Starting point is 00:00:00 All right, and welcome back to episode 082 of the OK podcast, powered by the Stranko. I'm your host, Grant Brogey, and we are recording live inside the Wes of the internet. Today's date, depending on where you are, is October the 30th. Coming up on Halloween, it's a scary time of year. In the year of our Lord, 2025, the price of Bitcoin is $110,864. 90 cents. So we're good. We're good. It's up $798 today. It's up 18% on the year. It's up 53% on the year. It's up 700% on five years. Not financial advice, but you should bet the Blue Jays and seven with Bitcoin because if you got one, you got the other. That's what I've
Starting point is 00:00:53 always said. In studio with me, I got Major Jeff Boogie from the greater Salt Lake City. area joining in resident skier ski season over there looks like he's been doing some running of sorts somewhere but not the Marine Corps marathon don't be confused and then on the road like always traveling um from the big city of Garland, Texas, Garland, Texas. We got a Mr. Robert Gottlitch the third. Anyone that doesn't know Garland Garland is in Dallas County some of it goes into
Starting point is 00:01:34 Collin and Rockwell counties it's located northeast of Dallas it's kind of part of the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex if you will population per capita that's how that works is 250,000 people per capita that's their population sit in an elevation of 551 feet
Starting point is 00:01:52 and most importantly my favorite thing about Garland is the stars at night or big and bright as you tray he's clapping yeah deep in the heart of garland oh garland garland that was the original lyrics the song and with that um i'll kick it over to the three for an update on the government shutdown in the meeting we're going to skip uh okay hold on let me update my uh sipper phone here uh yep government still definitely shut down doesn't seem like they're trying to do anything to unshut it down um and honestly it seems like things are working pretty okay
Starting point is 00:02:43 around here with the shutdown so yeah you know you know we're fine everything's fine we're all fine here the government shut down um i feel like there's more furniture in that that room back there. I just don't usually stand up. That chair's always there. I'm just finishing off my, my bricca. Oh, break it up.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Yep, garbage. Checking it again real quick. Still shut down. Still shut down. Do you have a, Jeff, do you have a bricca? I don't. No.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Still rocking the, still rocking the chemex right now. I still still explain to me. me the signs behind that real quick the Brickick So do you put the grounds in with the water? And then turn it like... Water? Water.
Starting point is 00:03:39 Water goes on the bottom. Hang on, hang on it. Okay. We get set up here. If you're not watching on YouTube, correct yourself because you're getting the good run down here of the Bricka. For those who want to buy it.
Starting point is 00:03:50 It's for sale. It's for sale. Always got sales on the mind. I love it. I do, man. Yeah, I'm pushing on brick. Look at that creamy, frothy head. I like that the day that we're tight on time, we start with a how-to on coffee. I wouldn't happen any other way, personally.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Brick up, bottom, water, four-cup, brick-up, good model. Technically, you should go 120 milliliters of water. I do about double. I'm after the volume. So I fell to the bottom of the nipple, above nipple, basket, basket, inside base, grinds, in basket. it. Okay. Toppy, top thingy, not a Fugazi, screwed on, top up so you can see pressure valve inside, spilling coffee on myself. Water gets hot. Homestchool education taught me when water gets hot, heat rises. It brings the water with it. It says, hey, water, get up there. You got to go
Starting point is 00:04:47 through this. Okay. I'm going with you. Water goes to pass through grounds and says, I'm now coffee. I was water. Now I'm coffee. And then it hits the plate. plunger, another roadblock, and it builds until it gets enough pressure to bust through the plunger, which creates the froth, the creamy, the crema, the head, whatever. It hits the plunger. It starts to come out, and it's just singing, free at last, free at last. And then it goes in there, and then it goes in my cup, and then the cup goes to my mouth, and the coffee goes to my body, and my stool leaves my butt.
Starting point is 00:05:24 And that is how coffee. That is that taste? How does it taste compare to like French press? Pretty good. I know what's on time. Different. More like an espresso. It's not an espresso.
Starting point is 00:05:34 I don't know for something to be espresso. You got to have nine bars of pressure. But it tastes more bitter like an espresso. I like the head on it. A French press. Yeah. No, there's going to be some like, I know we only have like five listeners,
Starting point is 00:05:50 but guaranteed one of them is like a coffee nerd. That's going to be super mad. Actually. according to my research interesting okay yeah I need one for sale
Starting point is 00:06:03 strength co you have a one point straight that co 1.25 pound plate right here also great coaster yeah
Starting point is 00:06:11 we should make a set the brick end plate set oh that's good that's good Christmas times are coming alright sorry I interrupted the meeting I apologize yeah
Starting point is 00:06:22 oh no the meeting the meeting is relevant That was a good sidebar. Yeah, keep those for the group. From anyone, anyone got anything for the group.
