Never trust a French cat.

Scratch by the cat and you're to blame.
Stop Eddie Haskelling me.
Cybercompensation.
You can't eat toast!
Spoiler Baron Harkonen.
A whole lot of Grand Junction.
Four inch thick tan.
Butt plugs through Tweep.
A steady pair of apple hands with Tom Merritt and more on this episode of The Morning Stream.
Oh, you need puff, puff, you make a puff or nutter.
Marshbellbellop and lots of peanut butter.
My wife's a wizard.
The Morning Stream. We're not toys. We're action figures.
Hello everybody and welcome to TMS. This is the morning stream for Wednesday, September 2nd,
226. I am Scott Johnson. That is Brian Ibit.
Yep. You know, sitting here holding down the fort for the weekend while.
other people go gallivanting around the state.
Yeah, just dorking around the desert, making a mess.
Dorking around the desert, exactly.
Yeah, I'm back from Moab.
We had a wonderful time, Kim and I, and did a lot of hiking.
And it's weird, though, like, temperatures were low and it was raining a lot.
Good.
I guess that's good.
I was going to say, I mean, it's better than being, we had friends that we do trivia
with that last night we saw them and they were telling us, yeah, they did a, they did
a trip through
Grand Junction
down to Las Vegas,
then back through
Moab, needles,
arches, et cetera,
like, you know,
doing a whole thing.
They said the lowest
high temperature
that they experienced
on the whole trip
was 107 degrees.
Oh my gosh,
dude.
That is the lowest high
they experienced.
It's like,
yeah,
it doesn't make
for wanting to go out
and walk around
the cool stone structures.
So I think,
you know,
you get in a little bit of rain,
cooler temps? That's ideal.
Yeah, I think so too.
It worked out all right. The only downside of the rain
was there were a couple of hikes who wanted to do that were
they shut them down if the rain happens because they're super
flash floody. They could get, yeah, for sure, yeah.
There was a ton of flash flooding all around the area. There were places
in fact, right outside of our
place that we stayed, which is fairly high up, not really at
any kind of risk, but down lower
they had a, what do you call it, a playground for kids.
and it got completely like washed out overnight at one point.
Oh no.
They had like a dust storm devil thing blow in and the pool got full got filled with like a bunch of that red that red dirt that you get out there.
So there were a couple of like moments of like, oh my gosh, this is weird inclement weather.
But for the most part, it made for just very pleasant days and, you know, that's cool.
Oh, manvious.
That sounds like such a great time.
And weird shit like this, look at this weird formation I found.
That's cool. Did you find any monoliths out there?
I found, we saw some monoliths.
Oh, did you really? Okay.
I saw a few multi-lifts, lifts.
No, I'm just kidding. I didn't see that.
There's Kim and I. I'm not really that much taller than her.
She's standing lower than me.
But that was on a hike that we really liked called Grand.
Oh, now I forgot the name.
Grand Something Trail.
And it was awesome.
It was like intermediate, I would say.
so nothing too crazy.
And that was freaking beautiful.
And then there were these like, oh, here's one.
I saw a bunch of bats fly out of this hole right here.
Oh, really?
Oh, that's what you want.
Yeah.
They all went like dust, dust kind of thing.
Yeah, it was toward nighttime.
As you can see, pretty cloudy day, even that day.
But that hole right there just out of nowhere.
And I couldn't get my camera out fast enough.
And also my camera's going, are you driving?
Like, no, I'm not.
I'm not even in the car.
right now. Why you think I'm driving? And so it was too late to get the bats. But they came out of there and then a
Batmobile flew. Just kidding. That part didn't happen. Darn it. Yeah. But I got inspired. I did a, I did a painting of the,
of the, what do you call it? Delicate arch. Delicate arch. Delicate arch. Yeah. And that was fun to do.
And I think I'm very cool. Make myself a little print, put it in a room somewhere. I don't know. We don't
really have a Southwest vibe in the house, but I think that would look pretty cool.
anyway, it was great. We loved it.
Very cool. Can't recommend it enough.
Yeah, and I saw, I kept seeing things like we went through Green River and I went,
oh, this is where Brian and I could be for sushi.
So we're going to be for sushi, exactly.
And then they had all kinds of signs about how to get to Grand Junction.
I'm like, oh, Brian talks about it Grand Junction all the time.
I've forgotten how close.
Like, you look at a map, zoom out a little bit.
I mean, we were just right there on the Colorado border.
It wouldn't take much to get over there.
Grand Junction comes up.
pretty heavily, by the way, and
dog stars.
Are you probably in the book, too, right?
Yeah, the book has a bunch of that.
There is,
it's in Colorado, isn't it?
There's an airport, yeah, the whole thing takes place in Colorado.
The whole thing takes place in Colorado,
but does not feature any real Colorado.
They filmed it what in, like, Italy or something, right?
Yeah, so not even, like, normally.
Not even America.
Yeah, they usually go to, like, Canada or something for tax breaks,
but that one was, like, out of the country.
Speaking of which, you enjoyed that movie quite a bit.
What is wrong with the critics?
I don't get it.
I don't know.
And it's funny because the critics, the critics are giving it like 40s.
Audiences are saying 70s.
And I read the reviews and it's like, yeah, the audiences figure out that it's like,
this is not a big budget blockbuster Hollywood action film.
This is a film about people who just happened to be living in this post-apocalyptic world.
I think critics might have been saying, ah, this is too much, you know, tropes of walking dead.
And it's like, well, yeah, you're going to be, if you're in a post-apocalyptic world,
you're going to deal with people fighting for resources and banding together and stuff like that.
