All right, and welcome back to episode 0129 of the OK podcast.
Power by the Strengthco.
I am your host, Grant Brogey, Auburn, Auburn, Auburn, Auburn.
All roads run through Toledo, but I'm going to rock my Boston hat tonight
because the Red Sox are in a do-or-die situation.
They're in a do-or-die situation, which is what happens.
I got to let the Yankees fans have been twerping me all day.
when you're in a best of three series and you lose the first game,
yes, you guys are correct.
It is now a do-or-die situation because if the other team wins the second game,
series is over.
I know that's tough for all the Yankees fans in the Yankee Stadium.
As I look out at the fans, just seems to be a bunch of male-gay couples,
which is cool.
Glad you guys are enjoying the Yankees is watching that.
You know what's not in a do-or-die-die situation?
Price of Bitcoin, $83,500.
$40.
Today's date is, sorry,
you know, we're not in a woke environment anymore.
We can say what we want.
Today's day of September 30th and the year of our Lord, 2026.
Yeah.
And we're recording on a Wednesday.
Wednesday for you Texas type, speaking of Texas,
joining us from Grand Prairie.
Close.
Is there a Grand Prairie?
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah, they might have some combat.
power over there. They got a couple of combat powers. They got a little bit of combat power.
Granbury, Texas, father of three, three under three. Are we still three under three under three?
Three under three. You've always said that. Next year, it'll be four under four. Am I right?
Because I know you just went on your 10 year anniversary. So anything's possible.
Yeah. Okay. I did. I don't put that on you. I did the math. Four under four is possible.
anything is possible.
We're all rooting for that.
For Mr. Trey, Gotledge, Marine Corps
logistician, best one we ever knew.
Somehow got the MLS designator, 0802.
We don't know how he snuck that as a logo.
He's been an admin typo.
Yeah, something weird.
But we're glad he's here also in a drilling status,
technically not in a drilling status,
but in a drilling status.
It actually gets really confusing.
Yes.
But working as a Marine, so therefore,
we have to be respectful about everything we say about the government from the greater salt
lake city area joining us live from montgomery alabama everyone's favorite war colleges in montgomery
it's true when they look at all the different places you could go as a major or lieutenant colonel
to go to pb most people they don't even put the pin in utah and draw it out they just put the
pin in alabama and say where's the closest college send me there yeah and they end up in montgomery
Major Jeff Bege
Biggie.
All the best officers
about Alabama.
Oh,
yeah.
He is one of two
of something called
the killer bees,
which we'll talk about
their origination once again,
one of two of the killer bees.
Joining us from Montgomery,
Alabama.
I'm coming to you live
from Newport,
Rhode Island.
You know, you could hang around
Newport.
You could go up
and visit Plymouth of the Rock.
You could come down.
You can see the Rochambeau statue, and you might start to think for a second, you know what, the
Revolutionary War must have been won here.
But as a guy that just took nine months to find out, finally figure out how to pay property tax
in the state of South Carolina to get a new license plate, that new license plate says the Revolutionary
War was won here.
So let's not forget Francis Marion.
I know a lot of these academics want to get you spun up on Klausowitz and Corbett, Mahan,
the swamp fox baby swamp fox that's where revolutions are made in one that was long before
the alamo i know we like to remember that but remember the swamp fox that's what i've always said
is that mill gipson uh well mel gipson and the patriot plays about six characters kind of morphed into
one but yes one of them is mel he has a swamp five he also plays jesus so he's he's he's
different movie though different movie not it's not he didn't uh yeah yeah he didn't uh yeah he's
Well, don't get me started about Jim Carrival.
Okay, look at that pop culture reference.
Also, we got to talk this thing,
Star Wars, mind-blowing, mind-blowing.
Literally, I, we'll put that in the slideshow.
We'll put a pin in that one.
We're glad you're here.
Let's put that in a bucket.
I got some buckets.
We got a many buckets.
Just like you have many hats.
So we got a lot of slides.
And when we get the slides, just view every slide is a bucket.
we can talk to other things from a bucket.
Buckets talk to other buckets,
but it's not a sidebar if it's in a bucket.
So it's authorized, but we'll talk about that sooner.
Is this a school?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, there's buckets.
Well, I'm pretty sure you had learned about buckets in schools, too.
You can take a hose, put it in a bucket, turn the water on.
There's a hole in my bucket.
Trey Gottlitch, Trey Gottlitch.
Don't you sing that to your kids?
and then in that hole, that's where you put the hose,
and then that runs the water to the other leg.
Let you hold.
No, that's what I sing to my daughter.
And then I say, well, mend it.
Jeff Biggie, Jeff Biggie.
And my daughter's like, who are these people?
I'm like, one day, you'll be like,
Dad, can you YouTube pass on that?
Yeah, when you listen to the entire back catalog
of the OK podcast, child,
only 129 episodes.
This episode is brought to you by BW Tax.
BDXX, great guy, better at taxes.
We make a joke that tax seasons all year,
round it's not a joke it's reality but here we are it's we're in a new fiscal year okay guys
yeah there's a fiscal year and there's a physical year by the time that this uh podcast airs will be in a
new fiscal year uh and then when the fiscal year happens it's like marine corps robin
thanksgiving christmas veterans day Columbus day i didn't do that in order but you know what i mean
all of a sudden, you know it's the physical year.
So if you really looked at the amount of time Marines have off
from the start of the fiscal year to the start of the physical year,
tax season's basically tomorrow.
Okay, so it comes quick.
So, you know, it's like when you see the Christmas trees up in Home Depot,
you know Thanksgiving's about to happen.
Okay.
So we know the rapture's coming soon for those dispensationalists out there.
But anyway, I agree.
This podcast is also brought to you by Mr. Helmet, Green Gridiron, Grid, Iron, Green.
I'm holding the Marine Corps helmet from the Navy game with a visor in 2022.
I believe this game was played.
They had some licensing issues, but they just got the Naval Academy and the Marine Corps licensing back.
Oh, what's that one, Trey?
You can go and get yourself a helmet.
Trey, describe that beautiful helmet to the listeners that might not be watching on YouTube.
Is it a Pittsburgh Steeler helmet?
No.
Wait, what is that?
Oh, the world famous Border Patrol helmet.
Do you have an ice helmet?
No.
We'll see if you can get, we can get you on.
I bet we can make it happen.
We know a guy.
We know a guy.
A lot of exciting things to talk about today.
We are listening to it live as the Red Sox play the Yankees in a do-or-dye game.
That shows our commitment to you, the listener.
if I'm ever looking to the left and not really speaking,
it's because I'm watching the game.
Trey's going to do a workout this episode.
Are you already in your workout of tire, Trey?
No, no one responded.
I assumed absence.
What's the saying?
Silence is consent.
Was that a maybe not the joke to.
I think we've always taught that.
Like, hey, am I cleared hot?
Silence.
Consent.
I'm going to let it go.
Oh, okay. Bombs away, baby.
I don't want any hung ordinance at the end of the game.
Oh, my gosh, that would be the worst.
You mean that it's like a real combat term?
I thought that was just something we said in the staff briefs.
Hung ordinance was like live ammunition on a plane.
Anyway, with that, I'll turn it over to the three.
Hey, thanks.
Appreciate that.
Just doing, you know, doing my due diligence and reviewing the slide deck, obviously, you know,
A3 trash s here real quick.
We're live on X.
If you're not watching YouTube, you're an idiot.
Carry on.
Thank you, sir.
Thank you, sir.
Great guidance there.
I hope everyone copied down that guidance.
Update your guidance matrix.
And let's press forward.
Okay.
Yeah, obviously zero two this morning.
I was reviewing slides.
This is what is what Opso does.
You know, we sleep at the office.
We eat at the office.
We, you know, do everything at the office.
So I was there reviewing slides.
brother brother i i never left this weekend either i saw your car there the whole time brother i was
hoping you come to the broom closet brother i had some real good earthy pine note uh forward ipas
could have taken you know five had a sidebar but uh maybe this weekend actually actually i'm on
a sergeant major's house but uh maybe next weekend oh yeah i'm gonna yeah i just we got a got a
con op due out and you know we're at the ipr next week for the trash
So I'm just to be grinding. I'm just to be grinding.
You know, just iron major, just grind it on slides.
Bro, I hear you're working cops. I'm working fobs, man.
And the manning stuff can't brother.
We got to do it. Yeah, yeah, brother.
Hey, iron sharpens iron though.
Hey, I heard that brother.
Time together, brother.
And IPAs, they don't drink themselves.
They don't drink themselves.
I've always said that, brother. I've always said that.
They're tough to brew against tall grass.
Hey, that is the truth. That is the truth.
Yeah, brother.
Okay, well, also, yeah, okay, okay, sidebar, we'll put a pin in that one, five.
Yeah, I think 10% of the slides maybe got updated.
I see a lot of just out-of-date slides.
I see a lot of ones in the incorrect font.
I see a lot of ones in the incorrect, like view aspect.
I see some still have the big update across the front that I go in and I put in every week
so you know you need to update your slide.
Lose Drive Trash Vibb,
nuts, brother.
