Welcome to Foundations Friday, episode 53. Maybe it's time to recharter your project.
Charters are something we do really early in the project management biz,
and it's a way to kind of gather what we think the schedule is going to be, the organization,
the scope, all the big stuff that we want to track and monitor and plan for and get resources for.
And sometimes a project can get stretched out, delayed, bumped, put on hold,
stopped, started, and maybe the original charter that we thought was accurate or correct needs to
be updated. And there's nothing wrong with that. Sometimes when we look in the books and the
courses and the certifications, it says, this is it, don't change it. But I think to me, that's a relic of the past of maybe not being as
agile as we could be not necessarily agile methodology, but thinking, you know what,
things change. The reality that existed when we wrote this thing isn't the same as it is now.
And I think that's fine. So if you're a project manager or program manager or product manager,
anyone that makes charters, right? you could be working for the school board.
Who knows?
Maybe it's time to reassess your charter for your project, maybe for yourself.
Are you still holding on to your New Year's resolution or not?
But in particular with project management, things change, right?
Things change over the course.
You know, supplies run out.
People leave.
There's handoff.
Maybe it doesn't make sense. Maybe there's too much change for the course. Supplies run out. People leave. There's handoff. Maybe it doesn't make sense.
Maybe there's too much change for your organization.
But at any rate, maybe take a pause every now and then.
Or if people are confused on the project team or we're not sure what's in scope, what's out of scope, pause, rechartle your project, and then get after it.
Thanks so much for getting after it by listening to the People Process Progress podcast.
