Starting point is 00:00:53 How are you Welcome to Lost in Translation How are you Welcome to Lost in Translation Hope everyone's good Thank you for tuning in to another Episode Which number is this one
Starting point is 00:01:06 Oh I've no idea I've lost track Forty-eight. 46. Forty-six. Almost your age. Almost. No, I'm 42 nearly.
Starting point is 00:01:14 It's your birthday on Friday, isn't it? I know. Your birthday this week. He excited? No. He doesn't celebrate his birthdays. You never have. Why don't you?
Starting point is 00:01:24 It's another day. It's another day. It's another year of privilege on this planet. Another year of being around the sun. So I'm grateful for that, but still. The day your mom birthed you, the day you took your first breath. That's why she was grateful to care me out of her belly.
Starting point is 00:01:40 So she was like, get out of here. But yeah, it's another day. Just older, another year to leave. The same thing doesn't change anything. It's the same thing. See, I celebrate every single birthday. Yeah, for months. Well, you might not be fussed about celebrating,
Starting point is 00:01:53 but the team have got you a little birthday present. Oh, no. Yeah, because you can't have a birthday without celebrating. This is something I'm going to change with you. I really am going to make you appreciate your birthdays more. Whoa, whoa, you're getting it wrong. I appreciate my birthday and I appreciate my day. and the day that I was born and have another year around.
Starting point is 00:02:11 I appreciate all of that. I just don't like to make a fuss about it. It's too late. You're going to get a fuss. Well, you've got a birthday present here. I don't know what this is, by the way. No, I don't know what it is either. This is from the Lost in Translation Team.
Starting point is 00:02:23 I have no idea what they say is genuinely. That's a bottle there. Oh, I can be, I feel it already. What is it? That looks like a... Open it? Like milk. How can you not be excited to open it?
Starting point is 00:02:37 I'm going to open it for you. I bet it's megan digestive. What is it? Be careful it's on something. Whoa! What is it? Yay! Oh my gosh!
Starting point is 00:02:48 Guys, it's my birthday. I don't want to become obese and diabetic, yeah? With sugar. That is, literally, when was it? About two days ago, I was driving home from work, Gorka Rung me. Can you stop off and get digestives, please? I had to stop off at the local spa to get digestives.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Also, guys, you're going to give my guilty preempties. You've given away loads on the pod. This is my secret. No one does this. Oh, that's brilliant. That is a really thoughtful gift because it's something you genuinely love. Yeah, it's like when your man getting my shortbread for Christmas. I don't want anything else. They're getting the same thing every year.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Yeah, I'd rather get... An Amazon voucher and some shortbread. Sorry. Sorry. I'd rather get this, you know, than... You won't have to buy digestives for about six months. Well... I'll say...
Starting point is 00:03:39 for two months. Yeah, he will genuinely eat all of them. Oh wow, can I have a biscuit now? Just one, yeah? Of course, yeah. Oh, look at you with your birthday gifts. Oh wow, multi-pack. Do you want us to get you a mug and you can make your... No, no, no, no, it's okay, don't worry. You know, we had it last night in bed.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Yeah, that was my birthday treat. So basically, this is a whole packet, yeah? For all of you that you don't believe it, I could do this look. He gets at least half the packet of digestive. This, yeah, put it on the top. pour the milk over, and then let it soft. When I can push it down, get the other half.
Starting point is 00:04:15 So the whole packet will go in one go, trust me. Genuinely. It's like Farley's Rusk. Where did it come from that? When did you start doing that? As a kid, but I used to do it with different biscuits, not these ones. I used to do it. Well, and then my mom went to me and said like Oka,
Starting point is 00:04:30 I think you try and need to eat these biscuits that are a bit more healthier, yeah? But I used to do it with Maria Fontaneda Dorada. So in Spain, it's going to eat. It's kind of, I think, like the same company, like MacBittes, but a Spanish one. Right. It's the one that used to make the Filipinos. If you have been in Spain, you must try Filipinos blanco or Filipinos de Chocolate. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Every kid in Spain loves Filipinos. Oh, yeah, it's very much MacBittesie, isn't it? I could get four like this in a row. Deeper on the middle can go like this. And you just focus on it. Because if you leave it too long, it will break. If you leave it to not too long, it will be hard still, yeah? So the aim was like, put it there and me like, okay, it's like five, four, I think now.
Starting point is 00:05:13 And you just take it out and you just bubble a little and you just like, and everything breathed. Oh, in your mouth. Oh, my goodness. And then since then, I started to do this. So this, but you see how it doesn't fit? This is the key. And when he's dancing on a tour, he can do it even more because you just need all the, oh, he's dropped it. He's dropped it.
