Starting point is 00:00:00 Coming up on TMS Friday, so why'd you have to go and make the quiz so complicated? Pocket Taco, but it's not what you think. The previously chewed gum of podcasts. Toilet water, you're soaking in it now. Rename the bell, big mountain. The genital counter. The softest cell. Njork, nure, wine.
Starting point is 00:00:18 Tainted Betty Davis noise. Keith, the girl, and Robert. Capandu 2, Electric Vindaloo. 250 million grand. Oh, you're dating Pete. walk around with them out in Europe, then they're not genitals. Cover songs with Retson and more on this episode of the Morningstream TMS Friday edition deal.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Package Unit.com. It's Friday. Friday. Gotta get down on Friday. Everybody's looking forward to the weekend. Weekend. Hey, everybody. Welcome to TMS Friday. This is the Friday edition of the show that we do for the morning stream listeners who are patrons.
Starting point is 00:01:06 But today it's going to everybody because we missed Thursday's show for sort of last minute doctor's appointment. And when that happens, we like to make sure everybody gets a little piece of the pie. All right? Yeah. Yeah. You get a show and you get a show. Look under your chair.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Everybody gets a show. Everyone has a show. Nobody goes home empty-handed. Sit down and relax. You get some previously chewed gum. You get some previously chewed gum. Look at your chair. Everybody gets previously chewed gum.
Starting point is 00:01:32 Mmm, tasty. The flavor is still there somehow. It's Scott Johnson and Brian Ebbott and we are here to bring it to you. Now, here's the... the deal. Brian usually sees a movie on Thursday, but there really wasn't much. There wasn't much. Yeah, I, you know, believe me, I would have happily
Starting point is 00:01:48 gone to see Spider-Man a second time, picked up on things I missed the first time. But, no, because of their work schedules, it's very difficult to get time to go out to dinner with Tristan and Kay, my son and his wife, my daughter-in-law, Kay.
Starting point is 00:02:04 And Thursday is typically the only night that they can do it. so because they weren't able to go out to habachi with us for my birthday we decided oh let's go out to dinner Thursday night nothing good coming out in the theater so it works out perfectly and um Kay had never had Indian food before ever and ever and and so we're like all right let's let's go out and get some Indian food let her try you know we get her first experience with a no pun intended Sherpa uh like us to kind of you know guide her through the tika masales and the vindalus and the sagpaneers and stuff like that sure and um uh and she enjoyed it we went up to this place in boulder called
Starting point is 00:02:52 catmandu too it's the the sequel to the restaurant catmandu that's somewhere else in the city might not even still be a catmandu one actually now that i say that this might be the only location But the reason we picked it is because it's buffet style, and they're really, I've been there so many times I know the mom. It's a mom and pop-owned place. They're, God, the sweetest people, they're Himalayan. And so they also have a couple Himalayan dishes, which are very similar. Still cooked in a tendery oven and stuff. Yeah, Himalayan.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Himalian food's amazing. Really good. It's really, really good. But 99% of the stuff they put out is, is Indian and it's like they they put out you know it's it's on a big steam tray but it's smaller bins that they can replace when they cook new stuff so stuff isn't sitting out there for hours and hours and hours um however it's really clear by by when we were there uh very clear to see that it's a big haven for college students who want to pay 20 bucks and eat a ton of food
Starting point is 00:04:00 like eat until they burst basically yeah we got the munchies man, I gotta get in there. Exactly. Yeah. It's, you know, it's the Boulder's a college town and so it's, oh, let's go get, let's go get, uh, can't men do tonight. Cool. Load up. Yeah. Um, but, uh, yeah, she really enjoyed it. We, um, kind of got her through all of the, all of the standards, like I said, the chicken tika masala and, um, yellow curry and sagpaneer and, um, man, you know, You put that sock paneer in front of me when I'm 10 years old.
Starting point is 00:04:36 There's no way I'm going to touch that thing. But now it's like, it's what I, it's my go to on that buffet. It's so good. Sounds awesome right now. Yeah, yeah. Do you get any leftovers? No, because they. Oh, no, it's buffet style, though.
Starting point is 00:04:49 It's buffet style. So they actually have a thing saying no, no take home. Although, because I go there a lot, I've been there with my, one of my freelance clients, Alan. And he, he knows the family there really well, too. He's the one introduced me to them and said, hey, can I get a box? And they never even questioned it with him. They're like, yeah, no problem. Take it home to Minty?
Starting point is 00:05:09 Yep, cool. All right. That's what's great about mom and pop places where you get to know the people. They take care of you, man. They do. They absolutely do. That's awesome. I'm jealous.
Starting point is 00:05:18 I would love to eating that last night. Yeah, good stuff. I got a burger craving and ended up with like a, these burgers over at Tony Burger. Tony makes good burgers. They're good. It's kind of a local institution. But I just kind of picked the wrong one. It wasn't great.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Oh, really? Or maybe it was just the wrong day for the kind I got or I got, it was a, what do you call it, blue bacon burger like the, okay, blue cheese, bacon. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, that's a great, such a great combo. I think something about the heat, just the heat and that cheesy, saucy way those burgers get.
