Starting point is 00:00:00 Ever hear of the Tallador effect? Me neither. But I know this. You should support TMS today at patreon.com slash TMS. Coming up on the morning stream, Habernath Maddington. Forever Cooter.
Starting point is 00:00:13 Low key is low key, Loki, low key. Stop, or my mom, Car 54 will shoot. Committee forms semblance of a plan. Black Snake Wednesday. Jurassic Jumanji? It tastes like Lindeloff.
Starting point is 00:00:24 We want Beaver justice for Cooter. That song's about a lady part. The ghost from the TV show, Dosts. Bob Crackett. No games. Till Dispatch. Dispatch.
Starting point is 00:00:35 I don't like days of doom. The Department of Money with Tom and more on this episode of The Morning Stream. And here is a picture of little cute little Pikachu, and his little satanic tail is really a wreck. His tail. It's the Satanic Z. Magneto. Magneto. Magneto.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Magneto. The Morning Stream. If you have job, you wear the pants. Hello and welcome to TMS. This is the morning stream for August 12th, 2000 and 26. I am Scott Johnson. That is Brian Abbott.
Starting point is 00:01:22 Right here, everybody. Yep. Look at him. You've been waiting. Right there. Wait. Watch him as he stands. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:29 There is. Yeah. I always forget this film's reversed. I know. I've got to do this to point to you. though it's annoying when i look it's the opposite way yeah that's annoying but i know why they do it because otherwise it would it would be reversed to the listeners right right right exactly all right well we're grateful for the way technology works thank you thank you tech thanks tech you're the best
Starting point is 00:01:50 uh hey i got a i got an early recommendation for this show cool and it's it's for you as much as it is for the listeners because i just know you're going to love this okay um the new hotness right now in the chore core world you know i like the chore core i know you do you like cleaning those walls and taking apart those space stations yep well now how about some playstations um that's perfect use that word is it rhymed uh it is uh a game called restory is how you would say it uh it's not restery no it's not restory it's called restore the full name is restory or you know it's like restore but a story chill electronics repair and it's mostly i say electronics but it spends a lot of time with like
Starting point is 00:02:35 stuff from the 90s that you would know. So instead of a Tomogachi, they call it an egogachi, but it looks exactly the same. And the PSP is called a PMP. Yeah, a noni PMP. It's funny because all the Atari stuff
Starting point is 00:02:52 is just straight up Atari. Oh, really? Yeah, they got the rights to just say it. So it's just like Atari 2600 or Atari 260 controller or whatever. There's like these main board. even do guitars at one point as you just saw there. Game Boy.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Really cool, actually. I do love taking apart electronics. So this does seem kind of fun. Yeah, it's super fun. So you get these quests and it'll go, the quest will be like, or you know, it's an order, you get these orders. And the order will be like, I need my,
Starting point is 00:03:22 you know, first gen iPod, although they give it a different name. And you're in Tokyo, I should mention that. So this is like a little shop in Tokyo somewhere. And then the request will be, I need it cleaned and repaired or just clean. or cleaned repaired and then custom painted or whatever you have these requests and then you have this little CRT crappy looking 90s monitor computer next to you and during the workday when you're
Starting point is 00:03:45 like oh shoot I don't have enough parts for this DS I'm replacing the top screen that got burned out I need to order more you just you pull up this fake browser it's like it's like a fake Firefox name you click on you know you order the part the parts shows up from this courier you put the parts in, you put it back, you make your money, you keep going. And you unlock new tools, new, new licenses to do different products like that, that notebook is a, is a late game thing that you just saw there. Okay. Oh yeah. Anyway, it is so freaking good. That's funny. It sounds quite. It sounds sweet and quaint. I'm just going to invent a brand new word called quite. I like it. But I mean, this game, very, say it very carefully, by the way, people.
Starting point is 00:04:30 I always say quique carefully. But this game, this game makes up a lot of, fake names, you may as well make up a fake name too. Oh, there's a screen series of your order your parts. It looks like eBay. Like, yeah, exactly eBay, yes, right. It's really, really good, and it's currently at overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. As far as I know, this isn't anywhere else yet. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:49 So it's the place to get it. But it is on Mac, so that's cool. Oh, yeah, it runs great on a Mac. Tried that out. Obviously runs well on PC, and it runs really well on Steam Deck natively, although the controllers stuff's not exactly optimized, and they say they're working on that, they're going to get a build out that'll take advantage of that. But for now, it's mostly kind of a mouse-friendly deal. Yeah, which is fine with me. Yeah. It's very, very good,
Starting point is 00:05:14 Brian. I'm not touching it. I mean, I'm very tempted just to add it to my wish list right now, but nothing until dispatch. That is my, that is my promise to myself and to Tanner and to everybody else listening, Warped Forge, I know is eager for me to get to dispatch. So that is, that has to come first. I like this. You got a little dispatch priority there going on. I do. Exactly. I mean, it was my favorite game of last year. So I will not talk you down from that tree. You need to play it. It's good. Totally. You know, it's like, all right, Pocopia's there for when I'm doing coverville and and stuff like that. But I do want to get to dispatch quick. Yeah. Get to it quickly. Yep. I bet you're going to love it. All right. So again, for those who miss the name, it is Restory. You'll hear me gush about this on
Starting point is 00:06:00 core this week as well. I freaking love this thing. I think John played a ton too, which is rare for him. He's not really a chore core guy. So, you know, must mean it's good if somebody like John's playing it. Exactly. Yeah. That's high praise right there. And then I got this, I don't know what this says about me necessarily. I'm in bed, you know? Uh-huh. And I'm dreaming. And this never happened to me before. So I sleep with my watch because my watch is my gentle wake-up alarm.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Oh, really? It taps you on your wrist. Does a little... Do you get up at a different time than Kim then? Roughly, we get up roughly the same time, but for whatever reason, we just both have alarms. I don't know why. So she got up way earlier than me today because she was helping Nick with something before he had to go to work. But I'm just like, you know, chilling.
Starting point is 00:06:54 And it's about mindset, mindset to go off at 630. So I'm having a dream. I don't remember the dream. The details are fuzzy. I was with people. I know that. And it feels like it was maybe family, maybe friends. But the details are super fuzzy.
Starting point is 00:07:08 But here's what I remember, like, vividly from the dream, that my watch is ringing and it won't shut off. Okay. And in the dream, I'm going, what the hell's going on with my watch? I'm pushing all these buttons. I'm swiping stuff. I'm pushing the, what do you call it, dial, the crown. The crown.
Starting point is 00:07:24 Doing that, pushing the other thing. Like, taking it off my wrist, putting it on. In the dream, it's just going, and it won't stop. And I'm like, what the hell is wrong with my watch? And then I wake up. Like 30 seconds into this thing going off incessantly, it's suddenly now I'm waking up and realizing, oh, it's the alarm.
Starting point is 00:07:44 That's never happened before where it integrated into the dream. Usually your body is trained. It's like, yep, as soon as you hear that sound of the alarm that you know or feel the, you know, the tap on your wrist that you're comfortable with that you're familiar with, then you immediately wake up in this case. No, it was actually very strange to have it do this instead. How late did you stay up last night? Kind of too late.
Starting point is 00:08:08 I was probably pretty tired. I think it was about 1130. I may or may not have been playing Restory in bed with my Steam deck. Oh, that feels like a perfect Steam Deck game. Man, you're kidding. Yeah, that's why I'm excited about there. Right now, the joystick just moves the cursor really slow for mouse control. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:29 They're going to fix it. So that's coming. But anyway, so I feel this thing. Here's the best part of it, though. Yeah. Don't have, if you can help it, don't have a room that you sleep in and you wake in where there are circular objects in the room. And here's why. So Kim has this mirror, this round mirror that's currently not hung on the wall.