Starting point is 00:05:35 Digestives are quite good to dunk, though. They're up there with a hobnob for dunking, I would say. This is not very healthy. This is what you created a monster now, guys. I still remember when I told Jamie Lang about this and he's like, no, I don't believe you. I was like, Mary, I'm telling you. I'm like, you're very healthy. You can know it there.
Starting point is 00:05:50 And I'm telling you. He was like, half of your money comes from my pocket. Oh, yeah, he's part of McVitties, isn't he? Oh, you see, his great-grandfather. Great granddad. Sir Alexander Grant invented the iconic McVitties digestive. Imagine you're like gem and tonics, yeah? That's incredible amazing, yeah?
Starting point is 00:06:09 in 15, 20 years time, yeah? And it becomes this iconic, like... When it becomes... Yeah, a staple, you know what I mean? Yeah. Imagine Mia's grandkids, yeah. Thinking, my great-grandma create this.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Those kids, no, they are born and they don't have to worry about much about things, you know? They'd be saying, my great-grandma, created Gem and Tonic, created the word piping. And my great-granddad didn't know what Thumbanino-Softi was because all the kids would be talking about it then. I was trying to make it about ourselves, sexful, you know, like, those kids will have, like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:44 That's what will happen. Anyway. Anyway. Thank you for my gift. I really appreciate it. Next time that I can buy, I might not fit in this chair. We should do a challenge. I would love to do a challenge, you know? See, how many packages in one go I can eat until I get sick.
Starting point is 00:07:01 No. I mean, that will be something very good for the social media. No, it won't. You're going to be like that kid off Matilda. in me we eat all that chocolate cake. You can do it, Bruce. Guys, you think we should do that? I'll do that.
Starting point is 00:07:13 I have here like two, three yokes of like cold milk and see how much of this I can need. Until you're sick? Until I've got to not see. And they're like, guys, I'm done. I will vomit. Oh, that's like them eating contest in America. I bet you I could do at least like five package.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Cheers. Without further ado, let's crack on quick before your insulin goes any more through the roof and you come up with any more ideas. This is amazing, huh? Me, I don't have to match off with this. Without further ado, Whole milk.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Let me. So it's been another week in the Atkinson, Marquez household. Mia's now back in year three. She's gone back to school. Summer holidays are officially over. Which I'm glad also. Oh, yeah? Yeah, because there is no summer really here.
Starting point is 00:07:57 No. So at least the kids are busy. She's learnt to ride a bike with no stabiliser. She's been doing all that with her. She's loving it. She's brilliant. Tiago's upstairs in preschool. He's having a blast.
Starting point is 00:08:08 I know. He's loving life. So it's back to normal. Oh, it's quite sad, isn't it? I'm actually glad to be honest. Cozy season now. We'll be having our pumpkin spice lattes before we know it. Oh, no, Halloween.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Producers have done some digging, by the way. So do you remember last week when I told you about that pineapple in your trolley? Yes. It means that you're up for piping. Turns out, you saucy Spaniards, it originated Gorka in Spain. Really? Yeah. In 2024, single people in Spain would head to the Mercodonnas
Starting point is 00:08:40 between 7 and 8 o'clock in the evening, put a pineapple in their trolley to indicate that they were ready to mingle. I need to ask Pelagio that. No. It says they also found out that there's actually a whole supermarket code for that.
Starting point is 00:08:56 So were you aware it started in Spain? Clearly not. Well, in 2024 I didn't live in Spain. I left Spain in 2016. Well, it was the source of Spaniards who created it. I need to ask this to Pelagio, to see if he's true. He would know, wouldn't he?
Starting point is 00:09:09 Well, probably, yeah. Well, there's a few of them. So if you have upright bananas in your trolley, that means you're single and ready to mingle. You know, they're upright. They're standing to attention. I don't even pay attention. I just put the things on the bags now.
Starting point is 00:09:23 I was going to say we scan them and put them straight in, don't we? The last time you go to the supermarket and pay attention. A pineapple the right way around means you're a woman interested in finding a man. What is the right way around? Like the spikes up. Spikes up. I'm so confusing Upside down pineapple
Starting point is 00:09:42 Means you're a swinger And you're looking for a couple Okay Putting a peach in someone's trolley Means you're flirting Someone put a peach in my trolley What you're doing? Yeah I'd say what have you done that for
Starting point is 00:09:53 Yeah I would twat him Yeah I wouldn't think they were flirting I'd say do you need that back Oh excuse me, it's their own trolley Lettuce If you put a lettuce in it It means you're looking for a one night stand This is really what ruined my shop now
Starting point is 00:10:05 Because I'm going to be conscious Of what I'm doing You buy a lettuce on a back So how are you going to know? We buy letters all the time for salads and stuff. Yes, but it's like the pack. You buy the pack. It's not just the lettuce coming out, do you mean?
