Are we rolling?
Are we rolling?
Are we rolling?
Are we rolling?
Wait.
Does anyone love us?
Oh.
Ernest Angel does.
Oh, okay.
I was wondering.
Oh, now we're rolling.
Come in when you want to.
Dead leaves in the dirty ground.
All right, welcome back to episode 0128 of the OK podcast, Power by the Stranko.
I am your host, Grant Brogi.
Today's date is September the 22nd in the year of our Lord, 2026. The price of Bitcoin is $86,310.
So Bitcoin is doubled. It's doubled. We like to say it's almost doubled, but it's actually,
it's more than doubled. If you started listening to this podcast at episode zero one and you put a little Bitcoin,
you bought a little bit and you said, I don't really know what this is. I know there's a block. I know there's a chain.
and these guys are not giving me financial advice,
but they said to invest in the blockchain,
you did it.
You would have doubled your money.
We can do this with mathematics if you'd like.
Let's say you would have bought $100 of Bitcoin.
It would now be worth $200.
What?
I'm explaining this for boomers,
and I'm explaining this for people that don't understand Bitcoin.
So I'm explaining this for boomers,
for the people that don't understand it.
So if it was $100, it would now be $200.
Okay.
If you had invested $200, it would now be $400.
If you had invested $500, it would be $1,000.
If you'd invested $10,000, it'd be $20,000.
So the point is, if you listen to the podcast, you can't lose.
True.
Okay.
And if you didn't buy Bitcoin, well, it's like if you're not watching us on YouTube,
you're an idiot.
There we go.
You need to watch us on YouTube.
We're live on X right now.
We go live.
We have about three people.
tune in every Tuesday or Wednesday night live on X.
We appreciate that because it makes us feel like we're not doing live for nothing.
Is it the same three people?
Sorry, I ruined your ready.
Well, two of them are the same.
And then there's just one Indian bot that seems to hop on there.
Dot tight, not feather.
And just, you know, and soaks it in.
Then they tend to call the phone the next day and ask if I have a forklift for sale.
We appreciate all our listeners.
Do you have a manager?
and I just always say,
do you have someone that speaks better English?
You have forklift for sale?
No, I don't.
And then they say something, I say,
I can't understand you.
And this isn't me being mean or biased.
I just, if I can't understand someone
and I realize it's a sales call,
why should I put up with this?
I should just hang up, but you never know.
In any event, episode 0128
against all
we're on death ground
okay this podcast was on death ground tonight
we didn't think we would be able to get it off
all right it's like
it's like Hitler when he hits the eastern front
breaks through the lines and spreads out his panzers
and realizes I don't have
the industrial support for this
but we're not Hitler
yeah we are not let's establish that
You're not Hitler, and so we're not on death ground.
That's why you call it podcasting, and you make it work no matter what.
I'm joining the studio tonight by major currently in a drilling status, a paid, well, technically
not drilling status, currently just a major.
Moving on up in the world.
And the greater Salt Lake City area, if you were to take a pin on the map, put it in Salt
Lake City, Utah, and then continue to make a bubble spread out.
You'd eventually hit Montgomery, Alabama, which is the home of Arizona.
power and that's where major jeff biggie is at the air school so air and sea power so one of us studies
sea power my buddy and then jeff studies air power if you put those two things together sea power and
air power you basically have the marine corps so to us these concepts aren't very foreign but to some
they are yes um the sergeant major uh cajan types out on leave we hope he has a good time uh he's celebrating
10th? 10th, yeah, 10th for the industry.
10 years of marriage, 10 years of marriage. So that's tough to do against tall grass, actually.
So we applaud him in his efforts with his wife. Last we checked, he was at the pool
with the gullas sergeant major eating gumbo. So I think he's having a good time. So we've given him
a week off. But us iron majors, listen, we stay in the fight. We don't get time for leave. We
like giving leave back to the government.
The only easy day was yesterday.
We've always said that. Never not.
This podcast is brought to you by BW Tax.
BW.
Tacks, great guy better at taxes.
BW, it's
tax season. For some people,
taxes are in October. There's like
weird extensions and things that you can do.
So he's always under the gun.
There's always a gun to his head
by the IRS
and he's always pointing it away from
your head back to his own and fixing your problems. So give BW Tax a call. This podcast also brought to you
by Mr. Helmet, Green, Gridiron, Gridiron Green. Football season is upon us. As you know, we are making
college football picks. Actually, Grant has made so many picks that he does. It's crazy. He broke this system.
He's in ESPN.com every week, just clicking those picks and getting them right. But you might want a
helmet. And exciting news, the Navy midshipment helmet is back. It's back. And the first time in a long
time, we finally got the licensing approved. I say we because Mr. Helmets like family to us.
But it's back. He told me it's back. You can click on the link below, go over there, get yourself
a Navy midshipman helmet. So maybe you're a Marine. You didn't go to college. You're an enlisted
guy. You were an admin. You know, you just made people's life miserable, your whole career. But
out of that you were like well the navy's the closest thing i can have to a football team go buy yourself
a helmet check out mr helmet um whatever the price of bitcoin one of the day's date all those things
sir any any turkey polls coming up yeah turkey pull coming up December did we figure out the date
December the 5th oh may the fifth be with you of December is that that's what you think
it turkey poll yeah i definitely picked it based off of that of star
26, November 21st, I'm way off, 11 a.m., Newport Beach, November 21st.
I'm going to try to make it from Newport, Rhode Island.
I get to figure out how that'll work.
But you can go on, 50 bucks, you can buy your spot.
You can either go in-person, come Newport Beach, California, and compete.
I think we have about 30 people last they checked, signed up for in-person, or you can compete
online. You can buy the t-shirt, get it sent to your house, pull a heavy deadlift, we'll let you
straps, we'll let you hitch, we'll let you do whatever. And then we take all the proceeds,
which is usually a couple thousand bucks each year. We send it to the Semperfying America's Fund.
So you can compete online or in person, go buy it. We're looking at hosting it next year in
in Toledo, Ohio. We're working with the mayor over there. We just said, hey, the roads,
they all kind of go there. It might be a central
location. So if you're in Toledo right now and you know the mayor, we're in talks with them.
We'd love to get some inside scoop and how to get this thing on the Toledo Hall City Steps next
year for the Turkey Bowl. Now, we are on a tight timeline tonight and some people may say,
what are you going to skip the staff brief? Brother. Yeah, right. Brother. Brother. Brother. Brother. Brother.
brother. I tell you what.
A three, brother. Trash six is out.
Just trash five here.
Oh, cool.
I went over the announcements.
Hey. Brother, your show. Brother, you drive, man.
I appreciate that.
Appreciate that.
I got one of these work time IPAs.
You know, we can't be cracking the cold ones when we're here at work.
But, you know, I call these sparkling waters.
These are my office IPAs, you know, business hour IPAs.
Brother, polar.
Poller's actually from Massachusetts.
Family owned.
I don't know if you know that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
they're actually out of mass.
There's actually a lot of good microbreweries, too, in Massachusetts.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, a lot of people, brother, they just think about Sam Adams.
That's right, brother.
First craft beer in the United States, brother.
Oh.
But if you were headed into Western Mass, you know, say Springfield, brother.
Oh, brother.
When you start smelling the pine trees, brother, brother, there's some.
That ain't a forest you're smelling.
That's a delicious brew.
They're brewing up over there.
Brother, don't miss the IPAs for the trees.
You know what I'm saying, brother?
That's what we've always said.
Yeah, well, I've never not.
Not said it, brother.
Anyway, brother, your show.
I don't want to step on your toes.
I know you got everything, brother.
If you need anything, I will keep sidebars to a minimum over here, brother.
Yeah.
And brother, sorry, Major's gone.
Oh, I don't think you're going to have a lot of interruptions, brother.
Oh.
Yeah.
Hey, hey, brother.
I spoke too much.
Brother, appreciate that.
Appreciate that.
That's great.
No problem, brother.
Like trash five alluded to you.
Okay.
Rules of engagement.
Okay.
right our rules of engagement for this meeting.
Sidebars to a minimum and keep,
hold on questions until the end,
obviously. Hold on. Let me get my watch over here.
Time hack real quick before we kick the brief.
Obviously, we're good. We're good war fighting organization.
Time hack. Okay. It'll be 59 seconds
until I've got 2111 on my watch.
Can I get, oh, brother, we're up.
Can we do Zulu?
My bet.
Yeah, brother.
Sorry, I just, I track 17 different time zones on my garment.
I just, you know.
I understand.
Okay, let's do, let's do one, three and, uh, 10.
Excuse me, bingo, but seven, six, four, three, two, one, hack.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Yep.
Hey, good hack.
Good hack.
Great stuff.
Hey, and all for those in the room.
sure we get chaps prayers on
on time. Oh yeah, brother.
Absolutely.
On the one MC, so I'm glad we're,
I'm glad we're packed.
Yeah.