Starting point is 00:08:54 She's trying to decide where to put it. So right now it's rested against the wall. across from my bed, just laying kind of tilted up against the wall. That's probably about this big. Okay. I wake up, bleary-eyed after this dream where my watch won't shut up,
Starting point is 00:09:08 and I realize, oh, it's my watch. My first thing in my vision is this circle, and I reach out to nowhere with my arm and try to swipe the circle that is, I'm thinking it's my watch where I'm supposed to hit either snooze or the little, you know, you're done. And instead, my hand, my arm is, you know, under the pillow and I'm reaching out the side of the bed trying to poke this mirror. And I suddenly become very self-aware that I'm doing
Starting point is 00:09:39 this. Uh-huh. And I'm, I'm, I'm never done this before. I'm laughing out loud in the bed. Yeah. No one's there to hear or witness it. Kim had gone. Sure. Carter's in the other room. I don't know where the dogs are, but I just start laughing because who the hell does that? Who starts poking Poked in mirrors. Yeah, and it wasn't reflecting me, so it wasn't looking at me. It was like aimed, you know, the way it was angled, it just was a circle.
Starting point is 00:10:05 But in my bleary open eye vision of just coming out of the stream, it looked like the thing I needed to push to turn it off. I feel like there's some video game in here. It's not just the watch. It is like, you know, all right, wake up. Oh, start the new day. Open the blinds. Get out my screwdrivers and my,
Starting point is 00:10:24 fixing tools and click that to open the PlayStation that I need to fix. I hadn't consider it, but you might be on to something there. There might be something. Because mechanically, that is, you know, that's what I went to bed with. Yeah, yeah. And as Wendy's always reminding us, we shouldn't be doing that. No, for sure. That blue light plus, you know, HDR on this device.
Starting point is 00:10:45 You know, I'm guilty. I sit there and I watch a, I've been watching Avengers, what I was it called? Avengers Assemble on Disney Plus, 30-minute cartoons. the fun of it is that it's you know it's all of your your typical MCU Thor Hulk Iron Man Black Widow etc but they bring in like villains that you haven't seen the movies yet like the Masters of Evil or I guess we've gotten we did get a little bit of a tumo with Wakanda Forever or did we do we get a tuma? I don't know I don't remember I never saw the second one so I'm not maybe it was there
Starting point is 00:11:22 yeah you need to that's that's uh that should be one of the top of list things, especially to watch before Doomsday, because Namor is going to be in Doomsday. It's going to be integral, and their interaction with Shuri and the Black Panthers, stuff like that. I kind of have a semblance of a plan, a concept of a plan. Do you? Okay, tell me your committee-form discussion to draw on the whiteboard,
Starting point is 00:11:50 the possibility of forming a committee to start coming up with a plan. We've got some real synergy. We're going to table this, though, till next meeting. But no, I've got a list, and it's basically, I'm trying, what I need to do is go, I'm going to send it to you first because I kind of want to get your advice on chronological stuff. Yeah. But the movies I've missed, and then some I've seen, but maybe will be valuable to insert in. Sure, sure. But I think I've got enough of an idea what to do before, you know, December rolls around.
Starting point is 00:12:18 Yeah. That's the year. That's the month, right? Or is November. Yeah. December, no, December is, we get the, you know, December. We get the, I can't remember when we're supposed to get end game. Because those tickets haven't gone on sale yet either for.
Starting point is 00:12:29 Oh, Doomsday? I don't know. No, not Doomsday. I've got my ticket for Doomsday, but they're bringing back Endgame, Avengers Endgame with a new ending that leads into Doomsday. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah, the talk is that it's, and again, rumor, this is not spoiler, because nobody knows, except for the Rousseau's, but is that we're going to get some,
Starting point is 00:12:51 what did Steve Rogers do to return the crystals back to or the infinity gems back to their locations? Yeah, I'm curious about that. Yeah, so it's going to be interesting. So, and it's funny because I actually rewatched a lot of the phase two stuff while I was in Vermont just as like,
Starting point is 00:13:13 all right, here's a little piece of home that I can bring with me while I'm alone in this big house in Vermont. And so I watched everything up to and including Infinity War and end game. And now it's like, well, I guess I'm going to watch that again, but that's fine. I'm fine with that. Sure.
Starting point is 00:13:28 They're great. Yeah. Ain't nothing wrong with any of that. No, no, not at all. So, yeah, I mean, Black Bear, Wakanda Forever, 100% needs to be in your list. It's definitely. You know, I'd recommend a rewatch of Loki because that is the key, but that's a lot of time to commit to a rewatch of something. Are you saying Loki is low key the key to?
Starting point is 00:13:50 Low key is low key the key. All right. Sweet. I'm into it. I've seen Shang-chi. I've seen, like, that's the thing. I'm trying to, a lot of stuff I have seen, and I'm pretty retentive on what I've seen. I just, there may be one or two things where it's like,
Starting point is 00:14:06 it would make sense. Something may roll per, like you're saying with Loki. I have seen that. But having that roll right into things, maybe a refresher on that would be smart. The Marvel's, at least the stinger, the very end and the stinger, is going to be, it rolls right into,
Starting point is 00:14:23 or it connects to what we've seen in the, um, the trailer for Doomsday. So that's a possibility, uh, something to watch. I should just watch it because I like all them ladies. That's okay if it's average.
Starting point is 00:14:33 I don't care. They're all really good. And it's just, again, Marvel is great at coming up with deep, superhero characters with conflicted ideas and personalities and stuff like that. And then they say,
Starting point is 00:14:47 uh, villain? Yeah, how about just angry, angry lady with a lot of power. Let's just do that. Yeah. A little too simple.
Starting point is 00:14:54 So, yeah, it's a bummer. But yeah, I'll pass that through you before I do it. Yeah. I mean, you haven't seen it. Oh, no. Did you see Eternals? No, still haven't seen Eternals. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:04 That was more like a good lead into Thunderbolts because of the giant. Oh, right. Yeah. That was one thing I was, when I'm watching Thunderbolts, I went, oh, shoot. I bet I'm get some eternal shit that I should. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:17 And I'm not opposed to seeing Eternals. I know I know everybody's like, oh, it's the worst thing. And some people are like, no, it isn't. It's unfairly maligned or all that. Whatever the case is, I just, I feel like I want to see it for me. Yeah, I want to see it. It is an absolutely beautifully shot movie. And did they keep the scene in where Carrington poops in a bucket in a van?
Starting point is 00:15:40 Did they keep that? Yes, they did. They kept that, yes. Fantastic. I'm in, dude. Let's go. Don't, don't miss that. They repeat it for the stinger, the mid- credit.
Starting point is 00:15:50 They don't even do a new one. They just repeat it. Same shot of his poop in a bucket. No, it's a beautifully shot film. And I don't think, I think if anyone from that is going to carry over to
Starting point is 00:16:02 to doomsday, it's going to be Kit Harrington or the other Stark or the other Game of Thrones. Rob Stark.
Starting point is 00:16:18 yeah maddington Habernath maddington Habernath mannington exactly Chad what is it it's something like that now batting for Cincinnati Habernath mannington Richard Madden maybe Richard Madden did I get it right
Starting point is 00:16:35 I think you did get it right okay I knew it was in there somewhere was something I like him a lot I like the name Habernath Madington I feel like that's oh that's great get the brothers back together the brothers all right Guys, it's time. It's time.
