Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, it's me, Gemma. Gawker's not here yet. Obviously, the World Cup's in full swing. He's driving me mad. He watches every game. Even when it ain't Spain playing, he has to watch a game, and then the highlights in the morning.
Starting point is 00:00:10 So I'm going to try and talk to him. He sits down and he goes through his script. I'm going to flood him with questions about football and see how long he lasts before he realizes. Hello, you're okay. It's all right, yeah. I was just getting the iPad. I forgot it there.
Starting point is 00:00:26 All right. How are you? I'm good. I was just thinking, obviously, the game, why don't players and teams do the 4-4-2 anymore? Why don't, they don't play that anymore, 4-4-2? I don't know. In football?
Starting point is 00:00:41 Oh, I don't know. The exchange, football change. Do you think Kane's going to get the golden boot? No. Did you see the France game, though? They were quick down the wings, weren't they, France? Yeah. They were like straight down the wing.
Starting point is 00:00:53 Sorry, I cannot give it straight. Why, what's the matter? Fast down the winds. Yeah. Because, like, you have no idea about. You say, yeah, I do. I actually, Norway have got a great chance. They've got a good chance.
Starting point is 00:01:04 They surprise a lot of people Norway. And they do the, whoo! Woof! Yeah, you're just more interested in the Norway guys doing the road than the game, probably. Do you want my top 10 in the who's going to win, the World Cup, who I think? France, potentially. It's number one to win. Germania, Germany.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Yeah, number four. Brazil. Number three, I think of five. England. England. I mean, if it's to drink pines, you will win for sure. Portugal, Holland, Sweden, Spain. Norway.
Starting point is 00:01:37 Spain? Mexico. Scotland, the Scottish fans. Spain is number two. Uzbekistan and then Spain. And then Spain. Yeah, sure. I'm kidding.
Starting point is 00:01:51 I've just told the viewers I wanted to speak to you about football to confusion. I mean, after all those many years, just you know, I've been more about football, you know. The only thing you know about this is your World Cup is that handsome goalkeeper from South Africa or whatever that you and your friends keep me sending videos of that the other day you sent me a video of him and I was like... No, the one that stole my heart for all the lovely reasons
Starting point is 00:02:15 is the 40-year-old... The goalkeeper from Cape Verde. Cape Verde's goalkeeper, he's 40 years old. We did a link on him on the radio. He was saying because of visa issues he couldn't fly his mum over to watch him. he's grown up with his nana and granddad he's lived with his grandparents
Starting point is 00:02:32 they've passed away so they've not seen him he's got such a lovely story and he's 40 he went from 50,000 followers before the game to 8.5 million after the game and I just think and he's got such a kind face and I thought as if his mum's not been able to fly over and then you have the Spanish team against him
Starting point is 00:02:51 getting thousands of lots of millions in the bank paid and they didn't even score a goal Gorka bought three Spanish kits in Spain last weekend for 60 euros for the three of them, didn't you? I bet they fade after one wash. Probably because I don't know if they're real to be honest. Well, I don't think so for that price. It was nice.
Starting point is 00:03:08 And Tiago's is so long on him. He looks like, that scene in E.T. When they dress E.T. up as in the human clothes. It's like down to his shins. I didn't get one though. I would have won one with you all. No. You're not Spanish.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Yeah, but I'll show solidarity. Solidarity. You have Spanish in you, but you know Spanish. Let's start the episode. Vamos! Coming up. Proximaement, the thought that I wanted to pipe ruin your life.
Starting point is 00:03:38 I'm going to shit my pants or vomit any second now. That would be the situation that I will have to be thumping and softy. There's not a man called Jizz. I was naked, bent over the bath, going, Right. For in the morning, I'm going to wake up and I'm going to go with my laptop. Dush on you. It does see how it feels.

Starting point is 00:04:50 So come and say hello. Right, let's get back to it. Or as gorks would say, Let's In Translation is brought to you by Shell So whatever you're doing this summer Shell is your one-stop shop for summer snacks and refreshments So it is the World Cup It's in full swing
Starting point is 00:05:15 We have just come back from Espaniol Yeah You love to say Spanish, no? Spaniel Do you not say that, Spagna? We came from Spain, Spagna We came from Spain No, Spanish
Starting point is 00:05:25 You have a fun time going there It took you almost an hour to pass the security control I know we have to go through security separately now because I'm in Brexit we have to go in separate cues he flew through of course he did because it's his motherland I was in a queue for ages I had to do my fingerprints I had to say where I was staying could we afford to stay there when I was leaving felt like a criminal I have a video if you want to actually hurry of her walking on the you know the little things and me pass it good I'm recording her yeah but once so we got through all of that yeah but we had a lovely time it was just two nights yeah the two of us it was like
Starting point is 00:05:59 36 hours, isn't it? Yeah, but we did loads and loads of walking. We did some house hunting. We're hoping to get a holiday home. That's the aim. But we might put it on the back burner for a bit. We've realised it's going to take a lot more
Starting point is 00:06:10 I naively thought. It's the same as the UK. You go over, you buy it, stamp duty done. There's a lot of, there's a big process. Also, it's a different country, different rules, different things. But also, I think like with you sometimes, you go from zero to 100 very quick.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Like, you go to like, to like, let's get a house abroad, let's go. Like I was in New York and in three days that I was there, she booked flights, she organized viewing, she organized this, no idea what to go, I'm just find out that I'm going to Spain. And then she gets there, oh yeah, this one. And I was like, it's not that you're buying, like, I don't know, a microwave, you know? You buy in a house.
Starting point is 00:06:47 I know. So you just go very quick. And I'm like, no. And then you go like, Coca, do you want to get this house? And I'm like, yes. But you're the opposite. You're manana, manana. No, I'm not manana, manana.
