Starting point is 00:00:01 Coming up. Proximaimente. I actually filmed an episode of Holyoogues in the Eiffel Tower. It was just like Blackpool but taller. See, this is the Spanish and English, lost in translation. I'm like, just whatever. He kind of been in each other's lives, had amazing children, but now romantically there's nothing there.
Starting point is 00:00:19 And then she walks up to you, didn't she went, So, is this boy in class? Me, I'm not talking about it. I don't want to know the ins and outs. She said, but I want you to know that doesn't happen again. And I was like, okay. If he really organized you, Papa. Especially thinks, whereas mum's just a shit show.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Gorker has to say to me, Gemma, can you get him, please? Because he looks at Gorka like a piece of shit. I love Benji. I'm not worried about Benji. My name is my favourite human. I mean, you can't refurbish a pyramid that was made by an Egyptian. Or was it? Was it aliens?

Starting point is 00:02:29 Podcast. Loss. Dot in. Podcast. Yeah, that's good. And the email address, do you want to do that? You can do that. Lost in translation.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Lost in translation at bowermedia. com. really do appreciate all your messages or your lovely support. It's great that this pot is almost a year old. Yes. I'll have to have a Lost in Translation birthday party. Like a candle and cakes and everything, yeah. Like a candle, something fun.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Like on a cake and a candle, yeah. Well, we'll definitely do something. What do you want to do? I don't know. Just something to mark the fact. Like Lost in Translation birthday party. Yeah, we can go for lunch or something like that. Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Yeah. Speaking of birthdays, the team. the big team in London, I've said for our first birthday, The Lost in Translation, the listeners, you, the good viewers, the good listeners, get to choose what object goes in the middle of us here. You know what I'm thinking here? It's currently a plant. You know, if I was me, I would make this like a little, like, you know, like a little,
Starting point is 00:03:28 not desk, but you know, like a little table thing, like a cabinet thing that we have in our corner in our living room with a nice coffee machine. So we can make coffees during the recording so then we can have a coffee, make it more like our home. And a biscuit draw. Yes. And you guys... Pink wafers.
Starting point is 00:03:43 And you guys feel like we are in your living room also. So that would be nice. And then here in the middle, I will have three big frames with pictures of us, like in black and white, of us, the family, the kids and the dogs. Okay. That's what I will do. You know, like a big black frames? But it's not up to us.
Starting point is 00:03:59 It's up to the listeners. I know, but just giving an idea, for example. He's just giving you ideas, just subtly telling you what to vote for. Because I will make it like, you know, like big three frames. picture of us, you know, picture of the kids and a picture of Benji or also Benji, and maybe one with Benji, Norman and Oli, because even if they are not here with us, they are here with us. Always.
Starting point is 00:04:19 So that's what I would do. And then here have a little, like we call a comora with a little nice coffee machine and the little mugs here, lost in translation mugs would be nice, you know. Yeah. And one they said, flush your teeth and the other one says, for example, a thumb and a softy. Thamin a soft milk. That would be lovely. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:36 And then the little biscuit or a little yolk. glass see-through with digestive biscoves. You can even have a fake book with dilemmas on the spine of it. So we can read your dilemmas from the book, but would it be real? Or write them in there, the dilemmas. Every week we write our dilemma. And then at the end of the season, we have that book full of dilemmas. And we can give it to some other listeners.
Starting point is 00:05:02 And we can say we survived a full year with each other despite all these dilemmas. We can write funny things on the episode. and then at the end of the season of one year, we give that to a listener, a random listener, we just give to that. As a memory. Well, there you go. It's up to you guys.
Starting point is 00:05:17 But that's what I would do. Yeah. You've got the details. So buses, that's what I would do. Let us know what you want in between me and Gorker from forever more episodes moving forward. Can you believe it's been a year, though, nearly? I know.
Starting point is 00:05:38 I mean, crakey. I mean, it's been seven. Eight. Eight years. Cracky. Nine years. Do you think we're going to make it to ten? Well, I'd hope so. Why, do you not?
Starting point is 00:05:48 Are you thinking otherwise? No. You might get the ten-year rich. Is it the seven-year-rich people not? I don't know. Yeah. We've got past seven years, so we'll be all right. I think if you've been with someone,
Starting point is 00:05:58 I had this chat with Matt at work, because Matt's been with his wife, Helen, for a long time, two kids. And we were saying, I think you get to a stage with a couple whereby you've been together for so long, unless some of really bad happened, why would you just be like, oh, do you know what, it's done now? He said, because you,
Starting point is 00:06:19 he said in the nicest way, the things that annoy you about someone at the start of a relationship, he said, if it's the right person, you learn to just not get annoyed by them. Do you know what I mean? Or maybe keep you annoying you all the time, but it's just part of them.