Hey, for the, for the, brother,
brother, your show, not my brother.
For the,
for the inexperienced types of the room,
you'll notice he did not say the number five.
All right, that's a,
that's a naval tradition, right?
Okay, so like,
that's for all you young bucks
out there, you know,
that I don't understand,
you know, what it's like to be aboard
a naval vessel.
You've never crossed the equator without telling me, am I right?
You don't know the difference in a ship and a boat.
You're just here.
Port and store.
Okay. All right.
Let's kick this off.
S1.
I guess S1 is not attending the brief today.
I see they posted on their door.
They're out for training.
So S1 is out for training.
Whatever that means.
I'm not really sure.
They don't.
Brother.
They don't ever do anything all that well.
So it's like.
Brother.
Oh, are you reading 100 years of C-power?
I'm sorry.
I was just getting into the pubs.
Oh, brother.
Get fired up for the brief.
That's a great book.
Yeah, so Trash Five here real quick.
I just going to jump in for the one shop.
And for some of you guys, sometimes the five and the three just have to be the entire organization
because everyone else just fails.
And if you want to keep the CEO afloat, you just kind of handle stuff.
So I'm going to go over some quick stuff for the one shop.
if you've got a dependent, maybe a new dependent, and you want to get them added, right?
That may seem like a simple process to you to get a Social Security number from big government, right?
Not us, the Marine Corps, but big government, get a birth certificate from small government, you know, like maybe the city,
and to just walk into an admin shop and say, hey, here's the two documents that are needed.
And some of you guys are trying to get smart with it.
You're calling ahead and you're saying, hey, listen, just because you're a major, brother, I'm a major.
Just because you're a major, you don't get special treatment in an admin shop.
And you're calling ahead and you're saying, hey, I had a baby.
I have the Social Security number and the birth certificate.
I'd like to come in and get him registered.
And that Lance Corporal is busy.
Okay.
Whoever answered the phone, he doesn't have all day to just sit around.
for 0-4s.
So he's not going to prepare anything.
He's not going to locate the documents that might be necessary.
When you get to his office, you are still going to go to the window
and you are going to sign in a green monster logbook
and sit your butt down because this is admin.
And you're going to watch that devil dog drink a Starbucks extra large
frappuccino style drink.
get up, walk past you, go to the head, come back, call you in,
and then not be able to find the form that needs to be filled out.
Now, he will go into the Everything folder.
He's got a folder on his desktop called Everything.
He'll click on that.
The form he needs will not be in there.
So then he'll go into the folder that's named on his desktop,
everything else that's not in the Everything folder.
And he will search in there.
And when he doesn't find it there, he'll start looking for past emails.
And finally, he'll find the form.
It'll be all filled out for someone else.
You'll see all their PII.
But he will methodically tab by tab delete the old information.
And after about 32 minutes of sitting in his chair, he'll be ready to fill out that dependent form with you.
brother
am I telling the group anything wrong
it sounds like it sounds like they've been doing
some good training there in the one shop
yeah they're doing a lot of great training
they really got it all figured out
they're not they're not open for four hours a day
they got Starbucks pumping through the veins
yeah
and they got their files clearly organized
and like
oh they got a full of their rules
It says everything.
Yeah.
So it's all in there.
It's in there.
Everything is in there.
What could they have forgotten?
Everything's in there.
Anyway, I think that's it for the one.
The numbers are bumping.
I left the admin shop today confident.
Oh, yeah.
They got you.
We are a coherent warfighting organization.
They got you.
Yeah.
Anyway, brother, back over to you.
Sorry, I'm sorry I had to cover down for the one.
The lieutenant's, um, he's actually at our Red Sox celebration party.
I guess they made the playoffs.
So he's out.
Good.
Good.
Good.
right, you know, okay.
That's right, the major's got it.
The major's got, the field grade's got it.
You know, we run the organization.
Yeah.
Okay, I'm all brief for the two shop then real quick.
I mean, it's your show anyway.
Yeah, yeah, appreciate that.
Appreciate that, brother.
I stumbled, you know, I like to get my, my source,
open source intelligent from multiple open sources.
I'm here at the Strait of Hormuz,
or Hormuz Strait Monitor.com.
they're also reporting closed.
Brother, have you been to War on the Rocks?
War on the Rocks, brother.
Good sight.
Good sight.
I was thinking, hey, sidebar, real quick.
Go for you.
Everyone else, earmuffs.
Maybe we could do like war on the hops.
War in the hops.
Oh, brother.
Brother, you crack an IPA.
You start talking about current events.
I think it'd be a great blog.
We can tie in.
We can tie in Klausowitz.
We can tie in Jomeney.
We can bring lucidity.
You want to talk some Corbett?
I mean, wars are fought on land, but they're not really fought on rocks.
Yes, right.
They are fought with IBUs high.
Yes.
So just an idea.
Anyway, I digress.
That's great.
Okay.
So, no, I'll track it.
They got a lot of good metrics on this site.
I like, I like tracking different metrics.
I like the data, right?
You take the data, you sense, and then you make sense of the data.
And that's really what I'm big.
That's I'm big into it.
Right.
So they've got duration of the closure, 207 days,
hours and 18 minutes. I think that's that's great data right there. They got all sorts of things.
So about throughput. Four trip, four ships have transited in the last 24 hours. You know,
that's that's critical information, right? I'm thinking, you know, four ships, okay, like how much
trash is that? What's a ship worth of trash? You know, that's all we're thinking about.
And I'm just thinking sea power. I'm thinking the effects of a blockade.
Yeah. Name any war. I mean, you just think when you think, when you think,
I think Mahan. Anyway, brother, go ahead.
So I just want to bring that into the fold, right?
Add that tool to your toolbox out there for all you company grades, right?
You're building your toolbox, right?
Add that tool into your toolbox.
Okay, okay.
All right, we'll move it on to S3 ops.
Hey, again, we published the schedule for the Tracker Working Group.
Okay, we got Tracker Working Group immediately following.
this brief. We've got it blocked off for four hours in the conference room, not this conference
room, but the one that's downstairs that has no air conditioning, no windows, no airflow.
Real quick, Trash Five here for the working group three is talking about. Super important.
We have a general coming. So no book bags. Absolutely no book bags. You can bring your laptops,
your water sources, your pins, your notebooks.
you can bring your Zins.
They're not a sin.
You can bring all of your stuff,
but you're not allowed to put them in a bag.
And also, it's bad.
It's bad as you do to kind of put stuff in your cargo pockets.
So just carry everything in your hand.
Do not bring a bag.
We don't want any bags.
And bags cannot be dropped off in the lobby
outside of the conference room
that has no windows and no air conditioning.
We don't want the general scene
a bunch of bags there.
So no bags.
Remember decorum is key.
We have always said peace through strength and decorum.
So no bags.
Anyway, sorry, jump on to this.
That's great.
Hey, great stuff.
Great stuff.
Just a caveat off of that.
Okay, if you're confused on what to bring, go ahead, consult your book bag packing list that we distributed 72 hours ago.
Okay, consult that packing list.
make sure you have it all on hand and literally in hand like you're going to hand carry it all of it
and then uh i'm getting word okay mass sergeant is giving me the the look okay yep and we're going to
have a gear inspection uh three hours prior to that brief um hey brother quick dubtail oh yeah please
just a quick quick double tell um nothing's allowed in pockets exactly but you need to in order
order to look like you are an officer ready to learn, you do need writing gear.
And laptops are authorized.
They just can't be in bags.
So that's my dovetail.
Standard.
That's great.
Yeah.
If we were to circle back, just remember nothing in the lobby.
That's right.
You know, stay clear of all debris.
That's right.
Okay.
Hey, that's good stuff.
That, you know, those are good.
Those are just rules of engagement for the meeting.
So, you know, let's just adhere to those.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah, nothing further for ops.
Let's go ahead, push you over to our logistics section.
I don't have trash five.
He passed any notes to you.
Yeah, he just said he's on leave.
He really appreciated sorry,
Murray Journal's work on giving him free leave.
So he's actually on free leave, which is funny
because he has about 30 days of excess leave that he's burning.
But it makes him feel better.
He's on free leave.
So for Joyer Vacation, he also said that medical is out.
He actually said they haven't been in for months.
He's just been covering for it.
Okay, okay. Same with dental.
I don't know if we had anything from Chaps.
Yeah, I think Chaps did drop a line in the via, obviously, on the high side, he came in,
secure comms.
We always appreciate that.
Chaps, he's no, he's no for.
Chaps.
Oh, yeah, Chap.
They're always, he's always on Sipper.
Yeah, he's always.
Iron Chaps.
Iron Chaps, baby.
Okay, yeah, we got Chaplin.
Chaplin checking in.
I have to be brief as I just got an emergency.
call for prayer.
Make my joy complete by being the same mind,
maintaining the same love,
united in spirit, intent on one purpose.