Starting point is 00:06:32 It seems like we got nothing going on. And the trash is just piling up. The civilian contractors are not coming by to pick up the trash. So I think what we're going to do, we have Marines, Marines go out there with their sea bags. We'll have them fill their sea bags with trash. They'll bring those back to their barracks.
Starting point is 00:06:47 And then they'll just hang on to the trash until we get a dumpster schedule or dumps schedule or dumps pickup scheduled. where there, then we'll have the Marines bring the sea bags full of trash that have been in their rooms back out to the dumpsters, put them in the dumpsters. They'll get hauled away at an undisclosed date when the government comes back on. Oh, April. All right, making sausage. Excuse me.
Starting point is 00:07:10 I'm the M-flak. I've actually never come to this meeting before. But now the government shut down, for some reason, I'm retained and paid. And so I thought maybe it was a good idea to come to meetings. I feel like this is the wrong meeting for me to be in. But I think the appropriations are going to run out unless we get a continuing resolution, which is unlikely. And so the Marines will most likely stop getting paid.
Starting point is 00:07:41 So I want to call to your attention a great organization called the Strength Co. They're throwing their annual turkey pole in Newport Beach, California. As an inflect, I have no idea with the Semperify, fund does, but I assume it's like always flexible, like the Marine Corps, and it's a good institution to give your money to. So December 6th in Newport Beach, California, you can go deadlift. It's meant for people like me who like aren't big powerlifting competitors or and powerlifting competitors and everyone in between, really. So really anywhere between me to Thor will be there. And yeah, I just want to shout that out. Thanks. I actually
Starting point is 00:08:20 have a meeting, so I have to go, but that's all I have for the group. That's the most productive staff meeting I think we've ever had. It's actually beneficial information. Love it. Okay, go ahead. Yeah, make sure you're passing that
Starting point is 00:08:33 passing that down to all your Marines, turkey pole, Coast of Mesa, California, Strength Co, get their t-shirts, sign up, pull a deadlift, pull some turkey. It's a good time. You're going to love it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:48 You always do love it. I got the shirt. should be come my way at some point time. Yeah, I'll get to read fine print. Yeah. This ship, uh, second week of November, something like that. In time for thanks. At some point in time.
Starting point is 00:09:01 At some point in time. You're right. Just like the government. At some point in time, it'll, it'll come back. Yeah. I think it'll be back at some point in time. At some point in time. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, this podcast is brought to you by BW Tax.
Starting point is 00:09:15 BW Tax. Tax. Great guy. Better at taxes. Head on over to BW Tax LLC.com. Remember, when you're a Marine or it doesn't matter what state you live in, if you're in the boondocks, if you're military, if you're non-military, if you're non-military types, you know, if you're on a base and you go in and it says tax season is closed, no, no, no, no, no, you're viewing it all wrong. It's always tax season at BW tax. You get a real person on the other end of the phone, ready to answer your calls, and go through the complex issues that is the IRS, especially during a government shutdown.
Starting point is 00:09:50 I mean, there's probably, there should be some kind of refund for that. So get with BW Tax.BW.Tax LLC.com. We love. He's not for a load. No. BW is standing by for your calls. Do we want to, Trey, you got any lifting updates? No, I'm going to questions.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Okay. Go on push. Okay. Where do you go ahead, push? I want to push. I want to hear about this little marathon you ran. Yeah, what you got going over there? Hevel the hog?
Starting point is 00:10:22 Yeah, we went. So last weekend. Which one was it? So it was, there were a bunch of, like, distances as part of it, but it was called the Canyonlands Ultra. But it wasn't an Ultramarathon, but there was. Candyland? Canyonlands. Ah.
Starting point is 00:10:38 Oh, Canyon land. You're moving your candy ass. Yeah, I would sign up for a Candyland one, though. If that is out there, I'm going to find it. I'm going to sign up for it. It's your candy ass through that Canyon, boy. But yeah, so it was down like near Moab, Utah, which is kind of like where Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, hence the name. It's like three and a half hours from Salt Lake City, drove down there, whether it was super beautiful, super beautiful, just like red rock, all sorts of canyons and views that are almost like Grand Canyon-esque, if you will, but less people.
Starting point is 00:11:14 And then, uh, sounds terrible. Yeah, Moab is a really interesting place because it's just like, weird cross-section of like you get rock climbers that are like super crunchy in granola you get people that are into like spiritual mystic healing sort of like a sedona Arizona kind of vibe you get people that are really into like trail running river rafting and then there's like the whole like off-road vehicle like side-by-side Polaris people that are out there with like their big for about their big rigs yeah they're like dirt bike people and they all converge on the web you get people that believe the ark of the covenant floated down the mississippi river like it's just a lot of
Starting point is 00:11:57 those yeah a lot and let me tell you on a friday night the grocery store is unheaned she just no one's paying attention you have every type of vehicle in the parking lot so that was kind of our first experience was was navigating the park or was navigating the grocery store to pick up some stuff and it was I was highly ridden with anxiety because no one was paying attention. There's just children running everywhere. You got something to get kids? What time the race kickoff?