So, you know,
we're just going to,
for the one shop,
I guess he's at the Red Sox game.
Oh,
there at Yankee Stadium.
He was in tears last night.
He called Sergeant Major for emotional support.
And so Sergeant Major gave him a day of leave and Red Sox tickets.
I guess he has a connection with the LSU alumni network.
Oh,
and so,
yeah,
he's not able to call on to the brief.
Okay.
Hey, I'm sure.
But the numbers are bumping.
I'm sure his chief is going to cover.
down.
Sarre Major, when you gave him that day of leave, when you, the sergeant major, just pulled a day of leave out of the air and gave it to a commissioned officer with no questioning to any of his higher ups.
Did you, maybe on the flat black side at least, we know that you completely ignored the commissioned officer side and used your many years of Marine Corps experience to just bully him into thinking.
it was okay to take that day leave.
Did you at least cover down for maybe another senior enlisted Marine from his shop to brief the numbers?
Oh, no, no, sir, I did not.
It's funny you should ask that.
That would have been a good idea.
That could have been something I would have done.
I'm busy cooking up some gumbo.
Didn't have the opportunity.
I'm sorry, Major.
You've been in for 37 years and you've never left.
05 command. You're telling me you've never run into this problem before and thought of it as a good idea.
No, I have to. I just don't really care that much. And so I told him I take care of it.
You know, numbers are good as always. Well, sorry, Major, you kind of as an 89-99 fall into like the admin and personnel.
Could you just brief the numbers for us?
So the only thing I'm counting is, you know, them gumbo's. No, sir, that's about it.
The numbers are good.
That report card, I think, is good.
Outside of that, that's really about it that the ask one to say, go tigers.
Oh, what else he got?
Okay, hey, great.
Back to you three.
Well, then I guess that concludes the one brief.
Let's kick it over to the two.
Let's see what we got.
And you know what we want to hear.
You know what we want.
Bottom line up front.
Is that me again?
Yeah.
Sir, straight or whole moods.
yeah, no, no.
I remember how this circus
is good.
That's Sergeant Major.
It isn't there, devil doll.
Could you introduce yourself to the staff
before you just start talking?
Oh, yes, sir, Major.
As always, I am the two.
I follow the one right before the three
straight over.
Are you an officer or a PFC?
Because I think you forgot to put some rank on this morning.
Today I'm an officer, sir.
Or it's a major.
Excuse me.
So yeah, Strader Hormo's moves is closed.
There's been whispers that's going to open.
I don't think it is.
Would you say that's scuttle butt?
That's just going around?
Is that scuttle butt?
Yeah, some Lance Corporal told me that he thinks it's going to open pretty soon.
But I just, I don't think.
Some Lance Corporal said that.
Hey, trash sacks real quick.
Oh, yes, sir.
Where was that Lance Corp from?
He's from Toledo, sir.
But he happened to be a straighter home moves.
Just check and see if it was flat, see if you could see it from both sides.
You know, world's flat.
Well, if he went through Toledo to end up there, I'd say he's probably got some good gouged.
So before you belittle that young, think about Mission Command, okay?
Think about the Strategic Corporal.
I want you to take it a level further, the Strategic Lance Corporal.
I want you to think about Garcia and all the messages we've sent to him.
What do you think about sustaining the transformation?
So before you discount that devil dog,
they're the future warfighters.
One day you and me,
uniform is going to be in the closet.
All right.
So think about that.
Yeah, no, this was actually,
his name is Garcia.
It's a message from Garcia.
Straight of Hormuz is closed.
That's pretty much what I got.
Who did he send it to?
Who'd he send it?
Yeah, who did he send it to?
You said it's from Garcia.
I'm used to a message to Garcia.
Oh, the message from Garcia.
he sends it to his Twitter account
and then I follow him there
and I usually repost it.
What's name of that account?
Sorry, Major, get me on that account.
Oh, yeah, no, so that's a
I'm pretty sure that is there something about a
mud hen actual, I think is his
handle, but he's a good kid.
He's a good kid. I like him.
He was over the other night
eating some gumbo. I think he's on leave right
now. But, you know,
we'll find out what he's up to.
I'll get back to your goal tag.
All right. Hey, great brief. Great brief from the two. Okay. Current operations. Okay, hey, we have approximately two and a half hours left in the fiscal year. Okay, different. We have more time than that in our physical year. It was kind of during that, the pre-brief for, you know, the plan to plan. So, you know, that thing that we're always like, you're always asking for this, like, one resource or this thing or like this money that's.
there and we tell you every time like stop asking for we don't have any don't don't even bother with
it well we've got two and a half hours to use up a whole bunch of it um or it's gonna be real real
real real consequences if we don't use it up hey brother real quick trash five if it's if it's not
maintenance related don't bring it before the boss right okay if it's not maintenance or
and if it's not maintenance for trash we're not interested and tell your tell your company
Trash sergeants that, no, we're not getting extra trash bags, okay?
Or cool knives and sunglasses from Serbmark.
All right.
Trash and maintenance.
Yes, sir.
Hey, sir, real quick, this is something.
I was wondering, do we have any more bullets left?
I'm going to go hog hunting down the bayou, see if I get some of the bullets.
Do we use all them up for the fiscal year?
Are you asking for bollocks?
No, sir.
Bullis, sir.
You not understand me?
Oh, I'll kick that to the four.
Yeah, that'll be a four question, but I did just talk to the opposite.
You all the same to me.
Y'all are all the same.
A bunch of boys who pretending to work.
Okay, come on, Jans.
Let's go.
Go, Tigers.
Okay, but right, yeah.
But I need everyone to go ahead and stop everything they're doing to make this utilization of this one resource in the next two and a half hours.
like top priority. It is a no fail mission. So just, you know, take that into account. So,
you know, we know you're always asking for these extra days that you can work throughout the year.
And we tell you no, it's not possible. And then, you know, you know, last minute, we're going to
tell you, hey, rearrange your whole life and make it happen. So no big deal. Just something we do
every year. Okay. Kick it over to the four. See what you got.
Am I every
Hey look
Hey real quick
Sidebar trash 5
Captain 4 type
You got two options
You can brief your slide or we can talk
Texan and football choice is yours
Oh sir I'm gonna
A lot of extensive brief
I would like to get to
Okay
PME
So answer Sergeant Major
Yeah
We got a little bit of bullets left
Come see me
You go hunting
down by you, as you would like to say.
So let's go ahead and get the started, gentlemen.
If you see the slide, go ahead and click next slide.
Okay.
No, no, no, never mind.
That was my picture.
No, forward one slide.
No, not back a slide.
No, not back a slide.
No, forward.
Back a slide.
Forward.
Oh, back?
Forward.
Okay, click forward.
Hey.
Hey, this is the admin chief.
I'm just calling in.
Can you guys hear me?
Can I get a radio check?
Yeah, Gunny, we got you, we got you loud and clear.
Hey, sir.
Is that you, also, sir?
Yep, yep.
What's you got?
Hey, yes, sir.
I got a text from the one.
He said to make sure I called in.
I know I'm a little late.
Hang on, honey.
Honey, I'll be right there.
Take the dog outside.
I'm on a phone call.
Sir, he just wanted to let you know that the numbers were bumping.
Oh.
And that we got an awards board next week.
I don't know who's on it.
I don't think we've decided.
Right.
But click, click, click, click, click, click.
Damn, this is the left lane.
Anyway, sir, I'm sorry, sir.
My dog just jumped out of the car.
But numbers are bumping.
Nothing further for the group.
Hey, okay.
Thanks.
Appreciate you calling in.
I'm going to hang up and not listen.
Just text me.
Okay.
Yeah, we'll text you.
Everything that we brief.
Yep.
If you're listing, if you're listening and you think that's like, oh, that's crazy.
No, that literally happens every single.
The amount of blinkers.
Every single pre-drill call.
I swear everyone drives like a 95 Chevy.
Because I thought only my truck still goes, but man, it's wild.
Yep.
Okay, four great brief.
Are we on the right slide now?
All the dumpers are out.
All the dumpsters are out to start major anyways.
There's nothing really to report.
Okay.
Okay.
Hey, great, great.
Hey, you know, your accountability.
Your accountability.
For the sake of my trash Italians policy, three,
why don't you go ahead and kick it outlining stations?
Anyone else come by my office to give me a desk side brief.
Okay.
Desire.
You heard that, you heard that year.
Deathside brief.
So that's the six medical, dental,
and any other safe rounds.
Make sure you go.
I think we got a J7 person here for lessons learned.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Obviously the J7, the 3-5, the 3, 3, you know, all those.
Let's go to Outline stations here.
You know what there are three.
That's right at the Iron Major.
Just send them by my office.
Five-minute-in calls.
Desside brief.
I want six slides per presentation, all of them quads.
a picture of a trash can up left corner.
Sir, what's it? What's a J7?
Well, it's just think joint there, young company grade.
Okay, just think joint. Just think joint.
And think the number seven.
I thought it was like the people who stormed the white or the capital after.
No, that's J6.
J6. J6.
Insurrection Day.
Yeah, Day that live in infamy.
Yeah, that's J6.
Remember, whenever we say remember, that means something.
Remember the Alamo.
