Starting point is 00:00:00 You probably know that George Harrison got sued for infringement with his song, My Sweet Lord, being too close to the Chaffons, he's so fine. But did you know that the Chaffons later recorded a cover of My Sweet Lord to draw attention to the lawsuit? But it ended up giving George some nice royalties. Give us some nice royalties by supporting TMS today at patreon.com slash TMS. Coming up on the morning stream, unsettling pig nipples. The house looks like a crape. Loki is high key important.
Starting point is 00:00:27 White person empire. You have a little barding you. Not OSHA approved. Bird clothes. A Marvel woman with a bunch of dudes. I recommend the soup of the day. It's extra wet. Don't block my swig hole.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Cookie money. Scott's a lizard. Squeeze off some concrete. Ant man and the four monkeys. Everything in moderation. Except female protagonists with Dan and more on this episode of the morning stream. If you catch them all, you become a Pokemon master. If you're the master of something, you don't need mom, you don't need dad.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And you probably don't even need a church. Get back, Jack. I've got a gun. Hello, and welcome to TMS. This is the morning stream. I'm Scott Johnson. That is Brian Ibit. Hello.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Hello, hello to you. Not quite hump day, but, you know, temperatures are nice. We're going to our way towards hump day. Yeah, the good news is, so I'm supposed to go to Moab this end of the month. Yeah. And we were worried because last time we canceled a trip there because the temperatures got crazy. There was a heat wave and it was like 109, 110 or whatever. Like, that's kind of a be pleasant.
Starting point is 00:01:54 We're not going to go there. Right now, it's the same temperature as it is in Salt Lake, like 80s to maybe tops out at 91. 90s. I'm so excited. It's going to be perfect for you. Yeah. Because you like a little bit hot. You know, you tend to like a little hot and dry.
Starting point is 00:02:09 I like the dry, mostly dry. Not high 90s. Yeah. No. I would rather have, I would rather have mid 90s dry than 70s humid. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Which is, I realize a lot of people are like, what?
Starting point is 00:02:28 No way. I'd take humidity over that any day. I'm telling you, man, dry. It's where it's at. I'm a lizard. I was meant to be there. Exactly. I like taking one shower a day, not five. Yeah, one. Thank you. Thank you very much. And sometimes, sometimes I can even skip a day in the nice dry heat. Sometimes. Don't hang around me if I do, but you know, I do sometimes.
Starting point is 00:02:51 It's good to see you all. We're going to have a show. We got stuff to do. We had a question. I was actually doing pre-show, but I think it fits here too. This guy named Terry wrote in and asked if you guys could, would you 3D print your house? So like, let's say, Ryan, let's just say your current, let's say your current mortgage is paid off and your eye and some property and it all made sense. And it's, it's time to break ground and do a new home build. Would you consider being one of those? You know, you've seen them where they do layer by layer. Oh, shit, I spilled.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Keep talking, though. All right. Keep going. I'm good. It's why you need a thing with a straw, Scott. I agree. You need a cup of the straw. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Yeah, no, if I could design the layout of my house perfectly, right, like say, all right, I want a studio area. I want a maker space that's this shape, this size, the right size room downstairs for movies and stuff like that. Absolutely. I totally would do it. Like, you know, absolutely. I think I would too. Why not? Is there any reason? There's no, there's no like talk about that stuff being inefficient or broken. No, no. I mean, it's still, you know, all you're doing here is just basically putting down the foundation, then you put the framing and the drywall over it. So once the framing and drywall are up, you can't tell that it's, it was a 3D printed house. Yeah. But being able to say, yeah, this is exactly the layout I want. Oh, my gosh, yes. Yeah, it seems cool. Here's,
Starting point is 00:04:20 for those who've never seen this, this is what it looks like. Yeah, video of it. Yeah, I love this. So these are, this is foundational wall. And I don't know, I don't know how this stuff works in its entirety. Like kind of how are you insulating? Is it between these two things? Probably, I don't know. But that's what it looks like when you're kind of done with that layering. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:43 It seems cool. That they left the outside because I saw they put the windows and everything in. So that is how they're going to leave the outside of that house it looks like. I guess so unless there's another finish you do or a facade or maybe you paint that. I don't know. But right there, that shot is what makes me look at and say, is there ever a problem with it shrinking? Because one of the benefits of plastic filament layering is you've got these cold fans or these fans blowing air on the heated filament goo as it comes out of the extruder. And as the extruder moves around, these fans cool it so that the next time it comes around to that path, that plastic is firmed up.
Starting point is 00:05:23 it is ready to hold another layer. You look at that, and it looks like, it looks like those really thin pancakes you can get European pancakes. Yeah. It looks like they're squishing down the last layer when they put the new layer down. Yeah, I can't. It does seem to look like they're kind of pushing and then there's like a, like there's a, I don't know how to explain it.
Starting point is 00:05:45 It's like concrete, crepes. It kind of does look like crepes. Yeah, that is a bit like that. Like when you get the stack, the stack of crepes and stuff. It looked like, I mean, it looks like you're just laying down. That's interesting. That one you just showed was more of a flat. That's the one I'm used to sing, which looks like toothpaste coming out of a tube.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Yeah. But as you look, you know, that top layer is big and nice and thick. As you look down the lower layers, they get thinner and thinner like there's just not enough time for the concrete to cure before the next layer comes down on top of it. There sure are a lot of dudes walking around too. It seems like there's more people involved than I would have thought. then right for for the actual machine that is producing this house why are there still so many people around it like it's uh yeah it's weird you know the the omish and in uh witness yeah they look like they're raising a barn yeah look at how thin those layers get down there you know yeah it's crazy i don't know how i don't know how it works but it's interesting to me but yeah would i sure why not i guess the bigger the house the better because it'll you know as it goes around the perimeter of the house it gives the the the stuff that much more time to to to to settle. And I'm guessing these guys, they go to the little ends where that thing just let off and they'll smooth it down. Yeah. Yeah. Still going to have some human intervention going on here.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Right. Use the whatever those things, the scrapers, the spatulas. Also looks like it could get clogged a lot or something. I don't know. This seems like a lot of maintenance. It's a pretty big, I don't know, it's a pretty big opening. As long as your concrete is mixed well. Sure. Yeah. That's pretty cool, though. It is interesting. Yeah. I assume they're efficient, weather efficient, like all that. I don't know why that would be any different. As you can see, they're leaving space for what I assume would be insulation of foam, probably insulated foam they would put between those two slats. Yeah. So it's not just a thin wall and you're done. I don't know. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:07:36 I think I'd be more interested because you can do some really cool stuff with container housing that, you know, you think about tiny house. and they use those shipping containers and stuff, but you've seen some models of container houses that are like way, way cooler. And you're reusing stuff that would normally be thrown out or, you know, discarded or piled up on a lot somewhere. But like container park in Vegas a little bit. Like where they stack up in Vegas.
Starting point is 00:08:06 Yeah. Here, let's see if, let's see if this is a good. Oh, that's a YouTube video. Well, I'll give you the YouTube video. How's that? Sure. Copy and paste. Copy and paste.
Starting point is 00:08:23 And and paste. Where is this? There is. Jesus. Okay. All right. Let's pull that up. Oh,
Starting point is 00:08:29 see? I like this. Yeah. I mean, doesn't that look cool. Like it, you know, it doesn't look like a whole crap ton of shipping containers,
Starting point is 00:08:37 but it's made with, made with a bunch of shipping containers. So they take all these containers and then, what, stack them, put holes where they need to have them, whatever. Exactly. Yep.
