave. I know why you feel the way you do best, Starfleet. The Federation, all of us. I saw some things. On a research mission to an abandoned Illyrian colony, we found out that it wasn't so abandoned. I saw what can happen to Illyrians who reverse their genetic modification,
Starting point is 01:33:25 just that the Federation will accept them. them old fears can be hard to let go of but we were wrong about allarians all of us i was wrong congratulations you discovered empathy let me know when the rest of your federation catches up so this is hell on wheels with uh i i specifically wanted to pick a clip that was the most somber i could because the new episode of strange new worlds that just got dropped by surprise on Saturday is a comedy. It's a Jonathan Frick's directed comedy. And like, I was just like, I don't want you to think that's what this show is entirely.
Starting point is 01:34:10 Because I like, I just used the phrase earned it. But Star Trek Strange New Worlds really earned the opportunity to tell a lot of jokes and a lot of visual jokes with a new episode, which is a crossover where characters from lower decks literally. rolly come on to the enterprise it's just like i just like we i recommended it last year i recommended the first season of stranger worlds and somehow remember all those shows i just named somehow it went from not really being in the five best new shows of the year because it was so great to this is the best thing that you can watch period 23 strange new worlds this is the best thing for you and by the way if you love it there's all this other stuff. You get strange new worlds and you get freaking Will Wheaton behind the scenes every week
Starting point is 01:35:05 talking to the people who are making these shows and going in depth. And they're so entertaining. What's that called? The Ready Room is so entertaining. Is this is the full season out yet? No. No, we have three more. We have three more movies to go. Every episode is a movie with this show and I'm out of superlatives please watch strange new world you need fresh batch yeah we're all I think we're all fans we all really like it that's awesome Nicole if you haven't seen Strange New World you should it's back to hopeful awesome trick Mark's watching it I've watched like bits of it oh it's so good it's so good I know I know I know you'd love it you'll be there for you it's their biggest hit if we talk
Starting point is 01:35:52 about us going to Denver Comic-Con and sort of meeting the next-gen folks? I don't know if we did, because I know, I mean, obviously we had plans around that that didn't make it through, and I can't remember if it came up around them, but the... I thought we saw a picture of you guys with, like, freaks in them. No? We did.
Starting point is 01:36:11 Yeah, we saw the photo. Yeah. Yeah, and because I just wanted to do something nice for Mark, and he's like, it makes me incredibly uncomfortable. Oh. But we did it anyway. You did it anyway. Just having celebrities, like take your picture with celebrities like that?
Starting point is 01:36:27 Yeah, I wish I would have just done the autograph because there you can talk to them more, whereas the photo is like, it's just the photo. Don't talk to them, just smile and go. Yeah. So if you've never been to a con before and you're thinking about doing a photo op or an autograph, if you want to talk to the person, do the autograph. at the table. Yeah. Because sometimes they do offer photos at the table, like a selfie. It's like, and they, they start charging for those, but it's all money now.
Starting point is 01:37:03 So if you have a secret lapel camera, could you, can use that? Yes. The answer is yes. Good. Excellent. I love it. That's a great idea. I could have gotten more out of Krusty Space Hands if I just had a lapel camera.
Starting point is 01:37:17 All right. Yeah, I got to stand next to data. Oh, yeah. Yeah, the photo, how's he smell? Can you smell him? What do you smell like? I didn't smell anything. Dang it.
Starting point is 01:37:27 And I had a really good sniffer. I want to know if like the Trek people are just all gross after a day of doing this. They didn't smell, they didn't smell bad. Okay. And if they would have, I would have smelled it. All right. Last year or the year before, it might have been, it must have been last year. At FNX, they had all of the hobbits were there, Sean Astin and all the kids.
Starting point is 01:37:48 and all the kids I didn't know Sean Ashton at the last Nurtacular I went to there was a Utah Comic-Con thing happening and Sean Ashton was there and he was drunk Oh wow
Starting point is 01:38:02 Wow all right I can smell the alcohol on it So for the photo opportunities Last year because COVID you know Awareness was still thing masks were still a thing Right well masks were on the way out But for the photos basically they had where the camera was positioned,
Starting point is 01:38:20 they had a plexiglass wall that was perpendicular to the camera. So you could kind of see a stripe and then you had the people on, you know, the actors and celebrities on one side and then you on the other side. And all you could do is just kind of lean close to the stripe like you were there next to the people.
Starting point is 01:38:42 It's like, well, you might as well just have two separate pictures then. Right. Photoshop them. Yeah, Photoshop them in. That's what we should do. That's what AI is going to do. But I will say, if I had to do, like, you know, the cattle call basically through those photos, I would be probably drunk, too. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:59 Yeah, I would drink. And I don't even drink. I just want to say one more thing about Stranger World. Yeah. So the clip that I just, we just listened to was from the second episode of this new season. It's called Ad Astra per Aspera to to the stars through adversity. Yeah. And the character they were just talking about is number one.