Starting point is 00:16:52 You came for it. We're here for it. Here it is. Look who it is, everybody. It's Brian Dunaway here to play a game with us. Hi, Brian Danyway. What's going on? Oh, hi, Scott and Brian.
Starting point is 00:17:08 How's it got to listen to you. Sexy. This is a good, I like this. You know what sounds like it's like 80s FM radio. Yeah. Like you're about to lead us into the next Wang Chun track. You're the guy on. You're the guy that's on before.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Dr. Demento, right, right before doing all the local like classic rock or whatever, and then you're about to check out and let Dr. Demento in. It's going to be a hot one out there today. Yeah, dude. Listen to you. There it is. It's totally weird. All right. Well, it's good to have you back also.
Starting point is 00:17:41 I don't hear Echo this time. So that's also good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Very good. Yeah. I installed everything. Literally, I reset the whole system. That's a typical done away thing to do. I don't know. That's what Dunaway does sometimes. He's not. He takes this kind of shit seriously. If something's going wrong. Wipe it and start over, man. Yeah, like a scorched
Starting point is 00:18:00 earth, like rebuild. Yeah, I love that. The technology betrays me. It's on, baby. Let's go. That's right. Take it. Well, we're going to get to this game. Brian, Ibbott's going to explain how this game works, and who might win what. Sure, it's time to play the tadpooly feud. I've surveyed the tadpull on some quite and nerdy topics, and Scott and Brian will have to predict the answers that they gave us. It is Scott and Brian's job to see how many of those answers
Starting point is 00:18:23 they can guess. At the end of the game, we're going to add up all the points, the winner will actually be winning prizes by proxy for their listener contestant. We've pulled contestants from our supporters on Patreon at patreon.com slash TMS. Become one if you want prizes because that's the way it happens. Scott, you're playing for Mike Pacholic. Yeah, we love Mike. Mike's the best. We do love Mike.
Starting point is 00:18:42 We do love Mike. We know what, it's easy to see what Mike's love language is. It's getting us weird crap to eat on our desk. Yeah. Weird rad shit on the door stop. For sure. Yep, for sure. Love it.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Brian is playing for Justice Beaver. So don't... Just as Beaver. Whatever you do, don't break the law in Hazard County. You're going to have to face Justice Beaver. Couter just passed too. That made me sad. Yeah, the actor to play Cuder on Dukes of Hazard, which I didn't know this when he quit being Cudor.
Starting point is 00:19:11 Wasn't that the dog? He never stopped being Cudor. No, Cooter was the... That was flash. You're taking a flash. Yeah. Oh, Flash. Cudor was the mechanic in town.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Yeah. And he went. on after he quit that, he had a couple more gigs and then he went into politics. Yeah. And then went to obscurity for the rest of time. Chase his name, no longer, no longer Cooter. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:35 Oh, gaming savant is Justice Beaver in the chat room. I did not know that. Very cool. Very nice. Here for the, no pressure. You know. Gaming savant, is that just another alias or is that your real name or is part of that your real name? Because it is a fantastic name. I want
Starting point is 00:19:50 I want Justice Beaver behind the, the gavel. Oh, yeah. I want a photo. So not justice for beavers. Justice Beaver. Just this beaver. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:02 We want this. I want this. Justice Beaver's about to get in here and take care of the case. Oh, it's a reference to the office. I didn't remember that. Okay. All right. No memory of that.
Starting point is 00:20:13 No, not all. But that's like a Rain Wilson deal. Like it goes back to the farm or something. Yeah. Or something like that. That's ringing a bell. Anyway. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:23 All right. Let's get to the game. Put your, uh, you done? I think he's close. You done? I feel like, I feel like he's close. I had it finished up. Yeah, I'm good now.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Yeah, you know, that song is about a lady part. Let's get to the game here. Put your hands. Put your hands on your buzzers. And get ready to answer this. We asked 455 tadpoolers. Who is your favorite ghost from TV or movies? Scott.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Patrick Swayze. from ghost. All right. Shut up. Get out of here. You're out of here. Uh, ditto. Oh, please be on there.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Okay. Number four, Sam Wheat. All right. Don't know why you could easily do this. Everybody knows. Yeah, go ahead. Everybody knows the right answer is a slimer. Even though he's not really a ghost.
Starting point is 00:21:17 But you know that's what the tadpole said. What is he? He is a ghost. He is an apparition? He's a ghost. Is it an apparition of ghost? I thought they were inter-swappable. He did not exist as a, is a, yeah, no, no.
Starting point is 00:21:29 The ghost doesn't have to be something that died and came back, right? Oh, my God. Do you want emails? Do you want emails? I'll bet we, I'll, you know what? I'm with Ibitt here. These are, this is new information for me. I thought ghosts and apparitions were interchangeable,
Starting point is 00:21:43 and I also thought he was just a form of a, he was like semi-translucent. He had to do. Yeah, so let's just wait and find out. All right. I ain't afraid of no, not ghost, apparently. apparently. Show me slimer. Number two, Brian gets control the board,
Starting point is 00:22:02 but Scott does go under those with more points. So there's that. What do you like? Team Johnson over here. Well, look. I like him. Monica, I like to Monica because no brain is right. Yeah, no brain.
Starting point is 00:22:14 I think she means Brian, and now she has to specify which Brian. Because we don't know which Brian is right. Exactly. Because each Brian had a different opinion. Yeah. But I, maybe there's a whole, maybe there's a whole thing with that. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Maybe. Yeah. All right. All right. Brian. Well, I mean, Casper's got to be up there. I mean, the first thing I thought, you said ghost was Casper the friendly ghost. Probably number one.
Starting point is 00:22:38 Oh, sure. Yeah, people love Casper. Who did the voice for Casper? Was it McCulley Culkin? In the movie? In the movie? In the movies, there was two, right? And was it McCulkin and both of them?
Starting point is 00:22:51 I don't remember. It was that Black Snake Mone girl. minute. What's her name? Oh, my God. Are you serious right now? I love her name. Christina Ricci. Ritchini Ritchie. Yeah, I like her. I like she's the Black Snake Mone Girl and not our original Wednesday or not even original our 90s Wednesday. It's the first thing that came to my head. Yeah. It's a little like Patrick. She's like Patrick Swayze. Just popped in. It was like not going to be the best answer,
Starting point is 00:23:15 but it's all my brain would do. Hey, I've been poking at circular mirrors all morning. Yeah, a good point. Good point. All right. Show me, Casper. Number one answer. Yep, you got it.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Man. Still don't have as many points as Scott. Oh. But why are you, why you were, why you're bringing, why you're, what is,
Starting point is 00:23:38 what is up with that? Does it sound like preferential treatment? Yeah, it sounds a little bit. It sounds like, still not as much. I mean, if you said,
Starting point is 00:23:45 Scott's still on the board. I'd be like, okay, that's cool. I love it. This is what we call Classic. Mac Talk, yeah. That's right. Monica says,
Starting point is 00:23:53 Devin Sawa did the voice for Casper. Okay. I don't know who that is. Okay. Okay. It's a person. I'm sure it's a person. Yeah. Yeah, I'm sure it is. Yeah. All right. Then how about I'm going to say, well, do I say Allmet once or
Starting point is 00:24:09 just one? I'm going to say Inky is, I'm going to say Inkey's my favorite. Oh, that's good. There's Blinky, Pinky and Clyde or the pack ghost. I'll bet the house will give you a break on that if it's one of the specific Pac-Man ghosts for sure. You do see
Starting point is 00:24:25 that it is who's your favorite ghost from TV or movies, right? Well, I've seen it. I've seen several TV. I've seen several Pac-Man TV shows. There's actually a cartoon. But yes, by all means, continue to favor Scott today, Mr. Ibbott. You know what this is? Smack-Tuck. That's what this is. It's Smack-Tock.
