Starting point is 00:00:00 Ernest Angel loves me. Ernest Angel loves me. Don. In your head. Two. One, come in when you want to. Crank the headphones up. Crank it up.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Crank it up because all right. Welcome back. Ooh. My mic's cranked up. All right. Welcome back to episode one to one of the OK podcast, the OK podcast. The OK podcast. The OK.
Starting point is 00:00:43 podcast powered by the Strength Co. I am your host, Grant Broji. And we are recording live from all over the world, really. I am in the beautiful city of Newport, Rhode Island. Jeff is in the greater Salt Lake
Starting point is 00:00:59 City area of Montgomery. And if you really just think about Joseph Smith, getting kicked out of New York, getting to Utah, then getting to the Mormon Italian in San Diego, there's actually no way that he didn't stop and spend time in Montgomery.
Starting point is 00:01:16 He must have stopped in Montgomery, Alabama. So Jeff is in the greater Montgomery-A-Alabama area. Mr. Trey Gottlitch, I'm going to go on a limb here and say that he's home because I see that. What is that? Is that old brother, we're out there poster in the background? Is that what that is? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:35 Oh, you talk to the, yeah. Yeah, the guy. Is that George Washington crossing the Delaware? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Well, if you're not watching online, he's coming to us from Frisco, Texas, greater Frisco area, DFW for you non-Texan types. But I'm referencing a photo behind his head. And if you don't see it right now, it's because you're not watching it on YouTube, which means you're an idiot. You're an idiot. Jeff's got a Nacho battery, Fifth Battalion, 14th Marines flag. Their motto is, we always get you paid. And so that's, he also has some kind of soccer championship flag.
Starting point is 00:02:15 I'm going to imagine probably some league where the champions played the premier team and then came to the MLS and then after the Olympics played the World Cup. And it makes sense, really. You guys should understand this. There's like 17,000 leagues. It's pretty straightforward. All the Americans pull for other countries. It makes a ton of sense. But he's got that.
Starting point is 00:02:33 I got something on the wall right here that is new to this week's episode. And no, it's not crooked. That's called a wide lens. That is a painting of a wagon wheel that hung in Hancock Hill in Worcester, Massachusetts when I was a child in my grandfather's house. And he would always like to clean out, rock me, mama, like that way different. They were not singing. They were not singing wagon wheel in Worcester Mass.
Starting point is 00:03:00 But he would always tell us when you were a kid, if you looked at it, that it was painted by John Ford. But the way John Ford, I think it's John. I know the last name's right, because you'll get a. a second. He flipped his name around. So it's, it's DROF, DROF. So for me, as a dyslexic homeschooled child, I just always saw Ford. And I'd never, I've never gotten the joke, but some people find that piece of information interesting. Anyway, we're getting into topics, and I'm not even done with the preamble. This episode is brought to you by BW Tax. BW. Tax, great guy better at taxes. It's never too early to start next year's taxes.
Starting point is 00:03:37 We've always said that. We've never not said that. And as you age, you realize this really couldn't and nothing could be further from the truth every year you spend taking a trip around the sun your taxes get more complicated so why not get ahead of that and get bw tax and i know we got a lot of new listeners that we'll address here shortly and you're enjoying the banter and you think the whole thing's a joke bw tax is a real guy he's in greenville south carolina and let me tell you 04s 05's doing your crossfits and uh all your different stuff it might be time you got a CPA okay you probably got a, you know, a parent that's passed away. Maybe you're buying a second house. Maybe you're don't know where you're PCS in yet. And BW can tell me, you know, where it's tax-free for
Starting point is 00:04:21 military. So you don't got to be military though. You can be anybody kick, hit up BW. Texas. This episode is also brought to you by green grid iron, gridiron green, uh, buy a visor, no visor. Tray's got his U.S. Border Patrol helmet. He's, he's been, he's been locking it down in Texas. Tray has 10 of those just treat by him. As soon as they get back and stop. He just tries another one. All about lethality. That's the name. It's Trace Lethality, Gotlich.
Starting point is 00:04:48 That's what we call them. No open-diggers got a helmet. Click the link in the show notes. This show is also brought to you by the Toledo Mudhins. They don't give us any money, but we do have hats. Trey, I couldn't find mine either. I'm sorry. It's in the car.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Yeah, mine's in the car to. I had more my shirt. Yeah, Toledo. Oh, look at that. Toledo mudhins. Oh, check up. My mother was here. listening to the podcast playing with my daughter.
Starting point is 00:05:14 And she's going through. Yeah. That sounds weird. Yeah. I think I know. She said, what's this? What are the Toledo mudhins? And I said, Mom.
Starting point is 00:05:29 And because Isabella has a doll that's Madonna, their mascot. And it's, you know, she's got a, I don't know if the tails braided or the head. I can't remember. Anyway, episode. one, two, one. We're excited to be here. We've got lots to talk about tons. We want to talk about the character of the podcast versus the strategy of the podcast versus what, Jeff? The nature. The nature of the podcast. What's a true podcast? Is this a cool thing? And what's the absolute podcasting and like true podcasting and how they... Sometimes it's just theory. Right. It's just theory,
Starting point is 00:06:04 but then there's feelings, okay? And the feelings make it real. And remember, um, the opponent always has a vote. And you, listeners, friends and listeners, have votes. Real quick, before I kick it over to three for the staff brief. I want to say, got a lot of new listeners on the pod. I got a couple emails this week. Yeah, I got a couple emails this week.
Starting point is 00:06:24 We're up to five people that listen. That includes my mom and the three of us. So, yeah, got a few even know. Got a couple emails this week. And some folks, you know, bumming around the Navy War College. I've gotten it a couple
Starting point is 00:06:40 times this week. Do you have a podcast? And I, you know, I always kind of shy away. You know, my buddy's kind of bashful. And I say, oh, yeah, you wouldn't like it. It's really, it's just silly. And then I'll see you next. I'll see in the next day. Dude, the staff brief
Starting point is 00:06:56 is my favorite part. And, you know, that's my heart. Music and Trays years. Yeah. No. Podcasting. So we want to keep the new listeners happy. We want to keep the old listeners
Starting point is 00:07:10 happy. If you're a new listener and you're just tuning in, we sought out to talk about lifting, but now we just talk about life. But we do talk a little bit of lifting. I think Trace probably got a big lifting update. I'll have to check the website. Oh, the price of Bitcoin is $64,5006.006. I knew I was forgetting something. That's why I was dragging on it. $64,5,000. Today's date is August the 5th in the year of our Lord, 2026. And with that, I have no hung ordinance remaining. I will turn it over to the three. Hey, thank you. Appreciate that. Okay. All right. I'm just logging into teams here real quick. Okay, seeing only about half of you updated your slides. That's great. I'm sure you'll just brief to the changes.
Starting point is 00:07:52 You'll just brief to those changes. You know, you'll, you're squared away. You have your stuff, right? You're just going to brief to those changes. That's great. That's great. You know, we only had this brief every week, same time, every week, and people still don't update their slides. That's great. That's great. Hey, brother, it's trash five. Could you just give me every? commodity head that didn't update the slides just shoot it to me in an email and uh if you're a commodity head and you didn't do it which is going to be apparent during the brief come to my office after the brief thanks brother okay okay uh yeah standby stand by stand by for uh rounds down range with that
Starting point is 00:08:25 Stand by. Stand by. Okay. With that, let's take it over to the one. Okay, yep, this slide has not been updated since 2023. But okay, I'm sure you'll brief to the numbers. Just go ahead, please. Yeah. Hey, good morning, sir. Good morning, staff, commanders, Sajum major. I actually did update my slide, but I didn't know that I had to do it on the teams or whatever we're working with. So I had it downloaded on my computer. Sir, here's a read ahead. for you that you can look over as I brief. First of all, we're going to start with the G1 report card. It looks like the numbers are bumping, as we say. I've been an administrator for about
Starting point is 00:09:07 eight days now, but I've learned to say that the numbers are bumping indeed. We have, we're reaching all of our re-enlistment goals, which should not be in my area, but I'm briefing it anyway because for some reason I keep getting asked about it. And yeah, pretty much everything is good. I've been told that it's better to be seen and not heard. So I'm going to keep it brief. I did have a lobster bake last week. And I just got to say, you know, Cajun Sajum Major, I don't even think you would know how to eat a lobster correctly. But outside of that, nothing further for the group. Thank you, gentlemen. Okay. Okay. Dad. You better rest. Rest. Odega, a Lopter is just a big old. That's how that is. That's how that is.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Sam, Major, you couldn't be further from the truth, quite honestly, especially New England lobsters. They got claws. They're not those liberal West Coast lobsters that are changing the agenda by cutting the claws off. We got the real thing out here. And when you heat them up, they're hotter than the Boston Red Sox. And they're the best thing you could eat. Another other than the group. Hey, interesting brief from the edge.
Starting point is 00:10:17 Okay. Thank you. And yet, yeah, we do, we do save our slides. two teams. We do not have access to your specific laptops desktop. Just so for future reference, you get that updated. If you need, if you got questions, get with the commo. Any technology questions on anything whatsoever. If your printer is out of ink, the commo, he definitely went to comm school to do that. So hit him up. I know you're a new lieutenant still learning the ropes. The problem is, sir, is that the internet's always out in the office.
Starting point is 00:10:52 so that's why we have been able to pay a lot of the Marines. Oh, yeah, that's going to be a follow-up question I had. Is everyone, is everyone getting paid in the battalion? Do we know that? Yes, yeah. And if they're not, we'll just get them on the back end. Oh, oh, okay, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:06 I haven't got paid since about 2008. I just do it for the love of the game, baby. That's all I do. Okay, go tell you. Yes, outside of your major, that's because all the leave you give away, we deduct it from your pay. I understand. You've been giving out a lot of free leave.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Well, you know, that's just the rules, baby. Okay, let's go ahead and push with the brief. We're going over to S2. Right, hey, you know the drill. First up, what do we got on the straight-of-hor moves? Okay, good. I see you did update your slide. That's excellent.
Starting point is 00:11:45 That's you, Trey. Gentlemen, yeah, no, the, I also updated my slides on the address computer, so that's why it's not on team. It's trash 5, idiot. Your slides up right now. No, so this is www.com. I just want to pull that up for the group.
Starting point is 00:12:07 If you're not watching on YouTube, gentlemen, as we like to say here in the Trash Battalion, you're an idiot. The answer is no, the straight is not open. I sent out an email to the XOs if the CEOs could follow up with them. Sent out to, for opt for
Starting point is 00:12:22 for this next battalion exercise, I was doing something a little bit different. Instead of getting Marines to sign up for Op 4, I just need y'all to collect trash. Don't throw it away for this exercise, and we're going to be littering out, and that's going to be the opt for this next next step. Yes, sir, thank you.