Starting point is 00:06:56 And in the property market. You can't be like that. Yeah, I'm no manina manina, but I don't want to spend. all the amount of money, and then me like, oh, we shouldn't, like, I'd rather go multiple times to that place. Like I said to you, for example, when we were talking with you about the areas and everything, and I was like, maybe it's because I'm Spanish and I know the country and I know the area. Like, if I was, like, I told you the other day, if I was myself alone to buy a house
Starting point is 00:07:20 or even just I said to you, go for a weekend, that wouldn't be my first choice to go, you know what I mean? Yeah. But when I was there, it's not the area and everything, but in my head I wouldn't go first place there. That makes sense? Yeah. So, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:32 I think we should go multiple times. I think we should also next trip go with the kids. See what the kids like, how we find out with the kids and everything. Do you know? Not just because we went 36 hours and we have a lovely time together. We just go, oh, yeah, here. Because it's like forever.
Starting point is 00:07:47 It's the sensible one, you see, aren't you? You know what I mean? I know, it's not sensible. It's just that. No, it is. We're not spending 100 pounds. You know what I mean? No.
Starting point is 00:07:56 It's 100,000s. So. I know, but my brain goes to buy it now, and then in three years, you make 100,000s back. I'm going into investment mode with it, but I need to be more family, chill, holiday mode. If you're going to invest, just buy it for invest. That's different. But if you're going to buy it being like our holiday place for the next 10 years, for example, where, like, you have a lot.
Starting point is 00:08:23 I just love the lifestyle over there. Yeah, but you can have the lifestyle like that anywhere in Spain. You can go to my mom's house, do you mean, for the summer? Like I said, if you want to go to have a son and the beach and the kids have a safe place to play, go to my mom's house on the beach an hour from my city, not even an hour, like 50 minutes, and you save the money. And we see your mom and dad. There we go, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:08:44 And the beach, no offense, but the beach where my mom and dad had a house, for me, it's nicer than the ones down in the south. Yeah, and it has the waves for the surfing. Yes, so. And the good quality of the north of Spain. We had two nights child free, which obviously is on Peshire. The paper sounds incredible. Yes, sorry, interrupt you.
Starting point is 00:09:02 For those when they're going to go like, child number three, it's not coming. Don't worry. I just ring you their news, yeah? The second night was more... It was lovely. It was an exorcism for me, wasn't it? Oh, yeah, you got ill. I got ill.
Starting point is 00:09:15 Of course I did. Whenever I go away, but the reason I was ill, there's no fault other than... I think you did it on purpose, yeah? It's my own fault. Do you pretend it? No. Pretend it. You saw the projectile from it.
Starting point is 00:09:26 That's why it's not child number three, for example. I think she does it on purpose. though, you know? I was like, I'm getting rare, you know, shave that bush and everything for the night. He wanted a cheeky pipe and he got an exorcism. Yeah. It was literally my own fault. There's nothing I can say other than I was a greedy, indulgent pig. That's the only way for it. We went for a meal. Now, when we at home, you even said to me when I was ordering, you have no protein with this meal, Gemma. Normally at home, I prioritize my protein, my fibre, my fat.
Starting point is 00:09:56 I'm good. We actually made a rule apart, not a rule, a pact for the next home. Yeah, because I'm not doing that again. We went to an Italian. You got Faccacaca bread on arrival as part of the service. It was free. It was gorgeous, really thick Faccahia. I ordered a mushroom soup, creamy mushroom soup. It was delicious.
Starting point is 00:10:13 While we were waiting for that, he orders a cheesy garlic bread. I ate that. Cheezing garlic bread on top of Feccacaca. My meal I ordered was just the spaghetti, wasn't it? Massive big bowl of spaghetti. With olive oil, beautiful, garlic and chili. So it was amazing. but it was like having garlic cloths in your mouth
Starting point is 00:10:32 because I tried it. So I thought it might be the garlic, but it was beautiful. I think it was the fat. It was all carbs. What did I had? It was bare gluten. You had steak with potatoes and veg.
Starting point is 00:10:44 But I was like, nah, I'm in an Italian in Spain. The sun's out. Bring me the pasta. I ate the full thing to the point where my stomach, I was in pain. You know what else I thought it could have been? Because it could happen. We had a long day in the sand, yeah?
Starting point is 00:10:59 Very long day. Initially, that date, we left the hotel at like 8.30 in the morning for breakfast, but we said, oh, why we just don't walk through the walk, how is you call? The broad walk as far as we can, and then grab a coffee in the way, and then whenever we want, we grab a taxi and we had the breakfast place that we wanted to go. Let's do that. So from 8.30, we haven't stopped walking and going around, and we walk back in the hotel, as sick.
Starting point is 00:11:29 30pm. We even have to go in the sea on the way back because we're like, we are very hot. We're on like 27,000 steps when we got back. So come back, have a quick shower and we head to the Italian. The only table it was left. It was in the sun. High table or outside in the sun. And we sat there thinking, oh, it's going to go down. But the sun for the next 45 minutes was literally in our sight. And I think maybe you have like a part of that as well. The sun on your head, all that food mixed together. The thought that I wanted to pipe, ruin your life. I walked back to the hotel because it's good for your digestion, isn't it, walking?
Starting point is 00:12:06 So I said to me, my stomach's wrecking. This is after I'd eaten the whole thing. I felt like that kid off Matilda, who eats a chocolate cake. It goes back to the hotel, and my stomach is gradually getting worse and worse. And on the walk back, go, because I can't wait to be back, you know. It's nice. You have a balcony and all this. And I'm thinking, I'm going to shit my pants or vomit.
Starting point is 00:12:25 any second now. We had this beautiful like self-standing bath. I was thinking, you know, we can have a bath. The bath wasn't used? It was mirrored, wasn't it? Yes. Mirrored bath. Beautiful.
