All right.
Jordy, you have your phone on you.
I'm going to have to do the block height, aren't I?
Oh, we got to do the block height.
I got it.
I got it.
I got it.
Wait, what podcast is this?
I'm about to get there.
I'm about to get there.
Oh, okay.
Good.
Let me just pull that out.
Welcome to episode 10.
Zero, one, zero.
Zero, one, zero.
Yeah.
Bingo.
Bingo.
Zero, one, zero.
Okay. Okay. Okay. All10. Bingo. Bingo. 010. Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Podcast.
Grant's your host.
Welcome back, everyone, to the...
Okay.
Okay.
Okay podcast.
Episode 010, powered by The Strength Co.
I am your host, Grant Brogy.
I am here with Jeff Bougie,
Trey Gottlich, and PJ. And we're recording live from the Arnold. If I sound different,
it's because I don't have a voice. But while some things change, some things remain the same.
And we will start by handing PJ my Wi-Fi enabled device so that he can tell us what the price of Bitcoin is
and what the block height is currently at.
We're going to figure this out with very bad service.
At some point in time, we have to discuss exactly what block height is.
Yeah, but that's for a different time.
Yeah, that's for a different time.
That's a whole episode, I think.
We'll discuss the height of the block and why it matters.
All right, here we go.
Okay, block height is 832,880 as of the Arnold.
And what's the price of Bitcoin?
Amazing.
Let's figure that out now.
Coming up real soon.
You can just type in BTC.
That's what I always do.
And three, two, $61,970.
Wow.
We're pumping a bargain at any price.
I assume there's a correlation between
us talking every week and
Bitcoin going up?
The data shows.
Okay, podcast started.
We go up about
5% an episode.
That's what we're saying.
Wow.
Oh, it's solid.
Solid returns.
Those are great returns.
You're welcome.
It's good.
You're welcome to the viewers.
You can't afford not to listen.
Yeah.
But you probably can't afford to buy either right now.
That is true.
That is true.
No, you can always afford.
It's always cheap.
It's always cheaper.
Wow.
And then I think what comes with all the gains and returns from your Blockhide investment
is now you have to worry about taxes.
That's right.
And so I think we need to shout out our sponsor, BWTaxLLC.com for all your tax preparation needs.
Check them out. BWTaxLLC.com. Doesn't matter where you're living. If you're in
South Carolina, where they're based out of, if you're in Columbus, Ohio at the Arnold,
go check them out.
Get all your tax preparation checked out and needed.
Trey.
I feel like that, first of all, great job.
Phenomenal reading that. Wait, attention to orders.
Attention to orders.
Excuse me.
I almost feel like we should almost always just cut to Tanner.
Yeah.
Oh, my gosh.
That's amazing.
Well, let's tell the viewers where
we are obviously it's a little bit different we're at the arnold and we might be so lucky that tanner
may we even walk by oh my gosh and just riff on bw tax which would be cool that would be phenomenal
so uh but yeah bw tax are paid sponsors they're the people that let this episode come to you
week in and week out for 10 weeks.
Real quick, I'm drinking a Jocko Go.
Is it good?
Discipline?
Yeah, I feel freedom.
Freedom.
Because it's the same thing.
It's the same thing.
Discipline equals freedom.
Oh, let's bring Jen Thompson.
Bring her in. Special guest. Friend of the podcast. Discipline equals freedom. Oh, let's bring Jen Thompson. Bring her in.
Special guest.
Friend of the podcast.
Jen, take a seat.
Oh, my gosh.
I don't have a voice, so you're a little late, but better late than never.
Sorry.
It went for so long, and they're still not done over there.
Like, they're just, I don't know, CT Fletcher's over there, and they're just, I don't know.
He was here earlier. We're big
fans of C.T. Great guy.
He was high-fiving me after every
attempt. Oh, seriously?
So you had to go get a medal, right?
Well, they still haven't
given him out. Are you serious? I was like, forget
about it. Gave over here.
I think there was too much weight on the bar.
They're like, wait, how did Jen Thompson
lift all this weight? I don't know, but it was like I went for the world record.
Yeah.
I did 123.
Oh, my gosh.
Most a woman's ever done.
Oh, my gosh.
And I did it.
Did you really?
My butt came up, so I took it away.
Okay.
Two to one.
Go to the tape.
Go to the tape.
Yeah.
Okay, podcast.
It looked good to me.
Yeah.
Okay, podcast. Three white lights.
Three white lights.
I did curl it, though. It didn't count.
But it went all the way down to up.
I feel like it counts.
In my book, I feel like it counts.
I'm going to post it that I did it.
I won't say it's not the world record because that wouldn't be true.
I'll leave a comment
saying that you got it. I'm like, that looks like the world record to me.
That's super impressive.
But that's the world record to me.
Incredibly impressive.
Well, congratulations.
Thank you.
Yeah, absolutely.
I'm Trey, by the way.
Hi, Trey.
It's real nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
Or PJ on the podcast.
What podcast are we on?
This is the OK Podcast.
OK Podcast.
Powered by the Strength Co.
Yeah.
OK, got you.
Yeah.
So tomorrow I'm going to try to break my world bench record.
Wow.
Wow.
And what's that?
Well, it's currently 322.5.
So I'm feeling pretty confident about 325 tomorrow.
You feeling good?
Yeah.
I hit it in the gym.
So I usually do a little better when we're on the stage.
You got some people around you.
Yeah.
I see you.
I see you yelling at you.
So we'll see. So how much is like whenever you're up there like adrenaline kind of like play into it really
high because like the strict curl like i barely got 115 at home oh yeah and i nailed that 120
so like it definitely a hundred percent yeah plus you give yourself a little bit of rest going into
it so you know that sort of helps but and there's a little bit of rest going into it. So, you know, that sort of helps.