Starting point is 00:05:54 It's not a good combo. That's a better burger to get in the fall. I should have waited. Interesting. I mean, it's not like it's blue cheese. season. No, it's not a season thing. You think that any time of year would be fine for blue, blue cheeseburger, blue bacon
Starting point is 00:06:09 burger. It's something about that flavor or that. It doesn't match well with heat for me, like the hot of the summer. And we ate it outside, so maybe that's part of the problem. But it's just like kind of liquefies and I don't know. Just didn't do it for me. But one of us ate well, the other one ate poorly. That's how it.
Starting point is 00:06:29 Guys, I got to show you this. This is hilarious. And I want to know if Brian may know the end. answer to this. So I was on Reddit and there's a, somebody posted this screenshot and they were at the gym. And this is what they saw on their overhead TV at the gym. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:43 This question for $250,000 on who wants to be a millionaire, says She clearly is flummoxed by it. Oh yeah. She doesn't know. I mean, she doesn't know what to say. Here's the question. According to his authorized biography, Steve Jobs would sometimes
Starting point is 00:06:59 do what with a toilet bowl after sorry, with toilet bowl water at Apple offices. And your answers were A, soak his feet, B, wash his armpits, B, ferment kombucha, or D, fill water pistols to spray at employees. Yeah, yeah. I couldn't believe any of these are real, but you're right. A is the right one.
Starting point is 00:07:19 He soaked his feet. Yeah. He would get stressed and he would like, it would chill him out to put his feet in the cold water. Now, if I were playing, like if I were in the huts seat and I didn't know this answer, right? I would see that fill water pistols Basically I would see that fourth answer there And if you put it back up on screen
Starting point is 00:07:38 It's like they've got you know three shorter answers And then a big long answer that's jammed into a into a single spot And if I didn't know the answer My immediate thought would be oh well that's got to be the right answer Because if they're coming up with other answers To you know To fit the category They're not going to come up with one that is super dumb and long that has to be squished to fit in the space that they've got.
Starting point is 00:08:06 Yeah. But, yeah, in this case, they did. So they blew my whole theory about, no, they never write something that long when, you know, he could have written something shorter. Do we know if she got this? Does anybody know if she ended up winning? I don't know how to do this is. No, no idea. Let me look it up here.
Starting point is 00:08:24 I don't even know who that is. Like what, I'm not even, I'm sure. They're currently doing, they're currently doing. Yeah, it's absolutely a millionaire. And they're currently doing celebrity millionaire. Oh, my gosh, that is Wendy MacLendon Covey. Oh, really? Yeah, that's Beverly Goldberg.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Oh, all right. You know, 9-1-1. And she did not get the answer. It was her and, oh, my gosh. She does a nice ring. Daily show. She does have some of it. Those rings are nice.
Starting point is 00:08:54 I'd wear those if I was a lady. Even as a dude. I might wear those. it's Michael Cost Costa from a daily show oh no way because she did daily show stuff didn't she did she back in the day I don't remember yeah
Starting point is 00:09:10 and they missed this one it was their what was the number on there 250 million yeah yeah or 250 million 250 grand question and they missed it they said they actually did pick the the squirt guns one are they playing Um, for charity is what?
Starting point is 00:09:31 Yeah. That's what this is? Yeah, for charity. And is that all this is anymore or is there regular contestants on the show? I didn't even know the show is still going. I think it's all, it's hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. And God, they had one. The last one I've seen, so this must be brand new.
Starting point is 00:09:45 The last one I saw was Larry David and his daughter. And didn't even know he had a daughter, right? but she is hilarious. She looks a little bit like Mikey Madison from Anora. She younger? Like 20s or something? Yeah, she seems like she's in her 20s. He's sort of late with the kids.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Yes, he did. But she has got a, like you have to, if you grow up in a house with Larry David, I assume she grew up at least for some time with Larry in the house. but you grow up with a real sarcastic wit and uh it's her right here she does look like what's her name
Starting point is 00:10:31 yeah um you can tell she she takes no crap from anyone that look right there says zero F's oh she was dating why does everyone date this guy hold on don't tell me machine gun Kelly no this dude john davidson
Starting point is 00:10:49 oh Pete Davidson or Pete why John Davidson was on real people uh because reportedly he's got a he's got massive endowments
Starting point is 00:11:01 okay go ahead place a mark in my column Monica go ahead so why that's how he that's really a thing
Starting point is 00:11:10 see it seems like if you were if you were a famous person and then later you were like I think I'm going to date Pete everyone would just say oh you're doing that
Starting point is 00:11:19 because I mean they're not going to say it's because of the dark bags under his eyes I really I'm really drawn to the heroin chic look. Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:11:31 It's wild. I don't know if she still is or not, but that photo was... Yeah, but I mean, he was with Ariana Grande, who's the British actress, not Cura Knightley. She was in serendipity. She was in... Oh, my gosh. Why am I blanking on her name? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Is that a recent one? No. One of the Freaky Beckinsale. Oh. Thank you. deck januels i thought she was with she's not with b uh not beber um in sync dude what's his name getting his name it's got to be may who is it justin timberle i thought they were married him and beck and sale no um apparently not at this time oh all right i thought they
Starting point is 00:12:16 yeah i thought they were still together i don't know kim kardashian elsie hewitt uh look at this oh my god all right Hold on, you gotta see this list. I'll put it in our, I'll put it in our, uh, Oh, Jessica Beals who I'm thinking of. Oh, yeah, Jessica Beal. Yeah, she, that's right. Yeah, she's married to Justin.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Yeah. I knew it wasn't, I knew the name you were looking for was not Lance Bass. I was pretty confident that that, definitely not that guy. Look at that list I just put in our TMS Discord folder. That is, um, his, the 11 year dating history from 2015 to 2026. Man, this dude never slows. down. No, he really doesn't. 4, 5, 6, 7.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Margaret Qualley. 10, 11, 12. Geez. Yeah. So that's one, that's more, that's one point something people per year. That he's with, you know, that he's like with for a period of time.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Right. Yeah, yeah. And Quali was 2019. dated a couple of months in the autumn. In the autumn. I love that. Oh, yes. Pete Davidson, Margaret Qualley dated for a couple of months in the autumn.