Remember the main
Titans.
Day that I live in infamy.
Remember the Titans.
Yeah.
So whenever America says that about you,
you got a problem.
Never forget.
It's also just to remember 9-11.
Yeah.
So just remember.
Yeah, remember the mudhins.
All right. Nice, sir.
Need up.
Okay.
Outline stations.
We're kicking off here.
We got chaps.
Chaplin checking in.
Sorry for the short brief last week.
It ended up that the.
Emergency prayer was just the Cajun Sergeant Major
needing a blessing for his boil.
I did inform him that this is not cause for an emergency,
but trash sakes,
he may need to have a talk with him.
So,
I mean to put you on blast there,
sorry, Major, but Chaps,
I think maybe didn't appreciate you sending up the red star
cluster for just a little boil blessing.
But Chaps did also include us here with this.
Therefore,
if you have been raised up with Christ,
Keep seeking the things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Set in mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ and God.
Colossians 3 verse 1 through 3, NASB, 1995.
And then Chaps closes it out with, as Trash Battalion,
so many of us can lose focus on the mission.
This mission is trash.
always will be trash. We need not get lost in the things that don't matter. Nothing else for the group.
Over.
Appreciate what you do, chaps.
Let's see. Let's see. We got that mofo guy, which I believe is a crew member, a big massonomics fan.
Chimed it says, hey, congrats on baby number two. Much love from SoCal crew. That's two. Big Grander.
easier the second time.
I've always said that.
And then, I think we got to start one more here.
Good old John K.
Trash, Texas is Colorado checking in.
Swing shift has swung and days are for the living.
Personal accountability is hard, much smoke.
Also, point of clarification,
the Army PT has not changed to push-ups plank run,
but rumor has it that it will.
Not sure if the uses the acronym PNN is alive and well in the USMC,
but it seems to be from Sargent,
or seems to be from the Sergeant Major News Network.
I wonder if that's private news network.
PNN, I don't know the PNN.
All secure in sector seven.
The Pete News Network.
Could be.
Could be.
He did saying in his brief,
Army's going to be able to run a test with nothing but a stop watching a clipboard.
which is that why is that the priority we've always been doing that he must he must have
bought stock in some clipboard company or something stop watching clipboards when strength comes actually
making cast iron clipboard i knew it so it's actually a strength test for the moderators
oh to hold the clip test for the tester so everyone's getting tested in that government bid
yeah any other outlying stations i think that's all we have
Oh, better late than never.
Two, one.
Come in when you want to.
Well, he did say to come in when you want to.
Yeah, whenever you want to.
Yeah.
Should we start the show?
I don't know.
Trey, anything.
Two quick updates for the podcast, powered by the Stringo.
The Turkey Poll live first weekend in December.
You can go to the strength.co, go to the merch page and click on TurkeyPull.
You can go to jims.com and click on the turkey pull link there.
You can sign up for in person or online from either link in person in Newport Beach, California.
It's 50 bucks for everybody.
Hey, how come the people in person get to have tamales and do it in person?
Yeah.
And I'm just going to do it from my garage because it's a fundraiser.
Okay, we give money the Semperifying America's fun.
And so no matter how you support it, we'll cut them a check.
They'll be there in Newport Beach, California.
We'll live stream that on YouTube.
So if you want to be a part of the Turkey Pool, you can go back.
It's the fifth annual.
So you can go back, check it out, see past things.
We usually have around 50 to 60 lifters in person.
Last year, I think we had 120 online.
We're sitting about an 80 online right now.
So you get a cool T-shirt with like a turkey deadlifting.
It's a Made in America T-shirt, made on heavy cotton.
It's a great shirt.
And you get to support a great cause.
And it's something to make you deadlift instead of run a 5K.
So when your brother-in-law is like, hey, want to go run a turkey trot?
You're like, no, I want to pull a turkey.
He'll understand exactly what you mean.
Just don't say you want to pull your turkey.
Also, the America 250 plate, when you listen to this will be live on the site.
Email went out to over 700.
people that signed up for early notification and to do our due diligence and make sure they got
first access. They got it today. So a lot of them today, we have some left. I do not think
that there will be, I think we will sell out by mid-October before we start shipping and what
should be late October. All the plates should be landed by Veterans Day. Obviously, I say should be,
you know, every now and then there's a weird thing with FedEx and carriers and something might get lost.
But we are on pace to ship every single America 250 plate by November 1st.
If you listen to this on Friday, the inventories are very tightly locked.
You can go on there and buy yourself the America 250 plate.
Please do.
There we go.
Now should we start the show?
No.
Try you get a lifting update?
As soon as the show's over, I got to go lift.
Yeah, no, I kicked it back off after I got back from vacation.
Let me see.
Just some squatting.
What I do yesterday?
Overhead Press yesterday.
Tonight got some deadlift.
One lift a day?
You know, and then I'll add some.
It's one lifted day minimum, and then I'll add some.
I got to use those Strength Co.
loadable dumbbells too.
Yes, farmer's curious.
I got a little lifting story that'll make me sound like an idiot.
Go ahead.
I mean, I always sound like an idiot.
So if you follow me on X, I post all my lifting there.
One day we'll revive comments on X because they're still pretty good.
But I got a bulkhead from the cellar, got the little squat stands.
We've talked about it.
And so I've squatted, I've pressed, and I benched above
ground this morning and if to go into school to around 1030 so I'm up with my daughter and I
thought oh I'll get a lift in but it was deadlift day usually I deadlift in the basement and so if
I deadlift late at night we're not like crazy about not a ton of TV but like we try not to use it as a
crutch and like in the morning like probably before noon like we don't use a ton of TV right it's like
interact do breakfast feed the cats go for a walk and so I was like if I go down in the
seller. There's not a ton to entertain my daughter down there with to also get a 30-minute workout
in. So I'm like, oh, I'll go out in mornings. We love bubbles in the morning. Sun comes up. The bubbles
come out. And, you know, that's like what we like to do. So I'll just deadlift upstairs. And in my mind,
I had done the deadlift up there already. So I go up, I turn the bubbles on. She's mesmerized by
bubbles. I go down and get my bar, bring the bar up. She's mesmerized by bubbles. Go down. Mat's
up, one 35's on the bar, set of five.
Dad, good job.
Come down, 225. You know, it's like this back and forth, me walking down.
It's five steps, right? It's a shallow basement.
So I get up to 455, and I was going to do two sets of five at 455,
then probably like a back off set. And then if she was still cooperating and, you know,
Diana's getting up, getting ready with the newborn. I was like,
maybe I can get some presses in. Like, we'll see.
I was like, maybe I'll just clean and press 135 a bunch, do some like high rep stuff.
I don't feel like bringing the squat racks up.
So I'm doing my set of five.
And it's like, I keep having to reset my feet for each rep.
I'm like, that's weird.
And then I finished my set of five.
And my daughter's like pushing the little red step two car like park, park.
And I think of my mind like, yeah, honey, I'll put you in it.
I'm thinking I'll do like the quick little block.
come back, pull a second set of five and go.
So I put her in the car and I said, look at it.
I look at the mats and they're like sunk.
And I thought, man, I'm deadlifting on cobblestone brick from 1780.
And so I'm like looking at it and I'm like, yeah, I definitely did some damage.
And so we went around the block, came back.
I was going to try a deadlift more anyway.
I was like, I'll take a little bit of weight off and just, I was like, do do,
4-05, but like do the
eccentric motion of putting it down
with no impact.
But daughter wasn't having it. So all I did was
455-5. That's all I did today.
I may press tonight when we're done or I may just do it
tomorrow.
But then we come back. I take her to the park.
We do the whole thing. Come back. Get the
the bubbles on. And yeah, I have
like two big divvits in
the bricks.
No, I did grab a flathead screwdriver real quick.
None of the bricks are cracked.
Good.
and I can definitely pull them out.
Yeah, they don't make them like they used to in 1780.
And I can definitely pop them out and fill it with sand, but it's just funny.
And I told Diane about later, she's like, wait, there's like two holes in the bricks.
I was like, well, they're not holes.
But yeah, and she walked out.
She's like, oh, you deadlifted it right there.
And I was like, yeah, that wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done.
So anyway.
Live and you learn.
Yeah.
Didn't we crack some pipes in our house in California?
for you? Allegedly, I don't think
we did. Yeah, what were
we power cleaning back then? 225?
Yeah, like, I don't think, like,
I don't think that was us, but
yeah. That was
probably Trey. Yeah.
I did look over there. Wait, which
house was over there. Yeah, you looked over there.
I think I have a photo of
wait, I know Nolan
lifted over there, which, by the way, congratulations
Nolan Hickey's second baby born.
Hey, um, the 26th.
He's got a girl.
and a boy now.
Amazing.
Yeah, because I looked it over there and then you took a picture of me and then you said it ended up on the starting strength.
That's right.
Yeah.
I sent it in.
They said your stance was too wide.
Yeah.
And I was second lieutenant deep in PME and I just wrote them back.
That's what you see.
Always trust the guy in the ground.
Good answer.
Always trust.
Oh, man.
Okay, okay.
But yeah, no, started lifting again.
