Starting point is 00:00:00 The wild elephants of Africa have only one thing to say to you today. Also, support TMS today. Actually, kind of hurt. At TMS, sorry, at patreon.com slash TMS. Coming up on the morning stream, Sir Humpty Hump. Jason Robbins with two bees. Showing Tina the butt. A quickie-dicky.
Starting point is 00:00:22 The saddest win. Superman funeral tie. What am I wearing with Brian Dunaway? Bladder float. Frit bands really get me. My goat. Marriachi House enchiladas. Any printer can screw itself.
Starting point is 00:00:34 The prescription is more Oreos. Brian's Kathleen Turner phase. Mock COVID. For whom the highway tolls with Tom Merritt and more on this episode of the Morning Stream. It weighs about 500 pounds and is related to the rhinoceros and the horse. I want to lick this one like an envelope. The Morning Stream. You better watch your mouth right now.
Starting point is 00:01:08 You're on thin ice with me, son. Hello, and welcome to TMS. This is the morning stream for October 7th, 2026. I am Scott Johnson. That is Brian Ibitt. Hello. Hello. This is my voice. You're welcome to it.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Yep. Y'all want his voice. He's selling it on eBay for top dollar. That's right. What's left of it? I predict that it was. will be Saturday that you sound normal. That's my prediction.
Starting point is 00:01:41 Let's hope. I have to record one, maybe two film set songs between now and then. Oh, shit. Yeah. You got to do like yesterday's talk about what's the name?
Starting point is 00:01:54 Songs like that. I think it might be Kim Carnes will be one of them. And Stevie Nicks. That's perfect. That's perfect. Landslides and things. It'll be great.
Starting point is 00:02:05 Well, you're feeling okay, though, right? You're feeling all right. Yeah, feel fine. Yeah. 90, 95? Yeah, 90. All right. That's not too bad.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Yeah, still just on the edge of like, all right, this is normal. Yeah. Get out there and get your flu shots. My neighbor has, not you per se, but everybody listening. Well, you should too. That's right. You didn't go with Tina. I got to wait.
Starting point is 00:02:30 And, you know, Tolbert's listening. What is, how long should I wait? Two weeks after I feel. to get my flu and COVID shots? Yeah, how does that work? I'm curious. I know you're not supposed to get it done while you're feeling sick,
Starting point is 00:02:42 but how long after you feel well are you supposed to, can you do it? Get your flu shots, you can get them now, really. Even while he's still kind of slightly under the weather, all right. As long as you don't have a fever. Oh, okay. I got a fever. The only prescription is more Oreos.
Starting point is 00:03:00 I'll admit to something, though, when we get our shots at this pharmacy, they always say hang around the store for around 10 minutes, make sure everything's okay. Yeah, you never do. I think they all say, no, I just leave. I've done this like a hundred times. I'm good. I know.
Starting point is 00:03:14 I know. But they do give you $20 in-store credit for getting vaccinated. So sometimes we do stay and buy things. Exactly, exactly. It's a, you know, it's a nice little incentive, honestly. Yeah, it's not bad. That happened the first time. I did feel a little woozy when I got my first COVID shot.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Way back. Way back in the day. Remember when we were refreshing the pages of the King Supers or I was on air trying to see, oh, I found one. All right, I can get it today at 4 o'clock of the other side of town. And, but, yeah, that first one, and I don't think it was the shot. I think it was the shot giver because they really, I don't know, they really moved the knee.
Starting point is 00:04:03 They felt like they moved the needle around while it was in my arm more than they should have. And it was like the pain of it like, okay, that is not feeling good. They hit bone or anything, did it? I don't, probably not. That just gives me the worst willies. Yeah. Scraping bone with a needle tip. Oh, that's even worse.
Starting point is 00:04:24 Terrible. Yeah, taking a bone marrow sample there, Doc. Yeah, I remember feeling a little off to that first one, the COVID shot that we all got at the Expo Center. And so I sat down. They told you to sit down and be there for a while, right? Yeah. But I honestly, I think it's just me and my like, oh, we're doing the shot and everything's freaky. And we're all masked up and people are dying.
Starting point is 00:04:48 And I think I was just in that mode of like waiting for something to happen. So I think it was psychosomatic for me. For sure. Yeah. Because it never really bothered me. Like some people got, got, you can go get a COVID shot now and go, oh, I'm down for a day. It doesn't do anything to me. Oh, really? Yeah, I'm envious. I still get, uh, still get, feel like I have the flu for about half a day.
Starting point is 00:05:10 You get like mock COVID for six hours or whatever. Exactly. Yes. Yeah. And I got the only one that gave me a real hard time was the shingles thing. Oh, right. Terrible. Yeah. Freaking terrible. I'll never do that again. And thank goodness I don't have to. But man, it's sad. And maybe you'll breeze through it. Some people. I won't. No, I guarantee you. I will. If I feel, if I feel, I feel, I feel, I feel,
Starting point is 00:05:33 I don't feel like it's a, hey, for some people, the shingle shots a piece of cake and the others, the COVID. No, it is if the flu shot or the COVID shot makes you feel like you have the flu, oh, wait until you have the shingle shot. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That means maybe I got off easy and I still had a hard time. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Yeah. It was rough. All right. Let's get to a couple things. Jay Funktastic in our tad pool. Yeah. Might even be here today. I don't see him.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Maybe. He wrote in and said this, howdy Scott and Bronch. Ryan, I have been nominated by top host to have a six-episode podcast produced by IHeart Radio, win $25,000 and be on an episode of On the Air with Ryan Sechrest. Wow. I don't know what that, what is on the air? I have no idea. I imagine it's a, is it a Ryan Sechrest podcast where he talks to podcasters?
Starting point is 00:06:23 Probably. I don't know. Ryan Sechre's just a robot. People put him wherever they need him. I think so. He says, this is a huge opportunity. I need all the votes I can get. can you ask the Tadpool community to do me a solid and cast their votes for me?