Starting point is 00:13:27 And I forgot he was with Kim Kardashian after the, oh, yeah. The Ye fallout. Boy, the, yeah, Kanye did not have nice things to say about Pete Davidson for that whole time. Oh, he has a kid with the latest one. Yeah, with Elsie Hewitt. I don't know who she is. So wait, where's, I don't see, oh, Cassie David. That's the second one.
Starting point is 00:13:52 That's her. That's Larry David's daughter then. Oh, oh, Cassie. Cassie David. Yeah. That's a weird name. I feel like there's an episode of Seinfeld about that. Chase Sway Wonders. Why do I know that name? No.
Starting point is 00:14:10 She was in. I know what she did last summer, the remake. Oh, the studio. Okay. That's what I've seen her in. All right. Well, well done, Pete Davidson. You did it. You pulled it off. That's right. Digital hype says TMS Friday, the Us Weekly Edition. Yes. Next we're going to talk about who were at best. Yeah. That's right. right. Who needs TMZ when you have this show on a Friday? That's right. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:14:34 We won't tell you when people die, though, because we don't have that kind of information. No, but we'll talk about them the day before. Yeah. Absolutely. Well, better luck next time to Lady from Reno 911.
Starting point is 00:14:47 I hope you get your 250 grand for charity. Some other way. Maybe maybe by working hard and continuing to do great sitcom performances. Yeah, that's really all we can ask for me. She is hilarious. I don't think, I don't know if you've seen that. the hospital one, St. Dennis, medical, St. Dennis.
Starting point is 00:15:04 I've seen some. I guess it didn't occur to me. She was in it. I didn't get that far. Maybe. I saw a little bit of it. She's in every episode. She's the director of the hospital. I probably spaced it. I think I saw that first episode went, oh, I'll like this. I'll wait until these are all out. And then I never got you. And then, yeah, I never went back to it. We'll go back to it. Is that still a thing or do they end that? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Nope. There's that, I believe it's been renewed. It's been picked up as the tabloids say. Nice. I'm into it.
Starting point is 00:15:35 I want to watch it. I like comedy. Yeah, and that's a great ensemble comedy. I mean, Alison Tolman from Fargo, Josh Lawson, David Allen Greer is hilarious in it. I like him.
Starting point is 00:15:48 It might be my favorite thing that David Allen Greer is in. I feel like we went a long time without him in anything, didn't we? We did, yeah. Yeah, kind of disappeared. Yeah. It's like in living color and then a bunch of movie rolls and then poof, nothing.
Starting point is 00:16:04 It's good to know he's back. Yes. All right, guys, we're going to do some well-actuallys. You guys have been correcting us and we may as well take those corrections in stride. Let's do those, Brian. Oh, I got a thing to play for that. Oh, yes. Play our.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Well, actually. There you go. All right. Let's start with TARDIS. We talked about this. TARDIS isn't a acronym. It was referred to as an acronym for time. relative dimension in space in the very first episode in 1963. You might be meaning to say that
Starting point is 00:16:35 in its conception the word came first, but I don't think I've ever found any description how that came about. It's not like TARDIS is a normal word person I think of. Well, I mean, if the word came first and then they came up with what it stood for, then that means it's a backronym. Yeah, that's the definition of a backronym. Yeah. So I don't know if that's a, if there's a background of this thing but I you know what I honestly thought that that because of the show TARDIS has became a nickname for police boxes oh and so I didn't know that I know I don't know if that's true now I thought that I thought that they did though in the UK like so I don't know for sure all right the mountain in Scotland according to
Starting point is 00:17:21 Travis is Ben Nevis which translates to the mountain of the Nevis nevis is a river and Ben Nevis is the mountain next to it near Fort Willing Scotland. So we had talked about I think someone got trapped on the mountain in one of our news stories and we were like, the name of the mountain is Ben Nevis. That's the name of the person who
Starting point is 00:17:40 Simonizes my car at the dealership. Yeah, sounds like a dude. So, wait, so Ben in some Gaelic or ancient tongue or whatever means mountain. It means mountain. Interesting. So when they say Big Ben in Europe, obviously it's that clock, but
Starting point is 00:17:56 it's actually the bell. Is it the bell? The bell, I think, is the, is Big Ben. Oh, am I getting this wrong? It's not the tower. It is the bell? Big Ben is not the tower. Zoe.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Or is it, or is it the clock? Zoe seems to confirm. Okay, yep, confirmed. It's the bell inside. So when they say that, some people hear... Big Mountain. Big Mountain. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:21 I don't know. There might be connection between the two, between the term for mountain and the bell inside there, but probably not. John C. A Philly Codhound says John C. Dvorak was the nephew of the Dvorak keyboard layout person per Wikipedia. So they were related. Well, I claimed it was his dad. So that's the correction. But yeah, they were actually related. I just gave him the wrong relation. They were not relations. It was his uncle.