I got to live tonight, so.
Yeah, buddy.
Should you wrap this.
What are you dead left to start?
What are you going to death left like 500 for five?
No, I started at probably more on paper.
That's where I started off.
It's usually where I start out, start out at.
It's almost like you've done this before.
What?
Take a long.
Lifted, quit lifting, started lifting again.
Yeah, I'll just take a delode.
in. Yeah, I call it de-lets.
They completely unload.
It's not even, yeah, you're just like,
deloads not quite, you know,
if it delode and then where it's at.
You know how many starting strength
enthusiast would love to hear,
would love to have the capability
of like, yeah, I haven't lifted in four
months, got three kids, not really
sleeping, CEO of a hose company.
And I'll start back light.
House 315 for five.
Well, we'll see.
A lot. I got to do it first.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you got that covered.
Do we have a lifting topic that we can knock out?
I did.
I had a question in there.
Okay.
Which one, Jeff, what do you think about it?
Do you want you're the most recent one you posted or like, because you posted one early on about which prep or which lift indicates like kind of the highest level of strength?
I like the second one.
All right.
Let's see.
I think that one's.
I like the first one.
And we can put that in the parking lot.
Table it.
You like the one about like the different body types that you're seeing?
Yeah, that's what I was curious about, man.
When I was doing squat,
I was kind of just like thinking of good questions to ask for the podcast.
And the one that came to mind,
because I remember like lifting with Nolan
whenever we were living together.
And I'm like, I wonder how like different, as you as a coach,
like, have you seen like, you've seen probably so many different body
types like does it does you know your coaching changes but like what affects it like the height how
if someone's like super short long arms on torso kind of like different advice that you give them like
if they're new to lifting like hey you're taller you have to do this or hey you have longer arms
you have to do this does any of that change or well the yankees just scorch that's terrible
too nothing oh I saw
But hey, the show goes on.
Hey, guys, and welcome back.
I'm Grant Brody from Strength Co.
And today, we're going to talk about different body types and the effect that it has on doing starting strength.
If you like the video, like a subscribe to the channel.
Been questioned on the OK podcast, episode 129.
If you don't follow the OK podcast, go check it out.
There's a link in the show notes.
We talk lifting, life, love, all kind of stuff on there.
And if you enjoy this YouTube channel and you want to know the other things that we're interested in, you should go see it.
Differences in body types bring up a lot of questions when doing starting strength,
particularly for the people that are self-taught, for people that read the book and then go
and try to implement it.
They read the book, they see the pictures, they might watch YouTube videos, they might watch
the Strength Co YouTube videos, Strength Co Instagram, Strength Co. X, and see people doing lifts and then
compare themselves to that.
there is a problem in trying to compare how you do the lifts to how other people do the lifts.
Lots of people are made with different amputtrauma.
I can't say the word right now.
Different body bone makeups that make things look different.
Some people will have long torsos.
Some people will have long femurs.
Some people will have short femurs.
Some people will have long tibias.
Some people will have short tibias.
Some people will have long humorous.
Some people will have short forearms.
And all of these things affect all of the lifts.
For example, in the press, a lot of people that have never pressed and are trying to press for the first time think that the bar is supposed to start on their chest.
I think it comes from a lot of people having done the bench press before in their life.
And they know that the bar is supposed to touch their chest at the bottom.
but for some reason they think that in the press, the bar needs to be down here.
That presents a lot of problems.
If you bring the bar all the way down to your clavicles, for most people, the elbows are
going to be behind the bar, the wrist are going to be an extension, and you're going to be
in a bad position to produce force one, but two, to have a good vertical bar path.
And I bring that up because the examples I'm going to give are going to bring you back to
first principles of what are we trying to achieve.
So let's talk about the deadlift for a second.
In the deadlift, we follow the five-step starting strength progress program.
Step one, you walk up and put the bar of the middle of the foot.
Why do we put the bar over the middle of the foot?
Well, because the bar over the middle of the foot is going to bring about a vertical bar path.
If the bar is forward of the midfoot, once you exert force against the bar,
the bar is going to swing back over the midfoot and then go up.
a bunch of videos that you can watch where you see this happen. The bar bell wants to travel in a
straight line. It's the best way to produce force against gravity. It's in a straight line. If I go out
and in, well, it's more work is required. Think mass times distance. More work is required because I'm going
out and in. So you can make the argument like, hey, maybe that's a good thing. I want to do more work.
But if you're trying to lift the most weight, which what we believe is lifting the most weight
and loading the most muscle mass at once and poses the greatest stress upon the body to then
recover and adapt and get stronger, you want to be in a physics kind of good position to do that.
So we have the bar over the midfoot.
Now, if I have a person with really long femurs and a really short torso, their back angle,
when they set up for the deadlift and they're following the same steps, bar of the midfoot,
bend over at the waist, grab the bar, drop your shins into the bar, set your low back,
drag it up your legs. It's going to look dramatically different. Long torso, short femurs,
really high butt in the air. They're going to be like a tabletop deadlifter. Excuse me,
other way around. Short, short femurs, long torso, they're going to look like they're at an angle.
Long femurs, they're going to look like a tabletop deadlifter. And so if you were to look at these things
and say, hey, my deadlift looks different than this guy's deadlift and this guy's deadlift
was in the YouTube video I watched.
It was an example on how to deadlift correctly.
I must be doing it wrong.
You got to go back to the first principles.
What are we trying to achieve?
Bars over the middle of foot.
I'm talking to deadlift right now.
Shoulders are in front of the bar.
Back as an extension, bar comes up in a straight line.
And based on the length of your bones and therefore your muscles that are attached to your bones
and work around your joints, your position may look different.
A lot of people will say, I can't squat to depth.
I'm really tall.
Well, we debunk this all the time.
We put them in a position with their heels just in the outside of their shoulders,
their toes out about 30 degrees,
and we have them squat down with no barbell and push their knees out.
And if they externally rotate their femurs, your thighs, they can achieve depth.
Now, sometimes you do that with people, and there are flexibility concerns.
And Mark Reputo doesn't talk a lot about flexibility and mobility and those sorts of things,
but sometimes you try to get someone down to that position and they start to fall forward to their toes or back to their heels.
But it's always a physics problem.
You hand them a 10-pound weight.
You have them hold it out in front of them if they're falling back into their heels,
and they can find that position where they can achieve depth.
Very rarely.
And I have coached thousands of people, which is,
kind of crazy to say, maybe 10,000 people, I don't even know, can you not get someone to achieve
depth in the squat? Now, some problems do exist, like teaching people how to set their low back.
Some people really struggle with that. And that's a whole other video for another time.
I think we have a video on rack pulls so we can put up there. But sometimes there are things like
that. But in terms of teaching someone to squat to depth, if they have the physical strength to hold
their own body weight. That's a whole, again, another issue. If you have someone that's very old,
just had a hip replacement, and they physically don't have the strength to sit up out of a chair,
they may struggle hitting depth day one. But in terms of taking the femurs, pushing them out to get
out of the way of the pelvis and hit depth, height is not an issue there. It's not a factor at all.
ankle mobility could be a factor there.
But again, someone with not a lot of dorsal flexion in the ankles,
generally the problem is they don't want to lean over the upper back enough
to get that mass forward to allow them to go to depth.
So does the body bone length play a part in how you coach?
Absolutely.
And if you're an experienced coach,
you might just look at the pictures in starting strength or look at videos that you see online
and think that, oh, this person can't do it because they're too tall or they're too short or
wherever the issue is. But really, if you go back to the principles in the squat, bars,
in the low bar position just beneath the spine of the scapula, and as I bring it down to parallel,
it stays over the middle of my foot. If I'm looking at the things that matter and I'm not
analyzing what the body looks like, now I'm effectively able to coach and teach people how to do it
correctly. So if you're watching yourself and you think my deadlift, I just watched Grant
deadlift on X and his butt is lower than mine. And I'm looking at mine and my back is completely
flat and I look like a dinner table. Well, actually pause before you even look to the bar.
Is the bar of the middle of foot? Are the shoulders in front of the bar? Is the low bar? Is the low bar
put an extension and when the bar goes to move off the ground does it move straight up or does it
shoot back if it shoot back it means that you had body weight forward and now you're compensating for
it to come back and bring it over into the way that it works against gravity which is in a straight
line i hope this video helps if it does like subscribe the channel we'll see next time
to answer your question yeah no that's pretty good now we can talk about it like normal humans
generally what about the squat okay i just well i just well i
I remember when you were, I was kind of saying whenever you were coaching Nolan and, you know, how tall is Nolan?
Six, seven.
Yeah, six, seven.
Like, extreme example there.
Like, his stance versus somebody of average height.
Yeah.
So I would say I actually, I have a photo of Nolan squatting in that garage that Jeff and I lived on.
And I would say that I was a young coach and had him incorrectly.
I actually think that the comment that starting strength made to me of his stances too wide was correct.
And I think that was born out of experience.
They've seen tons of them.
And I was compensating for how tall he was.
But the shoulder width or the stance with, the heels, is really based off on the shoulder
width.
And the depth issue is more on toe angle.