I agree with the audience score on this one, just like I agree.
I talked about this in our chat with Nicole, but I'm not going to be recommending Cape Fear,
even though freaking Javier Bardem is almost worth watching it.
Almost makes the whole thing worth watching it.
I saw your note in there.
I was curious about it.
It's a family of people who are so freaked out and concerned about security and protecting themselves.
Yet they leave doors open.
They leave windows open.
Their front gate is always, you know, open.
There's a killer living across the street that they are aware of.
And yet, you know, they don't, for a family so obsessed with security, they sure don't seem to use any of it.
It seems also just 10 episodes to draw out that tension.
That seems arduous to me.
It really is.
Like I kind of already don't like it in a two-hour format where that tension, that kind of tension,
where there's someone that crazy and you're all at risk the whole time,
that's already kind of a bad vibe for me.
Yeah.
I don't want 10 episodes of that.
Especially when it's that thing that Tina just absolutely hates.
And she kept bringing this up as we watched this show.
and she never said at any point,
all right, you watch the rest of this, I'm done.
She's like, I got to see this thing through.
Yeah.
But it's that vibe of the what about Bob thing that she hates,
where it's, you've got somebody who's irritating
either one person or a small group of people,
but to the outside world,
they're the hero or they're the, you know,
you're the villain and they're the hero,
even though they're Eddie Haskelling.
Yeah.
You.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, man.
He's like, oh, isn't he just so sweet?
He's just got such a nice little homie vibe with his, you know, Javier Bardemness.
And I'm sure Bardem is amazing, like you said.
I have no doubt that he owns it.
But, man, I don't think I could do it.
I can't put myself through it, I don't think.
Yeah.
No, he does such an incredible job of being threatening
with kind of that weird little bit of charm that De Niro had to really try to inflict on there,
like in putting it his character.
I'm trying to remember if the Mitcham one, because we saw the Mitchum one as well.
I haven't seen that so long.
How is the Mitchum one?
Is it good?
It's been a long time for me, too.
I remember liking it.
I remember, you know, the De Niro version is for me the best version.
That's all I can think of in my head.
Yeah.
Just him and Nulte, running around doing nulte things.
Doing nultie things.
Luke Sightwecker says, I thought Cape Fear, the TV show was really good.
Well, you saw a different Cape Fear of the TV show than I did.
It sounds like maybe Brian's first, not that it's like crafted poorly,
but this is the first Apple TV show missed for you.
Yeah, yeah, it kind of is, yeah.
Because up till now, kind of been bangers crossed the board.
I haven't really had a bad show on there.
And we've been lucky.
I imagine there's got to be, I mean, we weren't crazy about the Kristen Wake thing.
We made it through three episodes of the Palm Springs.
Oh, not Palm Springs.
That's the Adam, Andy Sandberg thing.
Palm Royale.
A bunch of ladies at a hotel kind of deal.
Yeah, yeah.
But there were no, in three episodes,
we did not find a character that we liked.
And so we stopped watching it.
See, that's hard for me, too.
I can't watch.
I don't want to watch a show where I don't like anybody.
I can't do it.
Like, what's the point?
I got to like somebody.
Right, right, exactly.
Part of the reason I haven't gotten around to beef,
and I know beef is meant,
people say beef's amazing.
You have raved about beef.
My son thinks is the best show ever.
Really good, too.
I'm worried I'm going to hate everybody.
That's my worry.
Yeah.
No, it's understandable.
Yeah, there's a character in the second season of beef that becomes the person you like and follow.
Okay.
As long as someone exists in that way.
Somebody exists in that world where it's like, okay, I like this.
I like this guy.
I'm going to follow.
I'm, I support this guy.
All right.
I'm into that.
He's kind of surrounded by a holes.
Yeah.
Sounds right.
Yeah.
I also had something kind of funny happen.
I'll show you some video here real quick.
It's pretty dorky here.
But as you can see, I parked between two.
So those listening, you can't see, two cyber trucks.
Actually, I parked first the night before.
This is before we left.
Got up yesterday morning.
That's my pillow and crap on the TV or on the thing.
The car.
I don't know why to call it a TV.
Anyway, I wake up and there are these two cyber trucks parked adjacent to me.
and I had somebody online goes,
I put this up on blue sky and somebody goes,
I hope you brought pepper spray.
There's all these jokes about it.
Sure.
Anyway, I've come to a conclusion.
Up close, far away,
doesn't matter where you stand looking at one of those things.
Yeah.
They are objectively,
I don't care if you love how it runs,
you love the software in it,
you're a huge Tesla fan,
you just electric life for you,
whatever.
Whoever you are out there,
I don't care who you are.
There is no way under any circumstances that that isn't the ugliest effing thing on the road.
Yeah.
It basically looks like what the 70s thought the future would look like.
Yeah.
And the 70s created stuff like this because they didn't have CGI.
They had to figure out, well, how can we make your car look really futuristic?
But really all we have are five screws and a piece of sheet metal.
Yeah.
It's like your GPU stopped rendering properly.
It didn't finish the car, so you got to take it back and get a new one.
And also, that stainless steel thing is a farce.
It's not stainless at all.
It looks like shit.
It's quite the opposite.
Yeah.
It's so bad.
If the future of cars looks like the Volkswagen ID buzz, I'm fine with that.
It should look more like that and less like a cyber truck.
Yeah, it's just bad.
So anyway, I got stuck between these two chuckleheads.
And then I did get to see them, the two guys to own them.
them? Yeah. Tiny little guys. Now, I'm not saying this means anything. But they were the littlest little
dudes. They were little guys. Like not, I don't mean like full on little people. I don't mean that.