Starting point is 00:10:17 Apparently if you show lentils, you want something long term. An oil, you want to partner with a healthy bank balance. Well, you buy a lot of bottles of oil, Jim, recently, you know? Is this all true, Henry? Yeah, we found an article. It was in the Metro. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:10:35 It can be real. I mean, it's a lot of thought. in your shopping. Maybe someone's listening now who has done this. You know, we don't judge here. If you are swingers and you do use that pineapple tack,
Starting point is 00:10:48 please do get in touch. If you want, we can keep your anonymous if you want us to. But I'd be genuinely interested to know if that is a thing. Oh, God. Because surely it's easier
Starting point is 00:10:59 to just go on a dating site for all of that. It's just very confused. How do you, honestly, again, like, how can you even multitask or think on the supermarket? You're looking for the food.
Starting point is 00:11:07 You're looking hard to place the food. plus looking around if someone reacts it's just too difficult just what if you do the shopping online well then you're not looking for anything I mean what if you do shopping in Okato
Starting point is 00:11:19 or like in Tesco online how are you going to do it on the theme of food it's also the La Tomatina festival oh yeah that's the like massive tomatoes when they throw the tomatoes and everything
Starting point is 00:11:30 why did they do that I don't know it's not what I'm from it's like a thing because it's like at the end of the tomato season You know, when they have overproduction of tomatoes. So they obviously, when they use the tomatoes to make things, and they're being like, already like damage or things like that. Or they're overproduced.
Starting point is 00:11:47 So they have a big tomato fight in the street? Yeah. And the whole city becomes red. Oh. They do similar one with the wine, with their grapes, with their grapes, I think. I don't know. Spain is weird with those things.
Starting point is 00:11:58 I bet it actually hurts getting it with the tomato. Yeah. Imagine if it's not fully ripe, it's a bit mushy. They're all just, yeah, yeah, yeah. But a full-on pelts on tomato. It's like a massive truck. comes to the city and they throw them and everything. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:12:10 And the news is responsible for the cleanup, the council? No idea. It's not what I'm prone, Jim. I said on the news in the Spain, but I've never been. I don't know, really. You had Gorkas zero interest in throwing tomatoes at people. I will make a tomato salad. With your lettuce.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Yes. And my bananas facing up. Do they have loads of different festivals like that across Spain now? I think so. They have the, that one, the, I think they had the one with the orange also. I'm trying to think we don't do that We only have the cheese one in the UK In Leicester
Starting point is 00:12:43 Is it Leszre? I think they roll it down the hill Yeah, they roll it down the hill Yeah No idea in Spain And then you run after it We have log throwing in Scotland I think there's another one with the grapes
Starting point is 00:12:53 But I'm not sure The La Domitina is the famous one Well before we do Our debates this week Our producers have thrown in their own question As always Oh I can wait This week they want to know
Starting point is 00:13:04 If someone rang you claiming to be the other person what question that only you would know would you make sure to ask? I will know he's not you. Yeah, but if they'd AI'd my voice... It's very... No.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Talking of this, people are now saying you are all supposed to have that safe word or safe question because AI is becoming so prominent everywhere. I mean, it's frightening what they do, so lots of like banking apps or anything like that
Starting point is 00:13:34 or even parents with kids with smartphones are saying, if you ringles, to make sure we know it's you, we'll ask each other that one question that only we'd know. Do you know what I mean? For like a safety feature. So we should actually have that. I probably would ask Orca.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Don't say here because then everybody knows it. I'd say which side of the bed do I sleep on and in which position do I sleep? On top of me? I'd say that. I'd say which side of the bed do I sleep on and what position do I? sleeping. I mean, it depends. Or I could ask you what book I'm reading. In fact, you'll be proud of me.
Starting point is 00:14:12 I've stuck to it, haven't I? For the last month, I made a pack to myself. I didn't want to watch telly in bed. I wanted to start reading again. Before I had kids, I used to read all the time. You actually said to me, didn't you? Where did you get this from? This reading thing. But I used to read all the time on holiday, on trains at night. And I thought, you know what, I'm going to get back into reading. And when we went to tell you. Kennearief in the Jet 2 Mac, there was an article from, what's the lady called? The famous one. She did the Gruffalo.