And there's a little bit of a taper.
Yeah.
But, um, and I was training for powerlifting and the sport curl at the same time.
So do you, do you have a lot of traveling, like going from place, a bunch of meets or is it all?
Um, not too much.
Well, I just kind of picked the big ones.
There you go.
There you go.
I feel like you have that luxury where you can just be like, I just want to do the ones
I want.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. like you have that luxury where you can just be like big dog i just want to do the ones i want yeah yeah and at my age now like you can only do so many in a year before you're like i didn't do
any of the three lift meets here because i did the olympia in november and i was like yeah i need a
little bit of a break from the three lift stuff let's just go have fun at the arnold oh 100 yeah
it was all about having fun and just enjoying it. So, so this is my first Arnold
that I've been to. Yeah. Oh my goodness. Yeah. Super cool. Yeah. So as far as I was warned,
I'm trying to like get all the experience, but like everyone kept saying the bathrooms,
the bathrooms, the bathrooms. I didn't think, I didn't, I don't know. I felt like they were
all pretty good. I, I feel like they're better. year. Cleanup crew's doing a pretty good job, yeah.
Every time I've gone in, there's been a guy like ready to just swoop in and like clean up immediately.
So I feel like, I don't know if they saw the memes and were like, hey, we got to get on this.
He looked pretty disheveled though.
I will say that.
They look worn out.
A lot of times when you go in the girls' bathroom, there's brown butt prints on the seat where the bodybuilder girls have sat down.
And so you have to go through a few stalls so you can find one that's not colored.
Yeah, the toilets are tanned.
Yeah, well, I think they're brown for another reason.
Yeah, the bedrooms, yeah, different reasons.
But still, yeah.
What a problem to have.
So what do you have on the schedule?
You said, so tomorrow, trying to break the world record.
Trying to break the world record.
Yes.
And I had actually my whole strength company outfit to wear.
Oh.
I'll wear it tomorrow.
Okay, good.
I'm going to come by tomorrow.
Okay, good.
Oh.
Because I feel bad I missed today.
But then I actually have some videos scheduled to do with Mitchell Hooper, the world's strongest man.
Oh, my goodness.
Yeah.
I saw him up here.
I think he was up here on the SBD stage.
Yeah.
He just won it.
Oh, did he really?
Yeah.
He beat Half Thor and all those guys.
That's no easy feat.
No.
He's a big dude.
I just went and saw him.
He's big.
I don't even come up
to his boobs.
I'll say the other thing
of like coming here,
like being the first time
is like,
like I'm like,
oh, okay,
like I lift this much at home
like in my garage
and then like someone comes up
and I'm like immediately humbled
by like how strong
everybody is here.
Yeah.
And then here in Utah,
I'm like,
oh my goodness,
curling that much too.
It's insane.
Like we'll have the bar set up,
500 pounds.
Guy that looks,
yeah,
he's worked out before.
He's just in jeans.
Like what's on the bar?
500?
Well,
I haven't deadlifted in five months.
All right.
Does it for like 10 reps.
And you're like,
what?
Where,
where are we right now?
Yeah.
Well,
I mean,
you're talking about the elite of the elite.
Oh, 100%.
Yeah.
I mean, if you can, you know, rep out 225, 315 bench press.
I mean, you're in the top echelon, I feel like.
But when you walk into any gym, that's impressive.
That's true.
But then, like, some 16-year-old came up and just blew me out of the water, too.
Yeah.
You got to put things in perspective.
That is true.
I appreciate you saying that.
So, how long have you been practicing?
Have you, like you been doing the
strict curl for a long time? Did you get into it here a couple of years back or what?
It's my second competition.
It's your second one?
Yeah.
Wow.
Man.
So I did it one time.
Okay.
Did you beat your first one?
Huh?
Did you beat your first weight?
Yes.
Oh, nice. Okay.
The first one, I tried the world record on my first one just because I was like,
YOLO, why not? It was like global meet. I did like 110 on my first one just because I was like YOLO why not yeah yeah I did like 110 on my second
which brought the mat I broke the master's record at the time okay and so then I'm like well why not
just it we're just here for fun and I just barely got it up so this time I actually curled the whole
thing nice we're getting there so for strict curl it's head contact back contact butt contact right
your head doesn't have to head
doesn't have to be okay okay back butt and then your feet have to be uh within a foot of the
the wall the wall okay yeah and then uh like it can't be an even like it has to be a and then you
have like three judges like watching each one in between yeah they're using lifting cast for it
oh really yeah wow so just like power lifting Somebody was telling me it used to be part of powerlifting in the 70s.
It was like a fourth event.
Really?
Yeah.
Oh, I didn't realize that.
I didn't know that either.
Man.
But I mean, we always did curls in our training for powerlifting for deadlifts.
Yeah.
Because it keeps your bicep tendon strong.
Okay.
So you don't blow out those biceps.
We have a guy here who did that.
We know a guy.
We have a guy here who did that.
We have blown out his biceps.
At CT Fletcher's gym.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Because he went for one more.
What?
Did he go for one more?
Actually.
No, it was still his set, but he did finish the rep and then a tour, which was sad.
Okay.
Well, that's good.
And CT Fletcher did sign his bicep by the scar where he had the surgery.
Yeah.
So.
It was very nice.
It was closure for him.
Anytime I post bicep stuff, I'm saying
I'm bicepping for my deadlift.
Curls for the deadlift.
There you go.
It's real, folks.
If you curl for the deadlift, what do you do for the bench press?
Because I've got a pretty weak bench over here.
You've got to do the heavy holds.
Heavy holds?
