Does the shoulder strap in your car cut into your shoulder?
The morning stream.
Oh, my.
Hello, and welcome to TMS.
The morning stream is on.
It's Tuesday, October 27, 2006.
I'm Scott Johnson. That's Brian Nibbitt.
Hello.
Hello.
Let's turn a light on.
Let's turn a couple of my little fancy lights on.
There we go.
Oh, yeah.
Glowy Brianibitt.
I like it.
Let's show off that rosy colored skin.
We must be well illuminated to properly podcast on video.
That's what the kids tell you today.
That's the advice they give you.
That's right.
It's good to see you all.
We're going to crank off another show today.
Excuse me.
I think I'm getting a tiny, it's not like brutal or weird or wearing me down or anything,
but just a little cold.
I'm on the edge of a cold.
Yeah, I know that hit that feeling, right?
Like just right on the cusp.
Yeah, I don't like it.
Fight it, Johnson.
Fight it.
I'm going to, I'm going to, the zinc and the whatnot.
Yeah.
I don't even know if any of that bullshit works, but I'm going to do it all the.
Wackadoos to tell you.
It's a good Bobby or Dan question for sure.
Yeah.
What would RFK Jr. say?
Lick the banister.
I don't know.
You can actually eat every part of a raccoon.
The tail is full of antioxidants.
Oh, I have a thing about him that I won't bring up, but I'm a...
But...
That thing.
Still haunting me.
Still haunting me.
Still hunting.
It's a...
Really?
The best.
amazing. Hey, so I went and saw a movie yesterday. Carter and I decided to take off right after
the Monday show and see. It was a dad-daughter date. It was actually Carter's idea. She's like,
we haven't done one of those forever. We see each other so much that it's easy to forget.
Plus, we kind of cohort on a lot of things. It's easy to forget we just need some of that
dad-daughter bonding time. Not in front of a camera time. Yeah, and not dealing with some commission
or project or even just proximity to,
because when you're around each other all the time,
you just sort of, I don't know, you take for granted things.
So I think it was a good idea.
She's like, yeah, we should do that.
So that's fantastic.
Let's see Wildwood in the movie theater there.
This is the new Lika movie.
Laca.
I don't know how they say their name.
Lika, Laika.
Lika.
I say Lika, but I don't know if I'm correct or not.
I've never known if I'm saying it right.
But this Travis Knight directed film,
He's pretty much responsible for all their big bangers.
Like, well, he's been there since the beginning.
And he's an animator of the purest form.
Makes stop motion animation.
There's no more meticulous animation in the world, I don't think.
But if you've seen, you know, Kubo in the two strings or you've seen, I don't know.
Coraline.
Coraline was a, that was a Henry Selech joint, different.
That's right.
That's right.
Different thing.
But box trolls, very good.
Like a bunch of really cool stuff.
They make, I mean, they've, they've, they've taken.
can stop motion into the next
stratosphere. Nobody
even competes with this stuff. It's so good.
And that's not to say Ardman doesn't have
something to say about that, but Ardman is a little more
on the basic side on purpose. It's not meant
to be what these guys are doing.
These guys are kind of a new art form.
Anyway,
uh,
it's so good, Brian. It is so
good. It is easily my
favorite movie of the year. We still have Dune and
Dune's Day to come, but of everything
I've seen this year,
in and out of movie theaters, this is easily my favorite thing.
And I think this is a lock for best animated feature.
There's not even a chance anything else wins.
Like, not even a chance.
There's nothing you even hear about, right?
Like, there was what, minions and monsters?
What was the, I can't remember what the Pixar thing was.
Was there a Pixar one yet this year?
There was something, right?
Maybe it hasn't come out yet?
I don't know.
Maybe not.
Maybe we still have something coming.
But then there's the...
Hoppers was Pixar.
That's right.
Oh, Hoppers.
which was really good.
Oh yeah, no doubt.
Like the standard is fine where everyone landed.
It's just this is so...
Oh, yeah, Toy Story 5.
Thank you, Amy.
Yes, we got about that one too.
Oh, yeah, Coyote versus Acme, or Coyote.
Coyote versus Acme was really good.
They won't put that in there.
Oh, because of when it was...
No, I don't even think they'll do it for...
It's not animated enough.
If they're going to put it in the animated feature category,
that thing's got to be...
It has to be way more animated.
Yeah, good point.
I don't think that'll go in there.
a good year and there's nothing wrong with the year the rest of the competition is good this recent
island thing escape from whatever island from greenworks is yeah it's supposed to be really good
so it's not like there isn't decent competition this is just like so far and above the rest of it
yeah it's so freaking good anyway we loved it i won't spoil anything about it if you haven't
seen it just see it and just let it wash over you it's it's incredible okay that was fine
here's the weird bit.
It was almost like we went to see the movie in the backrooms.
Because this movie theater, whoops, this, I pushed all the wrong buttons.
There we go.
This movie theater was so empty.
And I know, you know, no one expects a Monday afternoon movie theater to be packed by any stretch.
No.
But I expect to see more than just one person working there who took care of both our ticket.
we had a ticket discrepancy thing they took care of that but then when we went to get popcorn
they ran over there to get us popcorn sure nobody else is there the places so it's literally
us and this person as soon as he did your popcorn he ran up to the projector push the button to
start that yeah it felt like it was in there to clean up your your mess you it felt like it so
I took some video of the hallway in there yeah I'm gonna share it now but this was after the
film not before, but we never saw
another living person other than
that ticket person. They also took
the ticket when we went in, same person.
And
it was eerie.
And the whole theater, of course, empty but us.
So we got the run of the place.
If anyone was in the theater.
It was so weird that when it ended,
the lights go down,
or the lights never come up. The credits run
all the way through. Oh, really? Okay.
And we're just sitting there going,
this is normally when those come up, people
start coming in to clean
something. It's just, they
forgot about us. It's so weird.