Starting point is 00:18:52 They were not relations. Yeah. This actually surprised me. P.W. said, well, actually, you were discussing lyrics for TV theme songs that were usually instrumentals for shows like Bonanza and the Andy Griffith show. There's a well-known scam about adding lyrics to TV themes that he said he was surprised that I didn't mention. Basically, royalties are paid to the composer every time a theme that I know. If you officially attach lyrics to a theme, then the royalties get split 50-50 between the composer and the lyricist, even if only the instrumental gets played. So notoriously, Gene Roddenberry officially attach
Starting point is 00:19:27 lyrics to the Star Trek theme without the original composer's knowledge and got paid half the royalties. It's possible the lyrics to Bonanza and Andy Griffith show are the same scam. I don't understand how you get away with that, though. I know. It does see. It's so shady, such a shady deal. And it seems like there's a lot of it going on, certainly in the 60s, because that's every example we've mentioned is from that era. Right. Right. I wonder if that's still true. Like, is it still true? Does someone take, does the Breaking Bad theme? have lyrics and someone gets half the stuff because of it.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Right. If somebody rewrote some lyrics to that, would they automatically get, you know, you don't know how you officially, you have to be able to officially tie those lyrics to the things. So you have to have some permission to the, from the showrunner or somebody. Yeah, I'm going to guess. I'm guessing that stuff has changed some. It has to. But that seems crazy.
Starting point is 00:20:20 It's like Roddenberry comes in one day. Hey, you guys, guess what I did? I wrote some lyrics. Now I get half the money anyway. Exactly. Because I wasn't getting enough from. everything else on the show, but yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:20:30 I'm going to, when we're done here, I'm going to go ahead and write some lyrics to the Miami Vice theme. Oh, great. We'll see. I love it. We'll see how it goes. All right. Check it out.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Let's see. Philly Codhound. This one we did cover. Great Britain is Scotland, England, and Wales. UK is both islands. Ireland, Northern Ireland. I'm sorry. United Kingdom.
Starting point is 00:20:51 We're not going to get into this again. No. Because I'm going to end up screwing it up again. Yeah. But we, yeah. the correction has already come over the wire. That's right. Racer 951. Why cleared up the Girl Scout cookies thing?
Starting point is 00:21:03 We talked about that on the east of the Mississippi, west of the Mississippi, there are different names for things. It's actually not even as clean as that. There you go. That's the map right there. So in the green areas, I don't know if it says which one is which. But like, we're talking about- And ABC bakers are the two here. Yeah, and those are the baking companies.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Oh, I see. So it's like the different cookie names. So like, I think it was Samoa's or called something in the green, called something different in the in the, in the orange. Yeah, they're either, it's one, one direction or the other. But I think they now call those Samoas, they call them whatever the new thing is here. So I think the green, unless that's changed, the green is the green is the new. new name. Right. And the brown or whatever this color is is the, is the other one. Okay. Or all the racists live. Just kidding. It's not true. All right. Let's get this out of the way.
Starting point is 00:22:07 The UK is not Ireland. It's Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England. Yeah. Didn't we say that? I thought we said that. Do we not say that? I think I may have misspoke when I said it a minute ago. All right. I thought you said it right. Well, actually from July 29, the Busy Bottom theme is My Life, one of the first piano songs I tried to learn. By the way, my wife and I were in Salt Lake for the totally tubular festival last week. And it was awesome, thanks to KT Data for the to-do list. We managed to hit a couple of the places from near TACC.
Starting point is 00:22:34 Oh, nice. Jeff. Very cool, Jeff. So, Buzz and Buddy's theme was called My Life. It's the Billy Joel song. I don't care what you say anymore. This is my life. I always forget they did that.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Yeah. Did I? And I'd be surprised if I said something different because I was a huge fan of that show. I even have the DVD of all the episodes. Yeah, and I don't think I know enough to have remembered that, so I wouldn't have made a false claim about the song. I think it's interesting. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:23:02 Oh, you know what? I might have mistaken and said it was moving out by Billy Joel. Oh, I can see that. They're similar. Yeah. They're cut from the same block of cheese, you know? It's the same really good period of Billy Joel's career. Sure.
Starting point is 00:23:18 That I really enjoyed. Sure. Sure, sure. All right. And finally, TRPW says, well, actually, you were discussing vampires in their castles. Dracula only had a castle because he was an aristocrat account, to be precise. Of course, any self-respecting, long-lived vampire ought to be able to earn enough to buy a castle. What was the conversation this came up then? I don't remember. I don't remember talking about vampires and castles. Did it come up? 8.5. You know what it might have been? Oh, I think I know what it was. What was it?