Starting point is 00:08:46 And it's already great. You've already got a very thing. metal foundation frame to start putting either your two by fours or your other metal framing and then your drywall all that stuff this guy is not OSHA approved look at them where's your helmet sir yeah there's no way that's good for anybody let's see this thing when it's kind of done wow I love the look of it yeah it's cool colors too the black and the the dark wood and the stuff it's really nice I could go for that yeah yeah yeah actually you've kind of convinced me. Let's do that.
Starting point is 00:09:21 We don't need to hose it. Totally fine with that. Yeah, we don't need to squeeze off a bunch of concrete. Let's go. Let's get the containers going. Let's reuse the things that we already have around us. We'll make the world a better place. Oh my gosh. I was going to say the same thing. All right. Couple things. Yeah. Good news. I've got some new going on that I've just been chipping away at and it's sort of already going. But now that it's going long enough, I figure it's time to let people know about it. I've been doing roughly a goal that I wanted to do since high school
Starting point is 00:09:53 that I just have never been quite able to pull off. And that is a comic a day. It turns out the answer is to doing a comic a day is to making single panel comics. Yeah, right, and not multi-panel Fred and Can. Yeah, Fred and Can't take too long and I can't commit to daily. Not that I'm done with Fred and Can, but, you know, it's...
Starting point is 00:10:14 Yeah. It takes a lot more work. You may. You may as, you may. You may. So here's the deal. I'm going to call it New Duck because it's going to get its own domain soon, which is Newduck.com. And Newduck.com will forward you here. But really, it's just on the frogpan's site for now.
Starting point is 00:10:27 But every day, there is a new comic, for the most part, most days. Silly little one gaggers, you know, little ideas I have. Half of them come when I'm asleep. Here's an example. Two dinosaurs talking. One's all freaked out. Says I had a terrible dream last night that one day our descendants will be nothing but simple everyday birds. and the other one's like,
Starting point is 00:10:48 What the hell's a bird? Anyway, just, you know, cheeky stuff, fun stuff, whatever's on my mind. And this one took some people a while. It's a pig talking to a rooster. Yeah, I love that one. I figured to get it right away. Most people would.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Got it immediately. Yeah. That guy yesterday right and he goes, this took me forever to get. Well, as we've heard, a lot of people don't know the word dumb has a bee at the end of it. That's right.
Starting point is 00:11:13 That's right. Maybe he's from a certain persuasion. I don't know. Oh, no, no, no. But roosters wake you up in the morning. And that's the joke. But anyway, I'm putting them up pretty much on the daily. There's another one queued up, ready to go a little bit later today after I finish it.
Starting point is 00:11:28 So if you go to New Duck.com or just go to the Frog Pants site, you'll see the New Duck comic up top. And they're all really, you can look at them this way. You can scroll through them. Nice. You can jump back and forth. I made a nice little navigation for it. Lots of ways to, like, skip around and see what's worth. Three Rangers says, for some.
Starting point is 00:11:46 reason the upright pig is unsettling. And I agree, it's not necessarily the fact that the pig is upright, but that he has nipples, the side-by-side nipples. Yep, he's got some nipples, got a little belly button there. It is the nipples, yes. It makes a pig look more naked when they're walking like this. It kind of does, yeah, exactly. Whereas the rooster sort of, you know, you expect that.
Starting point is 00:12:03 He's got his feathers. Yeah, he's got his little bird clothes is what he's wearing. So go check it out. There's no strings attached. It's just a comic every day. It's just a thing I want to do and keep up. I think it's it's just something
Starting point is 00:12:16 I've just I mean I've been doing comics forever it's just I like the regimen of every day I got to think of something funny and I got to make I got to realize it
Starting point is 00:12:26 yeah and I got to do it in an era when AI wants to take all that away from us oh yeah so it feels good go check it out also for those saying
Starting point is 00:12:35 hey Wayne isn't there also another new thing there is the instance is now on Fridays again at 2 p.m. Mountain time we decided to relaunch it
Starting point is 00:12:42 during this patch season and we already put one up last Friday and we'll also do it live so after TMS Fridays usually around 2 p.m. mountain time we're up on the air doing the instance. That's great. How you like them is the new patch pretty good good stuff? Yeah I think that they are on the right track here. I mean in some ways it's what you expect from a wow patch it's like new raid some new content tweaks to this like it's not going to reinvent the wheel but it does feel like it's all you know decent stuff moving forward and as they get close to this third game in the trilogy of games, which is the first time
Starting point is 00:13:21 they've done this. So when we get to the last Titan, which was what the final expansion of this run will be, I feel like it's just in a really good healthy place. And it's actually good for a while right now because a lot of MMO's projects are either canceled or some are finally dying or being shut down. It just seems like wow never goes away, but others do. And so they're kind of having a moment right now. But anyway, that's Friday. 2 p.m. Mountain Time. Check it out. What does this mean for you? And isn't there bliss? There's a bliscon this year, isn't there? There is. I put in for so every year they reach out and say, hey, we're doing, you know, we're evaluating press credentials. Do you want to do it again or whatever? And I always, I always reply yes just to see how it goes. But they're doing things so
Starting point is 00:14:06 differently now. It's barely the same event. Really? And just run differently. have different people running it. It's not as much the company as it is a third party running it now. And the, you know, tickets don't sell out like they used to, like there's still tickets. You just get tickets. Like, it's not really? Yeah, hard. It didn't sell out in 10 minutes. Yeah. Remember those days? That tells you how much of a different event it is. Yeah, that right there alone is a huge change. Also, it's expensive now. It's like 300 bucks or something. Oh, geez. Yeah, that also is a big deterrent. Yeah, it's not cheap. Like, Nothing's cheap there, but it was at least nice to get, you know, $150 for a ticket.
Starting point is 00:14:47 That's pretty, I was going to say, that's pretty much what I paid for Tristan and I both to go when he and I would go to those things. Yeah, it's gone way, way up. But anyway, they, for whatever reason, I just never heard back. So I did some digging. And nobody did. Like, they're being really cagey with the press stuff this year. My guess is it's like three prominent streamers from Europe and the U.S. And that'll be about all they're going to do.
Starting point is 00:15:13 I could be wrong, but I think gone are the days where they're like, all right, we got these 12 podcasts and these 15 video channels and I don't think they're doing it anymore. Right. Well, just a different time. They're a loss because I think it's the, you know, it's the smaller groups of more devoted listeners that move the needle more than the, yeah, this one's super popular, but people just put it on the background. They don't interact with it or they don't, you know, they don't engage with that show. I agree. I think, I think it's a mistake to ignore the smaller. creators in a lot of ways the smaller creators
Starting point is 00:15:45 is what put, you know, at least their social game on the map in their early days. But it's all different guard. It's different people. It's different, you know. It's just not the same as it used to be. So it is what it is.
Starting point is 00:15:57 If they last minute said, hey, do you want to come? We got you covered. I'd say great. But otherwise, it's expensive as hell. To go to these things. And I don't, I'm not as into it enough to want to like, well, I guess I'll just eat the four grand.
Starting point is 00:16:10 It's going to cost to go. Lord. For hotel and everything else. F that. Not a chance. Flights are terrible right now, so price-wise. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Anyway, Brian, I got something for you. Yeah. This is a thing I ran into yesterday. Made me think of you because I wanted to see if you actually agree with this. Okay. Marvel released. This actually came from Marvel. They released a list of the movies they think
Starting point is 00:16:34 is your Doomsday rewatch list leading up to Doomsday. This is your Doomsday Prepper list. Correct. And they've put 15 of, the total, I don't know what the total movies are, but these are the 15 that they say you need to see in this order.