But like, just a short little. A little diminutive. Yeah, it was hat on backwards. Just strung around like he's all
that. And I went, okay, that sounds. That tracks. Seems about right. Yeah.
Anyway, that was one thing we saw.
Oh, if you're ever in Moab, you got to go here.
This place called Miltz.
Oh, I like it already.
Just the pseudo-Azar big boy holding up a burger.
Look at that.
It's Milt Stop and Eat.
This place has been up since 1954.
That sign is the original sign, but the backing is new-ish.
Of course, yeah.
This is the front, oh, I don't have a front picture, but I have.
Like, it's the stop and eat.
Yeah, it's the stop and eat.
You and eat.
Yeah, don't continue.
Exactly.
You better stop.
Stop and eat.
They had the, I mean, that looks, that burger looks like a kind of a mess, but it's not.
It looks like a backyard burger is what it looks like, which is.
Brian, it's so good.
And those, those are like the wedge fries.
Yeah.
The fries were incredible.
Everything there was good.
I had half a shake with Kim.
That was amazing.
Like, that is, that legitimately was the best burger I've had in years.
It was so good.
Really, really good.
So if you're in the.
Moab and you're just, it's just right down there
near town, you just go to, just look for
milts. We just happen to drive by it and I went,
oh, this is the place everyone told me to go and we stopped.
Stopped an eight, just like it says.
And they were so nice in there
and it's still family owned after all these
years and freaking
awesome, dude. Loved it.
Shitty old menus, like
you can barely read them. Everything's
all old. Because they're stained with like mayonnaise
on them, crusty mayonnaise on the corners
and stuff. Yeah, it was great.
We had to listen to some dude bros
though, who were sitting in an adjacent table outside.
It's all like canopy covered picnic tables.
And there's this group of guys going, yeah.
Like, I was on the face of whatever rock yesterday.
And it was like totally like this.
Blah, blah, blah, blah.
I was wondering if it was going to be dude bros talking about their crypto or.
No, we never got that far.
In fact, we moved because we moved because there was a horsefly that would
not leave this one table alone and we're like,
I'm not getting bit by horsefly.
Not today, horsefly, I says.
So we moved to a whole other table.
I didn't get to hear the rest of it.
But it just seemed like a lot of like,
we repelled down the thing and
my tan is like four inches thick and stuff like that.
It wasn't really interesting.
And then one other
couple of things.
We're at this place in town that everyone said to go
to the jailhouse cafe,
I believe it's called. Had breakfast
there. It was very good.
I ordered wheat toast,
multi-grained toast,
and the lady forgot it.
Not a problem.
Normally you just say,
oh, hey, did we get the toast?
She goes, all of that's fine.
She comes up and I said,
hey, I think we're missing our toast.
And she goes, oh, oh, the toast!
Like this, yelling.
She goes, the toast, okay, hold on,
I'm going to get your toast.
And she's some lady in her like 60s.
And she goes, rushing back in the thing.
And she comes out, she goes, there's your toast.
Oh, you're going to love this.
toast. I'm so sorry about the toast.
I should have almost giving you double the toast.
I like that.
And then she leaves
and I eat my toast.
And we don't see her again.
We pay our thing. We leave.
The next day we're back there and we're looking at
they have a T-shirt area. So we're just looking at their
shirts seeing if they're anything interesting.
Trying to decide if we're going to eat lunch or dinner there.
Just kind of hanging around. And
she comes out and she goes, she walks
past and stops and goes,
Toast.
Did you like your toast?
She says.
And I go, I loved my toast.
It was an amazing toast.
Nice.
Man, she was.
She will forever associate you with toast.
It's like, you know, what you do with certain actors.
Well, like, you know, there's certain actors you say, oh, yeah, bean fork.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, no, it's like we established a, not a bond.
I don't know what.
A common ground.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I feel like I could see that lady now, 10 years from now, in a mall on the East Coast.
And she'd stop and go, toast.
Toast.
That's how that felt.
Awesome.
Last thing I want to complain about, not really complain about, but we went all the way into this canyon just to see how far we could go before we got either into Colorado or just lost or whatever before we turned around or just trying to see what was out there.
Just kind of exploring.
No internet.
No phone service.
just satellite only, you know, that kind of thing.
Yeah.
And we're going and we're going.
We find this place with this huge, amazing bluff that overlooked what looked like a ranch.
We weren't sure what it was.
And we're like, wow, this is cool.
And it was like nestled in between all this Red Rock Canyon.
And we're like, what is this?
We get up in there.
And it says you can rent these places and have like, you know, it's like a whole spa,
horse riding, you know, family experience.
So this would be a place.
We're like, oh, what if we planned a future family vacation?
vacation here. I'm sure this is probably what, three, maybe $400 a night. You know, we're
thinking on the top end. Uh-huh. I go looking around there, start talking to some of the people.
And I said, so what's, uh, what's the average night here? And he goes, well, for the lower end of
the rooms, and I'm thinking, oh, he's going to tell me like 80, 90. Uh, $2,450 a night.
Jeez. Oh, my gosh. I'm like, freaking Elon Musk better give me a foot bath while I'm here.
What are we doing? Renting that that's giving you the whole place, right?
No.
You were just a room?
Just a room and a thing.
And apparently it's super luxury and really nice in there and like it's high end and all that.
But no one's catering to regular people anymore, man.
No, no.
Pisses me off.
It's not in the middle of nowhere.
Screw that.
Yeah.
It was effed.
But they had a good yogurt parfait so I bought one and left.
Nice.
Good.
Anyway, that's what I got up to.