Starting point is 00:14:46 My dear. Julia Donaldson. She did an interview and she said that she loves crime novels and she recommended this crime novel author. I thought I'm going to get her books and I've stuck to it and I've read it for the last three or four weeks. I think until the next season of Tulsa King comes out. Then you will put the book out and watch Tulsa King. That's why she's reading, to be honest. No, it's not.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Because there is no... Something of Mary East Town is not out, and Tulsa King is not out. And she finished the Doughton Ranch. So there is nothing to watch on the telly. No, I started watching that murder thing the other day. And you have nightmares. You have nightmares.
Starting point is 00:15:26 No. Yeah. It was when you wake up, like, saying you have the most horrible dream of... Yeah. So then that's why you're watching it. But that's not, because I'm not... That's not why I'm not watching it. I watch it in the day.
Starting point is 00:15:34 In three months time, when Tulsa King comes out yeah how is the reading going what's your debate for me today my debate is yeah you went out of i don't know why and bought these like new pants new pans yes no pants like pans cooking pants yeah yeah you see all these new pants are amazing blah blah blah blah they got delivered yeah you have to like sort them out and then yesterday you're like yeah i'm gonna get the new pants so you took out all the pans out and leave them on the kitchen and then you left for work
Starting point is 00:16:07 but you left all the pans there because they needed washing yeah but since you took them out of the box until you left to what it was two and a half hours right and you left them all in the kitchen and didn't wash them is it only going to be me using the pans I didn't buy the pants I didn't even want the pants
Starting point is 00:16:25 I've bought the pans to match the colour of the kitchen and the ceramic and the paraffin free I can't say it the non-toxic pans Like we have the other ones You made a cracking omelet in that pan this morning Yeah But I'm the one who tied up the whole The whole pan cover
Starting point is 00:16:41 To the old ones Put them aside to get rid of them Or give them whatever Wash all the new ones And put it back in place And that was taxing was it No it's not taxing It's like if I would have bought
Starting point is 00:16:54 If I was the opposite You would be blaming And he bought these new pants And he's been there for weeks Like with the luggage We'll be there for weeks Okay The luggage has been there
Starting point is 00:17:04 And I moved Gorka left luggage And a hoodie behind the door while he went away And I purposely moved your hoodie Because I was bringing Benji in from a walk And I didn't want him to shake all over it So I purposely moved it. I hung it up in his wardrobe And the other day he said,
Starting point is 00:17:18 Where's my hoodie that was here? Oh, he's up here. I did that for you Because I didn't want it to get wet. Not because it was just left there for over a week. There's not over that a week It's because I'm travelling every other day I know.
Starting point is 00:17:31 And I'm taking the same luggage. So why I'm going to... I literally am washing my clothes, putting back on the luggage, leave. Come back, wash them, put them in the luggage, leave. You've only been taking that little luggage, aren't you? Yeah, because I'm going just for the day and come back. What you want me to take? No, I just... I don't know if you'd take a bag or...
Starting point is 00:17:49 Just that, in my backpack. Yeah. He just travel very light, Gawker, to be fair. Well, I'm going just for... If I live today and come back tomorrow, it's just one night. I don't need to take anything else. If you want, we can take all the luggagees. I can move out if you want to.
Starting point is 00:18:03 No, just leave the lookages where they are. Crick it. The luggage is, our loggages are like them little Russian dolls, so they all live one inside the other. And Gorka likes to put them back. I obviously can't do it right, even though I can. But you always say to me, I put the luggage back. Yeah, because I know I'm the one who travel the most,
Starting point is 00:18:21 so I know where they are in my luggage and what is inside them. Sometimes I don't need things in the small one. I leave things inside that I know I only need for travel. Sometimes he leaves things in, like, for a full, nearly a year, you've had clothes in a luggage bag. Literally, I'll go to get the luggage for the holiday next year and there'll be stuff in it from this year. Yeah, because I know it's there for a reason. So I don't forget it because it's only things that I need when I travel. Talk about organized.
Starting point is 00:18:48 Cricky. Well, my travel toiletry bag, I don't need a toiletry bag at home. It's just when I luggage. So then when I need to go, I need to pack, where is my toiletry bag? I know it's in the luggage. It's in the luggage. There you go. luggage. If you've got any
Starting point is 00:19:02 debates, by the way, please do get in touch with us. O'dable 7-603-9898. That's O'dable7-6103-9-98. You can voice note, you can WhatsApp. We love hearing from you. We have actually had some messages from our lovely listeners. Do you want to read one out? Yes, if I find him.