Starting point is 00:12:39 That is all I have. I should be on leave next week. I am going to the Sarmanager's house tonight. So if I don't see you, I, that's where I'm at. That's all for the group. Hey, this is Trash 5. Just a quick question here. Yeah, go ahead, sir.
Starting point is 00:12:54 Anything, could you start briefing us maybe on the space domain? Warfighting is war fighting, and space is a domain, and maybe we can start getting some out. Like, is there trash on the moon? You know, those are the kind of things we should be thinking about. So next week, just let us know about the space domain. I got a couple guardian buddies that'll be over this weekend, cracking IPAs, and I'll, I'll ask you for questions. I am on leave, but I will, I'll go ahead and take a lot. look and let the
Starting point is 00:13:25 my Lance Corporal who will be briefing next week. Oh, good. Yeah, he's good. Is he the one from Ohio? He's from Toledo. I love that. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:13:35 he's big mudhands fan. Yeah, tell him I told him he's doing a good job. Yeah, we call him old Luddhand in the vault. Call him Madonna. He'll love that. He's from Ohio. And then, you're going to be updating your slide, though,
Starting point is 00:13:52 even though you're on leave, correct? Like, we have access to teams 24-7. So even on leave, like we can still get in there and be doing our jobs as war fighters and updating our slides. Correct. That's correct. Yeah. Here to go. Let's just make sure that intent is understood is that slides will still be updated even on leave.
Starting point is 00:14:07 Yes, sir. Yeah. No, my wife was having a baby and I told her to hold it. I got to update these slides real quick. Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Excellent.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Hey, it's trash six. Yes, sir. Thanks for what you do for the team. You know, these women act like last month of childbirths difficult. And, you know, they, they, they, they, never felt the weight of the world on the shoulders, but that's why they call it the burden of command. But I appreciate what you do for the team. Tell your wife that I said, congratulations. And when you name that baby, let me know, I'm going to send you a little, I'm going to send you
Starting point is 00:14:37 a little trash bib and, yeah, get that baby started early. Yeah, so, yeah, no, I call that little baby. I saw that baby to walk back. Cube baby. Cube baby, you call that little crowd ad. Hey, thank you, Cajun Soldier Major. Thank you, uh, two. Go tigers. Yes, go tigers. Yes.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Auburn. Indeed. Auburn. Auburn. Okay. I'll get those in there. Um, all right. Uh, kicks over to trash three. That's me.
Starting point is 00:15:10 Okay. Uh, my slides, they are updated. You'll notice here. Um, what I've got on the slide here, uh, I've moved away from the quad slide. Um, and now it is a, a septuple slide. So I have seven different slots here. Each of them, as you'll see, you probably can't read them.
Starting point is 00:15:33 So you'll need to zoom in on your computer when you're reviewing these slides later. But those are the seven trackers that we have going right now. You'll see there's a lot of green, yellow, and red. We're working hard as a trash battalion and a three-shot driving operations. We're down there grinding away. We're coming in before everybody. We're leaving after everybody. Don't try to play the parking lot game with the three shot.
Starting point is 00:15:55 We will burn you to the ground. I promise that. We're going to turn all these slides, all these cells here in Excel Green. Yeah, nothing further for the group. Let me kick it over to the four. Does that mean this week? Okay. Gentlemen, good seeing you.
Starting point is 00:16:15 I was out on leave last week, so I'm playing catch up here a little bit. Hey, good see you too. Where'd you go? Toledo, sir On Toledo Love that Love that All that
Starting point is 00:16:26 All right Honestly underrated Yeah Underrated Yeah, underrated Spot for vacation Sir You hit the Chili's
Starting point is 00:16:32 You hit the Chili's in downtown No yes sir Yeah It's connected to the Mudhins Stadium Yeah Yeah I got baby back ribs Oh man
Starting point is 00:16:40 Some of the best ones I are at Don't forget Their three What's that called James Star major Three for five It's a week
Starting point is 00:16:50 What are you talking about that day down at that Chinese? What are you referring to? There's like three appetizers you can get for a deal. Three for five, yes, sir. Three for five. That's it. Yeah, they got it.
Starting point is 00:17:02 They got any gumbo. Yeah, I know, sir. I would not touch that gumbo with the temple pole. No, no way. I appreciate it. Sorry, Major. Anyway, four. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Glad you got to go home to the fam. Hope Mom and Dad are real proud of you. Yeah. Actually, no, sir. Yeah, no, I just made this Toledo Church, just went by myself. I just want to enjoy Tulis. on my own, just, you know, take it in, sights and sounds and everything. So really exciting.
Starting point is 00:17:25 That would have been a great time and be like, oh, no, sir. Actually, my parents died. I was going back to funeral. That was in my leave request. And you, you responded to the email. It was really, yeah. Really interesting, though, when I was in Toledo, I didn't realize all the roads kind of seem to come together right there.
Starting point is 00:17:46 So it's just really, it's, have you made of the four corners? Like in the, you know, the U.S., It's kind of the same thing. All the roads in the U.S. kind of come to right there. So it's pretty interesting. That's not another earth's not round. Yeah. 100%.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Yeah. 100%. Good brief for it. Yeah, nothing for the group. Yeah, great brief. Yeah, let's move this brief along here. Oh, dumpsters. Dumpsters are up.
Starting point is 00:18:15 That's all I got. Okay. Okay. Great, great stuff. Great stuff. Okay. Then let's move. on over medical dental uh chaplain sir i'm the mwr rep this is the quarterly meeting i'm supposed to
Starting point is 00:18:29 come to oh uh yeah remind us what what is your name you've we've changed over since the last one no jim jim was our last one who are you no i've actually been here for um 17 years but um anyway i've recently been promoted to the director of mwr affairs and i just want to say um we appreciate all the family support one at the MWR. It's the pizza buffet is on Wednesdays. It's $11. It's all you can eat. It's in the cafe. It becomes the e-club at 4 p.m. or I guess 1,600, you guys say. But you can come and eat pizza with your families from 11 to 3. It's just $11. And it's all you can eat. Think like growing up with a Pizza Hut buffet. and we really have a lot of good offerings and no one comes.
Starting point is 00:19:21 And so the Cajun Sergeant Major keeps just coming and eating all the leftover pizza. But I wanted to say that. And then I also wanted to say it appears that you've had like an insurgents of a bunch of power lifters into the gym or maybe it's just one. But we keep getting like mean form request through the QR code that's hanging in the lobby, complaining about the gym. lack of deadlift jacks, that the plates are made in China, that there's seven stair stepping machines, but four of them are broken. And they're all labeled. And then there was a follow-up inquiry or complaint, I'm not really sure, sir, that says, I understand that you labeled that the stair steppers are broken, but they're labeled showing that you haven't fixed them since February of this year.
Starting point is 00:20:11 But he probably doesn't understand the government shut down and how acquisitions were, but they are broken. And anyway, so it's just really stressing me out getting these complaints. I'm used to coming to work. Real quick. Real quick. So you're just identifying that the complaint has been heard. No, I'm just saying that it's stressful to me because I'm used to coming to work and things break and no one cares. And so just if you could tell this gentleman, maybe just to come to the pizza buffet and maybe that would just put him at ease. But I don't like having to do my job, okay? I'm sure we'll talk about the fire alarm later.
Starting point is 00:20:52 But anyway, thanks for being here. Pizza buffet Wednesday is 11 to 3. Whoever that marinas just needs to come to the pizza buffet and break some cheesy bread with you. That's what it sounds like. I don't want to meet him in person, but okay. Oh, wow. You know, I'm going to that piece of buffet.
Starting point is 00:21:14 That pizza buffet, I mean, I just go by myself. I mean, bring my family. It's pretty delicious. I think they just order from C-C's and then just charge you 20% because I feel like C-C-C-Cs. 11 bugs are a little bit steep for all you can eat pizza. That's a lot of for the group, gentlemen.
Starting point is 00:21:33 That's a C. C.C.S.R. Major, this is five. Is it, um, do they have any kind of, like Cajun pizzas or do you bring your own Cajun peppers? Oh, okay. I'll go with you Wednesday. It's too spicy. It's too spicy. It's too spicy for them.
Starting point is 00:21:57 Okay. Let's go ahead, move on. So real quick. That's how I have for the group. Go, yeah. Go, Tiger. Okay. Go, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:06 Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, okay. Okay. Good stuff. Okay. The Sixth Shop Shop me in email and a team's message and hit me up on Signal. They are in the thick of it with record jackets.
Starting point is 00:22:22 So no reps from the Sixth Shop here today. So you're going to have to get offline with them because they are in the fight up there with record jackets. So then let's kick it over to the outstations in or do we have any hung ordinance saved rounds? No, oh, goodness. Let's get the, These folks, you know, they probably got day jobs, you know, they got families at home.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Let's, you know, we don't want to drag these briefs out. Let's three, just get those outline stations. Outside stations. Okay, hey, great. We got a few that checked in with us. Really appreciate that. First up, our chaplain checking in. Love that.
Starting point is 00:22:59 He's out there doing battlefield circulation, so not here with us at the brief, but did get with us offline via teams message, signal message, email, both Nipper and Sipper. So really covering down with echelonting of fires and all that good stuff, making sure we get his good word. So chaplain here, I have received word that they will be issuing new Bibles per the Cajun sergeant or the per the Cajun chaplain's request. Okay, we have multiple Cajuns in the battalion now that's good to go. They're in a new translation that said, would really bring the gospel to the people. Here is an excerpt asked to share with me. sir can you all can y'all hear me uh yeah we can hear you this is the gulla sergeant i think that i heard that we was getting gullabibles in the battalion so i think i should go ahead and don't read
Starting point is 00:23:55 the word of the i think so although it doesn't know this conflicting word it's a chaplain it's the cajun chaplain but then it doesn't think it's from the gulla testament new testament so so let me try to explain this to you sometime you know know it's like they got an Episcopal church in Africa, which doesn't really make sense. So the Gullas, when their church going folk, actually don't read from the Gullah Bible. So the Cajuns, a lot of times they like that. So, man, who you think you die? Y'all can talk back to God.
Starting point is 00:24:25 For sure, playing clay pie and queen grumble to D. Noamam say, how come you make me like this at all? D1, one make the pot He got the right For take the clay and make Where one make I ain'te He got the right For take the clay for make A part while fancy
Starting point is 00:24:50 And fake me A pot was just plain Romans 919 221, Gullah New Testament You can You can check out The Gullabibles At Gullababobble.com
Starting point is 00:25:05 Hey, good plug, good plug. I'm sure you have no monetary affiliation with that website. Oh, no, sir. She's for the word of the Lord. I'm going to sign off now. Bye-bye. Then Cajun that signs off with.