Starting point is 00:12:37 Imagine my imagination going ahead. And all men who will see that bathroom, you will have the same imagination. Yeah. But we got back and I said to him, I said, my stomach's really hurting me. I felt like it was going to rip. And he was like, what you mean? And I said, I feel like if you were to press here, I'd be sick. I said, genuinely, I need to try and sleep this off.
Starting point is 00:12:53 I said, I don't feel good. I started panicking. then that it was neurovirus, which I can't bear. It makes me really upset being sick. Touch what I never get that again. It was awful. And then it just got worse and worse to the point where I had to run. But the nearest point was the bath instead of the bathroom,
Starting point is 00:13:12 because the bath was like a freestanding in our room. I had to run and I project vomiting. In the bath, no bleach for the back splash, because we're in a hotel room. I was naked, bent over the bath, going, basically, nothing that I was dreaming of was that situation. It was like I was turning into a werewolf. I was wretching that bad. It was awful.
Starting point is 00:13:36 I got back in bed and I said to him, oh my God, that was awful. And it's that thing where you feel fine for about 10 minutes, then it slowly comes over you again, and I had to go back five times. I had to go back. I learned very quick. That would be the situation that I would have to be thumbing a softie.
Starting point is 00:13:53 That was a good one, eh? Yeah, it was awful. And in the end, you fell asleep. You were like, I'm done. And I just kept having to go back to the bath and the toilet. And then eventually when it was all up, the relief on my stomach, I said, okay. Oh, it's amazing, isn't it? But you know what?
Starting point is 00:14:13 Imagine that situation was of that, was that day that I was on a day off on the tour. On the two weeks ago. I got that on tour. I got like a neurovirus or a food poisoning. But my one... He pooed as well, though. It was both ways.
Starting point is 00:14:26 So I felt sick and I thought I was going to vomit. But then it was like from the bottom. So I sat in the toilet and it was like you open a tap. But then the smell of that, he went up. So made me behave and I have to vomit. And when I have to vomit, I'm not going to vomit there because I'm going to pass away. So I had the bath next to me. So I lean over.
Starting point is 00:14:46 But when I lean over, I didn't want to vomit on the floor. So I had to really lean over. But at the same time that I was vomiting... You were pooing. made me contract my stomach. So the contraction, because it was so loose back there, it went at the same time, honestly.
Starting point is 00:15:01 And imagine after, when you've been sick and you feel sick, having to clean everything. The only thing worse than being ill is being ill abroad or ill, not in your own home. You want your own bed, you want to be able to clean, you want fresh water. I couldn't even have the tap water. You were just like, and then you had to do a show the next day.
Starting point is 00:15:21 Yeah, it was horrible. Anyway, it was a horrible. a shitty situation. We survived though, yeah. Shitty situation. But it was lovely there. It wouldn't be a trip away for us without one of us shitting or puking. But apart from that, it was a lovely. We got to walk, we saw the little square and everything in the little market. We reconnected as me and you, not just mum and dad again.
Starting point is 00:15:40 He only took seven years. Seven years. I mean, I plan sometimes things like that, but you just go after, no, no without the kids. I did miss the kids, though, did you? Yeah, of course I did. You miss them, but it's also good for us, you know? Because you know you forget who you are also as a couple. Yeah. You know.
Starting point is 00:15:56 If you do want to get in touch, by the way, we should have done this at the start, but we've raffled on. If you want to get in touch throughout the podcast, which many of you do, you can email us. It's lost in translation at bowermedia.com. You can send us a WhatsApp. You can voice notice. It's O'dable 7-6103-989898 or follow us across all social media. It's lost. In-dot podcast.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Now, moving on. Moving on. Because we are doing the catcher. But anything that bothers you this week that I've done, probably. It wouldn't be a week if I didn't bother you with something. No. I know what's bothered you because, well, I think I do. Something you said, I'm going to say, I'm going to, that's my podcast this week.
Starting point is 00:16:36 What was it that happened? Did I, something that they bought nothing? You know, he makes notes, Henry. Anything I do, he makes producer Henry's here, by the way. Say hi. Hi. Hi. Henri Kay.
Starting point is 00:16:45 He makes notes on his phone whenever I annoy him. No, because so many things that could happen during the week, then you have to write. things, you know. It's like videos sometimes when we were away this weekend. You're like, why are you filming all of this? I'm like filming because for contests, like we're talking about the podcast, like the thing that you were laid with the passport, the security.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Putting a video, it makes even more interesting because you get to see, isn't Henry? I mean, believe me, Gemma, I'm grateful for it. You see? I mean, I know what yours is now. No, I have few. But he's one of them with the shoes on the bed when I asked you to get your shoes off the bed. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so But, yeah, but you know because you know you're going to be wrong.
Starting point is 00:17:24 No? Yes, you are. I don't think they are. All right, well, let's do that. You have anything to say? I don't really have any this week because you did it yesterday. His suitcase from New York was still out. So how long have you been back from?
Starting point is 00:17:38 It wasn't really annoying me. I was last Monday here. Yeah, it was just, it was 10 days. And he wasn't in the middle. It was out. Yeah, it was in where we keep our shoes. So, no, not really. I think because we've had that lovely weekend.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Yeah. Yeah, we came back and it's been nice from my part anyway. But if you've got a list, you knock yourself out. I mean, I brought you a coffee now, for example. Set off earlier to get you a coffee. What's yours for me? Well, my one is, and I think the listeners will agree with me, of your nonsense upsetting of this situation.