Starting point is 00:06:33 So it's like, I don't know if the suitcases, when you come back from tour, I see it and I think, friggin' hell. And then I'm like, oh, it's just, just what Gorka does, yeah. It's just part of him. And he said the things that you want deemed as flaws are annoying in someone
Starting point is 00:06:47 after so many years, you just, it's part of them, so you just get on with it. Yeah, but what if you do is just... If you started to make new, it's different, but... Yeah, but what also, for example, after 10 years, you just don't feel the same way, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:07:00 Well, a lot of people, my mom included, the reason my mom and dad divorced was because she said when the kids, when the kids, as in me and my sister grew up, she said, they realized they didn't have anything else in common. You know, they worked together and they stayed mates until my dad passed away. You know, there was nothing bad, which me and my sister are very grateful for
Starting point is 00:07:19 because I still saw my dad loads and he used to come in the house and vice versa. But she just said when you and Nina were self-sufficient, we were both like, wow, we've realised what we had in common in a relationship was the fact that we had two little kids and we cared for them and we did these family trips and did it. When you suddenly wanted to go out with your mates on a weekend instead of seeing us, it was just a two. two of us, we were like, wow, we've kind of been in each other's lives, had amazing children, but now romantically there's nothing there. And that can happen for a lot of people. It can also happen. The opposite side was my sister, Nina and Rob, their youngest is 23. Nina and Rob are still in their 40s because they started really early with the kids. So now they've been going on holiday together for a long time. And Rob said to me, he said, first time I went on holiday with your sister,
Starting point is 00:08:08 just the two of us, he said, I thought, what do we do? Where's the kid clubs? Where's this? Where's that? He said, but it's brilliant because we've realized, without the kids, we've got so much in common that we couldn't do
Starting point is 00:08:18 because of the kids. So I think it can be one or the other. Yeah, could be, yeah. Which is frightening, but also exciting. But it's also good happening also. I feel like sometimes, like, you, for example,
Starting point is 00:08:29 you have a relationship. You are too alone, and then you have children, and then you, obviously you're priority the children, but sometimes you forget about the... The relationship, yeah. And so that's also the wrong
Starting point is 00:08:39 because then it's when you forget about everything and you just, focus on the kids. Sometimes you need to make time for yourself also. Because if you know, it can happen that. When the kids grow, it's like, my mom used to say, like, yeah, we are like, you are our children and everything, but when it gets to a point that you got self-efficient and you don't want to, like, be with us, like, all the time and you just want to go
Starting point is 00:08:57 17-18. With my mate to the beach. Like, he got on a point that I was 16 and after the school, I was to the beach with my friends. Or on the weekends, my mind used to go to the beach. No, I'm going with my mates. And I was on the same beach, but with my friends. So they are only in their own.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Yeah. So if you forget about yourselves during that process of growing up children, then you're after going to get on a point. You're going to be like, oh, not what we do. You know what? Because it could be like 10, 12 years. Which is what my mom and dad did. They were like, the kids are grown.
Starting point is 00:09:23 You know, so they both started again. But, yeah, it's as if we've gone to the possibilities. But we're not even at nine years yet. We've got to wait until February, February the 5th. Anyway, enough about that. We haven't reached even nine years. So let's find out when we've reached. which nine years.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Just find the positives. Yeah. It's World Parents Day. It was on Sunday, wasn't it? Yes. So you are a mom, I'm a dad. We are both parents. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:50 So what is the best thing for you being a parent? The best thing? I mean, it's many. Yeah, I was going to say there's loads. I mean, it's the most rewarding yet exhausting job in one thing. It's seeing the different phases that the kids go through for me. It's the fact that you have a baby and the things. this little podgy little thing that can't function at all without you.
Starting point is 00:10:14 And it looks like they have elastic bands around their little wrists because of the fat rolls. And you think, oh, God, bless them. But then that goes. But then you have the little toddler. And every day they ask a question that blows your mind. Like, can I say this? Can I eat that?
Starting point is 00:10:29 Can I do that? And you think, oh, my gosh, look at you. And then in replacement of that toddler, you get a little sassy girl or a little cocky boy, like me has got the sassie. and she speaks to us about boys and this, and I need some new crop tops and all this, things that make Gork could, like, shrink in his chair.
Starting point is 00:10:49 And then soon there'll be a teenager and there'll be hormones. So it's seeing the phases they go through because on one part it's so sad because you think you're never going to have that little baby again or that little toddler again. But then you're so happy because for them, this like new adventures, new friend, new memories to make. So that for me is the best part that seeing them develop
Starting point is 00:11:15 and having to have a different phase every single few months. Look at you getting teary-eyed. No, I mean, just for me, just it makes me like, just be seeing like a human growing and see, like, everything like developing and their personality and going through things. Like, for me, it's like you get to see life. Through them again.
Starting point is 00:11:33 Like, I don't know. You have memories as a kid, you know? Yeah. But you don't kind of like have memories. Now you feel like you're seeing life again. through the eyes of them growing up, like from the little, and it's up to us how a little person grows with values, with things that they know is right and wrong, caring about things, you know.
Starting point is 00:11:52 So it's very special. Big responsibility. Yeah, no, but it's very special. And I just see, like, me I'm seven now, and just seeing her, like you said, from depend on you, to now she's the one helping her brother to, like, dress or, like, doing things, you know what I mean? Like, for example, the other day,
Starting point is 00:12:07 we were in bed and having a conversation about her special friend. She's seven. I'm like, you're not even 17 yet, yeah? But you know what? I was getting there because I was thinking about that. We were in bed and we were talking about that. And I said, what would you like about him? She's like, oh, because he makes me smile.