Starting point is 00:24:46 It's just pure smack-talk. Did I do something to you in a dream or something? Jesus. All right. Show me the video game ghosts from Pac-Man, which, yeah, I guess have been on TV once or twice. Once or twice, a whole bunch of times. I know.
Starting point is 00:25:02 The Saturday morning pack attack. Wasn't like a whole block of shows that had like... They had stuff back in the 80s. They have had stuff more recently. They've been, yeah. The cartoon was legitimately bad. And they were in... And they were in pixels, the movie.
Starting point is 00:25:16 Oh, yeah. That's true. I guess it wasn't, and it's not Namco that got, that has now the... big movie licensing thing because it's Atari, right? Because they're going to bring Pong and Adventure and a bunch of different games to the big screen. Yes. And you know which one they, Pong.
Starting point is 00:25:32 You know which one did not get mentioned? And I don't understand why. Freaking Tempest. Yeah. Right. Tempest, you could do a story. Yeah. You could do a story.
Starting point is 00:25:40 They're bringing Yara's Revenge, Adventure, and Pong to the big screen. Okay. Adventure, Yars Revenge, and. Sorry, which one? Oh, Tempest. They all have DNA. that you could build a story around. Easily. What are you doing?
Starting point is 00:25:53 Unless Pong is a total joke, what is that about? That's terrible. That's just tennis. I mean, what, but when you think about it, adventure, you know,
Starting point is 00:26:02 there's not a lot there. No, you'd have to build the whole thing, right? Yeah, it's like, all right, three dragons you have to kill
Starting point is 00:26:07 and then carry this pixel all the way from the catacombs to the front area so you could see Robinette's name on the other side of this wall. Good luck Atari with this one. I don't think it's going to work.
Starting point is 00:26:19 That's right. anyway. So you got a buzzer. I guess it's my turn here. Yeah, yeah, it's your turn now. I mean, it doesn't matter. You got, you got more points than me. Scott, can I, can I offer you any hints? Yeah, you can offer a hint. What? He's kidding. He's joking.
Starting point is 00:26:35 He was really, man, one more of these. Smack tough. All right. All right. I'm going to go with, uh, oh, I just had one and it left me. Um, oh,
Starting point is 00:26:49 Oh, shit. All right. Let's do, um, I had one. Where did it go? Was it Patrick Swayze? No. You've already done that one. Oh, I know.
Starting point is 00:27:04 The, the one that's, um, takes over the car. Uh, it's old, though. It's like before my time. It's car, right? You mean the car, right? No. Not car. Not, no.
Starting point is 00:27:18 I don't remember the one car. Oh, you're talking about. My mother of the car. My mother the car. Because isn't that the ghost of his mother is in the car? That's right. That's right. Who's the guy?
Starting point is 00:27:29 It wasn't Ray Walston, right? That was on TV. No, that's my favorite Martian. Oh, yeah. Was it Bill Bigsby? No, Bill Bigsby was another, he had another sitcom too before my favorite. Oh, yeah. Ricky Nelson?
Starting point is 00:27:43 Oh, was it? Ricky Nelson that had, anyway, all right. Ricky Nelson. It's so old. I just like, freaking don't remember. The same thing happened in except it was squirrels. Yeah. Oh, no, you know who it is?
Starting point is 00:27:53 It's the guy that says, I wouldn't go up there if I were you in Pet Cemetery. Fred Gwynne. Fred Gwynne. Really? Was the My mother the car guy? Wasn't he? Or was that? I thought it was car 54.
Starting point is 00:28:04 That is what that is. Never mind. My mother. My mother. You're totally right. You're totally right. I can't. Stop her.
Starting point is 00:28:11 My mom. The car 54 will shoot. Yep. All right. Show me my mother the car. All that for nothing. And not even. then the,
Starting point is 00:28:22 nobody submitted that one. I don't, I mean, that was a very bad attempt on my part. I think it's pretty good. Well, now you're on my side. Now everyone's on my side. All right.
Starting point is 00:28:34 Hey, Dunaway, what do you got? Well, Brian, you got anything from this millennium? Nice. Now,
Starting point is 00:28:42 now I feel a little better. Good. Equal opportunity. Smack talker. Yeah. All right. That's pretty good. That's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:28:48 I kind of want to hit the, there's a whole bunch of them. um in the harry potters they hang out while you eat and they also hang out in the bathroom i love moaning myrtle the best i don't i don't know if that would be as popular i'm on her only fans page yeah as popular is now i've given scott one uh how about nearly headless nick i think oh yeah he's pretty great more popular all right yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah show me uh john cleese as nearly NIC. Yeah, number three.
Starting point is 00:29:25 Damn, hired and I thought it would be. Yeah, he got six points to Scouts four. That's crazy. Now I can't decide if I want to try to be smart asses like the Tadpool, who probably said stupid crap like ghost rider. They might have. I mean, he is technically. Yeah, it's complicated. Isn't his name?
Starting point is 00:29:51 is in his name. It's complicated. I think the temple said ghostwriter. There I said it. All right. Okay. All right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:58 Yeah. Yeah. Show me ghost writer. Oh, man. Still was up there. Number 20 was ghost writer. So people did say it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:11 I mean, I'm tempted to take Mowing Mertle, but I want to do some form of the Marley's where Marley on Marley. That's smart. Just say that. Just say that. Marley. Marley. That's a good answer.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Show me Marley and Marley. Yeah. But only you can't have one without the other version. Yeah. That's why I love the Muppet one. Because there's only one Marley and the other versions of the. That's right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:38 And why I love that so much is it has completely broken me. I see any other adaptations. Like that upcoming, I'm sure that new Johnny Depp one actually looks interesting. I'm excited about it. But there's not going to be one Marley again. and I'm going to go, where's the other Marley? And my brain will go, that's a Muppet movie, dumbass. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:56 I can't help it. All right, I feel good about this. Now I'm going to say Mowing Mertle. Get her on there. Okay. Get Mowing Mertl up there. Show me Mowing Mertl. Brian, I don't know why you threw it out there and didn't say it yourself.
Starting point is 00:31:10 You should use that instead of your... I just felt like it was just no way that Mone Mertl was going to be up there. I have number eight, big points for that one, by the way. Dang it. Yeah, Scott now with 21. one. Good job. See, now we're in territory of just things I like.
Starting point is 00:31:26 Sure. Sure. I'm going to go with, oh, it's had a bad idea. It might be. All right. I love SpongeBob and I love the Flying Dutchman. So I'm going to say the Flying Dutchman. That's good. Who does it? Who does it? It's Bill Murray's brother. Brian Doyle Murray.
Starting point is 00:31:45 That's it. That's it. I love the Mayor and Groundhog Day. All right. Show me. Flying Dutchman. Damn it. Interesting. Not enough millennials in there voting. No, apparently not.
Starting point is 00:31:57 That one did come up. Nope, just one. One person said playing benchman. Just one. I see you. Wherever that is, I see you. I'm with you. Favorite ghost from TV?
Starting point is 00:32:10 I got two. Oh, shoot. And I'm way behind, right? I'm so far behind. I'm so far behind. You're far behind, but you get two of these and you're all of a sudden you're caught up. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:22 So I don't have to hit to the chat room. I only got one guest list. All right. I have a couple in mind. I'm going to lose either way, so it doesn't matter for talking about. Space Ghost. Oh, yeah, dude. All right.