Starting point is 00:25:22 I know God's word does not return void, but man, they did not teach us this in seminary. Cajun Chaplin can hopefully fill us in. Nothing else for the group. I'm going to say Cajun Gargola, Sergeant Major, I am very glad that you were able to dial in and read that for us. My goodness. And then we'll read.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Thank you a little word. I'm going to let you up and do that. Okay. And we've also got John Kay checking in, Colorado checking in, smoky and low vis, air quality, low, friendly reminder that the air purifiers are the dumpsters of the air. Take out the trash, all secure in sector seven. It's good stuff. Good, dude.
Starting point is 00:26:05 Good, dude. When you get that guy on? Yeah, actually, let's just get him on. Let's get him on. I got to send him his care package, actually. He sent me his address. My bad. Let's just keep talking about it.
Starting point is 00:26:16 No, we got to keep talking about it. No, we got to just keep talking about it. Now it's a bit. We can't actually send it. Oh, yeah. Well, yeah, we'll send it out this week. Your checks in the mail. Check's in the mail.
Starting point is 00:26:27 We'll tell you what. We'll send you the package when reserve officers start getting paid. That's right. who knows that'll be all right hey great brief for anyone
Starting point is 00:26:38 everyone that was phenomenal yeah it's good so yeah let's just get back to work so I'll give a shout out I don't know if he wants to be completely doc so I'll just call him Frank the Tank in school here
Starting point is 00:26:54 he's in a high up school I'm in the lowly juniors as they call it here but he's stumbled on the podcast this week enjoyed it we text it back forth. He listened to a couple of them. I think he was doing some driving. And I came over him and he said, so the Kajum Sartner Major is black,
Starting point is 00:27:11 right? And I said, no, he's just Kajun. So that's out to, you know, we don't know. He never logs into teams with his video camera on. But if we find out, we'll let you know. We'll let you know. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:26 Cajan, you're just, you know, he's green. He's green. Really found you know. And then, yeah, what is he might be dark green. you might be light green. I also got a comment on X, or I think it was X somewhere from Ray Tewy, long time listening to the podcast. He said,
Starting point is 00:27:40 man, you guys really missed it. I don't know why you weren't talking about Trey I last week. We'll play on of AI. Trey I. Trey. Trey. Anyway,
Starting point is 00:27:51 so that that competes with Alan Iverson for the, you know. AI. The verb is. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's good stuff.
Starting point is 00:28:01 It's pretty good. We got listeners. Quick with it. Still surprises me every time. Every time. All seven of them. Yeah. Hey, keep doing it.
Starting point is 00:28:10 Well, what are we jumping into? Should we start the show? Yeah, let's start the show. Sox are up three nothing, bottom of the eighth. And they get a man on second one out. Trey, do you want to start the show? They aren't first.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Yeah. What are we doing? We should start it? Oh, okay. Yeah. You got a lifting update. Yeah. Push.
Starting point is 00:28:29 Okay. Push. Push. Push. Got it, got. Okay, we're trying to finish this. We're trying to do a 10-minute podcast. All right, got it, got it.
Starting point is 00:28:38 Here we go. Okay, I see there's one. Are you guys, Trey, you probably won't be. This is a new term to me. Grant, are you tracking a gickle? I'm not. I assumed it meant Grant is creative, lovely.
Starting point is 00:29:02 Yeah, no, that's it. in reference too. Well, it's an acronym. And I guess it's like, and I don't know if it's like a just an Air Force aviator term, but the guy that's like teaching one of my classes is a. Is it like a pickle? Helicopter pilot.
Starting point is 00:29:17 Well, no peckle. I'm thinking peckles. Yeah, it's gickle. It's in for good idea cutoff line. And I was like that. I'm just like, okay, hey, the time for good ideas is over. We got to start actually. Yeah, doing stuff.
Starting point is 00:29:30 Turn in two. Gickle. Good idea cutoff line. We could do that. We could say S1 over to you, gickle. Okay, let's start the show. Good idea. Cut offline.
Starting point is 00:29:42 Yeah, see. I'm a fan. I'm a fan of the term. I plan to use it in the future. So, you know, I don't know that one. I thought it was just like, oh, he had the gickles. He had a little giggle. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:54 He's a little gickle in his throat. He couldn't update his slides. I thought it was gala is clearly language. Yeah, we will take alternative meanings of, of, yeah, to the gickle. Okay, okay. Let's move on. For your home gym owners, garage, garage is creative laboratory. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:30:21 Yeah, see? That's good. That's good. I'm like looking at our topics and I usually like try to find stuff that kind of like each other and then we're kind of. I don't know the place right now. Yeah, it's almost like been a little busy. I know, right?
Starting point is 00:30:37 I've been a lot of thinking about the pod. But we're still here. The show goes on. But I will say 22 days until college football season. Hey, 22 days. At some point, we'll make our picks. We'll, well, we'll do that. We're going to do that next week.
Starting point is 00:30:52 We're going to get that next week. We got to not mess this up. Remember last time we would make the picks and then it would air after the games or something? Well, we got to do the bubble. We're doing the bubble exercise first. And then do we want to go, do we want to go South Carolina, Texas A&M, Auburn, and pick the, go down the schedules and pick them? Yeah, you can do that.
Starting point is 00:31:14 Next week. Make sure you up to get your slide. So we're ready. Okay. Yeah. And, yeah, we'll have to get our special guest on. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:24 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Good stuff. Good stuff. down at B. No, I want to hear more. You put family heirloom. Was it the picture that you were referring to?
Starting point is 00:31:39 It was a bunch of stuff. So my dad is from Worcester Mass. And well, technically he's born in Lowell, but he was raised in Worcester. The Brogis came from Italy and went into Sanford, Maine. Broji Groger's was the first job by,
Starting point is 00:31:57 I believe it was Frank. Brogie in Sanford Bain. And I went and figured all this out, I don't know, five, six years ago. I went to the main historical society and like I dung up all the stuff. I found the graves and I completed some stuff in the family tree. We didn't know. But anyway, you can see the house that my grandfather was raised in. The structure that was the grocery store is still there.
Starting point is 00:32:24 I found a cool photo, I think from the late 1800s, early 1900. I can't remember the year on it. That shows the store. It's covered in snow. It says, you know, Brogi Grogues. And like, what I like on the windows, you can see, like, ice cream. So I don't know what all they sold in there. But anyway, they went to, to my grandfather ended up in Worcester as an eye doctor
Starting point is 00:32:46 and had a big, you know, classic New England, three-story house plus a basement. But one of the three-story New England homes where it's the same, almost. The third floor is a little bit smaller. but like that the size of the house stays the same because a lot of them, you know, they'll architect it. So, you know, the bottom floor is really big and the second floor gets smaller. And then it's like one room on the top. And so he had a really big home. In any event, he had a lot of paintings and stuff.
Starting point is 00:33:14 He had so much cool random stuff in the house. So he died, you know, it's been almost 20 years, 2007. And then my grandmother died five years ago this month. I believe it was this month. Yeah. And anyway, there's eight kids. There's an estate. There's all the stuff.
Starting point is 00:33:34 And so long story short, they're trying to close everything. And there's like one storage room that needs to be closed. So, you know, they got to call a Citadel man because no one else can seem to figure it out. I kid. But my dad's like, hey, can do me a favor? These items need to go to your alcohol in California.
Starting point is 00:33:54 You know, go get them. Show them that you have them. and then you can keep them all year and take them back when you go back and then just like take the rest of the dump. And like, yeah, yeah, sure. So I go. It ends up two aunts are there and uncles there. And man, it's just like so much stuff.
Starting point is 00:34:12 It's like those are the chairs I sat on Thanksgiving dinner as a kid. There's the table with the leaves out. There's like the elephant behind me. The lamp. Jordi, if the lamp's too bright, tell me what to do. Maybe I get a lower bulb. But that, like my grandfather was really in the lamp making. So he would like buy pieces of art, you know, so that's a brass element off to my left that you can't see is a brass fish.
Starting point is 00:34:36 And then basically he had, he'd, I won't say figured out who's super smart guy that he, he'd come up with a wiring plan and a wood base plan. And so he would grab random pieces of art and then he would make a lamp. And, you know, a lamp shift like reach up under the shade and like flip the thing. So he would wire it down to the base and put either a push or a spin button. So it's actually kind of nice. So I have one that he gave me on my 16th birthday. So there's lamps in there. There's paintings in there.
Starting point is 00:35:04 There's, you know, I don't know. The sisters of St. Anne Worcester, you know, knitted them that blanket. There's 30 years of, you know, Massachusetts Eye Society work. And they took like a punch bowl and engraved it and it has a lid. And it's all this stuff. You're like, I don't want to throw that away. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:26 And then there's like this. this uh for curio people can make fun of me curio i think c u rio but it's basically like a uh uh shelf with a glass doors and lights and then you put stuff in it and he had all these birds he had gotten from you know england so it's all these like little figurines uh there's just you know trays of spoons and forks and knives and it's all silver plate it doesn't have like super value but it's like oh that's stuff we used to eat up so anyway uh So I grabbed, I mean, I went with the plan to bring back like three small items. My truck was like piled high in the back, in the cab,
Starting point is 00:36:08 started raining in. I had to get a tarp. But yeah, I got a bunch of cool stuff. And I don't know that I'll keep it all. But we were trying to take some stuff to Goodwill and, you know, those sorts of places. And in New England, man, no one wants dining furniture. And I think it's too fold, and I'm open to feedback on this. I don't know if it's because there's just so much of it, right?