Do nothing from selfishness,
selfishness, or empty conceit,
but with humility of mind,
regard one another as more important than yourselves.
Philmpians 2.
Yeah, 2-2-N-A-S-B-1995.
We have one goal, secure the trash.
Secure it humbly and selflessly.
Chaps, always got good stuff.
Hey, chaps, appreciate what you do for the team.
I'm going to shoot them back a real quick, you know,
sipper email, obviously.
I mean, that's pretty much my communication.
If you're, if you're shooting stuff on the nipper.
Brother, if you want to send me to me for command review.
Oh, brother.
Yeah, I always got to get the good, you know, XO polish on it.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, just, you know, I'm the word.
Smith, you're the ops guy.
I'm the guy here to clean stuff up.
All right.
We had two more, two more outstations checking in.
Of course, we got John Kay out there.
Trash sex.
This is Colorado checking in.
Temperatures dropping.
Pumpkin spice lattes popping.
All secure.
Sector 7.
I'm impressed that you knew what PSL was because I saw that and I did not know what it was.
break from trash five character real quick.
I was like PSL, like petroleum.
Yeah, anyway. Hey, it's got
about,
patrols, security and logistics.
Like, that's what you do.
Hey, listen. I'm a folder's guy, brother.
Through and through.
Black coffee. One is none, two is one. One is none, two is one.
Yep. Nothing. Nothing like. Brian Peggroom,
Tenant Colonel.
Listen, there's a couple of Tenant Colonel's listens podcast.
I'm going to say a couple more than that.
But they probably know Brian Pagram, but I'm going to break from character from Trash Five.
Jeff Biggie now, I'll never forget.
At Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Brian Pegram, teaching fire support and saying,
there's nothing like waking up in the FTC, making a cup of coffee,
meeting a TOT on time, walking up.
out, four
a hotel goes off,
seven tonne windows
are shattering and you're just like,
yeah, I did
that. That's a paraphrase. Okay, don't
cite me on that. If you do cite
me, put it and turn it in. Yeah, to make sure
that my citations are correct. Proper format.
We use end notes here. Yeah. Something
along those lines. Yeah. Yeah. All right,
one more station outstation checking in.
You're an in-note guy? I'm a footnote guy.
Oh, we're big. We're big
end notes. Oh, yeah. Oh, brother. I'm a foot.
I'm a footnote guy.
Oh, man.
Yeah.
And no,
it's a,
Air University format,
which is essentially just Chicago,
MLA format.
Oh, brother.
Chicago.
Brother.
I'm all in.
Yeah.
All right.
Quick question,
brother.
Do you think that Germany ever
possessed a viable strategy?
Brother,
I've been thinking about that.
The first thing I think about
every morning when I wake up.
I do my morning,
do those,
you know,
a shower,
I should shower,
shave.
And then I just ponder that question.
I stare in the mirror.
Yeah.
Brother.
Yeah.
Go ahead.
All right.
And then last outstation checking in.
We got Shawnee Shepherd, aka Billy Martin,
aka Shawnee One More, aka Trash 69, checking in as I patiently stare out the window,
awaiting my order of the strength co plates to arrive.
Be alert and keep your head on a swivel as a new gym radar entry is forthcoming
once I acquire all prerequisite gear.
Oh, hell yeah.
Not to be, not to be confused.
Not to be confused.
You could, I mean, if he also, like, maybe like made sandwiches in his home gym,
it could be the first ever like dual purpose site, gym radar and chow radar.
You first.
Right, yeah, that's, uh, that concludes our brief.
Yeah, should we start the show?
I guess we should start it.
Yeah, why not?
I think it's a good idea.
Hit me with a lifting question.
Oh, lifting question?
So, yeah, our good buddy and producer, PJ, shot us this question.
Is starting strength alone enough to keep you fit and in shape?
Or do you need to add other things for well-rounded fitness?
Hey, guys, and welcome back.
Scrant Program from Strength Co.
And today we're going to talk about, is starting strength enough?
Can I just run this program of squats, presses, benches,
and deadlifts three times a week and be fit.
If you like the video, like and subscribe to the channel.
Well, I think my answer to that is yes,
but it is relative to the level of fitness that you are after.
If you are the average human being,
you work a desk job, you are a dad,
you, I don't know, you could work any line of work
and you want to be above average.
You do not want to look like soup in a shirt, right?
you want to look like you work out and do something.
I do think there's a lot of value in building your base.
If you haven't seen that video, go back and check it out.
But I do think that if you squat, press, bench, and deadlift three times a week,
and I'll cover this in a second.
But if you run that program, you will achieve above average muscle mass and be in above average
physical fitness standards.
Now, in order for that to be the case, you need to actually.
run the program correctly, which means you need to run it for four, five, six, seven months.
You need to add five pounds.
You need to eat enough.
You need to sleep enough.
And that will become very difficult.
It will become very hard to be compliant to run the program, especially if you have
competing outside life interests.
Maybe it's your job, your family, whatever, the stress you have in your life, it'll be
difficult to commit that amount of time to the program.
But if you do that and you get your squat to 300 pounds, you get your bench to 200 pounds,
you get your deadlift in the neighborhood of 400 pounds, you get your press over 100 pounds.
All these things are very achievable for the average body weight male of 170 to 200 pounds, right?
And if you're heavier than that, you're bigger than that, you're from Nebraska, you're a big,
strong guy, you could probably kick those numbers even higher. But if you are just an average body weight guy,
You need to run the program and get those numbers up.
Now, from that point, the question is, can I just do this program and have a good level of fitness?
And I would make the argument, yes, but there's a counter argument that's following.
The argument would be if you squat, press, bench, deadlift a few times a week, and the weight is actually heavy,
that is going to cause some cardiovascular stress,
that is going to cause enough stress to drive muscular or strength adaptations,
and that will be pretty good for a baseline of physical fitness.
But if you are, let's say, in the services, right, you're an armed services member,
well, hey, you're not going to go out and run a Marine three mile in a good time,
let's call a good time, sub 24 minutes,
right, sub eight minute miles,
with just squatting three times a week.
Now, I have, I'm the first person to tell you,
just squatted three times a week.
I've squatted three times a week for over 10 years now,
and there has been years where I have not done my run
for the Marine Corps at all.
I haven't opened the stride.
I haven't tried to, like, get my runtime down,
and I've been able to run eight minute miles.
And is that a good level of physical fitness?
Probably.
But if you're trying to peak these other areas outside of basic strength, you're going to need to put a little bit of work into them.
What I do think, and I believe this with all of my heart, is if you keep your strength baseline up, then it is much easier to peak these other things that you want to do, whether you're a jihitsu person and you need to have more stamina on the mat or you're in the military and you're, in the military, and you're,
You need to run a mile and a half for the Navy or three miles to the Marine Corps or whatever it may be.
If your strength level is high, I think in a shorter amount of time than if your strength level was low,
you can go and have better results at the specific thing that you are achieving.
I think that strength is the foundation of physical ability.
So if you get strong in starting strength, and I've set it over and over,
I can't think of how many times I looked at this camera and said this.
Starting strength is exactly what it says it is.
It's starting strength.
It's not finishing strength.
It's not the end-all, be-all.
But if you've never lifted weights, it is the place to start.
And I think that it is where everyone should start and ride the novice linear progression up.
And then when you've ridden it up, then you have to look at what are my goals?
What is my job?
What am I trying to do?
Am I a firefighter, policeman?
What are the physical capabilities that I need to do in day-to-day life?
and if you have brought your physical strength adaptations up,
then you can go and tailor it to what your needs are.
But to further answer the question would just be to say,
I do think if you're just a everyday human being
that has a job, has a family,
and wants to not be a, you know, sack of crap lying around the house,
else, I think if you ran the program starting strength, you'd be above average muscle mass,
be above average body composition, and you'd be above average physical capabilities. And I do
think that that is enough. And the counter argument to all that is, well, hey, I can't run a fast
three mile if I only squat, or I can't do 20 pull-ups if I only deadlift. And that is a good
counter argument. The rebuttal is if my strength base is high, then I can look at the requirements
that I need for whatever my job, my profession, whatever it is that I need to do. And if my strength
output is already hired, it's much easier to tailor it to that. And the last thing I would say is
don't get in the trap of becoming vastly overweight in the pursuit of more.
weight on the bar because then my argument falls apart. If you are chasing a 405 deadlift and you're at 300
and you are 510, 200 pounds and your answer is to just cookies and milk to the face until you're
265 pounds of body weight and you deadlift 400 pounds, you did achieve strength adaptation. You did get
stronger. But at the same time, you got to an unhealthy body composition in a way that now you
can't tailor to the specific needs that you want. I do think that the average person needs to gain a little
bit of weight when they run the starting strength and obviously linear progression. But I do think
you need to be careful. I do think that people can take that into excess and they find themselves
strong and they have data saying that they are strong. But now when they need to go do something, say,
run a 5K. Let's take it out of the Marine Corps lens that I look everything out. It's a 5K. You want to run
with your siblings for a turkey trot on Thanksgiving, but you're so, you've gained 30 pounds of
weight and a lot of it is fat tissue because when you gain muscle mass, you also gain fat tissue.