Starting point is 00:19:21 Well, Kate's actually sent us a voice note. Kate's from Whitefield. We've just stopped in Whitefield. Let's have Kate's voice note. Hi, Gemma. I hope you both okay. Last week Gemma gave us a beautiful rendition on her recorder and I thought I'd give her some competition by playing something on the recorder myself. So here it is. See if you can guess what it is. Just round the corner tell me if you want a five will make you feel alright. Oh, got the feeling by five. There we go. Good luck in working it out. And if you ever want a duet to play then I
Starting point is 00:20:11 I'm your girl. Bye! Is this like a very thing that you guys can do? What, Love 5? No, play the recorder. Probably, yeah. If Kate's from Whitefield, we might have had the same recorder teacher.
Starting point is 00:20:22 Nice. Who knows? Oh, thank you for that, Kate. I wouldn't even guess that song because I don't even know who 5 was until I met Gemma. But they're not big in Spain? No, Gemma.
Starting point is 00:20:31 I think they would have been. No. Surely that 5 must have done a tour. Take that in One Direction, yes. I thought you're going to say, take that in Jason Donovan then. No, one direction. Next one is from Bex.
Starting point is 00:20:42 You read at Bex. Hi, GNG. I'm listening to The Ep, Are We Smarter than a 7-year-old? And you're answering the question from Enrique about who you will invite to a dinner party. Generally, for a moment, though, Gorka said Bux Bunny. Oh, you said Bad Bunny, didn't you? Yeah, but Box Bunny is the one from the movie, no, with Michael Jordan. I wouldn't mind either.
Starting point is 00:21:03 Looney Tunes. I love that movie. Through that, was a bit random, but very cute. None. She said, I thought it was a bit random, but very cute none the last. less. Okay. Then he said, because I love his music,
Starting point is 00:21:15 didn't think Bugs had any songs. Then I realized he said, Bad Bunny. Yes, Bat Bunny. I love how she's called Henry Enrique. Everyone's picking up on Enrique. Producer Henry has actually said, if we had to invite a cartoon character each to our house,
Starting point is 00:21:31 he would it be? Probably him or the Tasmanian devil? Yeah. It caused a mess. I was going to say, we've already got, Tiago is a Tasmanian devil. Yeah, I like it.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Did you ever watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit? No. Did you not watch that? I think you'd like that with Jessica Rabbit. Tiago and Mia should watch this. Who Frame Roger Rabbit? It's really good. It's a cartoon, but it's a film as well.
Starting point is 00:21:57 Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was the movie, yeah, with the peanut girl, the red hair, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I'm trying to think which cartoon character I'd invite round. Probably something like Ranges or something like that. Probably Angelica from the Rugrats. What's that?
Starting point is 00:22:12 Angelica. She was like a little shite from the movie Rugrats. Do you remember Rugrats? Yeah. There she is. Oh gosh. That's like Mia. Bart Simpson?
Starting point is 00:22:22 Bart Simpson was the very first LP that I bought. It was Do the Bartman. It was a purple LP. And he had a T-shirt on saying, Eat My Shorts. Oh, I like Bart Simpson. Did you ever watch South Park in Spain? Yeah, but I wasn't allowed.
Starting point is 00:22:36 It was too... Oh, I used to love South Park. They used to play after midnight in Spain. and it was on a Friday and Saturday, and I was not allowed because obviously the languages and everything, it was like not very PG, you know? Well, my Uncle Clive, so my Uncle Clive, vegan Uncle Clive, who we still see,
Starting point is 00:22:54 me and him used to go to the cinema, he used to take me to the cinema all the time when I was younger, and when I was around 14 or 15, if you're familiar of Pillsworth, you'll know back in the day, you had a big Warner Brothers cinema there, Mega Bowl, and the cinema at Pillsworth used to be amazing, didn't it? It was so good.
Starting point is 00:23:11 And you go in, you have to pick and mix stuff on the left, a big bugged bunny Warner Brothers sign. And he took me, and there wasn't anything on, other than the South Park movie. So he said, oh, we'll just watch this. And he didn't know what it was. And he just said, since told me now, we mean we piss ourselves laughing about it now.
Starting point is 00:23:28 He said, because it was kids, I thought it'd be fine because it was a cartoon. The whole story of the storyline of the South Park movie is the kids of South Park trying to love. the clitoris because they ask chef, they ask chef how to please a woman. They would like, chef, how do you get a girlfriend? And he says, oh, there's easy kids. You just got to find the clitoris.