Starting point is 00:06:35 They can cast a vote every day for the next 10 days. Oh, I just had a flashback of the Todd Cochran days. You just keep voting. Keep doing it. As of right now, I'm number two in my group. I appreciate everyone of the Tad Pooligans and Scott and Brian. You're both my podcasting heroes as well as, dare I say, friends. Of course.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Thanks so much. Here's a link to vote for me. So I'm going to give everybody this link. I'll put it in the chat rooms, but also say it out loud. It's a little longish, but it is tophost.org. slash 2026 slash Jason dash Robbins. With two bees and Robbins. Oh yeah, two B is good.
Starting point is 00:07:08 And it's important. So I'm going to put that in chats. And all lowercase probably is important too. But why isn't it, why is it visible only to me? What? Do you not have permission to copy and copy? In my own damn chat.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Oh, there we go. It worked. There it is. Okay. So that's, and I'll put it in the YouTube as well. So YouTube, here you go. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:07:30 You're down a fourth in your group. So I don't know what podcast What podcasters Just zipped ahead of you But oh boy I don't like that You should be currently in fourth Yeah we got to change this
Starting point is 00:07:41 So you just hit vote Yeah And then you can do free vote On the left You can You can pay to vote And do more votes They give you 10 votes
Starting point is 00:07:50 If you pay for them Yeah Don't show this to the Trump administration Oh god No kidding right They'll think this is a good idea Oh jeez They use
Starting point is 00:08:01 We decided to change the voting system, people. He could pay for more. Is any president ever? Figured this out. You know, maybe the cold has got one side effect is that I feel like I could do a little bit better Trump. It's a little closer to his aging thing he's doing. Yeah, I like it. Anyway, go check it out.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Voting is still corrupt, but you can vote. 20 bucks gets you 20 votes. But please mail in vote. Even though it's corrupt. Do it. 200 pesos. 200 votes. If you're Mexican, you can vote.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Toppost.org slash 2026 slash Jason dash Robbins with 2Bs. All right, everybody. Go help him out. Yeah. Help the brother out. Also, let's talk about another cool tadpillar doing something rad. Sure.
Starting point is 00:08:51 Gabbyty in our community. Did something cool. There's a quick shout out to an app called PickSleeve that he put together. He's been wanting to do this for a while. It puts just a handful. of your actual favorite photos inside of your phone, like we used to do in our wallets. Like back in the day, you'd have like a little flippy of like eight photos and they were your best ones. It was your best ones. It was like your parents and your dog and your girlfriend and your car. Yep. And it was simple.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Well, so is this and it's free. It's an iOS app. I don't think it's on Android, but if you're an iOS user, go search for pick sleeve and it keeps your actual favorites. No feeds, no ads, no subscriptions, no tracking just some old school nostalgia. That's very cool. That's a very cool idea because, yeah, I mean, you don't want to sit there and say, oh, hold on, let me show you this great picture of my wife and you have to scroll, scroll, scroll, or search and have it be wrong or even worse, not worse, but you can make play, right? You can make a group, a playlist of your own. That's not a problem. It's just, it's in that whole interface and it's just mixed in with everything. Like, this is just a nice
Starting point is 00:09:56 little quickie, quickie-dicky. So get in there. And get it done. Search for it on the app store. Pick sleeve, P-I-C-S-L-E-E-E-V-E, one word. Yeah. Happy to promote your cool projects, you guys. We like to hear about them. That's right.
Starting point is 00:10:12 So good job, Gabby. All right, Brian, we got a follow-up. Trivia started over again. You guys took the win and now, now what? So we took the win and we started over from the beginning. So game one of the new tournament was last night. and nine teams we competed against at the bar at the Alamo draft house. We went into Final Jeopardy with a 170,000 point lead or I'm sorry,
Starting point is 00:10:43 130,000 point lead or 120,000 point lead. So we had 170,000. Team behind us had 50 some thousand. So we didn't have to bet at all, but of course, to play in this. tournament, we have to bet it all. So we bet it all, and we won. And so we have, we actually got our highest score that we've ever got on a single night of Jeopardy, which is about 340,000 points.
Starting point is 00:11:09 Whoa, no software, sophomore slump from the last season. Geez. No, for sure. However, other people in the league, I don't know if they have an end. See, it all, really what it comes down to. Yes, getting all the questions right, doubling every single. daily double final jeopardy you get, all of those is important. But it's when you get those daily doubles.
Starting point is 00:11:32 You want to get those as late in the round as possible because you want to rack up the most possible points before you hit those daily doubles. Oh, I see. And the teams that are currently in the lead nationwide are in the like 420,000 point range, which means they had to hit those daily doubles like close to the end of their boards.
Starting point is 00:12:00 So here's what I'm saying. I'd like to pay somebody to play in New York or East Coast some bar jeopardy game in the East Coast and then text me and tell me where the daily doubles are hidden and then we'll pick those last in our games. Oh, perfect. Take advantage of those time zones. Not cheating at all.
Starting point is 00:12:20 No, no, no, no. It's just time manipulation. By the way, if anyone has any doubt, I am absolutely 100% kidding. Yeah. And never would I do something like that. That's horrendous. Big disclaimer. Yes.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Yes. That's great, though. Congratulations on a strong start. And the people there had no idea about how you're supposed to play the, to rank up the score in Bar Jeopardy, right? So, or Jeopardy Bar League. So people are doing the thing like, what they, get control of the board, they're going down
Starting point is 00:12:55 into those bottom two rows and daily double hunting like they're actually playing regular Jeopardy on TV. You don't want to do that. Doesn't matter. It doesn't matter to, it does not help you, does not benefit your game in any way, wait until
Starting point is 00:13:13 push those as far down as you can. So whenever we had control, we're like staying up at the top, get the top ones, you'll rack up the points first. You think that's just because some teams are just new and they know. Are they? Yes, 100%.