Starting point is 00:12:23 It makes me laugh. And I was, oh, that's very good. And then we were like, anyway, I'm going to go bed. And she just stood around to sleep, yeah? And then she went, oh, that one more thing about him. And I was like, you know, sometimes we don't even talk. We just look at each other and go like, and smile. And I was like, oh gosh, don't know.
Starting point is 00:12:41 A little boyfriend in class. Do I mean? It was like, you're seven, but she's already aware of like the feelings of like, oh, we don't even say. That butterfly. She was like, we don't even say anything. We just look at each other and he just smiled at me and I smile back. And I'm like, Mia, please you seven. Well, it took her a while because she told me about this the other week and then she made me promise not to tell you.
Starting point is 00:13:01 And I said, why don't you want to tell Papa? And she said, well, I don't know how you'll feel about it. and I said you don't have any secrets you don't have to have any secrets from Mumme and Papa about anything and she was like anything I said no I said when things are great you tell Mummy and Papa and we'll celebrate I said when things get tough you tell Mummy and Papa and we will help you I said if you worried about anything you tell Mumme and Papa
Starting point is 00:13:23 and we'll share that worry about your little goal you know what I did actually because I started to do this a lot now with her because you know how we used to record sometimes videos but when you see you with the phone she stops yeah so I want to have all these members for the end of one day, you know, make like a video of her memories. Yeah. So when, like today, when we're playing doctors in the morning the other day,
Starting point is 00:13:44 and she was very like saying things about the bites and how very specific. So I get my phone and I get the voice notes and I record voice notes. So I have the voice, when she was telling you or me in bed about the boy, I have the voice note of her explaining why she likes him and her. So I have the voice note of her voice on my recordings. She said, will he be angry? I said, why would he be angry? I said you're allowed to have a little crush on somebody
Starting point is 00:14:09 I said it's I said Papa's got a crush on me and I and then she went okay and then we walked in the house of the day and she came up to me and she went I'm gonna tell him and then she walks up to you didn't she she went so there's this boy in class
Starting point is 00:14:23 and you just went oh but she spoke to you for ages about it didn't she? Now she speaks all the time because I asked her even in the car yesterday I used to be how was it school or like the other day when I was saying to her about the paddling pool
Starting point is 00:14:35 and cleaning it was she was like oh no i wasn't talking about that i was talking about the boy i'm talking about her she goes really deep in it but yeah i do want them to always know yeah they can tell us anything even when they're in trouble and we used to have house parties at this lads house called neil he was lovely neal and he used to always throw house parties and everyone once it was just horrendous loads of music mad dog 2020 all kinds of stuff and everyone was like the police got called back in school and i remember everyone's saying oh my god i can't let my mom find out I turned to Marissa, one of my best friends, and went, I need to ring my mum, she'll come and get us.
Starting point is 00:15:10 And I knew that my mum was going to bollick me, but I also knew that she would come and get me. And I rung her on my little BT cell net flip phone. And I was like, I'm at Neals and the police have been called. She said, for God's sake, but she pulled up. She got me and Marissa in the car, and she took us away from the situation. She got me in bed and in the morning. I said, Mom, she said, I'm not talking about it.
Starting point is 00:15:33 I don't want to know the ins and outs. She said, but I want you to know, that doesn't happen again. And I was like, okay. And she said, but I'm glad you wrong me. And I always want me to know. I knew I was in trouble, but I knew she'd get me out of it as well. And that's what I want them to know. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:15:47 Not like my mom will batter me, even though I will afterwards. So that was for parents' world day. Very good. Kids don't grow so quick, please. They go so fast. Remember when someone's just like, made the most of her because they grow very quick. Like, yeah, yeah, sure, sure. I know.
Starting point is 00:16:03 When you've got a newborn and you're exhausted, you're thinking, I need this face to go quick because I'm going to lose my mind. And then when it's gone, you're like, oh, it's sad. The next question that the producers, producer Henri has asked, if you were to name something after the other person, what would it be?
Starting point is 00:16:19 I know what mine would be. A dog. Or a sanctuary. I'd like to, I like a little, well, I've got a kennel named after me at Bleak Hole, a little cat kennel. Because I adopted a cat. I didn't tell you because you're frightened to death of them.
Starting point is 00:16:32 No, no, that's fine. Whatever you want to do, what you do? It doesn't live with us, obviously. I pay for it every year, and I get a Christmas card of him every year. But if you go to Bleakol, it's the very end kennel on the left. It's got my picture with them. I'm sure one day... It's my catery.
Starting point is 00:16:46 I think one day will be an animal called, like Gemma, like a dog or something like that. Yeah. You know, like a lazy, floppy dog. The Gemma dog? Yeah. I'm trying to think what I'd name after you. Probably like a meal that you've con... What do you say, conjured, concocted?
