A Rio original podcast.
Coming up.
Proxima.
X.
X.
M.
Yes.
We need to do one full episode of Lost in Translation
without mentioning a freaking coffee machine.
I used to have a monkey.
He's called Brian.
I love when they go like...
Worrying is like being on a rocking horse
because it's something to do,
but it gets you nowhere.
By triple, you're stepping.
Dribble?
Triple.
Like, like trip.
Trip up.
Lost in translation.
You've had your hair cut and you're covering it up with a hat
and your hair looks lovely at the minute.
Thanks.
Oh, it's been styled.
He said it's shorter but thicker.
That makes sense.
It doesn't, because she's been like always.
No, it's not. It's different.
It only took her seven years to give me a compliment
after I came back from the haircut anyway.
That's not true.
It's very true.
That is not true.
It is true.
I have to go.
I had a haircut.
No.
I said to you.
you yesterday. I like I was done you.
Yes, yesterday. Seven years after. No, that's not true.
All right then.
Welcome to another episode. Another episode of Lost in Translation. Episode 48.
47. 47. Your age.
It's not my age. You said that last week. You're going to keep saying this every single
week. Yes. Just because you're now 36 and thriving.
Jim, I convince yourself, you're 47.
I hope I get to 47. I have no fear of aging.
You are like 47 full of Botox.
Me?
Yes.
Come on.
Admit it.
I've not had any bow-tox pal.
I'm just wanting your app for all those like listening.
You see?
This is Gemma and Gawker.
This is our podcast Lost in Translation.
This is our lovely coffee machine.
Which is amazing.
Producer Henry's here and Tom.
Say hello guys.
Hi-ho.
Hello.
And yeah, this is a judgment-free zone.
We listen, we don't judge.
We solve dilemmas.
We play games.
But my favorite bit about this show is hearing from me.
The coffee.
No, hearing from you guys.
The messages we have that come in, it's brilliant.
We have loads of them.
Today, actually, we have loads.
We will read them out shortly.
But this week, what's been going on?
Well, it's been going on.
I'm going to go on the road again, short period of time.
With the Christmas show, X-Mas on the dance floor.
So, round of applause, please.
X-Mis!
Put a applause here.
The X-Mis on the dance floor.
And the tickets are already in sale.
I know.
So if you're going to go and book it,
they went on sale of my birthday
What a gift for you all guys
It's funny because he's not doing strictly this year
I was like oh my gosh
So the build up to Christmas we'll do together
Father Christmas shopping
We'll do all that together
And then the offer for a talk made
And he went
Jamar
I've been asked to go on tour
And I went where and he went
The way before Christmas
I went oh okay
Yeah that'd be good
But it looks brilliant
Smart
He is smart
He is smart
It leaves it all to me
And how funny
I live the weekend of your birthday
I know
God, do you know what, it's fine.
I'm joking, it's not a weekend of your birthday.
It's the last week of November.
Oh, so my birthday is.
To be honest, it's only a week of rehearsals and ten shows.
It's not that long.
No, it'd be good, and I love that it's near Christmas
because I'm a sucker for a Christmas show.
I go to the pantomime every year.
I genuinely love it.
I love watching Christmasy bits.
Yeah.
So we will 100% come and watch it.
We're going to do it.
I want to wish you a Merry Christmas.
I want to wish.
Did I tell you?
I did tell you dinner about.
So the show's called, what's it called?
Xmas.
Exmas on the dance floor.
Bearing in mind it ain't even my show.
Nothing to do with me other than my other half is in the show.
And I'd shared the poster, because obviously I'm very proud of Gorka.
Someone messaged me saying they were disappointed in me because I took Christ out of Christmas.
Because it was X.
I was like, what are you on about?
It's nothing to do with me.
You know what?
People just, I always say that's something I want.
What you do, there's always going to be someone picking and saying something and not played with something.
So get that eggs and go ever yourself.
You took Christ out of Christmas.
I didn't.
I always go to church.
Well, I used to when I was younger every Christmas.
And we go and watch me in church every Christmas.
Yeah.
But I should have said to her.
Channel that anger at Gorka, not me.
Can we do a game?
Let's send requests of songs to you like, which is your favorite Christmas song?
Maybe we can do a dance to that song.
It's a bit early yet for Christmas songs, isn't it?
No, no, not in the show.
They can send a list of the Christmas songs that they like it,
so maybe I can put into the show.
Okay.
That makes sense.
Maybe I can be the top three songs of the listeners,
and I make the dances for the show.
You know, I know me.
I already want X, M, yes.
Send, video, dance into XMass song by Kylie Minogue.
X, M, yes.
That's the song, XM, yeah?
Because the show.
show is called X-MAS.
So, dance to that song.
Put the Christ out of Christmas.
Dance to XMAS.

Is there a show on the 22nd?
No, it feels on the 20th.
Oh, okay.
Only because we've got the Panto book for the 22nd.
No, but it feels on the 20th.
Okay.
It's solely from the first show.
It's on the 5th.
It's on the 20th.
I've had to request that week off work.
I've put loads of Christmas activities without actually booking the time off work.