And now that becomes very difficult. So you do have to watch that when you're running that kind
a program you do need to eat a little bit in surplus as you first run the program to get strong
but you got to be careful that you don't wake up what day and you got a big old belly and you're
super heavy and you know now you can't tailor to those things you need to do hope this video helps
if it does like subscribe to channel we'll see you next time hither high water we'll get there great
stuff great stuff that's pretty accurate right yeah yeah big time yeah yeah
Two topics.
Counter-argument guy.
Two topics I wanted to hit quick.
We're relatively close to the staff brief because they're kind of like military-related.
First one.
I don't know if he's a like super, super-consistent listener, but I do know he has listened to two episodes in the past.
But I wanted to shout out Major Sat-Gram selection for command of 214.
Oh, nice.
Yeah, recently promoted to lieutenant colonel and then just found out today.
He's going to take another 214.
Yeah, thanks. He's a good dude.
I'm going to shoot him a text right now.
Yeah.
Good dude.
Zachary Graham, right?
Yeah, he's the man.
And then other one was, okay.
So last week, all right, so on Friday, I get texts from, from Grant here.
And just like, oh, happy birthday Air Force.
And I was like, oh, yeah, so I like, I was like, is it?
And I pulled up.
And I was like, wait a minute.
I have been around airmen all day.
Like we had like a lecture in an auditorium where there are a bunch of airmen.
Good thing you were around C man.
All right.
Hey.
That's on the weekend.
Wait.
And so I'm like, wait, no one has been.
It's like the end of the day we're like wrapping up and I like look at and like people are still in like our little classroom.
And I was like, hey, it's the Air Force's birthday.
And they're like, oh.
Oh, yeah.
I guess it is.
Did you really hear that for me?
Yes.
I mean, I know that I text.
literally no one no one had mentioned it all day like and there's you know it's great to be a
marine in that dude and then like it they think of a like a time that i was it was like we were at
at and me and me and sean shepherd are like we were trying to like print something out so
we like go to this little like computer lab thing that was on um for i'm sure everything worked
well it worked great it worked great uh and there's like a bunch of soldiers like sitting in there like
doing whatever their version of Marine Net classes are.
And we're like printing something out and then like,
I think they just call them Army.
Soldier Net.
Soldier Net.
And he like gets some email.
Like he's like checking his email and there's like something in there because he like
works on an Army base and he's like, oh,
it's Army's birthday or something.
Or like it had been like the week prior or it was like that day.
And he like says it.
And there's like two soldiers like literally sitting right next to us.
And one of them goes.
Oh, yeah.
I guess it was the Army's birthday.
And then like another one's like, wait, when's our birthday?
I don't need.
And I was just like, wow, the Marines are, we're very special when it comes to our birthday.
Do we dominate that?
I mean, whatever time zone I'm in and I have celebrated time zones on the Japan coast.
Oh, let's call the first island chain.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
I've done on the West Coast, on the East Coast.
done them in the Wes.
Dude, when I wake up, it is like people that were Marines 40 years ago.
And I am not, I want to be very clear.
I am not knocking that.
I appreciate it.
It is people that were four-year Marines got out, went on, did totally different things in their life.
And on that day, November 10th, there's no doubt in their mind.
I mean, if anything, we just.
dominate what could have been a fun Veterans Day celebration.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
It comes around.
I'm like, brother, yes, you was a ring corporation?
I don't even care about it.
I've been texting people all day.
Yeah, we dominated.
I saw an email from, well, my buddy saw it
from the Navy War College president that was happy birthday to our airmen.
And actually, similar thing.
And I know I have some Air Force classmates that listen to this podcast now.
they think it's absolutely ridiculous
in that I'm on a personal career of suicide
by holding a staff reef at the beginning of it
but I know that they listened to it
and it was the same deal
they did brother
when November 10th comes and I'm at the Navy War College
I'm bringing cake there's balloons
I'm going to rub it in whatever cohort
I'm in at that time in their faces
this is November 10th 1775
ton tavern baby
And then one of the people like made a comment like, oh, we'll get you a cake.
When it's like the Marine Corps birthday, I was like, oh, no, no, we're bringing you guys a cake.
Like there's already planned.
Like they're doing a thing.
And I was like, you won't be able to not know it's the Marine Corps birthday.
Even though there's only eight of us here out of like 400, like, you're 26 out of 300.
You'll know.
You'll know.
I had a military thing that popped in my.
my head to cover while you brought that up and now I forgot it.
If you want to keep thinking, I also threw in there.
I mean, I learned this from the Massonomics podcast that the Army updated their fitness test
to basically go back to the old version.
Tell me about that.
So they're now.
Wait, so no more Hexbar deadlift?
No, so I guess they're totally scrapping that.
And they're going back to pushups.
Two mile run.
It'll be hand release pushups, plank, and two mile run.
So very similar to what I did the Citadel.
So we did, it was 72 pushups.
Okay.
Was max.
So the Citadel, and this is 2006, 2010, but the Citadel's PFT was based off what the current army one was.
So 72 was max.
I think it was 100.
I'm going to forget this because crunches over time made me forget.
But it was somewhere around 100 sit-ups, not crunches.
Yeah.
And it was two-mile run.
running. Maxing was 11 minutes, which was, um, no, 1130. Someone can fact check me. It doesn't matter.
Yeah, I did sub 12 a few times. I never maxed it, but I did sub 12. But what was funny is that two
miles is much more doable to like get in that ballpark. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And also being 19 helps a lot.
It turns out it does. Yeah, it turns out. Turns out. Things are a little easy. Things are a little easy.
year when you're 19, at least when it comes to running.
I didn't know that. Interesting that it goes against
all of my war fighting teachings. Yeah, I thought it was very
interesting. Yeah. Yeah. So
what's it called on the APFT still? Great question. I think
Army fitness test. If I was gay, I'd know the answer.
I think Army fitness test. That's a joke, guys. Everyone
relax joke we're all brothers and sisters and arms oh hell yeah yeah okay did you ever wonder if
germany possessed a viable strategy for fitness test oh uh yeah brother i wonder what their fitness
test was uh well uh let's uh let's move on yeah segue next i don't even know if it's in the slides
but let's talk about writing papers.
Yeah, let's do it.
Oh, yeah, it's in there.
I feel like people might find that interesting.
And if I didn't put Lost Cat in there, it's probably worth the story.
Yeah, so we're asking about Germany because that was my paper topic, and I published it today and wrote it.
And I think we've talked in past episodes.
I know Jeff and I have talked in sidebars, but I think we've talked in past episodes that, like,
getting the writing brain going is definitely.
a different thing. But what I would tell you on top of that is riding with a gun to your head
is also a different thing. And so when you have an almost two-year-old and a newborn and a wife,
and so the, I don't know, guys that are married or have kids, I'll tell you something really
quick that you probably haven't figured out. The newborn and the almost two-year-old affect your
wife. Okay. It's like it's, it's, Clausowitz has a triangle. So do I. Yeah. It's called the Grant
Broggy.
triangle and it's like three magnets and you're trying to keep them all aligned and they're constantly
pushing each other away. So when you got to write a paper and that's your situation at home,
you have to find like, okay, this is what I'm going to go write the paper. And when you go to the
library, you can't actually just like go on to Instagram or start texting Jeff and Trey. You
got to like write. So I wrote, I went Sunday, I think around 9.30 in the morning.
and I wrote until around one, and I realized the paper was supposed to be like 32 to 3,500 words.
I was at 2,000 words I hadn't left my first argument.
I was like, oh, no.
I was like, whatever.
I'll clean it up later, and you just keep going.
And then, and I think this will be an interesting conversation in terms of like AI and stuff.
So I was like so like, I must write this.
AI policy here is pretty strict, but it's not anti.
It's like AI can enhance.
AI can improve readability, but like we don't want to move critical thought.
But as you're writing, you're reading these books, and you're opening this one and that one,
you're going in here and going in there, you're like, oh, I'm actually like learning a bunch of stuff.
And so I guess my question to you, Jeff, or my thought that is worth talking about is,
I think our generation is in a very unique position
or like you grew up without a phone.
You touched grass.
You did stuff.
You got a phone about the time you could drive.
Yep, yep.
Which made sense because it facilitated, you know, work and whatever.
But it was a, you know, flip phone.
Yeah, I think I had like 20 minutes a month or something like that.
Yeah, right?
No text messages.
Limited minutes. So you learn how to read. You go to college. You have a phone, but you don't have AI or even the ability of Google that we have now. Right. But you do have communication. You're able to text. And so you still have to learn how to write and cite and do everything. And then now, and I'll tell this, and you can publish this to the Navy War College and I'll stand by it. It's like,
I write my whole paper as I'm writing, I open parentheses, close parentheses,
saying I found this on this book on this page, like just grant citations, right?
