It's not the originality of the thought.
It's how you package it or repackage it that I think makes a difference in the world.
What do I mean by this?
Well, what I mean is these days, there's not a ton of original thoughts, maybe outside
of healthcare, technology, and a few other industries I'm not as familiar with.
But when it comes to leading people, pulling teams together, communicating well, the same
tried and true principles apply.
And some of the folks that I admire the most themselves, like Jocko Willink admit,
they got a lot of their stuff from people from a long time ago. People that created leaders intent
that created the idea of the smart objective that figured out, hey, if I make an organization,
and these people specialize in this thing I make an organization and these people
specialize in this thing in this group and these people specialize in this thing in this
other group and we all work together and have these other positions, then we'll have a functional
organizational structure.
And somebody else thought, hmm, we should call these resources that are people and stuff
and we should say, what is the capability of that? And how much do I need?
And what location do I need him at? And at what time? And what type of thing is it?
And then someone said, we should probably talk about this regularly. And so we've had verbal
communication of some sort, whether it was grunts from a long time ago, or hand signals,
or a combination to more developed language like we have today to sometimes seems
like it's undeveloping to the internet where language and communication can be excellent
and can be awful and can be dismissive and can be hurtful. But I think a thought I have today
on this Kev's Talks Friday edition is that you don't have to be original. You don't have to think that you're the only one.
You don't have to think that you're the most special. Use what's out there and repackage it
for the benefit of others. I listened to Joyce Meyer. And as I've mentioned here before,
she's a great speaker, let alone Christian leader. And one thing she talked about is there's a story in the Bible
where it talks about Jesus washes the feet of other people. And right. And if you're a Christian
or you believe he's a prophet, whatever, or you don't believe that at all, the story says that
he washed other people's feet. And right. And this is a guy that is a savior, is revered, and he is
kneeling down and washing other people's feet to be humble, right?
And so what Joyce told me about is how she does that and how maybe literally you could
do it, right?
But which we do with our kids, right?
We wash them up when they're little.
But figuratively, we can wash other people's feet by serving them.
We can serve them by sharing the information we have in our heads,
by sharing the experience we have from our lived lives,
from helping them avoid the mistakes,
but also helping them work through their own problems so we don't give all the answers.
But if we can wash the feet of other people by humbling ourselves with because of whatever title we have
and lifting them up and saying, I will help you. I will let you take the lead on this,
this time, or why don't you lead this meeting? Or, you know, let's, let's talk about the development
of this plan and take their advice. Then it's very, very helpful. And so I hope this episode has been
helpful, pretty short, five minutes or less, a little quick thing. So I hope y'all are having
a great Friday, whether you're out in the field, in a home office like me, in a hospital, on an
airplane, wherever you are. Thank you so much for listening to the KevTalks podcast. I have a little
more passion these days about this because I've spent a lot of time in healthcare and technology and public safety and more recently in the wellness space, right?
I've been physically focused on my wellness with exercise and jiu-jitsu for a while, but my mental health getting out there and assessing kind of where do you want to be in your mind,
with your body, with your spiritual thought,
in some kind of faith in something.
Thank you so much for being here.
Remember to have a plan,
stay informed with facts, not just fear,
and get involved so you can make a difference in the world
and humble yourself to wash others' feet.
Godspeed.