Starting point is 00:13:25 And those teams gasped when they got to final jeopardy and they saw that we actually wagered any points when all we had to do is just bet zero and we would have won. Like as soon as they saw that we bet everything, they're like, what? Why would you bet everything? It's like, because we need the points for the tournament. Yeah, for the tournament. Think further ahead. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Look outside your little tunnel vision there, buddy. Yeah. That's great though. Congratulations on that. Anyway, thanks. Strong start. And different food. And that's good.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Finally some different food. Tired of the wings. Love, you know, Buffalo Wild Wings make some good wings, but tired of the wings. Yeah, it's like working there. You don't want to eat there every day. No. No fun. All right, guys, I'll tell you what is fun.
Starting point is 00:14:12 This. Half the reason at least that it's fun is because Brian Dunaway joins us. Hi, Brian Dunaway. Oh, well, hello. Hi. Hi. He's gotten right. Hey, how are you, man?
Starting point is 00:14:29 What are you doing? I'm doing good. Let's see. It's hump day. Oh, yeah, it is hump day. Have you humped yet? Get out there. I did.
Starting point is 00:14:40 I did. This morning I was like, let's do this. I made my morning humping symbols. And then I, then I headed off to work. Sweet. What are the humping symbols? Yeah. You teach us those?
Starting point is 00:14:51 Yeah. Oh, you don't know how to hump. You just thrust your loins. Well, yeah. It's kind of like doing the, it's kind of like doing the, it's kind of doing the, the Humpty Humped. But you just got, yeah, it's close.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Do you have to put the gold nose on to do that? Yeah, I do. I do. That tickles the girls, I believe. Yeah. What he says in the song. Oh, is that what he says? All right. Really?
Starting point is 00:15:11 Okay. I didn't know that. I didn't think they like to be tickled down there. No, I think they, uh, whatever. He's, what's his name? Umpty hump. No, his name isn't a humpty hump, is it? His name is what I call him.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Oh. Yeah, his name was Humpty Hump, wasn't it? Was that what he called himself? No, I think it was it. is Sir Humpty Humph. Oh, well, he's knighted. He's knighted. The queen laid Excalibur upon his shoulder.
Starting point is 00:15:35 That's right. All right. Well, hey, let's get to it. We got a game to play. It's called the Tad Pooley feud, and Brian Ibbett has all the rules right there. That's right. It's time to play the Tad Pooley feud. I've surveyed the Tadpool on some nerdy topics. And Scott and Brian are going to have to predict the answers they gave us. It is their
Starting point is 00:15:51 job to see how many of those answers they can guess. At the end of the game, we're going to add up all the points. The wind will actually be winning prizes, for their listener, contestant, and contestants have been pulled from our supporters at Patreon. Patreon.com slash TMS. Scott, you're going to be playing for Benjin 0-06. Sweet, we love Benjian. Good guy.
Starting point is 00:16:11 Yeah. Yes. Brian, you're going to be playing for Albert Maher. Yeah. Oh, Albert Maher. Yes. Yeah. Maher, I hardly know.
Starting point is 00:16:21 We know both of these people. These are, yeah. These are regulars, man. Yeah, they are. I'm going to say. Regular. Regular. I'm not saying I want to lose, but the loser's getting the coolest game. It's such a red game. Yeah, it's so good. I mean, it's just a personal favorite.
Starting point is 00:16:34 I looked at these other two games and I'm like, oh, these look cool. I almost grabbed them for myself. And depending on, you know, what they, what the person has for technology. You may get that second one anyway. You may get that second one anyway. What you have for technology. I like that. It'll make more sense as we get to it. Yep. What do you have for technology? All right. Put your hands on your buzzers and give me your best answer to this. We ask 450 tadpullers, what is
Starting point is 00:17:02 a piece of clothing that you... Brian? Shirt. There's more to the question? You pause for so long. Oh, number seven. All right, let me hear that full question.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Yep, I'm going to give us got the full question. What is a piece of clothing that you dread having to shop for? Oh. Oh, that was a little harder than I thought. Suit. A suit. Boy, that second part of that question really made it a lot harder.
Starting point is 00:17:37 It did. It really changed it. Suites or modifier. Formal wear number three, dress shirt, number seven. So, Scott, you have got control of the board. All right. I do hate shopping for stuff like this. So this shouldn't be that hard.
Starting point is 00:17:50 But maybe I'd different. Yeah, it's always. Yeah, because you don't ever, you rarely. go because you want to. Yeah, it's almost always my wife is pulling me there. All right. Does she make you like go in the changing room, change, and then come out and show her so then she can decide if it looks good on you?
Starting point is 00:18:08 No, but there have been times where I was sure a shirt was crap. And I'm like, why do you want me to wear this? They're totally in, she'd say. And I didn't believe her. So I would put it on and then come out and show her that and say, I do not believe you still. This looks like garbage. And she's like, no, it looks good. And I'm like, I'm not buying it.
Starting point is 00:18:26 I've been conditioned by Tina, then I still have to come out. Like, unless it's like a pair of pants, I'm like, now these look fine. Or, well, even those, it's like, all right, I can't see the back. How does it look in the back? I'll go out and show her that. Sure. But, but, yeah. How does my butt look?
Starting point is 00:18:42 Exactly. Just my butt look big of these pants. And she says, your butt looks big in every pair of baseballs. Why didn't say, tell me my ass was so big. Yeah, exactly. Right. Okay, so I'm going to try to, I'm going to be a lady for a minute. I'm a be, I'm a be. I'm a be. I'm a be. I'm a be. I'm a be. I'm a be. I'm a be. I don't think they like it.
Starting point is 00:19:02 God be a lady tonight. I don't think they like going in for like dress sizing and stuff. I think that looks like a pain. So I'm going to say dresses. All right. Show me dresses. Oh, what? Yeah. No, the ladies love shopping for the dress. I was trying to connect to the ladies and understand. I understand there, you know, but I apparently I'm wrong. 12. Number 12, just out of the, just out of the board, just off the edge of the board. All right. What you got, Brian?