But here's what that hallway
looked like. Like that is
that's the theater we did Batman
in in 2008. Oh, right. Wow.
Okay. There's nobody there.
Like nobody. It was creepy.
I could hear the lights buzzing.
Did you feel like Nicole Kidman?
A little.
A little like that. All the plastic
I was wearing on my face. That helped.
That helped me feel like her. But, um,
But it was just a very weird, like, no other theaters had anybody.
And like, as best I could tell, I went into that bathroom after just to pee.
The emptiest bathroom of my life.
That's funny.
I felt like I was Chew a Tell Legitaphore or whatever's name was in backwards.
I couldn't understand how I'd gotten in there.
It was so weird.
But anyway.
That's great.
The bummer is, it's like the movie like Wildwood, you kind of want a little bit of an audience to be like,
oh,
you know,
stuff like that,
getting those reactions and stuff.
And I'm pretty sure it had a good showing
another,
like the AMC,
the,
I forgot the one with the dog
or the coyote guy in it.
What's the,
what's the Cynemark?
Oh.
Is he a coyote?
What is he?
I don't know what he is.
He's some kind of mascot
for the cinema.
Really?
Okay.
I don't know that.
I don't get that reference.
He looks like he'd be friends
with Chester Cheetah.
Gotcha.
That's that kind of character.
Really?
I don't know if they still do it.
maybe they do. But anyway, as far as I know, those theaters definitely had more people than we did.
KT Data saw it Sunday and it was, I think they had a good thing going on there.
So I don't know.
I mean, that is a, that is borderline there like $5 movies if you come in and three o'clock on a Monday.
Yeah.
Please. We need to sell tickets.
What's weird about this theater, though, is even if you go to a popular showing on a Friday or Saturday night, it's still,
really sparse.
Really?
I think what's happened,
because a couple of things going on.
It's in the district.
It'll be probably hard to remember
what this was like in 2008 or not 10
or when we hosted one,
but it's,
it's kind of a,
it's a bit of a pain getting in
and out of there.
The traffic in there can get kind of wonky.
And so it's,
that's a bit of a pain point.
It used to be that was your only theater for a while.
So, okay, fine, we'll go there,
whatever, and just deal with it.
And then, you know,
that place used to,
to get really packed. Pre-pandemic, no issues. Just packed to the ceiling with people all the time.
Post-pandemic has just been this slow drop-off. And over the last five, six years,
you know, that the interior there had lines of restaurants on both sides, different kinds of food you could get.
Right. Oh, yeah, remember, it was like, yeah, pizza and chicken sandwiches and stuff like that. It was crazy.
Yeah, it was more like a mall food court in there. Well, now it's literally one of those is still open
for food. The rest of it is blocked off with like signage and there's nothing there.
There's no more because it, you know, clearly they couldn't maintain that.
And I don't know what happened except the only thing I can think of is they built another
location. Maybe, I don't know, it's maybe it's 10 minutes, eight minutes away that is now
brand new and maybe that took the attention. But that one also doesn't seem like it's packed.
I just think that Larry H. Miller Megaplex stuff is struggling. That's what I think.
Yeah, yeah.
Because the other ones are fine.
They all seem to be doing gangbusters.
So I don't know.
When the last movie we saw in theaters was you can see everything.
And that was so packed that we were in, you know, we got two of the last seats in there,
other than the front row, which of course we're not going to do.
But we're in the back, the back row of the front section.
So four rows back, which is fine because they're because of the,
they just don't put seats really close to the screen because they've got a stage.
in front so they can do
other events and things like that.
And so the back row
of the front section is actually pretty
pretty good. I'll do it in a pinch.
You'll do it if you have to. That's as close as I. Yeah, it's as close.
And especially with you can see everything
where all the shots are so close up anyway.
That was a borderline,
but still was just fine.
But the fact that it was packed, like,
it was a Saturday, I guess it was a Saturday afternoon.
When did I see it?
Saturday, I think, didn't you?
I think it was a Saturday, yeah.
That sounds right.
You have to value, I feel like sometimes half the value of the Alamo Draft House is the communal.
Like, you're always guaranteed that people there, pretty much.
Yeah, and that is, that is, that is what I go to the movies for.
I hate to, I hate to echo Clay, I mean, Nicole Kidman, but the experience of having other people responding in the theater.
And people who respect movies for the most part.
You know, I sat next to some people.
We told that story about me having to finally call a person, a manager over to boot people who are using their phone and talking.
But that's been one, maybe two experiences since we've been going to LMO.
So it does attract a lot of people and a lot of people who care about the experience.
Yeah.
I wish we had one.
I think that would be awesome to do here.
And it'd be worth that.
It'd be worth the membership, all that stuff.
I would totally do it for that.
For sure.
If you had one, there'd be no doubt.
I'd have no doubt you'd do the membership thing because, you know, then it would make it really easy to say, ah, Kim, date night.
Let's go see, what should we call?
Let's go see this in the theater.
Let's go see this in the news.
Yeah.
I love the idea of just peeling out and seeing it, kind of even last minute sometimes.
Yeah.
But, man, if you guys were hoping for a place in the Central Valley here that don't got nobody in it.
It's clean.
Everything ran.
The projector was good.
Sound was great.
It was like all good and they're all nice seats and like they've done all their renovations.
It's just it made me, I want to ask him if it's for sale and can I get a deal on the place.
And I can see this being like your alternative to an abandoned church.
You're like, you know, we could live in theater.
Oh, dude.
And I could do, I could do, they have a whole upper floor where we did that meet and greet sort of thing that one year.
Right, it was Price Copp. Apocalypse was up there.
I'd probably live up there.
Those would be bedrooms.
And I do...
Yeah.
A little conference center.
Yeah, I do like a art gallery down on the main floor.