Starting point is 00:16:48 In that order, okay. And here's what they say, which makes me think the way this thing's top loaded, it makes me think there's a whole lot of X-Men shit in this, but anyway. Well, I mean, you've seen the second trailer, right? Oh, yeah. And we get some we get some
Starting point is 00:17:02 sentinels, a lot more Sentinel action than we saw in the first trailer with Cyclops, with them kind of behind Cyclops. So, yeah, I think we are getting a lot more X-Men. We know Channing Tatum's pretty prominent, fighting Shang-chi in the trailer. Kind of swung song for Patrick Stewart and Ian McElum. And it's also going to be probably, you know, we're going to see characters without giving anything away. We're going to see maybe some appearances of the new batch that they've been announcing of X-Men actors and actresses.
Starting point is 00:17:36 Yeah, Wolverine notably missing from that, by the way. Yeah, I know. You know, that's fine. Wolverine, we've had a lot of Wolverine. We've had, what, 12 films, 11 films with Wolverine in it. We can go without Wolverine for a little bit. There's no way they don't. There's no way they don't have him sooner than later, though.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Like, you have to have Wolverine. It may not be the first movie or maybe a stinger at the end of the credits of the first movie. But, yeah, I feel like we, I feel like we can get by without Wolverine in the first MCU. Yeah, just he's up in Canada, having shit done to him. We can have a whole movie without. Strikers injecting him with the adamantleasing his bones with adamantium. Yeah, which is all that's going to matter for a while. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:19 First we have, they say X-Men, the first X-Men, 2001, whatever that was. Oh, one. The thing that started all really for Marvel, like, coming back in movies, that and Spider-Man, right? Yeah. Proper re-entry. Yeah. X-2, so those two in a row. And stop there.
Starting point is 00:18:36 Yep. Pretend the rest don't exist. three, Captain America, the First Avenger, then the Avengers. Okay. Which is interesting. Yep. Five Avengers Infinity War, then six endgame. So they want you to do the big finale early here, five and six.
Starting point is 00:18:52 I think that's a good way to do it. The only problem is that they've got end game coming out back to theaters in September, which means do you watch everything up to that and then go see Avengers end game in the theaters and then watch everything after the game? Yeah, if that's what you're planning on, yeah, I guess so. Yeah. Because, you know, unless you want to watch them at home. Right.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Then Loki, I assume the way they've circled this, it just means all of Loki. I guess, I think it also is because Loki is the background graphic. And so it's like, is this a screenshot or like when you hover over each of those in the original page, does it show you a different? It just came from the, it's just a graphic from the side. Oh, graphic. Okay. All right. It's on their Twitter, or their blue sky page. Fair enough.
Starting point is 00:19:37 Plus, it's the only TV show in the whole. whole list. That's true. Eight, Shang-chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, then nine, Spider-Man No Way Home, 10, Black Panther Wakanda Forever. Skipping right over Black Panther. Interesting. Well, because Black Panther, you got that before Infinity War and
Starting point is 00:19:53 Endgame. There's nothing revealed in Black Panther that's relevant to Doomsday. There is stuff in Wakanda Forever that's relevant to Doomsday, specifically the Atlanteans and Namor and stuff like that. Then they say, do Captain America
Starting point is 00:20:09 Brave New World No thanks I'm good one was enough once was fine for that one it was fine it was all right
Starting point is 00:20:15 12 12 Deadpool Wolverine I'd watch that again more TVA setup and yep yep you need some of that 13 Doctor Strange
Starting point is 00:20:23 in the multiverse of madness feels like a hard rewatch I liked it I liked it I don't I don't feel compelled to see that one again but I get
Starting point is 00:20:30 I get why it's there right right and it's almost more for the for the the end I mean you've got the the
Starting point is 00:20:39 stuff in there with Mr. Fantastic and Professor X and Blackbolt and stuff like that. But I think you also, it's at the end of where Clea, Charlize Theron, shows up and says, encouraging you, you're meddling with the multiverse, starting incursions. We got to go clean them up, you dumbass. And then she was like, eat from this lotus flower. That's what she said, yes. Then you got Thunderbolts. I would gladly rewatch Thunderbolts.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Anytime. I love that movie. And then 15, the Fantastic Four First. steps. This is what they claim. And when I say they, this was suggested by Marvel, but I think it's mostly IGN saying, hey, here's what we think. Yeah. So. Yeah, I mean, it's the IGN logo in there. Yeah. Yeah, I feel that's, feel like it's pretty good. Do you think there's something you'd say, oh, you, why isn't Ant Man and the four monkeys in there or whatever, whatever one? I mean, Marvel's does do some setup with the crossover into the Fox universe. Oh, Thor, Love and Thunder,
Starting point is 00:21:38 absolutely should be in there wait is is thor 11 thunder not in that list not in not in this one oh no you definitely need to watch thor 11 thunder because even in the trailers we get uh a shot of a character who's introduced in that that is relevant is going to be super relevant so um yeah you need you need to watch i think i would add uh thor 11 thunder and um the marvels to that list marvels you know it gets it gets it gets slighted but it's it's so much better than it than it uh than people who haven't seen it assume it is where would i insert these timeline wise like which one should i stick it in front of um love and thunder is going to be pretty close to i want to say it came out before right before wakanda forever so after no way home before wakanda forever okay i could do that might even after
Starting point is 00:22:28 shing chi right around shinghi um for both of those love and thunder and uh Marvels. Yeah, Trump poll even says it was really good. Wicked Kitten says it's good. I know the YouTube recap for Loki. I loved my rewatch of Loki, and it went a lot faster than I thought it was going to go. It's only, what, two seasons of 10 episodes each,
Starting point is 00:22:54 something like that, but they're about... Sounds right, no. Yeah. 8, 10, something like that. Yeah. It's worth it because of... Where Loki ends up at the end is going to be, is going to be super important for what, how, how Dr. Doom gets, gets. So you wouldn't say it's low-key important.
Starting point is 00:23:17 No, it's high-key important. Yes, exactly. What, let's see, Brian, did you consider that MCU fans can't have a female protagonist on their male MC movies? Yeah, no kidding. Yeah, this is devoid of any, well, Thunderbirds, I guess, sort of. but um thunderbirds kind of but no no black uh black widow which i guess you get the absence of black widow and the introduction of florence pew is taken care of by thunderbolts um but yeah Kamala khan there you go i mean if for no other reason then um uh then miss marvel who
Starting point is 00:23:51 is may not going to be as important to doomsday as she's going to be to the events that take place after doomsday and what's expected to take place after doomsday yeah I got a lot of ladies in the Avengers movies, I guess. Yeah. Doesn't really count, though. Doesn't really count. No. I mean, it's Black Widow and a bunch of dudes.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Yeah. And then you get Black Widow and Scarlet Witch and a bunch of dudes. A bunch of dudes. And Gamora and a bunch of dudes. Oh, yeah. Hey, check out. It's Green Gamora and many dudes. That's right.
Starting point is 00:24:22 There's no, surprisingly, no Guardians of the Galaxy stuff in there, even Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which I guess doesn't go into multiverse. stuff, but it does make me feel like we're not going to get the new Guardians team that gets shown at the end of Guardians 3 as part of the, as part of Doom's Day, which kind of bums me out. It reminds me I need to watch Guardians 3 still. Oh, you haven't watched it? Oh my gosh. No.
Starting point is 00:24:51 Yeah. Don't know why. Take a hanky, Scott. Slack our ass. Johnson over here. Have some Kleenex handy. Okay. I can do that.