Starting point is 00:19:32 Nobody says, hey, let's go shop for socks. You're always like, uh, I need some freaking socks. Yeah, that's true. And they're always so much more expensive than you think they should be. Yeah, yeah. Stupid socks. All right. Sealed up tubes of cloth. Uh, all right.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Show me, show me your socks. Number eight, good points. Really good points. I didn't see that. Weird. I thought that would have been like number one. All right. Well, I'm not going to try to pretend like I'm a lady.
Starting point is 00:20:04 So I'm going to go with, he's like, oh, no, I got to get a tie. Oh, no. Do I get a fat tie? Do I get one of those cool, thin 80s ties? What color does it be hazley? I go with a fun thing on it. It's a funeral. Are people going to hate me for wearing a Pac-Man tie?
Starting point is 00:20:28 Probably. I don't care. Is the Superman logo okay for this funeral? That's right. All right. Show me. Oh, you kidding me? Are you?
Starting point is 00:20:40 Ty number 14. No, my gosh. Number 14. You're so close. Too low. Too low. Can we try? I can't believe we had two strikes out of naming pieces of clothing.
Starting point is 00:20:55 I mean, come on. I mean, how many clothing pieces are there? I mean, it's kind of the socks zone, but I'll say underwear. Sure. Say underwear. That's smart. Yeah. Say underwear.
Starting point is 00:21:06 Can you guess the color of my underwear? My panties. It is number five. Wow. It is number one. All right. Yeah, I know. This is going to be weird.
Starting point is 00:21:19 I still want to say a lady thing because my. My wife hate shopping for him, so I'm saying it. Braws. They hate shopping for the bras. Okay. Yeah. No one makes a bra the way they want. They hurt or they're wrong or they're whatever.
Starting point is 00:21:30 I also agree. I hate shopping for bras. Yeah, I don't like doing. As a guy, I hate going shopping with Tina for bras. Yeah. Yeah. We all hate it.
Starting point is 00:21:37 All right. We all right. Okay. Come out. Let me, let me make sure it looks good. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:40 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Number four. Okay. There you go. Still lowered and I thought it would be. Uh,
Starting point is 00:21:48 that's what you're doing it wrong. Oh, you mean? on the lady, you mean, I got you. On the board. Oh, I know what I hate. And I just refused to, I'm not going to try anything on. But I hate it because then I don't try them on.
Starting point is 00:22:02 And then later I'd go swimming, they didn't fit. Oh, sure. So I'm a swim suit. That's what Kathy would say. Swim where? Swim where is the general term. Yeah. Kathy agrees with you.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Every spring. Act. Actually say ac. Act. She was absolutely say ac. And little beads of sweat go shooting. projecting out of her head, projectile sweat. Very, very anime.
Starting point is 00:22:25 Every panel had something about that. Every effing panel. Number nine. Oh, wow. Holy crap. I'm glad I got the points, but lower than I thought it would be. I know. One and two is completely evading you.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Wow. Well, we haven't said if shirts is on here. I mean, we got dressed shirts. Pants. Let's just say pants. I don't know. Oh, yeah, people do hate to shop for the pants. It's like, what size even?
Starting point is 00:22:56 Yeah, these are two bellbottomie. Why are these shorter? These are flooded. Oh, these are clean jeans. Pleats are horrible. I don't like pleats or I do like pleats for some reason, which is the wrong answer. But when will skinny jeans finally fall out of fashion? Right.
Starting point is 00:23:09 So I can stop. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Show me pants. Dress pants. Number one answer. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Dress shirt and dress pants. That makes sense. Yep. Yeah. All right. I'll say shoes. Sure. There it is.
Starting point is 00:23:23 I was going to say shoes. That was my next one. I don't like shopping for shoes. I just like to say, you have 11 and a halfs. Those look good. I'm out of here. Exactly. I think I might be the fastest shoe shopper.
Starting point is 00:23:34 I'm always exhausted when I leave after shopping shoes shop. Yeah. There's something very sapping about it. I don't like that. I like walk down the aisle at DSW. I grab the shoes as I'm walking. I try them on on my way to the checkout stand. And it's like I'm always moving.
Starting point is 00:23:55 You never miss a step. You just keep going. Exactly. My wife loves shopping for shoes, by the way. And so if she hears this, she can be mad at me. She freaking loves it like it's a party. Tina. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:04 I don't get it. No. Anyway, let's see. Show me shoes. Okay. Number two. Okay. Look, we've only got to get two.
Starting point is 00:24:13 We still got four strikes. We've only got to guess two more, Scott. Yeah. Two more. A couple of mystery slots here. Because I feel like I've run out. out of clothes. Geez.
Starting point is 00:24:27 I mean, we already said pants. Can I ask the judge? You don't have to tell me this if you don't want to, but are pants, like all kinds of pants lumped into dress pants? Nope. Just dress pants.
Starting point is 00:24:38 Like your dockers and things like that. Okay. So we have other. There are other pants. There's potential for other pantalooms. Yeah. Potential. Potentalumes.
Starting point is 00:24:46 Yes. Other pant or pants. Pantlones. Patlone. What else is there? What am I wearing? Let me see. I have some skinny jeans.
Starting point is 00:25:00 I have some skinny jeans. I have some skinny jeans. I'll say jeans. Yeah. Jeans good. Good call. Show me jeans. Like Sidney, who has good jeans.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Yeah. All right. Number six answer. People hate shopping for jeans. Almost, you know, obviously not as much as dress pants. But what's some modern equivalent? of J.C. Penny Wrangler gene shopping you have to do with your mom when you were
Starting point is 00:25:24 kids during the 80s and 70s. J.C. Penny's still here, but I think it's just Walmart or Target. Unwashed. You don't understand people in the days before there were pre-washed jeans. You just went in and you bought a bolt of gene fabric.