Starting point is 00:36:37 There used to be like all these big houses and, you know, dining room tables with 12 chairs and it's just too much supply. I don't know if it's the degradation of sophistication of people, regardless of social class that people just want to eat on paper plates and have convenience and throw everything away. I don't know if it's that families don't sit down to dinner anymore. Like that could be it as well. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:03 So there was a bunch of stuff we were taking to the dump, and I brought back way too much. But yeah, I got some cool stuff. I got a table that was my grandfather was Patrick Sweeney, his wife, oh, my great-grandfather, excuse me, on my grandmother, on my dad's mom's side, was from Ireland. And his wife had a table that was an antique when she got married and she had worked for a family in Belmont. And so anyway, I'm thinking this table's like late 17, early 1800s. I'm going to, I'm cleaning it up a little bit at the top, had a little bit of moisture damage. an uncle
Starting point is 00:37:50 tell me that if you take cigarette ash and petroleum jelly mix it together rub the top so I immediately went and bought a pack of marlboro lights and I've been working on the top of that you got to do you know it's for the family yeah so I got that table I got these lamps
Starting point is 00:38:08 there's a seascape in front of me and I don't think anything is particularly that antique table could be worth some of the antiques also are like they're like Bitcoin or you know you just got a hoddle um but a lot of it's like oh this hung in that room i remember being like 10 years old and looking at that it's in a middle value yeah so i grabbed a bunch stuff and uh it was kind of fun and then i'm in a new england house right now you know as i attend the naval war college and so i just walked in and was like this woman playing tennis means
Starting point is 00:38:42 nothing to me you're coming down you're going up and so it's kind of cool like in a new england house. There's a bunch of stuff that, like, as a kid, it was in my grandfather's house that I put up. And I don't know what I'll do with it at the end of the year. My plan is I told a bunch of my siblings, and they're like, oh, I would love that piece. I would love that piece. I'm like, well, I got home for most of it right now,
Starting point is 00:39:01 and I'll just, you know, divide it amongst grandchildren. And yeah, yeah, that's the family heirloom story. I like it. Man, it's, that's really cool story. I'm kind of like you, like, especially if it's like a family member, it's like if someone goes oh this was your granddad's I'm like well don't throw it away like yeah I want it like cool immediately cool yeah but I think that's very cool even if it's just like trinkets or whatnot not not important Abby is cold blooded Abby's like get rid of it throw away
Starting point is 00:39:33 garbage here dude you should have seen Diana when I pulled up in the truck I mean I pulled up like I pulled up like the Beverly Hillbillies and she's like what what do you like what do you like we don't have room for that in California. I'm like, that's a next year problem. Okay? I just brought that bridge and we get to it, man. I just saved all these items from destruction. Like, here, let me show you these book in.
Starting point is 00:40:02 So I got a pair of these. If you're not watching YouTube, you're an idiot. It's like a, this thing must weigh 10 pounds. It's like a marble slab on the bottom. And then it's got, you know, like a English pointer. Some kind of pointer. Maybe it's a hound. And so it's bookends, you know, so there's two of them.
Starting point is 00:40:20 And I'm like, I'm not giving those to some schmuck at Goodwill. Like, I'm taking them. And now it's kind of cool because where I'm doing all the studying, I'm using them. So at a minimum, I get used out of them this year. There you go. Yeah, that's pretty slick. I can dig it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:36 I don't know. I feel like Jeff is. One day, my. Jeff's probably sentimental. My grandkids will be grabbing all those football hammers. Like, ah, it's a visor, toss it. Viser, toss it. Oh, no visor.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Yeah, I'll take that one. I'm not to put in my will of who. who's going to get this small U.S. Border Patrol? What's one of my children is going to get this family? That's going to cause a rift in the family, I feel like. Jeff's in the middle. He's still driving Jeff. That is true.
Starting point is 00:41:04 Yeah. Till the wheels fall off, baby. Till the wheels fall off. We want to go right into truck talk? Yeah. Well, hold, I was going to say, kind of reminded me when you said this, I was like, it occurred to me the other day when I was at the, the library here at
Starting point is 00:41:19 Air University. Is that what you call it? Well, that's what like, so Air University encompasses like their squadron officer school. So like, think like Expeditionary Warfare School, but for the Air Force. So like, okay. Company grade school.
Starting point is 00:41:35 Yeah. Air Commanded Staff College, which is the one I'm at. And then the Air War College, all are like, JPMATU. Under Air University. The Air University. Okay. So then they have like the library
Starting point is 00:41:47 It's like this big circle and it's academic circle and the library sits in the middle. It's a pretty big library. But I was like, oh, I need to like look up. These must have some sort of like archive because my mom's dad, so my grandfather, my mom's side, was in the Army Air Corps and then like it was there at the end of World War II and then like transitioned into the Air Force.
Starting point is 00:42:11 And so I'm like, there's got to be some sort of like record somewhere of somebody who like trying to track down. Emmett Gatewood, see if he's in the archive somewhere. Did you find me? What are my mission? No, I haven't done it yet. Oh, okay. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:42:25 I was that. I need to go, no, I need to talk to the people at the library and be like, all right, where's your flight school records or something like that? There's got to be something. Oh, yeah, here's this old elevator. Make sure you have your cell phone when you go on it because we're, you know, it's probably going to. Was he pilot?
Starting point is 00:42:41 Uh-huh. Do you know what he flew? I don't, I don't. I don't. He will by the time he graduates. They will. That's right. You know what they call it?
Starting point is 00:42:50 The U. and then they go like this like it's flying. Yeah. Oh. But the air, you know how we, they've always done that.
Starting point is 00:42:59 They've always done that. Never not done it. How we sing the Marines, him whenever it comes on. Yeah. Well, the Air Force like sings their song, but I feel like their songs like,
Starting point is 00:43:08 like a carnival song. It just seems like a lot more fun when they sing it. Oh, really? It seems like, I thought it was a kids. I thought it was a kid's song for the long as time. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:43:19 I think of my love. Yeah, off we go. It's like, I thought those are like, for the longest, they're like, oh, ha, ha, and I'm like, dang. I think you mean chair force. Hey.
Starting point is 00:43:33 Yeah, got it. You know this? You know Space Forces song? Is the, uh, Guardians of the Galaxy? No, they adopted the theme song to Space Jam. Seriously? No, I've no idea.
Starting point is 00:43:44 Oh. We had some space. main lecture today. And there was a previous Lieutenant General retired. It was on a panel and she started by asking all the guardians to stand up.
Starting point is 00:44:02 And I was like, guardians, like, is that like a slang for Coast Guard? And I was like, oh, right. And then it was, it was, I think Norway has more people here than Space Force. It's like five people stood up. There's a, there's a decent
Starting point is 00:44:17 representation here. I mean, that makes sense. The Air Force basically just, like, sectioned off their space domain people to become. Does the Army dominate your school? How many of them are there? I'm sure. Dominate our school.
Starting point is 00:44:33 There's, they're probably the second most represented service. Is Space Force a department of the Air Force? No, I think it's a self thing. I think it's the same thing. I don't think of things. Did you get that whole brief about how all the services were built during the industrial age. So like Henry Ford made a car, we put armor on the car, put a gun on the car, we send the car to war. And so like we used the ideas of industry and then we weaponized it. And so
Starting point is 00:45:02 all of the services were brought forth during the industrial age, but that the space force was created by the government during the information age. And so it's much different. And so it's very culturally different because, well, now you have Elon Musk sending tons of satellites and all kind of stuff into space. But at the time, it was, you know, it's government created, therefore it moves slower, you know, all the things that come along with government. But I actually thought that was a really interesting thing to think about in terms of, in terms of like, hey, if you're a Smedley Butler guy, Wars a racket and you just think this is all big business, it's like, oh, everything during the industrial age, I mean, it really is.
Starting point is 00:45:44 it's like, hey, I make trucks. We want a truck or we want a truck like this to another business owner, except make it do these things, whereas space is, you know, I think the average person that's smarter than me, it's like, you know about space. Like, you know we fake the moon landing, like you don't really know a ton about space. The earth is flat. So the space force is made up. I'm driven across Chesapeake Bay, okay?
Starting point is 00:46:13 That thing's flat. I can see end to end on a clear day. Yeah, anyway, side note. Sorry, deep thinker here. I'm becoming an academic very quickly. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know if you guys have heard of... 10,000-year-old mind.
Starting point is 00:46:27 Yeah, 10,000 pound brains, what I like. I don't know if you guys have heard of... What's it called? Notebook.com. Google. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:39 Yeah. It's a good website. Yeah. It's going to catch on. Real academic over here. Super academic. Yes, sir. I've been using ass jeans on.
Starting point is 00:46:54 There's something inside a DOW that sounds like Ash Jeeves. It's Ash Jains or something. It's some kind of new generative AI. Oh, interesting. Yeah. And I was just like, I just like elbowed my classmates. Ash Jeeves, am I right? He's like, shut up.
Starting point is 00:47:10 I'm taking notes. Yeah. In my green. Monster. They said keep cybers to a minimum. I have to have this green monster book. It's the only thing that I can take notes in with my right in the rain pen. Hey, buddy.
Starting point is 00:47:22 I got this from the supply locker. Yeah, cool. That's good. Truck. Truck. Truck. Yeah. Truck talk.
Starting point is 00:47:33 Give people what they want. Yeah. So made the drive. Raleigh, North Carolina, Newport, Rhode Island. somewhere north of Maryland started getting a service engine code I keep that thing on me code reader you know when you drive in 97 you have to misfire on number three which is weird because she's all the plugs right before I left just hey put a piece of little tape over the service engine light kept driving got to Connecticut started hearing the tensioner pulley so for you
Starting point is 00:48:10 modern air people that don't know how to pop a hood and see what's happening. You get a main belt, often called the serpentine belt on mine is AC compressor, the alternator, and the tensioner pulley. One more. One more is on there. There's a fourth one. I can't remember it. I'm making fun of people, and I can't remember it. But the tensioner of pulley was making some noise, kind of like rattling. And I'm, you know, 90 miles from Newport. And I'm like, I'm just going to push, push. And so then the truck's been making noise. So I called a mechanic buddy of mine. He's a good. He's a oh yeah, tension is probably bad. You should change it, but there's no rush.
Starting point is 00:48:47 Like, there's no problem. Like, it just makes noise. I'm like, okay. And so I'm driving it like three miles to the war college, three miles back. And it's like, yeah, it rattles a bit. Who cares? Yeah, good for you, good for me.
Starting point is 00:49:02 But then I did that Worcester trip with all my family heirlooms in the back. And in any event, it rained. And then I was leaving school one day, and my wife, Parks Park's her car on the park spot. I park on the street, and it's always a little bit of summertime in Newport's a popular place. So it's always a little bit of Round Robin, not to mention 97, not a lot of turning radius, parallel parking. It's, you know, you never know where you're going to park. So I'm backing into a spot. And as I back into the spot, the belt snaps.
Starting point is 00:49:32 And so I went and looked. The AC compressor I had had replaced right before I took the trip. and so I really blame the mechanic because I told him like, hey, do the AC compressor, do the spark plugs, and just do it once over. Like, I'm driving it to Rhode Island. My wife's having a baby next month, like, do it.
Starting point is 00:49:51 And so he's like, I'm going to do a full tune-up. So to me, that's plugs wires distributor cap. To him, it was just plugs. And so I call him like, hey, the tensioner, he goes, oh, yeah, that thing was completely out of grease. It was completely out of grease. That was an OEM part. So I put a little dab of grease on there.
Starting point is 00:50:10 99% of the time that works. But don't worry, the part's only about $15. And that's just a 15 millimeter on the front of that post. And that belt's real easy to put on. And I didn't say this. He's a nice old man in the 70s. I'm thinking, dude, if the part's $15 and it's the original part, and you realized it was making noise,
Starting point is 00:50:32 couldn't you just like called me and said, hey, want to spend an extra $30? bucks. Yeah, I'm going to charge me 30, no. Charge me 60. Charge me. Honestly, at this point, so then I, luckily, it was parked in my house. By the Lord's blessings, Dad, by the Lord's blessings, it was at my house.