Starting point is 00:12:23 It started at, so Saturday morning at seven. So not super early. How far did you go? How far are we? Oh, so it was a marathon. I think so there was all kind of different distances Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:38 So we did the marathon. There were people that did 100K,000. That's about 16. miles and then they're going to do a 50-mile or there's people that did a 50k which is about 30 miles if you're into 50 half marathon just do 60 might as well so let's do 60 did you do like a reverse year or more kind of like a low and slow oh we went low and low and slow it was uh it was pretty good my favorite part about these long races right you get you get to push a lot of chow during the race that's good you got to keep up
Starting point is 00:13:13 Was this your first marathon? First marathon. Yeah. I think the longest that I'd done was like a 15-mile thing a few years back. But yes. Tough doing install. Yeah. Five hours, four and a half.
Starting point is 00:13:26 We went, we went, oh, God, Lord, no. It's seven and a half. Hell, yeah. It was a strong pace. Our goal was the finish. You know, it wasn't like a, it wasn't a ton of like uphill vertical gain, but there was enough at points. and then the trail got a little rocky and technical at some points.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Oh, okay. But it was good. It was fun. That time, I think you're ready for Boston. Oh, yeah. Let me tell you. I'm ready. I'm ready to go.
Starting point is 00:13:56 But no, I'd do another. I would do another marathon. I would do the Marine Corps. Let's sign up for the Marine Corps. Let's do it next year. All right. I'm in. No balls.
Starting point is 00:14:03 I'm in. I'm in. I'm in. I'm in. I'm in. I'm in. I'm in. I'm in.
Starting point is 00:14:07 I'm in. Trey. I've already done one. I've done the game for a live podcast. during the Marine Corps Marathon. Think of all the chow we could push. I do the half. Half's more my, that's kind of like.
Starting point is 00:14:20 So just do the half twice while we do the full. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Don't wait. I was crushing uncrustables, these like packets of Vermont maple syrup, gummies.
Starting point is 00:14:34 We'll do the half with you. That's nice. And then we'll just like keep going after it. Yeah. Hey, Trey, just here's, all my stuff. Meet me every two miles with snacks. I would do that, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:48 For those that I'll know, the Marine Corps Marathon did happen. A couple of shoutouts. Andy Sweet. Grant's Buddy's buddy type. Finished. Good time. 340, something like that. Kyle King.
Starting point is 00:15:03 Got to get him on the pod. Major type. Serve with him on a few different occasions. He won for the fourth time. So it was texting right out. after it. So he's up on the net. Sar Major Hibbard, 14th Marine Sar Major ran in a red strength
Starting point is 00:15:18 coat T-shirt. I think he was right around four hours. Lieutenant Cross Select Kevin Bishop out of third battalion, 11th Marines, ran it. I don't know what his time was, but his whole family who's out there. He's been training it with the Thunder Run Club. Does not listen to
Starting point is 00:15:36 the podcast, unfortunately, but hopefully good guy did not run Marathon. Matt Lohen tells him in between his bites of his wife's keesh that he's mentioned on the pot. So congrats to our Marine Corps Marathon potential sponsor of the OK podcast. Ooh, I like that.
Starting point is 00:15:53 Nice, nice. I had something real quick. Yeah, I know we're on a tight timeline. You sent me something. I don't think I'm going to find it. Grant Brain Fogg. going on. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Yeah, maybe it wasn't you. Yeah, wasn't you? Nope, wasn't you? But it applies to you, but not really. It was Tanner posted on Instagram. I haven't even made this comment yet and probably never will. But he posted on, he sent me a photo of his son, killing a deer, which I was like, good job, you know, whatever.
Starting point is 00:16:35 And then I saw he posted the shot, bow shot from a blind in South Dakota of him killing like a little six point big deer uh big deer shouldn't said little uh yeah anyway young deer uh shooting them with a bow and then i didn't listen to it was sound on so i don't know if like tanner's voice is in it probably not because they're hunting but then the caption said like jack killed i don't know if it was his first deer or something with his buddy really proud of them. They did everything by themselves. And I was like, is this
Starting point is 00:17:11 Jack's buddy, like Grant's buddy? Like, or was that Tanner? And I meant to comment that and I forgot. So this kind of stuff. Anyway, moving on. We'll get that on the, in the back end. Yeah, we'll get you on the back end for that.