That's been one of the key things, I think, is so you take out a weight that's like way
more than you can lift and you hold it, a static hold for 15 seconds.
Oh, really?
Okay.
That helps.
And so I just do it right after my warmups, right before my working sets, because it prepares
your CNS.
It primes everything, yeah.
It works your stabilizing muscles, which are those little tiny ones you don't get to work
a lot.
Yeah. And then mentally, everything feels light after that you don't get to work a lot. Yeah.
And then mentally, everything feels light after that.
Oh, well, that makes sense.
Yeah.
So we do it for bench and squat.
So if you're prepping for 315 on bench, and what's your static hold on?
It's like around 450.
Oh, okay.
I've worked up to that.
Yeah.
You shouldn't just try that right away.
I've been doing them for years.
So is there like a percentage to start like 120% of your max?
That's what I usually say.
Usually if you start at 120, but everyone's different.
Like some people can totally rock that and some people can't.
It just depends on your strength.
Yeah.
But usually if you do 120 over your one-rec mass, it's pretty easy.
Yeah.
15 seconds and then you can kind of go up from there.
But it's a good like just starting point when you get used to doing it.
Okay.
Yeah.
Any other secrets that I should know about so I can... I got of them oh yeah i'm sure you do i'm sure you do express
wisdom you'll write a book one day right it's really all about the overloading and variations
i feel like that's what made me as good as i've been it's like you know your bench press you flat
bench you get to a certain strength but then you've got to work each piece of the bench press
so we do t-shirt presses to work on your strength off your chest which is kind of like a hovering the bar yeah you know extra
long and then we do the pin presses for the top end but that works with leg drive
and what we call pinky squeeze you squeeze the squeeze your last two fingers
that's what I'm missing I'm not it in helps you finish oh okay yeah so it kind
of like a little extra tricep engagement at the very last
six inches. Man. Yeah. Nice. And we do a lot of slingshot and board presses. Okay. So. Man. I
love it. All with our strength company weights that are amazing. Of course. There you go. Yeah.
How many women have you ever seen bench 315 in your life? In person? Yeah, none. Wow. Same rare error.
Rare error. Starting to change now, though, for sure.
It's a goal that's attainable that people can shoot for women like it's getting there.
I mean, there's more and more women that are doing it online now.
They look like they might be using a little extra something. Yeah.
More than straight complaints. Like a couple extra scoops of protein.
Yeah, something like that.
Static holds.
Yeah.
So, like, I mean, but it's definitely, even, like, in USA Power,
the thing that's drug tested, you're starting to see, like, 275,
things like that.
Oh, wow, yeah.
Get up there.
So, I think Daniela Mello hit 303.
Oh, dang.
Okay. So, I mean, you're starting to hit 303. Oh, dang. Okay.
So, I mean, you're starting to see it come.
That is cool.
I think it's like anything, like with any sport.
Like once you see someone do it, then you start thinking, oh, that's not impossible.
Like the four-minute mile.
Yeah, 100%.
I did do that.
Actually, Donovan's brother was the first one to break that four-minute mile in college.
Are you kidding me?
No.
Whoa.
That's my husband.
So, Jim, this is a new podcast
that we're doing, powered by the
Shrek Club. And one of the things we talk
about is fly fishing. Fly fishing?
Yeah, and I fly fish a lot in the
Pisgah National Forest. Oh, that's right
by me. I know we just did a big subject
change. No, no.
But have you been
here all the time? Yeah, we
have a cabin.
Our whole backyard is the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina.
I don't, but my son does.
Oh, the older one?
The older one, yes.
Does he fly fish?
He's not fly fish.
No, he's a real fisherman.
He's a bass fisherman.
My kind of guy, yeah.
Oh, wow.
That's real fishing.
It's a very divided podcast.
Yeah, we live on Lake Norman, so the bass fishing is very good there.
Oh, my goodness.
And so he's done that a lot.
And then mountains fly fishing is obviously big with the Watauga River up there.
I usually go to Brevard, and then either do like the French Broad or the Davidson in Pisgah National Forest.
The Davidson?
I always see your stories, and I'm like, I was just there fishing.
It's so beautiful.
My long-term plan is to retire up there.
Well, now that there's bass up there, I'll just come up there and bass fish.
You can come.
You can come stay at our place and do your fly fishing.
Tomorrow you'll be a 12-time record holder.
Sorry?
Tomorrow you'll be a 12-time world record holder.
How?
One o'clock?
Yeah.
12 Central. 12 Central? Yeah. And I...
12 Central.
12 Central, yeah.
12 Central.
Yeah, 12 Central.
I will try to come over in the morning, though,
because I really feel bad I missed you today.
No, don't feel bad.
You're here now.
And we just handed you a microphone,
and you're pulling it off.
I know, I'm good with it.
Yeah, look, and natural, actually...
You probably want to go eat dinner and prepare.
You're great.
You're a great sport.
Well, I'm still waiting for the awards over there.
Oh, yeah.
Actually, we voted in Grand Town in... You're in? I'm the new sports person. Actually, we voted in Grand Town.
I'm the new sports person.
I'm okay with that.
She's okay. She's okay with that.
We got any parting questions?
I mean, we've been grilling her hardcore.
I'm happy to be here.
I usually do a lot of talking, but I have no voice.
You can't talk anymore.
We've actually just been one at a time making fun of you.
Yeah, so it's been a lot of fun.
It started with your mustache and then it just went back.
I get a lot
of flack for the mustache. But does your
wife like it? She loves it.
It's all that matters, right?
It's never going away.
There's a woman behind you that
when you leave, you have to go say
hello. I had no party questions,
but my only request
was like, my wife wants to
meet you very badly. That's the woman behind
you. Okay, alright, I can definitely do
that. No problem. Thanks for
joining us. Thank you, Smart.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow, too. You guys are a lot of fun.