So I made Tool and email them yesterday.
I said, you email them, Tool and just CC me in.
So he said, me and Gemma would like this time.
So we'll see.
Nice.
In 22nd, I'm going Panto, I'm afraid.
That's what I do at Christmas.
So that's what happened this week.
It has been announced.
And there is another one coming soon also, another announcement.
Oh, yes.
Another announcement.
Yeah, so yeah, very interesting couple of weeks.
Well, with all that information about Christmas,
we peek very early with X-Mus.
Without further ado,
Bermonos!
Debate time.
Is it?
I've got two.
It's nothing really bad.
It's just two things that have happened
when I've thought, frig me.
Okay, go ahead.
The first one is you probably know the egg one.
Do you remember my eggs yesterday?
Yeah.
I had some eggs on the hob boiling,
because I'd take eggs into work as my snack
and they went in the pan at about 10 past
and I had to run upstairs, get myself ready
and sort of the kids and I said to go,
can you do me a favour?
Can you take these out 20 pass for me?
He said, yeah, yeah, no problem.
So I went up, got sorted.
As I'm coming down the stairs at 10 too,
I'm like, pooh, what's that smell?
I come in the kitchen.
He was sat watching someone on his laptop
and within reach my eggs in a dry pan
were just sat there.
It wasn't dry.
Well, you wasn't dry.
And I was like, oh.
So by the time I got them to work, I was peeling them.
They were like, it was like a dull orange.
All the white had been burnt badly.
So I only got to eat two of them.
And then the second one, something happened this morning.
Again, but I'm thinking, I don't know if you'd forgot about it or not.
I got up really early this morning.
I set my alarm for half five so I could train before we came here.
And it was still dark in the morning when I got up.
That was depressing.
And it was dark till about quarter past six.
You're used to it.
And I did all my legs in the gym.
And then I went to go in the garage,
because you got a hack squat and a leg station in the garage.
And as I opened the garage door,
I was half asleep.
My legs were like jelly.
I tripped on the Hoover.
And Mia was up at this point.
Mia laughed.
And I said, who's put that there?
And she said, it wasn't me.
And the Hoover was just left,
just down the step of the.
garage still plugged in.
So then I was thinking, what were you hoovering in the garage?
Were you hoovering in the garage?
No, I hover the whole garage, but then I stopped because Mia was calling me.
So I left it there.
So you'd forgot.
That's what I thought.
I thought he clearly forgot because the Hoover lives in the Hoover cottage.
I'm not like you that leave everything everywhere.
But yeah, I nearly broke my neck on a Henry Hoover this morning.
But that's it.
You almost broke there.
You didn't, so it's fine.
No, exactly.
What about yours?
My one is, so remember our coffee machine brought a couple of weeks ago, yeah?
and you said that you ordered this little thing for the water tank
which you have insurance and everything for a 60 pound coffee machine
you know which didn't arrive never
but it was the wrong size.
You ordered twice the wrong one.
Not me, they sent the wrong one twice.
So we had the coffee machine for two weeks on the sink dripping everywhere,
coffee and water to be able to make coffees.
And we got this lovely coffee machine here which stays here in the studio.
so because the other one arrived once
and it was the wrong one
and keeps taking long to order
so I just went out of my way
and because last year I didn't got the gifts
of the coffee machine
I was like you know what I'm fed up
I'll just buy it myself
so I ordered myself a coffee machine
for the house
we've basically got one of those in the house now as well
similar but different colour
in the house
so we had the coffee machine to make coffee
because the other one that she ordered broke
and she keeps order in the wrong one
tank and it stays in the coffee machine
in the sink all water everywhere near the plaques and everything so i said like don't worry don't
she came on the last second order when like ah they send the wrong one again i'm gonna go to morrow and buy
a new espresso machine and i said listen don't even bother because i already bought the coffee
machine that i wanted and it's here in the box i just need to put it in so we have a proper coffee
machine and she's like no you didn't buy a coffee machine i was like yeah i mean if i have to be
waiting for you i won't get it so i got it and you know what was in front of her and mammy
and dad, the moment I'm like, oh, yeah, nice coffee.
They look at me and she looks at me like, well, I'm going to buy myself a coffee machine
because I like the other coffee machine.
It's more easy.
Can I just say, do you know how they say, there's a saying, they go, oh, women, they never
know what they want, they say one thing, they mean another.
We have it on tape from last week.
I said about buying you a coffee machine.
Don't buy me a coffee machine.
I don't want one.
I asked you, if you want one for your birthday, you said, no, after all this, if you, after
this, all of this, if after this, all of this,
you gave me a coffee machine for my birthday,
you can send it back.
I don't want a coffee machine.
What?
That's on tape.
No, no, no, no.
And then you buy yourself one.
That's like me saying,
I don't want a Christmas gift.
I said this to you.
I said, like,
I don't want my gift to be a coffee machine.
If you come now this year for my birthday
with a coffee machine,
you can take it back.
You said I don't want one?
No, no, no.
I said, I don't want a coffee machine
for my birthday.
That's what I said.