Starting point is 00:18:14 So we were packing to go to Spain, yeah? have in mind, when you got a trolley, the trolley, the wheels go everywhere. And the trolley has been thrown everywhere on the planes, yeah? So I brought the small luggage. My one was on the floor open, packing. She puts her luggage on top of the bed with the wheels. Situation number one, yeah? Then I finished packing and I have my sliders that I only wear a home or outside the house
Starting point is 00:18:45 in our house, like the garden, walking to the gym, or in the front. on to the drive, for example. I went in the bed upstairs, lie down with my feet like this, and imagine this is the sliders, they were like this, yeah? On the bed. Yeah. She went to be like,
Starting point is 00:19:00 get off your feet out of the bed. You never know where you walk with those shoes. And I was like, excuse me. One, the luggage is in the bed. And I said, you said that to me, but you don't say that to Benji. And I was like, but I was Benji and I was like, you wash him when he's raining outside.
Starting point is 00:19:16 But Benji goes to the garden, goes in the plant pods, goes on the drive, goes for a walk, and you don't tell him anything when he rolls on the bed and sleep. It's not the same as Benji. So you're telling me, they're doing this, yeah? It was just the shoes on the bed that got me. In my bed, it's fine.
Starting point is 00:19:34 But the wheels of the luggage... The wheels didn't touch it. But the whole luggage has been thrown. I put it on its side and opened it that way. But I always wipe clean our luggage when we come back from holiday. I'm always with a wet wipe with any luggage. Anyway, and Benji...
Starting point is 00:19:48 Benji, which is a lovely fair, soft hair, walks everywhere between the trees and everything, and gets everything. I even on holiday... That's one. And the next one I leave you for next week. I even on holiday. Do you remember when we had food and I sat with the bag on my knee?
Starting point is 00:20:05 And you said to me, why don't you put it on the floor? I said, I'm not putting it on the floor because the first thing we do when we come home is put the bag on the worktop. So that's why I sat with it on my knee. Anything like that, I don't like. Shoes in the house. I don't like. We have sliders by the front door.
Starting point is 00:20:20 You take your shoes off and put sliders on. That's what I was wearing my sliders. But you also go out and about in them as well. No. But it was just, he was just sat with his feet up on the bed. Just, I was like this. And I didn't shout.
Starting point is 00:20:33 I just said, hey, get your feet off the bed. Yes. Get your shoes off the bed. How about Benji? I was Benji's paws. No, you don't. No, you don't. If they're dirty, I do.
Starting point is 00:20:42 You watch them when he's raining outside and he goes in the man and get muddy. But for example, today, I'll walk him today came home he was running in the grass and everything and you didn't wash him
Starting point is 00:20:53 and I bet my money when you went upstairs to go shower he ran and jump on the bed Yeah but I've stripped the bed haven't I Yeah but tonight he will do the same thing
Starting point is 00:21:01 Gawker got up at half five and a huff this morning because he said I twatted him in the face with Benji twice Yes That was my other moaning about it
Starting point is 00:21:10 Like imagine Yeah Don't get me wrong I love Again let me know If I'm being too like dramatic but I'm in bed it's 5.15 in the morning yeah for whatever reason Benji went up on her side it does every morning and I five in the morning she decides to grab him and roll him into the
Starting point is 00:21:30 middle of the bed without no conscious of who is next to her yeah so I'm like sleeping so this is the bed I suddenly sleeping facing that way I was facing her like so peacefully like that so benj you rolls in and it's 18 kilos yeah he's a big dog yeah so it's a big dog yeah so it's 10 kilos rolls it and she doesn't, she just goes, dush. And the dog goes, douche in my face. And I go, Benji, and she was like, oh, stop moaning. Stop moaning. At 5.30 in the morning, you decide to roll the dog on the bed and smack him in the face.
Starting point is 00:22:03 So Benji has this thing and it's, he does it every morning. He's done it every morning since we've had him, which I just love. He puts his paws next to my side of the bed. He does it in the night and then in the morning. And I have to tuck his chin. like took his forehead under my chin, put my hand under his bottom, and I roll him and do this so that he snug into me. He literally snug into my neck.
Starting point is 00:22:27 And I stroke him like this and fall asleep. But this morning, because I was tired, we did the roll, but because I'd done my arm, I'd had that big arm session. Nice. I was like, oh, so I flopped him a bit and he hit Gorka. Yeah. And after about three minutes, Gorka got up, but he wanted to make it known.
Starting point is 00:22:45 That was the reasoning. No, I told you. Yes, I told you. Huffing and puffing. Yeah, I said like, and you go like, oh, stop moaning. And then she goes like, oh, you don't love him. And I was like, I always say that to me, you don't even love Benji. I love Benji, but doesn't mean I have to accept that five in the morning, wake me up because it smug me in the face.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Well, let us know what you think about today's, today's debate. I'd love to hear if any other people have this situation with dogs on the bed. I mean, for me, it's the best thing ever. I love it. with my laptop because you don't like the laptop
Starting point is 00:23:18 open I'll break it yeah so next time I'll run at around 4 in the morning I'm gonna wake up
Starting point is 00:23:22 and I'm gonna go with my laptop dush on you see how it feels does make you realise though didn't it at one point
Starting point is 00:23:29 we had Norman and Dolly sometimes on the bed at night how much I used to moan yeah I mean the fact that he was us
Starting point is 00:23:35 to a working cocker and a spruodle all on the bed yeah and so you should be grateful
Starting point is 00:23:41 now it's just the one no I'm grateful but again I'm grateful for him to sleep next to us at the bottom of the bed.
Starting point is 00:23:47 Oh, he's always on us. I don't mind it when he's at the bottom of the bed. Do you mean? After that, I go, ooh, Benji. And then he comes in and I went to try to do the side. I was like, I'm going to try and roll to the side and sleep. If he moves up. No, he comes up and licks my ear, licks my hand.
Starting point is 00:24:03 And I'm like, Benji, stop. But how lucky I wait to have that little soul be so happy that you're awake. I love him, but at 7 a.m. is fine. What do you think lost in translation at bowermedia.com. 0-7-610-3-9-898 on the WhatsApp, or you can follow us, lost.com, podcast. Well, speaking of getting in touch, as always, the lovely listeners have sent some nice messages. Lauren said, this is the first time I've messaged a podcast or celebrity. Oh, I hate that word celebrity.