Starting point is 00:50:54 So I use USA roadside. Takes them like five hours to get a tow truck. And no, I just towed it. I'm like, I don't, I, I, 100% know I could swap that tensioner and put that bolt on. But I got a pregnant wife. an almost two-year-old daughter and a guy named Carl Klauswitz that I got to read
Starting point is 00:51:10 and I'm like, I don't want to be bent over the hood on the streets in Newport. There it is. On War, keep it on you. So anyway, that's my truck talk. I got it over there yesterday, went by today, they're going to look at it in the morning. I'll let you know if my analysis is wrong,
Starting point is 00:51:26 but I think that's what's wrong with it. But I don't like it because now I'm like pulling up to the war college and my wife's Tesla and I feel like people thinking about douchebag. They're probably like, oh, this guy must be smart. He could probably talk in the space domain brief. I'm like, listen, I'm an industrial revolution kind of guy, all right?
Starting point is 00:51:48 That's true. Yeah, tighten the industry. Just like, yeah, you get a hell. Yeah, whatever the Army needs, I'll manufacture it. Maybe these ships, I'll manufacture those too. No problem. Let me get my factories up and running. The guy putting in all those MWRQR codes is just like telling them, by the way, here's my
Starting point is 00:52:06 website. Your place is up. interesting. Hey, the stair step-up thing was true. Oh, I knew that 100% of that story was true. Yeah, all of it was true. And we still got to talk fire alarms, but, well, I've been doing this thing. I don't think I've had a workout that took longer than an hour.
Starting point is 00:52:26 I would like it to be, but it's just, I live close to my home, and there's a bunch of reading, only if you do it. But it's just like, I just want to, you know, spend as much time with my family as I can. I got my business to work on. And so I have not missed a workout in terms of like three times a week. I've gotten them all in, but I've just been doing two lifts, 20 pull-ups in as few sets as possible. Nice. And literally eight minutes on the stair stepping machine. And I can do all that right at 45 minutes. And that's just, that's just been my go-to. And two days ago, today's Wednesday, so Monday, I did my squats, I did my overhead presses,
Starting point is 00:53:13 actually a little bit extra. I was ahead of time. I did 30 pull-ups. And I went to go to the stairs stepping machine. And there's three people on one, and there's four that are broken. And it's literally every other. And so I took photos for an Instagram post, but I wanted the podcasts come out for up at the post off. post up, but it's it's like
Starting point is 00:53:35 broken in May broken in April broken in fat like it says like this machine is out of order and then there's a date on it so I go to the front desk and I'm no longer captain I'm a field grade 10,000 pound braid so I said hey so you got a lot of your stairs stepping machines
Starting point is 00:53:52 broken and I'm not a treadmill guy but you actually have a lot of those broken too and there's dates on them they're really old do you guys have a plan and it's like, so then they told me, fill out the QR code. So I got like 20 submissions right now. He's need a deadlift, Jack.
Starting point is 00:54:16 I don't know why your storage trees are the way they are. It's basically Jim Radar comments on Naval War Center Jim, NWR. Anyway. Great stuff. They'll get those stairs'ppers and you'll fix next week, next week, for sure. For sure. No way. Well, I said to the lady, I said to the lady today, so I went to her today. I said, hey.
Starting point is 00:54:39 It's on order. I said, who does, who does like your acquisitions? And she's like, excuse me? I was like, who like buys your gym equipment? And she's like, oh, I have no idea. And I said, oh, I said, I just, I was on the deadlift platform today, like the solely deadlift platform. It was the first time that I was on like the deadlift station.
Starting point is 00:55:00 And for you gym owners out there, even for home gym owners, for home gym owners, If you want to make your life easy, a barbell is, let's just call it eight feet long, it's seven feet, two inches long. It's really nice to have storage on either end of your platform. Now, you can be in a confined area, you could be on a budget. I totally understand one plate tree. But if you're opening a gym and it's like a commercial gym and you have three deadlift platforms in a row, why would you only have one storage rack of weights all the way on one side?
Starting point is 00:55:30 But I'd digress. I'd just let my efficiency brain go out the winter. window. We'll just let that go out the window. But how can a military institution focused on lethality and physical fitness not have a deadlift jack? I mean, there's, I'm like, are you kidding me? There's no deadlift jack in this base. So that's what I wanted to make the comment on. And then she, of course, just direct him into the QR. You know what it sounds like? It sounds like before they open the gym, they hit the gickle. And they just said, open this sucker. If only, if only.
Starting point is 00:56:06 They had to cut off the good ideas. That was the next one. Nope, we've already cut off the good ideas. Open the doors. Open the doors. They probably opened with broken stair steppers too. So then were you the one that pulled the fire alarm? So you tell me about your library fire alarm and then I'll tell you about my gym fire alarm. What the heck's going on?
Starting point is 00:56:27 Is this ISIS? Yes. Is this? Tell me, we're a marine. in the early teens of 2000 without telling me. Oh, you have a lot. Yeah, we beat them, man. Dude, we've beat Iran.
Starting point is 00:56:41 We've defeated Iran like 30 times. Come on. Yeah. And then we let them get back up off the mat. And then we've defeated them again. After we've obliterated them. And then, yeah, we're just doing great. We're just winning so many wars.
Starting point is 00:56:53 Yeah. So we had our first licenses gone. Yeah. Well, I'm sure they'll be back. They'll rebrand and come back. Yeah. There'll be ISIL. Isol.
Starting point is 00:57:06 All right. All right. Fire alarm. Yeah, yeah. So Friday, they, like, dropped at 1,600 or 4 p.m. for you, for your civilian listeners. They, like, dropped our first, like, paper prompt military theory class. And they're like, okay, hey, this is your midterm. It's due by, you know, 1159 p.m. on Monday or 2359 for you military types.
Starting point is 00:57:32 So I worked on it over the weekend and then Monday. You already turned it in. It's done. Monday. Yeah. So Monday we didn't have class because they gave us like that day to like work on your comprehensive writing day. So I like go to the library like reserve a little study room.
Starting point is 00:57:48 So I'm just in there like as soon as I sit down like getting all my stuff like plugged in, books laid out. They got a whiteboard in there. I'm like right now it's some stuff. Quick pause. When you're studying and I'm the most inefficient. person when it comes to any type of academic learning. But there's a lot of set up for me. Yeah. In terms of, I mean, there's 20 minutes of closing things and turn it off notifications
Starting point is 00:58:20 and I want this up and I want it. Do you feel that too? Like, like it's not like you just sit down in the library and read. Like, does it take you a little while? You got to log into whatever. I got to have blackboard up. I got to have my LM thing up over here. Do you feel? that or is that just a little bit of a prep time yeah okay i think there's definitely prep time yeah set up the yeah so also like finish all my prep set up and then like fire alarm goes off and like opi established i was like oh my gosh just can't be real okay so it's never real i'm like well i don't smell any smoke like people aren't screaming this isn't in a danger there's smoke there's smoke i'm gonna just pack everything up i'm not going to just leave it all here so i like pack it all up as soon as
Starting point is 00:59:04 like I open the door, a little storeroom and like step out, the fire alarm stops. And like everyone that's like on their way out of the library just like stops and like looks at each other. Like, so we just don't leave. And so everyone turns back around. And then this like another alarm goes off to let you know that the fire is or the threat or danger is over. And that thing goes off for like five minutes.
Starting point is 00:59:28 And you're just like, okay, I don't think we need so. It was just good. I was like, why? Who pulled the fire alarm? Come on. Come on, come on, guys. Let's, let's not. So my story is probably similar to your story, except that it's still going off. Oh, good.
Starting point is 00:59:44 So I have been on this base for almost a month. A month, it'll be a month in three days. So I probably had 12 workouts at the gym. When you open the front door to the gym, it's just like, be it's just like, in the very first day, I was like, oh, And I look around, there's people working out, the MWR staff looks clueless, there's signs by Patriots tickets hanging on the wall.
Starting point is 01:00:17 And so I naturally go to the sound of the beep. And, you know, I've never remembered Davy. I always remember Davy Cad, who Jeff Biggie knows well from tango battery, Mass Sergeant type, 0.811 can in the air. I remember being in 20 pounds with him one time, pulling up to a howitzer gun position and we are i don't know how many meters away from the gun line and they're elevating a tube and he hears the click click click click click click click click click click click click he says look at that you know whatever piece has this issue and no one on that gun
Starting point is 01:01:01 even hears that noise he's like do you hear that i was like yeah it sounds like if like something's messed up in your car under the hood and he's like in a davy cadway this generation they don't care they're not inquisitive blah blah and i don't know that he's right i think this generation's super smart uh but there is a level in the military of like if things are wrong and i'm talking corporate military i mean that example was kind of tactical but i'm talking the fire alarm in the gym if you walk over to the big red machine. It's like a panel box. It says like default code 071 call this number. And it just beeps nonstop. And everyone just comes in and does their workout. And I brought it up to the
Starting point is 01:01:54 front desk like three times. I'm like, hey, so what's a and it's not quiet. It is it is loud a F. And it's coming from a panel box on the wall. between the locker rooms and the basketball gym. So, like, once you kind of get into the weight room, you don't really hear it. I don't know. I'm just like, am I the only person concerned with this? Also, we have a machine that's broken.
Starting point is 01:02:21 Should we fix it? I think the guy who is supposed to turn off is probably just not getting paid. He's probably on leave. He's probably, you know, the Keynes our major. No, dude, I will say, like, the Marine Corps, and I thought I fell into this for sure, you know, like I just remember the buildings, especially in the battery buildings on Pogas.
Starting point is 01:02:40 Like they were old, right? They were running out. But it's always the attitude is like, I mean, somebody should fix that. So much to fix that. And there's very few people like Davy CAD. I would put Grant into this category. It's like, what are we doing? Like fix this.
Starting point is 01:02:57 And you're like, oh, okay, I guess we'll fix this now. Well, most of the time, it's just like, oh, someone just needed to call this one person. And then the, I remember those broken windows in Tango Battery Office after the deployment. And the window was broken. And I just remember like looking up some base number and calling like two days later, here's civilians, like putting in a new window bangs. But it's always like, it's like, hey, what's up with this door? And they're like, oh, we called somebody.
Starting point is 01:03:24 Didn't hear anything. Yeah. Okay. Well, we tried. Yeah. Yeah. We're just used to suffering. Well, I thought you were going to say.
Starting point is 01:03:32 It's usually what it is in that story. it's not the phone number. No, so it's not a phone number. It's like a code. I say that wrong. I would have called the phone number. Okay. And I'm probably going to go to the fire department on base.