Starting point is 00:25:41 Yeah. They were a furnished pants, but they were so stiff. They were so freaking stiff. It was like you're putting on a postage stamp. It was like. What were they Tough skins is the thing they were trying to jam down our throat. Tough skins. Yeah. On our huffy bikes.
Starting point is 00:25:55 Oh my gosh. Sears suckers. No, that's a different thing. You would go to Sears though. Let's say, okay, it's still me, right? One answer left. We're about to fill the board here. You've already won, but now is the chance to win.
Starting point is 00:26:10 Good job. Good job. To win prizes for both contestants. I can't get 15 points for that last one. No. You cannot. You can get 10. All right.
Starting point is 00:26:24 It swims. Oh my gosh. I'm so out of stuff. I don't know. What am I wearing? What am I wearing? Again, move back to what I'm wearing. We're wearing shirts, t-shirt.
Starting point is 00:26:36 No one's going to say t-shirt. I'll say a t-shirt. I don't know. That's kind of a... It'd be formal wear. Is that formal wear? Yeah. Nobody said tuxedo, but if they did,
Starting point is 00:26:47 I would have limped it into formal wear. What about Tennessee tuxedo? Did anybody say that? Um, Shumley. Chamley. All right. I know. I do I get that.
Starting point is 00:26:56 This isn't going to be right. I'm wearing glasses. That's not clothes, but I don't, I can't think of anything else. So I'm sick glasses because it's a tadpole. Maybe they said it. Sure. Absolutely. Show me glasses.
Starting point is 00:27:05 Damn that. Ooh. Show me your glasses. All right. Done away. You can take this to the, take this to the two winners at the same time or whatever. Most of these have been like I hate dressing up. So, uh, I tried tie.
Starting point is 00:27:20 and that wasn't on there. So I just don't know if belt would be. Oh, that's a good one. I hate, I hate belt shopping. I do too, but worse than tie shopping? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:27:30 All right. I'm just going to say belt. I'm going to belt it out. Show me a belt. Oh, it took a long time. You took so long. I clicked it.
Starting point is 00:27:41 The system's a little laggy sometimes. Oh, I love that. All right. So not the belt. I like to think al-cabob's on the other end, like pushing buttons and stuff. And sometimes it's slow.
Starting point is 00:27:50 Like pulling a lever. Yeah. I was, I was drinking. Beep. Now, the one thing I hate mine, I live in the southern part of the United States and is mostly always hot. And when we dress up, it's always, well, you should get one of them fancy jackets. And I'm like, it's going to be hot. A fancy jacket.
Starting point is 00:28:12 It's going to be hot. So I'm going to say dress jacket. All right. All right. Show me a jacket. Oh shit. Coat slash jacket. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:28:24 Nailed it. I was going to go like, what was even left? Like hats or something? Hats. Hats was on the list. Yeah, let's see. Going down the list. A scarf.
Starting point is 00:28:35 Shorts, sweaters, adult diapers. Adult diapers. Oh, I hate shopping for those. It's the worst. Let's see. Compression socks, but I didn't. I love that into regular socks. I patch.
Starting point is 00:28:48 A bitch. You could tell the tadpulis wants to be difficult. You know they could win for easy ones. Oh, yeah. No other jewelry. Just ring. Just ring. Yes.
Starting point is 00:29:02 One ring. I like it. And then your mom was the last. Oh, very good. Very good. Shopping for your mom or with your mom. Just buying your mom. Oh, not in this economy anyway.
Starting point is 00:29:14 They're so expensive. Oh, gosh. So congratulations, both winners. Yeah. Chicken dinners for both. So here's the deal. Winner is Into the Radius VR and Sirento VR. And... But that just depends on whether Benjian's got a headset or not.
Starting point is 00:29:35 That's right. Benjin, I mean, really, if Benjian doesn't have a headset, if Albert Maher doesn't have a headset, then we'll give them other games. But Old Man's Journey is the runner up, and then we'll throw another game in there. It'll be Talis Noir is the other game. Oh, I don't know that one. Old Man's Journey is very good, though. I can tell you that. His Journey is very good.
Starting point is 00:29:55 Love that. That's that one. Something noir. Talis, Talis Noir. I'm sure what that is. Sounds cool. I've got to redeem these by February 27th, 2028.
Starting point is 00:30:08 There you go. No, I'm sorry. February 28th, 2027. There you go. This says redeemed by 28, Feb 27, which threw my brain off.
Starting point is 00:30:16 Yeah, through mine. Because I sort my, like, folders I name like that so it's year, month, day. Right. This is the European style. Yeah, and those people, they don't know what they're doing. The Europeans. It does not have a headset.
Starting point is 00:30:28 So Benjin will get Old Man's Journey and Talus Noir and then if you don't mind reaching out to Albert. If he has... Sure. I'll ask and if he does not, we'll dig up two more. We'll get two more. Yeah. We'll make sure everybody wins today. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:44 And Albert, if you do have one, friend me on the, whatever they call the service now. Well, the, oh, the meta quest business? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Kind of curious. Are my friends with you on the meta quest, Brian? I think you are.
Starting point is 00:30:58 I think I am too, but I've been in there in ages. Scott never answers me. I've sent him so many messages in there. I currently use no meta devices. I have no idea what's going on with meta these days, but I should probably figure it out. All right, nicely done. I know that they made the band of muse have to give up their social media. did that happen?
Starting point is 00:31:20 Yes. I wondered about that. I was kiss. I saw a headline about that. So it did go through. So wait, they forced, forced them or they should have paid them? Hopefully they paid them. Nobody, it was not reported if, if Muse got a money for.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Do you know who I do like? Muse. I like you. I don't like. I love the band. Meta. Exactly. Meta.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Meta muse. Meta. More like metamusel. All right. That's, that's going to do it for, for Brian. done away there. Hey, thanks for hanging out. Tonight, we're going to get together again on Play Retro. Don't worry, everybody. We'll do it live. 4 p.m. Mountain Time.