And what you see, where this binds people up, binds coaches up and binds cellars.
taught lifters up is if they're really tight they as they go down they start to lose some balance but
the deal is nolan is six seven at the time i bet he was 270 yeah so he's squatting a 45 pound bar
his center of mass hasn't moved much right he had a 45 pounds on top of 275 pounds so if he's
inflexible if his hips are tight or whatever the issue is he's not able to sit back and lean over
and four step until he gets to maybe red sox home run till he maybe gets to 135
185 and now for a young man like no one at the time i think was 25 24 yeah that we're pretty as men
in our early 20s were pretty naturally strong so you can put some weight on
the bar to find out where you're at. Where it gets difficult for coaches, in my opinion,
or where people struggle with is like, hey, I have a person that's super tall or has some kind
of weird body makeup, but they're also super weak. And I can't load the bar relative to their body weight
to fix the problem. Whereas in like young men that I coach, you know, cutting my teeth,
young Marines, it's like, hey, you're pretty fit. I can load you. But in general, the height of
the person doesn't make a difference in the stance. The height of the person doesn't make a
difference in the toe angle. The height of the person doesn't make a difference in the bar placement.
And in the squat, that one should be more simple. So you should go on deadlift. Okay.
Deadlift's more confusing and press because this arm, the forearm length compared to the humorous
length. So some people, when they grab the bar, it's like at my mustache. Some people, it's below their
chin. But what I should be focused on is, is my wrist neutral and is the elbow in front of the bar?
That should be what I'm focused on, not where is the bar in relation to my face.
So this is the equivalent of like the femur on the deadlift essentially.
Exactly. It's the same same concept. But I would say press and press and deadlift is what throws people
off more.
The squat throws people off because it's like the most complex of the lifts.
But I could see somebody starting off like brand new reading the book and then, you know,
just like not knowing.
You're like, man, I don't look completely different than this.
Yeah.
I mean, well, they try to encourage it.
I mean, I can't tell you in our Slack channel, once you can join for $29 a month.
You can use code okay and join for $19 and upload form checks.
I mean, you guys have seen it in there.
People post all the time their bottom position of the squat or their start position
in the deadlift.
And it's like screenshoted next to a picture from starting strength.
And they're like, what am I doing wrong?
I followed the steps.
My back angle looks different.
And it's like, well, you look different than the guy in that photo.
I don't know what else to tell you.
Like you're built different is what I mean.
You're like, you know.
Built different.
Built different.
No.
No, that checks out, man.
That's pretty much the exact what I was asking.
Yeah, there you go.
Good question.
Great question, Trey.
Well, do we jump right into Texas A&M football for the next hour,
or do we talk about this Home Depot cat debacle?
Trey.
This is a lot of people cat debacle.
Oh, okay, okay.
Are you guys tracking it all?
No.
I got the, like, Reader's Digest version in that, like, I think you posted something.
That's probably all I have.
What's your Reader's Digest version?
There was a Home Depot in Florida.
There were some cats that a late like hung out around there and there was a lady that was like coming to feed them.
Home Depot gets a new manager.
New manager is like, no, do not feed these cats.
Two, there's multiple cats, several cats.
It's a colony.
A colony.
Ooh, okay.
A couple end up.
passing away.
And
lady that used to take care of
said cats is very upset.
It's kind of what I'm gathering.
Yeah. And I also have a Reader's Digest version.
My version is a little bit more in depth,
but it's that
the cats all disappeared.
Oh, okay. Okay.
And the manager was asked, where are the cats?
And they're like, oh, we took them to the Humane Society.
And so then the locals called the Humane Society and were like, were you given a colony of cats?
Nope.
And they were like, no.
So then the woman was like, that was the feeder of the cats.
I don't know if she worked for Home Depot.
If she was local, I don't know.
And we're pro Home Depot here.
But anyway, it was funny because my brother texted me.
who works from depot and said hey i may need to borrow calhoun and wayland and he's he's he likes animals
fine but like he's never he's got he's had five kids and they've never had an animal right like they just
they just have they just have never done they don't need to add that in the mix i don't think yeah and uh
and so when he comes over i think there's always and i'm totally projecting but he's my brother so i'm
I'll do that. I think he's like at first like, why are there lint rollers everywhere and why are like
we constantly vacuuming the couch? But then like at night and we'll go into the other slide of tweets,
he watches like a big part of the night for me and Isabella like that leads in the bedroom
time. It's like tweets. She's like tweets and you put like tental gummy allegedly, not the gummies,
nuggets into a bag. And then the cat's like lover. And she wants him to love more or her.
her all day, but they don't. But when it's treat time, she has the bag, they love her. And so she
like feeds in the treats. Then when she's done feeding them the tweets, she says cats, which means
do you want to go feed the cats? And then we go down in the cellar and we feed the cats. And it's like a
big event. And so he was kind of watching that and being like, oh, this is actually kind of cool.
Like these cats are like a big part of not just her life, like you guys's life. It's part
of the routine. And then it's like we come back from feeding the cats, put the cat food in the
fridge and then it's like shower and she's like brush your teeth and when she comes after the shower
and so then we go into the shower and then we play raffy and do the brush so it's like this whole thing
so he sends me that text and i thought oh he must have mice in the south so i'm like mice and he's like
just google home depot cats or put it on social media and so i do it and like all these padded people
and people are like coming after this store manager and i actually probably because i'm at
the war college and you too, Jeff.
But I was like, oh, this is actually like a very military saga.
Like new commander comes in.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Like that poor store manager, I have no idea who she is.
But comes in as like, why do we have 27 feral cats at the front door?
This is not in line with what we're doing.
We're supposed to be doing here.
If you love them so much, take them home, lady.
That's what I would have said.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Anyway, that's the Home Depot cat saga, 2026.
I hope these cats are okay
Well, all right
Tray, should we jump into Texas A&M football
for the next hour or should we talk about
Oh, I don't know
Talk about my Aruba trip.
Yeah
Oh, you can't you pick a Rubot trip?
We can do that.
Yeah, okay.
Yeah, okay.
Oh, you're a week of leave?
For my week of leave.
Yeah, whenever we're starting majors,
got some gumbo.
Give me a week of leave.
So 10-year anniversary is in October.
Southwest had a sale to a rub-up in September.
As long as the Strenka's not doing it.
That's right.
That's it.
Southwest had a sale in September, so I go, let's celebrate now.
So we booked it, had the parents watch the kids.
Whose parents?
My parents.
Okay.
So my parents watched the kids.
and then yeah man
Sunday to Thursday
went to Aruba
I go Abby
do you like do you want to do stuff and she goes
I just want to sleep so
we did very little
that's what you've always said
that's good we left
the property to go push some chow
and that was about it
good chow push
dude great chow
did you put it on chow
what kind of chow?
Tented to it's all
fish
no I think I think oh that's the one you
Question? Yeah, he fixed it. It's on there.
Okay. Okay, I'll go back and add them. I'll put him on
Chow radar. We're taking this. I think we have
more restaurants globally
than we do state-side.
I'll put three from Newport
this week.
Ooh. I'm catching up.
Jeff, are you catching up?
Oh, yeah. I'm always,
I'm always putting stuff on Chow here.
You got to make a little Montgomery
footprint. Remember,
chow is one on land.
You can have chow in the air.
Jeff has such an excellent palette.
Like whenever you put some on there.
Jeff, don't.
See, Buffalo Wild Wings.
No, so we, yeah, so we left me in.
So all the restaurants there, it's the, they'll have fishermen that work with the restaurant.
Go out, catch fish, bring it back, and it's the catch of the day.
So it's kind of whatever they catch, Red Snapper, Mahi, Mahi, kind of whatever it is.
And then you can pay for up to six people, like 400 bucks, and they'll,
take you fish and bring it back and you can cook it.
Oh, okay.
Abby wasn't interested in that.
This would be something that I feel like if we went that we would do.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
It wasn't much of an avid thing.
That's all right.
Funny how that works.
Just skipped right to the best part, the push and chow.
It's smart.
Three one Yankees.
What are we doing?
It's, uh, have you, I assume neither of y'all have been before.
To Aruba?
Yeah.
That's in Louisiana?
Close.
We're out of Arkansas.
Yeah.
Yeah. Golf of America.
Yeah, Gulf America. It's a unique.
So it's like 30 miles off the coast of Venezuela.
Oh, it's like the Philippines.
Basically, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We've got this war college teaching you all.
We got, there's no geography classes here.
So.
Yeah, we're not going to geography.
So would McArthur?
Attack in random places in the world.
Would McArthur have, like, wanted to take Aruba?
I would have been pro that.
Like if Ruby became part of the U.S., yeah.
Yeah.
That's been nice.
So it's a Dutch colony.
Okay, I said I was to ask.
I was like, who does?
Who does? Who's colony, is it?
Dutch, good allies.
You know that I've always said about allies.
What?
Who needs them?
Better to fight with him than without them.
Yeah, that's a good point.
True.
All you NATO list is listen up.
So it's unique.
So it's like this blonde-haired, blue-wide, white dude with like a,
Caribbean accent is like talking, yeah, which kind of tripping.
And then, so it's like a third.
Yeah.
A third is that.