Starting point is 00:17:26 I didn't get enough crew support for our little South Dakota support last week. I'm a little upset with that. So, yeah, I'm a little upset with that too. Yeah. Well, not the outcome of the game. We all knew. they were going to lose.
Starting point is 00:17:36 I can't believe you actually picked them. But, you know, that was a joke pick. Gray and I had a joke pick. We'll call it joke pick. You know, just talk about the game for a minute, rambling. It's a joke pick. Guys, I take what we come up with in this little democracy here. Yeah, the team.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Like, yeah, we're a team. We win. I appreciate the dedication, but I don't know if I would do the same if I was in your show. Yeah, going forward, it's now a dictatorship, yeah. Before we're on a trade. Tray's Picks of the week, brought to you by the FK podcast as we've done every week. I think we quickly recap last week, expeditiously. And so I'll just tell you, Gamecocks were close, but not close enough.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Horsesues and gangrenades. Man, that was close. I thought, I was at the, the Bama game. Yeah. That's rough. Yeah. That was too. They were up until, what was it like the last?
Starting point is 00:18:32 Oh, bear. Parked in a holler, neat the mountain. Moonlight, roll, tight, hold her up tight against the wall. Make a little love it on that. I see a real. Auburn. Yeah. And they won.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Yeah. I ended up going with the backup quarterback. So, hey, good job. He frees made a good choice. Yeah. And then needed the defense. Needed every bit of, yeah, the defense had to win that one. I was waiting for that game.
Starting point is 00:19:02 I was like, the defense is going to win us one game this year. Hey, defense won. one's championships. A, so you know what that means? Yep. Auburn's going to win a football game. I was going to win a football game. Oh my God. Texan and put an old beat
Starting point is 00:19:17 down on the bayou. Cost a man, his job. Hey, that escalated quickly. That guy's a jerk. That stadium emptied. Yeah. Do you see the Louisiana governor talking about? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:32 That video I sent you. Dude. I love it. I love it. Grant, you need to watch that whenever you get a chance. Yeah, I did not. The Louisiana governor from South Louisiana has the thickest Cajun accent. Just talking about. More than Ed Oregon?
Starting point is 00:19:49 Oh, yeah. He's not like a cartoon character. You're like this guy got elected? He's like a swamp people wearing a suit. That's what he sounds like. Did you drop it in the chat? Yeah, I said. I need you dropping in, like, this forge chat.
Starting point is 00:20:07 But, yeah. I'm talking about Slack. If you're not a Slack member, click the link down below in the show notes and join Slack. Use Code OK. Okay. You want to get in these picks? Let's get these picks.
Starting point is 00:20:21 LSU didn't hire anyone, right? No, yeah. Yeah. And everyone wants to hire Lane Kiven. Yeah. Yeah. It's kind of the. It's kind of what happened this week.
Starting point is 00:20:31 He's between Florida. Yeah. I think Florida Penn State and LSU or all trying to hire him. And Vanderbiscuit. Why? I don't know. What is he done? Man.
Starting point is 00:20:44 I don't know. Nothing. I saw the, who's the old Penn State coach? James Franklin? Joe Paterno. He's rumored to go to Virginia Tech. Oh. The Citadel, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:58 I heard he was going to Citadel. Some people are saying, Shane Beamer. going to go to Virginia Tech to get off the hot seat. Nah. You think he's on the hot seat? I don't think his seat's very comfortable. Yeah, but I think if you... I don't think it should be...
Starting point is 00:21:17 I think it's a little toasty right now. I think it's pretty toasty. I mean, if he beats like Old Miss and Clemson and the Citadel somehow... First of all, a few beats Clemson. Clemson. Clemson? When's Dabby?
Starting point is 00:21:34 He's fired. I mean, I'm with Dabo. I hate Dabo. I want Dabba to be fired. But the fact, like, that he's having one bad year, two national championships, like six ACC's,
Starting point is 00:21:48 like his little, like, crash outs, as the kids say, over his coaching career. I'm like, I would say the same thing if I had that record. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:21:56 you guys want to come for me now? Like, how about the rings I brought you? But I hope they fire him anyway. How did we do last week? Man, we, good news we tied for second, but I feel like we tied everybody got second, essentially. One guy got, one guy got 80 points. We got everyone else got 60, so.
Starting point is 00:22:19 Not that bad. We missed on the ones that the old miss, we picked OU, which in hindsight. And we freaking South Dakota, let us know. Hey, they weren't dead until the end. And we would have, we were the only ones who picks South Dakota. That would have been, see, see, it's, hey, you got to take some risk if you want to move up. Monday morning quarterback, you want to win? Like Bill Belichick went for two.