I heard you went to Casa Benita again.
Did that happen?
No, I didn't.
No, I'm actually.
I'm actually offering.
So in October, Barry,
is coming out here for a convention.
And while he's here,
he's going to be staying at Casa de Ibit
in the room that Inari used to use.
Oh, sweet.
And by use means, you know,
we're still making it presentable for people
or not presentable.
But, you know, there's a cat thing going on in there,
a little cat odor that we're getting out.
Sure.
Anyway, so while he's here,
I said, well, have you ever been in Casa Beniti?
He's like, no, I've never been.
I'm like, oh, well, all right, let's get you, let's get you Casa Benita while you're here.
Experience it once, right?
This is the way it is for people who come to town unless you live here.
And then it's experienced it every time somebody comes to town that's never been to Casa Benita.
But I made a reservation on October 8th for six people, which means we have three seats available.
This always happens like, you know, I hear from.
from somebody saying,
oh,
I'm going to be in town
for the weekend of this week.
Hootie,
unfortunately is going to be in town,
but they're going to be in town
the week before.
Oh.
But,
you know,
people come to Colorado all the time.
They're like,
oh, can we get together for coffee?
And I always find out too late to say,
oh, well,
let's snag your reservation
for Casabinias,
so you can experience that.
So Casabinita,
October 8,
there are three seats available.
Of course, if you live here,
it's open to you as well.
Big Bursi just went,
br-o-oh.
Yeah.
Right. Or Burgess
Diesel probably. That's who I was thinking of Burgess Diesel.
Yeah, he's, you know, which, hey, if he and
he and the family want to come, at least three of them.
We'll take three. But anyway, let me know.
Just DM me or email me or something. Let me know.
That's awesome. What a cool thing, yeah.
Yeah.
You guys will have a real butt ruckus.
They, we, a real, real Casa Buena,
because it's right in their Halloween season.
That's right. Oh, do they, I guess they
probably do a whole bunch of stuff. They do a whole
Dia del Mertre kind of
makeover to the place. They currently
have a T-shirt that I think I'm going to have to buy.
It's the old
Farah Fawcett, you know, that
classic Fairfosset
poster that we all had in the
70s or all saw. That one where she's
kind of leaning and is all nippily and stuff.
Exactly. In her red swimsuit,
it's that, but it's
as a skeleton.
That's awesome.
So I kind of need to get that, I think.
great but anyway so yeah if you're going to be in the area let me know we're doing a whole thing that
weekend i'm going to try and set up a maybe a board game meet up at that place oh the right the
one you just ran the things table um and we're also going to try and do d and d with tanner uh while we're
like all here together at least while paul bury me tristan uh are all together that's great so
i love it yeah it'll be fun yeah it'll be fun it'll be fun
Anyway, so hit me up October, the weekend of October 8th, and more details.
Just email me, but...
Details to come.
There you go, exactly.
Excellent.
All right, well, let's get to today's Tom Foolery, and that is to say game foolery.
Yes.
Not to be confused.
With a foolery with Tom.
Yeah, you don't want that.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for us to play a game, and we're going to do it with the one, the only Brian Dunaway.
Hello, Brian Dunaway.
Oh, hi, Scott and Brian.
Hi.
Hello.
Thank you for your patience.
We're running a little late today.
Oh, no, thank you.
No, I just been, it's all good.
I just been trying to, uh, to remain smelling good.
Oh, good.
We've had a, we've had a visitor here last couple of days.
And, uh, oh, every time, every time I go outside, it's kind of risky.
Oh, I think I know, I think I know who you're talking about.
I wonder if that caused a big butt ruckus while they're there.
Right, right.
Yeah, I was, uh, I saw a reverse pepipelet.
I came into work and there was like I was trying to come across the parking lot and I'm like oh that that cat looks odd.
I think and some people probably thought you were talking about maybe a certain political leader was driving through or something like that.
No, no, no, no, no.
But he was, yeah, there was, it was a skunk out in the parking lot.
So I stayed a healthy distance away from that guy.
But what made me laugh though is I was like, I just kept my eye on him.
And then all of a sudden at my peripheral, I'm like, oh, is there a second.
one. No, it was a little orange cat trailing the skunk. And I'm like, oh, this is not going to end well.
Yeah, we've seen that cartoon. We know how that goes. Somebody's orange cat is going to get a nice little tomato juice back.
Yeah. We'll never trust the French cat. Hey, it's good to have you here, man. We're going to, we're going to play a game. It is not Tad Pooley feud today.
No, no, I decided, no, we're doing the trivia countdown because that's what I, that's what I want.
because which you will there you go I like that reasons no I like doing this desires plus it also goes a little bit faster than feud what is that supposed to me is it oh no that's a good idea actually you know what maybe Mondays no I'm not saying we switch them but you know that's a good point we're always on on days where things are tight we'll switch to trivia countdown but typically Mondays for tributown yeah yeah all right I'm into it let's do it I want to play all right well here's how you play welcome to dogs have brains countdown style trivia game
Well, come on.
I got 20 questions across various subjects.
Science, art, entertainment, history more.
Scott and Brangner have to answer questions.
They get 90 seconds.
The answer as amazing you can.
Say pass if you don't know.
The most points wins.
You know how games work.
I'm glad you still have the passion.
This is the abbreviated instructions, by the way.
Scott, you're going to be playing for Tweep in our Patreon folks.
Love Tweep.
Tweep.
You know, the person responsible for me doing an infinity gauntlet that holds butt plugs.
Oh, no, that was, I always forget that was through Tweep.
It was a friend of Tweed.
Yes, let me clarify, it was not for Tweep.