Oh, there you go.
We'd have showing...
Got have an arcade.
Yeah.
I'd have one theater.
Like, theater one would just be repeat Fury Road all day.
People would just come and go.
Oh, man.
I got plans.
Let's go.
Let's do it.
I'm sure it'll be cheap.
This is sounding less and less like a money-making opportunity, Scott.
Well, that's what I always think.
If these guys, these billionaires and millionaires,
who are just so dead set on just being obnoxious and in everyone's face and trying to control
the world and everything, I would be so different.
I think I would.
I think I would have all that money and I'd go, all right, buying a theater and living there.
Yeah, totally.
I'm doing, and then I'm going to buy a beach house that used to be a church, and I'm going to do
that.
You know, one of those churches on a beach on a beachfront property.
You know, everybody's going for their spiritual upkeep while they're on vacation.
They all go there.
Oh, you're like, yeah, you're thinking, oh, I'm sorry, you're thinking about a cult house.
Oh, yeah, that's right.
A cult beach house.
Yeah.
And it's up in the Pacific Northwest where it's cold and windy.
But no, for real, like, I would spend my money on the dumbest things, but they would be things I would love to do that otherwise are prohibitively expensive.
Sure.
Like having a gallery that people can come to and look at your art or having a live podcast studio.
I don't care if it makes money.
I just want it to be a thing.
If money is not an issue, then you get this.
It's like, yeah, absolutely.
Do the same thing.
But I would probably just do like all these other billionaires and become a freaking alien is what would happen.
I went to a store.
When we were in Prescott, they had a store called Game On, I think, Game On or Game Up.
Dude, this is the place I would, this is the store I would open up if I could.
Imagine a like massive space.
Game On says Lydia.
Okay, cool.
imagine a massive space
like almost
small grocery store size
maybe actually regular grocery store size
you walk in the front left
section is
all board games
you go back
behind that it kind of
moves into tabletop stuff
and dice
and
card games collect a couple of card stuff
and oh no I'm sorry
between the board games
and the magic stuff
long boxes of
old issues of comics
and new releases on the wall
so you know you're new and
and used comic books
backside
retro video game stuff
and you know you're like an old
GameCube and all these games
and Nintendo's and stuff like that
like all that
yeah that's the interior of the place right there
front side
like all your
models and
um gundams and things like that that you take and put together and and everything this is like you put in
a section of 3d printing in that place and it is it is my dream store yeah yeah oh my gosh i want to do
it you got to check that place out uh i bought a um i bought a uh what is a cursive strad
barovia dice bag mystery dice bag you got some dice i got these
cool little mat.
They're like matte.
Oh, I like those.
Nice.
And a adrenaline rush coin.
I don't know why, but it is adrenaline rush.
It's not part of a specific game or something, isn't it?
No, no.
It's just a passive that works have.
Oh, well, you should keep that with you.
I could use that in my life.
Yeah, I could always use adrenaline rush.
But anyway, that place was so awesome.
That sounds great.
I'm amazed that I got out of there for under 50 bucks.
Yeah.
Just bought a couple things there.
but man, that place, I could easily spend thousands of dollars a month at that place.
Yeah, it's a sort of place if, I don't know, if I found a local one that, and there are plenty here,
I could probably get way wrapped into that world.
And I don't have time for that.
I don't have a new avenue of, like, hobbyism that will put me there multiple times a week like people do.
None whatsoever, yeah.
But it sounds awesome.
But I would buy that.
I would put a podcasting studio on the back, a wall of 3D printers with adequate ventilation.
A place for people to play board games.
There was actually in front.
There was a place for people to play board games.
I love that stuff.
Yeah.
And if I was a billionaire, here's what I'd do.
I'd open a chain of the damn things.
I would like spend all my money on helping other people do nerdy shit.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Instead of oppressing everybody with my bullshit.
You know?
Exactly.
Yes.
How hard is it?
The name of the store would be, we've got your nerd.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There you go.
Or got 50 bucks.
You can call it that.
I'll call it that.
Perfect.
And then everybody can spend more,
but it's, you know, minimum buying 50 bucks.
Speaking of board games,
our friends over at Chip Theory.
Nice transition, by the way.
Thank you very much.
It's completely unplanned.
But Josh and Raven and Chip Theory games
have a brand new game launching today on GameFound.
It's called Too Little Time.
It's the follow-up to Too Many Bones.
And they,
And the campaign's going well.
I think it started an hour ago, and it's already 68% funded.
But if you go to gamefound.com and just do a search for too little time, you'll find it.
Or chip theory.
I found it just by going to chip, just searching for chip theory on Gamefound.
Man, their projects are always so nice looking.
The art is always gorgeous.
Yeah.
And I guess GameFound is just the new way.
I don't see a lot of game projects on Kickstarter anymore.
They're all going straight to GameFound.
Yeah.
The art is so gorge.
It's just gorge.
Gorge.
It looks amazing.
Go check it out.
That's too little time on gamefound.com.
That comes, by the way, that gorge.
I'm going to admit a very, it's going to be very difficult for me to admit this, Scott.
So, all right.
We're ready for this.
Let's do it.
When we were in Prescott, we were at my niece's house.
She's, you know, the one having a baby.
She, um, one of the three.
things she wanted for the baby shower was a balloon arch, big balloon arch. And so we were over there
kind of helping assemble things and create a like a beer pong kind of thing with diapers called
diaper pong where, you know, their red solo cups covered with diapers and on a wall kind of thing.
So we were over there helping her, but because they want to have something on in the background,
they're watching Love is Blind UK.
And having this thing on in the background,
the premise for people who don't know Love is blind
is that you've got 12 hot people,
12 hot dudes in one pod, 12 hot women in another pod,
they meet up in these pods that are blocked by a wall,
so all they can do is talk to each other
and get to know each other without seeing what the other person looks like.