Oh, that's very nice of you to say that.
We know it's not true, but it's very nice of you.
No, it is true.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Alright, I got some secrets nice. No, it is true. Thank you. Thank you. All right.
I got some secrets now.
Pinky squeezes.
Yeah, I know.
Were you taking notes over here, like in the corner?
Dude, I'm pitching 315 this week with that.
Okay.
Oh, perfect.
Loved it.
Nailed it.
Wow.
Bye.
Dude, well, that worked out pretty nicely.
We're just ad-libbing over here it's like you
playing that huh sometimes it's just about who you know that's what they say yeah i kind of feel
like i missed the pre-show yeah no it was actually it was really so that's one that's usually well
last time we had her on the pre-show. So that's why we had met her before.
Yeah, nice.
Yeah.
But no, she was saying that she got the curl.
Oh, she did.
But well, one of the judges said her butt came off.
And she's like, I don't think it did.
It's highly debated.
So...
Butt back head, that's it.
And that was for the world record.
Hey, we're going to bring in a guest ad lib right now because
Big Eddie
come on in.
Big Eddie.
We're bringing
in Big Eddie to the
OK podcast.
Look at that chain.
Look at that chain.
How's it going? The deadlift platform
we're sitting on, Big Eddie actually
built.
And that kind of helped.
You helped out a little bit.
Don't tell yourself short.
Yeah, I try not to.
It's on, right?
Up is on.
Yeah, you're good, man.
So we're both back-to-back-to-back champions.
Yes.
Yes, back-to-back-to-back.
And what do you think?
What that means for the viewers is I met Eddie at my first Arnold.
At my first Arnold, too.
Yeah, exactly.
So how are you feeling?
You know, I'm feeling good.
You know, we're on day three, and I just spent like four and a half hours
at the Amateur Strongman Show helping out.
Yeah, as one does.
And it was a lot of fun.
It's pretty cool seeing him move all that weight and realizing some of these
guys are competing to be the next pro.
Yeah.
And you get to watch them, struggle and like grunt and like,
like almost pass out.
And you're like,
wow,
that's pretty sweet.
I don't feel like that's what you come for though.
I feel like you come to just like make it better.
You're like,
I don't know what I'm going to improve.
I do.
It's not just the strength.
Oh,
it's mass.
And it's a strong, strong It's Strongman, Obsidian.
I try to help out with that.
Who did you get all the Gorilla Tape for?
Oh, that was for the Strongman.
Oh, that was for the Strongman.
That was for the amateur Strongman.
Well, we were going to get more supplies for the deck.
Yeah.
And I go by to check on them.
Is that what we're calling this?
A deck?
Yeah.
You know, our patio.
And I was like, yeah, I got to go to Home Depot. And they was like, yeah, I got to go to Home Depot.
And they're like, oh, we got to go to Home Depot.
I'm like, well, what do you want?
I'll just get it for you.
You know, why not?
Yeah, why not?
He's just getting all the reward points.
Which is great, because then when we need another roll of tape, we knew where to go.
I just walked over and said, I need another roll of tape.
Yeah.
And they're like, okay.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
You have to hold the mic up and say, okay.
There you go.
Yeah, that was good.
You're a natural.
Trey, any questions for Big Eddie?
Big Eddie, so how long have you had that chain for?
Three.
No, I've had this chain since like 2015.
I love the medallion on it though.
I was Mr. T for Halloween.
I don't know how well that went over.
But I loved it and I was like, I need chains.
Gold chains. I'm just going to Home Depot.
That's the other thing.
Look at that.
So then at the Arnold, I was like, I need to embellish
these chains some more.
What's the most expensive thing I can buy?
It was when i bought my set
of strength go plates there you go you know i had shaved up like three months in advance i knew i
was getting two hundos 345s the 25s the 10s all that stuff and i was ready to roll and uh i was
like you know what let's throw these on the chains let's grab. It's looking sharp, man. The best trades in America that are made in America are.
You're part of the chain gang.
Oh, yeah. Oh, man.
Alright. Well, any other questions?
Any other questions? Are you ready for tomorrow?
Yeah, but I'm going to sleep
in tomorrow. Yeah.
What time does it kick off tomorrow? 10 o'clock.
Oh, so they back it up on Sundays?
No, 9 a.m. VIP.
So everybody can go to church.
I've got one last question for you.
Yeah, go ahead.
So as a victim, such as myself,
you seem like a big, strong man.
What's your best advice for becoming not a victim,
getting some weight?
Well, consistency in eating is big.
Consistency, just eat.
You've got to eat.
You've got to eat a lot.
Okay, what do you like to eat for that? Milk. Yeah milk's a big one you gotta have your milk it's huge carnivore you know
yeah meat you gotta have your protein lots of eggs lots of meat you know and then like popcorn
for me you know i'm corn fed i'm from nebraska like corn on the cob popcorn cream corn i'm writing this down i'm writing this down corn oil
like i mean the more corn you can get the better so grits so grits grits definitely gotta have
grits huge grits fan grits are a cheat code yeah grits are just fantastic you can make your grits
with heavy cream oh yeah instead of water yeah And then you can hide cheese in it.
Oh, yeah.
Speaking your language.
You're getting excited about Waffle House tonight.
That's where we're going.
Because I'm getting grits with sausage in it.
That and just consistency.
You know, working some conjugate,
get some volume in there with your heavy stuff.
You'll grow. You'll grow.
Everything's about numbers.
Tanner was the first unofficial Get some volume in there with your heavy stuff. You'll grow. You'll grow. Everything's about numbers. Yeah.