Starting point is 00:17:02 Like a gurgis bake bake. Because he makes things just taste so, so nice. Even when we had people around for the party, he did some hummus, but just the hummus itself wasn't enough. He put paprika on it. Put more olive oil on it. Put proper big whole chickpeas in it.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Black pepper, salt. If he does porridge, it's not just porridge oats and milk like I'd make. He puts cinnamon in it. He puts a cinnamon stick, sliced apple, a bit of maple syrup. You're always good at topping things. off. Yeah, make it nicer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:33 I said the other day, I said, when you were for a break? If I was like, can I have an anomaly then a porridge? I was like, yes, I made it. And then she was like, she came back. She was like, Papa, you are good at cooking an idea. And I was like, oh, thanks. And this was like, Papa, you're very tired. I was very organized.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Yeah, she told him, you've very organized you, Papa. Whereas she thinks, whereas mom's just a shit show of meth. Well, I'm tired. Should we read some lovely listener messages? Yes, shall we? For anyone who does want to get in touch, it's old. 7-6103-9-898. You can WhatsApp us our voice note and it comes through to Henry.
Starting point is 00:18:08 I can read Sarah if you want to. Yeah, you read Sarah. So a long message from Sarah says, Hi, German Gorka. I have only just recently discovered your podcast. So I'm glad that you discovered it and thank you for listening to us. So I am having a well of a time listening to all the episodes from since you started. So probably 41.
Starting point is 00:18:29 A couple of weeks might take you. I'm currently up to the time. the beginning of 2026 where Gemma is adamant that you are getting another dog but Gorka is equally adamant that you are not. I'm telling you we will have probably another dog at one point, even if I'm not another man to have it. But yesterday, not yesterday, the other day she said she said she would have a horse now. No, I said I would love one, but practically I can't look after one. I'll say, have it. I don't know if this is still relevant or whether you have got a second dog since then, but I want to tell you about when we got our first dog.
Starting point is 00:19:04 My husband say, categorically? Categorically. So my husband, sigh, categorically said. We shouldn't get one, but I was desperate to get my first dog. I will see in a kind Charles Cavalier on the tube years earlier when I was commuting home. So I was set on what I wanted. You like that dogs, no? Yeah, I like any dogs.
Starting point is 00:19:26 Yeah, that's true. So I secretly contact a local breeder. Snuck off there to visit the puppies. Can you read this place? Snuck off there to visit the puppies and choose one with my daughter who was eight at the time. And six weeks later I brought home Lola without telling Sai anything about it. My husband was so across that he didn't speak to me for at least two months. So my advice, Gemma, is to just go for it as I provide me with peace and quiet for a good couple of months.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Because he didn't speak to her. She had peace and quiet. Oh, I won't be like your husband. I would be speaking to her, but like Victor Meldrew every day, probably. She said, of course my husband now loves Lola, arguably even more than the girls do. So I regularly say, I told you so. But despite this, same as Gawker, he incorrectly thinks he doesn't want a second. Therefore, I'm planning exactly the same tactics for number two.
Starting point is 00:20:17 So I'll let you know how it goes and whether it just leads to another two months of peace or permanently not hearing from him again. I don't mind to have another dog. I would love to have another Benji. I'm happy for that. For me, it's not about that I don't want another dog. We have different preferences in breeds. Not even the breeds.
Starting point is 00:20:33 It's also the logistics. Like with the busy schedules, the two children and us like traveling a lot for work and everything, the dogs rely sometimes in your parents. For them to help with the children and a dog plus another dog is not fair on them. And also when we go on holidays, all of us for like two weeks, they will have to stay with the two dogs. So it's not fair on them. It wasn't fair already with Norman and Ollie. There was a lot of work.
Starting point is 00:20:59 They keep them active. They love walking. But before we got Benji, I was set on, I love German Shepherds. I think they're wonderful. They mauled. And then I went to Bleakol and did remember that? I've phasedimed you because there was a German Shepherd puppy. Someone had left a German Shepherd puppy.
Starting point is 00:21:14 And I FaceTime Gawker and showed him this German Shepherd puppy that had been left at the sanctuary. And I was like, Gawker, please look. His paws were so big, yeah, big paws. And he didn't go for it. You do it's another dog that I will have? What? Yeah?
Starting point is 00:21:31 And because I love golden retrievers, yeah? But I also love Beethoven's. So it will be Sam Bernard, cross with a puddle. I'm not being funny, if you think Benji's big and molts, that's bigger and will malt more. That's a malt.
Starting point is 00:21:44 It does malt. I don't think Benji molds, that's bigger, that's what I want to. Because I wanted to have a large golden duttle. Put large golden dutle. That was the dog that I always wanted to have. I mean, that's massive, that dog. Living with a dog that size with you, Gorker,
Starting point is 00:21:59 No, because you wouldn't want him upstairs with muddy footprints, loads of bath, loads of hair. You would be stressed. They look cute, but you would be stressed. But the problem is not a lot. The problem is the way that you just breathe him. Breeding. I didn't breathe him.