So it's a little experiment.
Right?
Like it used to be.
Yeah, exactly.
Instead of, if you were a loaf of bread, what kind of bread would you be?
Maybe I'd be a pumpernickel.
That's right.
I like me some rye bread.
That's right.
White, white bread.
But anyway, so it's the UK edition.
And we get hooked on this show because there's this very attractive woman who,
uh is also very materialistic but um completely separate and unrelated to that she's she's vegan
and she's talking to this guy who's a real chav i guess the term is chav i need to look that up but i
think i get that from peeky blinders or something but um uh you know he's like what would you like
going out for dinner do you like going out for pizza she's like well i'd like to but i'm vegan
well, do you like, do you like cheddar?
She's like, no, I can't eat it. I'm vegan.
How about bruchetta with a nice mozzarella?
Do you like that?
I'm starting to see the appeal.
It's so hard not to get hooked on this crap.
If the soup was still around, if Joel Mikhail was still doing the soup,
that would have 100% been a clip you would have seen on the soup.
But anyway, so 19 and I are like, well, we've watched like,
thirds of this thing while we were helping them put the baby shower together let's just
finish let's just finish watching this stupid show yeah you're gonna you've eaten
three quarters of the sandwich might as well watch the last quarter just to see what
what happens with these horrible horrible I think it's a great idea there's some
people that are really nice on here and you're like you know what those guys that
there's an example right there that couple is what what should happen in relationships
these other couples me yeah not so much but oh the misfits that's right not the
misfits. That's where I learned chav.
Yeah, it means a trailer parky
kind of person. Yeah, the definition
says an insulting word for someone,
usually a young person whose way of
dressing, speaking, and behaving is thought
to show their lack of education on low social
class, often referred to.
In football circles that they'd like to
make fun of how they wear
like football jerseys
and all that. And they're from like
Birmingham and
kind of working class,
whatever, those guys. Whatever. They have
They have their stereotypes over there, just like we do.
That's the deal.
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
Here's how you say it.
Chav.
And then if you say it over there, you say chav.
Chav.
Chav.
Chav.
Chav.
Yeah.
Here's how we say it over here.
Hold on.
Here's our version of it.
Yeah.
Is that how we say it?
Perfect.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's pretty good, right?
Pretty dead on.
Well, anyway, it is extremely lovely to see you all.
We're going to do some, uh, some, um, some,
news before we bring Bill in a little bit later.
Bill.
So enjoy this.
The brief look at this week's news.
Where's the thing?
There it is.
It's the news brought to you by.
I feel like the king enters to you take his throne.
Hey, visit newduck.com where there are new comics to read.
Go read them.
Yeah, you want to see the dumbest dad joke of all time.
Today's comic is that or yesterday is.
Yeah.
Where are you from, says the normal looking pencil.
And the vampire looking pencil says,
Pennsylvania spelled like pencil,
Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania.
Yes.
It almost auto-corrected to the correct Pennsylvania,
which would have been real dumb.
Nobody, it wouldn't have made any sense, but I don't know.
Thevania still may have worked, but anyway.
Maybe, yeah.
Go check it out.
Newduck.com.
That's right.
Nothing to do with ducks at all.
That's half the fun is figuring out what these are about.
All right.
Let's get to this story here about an in-and-out deal.
So there are people paying up to 50,
you can of 50 bucks.
50 extra dollars for black market
burger delivery.
Black market burger delivery.
I just, the term.
It's great, right?
It's basically outside of Uber Eats and DoorDash and
Grubhub.
Basically, it's just like, you know,
personal promise delivery.
Yeah, it's something like that, actually.
So some in and out burger lovers are so keen
for a double, double and a shake.
Those shakes are terrible, though their shakes are bad.
I really like In and Out.
Shakes are bad.
Sorry.
Chakes are bad.
I'm going to say something too that might piss off people, but I hate In-N-Out fries.
I feel like if I could tell them, could you keep those fries in there for like another 30 seconds, please?
They're like always undercooked, floppy, basically hot floppy sticks.
A little bit.
They're not amazing.
I don't hate them, but I don't find them.
They're not great.
Yeah.
They're not great.
Asvvp.
Dude, give me a name I can pronounce.
Asvapumavison says Fries Well Done.
Can you ask for fries well done at...
Is that secret menu ask thing?
I've never heard that.
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
I'm going to try that.
So you're doing the whole upside-down V-A thing.
Are you ASAP Mason then?
You can.
I course says you can.
Yeah, I want to try.
I'm going to try this.
Oh, okay.
That fixes one problem.
Or twice fried, says Kelly.
Well, I don't want it fried twice.
I just want it to...
I don't mind twice fried.
It depends on where.
I mean, no, that's, you know, a lot of places do, they do a flash fry, and then they put them aside, and then they refry them, and they're great.
Like, I think Red Robin does that with their steak fries.
They flash fry them.
The first they keep them in water, cold water, flash fry them, and then you reflash fry them.
Their fries are pretty good.
Yeah.
I would call them some of the best fries out there.
They're up there.
They're a little more like, you know, I don't know.
They're steak fries.
Steak fries.
Yeah.
Oh, steak.
Sounds good.
So they don't offer any delivery.
They said part of what makes in and out is the experience is so special is the
interaction between customer service and we're able to give blah, blah, blah.
So they don't work with any of the delivery companies.
They don't work with Grubhub or Uber Eats or anything.
No, we've tried to do it in the past and we're like, wait, they're not on there.
We couldn't believe it.
We didn't realize that something had cropped up around this.
But anyway, there was some online thing.
It was like a Facebook marketplace listing.
Yeah, here it is.
The better business bureau, excuse me,
Bureau is warning against anyone calling themselves a burger broker
because they can't guarantee the safety of it.