Starting point is 00:24:34 I know. I always say it's someone who works in the public eye. Yes, we know celebrities. Thank you for your message, Lauren. She says, I don't have a question or dilemma. I just wanted to say, I love you guys. I've always loved Gemma since Holly Oaks Day is one of my first. favourite parts of the show is when Gemma talks like Gorka.
Starting point is 00:24:49 Thank you for your light, enjoyable, listenable podcast. Oh, thank you, Lauren. Say, thank you for me. Thank you, Lauren. Yeah. Yeah. Then we have one from Tish M from Hertfordshire. That's that correct?
Starting point is 00:25:01 Hartfordshire. Will you ever go back to acting in sobs or in general? I did really like Carly Hope in Emmerdale. Carly Hope was good to play because she was very feisty. I would, Tish. I wouldn't be able to do a soap again. Holly Oaks kindly asked me back a few times and I love Holly Oaks, forever grateful for Holly Oaks.
Starting point is 00:25:21 That's because of that soap is where I am now. But when I did Emmerdale, for example, I shared a changing room with Lucy, Lucy Parcheter, who had two twins, or she's got twins. And at the time, they were like Tiago's age. I genuinely do not know how she did it. Because the thing with soaps, I love them, and it was brilliant,
Starting point is 00:25:43 but you have to be on call 24-7 in terms of unless you specifically book time off, you could have a random Thursday off in the schedule. And then they're changed the scenes. But then they'll ring and say, we're planning to do exterior scenes. It's chucking it down. We've changed it. We're interior now. You're in.
Starting point is 00:26:03 So we have to have in my contract with Holly Oaks, with Emma Dale, with casualty, you have to be within an hour of the studio all the time unless you'd book time off. Like I once, I had a random day off at Oli Oaks, I went to London. Producer Rung me.
Starting point is 00:26:18 She's like, we've changed your schedule. Can you be in for three? And I went, well, I'm at Houston Station, so probably not. And they were like,
Starting point is 00:26:27 well, you have to. Yeah, to breach of contract. You need to come back now. So with kids and juggling that, it would be too stressful
Starting point is 00:26:34 and I wouldn't want to. However, if it was like a one-off drama whereby they said, you start the 10th of May, you finish the 12th of June, 100% because there's a start and end and I would love it
Starting point is 00:26:45 I would love you to do it because I would like you know what I always say this to you I love you know how for example me and Tiago have seen me on it strictly and especially me and I
Starting point is 00:26:54 this is almost seven she was conscious of like oh I was doing that I would love for the obviously they can watch you when you were like years ago but I would love for them to see you doing what you used to do
Starting point is 00:27:06 I think it would be such like a nice thing for them to see you know I mean well it's frustrating isn't it as well because lots things have come up. Do you remember there were one in Ireland the other year? But it was, you know, I was asked to do a job, but it was when strictly was on. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:20 And obviously you, you couldn't get out of that. So one of us had to always be with the kids. Yeah. So a lot of the times I have to say thank you, but it's not possible. But, yeah, I would. I would like to. I think I can see, you know, one of those, like, Netflix dramas
Starting point is 00:27:36 doing like a serial killer or like, you know, like a... I'm a serial killer. No, no, like a serial killer. Like one of those, you know like the mayor, the one of, what's her name? I'd be a police officer. What is the, oh, what's her name? From Titanic. Kate Winsler?
Starting point is 00:27:51 Yeah, she did one. It was like a police. Oh, mayor of Easton. Yeah, something like that. Yeah, something like that. Yeah, something like that. You know what I mean? Something like that.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Like a crime, drama, intense. You never know. Watch the space. But thank you, Tish. And Claire from Scotland, the Tartan Army. Come on, Claire. She says, a wee message for Gawker and Gemma, I absolutely love your podcast.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Thank you. I came across it one day and instantly fell in love with it. Your banter and passion is amazing. I have listened to many podcasts in my time and there's none that comes close to yours. What you speak about is so real and honest. Please keep going. I've had a really bad year with sadly losing my dad in January.
Starting point is 00:28:31 Oh, bless you. I always listen to your podcast when I'm on my own as I struggle the worst and I've no one with me. So thank you. Oh, Claire. Thank you very much. you lots of love to you. God bless you, Claire. Don't worry. My dad'll look after him for you. I'll say, I'll have a word of my dad to welcome your dad. Thank you for listening.
Starting point is 00:28:49 And our final message this week is from Mark, who is also got a dilemma to answer, Gemma. Thanks to Shell for partnering with the show. They have got everything you need for the summer. We're approaching summer which I can't wait for. It means getting outside and enjoying the sun as much as possible. There is so much to look forward to. What are you more excited for, Jemma? You love a barbecue, don't you? I love it, yeah. You go insane on the barbecue. Even when it's not really, really hot and sunny,
Starting point is 00:29:21 you will still stand and cook on the barbecue. When it's sunny and a bit warm, I love a barbecue. Everything, like the chicken breast tastes better, a nice steak on the barbecue, even just like the vegetable balls, like the mushrooms, you know, that everything tastes better on a barbecue.
Starting point is 00:29:34 You get the paddling pool out. Yes, nice salad. It's just a fun time, isn't it? I know. It's not long until summer arrives, you know? And you can get your full barbecue bits from Shell. which you can buy everything. You can even get the coal for your barbecue from there as well.