Starting point is 00:32:36 All right. I get unnaturally excited about space ghost. I love space ghost. The real one and the parody are two of my favorite things in the world. Yes. But I got it. All right. Is there any way that I could pull ahead and then because Scott could hear this next answer
Starting point is 00:32:52 because I really want to get this one. All right. Space Ghost. All right. Okay. Show me Space Ghost. Oh my gosh. I didn't want you to talk yourself out of going there because it was a 10-pointer.
Starting point is 00:33:02 It's the biggie right there. Right. Oh, and I didn't say it right, though. It's space ghost. Exactly. Space Ghost. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:33:09 Then I'm going to go with Obi-Wan Canobeeby. Oh, there you go. Force Ghost. Sure. He's also a space ghost, really. Yeah. That's true. He has a space ghost.
Starting point is 00:33:19 That's a fact. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like slime. I felt like that was too. clever to get a good point, so I was scared about that one. See how you do. You like how he can go anywhere, too. Like, you know, sometimes ghosts are just rooted
Starting point is 00:33:29 to like, you know, the place where they died or that whole area. But no, we saw them on we saw them on Endor. We saw them on Daegobah. We saw him everywhere. He was on Hawth going Luke. Right. Yeah, he hung out in this, I guess you never see him in the X-wing, you just hear him. Yeah, you just hear him in there.
Starting point is 00:33:46 But that's the best part is a guy can go wherever he wants. Yeah. It's not cold. He's not hot. He's not, he doesn't need to breathe or eat or pee or poo? It's great. He doesn't have to. He doesn't need to, but he likes to. He likes to. All right. Show me Ben. Ben Kenobi. I think my uncle knew him. Oh, Ben Kenobi.
Starting point is 00:34:06 Oh, and we all the tie. Shit. Number five answer, 21 to 21. You guys just love making my life harder by doing tie games. All right. Oh, my gosh. Okay. Oh, I want, no. Now, now I, don't know. Now I'm kind of, how about, um, uh, uh, uh, I see dead people. And one of them is Bruce Willis, but I can't think of a stupid name for some reason. Um, my favorite ghost is Bruce Willis. All right. Sure. Sure. Uh, show me Bruce Willis in that movie. That's a spoiler for everybody
Starting point is 00:34:41 hasn't seen it. It's been a while. You really should have, uh, 205 years. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. The rave. Malcolm Crow. Malcolm Crow. I wouldn't guess that in a million years. No, I'd never want to go. Uh-uh. Sometimes they come back. Damn! Number seven, that seals it right there. Holy shit.
Starting point is 00:35:02 We can rent prizes for everybody, though, if we get that last one. If you figure out this last one, and you can't do this. You can do this. Oh, okay. I can't do this. I'm so out of them. I have no idea. I really, I hope you get it, dude.
Starting point is 00:35:15 I really hope you get it. Who was the name of that TV show? The mom was in the attic who was like always dead. Oh, we know who else is it also did an attic? Beetlejuice. But is he a ghost? I think so. Isn't he? He's the ghost with the most, baby. Oh, he is a ghost
Starting point is 00:35:31 with the most. That's right. Yeah, he even says it. Yeah. He says it. Yeah. I think that's it. Beatlejuice. All right. Oh, you said it twice now. Yeah. Oh, careful. I said two different ways. Okay. Show me Betelgeist.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Oh, holy shit. Number six, winners. Everybody's a winner. That's crazy. Yeah. We haven't had a game like that in a while. That was insane. Yeah, we totally haven't. Well done.
Starting point is 00:35:57 Yeah, everybody involved gets a victory pickle. Hold on. You get a victory pickle. There you go. Brian, what are the rest of these that we didn't get? Yeah, so your bonus was the Ghost of Christmas present. And people said Muppets, people said Scrooge. And then some people just said the Ghost of Christmas present.
Starting point is 00:36:14 It's always done really well. Like the one in Scrooge is very like evil-looking. and the one in Muppets is the, what's the name of the kind of ghostly looking Muppet that's like got tendrils that are kind of Oh, that's the past one though. That's the past, the little girl. Yeah, the guy in that one is the big,
Starting point is 00:36:34 full suit dude with the beard going, Come inside and get to know me better man. And he's like a, he's a new creation. All three of them were new creations. They didn't use existing. Gotcha. They weren't. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:47 Some of the other. Tim Burton is like probably, probably like zero once I started thinking about Tim Burton, Zero the dog and yeah, corpse bride. It's amazing. Nobody said zero. Nobody said zero. Here's where things also landed.
Starting point is 00:37:01 Thor from ghosts from the TV show ghosts. We had a lot of people picking ghosts from the TV show ghosts, both the, the UK and the American version. Danny Phantom, George and Marion Kirby from Topper, Yoda. Oh, yeah. Pete from ghosts. Agatha all along. Bent Neck Lady from Hill House.
Starting point is 00:37:21 Yeah, creepy, scary. Dexter's dad from Dexter's laboratory. No, just kidding. From Dexter. Harry Morgan. The high five ghost from regular show. Oh, high fives.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Ghosts, of course. Isaac Higintoot from ghosts. Large Marge. Another good choice. Oh, yeah. She's good. Peewee, right? Sadako Yamamura.
Starting point is 00:37:42 Yeah, from Peewee. And when they pulled the corpse from the burning wreck. Stave puff, Marshmilla Man. Mm-hmm. Sub-Rose's Candle Ghost. Nice. Which please Dr. Crusher to no end.
Starting point is 00:37:56 That pleases us as well. That's fantastic. Totally does. Let's see. Army of the Dead from Lord of the Rings. Somebody put Bob Crackett. Ring race. It's close.
Starting point is 00:38:07 Bob Crackett. Bob Crackett. Also, Bob Cratchett didn't die. No. No, he was the one who lived. Yeah, definitely not a ghost. Chubs from Happy Gilmore, Dead Boy Detectives,
Starting point is 00:38:22 Duke Ellington from Big Mouth. Great pull there, like living up in the attic. Oh, I forgot about that, yeah. Gengar, George from Dead Like Me. Bruce Willis again, right? Or is that different character. No, Dead Like Me is the girl.
Starting point is 00:38:39 She's the one who has to go and Free Spirits, the TV show from Showtime. Never mind. Yeah, that was a great show. I'm mixing that up with, the death becomes her or something. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:38:52 Didn't they eventually kill Jennifer Love, Hewitt, and Ghost Whisper? Didn't they do that? Did they kill her and turn her to her ghost? I can't remember. No. Her husband died and was a ghost. I got really pissed about that. I was like, this is so stupid. Having her do that would have been a real shark jump. That's crazy. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:39:09 Shulis Joe Jackson, it would have to be the final episode that she dies and becomes a ghost and then she can just talk to them all day long. And finally, the twins from the Shining. And that shoeless Joe one was from You build a del com, fill the dreams. Okay. That's a good one too. Ray Leota out there playing shoeless Joe.
Starting point is 00:39:27 That's right. Yeah, with his eyeliner and everything. Former smoker Ray Leota. Missing half his brain for reasons. We won't spoil why, but. Current ghost, Ray Leota. Yeah, he's right now. He's a ghost.