Starting point is 00:23:52 That's the storyline. Cartman trying to locate a clitoris. They have a scene where Saddam Hussein is piping the devil, literally. And Clive said he took me, I think I was literally foreseen. And Clive said he sat there. He said in the whole movie. was getting lower and lower in his chair. I mean, now we wet ourselves about it.
Starting point is 00:24:15 And he says he will always, moving forward, check what a film is. But he just said, I just thought it was a cartoon, so it was the only thing we watched. If anyone's got any nostalgia like the South Park Days, lost in translation at bowenmedia.co.com. WhatsApp us O'Dable 76103-9898, or follow us on social media at lost.
Starting point is 00:24:37 dot in dot podcast the other day I was doing the workshops yeah and some of the people who came to the class listening the podcast so they were doing the check-in and they were like go-castle-lawed like convince yourself yeah and I was like well done
Starting point is 00:24:51 they said it to you yeah so in the class I was keeping doing guys remember when you do this just commit to it yeah convince yourself that you are good at it do you remember in Tenerife there was a family in Tenerife who we saw
Starting point is 00:25:03 they were quite not probably I was in my age but more like your age. My age, yeah. We only signed for like three days. They have the kids and everything. One of the kids is just like a teenager, probably 16 or something like that. In fact, the mom also came because they came with a little girl and gave something to me, no?
Starting point is 00:25:20 And they just came and see that they love the podcast and they listened to the podcast. Yeah, the lad, he must have been in his teens. He come over. He said, by the way, I love your podcast. I thought, oh, bless him. Yeah, very cute. So thank you if you're listening. Before we move on, can we just say a massive thank you to all of you who vote for us.
Starting point is 00:25:36 for the podcast awards, yeah. Hopefully, now the votes are closed, they will be counting them like, find out. When do we find out, Emory? First of October's the awards. I don't know if it's before then or... Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:50 So hopefully we find out earlier if we won the award or not, but fingers crossed. Fingers crossed. If we've won, brilliant, if we've not won, whoever does, we'll just go down... Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:26:01 And bathroom. Jimma, don't hate. Congratulations, I mean. Gemma, don't hate. Congratulations, I mean. So aggressive, you know. Anyway, I'm pretty sure we will be close to win it or win it. So thank you very much.
Starting point is 00:26:14 So cocky and confident. Well, you have to be a bit, no? Yeah, you have to manifest it. So over to you guys now. Should we solve a dilemma? Yes. This week's dilemma comes from Anonymous. Anonymous.
Starting point is 00:26:35 Anonymous. Gema. Anonymous. Just read it. Anonymous. Anonymous. There we go. You've said,
Starting point is 00:26:42 Gemma and Gawker. I love the podcast, been a fan of Gemma's since, as she puts it, the Glory Days. And I've now become a big fan of Gawkers too through listening to this pod. My dilemma is with my girlfriend. We've been going out for six months and it's something that was cute at first, but now I'm finding it a little cringe. I'm all for people having passions, but my girlfriend is really into Disney and is a self-confessed Disney adult. In six months, we've already spent two weekends at Disneyland, Paris. Whenever we want to watch a film, she suggested Disney, and once talked about spicing things up in the bedroom,
Starting point is 00:27:19 she suggested I dressed up as the Beast from Beauty and the Beast, no. Although I'd like to think she was joking about that. Anyway, how would you approach telling this, telling her, because I'm happy for her to love Disney, but it's a bit too much for me to get involved too as we're both in our mid-30s? I think that's weird.
Starting point is 00:27:38 Can you imagine if I'd come one night, I don't know. I get it. If you've got kids, I get it, the whole Disney thing. You take your kids. If you ain't got kids, why you're there? Why you... I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:27:49 Some people like more than the kids, to be honest. I've never been in... Well, I'm like... I've been one in Disneyland Paris, but not Disneyland in America, but I wasn't even like... Because I was... I went for the Harry Potter thing.
Starting point is 00:28:02 Yeah. Do you what I mean? Yeah. Because when I was on the ships, we went to the Warner Brothers and Disneyland is next to it, but I really never went to... to Disneyland, I went to the Warner Brothers to watch the Harry Potter.
Starting point is 00:28:12 You know like the Harry Potter thing? I didn't, I've never been to Disney. I've never been to Paris. It's never... Called you. No, I've never been interested. I used to like Disney film. I used to love Beauty and the Beast, genuinely.