Not Chicago, Boston style.
You know what I mean?
Just like, boom, found this at Finway.
But then, so then I finished my paper.
But what I'm not going to do is spend hours opening the Chicago manual style
and looking at like what hangs where and where the,
comma is. And so like that, I definitely am like, hey, here's all my citations, turn this into Chicago
style, and it's good, right? And I get good feedback. And here's my, here's my question. And so I get
like, boom, here's everything you got to do it. And I'm an, I'm an idiot. I know I could have
had a Claude agent. I know I could have taken those things and made him put it in the paper,
like in Microsoft Word, where I wrote, you know,
insert professor name, brief this day, slide seven, or this book name, page, whatever,
I would select all of it to delete.
Yep.
And then I would click references on Word, insert footnote, because we're big footnote guys.
And then I would copy paste what I had had AI do for me in terms of where it was supposed
to go and I would put it in.
finally i'll get to my question are we okay because we learned how to read and write and now have been given
tools and we can evaluate hey i know how to go into the chicago manual style yeah yeah and pull
this stuff but i do have an infant and a toddler and a wife at home in the best of the best of
use of my time right now is not to do that. It's still a good use of my time to get into the books
and read and learn and make decisions. But like getting caught up on citations isn't a good use
of my time. That's like my mentality. But is the younger generation just not even learning how to
write or how to think? I mean, I don't know. I mean, there's probably definitely impacting it.
I think that used to be it, like, that's a great way to use it.
Because it's like, there's no critical thinking for being like, okay, do I, is it, is it two spaces?
Okay.
Do I do one period?
Do I do the number, then the period, then the period, then the period, and then.
Yeah.
Outside.
And then if it's like, or the quotation, whatever.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Exactly.
I'm like, that's such a great way.
We, uh, they pushed here like this, it's called Zotero.
It's like a program and they like someone uploaded.
it all like the course documents or like the course materials into it. So like you basically
just click, hey, like I want to put a end note here. We're big end note people here. It's like big
air power thing. I'm a footnote guy. Yeah, C power. So you wherever you want your end note to be,
you click there. You click this like ad citation. You search in this little search bar like the
author and it'll pull it and you click that and it auto just like generates.
the citation for you.
So that's pretty nice.
So it's been, you know, that's sure some sort of AI.
But yeah, I'm like this, I don't need to spend time doing this.
Like this is such a tedious thing.
No, there's things that it's like, and it's also just interesting.
And I think you can speak to this.
And I don't think everyone's bored by this topic.
But it's also just interesting in like the school that we're in, right?
because we're, at least for me, I'm in multiple courses right now.
One of my courses is like the, you know, modern warfare.
On call duty, nice.
Yeah, the race, yeah, Grand Theft Auto 7.
It's the race to the AI frontier.
And you've got to be first and you've got to go everything.
And at the same time, I like have all these professors that were born in like 1870
that are like, you can't use AI.
You got to open the book.
And I like that.
Yeah.
I'm in.
But it's actually like conflicting.
Like there's there's one in my mind.
There's one style of the school or voice of the school that is like we got to be first.
We got to be the fastest.
I mean, it's my, the S1 shop brief today was real life.
Yes.
Right?
It was real life.
Yeah, I know you had a feeling.
But for the listener, I mean, I.
called the S-1 shop and said, hey, I had a baby. I'm short on time. I need to get them at as
dependent. Can you prepare what I need? What do I need to bring? And literally, the kid could
not find the document. And then when I got there, he finally found it. And A, I could have
solved 20 of those problems as I was watching. And I was in a good mood. I was like, I had a book
open, I'm reading, I'm like, I'm not going to get mad.
And then it's like a three time back and forth every time he printed the document,
taking it to his sergeant, and love the sergeant, love the sergeant.
The sergeant's like, this is wrong.
So then the kid has to go back out of the computer and go to, and everything could have been
a clawed device.
And I'm almost sad to say it.
And there's things that I have done in the Marine Corps that could
take me out of the picture. But like in this particular case, literally everyone in that office
could have not existed. I did have a great time talking to them and I did ask all of them where
they were from. And one of the kids was from Alaska. And so I asked him, he was from an Eskimo.
And then everyone looked at me weird. And I was like, no, that's, I can ask that, right? And they
were like, what? And then, yeah, anyway, I digress.
Yeah.
It's interesting.
It is very interesting.
It's interesting.
PFC beep.
I guess I docks him.
Jordy beep out his name when I said that.
PFC beep.
Was from Texas.
You can tell.
Do you hunt?
I was like, do you?
Yeah, you can tell.
Yeah.
Hey, top running song ever.
She did.
Auburn.
Auburn.
Auburn.
Auburn.
Auburn.
Auburn.
Okay.
And I'm like, do you hunt?
I'm like, I was like, you drive a truck, truck, don't you?
He's like, no.
I'm like, what do you drive?
He's like a Nissan.
And then, of course, is the off color major.
I'm like, what are you gay?
And they all looked in me weird.
And I was like, well, that's okay if you are.
I just was curious.
I'm allowed to ask.
And he's like, no, I'm not.
I'm like, okay.
and then I like start looking at his desk and he has like all these drawings I was like oh you're a gamer he's a big time gamer as a you're from Texas he's like yeah I'm like where he's like right outside of Dallas and well first he said east Texas then he said right outside of Dallas I wish tray was here huh I was thinking about trade the whole conversation I was like yeah okay yeah talk more crap about California yeah got it yeah anyway and
Oh, man. I'm glad we're making this a short-off.
I love a good one-shop trip.
They always, you always get more than you need.
You always get more than you need and, you know, come away with just more squared away than you when you're in.
And it's not even like they can click submit why I'm there.
They're like, oh, sir, the diary doesn't run for 72.
It runs every four Thursdays.
I'm like, brother, I have a $70,000 bill for my daughter being bored.
The Social Security card arrived today.
I'd like to get her added to.
And they're like, oh, yeah, sir, the diary and then I pack.
And then we have to, like, the systems don't talk to each other.
So then we have to physically hand carry it over to the thing.
And then we have to upload it.
And then the mass starting up at Division, he's got to certify it.
But then it comes back down to us and we recertify it as the unit.
And then it goes back up to the math.
It's great. It's great. I love bureaucracy.
Who are we? Let's see. Calhoun had a little adventure.
We're going right into that.
You want? We can go.
We can do college football.
Let's do college football. We'll talk to cat.
Because I don't want to leave you in tears going into college football.
Okay, okay, okay.
Bad week for all of our teams to include our.
our pseudo team, the LSU Tigers, Cajun Sar Major.
I'm not a big karma guy, but I was, and, and, Trey will listen to this.
He doesn't listen to the ones that we, that he's on, but he will listen this, but
it's a tough top five for me.
Oh, yeah.
Number one's clear.
There's a number one's clear.
I love watching Clemson Luce.
Texas A&M's in the top five.
Notre Dame's in the top five.
Ohio State's in the top five.
I don't know who my fifth team is.
And it probably depends on when the game cucks are good,
which rarely ever happens.
Yeah.
But it has happened in 30 years of fandom.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And it could fluctuate between Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, whatever.
Yeah, yeah.
But I got so excited when Texas A&M was losing.
And then South Carolina went up 16-0.
And I was like, oh, this is the greatest.
Texas A&M's going to lose.
I mean, and then the game cuxes folded like a cheap 10.
And I was like, this is because I wish they're on.
I did a post on X.
If you don't follow me on X, you should follow me in X.
If you want to see like the most about my life, I'm not, I Instagram some, but it's, I don't know.
I'm an ex-guy.
And I found a video of Old Miss frat boys singing some gay song about them winning.
But they were like dancing.
They're wearing like pink shorts.
And listen, I'm a Charleston, South Carolina guy.
And I'm a Newport, Rhode Island guy.
Like, I'm into Nantucket,
red, I'm into boat shoes.
Like, I approve those things.
But the way they did it was like kind of weird.
And so I just reposted it.
It was like Texas A&M behavior.
And it actually like went very well on X.
Like people were like, oh, yeah, because it was like,
who, pork another, whatever.
I got way too excited about A&M losing.
And I feel bad because I love Trey.
Trey, I love you.
I love you.
I'm so happy you're on vacation.
And that's why the Gamecox lost because I got too excited about A&M
I'm losing.
But yeah, it was tough.
I didn't see the Auburn game at all.
It was like the final score is not indicative of how not close that game was.
Like Florida was kind of clearly the best team.
Byron Brown is seems lost in the sauce,
which is weird because it's the same offense.
He's been running and he's with a lot of the same players at South Florida,
same head coach.
He just, yeah, I don't know.
I don't know. It ain't it. That ain't it.
And the defense was the real...
What was the final?
Like, it was kind of a weird score.