Starting point is 00:22:13 I'm happy with Benji had been upstairs, not in the bed. If he's upstairs in the floor, it's absolutely fine. But that's not down to the dog. That's on to you. Did you allow him all the time? Yeah, because it's your problem. It's my priority. No, it's not your priority.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Should we read Sally's message from Brighton? Yes. Sally says, hi, Gemmer and Gorka, I was listening to your podcast, mentioning that someone had moaned about you sitting with your arms crossed. Well, my husband finds that comfortable too. I sometimes telling me looks like a bouncer at a nightclub. Anyway, a few years ago I went to Vegas and ended up sitting in the front row at a comedy show. At the end of the first act, the comedian was very cross as said to my husband, not to sit like that when the comedian comes out as it's very off-putting. We did explain that's just what he does. It doesn't mean anything by it, but he wasn't happy. I love listening to you both and I'm doing the boring chores Love from Sally in Brighton
Starting point is 00:23:01 Oh, how interesting Yeah, because it's supposed to be like, it's like a not, like you're not open to like receive It's like you just, you know what I mean? But someone can't tell you not to sit like that Because it offends them But it's the same thing I'm on tour You know what is the most annoying thing
Starting point is 00:23:14 When you go on tour? Sometimes you go to one tour in the first road You start the show, first dance You look at the first road You have people in the face row like this Asleep? That's normally a matinee though, isn't it? No, but you go like, listen
Starting point is 00:23:26 I'm not forcing you to come here. You spend the amount on the ticket, but at least don't fall asleep with you haven't even to start the show. Yeah, but you have to understand with every single show, like there's always someone who's gone as a favour to someone else.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Laura and Will took their daughter and their daughter's friend to watch James Arthur recently. Laura said it was so awkward because she said her and Will were the oldest there and she said they were really close to the stage and she said she kept having
Starting point is 00:23:52 like uncomfortable eye contact with James Arthur and in the end she said, Will said, I'm going to go and wait in the bar. He's like, I've got no desire to be here with a load of screaming girls. But she said he was like meters from James Arfa while James was singing. So Will was there. And he probably, if James probably saw him, but he thought, that man's so bored. But Will was there because he took his kids and Laura.
Starting point is 00:24:16 So he went and sat in the bar. So there might be people who've come to strictly because he's brought his elderly mum. His elderly ones obsessed. But he's having a rest. You look bored. sleep. Yeah, I fell asleep in the cinema once. It was, I was jet-lagged. I was watching the, is it called Lincoln? Do you remember it? It was out years ago and it's like three hours long. Yeah, but that's a movie. You know that you have live performance, do you I mean? No. But sometimes
Starting point is 00:24:39 the live performance is they relax you with the lights, the lights are dark and you're kind of in a comfy seat and you think, oh, maybe I don't know. But thank you for listening, Sally. Do you want to read my shows? Yes. I love watching your pot and look forward to it every week. I think you are a fab couple, I love the band that you have together. There is not been a way where I have no laugh at you both, and you are hilarious stories. I'm disabled and don't get out that often, but I will definitely love to see you if you take the pot on the road. Oh, thank you, Michelle, yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:11 I'll have to keep your details, and if you do the pod, we'll get Henry to get in touch with you, Michelle. Yes, you can come and see us and say hello. Get you out on the road with us. Just don't fall asleep, though. Anyone who comes to our pod, you know, you've just been worried. warned don't fall asleep because I will call you out of you for the last year.
Starting point is 00:25:27 You're right, you're having a rest there. But feel free to sit with your arms folded in the audience. Feel free to sit how you want, wear what you want, heckle what you want. We've had some messages of people who have been talking about sayings from their household. Sean from Nottingham says, I, Gemma, Gorka, I'm from Nottingham, East Midlands
Starting point is 00:25:46 and I was watching your pod about old sayings on YouTube last week. I forget we're on YouTube as well. We use the same sayings when you leave the door open it was you born in a barn I told you that one didn't I? And also in the lights are on it do you think this is Blackpool Bloody Tower? Also my dad used to say when we were younger
Starting point is 00:26:03 you better get up them apples and pears that means stairs get up the apples and pears Gemma I used to watch you in Emmerdale and Gawker your tattoos are amazing Big love to you and your family Thank you Sean And one more from Sam
Starting point is 00:26:17 My mum used to say Get up the wooden hill to bed Meaning get up the stairs and go to bed Get up that wooden hill Oh, I can see that now, yeah Because the wood, no steps stairs the wood, yeah And our final message this week
Starting point is 00:26:29 is from Penny We have got a dilemma For us to answer so Gema If you like to read the dilemma Yeah, Penny, this is your dilemma Thanks to Shell for sponsoring the show It's summer which means A lot of us are using the car to get around
Starting point is 00:26:48 And thankfully we know we can rely On Shell for everything we need When we are on the road or at home Especially in the summer holidays when Gawker's planning a barbecue for the family. My favourite bits. Your favourite bits. When we have early morning call times for work,
Starting point is 00:27:03 we can get our coffees on the go. And with the Shell Reward app, Gawker can get it all for a cheaper price as well. I think I'm the fun number one of the Shell app now. I use all the time to get my points, but I think I use them all already in petrol, in coffers. Me and Tiago, after the school picket,
Starting point is 00:27:19 they want to go there to get pick and mix. You can even get your birthday cards from our local Shell garage. Is that where you go my birthday card from? No, it's not where I got yours from. But you can get a Shell birthday card. You can get everything from there, you know? Everything.
Starting point is 00:27:30 It's like a mini supermarket all in one. So whatever you're up to for the summer holidays, Shell is the place to go and get everything you need. And with the Shell app, Go Plus Reward members can get exclusive discounts as well. So get yourself signed up now. Like I did. Okay, dokey.