Starting point is 00:31:54 We're going to get together and we're going to play some old-ass video games. Welcome to Halloween time. Brian, tell them what we're playing. Absolutely. We're playing a classic eternal darkness, sanity's requiem. Rectum right there on the game Cube. GameCube all-timer, that game. Nice. That's awesome. I never played before until Scott suggested it.
Starting point is 00:32:15 And I am impressed. It's really good. holds up even now and how they never could figure out how to do a follow-up is crazy to me. But we'll get to all that tonight and watch retro after that. It'll be lots of fun. And I got a lot of crap this week for accidentally saying Silicon Knights instead of Silicon Knights. Silicon Nights. Silicon versus Silicon.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Silicon Con. Silicon A. Silicon A. Silicon A. It feels like something Randy would tell us. Now coming to the stage, Silicon.
Starting point is 00:32:46 Yeah. Well, the pleasure has been ours done away, and I hope that the rest of your day is one that is filled with joy, happiness, and of course, more podcasting. I don't know you. Yeah, no, you stay out of trouble. I can't find your thing. This is bad. There we go. Here you guys.
Starting point is 00:33:02 All right. Hey, everybody. Why is my email in front of everything? That did not go the way I planned. We're going to get all technical in here for a second. And how we're going to do that is with our old pal, Tom Merritt, if I can find his intro, we'll play it and then we'll bring him in. Here we go. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:33:19 Isn't technology wonderful? It sure can be. But only when Tom's here. Hi, Tom. How are you? I am your old pal. You are my old pal. Or VHS.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Yeah. I'm cross-platform. You're my beta max. No. My MTSC or whatever it was. Hello, Catherine de Nue-Vibbit. Oh, hello. Thank you for covering for me for daily music headlines the last two days.
Starting point is 00:33:43 How could I refuse with that voice? Yes. Yeah, you can't turn right now. some scenes from body heat. Ooh, no, don't do that. Is that the one with the ice, all the food and everything? No, that was nine and a half weeks. One of a half weeks.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Body heat's one with the, what's her face? Oh my God, her name just went out my head. But then it's the Hulk colonel guy too. John Hertz and her, or not John, William Hurd. William Hurd. Kathleen Turner. Thank you. Kathleen Turner.
Starting point is 00:34:11 Chandler's dad. I think so. Wasn't that the deal? Catherine, Kathleen. You know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's why they were occupying that space in your brain. That's right, exactly.
Starting point is 00:34:23 Well, Tom. Yeah. Did you hear about the passing of Eve Marie Saint? No, I did not. That happened today? 102 years old. Yesterday. Oh my gosh, really?
Starting point is 00:34:32 Yeah. If you had told me this earlier, I would have said that she was probably long gone. 102. Yeah. Wow. She, last, last acting role was 2019. Kid me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:43 No. Born. The Wikipedia's page says she was born July. 4th. Oh no, that is right. 1924. The 4th of July. Wow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:52 She really ran out the clock, man. Grand Prix and North by Northwest. Yeah. Yeah, look at that. Marlon Brando and on the waterfront. Oh, yeah. That was a big deal. I heard that was a big deal.
Starting point is 00:35:05 Yeah. Hateful rain. That was a good movie. I like that one. And the rest of these, I don't know what these are. Anyway, but yeah, look at that. That's quite the thing.
Starting point is 00:35:13 Amazing. I've also sad, I guess. but not really, 102, dude. No one lives to that. Yeah, exactly. At that point, you're like, wow, I hope you were in good health to the end. Right, exactly, yes. Or just take me now kind of thing, you know?
Starting point is 00:35:28 Anyway, well, congratulations to her. Hey, let's get to today's the inappropriate response. Let's get to today's question for Tom, a, a, speaking of dying. A technical question from Chuck Byers, who we hear from quite a bit here on the show. Chuck. Chuck's good dude. He says, hey, yins guys, because he's from, you had me at Yins. Wherever that is.
Starting point is 00:35:52 Pennsylvania? Is it Pennsylvania? I can't ever remember. Here's a question for Tom's tech time. About 40 years ago, Tom Selleck told me that one day I could drive on a highway and never stopped to pay a toll. Well, that has been a reality for about 20 years now, and I still don't completely understand how that works.
Starting point is 00:36:09 It's called freeway. They just don't charge. Yeah, they're free. I know what Chuck Matt. Fair enough. He says, I carry this. little box in my car with apparently now moving parts or, sorry. Probably no, yeah, I think he means no moving parts.
Starting point is 00:36:23 No moving parts or power source, yet it knows when I go through the toll area and charges my account for the toll. Tom, please explain how this works in the only way you can. Well, I don't know if it's the only way I can, but yeah, there are two types of these automatic transponders for paying your tolls. The older ones do have a battery. It's just a very long-lasting lithium ion battery. nine to 14 years. And they all basically use a version of ultra-high-frequency RFID. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:56 So the same thing that's in the clothing tags that set off the alarm when you're trying to steal them. Trying to get out of American Eagle. Sarah Ibbin. Yeah. I shop at dress barring, Tom. Thank you very much. Yeah, it's the same technology, but it's ultra-high frequency. so that it can reach the little, you know, scanners that are above the highway.
Starting point is 00:37:20 But I think the ones Chuck are talking about are newer, which are self-powered. They're just little stickers. And they actually use the power of the scan. So there's the, you know, the transmission to detect the actual tag powers the device enough. And it's just a little sticker with circuits in it. It uses the actual power of the radio. radio waves of the light waves coming down to the sticker to provide just enough power to answer. And that's why it doesn't have to have a battery source at all.
Starting point is 00:37:55 Now, in my car I've got, so I started out with one of the stickers because we have toll roads in Colorado, a big loop that goes around the city that's toll. And I started out with one of the stickers. If you pay a little bit more, you get a box that lets you get HOV for free. Right. And if I switch the, it's just a little plastic slider. And if I switch it, a little red tab comes out of the bottom, which I'm guessing is like a blocker when it's up. But then it comes down, it unblock something.