Starting point is 00:29:49 I know, and you know what's my favorite thing from there? What? It's the port belly bites on the grill. And a nice salt and pepper chicken. Oh, gosh, you're making everyone on that. Ice cream after, you know, you can get everything. Plus, when you're a Shell Go Plus Rewards member, you get 100 bonus points when you buy two soft drinks,
Starting point is 00:30:06 so you guys really should download the app and give it a go now. Sign up now while you can. I'm just glad I'm back to filling my own car using my own points so you can't use them. Yeah, that's the downside of you being home. Anyway, thanks to Cheryl for sponsoring the show. Let's get back to the episode. So every week we solve one of your dilemmas.
Starting point is 00:30:29 So if you do have one for us, lost in translation at bowermedia.com.com. Or just send Henry forward slash Enrique a WhatsApp voice note or message on 0276103-98989. And he will get back to you. This is from Mark. It says, hi, Gemeren Gorka. I'm really messaging to get advice off Gorka.
Starting point is 00:30:50 Oh. I'm a good advice, though. Because I feel we're very similar in this way, but I'll be interested to hear your thoughts as well, Jim. I'm a clean freak. I always have been, I always will be. Even as a child, I used to hate having my mates in my bedroom because I knew it would be messy afterwards.
Starting point is 00:31:04 Now, 25 years later, I'm finding kids and making my house messy again, but this time they're my own children, not my friends. My wife likes things to be tidy, but isn't as desperate as me for a clean house who is happy to support with a mess, especially if it means the kids have fun. Sounds familiar.
Starting point is 00:31:18 Gorka, do you have any rules in place to make sure your house is tidy? You don't have no rules, trust me. Or can you give me advice on how to deal with it? Well, I don't have rules when Gemma is around. Ah, rules are meant to be broken. Because if I say something, she was like, oh, just leave it. They are just playing. But, for example, many times she will come to the house and work in the afternoon.
Starting point is 00:31:40 So when I'm at home, I do the pick-up, dinner time, bath time, and then Gemma comes home. and she does bedtime with together or she does put both to bed or we swap. So obviously when we come home, they have dinner and they play and everything. And I tidy up everything, like all the things from dinner or whatever. But when it comes to the playroom,
Starting point is 00:32:02 they can play. I always sell them. Like before very tidy, like last night, Tiago, when you walk Benji, he was on the scooter and he had the trucks and three or four tracks in the middle of the playroom. So I said,
Starting point is 00:32:15 come on Tiago, it's bedtime and he was like okay and I was like before bedtime pick up your things so I tell him always sometimes I'm like tidy up no and I say well if you don't tidy up they go in the bin it's your toys so they were like oh no no I tidy up
Starting point is 00:32:28 so kind of like I always go if you mess up you tidy up is your own mess like it's not our job tidy up your toys they can make the I mean I always think there's a difference yeah with being unclean and messy because they are playing yeah toys everywhere might
Starting point is 00:32:45 one of them. With kids, you'll have to get used to it. Do you know what I mean? Also because of the dog, for example, Ben, you can get little things
Starting point is 00:32:52 and, like, chew them and everything. It's not safe for the dog also. So they also, I feel like, because then when they go, for example, like to nursery,
Starting point is 00:32:59 like the other day they chose a Tiago, it was very good at tidying up. So it's the same thing. I think if they grew up, like, you can play, it makes everything out,
Starting point is 00:33:07 but then when you finish it's any time to live, leaving how it was, because then the next day, you can tidy up, yeah. But we're like that, Like Mia, the first thing she does in the morning, she makes a bed.
Starting point is 00:33:16 Yeah. So we're kind of like, make as much mess as you want, have fun during the day. I mean, we're talking, drawing on the walls and stuff like that, absolutely not. Yeah. There's no, no chance. But leaving toys out at a weekend, it's fine, but Sunday night, they all go, everything. And they are both very good with that. And like Gorka said, when we picked Tiago up from nursery, it was after we landed from Spain,
Starting point is 00:33:39 I was off work that day. So we both got to pick him up. she said to us he's very good at tidying up and it's because we've drilled it into them make your mess but you have to tidy it up but I think it's well Mark I think it's a nice safe
Starting point is 00:33:54 space when kids can be in their own mess and toys nothing for me is more not sad that's not the right word but when you see someone's house and they have kids but there's no colour and there's no toys
Starting point is 00:34:07 it's just beige and it doesn't look lived in and messy I always think, oh, because you know what I mean? It's, you want a, they say a messy house is a happy house sometimes. Yeah, but that's also, for example, sometimes, like, you go to a playroom and the playroom is upside down. It's like it's been like a tsunami. Like, especially Tiago, he loves to put all the drawers and throws him out and then he puts them
Starting point is 00:34:30 back. But sometimes he gets distracted and he doesn't pull them back. He just leaves them in there. But even, like, for example, when we do, like, dinner time, like, I make dinner for them and they have their food and every, each one of them have their players. the water bottle and they're having dinner in the table, you know, it gets messy with Tiago, but when they were like, I'm
Starting point is 00:34:47 done, especially like, I take him out of the chair, but he knows or Mia knows, they get their plate and their glass and everything. They bring it to the sink and they were like, I'm finished and if you tell them, okay, put this on the bin, he knows how to put it on the bin. You open it for him and he puts them on the bin. So then
Starting point is 00:35:04 he gets the habit of like, you know, it's no, I'm finished by, I'm going to go and play. Yeah, leave your plate. What you could do Mark is kind of like what we've done. With the point in the stuff also. Yeah, make the mess. But I mean, we tidying up, we used to with Mia, do you remember we used to set like a three minute alarm clock,
Starting point is 00:35:20 like a three minute timer. And we'll go like, right, we've got three minutes. And once the alarm stops, we have to have tidied up. And she'd be like, go! And she does it really, really quick. Like a game, yeah. Yeah. And you turn the tidy time into like a game.