And Tanner was the first unofficial guest.
Jen Thompson was the second unofficial guest about five minutes ago.
And you're the third unofficial.
And, you know, bronze is a good medal to take home.
Hey, you're on the podium, baby.
Congratulations.
With that podium, I'm very proud of you.
Yeah.
If Jordy doesn't make a meme with that podium, then how could he not?
Yeah, I mean, fire.
When you're third place to Jen Thompson.
That's true.
Not bad.
I'm going to tell my mom about that tomorrow night.
She's got no idea what I mean, but she'll still be impressed.
Your mom will be proud.
She will be very proud.
All right, go get Tanner and Tommy time of recording.
That sounds good.
All right, later.
All right, so I think here's what we should do.
We should talk about general thoughts
because you two thoughts are going to be different
than Jeff's thoughts being a veteran
versus my thoughts, you know, looking at how we're doing.
And then we'll just play two more sets of hot seats.
Okay.
So I've left, he's left, you you'll leave and then you'll leave and so
we'll hopefully get two more people up here all right talk about it so let's start with jordy
okay like the arnold you were invited last year you had a work obligation like but i hyped it up
last year she had a little bit more awareness than he had. Right. Like, what is your overall thoughts this far in?
Well, I've never seen so many jacked people in one place in my life.
Besides my house.
Big, strong people walking up.
Oh, yeah.
People who just rip 315 for a deadlift off the ground that you never would think could do that.
But this is different.
This is the Arnold.
People are built different here.
They drank some Jocko Go beforehand and crushed it crushed it right and so that was my first thought there's
a lot of strong people here it's weird and then this that i guess that's my main thought i'll go
with that just stronger than normal even like they don't even look strong they don't they don't
no i remember the first day like they pulled up and some guy just cold just pulled 600 pounds on a deadlift.
It was in.
He looked corn-fed, though.
Yeah, dude, he did look corn-fed.
He looks corn-fed.
What was it this morning?
You, like, turned around.
Semper Fi.
Semper Fi.
Semper Fi, brother.
Nice shirt.
We're all Marines.
Were you a Marine?
My son was.
Nice.
Semper Fi.
Thanks for your service, brother.
Nice.
Semper Fi, man.
All right. Thank you. Thanks. Yeah, you're okay. Yeah, you're okay. You're good. Semper Fi. Thanks for your service, brother. Nice. Semper Fi, man. All right.
Thank you.
Thanks.
Yeah, you're welcome.
Yeah, you're welcome.
Congrats.
The OK Podcast.
What's your name?
Where are you from?
Rick Yoder.
Rick Yoder, Goshen, Indiana.
All right.
What did your son do?
My son was a Marine with the 10th Battalion.
He was Fire Command.
Oh, artillery?
Yeah.
We're all artillery.
There's four of us.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I said talk louder, right?
Wait, did you hear anything?
What was that?
No, I said, thanks, man.
So, our podcast is called The OK Podcast.
I'm losing my voice, but can you give a revision of how we like to say it?
OK.
Can you say something like that for your son?
Like, OK.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You sound like a gunny. Yeah. Thanks for stopping by, brother. Yeah. Yeah. He sounded like a gunny.
Yeah.
Thanks for stopping by, brother.
Yeah, we'll see you.
You guys got like a card or something?
What were we talking about?
Sorry, I see a Semper Fi shirt.
No, we were talking about...
You talking about the guy
who's just cold.
No, this morning,
we're like 135s on the bar to start.
Yeah.
Trey turns around,
does something,
turns back around,
600s on the bar.
Some dude's just ripping it
off the floor.
Just first thing in the morning. And then we put on 680. dude just ripping it off the floor just first thing in
the morning they put on 680 he rips that off the floor you're just like he's in jeans he's on two
deadlifts yeah that is that is crazy just the amount of strong people here all right so trey
off the cuff overall thoughts i told you you have to come just validated it you told me it was an
experience right man it is an experience i which I 100% agree with and I see now.
I did not realize the scale of this is insane.
One, I knew Arnold was going to be here.
It's just like the names, the faces, the people who just randomly pop in, i.e.
Jen Thompson, just showing up.
You just interviewed her.
Yes.
I'm like, oh.
So everyone at the Arnold, if they have a little bit, like Jen Thompson's very famous.
Yeah.
They have a little bit of variety.
They're so ready for a mic to be stuffed in their face.
Oh, yeah.
Because that's what they came here for.
And I think that's what, like, so Jen Thompson, did you guys talk about how she was supposed
to come at five today?
Did you talk about Jen, how she was supposed to come earlier?
Yeah, she was supposed to come. yeah it's just come yeah she's
waiting for a medal yeah she came and then we're podcasting and we're like hey sit down here's a
mic and she's like what's up a natural dude natural amazing yeah so yeah the scale of it
is just insane like the people here the faces here the companies here unreal so all right
yeah it might be it's still blown away by just the randomly strong people that just
should roll up out of nowhere totally cold pull 600 pounds um dude the t-shirts were a huge hit
really we're all about the t-shirts that is true like and i think i think
by bullying them into buying the t-shirts but But I mean, I think in general, people just were all about the t-shirts.
It seems like another like super just crowded year feels like things are kind of maybe back.
Yeah.
I think it's back.
I mean, I think third year, I would say what I've been like, we've gotten better.
Like we come here. I'll just talk business now. Yeah. I mainly come the, like we've gotten better. Like we come here,
I'll just talk business now.
I mainly come here to get leads for the future.
We don't come here to sell a bunch of stuff.