Starting point is 00:27:52 So Penny's dilemma. Hi, Gemma and Gorka. I need your advice on a potentially awkward situation. I love an awkward situation. that I'm going to have with the lady we bought our new house off. Oh, especially with someone that you buy a house from. I love it. She's a lovely old lady who had to downside after her husband passed away earlier this year.
Starting point is 00:28:10 It's a perfect home for our family and I feel that we'll still be in it when me and my husband reached the previous owner's age two. The lady has been back a few times to pick up some mail, and I'll always invite her in for a cup of tea while she's here. She's always commenting on how happy she is that we've kept the water feature in the back garden as it's meant a lot to her and her late husband. The problem is that me and my husband, but I think it's hideous.
Starting point is 00:28:31 I've grown to really like our chats and I feel like even when her mail stops come into my house, I'll probably still invite around as she hasn't got many other people. But what do I do about the water feature? Thanks for reading this out. I love the pod, Penny. Oh gosh.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Well, you know, you pay for it. It's your house. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe you can do this. If it was me, I would read of it. No feelings, no emotions. Don't care what the lady will think.
Starting point is 00:28:58 but because you probably have feelings and care, what I would do is maybe don't remove the water feature, just replace it for a water feature that you like and you think could feel on the garden. So she's still having the water feature. She might not feel upset and due respect, even if she's all the house. But you have something that you like, you know?
Starting point is 00:29:21 You could tell her it's a gift. So get the water feature taken out and just say we feel like, because it means so much to you, it needs to come with you to your new house. You always have a better answer to me, you know? Because women think about the process more. We've discussed this already.
Starting point is 00:29:38 You don't want to hurt her feelings. It's sentimental to her and her husband. Do you know what I mean? If you had something that was sentimental to me and you and I'd passed on, you wouldn't want someone to just get rid of it and tip it. You'd probably tip it yourself accidentally. Then she would have sold a house and said,
Starting point is 00:29:53 sorry, I'm still the house, but I'm taking this with me. But she might not have been able to. She's an older lady. So I would say We know it means a lot to you We're going to give it you And put it in your garden for you So you can look at it every morning
Starting point is 00:30:05 And think of your husband Meanwhile me and my new husband Can get one we like And create our memories This is the Spanish and English Lost in translation You'm like just whatever You're more like into their emotions
Starting point is 00:30:16 It's like you know The singer Adele She's bought Sylvester Stallone's old house Really? And she's had it all renovated Yeah I can know that She's had it renovated
Starting point is 00:30:24 But she's kept the rocky statue At the bottom of the garden She said she couldn't get rid of that rocky statue. Not that it means anything to her, but she's like, it's rocky. It's a legend, a legacy. It's inspired a generation of people to train, to get into boxing. Which house by from him in a lay or where? Yeah, Google it.
Starting point is 00:30:40 It's massive. Of course you know that because you're obsessed with his salon. It's the one from his documentary, so it's the big white one with the brown trim. Oh, why he sold that? He's moving hard because he was on his documentary. He's downsizing because the kids have all moved out. So he's sad. But how ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:30:57 social media is. So I posted about Stallone's birthday and someone message me telling me they were disappointed in me for liking Sylvester Stallone because Sylvester Stallone knows Trump and Trump's an idiot. And I was thinking, hang on. So from a chain of people you don't know and have never met, you've decided you're very disappointed in me for wishing someone happy birthday for being friends with someone who you think's an idiot. I was thinking, I was going through it thinking, freaking hell that's a It's a big thing to be I'm so she said I'm so disappointed in you Gemma
Starting point is 00:31:31 I can't believe you like that man He likes Trump so he must be this this and this And I was like what I mean the chain of events of disappointment Down the ladder Like somehow now I'm a Trump supporter Because I wish Stallone a happy birthday I was like freak me
Starting point is 00:31:49 There's some more people around the world anyway So what is the conclusion then The conclusion is If it's not massive and it can be dug up and taken out, I would say, do you know what, it means a lot to you, put it in your garden, we're going to get a new one. Or just, I was going to say, break it and say it broke, but then no, because that could be an omen from the hubby,
Starting point is 00:32:10 it could be haunting you for a life penny. So that would be my thing to do. If it was within reason and budget to move it to her garden, she'll think, oh my God, what a sweet thing they've done for me. Because she might be hinting for that anyway, do you know what I mean? When I'm a little old lady, I'm going to be, I'm going to be tea leaf and everything. I hope I get to a stage where I don't care. I hope I get to a stage where I say what I think.
Starting point is 00:32:33 I'm fart and not give a crap. You know, like, I mean, my grandma used to walk around trumping, and she didn't, she weren't bothered because grandma, and she'd be like, I'm not bothered. You get to that stage in life. So she might be in a purpose thinking, I'm going to keep going on about this statue so they eventually give it me. She said I mean, she might have an ulterior motive. Maybe, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:52 So keep us posted, Penny. Yeah. but hopefully it helps what we I mean I don't know if we help or not but I should do but I'm glad you found you forever home I know and like you say if it is your forever home
Starting point is 00:33:03 you don't want a statue that you don't like in it yeah it's not a statue I watch a feature but thank you for getting in touch any dilemmas for anyone else 076103-98998 Lost.com Do you know what I would like to do now
Starting point is 00:33:16 if you have any dilemmas that happen to you on holidays holiday dilemmas send it to us because that will be fun also because then we will tell you tell you we have any dilemmas, you know, who's getting the kids ready, I want to be in the pool on the beach, I want to have some bed and nod, you know?