There's no company to sue if something goes bad.
you know like at least with grubh
or whatever you can sue somebody
you have a company to point at
if there's a problem or whatever right
so yeah I would never do this
I would never order food from a dude called
the burger broker
no heck no because you don't know
this is a guy who's absolutely
sipping on your shake and tasting your fries
on the drive yeah definitely
yeah never doing that so
you know this is like getting your drugs
from your prescription drugs from
Tijuana like there may be
somebody may have figured out the best path to do that i ain't ever doing that no thank you i walked out
out of there with a chest set i didn't want that's what happened in team one over me bastards
there's drugs in the bishop though yeah there probably is you know what i never even thought
about looking but i'll bet my pieces are sketch you got like uh cocaine in the king yeah it's like
twenty dollars twenty dollars and i don't want to do that 10 dollars 10 i mean i got swindled
is what happened yeah yeah um all right that's your news that's literally the news that's literally the
because now we got to bring in Bill and without
Bill who are we? What are we? How can we even go on? So here's that.
There's still something wrong, isn't there, Bill? Bill Drand
joining us from the Pacific Northwest and the home of Punishprops.com. Hello, Bill.
Welcome to the show. How are you?
Hello, good morning. Good morning. How the heck are you? I feel like we haven't talked to you
forever for some reason, but I know it's about a month. Yeah, yeah. It feels longer, but whatever.
I mean, you know, look, I, oh, I should show that picture I sent him yesterday. You guys have got to see
the Duran's and us in what doesn't feel like that long ago,
but just 10 years ago this week, I think.
Pretty much exactly.
BlissCon's early November, mostly, right?
Usually this year was early.
Let's see.
Early November 2016, we didn't know what we were looking.
No, we had no idea.
There were no idea all the things that were coming in life.
Yeah, there's Britt, there's Bill.
Bill's, you know, didn't, Bill's got, he's a silver fox now,
Back then, he was like...
Carter was still in school.
No, she graduated the year before.
Nick was 16.
Kim had just cut her hair short.
Actually, Kim's hair shortening
came from Tina's treatment.
Oh, yeah.
She never grew up back.
Yeah, no, you know, it looked great on her.
Her and Carter both did the...
Well, all three of you did the head shaving thing.
Yeah.
I think Carter and Kim actually kept it going for quite a while.
They did.
I wonder if I was at 2016.
I mean, you know, I don't remember if Tristan and I made it to that one.
I know you were at 27.
and 2018, but I don't know. Who is the band for 2016? Do you know?
Oh, gosh.
I don't remember. I really don't remember. Who would that have been? That may have been Metallica that year.
Ah, I don't remember. Oh, we're Daliancovic. We're absolutely there.
Oh, my God. No, all right. Yeah, you were there. That was the best. That was a good one of my
favorite bands ever. Yeah. He got a bunch of cosplayers to be a part of the intro. A bunch of our
friends got to go help with that. It was so cool. Oh, that's awesome. Very cool. Well,
From 2016 to 2026, Brian has a question. Go ahead.
I do have a question. I have one for 10 years that have been brewing this question.
No, my aunt is big on making and building and being creative and stuff.
She just got a new glowforge.
I don't know what model she got, but she basically asked my mom to ask me if I want her old glowforge.
And I'm like, hell yes.
And I kind of only know a little bit.
It's like a laser cutter, right?
It's a CNC, basically.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, you can cut flat materials, wood, some plastics,
acrylic plastic.
I mean, of course, I'm going to say yes before I even know 100%.
Oh, yeah.
No, you want that laser.
You want a laser.
And that thing is, even if it's the low-end model, Brian, it's like a thousand bucks.
I know it.
And it's, I don't know how old her original model is.
It's probably an older one.
But I'm like, oh, yeah, absolutely I want that.
Hell yeah.
Cool.
I'm excited to see what you make with it.
Yeah.
I know.
I'm excited.
I'll talk to you once I get it and you can say, okay, Brian, here are the things you want to go look for and here's, you know, here's some things you want to try with it right away.
Don't cut vinyl or PVC because it will release chlorine glass, which is toxic.
Oh, gosh, okay.
I won't do that.
So PVC plastic and vinyl, vinyl has PVC in it.
Don't cut those on the laser, but most of the things are pretty good.
Oh, wow.
Did you learn that by accident or are you worn against that?
No, and I got a laser.
Someone did the same thing to me.
They're like, hold up.
Don't do it.
Don't cut PVC.
Okay, got it.
That's awesome.
I like all these guys protecting each other from death.
And at some point, I need to go back and look through your videos because I want to create, want to build my own vacuum form, a smaller vacuum form for some 3D prints that I'm going to be doing.
And it's like, you know what, I know Bill's done a video about how to make, he's made his own.
I want to make my own.
I have a video with a really simple small vacuum form.
I want to build a slightly nicer one, but we'll see if that happens.
I believe in you.
Well, let's get to today's making a discussion.
What do you got going on this week?
What's happening?
Yes, we have, so we made our Slate Aspire costumes for Dragon Khan,
and I made a video and it's uploaded, but you can't watch it yet
because of a technical issue.
But in the next day or so, there will be a video out for the helmet.
for my
who did I do, the ironclad
from Sleeves Spire.
Oh, cool.
Nice.
Yeah. So I'll paint you
a word picture.
Oh, I like a word picture.
I'll hear it.
So the ironclad armor
is like perfect for EVA foam.
It's very simple, very big forms.
So I decided to make the whole thing out of EVA foam.
And the helmet was a fun challenge.
If you look at the reference images
from the game, there isn't a single picture of that helmet that looks the same.
No, they're all different.
You're right.
I was just going to ask how you get around that because that game's famous, especially the first game.
Second game's a little more consistent, but the first game, the art style is all over the map.
It really is.
Yeah.
So I had to just make some calls when it came to the design about the shape of this thing, because it is dramatically different in different pictures.