It was for somebody Tweep knows.
Yeah, I heard you said what you said.
Brian, you're going to be playing for Nathan Bergen.
Oh, he's cool.
I like Nathan, cool, too.
They're both cool.
Full name, Nate is what we call him.
That's right.
Full name, Nate.
full name Nate.
All right, Brian, we're going to put you into a soundproof booth.
Go ahead and put yourself into a soundproof booth because that's how it works.
I don't know.
It was like a shud-r-a-mute site.
Al-Qabab, by the way, if you're listening, let's go ahead and make the title officially so I don't have to enter it every time.
Let's make it officially.
Do frogs have brains?
Set it again.
And let's set the timer permanently to 90 seconds or make the default 90 seconds.
So I don't have to change that one either.
Okay. All right. Here we go. I'm going to start the timer as soon as I asked the first question. Scott, if you are ready, we will begin. I am ready.
Okay. Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Spongebob square pants.

Yeah, exactly.
All right.
All right, let's, let's bring in Dunaway and, uh, this, and I do this, and I.
Very well, I shall release.
Hold on, looking for the time.
Hello.
Wait for it.
Oh, that's funny.
So we can still hear you when you can't hear us.
That's funny.
That's funny.
it. Yeah, I think so.
I'm here. All right.
Hello. Hi. Hello. Hello.
There you go. All right.
Yeah. We're back. Uh, all right. Welcome back. This is a little bit of a tougher round, as you can probably tell from Scott's score.
Yes, Scott's only got the doze. Yeah, that's right.
Exactly. So, uh, so good luck. I'm going to start the timer when I ask you your first question.
Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
Spreezebow square pants.
The timer did not start. That's all right.
Okay.
You could.
I was that to say, yeah, it is.
There you go.
What is the term for a shadow gallery of arches standing above the nave in a church or cathedral?
Pass.
Don't know that one.
What is the Latin term for the science of language?
Babel.
I don't know.
To which European city did renowned ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev defect in 1961?
Not Russia.
I don't know.
I pass.
Who wrote Sonnet 43, which begins, how do I love thee?
Let me count the ways.
Pepe Lepew.
In the financial world, the sense.
The initial CD are short for what?
Not compact disc.
Next.
Which British invasion ban played in front of 1.5 million people in Rio de Janeiro as part of their bigger bang tour in February 2006.
Stones.
In 1940, Ida Fuller received $22.54 in the mail, becoming the first recipient of what government entitlement?

The science of language is called linguistics.
Oh, duh.
Duh.
Yeah, yeah.
And the term for a shallow gallery of arches standing above a nave
and a church or cathedral is a triforium.
I've never even heard that one.
I don't feel bad about that one now.
I don't know that one either.
Oh my gosh, Dunnoway.
You doubled my score, though.
Four to two.
It's not a huge doubling.
I was going to say it was a pretty low score
to begin with.
Yeah, we're both doing well below 50%.
It was a tough, exactly.
I was going to say it was a very tough round.
But congratulations, Brian, you win.
And because of that, Nathan Bergen is getting a pair of games.
He's getting Dungeons and Dragons Dark Sun Series.
Nice.
And Godlike Burger.
Yeah, oh, good game.
Really fun.
Super fun.
Yeah, it's like time management and stuff we like, Brian.
Oh, good.
Like a diner dash.
Yeah, kind of that, but also, like.
like, um, it's like chaotic multiplayer stuff if you want it. That kind of thing. Oh, cool.
Really good. Cool. Yeah. Uh, but don't worry, Tweep, you are also getting a Dungeons and Dragons game.
You're getting the Ravenloft series. So you can play some D&D on your computer as well. Yeah,
Ravenloft's really good. Uh, excellent. Winners all around. In fact, I just say, this is what you
all get right here. You get a victory pickle. Good job. Well done. Uh, that is it for this.
Now, tonight at 4 p.m. Dunaway and I dig deep into play retro and watch retro.
Donaway, tell people what they can look forward to tonight.
Oh, tonight we're playing alien breed.
That's right.
That's a team 17 game, top down, gauntlet-looking thing that basically aped on the alien series.
Yep.
And I've had a ton of fun this week with Alien Breed.
One of my favorites from back in the day anyway.
I've had very little time with it, unfortunately, because I was out of town.
I'm had really no great way to play it.
But I'm going to do a bunch of that today before the episode.
That's tonight at 4.
Then stick around for Watch Retro.
We've got some cartoons to watch.
We're doing those on Discord now because Discord stages seem to be finally working properly.
And we can watch stuff that's a little more copyright sensitive in there.
Right.
Yeah.
Alien Breed's got their 35th anniversary coming up in the month.
That's reason why we're playing that this time around.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's big, big release for Commodore.
Commodore's back.
Celebrate with us, you jerks.
Yeah.
Dunaway, that's awesome. Kiss our butts. All right, he's out of here. That's it. That's it for him.
That's it. Now we move on to another person. Now we move on to the other guy. And that other guy whose name should be right here so I can pull it up. There it is. Okay. And then I push this button here. You know, I've been gone for a few days. Everybody, give me a break here. Okay. All right, here we go. Play this. Isn't technology wonderful? Oh, it sure can be when Tom Merritt's involved. And thank goodness he is. Tom Merritt, welcome to the program.
Thank you for having me, Brian and Scott.
Thank you for having us, Tom, and Merritt.
No, thank you for...
Where did you see BTS last night?
At Sofi Stadium in Englewood, California.
Oh, my gosh.
This is their second time they've been...
They've played Los Angeles in the last...
In this tour, right?
The auditor on tour?