Starting point is 00:28:25 Cinderella, I loved them. The movies, but from that you go like into like, yeah, like now, being like, let's do a, my birthday, for a birthday, the party's going to be Disney party. Everybody has to be interested in. That will be weird, yeah. It would be interesting to, to, for me. find out where it's come from
Starting point is 00:28:41 is it because it's nostalgic for her maybe it reminds her of like you know happier times as a kid but I think
Starting point is 00:28:49 if you're an adult and your passion is kids stuff I you need to have adult hobbies like do you know what I mean
Starting point is 00:28:57 I mean don't get me wrong Disney makes such a good movie sometimes like I went to see Pixar ones no but not even now
Starting point is 00:29:03 when to see kids movies there is Disney movie you think it's a Disney movie and you go like oh wow this is actually better for adults than for kids more funny, you know what I mean, the inner jokes and everything like that.
Starting point is 00:29:12 But to the point of like going to like them, like, if I was you and I alone, not kids, you go like, should we go for a weekend to Disneyland? I would be like, absolutely not you go yourself. Hell on earth. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Unless you're forced to go with kids, why would you want to go there? Yeah. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:29:29 That's weird. What would you do if I ask you to dress up as beast from beauty and the beast in the bedroom? I am a beast already. If I said, I want you to wear the wig and the, I just find that. Well, I thought you would be used to because it's like when I come home from strictly shows and I sometimes have the full makeup or like and I come dress up as Halloween, you know, like, I don't know, movie week, musicals. You could just say, I mean, he's wanting advice on how he explains to her, it's not his thing,
Starting point is 00:29:56 but he's more than happy for her to be into it. Yeah, but from that, to bring me that to the night time. You could just say to her. You could do a bit like a Wardia Civil, you know what I mean? You can dress up for bedtime as a warrior's a bit. That would be more interesting. I mean, they've been Disneyland Paris twice. In six months.
Starting point is 00:30:12 In six months. You could have gone somewhere. You could have gone Italy for the weekend. Me as seven. She have never been to Disneyland. No. I bet she's well she wears the Mickey ears. I bet she wears Mickey Mouse ears in pictures.
Starting point is 00:30:24 Or like, maybe that goes to, you know when they do like the Disney collection in Zara or something like that? She will be wearing the jacket with the... Oh. Bless her. No offense. No judging, eh? I always, I mean, this is my overactive brain. and you'll agree it's ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:30:41 But anyone who dresses up in them, I always say, do you like mascots and stuff at football? I always think, who I wonder who's underneath them. Do you know what I mean? Like you see kids running to the Mickey Mouse and I always think, ooh, who's underneath it? I always panic. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:30:55 I'm not, I don't know. Yeah. I'd be like, Mia, get away from goofy. We don't know, we don't know him. Don't go and hug him. Well, it does make me cry when I see videos on Instagram when you see the little kids running, has a really sad music, like the Christina Perry music over it,
Starting point is 00:31:13 and it's little kids rushing towards Disney characters. That I genuinely love. I think it's so, so sweet. But I think if I saw adults without kids doing it, I'd probably think maybe, you could maybe just ask her, where's this, where's it come from, this love of Disney? Tell me about it. Is it from a kid?
Starting point is 00:31:33 Is it because you, is it nostalgic? Like, where's it come from? Ask her about why it is she loves it And then you could maybe say That's brilliant So next time, why don't you go with your mates Or why don't you take such a body? Why you don't go by yourself?
Starting point is 00:31:49 Yeah. And you suggest doing something Maybe you books somewhere that isn't Disney But please let us know how that chat goes Because that's the first dilemma I'm normally like okay with dilemmas But this is the first one where I'd have to If Gorka was a Disney adult
Starting point is 00:32:07 and six months in he wanted to go Disney twice I'd say you know what we've had a good six months run but this is where it ends and then I play some Disney music for you as you pack your bags and tottered off Wow
Starting point is 00:32:22 Today's game is called Don't give up your day job as you never know what's around the corner or if you'll get cancelled for being spotted having a poo in a field our producers have given us a list of jobs Mostly you, the both of them, no? You pooed in the field.
Starting point is 00:32:46 Our producers have given us a list of jobs and we have to decide which of us would have a better career in them. Okay, I like it. So who would be the best stylist? That's you, 100%. I just say it. You think you'd be a better stylist than me now. Yeah, I don't need to say it.
Starting point is 00:33:03 I know it. I own it. Who'd be the best party planner? Me. What? Yeah. You wouldn't be the best party plan. Yes, I'm very good organiser, more to detail. The thing is I don't do it, because you just organise family parties.