Starting point is 00:23:50 One of the code you gave away was V Rising, which is the vampire like survivor game. It's not vampire survivor, but you create a vampire and he needs to, you know, suck blood and build his empire in this forest. And part of that is you build a castle. Okay. I think we were talking about how, yeah, you got to hurry up and do all this stuff to get your castle. Maybe that's what he's reacting to him. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Yeah, could easily be. Okay. Cool. Not sure. But there you go. TRPW. Well done. And well done, everybody, for your excellent work.
Starting point is 00:24:22 You can't count my mention of bosom buddies in the genital counter. It does not, it does not apply. What, oh, bosom? Yeah, Monica's list of scoring general discussion. I don't think bosom counts, does it? No, it does not count. Busom isn't genitalia, Wicked Kitten. Exactly, exactly.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Right? I mean, I know. I say it's, I say it's not. I know we cover them up. I say if you can walk around with them out in Europe, then they're not genitals. I just watch that Burning Man
Starting point is 00:24:54 documentary in HBO. Oh, how was that? Very good. Highly recommend it. Wild, that thing. Did it make you feel gross after you watched it? A little bit. There are times where I just like, how are you guys doing that in that tent? Like, bleh. But it's also a lot of art and it's dry heat and it's fine. But whatever,
Starting point is 00:25:11 there's this there's a whole, there's a part of this thing where the first thing these people do is drop their pants and about how they're freeing the wiener and they walk around talking about it naked and it's an HBO doc so there ain't no hiding any of that so it's just like an awkward it's like an awkward 10 minutes in that documentary it's really interesting though because it's like a look at the history of the thing but they get real things get gnarly for the pandemic and then it gets even weirder when they had that
Starting point is 00:25:39 storm and most of the stuff that happened during the storm stuck yeah when they got trapped out there Yeah, but it wasn't as bad as the news made it seem. Like, the news was acting like it was the biggest scandal mess in the history of anything. Right. And it really wasn't. Like, it's an interesting thing. Also, you think Elon Musk is kind of a pud? Wait until you spend some time with his brother Kimball.
Starting point is 00:26:04 That guy's up. I didn't realize. I never knew he had a brother. Yeah, he's got a brother named Kimball who doesn't make anything. He just has all this adjacent money. Yeah, rides the. All you have to do is say. Your brother. You don't even have to get money directly from him, I think. But he tries to muscle in. Like a lot of these like millionaire, multi-millionaire, billionaire people try to muscle in on the event and kind of take parts of it over and gentrify this or that or whatever. And he's kind of the worst. And he's off the board now. But for a while he was on the board. Anyway, I recommend that though. It's fun to watch. Yeah, definitely one I want to see. So I'm glad. I was really good. I watched it. Cool. All right. Well, there you go. Let's get to today's quiz, everybody.
Starting point is 00:26:45 All right. You ready for this? I think so. This is a little weird because the scoring is very odd, but that's okay. We're going to figure it out as we go. Apparently, Brian has a bunch of questions to answer. There are five possible lengths of song for you to determine from. So this is not only short song clips, but short reversed song clips.
Starting point is 00:27:10 Correct. Going from like a second, I think up to 10 seconds, I think. I think that's right. And three, five, ten. There we go. And your deal will be to, I guess, you start with the lowest. There's no reason to jump higher. Yeah, no, exactly. And I get more points if I get it on the one versus getting on the three or the five or the ten. Right. And then there's a whole like reveal at the end. And then he's giving me a scoring card. So there's the rough rules.
Starting point is 00:27:35 Okay. We're going to give this a shot. Here's number one. I haven't previewed any of this. So let's see if we can just figure it out as we go. So here we go. Here's number one. Oh, that's easy. oh is it yeah I think I think so but wow I might be wrong I'm not looking so I don't know can you play it again for me
Starting point is 00:27:53 yeah here we go wow I'm gonna need the three all right there's a three here we go oh sandbar and I'm not looking at the answers they don't actually show up
Starting point is 00:28:18 until I choose the thing so hmm um um I might be wrong. I have no idea. I won't let me back again.
Starting point is 00:28:33 A heartful of soul is where I'm getting, where I'm going with that. I don't know if that's, I don't know if that's right. And there's no theme or anything like, you know, 60s songs or 70s songs or 80s songs or anything like that.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Let me check a spreadsheet. He might have written something in here. I don't think so, though. Oh, it's just actually, it's a cover. Each song, let's see, that's it. The only description is actually it's a cover. Actually, it's a cover.
Starting point is 00:29:00 Okay. Okay. All right. I'm with it on the first one here because I don't think the heartful of soul that he would pull from that I'm hearing is not a, is not a cover. So I guess I need the five on this one. Here's the fiver. God.
Starting point is 00:29:21 It's still giving me heartful of soul vibes. I'm going to say it's heartful of soul by Who was the hit? Have me back again. The animals. Let's find out. Oh, it's not. Let's see if I was right.
Starting point is 00:29:36 I'm going to do the song reveal. Oh, Crimey. Yeah. Tainted love. Yeah. Tainted love. Okay. I thought that was right.