But then you bought yourself one?
Yes, because I want to buy a coffee machine.
I don't.
want my gift to be a coffee machine when I ask you three years ago about a coffee machine.
Now I don't want that. I just buy it myself. You lost your chance. You had one chance to give
me a coffee machine. I don't want another coffee machine. But you got yourself one. Yes. So you did
get one. I bought it myself. It's not a gift. I just bought it because I wanted a coffee because our
coffee machine broke. So I bought a new coffee machine for the house. It makes me wonder with this whole
coffee machine debacle, did you break ours on purpose? No. Why would I break a coffee machine? Why can I
break a coffee machine and expensive £100 in a coffee machine.
Why?
Why?
I mean, to be fair, I brought milk in today in me a skull flask and he did make me a cracking
coffee.
Yeah.
It's on there.
A very nice coffee.
You're just lazy and something that takes to make more than five seconds, put a pot
and press a bottle on.
I am anything but lazy.
We're making a coffee, yes.
We need to do one full episode of Lost in Translation without mentioning a freaking
coffee machine because this coffee.
machine has been going on since about episode 14.
And we're now episode 47.
Listen, there are trilogies of movies in Hollywood
just about a simple thing, you know?
Should we move on to the producer questions?
Yes.
So with each episode, our producer, Enrique,
he throws in a question for us.
And this week, you would like to know,
if we were given a device to look into the future,
what life decision would you ask it to show you how
it ends up. Well, that's a very deep question, huh? That's an easy answer for me. Can I just say you
can't mention coffee machines. No coffee machines. I would ask it, I would want to know,
do both my children end up happy in their life? Whether it's with a partner, whether it's on their
own, whether it's a CEO, whether it's working from home, whatever it is, I want to know when we're
not around, are they okay?
That's what I'd want to know, 100%.
Because that's what I worry about every day.
Nice.
I do lie awake at night thinking, oh my God,
I hope to be all right if one day, you know what I mean?
That's all my only concern is the kids.
I don't know.
So like a life decision we've already made or?
It can be or it can be one that you're moving.
Were we doing the right thing in buying a farm?
speaking off farms
how lucky have we been recently
Mia and Tiago
have been riding Bramble
so our next door neighbour Gemma
who owns the horses
kindly said to us
if you want to come and spend the day on the farm
and see how it all works
you're more than welcome
Mia jumped at the chance
didn't she and Tiago
so we walked across
and you yeah well I loved it
and it's gorgeous
it's a beautiful farmhouse
but there's so much land, didn't there?
And there's like the garages in a big tractor
and the horses were just roaming free.
And then she brought them all in.
We had to change the hay.
They have little hay nets.
Put polish on the hooves.
Put some oil on them because the storm was coming so they didn't get wet.
She showed us so many things.
Brush the tails.
Mia was mucking out the stables.
She was putting the poo in a wheelbarrow.
Tiago made the beds.
there was so much to it to the point where I was thinking
this is why it's so expensive to own a horse
because everything you have to do to ensure it's okay.
And then Tiago's obsessed with sheep and she said,
we've got some sheep, do you want to see them?
So she took us to another part of the farm.
There was about 120 sheep all just roaming.
And we went there.
So much so, a few days later we saw her over the fence and me,
I said, can I come and do some work again, didn't she?
So she said, yeah, she said, but bring your boots this time in a helmet.
So Mia was like, why do we need a helmet?
And I said, oh, I don't know.
And then when we got there, she said, right, he was riding Bramble first and she let them ride.
And Tio was straight on, won't he?
No fear at all.
You just got straight on, yeah.
So that's what Mia's been doing with most of the weekends, to be honest recently.
She says, I'm working at the stables, mum.
But anyway, I'm massively digressed.
Do we need your question, Gort?
What decision?
Well, I don't know.
It could also be gawker if something's happened in your past
and you'd go, oh, let me see how life would have been,
if I would have made a different decision there,
you can also have that.
Oh, so like if...
Oh, yeah, for example, I would go back to the future and ask,
what if I wouldn't make the decision to do strictly, for example?
How my life would have looked like you?
I wonder if we would have met if we hadn't had done strictly?
Probably no.
Well, you say that.
We were in the same place without notice.
in the year earlier.
We didn't you met, didn't we?
Yeah, but we were in the same place
in a different country.
We were both in the same place
in a completely different country.
Maybe if I would have met you,
I would have made, we would make different decisions.
It is strange, though,
how we met.
Yeah.
Because I was asked the year before,
and I said, no,
you'd only just started in that year.
Yeah, before you, yeah.
Yeah.
So that was the year I was asked,
and I said no.
And then they asked again in 2017,
and I said,
yeah, well I said no
but then I changed my mind last minute and said yeah
so there was something that year
that was like maybe you should
and the year before we were both in
the Bahamas without knowing
at the same place so
I think we were always destined to meet
maybe
that's a very good question that on Rieke
yeah very deep
what would you guys ask
yourselves
um
what if I said no to this podcast
no no
No, I think mine would be about my kids as well
Just to see how they end up
And if it's not quite right, is this something you can
Do to fix them?