Starting point is 01:03:45 It's probably what this is going to take when she's unfortunate because I got a lot of stuff to do. But anyway, yeah. I don't know. It's just mind boggling to me that no one's, I'm like, and I was, I was there today. And so I got on one of the working stairs stepping machines. and brother, that thing needs like a pound of grease. It was like, click, the whole time. So I'm fully sweaty.
Starting point is 01:04:12 And I want to talk about gym locker rooms, if you guys want to keep it no homo. For sure. And I'm in a full sweat. And I got to change of clothes, but I'm not going to shower because then you have to bring, I heard you, Trey, you have to bring all this stuff. And so I'm like, okay, I'm going to sit out in this atrium
Starting point is 01:04:31 for, you know, maybe 10 days. minutes and kind of cool down, like stop the sweat. And I'm just listening to that thing. Beep and beep. Anyway, yeah. Are you, you mentioned going to hangar gym. Are you going, is there like a room, like the standard military? There's a sauna.
Starting point is 01:04:52 There's lockers. There's showers. They're not in the, there's a tiny locker room that's like in super, like there's a urinal on the ground. Like it's in super. disrepair. Okay. So it's not like a come in, put your bag away, taking uniform off. Yeah. The other, oftentimes I'll go to the, like, the main gym changeover in the locker room there. That's like, that's, yeah. So you do change over in the locker room.
Starting point is 01:05:17 Rose of lockers. Uh, you know, you've got your showers, toilets. Other veterans on this base? Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Lots. So have you just seen like more 60 year old eggplants than they're just, they're just walking around and flip-flops? I don't know what happens when you turn 60 into our 60 year old listeners. I know we have them. We're almost there. We'll find out soon. Yeah. It's wild.
Starting point is 01:05:42 It's there's a lot of veterans. There's a lot of military folk. But one, okay, we're going to address a couple issues here. First of all, why are military? And like I've never, I haven't been to, I mean, I've been to a lot of commercial gyms, but I've never been a member of a commercial gym for a long time. But why are they so hot? as soon as you open that swinging door,
Starting point is 01:06:06 it's like it's, it's the humidity is like a hundred. And I'm not just talking Okinawa. Like it's Newport, Rhode Island. There's not a lot of humidity. And then I know the sauna rooms running, but there's always these big fans, you know,
Starting point is 01:06:18 blowing. And I guess there's no central air in the locker rooms. I don't know. Any military installation ever. Think about, think about one year's battery office. Dude. Yeah. That fulgus gym.
Starting point is 01:06:32 Pogus gym. sweat box yeah yeah big time big time 29 palms Wilburn Jim sweat box yeah I don't know but I've been walking in there and it's like you're in business casual like by the time you like are in camys you're already sweating and it's like you're hanging your business casual up and it's already wet and then you work out you come back in and you're sweaty from the workout out and I don't know about you, but for me, I'm like, I could bring shower shoes and shampoo and a towel, but that's just kind of a whole process. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:11 I don't share it. So I'm just going to change my underwear and, like, I have a hand towel, like dry my hair, leave in a ball cap. And somehow during that 10-minute process, like 27, 6-year-old guys get naked right in front of me. And I'm just like, what is that? Yeah, I'll say the locker room on Maxwell. Oh, Chris's coming. Everybody, everybody.
Starting point is 01:07:37 We're dropping trial, baby. It's like the rows where the lockers are. There's like a bent. There's like benches that run down the center. Yeah, of course. But they're like way too close. Like they're two, the lockers are too close. And like.
Starting point is 01:07:54 And if you're 60, you don't care. Uh-uh. They will just. And then I've also noticed the fair amount of the international officers. Oh. Yeah. They're just doing whatever, just fully buck naked, just like. Okay.
Starting point is 01:08:09 I just wanted to make sure that this was true across DOW. Sounds like it does. I got to give some props to the international officers. And I mean this from the bottom of my heart. And it's proof that they're war fighters. I was in a symposium today. So the, you know, the 05s are there. The 04s are there.
Starting point is 01:08:28 The internationals are there. And they give the, you know, they give them. these weird length of breaks sometimes, which I'm like, why do we have a 30 minute break? I can't do anything with 30 minutes that's productive, but whatever. So we have a 30 minute break. So I get up, I go outside. I call my wife. I'm like, I'm going to take a 10 minute walk.
Starting point is 01:08:49 I'm sitting all morning. And I come back in. I'm like, I don't want to sit in the auditorium yet. I'll go out to the patio. And the Navy War College is right on Arriganza Bay. It's overlooking the Great Bridge. It comes over from Jamestown. The views are magnificent.
Starting point is 01:09:02 They have every flag hanging up that's affiliated. It's kind of cool. So I was like, I'll just walk out of the patio. And I walk out and, you know, all the Americans are on their phones or eating breakfast. And man, every international office is just ripping darts. It is just like a smoke cloud. And I'm like, those are my allies. Like those guys know how to win a war.
Starting point is 01:09:28 I mean, it was just, I walked out and I was like, who's smoking cigarettes? This was what I thought. And I looked left. I was like, my brothers, all of them. I mean, just. Stop and dark, breaking hearts. And chain smoking them. Finish.
Starting point is 01:09:40 Next one. Good for them. Yeah. Seriously, good for them. Good for them. Love to see it. Love to hear about it. But yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:49 All right. Trey, I do want to, I want to hear your, we talked a little bit. So I'm a little bit on the know. But the Odyssey, what you think? Big Blockbuster movie. yeah great adventures in Odyssey with Mr. Whitaker exactly no it's like Homer
Starting point is 01:10:08 oh Homer it's the Simpsons yeah so like a till of the hunt yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah got it old school 1500s little before okay yeah yeah yeah close yeah close yeah closer than 2026
Starting point is 01:10:26 yeah closer than 2026 yeah you could be further away, but yeah. Could be so Christopher Nolan movie. You permit, Grand, do you know Christopher Nolan? Is that like Christopher Walking? Superman, got it.
Starting point is 01:10:42 Yep. No, that's Christopher Reeves. The difference between Christopher Reeves and Christopher walking, one can walk. Yeah. One hates horses. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:56 Yeah, so Christopher Nolan movie, Odyssey, came out, I think not too long ago. Dude, it got a ton of backlash. I've heard a ton about it, actually. Yeah, it got a ton of backlash. I was a big fan. I thought it was very good.
Starting point is 01:11:12 Like, very well told, good cast. I don't know. To me, it did not at this point. So if you like Chris Van Olin, I think you would be a fan of this movie. I've had a bunch of people that are way smarter than me. And these are like true friends, people that fall on X. and other outlets that have really liked it.
Starting point is 01:11:36 I just typed in to Google is the Odyssey gay and I got in short, Homer's original epic poem, The Odyssey is fundamentally heterosexual. So maybe I'll take a jab at it. Yeah, no. That was a joke.
Starting point is 01:11:51 You had a fair assessment, train. Would you say it's fundamentally heterosexual? Yeah, fundamentally. As I, you know, like, reflecting on it, I would say for the most part. Okay. So that was your main takeaway from the movie. I remember the credits rolled and I go.
Starting point is 01:12:09 Is it longer than two hours? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Is it longer than three? Oh, yeah. It's not? Oh, I thought it was. Okay. Is it longer than there will be blood? I would say no. I feel like that's a long movie. Yeah, I fell asleep during it.
Starting point is 01:12:26 Who did? Great map. Okay, yeah, two hours, two hours and 52 minutes for the Odyssey runtime. Just shy. But what's there will be what? Looking it up now. Dude, I have a policy as you look this up. If I am sleeping in a movie, I don't even find it.
Starting point is 01:12:47 I'm like, I'll watch this other. That's great. It's a great. I go to movies. I'm going to take a solid bag. I go to movies to sleep. It's, you know, like you buy a ticket. I'm like, I'm tired.
Starting point is 01:12:59 I'm just going to. I'll watch this some other time. Okay. What is it? Verz-in. Do we have any guesses? Do we have any guesses on the runtime? I'm going to say,
Starting point is 01:13:08 or is it over or under? I think it's very close. I think it's very. 310. I think it's 258. Here we get it. It's going to be 238. Oh.
Starting point is 01:13:22 Oh, dang. Yeah. Which I would have guessed, yeah. I thought it would have been three. That's how bad it was. It just fell. Just. felt like it was four hours long.
Starting point is 01:13:33 I took it to the point. During that movie. Get to the milkshake already. Oh, the milkshake. I've heard, like, isn't it, like, critically acclaimed, like really good movie? Oh, I mean, you're saying it.
Starting point is 01:13:44 It's, it is good. But, you know, have a couple pots of coffee, you know. 8.2 at 10. Yeah. 8.2.10 IMDB, 91% Rotten.
Starting point is 01:13:59 tomatoes. 4.5 out of five from letterboxed. Never heard of that. It's about Abe Lincoln, right? Yeah. Yeah. What's so sad, it's like, it's not, but I know exactly how you got there. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:17 Thank you. Thank you. I also knew it wasn't about him, but you knew how I got there. I knew exactly. It was so, I'm not with you too much because it was like immediately. I'm like, oh, yeah. You're like, you know, one guy wears a hat. Okay.
Starting point is 01:14:31 So he thinks that's a Lincoln. Oh, geez. No, honestly. Yeah, it was. Well, Dale Day Lewis did play Abraham Lincoln, right? In the Lincoln movie? Yes. That's how I really got there.
Starting point is 01:14:45 Yeah. No, Jeff thought the hat, which Jeff actually is tied in a little closer than you are. But I was like, I was like, Grant didn't know that Dale Day Lewis played Abraham Lincoln. And there's like a lot of shadows in the posters for the movie. You know what I mean? Lincoln, there was like, it's always like a silhouette and there will be blood. The guy's like standing there and his white shirt. Yeah. Anyway, I watched it in college.
Starting point is 01:15:08 I've never watched it again. And I slept through most of them. I gave you so, I gave you too much credit. Because I don't know like, oh, Daniel Day was played Lincoln. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He gave me weight out.
Starting point is 01:15:19 Just like he said. But Jeff knew it was because they both wore hats. That's the reason that connection was made. Hey, and that time friend they just called him. That's true. That's true. But yeah, no, honestly, there's a lot of hot takes on it. A lot of people have their opinions, but pretty solid, maybe.
Starting point is 01:15:38 I think we got some baseball things that could roll into some college patch deals, but I think we'd talk a little lifting first before I go to sleep. Cool. What's the topic? It was like pain management and the bench press. Yeah, sorry. I've run into that before. So it's, yeah, your question was pain management with bench press, which I know we've talked on to it, but we have talked on to it of like why your shoulder's hurting. But now you're kind of, I guess, the managing of how you do that.