Starting point is 00:29:44 Yeah. I wasn't sure about the band, though. I wouldn't have got the band right. Although, does he care about band on this? I think he does. Yeah. Let's see. No, he doesn't give us a way to score that.
Starting point is 00:29:55 He just gives us the timer. So if you just said soft sell or tainted love, I give it to you. I feel like I should have to get both. Okay. All right. We can do that. That's a rule for me.
Starting point is 00:30:05 So on this one we hit missed. Yeah, that one, that one absolutely, like looking at the chat room, it's like, oh, good Lord, I absolutely should have gotten that. But I never remember the name soft sell ever. I don't know why. That's funny. It's like the band doesn't even exist in my. I always remember Mark Allman.
Starting point is 00:30:21 I can't tell you the name of the. The second guy in soft cell who passed away last year. No, earlier this year. Oh, recent. Yeah. He was the softest of the two cells. He was the softer cell. Softer cell of the two cells.
Starting point is 00:30:38 All right. Here comes question number two. I guess we'll just start with second clip. Yeah. Number one second clip. Here we go. Well, that one I don't know. Here it is again because it's so short.
Starting point is 00:30:52 Yeah. Is that? I'm thinking I love rock and roll by Joan Jett. Say that. I'll say that. Congratulations. You did it. That gives you.
Starting point is 00:31:08 Let's see. Now this will actually tell me how the score. So if I go one second, I mean, it doesn't originally by the arrows, I believe. It's not actually generating the code he made. It just says,
Starting point is 00:31:22 it just lets me choose the one second and says you did it, but there's no score generated from that. Maybe you have to get it all through these. I don't know. I don't know if Jamie tested this part. Yeah, I think at the end it tells you that my final score. Okay. Yep. All right, that's good to know.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Okay, let's move on to the next one. Well done on that one. Question number three. Oh, God, that sounds familiar. One more time. And again, this is only, well, actually, it's only, so these are all covers. Yeah. Yep, these are all songs better known by their cover than the original.
Starting point is 00:32:02 I need the three. All right. Let's give you number three. Three seconds. Oh, respect by Aretha Franklin. That is absolutely 100% correct. Originally Otis Redding. Yep.
Starting point is 00:32:19 Yeah. All right. So that was a three second. Wow. It does not sound like Aretha Franklin reversed. Like it sounds like a higher, like a Shirley Bassy or something. Oh, it really does. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:31 Yeah. That's weird now that I hear it. All right. Question number four, this is, we'll see that was three seconds, right? Yep, got that on the three. Here we go on four. Here's your one second.
Starting point is 00:32:45 One more time. That's a weird one. It really is. I think somebody needs to get a mark on the genital scoreboard. That, thinking rock and roll music by the Beatles, but I'm not, I don't. I need the three.
Starting point is 00:33:11 All right. Here's the three. Oh. I think I hear it now. Is it, is it Elvis Presley? It sounds like Jail Cross Rock, but that was his originally. That's totally what I'm hearing. You get a replay.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Do you want to replay? Let me have one more replay. I just made that rule up, but we'll just say you get a replay anything. jeez all right um i mean that's elvis presley i'll tell you i'm gonna say jailhouse i'm gonna say jailhouse rock elvis presley you are correct about presley yeah you're wrong about the song which one is this song you ain't nothing about a hell of course it is yes big mama thornton uh yeah all right so that one goes so if you don't get both names i think i have i'm gonna say i have to get both in order to get a point
Starting point is 00:34:17 All right. That's going to be my rule. All right. Here is number five. Your one second clip. Jeez. Sound a hard one. One more time on that.
Starting point is 00:34:30 Yeah. Why didn't it play? Is it, my initial thought is Bengals. Hazy shade of winter, but I don't think that's it. Let's go to the three. Oh, I do like that cover, though. Yeah. All right, here you go.
Starting point is 00:34:55 Blinded by the light. That's Manfred Man's Earth Band covering Bruce Springsteen. You are correct. Well done. Should have gotten that quicker. Damn it. You know, you did good. That was a hard one with the short one.
Starting point is 00:35:09 I don't know. Yeah. Who gets that one? That's great. I thought it was hearing female vocals. I could not get out of female vocals on that one. All right. Question number six.
Starting point is 00:35:17 And here is your one second clip. What the heck? was that. Wow. First thing I'm thinking is spooky by Classics 4, but I don't think that's it. Let's go. Let's get. Oh, Black Magic Woman, Santana. Let's see if you're right. Why isn't
Starting point is 00:35:37 this button working? Here we go. Nicely done. Fleetwood Mac on the original. One second. Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, yeah. Yeah, he didn't do. The one other thing he didn't do in here is included any of the originals, but. Which is fine. That's what I'm here for. You're probably all that. All right. Here's
Starting point is 00:35:53 number seven and our one second clip. What in the heck? Let me hear it again. Wank, go back. It's the drums after it that sounds really familiar. I need the three. There's the three.
Starting point is 00:36:30 I think the aliens are trying to contact it. This is what got Emily Blunt and Disclosure Day right here. This is killing me. It's so familiar. You want a second play on that one? Let me give a second play on the three. Yeah, it's like, um, uh, I'd never get this one.