Starting point is 00:22:48 Didn't work out, but I'm like, this, this team's got a future. Yeah, if we all have the same picks, then no one can win. Yeah, we don't want that. What do you want everyone to get a trophy tray? That's fair enough. but so we're still still in second so we're still in the hunt okay two games back so and now it's time for tray's picks of the week tray's picks of the week brought to you by the okay podcast good intro is done it crunch yeah um we've always done this so yeah all right first game first
Starting point is 00:23:23 game we have is we had vanderbilt going to awesome to play texas oh man See, I feel I picked Texas. I feel like their defense matches up well. So I can convince. All varsity's horns up. Sure. Like, I want to jump off the Vanderbilt kind of like hype train, but they, I think they got something special this year, it seems like.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Oh, is it? 68% of the people pick Vanderbilt, so we're not in the minority. I'm with the people. We got Duke going to Clemson playing the Tigers lowercase T. You know where my heart is. Duke? Yeah, Steve's Perrier, coach there, the Tigers. There's only one Death Valley, and it's Duke in Louisiana.
Starting point is 00:24:22 Was. Jeff, who you got? You got Duke? too? Yeah, I think so. What's Duke record? They're having a pretty good year, right? They're decent.
Starting point is 00:24:36 They're four and three. Yeah, that's great. That's a great year for Duke. Clemson's three and four, so. I think Clemson wins that game. Yeah, I had to Clemson originally, too. Make a note. Make a note.
Starting point is 00:24:50 Make a note. Make a note. Note made. All right, we have the Navy midshipman going to North Texas. Give me, give me them mids. Undefeated. Anchors away. Yep.
Starting point is 00:25:04 It should be a good game. Navy 7-0, North Texas, 7-1, so it should be pretty good. Navy's funny to watch me. They're fine to watch me. Oh, yeah. I hope, yeah, I hope they get run out of the building, North Texas. All right, so we got Arizona State going to Iowa State. Arizona State 5 and 3, Iowa State also 5 and 3.
Starting point is 00:25:22 Oh, Battle of the 5 and 3s. Yeah. 6-7. I'm going home team. me too home team Iowa State Iowa State's usually pretty good in home
Starting point is 00:25:36 so that's a pretty good pick up that next we got Texas State going to Kansas State who picks these games yeah what what conference are you in like what kind of league is this yeah
Starting point is 00:25:50 this what in the world it seems to be Big 12 heavy yeah well ACC Big 12 yeah okay all right Texas Tech
Starting point is 00:26:00 7 and 1 going to Kansas State 4 and 4 wait did we pick that last or different is this no we haven't
Starting point is 00:26:09 we have picked this one yeah red Raiders red raiders okay yeah yeah yeah guns up
Starting point is 00:26:15 I feel like I feel like that's pretty safe Kansas state's been on a heater so I wouldn't be surprised but what's next South Texas
Starting point is 00:26:23 versus Western Texas close we got Virginia going to Cal close East coast to West Coast I like Virginia though I'm going Virginia
Starting point is 00:26:33 I think that going to the West Coast is tough though no you go back in time right making a note you got cow golden bears I got the golden bears next
Starting point is 00:26:49 one of my favorite teams this year we got Georgia Tech going to NC State I've been I really like watching Georgia Tech play Rambling wreck from Georgia Tech. Yeah, I'm going, I'm going to
Starting point is 00:27:00 He's going to Wolfpack. I just want to throw up the Wolfpack. If you're not watching YouTube, go Wolfpack. I got to. What city? What town is that in? Raleigh. Is that a cool town?
Starting point is 00:27:15 Yeah, very cool. Right downtown. Okay. Raleigh's like, Raleigh, I live in Raleigh, Road, College. NC State is like South Carolina Gamecox. A lot of Facebook. fans, a lot of good fans, never quite do it, you know, and Chapel Hills, your Clemson,
Starting point is 00:27:34 a bunch of pretentious people that think they're better than everyone that somehow win things and the Citadel's like the Duke, you know, that's how that's how the state breaks. Oh, okay. That tracks. Okay. All right. Next, we got OU traveling to Neeland Stadium playing Tennessee. give me the balls i got the balls too i feel like that's unanimous right there next we got the all lowercase USC um southern cow whatever whatever you say that you just say southern cow uh i i sometimes say USCW um southern cow going to nebraska oh go big red you got Nebraska okay no I'm just like saying that
Starting point is 00:28:30 I got Southern Cal too I know Nebraska's busting out there like all black uniforms for like the first time or something like that they're still like they're still in the hunt if they went out they're 602 right now this is it's a big game because whoever loses this I got Southern
Starting point is 00:28:50 Cal but whoever loses that game is out of the playoffs essentially so All right. Last one, we have Cincinnati, who's real fun to watch, going to Utah. Pretty good. Yeah. Ooh. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:29:04 Ooh. I think college game day is coming to that one, I think. Hmm. I got to go. Someone's coming to the game. I don't know. Maybe it's not. Maybe it's the port now.