Starting point is 01:39:20 She's just like one of the most interesting. Every character is so interesting. But she's like, there's some really interesting things about number one in this series. And then we get lower decks people in the latest episode. And they are from the future so they know all these, all these stranger worlds folks. And they know something about number one that they're not telling. her because they're from the future they're not going to tell her and you spend the whole episode wondering what in the world they're so freaked out about regarding her and it turns out to be a really funny little sort of like conclusion to the whole thing at san diego comic con they put the conclusion of the thing on a pin and gave it out and uh i'm like looking at the pin on eb i'm about to spend sixty two dollars on a pin from san diego comic on because it's so freaking entertaining. It's just out of this world that people, you know, thoughtful people figured
Starting point is 01:40:22 out that we were going to latch onto this and like it so much that they were, they made a collectible pin in advance and gave it to folks. I'm just glad they're making Star Trek ass Star Trek again, you know? Yes. Yeah. I don't need, I don't need this, you know, I like parts of Voyager, but Voyager is all dower and blah. Yes. And Discovery is like, oh, what's the world ending or the universe ending situation this season that they have to get him get involved yeah and i love the main the second in command guy the alien dude played by uh aru yeah siru is still one of my all time favorite star trek characters like there's a lot to like but this is this is what we really wanted right here this is what we wanted yes we want thing of the week yeah bring it back baby um all right these are all up
Starting point is 01:41:07 on quicktms dot l i already confirmed they're there because brian's a freaking look at you fast as hell look at how speedy you were so don't go to you guys gave me your links early on i appreciate that's true don't go to shit out of luck dot com don't go there all right no no no don't go there you won't find any happiness there but you will find all this stuff there and uh it'll be great to talk to you guys again next week thanks for for hanging with us you two uh Nicole have a wonderful week enjoy yourself it's you too and be and be mark in our chat anytime you want it's fine we're next one to each other Randy same with you uh we'll see you soon

Patreon.com slash TMS is our Patreon.
Starting point is 01:42:16 If you haven't supported us there yet, well, consider it because it's a great way to help your favorite show continue to make podcasts. Yeah, that's right. Patreon.com slash TMS for all the details. Brian, let's play a song to get out of here. Do you have anything in particular? I like that idea. Let's get to this one right here. This one is going out to Sean Stokes, who said, hey, scrunch and bunch.
Starting point is 01:42:36 As I did last year, I come requesting a song for the birthday I share with David Hessex. I have the same birthday. We both had 17ers, me and this day. Yes. Yeah. Yes. So you know exactly. This is from last week, from last Monday.
Starting point is 01:42:50 Yeah. And probably some other people, he says. Last year I dedicated a song to him, but this year is all about me. Anything the covermaster picks would be a great gift. But I love K-pop, girl groups, anime intros, and ska, most of all. Wow. And it's his birthday, so we'll do this. Let's party.
Starting point is 01:43:08 There you go. There you go. I kind of exhausted my supply of K-pop covers, by the way. Just like two, I think I had. P-S., could you please pimp my YouTube channel? I go by Lobert, L-O-B-B-E-R-T. I think we're going to hear a mention at the top of the show, and make Magic the Gathering content, specifically,
Starting point is 01:43:26 Popper Commander, where you just play with Commons. Love the show, though, Sean Stokes. Nice. No, I'm not going to, I'm not going to pimp your YouTube channel. Forget it. Forget it. No, that's L-O-B-B-E-R-T. Or Lobert. Maybe it's pronounced Lobert.
Starting point is 01:43:42 I don't know. Who does? Yeah. All right. Well, you mentioned ska. I can do ska, and I can do some very funky sounding ska. How about a weird ska cover of a strange Italian song? Yeah, speaking of Spanish subtitled things that I really, really enjoyed, money heist, another Netflix series that I think about often.
Starting point is 01:44:06 I go back and I think about that show a lot. and I don't know why, but I really, really liked it. And a common theme, a common song heard throughout that series was a song called Bella Chow, a traditional Italian piece. This is a ska cover of that song right there. Starts out slow, but wait for it for pick it up, pick it up, pick it up. This is the Chango Monks with their cover of Bella Chow. We'll see you guys tomorrow.
Starting point is 01:44:39 One morning, my son's fielita, oh, Bella, chow, Bella, chow, bela, chow, bela, chow, chow, chow. One amazina, my son's fielata, and I've found all invasso. Oh, partichano, portami via, oh, bela-chao, bela-chao, bela-chao, oh, partisan, port-me way, that me sent to moorie. And I'm a moyo, da part-jano, oh,
Starting point is 01:45:26 bella-chao, bella-chao, bella-chao, Chao, chao, chao, and I'm a mojo as a partisan, you may tell you, see fellin. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. And so I'm moyo,
Starting point is 01:45:45 that's partichano, oh, be la, chao, so yeah, so yeah, so I'm sorry, from partichano, you me,
Starting point is 01:45:53 see fell in the sub-muntana, oh, bella, Bye, bye, bye, Ciao, Ciao, So I'll say, the summa, under the obrata
Starting point is 01:46:03 under the obrata oh, bela, hello, bye, and the genties that passeran, me say,
Starting point is 01:46:13 they'll hear of the flower. And this is just a flower of the Patigiano, oh, be lao, be la, chou, chou, chou, chou, chou, chou, chou. And this is a flower, no, partigiano, very for the liberty. Oh, bella, bella, chow, bella, chow, chow, and this a flower of a partisan, a very beautiful,

Starting point is 01:47:59 Morto for the liberty And this flower of a partisan Oh, Ciao, Ciao, And this is a phoeneciano Mordichano,
Starting point is 01:48:15 Moldovena Mordinian Morda Pondinjano, most for the liberty Hey, baby. Get more at frogpants.com. I'm sorry that I shat in a church.