No, they hadn't been to L.A., but yet...
Oh, okay.
So you saw them in different...
You saw them in different places for...
Yes.
Yeah, well, I know you try.
traveled far and wide. But for some reason, I thought they came through L.A.
They were in a different loss. The one with an A, Las Vegas.
Oh. Oh, that's it. Okay. Yep. Are you, uh, Bliscon's like two weeks away?
Mm. Are you, uh, doing the L'A. thing again, or what are you going to do?
Oh, right.
So, uh, because we're going to the actual concert that they're having in L.A., which is round
the same time. Okay. I just know how you are these days where it's like, no, I know. And I would
love to go to BlissCon. I did look at BlissCon tickets once it was confirmed that LaSerafam
was coming and I was like, yeah, I know, they're not, they're expensive. They're way more than
they used to be, which is a little annoying. There weren't like cheap versions being dumped by people
either, which is, you know, good for Blizzard, right? Sure, I suppose. Sporty Spice is touring the US as
part of her current tour and I was like very tempted to say, oh, maybe I could go see, if I can't
see all the Spice Girls, maybe I could at least see Sporty come into a
America, but it's too soon. It's like this month and I've already got so much stuff already
planned for this month that I can't do it. Well, Brian, you were right about that, uh, that sweat
album. It is, it is the most, it's good. It's good, but it's the most workoutie album I've ever heard.
It totally is. It's like, even the lyrics are all like, we're getting pumped up and sweating like
pigs and we're in the gym all day and whatever. It's like, it's like she said, what is the
album? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, what did you expect, Scott? I don't know what I expected.
It's like the posh spice album was too fancy for me, too. And the baby spice album is really just
nursery rhymes. It's just kind of cute. Yeah. Yeah, I liked it though. I thought it was an
interesting direction for her to do that. Kim listened. I think Kim listened to it at the gym today,
I believe. Oh, good. That's the appropriate place. Yeah. That's where it was meant to be.
Required listening there. Yes.
Well, it's good to have here, Tom.
We get these questions for Tom for our tech segment on Wednesdays.
And sometimes they're general.
Sometimes they're very specific.
I would say today's is a little bit general,
but it's also specific to a little bit of a tech regime change that just happened.
I think Tim Cook's last day as CEO at Apple was what last Thursday or something?
Yeah, I guess it had been Thursday or Friday.
Technically a Monday, actually.
Oh, really?
Oh, because 31st was yesterday.
Yeah.
Yeah, or I mean, Monday.
So on Monday, Tim sent his goodbye memo.
I mean, he's not leaving the company, actually.
He's still working there.
He's executive chairman.
But he'll be basically a glorified lobbyist.
His job is going to be working with government relations.
And then on September 1st, John Ternis, the new CEO sent his, well, hi, I'm here, memo.
I'm John Ternis.
I know who he was.
Well, John Ternis, who is taking over, spawn this question from a listener named Conrad K, wrote this in.
Conrad's cool name, Conrad K.
He says, hey, guys, I would love to hear Tom's predictions on what kind of CEO he thinks John
Turnus will be at Apple with Tim Cook leaving the post.
Any specifics regarding his style or leanings would be cool to hear about.
Thanks and keep on TMSing, Conrad K.
Pretty simple question.
I don't barely know a thing about this dude.
I kind of know his history at the company, but I'll bet Tom knows more.
So Tom, lay it on us.
What's John Turnus all about?
Yeah, he's interesting.
A lot of people have learned a lot of things about him in a short period of time since they announced that he was going to take over as the CEO earlier this year.
I don't have a lot of crazy predictions about what he's going to do.
I mean, who knows, right?
But I think a lot of times when these high profile companies have a CEO takeover, everyone thinks, oh, it's going to change.
and the board of directors usually don't appoint a new CEO because they want things to change
unless the company's doing badly, right?
You appoint Lip Butan as the CEO of Intel because you need to change things, right?
So in that case, yes.
But in the case of a successful company like Apple, yeah, there's a few things, especially in AI,
where they've taken criticism, maybe some design stagnation, but you want a steady hand.
So I don't expect a whole lot of things to be suddenly different.
I do expect every surprise that Apple puts out there to be like attributed to John Turnus,
whether it would have happened with Tim Cook in charge or not.
And so it's going to be kind of hard to tell, but I imagine you're not going to see anything wildly different.
One of the big things that everyone says is that they chose John Turnus because they wanted a safe pair of hands to keep guiding the ship.
That tells me they're like, they aren't looking for anything to be significantly different.
What I would expect is to see a lot of focus on hardware engineering.
I've seen a lot of people say that that would have to do with form factor in design,
and I would like that to be true.
I don't know enough about Ternus's effect or relationship with the design team to know if that's really what to expect.
But I would say we're going to see Apple run by a hardware engineer now, which means you're going to notice some things with their hardware where you're like, ooh, that's a, that's a cool choice if you're a hardware fan.
And it's not run by a supply chain expert anymore, which might be a bad time to lose your most senior supply chain magical expert.
But then again, he's still around, right?
He's still executive chairman.
So we may not see the magical ability for Apple to just weather all storms.
Even Ramageddon, Apple has weathered better than everybody else.
So you may see that sort of thing start to fade over time.
Not that they don't have great people working on supply chains,
but Tim Cook was kind of a magician at that.
So they may not have as much of an advantage there.
Those are the two main things I would expect to see,
is a few cool surprises with hardware that you're like,
you can tell this is run by a hardware guy now.
And maybe a few hiccups here and there that you wouldn't have seen component-wise, price-wise, shipping-wise.
I'm not predicting anything disastrous.