Starting point is 00:29:18 It wouldn't be Portnoy's crew. He's got some kind of game day thing now. Yeah. Cincinnati at Utah, week 10. Cincinnati, Utah. I got the bear cats. I got to go with the Uts. I think since he's going to win,
Starting point is 00:29:32 but, you know, as a as a Eutonian. Oh, you're just going just because of loyalty. Yeah. To the geography. I get it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:45 All right, tiebreaker. I got, I got Bear Cats. I got Bear Cats. Jeff has the Uts. Okay. No bear cats. Now, for your bonus game,
Starting point is 00:29:53 pick of the week. Usually takes you to Columbia, South Carolina. line or wherever they're going. It's shock. Oldest rivalry in the Southern Conference, 106 games played. Some would call it because that's what it's called the military classic of the South. You got your Citadel Bulldogs taking on your Virginia Military Institute keyed ass going in Florida, Silver Shako, at the Citadel, at Johnson-Higood. Citil's played two really good games last two weeks, done a lot of, like, really cool
Starting point is 00:30:29 formations, long-eye formations to throw a go-ball, all kind of stuff happening. They've lost both. They're actually playing decent football. But they're all good doing it. You know, they're having fun out there. You can tell. You put all that aside, and I got Citadel. Oh, yeah, I got to go to Citadel.
Starting point is 00:30:58 I didn't, yeah, I always forget, VMI has a football team. Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to Citadel. Okay. I think it's solid picks, boys, solid picks. I can't stay in VMI, man. Worse, the worst people ever.
Starting point is 00:31:12 They're the worst, they're the worst. They're the worst. I'd prefer people from Norway. like one one normal person for VMI and I can't remember that'd be great to meet you should should have trapped him made him the school president I mean like hey show me show me your diploma I don't think you're actually yeah yeah should have studied them yeah yeah that's what they call it Trey's picks of the weeks wow love Trey's picks of the week really good sponsored by BW Tad Johnson Johnson Johnson oh
Starting point is 00:31:47 Oh, Mr. Helmut. We've been selling some helmets. Been selling some helmets. Hey. Thanks Helmut people for going to buy some helmets. I was on a, uh, I was on an A&M forum. Did you post the link? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:00 I go, someone goes, hey, where do I buy helmets? I go, here's a link for you, bro. Boom. Did you grab it from the show notes? So we got credit for the sales. Uh, yeah. Or did you just. Uh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:10 Big commission guy. That's right. Yeah. trade's like oh we get paid for that weird yeah of course i grabbed this special my phone is learned lesson learned lesson learned yeah yeah uh world series update i said blue jays and seven i think it's looking like blue jays and seven blue jays win today yeah so it's three two three two and they're going wait they're going to toronto yes oh potentially close it out right Yeah, well, so it's two, it's, what, it's two, three, two in World Series.
Starting point is 00:32:50 So they split, they split in Toronto at the open, and then Toronto took two in L.A., it's three, two. You had that 18 inning game, which was incredible. Great for me on a different time zone to be able to be able to, like, be able to, like, tune in in the ninth inning and watch a whole baseball game. but yeah so Blue Jays and 7 like I've said the whole time that's what you see yeah you said that originally I said I think I think I mean here's how Blue Jays and 7 works
Starting point is 00:33:28 the games can go back Toronto and the Blue Jays are going to lose therefore forcing game 7 and then in game 7 the Blue Jays are going to win which would validate Blue Jays and 7 which would that checks out the Jays to win it yeah that's right yeah that checks out that man checks out this is this is that's exactly the opposite i think i said l.A to sweep in four so yeah that didn't work out so well for you
Starting point is 00:33:54 yeah that wouldn't great and yet you don't listen to my notes that is true i don't wow all right next topic okay do we want to hit chow talk yes all right i got an update i got an update i got an update i got an update i got an update Grant's buddy started putting on the uniform every day, January 2nd. First he goes, it's 20-9 Palms. There's three chow halls. And do you guys remember how many functioning ice cream machines were? Zero, I believe.
Starting point is 00:34:28 There was zero and then I fixed the one. And when I say fixed, I mean, I put the handle out of it. There's one, three chow halls, one ice cream machine, one flavor, only one handle. Since that day, there's not been a serviceable ice cream machine machine. anywhere I've gone. But as of today, we got vanilla ice cream back. It's big news.
Starting point is 00:34:49 It's really big news. It is like really big news. But of course, no one knows it because they just assume it's broken. So don't even walk over there. So more for me. But yeah, anyway,
Starting point is 00:35:00 that's chow hall update. Are you checking daily on like the status of ice cream? Yeah. Are you kidding me? Every single day. It's like, why would you, there's an ice cream machine in the corner.