Although you've sold all my t-shirts,
but we come here to get leads and we've gotten better at realizing that if you
give someone anything,
a sticker,
a key chain,
a t-shirt that has a hole in it,
you can get their mother's social security oh dude i'm in
they'll give you anything people were like hey what do i get if i deadlift i'm like i'll give
you a sticker yeah and they're like seriously i'm like yeah man it's the best day of my life
we pull 600 but i will say that i think this year has been more populated with attendees
in the past year i feel like we've had more big names like in the booth oh yeah doing
stuff ct this morning but but well i was saying last i mean the deadlift event specifically oh
okay i got you i got you yeah yeah yeah but in the other events like we had ct we had um
i i botched her name uh lindsey lindsey diaz not davis follow on instagram taj yeah i've been Diaz. Not Davis. Lindsey Diaz. Follow her on Instagram. Taj. Been coming for three years.
So yeah, I feel like it's good.
Julius Maddox
had an impromptu meet and greet.
Oh yeah. Yeah, that was great.
I was looking for Big Connor, but
I don't see him.
So
that's okay. We'll find him.
So you leave tomorrow morning. Minyana. Yeah. First thing, man. We'll find him. So you leave tomorrow morning.
Mañana.
Yeah.
First thing, man.
You leave tomorrow afternoon.
Yes, sir.
You leave Monday.
Monday.
Monday evening.
The officers will carry the load, bringing out the flag, the weight of command.
It's heavy.
That's why we wear it on our collar so one thing that is amazing
and i guess you'll both kind of miss it but is so you saw thursday how unset up it was yeah
and then it all came together oh very quickly what's more impressive is how fast everyone
everyone tears down to get out of here it It's insane. It did seem like organized chaos.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like on Thursday, for sure.
Yeah.
Even when I got here Thursday, it felt like it's like in general, like the carpet.
Like I was like, oh, it was way more set up last year at this point.
Like the security was posted outside and we're like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Where's your badge?
Even like Thursday night.
Well, Thursday night or like we just rolled in like no problem. So I was like, oh, what's your badge? Even like Thursday night. Well, Thursday night, we just rolled in like no problem.
So I was like, ooh, what's going on?
But it all came together.
What's a place where we're pushing chow in the evenings?
The Eagle.
Oh, my goodness, dude.
Amazing.
Hey, potential sponsor.
Can you give them a potential sponsor?
Yeah, potential sponsor, The Eagle.
Best fried chicken on this street.
Actually, not to cut off your ad, but Jordy,
you went and tell him about the waiter that you let in.
And then did he give you coupons?
He was supposed to.
We got coupons.
He told us to come in and he'll take some stuff.
Tonight he's working?
Yes.
Okay, cool.
Yes.
So I guess we're going back to the-
You can't afford not to.
That's true.
You gotta get one.
Trinity last night gave us some coupons.
Oh, nice.
Yeah, so shout out to Trinity.
So we're gonna eat for free tonight.
Yeah.
So how did it go?
It was good.
So we went out to the Eagle last night,
had a great Southern comfort food style dinner.
What were we drinking?
Bourbon punch.
Bourbon punch.
Sorry, it was not dinner.
It was supper if it's a Southern.
Because we're from the South.
Exactly.
And our waiter looked like a young guy.
He wanted to come check out the Arnold. We told him
what it was all about. He said he wasn't working
in the morning. We said, come on by.
We'll give you a badge. Well, next thing you know,
Grant's like, Jordy,
go meet the waiter outside.
And I was like, wait, did he come?
Yeah.
And I looked around for like 10 minutes and finally
Who are you looking for? Kaylee.
You gave him a plate of food?
Yeah.
He came up.
He ended up coming up.
So he came, checked out the booth, had a good time, saw some crazy deadlifts, and I think
we'll see him tonight.
Doc, make a memory.
So the guy.
Yeah.
So how did you find him, though?
Because I just said, go find this guy.
If you don't find him by 3 o'clock, come back.
It's over.
Yeah.
So there was a time limit.
I just walked up and down between the bodybuilders and the strong men and the bikini and the bikini competitors just flooding around
everybody and just all by himself under a single light stood our waiter and i was like and we
locked eyes and we just slow motion ran towards each other. That's what we call a meet cute. It was a meet cute.
Yeah.
No, I dropped the badge.
And he goes, you dropped it.
And we both pick it up.
And you dropped this.
And our hands touch.
Nice.
And we both look up.
Oh, my gosh.
And we go, it's you.
You're the waiter.
You're the waiter.
You don't even know his name.
It's just the waiter.
Yeah.
He's just the waiter.
He's just the waiter.
So we got two more hot seats.
We're going to hot seat you, Trey, and I want you to go grab Zach Copley in the blue shirt.
Okay.
Gotcha, man.
All right.
Okay.
So, sometimes...
Okay.
Yeah.
He gets it.
Well, we'll let you do that in a second, okay?
You got to earn your right to...
All right.
Hold it up real close to you.
I'm not supposed to do that.
No, like, keep it, like, literally touching your mustache.
Literally, like, on your chin.
As two guys with mustaches, that's where you need it.
That's a good question.
Mustache rule.
So this is Big Zach.
Hey.
And did you sign up for the Massanomics Discord?
I did.
So he's actually Big Zach now.
Nice.
Officially Big Zach.
Congratulations.
That's a big deal.
Keep it close.
Keep it close.
I know you're big.
Yeah.
All right.
So we're just hot seating each of us.
Got it.
I hot seated for Jen Thompson.
I win.
True.
Jeff hot seated for Big Eddie Close Second.
And so you got hot seated for three.
But we're curious your thoughts.
Why are you here?
We want to know about Sam Sulik and your son.
Right.
Where are you from?