Starting point is 00:33:32 It's going to be hard this year because Tiago runs a lot now. It's fine. Get you the steps in. Anyway, should we play a game? I'm really loved ready for a game. I love games. Then, then, thin, thin. Our sponsor today is Whoop, and I honestly wish I had my whoop when Mia was tiny and I was
Starting point is 00:33:56 running on about three hours sleep. I'm wondering why I felt like absolute rubbish. And now I still feel like rabbi some times, but at least now we know why. Whoop tell us what our bodies are really doing. Right? And instead of going, I'm tired. I don't know why. Maybe it's the weather.
Starting point is 00:34:11 It's like having a little coach, a little PT, that actually stays on your arm. Actually, my recovery's been 25% actually, so it's told me not to go into a massive workout. I need to rest. For me, it's about understanding when I can push in training versus when my body needs rest,
Starting point is 00:34:26 because with dance, tour, the kids, with everything, you think you should always be going full speed. But you can't, that's the thing. And whoop helps you make smarter decisions with your training instead of just guessing it. Like, should I have that extra coffee and get an early night? Listen to your whoop. It tracks your sleep, strain and recovery.
Starting point is 00:34:46 All the things that busy parents never have time to think about it. But probably we should. Exactly. It's like finally understanding your own energy instead of just hoping for the best. and wondering why you're knackered by Tuesday. If you want to stop guessing and start understanding what your body actually needs, go to whoop.com.
Starting point is 00:35:10 Our producers have given us a list of one-star reviews for famous landmarks around the world, and we've got to try and guess what the landmark is. These games are ace, Henry. Do you think of them? How do you come up with them? Well, executive producer Lawrence thought of this one, but every other one is my idea. Okay.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Brilliant. So this is the... I know what this one is. this is amazing. I know what this is it already. So this one-star review, it says, not romantic at all, didn't give me a hot BF.
Starting point is 00:35:39 I reckon, and I say this because I've been there and I didn't think it was romantic or nice or anything, and I'm going to offend people. Is it the Eiffel Tower? It is, yeah. Yeah? I went to the Eiffel Tower thinking,
Starting point is 00:35:52 oh, come on, this is going to be romantic, it's this. I was just, it was, I actually filmed an episode of Holyoaks in the Eiffel Tower, and it was, rusty and it smelled and it was full of bird poo and it was full of rubbish at the top and I was like there was now romantic about it for me it didn't sparkle it wasn't in the nights maybe that's why I've seen it sparkle and that's that's good is that better in the day it's just it was just like blackpool but taller I mean if I would go to I will I've been in Paris once
Starting point is 00:36:21 and it was for dancing so I didn't see much anyway but when I was there I thought it was very dirty in the story yeah I didn't I wasn't blown away by it I would I would rather go to Paris to eat croissons than towards the Eiffel Tower to be honest. Yeah. It doesn't, it doesn't, for me, people go mad about it. No. It doesn't appeal me. No, I was shocked.
Starting point is 00:36:40 I'll tell you, I will go to Paris to do shopping and eat croissons. I mean, it's an impressive building. You know, it's impressive. Yeah, when you're underneath it, you go, friggin' hell, that's impressive. But it doesn't make you feel romantic. You're just a bit like, ooh, the amount of, it was just, yeah, I was just walking up it going, ooh, I didn't want to touch anything. I would find them more romantic being in a coffee shop with you there and having a nice
Starting point is 00:36:58 crosson. a gondola? No, that's Italy. Venice. Wrong countries. The next one-star review about the famous landmark. It was rather disappointed. I was very thirsty inside and there was no bending machines or a cafe to get a refreshment.
Starting point is 00:37:16 Also, they badly need refurbish. It looks like it's been 200 years since they were built, very poor brick. Is it the pyramids? It is the pyramids, yeah. Gemma, well done. No, my dad. my dad used to work away because he, in his company, he used to have to have offices in China or in America,
Starting point is 00:37:35 and he went to Egypt on a work trip, and he was so excited to see the pyramids. My dad, he used to love that, walk like an Egyptian, oh. He was so excited, and he'd come home, and I remember saying to him, I can picture him now, bless him with his briefcase. I was like, how was it?
Starting point is 00:37:48 And he went awful. He said there was dirty nappies at the bottom of the pyramid. And I was like, what? And this was years ago, like over 20 years ago. And I was like, really? He said, yep, he said it wasn't, It wasn't like I thought it would be. Might have changed now.
Starting point is 00:38:01 I'm going back 20 odd years, but he did say to me that whole work trip, he was so chuffed to be at a pyramid and he'd come back and say it was now. I think it's better to just keep the image that you see in the movies. Yeah. The edgy prints, something like that.