Starting point is 00:35:11 And if you don't think, I haven't been asking, like, if you don't think that the chow whole staff does not know who Major Brogey is, my buddy, you need to think again because from the homeboy cooking the eggs to the guy that fills the cottage cheese to the dude who's over the clonliness of the bathroom, they're tracking. They are tracking. And they like me. Yeah, they like me. When that jelly was out for a month and they wanted to blame Japanese contractors, oh, let me just put it. a couple ice complaints, all right? We got jelly again. We got jelly. So they are tracking. They're tracking very well on how Chow's supposed to work. All right. I picture you every day
Starting point is 00:35:54 going to the staff and be like, hey, guys, just so you know the ice cream machine is still not working. Yep, just like that. That's verbatim. Yeah. Hey, yeah. Guess what? Been here seven months. No ice cream. Crazy. yep yeah but they fixed it well hey get on them better let than never the loud italian gets the grease yeah who said that socrates no Leonardo Leonardo DiCaprio yeah yeah anyway sorry Jeff chow talk no it's good it's good that's that's like chow talk adjacent so that's good that's yeah and I like it I like it um all right this this week's chow talk come on sushi
Starting point is 00:36:43 I feel like us three we have we have consumed a lot of sushi together and then probably you can eventually as well but like we've gone into some some sushi restaurants and blown their minds with how much we've consumed before I know that
Starting point is 00:36:58 and their minds must be small or like we're already very close to explosion because I don't feel like we push so much chow I mean it doesn't to us doesn't seem like a lot yeah it was a ton of
Starting point is 00:37:12 sushi. But, like, you know, when you like finished. Dana Point. Remember that we went there? And that lady's like was flabbergasted. Just like with how many she would finish it before she would bring the next roll out.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Oh, I'll go get the. Oh, we have two more coming out. Oh, yeah. Keep them coming. Keep them coming, man. She's like, how can these guys afford this habit? Not adjacent. Is pokey sushi? no i feel like it's something i mean i agree but like is what makes sushi sushi the rawness
Starting point is 00:37:49 of the fish uh you know i don't know the technical or the sue of the she i thought it was like the chef making it i mean they make okay like that didn't let's not like a product of the big bang somebody's got like cut up the fish toss it and stuff I feel like it's a different like thing in that I think I think trade is kind of honestly
Starting point is 00:38:18 the preparation of it whereas like any old any old 15 year old in San Clemente California can not true can toss some rice and some salmon and some tuna and some
Starting point is 00:38:33 edamame in a bowl I'm with the pokey chefs, okay? They don't get enough respect. Rodney Dangerfield over there. I do like pokey a lot, but I like good, I'd be different. Yeah. All right, well, we'll say that for another week. See, that I would say,
Starting point is 00:38:49 but like, I go to, my new thing I always get is shishimi. Well, sashimi. That's, that's, that's, that's not sushi. I mean, I don't think when the the Japanese artisans that decided to make sushi ever envisioned
Starting point is 00:39:06 deep frying a oh, no. California roll either. So we're going to say that's not sushi? No, that's sushi. That's just like, when you pack a teaspoon, a cream cheese into a roll that is what Mr.
Starting point is 00:39:26 sushi himself envisioned when he invented it many centuries ago. Mr. Otagato Gizimus pictured. I don't know the history of sushi. Probably by the fridge. Okay, here's the definition of sushi from the Oxford Language Dictionary. A Japanese dish consisting of small balls or rolls of vinegar-flavored cold-cooked rice served with a garnish of raw fish, vegetables, or egg. So it says nothing about rolls.
Starting point is 00:39:55 So I guess pokey is technically sushi. I think what it's after is that there's a clump of rice with a raw fish garnish. or egg or vegetables little hood for vegetables stupid well a little cucumber in there kind of nice
Starting point is 00:40:14 I like it and I like it not by itself oh no no no no no no you guys tracking hyia zushi Hayezushi so sushi's from the 8th century
Starting point is 00:40:26 Hyazushi 17th century faster fast food version began to develop just tracking that post-war War II started, you're welcome. That's where the spread started.
Starting point is 00:40:39 Post World War II, you're welcome. I don't know. I would imagine it. Does your buddy have any good sushi spots out there? American adaptation. In the United States, sushi underwent significant alterations. You don't say. Often incorporating ingredients like mayonnaise, cream cheese, and cook seafood.
Starting point is 00:41:00 They're like, you know what this needs? This is sushi stuff. It's not that good. We need to pack some cream cheese and mayonnaise in this thing. You know why? Because we're from the sand. Garland, Garland, Texas. Darling.
Starting point is 00:41:24 Is you get two spots that your buddy's found out there? Yeah. I've actually, so I will be 100% honest. And Mr. Yakamoto might be. offended. I've eaten more pokey. I've gone to eat more pokey here than I have sushi. It's a pokey spot that I really like.