But a few of the things you're like, I bet that wouldn't have happened if Tim Cook was still in the CEO office.
So gone are probably the days of hire, you know, the, how do I put this?
There was a bit of freak out when Jobs was first let go by the board.
way back in the day and you bring in a Pepsi executive and it's like,
I got a whole new plan and blah, blah, blah,
and you just disrupt everything.
And then similar kinds of-
Power computing.
Yeah.
And then there was like a disruption in the other direction when they bring jobs back.
And it's like, oh, we're going to flatten the thing and start over and change the world
and everything, which he kind of did.
But the point is it was kind of tumultuous, right?
It was like, ah, holy shit, what are we going to do with all this?
this doesn't feel like that at all.
This feels like a very calm,
like you said, to hold the good hands to hold the ship.
Yeah, keep it going.
The inside into the hardware side of things is interesting.
I've heard a few friends go,
ooh, that could mean this.
They're doing so well with these silicon chips.
They could go this much further and do this.
And, you know, they have these specifics I can't think of right now.
But, but, you know, those are possible.
One other thing we didn't mention,
and I forgot his name,
Is it Schiller? Phil Schiller stepped down.
Yeah, that was going to be my next point, is that it may be more significant that
Phil Schiller is stepping away.
He's going to remain a fellow, which usually means like, call me up if you have questions.
Yeah.
But not actively working on anything, but I may be wrong.
Maybe Phil will have a pet project that will turn into something really cool that we all see.
But it does feel like it's a little bit more of a changing of the guard.
And I don't have a sense of how much longer Craig Fitter,
Regi will be in his position.
But I wouldn't, I wouldn't be shocked if in the next year or so we hear the same thing about,
well, Craig Federigi is becoming a fellow and pursuing individual products, projects.
Parkour his way right into another role.
Right.
And we're going to, we're going to learn some new names.
You know, we're going to, we're going to have some new memes about some new executives.
We might get a tip of the hat towards who those might be in this announcement.
We're going to have next Wednesday on September 9th.
It'll be interesting to see who steps up and speaks.
I don't expect John Turnus to say anything particularly significant next Wednesday.
I do expect everyone to over parse every single word out of his mouth and try to make it mean something.
And so it'll be interesting to watch both of those things.
If Federi Gie ever does step down, A, Brian's prediction about the park horse.
Yeah, he won't step.
He'll parkour.
We need that.
That needs to be a thing.
Like, let's say defects to Google or something.
I need him to parkour into Google.
You need to hop over railings.
Right out of Mountain View.
But I will also be a little sad if nobody wears their pants as high as he does.
That'll really bother me.
Apple needs one guy to wear his pants nearly to his nipples.
And if they're not, what are we even doing here?
Right.
It would be the end of an era.
It really would be.
High pants wearing.
At least if, you know, they wear them lower the bottom of the cuffs, they can fold because we know,
foldable is popular.
Oh, yeah.
There you go.
Yeah.
And we definitely are going to see a foldable next Wednesday.
That is not confirmed by Apple, but it is all but confirmed.
Right.
Right.
The foldable.
Their echo show killer.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Some kind of desktop robot assistant thing seems likely.
Yeah.
And Gemini power.
Here's one thing that is kicking around there that I don't know if people have paid attention to.
We may not see all the new iPhones.
One of the big things that German.
has been saying is that the regular iPhone, the standard iPhone, won't be announced until spring.
And so we'll get the iPhone Pro this month, but we won't get the iPhone Bogg standard iPhone.
So that will be interesting to see if German's right about that, because that would be a big shift of strategy to say,
well, the regular iPhone is now more of a bargain phone. And the flagship phone is the pro,
and that is the one we want to sell the most of at the holidays.
You used Bog Standard like a proper person who just visited London and used the word, the term Bog Standard.
I do like that.
I like that. I like that. I've only ever heard British people say it.
I didn't call the iPhone new kit.
No, no, you didn't.
Totally taken over.
Don't worry. It'll get there.
All right. Well, that's awesome. I actually am excited.
I'm excited when there's a changeover like this because it's just fun to watch.
It's fun to cover.
Yeah, it's interesting, right?
Like when Disney, here's a good comparison with Disney.
with Disney, they got rid of Bob Eiger, but he stayed around as executive chairman, and then
the new Bob didn't work out. They brought Bob Eager back. Now they've moved Bob Eiger back out.
They have a new younger guy who's very turnus-like, by the way.
Not one for one, but it's like, same generation, same general vibe. And it looks like he's going
to stick. So I kind of look at Apple. I'm like, oh, you avoided the Bob Cheapack problem.
And you've got your, you've got a new turnus at bat.
A turnus.
It's like a turnus key solution.
Yeah.
Hopefully they won't have to turnus cut him.
Yep.
And whatever his replacement for like, we loved how Tim Cook would say products instead
of products.
I'm going to miss that.
Yeah.
There'll be something new though.
Yeah.
I want whatever turnus is doing.
John Turner's is Gen X.
He's one of us.
Yeah, that's right.
He grew up on He-Man and freaking GI Joe, and he knows what's up.
This is your brain on drugs.
That's right.
10 p.m., do you know where your children are?
Yeah, he was in school when that first Mac classic or whatever the hell they called the first one showed up.
Yeah, yeah.
He knows.
He knows what's up.
He was around when the day after was the scariest thing on television.
Yeah, that's right.
That's right.
This is Lawrence, Kansas.
Is anyone out?
That and V watching that lady
Watching the V miniseries.
Yeah.
For the woman from Firefly was in the redo.
That's exactly right.
Morana Baccaran.