Once I did that, then I made a really really...
rough 3D model. I opened up
Blender. I have a 3D scan
on my head, so I dropped that in there, and I was able
to make a simple 3D model of the helmet over
my head. That way I knew it would fit perfectly.
It's a very
simple 3D model. In fact, I made it
as low poly as possible
and still describe
the object, right?
And then that 3D model
went into a program called Peppa Curra designer.
Have you guys ever played with Peppa Cura?
No, I never even heard of it. No.
So Pepecura is this, it's
not origami. It is folded paper, but it's more like creating a shell of an object out of paper
by taking a 3D model and flattening it into panels.
Oh, I've seen this. I didn't know what was called that. That's interesting. Okay.
Yeah, there's a program called Peppercore Designer. You can download, you dump an OBJ in there,
and you can design how the faces get cut apart so that you can then print it out, which is what I did,
and then tape it back together along the seams to recreate this three.
shell. That's cool.
Okay. Oh, I see.
So this isn't you.
This is some dude I found on their site, but
that's exactly what they've done with this
Helm design is create that.
That's interesting.
Huh. All right, but that's not your
I mean, obviously that's not your final thing.
It's like your prototype
sort of. Exactly. Yeah. So now you
could, and people have done this, you could
fiberglass your piece of paper, your
paper armor and
build it up until you've got a
solid, rigid piece of armor.
I wanted to make it out of foam.
So I took the patterns I made from Pepper Curr designer,
and I just squished them flat on a piece of cardstock and trace them to make the patterns
for the foam.
Sure.
There's a little massaging that has to get done.
But so long as you're not taking a part that's too complex, you can flatten it pretty
well and then reintroduce that curve later.
If it's too curved, you can cut darts and everything.
but our helmet was pretty simple.
Let's see, what are I do after that?
Oh, then I just have to cut out all the parts
and start gluing them together.
Now, like you said, this is a prototype,
so I had to kind of fettle with it a bit,
and I have a casting of my head that I was building it on,
basically just taping pieces to this casting of my head
and building the helmet right on there
until I had a helmet on my head,
and it fit perfectly, which was awesome.
Yeah.
Can't wait to see this video because you're going to look proper, proper goofy in that thing.
I can't wait.
It's going to be awesome.
What's really cool is since I 3D modeled it over my head, I got it really close on the first try.
You can make a pattern a lot of different ways for something like a helmet.
But I really like this digital route because the first pattern pretty much nailed it, especially the fit.
It fit perfectly right on my head.
Nice.
Once it was all built and everything, I had to paint it.
It's just gold.
it's a really simple paint job.
In fact, it looked a little bit too simple,
and I'm trying to think of ways I can maybe use it up a little bit
for the next time I wear it.
All right.
I can't wait to see this.
When is your technical issue lift so we can see it?
I don't know.
It's with our website.
We're trying to run a sale on our website, along with the video,
but the website is broken.
We have top men on the case.
Oh, top men.
Top men.
All right.
That's right.
Good deal.
Well, that's great.
I can't wait to see it.
And did you, did you, I meant to ask you this,
Maybe we did, and I forgot, so apologies if I did.
But when you were at DragonCon, how much, how much cosplay love did you see for Slay the Spire?
Was it more than, I don't know.
We saw a pretty good amount.
Yeah.
I would say maybe a dozen or so.
That's pretty great, though.
Yeah.
For a freaking card battler, you know?
Yeah.
There's like three or four merchants.
The merchants were really popular.
They would find a place to sort of like sit down and camp with all their stuff.
Yeah.
I saw another ironclad.
We saw two or three.
other silence.
And then I heard
there was a defect that I heard
there was one or two of the enemies, but I
didn't run into them.
Okay. Yeah, but I was very excited.
We were really pumped to see everyone.
Nice. What was represented
the most you think in the cosplay?
Was it Dungeon Crawler Carl? Was it
Project Hill Mary?
Yeah.
I saw a lot
of Project Help Mary. I saw a lot
of inflated, inflatable
huts as well.
I saw that in your video
Like a line of inflatable huts
Like a lot of them
Yeah
I never saw the end of that line
Is that the equivalent
Like the new 501st
Is just gonna be
Yeah
Inflatable huts
Wait so wait
The inflatable huts from what
Just a bunch of huts
Just huts
Just the running of the huts
That's all
Okay
As many as they could get
People are fans of huts
Oh I see
Job of the huts
Yeah I'm sorry
Yeah not like
In my head
There's this
In my head, they're all like little tiny living dwellings.
And I'm like, wait a minute.
What is the significance of drag on the huts?
People like whatever they can get a lot of.
And someone found out you can get a lot of those inflatable hut costumes.
I didn't know that was even a thing.
I didn't know.
I didn't know you could get any inflatable huts.
I don't mean either.
When I did a search for huts, I spelled it with just one T the first time.
And it didn't help because it just looked like, oh, I'm going to camp in this.
Or this is where I'm going to sell stuff in this outdoor fair.
And then I found the, oh, here are the huts.
All right.
So the huts with two T's, they look like that, I guess.
Oh, wow.
That's it.
All right.
That's wild.
Does the tongue come out?
A bunch of people walking around with those.
I need the tongue to come out.
That'd be great.
Well, Bill, as always, good stuff.
You have a little extra bonus-e-linky deal for us today.
Yeah, this was really cool.
Our pales over at tested, Adam Savage, and the gang over there.
They got to visit Lyca.
I'm very jealous.
Great timing.
I know.
They put out a bunch of videos, but they did one on the props from the new movie.
And it's so cool.
Have you seen it yet, by the way?
No, I haven't.
I haven't.
And I really want to.
So we saw it yesterday, me and Carter, I did a whole review at the top of the show.
I won't go through it again.
But it's incredible.
Awesome.
In freaking incredible.