Starting point is 00:39:41 Rest in peace. Well, there you go. Dunaway, congratulations on not only clearing the board, and winning for your winner, but also winning for my winner. Everybody wins a victory pickle. Congratulations. Thank you, Scott Fletcher. That's going to do it for my time. Oh, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Let me really quickly tell Mike, so I added a game because if you, you know, basically you guys won equally. So Mike Pacholic, you're getting a copy of Dead Cells and the DLC, the Bad Seed. Nice. And Justice Beaver, you're getting Gatekeeper and Riftbreaker. So nice. Nice, nice couple of verbs there.
Starting point is 00:40:17 Gatekeeper and Rift Breaker. Rift Breakers. Awesome. Don't play Gatebreaker and Rift Keeper accidentally instead. No, those are T-Moo versions of those games. Don't play those. Dunaway, we're going to be together again tonight. You and I, 4 p.m. We're going to start with play retro.
Starting point is 00:40:33 We're going to end with watch Retro. It's going to be great. Get out your GBAs, everybody, and play your Golden Sun games, because that's what we're playing. And they are awesome. I've been playing it all week. It's so good. And long.
Starting point is 00:40:45 They're like 100 hours worth of gameplay. Oh, they're huge. They're huge. These are some of my favorite RPGs and I never beat them. Still some of my favorites. We'll talk about why and what the deal is there. Tonight, 4 p.m. Mountain, be there or B. Square. Brian Dunaway, kiss our butts.
Starting point is 00:41:00 All right, he's out of here. Well, ladies and gentlemen. Poor Tom had to wait a long time for this. He has been sitting for a while. But now... Isn't technology wonderful? It is when Tom's here and thankfully he's so patient that he hung around, you know, tell Brian Dunaway finally shut the F up.
Starting point is 00:41:15 Just kidding. That's terrible. Tom Merritt, how's it going? What? Oh, hi. Oh, hi. Oh, hi. Oh, hi.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Didn't see you standing there. How long have you been there? I wasn't sleeping at all. Oh, good. Oh, good. Well, I wouldn't blame you. Actually, I wasn't. I was writing up how Foxcon now makes way more money off of servers than it does off making phones.
Starting point is 00:41:38 Is that true? Yeah. Servers, like, it's part of the AI, boom. Like data center stuff. That makes sense, I guess. This seems like they're all doing that. Everybody's, like, doing it. doing a little bit of a shift.
Starting point is 00:41:48 I'm doing it. Yeah, even Tom's doing it. Yeah, look at that back there. No more books. No more books. All data centers. All data center. Well, thank goodness we're talking about data centers again because today's
Starting point is 00:42:00 question for Tom is related. We try, you know, you guys try to send a stuff that's a little more varied. It's not always about AI, but this one is. It just happens to be about AI. Yeah. And it's actually a pretty good question. I had to go kind of dig this up myself because I didn't know this was a thing. I was curious about it.
Starting point is 00:42:17 so I did. But Tom, this is what we do. When you come on, Tom answers these, these tech questions so you at home could be a little more informed. And we're going to read this one now. Hi, Tom. Question for you, although he spelled it Q-U-W-S-T-I-O-N. Okay, it's cute. That spells everything perfectly. That's what I was just going to say. As a fellow typo, a magician man, I'm with you, buddy. I'm with you. This person's name Yardley P, by the way. It's a great name. Love it. It says Anthropics says new code models will embed watermarks. in generated text and C2PA metadata in files to comply with the EU AI Act, which I guess this just passed. Is this a recent? EU AI Act passed a while ago.
Starting point is 00:42:59 Okay. And Anthropic is announcing yesterday, or maybe it was two days ago now, but announcing its compliance will include the following. Okay. And it goes on to say, they said this will include updating older models. Is this seen as good news for the rest of the world? and is your take that the future of AI will have better controls on metadata and other ways to show that AI was used in making something. I hope that made sense. Thanks for all you do. Your Lee P. Yes. Did it make sense, first of all? It did. It made perfect sense. Okay, good. Now make sense for the rest of us. What did this actually do and what does it actually mean?
Starting point is 00:43:37 And will it like, first of all, let me start over. Is Anthropic the first out the gate to announce their compliance and say what they're going to do? we're waiting for everybody else? I don't know that they are the first. They're the first I've heard of. I have not heard OpenAI announcing what it's doing here. There may be some smaller companies that have. C2PA is not new. And Google and OpenAI have been, well, I say OpenAI,
Starting point is 00:44:03 and I'm pretty sure that's right. But I know Google for sure and Adobe, because Adobe helped develop it, have been using C2PA for images for years. So the water market, and the images part is not new at all. It's just great. Anthropic is putting a little more steam behind it
Starting point is 00:44:21 because I think Anthropic was participating in this before and now they're going to be using it more widely. The text watermarking is the interesting part. The text watermarking, they don't tell us what kind of text watermarking they're using, probably because they don't want to make it easier for people to strip it out. But text watermarking can take a lot of different
Starting point is 00:44:44 forms. It could be hidden characters. It could be changing the text to use a pattern of text that doesn't change the meaning, but you know, you use a certain kind of synonym regularly for certain words. And this works really well in English where we have a wealth of synonyms. But you're you're making sure that your output is intelligible, but also you could always say, and I can do a little analysis on this and find out yes, Anthropic always says sugar when they mean sweet or whatever. That doesn't seem limiting to them, or maybe it does. I don't love the text watermarking that does pattern recognition for my own kind of work because I don't know how it's applied. If I put a piece of text into Claude and I say,
Starting point is 00:45:39 hey, can you format this for substack? Don't change any of the text. I can get it to do that most of the time. If it's watermarking, though, will it respect my wishes? Or will it be like, well, no, but I got a watermark it, so I'm going to change some words here and there. Right. It just depends on how they do it. Which then takes your writing that you wrote and then people at home reading your writing can run that through some sort of filter. And it says, yes, definitely Anthropic did this because here's the pattern.
Starting point is 00:46:06 That's true. Even if they're not changing the words, even if they're using a different kind of text watermarking that leaves my words exactly the same, it would show up as being generated, right? Because it might have added hidden characters or something like that. The Wraith in the chat says micro dots, question mark? Is that, I don't even know what that is. No, I don't think so. Because that's more graphic and you're going to be pasting into different fonts. With C2PA, there's watermarking that just goes into the pixels. And that doesn't change with the image. Orny could do microdots for sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that makes sense. But yeah, you could have, you could have like small, small characters or invisible characters.
Starting point is 00:46:44 or punctuation and markup type things that don't show up when you cut and paste them, but survive when you cut and paste them. And then it would say, yeah, this was all generated. I'm like, well, the bold, the bolding and the headline formatting were generated, but not the text. Anyway, it's easy to strip the stuff out. C2PA and text watermarking are meant to provide a way to tell if something was run through a generator. It is not a foolproof way to always know if something was AI or not. And it's not meant to be.
Starting point is 00:47:21 It's meant to be kind of a voluntary thing. So the absence of these watermarks does not mean it wasn't generated. Generally, the presence of the watermark does mean it was sent through a tool. As we just discussed, there's some miscommunication. But most of the time, it just means like, yeah, someone watermarked this. And in fact, Adobe's got a really good system for even showing a chain of, conduct. So you can see what was done. Like, well, they took an actual original image and then they processed it to just change the colors. But everything else was left the same. So it's,
Starting point is 00:47:54 it's a good use of the tool for good actors. It is not a foolproof way to stop someone from passing off generated material as not generated. So when, when, okay, I'm put up an example here. I just made Gemini do an image generation. Yeah, you're head. is now a flower. I said, give me a picture some flowers. And they did that. And boy, howdy, they decided the whole world outside this house is nothing but flowers also because day is weird. It's like a talking head song.