Starting point is 00:41:42 It's my favorite food on Ireland, as they say. What I do like about the pokey here, it's similar to how I had it in Hawaii is California's great pokey. If you go to South Carolina, don't order pokey. That ain't happening. You're not going to like the outcome. Just don't do it.
Starting point is 00:42:00 California has good pokey, but in California, they mix it all, which is good. It's just like a different thing out here. I've only been to Hawaii once, but I did eat pokey a lot. I was there. Out here, it's like there's rice in the side, and then on the other side, there's the fish, you know, in your sauces or whatever. So I've had more pokey than I have had sushi, but I have had a lot of sushi.
Starting point is 00:42:24 I think I told the story about the conveyor belt sushi. I struggled to operate. I've had a couple different spots. Yeah, it's good out here. I mean, I think the baseline's just, like, way higher. You know, if you're on the East Coast and I'm an East Coast guy, but it's like if there's six sushi spots in your town, like two are bad, two are like bad, but not as bad,
Starting point is 00:42:48 and then like two are edible. Whereas like out here, you walk and get sushi anywhere and it's good. It's probably better than most of what you have. And it's cheap. They are everywhere I go here, generally I'm in a pack of like five, six foot one, 220 pound white English speaking males and they're always just kind of like, whoa. And so they're, yeah, they, similar to when we go eat dinner, there's people are kind of shocked at the chow push. So you just keep sushi rolls coming. I like, I think I like shishimi the most. I do like a roll. If I'm
Starting point is 00:43:23 going with a roll though, I mean, this is just my default. I like spice. Like I want a jalapeno on whatever it is, like every single time if I'm going roll. But And shishimi is my thing and a lot of wasabi out here they got wasabi oil you guys tracking wasabi oil no no tracking so rather than take the little petri dish and put the soy sauce and add in the wasabi and mix it all up and then after one piece of sushi all the wasabi's gone you have to send the wage of tris back 17 times you get you more wasabi just on the table there's a thing a wasabi oil so it's like liquefied wasabi well let me tell you be careful with that yeah clear the sinus is right up oh yeah Yeah, that'll wait.
Starting point is 00:44:06 That sounds so much more efficient. It's so much more efficient, so much better. I'll send you a bottle. I'll send you a care package. You probably miss me. Yeah, send one, two. Yeah, I'll send you a care package. That's no point guy.
Starting point is 00:44:19 Yeah, I'll send you a care package. Yeah. But don't put me nicotine. No nicotine. No nicotine. No nicotine. Just wasabi oil. Just wasabi.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Okay. Okay. Okay. Yeah, about you, Trey? Trey. Do you have preferred sushi spot nearby? Man, yeah, there's some good spots around here. Like I said, I don't, I probably don't know good.
Starting point is 00:44:43 I feel like California had really good sushi. And so that was probably, it's kind of like the bar that I said. So I'd say good, but it's probably not as good as the West Coast. I don't know, there is a conveyor belt sushi place that's relatively close. Pretty good. That we're fans of. The sushi is okay. but I like it because every time
Starting point is 00:45:03 you finish a plate, you put it in this machine and you get points. And so I'm like... And then the points at the end are turned into a dollar value and it's called the bill. So they do have that. So you win the bill,
Starting point is 00:45:19 but you also like, if you do like 10 plates, you get like a small little Japanese prize, like a toy. I think this is phenomenal. You win the bill. So easy. So easy to cater to Texans.
Starting point is 00:45:35 We're at nine plates. About to win the little plastic figurine. Pokemon's going to fall out of the machine. So a big fan of that place, yeah. Just because the door prizes that come with it, yeah. I got the old thing is. Yeah. Business model.
Starting point is 00:45:54 Jeff? We have not found really anywhere super great as far as like. Nowhere we've been back to. Every sushi place we've been to here has been a one. What in Salt Lake City? That's surprising. Hasn't, we haven't found one yet. But I don't know, it's been a minute since we've got sushi here.
Starting point is 00:46:14 But I do love, I love sushi, man. Like sushi guys. Crush, crush three, three plates of rolls. Oof, love it. Right. There was a place in California we would go to, and it was, Jeff, what was it? Like, was the one in Carl's bad? if you get to yeah if you get 10 plates you get it half off some ridiculous this is like this game
Starting point is 00:46:36 over yeah crazy some ridiculous discount for like a a threshold that was like not difficult for tree and I to reach it was like seven you get like six rolls then you get 50% off your bill in Texas we call that an appetizer yeah I'm gonna crush six rolls by myself I hate to do it to thousands of listeners, but we got to bring this thing in for landing. Let's do it, man. That's your job, Tray. All right, I'm going to go ahead and do it. All right, episode. 082.