Starting point is 00:25:00 I have some right here. I used a big wad of it. it to clean up my spill a minute ago. You know what? It did good though. It knocked this way and just hit the floor and part of my chair. Oh, good. I got my rib a little wet,
Starting point is 00:25:13 wet ribs. Other than that, I'm fine. I like my ribs wet. And it was just water. So kids, let that be a lesson to you. And normally I have a...
Starting point is 00:25:21 Well, Carter's already seen Guardians 3, and she's already talked about how much it made her cry. Yeah, she got a pretty upset with it. Normally my cup has a little locker deal, like a... And then it will fall and tumble and nothing will come out. but not today.
Starting point is 00:25:34 Left the lid off. Open hole. Oh, yeah. Oh, left the lid on, but the hole open. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:25:40 because these Swig people don't know how to block their hole. That's why. Oh, Swig. Oh, that came from the dirty soda place?
Starting point is 00:25:46 It did. They sell, I don't know how we got one, because I don't think I would have paid for one, but they somehow we got one. Maybe you get a discount if you buy that. Might be. Go in and get less every time you fill it up or something.
Starting point is 00:25:56 Yeah. Man, these guys, you should see the house this founder guy built himself. Oh, yeah. It came up. in pop culture jeopardy, the
Starting point is 00:26:05 Colin Jose thing, which is great, by the way. If you haven't seen it's really, really good. But one of the questions talked about this trend, which Utah knew before all of the rest of us, is now taking place in these, you know, other restaurants are now starting to adopt this. And so he said, oh, dirty
Starting point is 00:26:21 soda. That's correct. They got it right. Nice. Got it right. Yeah, it's, um, I think that cats just fully out of that bag now. Yeah. Yeah. Everybody's doing it. Dirty soda, Utah. You bet. We know how much you folks love your sugar. Dirty, dirty sodas and delivery cookies.
Starting point is 00:26:39 That's our big claim to fame. Oh, crumbles. Yeah, right. Sure. The crumble people, their house, $50 million police. Really? These people have too much money for a bunch of cookies, is all I'm saying. That they cook with freaking, they cook it with shortening.
Starting point is 00:26:53 Like, here's the thing about crumble. Yeah, they're good. But they're not good for you at all. I don't even mean like, you know, no cookies are like great for you. Right. Yeah. It's made with shortening, which is, I know your bodies think it's good because you, Mm, shortening.
Starting point is 00:27:09 It's so bad for you, dude. Is it the shortening bad? Oh, it's terrible. Unsaturated fats or what's the deal? It's, uh, it's, uh, I don't know, I don't know, the shortening is just like, back in the 70s, they used it to grease pans and stuff. Yeah. Um, let's see.
Starting point is 00:27:25 I don't know the answer to this. Or, being bad to eat. There's a whole thing about it. I like this. King Arthur baking has a good shortening versus butter in baking. Oops. Oh, no, is the show over? Yeah. Goodbye, everybody. One button there. Let's see. Why got a bad wrap?
Starting point is 00:27:48 Shortening refers to all fats and oils. We're talking about hydrogenated vegetable oil shortening such as Crisco. Made from soybean, cotton, cedar, palm oil, goes through a special process called hydrogenation. So it means semi-solid room temperature. it's 100% fat unlike butter. Okay, here it is. A million dollar question. Okay, pros.
Starting point is 00:28:10 No trans fat. Biggest danger has been removed. This is a massive improvement. Khan, high and saturated fat to achieve solid state. These new shortenings are often high and saturated fats, particularly palm oil while it's not dangerous as trans fats, major health problems or major health organizations to recommend limiting saturated fat intake.
Starting point is 00:28:27 Highly processed. So it's just not like, sure, once in a while, get some cookies, you know? Yeah. But we have helped that guy build a house where I'll bet they never, I'll bet they never eat a cookie there. I'll bet you. Yeah. I bet they're done with cookies.
Starting point is 00:28:42 I think they've moved on. They're like, I can't look at another freaking cookie. Like, you know, when you think of someone like Mrs. Fields, do you think she ever eats cookies now? Like just, just eats cookies.
Starting point is 00:28:53 I just can't imagine her eating a cookie. You know? Probably, probably like one out of every, like, new batch that she's like, I came up with a new recipe. it's, you know, a pipe cleaner chocolate. And she, you know, decides to try it and said, okay, I've eaten one, I'm done.
Starting point is 00:29:10 Yeah, one and done. It's like going to, I don't know, I always think if you're like, what's it with a, it's like video games. You work at a company that makes the, you make Fortnite, let's say. Fortnite's an extremely popular game. There's no way, I shouldn't say this because I don't know. But if I worked on Fortnite all day, I'd be so sick of Fortnite, I wouldn't want to go near it.
Starting point is 00:29:29 Sure. I'd want to play other games. or if I made a movie that everybody loved, I'm not going to have the same feeling about it. I'm going to be tired and burned out on it, you know? For sure. So that's how I'd feel about cookies if I was making cookies all the time. I think so, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:47 I have to ask the employees. It's probably less asking the people who live in the nice big house made by Crumble. It's asking the people who work at Crumble locations are like, yeah, I can't look at another cookie. Yeah, they have zero choice in their lives. other than to look at that shortening all day. And that's gross. All right, guys, look, we got to do a thing, and it's going to be fun.
Starting point is 00:30:08 So sit back and relax. Here it is. Here's a tangent for him. Be careful. May it cause drowsiness. Well, look who it is. Dan Patrice joining us. What's going on, man?
Starting point is 00:30:18 Greetings programs. I've got a bunch of things to add for you real quick. So the shortening, like most other things, a little is okay. A lot is not. You know, that's, you know, like when it comes to, you know, when it comes to cholesterol and fat and anything, like when you're putting a little dup of Crisco, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:34 just to maybe crisp up your, you know, your chicken when you're cooking, that's fine. But when you're putting like three inches of it to cook your chicken, you know, like some people do. I mean,
Starting point is 00:30:44 sure, it tastes great. But, but yeah, you're not going to live a whole long, long time. But, right.
Starting point is 00:30:47 Again, it's all about, it's 100% fat. Yeah. Yeah. Like most things in a world that's all on how you, you know, your moderation and how,
Starting point is 00:30:55 what you mix it with. Absolutely. That whole, so Doomsday is, I wanted to hit this, Brian, real quick. Yeah. So Dooms Day, I rarely do this. I tried to do this with lanterns, and I'm trying to do this with Dooms Day.
Starting point is 00:31:07 It's one of the rare things. Usually I will watch anything and everything trailer-wise and things leading up things. I've tried to watch zero trailers for Doomsday. Cool. Just because I'm such a superhero, you know, fanatic. I'm trying to watch as little, I still get a little bit of information. You want to be as surprised as possible. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Yeah. Sure. And did you notice one thing about that list that you showed? There's a lot of very average to bad stuff on that list. I wonder, is that Disney just saying, hey, we just really want you guys to watch all this stuff again? I mean, tell me what's average to bad in this. Okay. Brave New World. Yes. Brave New World. Obviously, it's pretty top, baby. Like, again, X-Men and X-2, they're older, they're okay.
Starting point is 00:31:45 But they're the best of the X-Men movies, for sure. Yeah, yeah. Well, for three is bad. And like, do we, well, again, I've got a whole long thing. I won't go into it here, but, man, no way home. If you take out all the nostalgia and the love that we have for Spider-Man. Yes, that movie was average at best, and what they did to spoiler is not great. You know, and we better not be heading in the same way as X-3 for some things. Wakanda Forever, average at best, Brave New World, average at best.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Oh, I disagree. Wakanda Forever is fantastic. It's really good. It's not seen it. Well, I mean, when you compare it, it's hard because there's so many good things. Like Deadpool and Wolverine obviously is amazing. Yeah. Thunderbolts, okay.