Starting point is 00:48:25 It totally does. But as you can see down in this corner and I'll blow this up. That was a parking lot. There is a little Gemini watermark at the very bottom corner. Is that what we're talking about? Is there something more happening in the image? C-GPA is better than that. That is a watermark.
Starting point is 00:48:43 You're absolutely right. And Gemini does that to kind of help, you know, keep things along. But C2PA can go into the metadata of the image so that you don't, you wouldn't necessarily see it. Okay. But you can say, like, show me the C2PA. And I'll be like, here, here's all the information on what was generated and when and how and all that sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:49:04 Yeah. I see, I think that seems good. It's good. Yes. It is absolutely good. For people who are wanting to make sure that you'd need. know like, hey, these are the tools I used on this. This is what I changed and this is what I didn't. You know, here's the log. I think that's great. For the text watermarking, I really not sure why we need
Starting point is 00:49:25 it. I don't know that it is foolproof enough to really like prevent people from being fooled by an AI that they're real. Like it's not, it's not going to be used to stop fishing attempts. It's easy enough to strip out or use open source tools or this or that. So I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just not sure how much achievement it causes because text watermarking is a little more fiddly. But again, both of these things are really meant for good actors. These are not the kinds of things that are meant to stop all nefarious uses. Now, they will stop some nefarious uses because some people are bad at things.
Starting point is 00:50:09 and they'll forget to strip out watermarks and try to pass something on, and you'll be able to catch them. So, you know, I guess that's good because it does put a few roadblocks in the way. And it is. And there is some, some, there are ways now to do some pattern recognition on, let's say you're looking at something that chat GPT generated in text. Yeah. There's ways to see hallmarks of the way they write things and the same with other models.
Starting point is 00:50:35 Yeah, without even adding a watermark. Exactly. Sometimes just tell, just the way, you know, you can. can do text analysis and figure like, oh, this was written by Scott Johnson. It's the way he writes. Right. You can do that and like, oh, this was probably written by GPT 5.6 because it's the way it writes. And the problem with that is there's also the possibility of false positives, which is always an issue. It's my biggest issue with AI. I hate that part of it. But the idea is these models are just going to get better. So in theory, we will need a system to decipher or to do this because the models will get better at not sounding like it came from GPT.
Starting point is 00:51:12 And in fact, GPT, you could say to GPT, all right, now rewrite this in a way that you wouldn't write it, but do it in the style of something else or whatever. And I know they're cracking down on that. Like if you ask Anthropic to write something in the style of, I don't know, famous author, Hemingway, it will say no now. Or one of them will. It may not be GPD, but one of them's going to say,
Starting point is 00:51:33 I'm not allowed to rip off other writers. And you might be able to talk your way around it. because that's how a lot of this works. But I feel like there's no safe, there is no perfect method yet. And maybe there never will be. Like these seem like nice steps, right? But I just don't see how they're ever going to solve this.
Starting point is 00:51:54 These are good things for certain names. And like I said, for good actors, you know, or for logging, you know, where you're in an industry where you need compliance to show, like these are the tools we used. I think it's great for that. for stopping things. I don't think we'll ever be able to do that.
Starting point is 00:52:14 And history shows we don't need to. We all sort of get used to the idea that, like, yeah, I can record someone's voice and play it back. We don't need to have an announcement at the beginning of every cassette tape that says, the following is not a real person. This is a cassette recording, right? We just know, like, oh, yeah, you can record people and we get, we get used to as a society what the possibilities are.
Starting point is 00:52:43 The same way like, yeah, there's warnings that come at the beginning of some videos that say, the following is a dramatization. Do you really think that you need that? Do you really think that, you know, is the thing that prevents us all from being fooled? That is real video of real events. Stop us from another war or the world situation. Yeah, exactly. So I feel like these are the kinds of things that are thought to be necessary at the beginning and may actually be helpful at the beginning of a new technology. But eventually we all just kind of get used to like, oh, yeah, that's a possibility. And I sort of have my spidey sense of knowing when to look to say like, yeah, but was this
Starting point is 00:53:21 generated? It just becomes a common question. And I guess we always have the same pattern with any of these changes. There's always an older generation where a new technology will come along that can fool them. and bad actors, as you say, will be doing that. And that can take the form of mass email attempts with no AI involved 20 years ago. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:43 And now it happens to be a lot easier and faster with that. And a generation can recognize it for what it is. And the oldest one often gets fooled. So we help them. Heck, the old. We're going to be that at some point. Those official looking envelopes that you used to get in junk mail. I don't really see them anymore.
Starting point is 00:53:59 But like, you know, the official state department of money. has sent me a minute. I mean, you get so many things right around April and May that look like they're from the IRS with your refund. Or somebody wanting you to refinance your mortgage. It's like the Department of Mortgage Salvation has contacted you. We can save you money, you know, just file this official looking form. The people that we are, we usually get, the three of us get those domain notice expiration.
Starting point is 00:54:29 Yeah. I haven't got one of those in a while. I used to get those all the time. renew your domain here. I'm like, that's not who owns my domain. Exactly. Yeah. I get a lot of like very hyper-specific stuff like, Dear Frog Pants, we notice that core video games for core gamers, like they give this big long title to the show. We've noticed this and this and this. As you mentioned in your previous episode, and then they'll have some AI scrape it,
Starting point is 00:54:54 translate it, put a little line of something that actually happened. That's a really good recent one. Yeah, I get that all the time. It's like, In your episode, DTNS 5325, I'm like, yeah, okay, no one talks like that. No one talks like that. So it is one of those things where if you were, I don't know, let's just say Tom was 80 and you kind of missed a gap of this tech change. Yeah. You might go, oh, goodness, they know so much. As we get older, our critical faculties just get weaker, you know.
Starting point is 00:55:23 And that's just something everyone should be aware of. Like, you're not an exception. No, yours may get weaker at a slower rate if you're lucky. but they just all get weaker. It's a fact of biology. And so, you know, we do need ways to protect things. And that's why I'm like, I'm not condemning this. But the question was, is, will this save humanity, basically? And I'm like, I don't know if that's, that's really worth. But it's a good thing to have. Yeah, I agree. Well, questions like this are great. They make us think. They make us talk. Yeah, absolutely. And Yardley, yours was awesome. If you've got a question like Yardley or a Kouestean, like I would have type it, if it were me.
Starting point is 00:55:58 I would use the K. Please have those come in into the show and we'll get those to Tom and he can read him on a Wednesday. Tom, there's other stuff going on in the world of DT&S and outside of that even. Tell us what you're working on this week. Yeah, you know what?
Starting point is 00:56:12 I think I'll actually point to an episode we did this weekend that I'm really excited about on something called Time Shifter, which is an app that helps you beat Jetlag. I talk to Dr. Nicky about the science behind it. Like, okay, I did, I used this app. It seemed to really work. Why? Why would this work?
Starting point is 00:56:35 And Dr. Nicky, like, dug into it. And apparently the person who created Time Shifter is a researcher who has published foundational papers in sleep research and advised NASA on ways to help astronauts on the International Space Station set a schedule when you don't have normal sunrise and sunset ever. And so, yeah, there's some really cool science into what. makes time shifter work. That came out on Saturday at Daily Tech News Show. So wherever you get your daily tech news show, wherever you get your podcasts, or go to YouTube.com slash Daily Tech News Show. Check it out. Nice. Dr. Nicky did a great job breaking all that down. Yeah, that's really cool. I'm curious. I was assumed that stuff was bunk. So it's nice to hear there's maybe something to it. Yeah, this one's not. Yeah, very nice. Tom Merritt, it is always a pleasure to talk to you.