A third is like from South America.
And then a third is like Caribbean.
So, are any like, um, kind of by you or Gala folk out there?
It's probably one or two.
Okay.
Yeah.
Good.
Yeah.
When Abby was down there, they had shit, there's at least one.
Go tag.
Go tag.
A go tiger.
Auburn.
That's the Tigers were referring to, right?
Yeah, it was a good trip.
It was crazy traveling with kids versus without kids.
How much less stressful it was.
I walk in the park.
Did you guys just talk about your kids the whole time?
No.
I think there was a day, Rabby, like, just didn't talk to me, period.
What's crazy is she was watching, you remember Natalie Holloway?
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Star Trek?
Yeah, Star Trek.
Yeah.
Star Trek girl, she disappeared in Aruba, like in that room.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You were thinking Natalie Portman.
Yeah, well, you know it's the only kind of wood that doesn't flow, right?
Hey.
Natalie.
That's good.
They'll run together after a while.
Abby was like on the way there and like while relaxing was watching like Natalie Holloway documentary.
which is wide to me.
Wives choose the best things to watch.
They love the murder.
They love it.
I don't get it, man.
Love it.
She's always reading murder books.
I'm like, yeah.
Same with Abby.
Can we work in something else into the rotation?
Taking notes?
Like, she's like,
I read this story about a two-year-old that got lost in the woods for 18 hours.
This is like a real story.
I'm just like, why did you read that?
story.
It's so weird.
It's like an epidemic of wives
watching murder
documentaries.
It's not bad.
I mean, I
also have an epidemic of watching
the Red Sox lose in the playoffs, but
well, you know, can't judge too much.
Mr. Team made it.
Oh, God.
Bases loaded, no outs.
Terrible.
Let's get double play.
Yeah.
What, uh, let's, uh, should we talk
about Texas A&M for the next hour or should we talk about USA powerlifting, not at the Arnold?
Yeah, I thought that was interesting.
And also, like, very few people will care about it.
I thought the reason was interesting.
And I don't even like powerlifting drama, but I just got an email because Stranko's, like, a club for them.
And basically, they said they wanted to move powerlifting.
So you guys both been there.
Like, remember when Jen Thompson's, like,
like on the stage, Gino's announcing it right there.
And then you remember like USA weightlifting and some of the other sports were in other halls or across the street?
I don't know if you remember seeing like competitions when you're walking through the...
Yeah, we met that girl at the bar who like broke some record, right?
Strongman was in the main auditorium, but yeah, you did meet her.
But I just mean like some of the other federations or different types of the sport or like across the street.
or like in another building.
And so I think,
and I get confused all the time.
I think it's USAPL.
Basically they were like,
hey,
we're going to move you.
And I actually,
one,
I don't like,
the Arnold's so corporate now.
And I say now,
like I've been gone forever.
We went for the first time in 2021.
But I just mean like it's,
it's so,
I'll just never forget when
the people putting on the,
um,
Animal Cage reached out.
We're like, hey, we want stranko plates.
I was like, let's do stranko plates.
Like, you got it.
Like, it's on me.
I'm like, we'll do the animal cage.
You'll be all stranko plates.
And then I got an email from like, I don't know, some VP or director of something
from the Arnold that was like, hey, Roeb doesn't want that.
You can't do that.
And I'm thinking like, well, how is like a company supposed to make it?
Like here, yeah, anyway.
So I have my own.
gripes with the Arnold for stuff like that.
But, yeah, basically they're like,
hey, if we're not in the main auditorium,
we're not doing it.
And I think probably a mistake for them.
Oh, yeah.
Powerlifting's not that exciting.
No, not for the Arnold.
For USAPL.
Like I kind of understand the Arnold's perspective in that.
It's like they'd actually rather watch the girl you met at the bar
that's going to from England
that's going to deadlift 700 pounds.
Yeah.
Like that's kind of like like
and we coach powerlifting all the time.
Like we handle people.
We just had a lifter from the gym.
Mark Trout go to the Olympia and set like
three national records last weekend.
I'm very pro it.
But I do understand like
the Arnold's perspective of like
could we have something more entertaining
on the main stage right now?
It's not a big spectrum.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I also think for the people that are diehard powerlifting,
I think they'd walk across the hotel Causeway.
Yeah.
I think they'd go to the other atrium or wherever it is,
and they'd watch it anyway.
So, yeah.
Not at the Arnold.
So like when they were doing all the big time guys,
I remember like Thor was there and then I can't remember.
Most of that was strong man you were watching.
Okay.
So that's a strong man.
Yeah.
Powerlifting.
And actually, I can't remember what year.
I remember a year, I don't think you were there.
Jeff, I think it was a year before where we were kind of flipped looking at the main stage.
Okay.
Do you remember that when it should have been your first year?
And that was the power.
It's like where, yeah, anyway.
Yeah.
It's, we try to talk lifting once in a while.
So there you have it.
No USAPL.
Okay.
Well.
All right.
Should we talk about Texas A&M for the next hour,
or should we talk about General Everly visiting the Naval War College?
Trey.
Actually, what's going on with General Everly?
You remember him?
That sounds familiar.
You would have been there.
So Jeff and I checked in OJT because we were a little bit ahead of you.
Okay.
Had Everly, totally botched our travel claims, went for six.
months at Fort Sill.
So he was before Bertrand.
Beltran.
Yeah.
Beltran.
Yep.
He was before Beltran.
So then Everly had.
You probably watched his change of command.
Potentially.
Yeah.
Like you probably had him for like, I mean, Jeff, what do we have him for?
Yeah, two months, three months.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So now he's a one star.
And he's at the J7, which means joint.
Jay is joint.
I'm not sure what seven means.
Gosh.
Let's find out.
I should know this.
4-1 Yankees fall apart.
Seven's new, by the way, so don't feel too bad.
But basically, he came to do a lessons learned.
So he is like his job is to look at everything that's going in Epic Fury,
analyze it.
his number two is a colonel from the Air Force who's done a lot of teaching in Montgomery,
analyze it, and then provide feedback back to the combatant commanders that are doing stuff
and be like, hey, this thing is because of this, right?
Yeah.
And so a lot of stuff, you can't talk about it.
But it was super interesting.
And so, yeah, he came out and talked about the current fight and all that stuff.
and I think he saw me why I was in the auditorium
because he kind of looked at me and raised his eyebrows,
but then when the brief was over,
all the civilians are down there and like trying to talk to the channel.
So I just wanted to like stood on the steps.
And then he definitely saw me.
It was like pointed.
That's funny.
And.
You read that mustache?
Yeah, I probably hated it.
Yeah.
He actually commented there was an Air Force major that asked a question
and the guy's mustache is like,
I mean, like my mustache.
mine's actually like in regs right now. It's like out to his ears and huge. And he was like,
excellent mustache. And my infantry buddy next to me, Citadel grad, who was on the last BLT with me,
leaned over and was like, he doesn't mean that. And I was like, no, he definitely doesn't mean that.
So I went down the stairs and then he, I could tell he was trying to exit a conversation with some
bureaucrat. And so he pointed at me and I went up and I was like, hey, sir. I was like,
5-11 alum he's like yeah i know and i was like me and the other killer b major biggie are both in
p m e right now he said yeah we uh we're both in the reserves now and he was like oh that
reserves at p m that's a big deal i was like well i think you're just saying that's where he's like
i was like i was like i don't know if you remember me and then i was like you know 2012 and he was like
oh no i remember the killer piece and i was like
I was like, that's amazing.
I don't remember my wife's birthday.
But that's cool.
So, and then he said, we haven't been to Montgomery yet, but we're going.
Okay.
And I said, well, Jeff's there.
And he's like, I'll find him.
That's what he said.
I'm sure if he comes here to your talk, don't make this, yeah.
Yeah, I'm sure he'll be like, where's Jeff Biggie?
I will gladly go.
Yeah, he'll come to my class.
Yeah, yeah.
We'll get lunch.
Yeah, it'll be a whole thing.
He's actually been reading your papers.
He's like, man, that guy understands Clauswood's better than anyone.
Got to get this guy in the brig.
He's an idiot.
Jeffrey.
Straight to jail.
Yeah.
Carl Von Jeffrey.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, thanks.
English manager.
Now let's get into it.
That's pretty cool.
And now it's time for
Trays
Lements of the Week.
Hey, man,
I feel like South Carolina's
having just rough a year.
You know,
I don't know.
who I want the third party Jeff to win in this.
I don't know who's having rougher.
Because what I will tell you is,
and I have to say this out loud,
but like,
is the expectation that ever really been possible for South Carolina?
Like, I'm 38 years old.
I went to my first game when I was six.
Home run Yankees is infestimal.
You know,
the best times are 11-1 seasons under Spurrier with Garcia.
Cancer-free, by the way.
Good job, Stephen.
Awesome, man.
Didn't win anything.
Like, we won a bowl game.
We won 11 wins.
We didn't win the East.
Like, I guess one time we went to the championship game against Auburn.
Auburn.
Whereas Texas A&M, I think, even though the L-L-L-leaders are all gay,
Like there's a, like the going in is we could win the SEC.
That's a Gamecock fan.