Starting point is 00:37:00 Rock on by David Essex is what's, um, no, that's not it. It's not it. Or is it? It's that echo, because it's got an echo on it, like rocked on by David Isicks. But again, I think that was the original. All right. Let me take the five. All right.
Starting point is 00:37:22 Here's your five. Golly. That near dear thing is really throwing me. It really is. I couldn't do it. I don't know how you do this one, but it's just me, maybe. yeah i don't know why i mean it is it's sounding so familiar but let me get another play on the five there you go
Starting point is 00:37:46 it's that drums too that let's go ten i didn't think i'd need to use one of these but So the 10 is really just the five twice. It kind of is. Yeah, it really is. This is killing me. I don't know this one.
Starting point is 00:38:25 I got to take a zero on it. All right. This is, where's the real one? Hold on. Oh, there it is. Okay, here we go. For Pete's sake, it's the rap. It's the rap part of red, red wine.
Starting point is 00:38:41 It makes me feel so fine. You keep me rocking all of the dime. Yeah, so red, red wine sounds like, Neer, New. Jeez. Oh, man. Originally, originally Neal Diamond. Yeah, I like the Neal Diamond.
Starting point is 00:38:55 I do too. It's fun to listen to. I mean, if you've never heard it, it's weird because you'll just think of 2B40, but it's really good. Stupid rap interlude part, which I really like, but it's, you know, that's what gets me. like you give me any of the Allie Campbell vocals.
Starting point is 00:39:09 I got no problem with it, but it's the, yeah, I'm going to say, I'm going to say it's not, what's the word? It's, it's not like he's being unfair with that particular pick. Yeah, yeah. But, no, I should have gotten that
Starting point is 00:39:23 because I played freaking, oh, what was that called? It was, uh, Labor of Love played that freaking CD over and over and over again. That thing is burned into my brain. did a cover of one of the songs on there, like recorded our cassio tone cover of something on there. Just weird, though,
Starting point is 00:39:42 because I only think of this song and kind of nothing else with UB40. Yeah. I bet, you know, there's, they, um, even though I liked all of it.
Starting point is 00:39:51 I just don't remember it. Like, come and take me was a big hit for him. Come and take me. Here I am, baby. Yeah, and,
Starting point is 00:39:58 um, breakfast in bed was always my favorite with, uh, Chrissy Hind from the pretenders joining Allie Campbell and doing a really cool duet cover of a dusty Springfield song. All right. Here is your number eight option. And we're going to go ahead and play your one second clip to start that one off.
Starting point is 00:40:19 Oh, that's so familiar. One more time. Ebertababby. All right, three, three seconds. Is it I fought the law by the clash? You would be. I don't have this handy enough to do this right. There we go.
Starting point is 00:40:44 Correct. Nicely done. All right. You got that one. Bobby Fuller. Crickets and then Bobby Fuller 4. Yep. Nice.
Starting point is 00:40:51 All right. We have, here is your penultimate. Okay. Oh, I just got a glance at the name. I don't know how you're going to get this. Great.
Starting point is 00:41:00 Well, let's see how they play it. Maybe they do it. All right. Okay. Who knows. Yeah. Oh,
Starting point is 00:41:05 that's, uh, yeah, that's a Betty Davis size by Kim Carnes. You are correct. Covering Jackie DeShannon. I thought that was going to be hard. It was easy.
Starting point is 00:41:14 Yeah. I mean, even if you give me some of those, those crusty, I smoke 18 packs a day vocals, I probably wouldn't have had a hard time with it. Yeah. That is a junior high memory time for me. For sure. For sure. Feels weird to hear it. All right. Here is your final question. Let's see how you do. Number 10. Here we go. One second. Oh, that's easy. you say that when you say that it totally screws me up okay one more time on it i it's because that tape was on repeat until the tape broke for me yeah wow okay yeah chat got it too um why is it wow it is it is not clicking for me give me the three here's the three was the lead zeppelin um oh oh
Starting point is 00:42:17 It did so many covers. Black Dog? I will say that this is a surprise to me that it's a cover. I had no idea. A complete surprise. I'm going to say Led Zeppelin Black Dog. Oh, I'm so sorry. It is this right here.
Starting point is 00:42:41 Damn it. Yeah. Who did the original of that? Slade. Slade was the original. Slade? Yeah. What?
Starting point is 00:42:50 Yeah. All right. I did not know that. I should know that. I should know that. And the reason I have a very good excuse for I had problems with that, because my vinyl copy of metal health by Slade is misprinted. It has Barbara Streisand heavy metal, or I'm sorry,
Starting point is 00:43:07 Barbara Streisand memories on the other side. Oh, really? Yeah. Want me to grab it? I've got it. I would love to see that. All right. That'll be a great way to end this contest because I can't believe that exists.
Starting point is 00:43:20 Yeah, Chad, you guys were on it today. most of you got stuff quick I noticed and that's impressive let's see who got this one first oh now I lost it and went too fast they didn't even want to record it so they did what they thought
Starting point is 00:43:38 was a terrible version and became their biggest hit I didn't know that either but that's crazy I mean honestly nothing else on that album came even close to getting the radio play that come on field the noise got like that thing was that was the singular hit of that album everything else on there real forgettable like i played it and played it and played it because i thought it was cool and me and all my friends were like yeah man quiet riot take that parents rebellion
Starting point is 00:44:08 all that stuff but at the end of the day they're pretty one note you don't you don't see a lot of like petitions to get them in the rock and roll Hall of Fame or anything. Can you imagine? This year, we're inducting the members of Quiet Riot and their classic cover of a thing no one knew is a cover. Congratulations. Yeah, so I don't know.