Starting point is 00:35:33 But allow them to make the mess if they tidy up after. And the one time they don't tidy up, and then that's it. you don't make a mess anymore. But I think for your own sanity and relaxing, you need to kind of level it out with the wife and kids a little bit and be like, okay, I don't like the mess, but I'm willing to compromise
Starting point is 00:35:52 if at the end of the day the mess has gone. Because there's nothing worse, I cannot stand waking up to a messy kitchen. Like if we have people around, even Christmas Day, we had like 16 people Christmas Day. When they left, we tidied everything up. Everything was done before bed. There was not a trace
Starting point is 00:36:10 of food or pots or pans, anything. So we came down boxing day to a clean kitchen. I also use the hoover as a sign to like, come and get out of the house, you know? When it's like being a few, you know, like you have dinner and then it's like three hours. You're like, it's enough time. You will hoover when guests are here. I'll start to like hoover so they know, okay, I want to go to bed. Just move out and want to tidy up.
Starting point is 00:36:27 Yeah. Yeah. It is. It's a nice space when it's tidy, but it's also nice that it's lifting. That's why I love to go somewhere else's house because I am, I know when I want to live. So then I know I can live. When it's in your house. you feel guilty of telling people to leave, for example.
Starting point is 00:36:42 But going back to the kids, for example, me, I used to be, like, if me and Tiago were playing in the living room or in the playroom, I used to be, like, going behind them. Every time that they finished playing, you know, she was playing, and then we were telling her, picking it up. Picking it up. So I used to pick at the same toys 75 times. And I said, just leave it.
Starting point is 00:37:01 So then I just go to myself of, like, go through the point of, like, you know what? Six hours. At the end of the six hours, I'll pick it up. and it's fine. Instead of going, like, every five minutes, picking, like, I was literally getting my 20,000 steps, just bending forward and picking up toys. And you just make a job for yourself,
Starting point is 00:37:20 you make stress for yourself, and at the end of the day, it's just kids playing. So I used to say to you, it's the playroom, leave it. And if it's your partner who leaves the mess, I just put it on the bin. Yeah, he does. Her socks, especially. But they are good at tidying up.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Yeah, they're very good. They are, like, very good, like, tidy children, to be honest. And even, like, when they've had the first, I think me, Tiago, he hates having dirty hands, don't he? If he's had a meal and he's got, like, pasta sauce on him, he comes up, she and goes, oof. Yeah. So he's already got that clean book for you.
Starting point is 00:37:49 You know what it's funny? The other day, we're having a bath. They're both two of them, yeah? And they finished the bath and I take, Mia came out first. And then he's like, no, I want to stay. So he stays. And then when you take the lead and everybody goes like, no, tie me up, tie me up. And he starts to get the clothes, squads,
Starting point is 00:38:05 the clothes, put them perfect, all the toys. And I was like, come on, Tiago. No, no, no, no. I need to tie me. up. Yeah. It's so cute. You make it a game for them.
Starting point is 00:38:12 Yeah. It's fun. But Mia, she does a bed in the mornings. Because I think that's something, I mean, they don't teach you that at school. So that is one, I mean, it's not like a rule in the house, but it's something we've, I mean, I had it drilled into me. Me too. Even just taking your shoes off when you're going to someone's house. With the clothes, for example, me, I grew up, like, my mom used to, like, I don't the clothes,
Starting point is 00:38:33 what's the clothes or fold them and everything. But then, if I used to come, like, a lunch break from school before go back in the afternoon. I used to get on the house and I had a pile of clothes in my bed My mom, like, was for all the clothes But leave my clothes, my dad and my brothers It's one of us in our bed And it was our responsibility
Starting point is 00:38:52 Put them away, like everything away On the where you go Did you ever have a phrase in Spanish for like If you Maybe not because the house layout for yours was different Yours was an apartment But we used to have a saying in the in England Maybe I'm probably just up north
Starting point is 00:39:09 I don't know. If I left a door open in the house, it used to drive my dad mad. So when, in my house I grew up in, you'd walk in the front door and straight facing you was the stairs and on the right was a door into the living room. So whenever that door was open,
Starting point is 00:39:25 you'd have a draft sometimes from under the front door. And he used to sit on his chair and if I walked through and left the door open, he used to go, hey, are you born in a barn? He used to sit. And I used to turn out and go, oh, sorry. and I'd have to shut the door and he used to hate the door being left open
Starting point is 00:39:41 because of the draft and then another thing he always used to say which again I think is Northern I don't know, could be wrong if I am wrong, correct me if I left my bedroom light on or the landing light he used to go upstairs and he'd shut down
Starting point is 00:39:54 do you think this is bloody blackpool illuminations and he used to make me come upstairs and turn and I'd say can you just switch it and he'd say no you've got legs so same thing is you know how I'm always behind you switching the lights yeah I still do it now don't know It's because I switch the lights all the time. And I always go, why you have the lights on?
Starting point is 00:40:11 I'm always going behind. That's from my dad. I used to do that. And if you used to, I'm from, is the company, the controls of the lights. Like you pay for the light. You know, like British water, for example. Yeah, like British gas or something. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:28 So it's Iverdroller. So when we used to, for example, I don't know, come to the house, you put the landing lights on. Then you go to the bathroom, to wash your hands when you get home. put the light on, lift it on go to your room, draw your backpack, whatever, leave the light on, and then you go to have lunch. So my dad used to go like,
Starting point is 00:40:44 you work for Iberdola or what? Meaning like, you work for the light company to lift the lights on. All dads hate big lights being on, don't they? What's that about? So he used to go like,
Starting point is 00:40:53 Travahas for Iverdola? Yeah, that's the same, yeah. It's funny, isn't it? How they don't like... What is you to say? We're at the age now where a draft from Adora annoys us. That's the stage I'm at.
Starting point is 00:41:04 I know the one is like, You know when you walk very fast. So let's say we are on a group, yeah, and you're walking like on a rush, and you go too far and leave everybody behind. My dad used to walk. Passapagra of Nintendo. Are you going to switch off a fire?