I suppose everyone's meant to get to where you get to, aren't they in life?
I hate people there's all the time thinking like
Looking about the future
And I don't like when people is like
So nostalgic every 24-7
Looking things, they're looking back to things like
Oh, remember this, oh look at this, oh, remember this.
Oh, they say, don't they?
If you live in the past, that's,
your likelihood of being depressed increases
because you're looking back on a time
that you will never ever get back ever again
and the circumstance will never ever be the same.
If those who look too far ahead
have a higher percentage of being anxious and stressed
because they're constantly thinking,
what if this happens, what if this doesn't happen?
And it said those that live in the present moment
are the ones who are more balanced
because it's just, it is what it is
and lean with it rock with it.
I just feel like if you think living on the future,
oh, what is going to happen tomorrow,
what I'm going to do, do this, what I'm going to do that,
you forget to do something today.
They actually, whatever you're doing right now
and whatever you're doing right now
will have a repercussion on the future.
So whatever you want to get on the future,
instead of them focus on like,
oh, what if this happened, what is that happened?
Do it now what you have to do to take you there?
That makes sense?
Yeah, yeah, no.
And then forget about the past.
When you go like, oh, I'm supposed to be doing this
and now I didn't do it.
and can you change it?
No, it's past.
Forget about it.
Just focus now in what you have to do.
It's like when we always say to Mia,
if ever she's worrying about anything.
And Tiago says it now.
We always say, get off your rocking horse, Mia.
And she'll sometimes come to us and say,
I need to get off my rocking horse.
And that analogy comes from,
my dad always used to say,
worrying is like being on a rocking horse
because it's something to do,
but it gets you nowhere.
And it's so true, you're just on a rocking horse,
but you're not going anywhere.
And that's what we say to me.
if she's worrying about anything.
You say, get off your rocking ass.
And I think, like, you know, I don't know.
Everybody's different, but, for example,
I find, like, one thing that you learn with dancing
and, like, being a dancer,
you learn to live in the present and live in the moment.
Because, like, if you take about when you, like, performing,
you can, if you are dancing a routine
and for every chances, you do a mistake,
and you think, ah, I did it wrong, or you felt,
and you keep focusing for the next 10 minutes on that mistake,
you're going to spend the next 10 minutes,
minutes of your dance thinking about that mistake that you done that you cannot change.
There may be no one there noticed, but in your head is like, I did it wrong, which is pointless
because now you're going to be annoyed and upset and dancing, not good because you are still
thinking about that.
If you forget about that happened, you're still having another 10 minutes to make it up.
So whatever you do at this moment, do it even better, because then you forget about that
and you will feel better.
And actually, those 10 minutes that you're dancing after a mistake is going to make.
you the next one the outcome of the future dance be like even better and the people
might not even be like oh wow that was amazing and that mistake that you did in the past
you just overtake it on the present and make it better yeah it's like we never know the amount
of times i've watched you on tour and i've said to you after it was it okay and you've gone yeah it was
okay a few mistakes but and i've been like mistakes but it was it was flawless and you've gone
no it wasn't it's the same thing i think that's one of the things that i take always from i learn from dance
to life. Do you mean?
Just people go to
oh no, I don't
I don't even know what it's going to happen in the next five
minutes, so just carry on.
Well, that was a very interesting question
that led a lot of digression.
I'm sure someone will take something from this question.
Yeah, I like them deep questions.
Thank you, Enrique.
Should we read out some messages from the listeners?
So, we've got a lovely message from Kim,
one more signs for swingers.
Ooh.
In the caravan in world, pink flamingos
are a sign.
I didn't know
and got my maid
to make me
a cotton
COVID mask
in a pale green
cotton
with the pink
flamingos
in it.
Ooh.
Got some looks
until someone
explaining why.
So this is,
so if you
happened last week
and the week
before we were
talking about
the signs of
being a swinger,
which if you are
one, please get in
touch.
I'd genuinely
love to know
about it
honestly.
I mean,
it's I'd
have a friend
or made
anybody at
swingers?
No,
that's why
I want to
know about it,
have you?
Yeah.
So what did you do?
So they're in a relationship with the partner,
is in the happy as Larry,
but they're just allowed to sleep with other people?
No, they just go to clubs and things like that.
And do they go together?
Yeah.
So they couldn't go separate?
No.
Oh, okay.
That's the point is that they are swingers and they go to,
so for example, they go like, they say they go to like an evening,
like a club, yeah?
There's a lot of the, in Spain, actually, there is few.
Right.
And they go and they say you go for a drink, yeah?