Starting point is 00:38:28 But I don't know if that, if I've got the long lasting battery version or if it's the kind of like you're describing that is. Yeah, I suspect the red tab coming out may just be for your own visual confirmation. Oh, just to let me know that it's, yeah. It may not. There may be something there too, but it's not necessary to have that. I think for you to be able to select different types of frequencies, you probably got a battery powered one. We have those in Southern California, too, where you can say like, oh, I've got three people in the car. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. So, yeah, I think those are the older battery powered ones just because you want to be able to do the switching. And it just, it's not that you couldn't do
Starting point is 00:39:11 stickers that do that, it's just a little clunkier to try to figure out how to make that. So they probably are just using older technology for those, but the stickers are there when you don't need to be switching between stuff. So yeah, the stickers, they're, it's called, what is it called? It's called a pump, some kind of charge pump. It's a charge pump. Even though it's not a pump, you know, like a water pump, it just takes in the radio waves and like the physical way it's built circulates the radio waves enough to generate just enough power
Starting point is 00:39:46 to send a response back. Wild. Almost like slingshotting around the sun in Star Trek 4. Except in a little sticker. Wow. They really got a lot smaller over the last 30 years. Yeah. Yeah. They pulled that off.
Starting point is 00:40:02 So we don't have toll roads here, but we have a kind of hardcore hyper-enforced what do you call it? Yes, HOV lane. Moral code. Oh, HOV. Yeah, the HOVL lane.
Starting point is 00:40:16 And it's got some technologies that try. It's not RFID. I think it's camera-based stuff, but it tracks, like it'll report you if you are in that lane and it's just you and you don't have a passenger. Yeah. But that probably is everywhere. But that's as close as we've gotten to any of the stuff.
Starting point is 00:40:32 That is the other the other way. Blow up dolls. Yeah. Yeah. I've never really. I always kind of wanted to try that. The other way you can do tolls is by license plate recognition. And a lot of times that's how tolls are collected for visitors who don't have the transponders.
Starting point is 00:40:48 They just scan the license plate, look it up, send you a bill. There's a toll road that goes down to San Diego on the way from Los Angeles to San Diego, which cuts 20 minutes off your trip. But you have to pay the toll. And the last time, they keep changing it every time I go through. so I'm not sure. I don't want to, because it's been a while
Starting point is 00:41:09 since I was on it, it may have changed since the last time. But the last time I went through, it just said, go to this URL to pay your toll after you get where you're going. You know,
Starting point is 00:41:19 don't try to do it while you're driving. But you would go to a website, put in your license plate, and they would say, oh, yeah, you went through at this time, right? Confirm here and pay. And it was just scanning license plates
Starting point is 00:41:30 for everybody. You didn't, you didn't, there was no transponder system there. Right. Interesting. So, so,
Starting point is 00:41:36 the original Tom Selleck thing, though, wasn't the idea? I thought he just told me I could sell my old gold for cash. I thought it was just a cannonball run thing. We're like, you don't have to pay any tolls. Just keep driving fast. Yeah, because my memory of all of that was that one day, we're not going to have to. Desperate Reynolds.
Starting point is 00:41:54 Like one day we're not, you were just thinking mustache as I have. No mustache. Exactly. Yeah. But I thought from that, my impression as a very young person was, oh, one day no one will pay tolls, which is already a foreign idea. me and still is because we don't do it here.
Starting point is 00:42:07 I was going to say, like, I never grew up with tolls in southern Illinois. Yeah. I think there may have been some in Missouri somewhere. But, yeah, it was not a thing. That was a Chicago thing. Chicago and coastal cities. You have to pay tolls to drive on the road. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:42:22 Yeah. And so as a result, I just thought he was saying, we'll be free of this tyranny one day when no one has to pay anything. And all we did was just put it into a technology that auto pays it. That's all we did. So he was right, really. Back to the future taught me we won't even need roads. Yeah, and where we're going.
Starting point is 00:42:39 Who needs them? All right, well, that's very interesting. Yeah. Are the, the flock camera stuff, do they do anything with this? Like, do they have any, no? No. No, it's just license plate. Okay.
Starting point is 00:42:56 I mean, other than like some of the toll roads do license plate recognition, which is also what flock says it's doing. Yeah, I don't think they use flock cameras for life for the toll rooms. Boy, they're getting all those out of Arvada. Just like a big uproar about the flock cameras in Arvada. Oh, it's bad everywhere. That good dude lives here.
Starting point is 00:43:16 He has... Mr. Flock? Mr. the founder of the flock. Joe Flock. Or no, is it... He may have moved. Anyway, he's got some connection here. People have been treating like one of his properties like a toilet.
Starting point is 00:43:29 Just like doing terrible things to his house. Because they just really... Like plunging it. Cleaning it. Yeah, lots of, like, you know, jobs that need doing around the house, that kind of thing. Just kindness. Replacing the bladder float. But some of these people, is that a thing?
Starting point is 00:43:46 Is it called a bladder float? I just made that up. You're talking about that thing in the back, right? Yeah, yeah. I know it's a float, but I can't remember the... I like bladder float. That's pretty good. I like that a lot.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Also, what I like is... You relieve your bladder in it. All the other stuff Tom gets up to during the week is also fun of here. So Tom, tell us more. What's going on? I have so much fun coming this month. This is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Are you aware? I didn't know that.
Starting point is 00:44:14 Well, I fulfilled by purpose then. I've made you aware. I guess the point isn't to make you aware that this month is cybersecurity awareness month. The point is to get you aware of good security practices online. And to that end, starting the Sunday, we're running a three-part series on Daily Tech News show on how to protect yourself. in the coming scampocalypse that we are in the midst of, thanks to these generative models that make it easier and easier to fool all of us.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Brian Brushwood, who you probably know as a magician, which, you know, he's got an end on knowing how to fool people, is also becoming a security consultant for companies to help them understand how to resist fishing attacks, where someone tries to trick you into giving away your secure materials. So we're doing a three-part series, one every Sunday. This Sunday is all about where we've come from. What is social engineering?