Starting point is 00:41:18 I mean like a firefighter, you know? Yeah. Yeah. Your dad hates long walks, though, didn't he? Yeah. He came to visit ours, and there's like a hill, famous hill, it's Peel Tower, it's called.
Starting point is 00:41:29 And I said to go, because she would take him up, Peel Tower, and his mum was up for it. I showed him, he pointed it to his dad, and he just went, no. No He didn't want to go up
Starting point is 00:41:37 He said it would be too cold No, but he walked a lot when he was young Because his job was like Very like walking everywhere So he's like, I'm not walking, hard enough Then he goes on my hip My hip My hip
Starting point is 00:41:47 But thank you for your dilemma Mark Hopefully we've helped Help solve it Let us know how you get on And if anyone wants to send a dilemma For next week It's O'dable 7 6103998989898
Starting point is 00:41:59 Or lost in translation Atowermedia.com Or lost dot in dot podcast Hey Is the WorldC So should play a game in base of the World Cup? Let's do it. Our sponsor today is Whoop
Starting point is 00:42:17 and I honestly wish I had my Whoop when Mia was tiny and I was running on about three hours sleep wondering why I felt like absolute rubbish. And I still feel like rabbi sometimes but at least now we know why. Whoop tell us what our bodies are really doing. Right? And instead of going I'm tired, I don't know why, maybe it's the weather.
Starting point is 00:42:36 It's like having a little coach, a little PT that actually stays on your body. Your arm. Actually, my recovery's been 25% actually, so it's told me not to go into a massive workout. I need to rest. For me, it's about understanding when I can push in training versus when my body needs rest. Because with dance, tour, the kids, with everything, you think you should always be going full speed. But you can't, that's the thing. And whoop helps you make smarter decisions with your training. Instead of just guessing it. Like, should I have that extra coffee and get an early night? Listen to your whoop.
Starting point is 00:43:07 It tracks your sleep, strain and recover. recovery, all the things that busy parents never have time to think about it. But probably we should. Exactly. It's like finally understanding your own energy instead of just hoping for the best and wondering why you're knackered by Tuesday. If you want to stop guessing and start understanding what your body actually needs, go to whoop.com. So as it's the World Cup, our producers have given us a list of footballers with interesting names.
Starting point is 00:43:41 And we've got to guess whether they're real players or maybe. read up. Rod Fanny. Rod Fanny? I think it's not real. Rod Fanny. Where would Fanny be from? Fanny?
Starting point is 00:43:57 What country? Fanny, could be like Italian, but I don't think it's Ronnie. I think it's more like Rod, like Rod Fanny. Yeah, or like a stick me rod up. Yeah, Rod Fanny. We're going to go false, Henry. He's real. Really?
Starting point is 00:44:13 He's a Frenchman who plays. played in Canada. Oh, no idea. Oh, French-Canadian Rolfani. Kickabol. That's got to be false. Yeah, he's not.
Starting point is 00:44:21 Yeah, I made that out. Yeah. That's false. Danny Invincible. Daninvinceble, that's false too. Danny Invincible. Invincibly.
Starting point is 00:44:32 Invincibly. Italian. I think that could be true because it's the name Danny. No, it's not true. He's real. Yeah, I think he is. He's an Australian
Starting point is 00:44:41 who played for Swindon. Really? I was going to say the name Danny, before Danny Invincible, Invincible sounds... We should have... There are no, these people is not making it to the World Cup, no?
Starting point is 00:44:52 This can't be real. Jizz Horn Camp. That's not real. That's not real. He's Dutch. He's not... There's not a man called Jiz. That's got to be his nickname.
Starting point is 00:45:06 Not real. Jiz Horn Camp. A lot of vagina. A lot of vagina. A lot of vagina. Yeah. That's got to be false. That's what I thought I was going to have when I went to Spain.
Starting point is 00:45:18 I didn't. It's made of it. It's actually a character from Austin Powers that one. Is it? Oh, of course, yeah. I'm not a fan of Austin Powers, you know? Jacob Wanker. There is a Jacob in the world.
Starting point is 00:45:30 There is a Wonka, but I don't think it's a real. I think that's real. Yes, he's an Austrian football. Yeah, Jacob Wanker. Oh, he last looks like a Wonka. Oh, look. I'm joking. I'm joking.
Starting point is 00:45:46 Danny Shih Tzu, he is real. Danny Shittu. Is he? Yeah. Okay. How do you know that? Are you into your footballers, eh? No, I know he's real because there was him.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Oh yeah, it is. Look. One of them's got a surname called Manek. Because I saw a meme and the guy who's called My Neck, he said it on the back of his shirt and he was stood like that. And someone. just put a picture of him like that and on the back it said my neck and then there was also is it some at drink water yeah danny drink water there was a picture of him just drinking water and it
Starting point is 00:46:24 says on the back of his t-shirt drink water dick long dick long richard long dick long is not true dick long i don't know can be someone called dick long it could be richard long dick long let's go false then it is false yeah yeah thank goodness dick long burnt hearse burnt house
Starting point is 00:46:52 he sounds like it could be like from Dutch or like Swedish or something like that I think he's from the Netherlands he's real he played for Sunderland and he's from Austria
Starting point is 00:47:06 Austria yeah yeah yeah people in Spain So my producer Matt from the radio has said this to me before and our Uber driver in Spain thought Gorka looked like Eden Hazard. Should we put Eden Hazard
Starting point is 00:47:20 on the screen? Yeah, so this is her. And see if you look. Oh my gosh, you do look like each other. A lot of people say that I look like a grumpy version of him. He was like... Was you a good player? Do you play for Chelsea? He was like messy. You know, like messy that's like talented. He didn't have to train. He was just like God's given talent.