So you said no table for a drink and there is different,
like tables like couples and things like that
so then you just start to approach and
have a conversation but I think the people
that goes to those places they are
all swingers so you don't have to guess
and be like asking you know they are so I guess
for example we're here yeah and let's say there's a
couple there and you go like oh I like
a couple so they just okay let's go
and have a conversation and then just whatever
they do but it's an agreement
between the two
and the relationship I mean how does that even come up
I don't know I guess they have their relationship
I don't know I'll ask the person
Yeah, I'm intrigued to know
Does it always have to be
Husband and wife together
Or can it be the wife can sleep with someone else
He can
Because obviously it's no judgment
Each relationship to their own
I guess it might be different
They always go together
My thing with it
And again each to their own
If you do it then brill
But the whole mask thing
Say I was single
And someone walked in with a mask
To pipe
If they had a body like yours
you know and I thought
ooh they're in good nick
I still would have to see their face
before piping them
No but you take the mask of it
you keep the mask
That's the make or break
I would have
Gemma I think these people
They go here
They are not interesting
In have a pretty face or anything like that
It's not it's not sentimental
I think it's just the fact
You're having sex with other people
It's just high nice to meet you
Turn out and clash your ankles
Yeah
That makes sense? Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
So I mean
They don't want to see your face
Or say your barcode
Yeah, there you go.
I would have to be like, the body's good, but I have to see the face.
But I think I get a bite at these people, they're just for one thing, you know what?
Well, each to their own, do you know what I mean?
For them, a hole is a hole.
But I will have to...
Even if it's on the wall.
I saw a meme the other day, and it was this obese man on a yacht with a cigar like this,
and there was a girl next to him in a bikini, a bit younger like this.
She was looking at him, and it just said, if he has a boat, then I have a throat.
It really made me laugh.
I'll have to tell our kid, though, about that pink flamingo in the caravan in world,
because my sister's got a caravan.
They love it, and I'm sure she has got a pink flamingo.
She's not a swinger.
I think she just got it because it looked nice.
Haley said, hello you two.
I love your podcast so much.
I'm currently at 39,000 feet over the Atlantic on my way to Canada to see my family.
I hate flying, but your podcast are getting me through it.
Thank you so much.
I love you guys and the kids, and of course, Benji.
If you ever do with showing Manchester,
please can you bring him along so I can get a cuddle.
Oh, thanks for that.
Actually, you say that, can not read this message?
So the other day, I was on the train going to London for the event, yeah?
Yeah.
And I was on the train.
I got the train on Saturday.
And it was like, I think we stopped on a Stockholm trend.
And we were to stop there for a little bit.
And you know how they keep the doors of the train open?
And you can hear this last single,
you know, like football songs.
And I was like, oh, please don't tell me they're going to get on the train.
Yeah?
Anyway, they got on the train, and they were like two coaches behind mine.
And few of them passed through it.
And you know when they have a couple of beers?
I was just like having my sandwich and watching my teller.
And there was only me and another per man opposite me on the single seat facing me.
And this guy walked in a bit like a couple of beats and say something to me
that I wasn't even aware of.
I was just like, whoa.
And the guy looked at me and laugh.
And I was out, God.
He was like, well, you know, football.
And I was like, yes.
Anyway, I got out of the train, thought anything.
And then I got this message on the, on Instagram from this person, yeah?
I'm not going to say his name, yeah, but he says,
it was me sitting opposite you on the train to London.
I was listening to George and Jemas podcast as I got on the train.
How weird I ended up sat opposite you.
I didn't want to say hi.
and bother you.
Have a good evening.
Yeah?
So I said to him,
Oh, no, you should have say hi.
So you're like,
oh, don't worry.
I wouldn't want to bother you.
But love your podcast.
Go me through some difficult times.
So thank you both for that.
Oh, that's nice.
That's really nice.
A few people have said about going through difficult times
and they listen to make themselves feel good.
And the other day when I was in the event in London,
it's called a fitness competition.
I was there and a lot of people came to me and said,
Oh, I love the podcast.
We love the podcast, yeah.
Oh.
So, yeah.
Well, thank you, Haley.
And have a lovely time in Canada with the fam.
We have one more from Barbara.
Barbara.
Do I read half?
And then you read the rest half, yeah?
Okay, do okay.
If I triple, you step in.
If you dribble.
Triple, like, like trip.
Trip up.
Yeah, like triple.
Triple is three.
Oh, so when I like, if I mumble, you step in.
Yeah.
Lost in translation.
We should do, when I say that, you should put the voice of like, Siri.
You know, like, hello, it's like, he means this.
That will be funny, you know?
Yeah.
Every Tuesday, I will save your Wednesday podcast for the following Tuesday.
Every Tuesday I have chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer.
Well, I'll be doing okay.
And keep fighting.
I sit there with a cold cab on my head looking ridiculous,
chuckling away at your show.
It helps the time's past quicker, and I love your back and forth,
chit-chat. Don't ever change and treasure each other. You have obviously found your soulmates.
If you read this out, can you say a big thank you to my happy Warwick for all his love and support
through such a grilling time. Thank you so much, guys. You are like two pies in a pot.
Oh, Barbara. Thank you for listening, Barbara. And I hope it's all going all right.
I did a copper field trek
quite a while back now, wasn't it?
And it's basically a loads of women
who've been through breast cancer,
who were dealing with breast cancer,
and I've got a group with all the girls
who were on Team Gemma.
And yeah, literally those women,
I always say to you, don't I.
So many of them have gone through
what you're now going through, Barbara.
And they've come out the other side
and they have so much advice
and they're brilliant.