I think we could.
But I'm talking as like a non-Texas A&M fan.
Well, I see the team as a real threat.
I remember coach last year said this team will make the playoffs next year.
Yeah, it's not looking good.
Not looking great.
I guess long season.
On the field, that is true.
On the field, I would say A&M's bigger disappointment, off the field.
like didn't they all just kick off like y'all's the best player and he's gone i wish they would have
kicked him off they suspended them i i actually think steve spurter mentality of you're off the team
i mean i think this all goes back to nil but you got dylan stewart and then shame beamer came out
to bat for him like there's a lot of things going on that you don't see and i'm not saying there's not
i'm not saying there's not but like dude wouldn't leave the field wouldn't talk to his position code
punched a guy in the end zone?
Like, I don't want that in my org.
That's kind of what I was letting that.
No, yeah, it's A&M, man, is just completely,
I don't know what's going on.
It's just, have you watched any of the games?
The last two?
A little bit.
I was, I was, I know Grant hasn't.
Who'd you play?
LSU this last week.
I was really, yeah, I did watch some of that actually.
Brutal, man, just brutal.
That one is like, okay.
Like, I could, if you were more understanding, you're like, hey, LSU is going to blow you all out of it.
Like, well, you know, they have some.
It's LSU.
Yeah.
So week before, Kentucky is just losing Kentucky, I think.
That's just like a step above App State.
I mean, South Carolina is playing Kentucky this week.
Actually, they're not a bad team.
They're not.
They're not.
I think the SEC, like, I think, I think, you're, like, I think you.
you know, if you're, if you're an SEC guy for a long time, like, you know,
Grant and I, like, you know, real SEC guys like Grant and I and then, you know,
from the South.
You think Kentucky, you're like, you should be Kentucky every year.
Like, that's a, that's a basketball school.
Like, and then you think the same thing about Vanderbilt.
You think the same thing about, like, Mississippi State.
But I think the SEC at the top level, I think is not as strong as like the Big Ten.
but I think the bottom
the floor is a lot
is a lot closer to the ceiling
so to speak
I would agree with that
but yeah
you know what's frustrating man
is watching these first year coaches
I look at
so I look at Auburn
who else is first year
Auburn
Summerall Auburn
Florida
they're okay but dude
I look at Florida
and I'm like those dude
like that's a good team
oh dude
they are running the ball
all over everybody
Yeah, I think they're like a top continuum in the SEC.
It's going to be very interesting.
And they got a brutal schedule coming up.
They go Texas and Georgia back to back right.
Or that'd be a by week between them.
But I know they play on the schedule right now, Texas and Georgia.
So it's like, they're going to get tested.
They might win one of those.
Yeah.
We're going to get to see whether or not they're legit, which is cool.
But man, yeah, SEC schedule is just brutal.
So it's like, you know
But yeah, as far as A&M,
Grant, you can
sympathize with this.
Like your team's not great,
and then your rival is really good.
You're like, it sucks.
Yeah.
At least now, like South Carolina.
We're talking about the Red Sox Yankees?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. I see.
Yeah.
South Carolina might not be great,
but Clemson, I think, is worse.
So we should.
I don't know, dude.
They seem to be turning around.
Hey, long season.
Long season.
season. I mean, the problem with a team like South Carolina with the mid-budget is everybody
wants to fire a beamer. And I think I'm probably in that boat, like, emotionally. But if I
look at it from business, I think we own like 24 million.
That's a lot of cheddar. Relatively low compared to a government budget. Yeah. But
Like, you think about that 24 mil that could go towards NIL, like, that's a, that's a lot.
That's a lot.
That's true.
It's, uh, so basically we just need to get strength to sell more plates so then Grant can, can,
then Grant can put money into.
Yeah, they just need more donors.
Donors make football teams in college.
If you were, if you were in the position to donate to an NIL fund, let's say you were,
biggest weight company in the world.
Would you donate to South Carolina or the Citadel if you had to pick one?
I think if I had my thought is not on the answer because the answer is Citadel.
Okay.
Because I actually think it would be easier with a bunch of money to go turn an FCS program around.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Then it would be there's I own the biggest weight company.
There's a guy that owns a hose company that's TechS A&M fan.
I got to compete against him, right?
Like it's probably the office.
odds are probably better with the Citadel.
But I actually think I would do something with the strength training of the teams.
Oh, yeah.
And the coaching.
Like, I actually think if there was like I had influence, that's where I would go.
You'd be like, all right.
But you would go there to be.
Yeah, if I was the, if I had the biggest weight company in the world and I could go make myself the head strength coach at the Citadel.
and also pick who the head coach is
that's going to run the VIR.
BW, obviously.
Bring all my assistance.
Yeah.
That's, that's, I mean, I'm not kidding.
That's, I think like proper strength coaching
and BW has the VIR analytics.
I think.
Trey handles all the hose for the football team.
Yes.
Citadel.
Jeff writes all the papers for the players.
Yeah, that's right.
I think Citadel's
FCS champions within three years.
Yeah.
Yeah.
A Citadel athletic director,
I know you're listening, so just
some to chew on.
Who is the A.B.
One.
A.D. It just changed.
I got to look it up. I'm not going to pretend
no. AD Citadel.
Yeah, Auburn's undefeated.
Art Chase.
No.
February 19, 2025.
He was at Duke for 25 years.
Wow.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, it's phone numbers right here on Google.
You can just call them up.
Okay.
Should we try to get him on the pod?
Let's get him on the pod.
Let's see what happens.
See, that we call us.
You can call right now.
I'm going to do it.
8, 4, 3.
He's asleep.
He goes, hello.
Is this strength go?
Am I on the okay podcast?
He's like, hey, I'm listening live.
What do you mean?
Can you hear that?
Yes. Yeah.
If he picks up, this would be crazy.
Dude.
Question is, are you going to leave a voicemail if there's an option?
When you're going to, it's not available.
Record your message after the tone.
When you've finished, you can hang up or press one for more options.
Hey, my name's Grant Brogey.
I'm a Citadel alumnus from 2010.
I'm the owner of the Strength Co.
and I wanted to talk to Mr. Art Chase
about some potential options for his football team
and the strength training program.
If you give me a call back, that would be great.
Thank you for your time.
You hear it here first, folks.
The bricks are getting laid
and we're building the foundation.
I feel a powerhouse.
You can step into this right now.
It's sausage.
You can have to be the biggest in the world.
They'd be like...
I'll just have Jeff write in my papers.
remotely for the naval war.
All I need to do is just
Control F, find everywhere I put air
power and then replace it with C power.
It's C power. I'll put Diana in
class for me
for class
contribution. I was just
I think my hand
said it best when
then that's it. All you got to do.
Okay, Red Sox
Homer. Hey, two. Coming back.
Terrible.
This is brutal. All that.
comeback just to blow it to the Yankees, man, I hate them.
I might hate them more than Clemson.
Nice.
Yeah, no, Auburn is not undefeated.
They lost, they got handled by Florida two weeks ago.
That's right.
They did beat Vanderbilt last week, but then they go on the road to Tennessee,
on the road to Georgia, LSU at home, Ole Miss, at Ole Miss, Arkansas,
at Mississippi State, which was maybe going to be a win,
but now looks like that's definitely not going to be a win.
So I think I liked our chances against Arkansas
and I like our chances against Samford.
And that is-Samford.
That's a Citadel adversary.
Yeah, I like our chances against him.
I like your chances against him too.
Trey, all jokes aside and not to rub anything in.
Are you a little worried about the Citadel game now?
I'm worried about all the game.
Okay, all right, good answer.
I posted your fall schedule, though, I saw.
Yeah, you're not going to sit at all game.
Yeah, you got Pumpkin Patch Visit next weekend, fall wedding,
wife's friend's baby shower.
I thought that was so funny because I'm just like.
Grant, yeah.
I don't know if I ever made that.
That was pretty good.
I found it on Instagram.
How about time to make that?
I'm studying 100 years of seat.
I get a lot more Texas A&M content popping up in my feed.
yeah i do too so that's sad um now it's time for trades picks the week every time every week at this point
of the show we go over our favorite schools upcoming games and who we think's going to win them
and then we also pick one game from the week that we think's the biggest game of the week that everyone
should watch right this segment of the show is brought to you by mr helmet green gridiron gridiron
green click the link in the show notes go get a football helmet for your favorite football team
we're going to start out with the game of the week which is the citadel obviously versus
south carolina state south kona state comes into the game five and no undefeated they are an hbcccc
black college and university hbc whatever it is i always think head ball coach um so they're
they're actually pretty good team.
Five and O.
Citadel owns the series four and two.
South Carolina State's won the last two meetups.
They won by 10, or excuse me, 20 last year, 10 the year before.
So they're definitely on the rise.
Citadel coming in at one and three coming off.
Devastating loss.
It's being played in Orangeburg, South Carolina,
home of the South Carolina,
the South Carolina, referred to as the Battle of the Bulldogs.
I got the Citadel.
by two touchdowns.
What's the line?
Based off nothing.
I got the Citadel by three touchdowns, maybe.
Three touchdowns.
Go Bulldogs.
It's on the NIAC network.