Starting point is 00:44:43 I don't know why that, I don't know, I don't know why that was such a, such a huge hit for them if they didn't even want it to be one. That's really funny. Yeah, it's. somewhere, man, maybe I... Oh, can't find it? I don't hear you right now if you're talking. I hear it come in and come out.
Starting point is 00:45:03 It's a gate on your thing. Yeah. I have the same problem. Not really a problem. It's actually good, right? It's what we like about our mixers. Exactly. Yep. It's my favorite thing about mine. Too many albums in too many places I cannot find Mike White right.
Starting point is 00:45:17 I will find it. That is awesome that you have that. Yes. I love it. All right, you were right about the scoring. It doesn't show anything in this field. it's finished. Until it's finished. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:27 Your final result, percentage, 51%, letter grade. Yeah, better than half. Letter grade, you're the population of women in the U.S. is what you are. You're 51%. You know what? I'll take that. That means I'm the smarter half.
Starting point is 00:45:43 And then your letter grade is a D. Yeah. Yeah. And there's no previous, oh, I see, he's got this setup so that when there's new ones, it will do a cumulative over time. Oh, that's cool. That's kind of cool.
Starting point is 00:45:54 That's kind of cool. I like that. I like this. All right. Well, Jamie, thank you for that. That was awesome. And I learned a thing or two. I didn't know that was a cover.
Starting point is 00:46:05 It was the main thing. Quiet riot. Damn it. Yeah. That was a hard one. That was, well, it shouldn't have been. In hindsight, no, I absolutely should have gotten that because that's a biggie. It's a bigin.
Starting point is 00:46:16 It's a bigin. Well, everybody, big thanks for hanging out with us today. We had a good time. We hope you did it as well. Don't forget. TMS airs, normal episodes on Monday through Thursdays. Because we missed Thursday this week, we're going to put this one out on the public feed.
Starting point is 00:46:31 So if you're listening to this and you're not someone who normally gets this version of the show, you get one of these every Friday, except for the final week of Fridays or of the month, rather, because that's our play date, a whole other fun thing we do. But if you're a patron, you get it no matter what. Every week, hop in there, get it. It's yours. All right. You get all the old ones that way, too.
Starting point is 00:46:50 You can go back and listen to everything. You just have to become a patron to do it at patreon.com slash TMS. For everybody who's usually here on a Friday, you know the drill. You know what's going on. And everybody joins us this weekend for an episode of Film Sack. We're watching Masters of the Universe. Brian already consumed it is my understanding. I did. I did.
Starting point is 00:47:10 It's going to be a lot of fun to talk about. And I'm not going to say anything else because I have feelings about it, but I don't want anything I say to influence how you feel about it. All right. I'm going to watch it tonight. Cool. Very excited. We're seeing the new one, the brand new one, Sandbar, the one that just came out of theater is a month ago. Yeah, the one without He Man in the title. They don't put his name in there.
Starting point is 00:47:34 Correct. Yeah. It's kind of weird, but whatever. I'm into it. I'm very excited to see it. And I don't know that I should be. I don't know why I'm excited to see it. Probably because... You should be excited to see it. Okay. All right. And that's, you know what, again, I'm not going to fall into my trap of saying anything more than that. All right. Well, I'm stoked. So we'll let you know how that goes this weekend when you tune in at FilmSack.com, everybody. That'll do it for today. You're doing a guest connection right after this?
Starting point is 00:48:00 I am. Yes, I'm glad you brought it up. Yeah, so right after this, I'll fire up the guest connection stream and start that around 1015, 1020. I've got a good one today, too. Nice. Come get some prizes, win and be better for it, everybody. That's right. We're going to get out of here, though, with a song.
Starting point is 00:48:16 We're going to play it live like we do on Fridays, and Brian will now describe what the hell it is. Yes, Sabriel wrote in and said, is there a cover of We Built This City that actually makes the song seem good, the key phrase being seem good, if not. I'd love to hear a cover of some popular Duran Duran songs, like perhaps Hunger, like the Wolf or Girls on film,
Starting point is 00:48:36 if you have them. No, Sabriel, you issued me a challenge, and I'm going to take you up on that challenge. I think that in the right hands, the right musician can make any song good. I agree with that. Exactly. I mean, I think you could have somebody who'd make
Starting point is 00:48:59 I'm too sexy by right side Fred good in the right hands. So this is going to be the test. We're going to see what people think about this one. This is a band called the Exerts. Just X, C, E-R-T, like is in X and then the Mint that had Retson. This is from their album. so one no one told i'm sorry from their ep so no one told you life was going to be this way so you could probably guess what other song there might they might cover on that same ep uh it's a cover
Starting point is 00:49:31 of starship came out in 2020 here are the excerpts and we built this city Sinking in your fight To the night he runs Aided Markoney plays the mumper Listen to radio Don't you remember Fucking