So if you've not, I'm sure you will be aware of copperfield.
But if you're not, Barbara, you should check it out
because it's full of women like those and our groups.
But yeah, thank you, Barbara.
Sending lots of love.
And like you said, big shout out to your hubby Warwick.
Yeah, no Warwick, sorry.
Warwick.
Warwick.
Yeah, keep us posted on how you get on.
If you do want to get in touch, by the way,
like Barbara and Haley and Kim, you can do.
You can voice no one.
or you can WhatsApp on 07-6103-9898.
You can email us Lost in Translation at Bowermedia.com.
Or you can follow us lost.com podcast on social media.
My mum actually commented on the social media,
but I think she might have DM'd the Lost in Translation
because she rung me up.
She tried to comment saying that she agrees with you.
I don't listen properly.
Thanks, mum.
She said, but I got a message back saying thank you for contacting Lost in Translation.
You know you made it.
obviously done it via a DM, bless her.
You know, you made it when your mother-in-law stays by your side.
Well, she's not messaged publicly.
She's tried to, but I think it's gone direct to the message.
I get the eye roll at home.
When Jemma does something, she looks at me across the day, we go to there.
Well, our final message this week is from Steve,
and he's got a dilemma for us to answer, so let's solve Steve's dilemma.
Should we solve a listener dilemma?
Yes, we should, and we have a voice note from our listeners.
and it's stiff.
Hi everyone.
A little bit of a dilemma that I want both Gemma and Gorker's opinion on.
And it is this.
The unwritten rule that me and my wife have had since we've lived together has been that
I do the cooking and she does the cleaning.
I work five days a week.
She works only three.
There are periods in the days that she has off in the week where she could be cleaning
but doesn't.
I'm quite lenient on this,
but I have pointed out to the fact that I work five days a week
and every day I'm able to do the cleaning
in terms of the washing up.
I also do the cooking.
The argument that we both have
is when it does come to the washing up,
she thinks that whoever does the washing up
should also do the drying up.
I argue that no, somebody should do the washing up
and the other person should do the drying.
I would like to know what your opinions on this is
and what has been both your unwritten rules together
since you've started living with one another as well.
Oh, thank you for us.
Yeah, it's interesting, but first of all,
we never have unwritten rules.
We've not got any rules.
We just won for the team.
Wherever it goes first, that's it first.
Yeah, it's kind of for us, Steve.
It's like, like last night Gorka made his tea.
I was washing up Mia's plate
Gawker walk around with his plate
and said I'll wash this
and I said no you saw it
so you took me her upstairs while I wash
Yeah
We've not really got a you do this
I do that
The only thing we'll probably have is like
I ask her
Don't do my washing
I'll do the washings
Yeah he likes his own washing
But my question Steve would be
You say you do five days
Your wife only does three
I'm assuming there's no kids
Because you would have said
Because it annoys me when people go
she only works two days a week
and if they've got kids
they're working seven days a week
trust me especially if the young kids
that annoys me
but if there's no kids involved
and it's three days a week
then I'll take that back
I'll use that with you next time yeah
well I do
I work five days a week
more so
I'm saying I'm at home now with the kids
I'm working seven days a week
yeah well you are it's full on with the kids
you're getting a little taste of how
it is full on I mean
now they're a bit easier because they're more self-sufficient
But when they were both...
With me, they are fine.
When they were both babies, when Tiago was a baby,
babies are completely different.
But be interesting, when you say tidy up,
do you mean like the hoovering, the mopping,
doing the windows, doing the mirrors, doing the bathrooms?
Everybody is different also.
Yeah, that's a job maybe twice a week, max, once a week.
You do a full deep clean of everything.
I mean, depends with the person.
Yeah, strip the beds and stuff.
That isn't something you do every single.
day. And your messy, Steve, might be very different from your wife's messy. I laugh about it,
but I know I do it a lot of times. She, for example, we'll be cooking. Yeah, we both cook. And I cook
first. I'll leave it. I'm going to cook. Okay, she cooks. And then she cleans the kitchen. And then
I'm behind her. It goes over it. Like this morning, she makes the omelet for the kids and then clean
the pan and let the pan. I came down to get in dress. And I got the, look at the par. I was like,
I did this. He does it on purpose. And I did the pan. And.
And I, yeah, and I wash the pan again because he wasn't cleaning out for me.
Which is just odd.
Or like, she would be, she will be cleaning the hop thing.
And then she wipes there, yeah, but doesn't dry there.
So wipes and then it's there.
For me, when you don't dry it straight away, leaves the stains, doesn't gloss.
So I got to spray, wet it up, and then dry it.
So then circles, so it gets dry and gloss.
So I do that.
I just clearly, like, it's fine, I clean it again.
But there's little things, Stee.
Such as that, that being in a relationship,
you have to just learn to accept the nonsense with stuff occasionally.
Or like the bed.
You've just got to be like, do you know what?
That's their thing.
It ain't worth my cortisol being raised for.
So if he wants to clean it again,
waste his time and energy, that's that.
And you could have the same approach with your wife.