It was like 40-something to 30-something.
If I remember...
So they were in it.
They...
Again, like the final score makes it seem like it was close, but it was not.
Like, Florida kind of dominated.
They ran all over the defense.
Because usually it's like, oh, Auburn scores...
I think it was like 39 to 44 or something like that.
And it was like, oh, if Auburn scores 39, like, that should be a win, no problem.
But no, it was not close.
Yeah, 44 to 39.
So they called the Florida Georgia line.
That's exactly why they call it that.
And then L.S. Cajun started major.
He didn't make the brief today yet.
He's still at home, taking that loss pretty hard.
But, I mean, LSU lost and Trey just didn't call into the podcast.
He was like, I'm out.
that was rough
were you pulling for LSU
no I
I despise Laine Kiffin
and he's just a scumbag
I
actually think that
he it's I'm like the
good fellows
quote when it comes to
late like I'm the kind of guy
that roots for the bad guys in the movies
like
I don't like Lincoln Kiffin
and I do think he's a scumback
but I also am like, man, he has made so much college football about him that it's amazing.
Oh, everything is about it.
It's amazing.
And I hate Ole Miss.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
I'm pretty neutral.
I know.
I know where a McDonald list of this podcast, but I, I, please tell us you as gumbo.
What does old miss have?
They don't even, they're not even the rebels anymore.
they were still the rebels maybe aren't they wait like i don't know what they are i know like they're like
yeah i forgot because they're like the land sharks and then they're like the the rebels but they're
like their mascots tony the bear or land shark yeah and it's like huh yeah anyway um yeah i wanted lane to win
okay i mean it was it was a great game like oh yeah dude too
such great. It's also great that he lost.
Like in the players, like pointing at them.
It was great. But yeah, no, I wanted to lay.
I want him lane to win. I mean, I want L.
I'll shoot a go tagos.
Go taggers.
Go taggis. That's what true.
We'll see. We'll see what happens.
Should we go into this week?
Let's do it.
Do you want to start with the most exciting game of the week?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Game of the week. Kick it off.
Citadel plays.
Chattanooga.
at Johnson Riley Stadium, 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 26. The mocks are good team historically
kind of have become a rivalry for us ever since App State left. Not that we've been great.
Battle of the Seas. Both have seeds. They beat us last year. Yeah, they beat us last year, 31 to 7.
They're pretty good. This year, they beat Wofford. We got blown out by Wofford.
So it's not looking good.
I want our coach to be in the hot seat
because he wears a T-shirt to press conferences
and I have a problem with that.
Yeah.
Especially at a military school.
And you're in the South too.
Like, nah.
Like, you're in the South.
People, fans dress up football games.
You're at a military school.
Everyone in the stands wearing a uniform.
And you wear like an underarmie t-shirt to a game.
It's not a good look.
Yeah, I'm not a fan.
I don't like Maurice Straden.
He's special teams coach, a failed special teams coach at Green Day.
And yeah, I'm not a fan.
I'm actually, I'm not, how do I put this?
I'm not Nick Flintes in America where I want America to lose to get a new regime.
Like, I still want to sit a little win.
Yes.
But I don't think this is the guy.
But anyway, Chattanooga.
and knowing
Maurice Drayden
I mean this is a problem
he'll win like four games a year
and if you looked at the schedule
you would have picked
the other eight games for him to win
and these were the four he was supposed to lose
so who knows what will happen
but yeah that's the game of the week
Citadel versus Chattanooga
2 p.m. and Saturday
ESPN unlimited
make sure
tuned in and watching
hey
you
you better buck
up for that game. Everybody.
Whole country's going to be watching.
I'm excited.
All right.
All right.
Should we get into, well, let's see.
Who's South Carolina?
It's time for Tray.
All right.
Trey, kick us off.
Let's start with
Texas A&M.
Who are the Maggie's got?
Them boys from College Station.
Aggies have LSU.
Oh, that's right.
They got a buy week.
They got a buy week.
Okay.
They're playing the 26.
Wait, no.
Wait.
No, no, no, no.
We're four days from Tuesday.
Today's Tuesday.
Sorry, baby brain.
Yeah, they play LSU.
Number 10.
Man,
as much hate as I put on,
I'll make my pick first.
As much hate as I just made about Texas
and then that Trey would probably hate me for.
I actually feel bad for them.
Because I feel like LSU will win this game
because they have to.
Yeah, both teams are coming off a loss
and both teams are going to be out to avenge it.
Sad at LSU.
I will say, I'm not impressed with the LFSI's offense
other than that running back, that number 13.
I don't know, dude.
Without that pick, they win that game.
Or they take it over time.
Sam Levitt doesn't have that their big tight end
is out for a while.
And I don't think any of those other receivers are any good.
I don't think Sam Levitt's all that great through the air.
but I think it's at Tiger Stadium
I gotta go out
I gotta go out of it
no I'm going to A&M
I'm not confident
but
that's a I'm good
that's a tray pick
so you know what
I'm going A&M too
I'm going A&M too
try to get some good karma back
I see I see
yeah
no no no
that's your real moire okay
it's from the heart
Auburn's got
Vanderbilt
Auburn
Auburn
Auburn
I don't
I don't know what to think about
Auburn
I don't know the thing about
Vanderbett
I don't either
One saving grace is
it is at Auburn
so it's
I got to go historical here
I'm a Mahan guy
I'm a sea power guy
which for me, I'm a Tennessee Navy guy
but they're on the game. But I just think
Auburn historically beats
Vanderbilt and I think Auburn beats Vanderbilt.
Okay. I think it's sort of like, this is like the
last chance for a while. Vanderbilt beat
NC State, right? And that stupid play by
yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, dude, give me Auburn all day.
That was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. That was
I, uh.
That was the wildest.
ending to a game.
They could have taken a safety in one.
Yeah,
give me Auburn all day.
Auburn by two touchdowns.
I love it. I love it.
Yeah, I think this is their last chance
to get a win for a while.
Because after Vanderbilt,
they go at Tennessee, at Georgia,
LSU at home,
at Ole Miss, Arkansas
at home, which is, that's easy.
Then Mississippi State, yeah, it's me.
Say it's easy now.
It's going to be rough.
So I got to pick Auburn.
I think this is made our last win for about five weeks.
Okay.
So let me jump into these.
South Carolina.
Oh, yeah.
Game Cots, baby.
Ooh.
So here's my thoughts.
My initial thoughts are Alabama.
Okay.
But.
But.
Stephen Garcia just had all of his colon cancer removed today.
September 22nd.
Yes.
Six weeks of chemo.
came through.
I've seen that the surgery's over and the outset is good.
He beat number one Alabama in 2010.
Okay.
How could we lose?
He just beat cancer,
so now it's the time to beat Alabama, baby.
We'll do it for number five.
I'm big time number five.
I can never pick against the Gamecocks.
But I do kind of think that Alabama's going to win.
They might.
They're, yeah.
I mean, I think this whole, like, they've started slow pretty much every game.
Maybe it comes to bite him in the butt one of these times, and they, like, start slow, but they can't ever get it going.
And maybe Lenora's sellers puts the glasses back on.
Dude, if he just wears freaking glasses.
Easy fix.
And turn his helmet around so the visors in the front instead of the back.
If he would just, like, literally, bro, you're supposed to look.
through the visor. The visor's not
neck sun protection. It's for your eyes.
Yeah, he had
some bad passes. It was rough.
The GameCuck game was
yeah, it was rough.
I don't know. I'm a Gamecock
fan, though. Although I did see a tweet that
kind of woke me up.
The guy was like,
I was born in
1982.
What did I make him?
44?
Yeah.
Depending what month.
He was born in 1982.
I spent
every Saturday of college football
worrying about this team.
And for what?
Our good seasons
and we had three 11-1 seasons under
Spurrier and I lived him.
He was like, we didn't even win anything.
I feel like
there are a couple like tweets or
posts like the same vein yeah there's a ton and he's like what what am i doing and i kind of i don't know if
it's because i have kids now or what but for the first time my life i was like and i also watched a lot
of stuff maybe it's just on my feed because i'm in newport rhode island but it's where it's like i'm from
new england and for the first time of my life i'm realizing that college football is better than
NFL Sundays.
It's like so much better.
I don't know, dude.
I'm a Patriots fan.
I'm like, so you like losing?
You like, but that's my, that's my vantage point, right?
Yeah.
And I'm just like, uh, just picked the right team.
Yeah, true, true.
All right.
What else we got on there?
I will say it's pretty good slate of games, though, overall.
Yeah, Texas, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida.
Iowa, Michigan.
I got Tennessee on that.
Rocky top.
Okay.
Oregon is going to sell out
the Coliseum at USC or
sorry, Southern Cal.
Yeah, thank you.
Because I don't think any of the Trojan fans
are going to show up. So all the Dux fans are going to come down
from Eugene to fill that stadium up.
And then Missouri and Mississippi State.
