Hey everybody, welcome to this Foundations Friday 17,
manage the change or the change will manage you.
What does that mean? So project management and change management are linked,
but they're not the same thing. Project management is a primary task of getting
a team together, using those foundational five things. Are we hitting the objectives,
doing our tasks on time? Are we on schedule, within scope, on budget? Is the quality good?
That kind of stuff. Change management, and there's different models. The one I'm familiar
with is an ADCAR model, and I've talked about that on a previous episode. And that's where
you really focus on the awareness of the change,
like why you're doing something, the desire to get people to participate in it. So the knowledge,
do we know how to change? Do we have the knowledge to change? Are we going to give
the knowledge to change? What's our ability? What's the skill set of our people? How are
they doing? Can we build that skill set up and help reinforce that knowledge? And the last one
is reinforcement. So that is, are we going to sustain this? And when you do a
big project and you're changing systems and processes and people's mindsets, you have to
have strong change management proactively, or you're going to be dealing with it reactively.
And so that's where the change can manage you, where you start getting pushback of
trying to, you know, folks want to do things the old way or not, you know, best practice or really,
if you're really moving to, you know, a best practice model or consolidating departments or
changing the tools you use or whatever it is in whatever industry, you've got to get ahead of that
and make sure the message is out there. The message is out there from leadership. We all know
what we're supposed to do.
What's that awareness?
What's the why we're doing this?
And we can all work toward that.
So if we're managing those tasks and staying on time and within budget,
have good quality,
we also have to manage the change that we're going to see in our people,
in our systems, and all the stuff that goes with that.
So as you get through this Friday,
just think about the different changes
in your personal and professional life
that you're managing or are they managing you?
I know it's challenging now, but it's pretty cool.
Starting to kind of come out of our cocoon
as we see kind of mass guidance being lifted,
vaccines everywhere, people's comfort levels
hopefully getting a little better. So let's manage that change as well right
let's let's get our mindsets back to normalcy less fear more facts all that
kind of stuff so thank you all so much for tuning in to this foundations Friday
17 for keeping me active in the show we got some cool interviews coming up we'll
showcase some good works by people we're gonna focus on some Brazilian jiuiu Jitsu and get back into project management here in the very near future.
You all stay safe out there. Wash those hands and Godspeed.
