Starting point is 00:00:00 Faith doesn't always look like prayer or certainty. Sometimes it looks like restraint, discipline, and showing up when it would be easier to shut down. That's one thing that stayed with me after my conversation with Adam. This week on People Process Progress, I sat down with Adam, who's a police officer, Jiu-Jitsu black belt, gym owner, and are a leader who carries real responsibility. We talked about trauma, loss, and the weight that comes with service. But beneath all of it was a quieter threat, right? Faith lived out of through action, not words.
Starting point is 00:00:35 This episode isn't about theology. It's about how faith shows up in real life. Faith shows up in choices, not words. Right? Adam had every reason to harden, every reason to shut down or check out. Instead, he chose structure over chaos, service over bitterness, discipline over avoidance. That's faith in action, not something you say, something you live. Let's connect this to a Psalm.
Starting point is 00:01:01 I go to those Psalms often. The writing and the word and the strength of them is just good. And it's a realistic view of faith, I think. And it's Psalm 3419 says, many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. And that verse doesn't promise an easy life. It acknowledges struggle as part of the path.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Right? Deliverance doesn't always look like rescue. Sometimes it looks like resilient. Sometimes it looks like doing the work one day at a time. So practically, when I look back in my conversation with Adam, I think it showed up through his actions, right, training instead of numbing, accountability instead of isolation, leadership through example, not authority, building a gym that gives people structure, safety, and belonging, none of that requires perfect belief, requires commitment, right?
Starting point is 00:01:51 And I've seen this pattern of emergency services and healthcare and leadership roles. The people who last don't rely on motivation, right? They rely on routines. There have been seasons in my own life where faith wasn't emotional, right? It wasn't comforting, it was carried by habits. That's real faith and it's not easy. Faith is often quiet, right? It's built through consistency, it shows up in discipline, structure, service.
Starting point is 00:02:16 You don't need perfect belief to live faithfully. You need commitment. Here's a few faith and action anchors for us today. First do one hard thing on purpose, physically or mentally. For me today, that was starting my day with Jiu-Jitsu. It was a very hard class, and it was worth it. Second, check in on someone you respect and really listen. Third, replace one avoidance habit with a constructive one, even if it's just 10 minutes.
Starting point is 00:02:43 Your faith will grow through that movement. Faith doesn't always save us from the hard things. Sometimes it saves us from becoming someone we don't recognize. If you haven't listened to the full conversation with that, I really encourage you to do that. and if this resonated, share it with someone who needs structure more than motivation. Keep the people first. Keep your processes lined and we can make progress together. And for yourself, put in the work to own your mind, move your body, and anchor your spirit.