Starting point is 01:16:12 So I'm kind of curious. Yeah. So it's, it's kind of interesting when you're dealing with pain in any of the barbell lifts. So I was talking to a Marine Lieutenant Colonel friend of mine today who recently found the podcast and said, you know, I am. am in a demographic of people that do strenuous physical activity for their life. And, you know, we're all 40, 38, 42, 45. And over my career, everyone develops back pain and rotator cuff pain. And he was saying, you know, as I have done the barbell lifts of the squat and the deadlift and the press and the bench press,
Starting point is 01:16:56 I've avoided a lot of the pain that people have. And he literally found some wood in the building that we were in and knocked on it because he knows it's so prevalent. And you got to remember, the military populace is fit compared to your average everyday American. And so he was saying that because I do these barbell lifts that train the most muscle mass to the greatest range of motion. And, you know, I add a little bit of weight each time and get stronger. I've avoided a lot of that.
Starting point is 01:17:26 And that is very true. At the same time, what I have seen in my own lifting and as I've coached a lot of people is shoulder pain becomes very prevalent in the bench press. And it can be a lot of things. If you are squatting and you have the bar in a slightly wrong position on your back, or if you don't understand how you're supposed to support
Starting point is 01:17:51 the load of the bar with your back, and instead are trying to hold it on your back with your hands, which puts a lot of tension on the humorous, which can either result in golfers, elbows tendonitis, or rotator cuff pain. And we'll just use the rotator cuff as a broad term. There's a lot of different things that happen in the shoulder, where the gleanoid hits the top of the head of the humorous.
Starting point is 01:18:17 And so there's a lot of different things that can happen. But what I have found is that it presents itself in bench press, pain. So you may squat just fine, you may press just fine, you can still deadlift, you can still do bicep curls, but when you bench press, it hurts. And as I have lifted for longer, I sometimes wonder, you know, how important is it to push the bench press all the time? Because sometimes if the bench press seems to either be producing pain because of incorrect form from the other lifts or from itself, you know, maybe I don't need to bench quite as heavy. And so I'll give you a quick story and then we'll talk about what you can do to keep lifting. So I was benching last year. I was deployed
Starting point is 01:19:07 over to Okinawa, Japan, and then on a ship and on ship, I had a good amount of time to lift each day, which I don't usually have. And so I was running like a pretty hard, intensive program. So squatting really heavy you know eight sets of five a week over 400 pounds i was benching heavy i was deadlifting heavy and i remember there's one day i was on the ship and no it's not because of the pitch and the roll everyone's talked about the pitch in the roll but i was benching 370 for a double and on the second rep my shoulder got super aggravated and i don't know what it was and it wasn't nothing popped nothing broke you know i didn't tear my bisoned up, but my shoulder just started to really irritate me. And so then the next day that I went to
Starting point is 01:19:54 lift, which I think was 48 hours later, so, you know, two days later, I went to squat, and now it's irritating me when I go to squat because I'm in this position with my hand behind my shoulder, trying to get under the bar, and it was super uncomfortable. And so a lot of folks, and this is what I was talking to my lieutenant colonel friend about, and what he was saying as he listened to the podcast that it confirmed was they do nothing. They say, this is hurt. Now, I'm not going to squat. I'm not going to bench.
Starting point is 01:20:24 I'm not going to deadlift. I'm not going to do anything. Now, what I have found is that the Mars bar is the best solution to a shoulder injury. If you have a shoulder injury, we'll pause on the bench for a second. If you have a shoulder injury and you want to continue to get strong, the Mars bar sits on your back like a jet pack.
Starting point is 01:20:40 You can hold it. It's in a low bar position. It's actually in an even lower bar position then we would teach it with a straight bar, and you can still continue to get strong. So it's a really good option to do that. The problem is when you, I was on ship, there was no Mars bar.
Starting point is 01:20:58 So now this irritation that I had in my rotator cuff made it where I couldn't squat heavy. I could still press heavy, and I still could lift heavy, but it took two of the lifts and my big four and kind of took them out of commission. But it shouldn't take you completely out of commission. You have to keep lifting.
Starting point is 01:21:16 So I'd say all this to say a relevant, real world today example. I was lifting today. I deadlifted 465 for a set of five and did a back offset of 425 for 5. And then I did another backoff set of 325 for 5. Then I went into some barbell rows. And then I was going to go on to my bench press activity. And I went to go bench and I was on a commercial setup. up. It's those lean back, tilted, you know, big hooks for J hooks, welded on, attached to the bench kind of deal. And so the way you took it out was just a little funky. And it was the only thing that was available to me. The other hammer string power racks were taken. And so I said, I'll just go bench over here. And I went to take out 275 and I just kind of felt something weird in my rotator cuff. And so I, I,
Starting point is 01:22:12 just brought the weight back down to 225, and I brought my grip in a little bit, and I was able to do five by five with no pain. But my point is whenever the shoulder is a very interesting joint, there's a lot of things going on in there, and if you're experiencing pain there, the answer can never be, I'm just not going to lift anymore. Or I'm not going to binge press today, or I'm not going to never binge press. You have to find a way to manage the bench press,
Starting point is 01:22:42 so that you can continue to do it. Now, I have a lot of training experience. So I know if the interior area of the rotator cuff is hurting, bring your grip in, which brings your elbows in, the bottom position tends to help. And I was able to do that. Now, did I get as much stress as I could have? No, like I was planning on benching 300 for three sets of five today.
Starting point is 01:23:09 And I didn't get anywhere near close to that. but rather than hang it up, I made some adjustments to say, how can it be pain-free? And the rule of thumb, any injury, shoulder, ankle, the elbow tendonitis, humorous pain, whatever your pain is, if you can lift moderately heavy or heavy in some cases, and the pain doesn't get worse, do it. That is exactly what you should do. You should go as heavy as you can where the pain doesn't get worse. So as I benched 5 by 5, close grip, 225 today, every rep I experience in pain.
Starting point is 01:23:48 But as I did the repetitions, the pain did not increase. And so on the bench press, in particular, it's the number one thing that seems to aggravate people. It's elbows or its shoulder. If it's shoulder, it can be a lot of things. I mean, sometimes if you don't start lifting until you're 40 years old, you could have a lot of bad posture, you know, during your life. You could have a lot of bad habits. You've never, you know, done the press, which I think is the best shoulder exercise you can do overhead. And, you know, it's just your shoulders mad at you because you haven't done these things for a long time. But if you're even a
Starting point is 01:24:26 lifter and, you know, what I mean by that is someone that is, you know, religiously going to the gym and attempting to be consistent and adding weight each time or running a logical program that makes sense and the shoulder flares up, don't just throw out the whole thing. You can make some adjustments. Sometimes going to wider helps, sometimes going to more narrow helps, sometimes focus on keeping your elbows in helps. But you should try to keep it in your toolkit as much as you can. And it might be light.
Starting point is 01:24:56 I mean, you know, weight is all relative to the lifter. So for you, let's say you're a 225 pound bench presser. That might be, hey, I'm benching 1.35, 5 by 5. Is that causing stress to make you a 230 pound lifter? No, it's not. But it is keeping a movement pattern. It's keeping the muscles and the joints working. And I think it's helping.
Starting point is 01:25:18 And that's kind of where I was, stay with 225. And I don't say that to sound like, hey, I'm some big strong guy, but because of my bench strength, 225 to me is, you know, not a ton of weight. But, hey, I can do this weight with moderate to little pain.
Starting point is 01:25:33 And so I see this a lot. It comes up not with so many people. I coach because with people that I coach, we as soon as something like this happens, we just put in something for them to do and then very, you know, four to six weeks later, they're beyond it, which is what I expect to be. But I get this question a lot from folks that get on the strength.com and the strength.com and the strength.com and they type in questions. They're looking for, you know, consultation advice.
Starting point is 01:26:01 They reply to me on X. It's generally shoulder, shoulder and low back. Those are the two things that we see. So if your shoulder's hurting and you're scared to bench press, I would say go bench press. Play with your grip. Make sure you have the basic fundamentals down. Your elbows are forward of the bar as the bar touches your chest. All of those things need to apply first, right?
Starting point is 01:26:22 Because you could have a really bad form and then your grant told me to bench anyway. But if your form is in the wheelhouse, so we would call safe, you know what you're doing, that sort of thing. play with your grip width and just kind of find a way that you can continue to bench and for however many weeks, not alone. I've seen it be one week and I've seen it be 12 weeks, probably seen it be 16 weeks. You may be benching a weight that it seems very, there's, you know, it doesn't do anything for you, but just do it anyway and you'll get to the other side of that.
Starting point is 01:26:59 That's my thoughts on the bench press. Hope it helps. Okay, we got that part done. You say all that to say no pain, no gain, right? Well, it's kind of like a theory. Oh, okay. Wait, what's Clausewitz chapter one? You, it's, uh, well, no, what's the term?
Starting point is 01:27:21 Hang on, I pull up my notes. A specific term that's used, not by Clausewitz, but by people talking about it. Oh, like, you know, a man goes to the doctor. you give him ibuprofen. That's a general prescription. You're treating the symptom, not the cause kind of thing? No, but then you find out like, oh, he weighs this much.
Starting point is 01:27:51 Hang on, I'm going to pull it. I'm going to pull it up. Principle versus practice. Is that it? No, that's not it. Yeah, general principle. Clausewitz typically begins a chapter with a universal truth or broad theoretical principle.
Starting point is 01:28:09 Change your grip. Modifications in practice. That's what I was looking for. He then spends several paragraphs or pages says to how real world factors might modify, circumscribe, different than circumcise for you
Starting point is 01:28:24 Jewish types or even completely negate the general principle. So you could get to a place where it doesn't even matter anymore. Yeah. Yeah. Very well. That's not going to win. Modifications. in practice. That's lifting. That's lifting.
Starting point is 01:28:44 You know, cause it was called on war. You know what he used to call it? On lifting. On the, on the, German joke, yeah. Actually, he was he German or was he Prussian? He's Prussian. Which, Prussian.
Starting point is 01:28:59 Which is different than Russian. Yeah. Also different than Peruvian. Yes. No. The same. No. Very little known facts. It's the same. Little known facts.
Starting point is 01:29:11 I've been calling Peru, Prussia this whole time. Me too. Until the World Cup, I thought Peru was Prussia. My goodness. All right, all right. Let's hit. Hung ordinance. Newport goals is baseball.
Starting point is 01:29:29 Did you go see a minor league game? Yeah, I went to a goals game. Mama's in town. You know, you got, Tray knows as well. When your wife's pregnant and you have, a kid and your mother's in town, it's like the fog of war. You're like, how do I make everybody happy? You can't. You can, but someone will eventually suffer. So I was trying to think of like, Trey, let's get dad talk for a minute. Do you feel like
Starting point is 01:30:06 outings are helpful for your family? Where? Let's talk Clausewitz. Let's talk general principle and then we'll do modifications in practice. So do you think a good plan for Abby in three girls under two is to stay at the house all day? No. Okay. I would agree with you then. I think that's a general thing I would say.