So a bunch of ranked matchups, especially
in the SEC. So that should be
good slate of games.
Is Mississippi State ranked now?
They are now. I think they're 24.
I got
Missou. Okay. Okay.
Who you got?
I'm going Mississippi State.
I wasn't, I guess. I think maybe this square.
I got to know for real.
So we shall see.
I think I got to go to Texas.
I don't know.
Texas and that Texas versus Tennessee,
the battle of the UTs.
Arch is in his head now, man.
He apologized to Holly Road.
Oh.
I didn't like that.
I didn't either.
I didn't.
I thought his comment.
How big a deal you made out of it.
I'm like,
this is nothing.
Right.
That's what I mean.
But I just thought that like,
dude,
when you're 19
and a reporter asked you,
like a grown adult reporter
asked you a specific question.
Like sets you up for that.
I actually didn't like that he apologized.
I actually thought less of Peyton Manning, who I like, because I assumed that they conversed about it.
Which I respect, I respect, but I'm just like, I don't know.
I think I would have told my son, which I don't have, but I would have told them,
just say, hey, I'm a 19-year-old college student.
I thought it was funny.
It's okay.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Yeah. Holly Roe, man, Holly Roe, it's really, Holly Roe.
I mean, I get Holly Road 10 years.
Oh, dude.
15? Like, I feel like we, I wouldn't say we grew up for her in,
in 2009, I like helped out in a Boston College Notre Dame game on the sideline.
And she was there.
She looks exact same.
I guess my point is, and I'm not even going to say anything.
mean. My point is
I don't know why it took
2026 for all of a sudden for
Holly Roe to start taking flack
because it was never
it was just
yeah she's Holly Row like that's
one of the people and now it's like
it's hilarious.
It's hilarious.
Oh man. They just got to get rid
of that whole like sound bite
from the coach after the gate or not
maybe not after the game. I take the cameras out of the
Exactly. Get the cameras out of the stadiums, you know?
Like, we don't even need to be broadcast in these things.
I know Trey won't like this, but I thought the Texas coach was a big win,
wanting to go talk to his team.
What is he supposed to do?
Gives the slogan, hook him horns, whatever it is, runs off.
I thought it was completely appropriate.
And I'm not even trying to be some kind of anti-Hollywood person.
but I thought I thought that coach's response was a natural reaction.
Big win, one, want to go to the team, hook him horns, run off.
Yeah.
And I think either the media or her, I don't know who did it, brought it themselves.
Because I'm like, she was disrespected.
Oh.
And now it's like, and then everyone like got mean about it where it was just like,
yeah, dude.
He just won a game.
And I think he's, he's.
I don't know how legit the story is, but allegedly at halftime,
they had like a bunch of technical difficulties and Sark like waited around like, you know, to see if they could get it figured out, see if they could get it figured out. I think maybe like didn't do a half time comment. And it's because they were like, hey, you know, he's like, I got to get in there. They're like, yeah, we get it. Get out of here. And then like same thing kind of happened where he was like waiting around for a little bit. And I think they're, you know, he was just like, all right, enough of it. Like, how long is this need to go for? Like, and then like he must have came on. He was like.
you know what, hook them.
I'm getting out of here.
You know what?
There's always more to the story, you know.
Or that could all be false and whatever.
Some Texas person on a message board made it up.
Biggest college game in the week is Texas, Tennessee, and we picked it.
So we're good.
Yeah, we hit the big ones.
Oklahoma, Georgia.
Oklahoma, Georgia's? Oh, dang.
And Ole Miss Florida could be good.
that's a good slate of games
oh it's just because we're from the south
that just means more
Iowa
Michigan talk about a Midwest
battle
give me six to
pick that one
I'm going Iowa I still don't believe in Michigan
I'm going Iowa too
I'm also going Oklahoma over number two Georgia
making it out
I'm going to pick Georgia for that one
But okay, make a note.
Make a note.
Make a note.
All right.
What other topics we got before we bring this thing down for landing?
This episode is brought to you by BW Tax.
BW.
Great guy better at taxes.
Talk to BW.
I honestly, I talk to BW almost every day.
He does appreciate when you guys call him.
You guys keep the lights on.
Actually, his lights are always on because he's tax guy.
So he's just always doing taxes.
But he does appreciate it when he gets emails,
text, phone calls, and somebody makes an okay podcast reference. And he always makes the joke to me of like,
oh, I have to like turn on the okay and turn off my professional CPA voice and then realize like
this is actually professional because I'm getting business from this. So BW. Tax appreciates it.
This podcast also brought to you by Mr. Helmut, Green, Gridiron, Gridiron, Green.
Pays this good money every week for us to do this podcast. You can get.
get a helmet. We recommend a helmet with no visor in glasses. That is our updated approach,
particularly for the Norris sellers. Glass is on, no visor, no thing from seeing people downfield.
But you can get a helmet, you can get a custom helmet, and the Navy helmet's back. So if you're a
Marine fan, a Navy fan, a military fan, maybe your son's in the Navy and you want to get a little
helmet to put on your desk, click the link in the show notes, take you to Green Gridiron,
just type Navy in the search bar once you get to their site and you get yourself a Navy helmet.
Yeah, those are our sponsors.
We're super glad we have them.
Love me.
I had one topic real quick.
It's Fat Bear Week.
Have you ever heard of Fat Bear Week?
No.
Sounds like a polar plunge.
It's sure.
There's a national park up in Alaska and like they monitor.
basically like all like the grizzly bears in the park what are they Ascomos yeah they're
Eskimo run park uh and I guess this is you know bears are they're they're bulking this is
bulking season for the bears because they're going to go hibernate I think it's bulking season for everyone
it's always bulking season yeah run starting strength right now and so they basically then
uh track all these bears as they fatten up for the hibernation and then
this website goes up and you vote for your favorite fat bear of that week.
And so you go on.
And it's currently down for vote.
Like you can't vote right now.
It must be run by the government in like the online voting or like the appellate.
The appellateau is open.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, it's run by the straight of four moves.
Like people also run the fat bear week.
Okay.
Got it.
So they've dedicated a lot of bandwidth to the straight of four moves website and not as much
bandwidth, both, you know, actual and mental bandwidth.
to the fat.
Yeah, because they're different.
They're different.
They're different.
Yeah, you have your physical.
Yeah, you have your physical bandwidth and you have your fiscal bandwidth and then there's
a calendar bandwidth and then your mental bandwidth.
Yeah.
And it all goes to Toledo.
Come back to.
Every.
Yeah.
That's the problem with the internet is it all runs through Toledo.
But yeah.
So, but if you're into fat grizzly bears, just like search.
Did you vote on?
I was trying to.
haven't been able to
it's really just stressing me out
Fat Bear
Week but yeah my wife's super
into it she loves Fat Bear Week
So his bears get chunky
Oh wow yeah
Units this is cool
Why does this website look like it's from 1990s?
I think it is because I have
Okay
Oh voting is ended
Oh okay maybe just for this
Yeah I don't know
Maybe I missed it
Meet the Bears of Fat Bear Week
Some large ones.
September 22nd.
Wow.
Big deal.
Big deal.
That's cool.
Man, fat bears look good.
They're like fat cats.
They're just crushing salmon.
It's all they're doing.
Basically, they're conservation.
Well, they're not quite conservationists because it's not catching release.
They're preservationists.
But they're also like, you know, nose to tail kind of approach to how they eat their catch.
So it's like, yeah, they're a sustainable.
yeah
yeah
so we appreciate
the bears
yeah
not the football
to talk cats
let's talk cats
um
I'll try to make this brief
because it's a brief
brief
uh
all right
where do I start with this
you're a cat guy
big cat guy
a big cat guy
like you understand the importance
okay so here's the deal
Cal I got two cats
Calhoun and Wayland
often called Calhoun and Willie
because for some reason my
almost two-year-old daughter calls Waylon
Willie and
when she makes my sister-in-law call him
William. So his name's
I can bastardic and
bastard. But I got
I got two cats. Calhoun
and Wayland. Calhoun's
my rider die. I got him in 2020
rescue
Maine Coon. He's 22 pounds.
If I were to hold him up right,
he's about almost four and a half feet tall.
He looks similar to a fat bob
cat. You've probably never seen a fat bobcat because bobcats don't get fat. But cats that
I feed get fat. But he's a heavy dude. He broke his leg. I used to let him outside of the house
in California. In California, there's a lot of coyotes. There's a lot of cars. But I was just
like, he's a cat. He needs to go outside. And one day he showed up at the back door with a broken
leg. And, you know, like three grand later, I was like, oh, I shouldn't let my cats out anymore. So in
California, we don't let the gats out a lot, came here and didn't put an air tag on them
because they didn't really let them out. And there's a whole thing with cats when you
displaced them far, Newport Beach to Newport, Rhode Island. You're supposed to leave them in a space.