Starting point is 00:32:27 Oh. See? See? So listen, here's my story about Thunderbolts. Listen, Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, No Way Home. These are all Marvel's way of saying, you know what? Love conquers all. Love saves like every movie in the MCU right now. I mean, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:32:44 You're not wrong about that. You're not wrong either, especially like, again, Thor, Love and Thunder. Oh, now it's horrible. Love and Thunder is, I'm sorry. I know you love Love and Thunder, but, boy, it was in bad. No, no, no, I'll say, I'll say Love and Thunder. is probably average, maybe a little bit above average, but it sets up a character that you're going to need for doomsday.
Starting point is 00:33:05 Yes. Yeah. Which I think is this list point is that these are all setups for story points, but not good, not necessarily the best we can offer, right? Yeah. Right. Well, I mean, again, that story is going to be so out. Those next two Marvel movies, the big ones, are so out there.
Starting point is 00:33:20 I'm just really wondering, are mainstream people like, you know, we're a niche. We are dork. for the good and the bad. We are huge dorks. We love it. But our average mom, pa, are they going to be like, oh, there's 15 different versions of Loki. There's 15 versions of Captain America.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Not all are good. Like, are they ready for that sort of thing? Less so. Less so. Yeah, for sure. I think in the same way that they were less prepared for maybe some of the themes, thematic stuff happening in endgame and Infinity War, the movies can be made in such a way that the fans get served.
Starting point is 00:33:57 the nerds like us get served, but you can also make stuff that general audiences can totally glom onto. That's the challenge, right? And Doom's Day's challenge is bigger. Their Doomsday's challenge is maybe bigger than it's been ever
Starting point is 00:34:09 because you have to land this in such a way that you make back the money you're spending on this beast. For sure. And set up the rest of the MCU from here forward. And you also need to convince us, you need to convince audiences that Dr. Doom is a bigger
Starting point is 00:34:27 threat than Thanos was. They've set Thanos up to be like, oh my gosh, he's like a galactus level enemy that has the ability to wipe out half of the people in the universe just with a snap of his fingers. You have to convince us somehow that
Starting point is 00:34:43 Doom is just as dangerous. And I think it is that multiverse thing that is basically Doom having, taking wrestling control of that is what's going to be important. Yeah, and that's going to be really hard because you know, Thanos, at least you had a
Starting point is 00:34:57 reason for his power. He had all these stones. Like, he was already like a real powerful dude, but he could handle the stones. Dr. Doom, you're, you're heading into what I call Harry Potter magic level, where Dr. Doom, we're just going to be told, hey, he's really powerful. He could do all this crap. We have no explanation for it, but he could just do all the stuff. Like, I call it Harry Potter stuff. It's because some spells are just like, oh, you could take 15 of these bolts to the head, but if you take one of these other bolts, you're dead. It makes no sense whatsoever. Yeah. It's a little, it's a real challenge. It's a for them and I think it's going to be, if anything,
Starting point is 00:35:30 it'll be interesting to see if they can nail this. My biggest concern, this whole time has been like, oh, Dune's Day is being done by the Rousseau's suite. I have no concerns. Until I saw that shitty thing they made for Netflix and spent like $350 million on making it, and it's bad.
Starting point is 00:35:46 Yeah. And I walked away from that going, oh, let's, you know, please hope you didn't, this isn't the new you. What are doing? Let's say this isn't maybe what the Rousseau's are capable of. And maybe it's just, you know, Rousseau's with an existing established IP like Marvel.
Starting point is 00:36:02 I know Electric State had, you know, was based on art and designs and stuff that came from somewhere else. But the Rousseau's have an established relationship with the MCU. And so I'm hoping that that is what makes this more endgame and less electric state. Yeah. So we'll see. We're still in a society too where the loud 20% influences too much of the other 80% percent. Case of point, Marvel's, to a lesser extent, maybe Black Widow and Supergirl,
Starting point is 00:36:35 I don't think Marvel wants to take a chance on female protagonists, no matter how much the rest of us want them. And they love, I loved all of those, all three of those movies I really liked. But man, people just, they just don't want it. And they're just crapping all over the place on female protagonists, which sucks, because there's been some good ones. I mean, Shuri, what's our name, the other, what I'm? You mean Shuri and Black Panther Wakanda forever? You mean that one? I know. I'm putting my foot in my mouth with that one, Brian.
Starting point is 00:37:03 You're probably right. Maybe I need to go rewatch that myself. I think you need to re-watch that. I do love the character of Shuri for sure. And I do like, was it a koye? I like Akoye a lot, too. So, I mean, there are some really great female protagonists. Give us where freaking Jessica Jones.
Starting point is 00:37:17 Get Jessica Jones. She's a member of the Avengers. Get her into this doomsday thing. It's probably too late. Obviously, they filmed everything. but she's not one of the chairs as far as we know i did not see a christin ritter chair but they also said that that's only half of the chairs oh really so yeah there may be room for this thing that's she's another one who she's so good and she's such like an under the radar you know powerhouse
Starting point is 00:37:47 and another one where it's like we don't really know how powerful she can really be because comics she's really powerful and her personality is perfect Yeah, she'd be great for it. I'm underused. You are correct about all this. Sorry. Yeah. All right, I got a little bit on a d'angets there for you.
Starting point is 00:38:03 I'm sorry. The tadpool also thrown a lot of She-Hulk, and I agree. I feel like the trick is taking She-Hulk, who is associated with a very tongue-in-cheek comedic series, as well as Deadpool would have the same problem, and dropping them into something as serious as Doomsday and having them not, you know, not be, not not change the tone of the film but they did that with guardians right guardians of the galaxy
Starting point is 00:38:30 those first two movies very fun very silly but very comedic but putting them in infinity war in doomsday worked fine i just just do i mean end game holy cow is always been happy to you know to to have your comedic stuff but it's just it's a that's a fine line right it's just hard to walk it yeah well and she hulk uh they made no bones about that this is going to be funny we're going to break the fourth wall we're going to have a blast i don't don't know why people didn't like it because i it was one of my favorite marvel tv shows oh i loved it by far yeah yeah i thought it was great the the fact that we not going to get any more of that is a crime we should get more of that but more you know give me more peggy carter give me more freaking yeah
Starting point is 00:39:09 you know we're getting our we're getting our vision quest uh in a couple months which uh that trailer looks pretty good i know you haven't seen it dan but that trailer looks really no that those i will but i just haven't seen any of the d23 stuff yet the doomsday stuff you've been staying Yeah, no, everything else, I'm usually, I'm all about eating it up and grabbing all the trailers. But yeah, you know what else is not, you know, not getting old? The board games that I got. Oh, yeah. What a great segue.
Starting point is 00:39:38 Is that a Danway, like a dungeon? You can tell that I've hosted 300 episodes of our, of a podcast. Such a segue junkie. So, Scott, I sent you a bunch of pictures. So I know I talked about this on a preview show. one of the things I really wanted to try was King's Gambit which is the Lord of the Rings is Kings Gambit
Starting point is 00:39:59 coming out by Restoration Games I got to have like kind of a private little demo with Justin and the owner and one of the designers of the company of Restoration Games and my God does it look amazing Wow I took a full-sized Ministerreth my
Starting point is 00:40:14 Lord yeah if you can go into the Discord from last night that I sent it's in our the chat with Jerry I sent some pictures of of what I took, personally took at the at our little private thing. So I got to see it on a table and man, it looks even better.