Starting point is 00:33:22 But if I have to organise a birthday party, I organise the whole Arduino and Alberto's Bachelor weekend, and I didn't even go there from the distance, so trust me. No, I would organise the best party. I would have all kinds of shenanigans going on. Okay. Like really fun stuff. One one.
Starting point is 00:33:38 Not organised, mine would be fun. One one. You said you'd be organized. I would. Yeah, like fun, like organized, I make sure the right has a good time. You wait till me as 16th. Okay. Who would be the best therapist?
Starting point is 00:33:52 Me? Because I listen more. You don't have the time. Sometimes I'm talking to Gorker and he answers with one word. Someone is full of herself. You not listen. Sometimes I talk to you, you don't even listen to me. You go with something else.
Starting point is 00:34:06 I pretend, oh Ludey I'm not listening, but I listen to you more than you listen to me. I can tell you three conversations that I had with you, and I say things and you just, I finish and you're like, oh, have you seen this dog? And then I was like, I go, Gem, I remember this day? No, I told you this day, and you don't remember it. Trust me, I have more memory and I listen, even if you think I'm not listening. Gawka FaceTime me the other day at an event I was with, with a load of ladies, and I wished him good luck at his high rocks event, and he said, I'm not doing a high rocks event.
Starting point is 00:34:36 He said, I'm here, but I'm not partaking. And the women actually said to me, oh, he's going to be saying on the podcast, you don't listen to him. But it's true, you don't listen. I do, I just don't judge. Do you want to read out the next one? Who will be the best travel agent? Me. Gorker, I'd say.
Starting point is 00:34:54 He's good at booking, especially if it's somewhere in Spain, because I'll just say to it. The amount of times I say to him, we just ring them and speak to them on the phone. I hate emails. If I could ring someone and just book something with them, or back in the day, teletext, I just hate sending emails.
Starting point is 00:35:11 Who will be the best competitive eater, me. Gorka, you've already seen the start of this epi he wants to do a bloody eating contest with digestive and full fat milk?
Starting point is 00:35:19 Who will be the best financial advisor? Me? 100% Yeah. I'd be good at that. Who would be the best
Starting point is 00:35:27 bartender? Me. Do you think? Yeah. Did you be like Tom Cruise in cocktail? Yeah, with no tail.
Starting point is 00:35:35 Have you seen the film cocktail? No. Have you not seen that with Tom Cruise? No. Oh, you'd like cocktail?
Starting point is 00:35:42 I don't know. I'll try. Oh, you'd write an Elizabeth shoe. She was big in the 80s and 90s. Oh, I've still all moving now, probably won't. No, honestly, you will. You will like that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:35:54 You can say we are from different eras, yeah? Decades, sorry. Who would be the best taxi driver? Gemma. Me. I always, I'm our designated driver. I drive on holiday, I drive here. I love driving.
Starting point is 00:36:07 Who would be the best teacher? Me. Gorker. Who would be the best cleaner? Me. Go, okay. Who would be the best children's entertainer? It depends.
Starting point is 00:36:17 Me, probably. No, he depends. We're both very good with the kids, but probably me. Okay. I'll let you have that. No, I'm trying to, I think we both, we've been doing this thing recently because Tiago's in his big boy bed, as you all know, there's a massive Hulk bed now.
Starting point is 00:36:35 And it's funny, Tiago's very much a mummy's boy. And like when you say, let's put you to bed, he says, no, I want mummy to put me to bed. And Mia's very much a daddy's girl. Who did him to bed last night? Well, you did last night because I went in the sauna. Yeah, and the night before? Me.
Starting point is 00:36:51 Not this week. Whereas Mia's very much a... Yeah, we have. A daddy's girl, and she, I'll say, let's put his bed and she says, no, I want Papa to. She will wait even. Yeah, so it's interesting how they've both kind of... But my mum says that will change as well as they get older,
Starting point is 00:37:07 because you remember Mia went through her phase when she was little. She would never, she wouldn't do anything unless it was with me. Yeah, it was, I think, when I was away. Yeah, she used to be always with me, and then I used to go away, and then she didn't even want me. Yeah. And then she wouldn't go to him. It was all me, me, me, and now she's Gorker and Tiago's me.
Starting point is 00:37:25 And my mum said as they get older, it will change as well where Tiago won't gok her. But, yeah. Oh, that was a good game. Very nice. Well, that's everything we have for today. Yeah. Thank you so much for listening.