It's 11 a.m.
Grant said two touchdowns.
Jeff says three touchdowns.
I say three.
Citil loses by six.
I'll split the difference.
I'll say 10 points.
Citadel.
10 points.
All right.
Sitel.
All right.
Good.
We got the big game of the week out of the way.
South Carolina hosting Kentucky at home
Shane Beamer on the hot seat
I have no faith in this team
I'm just going to be honest
Lenora Sellers took off his glasses this year
that was problematic
I think Kentucky's good
they beat A&M I don't think A&M's trash
I don't think we thought they are what we thought they were
but I think Kentucky's good
I think
I think South Carolina hangs around third quarter
and Kentucky wins by 14.
That sounds about right.
I would go with that.
I'm going Game Cox, baby.
Love it.
Rider died.
Go Cox.
Go Cox.
Okay.
So then Lute Tudelor.
Auburn is going at.
Auburn.
At Tennessee.
So they'll be just getting
bludgeoned in their ears with racky top.
Tennessee didn't look they look they put a pretty good fight against Alabama despite some sort of weird illegal onside kick thing that the SEC came back and said hey we shouldn't have allowed that whatever
I'm going yeah go ahead Tennessee on this one that's all right that's all right Auburn new stadiums opening up the stadium three hours early for a happy hour Auburn I'm going Auburn I got I'm I'm I'm I'm
no faith in this team, but I'm putting faith in Alex
goalish to get him on track.
Okay.
I need he's a good coach, man.
I do too.
I do too, and I hope they give them actually a little bit of time there.
I just don't trust y'all's quarterback.
Ah, dude.
No, not all.
Especially anytime he throws the ball, which turns out is a big, crucial step to being
a quarterback.
That's, yeah, no, that's.
Turns out, it's half, it's half of the things you can do.
All right. So Auburn, Auburn and I picked Tennessee.
Let me see, A&M playing at 6 p.m. Central Time.
Okay.
Going up against Arkansas.
What time is that grand time?
It's seven.
Okay, thanks.
So this is a battle for who's going to be the worst in the SEC.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
What it's shaping up to be.
I say A&M pulls it out.
I think it's still going to be ugly, but I think...
Still got those glasses on.
Still got them on.
I just think I don't know.
Arkansas is not great.
But if we lose this, I just, I don't know.
I'm just going to watch something else.
You get really into the WMBA.
Hey, NHL started.
They did.
NHL started.
Bruins beat the Rangers, three nothing.
That was my solace last night.
Oh, nice.
Star Trek.
Star Wars.
What's the big guy game?
Big game of the week.
Oh, college football.
I'm picking A&M also.
So I'm figuring out of balance.
Yeah, gig them.
I say biggest one this week, I think, is Alabama versus Mississippi.
Yeah, that's going to be really, I think, that's going to be a put up or shut up kind of thing for Mississippi State.
Ohio State, Iowa might be.
It's either going to be.
Midwest.
To all roads.
It's either going to be like a close game, like a really low scoring,
or I feel like Ohio State much blow them out.
Yeah, I think Ohio's going to run them out of the building.
How's our boy from Indiana doing?
He's still undefeited.
They struggled a little bit against Northwestern, Friday night game.
That as like a reigning national championship,
they are just like so under the radar.
Like no one's, no one's talking about.
which I don't think it's
underrated
God,
is a middle
pitching again.
Yeah.
The hand
looked super great.
All right,
you want to run through
these picks real quick?
Let's run through the picks.
Also,
one thing by the picks,
I think it was until last week
that I realized you could like wait
the games
so you could decide.
Like,
so didn't realize that.
I haven't made any picks.
I know.
So I'm not saying you a hell of it.
I'm going to come back, though.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
That was a good natural okay.
Okay.
All right.
First game, Alabama, Mississippi State.
Tide.
Okay.
Yeah, I picked Alabama.
11 a.m.
I do it.
I think I'm going to go Mississippi State here.
Ooh, it was Calbale.
Make it out.
Make a note.
Make a note.
Make a note.
Next one.
West Virginia, Iowa State.
Mountain Mama.
That's why I'm going.
Burn them couches.
Yeah.
West Virginia.
Pat McAfee University.
Okay.
Next one.
Michigan at Minnesota.
I'm going to stay on the Michigan Hader train.
I'm picking Minnesota.
Really?
Okay.
They lost last week, right?
They did.
Yeah.
Last second.
Yeah, I'll come back.
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah.
Ohio State versus Iowa.
The.
The.
Yeah, I picked a hot state
Florida, Missouri
At Missouri
Gators
Go Gators too
Let me see
Next one is Virginia at Florida State
Oh
You mean Virginia
Going old Ben Franklin school
Can he start that?
Caves
It's good calves
Thomas Jefferson
Well maybe Ben Franklin did
I know Thomas Jefferson
Like designed
Monicello
I think it was actually
Carl Von Collins
Oswitz. Yes, yes. I know he had a hand in it. Yeah. He's the first AD. Well, education is actually just
an extension of politics, which is an extension of war, which is an extension of politics by
their means. So, yes. Carl. Which is an extension of education. Which is basically a hose.
Yeah, yeah. Like, yeah, similar to an extension of water by other means. Yeah. Yeah.
Potentially of a hose, that's right.
We picked Kentucky at South, at South Carolina.
I picked the Gamecocks, make a note.
Make a note.
BYU at TCU.
Go Coogan.
Come to the Mormons.
I got the Mormons.
Let me see.
Here's one.
Baylor at Arizona State.
Give me, Gronkowski.
Okay.
Yeah, I picked Arizona State.
or do he go to Arizona
No, he went to Arizona State
Yeah
I think you went to Arizona
I think you went to Arizona
Okay, give me the other team
Okay, give me the other team
Yeah, Baylor
Actually, I have Bears
too, I thought
I know a guy that was born
A Baylor Hospital, give me the Bears
Okay, go Bears
Does he also make plates?
He's got a buddy
he's got a buddy next place
nice he's got he probably was deployed a while
back what do you think he's raised
he was raised in south Carolina
what do you think his roots are
he's manufactured in tejas
no Massachusetts
oh Massachusetts
manufactured though
he rolled off the assembly line
in Texas
assembled
assembled in Texas
yeah yeah
what a shame
all right Cincinnati
against Arizona
on it. That's Brancowski. There you go. You can
pick the Grancas. Oh, Grom.
Well, I'm taking the Travis Kelsey's then.
You're taking the Kelsey's. Okay.
Cincinnati. They're undefeated.
I'd be pretty, I've been pretty good.
Yeah.
I'll watch all these
peripheral games. Peripheral theaters, I pay
a lot of attention to these days. I'm really
big into them.
Oh, man.
All right. That's it. That's the
week.
Woo.
Okay. So, speaking of Stephen
Garcia, uh, been watching his feed because had his cancer removed, uh, pray that all goes well.
But he posted something on his feed and it was like, I can't believe this was made in 1999
and people thought it sucked. And I'm watching it and there's like a guy.
Trey, did you do vacation Bible school? Yeah, BBS. Yeah. Did you ever do like the tabernacle or like
everyone wears a toga and walks around.
Yeah, and you're like, oh, the Ark of the Covenant, we're going to put it in this room.
And like, don't touch that.
Like, you know.
So when this comes on, that's the first thing I think of.
I think like, oh, this is some kind of like biblical thing.
And then this dude just like grabs a stick and like lights come out from each side.
And it's Liam Leason.
And I think that light.
were green is that right yeah and i'm like wait a minute that's the guy from taken and then it cuts to
little luke skywalker and his like dumb car and then those like spider things that are running around
and i'm like i'm like wait is this star wars episode one and then it cuts back and leon nison's like
and i'm like liam nason was in star my mind was blown like absolutely
Absolutely blown.
And I played Taco Bell, peel the Star Wars things and put them on the map to, like, try to get a free taco.
I never was allowed to watch the movie.
But I was aware that it came out.
I mean, I was 11.
No idea.
Liam Neeson was in that.
Is he an important character?
Yeah, he's Obi-1 Canobi.
So did he shoot first?
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
Is that a joke?
He didn't chew first.
Yeah.
But he's,
so he's Obi-Wing-Kinobe.
So he's a good guy?
Yeah, yeah.
He trains Anakin Skywalker,
who then veers off the path and becomes Darth Vader,
but not before Darth Vader makes a little baby,
and little baby is Luke.
And then Luke is later on the planet of Tatooine?
But is Luke trained by Obi-
And then Obi-1-Kin-O-B.
It links up with Luke and it was like, oh my gosh,
you're, yes, I'm your father.
So then he goes to kill Darth and bats,
I am your father.
Jeff,
there you go.
There's a reference to that in Toy Story 5.
Oh,
I need to see Toy Story 5.
I love Toy Story 5.
Yeah, they say Buzz Light here says the Star Command or something.
Like, I am your father.
And whenever Isabel is watching, I'm like,
oh, that's like a Star Wars thing.
I don't get it.
but I feel like with some ball and gold mine of like making Grant watch all the Star Wars
and then just recording his commentary over it.
Wow.
That if I can monetize it, I'm in.
Yeah.