I cannot even believe it exists.
It's so good.
In freaking incredible.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Terrible use of the word.
But it's so good.
But here's, I thought of you.
And then we were having a conversation.
I'm like, oh, yeah, can you imagine Bill with these things?
Oh, yeah, that'd be cool.
And Carter says to me, she goes, or no, I said, hey, if Sony offered you or any studio, it doesn't matter.
Sony offered you 500 grand a year to go work there.
Or LICA studios asked you to go work for free.
Yeah, right.
Basically food and board, would you do it?
She was 100%.
Oh, yeah.
She would drop any other opportunity to do the Lika thing.
To work in LICA.
That's amazing.
Yeah.
And they're just up there in Portland.
Yep.
Which is where this story is set in this movie.
It's pretty great.
The thing about it, like, I went to school for animation.
Like, there's a timeline where I ended up as a stop motion animator.
The thing I really, really appreciate about stop motion is you can't, there are no, there's
no way to shortcut it.
Because you have to act this thing out one frame at a time, they storyboard the crap out of it.
They do tests and animatics.
They make sure the.
stories good before someone spends
a month filming one second
of footage. And if you really want to deep dive
this thing, go look at how they
make sure that they keep making movies
because they don't always, like it
kind of had a disappointing opening this weekend.
It had, their movies never really
make big money. Box trolls might have been their
biggest theatrical release, but it's
this, it's the one
nepo baby I like. The son
of the Nike founder,
this is one of the Nike guys.
make sure that this is funded.
And he has said out loud, he says,
I'll burn this to the ground before I sell it to Disney or do anything else with it.
This is going to go on forever.
We're going to make the best art you've ever seen.
I'm like, why can't everyone have a patron of the arts like this?
I know.
I want a patron.
Yeah.
Give Bill a patron.
A patron of the bill.
It's not that far.
A patron of the bill.
Get that.
It's only three hours away.
I can make that commute every day.
Yeah, that's not bad.
But yeah, it is so freaking.
Good. Coraline wasn't them, though, Red Links.
That was a different studio.
Everyone wants to think Coraline was like it, but it wasn't like it.
I don't think. Was it? I don't think so.
Anyway.
What's weird is this guy who made it, Travis, the director, Travis, I forget his last name.
Anyway, he's amazing and he's made all their best stuff, and this is his big opus, and he's just incredible.
But it's weird, because every once in a while he'll hop out and makes just something normal and no one knows it.
So he made that Bumblebee movie that was pretty.
good. The Transformers movie is my
favorite of the Transformers movies.
It was really good. And then he did
that he did last year's He-Man thing.
I still got to see that. Which is weird
because it's nothing like any of that.
It's almost like he's just doing that to blow off
steam or something where he doesn't
have to get up and move a guy's
arm only a tiny bit and then film it
and then move a little bit more.
But some of the panning, like the
animation rig they're using for this.
Yeah. Unbelievable, dude.
Yes. So rad.
Okay, so Coraline was Leica.
Corpse Bride was Leica as well.
Oh, really?
I didn't know that.
I thought they're...
Just partnerships with...
I thought those were Henry Seleck and him on his own or...
I don't know.
Clearly, I don't have the full story.
Well, Bill, always a pleasure.
It was fun to go back in time a little with that photo
and maybe in 10 more years we can do it again.
That'll be great.
But in the meantime, we'll have you back in about three weeks.
How's that sound?
Terrific.
All right. Stay out of trouble.
Bye now.
See?
you. Oh yeah, punish props.com, everybody's where you want to go. PUNish props. Go check out his video,
his compilation of all the costumes, all the cosplay at DragonCon, because it is, it is amazing.
There is some incredible freaking stuff there.
God, just that was, I think my favorite, my favorite part of DragonCon really was just the cosplay.
I like the, you know, I like the speaking stuff, the game show stuff, but stuff that I did, but the
cosplay was just my favorite part of it.
Yeah, I mean, and they're so known for it now.
It's like, it's the main draw for most everybody, I think.
And it's that feeling of like, oh my God, you like that really obscure character too?
Me too.
Yeah, no, you find all kinds of connections there.
Real quick, I want to show you the worst job of the hut inflatable I've ever seen.
Okay.
The one you showed earlier was pretty bad.
Oh, God.
That's really bad.
It's sad.
It's actually kind of.
it's a little sad.
Why does he have a tattoo is the question?
I was just wondering the same thing, yeah.
This is from his time in the Navy?
And why is he given the, do you smell with a rock his cooking face?
Oh, man.
I don't know.
I don't know what's happening there.
Anyway, whoever bought that, good job.
All right.
Maybe that's the really muscular one from,
what was it?
What was the recent Star Wars Disney Plus series that had like all the Huts,
fighting and wrestling and stuff.
Oh, uh, what was that?
Osoka? What was that?
I can't remember which one.
It's not the new movie.
Oh, it was the movie. It was Mendo and Rugo.
Yeah, okay.
It's a big mussely-looking huts and stuff.
The musly huts.
Yes.
Muscley huts, man.
All right. So correct, everybody corrected me.
You were all right.
Coraline, Paranorman, the box trolls,
Kubo and the two strings, missing Lincoln Wildwood.
Those are their.
Those are all the Likas.
Those are the Likas.
But they did not do.
they had nothing to do with
the corpse bride or any of that.
So corpse bride is a like-alike.
Yeah, it's a like-alike.
There you go.
It's like-a-like.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, they did contract work for corpse bride.
Oh, okay.
So my joke can't apply.
Damn it.
Damn it.
Oh, they also did a...
Bastard wants to hit me.
They might be giant video.
They did that.
They did a very Harold and Kumar Christmas.
Really?
Yeah.
This is all contract work.
And they're somehow super tied in with Weta studios now.
And I don't know what that, I don't know if there's a co-owner thing going on there.