Starting point is 00:40:31 Those are some, I think those are the ones you originally had with some demo ones. Oh, that's a game topper table. Yeah, go further up. Okay, hold on. I'm going to come here. We'll get it to that game topper table in a minute because that's all three. Oh, way up here. Okay. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Come on, why aren't you open? There we go. All right. Here's the ministeris. There is. Yeah. From one angle. Oh, it's so cool. It's interesting how this has like all the different segments, right? Like you've got the, well, it looks like Mountain Doom on the left, and then as you go to the right, you get Ministerra.
Starting point is 00:41:03 So it's like, all right, we have some mountain spaces to go through, and then some planes and then some. Yeah, so what you've got here is you've got travel, basically. So the thing about the Queens Gambit, which was kind of a really big for its time, was it was based on episode one, and you were fighting in different places. You're trying to get, basically, you're trying to get out. Amadala up to the throne room in one area. You were trying to fight with the droids against the Gungens.
Starting point is 00:41:27 In one area, you were having Darth Mall versus Obi-1 and Anakin. I know, Obi-1 and, oh, my God, Quigon. Obi-one and Quigon in another area. And then you had, you had Anakin in space. So you were fighting over these different things. You had multi-use cards, and you had to program where you were fighting. You had four cards where you're programming, so you can't really go all out on one of the areas because you were going to lose in another area,
Starting point is 00:41:52 so it's also outthinking your opponent. Now, that's what we got here in a King's Gambit, is you've either got your fighting at Miris Terranth, or are you trying to get the ring to Mount Doom, or are you fighting out on the... You'll basically have some of the fellowship fighting against some Nazgul, and then you've got all the different avenues
Starting point is 00:42:11 that you're going to be fighting over, but again, you're only playing four cards from two different decks, so you're really trying to program, even though you have multi-use things that you could do from each one of these cards, you're still having to outguess your opponent as far as where they're going to be going hard on and where you're going to be, sorry, where you're going to be fighting a little harder at different areas. And then you're going to be, you know, and then it's going to influence all the other areas where you're fighting. It is great.
Starting point is 00:42:35 And then you're on different, you know, as you sway the tides of battle. And as you're going towards Mount Doom, you're going to be doing different mechanics in a different areas where you're going to be pulling chits out of a bag when you go into Mount Doom. There's going to be some dice rolling and some stratigree going on and some other areas. The whole thing is amazing. It'll be Kickstarter, I think, in October and November, there's going to be three different levels
Starting point is 00:42:58 is one of the new things I heard. So they're going to have, they're partnering with Asma Day to put out a kind of retail level, which I think will be about $100. Then they're going to have this next level, which will be a little bit more with minis and some more 3D elements.
Starting point is 00:43:11 That's going to be like $1.99. Then they're going to have one of these ginormous levels where it's going to be, I think, probably about two, I'm sorry, probably about three or four hundred where they're going to have just a crazy level. You'll have even like a play mat. You'll have all of these three elements. So I'll probably get in on that middle level, the 200 level, just because it's going to have a lot of good minis, a lot of good, all the 3D elements. But for anybody that's, you know, wants to wait for the retail level,
Starting point is 00:43:37 you'll be able to get into it on, you know, more manageable level. But it is coming along so well. It looks awesome. Yeah. It looks awesome. Yeah. Looks really cool. That's awesome. We got such a great hands-on that early. Oh, yeah. And one of the things you showed, one of the first pictures showed was the game toppers. So game-toppers LLC, Berkey is really great.
Starting point is 00:43:56 He puts out those toppers that go basically on top of a table or you can get legs for them. And that's a game table. Brian, I always ask you this, I think. You have a game topper, right? Not a game topper. No, I built my own poker table. Okay. Yeah, with a felt and padding and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:44:13 It's currently being used to hold 3D prints that I'm going to be selling the craft fair, but, yeah, hoping to get it cleaned up and usable for other things. Is this actual Elvish on the sides? Yeah, so their partner, they're kind of got the license as well. So if you notice on the sides, it's all written in Elvish, and they've got the really nice rails, or they have some of the other ones that are really finely detailed with some of the, you know, kind of almost like terrain on a side. And then on the corners, those are actually.
Starting point is 00:44:43 actually, those are actually double-sided coins on the corners. Oh, no, that thing is, so the, that thing is, that looks like Stratigo for my dreams, dude. Okay, so I accidentally, I wanted to take a picture of this because this was a big Kickstarter. It was, um, Lord of the Rings, the confrontation, I think is what it was. Now, that was a thing that was on Game found probably about a year ago or so. And we were kind of laughing because that table is like four grand. For a game that is basically Lord of the Rings, Stratigo, so the game, which is just a basic little game, and they made this, they blew out, this table. I mean, I'm sure they made like a couple
Starting point is 00:45:15 million on whatever they made. But it's so overdone. I accidentally, you know, I took all these pictures when I was trying to upload them to our Discord last night. I threw this one in an accident when I was trying to put the different games and stuff. But it was still pretty cool to see out in the wild what it looks like. They do look like 4,000 for that. They look like those Stratigo
Starting point is 00:45:34 panels. Tiles. Yeah. Oh, absolutely. That's awesome. But that that was pretty cool. But the GameToppers also in that corner, I think you had you had a picture one of the first ones you had. They had these coins that they're like kind of flippable. You know, they're double-sided coins for the corners, which is,
Starting point is 00:45:51 you know, it's just a little, cool little touch. It's not necessarily anything that's, you know, going to do a whole lot. But it's just a really cool little touch. Those game toppers are amazing.
Starting point is 00:45:59 And then Berkey also does a lot of mats. They're putting out a bunch of Lord of the Rings, Matt's themed match. You can see one right there went on to one picture with the Elvition side. That's one of their new mats. That's basically the whole map of, oh, that's Middle Earth is what that is.
Starting point is 00:46:14 Oh yeah. It's a whole map of Middle Earth. Dude. Really, really cool. And you're going to also have a mat. I think part of that all-in crazy version of King's Gambit is going to have a play mat that you can put the whole game on and it'll have little areas, you know, where you're putting your cards and stuff in front of there. So it's going to be, there's so much amazing stuff that's coming for those things. That's really cool. Another thing that, so the next pictures I got here in there is called Jumpmaster.
Starting point is 00:46:42 This is from our good friends over at chip theory games. I went to the chip theory meetup on Friday night. And Jump Masters is actually pretty cool. So it is like gamer Chinese checkers, if you will. Okay. So basically you're going to be drafted. You can either use like the pre-built teams or you can kind of draft teams of the different dice. And you're going to start, depending on how many people you play with, whether it's two to four, you're going to start in a corner.
Starting point is 00:47:09 And then you're going to be moving your people around. And depending on how strong they get, that's kind of like the dice you're basically ticking up the dice as you're kind of jumping over. You can also jump over your own pieces to power up. But you've got to be careful because as you take out, you're not just like one and done with these. That's kind of depending on how powerful that people are you lose,
Starting point is 00:47:31 you're going to lose that many points. So if you draft a more powerful die, it's going to be worth more points. So you've got to really watch out and be careful and make sure you power it up before you use it. But Jumpmasters are a really cool little system. that I got to play with from chip theory games that it's kind of one of these games where chip theory is known for a lot of the big things you know the um elder scrolls and too many bones
Starting point is 00:47:51 but they put out these other really cool like 20 strong and then this one is kind of in that same era where it's kind of you know really good production and a really a really fun little game that uh is a lot shorter than some of the other stuff they put out yeah i just i like the take on chinese checkers for some reason that feels like a mechanic that not enough people have iterated on you know Well, and if you think about this, so, Brian, think about how many games you see all the time. Like guys like I said, looking at games all the time. So, Scott, there's probably, what, 4 to 5,000 games every single year. And you think that board gaming now has been kind of in that, we're in this kind of huge middle.