Brian's cat is named after it all comes together.
It's all full circle.
Laura Badler was the woman on the original V who ate them.
You knew the name of the original lady.
Her last name is Badler.
I can't remember her first name.
But yeah, the actress is something Badler eating that guinea pig.
Unhinging her john.
It messed me up, man.
I'll never forget it.
I rewatched that recently for Cord Killers' Full Experience.
Oh, my gosh.
How'd that go?
It was great.
It held up way better than I expected.
It's got, what's his name, Freddy Kruger in it?
Yeah.
I can't think of his name, but that guy.
Friday.
Yeah, Friday.
We just call him Friday now.
Can't think his name.
Robert England.
Robert England.
That's it.
Yeah.
Nicely done.
All right.
I think he's name is Robert United Kingdom.
Oh.
Wait, does he include Scotland?
I think there was a tree.
of Robert Union at some point.
Ah, gotcha.
Well, this is all well and good.
If he separates, is it called Frexit?
Yes, it's Frexit.
Yes.
Perfect. Love it. Nobody voted for that.
Hey, Conrad Kay, I want to thank him again for this awesome question.
And if you guys at home have a question like Conrad Kay, get it into us, the morning stream at gmail.com.
And we would be happy to pass it on to Tom for a segment.
Tom, what else are you passing on?
No, wait.
What else are you doing this week is what I really want to say?
Nothing's passing on.
Tom is not passing on. Lots of daily tech news show, folks.
In fact, the daily tech news show live stream is moving to Fridays from Thursday to Friday.
So if you like to watch our live stream, catch us on Friday.
And Scott Johnson is going to be on that first Friday show.
So that is not this week, but next week.
So a week from now.
Yeah, look forward to it.
It's going to be fun.
Can't wait.
Hang out with some old pals.
it's the only way I get to see half of them anymore.
I see Tom all the time.
But I don't get to see some of these other guys as often as I used to.
So I'm very excited about it.
Watch for that.
That's coming up soon.
Tom Merritt, he is ace detect on all the socials.
If you partake in such things anymore, some of us do.
Have a fantastic week.
And may all your dreams come true.
All right.
Bye now.
All righty, we did it.
We did it, guys.
We did it.
Here's what we haven't done.
this email from scuba geek
let's do this yeah
this is something about a sandwich deal
I've forgotten already because it's been
it's like three days old this email but I'm going to play
it in it we're going to do it anyway this is about the jugs of pee
he says hello sandwich and bread
it's pretty basic I like it
mm-hmm just go together
yeah they do absolutely do
scuba geek here listening to Tuesday's
episode 3058 and I have a couple
of things to share in the sandwich
industry within the United States
all households are within 15 minutes
of a subway. That's crazy.
Wow.
This is a factoid they shared with me
during an interview. They were telling me about their
subway fresh campaign.
They had just started to rebrand themselves.
I was interviewing with their chief
development officer and I made the comment, quote,
I'm guessing this time you're going to skip having a spokesperson.
I did not get that job.
I guess a little bit of a sore subject.
The whole...
Might be. Yeah. I'll bet they don't like bringing that up.
But anyway,
this is one little correction.
I'm not in the Pop Belly's marketing department.
I actually manage the new store development plan.
You better.
Way better. Do more of them.
I build market plans, identify areas across the U.S.
that would be a good fit for Pop Belly.
And I build the forecast and data analytics for the chain.
I'm one of those people that tracks cell phone activity
to determine where folks come from before they go to our stores.
Oh, so you're part of the surveillance problem.
What is your name, Scuba flock,
camera geek.
Are you watching her license plates and tracking her every move?
Sending it to the NSA, you bastard.
Anyway, he says this. I cannot reveal a lot, but I will say if you are wishing there were
more locations in Denver on Salt Lake City, your wishes will be coming true soon.
Yeah.
That's all I needed here. It's great.
As soon as I saw this, I'll let you go ahead and finish this and I'll say what I did.
And please just use my data to get more here.
I don't care.
Right.
Go.
Exactly.
It says also I keep getting bundles of free sandwich coupons from HQ.
Although I have no pot bellies here in Las Vegas, something I'm trying to correct.
I have stacks.
I can send you for giveaways or keeping that as all.
Keep them coming, Scooby Geek.
Woo!
Yeah.
You keep sending them?
We'll keep using them.
I'm going to use one today, actually.
Hell yeah.
So it's perfect.
Yeah, I did this quick search.
After I saw this email, pot belly adding like, I can't remember the number,
but adding a bunch of locations in the Denver area.
And our VADA is one of them.
So putting one that's going to be closer to me is happening.
It's happening, folks.
I'm so excited.
If he's saying, let's see, was it like a press release or something that you got or you saw or something?
It was in the Denver Post.
It was one of these articles that I got to read for a split second before it went behind a paywall before it said,
keep paying or pay money to read the rest of this article.
But before it disappeared, I saw Arvada Arroyo.
Aurora, Denver, and Westminster, I think.
I can remember the other, but it's a bunch of local locations.
Well, I am personally, I mean, I can't find anything for Salt Lake City, but whatever they're doing, let's go.
Yeah.
They're too far from me.
Put the one up the street that used to be there.
F the pandemic.
That wasn't your fault.
Reopen.
Oh, my gosh, dude.
I love their sandwiches so much.
I do too.
They're so good.
All right.
That's it for emails.
that came to us at the email address.
If you'd rather use the text thing, you can use the site.
Frogpants.com slash TMS.
It's all right there for the taking.

He's the middle child, if I remember correctly.
Anyway, it's so good.
It's a great cover, and it really showcases.