Starting point is 01:30:33 Like this is not good. Like people need to get out of the house and why you may want to stay at the house. You have more toys. You have more access to milk. You have, you know, all your baby stuff. changing tables. It seems to me, young dad, father of two, ones in the womb, like an outing is important. You would agree with that?
Starting point is 01:30:55 Yeah, I would say that. At minimum, one of those, the kids or the wife, either everybody goes out or at least one goes out and the other one stays. Yeah, well, you are also like basically a Clausewitz example of not a normal person of three girls under two years old. But in general, it is good for people to have an outing. Correct. Yeah, I would agree. Now, the problem is, you know, getting the outing to occur and then managing the outings.
Starting point is 01:31:27 So the outing doesn't go too far. Maybe people get hot. It's a long way back. Maybe there's a seagull farm that the kid wants to stay at. You know, you've got to manage all these things. So me, in all of my theories, it's all theories. though. All theories.
Starting point is 01:31:44 Feeling, theory. Theory is one thing. Real feelings, you know, really paint the picture. I thought, everyone should get out of the house.
Starting point is 01:31:54 What's easy? We are blessed to be able to walk to the Newport Gold Stadium. It's $2 for military. Diana has a military ID, so it's $2 for her. It's $2 for seniors. I won't tell you how my mother is because she'd slap me. And it's free for kids under two. So I'm like, for not to.
Starting point is 01:32:19 Well, I'm just thinking the goals play at 6.35. We're talking about $6.00 barrier of entry. If the wheels fall off after 30 minutes, you're out six bucks. And we're back home in eight minutes. You know, it's an eight minute of walk. So, yeah, went to a goals game. And we made it about an hour and, 10 minutes got in there old stadium oldest running baseball stadium in the country it is debated
Starting point is 01:32:51 and i don't know by who but i know it's debated they're 1912 and i think it's debated on no way is that finways 1912 i might be mixed in numbers but anyway jeff can data check me It's debated because what they have is something called a summer league and a sunset league. So the summer league is the New England College Baseball League where people get recruited to play for the goals for the month of June and July. And, you know, it's summer ball. And then on the other days, there's like, you know, Gottlitch Hose Company is playing the mud hens. you know it's a great matchup happens every year no i i digress but there's baseball games so it's the longest running like baseball is played here and i think that's why it's contested it's not
Starting point is 01:33:49 necessarily a specific team but it's we keep playing baseball here uh 1912 Fenway park uh this stadium cardine cardine's uh looks like cardine as personally groundbreaking It says, 1908. I don't know if he gives me the first game was. Jeff just texted his dad. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:16 That guy's not using generative AI. Let me see. Okay, okay, okay. So, hour and a half. That's pretty good. I would say for everybody. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:30 Yeah. So we went in. So we go to the game. It was fun. They play lots of music. I was looking for the announcer. because I know he's Jeff's dad. Like the dude's got to be 90.
Starting point is 01:34:42 He knows every baseball stat. And he's every time he's like, and next up, the third baseman, Jeff Biggie from Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia. I'm like, Cosmo from the South. Because it's all college players. So they're from all over the country,
Starting point is 01:35:01 which is pretty cool. So we go to the game. Goals are up, I think. Three, nothing when we left. We had a hot dog, we had fries, we had ice cream. It was great.
Starting point is 01:35:10 Walk to him, everything was good. We went home before the wheels came off. Like, as we saw the tensioner pulley starting to rattle, we were like, let's go home.
Starting point is 01:35:19 And you would just put a little grease on it and call it. Yeah, just put a little grease on it. Yeah, here's another ice cream come. Let's keep staying for the ninth inning. I kind of wish we had. Because it turns out it was a playoff game,
Starting point is 01:35:30 unbeknownst to me, I'm managing all these women, trying to make everybody happy. And the goals won. They've since been kicked out of the play. playoffs. They lost the next game, then they had the rubber game. But they walked it off in the bottom of the ninth. I think they won eight, seven. Great game. Oh, we would have never made it that far. But my analysis was correct of tenouting. So yeah, one to a goals game.
Starting point is 01:35:55 Go goals. They beat the Bristol Blues. Okay, okay. Bristol, Connecticut. For you, Southern types. It was on ESPN. or no, Bristol is the home of where ESPN's headquartered it. Oh, yeah, it was on ESPN plus, and then I think the final game was on ESPN. You, yeah, no, Telemundo. Telemundo. Go.
Starting point is 01:36:25 Oh, is that your question or your topic about sliding into bases? Was it from that game? No, that was a Red Sox game I was watching. And Jeff, this is mainly for you, not that Tray can't comment. I was watching a Red Sox game. I can't remember who they were playing. We just beat everybody so much that I can't remember who. No, we were, no, no, no, we were fielding.
Starting point is 01:36:53 Guy goes in the second. Killer throw from the outfield. Dude beats it. But it's a super aggressive slide. hits the bag as the second baseman, maybe it was a shortstop, I don't know, gets the ball and he does his due diligence of tag the base runner and the base runner pops off a second base and he's out. It was against the Dodgers.
Starting point is 01:37:21 Oh, even better. No, the best. They're like kind of worse than the anchors in some ways. How do you feel about that? It's great. Great work by the middle infielder. So so the announcers were saying, oh, come on,
Starting point is 01:37:43 the base runner did a great job. He rounded first well. He got it. It was an aggressive slide. These guys, if they try to stay on base, they're going to break an ankle. So they got to let their bodies move beyond. And I couldn't disagree more.
Starting point is 01:38:01 No, that's not the game. That's not the game. If you're going to go for the double, you got to also factor in that like, I'm trying to leg this thing out, sprint and full speed. Okay, you're going to time your slide so that like Jeff, they're going to get injured. They got a slide sooner. They're sliding too late. $10 million a year.
Starting point is 01:38:22 I want to see some broken angles. Yeah. I have, I have seen that though in that. I remember we were playing. It was a turf. It was an all turf field. So even the infields turf. So like there's the green turf and then they have like the dirt colored turf,
Starting point is 01:38:37 but the whole field's turf. Light drizzle. So like you slide on that. You are going a million miles an hour. Like you would have had to start sliding like halfway to second base to actually like stop in time. Dude slides so late like going so fast and it's like foot just like hangs on to the side of the bag. And yep, ankle is just like foot's pointing the wrong way. So he was not, I assume, was not getting paid millions of dollars.
Starting point is 01:39:04 Yeah, he was getting paid. Emerson dollars. We call it Emerson bucks? I don't know if it was technically our home field, so we weren't getting pretty, so you would get $8 if it was a road game. So for meals to cover any food. Oh, that covers meals in this day, age. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:39:21 Thanks Obama. Stan Nance, our athletic director. Oh, you'll go into, you go to, you can go to the goals. You can go to the goals for eight bucks. You can go a couple goals. games. I spent more money in the concessions stand than I did for tickets. That's how I get you. You got to start an AD, bringing some hot dogs in your purse.
Starting point is 01:39:43 Yeah, come on. You could have. Yeah, get some Coors light in that diaper bag, you know, come on. Rocky Mountain High, baby. There we go, baby. Yeah, I think you got to stay in the bag. Yeah. That's literally.
Starting point is 01:40:00 Part of the, that's the rule. Like, if you're off the bag, you get tagged. Let me give a few Strenko updates before we go into hung ordinance. The Strenko 45 pound plate, the America 250 plate. It is just hit the machine shop today. So it's real. It's happening. There's been new photos coming out of it soon.
Starting point is 01:40:20 It should be exciting for you. For all the pre-buyers, we appreciate your support. Really cool plate. If you're a new listener to Strenko, 45-pound plate, we added the America 250 to it and an American flag. The American flag is going to be colorized. And it's a limited run. We won't do this again.
Starting point is 01:40:37 America only turns 250 once. We have advertised that it will release Veterans Day. And it will. But I will tell you for all the people that pre-bought in July, thank you. And as a thank you, when I have them, I'm just going to go ahead and ship them to you. I'm just going to go ahead and send them out to you so you can get them. and that's over 200 pairs that have gone. Now, there is about another 200 pairs left that will go fast.
Starting point is 01:41:10 If you are internet savvy and go to the website, there's actually a way that you can pre-order them. We don't advertise that only to our listeners, but you could technically find them on the site and buy them right now. They won't pop up to you. They will pop up to you to get your email, but they won't pop up to you to buy. But the American 250 plate is super cool.
Starting point is 01:41:32 I'm really excited about it. And you can go and buy that now. The 0.75 pound plates, we're out of stock for about six months. They're back. And those are limited quantities. I'll tell you this as a business owner-operator. The 0.75 pound plate, you know, that's not a moneymaker for me. There's a lot of machining to make a plate that small.
Starting point is 01:41:55 And that's why I don't make a lot of them all the time, but I do appreciate everyone that buys them because I know that they are real lifters. So those have been going very fast. So if you want those plates, go get them. Also, we have the Stranko app coming out very soon. I haven't talked about this at all, but it's going to be really cool.
Starting point is 01:42:17 We have over 200 lifters in our online lifting community that are beta testing, probably next week. the app. I'm beta testing it right now and it's going to do a lot of stuff for you. So if you're not on our Slack channel, go get on the Slack channel. You're going to get first access to everything. And the app, the app is cool. It is a workout log. It, you know, it has AI. I realize that everyone has access to AI. But prior to AI getting super fun and fancy and everyone has in their hands, we've been writing code. Mark Ripeto, Grant Broghi, Paul Horn, those principles into an app. And it's going to be cool. And it's going to be great for your workouts. So you don't want to miss that. I think I'm good at announcements.
Starting point is 01:43:12 I feel like I'm in church right now. Deacon Trey, do we have any more announcements? No. That's for the group. Yeah. That's for the congregation. All right, Trey. unless Jeff has any hung ordinance.
Starting point is 01:43:26 Let's take this thing down for a landing. Take it in for a landing, tray. Pfe? We are past the point of good ideas. We've hit the glick. Drawing the line. Gittle? Giggle.

My mother has this thing because she's from the South where if I tell her to send a pound cake to someone,
Starting point is 01:46:39 she just mails them a pound cake. We've tried this. Well, I think the problem is Jordan didn't timestamp it. Oh, okay. So, Jordy timestamp it. Mom, send Trey a pound cake. I would love one. And then you can put it on Chow Radar.

You will find a link to Chow Radar, which we will talk about next week. What we're going to do with it, we don't know, but it's going to be great.
Starting point is 01:47:38 Outside of that, coach, don't miss me then. I can tell you ready to go. We'll see you next time. Thanks for tuning in.