Starting point is 00:48:29 Like, you look at the Venn diagram. We're like really in the middle. So it's been going on for, what, 10 to 15 years where you're getting 3 to 4,000 games a year. Yeah. My God, you've got to be running out of things to come up with new ideas. So someone was probably like, you know what, what if we made gamer Chinese checkers? Yeah. You know, these characters and these cool dice, you know, so it's hard to, it really is hard to come up with new ideas.
Starting point is 00:48:52 I'm just amazed at how people are just able to do it. And a lot of times you see a lot of retreads or just changing one or two little things or changing the theme. Sure. But for the most part, designers are just pretty much amazing. Yeah, video games have the same problem. Problem and or issue, not really problem, but, you know, there's millions of games. and they're coming out all the time and everybody's got to come up
Starting point is 00:49:12 with something new and so they just do twists sometimes and sometimes those twists change everything. It's like, whoa, someone took bullet hell and incremental RPG mechanics and put them together
Starting point is 00:49:23 and now there's a whole new genre and the new tag on Steam and now everybody's making these and buying these these trends come out and sometimes come out of that out of that like weird little tweak to an old formula and then bam the whole thing changes again. It's kind of fun to watch that.
Starting point is 00:49:38 You know and Bellatro made us think oh, we could do gamerie, you know, we could do dorky parlor games. So, you know, now everyone, then somebody came out with their blackjack version, their roulette version, you know, and a slot version. All these different dungeon crawly things.
Starting point is 00:49:53 Hell, there's even a game about inventory, loot management in your backpack. Yeah. It's insane. It's a good game, too. Yeah. That's funny. Yeah, it's called backpack.
Starting point is 00:50:04 Oh, shit. Back. I forgot the name. Well, there's a couple. There's a new one that's a little bit better. that I think has dungeon crawler. There's like backpack heroes or something like that. Backpack heroes is what I'm thinking of. That's it.
Starting point is 00:50:14 There's an app that I had played for a while. I'm trying to see what the heck it's called. It's the same thing where it's just backpack something or other. You know, there's just so many of them coming out now. It's basically just fill your thing with items to have affixes on them and rarities and then auto battle with them. It's a hot thing. You know, and merge.
Starting point is 00:50:33 Backpack brawl was the one I was playing. You know, it's all about merging and getting things together and then finding your recipes and crazy builds and then trying to replicate it and then dealing with the RNG. Like that whole thing is a burgeoning thing. Like there's a coin pusher game right now. Like those stupid arcade games. Oh, yeah. Coin push.
Starting point is 00:50:52 The ones that would keep pushing the coins. Yeah, they're just going. And then nothing falls, right? Well, this thing lets you chuck in all these modifiers like a bomb coin that will just like shoot out into this pile of coins and go, kaboom. And then suddenly you're getting tons. tons of coins and then the next round I feel like I need it for that game. Oh, it's like superior to every actual coin pusher ever made because you actually can win. Right.
Starting point is 00:51:18 And it helped people save their money. You're not putting money into it. The other good thing about it. Yeah, it's really weird. So, yeah. Scott, I wanted to ask you this. A game I mentioned just kind of in passing, did you end up getting Got Five as well? Did you get that one, Scott?
Starting point is 00:51:33 Or was that Brian? That was funny. It was me. I picked that up. Yeah. God, it's so good. It is really good. You talk about, like, out of the radar.
Starting point is 00:51:42 Like, every year you have all these grandiose games, like entropy. Right. And what was it? The drillers. All these games people are running for. And a game like Got 5, which is like a family weight, perfect game, it to me was the best game of the con. It's so good, Got 5. God, you would love this.
Starting point is 00:52:00 Love it. I'm going to, so we're doing a board game day this weekend with just a couple of friends. because most of the games we're bringing are like four-player games. So Marvel United and zombies and what is the Marvel champions, the card games, stuff like that. But I'm bringing the big non-marvel game that I'm bringing is Got 5 because it's just so much fun. And I think we're going to, I can be forgiven for not bringing a non-Marvel game because it's so fun. And it is, I always joke about this, but it is the ultimate let's just play game because not only does it take two seconds to explain, You could play a whole round in like 10, 15 minutes,
Starting point is 00:52:39 and then everybody knows what they're doing, and everyone's going to be like, all right, oh, you got to play this again. I understand it now. And here's the great thing. It's like, all right, compare it to Clue, right? Where every turn you're uncovering a different thing that reduces the number of potential answers to a smaller and smaller amount. But here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:52:56 If you miss something in Clue, there's no going back. With this, you could erase your board, then look down at everything that's in front of you and refill your board accurately from the from from from jump without any problem and I feel like every time I play uh you know I consider myself you know fairly intelligent gamer but every time I play I'm learning something new that I didn't even think about before like my if then say you know my if then statements in my brain change like oh that orange in my stack is is uh if there's no other green options above that orange then it can't be these numbers right here yep and the whole and a good utilization of the one, two, or three dot question. You either ask where a chit goes or you say, does this have, you know, is this the same amount, is this the right number of pips, basically? And using that at the right way, it's mind-blown when you start figuring that out.
Starting point is 00:53:53 It's so good. And it's only like 20 bucks. I mean, this is one of those where I want to like give it to everybody at Christmas time because I think it's going to be that good of a game for even people that play games once a year. That good, eh? All right. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:06 I'm to grab it. So amazing. It looks adorable. I love it. It does. It looks like a physical jackbox game in its presentation. Kind of in its look for sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:17 Like very quip lashy faces and stuff like that. Oh, and they feel so good too. Like you just, unfortunately, you just want to eat them because they're just such. Melanine, I know, melamine, whatever they are. Yeah. Yeah. I do look like candy. And why is that?
Starting point is 00:54:31 Why is that temptation there to put one in your mouth? like I'm looking at it right now and I'm like I kind of want to do it so Scott can I give you can I give you one more before I go give it to me because I want to blow your mind do it this is 100% a Brian game but I feel like
Starting point is 00:54:47 if we were sitting down and we taught to Steve Johnson you would love it and this is 10 it's I think it's the last one that I sent in the uh 10d N-D is that T-E-N-D yeah the link in there should go straight to board game geek now this is
Starting point is 00:55:03 a flip and right. So there's rolling rights and there's flipping rights. This is a little bit heavier. However, again, once you speak, this is another one of Danisms. Once you speak the language of Tend, it is going to be a piece of cake. Now, what Tend has is you're going to be picking different actions that you want to do. You'll have like three or four sheets in front of you that you're basically crossing things off. It also has, you know, as you're picking an action, say you're going mining. You're going to be actually, you know, it has almost like scratchers, like you're You're a lot of scratchers. You have two scratchers.
Starting point is 00:55:36 There's going to be like when you go into the forest and cutting down a forest. And also when you're going mining, there's going to be, you're going to scratch off part of a little board that you have. Like every game you're going to have a different one. And the game comes with like a hundred of them. So you're not going to run out just for playing them. But you're going to scratch and see what material you get.