And like, what do you think of this nonsense yeah so i'm
i'm i'm from berkeley california i will forgive you for that so uh the first thing i did well
not the first thing but the first thing i did today is trade in my uh people's republic of
berkeley hat for a usa i'm gonna go ahead and turn this around for the oh there we go that's
much better yeah it made your upgrade.
Yeah, it's a pretty big upgrade for me.
I also got a drink spotter because I need beverage safety.
Safety first, exactly.
I don't know.
I'm just curious about this whole industry.
And so when Grant, you know, invited me to come, I was like, well, i thought about it for a minute my son's already into weightlifting and i figured well this is kind of a dad and lad opportunity and uh you know i lift weights too so i'm one of grant's uh students so uh trainees sorry trainees the correct word i guess
and uh student of the iron and uh yeah so uh yeah, no, I've been to a lot of conferences, but this is by far the craziest one.
Like this makes computer conferences because I'm a software engineer by trade.
We couldn't tell.
This is, yeah.
This one is just nuts.
Like it took me a half hour to get from the front door to the booth this morning.
Just like fighting, like swan swimming through the crowd to get from the front door to the booth this morning just like fighting like
swan swimming through the crowd to get here love it yeah it's really interesting you want to know
and this will really pique jordy's interest because you know this younger generation loves
sam sula yes and so tell me about your son's obsession and was he successful with that
so i don't know exactly what the deal is with the teenagers and sam sulik but uh my i think you know
my son he's into power lifting he's 15 he's really big and people at the gym his gym at 24 hour
fitness where he works out uh they said hey you kind of look like sam sulik and since then that's
a little bit he kind of yeah he's got like the little and he's got the hair a little bit nose
maybe and so he's he's like kind of taking that to heart and he's gonna it's like sort of his idol
kind of like i mean i know arnold is probably a lot of that's what people said to me. Yeah. You looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was 18.
Right.
You obviously do.
Yeah.
With a mustache.
And yeah.
And so...
Two references.
Two guys.
So, but yeah.
So he stood in line.
I stood with him for an hour and then I had to leave because there's beer here.
Yeah.
So I had to come over to the Strength Co. booth and help out.
Help out.
And, you know, he's been standing there
i don't know like it was three hours at least three hours before he got got to meet sam so
like he did he got the photo and strength t-shirt he was but unfortunately wait no it's it's it's
it's not as good as it could have been but he did get his Strength Co badge that you provided signed by Tom Selleck.
So it's going to be a family relic.
Yeah, it's going to be a family relic.
It's going to be one of the, you know, like the big thing.
Oh, my God.
Utility kill.
So, Zach, how would you describe this man to the listeners?
I'm going to say this is a dedicated high-road Scotsman-style powerlifter.
Describe him.
Oh, okay.
So he's got a leather vest, a utility kilt.
It's a utility kilt, right? Utility kilt. Yeah. It's got pockets. A kilt. A utility kilt. It's a utility kilt, right?
It's a utility kilt.
Yeah.
It's got pockets.
His boots look like they're from the 1800s. The boots are obviously relics that he bought on eBay.
What's in his hand?
And he's got a chalice of delicious, I think probably mean.
Is that mean?
If I'm not mistaken, I'm just guessing.
But it's...
You're on defense of that. Okay, it's probably just a power...
It's pre-workout.
Everybody's got pre-workout.
It's just Jaco Go.
It's Jaco Go.
That's what it is.
Yeah.
But no, it's very nice Scotsman-like outfit.
Thanks for stopping by.
You should scan that...
You should scan that QR code stand that qr code and then
you can listen to the podcast and hear about it the one on the right side of the guy right there
yeah um well zach yeah we're gonna hop seat you out of here okay well thanks i love being on the
okay podcast okay all right okay deeper a little okay deeper okay from big tray big exact big shout out so Connor I'm gonna MC Hold on. MC Connor. MC Connor. Yeah. That's right. Gino Jr. Yeah. Numbers matter.
First guest was Tanner.
Second guest was Jim Thompson.
Third guest was Eddie.
Fourth guest was Big Zach.
You coming at number five.
I'm like the encore.
So like you're technically not on Mount Rushmore.
They all opened for me.
But they're ever going to put another face up there. What's behind Mount Rushmore. They all opened for me. But they're ever going to put another...
Face up there?
Well, what's behind Mount Rushmore?
Probably a fifth face.
Yeah, probably a strength of 45.
That's right.
But we're going to talk about specifically your left arm today.
Oh, yeah.
Is it still sorry?
You got to go back.
Remember, we just picked up 200 new followers today.
Sure.
People don't know what's up.
It's like Stanley with Marvel Comics.
It's somebody's first comic.
Yeah.
So you've got to give them a backstory.
Take it from there.
First show it to the camera and then just take it away.
Okay.
Show the arm.
Should I like take it?
That's good.
Oh, beautiful.
So probably what pops is that beautiful signature and autograph.
But just north of that, there's a nice little scar.
So going back in September, I was helping Grant with the job, which didn't even feel like a job.
He invited me. He goes, hey, man, I know you got work. It's a Monday.
When you love what you do, you love it.
Yeah, I'd say it's a constant vacation for me.
And he goes, can you come up work a little early? Meet me in Long Beach.
We're going to C.T. Fletcher's gym in Long Beach and we're going to Iron Addicts
and we're going to swap some plates for him. I was like, I'm in. So we get there and it's kind
of hot day. And the first task is just to load and unload. We take all his old rusty plates out
and put all these beautiful Stranco plates in. So it's just like, I don't know how much weight
we moved that day. It was just a caravan of heavy loaded 4 000 pounds we brought just farmer
carrying back and forth without any rest so we're there we're at iron addicts and grants a big
content guy as you can tell right now um and he goes hey man let's get a lift in we'll film it
jordy's here let's get a lift in and i'm like i just wanted to go i just want to go get a beer
with jordy but okay because i worked out and, but okay. Because I worked out.