Starting point is 00:57:21 Thanks for hanging out with us. And, you know, may your day be filled with K-pop and more. Thank you. Bye now. See you, Tom. Uh, good stuff. Hey, can I tell you a bit of trivia that I learned this week that blew my mind? Yeah. Nancy Cartwright. Oh, I think I know this, but keep going.
Starting point is 00:57:38 Yeah, Nancy Cartwright. I just learned it myself. It's hilarious. Did you? Yeah, I wonder if we learned it from the same place. Maybe. Is the aunt of Sabrina Carpenter. So the voice of Bart Simpson is the aunt of espresso Sabrina Carpenter.
Starting point is 00:57:51 It's crazy that those two are related. It is crazy. Yeah. Not blood, blood, it's because of marriage. Oh, I didn't realize. I didn't know that part. I assumed it was... It's Sabrina Carpenter's
Starting point is 00:58:03 grandfather, grandmother married Nancy Cartwright's father. Okay. Yeah. So her, they're like steps, no, sorry, step niece. Right? Yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:58:16 I guess so, yeah, it would be step niece. Yeah. Okay, that makes sense. Sabrina Carpenter's a Scientologist? Somebody. Is she really? Is that true? I don't think that's true.
Starting point is 00:58:24 Is that true? I think he was asking, because Nancy Cartwright, it probably is. So is she a Scientologist, too? I didn't know what Cartwright was. Cartwright! I didn't know that either. I don't like people I like are in that deal.
Starting point is 00:58:40 I mean, whatever. You're all going to make your own choices, but... Yeah. Come on. I've seen going clear. How do you see that and not just go... What the frick? Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:58:49 It's jacked up. Watch that South Park episode alone. Oh, yeah. Geez. Well, there you go. There you go. That's the show. Yeah, take that, take that information, spread it around to your friends.
Starting point is 00:59:00 Use that bit of trivia, exactly. Be smart, all your friends. That's right. That little bit of trivia. God, right. Let us now take our leave. Frogpants.com slash TMS is the website. And I know you've got a new lost luggage today, correct?
Starting point is 00:59:14 Going up today, hopefully, yeah, I think Amy is working on that right now. And I'll post it. And it's the, oh, let's see if I can really quickly tell the episode. It's the episode where Sawyer, it explains why Sawyer is in Australia. Oh. Oh, right. Right, right, right, right. Right. And then some things happen. Things go down. Things happen, yes.
Starting point is 00:59:39 Yeah, good news. It's an episode where things happen, guys. You want those. You do. It's fun watching, rewatching leftovers because there are moments of, like, like, I think it's a, the thing is a work of genius. I love the show. Yeah. But it tastes like Lindelof. Like it just, the whole thing has got his smell on it.
Starting point is 01:00:01 And in a good way. I don't mean this in a bad way. Like, he's really at his height. And it's, it's making me want to consume everything he ever worked on after this. Margo Martindale, right?
Starting point is 01:00:12 Yeah, frigging Margot martindale. Is she in that episode? Oh, not Margo Martindale. Are you doing leftovers? You're talking about... I'm talking about the other lady that I always put in the same bucket as Margo Martindale.
Starting point is 01:00:22 She plays Patty. She's also in... Handmaid's Tale. Yeah, the new Covenants one. And her name is That lady. Yeah. I forgot her name too.
Starting point is 01:00:34 Aunt Lydia. Yeah. What the hell is her? She's very good. She's really good. Yeah. She's one of my favorite ghosts. She's sort of a ghost. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:41 Yeah, she is. She always appears. Yeah. And tortures poor what's his face. Yeah. He's so buff in this series. My God. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:51 Oh, here. Hey, some related trivia. Did you know? that he's cousins, direct blood-related cousins, maybe I've told you this. And doubt. Thank you for your range.
Starting point is 01:01:01 Oh, and doubt, that's it. He's related to, so Justin Thoreau is related to the guy, his interviews I've just been talking about. But he spells it, Threw. Theroux.
Starting point is 01:01:13 Louis Thru. Those guys are first cousins. But they, I think you did mention this when you started talking about Louis Thruh, but because you brought up the fact that they pronounce it differently. Yeah. like I think part of that was maybe Justin just says well in America everyone says
Starting point is 01:01:28 Thoreau so we're just going to do that exactly it's like Charlize saying you know all right we'll just go Theron or apparently those two like but apparently those two talk on the phone all the time like he's always bringing him up like oh it's great checking in with each other and stuff I think that's awesome and he's always he's like I'll never be as buff as my cousin was and he said was because you know Justin's gotten a little older yeah I mean he didn't need there's you know he didn't need it for future roles. He's like, cool, I will have that extra ding-dong. Thank you. When I'm in Fallout, I might look a little less ripped. Oh, yeah, I need to watch. We almost started watching the second season, or third season of Fallout last night. And Tina, we pivoted to
Starting point is 01:02:08 something else. Oh, we pivoted to, um, third season. Third season started? That didn't just start, did it? There's a third season? Or is it just second season you guys around? Maybe it's the second season, sorry? No, no, no. I thought you had me all excited because I'm ready for more. Yes, I'm sorry, season two. Okay. There's a trailer or there's something up for season three. So that came up as as one of the pills we could choose from on.
Starting point is 01:02:34 Well, somebody in the chat earlier was saying it's set in Salt Lake or something, the new one. Yeah, right, right. I'm so curious about that now. Yeah. So at least film there. Maybe it doesn't take place there, but they were saying it was filmed there.
Starting point is 01:02:46 You'll love two because two's all up in the Vegas, man. Can't wait, but Tina's like, um, how about something else? we started watching Starfleet Academy. Oh, that's a great. That's another one on my list I still haven't got to. Holly Hunter and Paul, I didn't realize Paul Giumabi was in this.
Starting point is 01:03:03 I'm loving it. He's the kind of villain guy, right? Yeah. Yeah. Apparently dream come true for him because he's a big truck guy. Oh, that's great. I don't know why I haven't seen that yet. I keep worrying that it's going to be all WB and it's going to annoy me.
Starting point is 01:03:16 So far, so far it feels more discovery than strange new worlds. Like if, you know, if I'm comparing it to recent Star Trek, It's more of the, it's less of the, the fun polish of strange new worlds and, and more of the discovery, kind of dark Star Trek. So larger story. Yeah. Not week to week, some new kind of thing.
Starting point is 01:03:42 Okay. Well, I mean, I like everybody, you just said their name. So Holly Hunter's great. Holly Hunter's great. Watch Giumati eat a muffin. I love him. Hell yes. Well, anyway, more on that later.
Starting point is 01:03:57 Where were we? Oh, that's it. Lost luggage coming out today. Watch for it. That's right. We're going to get out of here. We've got to do it with music. That's the rule.
Starting point is 01:04:04 So let's follow the rules and play some music. Well, Ambassador Domo, who lives in that weird, freaky abandoned church, wrote in and said, this would have been, this was two days ago. This would have been my wife's 62nd birthday and born, 8-9, 1964, New Brunswick, New Jersey. This marks the 10th. anniversary of her passing i miss her every day love you annie uh going out to ambassador delmo dude we love you and and you know this just reminds us to go and hug our wives uh right after the show you're gonna do that yeah why not just because of that they're right up there let's go let's do it

Starting point is 01:08:25 Who's the guy who painted his face white And played the ukulele? No, it's Tim Tiny Tim And's Doug Call