Starting point is 00:55:53 Then you're going to use that material somewhere to unlock things. You're also going to be kind of either, you're either going to be planting, you know, you're going to be planting soil. So then you get different dice that'll be. whether I think it's carrots, different fruit or vegetables. And there's also, you're going to be using these different two lines to make a stall where you're going to be putting animals. So basically, depending on the size of the animal, that's the size of the stall. If you notice the grid has like, if you do like a four by four grid, I'm sorry, two by two grid, which is only four squares.
Starting point is 00:56:22 You'll have a smaller, you know, smaller plant or smaller animal, which will then tick up or maybe lay an egg, which then you can use other area. Every round it'll tick up. You can use that in other areas. or if it's a larger, you'll get, I think, milk from the cows. Like, things like that or in one area, you can also go fishing, where you're rolling a couple of dice, and you can also upgrade where you're fishing, whether it be underground or larger fishing.
Starting point is 00:56:45 So is the theme, the thematic, overall thematics of this is like you're gathering. Yeah, so you're basically farming on an alien planet, I think is what it is. I think you've got, I think the quote-unquote theme is that you're basically on an alien planet and you're mining, farming, and just trying to live. So it's futuristic. Yeah, theme, whatever. But you're just doing things like that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:14 It sounds like it doesn't really matter to the point. You're just... No, I mean, some people love getting into the theme, and it kind of does fit the theme pretty well because you are basically tending. You have to make sure the soil is ready to be planted in before you can plant. or you need to basically put up fences before you can get an animal in the fences. And then there's other things.
Starting point is 00:57:34 Again, you've got to upgrade your fishing ability. There's also a really cool thing in it where you've got cards on either side of you. So you're giving, like, so Scott, you could give Brian an emerald and it'll actually help you score points later. And then as you're doing all these things, that one picture you saw where there's kind of markers and stuff, you basically have storage of where you're putting goods.
Starting point is 00:57:56 Now, the game comes with colored pencils, where you could just kind of color in, you know, the color of your goods, because this is kind of like your little Tetris game, where each kind of material that you are storing has a different size. Now, each one of those three compartments has different amount of points or even sometimes zero or higher points. So in every sheet is going to be a little different as far as their points. So you're going to be trying to put purposely put things in there.
Starting point is 00:58:22 But what's cool is the markers you can get is that on one side, they either have like where you can just cross things off or on the other side, they're like stamps. So you're stamping part of that. And those stamps are amazing. They give you so much fun. So it's such a little dumb things. But those little touches make playing a game like that so much more fun.
Starting point is 00:58:41 Makes it makes it crunchy, giving you a lot to do. Yeah. And it's just like a cool aesthetic. So when you look down and you're like, oh, I have all these little ducks or I have all these, you know, little gems, things like that with the stamps. Just, man, this game is great. The box is heavy as hell. because it comes with like a hundred sheets front and back and then the scratch-offs. They also have a little like online app in case you don't really want to, you know,
Starting point is 00:59:05 scratch off or use up things. So they have a little app that you can use. And since the game has these cards that you're basically tells you like what your end game goals are, they'll tell you like a seed name. They call it a seed basically. It'll be like, oh, it'll be like Johnson 242. And you're like, you can send Brian, hey, Brian, this is the game we're going to do. And we'll both play it solo and we'll see what our scores are.
Starting point is 00:59:25 So Brian will go onto the app and type in Johnson 242, and then now you've got the same exact game. And it doesn't matter if you're playing simultaneously. Exactly. Yeah, that's cool. And you could either do it at the same time at home, like you know, over Zoom or something, or you can just basically not, like you said, not at the same time, and then just send each other the score.
Starting point is 00:59:42 Stuff like that to me is just a really cool. I mean, these state age. Asynchronous play is a crazy idea for a board game. I never really thought about that. I mean, do them all time with apps and stuff, but I didn't know you could do that with a board game. I guess you can do that with anything. I moved my chess piece to this square.
Starting point is 01:00:01 Okay, cool. I've moved mine here. Right. Yeah, I mean, you do that all the time with it's a blade runner. They play asynchronous chess. Oh, that's true. Yeah, that's true. I forgot about that. Well, and I play a lot of, you know, that's a big thing on BGA, Boy Game Arena. They have asynchronous gameplay.
Starting point is 01:00:17 So I have, at any given time, 10 to 15 games of asynchronous play going on, that while I'm just sitting here working, you know, every hour or so I'll look over and see if it's my turn on any games. That's great, dude. So some games are obviously better than others at this, but it is really, but it's a great way to play. Side note, I know it says nothing to do with the rules or anything, but Kelly Nakamura is the artist on this game you just recommended. She did Fractured Sky, a few other games you might be familiar with.
Starting point is 01:00:46 I love her freaking art so much. It's beautiful. Ivy Studios is who put this out. They have been more of a kind of a newer studio in the last. five or so years. The people at Ivy Studios are so good. Their games are so well-produced. I can't stress enough how good is.
Starting point is 01:01:05 And their art, you know, like you said, the art is just amazing in it. If you haven't seen her stuff, she's worth looking up online. I think it's just Kelly, there it is, kelly-Nakamura.com. I just love her work so much. Anyway, that's awesome, dude.
Starting point is 01:01:21 Yep. There you go. A big list. It'll all be up on QuickTMS. dot L.I a little bit later and you'll be able to find it there. So none of these will pass by your weekend of fun. That's right. Dan, is there anything else going on you'd like to mention about the podcast?
Starting point is 01:01:34 Tonight we're recording the next episode of The Geek All Stars. We're going to be doing kind of a Gen Con recap. One of my co-host, Ryan, he actually went to D-23. So we're going to talk a lot about all the stuff that was at D-23 this past weekend as well as Gen Con recap. So it's going to be a blast. Just another one of those. If you've got three hours or a long commute, have fun listening to our show.
Starting point is 01:01:57 Yeah, do that. Nice long show. No one hates those. Dan Patrice, everybody, take it easy. And don't take any pills that you shouldn't take out of work space. Bye. All right. For anyone who doesn't know, he's a pharmacist.
Starting point is 01:02:12 So he could do the thing I just accused about. He's a pharmaceutical. Only take Dan. If you, if you stay like Dan for more than four hours, stop taking Dan. Something like that. Perfect. Excellent. We are out of here.
Starting point is 01:02:27 Big thanks everybody for listening, watching, hanging out with us. We'll have a show tomorrow as well, Wednesday stuff with Tom and everything else. So come on back for that. In the meantime, frogpants.com slash TMS is our website. And we're going to get out of here now with a musical selection. Let's do that. Yeah, this is great. This is going out to Corey.
Starting point is 01:02:47 Corey says, hey, guys, heard you need some July requests. I'm using some July requests for August. Long-time listener since around 2020. 12-ish, but first-time requester here. My birthday was July 16th. I'm going to be 40-something, I think. Lost track sometime in my 30s. Oh, how cute. Anyway, it'd be great to
Starting point is 01:03:04 hear anything on the week of my birthday Brian's choice of song. I listen to pretty much anything except most country. Appreciate all the laughs and great entertainment you guys provide every week. Well, happy one-month anniversary of your birthday. Of your 40-something birthday. Yeah, let's
Starting point is 01:03:22 get to, this is great. This is a cover of, I found this recently, and it helped with my recent Queen episode of Coverville. It's a cover of Killer Queen, but it's performed by Hermana Furia, and it's from a reimagined version of Shear Heart Attack. They just looked at that album and that album only and covered every song from there. So you've got cool stuff like Brighton Rock and, oh, man, there's so many good songs on that album. This is Killer Queen covered, like I said, by Hermana Furia.
Starting point is 01:03:53 Yes, get more at frogpants.com. There are no such things as dragons.