Starting point is 00:45:12 How does it happen? Why, it's dangerous for any of us to think we can resist it. The whole point of it is we can all be fooled sometimes. So it's how do you prepare yourself for that time when you're about to be fooled? Next week, we're going to talk about the things you can do now. And then the third part will be about what can you do? to prevent yourself from these ever-increasing AI-powered, sophisticated attacks. So that's every Sunday on Daily Tech News show.
Starting point is 00:45:41 If you're not already getting DTNS in your feeds, you might want to do it now. Pretty damn timely. I like it. I'm kidding. Yeah, this is a great. Perfect thing. If you want to send Tom questions here for the show, too, send those the morning stream at gmail.com, and we will pass them on.
Starting point is 00:45:55 Yeah, I love this one. That was a good one. Yeah, it was really, really good. Congratulations to Tom on his fantastic visage. I don't know what that means. Good to have you here. I hope we get to see you again, hear you again, and have you on again. Because that's what we do on Wednesdays.
Starting point is 00:46:10 Tom, stay out of trouble and may your username and clean feet always be caps. Bye now. Thank you. So I learned something today. What? You know, on your windshield, you've got around the edges, like a darker area of your windshield. And then between your two visors behind your rear view mirror, there's like usually dots or another shaded area. It's an antenna, right?
Starting point is 00:46:31 It's called the frit band. and it's a ceramic border that protects the UV rays from destroying the glue that holds your windshield to the car frame. I thought it was sometimes an integrated antenna. Sometimes there's an antenna, I think, that goes around the outside. I like how phones do it where they embed them in the frame.
Starting point is 00:46:55 But it's also where they want you to put your transponder and those stickers because there's nothing there like there is on the rest of your windshield that can block the RFID for the reader. It's really interesting. Interesting. But it's called
Starting point is 00:47:15 the frit band, F-R-I-T. I like that. Yeah. Eat too many fretters. You need a frit band. You need a frit band. You're going to bust your Cole's belt that you hated shopping for. I watched the video this morning of a lady, she runs a farm, she does
Starting point is 00:47:32 YouTube videos around farming stuff and I watched her put a rubber band on a goat's testicles to castrate it. Oh! And she did it the slow way. So the way you do it is apparently apparently the goats hardly notice, but I don't know, man. I mean, that's what
Starting point is 00:47:48 she says. But if I'm the goat, I am definitely noticing a very tight band around my unit. And then over the next like seven to ten days, it just falls off or something. really like it just cuts off all the blood so yeah it shrivels up and just kind of goes like a like a cut belly button or like a cut umbilical cord yeah nasty yeah I haven't been able to I haven't been able to shake it all morning honestly black shard studios that's nuts he says
Starting point is 00:48:19 well done sir yeah well done we see what you did there nice love nice job uh all right any and if any farmers want to correct any of that let me know but this lady claims that's how it works uh hey though. You pay extra to do it slowly. Always. Yes. Dave. Dave Nelson wrote in. Dave Delson. Dave Delson. Yeah. He's one of our Canadian listeners, and so we'd like to do this. He wrote in, actually called in and left us a message that I think is worth playing, and then I have something for him.
Starting point is 00:48:46 So here it is. Hey, S&B 500. It's Dave from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. So I was playing a session of Banana last night on the Zenith server with My Zipides apps. That's exactly how it sounds when you guys start talking about. video games and stuff that I'm not aware of. So, you know, it's, most people will understand what you're talking about, but, you know, simplify it for the rest of us. And this would be fun, too, make up some kind of game and see if, uh, me or the people
Starting point is 00:49:15 that actually are in the gaming know that you're playing a trick on us. Just make up some words. See if we get it or not. Anyways, love the show, though. All right. So Dave, not at the beginning, beginning of his call, I really thought he was talking about something real banana on the ven on the zina server i'm like i don't know what that is but sounds really cool yeah he sounded legit the way he described it which is why i'm going to follow up with this
Starting point is 00:49:38 audio because it reminded me of a thing that's going around right now this guy made this basically just him saying here's what baseball announcers sound to non baseball fans so i'm going to play a little of that all right moirrearty with a fly a foul foul foul foul foul foul And I got so I'm on the same with my final sound. You get the idea. Even at the end here, he gets real excited. That's about right. That's totally right.
Starting point is 00:50:17 Yeah. So we get it. You know? I get it. We'll try to, yeah. It's really an extension of shit out of luck.com, right? Is that, you know, when we bring something up, we need to clarify what we're talking about. We need to be able to play it.
Starting point is 00:50:30 Shit out of luck.com. There you go. Thank you. Christine. Thank you, Dave Nelson, for bringing that to our. attention. We appreciate it. If you'd like to leave your own voicemail to the show, you can do it easily by going to the website of frogpants.com slash TMS. It's embedded right there. That is going to do it for us. That's the website. What else do I need to tell people? Oh, yeah. Play retro tonight. Um, bu, blah, blah, show tomorrow. What is tomorrow? Thursday. When you'll be here? Tomorrow's Thursday. There'll be a Coverville. Come hell or hot water. Yeah. Everyone's been missing Coverville. So we'll get that going and then we'll have a TMS Friday this week. Uh, you don't know who's getting quid. who's up. You've got one for me.
Starting point is 00:51:07 I do. Okay. I'll double check and make sure that that is the case. I hope you've got one for me. Yeah. I hope I do as well. I hope you do. Film sack, all that fun stuff.
Starting point is 00:51:18 There is no core tomorrow because we did it last night. So if you want to hear our big joint episode with Grinding Gear, go check it out. Big joint. Yeah, it was super fun.