They like make their domicile or the domain before we let them out. But for the last
couple weeks, I've been letting Calhoun out on the patio. I have like a courtyard. It's probably
better term.
If you've watched my lifting videos on X or YouTube, you see I have like a yard, so to speak.
It's all cobblestone, whatever.
I live in the whole section of Newport, Rhode Island.
And so it's all fenced in.
And so if you put him out, he just, he can't jump a fence.
He probably could like get on a patio chair, get on a tree, then get on the fence, but his
desire is not there.
Whereas if you let Willie out or Wayland, he would.
to bolt and jump and leave.
And he'd also probably come back because that's what cats do.
In any event, I've been letting the cat out.
So I let him out the other night.
I was doing some reading.
And he was in the patio.
And upstairs was a catastrophe.
Infant was screaming.
Two-year-old wouldn't go to bed.
Wife texts me, like, come help.
So I run upstairs.
I think I was putting Isabella to bed.
I can't really remember kind of like this podcast.
I didn't think this was going to happen.
I fell asleep before this podcast.
Anyway, I wake up the next morning,
and the first thing we do is we wake up,
and I say we, meaning me and my almost two-year-old next month,
wake up, we go downstairs, we change your diaper.
We give her leche.
That's Spanish for milk for you, white-type people.
We give her leche.
And then she says cats.
And we grab the cat food and we go to walk down to the cellar.
And as we walked down the cellar, Waylon runs down.
And I set my daughter on the laundry room washing table and I'm putting it in the two bowls.
And I'm like, where's Calhoun?
And I'm like, oh, crap.
I left him out.
So I put the thing down.
I'm not going to alarm my child.
I'm a, I'm a, my hand guy, you know, sleep power.
Yeah, so I put it down, walk upstairs, walk outside, do a quick glance at the courtyard.
He's not there.
Go back inside, deal with my daughter until my wife wakes up.
Then I go outside and I do like a real intense look.
Like, is he under the grill?
Is he over behind this hose contraption?
I'm like looking at everything.
He's not out there.
And I told my wife the day, I'm like, I'm going to the library at nine.
I'm going to treat this as a workday.
And I'm going to work on my paper.
So I go to drive the library at nine.
And I'm driving.
And I'm like, I can't go to library.
Like, I got to put signs up by my cat.
So I go to Walmart and I buy sheet protectors and a staple gun.
Then I go to the library.
And I make a lost cat sign with photos.
And I print them.
and then I'm like, you know what, Grant, you should work for an hour on your paper.
So I'm like, okay, I'll work an hour on my paper.
Three minutes later, I'm like, now you got to go put these signs up right now.
So I go back.
My daughter's like in her little car, still in her pajamas,
which my wife never allows her leaving her pajamas and we're going around in the neighborhood.
And she's like, Calhoun, where are you?
And she's shaking the treats.
And like that alone just makes you want to cry.
And I'm putting these signs up.
And neighbors are coming out like, oh, my God.
God, what a beautiful cat.
When did you last see him?
And someone's like, I saw a cat last night
at this time. And everyone's
signed everything and we're putting these signs up.
And I'm like, oh my gosh.
So put the signs up,
come back, do the day.
And then
I had this
deep feeling like he's going to come back.
He's not far. And I went
to my neighbor's house. I'm like, hey,
I like, can I
look around your yard?
and he's like, yeah, look around my yard.
I can't find him.
But I notice his back doors open.
And he has a dog.
And the one spot in the fence, if he were to go under,
and I don't want to take away my cat's abilities,
he's brought me a lot of sparrows in his life to go under a fence.
But I'm like, if there's one spot where he definitely go under,
and then there would be the house.
And then if you went in the house and found out there was a dog, he would hide.
So anyway, I'm.
looking for him all day and about 7, 8, 9 p.m., I'm starting to be like, oh, man,
like, is he coming back?
Yeah.
Like, you know, and I'm outside with a flashlight.
The internet's telling me to, like, have a flashlight on because they hide close by
and you'll see their eyes.
So I, everyone goes to sleep and I put his litter box outside.
I put a canna open tuna on the front of the house and the back.
of the house. I put like dirty underwear mine. Sorry. This is a fact on the front of the house
in the back because they say put like stinky clothes with your scent in the front of the house in the
back of the house. Go inside and I'm trying to read about what we're two and I leave both doors open
with the screen door shut and the screen doors like seal and about and I fall asleep.
I fall asleep about 2.15 in the morning. Diana comes down holding a newborn.
she's like, Calhoun's here.
And I like, wake up and like, he's, oh, he's here.
So we have like a moment of volation.
And then I look and he had like tore the front screen.
Didn't get through the torn part.
But then basically the front screen door, it's a door.
But it has like clips, you know.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
And the screen in the door can come out.
And he had like pushed one of them out.
Hey, mass moves mass.
mass. And he came back in the house and he's home and he's great. And it was it was a thing,
man. It was, it was, it was, it was, it was, yeah, it was the loss gap thing was, it was, it was perfect
timing. Oh, it was the best time. I couldn't think of any better timing. Paper dude,
newborn wife, two-year-old. But yeah, you know what? You know what my dad needs? My dad needs a little
electric stress in his life.
Yeah.
I'm glad he's back. I'm glad he's back.
He had me too.
And he came back clean.
It's not like he
like, dude, I went.
I was in like, that's tough.
The doors I knocked on.
I was in people's basement.
I was like, hey, I know you don't think there's a cat down here,
but can I go in your bulkhead looking?
And they're like, uh, yeah, sure, I guess.
Yeah, it was the whole thing.
Anyway,
brother.
A little adventure.
All right, brother.
We hit everything?
I think we did.
I feel good.
Trey watched movie pressure on the plane.
Trey really messed up the slide deck.
Yeah, I got a little wonky.
He got a little monkey.
You basically don't read anything above
Lost Cat, I guess.
Yeah.
Okay, so off the dome.
as an air power
war college guy.
Did Germany ever possess a viable strategy in World War II?
You know, my mind immediately goes to the Luftwaffe, you know,
and their strategy.
Air power, baby.
You know, and just let me...
The bomber, it always gets through, and I don't know if they knew that.
Be very specific.
The Luftwaffe is the German Air Force.
I didn't know that seven days ago.
Oh, they learned something new every day.
Yeah.
Yeah, so...
I think the answer is yes.
Ooh.
And I wrote my paper as no.
Ooh.
I like that.
Turned the map around on yourself.
Well, my counter argument was really strong, in my opinion.
I think if Germany not saying their aims,
Claudezian style were correct.
But I think when they took France and Poland,
if they had just paused a year and stabilized Europe,
because they crushed France and Poland.
They just stabilized Europe for, I don't know, six months a year.
I'm whatever.
I'm a major.
I'm not a genius.
But incorporated their industrial power and just waited to go into the Soviets.
And I also think the Soviets, the manpower there, they were able to pull in was, I mean, it was never.
ending. It was just like, we'll just keep pulling people in. But I think if they had stabilized
Europe, it's possible. But I also think the Americans are the baddest ass country on the planet.
And when they were fighting in the West, I mean, that's why I don't think,
I posted something on X about this. And people were like, Russia kicked Germany's ass.
and I'm like
yeah they did
but only because
Germany had to deal with
America
yeah
yeah
it was an interesting war
hell yeah
yeah
have you written a paper
you must have done
seven papers
10 papers
four yeah
what's your favorite topic
um
we
we haven't really like
talked about stuff like y'all have it seems like
it's different
yeah it's interesting it's like
what was our
our military theory like final
was like hey take
MCDP1
and look at the theory of war
section or the theory of war chapter
and write a version
of it and like or you each
you got put into groups
and then each person would pick two topics
and you'd go, you know,
you'd pick either like war as a means of policy,
means and war, spectrum of conflict,
yada, yada, yada. Any of those like sub-
sections of the theory of war,
pick two of those and you'd write the Air Force's
kind of like version of it.
Interesting. So it was interesting, but like,
so it was like, okay,
do we write it like doctrine? But they're like,
no, it's like an academic thing.
But it's like, so it kind of like
was like a blurry line.
of like, am I supposed to be like writing doctrine or do you want me to like be citing all these like
military theorists that we've been studying about and like which so would you end up doing?
I did combat power and initiative and response were my two. And did you write it as doctrine?
I tried like our like instructor had specifically told us like hey keep it is like high level as possible
like something they could apply to like all airmen so i kept it pretty broad in terms of like the
the way i was like approaching it where it's like i saw some of the people's like stuff where they were
like very i don't know tying it to like current event stuff and things of that i'm like i don't think
that would be like to i don't know so we'll see what happens when the grades come out i think i think
i don't know i liked it it it was kind of a fun thought experiment in some ways
uh thought experience well it's a guy up in the air do you want to take that
Pissing down for landing.
Oh, I see what she did there.
Yeah, a bomber always gets through.
It always gets through.
And then when it gets through, it comes back home and it has to land.
I get it.