Anyway, I want to visit that studio.
My gosh, it would be a dream.
All right.
Let's get to the emails here.
Yes.
Here's one.
Before I play it.
This is about the jugs of pee.
This is from Inward Garden.
And it is a text that says, I am a month late on this, but it occurred to me today that I never mentioned it.
So I wanted to send it in.
on TMS 3068.
When was that?
Let's see.
That was about 20 shows ago.
Yeah.
You asked about what really interesting Pizza Hut,
or about the interesting Pizza Hut,
where it had a lake dock only to access it.
And the dock itself was the Pizza Hut branding design too.
And some questions, thoughts were had at the time about it.
Well, a YouTuber has made a video about taking a trip there.
If that's something you would be interested in, check it out.
All right.
So Inward Garden sent this.
Thank you. And this is Hut with one T, folks. Just one T.
There's one T. Yep, that's the one we were looking at, isn't it?
The side dock thing.
And so he apparently goes there. So you take a boat.
I don't want to look at the whole thing.
Oh, I did see this. This is the guy also who did the Taco Bell run.
The, what was he called that? The run for the border or whatever.
It was the marathon, the Taco Bell Marathon here in Denver.
Oh, right. That's the same guy?
Same dude. Yeah, same dude who did a video about that.
He must be a...
Well, he's an influencer, really.
He is with his suit.
Look at him influencing.
Fantastic.
Yeah.
Thank you for that inward garden.
We also got this one from no name given, an anonymous listener.
Hi, Subaru and Buick.
I'm a lesbian car and Brian's a sturdy grandpa car.
Is that it? Okay.
I think, I don't know what a Buick is.
What is the staircase?
these days, I mean the commercials of the
Buick these days are like, I was looking
for your car and I couldn't find a Buick and it's like this
sporty thing, but
I still think of, I still think of
Buick's as big boxy cars.
For a while I thought they were gone, but I think I'm
thinking Pontiac. Because
Buick's still a GM like subbrand or whatever.
Oh, sure. As far as I know.
Anyway, on TMS episode 3078,
you were talking about the guy with the 77
old Cutlass Supreme.
And Brian said that guy would
take about 12
people out with that car.
I had a 75, basically the same car.
Two adults could sit in the front.
I was 6'4-ish and 250 pounds-ish,
but the back seat was wide enough for three.
Really?
If they had really short legs, love the show, though.
So only five. That's crazy.
I thought the cutless supremes I always thought were the big cars.
A friend of mine had the Oldsmobile 98, and that thing you could fit.
Oh, yeah.
It feels like eight people.
Yeah, the old's 98.
My dad had, my dad sold a couple of those.
See, I look at this cutlass.
they're huge.
They are huge, but apparently not
as roomy as...
Look at that, guys.
I feel like you could put 12 people in there.
I feel like I could cram.
Look at the length of the front of that car.
It's so much engine space, dude.
So much engine room.
And yet they were somehow still rear-driven, rear-wheeled.
You'd think you'd have it all in the front.
Oh, my gosh.
I can hear it creaking.
Yeah, right, exactly.
Like, you open the doors as...
Yeah.
I wouldn't, I would sound like a nightmare to deal with.
Oh, look at this one.
It's all restored.
Oh, sweet.
That's like the Elvis Mobile right there.
Yeah, I'd drive that around.
I'd put horns on the front or something.
I bet it gets two miles to the gallon.
If that.
You can hear it going,
as you drive.
Play the audio clip, Scott.
Oh, yeah.
Here's the sound.
It makes one of his drives.
It's so good.
Oh, look at that thing.
It's almost the Batmobile.
It's almost the Bat Oldsmobile.
Got a tea roof and everything.
Wow. Oh, my God.
All I see here is expensive gas and breakdowns.
It's more the Starsky and Hutch car with the strike and everything.
We're almost like the 18 van.
Whoops, why is that up still? Hold on.
Me, me, me, me, me, all right.
Oh, and that's all he said.
Sorry, that's it.
Thank you for that person with no name.
If you'd like to send us a message, you can be anonymous or not,
or whatever you want to do, just do it at the frogpants.com slash TMS website.
You'll find everything you need there.
Yeah.
Probably got to go now, but we'll have to play a song because them's the rules.
We got to.
So just a quick reminder, TMS playdate coming Friday, playing the new jackbox stuff,
uh, episode of soundography going up today.
I don't exactly know, uh, who is going up, but it's going to go up.
And then new episode of, uh, lost luggage going up tomorrow.
Nice.
Yeah, all that and fun,
more fun stuff coming.
Good deal.
All right.
Gary, Gary.
Gary.
Senior geek wrote in and said,
Hey there, steak and beer.
I thought I requested a song for my 77th birthday back in July,
but apparently I messed up somehow.
If you don't have a good cover of rocking the free world,
any rocker from my youth in the late 60s, early 70s will do.
How about a caveman signed Gary?
Oh, man, we should probably do a caveman thing.
Probably.
Do I have that handy?
I probably do.
You know what?
For Gary and for a dude who's pushing 78,
we are surely doing a audio file for him.
Caveman.
Okay.
Well, it's going great.
So far, nothing with Caveman in it.
Oh, no, so not even the, and a caveman.
Oh, I found it.
Here it is.
And a caveman.
There it is.
Oh, good.
Yeah.
That's one of my favorites.
Dodge that bullet.
All right.
All right.
Rockin in the Free World, originally by Neil Young.
my favorite version of it
well one of my favorite versions of it
is this version here
by the band
Simple Minds don't you forget about them
Simple Minds in 2009 released
an album called Searching for the Lost Boys
and if you got the import edition
you got a bonus disc that had
I think 12 different covers on it
12 cover songs which is great
which made my day
this is their cover of Rockin' the Free World
from 2009 here's Simple Minds
And they're like, mah, and run awake.