But that's me also the same.
I don't tell you things.
I just go and do it again.
Because me telling you is not clean,
it will make me angry.
He's just been Victor Meldrew
and moaning about it
so I just don't do anything
roll my eyes to myself
and killing it again
I did all our bedding the other week
and I go after and do it again
and no you don't
I washed the bedding was all washed
and cleaned
and I put it all back on
and the same night
it was all fresh bedding
the exact same night
was when you were away
and you were in London and me
I said can I watch a move in your bed
tonight mum
I said yeah of course you can
and she had a nosebleed
all over the bed
all over the white sheet
the bright fitted sheet
literally
and I just I looked at it
it and thought, I'm not going to do anything with that until it's next week's wash.
And I slept for a week on a fitted sheet with Mia's blood on it from a nose.
Oh, thank God I wasn't here.
I just thought, do you know what?
It's my own child.
It was from a nose.
It's not poo.
Do you know what I mean?
Is that a northern thing?
A northern thing.
Maybe.
I mean, it's off now.
It's got washed.
But you're supposed to get blood off with your saliva first.
Or milk.
Yeah.
But what I would do, Steve, it's not worth falling out over.
maybe soften it, soften the rule and rather than both have rules for each of you,
because you're giving yourself chores then, and it's hard enough.
If you're working five days a week, I'm assuming you've got a boss and you've got deadlines
and you've got things to do at work for people, deadlines and shit.
You don't want that at home as well.
At home should be your safe space where you can both relax and you don't want to be mithered by your partner.
You've not done this, you've not done that.
That's just going to cause agro.
so I'd instead of having it as a rule
I'd just sit down and just say listen
scrap the rules let's just have a team
whereby we both try and keep the house tidy
even if she wants to help you cook
do you know what I mean
I'd do it more of a as a teamwork
because if it's messy now
God help you when you do have kids
for example you left at work yeah
and on the front of the staircase
there was three pairs of shoes from you yeah
so I was la let me just help her
because she's busy, let me tidy up and get the shoes
and put them on the shoe rack and tidy.
So then when I opened the door to tie the app,
it was not possible to help you
because all the shoes they were there,
it was a pile of shoes,
they even me and were like,
oh, this is a mess, isn't it?
What's that got to do with Steve?
No, it's just me throwing it out.
There you go again, Steve.
You have to choose to,
you have to be like a horse, like a car horse.
You have blinkers on.
You just look forward.
You can't see the agro on the left or right.
Thank goodness I'm the one who,
cook so
on fight.
But thank you for getting in touch
Steve and please do let us know
have the chat
and then please get back in touch
and let us know how it goes
or is Steve's wife's listening
you give us your side of the story
I'm assuming yours might be very different
next week and we are divorced
yeah let us know
but thank you for getting in touch
should do a game
yay
today's game is
who's as heavy as a hippo
oh
so London Zoo has recently
had its annual animal weighing
where they weigh every single animal in the zoo.
So the game today is all about the weight of animals.
We're going to be given two animals
and we have to work out which is heavier
based on their species weight on Google.
So producer Henry is going to count as three.
Then we have to shout out our answers individually.
And the winner will be who gets the most right.
Okay.
So who's as heavy as a hippo?
Okay, so number one.
Yep.
A male white rhino or a male hippo.
One, two, three.
Hi.
Hi.
The answer is a hippo.
Yay.
She knows about animals more than me.
I don't know the weights though.
I just know that hippos are absolutely massive.
Yeah, but a white rhino with a hole and everything.
They can run at about 30 miles an hour, them, you know.
4,000 kilos.
Hippos kill more people than any other animal yearly because they can run.
Elephants don't run
They've got no knees
They just walk fast elephants
You could be the female
New Day with Adam Rajemah
My, we're talking about hippos
My friend James
Who used to be
Well, he now is a director
But he used to be a first assistant director
In some films I did
He's just released a movie called Hippo
Check it out
It's out now
It looks really, really good
There you go James
James Nunn, fantastic director
And the movie's called Hippo
cute
Should we go to the next animals?
Yes
Okay so number two
A Highland Bull
Or a camel
Highland Bull
One
Two
I'm gonna go camel
It's a camel
Yes
They've got heavy humps
Next one
So number three is
A common British
Dormouse
Or a tarantula
A dormouse
Yeah I think I'd go Dormouse
I've held a tarantula
And it was quite light
It wasn't very heavy
And I'm thinking I used to have gerbils
And they were
But a dormouse is only tiny
It's like a ball
It's actually a tarantula
Is it a tranchola?
Doormouses are about 20 grams
Yeah they're only little things aren't they
Tarantula about 85
Why people have that as pets?
Yeah I don't like them as pets
In tanks and stuff
A girl I know she's got tranclers and snakes
In a tank
Why?
Exactly
In her house in Manchester
It's like why
Do you know what
Imagine if it got out.
Imagine if it just got out and started going down Dean's Gate.
I'm alone.
Yeah.
No.
All right, next.
A giraffe or a great white shark.
Great white shark?
Depends if they're in water, the weightless, aren't they?