Starting point is 00:38:15 Just keep with that memory, it looks like all that like desert with the palm trees and stuff like that. But I love how they said it looks, it needs a refurbish. It looks like they've been 200 years. That's the point of them. I mean, you can't refurbish a pyramid
Starting point is 00:38:27 that was made by an Egyptian. or was it, was it aliens, I could go down a rabbit hole with this? Really? Really? Yeah. Do you think it was no Egyptians? Do you know what happened on the third of the third? Do you remember when there was the synchronisation of the pyramids,
Starting point is 00:38:44 when I kept saying, how many times did I see the number 33 that in one day seven times? My petrol tank, the power cut went in the house, everything was on 333. I had 333 miles left. The ticket I picked up was seat 33. I saw it everywhere. Something happened with the pyramids that only people who were in tune and spiritual would be affected by on the third of the...
Starting point is 00:39:10 It was ridiculous. I mean, I don't know if they were built by Egyptians or aliens. That's all I'm going to say. Maybe it was an alien. How did they get the tools and the cranes and the... How did they carry all them? Anyway. Next one.
Starting point is 00:39:26 I mean, it was... okay. If you like to stare and listen to some water, Niagara Falls? Yeah, Niagara Falls. It was okay if you like to stare and listen to water. Yeah, Niagara Falls. Have you been there? No. Very disappointing. Nothing to do inside. No bars or game consoles for the kids. And I also didn't feel very safe. It was if the whole building was leaning to one side. Pisa. Yeah. Yeah, it is. No? The leaning tower of Pisa. That's Italy, isn't it? Why is it leaning? Was it just built badly or was there an earthquake? Do you know why it's leaning?
Starting point is 00:39:59 No idea. So if we're doing a geography lesson and lost in translation geography, why does it lean? I bet it was a naft job. I bet it was made by someone who was tired. I think it's a movement of the earth. There you go.
Starting point is 00:40:09 It was built on soft, unstable ground. Yeah. It keeps moving every year a bit and a bit, you know? Well, that's quite dangerous, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. I think. It's not moving every year a little bit. Probably.
Starting point is 00:40:22 But they'll obviously make sure it's safe for tourists and stuff. I love that someone's fuming because there was no game consoles or bars in it. I bet that was... Another one? That was an English person, wasn't it? Next one says, I don't understand the hype.
Starting point is 00:40:34 It's just a clock. It's going to be digital in 30 years anyway. Big Ben? The Big Ben or Grand Central Station. It's Big Ben, yeah. Grand Central Station, the clock is not that important. It's more the station, I guess. I know, but I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:40:48 It's just a clock. I mean, you know, with the London landmarks, meos wants to do a day trip to London, don't she? because I've been in London and you so much for work whenever I go I don't see the beauty of the landmark I should really do what I would like to do in London
Starting point is 00:41:04 and I've never done it you know that speedboat down the Thames I'd like to do that Really? He plays James Bond music Why you're on his speedboat The next one I was disgusted to find
Starting point is 00:41:16 It was just some rocks They need to build an arcade Or a fun fair for the kids Stonehenge Is those rocks with their face No it's Stonehenge Stonehenge, yeah. Not just rocks.
Starting point is 00:41:28 There's like heritage behind Stonehenge, isn't it? Yeah, but for you, something spiritual with it, isn't it? Was aliens or who was there? That's what I'm saying. Do you know what I was reading the other day, and you'll laugh at this? You know, before you go in there? You know, Rose, you used to dance in our tour, yeah? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:43 She's very into, like, crystal scars and everything. Yeah. She went there for, it's like a sunrise or sunset thing. It's not the... Like a sand bath in can'tow. No, the summer solstice. Yeah. When the salmon solstice, they start.
Starting point is 00:41:54 with the stars and everything. She went there because they had this ceremony with sambas and everything and it's like aligning with the ground. She was telling her not about it. Yeah, I'd love to do that. She dragged the boyfriend because the boyfriend is now, just sure. So she was telling her, she dragged him into the sleep on a tent
Starting point is 00:42:09 and do all of that. And it was for the, they made his fires and then you have to be aligned and bear food in the ground. Yeah, because it's just a circular earth. Is it circular of earth or is flat? No, it's definitely circular. Circular, round. I have a theory, not just me, loads of people.
Starting point is 00:42:24 which people are laughed, but giants back in the day were real, like trolls and giants, right? There's some places, these deep caves and caverns, even now monumental places, they have doors like the size of a house, right, leading into caverns and caves. Who, what needs to fit? Why would they go through that effort to build a door that big for people? our size. First of all, you won't be able to push it. Stimmond. No. It's honestly, if you look into trolls and giants,
Starting point is 00:43:04 I could go on for ages about this. And there's rock formations that look like sleeping giants. And it's because they were part of it. Honestly, the buildings that they built for people, why would they need to build them? And perhaps they help build the pyramids. The power of AI. No, it's not.
Starting point is 00:43:28 I was reading it in a book. It's from a library book. Talking about building, let's finish with this one. It was really a great wall. If anything, it was just a wall. I had a wee on that with Olivia Newton-John. It's the Great Wall of China. Nice.
Starting point is 00:43:42 Well done. I've walked the Great Wall of China. You know, you can see it from space. You can probably because it was built not by Chinese people. It was built by what you call it? Giants. Giants or like... Trolls.
Starting point is 00:43:55 No, from the planet. Aliens. From the planet. Thank you so much for tuning in. Thank you for supporting the pod. We really, really appreciate it. For your lovely messages, please do send more.