And here's my thing.
Like, I worked out that morning.
I deadlifted heavy the previous Friday, and I was only doing it once a week.
I was like, probably shouldn't deadlift.
I'll deadlift.
It's still your set.
It's still my set, as CT would say.
If you were to short form it.
Yeah.
Short form it.
I'm not going to.
Yeah, this is a family-friendly podcast. I'm not going to say the whole thing.
You can look it up if you're interested.
And so we started pulling singles and grips failing a little bit.
I think I pulled like 495.
And I'm like, man, I'm tired from moving those blades and tired from my workout in the morning.
Normally, I would just go, okay, let me jump to straps.
Let me go from hook to straps.
Okay.
I forgot.
Sorry.
This is, yeah, this is. Sorry. I was so into the story. I was a long-time listener, first caller. Okay. I forgot. Sorry.
Sorry.
I was so into the story.
I was a long-time listener, first caller.
Yeah.
First time, long time.
First time, long time.
And I'm like, okay, I'll switch the straps.
It's not my gym.
I look around.
It's a cool gym, but it's nowhere near as organized as the Strenko.
And couldn't find any straps.
And so I go, screw it. I'll go alternate or switch grip,
which I don't do all the time, which I do very rarely.
And I lock out 515 and my bicep detached from my bone.
Ouch.
And it's a pop-a-pop, which I've never experienced before.
I've never had a lifting-related injury.
I've had tweaks that got banged up and things like that,
but I've never had.
And I'm proud to say every single person I've ever coached
has never had a weight i'm proud to say every single person i've ever coached
has never had a weightlifting injury yeah um and putting myself in that position i would have i
like to say like i did like three stupid decisions that led to that so right at lockout it popped you
know and i didn't realize fast forward and i said i was discouraged and i go you know what i knew i
would be coming to arnold at cct it's been five months since surgery. Went and told him the story. I was like, this happened
in your gym. I'm not pressing charges. And I'm just really excited that you're here and I would
love you to sign my scar. And so, uh, there we go. I got CTS and really, I guess the next step
would be to find a tattoo artist and just and just get it permanent. Outstanding.
So I think it's C.T. Fletcher, but I think he abbreviated it still your set.
Yeah.
You can't afford not to have that tattoo.
So if anybody knows, this is live.
Yeah.
Well, no, it's not live.
It's live Friday.
It's live Friday.
Okay.
We'll find a tattoo artist.
I'll find something here.
Something cheap and quick.
You got 20 bucks? I have tons of money. So you buy a t-shirt, give me 20. I'll do something here. Something cheap and quick. You got 20 bucks?
I have tons of money.
So you buy a t-shirt, give me 20.
I'll do it for you. There's an all-mix fanny pack.
It's the cash register of the day for the strength.
It's true, actually.
So good thing it's not live so I don't get mugged in five minutes.
True.
Then your MC skills.
Where'd you learn that, dude?
There's no MC skills.
I'm telling you, man.
Just desperation.
Let me say this.
So, Connor on the microphone is outstanding.
Natural.
Very witty.
Very quick with his little, like, I don't know, inserts to get the crowd pumped up,
to get them bought in, to get them to get behind a lifter.
He's blushing.
You know.
I'm sorry.
He's got his little coachy cues here and there.
Blusher.
That was more regular. He is outstanding on the microphone. you know, he's got his little coachy cues here and there. Blusher? Like, he's outstanding
on the microphones.
I'm saying,
Gino,
if you're watching the podcast,
like,
watch out.
Oh,
yeah.
Gino Powlett,
he's great.
He's fantastic.
I learned by watching him.
You just got to
start dressing like him
and I think you got the job.
That's the hard part.
Yeah.
He is missing the pirates,
too.
Yeah.
He's an American pirate.
Yeah.
American Jack Sparrow. That guy loves America. I believe it. Gino loves America. the hard part yeah he is missing the pirates yeah he's an american pirate yeah american jack
sparrow loves america i believe you know loves america all right we're on the spectrum compared
to you to see that stuff that was gonna tell my story i love the listeners so steve bake misses
900 today yeah which everyone said it would hit whatever stuff happens he misses it and it's kind
of like you know the air's running out of the
balloon and everyone's like what's next so i say to gino because everything else i said is you know
he says in the microphone yeah it's times like this i just look up at the flat and say god bless
america i think he's gonna say the same thing in the microphone. And he lowers the mic, which I can't do because I need to talk into it.
And he goes, no place I'd rather be, brother.
And I was like, oh, wow.
All right.
Guy's a patriot.
That's cool.
Great get up, though.
Like I said, love the get up.
Yeah, the boots.
Outstanding boots.
I don't know where you get those boots.
I was lucky.
I was the backup quarterback because Grant lost his voice.
He's actually sounding a lot better right now.
It's kind of like a blood-soaked Brady opportunity.
It is.
It is.
No one knew what I had until, you know, Brady lost his voice or whatever.
I was going to go with more like a Brady Jimmy G, but, you know.
Oh, I appreciate that.
I appreciate that.
Big Boston guy.
Well, Connor, we're going to hot seat you out of here.
Sounds good.
We're going to wrap this podcast up.
But before we leave, can you give us your best okay?
Okay.
Oh, wow.
Do you want to try it one more time?
Yeah, you want to be better?
Okay.
Oh, okay.
I'm just trying to be natural.
Well, thanks for having me on, everyone.
Yeah, man.
Yeah, yeah.
All right.
This is probably the shortest episode we've had yet, but we all want to go eat dinner.
We've got to sell some shirts, too.
Yeah.
I'm going to get over to Trey.