Depends, are they in water or is it on land, Henry?
Do you know what I mean?
A shark on land is a lot of...
Because you love in this game?
Yeah.
Well, everything's weightless in water.
I'll go with the shark.
Look at them.
I'm going to go with the giraffe.
It's actually the giraffe.
Yeah, oh, look at that.
Oh!
Yeah, it's sort of the necks are awful.
Look at them.
How can they do that with the legs?
They break each other's necks.
Really?
I wish they'd just walk away from each other, don't you,
instead of fighting?
But why do they do that like that?
Well, I was going to fight.
They can't exactly box, can they, with them the loaves.
So they break their necks, and that's how they kill each other?
That's how they fight.
It's just under 2,000 kilograms, giraffes.
Giraffes.
They run very fast also.
What's the shark?
1,800.
That's incredible.
The next thing.
It's like how he bending like backwood like that.
I know.
The next one.
A female lion or a female tiger?
Female tiger.
Yeah, tigers are bigger.
They've got bigger paws than a lion.
Actually, by just three kilograms, a female lion.
Well, you can say if that female lion had a big poo, she'd be the same.
So technically, we were right.
The next one is a capybara or a female great.
Dane dog.
Oh.
What's a Capabara?
It looks like a big gerbil.
They're quite cute.
Look at that.
You'll have that as a pet.
I absolutely would.
Look at those things.
But does it weigh more than a female Great Dane dog?
Great Dane dogs are big, aren't they?
But the gangly.
Great Dane.
I'm going to go with the Capabara.
What are you going with?
The Great Dane.
I'm sorry, Gorker.
It's actually the Capabara.
It's fine.
I just look.
You know what?
This game, I just loved it.
How hell face and excitement and light up.
I never see her.
I love animal facts.
The first like this.
I used to have a book when I was little.
For me, it's like looking at a show, whatever.
I had a book when I was little, and it was a thousand animal facts,
and I used to read it over and over and over again.
And Mia's got the encyclopedia now, aren't she?
An animal encyclopedia.
And she loves it, and she makes notes on it and folds it over.
And the other day I'll come home from work,
and there was four pieces of paper stuck.
to the window and I was like, what the hell are they?
And as I got closer, she'd wrote in a bubble,
orca, on the other one, she'd wrote Hammerhead Shark,
and on the other one, she'd wrote Dolphin.
And she'd put facts about each and every one of them,
like all over them and stuck them on the windows.
And she said she left them in the window for me to see when I come home.
I was like, oh, bless her.
Yeah.
Next one.
A crocodile or a polar bear.
Polar bear's a massive, aren't they?
Beautiful, though.
I'm going to go with polar bear.
It's actually a crocodile.
Is it?
It's a big reptile, isn't it?
So the last one, come on, Gork, we need you to get one right.
Ostrich or a gorilla?
Gorilla.
Silver bag.
Have you stood next to an ostrich?
I have an omelette, an ostrich egg.
You ate an ostrich egg?
Yeah.
We made, with one egg, we made, ate this panis omelettes.
That's how much the egg gives.
What did it taste like?
Is it like a normal egg?
Yeah, it's like when you get that.
Have you never never had the little legs from the birds?
Quayal.
Yeah.
Similar.
I don't think I've ever had any other egg on the chicken egg.
In Spain we had them.
We made them on a little tapas.
Made like a slice of bread with Iverical ham and then the little egg on top.
But is a quail egg, does it taste exact same as a turkey egg?
Yeah.
But it's just smaller.
Yeah.
Same thing as an ostrich.
But with one ostrich egg, you can make eight Spanish omelette.
I think an ostrich is heavy.
just because
the sheer size of it, the massive.
I would say gorilla.
It's a gorilla.
Hey!
Well, at least I know something.
Gemma, you won that for one.
Oh, thank you.
Gorillars, look at that.
I love when they go like
and they run.
I used to have a monkey
at Monkey World in
Dorset. He's called Brian. He passed now. God bless him. But he was a beach photographer's prop in
Spain, believe it or not. And this beach photographer had knocked all his teeth out so he couldn't
bite tourists. And he used to drug him up. So he was like, oh, Placid. So then tourists, come
and have a picture with him. And they'd hold him like this for photos. Bless him, no teeth.
And he got moved to Monkey World in Dorset.
And I went down to visit him.
Oh my gosh, he was so lovely.
He was so, so lovely.
And they let me go in the enclosure with some little tiny chimpanzee babies.
And the smallest one sat on my back and was hitting me.
It was so hard.
He was playing.
And they told me, I could be wrong,
but the owners of the monkey world,
she told me,
and chimpanzee is eight times as strong as the average.
average man. So just in like an arm wrestle, eight times as strong as you just crushing something.
And I went to see him thrice, three times, and drove to Dorset to go and see bloody Brian
and sign a check. Well, that's my favourite game on Rie K. So far. That has been my favourite,
that and the dog barking one.
Why? Because he's amazing, too, because you won.
Yeah.
Nice. Well done. Well, that's everything, isn't it?
That's it. That's another episode, done and dusted.
Well done.
